Yeah, Lila has an overinflated ego if she thinks she’s going to be invited to an upper class party because she’s a model. Only those born in prominent families are invited and Mrs Rossi clearly wasn’t. She overestimated herself and got too pushy.

When Kagami told Lila about the diamond dance and the latter expressed surprise at not being invited, Kagami’s answer was blunt.

So the most recent ask unlocked my academic brainrot and I've gotta say Thiollier is SLACKING.

For the record my area of expertise is ancient Mesopotamia, so I probably have more relevant things to say about the Uhl civilization that predated the Nox, but I digress. A temple was, essentially, a house. The priests were house servants to the god. And I mean that very literally- body servants, musicians, cooks, you name it. There would be a very intricate statue that the priests washed and dressed and symbolically fed, and on holidays they'd put that statue in a symbolic boat or whatnot so the god could go on a little jaunt around the town.

So that's the main perspective I'm coming from when I enter the Lands Between. Marika's whole situation as god-queen makes perfect sense to me, no notes.

TRINA, however. Trina baffles me. Most of the information I can find on her involves people searching for her in dreams and indulging in sleep, which gives me a lot to work with on the practices surrounding her cultus and mythology, but gives me VERY little on how she was actually honored.

Based on some information I got about her name being a Japanese pun on the word tree, I'm assuming her sites of worship are sacred trees. Which would make sense. There's a very constant through-line in the history of the Lands Between of tree worship, from the ancient Uhl ruins and the real-world worship in Mesopotamia of gods manifest as cedar trees, to the obvious Shinto influences in the game. Hell, there's an argument to be made for Christianity as a tree religion.

Regardless, in-game, trees are a Big Deal so a tree being a sacred site is par for the course, and there are at least two trees in Elden Ring that 100% belong to Trina in some capacity. The one in the Albinauric Village, and the one in the Apostate Derelict.

What confuses me about that though is I've been to the Albinauric tree. It's dead, drowning in poisoned water and surrounded by crabs. It is, admittedly, kind of in the center of the Albinauric village- the ravine under the rope bridge- but. Considering the fact that the albinaurics 100% shoot St. Trina's Arrows, and thus know and respect her, it seems weird that there's just nothing around the tree to indicate any kind of worship or even basic maintenance. Just the circle of flowers. And poisoned water.

I'm currently fighting my way towards the Apostate Derelict, so I'll investigate that tree when I get there, but like. There's not a single church or chapel in St. Trina's name. She has no house. She's the saint of sleep, why haven't I found any lilies next to a bed or something? Where's the hospitality??? Where's her HOUSE.

So the fact that Thiollier literally has his living goddess Right There and she looks like she needs five kinds of medical attention (or maybe botanist's attention) just seems Bizarre to me. Where is your devotion, my guy. The hospitality, the chivalry, the acts of service. Water her or something, I don't know. Make her some kind of memorial? Make her cozy. Get her a pillow, come on, this is a travesty.

So I saw a video on the YouTube about a theory that Messmer is the son of the gloam eyed queen and Marika stole him and I, a Godwyn-Messmer twin truther, went "no, no way. Messmer and Godwyn are twins, one of them can't be the GEQ's son.... Unless...."

And then I thought. What if it's not Messmer that is GEQ's stolen son, but Godwyn.

I have three pieces of.... Not exactly evidence because these are all speculative and circumstantial, but I am having fun with it.

1) Godwyn's name. Every other Marika child has the initials of their parents in their name. Mohg and Morgott of Marika and Godfrey; Radahn, Rhykard, and Ranni of Radagan and Rennala; Messmer, Miquella, Malenia, and Melina of Marika and Radaghan (this is a translation thing; Japanese kana use the same symbols for both L and R, so in the original Japanese, the names of Marika and Radagan's children did have both Ms and R's). But. Godwyn. He only has Godfrey's G, no Marika M. Out of her 10 children, only her specialist, most important first born prince son ISNT named after her? Suspicious.

1A: Yes, I realize he does still have Godfrey's namesake. But if Marika stole a son, whos to say she didn't steal a husband as well. After all, the DLC claims that she "seduced" the previous god before her with her "wanton strumpet" ways. Maybe the GEQ had her eyes (eye?) on Godfrey.

1B: Why on Earth would Marika steal the son of an enemy Empyrean and make him her most specialist prince? Well, Godwyn went hard for the golden order. What better way to rub it in an old enemy's face than by stealing her son and making him the literal poster boy of your Golden Order.

2) Godwyn's body got all fucked up when he died. Yes, that was explained by his soul dying while his body lived on, but like. Those Who Live In Death don't have the same transformation, after all. They have something similar, but they can still ambulate. Also, they can be killed for real--Godwyn can't. And sure, maybe it's because he's a demigod.... Buuut if he was the son of the GEQ, the creator of the Rune of Death, perhaps that explains why he became so powerful within death. Before, he was a standard golden boy--he did great things for the golden order, of course, but he didn't seem to have any specific connection to a certain type of magic or outer god like any of the other demigods. But then he died and became the Prince of Death. Not the King of Death, but a Prince. An offspring of a Queen. Maybe Marika.... Or maybe the Queen who made the Rune of Death.

Or it's all baloney and whatever. I still like the idea of twin Messmer and Godwyn more, but it's fun to theory craft. Though, hey, Marika had kids with Rennala, after all. Who's to say she didn't have a kid with the Gloam Eyed Queen too? We stan a bisexual queen.

@whyyouacknsocraycray made a post once, talking about a possibility of Godwyn being Godfrey's son with someone else — which would explain the G and potentially the GEQ — and it rented a house inside my thoughts, because it's really good just to see this perfect, golden son, being disowned of his reality.

It could work wonders that sort of scenario, perhaps even more than Messmer being the stolen kid. Because we all know about the "seduction and betrayal".

Let's consider two fun scenarios: Marika sends Godfrey to seduce GEQ and, once she births a perfect son, he is stolen — I can even go far weirder here and say she wanted this perfect son to be made so she could use him as the blessing for Messmer's maledictions. Marika once made a blessing for Messmer, but never again.

Or Godfrey was already promised to the GEQ expecting his child and Marika took it all from her — with the help of Godfrey himself, seeing more potential in Marika.

Now: I know shit about the GEQ, I must admit. Never dug into that part of lore. So I have no idea if these scenarios could actually fit in the current timeline lol but, just like you said, it's fun to think of different stuff from usual.

And, it's where the fun begins. I think every scenario that disrupts the "perfect" order is hella interesting. So if we have this golden prince, who grew believing to be the heir (even though he ain't empyrean), the champion of this empire, his mother's most beloved and perfect son... taking it all from him is just tasty.

To see his struggle with reality, considering himself a bastard, suddenly feeling an outsider. I can even see him disappointed with Messmer, accusing him of knowing the truth and hiding it from him. Just delicious angst.

And yes, I agree with you. Even when I don't agree with some theories, I think it's quite cool to invest in different scenarios just to explore all the possibilities — even when they are insane. That's the fun bit. I think these sort of things are more fun when you are invested in making them interesting rather than just right or true.

Chapter 26: Meeting Lost Relatives

Chika PoV

Reyna and I are holding hands and moving uphill. Past the black gates with the name on top that says, Spiti. Isabelle and Hyun were waiting for us in top hill next to a woman who looks like to be in her thirties. She was wearing a long skirt around her ankle and had a cute shirt that has a lion in a carton print. As I was walking towards them, I noticed the lady has similar black hair as my mother but also bright green eyes.

“So, you must be Chika Hanabusa, it is the pleasure to meet my granddaughter. It is rare that I can see my children’s demigods.” The lady says and suddenly she hold Isabelle and I up in the air, and held us close hold to her chest like we’re babies.

“What do you mean granddaughter, wait are you Demeter’s mother?” The lady did a small smile and start kissing both Isabelle and I on the cheeks and hug us harder. I do kind of feel suffocated.

“Yes, I am Demeter’s mother. My name is Rhea, Queen of the Titans and Titaness of motherhood.” That is so cool, I never thought that I could meet her, I thought you must be a child of the big three to get special privileges like that.

“So are the other titans here, Queen Rhea?” Isabelle asked and the lady let us go from her embrace. She rubbed Isabelle head and kiss her forehead, and Isabelle face becomes red and shyly tucked her long hair behind her ear.

“Yeah, they are here, they will be back around in two days.” Rhea answered and she just pinched Isabelle and my cheeks.

“You girls are so cute; I would love to get to know you two betters.” Rhea squeal, while Reyna looks shocked that the mother of the gods is acting like a stereotypical grandmother. Reyna was just staring at her and deciding whether to bow or not. Suddenly a Japanese boy with messy black hair and ocean blue eyes appeared and his wear swim shorts and basketball jersey. Wait is that Kaito? The last time I saw him was at my 16th birthday party. I didn’t think and I just tackled him to the ground while Kaito was wearing a smirk.

“Miss me little cousin?” Kaito lifts me up and strokes my hair.

“Shut up, you are only older than me by 5 months.” I say snarky while Kaito just laughs.

“Anyway, what’s going on with you Chika, did you finally get a girlfriend?” Kaito smile that insufferable cocky smile, I still don’t understand how other girls can have crushes on that. He’s literally the player stereotype. He’s holding me close to his chest while stroking my hair.

“I finally did!!!!” I say excited while Kaito looks a bit shocked.

“Is it that white girl Isabelle?” he asked teasingly and his eyes sparkled mischief. Ok he smells horrible, I quickly got off him.

“No, it’s not Isabelle. Please take a shower, you smell like garbage” I covered my noise and Kaito just laughed loudly.

“I don’t want to take a shower” Kaito whined like a child, he’s still so immature. Man, it will be a miracle if he finds himself a girlfriend.

“Anyway, this is my girlfriend Reyna” I lead him to Reyna, Rhea, Isabelle, and Hyun are at. It seems they were in the middle of a conversation. Kaito looks at Reyna and offers her his hand. Reyna just stares at Kaito like he’s an intruder.

“Reyna, this is my cousin Kaito” I say as Reyna take Kaito hand and Kaito whispers in my ear, “She’s way out of your league.”

“Hey Rhea, is my mom will be back from helping out in the Antarctica?” Kaito asked impatiently.

“You ask me this so many times little one, your mother is very busy woman. She will be back, and she will spend a lot of time with you.” Rhea says in a tired tone like she hears that question a million times.

“Ok” Kaito says childishly. Isabelle, Reyna, and Hyun were staring at Kaito, and I like we’re test subjects.

“How the hell are you Chika’s cousin?” Isabelle says loudly and Kaito just shrugs.

“Beats me, I’m way to good looking compared to this one over there.” Kaito says jokingly as he points to me.

“I give you a 6 on a good day” Isabelle says sarcastically and did a small smirk.

“Ahhh Chika, please control that bitch over there” Kaito says in mock hurt, but Isabelle just flips him off.

“Did you just call my girlfriend ugly Kaito” Reyna glaring fire at him and took a step forward towards him, I pulled Reyna back from attacking him.

“I’m joking Reyna, I don’t find Chika ugly at all. I was just busting your chops.” Kaito says while sweat coming down his forehead.

“Chika, your girlfriend is scary.” Kai says in a horrified tone while I cast a proud smirk.

“Chika, there is something I need to share with you privately, do you want to walk with me” Kaito held my hand and I look to Rhea in approval and she just nods. Kaito and I went to the log that we sit and it’s not far from the settlement.

“Hey Chika, I just want to let you know that I have a secret and only the people of this settlement know about it. You’re the only family I can talk to about this is because both you and I are related to Greek deities.” Kaito says in a gentle manner. He hugs me and I kiss him on the cheek.

“You can tell me anything Kaito.” I reassured him and I used my powers to give him a apple and Kaito bite into it quickly. Kaito eats very fast if he’s super nervous, so it’s no surprise that he finished the apple up in like 2 minutes.

“This may be shocking, But I’m sharing a body with a god. The god in question is more powerful than both Poseidon and Oceanus combined.” He says nervously and rubbing the back of his head. If he’s mentioning sea deities than the god in question could be something related to the marine.

“Kaito, I have a same problem as well, I’m also sharing a body with a god as well. I give you a hint, she’s the titans mother.” Kaito has eyes and mouth wide open in shock.

“Not you to, she must be a nightmare.” Kaito looks on in sympathy.

“Enough about me, who is the god that you are sharing your body with?” I asked while Kaito looks on the ground.

“His name is Pontus and he’s the sea itself like how Gaia is the earth. He’s not a bad guy by any means, he just wants to explore the world or even guide people about how to maintain the sea. The thing is that Poseidon could be paranoid and might try to kill us all because he could find me a threat to his kingdom, but that’s assuming if he is like Zeus. I think the only issue with Pontus is that the guy could be a bit moody. He’s not evil or anything, but he does need a bit more self-awareness with how he can unintentional could drown us all.” Kaito says in a quiet tone that is a bit close to whispering.

“Yeah, these gods are super moody, but I don’t mind helping them out. At first, Gaia did process me and tried to hurt Hyun and other deities during the quest. After the situation, she and I work things out and all Gaia cares about is that the earth is unharmed. I promised to help her out and all she told me is to seek the satyr named Grover” Kaito stares at me and did a small smile.

“I guess it is up to us to help these old farts out.” Kaito chuckled and I laughed with him.

“It really is, I guess we are the cursed Hanabusa” I joked and Kaito laughs like crazy.

“We are more cursed than our father generation. At least they just screwed goddesses.” We both continued laughing about our fates. The important thing is that we have each other. We both walked towards Rhea, Hyun, Reyna, and Isabelle. It looks like Rhea is giving a tour towards Isabelle and Reyna while Hyun is just do lifting things up in the air though magic for funsies. As I walked towards them, I heard a voice in my head.

“Chika, I want to communicate with my daughter, I promise that no one will be harm.” Gaia telepathically says in my head.

“Ok I don’t mind if you just want to talk to rhea.” I say to Gaia telepathically, this will take time to get used to.

I felt my eyes becoming green and I felt my consciousness back at the flower field that I talk to Gaia.

Gaia PoV

I’m glad that mortal didn’t put much of a fight this time, I just want to speak to Rhea. She’s surrounded by demigods, and I approached her. Rhea looked alert at my presence, and she pulled the demigods behind her.

“Mother is that you and why you are possessing this poor girl?” Rhea asked as one demigod girl, Reyna pulled the sword next to Rhea while the daughter the Hecate pulled green fireballs. The one that looked like Hera pulled out the battle ax. Like these could hurt me, I will have to be civil with demigods.

“It’s been a while Rhea, tell the demigods that they could put their weapons away. I only wish to speak to you.” Rhea gestured to the girls to put away the weapon, but they still looked guarded. The boy Kaito looks shocked at my appearance, so he’s Pontus vessel. I will have to be careful about the boy since the last time that I saw Pontus, he urged me to not start the war. Pontus was right all along, I’m worried if he doesn’t want to be my friend anymore. I will have to fix my friendship with Pontus sometime, but Rhea takes priority.

“Daughter, are you safe and happy?” I asked in a soft voice, I don’t want to scare my kids. They are safe with me, and I will kill those who dared to make them cry.

“Yes, Mother I’m doing well. I just don’t approve of you trying to hurt my kids. I understand that you gave my kids this realm and you helped them defeat their father, and they haven’t fulfilled their promise to you. They are still my kids, and I will protect them, even from you.” Rhea says assertively, that’s my baby. She has grown to be such a strong goddess; she hasn’t become harden and cruel like I was. I’m so proud of her and I understand she wants to protect those blasted Olympians.

“You are their mother and I expect nothing less. If you feel like fighting me, I’m not going to stop you. Go ahead.” I sat in front of the girls, and I waited for Rhea to strike me down. 

“I don’t want to fight you and I know that you never wanted to hurt us. All I can do is begged for you to forgive my kids.” Rhea sits across from me, and I looked at her tears-filled eyes. I’ve made my daughter cry and I try to wipe the tears from her eyes.

“I wanted to give your children another chance but all they care about is their stupid FUCKING CHAIRS. They are power hungry shitheads who abandon their kids to a fucking centaur. I hated the demigod for putting your brothers in the pits, but I realize they are only following orders from their cruel parents. Fine, I will not harm your kids, but I will still replace them with kinder beings. Maybe it’s time that demigods will continue the tradition.” I point towards the girls and Rhea look horrified.

“You want demigods to overthrow the Olympians? The same way that Zeus overthrowing Cronus and Cronus Overthrowing Ouranos.” Rhea asked horrified.

“The Giants and Typhon weren’t meant to overthrow the Gods. They take too much after me so to speak. I was defeated by the demigods, and I was impressed by their bravery and cooperation. I’m willing to get to know the demigods and understand them. The one I shared my body with, Chika Hanabusa, she has been endlessly patient with me, and she has offered her ear towards me. She just wants to save the earth. Though the girl should take a break about thinking about her lover.” I point toward the blown-skinned girl and Reyna looks shocked that Chika has been thinking about her.

“I’m not sure about what to think about your plans Mother, but I do agree that demigods have potential to make your realm better. I just don’t want another war.” Rhea responds.

“You don’t need to do anything at all. Look after your sisters and your mortal son.” I answered in a soft manner, and I kiss Rhea on the cheek.

“So, you know about Ryan?” Rhea asked and she did a proud smile.

“And I also know that your sisters, brothers, and their kids decide to mate with humans. I’m curious, how many demititans they are?” I asked and rhea looks around and did a small smirk.

“Well, there are a lot fewer compared to demigods. There is my son Ryan, the boy next to you is Tethys’s son, we have Lelantos’s daughter Camira, Phobe has a daughter who is named Evangline. Hyperion, Krios, and Koios somehow have a child before the second Titanomachy, Themis has a child as well and she’s becoming a lawyer. Theia has a son who runs a Jewelry store. Mnemosyne has a son who’s writing a successful book series, but they are graphic novels. We also recently discovered that my nephews and nieces Eos, Pallas, Perses also have children, and my son is recruiting them as we speak. So all in all about 14 demi titan in general.” Rhea says proudly. It seems Rhea never liked the luxury of being a queen. She seems like she’s ok with being a mentor to the demi titan like Cronus’s son Chiron is with the demigods.

“I swear that I will never harm those kids and to leave in peace daughter. I want to see your sisters again. So please keep me posted on them. Look I not going to scatter your kids if that’s what you worry about, but I am going to, what is the mortal term, oh yeas I will fire them from their jobs”. I let Chika have her body again and Chika grasps for air.

Chika PoV

“I’m back now, I hope Gaia didn’t try to kill you guys?” I asked and Reyna held my hand up and took me off the ground.

“She wasn’t young on. She and I just talked about her plans. My mother, Gaia, doesn’t believe in my children and I just can’t help but agree with her. She believes in demigods, so she will not your kind again.” Rhea informing me about the event.

Throughout the whole day I’ve met Camira, and she was very good with bow, I’ve meet Itri who is from Nigeria, and she could manipulate stars and moon beams, the last girl I’ve met was Evangeline. She is Kaito’s girlfriend and she’s super sweet, she has got me books about Greek mythology, and I can tell that she has Kaito wrapped around her finger.

“So is it true that you are a lesbian. Kaito has told me about you being Demeter’s child and now apparently you are dating the Praetor of New Rome.” Evangeline shyly asked.

“I just asked her out today. Reyna and I are working to make things work. You are way out of Kaito’s league, he’s lucky to have a sweet girl like you to put up with his obnoxious attitude.” I say in a teasing  and Evangeline blushed madly about him. I hope Kaito treats her well, or else I will probably hunt him down. Hyun and Isabelle decide to steal me from Evangeline, but Evangeline just read her book that she has been carrying.

“Hey Chika, I wanted to say sorry about the whole fighting you in the quest?” Hyun apologetically says and I just hugged her.

“There is nothing to forgive, I’m glad that you saved Ben and that found Rhea. I bet Rhea is better to work for than her ex-husband.” I say softly while Hyun shred tears of relief.

“I promise you Chika that we will be proper friends this time.” Hyun says while Isabelle looks at Hyun and I hug. Hyun decides to join up with Evangeline and I guess they are talking about the book. Isabelle did a warm smile and she put her hand on my shoulder.

“I’m willing to accept that Reyna won your heart. I just wanted to let you know that I did have feelings for you and I’m glad that we can still be friends. Chika, you will never lose me in your life. Reyna better makes you happy or else I will drive my axe though her throat.” Isabelle says in a aggressive tone.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t return your feelings Isabelle; you will find someone someday.” Isabelle closes her eyes for a second and takes calming breaths.

“I know, but I’m not going to rush into a relationship. For now, I just want to fit in with the demititans. So far, they are so welcoming. Grandmother is a nice lady, and I would love to spend time with her.” Isabelle says in a hopeful manner. This is the first time I have seen Isabelle being optimistic and smiling a lot. Honestly, anyone will be lucky to marry her.

“Yeah, Rhea seems very trustworthy, you will safe here Isabelle. Isabelle, please take care of yourself.’’ I say in a concerned manner, I just hope she doesn’t isolate herself anymore.

“I will. Now Chika, you should go to Reyna. She’s waiting on you.” Isabelle gently takes my hand and leads me to where Reyna is waiting on me. She was waiting on the same log that Kaito and I were talking at. Both Isabelle and Reyna did a handshake, and it seems that both girls are getting along. I sat next to Reyna on the tree, enjoying the private time with each other. What a peaceful day and nobody got hurt.

Let's call this an introduction post but like...for the characters and plot.

SUMMARY: The city of Theona is welcoming a new ruler! Queen Tyra, next in line to the Sable empire, has taken the throne! She is widely loved and adored by the people, so what happens when an insider of the palace reveals a dark secret?

GENRE: It's a fantasy adventure. We got a healthy dose of found family and mythical creatures too.

CHARACTERS:

The main character is named Merissa Shermann. She's 22, has red curly hair (kinda like Merida lol), hazel eyes, and she's 5'6". Her stake in the story is that her dad's life was ruined by the queen... before she was queen. She's incredibly caring, but acts like she's not. She also tends to worry. She is strong, but only because she does a lot of household chores because her dad is old and can't really do much.

The childhood best friend is named Zell Odison. He's 21. He's also albino, mostly because I noticed that there is like no representation for albino people? Like yes it's rare, but stillllll. He's 5'11". He's very dramatic and goofy, but will also do anything to take care of his family (including doing jobs for a well-feared crime boss). He and Merissa have been friends since they were little, and he's also very protective of her. His stake in the story is that his family has a hidden secret and he needs answers.

The blacksmith is named Raymond Clyde. He's a small man, being only 5'2" at the age of 53. He's a brunette, but it doesn't really show because his hair is graying. It's pretty ratted, but he normally keeps it under goggles and a bandana anyway. He's a grumpy old man with wet cat energy but we love him. His wife died fifteen years ago, and his daughter never visits him, so he mostly stays at home, working. His stake in this story is that his wife's death isn't what it seems.

The blacksmith's daughter is named Aeriel Clyde. She's 30 and 5'8". Blonde, blue eyes, but the kind that stare into your soul. She's obsessed with killing the giant who took her mother's life, and that's how she finds out that her mother's death is not what it seems. She's arrogant, and negative, but as the story progresses, grows as a person. She tries to rebuild her relationship with her father. Her stake in the story is that she has a vendetta to fulfill.

The faery is named Tamiko Sable. She's only 10 and stands at 4'8". She has Japanese facial features, and straight black hair. She can always be seen with her cat, Cinder, that her birth mother gave to her. She's very bubbly and excited, and doesn't let anyone put out her spark, no matter how hard they try. She was born to a maid in one of the rich plantations, coincidentally owned by Tyra's sister. After being adopted by the late queen Tyra when her mother died, however, she starts to discover that all is not as it seems. Her stake in the story is that her adoptive mother is not who she says she is.

The alchemist's apprentice is named Hugo Holloway. He's a broody little teenager, at 13. He's only about 4'11". Him and his mother are usually the ones at home, with his father being a palace guard. Since his father is gone all the time, he decided he needed a way to protect his mother, so he became the apprentice of an alchemist. He's very determined, straightforward, and doesn't do well with 'feelings'. His black hair can never seem to lay straight, and his skin can't decide whether it wants to be brown or white, even his eyes can't decide what color they want to be, with one being blue and one being green. His stake in the story is that his father is in serious danger.

The artist is named Sasha Holloway. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, that is until she is married to a palace guard named Noro. She soon realizes that being married to a palace guard means a lot of cold beds, and solo parenting. However, once her son became older, and more independent, she got back into her art. Dancing, knitting, and painting became constants in her life, once more. She does wear a hijab, but I refer to it as a headscarf in the story because it isn't really for any religious reason, moreso because she feels more comfortable in it. She's 5'3", and 37, and you better not touch her son. Her stake in the story is that people that she cares about are being threatened, and she can not let that happen.

And finally, the wanderer is named Estelle Foxglove. She has been a loner her whole life, always doing what it took to survive, but...what she did didn't always resonate well with her soft soul, so she retired, at the ripe age of 19. The Vajrayana is very much based on mind, and therefore feelings and inclinations are important. If you have an uncontrollable urge to follow someone, it may be a continuation of a certain guru-student relationship you had in your past lives. In the case of following your intuition, conventional ways of assessing the guru are not necessary.

When Milarepa first laid eyes on Marpa, Marpa was plowing a muddy field of barley in a cold wind. It was all rocks and slush - nothing remotely resembling the brocade, incense, and parasols we so often associate with gurus these days. But upon encountering this man, Milarepa was so moved that he felt a bodily sensation. It's believed that Marpa stopped working, surveyed Milarepa from head to toe, and then asked him to finish plowing the rest of the field. He also offered him a little wine.

And there began the great Kagyu lineage, which went into the ears and minds of some of the greatest kings, queens, and emperors this world has ever hosted, including those of the Qing dynasty.

This relationship could not have arisen merely because of Milarepa's mundane aspiration for a dharmic connection.

There must have been a residue of a long-existing karmic link between those two.

Even some of my own students, who I sometimes refer to as my "victims," have approached me without much sober assessment.

Within my own circle of groupies, there are a few old fogies whose first encounter of me was when I was hanging around in the cheap pubs of London, wearing jeans and a T-shirt — hardly looking like a Tibetan lama. Somehow they became Vajrayana students. Today when I see them, it's encouraging because it confirms the Buddhist concept of karmic debt. Their approach to me as a Vajrayana teacher did not begin with all the usual props and sound effects.

So it's absolutely understandable when people are taken when they meet someone like Surya Das, who looks 110 percent Jewish, with his overgrown beard and oversize belly. His presence and his speech, and his very pushy being, inspires them. Not only inspires but unravels their cocoons and prevents them from going astray.

Our normal, rational assessment does not always need to take precedent. This person who can wake you up becomes what we call

"guru with the three unsurpassable kindnesses." Even if the guru doesn't teach with moving lips, he can be your master. It's very individual. In this way, you can even get the nature of the mind transmission from someone like David Noodle.

Question this is going back to the whole Giselle debate on bleach.

But how do you think how Kubo handles his lgbtq and trans coded character? Are they good or they could be be improved. I have been seeing mix reactions saying Kubo is anti lgbtq and transphobic because his characters. But to me I think he handle them pretty well. I can see how people can say why since how he handle Giselle and Charlotte but then you have characters like Soi fon, Chizuru, and Yumichika yes they don't get much spotlight authentic rest of the cast but in some ways they all have good personality

Personally, I feel like it usually depends on a person's experience. I also like to add the disclaimer that I'm not trans or Japanese, so take my stance with a grain of salt. I also want to make it clear that I'm not making excuses for him.

TLDR: He wants to clearly add more queer characters to his work but he doesn't seem to know anything about queer culture even in Japan which is where you would assume he gets most of his inspiration but he seems to take his knowledge from a very pop-culture view of queer people.

I don't think it's out of malice but he can definitely improve by putting in the research work especially if there's going to be another Bleach arc and especially for any added arcs of Burn The Witch and he wants to add more queer characters.

But in general, I feel Kubo has the same approach to writing queer characters in the way that early Togashi (HxH, Yu Yu Hakusho) did. In that way where he's trying but it's....just not good. It just reads that way to me.

And it very much paints the picture that Kubo wants to add queer characters to his stories because they tend to fit the themes of his works but he is not around a lot of queer folks and doesn't know much about the culture and what he does know is formed from a sort of pop-culture understanding of Japanese LGBT+ culture and when mixed with Japan's own queerphobia, it just doesn't mix well.

And its funny to bring up Soi Fon and Chizuru because I think they're a clear example of this as both fall into the "predatory lesbian" trope. Chizuru with Orihime and Soi Fon with Yoruichi. When Kubo writes well, he writes WELL but when he flops, HE FLOPS and he tends to drop the ball with a lot of characters. The only thing we know about Chizuru is that inappropriately touches Orihime a lot and the only thing we know about Soi Fon is that she's hardheaded and has been obsessed with Yoruichi since she was a child. And I can.....sort of give it a pass cause it was the early 2000s and...dear god those years were the worst.

In the cases of Yumichika and Charlotte, it feels like they can be read as deep but the whether it's intentional or not is up for debate just because of Kubo's track record. Like Yumichika and Charlotte are the best queer characters he's written because of how they both can be read. And again, there's no telling if that's intentional or not and that's what holds him back.

I already touched on Yumichika as a closeted gay man who lashes out on other queer people and I think the biggest issue is that there isn't a much clearer emphasis on Yumichika being the one in the wrong because Kubo has no issue with named characters getting told off for being wrong, especially when they're being backwards and narrow-minded. IMO, I think a small clapback of Giselle saying "you smell semen often" would've been way more relatable in terms of queer insulting and I feel like it would've put them on even ground somewhat but again, Kubo wouldn't know that because he doesn't know much about the cultures of queer people.

Charlotte gives strong drag queen vibes for me. Like compared to the drag queens I watch, Charlotte feels very much like them and everything about her personality is a campy bit right down to her super long attack names.

I also see some folks not want to claim Giselle which is their prerogative but it sets the precedent that queer people have to fit a certain mold in order to be queer and I feel like it's unfair to Giselle as a character because she's the not the only character that is morally bad. Mayuri exists and he shows no remorse for constantly abusing Nemu and takes pride in his experiments on other species like Uryu's grandfather and the Arrancar, Szayelaporro exists and he was so bad he went to Hell, there's also Nnoitora who actively attacks Nel because she was a woman ranked higher than him. Even among the Quincies, there's Quilge Opie who takes pleasure in ruthlessly murdering Arrancar prisoners and PePe who's power is to literally force people to "love" him, even using it on other Quincies.

I would understand if Giselle was isolated in that type of personality but the reason people "aren't talking about it" is because it comes with the food at this point. The Sternritters are literally modeled after Nazis (the guy that leads them literally built his power by killing the "mixed blooded Quincy), most of them are gonna have personalities that people may find deplorable.

In general, if Kubo wants to commit to it, he should put in the work and learn more about Queer culture because there are different implications when you write queer characters a certain way. Because I feel like with his style of writing, he can make it work.

Lol it's simply something I've observed over the years. There are examples I can name off the top of my head, such as him excusing Freddie being outright rude to fans with "oh but he had to rest his throat, you see <3 that's why he told them to fuck off <3 Freddie threw away a whole box of gifts from Japanese fans because he doesn't like clutter in his life <3" (side note: compare that action to the current drama lmao). Honestly, that is so, so simpy, it's hilarious. I don't have the links to the interviews where he's said this handy (I'm pretty sure he's talked about it more than once), but let's be real: Freddie was rude a lot! But Brian swoops in like "b-b-but he was actually focused on recording!!!"

I can't find it right now, but there was a time back in Brian's twitter days when he publicly snapped at someone for insulting Anita's singing, and then apologized (I think he initially called the person a "bitchy little worm" lol). Anita was on this competition show in 2011, Strictly Come Dancing, and she was actually worried that Brian would get big mad and intervene if the judges got too harsh on her:

Now, vehemently defending his wife and Freddie are to be expected, and unsurprisingly, this extends to Queen. Brian is very defensive of the band and their work, and anything closely associated with it; that's why I think he's defended the film so much, because the project meant a lot to him and he thought it was a net good for Queen and Freddie, so he wasn't interested in accepting much criticism of the film and defended it publicly on more than one occasion.

He's shown this behavior towards other people he likes yet doesn't know as well, especially colleagues in the industry or, more recently, scientific colleagues like Walt Cunningham, who just died and got a nice little tribute post by Brian despite being a jackass climate change denier (and Brian very obviously feels strongly about climate change, so for him to like the man despite his flat-out wrong view on something Brian cares about a lot says something). Back in the movie days, Brian even got into hot water by still following Bryan Singer on instagram and snapping at someone who commented on his profile and told him to unfollow--again, I think this is because Singer was associated with a project that meant a lot to Brian, but to his credit, he actually issued a lengthy public apology that seemed genuine to me, who at the time, was not a fan of Brian lol. This goes to show how this trait is a double-edged sword, because it's sweet when he defends Freddie and Anita, but it's bad when he defends people who shouldn't be defended (although, I do believe him when he says he didn't realize following Singer on social media would be seen as supporting him. People do need to remember we're talking about a senior citizen here).

And so, I think Brian's defensive nature leads him to assume the best of people because he really doesn't want to think people he likes have done wrong or are bad. It's also a mindset he seems to have about people in general; after the 2020 US election, he made a video talking about how shocked he was that so many people still voted for Trump. Brian more or less came to the conclusion that Trump voters must be seeing something different, their news sources must be wrong and leading them astray, and we should create some kind of independent truth council. I could not believe how naïve he was with this post. Like...obviously, even if you could create a totally unbiased source of truth, morons and political conspiracy theorists just wouldn't believe it! Lol. And in general, I think Brian has a difficult time believing that there could really be a large amount of bad people in the world (I think this influenced his political campaign to appeal to people's supposed "common decency" too), but it's like...as someone who has lived in America her whole life and is extremely political invested, I can confidently say that no, Trump voters really are just awful fucking people. They're not led astray, they willingly walk off the cliff because the GOP tells them what they want to hear about women and minorities. I swear, I'm not going on a tangent lol. The point is, Brian wouldn't accept my conclusion here. I think it's genuinely hard for him to accept that there are a lot of people who are simply bad actors in this world, and that's about people in general--apply that to people he actually likes? Yeah. No. You'd have to tell Brian someone committed murder and show him the body before he'd accept that they're bad.

This is also why I think it's incredibly telling that Brian has held ill feelings towards Paul and Barbara for the rest of his life, because he's not a spiteful, angry person who writes people off easily, he actually defends people too much a lot of times, but that's getting off topic lol.

I also love the spoken word at the beginning, and the references to pageants. What a banger.
