One last read for June! The Language of Thorns survived a tie on my first tbr poll on the fact that I love fairy tales and wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I got rid of my copy without reading it. Very glad I did, but I’m not any less conflicted about whether or not I should keep it 🙃

[ID: A lineless drawing of a gold-yellow baby SandWing-NightWing hybrid and a large tan SandWing. It is Sunny and her mother Thorn from Wings of Fire. Thorn has her head very close to her small daughter, mouth open in a tiny smile and eyes glimmering with love. Sunny has both front paws on her mother's snout. She is licking her mother's nose horn. The background is a dull purple with small pink dots. /End]
Favorite AU has gotta be the one's where Sunny grows up as Beetle with Thorn in the Scorpion Den. I don't think it would change her too much, but she'd definitely be tougher up front and would not take shit from anyone. Although, she's still the same kind dragon we know from the books. Bonus points if the AU is an AU where all the DoD grow up separate and still find each other and end the war together. Those are always super sweet!
Anyway, have a tender moment between mother and daughter shortly after hatching. Also, this was the first real lineless thing I've tried. It was so hard, it took forever. I need more practice for sure.

Do you have a headcanon for your pets? Dogs, cats, birds, etc. Feel free to share or maybe even just their name! After all, Eris has 12 dogs to name + Cassian is most definitely starting his own menagerie!

Valzhang Cinder au solely for an elevator scene where Prince Frank asks Leo to be his guest at the ball and Leo goes, ‘nah, I’ll be running away that night- I mean, I’m not going sad face, gotta go’ to do shady stuff with the resident kooky doctor and Frank, in front of a corridor of officials and palace staff and doctors announces, “Come to the ball with me.”
And Leo shoves him back into the elevator so no one can see them talk and Frank’s all smug about it. He’s a flirty bitch! He would!
Also their first meeting where Frank’s like ‘I’m looking for the capital city’s most renown mechanic to fix my robot, it’s a matter of national importance’ and Leo, said renown mechanic, is like -bang bang- whacking the thing against the table.

As someone who goes by a chosen name, it bugs the shit out of me when I see fanart and posts about The Last Hours that refer to Ari as Ariadne. I know that’s what she was called for most of the trilogy, but it is like a whole thing where she decides to go by Ari instead. Ari is her new name and there’s a lot of meaning behind it. It has to do with reclaiming her heritage and her own identity as an interracial adoptee and a queer person. That’s a big deal. I feel like a lot of people missed the point of her doing that because they still call her Ariadne.

Lady of Autumn Concept (Elucien)
A little scenario for your Sunday afternoon:
The Lady of Autumn is free, healing, and learning to live again. She and Lucien are finally truly reunited: he slowly starts to see the sparkle return to her eyes during his visits or hers, and the gradual return of smiles that cross her lips. Those smiles start meeting her eyes, and she starts to venture out of Autumn more and explore the world more.
The first time he hears her laugh in ages, though, is when it all really sinks in: that she's becoming whole again, and that her healing is finally taking root. She's in the gardens when he hears it, walking arm-in-arm with Elain as his mate seems to tell her a story animatedly that has his mother's eyes twinkling.
He doesn't need to know which story Elain has told. He doesn't need to ask. He clings to the sound of that laughter again and the sight of the two women he loves most talking, laughing, and happy at last. He watches as they sit down at Elain's small garden table together, his mother seeming thoroughly enchanted by her and invested in her story.
She looks younger than she has in ages: color staining her cheeks and russet eyes bright.
And Elain...he already knows he'll never find a more beautiful female in this world or the next. He knows her kindness and her warmth and her quieter sort of strength, but his appreciation for her surges once again in that moment.
He doesn't know the gratitude the Lady feels too in that moment: not just for the second chance at life that's brought her to her son again, and not just for the way he and his mate have opened their home to her. It's a gratitude towards the Mother, the universe, or whatever manner of forces cause such things to fall into place.
She loves Elain. Sees Elain. Sees the bond between her and her son and the warmth, trust, and comfort they share in each other. The work they've put into building their foundations and their love.
And just as much as she's grateful for her own life, she's grateful that Lucien and Elain have been blessed with each other as a mate and for the life they're building together.
A life she finally gets to see.
