(this has been sitting in my head for a good while now but i finally had time to sit down and do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it being this extremely indulgent silly little character inspiration chart lmao

if you recognize any of these characters off the bat, congrats!! you automatically understand a crucial aspect of what makes a tonitoni tick (also if you recognize all three you win my immense respect and favor and empathetic pity for being so deep in the world of niche subgenre gaming to know who all three of these are)

but for those who Don't know any of these guys, below is my very fun thonky explanation on who they are and for how each of them contribute to the extremely messed up hotpot that is a tonitoni ww)

From left to right, the characters are:

Ange Ushiromiya (from Umineko)

Ange is one of the sole survivors of her rich family's massacre by sheer chance, having been too sick to attend her family's annual reunion at the time.

She considers this a great misfortune however, due to a mixture of survivor's guilt and the resulting depression, as well as the fact that her life afterwards took a turn for the worse: extreme bullying in school, being the target for assassinations, constant gossip and malicious rumors from society and the media over the massacre—and by extension her family's unsavoury affairs—and a strained if not cold relationship with her sole guardian and family member.

This has resulted in an extremely closed-off personality, cold and stoic with a tendency for dry but sharp and bitter, pessimistic thinking. After everything that's happened to her, she could care less for anything - including her own life - save for the truth of the massacre that stole away her beloved parents and brother.

Because her real wish, to simply have her family back, will never come true. Though she struggles to let go of that wish anyway. Her whole story is a constant struggle between harsh, undeniable truth and warm, sugarcoated fantasy.

Kokichi Ouma (from New Danganronpa V3)

The Ultimate Supreme Leader, the ringleader of an international criminal organization and the orchestrator of a thousand crimes - or so he claims, along with a million other lies.

A boy with a surprising level of quick-thinking, insight and observation skills, being able to analyze little details and predict scenarios to an unnerving degree. However, his intellect is often overlooked due to his off-putting personality taking the spotlight instead.

Always acting undeniably childish, he can swing between excited and bored at a whim, and has a bad hobby of infuriating his peers by insistently pressing buttons and instigating chaos of some kind. Most prominently though, he has a constant habit for lying about anything and everything, whether it serves any purpose or none; it's difficult to discern whether he's being honest or not at any given moment.

This is the masquerade he puts on for everyone, at least.

In truth, he's just a simple, fun-loving kid who enjoys slightly risky but exciting pranks, embracing a policy of no harm or killing people - which is unfortunately coming into direct conflict with the macabre killing game he's been forced into participating. Thus, he puts on this lying mask—where the one thing he won't lie about is his respect for a gentle lie.

After all, the truth is that he's surrounded by would-be murderers - if you are to hold the truth in such great esteem, then you have to be prepared to accept its cruelty just as much. To not would be a lie of its own, and a bad one at that.

Nero/Ulylihya (from the Surge Concerto series)

An ordinary girl who was summoned from another universe many, many millennia ago.

Her summoning was completely forced, unwilling and sudden, with her treatment after being no better - she was harnessed as a means to manipulate the very laws of the universe and its science—a power on the level of gods and beyond—before being killed and her spirit shoved into a machine to continue being utilized for her universe-manipulating power, albeit on a smaller scale now.

Understandably, she harbors only two significant sentiments after her long, horrifying experiences: a desire to go back home, and a deep distrust—if not disgust or hatred—for the humans who summoned, killed and imprisoned her, their descendants included.

Her personality reflects these sentiments, being rather empty and emotionless unless the subject actually concerns the very, very few things she still cares about. She is not needlessly cruel to everything and everyone, and can in fact be a bit kind and silly even - but for the most part, all she exhibits is a distant sense of uncaring apathy.

That said, after being imprisoned for so long in an endless state of undeath, there is a part of her that is simply just very, very lonely - merely wanting companionship and a simple, calm life with some taste of happiness and kindness more than anything else now. Revenge, homesickness? A part of her just wants to be at peace, ultimately.

re: Ange - a cold and bitter personality / an internal conflict between a cruel reality and an unreasonable fantasy / her deep love for family (especially her brother, who she is not immune to completely glorifying and can and will call stupid and incompetent) / survivor's guilt and major depression / a complicated relationship with her guardian figure (aka what I imagine Tonia has between herself and the Tsaritsa).

re: Ouma - a childish trickster's behavior / a habit for instigating problems and strife / a strong moral code (that you need to dig hard for, to get admitted aloud) / hiding intellect behind a clown facade (that's somewhat not a facade either) / a somewhat sincere and serious personality being masked behind truthful lies and lying truths / the general concept of truth and lies as is.

re: Nero - a desire to just go home / a smaller desire to just live peacefully and happily / being a mere girl coincidentally having powers on par to gods / suffering at the hands of others because of said powers to a great, tragic degree / can be quite uncaring for anything and everything besides her few goals or her rare friends.

Name: Marsh Atyros

- Nickname: None

- Age: 27

- Appearance: He is tall with short silver white hair and an elated smile that is terrifying to anyone who knows him. Unlike his brother Daimion, he has very few scars and even fewer are visible. He is very strong with semi-muscular arms which have much more useable strength than is visible. He is also strangely flexible and double jointed so he can do that thing where you only bend the first section of your fingers down while the rest of the finger is straight. Dai always hated it when he did that.

- Occupation: Incarcerated. About to escape to have a fun wander around the countryside with his brother. (Dai does have more of a goal)

- Family Members: His mother is still alive but he hasn’t spoken to her since she sent them to join the military. He never really knew his dad, only that he left when marsh was young. He has a brother Daimion, who might be the only life he values at this point.

- Pets: None.

- Best Friends: Daimion. He also knows a few people in prison well enough to not kill them, but that doesn’t really count.

- Describe his room: Well his prison room is maximum security so just a toilet, a bed and a sink and his knives. (They have struggled to take them off him, but it always ends up with a too many dead prison guards for them to justify trying again.)

- Way of Speaking: He speaks playfully and honestly. He doesn’t like lying, it is a moral boundary for him, he never lies if he can avoid it. Marsh is actually the happiest character I have written in a long time and speaks with that joy.

- Physical Characteristics (Posture, Gestures, Attitude): He stands straight and never sits on chairs correctly, always lounging in positions that look incredibly uncomfortable but he assures you it is much better than just sitting normally. His military training shows in his natural posture but he actively tries to move away from that, preferring instead to move fluidly.

- Items in his Back Pocket/Purse: A butterfly knife to spin dramatically, a larger pair of knives for actually fighting, and a stiletto knife for vibes. (This was taken from him when he was sent to jail but as soon as he gets out, he acquires a new one)

- Hobbies: He exercises, a couple of murders here and there, he throws knives, spins a butterfly knife, is altogether bored and tries to provoke the guards outside his cell in any way possible. This has included singing to them.

- Favourite Sports: Well knife throwing is a sport… still deciding whether he has guns. Probably yes.

- Abilities/Talents/Powers: Marsh is built to be deadly. He takes life without regret, and greatly enjoys the process. As such he has a lot of practice from a life of killing lawfully in the military then a life of killing illegally when he was kicked out. He is very good at it.

- Relationships (How they are with other people): He is very loyal to Dai and deeply cares for him but is adamant that just embracing the psychopathic tendencies will help, Dai does not agree.

- Fears: Dai being overcome by guilt.

- Faults: None <3 (He is overconfident and stubborn)

- Good Points: He is loyal, honest and very talented with a variety of weapons. He also has a long memory.

DESCRIPTION:

When he was a 10 year old boy, he wanted to make some friends that are colorful and with his monochrome kinds of people and allies. But to his family, they are really busy taking care of their business lives and jobs while his parents are wanting him to have fun alone like things today. So he went back to bed. After 6 weeks he already started making friends that are colorful after his parents just accepted him. But something went wrong, His colorful friends

are started to become mean and use him the whole time. He was deeply heartbroken at his school, church, and even his community service for kids. So he ran away to his home. And he speaks directly toward his parents seriously and his family is deeply shocked about his life and passion. Ben-zi has already turned 16 years old after 6 years. So his parents give him a special surprise for his revenge. The package has a strange address from its location. Since his opening it, it is a Black Onyx that is shaped like a Tower-cutted along with his little body guard species named “Towergram '' which is his Shapie. Ben-zi and his whole family started to become antagonists along with the other ancestors. So the colorful people would mess with him and his ally again. This is where the story ends.

TRIVIA/STORY:

I was inspired by some other villains from other shows. And I'm also inspired of "Big Wolf" more like (惠泰莱) is one of the reason that I made Ben-zí Black. Normally, the color Black made me believe is an evil or reject color because of the darkness like shadows and more. And I was inspired by Caramelangel714's creation. That's why I give him the dark element.

when he does somehow peel himself off of work, he enjoys ballroom dancing

i can just imagine him putting on a vinyl song, holding up his arms and doing the steps to the dance (1, 2, 3... 1, 2, 3) and god forbid someone tries to come in during this time because he’d be too embarrassed to be lenient on their punishment

i imagine he’s super into learning other couple dances too like tango and salsa, so when you get together with him count on being his partner!

i bet he also loves teaching other people things-- like genuinely, considering he is the oldest of the seven (his brothers just test him LOL)

incredibly patient when showing you the steps, taking pride in your improvement and growing warm at the thought of you being able to dance with him at the next chance you get

and his weakness???? online shopping on akuzon 

which, when you find out, makes him extremely embarrassed and depending on whether you have the same past time-- you may or may not buy everything on akuzon

on his home screen interaction dialogue, he says something along the lines of “Akuzon is too convenient... it’s easy to buy a lot of things” while blushing

so I’m thinking sometimes when he does take a breather from his workload, he scrolls on akuzon just browsing for things because it’s quick

and ends up putting like 5 things into the cart  that he doesn’t really need

doesn’t always follow through and buy everything, but he definitely has moments where he impulse buys and it’s gone to bite him in the butt when packages arrive in droves and his brothers are like ??? why are there so many things

Mammon

loves music-- both listening and making it!

likes making his own mixtapes and playlists

and when he gets to share it with you, he’s so nervous; but the giddy happiness he feels when you tell him that it’s good is SO worth the wait and time he puts into his music

he’d be happy just having his mixtapes and music to himself but being able to share it with someone makes it a lot sweeter

definitely makes playlists for and about you because sometimes the feelings he can’t put into words he can tell you through music

idk if he has a recording studio in his room, but i think it’d be pretty fitting if there was

at some point likes to DJ as well, though he’s not too good as it rn, but he definitely loooooves playing with the sound effects and tracks

asides from reading, loves traveling when he can whenever he can

has a very creative mind and deft hands meant for craft (among other things ahem)

as a fashionable person and a trendsetter, he’d love making his own jewelry and clothes, picking out the beads and metalware for the earrings or bracelets and feeling out the cloth and stitches for his outfits

if levi IS into making cosplay, it’d be such a nice way for them to bond together since Levi is pretty good with picking out material too

i like to imagine he enjoys making jewelry for his brothers too:

a stud earring for mammon, maybe convincing him to explore other options and wear other jewelry too

giving his brothers the options of clip on earrings if they wanted to try something temporary, gives satan a golden bracelet, lucifer a silver ring etc

you know what they say about big hands

big, strong hands, good for crafting that involves a little more strength, but considering he’s a pretty tender and patient guy, is great at sculpting with clay, which extends to pottery as well

just imagine him sitting near a kiln, spinning the clay and using his hands to shape the curve and notches of a pot

considering how many plates and bowls he’s probably eaten, it makes for a good way to replace them HAHA

good at crafting with glass too considering it requires steady hands and strength to spin glass evenly

enjoys a lot of arts and crafts and loves giving them as gifts, especially if they’re made from his own hands

one of the main reasons why he started and likes doing these as a hobby actually

adores the look on you face when you created a glass terrarium for your plants or created glass ornaments dyed with your favorite colors

would definitely be the type of person to put his hands on yours as he teaches you how to shape the clay and have plenty of fun with you watching you try to make glass ornaments with or without success

during his waking hours, he loves to study the stars

loved to watch them in the human world, but without a night sky, he’s content with looking up for constellations in books from the library

if you buy him the cute lamp that lights stars onto the ceiling, he’ll find you so endearing because he’d enjoy lying in bed with you and just looking up at the lights and being in each other’s arms-- imagining the day he gets to do this with you for real, on a picnic blanket, looking up at the moon and stars

i imagine he’d like to doodle too

i say MAINLY doodles because they’re easier like drawing chibis or whatever thinks is amusing and lowkey keeps him awake (though Lucifer doesn’t like it when he draws on the desks)

does sometimes go all out and draw amazingly well, whenever the mood strikes him

when you ask him, he jokingly says you’re his muse; but honestly wouldn’t put it past him to have drawn a portrait of you, awake or asleep, at some point

surprisingly good at sewing-- or at the very least mending rips and tears

i feel like beel has a lot of ripped shirts (...from being, yknow, ripped) so he’s gotten pretty good at simple stitches, which eventually evolved into something more

didn’t start off as a hobby but he did eventually find it soothing to sew and embroider

Build: Petite and quite thin, Laci looks almost frail to most people and can be easily mistaken for a teen or preteen. She has a short torso and long limbs for her height.

Face Shape: Laci has a rounded face with a pointed chin, full cheeks and high cheekbones.

Eye Color/Shape: bright amber/Hazel. Deep-set with heavy, almost droopy eyelids and very thick lashes. Laci usually has a sort of sleepy look to her eyes, accentuated by her permanent dark circles and under eye bags.

Hair Color/Style: About shoulder length with a natural 2B/2C curl pattern. Her hair is naturally black but she has a badly bleached portion in the front that looks bright orange. Has very short, somewhat uneven bangs and her hair is a little shorter in the front than the back. Usually worn up in pigtails or twin buns.

Skin Tone/Texture: Unnaturally smooth and pale with an under-saturated yellow undertone. Doesn't look particularly healthy.

Distinguishing Features: Laci is very short and this is usually the first thing people notice about her -- she also has very large, expressive eyes. She has both eyebrows pierced, a nostril piercing on her left side and snakebites. Both ears have triple lobe piercings and two helix piercings.

Posture: Depends on her current emotional age but as a general rule, Laci's posture is somewhat folded in on herself, somewhat shy and insecure. When she's at an older emotional age, her posture is more confident and open. Laci's body language is dreamy and distant, her steps usually slow and unsure. She walks through the world like she's in an endless dream.

Voice: Somewhat nasal but with a distinct huskiness/vocal fry -- her actual pitch is somewhat higher and definitely comes across as a little bit childish.

Clothing Style: Laci is very much a goth -- she's almost always wearing at least one piece of clothing with mesh or fishnet (she doesn't like lace as much) -- the primary colors in her wardrobe are black, charcoal gray and purple, with occasional hints of neon green. She prefers pants and shorts with tights over skirts and dresses. She tends to prefer lays -- wearing tank tops over mesh shirts under hooded sweat shirts and so on. She has a fondness for collars and very high platform boots. Overall Personality:Chaotic and trickster-ish. Laci is an enigma to most of the people around her, often including herself. When she comes to care about someone, she's incredibly protective of them to the extent that she can be and will do about anything to make them happy or keep them safe.

Deep down, Laci is frustrated with her inability to remember most of her human life and desperately wishes she could regain it -- however, most of her efforts are currently focused on preventing the Awakening of a being she knows only as The Myriad Eyes, which Laci believes will cause the end of the world if it does wake from it's slumber. Her methods of doing so are...erratic and often nonsensical due to her lack of general knowledge about the thing, seeing only glimpses of it through her precognition and sight.

Little Laci: Mostly the same as Big Laci (described above) but less able to focus on her goals, more dependent on others and more emotional.

-In Love: Laci can't remember being in love. She knows vaguely that she was dating someone who had broken up with her just before she became a vampire but more than that is blurry. When she does crush on someone (which is rare) she's usually very shy around them, having difficulty speaking and becoming very awkward (think moe anime girl)

-Under Stress: Erratic, irritable and far more emotional than usual. Laci becomes inconsolably upset when under stress very quickly -- prone to lashing out in anger and having complete breaks from reality of the stress is severe enough. Stress is also the number one trigger for Laci's age regression, the more intense the stress, the further back she slides.

-Alone: Laci doesn't really get to be alone due to being haunted by her best friend as a human who she accidentally killed after her Change...When it's just Laci and Amy, Laci can be very quiet and withdrawn, just focusing on whatever task is at hand and desperately hoping Amy doesn't decide to cause any problems.

History

Birthplace: Santa Marta, California

Childhood:: Laci can remember her fifth birthday where she had her first vision of the future and of the party being ended prematurely. She also remembers starting therapy at twelve.

Adolescence: Laci remembers her first day of middle school -- which went rather badly, remembers going to anti-prom and getting kicked out of her parents' house at 18.

Adulthood: What little Laci can remember of her adulthood, she was working as a barista at a local coffee shop while working with a group of friends on a local anarchist zine. She was dating one of the editors on the zine until he cheated on her and broke up with her on October 20th 1998. During a manic episode that followed, she cut her hair and bleached her bangs (with the intent of dyeing them purple). She and her best friend were kidnapped by a vampire outside a local goth club on Halloween.The vampire would turn Laci and leave Amy in the room with her to kill during her first feeding. The trauma of her change (which occurred fully within only three hours) and subsequently murdering her best friend seems to have induced age regression and severe amnesia in Laci. She cannot recall the name or appearance of her Sire or even the majority of her life, outside of small snippets from here and there.

Recent: Laci has been living in Santa Marta in the Revenant Community since they found her in 2002. It's not sure if she's actually part of the Revenant bloodline or not but they don't really care about that. She's got a small apartment in Bram Park, not far from the Sidetracks bar, which contains one of the main entrances to the Underground.

Betty Braithwaite would remember her childhood fondly. It was simple yet the love between her parents and herself was bountiful. She couldn’t recall her early years, just flashes of her mother’s smile and her father’s glasses as they played with her. JACQUELINE and NICHOLAS BRAITHWAITE were both Muggle university professors. Jacqueline would teach english literature whilst Nicholas had his doctorate in ancient cultural studies and anthropology. Despite their busy schedules, they consistently made time for Betty, who grew up in their small apartment in Oxford. Betty had a curious mind, she learnt to read early just so that she could flip through the pages of her mother’s books and read the captions to the beautiful graphics in her father’s research. Homeschooled by both her parents, she developed a passion for literature and history. It was only when Nicholas returned home to Betty sitting on the living room floor with books floating around her that her father realised that she was not ‘normal’. Nicholas knew exactly what was going on as he’d witnessed such things before. Whilst Betty’s father was a Muggle, his brother, GABRIEL BRAITHWAITE, had been born a wizard. Nicholas had known about the wizarding world since childhood but had chosen to bury the memories deep. What should have brought the Braithwaite brother’s closer, only drove a deeper wedge between them as Nicholas remembered the jealousy towards his brother and feared that Betty might one day choose her uncle over her own parents.

And so the secrecy in the Braithwaite household began, Nicholas hiding it from not only Betty, but Jacqueline as well. If anything strange occurred, Betty’s father would try his hardest to blame it on a natural phenomenon or simply pretend as if nothing had happened. He refused for his beloved daughter to be swallowed by a magical world that had done the same to his brother. Betty hardly noticed. She just lived the life that she assumed every other child was living too. She didn’t have many friends whilst growing up in Oxford but then again, she did. Her friends were the knights and princesses, the dragons and donkeys, all things big and small that were in her stories. It didn’t take long before Betty craved more, desired more and eventually she began to write her own stories which were sequels to the books she had already read. As she grew older, Betty became a girl of honesty and wisdom. Her moral compass had been nurtured by fairy tales allowing her to know between what was right, what was wrong and what was grey. It was at this time that her first letter to Hogwarts arrived. Nicholas immediately disposed of it in the fireplace but before long, new letters seemed to appear everywhere and whilst Nicholas tried his best to keep them from Betty, it wasn’t long until she noticed something was up and that her father was lying to her. Almost like a feeling in her bones, she waited one night by the window only for an owl to appear and deliver the letter in her hands. Betty could not believe her eyes as she read the letter, yet something inside her knew that it was not a prank or false. Betty Braithwaite was a witch, just like in her story books.

After confronting her father about it, she discovered that he had known all along and had kept a whole part of her life from Betty. Upset, she reached out to her uncle, asking if he’d take her to Diagon Alley for the supplies she needed to start her schooling career at Hogwarts. Whilst her relationship with her father was strained, she forgave him and still loved her parents dearly, promising to come back every term holiday. The following day she had been whisked away to a magical alley with so many curiosities she could barely contain herself. It was during this trip that she met her cousin, ZYRELL BRAITHWAITE, who was twenty-one at the time and had finished his own Hogwarts career. The three of them sat down at an ice-cream parlour and spoke for hours about Hogwarts and the wizarding world. The following morning it was finally time for Betty to board the Hogwarts Express and begin her journey in self discovery. On the train Betty met the most interesting pair of twins, GIDEON and FABIAN PREWETT who were also starting their first year at Hogwarts. They were just as interested to meet a Muggle-Born but warned her that there were many on the train and at Hogwarts that would simply discriminate against her due to her blood status. During the sorting ceremony Betty was sorted into Ravenclaw and sat next to a friendly young boy named BOOKER BAGNOLD. Whilst the two of them would grow in different directions, Booker became someone that Betty held dear, someone she could always touch base with. Despite Booker’s apparent popularity, most people recognising him as HARRISON BAGNOLD’s younger brother, she knew that he was someone she could rely on.

Being in a world where magic wasn’t just myths and fairytales was overwhelming but Betty took it one day and book at a time. She read endlessly about the history of the wizarding world, Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic and anything else she could get her hands on. Her thirst for knowledge of this new world just couldn’t be quenched. She excelled in most of her classes and studied harder for the ones she struggled in. Life at Hogwarts was fun and exciting but with every happy day she had a bad one too. The Prewett twins had been right and although Betty kept quiet about her personal life, including her blood status, it wasn’t long until she was being pushed around in the corridors or someone hexing her. This is how she met AMELIA BONES, a Hufflepuff girl who stood up for her at every chance she could. Betty appreciated the help and refused to let some stuck up students get her down. She belonged in that school just as much as anyone else did. As she studied harder to prove herself, she discovered that she was gifted with divination. Betty was specifically talented in being able to tell if someone was lying to her or withholding the whole truth. That’s how she knew her father was keeping something from her, how she knew when and where to wait for the owl with her letter and how she knew kids like WALDEN MACNAIR were just as afraid of their peers as anyone else was. Whilst Betty kept this gift to herself for most of her school career, it’s only when she became friends with RITA SKEETER, CAMILLE ROWLE and DAISY HOOKUM that she began to put it to use. Due to her writing hobbies, the four girls had decided to start the Weekly Raven, a school newspaper that centred around Quidditch matches, gossip and all things Hogwarts.

In her final year, Betty looked back at her Hogwarts career and could honestly say that she enjoyed it. She also realised that Hogwarts was just a gateway into the larger wizarding world which excited her so much. She was ready to ace her final exams and looking forward to a potential career in either investigative journalism or possibly becoming an author. It was just before the winter break when Betty found out the horrific news that her parents had been murdered. She wasn’t given much information other than it seemed as if someone had broken into their flat and murdered the two in their sleep using magic. Betty was devastated and furious that the aurors had treated it as just another killing in a string of muggle murders. From what Betty discovered, this so-called string of murders had been going on for a while and the lack of effort from the ministry was disgusting. During the winter break she stayed with her uncle and Zyrell. She had made up her mind, she was going to become an investigative journalist and expose the ministry for its corruption. She passed her N.E.W.T.s with flying colours and sent out her cv to multiple papers and magazines. Her most promising option was The Daily Prophet. About a month before she was about to start, the editor in chief, BARNABUS CUFFE sent Betty an owl saying that their current Investigative Journalism department was full, but if she was still interested in becoming part of the Daily Prophet team, they had an opening in the Arts and Entertainment department. Betty’s heart sank, but she still accepted in the hopes that having her foot in the door was better than nothing.

She packed her bags and moved into a shared house with a few other aspiring journalists including Daisy and THEODORE STEBBINS. Betty would work hard all day, trying to impress all those above her in the hopes that she may one day move up to investigative journalism. It wasn’t until EDWARD TONKS moved into their house and shared with her that he had a position in the Investigative Journalism department that she felt despondent. She had worked so hard for so many years yet here was someone, fresh out of Hogwarts, that had landed a position in the department. Regardless, the two got along well and she held her head up high. She continually attempted to send Barnabus examples of her work in the hopes that he’d one day publish them and she could start doing some meaningful work that could actually change peoples lives. After a long day at work, she would go visit The Hopping Pot and would offer to help close up. This is how she met AMIRIA MACNAIR, a young potioneer who had a lot of potential ahead of her. She recently started spending her free time with Rita, the two of them had a good connection by now and the chemistry between them was undeniable. It was through Rita that Betty discovered that one of the reasons she hadn’t been promoted was her lack of connections amongst the young wizarding elite. This prevented her from being moved upward. Betty was angry that her connections were holding her back instead of being promoted for her quality of work. She promised herself that one day she’d find a way to get published and expose the Ministry and its friends for the corruption within.

sophia grew up in brooklyn. her mother an aggressive alcoholic and a father that enabled her. it wasn’t an obvious thing for sophia at first. she had the ideal childhood even though she was born to teen parents. christmas, birthdays, and other holidays were a very big deal with her family. it wasn’t until she got older did she notice that her family wasn’t picture perfect. it was the small things. her mom forgot to pick her up a gymnastic practice, waking up before her mom, finding bottles hidden underneath bathroom sinks. sophia also questioned where her father was for days at a time and come home with luxurious gifts for sophia. one day he came home with a new iphone for her even though she had just gotten the new upgrade only four months earlier. this lead to sophia lying. she lied to her friends about how her mom was, what her dad’s job was -- she still isn’t sure. sophia started lying about small things, things that didn’t matter. if she had picked up bananas at the store for her mother, how she promised she didn’t get any lunch money to her school, how gymnastic practice was canceled, or that a relative died. this habit started around thirteen. 

the one thing sophia didn’t lie about was how good she was at dance and gymnastics. think maddie ziegler. she was well known around her area for being a solo dancer in competitions. when sophia was nearly 17 she tore her acl while dancing. it ruined her desire to be a professional dancer. while in rehab for her acl sophia became functionally addicted to pain pills. she also entered the party scene after her acl surgery and got a fake id at 18 and started attending clubs and bars regularly. she quickly got into a scene that could be very dangerous and her parents were not exactly happy about that -- rather her father wasn’t happy about that. her father expressed his feelings but once again sophia lied and lied and lied more and her father was preoccupied with his drunk wife and them fighting, that sophia’s partying lifestyle went unnoticed. at a party she met a boy named nova gallo. she fell in love instantly. the two were inseparable. they injected themselves into each others lives. where he was, she was and where she was, he was. it was quick and not just movie story quick, but quick. they knew each other for a total of three months before getting married. and now the two are at the manor for their honeymoon.  

—  personality :

If you were to describe sophia in two words, she would be intense and passionate. she is passionate about everything in life, right from her career to relationship, to hobbies to lovemaking; simply everything. she’s a very intense woman and it shows; take note of sophia’s eyes, as it is her one feature that usually stands out. her eyes are typically unique and hypnotizing. her cool, but, mesmerizing stare often indicates that she is interested in you; and is trying to dissect you. sophia is ambitious, hardworking, and is usually successful in her life. she has great leadership qualities ( hence being the managing nail tech at the salon she works at ) and loves ( and often craves for ) power. passionate, determination, will power, and hard work are the pillars for sophia’s personality.

she’s going to be attached at the hip with her new husband. its going to be annoying for some people and it would be interesting if there was someone(s) who just find her absolutely annoying when she’s with her husband but enjoys her when she’s on her own. maybe someone who disapproves of them being together because they feel like sophia’s such a different person outside the marriage.

A Little Lost and Lonely

The Murder Trio Part 4

Previously

        Nullity was the first to leave. Without bothering to communicate with her siblings she sought out Inkdrop and asked her to take her back home to her girlfriend's house. Nos left not too long after that. They went back to their mother's house.

       Only Nepenthe remained in Sornieth. She wanted to track Naperone's trail. But Sepulchral stopped her.

        “Guerra is already on his trail,” He pointed out “I think he wants to kill him himself.”

         “But I was supposed to!” Nepenthe growled “I was supposed too…”

         “Maybe you were wrong.”

          Nepenthe glared at Sepulchral “I'm the Goddess of Revenge! What better destiny than to take revenge on my father by taking his life? He's ruined plenty. It only makes sense to take his to make up for everything that he's done.”

           “Listen Nep, I'm not trying to defend Naperone. I know he's a bad guy and I hate everything he's done too but… I don't know it's just worrying that this is all you care about.”

            Nep’s feathers rose along her neck as she growled once more “I thought you of all people would understand why this is so important to me! I guess I was wrong. About you, and my siblings.” She sulked away from Sepulchral and slumped in a lonely corner of the clan’s lobby.

           A black nocturne with hot pink spikes, and a nose ring approached her.

           “Hey,” he said and held out a paw “Name’s Eumoirous, I'm the God of Shared Interests and I don't believe we've properly met before.”

           Nep stared at his outstretched paw for a moment and did nothing “You're Sepulchral's friend.” She said.

           Eumoirous put his paw back down “Yeah. Why?”

           “He told you to come talk to me, didn't he?”

           “No. I came over because you looked like you needed some company. But if you don't want any that's fine. I'll leave.” He began to turn around when Nep looked up at him.

           “Wait! Please… please stay.”

         “Alright,” Eumoirous sat down next to her and they were both silent for a moment “Hey, you wanna come over to my place? I live in the Land of Love. You ever been there?”

          “No and it sounds awful.”

         “Oh it is. My sister has decorated it with pastel colors and flowers. It's absolutely appalling.”

         “Why do you want to invite me?”

         “Because I think you need a friend other than Sepulchral.”

         Nepenthe puffed up again “I have friends! There's… there's… I guess Nullity was my friend,” she frowned “Whatever. I don't need any other friends. I lived most of my life alone. I can live the rest of it alone too.”

         Eumoirous shrugged “Alright. You wanna live an eternity alone. That's cool. You do you.” he began to get up again when Nepenthe grabbed his arm and yanked him back much harder than she intended.

       “Wait! Fine. I'll go. But only to see how stupid those flowers look.”

       Eumoirous smiled “Alright. Let's find Inkdrop.”

       ***

      Inkdrop dropped the two gods off next to the palace gates.

The Land of Love was exactly as Eumoirous described it. Full of pastel colors and fields of flowers. Hummingbirds and butterflies darted from flower to flower, and all of the buildings resembled dollhouses. The palace was no different. It was pastel pink and built like some sort of giant Barbie doll mansion.

Now away from Sornieth both Nepenthe and Eumoirous were in their true humaniod forms. Nepenthe stood taller than Eumoirous with freckled dark ochre skin and long black curly hair. She had the same dark red eyes as her dragon form, and thick muscular arms. Her feline ears were tufted with black fur and at the end of her long tail with a neon green pitch fork symbol.

Eumoirous was not only shorter than Nepenthe, but was skinnier with no muscle and he had pale white skin. He had neck length black hair that fell over his face, covering one of his purple eyes. Nepenthe could tell his hair was dyed because his natural brown roots were starting to show. Like Nep, Eumoirous’s ears were also tufted. Unlike Nep his face and ears were covered in piercings included his classic nose ring and snake bites. He was dressed in all black and on the tip of his tail was a pink heart.

“Well you weren't lying,” Nepenthe said “This place is horrid.”

Eumoirous snorted “Tell me about it! But hey, at least it makes my sister happy. C’mon, I’ll show you around.”

Eumoirous led Nepenthe inside the pastel pink mansion. The inside wasn’t much different. It was pink with lacey furniture and more flowers. Eumoirous took Nepenthe onto the second floor, where a black door stood out among the pink. Signs were plastered onto the door that included a skull and crossbones, a ‘do not enter’ sign, and a Green Day American Idiot album poster.

“Is that your room?” Nep guessed.

“That it is,” Eumoirous confirmed and opened it, revealing black painted walls that were mostly covered with posters of various things. From a quick glance Nepenthe spotted Undertale, The Walking Dead, and Panic At the Disco Posters. Snugly fitted in the corner of his room was a single bed with messy skull print covers. In the front of his room was a desk that held up a holographic computer with a monitor that was two feet across. The room had several windows but it was dark from the heavy blinds that blocked out the sunlight. From large speakers in the room My Chemical Romance played.

“As much as I love MCR, I’m going to turn it off just this once,” Eumoirous said “Because I brought you here for a reason. You’re lost, Nep.”

Nepenthe frowned “You brought me here cause you pity me?”

“No. That’s not what I said. Look, Sepulchral is your only friend isn’t he?”

“... So what?”

“I’m not trying to make fun. It’s just, as great as Sepulchral is he’s not always around when you want him to be. He’s been my best friend since we were kids, and i’ve learned that even though he wants to always be there for me, he just can’t. And that’s ok. But you can’t rely on him for everything.”

“I don’t. Because I don’t rely on anyone.”

“Yeah and that’s not good either. There’s no shame in wanting to be close to people. What I’m saying is… I don’t really have any friends other than Sepulchral either. And I’m not the best with people but… I don’t know. I just thought maybe i’d be able to help you with something I have trouble with myself.”

“So… You brought me here because you wanted to be friends?”

“I guess? If… If you want to be?”

“I don’t know you.”

Eumoirous’s ears flattened “So… that’s a no?”

“No it’s just… I don’t know what to think of you yet. But… yeah. Sure. I’ll try to get to know you. Why not? It’s not like anyone else wants to talk to me.”

Eumoirous perked up “Cool! Cool… um so. Let’s get to know each other better I guess? What sort of things do you like to do?”

“What do I like to do?”

“Yeah. Like any hobbies? Interests?”

“... I’m good at hunting. I can track and kill animals and cook them and skin them.”

“I know you had to do that stuff while living on your own but like… Do you actually like to do that?”

Nepenthe blinked “Like… Do I enjoy killing things so that I don’t suffer myself?”

“Yeah. I mean that’s cool if you enjoy hunting. Lots of mortals do. There’s a few moral and ethical concerns that could be debated about the practise when it’s just done for sport but that’s a whole ‘nother conversation.”

“I would never kill an innocent creature for sport. Only out of necessity.”

“I see… So. You don’t really enjoy hunting, do you?”

Nepenthe bit her lip “No… No I guess not.”

“So what else to you like? Like… any goals you’re aiming to accomplish?”

“I wanted to kill my father.”

“But that can’t be all that you wanted to do with your life.”

“I… I can worry about that after I kill him. Him being eliminated from existence is the only thing that matters now.”

“So, you literally don’t care about anything else?”

“Naperone is a monster. Of course killing him is everything that matters.”

“I already know he’s a monster. He took my mother away from me and tortured her.”

“... That’s right. You are Oxytocin’s son.”

“Yeah. So I already know just how much of a monster Naperone is,” Eumoirous sniffled “Knowing how much Oxytocin was suffering because of him, and knowing there was nothing we could do for her… It hurt. It fucking hurt so much. But you know what I did? What my sister did? What Reflection did? We lived. We continued to live and do the things that made us happy, because that’s what Oxy would have wanted. Sure maybe they were just distractions from the horrible situation Naperone put our family in, but it was something. What I’m saying is, I think you need to find some distractions too.”

“But don’t you want Naperone dead for what he did? Don’t you think he deserves it?”

“Of course I do. If it were up to me, I’d make him experience everything he made my mother feel. But you know what? It’s not up to me. Naperone is somewhere on the dragon planet. I wouldn’t know how to find him or capture him. So I just have to accept that and move on. My mother is safe now. She’s damaged, but repairable, and as long as she’s safe she will heal. So rather than focus on some impossible revenge, I’d rather support my loved ones. I’d rather just continue to live my life, and not let Naperone taint it anymore.”

“So I should just… let it go? Let Naperone go?”

“Yeah.”

“But I can’t do that.”

“And why not?”

“... Because… Because I don’t know what else to do.”

“Then, why don’t I help you? I’m the God of Shared Interests after all. It’s literally my job to track the interests of mortals and how they use these interests to connect with each other. It’s how the mortals find purpose to their limited lives. It’s how they distract themselves from demon influences. It’s how they live,” Eumoirous gestured to the posters plastered on his walls “It’s worked for me. These are some of my favorite things that mortals have created. Playing horror games, reading fanfiction, listening to punk rock, they’ve all worked as excellent distractions from the awful reality that is the world. They helped me be me. They helped me find happiness even when the Goddess of Joy herself was miserable.”

“So… You want to help me find another interest other than wanting to kill my father?”

“Yeah. I think it’ll be good for you.”

“But what’s in it for you?”

“Uh… Friendship?” Eumoirous smiled awkwardly.

“I still don’t understand why you’d want to be friends with me.”

Eumoirous shrugged “Why not? You don’t seem like a bad person. Maybe a little lost, but that’s ok. I mean if you don’t want to be friends that’s cool too but… I don’t know. I’ve never been very good making friends. I’m lucky enough to be friends with Sepulchral, but he’s a busy guy and he can’t always be there when you want him to. It’s not his fault. And i’m ok with that but. It’s lonely.”

“Well… I guess that’s one thing we have in common then,” Nepenthe said “And friends are supposed to have some things in common, right? So, I guess we’re on the right track then.”

Eumoirous smiled “Yeah! Yeah, I guess we are. So uh. You wanna figure out what sort of things you like? You don’t seem like the type who’d like video games, or My Chemical Romance very much. Or maybe you do, but I think I know something you will definitely like. So you don’t like hunting because that involves killing something, but what about target practise? You’ll be using what you already know from hunting, but without killing anything! We have some targets out back. Believe it or not, i’ve got a pretty good aim at a crossbow. So why don’t we go outside and do that with our favorite weapons?”

Nepenthe shrugged “Sure. Why not?” She summoned her spear.

“Ok great!” Eumoirous summoned his crossbow and led Nepenthe outside where the targets were. There were already a few arrows lodged into some of them.

Nepenthe aimed her spear, and she threw it. It just nearly missed the middle.

“Wow! Good shot!” Eumoirous said, clearly impressed.

“Feels weird to aim at something that’s not alive.”

“Yeah. I think i’d feel weird to hit something that’s alive,” Eumoirous said “I’m lucky. I’ve never had to use my crossbow on anything, or anyone.” He aimed and shot. His arrow didn’t hit to middle, but it wasn’t too far off.

“You certainly know how to use that though,” Nepenthe commented.

“Yeah. I like to practise with it. But I think I’d be too scared to actually try to hurt anyone with it. Even if they’re a monster.”

“So you wouldn’t even hit Naperone with it?”

“I would if I have to. But I wouldn’t be happy about it. Don’t get me wrong. I want Naperone to be in pain. I’m just a coward.”

“I don’t think that’s it,” Nepenthe said as she retrieved her spear and threw it again, this time it hit the target dead in the center.

“Holy shit. Good job!” Eumoirous cheered “But what do you mean?”

“You’re not a coward. You’re gentle.”

Eumoirous was in the middle of shooting his crossbow again, but Nepenthe’s words made him jerk back and the arrow missed the target completely “Sorry, what?”

“You’re gentle.”

“What? No I’m not!”

“Oh. Sorry. I didn’t mean it to be an insult.”

“I’m not gentle. I’m tough. I’ll admit I’m a coward. But I’m a cool tough coward! I’m not sweet or gentle! Not like… Not like Niossa.”

“Of course you’re not sweet and gentle like Niossa. You’re sweet and gentle like Eumoirous. And that’s not a bad thing.”

Eumoirous’s ear flicked “But I… I don’t know. Sorry. I just don’t want to be seen that way. That’s the way my sister is supposed to be. That’s how I was expected to be. Because gentleness… That’s typically a pretty feminine coded thing, you know? It’s not that men can’t be gentle or that women have to be gentle… But… I’m… I’m a trans guy. And I don’t want to be associated with typically feminine things if I can help it. I know it’s stupid. Maybe it’s wrong. But I just don’t like it, ok?”

“Ok. I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to offend you. But if you don’t like it, I won’t call you that. But gentleness really isn’t something to be ashamed of, and it doesn’t invalidate your gender.”

“I know. You’re right, but. I’d really rather not talk about this.”

“Fine. Subject dropped then.”

The two continued their target practise, neither saying anything.

Finally, Eumoirous spoke “So uh. You having fun? Or you wanna go do something different?”

“Yeah. This is pretty nice. It’s relaxing too. But I’d like to try something new. I want to listen to this My Chemical Romance you keep talking about.”

Eumoirous’s eyes widened “Uh… I don’t know… It's just this edgy angsty music mortal teens listen too…”

“But you seem to like it.”

“Yeah, But I like a lot of dumb stuff so…”

“Hey you’re my friend. So I’d like to try out some of the things you’re interested in.”

Eumoirous grinned “I’m your friend?”

Nepenthe smiled back “Yeah. Yeah you are.”

“Then yeah! C’mon I’ll go find my favorite song and we can listen to it together! And… And if you want we can play some horror games. Only if you want to though!”

“I think I’d like that.”

Eumoirous smiled “Awesome!” He took a step forward.

“Oh and Eu?” Nepenthe stopped him.

“Yeah?”

“Thank you. I think… I’m a little less lost now. And a little less lonely.”

“No prob. I’m glad to help. I really am.”

“Now lead the way! I want to hear your favorite song! And then I want to play your favorite games. Even if I don’t like them, I’ll still be happy to learn more about the things you like.”

“Yeah! And if you do like them, then that’ll be really cool!”

The two gods entered the dollhouse looking palace yet again and made their way to the second floor with Eumoirous’s bedroom. Once inside Eumoirous turned his music back on, and Nepenthe found herself excited to hear it. She was excited to share the moment listening to her new friend’s favorite songs. Maybe the music wasn’t exactly her taste, but it was clearly important to Eumoirous, and that fact made it enjoyable to listen to.

Nepenthe and Eumoirous spent the night playing horror games and listening to various albums of My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy. And not for a single moment did Nepenthe think about her father. She was too busy having fun.

job: Currently, a bounty hunter tracking down all manner of robbers, murderers, and outlaws. She was supposed to eventually help manage the family business, but a gorgeous woman rode through their lands one day and swept Cinn off her feet and far away from home

phobias: She doesn't have any common phobias like heights or anything, but she is deathly afraid of failing to save someone she had the power to help. She also dreads Shae catching up with her and is sometimes paranoid because of that

guilty pleasures: Playing her guitar. It's very dangerous for someone to be traveling alone in the wilds, and she should be doing her best to stay quiet at night so no one discovers her camp. But when it's late, and she's lonely, she can't help but strum a few tunes and sing softly to herself.

According to google, Saoirse means ‘freedom’. I picked it because I liked it, but it certainly is also applicable to her character.

02. What is one of your character’s biggest insecurities? Are they able to hide it easily or can others easily exploit this weakness?

She has tiny boobs, and she doesn’t like them and wishes they were bigger. 

She also wants to be taller.

She rests like a rock, and is known to pass out on anything that’s vaguely horizontal.

She lives in a castle with a lot of people, including, but not limited to: a vampire lord, multiple zombies of varying levels of intelligence (one of which is her brother), a handful of vampire spawn, a werewolf-demon hybrid thing, and an evil dragonborn who’s now considered painfully average.

As much as she was attracted to him, Saoirse still detests Strahd. Even though he’s dead, she doesn’t trust him to not come back and cause issues.

She’s flexible but not athletic, and would absolutely prefer lying down than doing anything strenuous.

She’s pretty content with Ravenloft, but if she gets too irritated she can always go up her mountain.

Saoirse is ready to throw down 110% of the time. And if she does get into one, she’s not above stabbing someone in the kidneys.

She’s pretty keen on animals but probably wouldn’t want to own one in her current circumstances. I mean, I wouldn’t trust the local undead with animals either.

She’s incredibly afraid of death. She’s seen her brother die twice now, and she’s died once herself. She’d be tempted to take Morgan up on his offer of undeath if she believed he’d actually turn her into a full vampire instead of a vampire spawn.

She has piercings all up her ears, used to have freckles before she changed, and has nipple piercings too.

She was pretty good at everything except physical/strength things. She wasn’t the most well-behaved though.

“Morgan is… something else entirely. He’s taller than I would like, too fond of his own voice, and a pain in my ass. But he’s also dedicated, willing to learn from his mistakes (for his own self-image if nothing else), and his body is nice too.”

Her brother dying right in front of her twice was pretty traumatic…

She’s pretty kinky so Morgan being a vampire isn’t that ‘quirky’ as far as she’s concerned. The blood-drinking was to be expected and she lowkey kinda likes it when he does.

The only thing that annoys her re. Morgan and sex is that her sex-drive is considerably higher than his is, and he’s too focused on his ‘evil vampire schemes’ to notice half the time. She basically needs like neon lights and some sort of siren to get his attention, and even then it’s not guaranteed. 

27. If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?

She’s an assassin so I would imagine it would be murder. 

28. If your character became a celebrity, what would they be famous for?

Probably a sex-tape…

I’m not sure if revenge is courageous but she cut out the tongue and broke the fingers of the wizard who killed her brother the first time.

She loves a good play! Especially comedies.

She looks pretty creepy (white hair, eyes and very pale blue skin) and like she could murder someone in their sleep - considering she is an assassin, that assumption is very correct.

Nah not really. She’s pretty open about what she likes and dislikes.

Yeah. She adores her brother, but her parents can go fuck themselves as far as she’s concerned.

She kinda regrets coming to Barovia. Nothing good happened there.

It’s already happened twice...

She’s a very jealous person so she’s viable to lose it if she thinks something’s off.

She has nightmares about Strahd coming back, her brother dying for good, and about herself.

Does that mean the others had not any talents in the first place, except Suihara, Maki and someone else? I read that the others might have not been talented, but they have been pretty close in regards to that matter. What do you think was Ouma's talent? Even if he was supposed to be a "normalo" in reality, he was way too clever not to have one. Or let's say his greatest "strength" instead of "talent."

The whole bit about which ones did and didn’t have talentswas definitely a bit confusing near the end, and left people very uncertain. Pluswith added twists like Maki’s talent cover-up, the fact that Ouma is constantlylying about his supposed evil organization and true talents/objectives, andthat even people like Momota who had never actually completed objectivesrequired for their talent like actually going to space were included, meansthat there was even more confusion of what was or wasn’t real.

In the end, one of the only characters whose talent stillcounts as legitimate is Kiibo, by virtue of actually being a robot (and eventhen, that’s not exactly a talent so much as just…his existence). All of theothers, including Saihara and Maki, might have had hobbies, talents, andinterests, but were otherwise perfectly normal high school students prior tothe game’s start. The talents and backstories given to them were less aboutsubverting their personalities completely for the most part, and instead about buildingon aspects or interests within their personas which were already there, butaltering them slightly for the sake of the game.

One of the few audition tapes Tsumugi actually shows in theChapter 6 trial is Saihara’s own, and from it we can see that he askedspecifically to be a SHSL Detective on the show. His intentions at the timewere about being able to perform “cool closed-room tricks” that only adetective would excel at, but clearly his objectives and intentions weresubverted for the sake of entertainment on the show.

With Maki, she never actually believed that she was the SHSLCaregiver from the start; that part was only a ruse because she felt comingclean as the SHSL Assassin would only jeopardize her position with the othersand force her to confront aspects of her past which she didn’t particularlywant to think about or confront. She lied about being a caregiver because ofher days spent actually taking care of other children in the orphanage whereshe grew up (and again, we only know that she had this particular backstoryin-game, but not much about what her life was like outside of the game).

Even her talent of being an assassin was something providedto her in the game, though. My guess is that from an entertainment perspective,Tsumugi wanted to have at least one character on the show who was cold andruthless, and who had a definite in-game history of killing people. Thereforeregardless of whether she actually killed anyone herself or not, she’d still bea prime suspect for anyone who found out the truth, and her talent would bemore than sufficient to cause discord and suspicion among the group (as it didfor a while in Chapter 2).

Not much is known about Tsumugi’s talent and whether sheactually did have a superb knack for cosplaying outside of the game or whetherit was something she specifically asked for as her own talent while setting allof this up with the producers. Considering what we can glean from her inChapter 4, I’m inclined to think she did do cosplaying as a hobby in the realworld too; she mentions that before she got an “official sponsor” for hercosplaying, she simply worked “several part time jobs” to fund her hobby. Thatsounds much more like an ordinary, not SHSL interest turned fervent hobby thana lot of the other talents, and my guess is that she did specifically ask thatit be taken to the next level in-game.

But you raise a very good point in that just because theywere all “normies” doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have talents or things thatthey were good at! Clearly, aspects of their personalities might have been slightlytwisted, but I believe their inherent interests and talents were left the same.For example, in-game Saihara’s intentions are not about getting away with closed-roomtricks in order to look cool, but instead about cohesively bringing the group togetherand overcoming his own self-esteem issues. However, his love for novels(particularly the DR novels) and for mysteries and uncovering the truth aboutthings is clearly left in as part of his in-game persona.

People raise suspicions about Momota being a bully pre-gamebecause his audition tape was also shown, and said something along the lines ofwanting to participate in the killing game to get famous and earn cash. Butconsidering the degree to which this particular killing game show was regardedas a part of everyday life and entertainment in the ndrv3 universe, especiallyamong “normies,” I’d say Momota’s wishes weren’t too far off from what most ofthe audience probably thought while watching the game themselves. Even seeingthings like death, murder, and grotesqueness on the screen constantly, thesheer fact that it felt was designed to be caricatured and super over-the-topmade it feel fictional to theaudience, and therefore enviable. Ergo, I’m inclined to believe that Momota’ssuper supportive streak and willingness to back up and protect others as soonas he’s decided that they’re “one of the group” is also something inherent tohis character, even before the game started.

So now we arrive at the issue of Ouma. Unlike many of theother characters, by virtue of his entire backstory and even his talent itselfbeing imbued with SHSL Despair, his personality, memories, and backstory weretwisted far beyond the normal scope of most of the other characters’. I’vealready touched on the fact that I think this attempt to twist him too far isprecisely why Tsumugi’s plans backfired, and why Ouma was left knowing therewas a definite dissonance in his in-game memories, and never fell for thebrainwashing ploy at all.

Many people raise the question of whether his near-geniuslevels of perception and deductive reasoning were something given to him forthe game or not. I’m personally inclined to think that, yes, he was extremely smart even from before. Somany people get distracted by the fact that he was a comedian prior to the gamethat I think they have a lot of trouble meshing the extremely cunning,quick-witted Ouma we see in the game with the idea of a very mischievous butotherwise sweet kid who liked to wear clown masks and tell jokes.

The thing is, humor is essentially a weapon and a strength.Being a comedian, at least a good comedian, requires a tremendous amount oftalent, and the ability to be quick on one’s feet. Knowing how to cater to anaudience and how to act for a crowd is undeniably a talent, and havingknowledge about what makes people laugh or what they enjoy means it can also besubverted, turned against them, and used into a tool of provocation instead.

Even as a “normie,” I think Ouma was incredibly smart. It’ssimply that, had Tsumugi not attempted to twist his personality so drasticallyand imbue him with despair for the sake of trying to use him as her own pawn, Idon’t think he would ever have gone through with some of the things he didin-game, or been made so cynical, bitter, and malicious that he would literallyput his own life on the line for the sake of stopping the killing game.Pre-game Ouma might very well have agreed with people like Kaede and Momota onhow best to lead the group, but in-game Ouma was cynical and disillusionedenough by his own self-awareness that his objective switched very early on from“saving everyone” to “striking back at the mastermind” instead.

Anyway, thank you for this sort of question! I personallylove the idea that all of the ndrv3 characters were normies prior to the game,because I think it gives a lot of room for headcanons and interpretation, whilestill leaving the core of their characters intact. And as interesting and funas SHSL talents are, I’ve always very much felt that even in dr1 and sdr2 theywere meant to be a sort of commentary on the constant pressure in Japanesesociety to be talented and successful at all costs, no matter what, and thatthose who can’t make the cut are essentially culled and have their self-worthstepped on (see Hinata, for instance).

These are very real problems which lead to serious issueslike an incredibly high rate of suicide attempts by high school and collegestudents in Japan. Therefore, I’ve always admired DR’s ability to say thatwhile yes, talent is all well and good, sometimes the desperate need to betalented in society is precisely what causes problems in the first place. Ilike the idea that characters in a DR game can remain important and core partsof the game regardless of whether they have SHSL talents or not.

Annotations on Falling in Love with Love (Again)

FiLwL(A) is my 3zun cinderella which is actually just about the importance of qin su and also reuniting with your exes. Here’s my behind the scenes/notes/lore for chapters 9-11. 

ch 9: nie mingjue being hot

i wrote this before i’d even written the Murder in ch 6;;;;; i just love nie mingjue

i so deeply believe in nie mingjue being smart and able to see through meng yao because he’s straightforward and strategic. 

“hmm” i said to myself. “how do i write the bois getting together??” after much thought i decided on “by stabbing one of them a bunch”

bits of this are still funny to me. rip meng yao sometimes you gotta be up close and personal with a hot dude’s bare sweaty chest 

also my version of “romantic and sensual” is just “doing math and deciding yeah, against your better judgement, you’re gonna smooch” because i love an overthinking murder twink

“on the bright side, the late-night guest was not jin guangshan’s type. unfortunately he was exactly meng yao’s type: nie mingjue” i can’t believe i let myself write this, bc it feels way too modern, but also the tone of this fic is just sarcastic enough that modern grouchy shit works

“xichen was disappointed when he didn’t see you there” “and you of course, weren’t” “on the contrary i was happy to see you” is one of the exchanges that was like. core to this fic. similar to “i met someone” “i don’t know what you want me to say to that” “neither do i”

when outlining fics i tend to include some key dialogue/exchanges that strike me as the Mood TM and half the time these exchanges go through incredible rewrites or just get deleted, but it’s always nice to see them survive

the xiangqi was so much fun to write, not bc i have played the game a bunch (i haven’t) but bc it gave me a fun way to talk about the conversation without talking about the conversation.

“a controlled leak qould have been very useful” makes me so happy it’s such a MOOD and nie mingjue immediately going heart-eyes over it is complete wish fulfillment. when will a hot sword lesbian be enamored over my ruthless scheming???? im taking sword lesbian gf applications over in my ask box

the opening where meng yao is being mean to qin su was so hard to write. meng yao getting overworked?? fine. meng yao getting abused??? cool. meng yao being slightly short with his sister, who is in no way hurt by this bc she can tell it’s not about her??? HORRIBLE!!!

the detective scene happened. there’s not a lot to say about it, i don’t think, except to note that han meilin did try to stand up for qin su

ch 11: impossible things are happening every day

ch 10 took time bc i wasn’t 100% sure how it would play out

this took time bc even though i knew exactly what would happen and how, it has to be Real Good, y’know? it’s tying up the entire fic. if these 2k words don’t work, then the rest of the fic will feel less good and ppl won’t come back to it

qin su and meng yao fighting over who gets to take the fall for their joint murder. i love them.

i wasn’t planning for this fic to start the sunshot campaign but here we are. in the war. 

How did this version of the sunshot campaign go? Well. not good. because someone has no reason to invent necromancy. But not as poorly as you’d think. Jiang Sect isn’t destroyed, and the Cloud Recesses are functional (although not at full capacity), so they have more strength on hand. Plus, Meng Yao encouraged Koi Tower to funnel money and resources into the Qin Sect, specifically so if the war started before he expected it to (whoops!!! it did!!!!), those resources would be somewhere he could encourage to fight. 

on the one hand, the sunshot campaign’s territory is divided in half by the wens. on the other hand, that means the wens are fighting on both the northern and southern border (since, again, jiang sect is still alive)

anyway i’d say it’s a more steady war, as opposed to my recollection of canon where like. everyone’s fucking miserable until our sexy goth boi comes out with his corpses and wrecks shop. 

then han meilin and qin su look at their families and say “if you do not let us marry right now in a way that combines our sects equally...... we will just do it anyway.” 

(meng yao in the background, holding a thin knife: fucking try me. try me. i want you to be mean to my sister just so i can stab you with my knives.)

anyway it’s time for the epilogue where meng yao is vice general and there is no more wen sect

(have i thought about the dafan wens in this ‘verse? no. i probably should not, either, as wwx would be less ride-or-die for them and that means maybe wen qing and wen ning would die in a war camp)

never mind!!! happy thoughts only!!!! like how qin su and meng yao are getting ready to kill again bc they are the bi crime sibling club!!!! 

jin zixuan is invited to family brunch but he’s never invited to bi crime sibling club because qin su and meng yao refuse to let him lose his innocence. 

“ge, jie, i’m married with children, i don’t have any innocence to lose--” “oh didi, precious baby, our infant brother, shining beacon of our heart...”

mo xuanyu is also forbidden from joining bi crime club. he’s too baby. 

they do discover other jin bastards and invite them to lunch and sure, there might eventually be another bi criminal.

3zun visits each other in 2 month chunks, with one to two month breaks as needed. so the epilogue is the beginning of 2 months hanging out in meng yao’s house, and then later in the year they’ll hang out in the cloud recesses or whatever

qin su and meng yao both have secret lists of places to acquire babies for each other. han meilin knows about both of these lists and laughs every time she sees the same orphanages on both lists.

the final comment from the xiyao troll on this was: “Interesting choice to write a bland ooc AU, but I guess this is all you can manage with your writing skill. ;) This way you don't have to worry about JGY lying to Xichen for years, murdering NMJ, attempting to murder Xichen's family in the second siege, stealing secrets from the Lan sect, corrupting a healing song Xichen trusted him with, and fully betraying LXC's and NMJ's trust.”

like. yeah. of course i sidestepped the bad things. that’s what a fix-it au is for. it’s where i say “here’s an alternate universe, where certain bad things do not happen.” it’s where i say “if meng yao had always had qin su around to counteract the messaging his mother gave him, he might not have gone so far in his quest for power”. duh. 

also like kiddo, troll, friend. the pitch for this fic is “cinderella except with murder and qin su rights”. i’ve been clear from the top that this is an Indulgent Fic with No Pretenses of Quality. im proud of some sentences and passages, but this ain’t Blood In The Cut where im tryna Say something or either of my jiang cheng-centric fics where im focusing on good characterization.
