Characters: Lloyd Hansen, Nick Fowler (Professor AU)
Summary: you return to campus is less than glorious.
Part of the Bad Professors AU
Note: Please leave some feedback and reblog <3 As always, I love to chat with you all.
As you watch the man storm off in his wet jacket, you frown. Well, that’s a good way to make friends. Off to a great start, Ash.
You wince but stop yourself from backing away as a blurry figure hazes in your peripheral. You look over at the girl as she silently holds out a napkin.
“Oh, jeez, thanks,” you laugh nervously. “Can ya hold this for me?” You hold out your container as you accept the help. She’s the first person who hasn’t looked at your sideways. You keep hold of your coffee and sop up the mess. “I’m fucking idiot sometimes. I was so focused on the noodles.” You glance around at the tables, “shit fuck, this place is crowded, huh?”
You crumple the napkin and reach for your container. You zero in on the girl. She hasn’t said a word. She looks anxious too. It sort of makes you feel better.
“Quiet, huh? Well, shit, I just can’t stop talking,” you smirk.
“Um…” she gulps. “I got a table…” she points over her shoulder.
You smile, “thanks, that’s nice but… okay. I guess things can’t get any worse.”
She bounces and turns, guiding you across the caf. You know how she fidgets. Definitely nerves. Maybe a freshman?
“I’m Ash, by the way,” you introduce yourself as you put your stuff on the table and sit.
“Auburn,” she replies.
“Ash and Auburn. One more and we could be musketeers or something,” you joke as you push your cup to the side and open your noodles.
“Oh, have you read it?” She asks. “The Three Musketeers, that is?”
“Nah, but I watched the movie. Oh, shit, did you see the real shitty on they made with Orlando Bloom. Fucking loved it. Trash movies, totally my ish,” you yammer as you unwrap the chopsticks. “But maybe I should give the book a try.”
She nods and taps nervously on her can of diet coke. She wears a gray gap hoodies and her hair is untamed. She’s a bit wild in appearance but you are in spirit. Besides, you don’t have any roomies to latch onto this year.
“So, Auburn, what do you study?” You ask and shove a buttload of chow mein in your mouth.
“Erm, computer science.” She answers and curls her shoulders inward.
“Awesome. I’m doing photography. More of the creatie sort. I’m just tryna push through my degree and decide if I wanna open up my own studio or what,” you shrug. “You know, the computer thing is smart though. No one knows how the fuck to use one.”
She nods and giggles. You don’t mind doing the yapping. That’s always been your problem but she seems content enough to listen.
“You live on campus?” You ask.
She nods.
“Yeah, I got me an apartment. Couldn’t afford the fees they charge at this place, but it’s nice. You know, I thought I was gonna be sleepin’ with cockroaches,” you shake your head then shudder at the thought. “You ever had a cockroach crawl over you while you’re sleeping?”
Her eyes widen and you laugh.
“Don’t ask,” you sniff. “Anyway, Auburn, thanks for letting me crash your party. Hope I’m not annoying you too much. I got a habit of it.”
“No, no, it’s okay,” she assures you and picks at her fraying cuff.
“You want some of them? They’re fucking bussin’,” you spiral a wad of noodles around the chopsticks.
She shakes her head. Well, more for you.
You sit with Auburn for a while. You only leave as you see the time and realise you need to go to the bookstore before your first class tomorrow. It closes in thirty.
“Damn, gotta scram,” you say as you pack up what’s left of your noodles. “I’ll text ya.”
“Sure,” she agrees and gathers up her bag. “Thanks.”
“Hey, don’t let these other fuckers get to you. They ain’t too cool for school,” you wink and head off.
You go to the basement and weave through to the bustling bookstore. You stop to search for the course code on your phone and walk blindly down an aisle. As you raise your head to search for 208C, you collide with an unexpected wall, a waft of stale coffee gusting up at you.
You back up and look at the man as he snaps shut the book in his hand and sighs. It’s that same man from the cafeteria. Oh no.
“Oh fuck, sorry, bud,” you say. “I was just looking for--”
“You. Again,” he snarls.
“Uh, yeah, hi, it’s me,” you confirm. “Look about before--”
“Do you need glasses or something?” He accuses.
“Er, no. 20/20 according to my eye doctor.”
“Not a real question,” he sneers.
“I said sorry. Really, I didn’t mean too.”
“You know, it doesn’t matter what you mean, it’s what you do,” he retorts.
“Wow, are you like a philosophy professor or something?” You ask.
His nostrils flare, “I’m none of your business, stupid girl.”
“Well, if I’m so stupid, you shouldn’t get so worked up about a question,” you roll your eyes and turn to the shelves to find your book. “Fuck.”
“Disgusting,” he remarks. “Someone needs to wash that mouth out.”
You ignore him. You’ve dealt with idiots before. The stupid frats call you a nerd but this guy wants to call you stupid. Men are too much to deal with so the best course of action is not to. You slide out a text book and double check your phone to match the code.
The price tag nearly gives you a heart attack. It’s a coursepack. They don’t sell them sued. You resign yourself to the expense.
The man lingers and you send him a wary look, “were you expecting something else?”
He glares at you then shakes his head. He shoulders past you, nearly knocking the book from your hands, and you turn to watch him stomp away. Well, what are the odds you run into the same asshole twice? Maybe that means you’re the asshole.
Big deal. Running into him a third time is a long shot. Besides, you’re less worried about some grumpy stranger and more uptight about the cost of the paper in your hands. You’ll be opting for fifty-cent ramen over the cafeteria special from now on.

・﹒・ but you have history
Summary: You were preparing your stall in the market as a florist when all the flowers suddenly disappeared from your home. A group arrived to help you find the culprit and you were forever gateful. But after getting stuck with the rabbit named Jax in a cage, he reveals something to you that shatters your world.
Warnings: 15+, existentialism, soft Jax
Pairing: Jax x NPC!reader
Notes: Sorry I like making Jax vulnerable. Also I never beta read have fun.
You angrily stared at the purple rabbit that got you into the current situation now- stuck in a cage, and with him nonetheless. How did you end up here? Well, after your flowers were stolen, a group of people arrived and promised they would get them back. After finding the culprit, you all chased them down. However, the thief put a trap down which led you and the rabbit to stepping on said trap and being lifted high in the air in a metal cage.
"You happy?" You snarked at the equally as upset rabbit. You were bad with names so you forgot his, but didn't care enough to ask for it again. Plus, he was rude to you first, so it was fair.
"Oh yeah, sure I'm happy. Of course I'm not happy! Ya know- if it wasn't for you running ahead we wouldn't be in this situation right now!" You couldn't believe his rudeness!
"Oh I'm the issue? How? What on Earth did I even do? Try and get my flowers back?" You both were basically screaming now, both angry at each other and the fact that you were both stuck in a cage.
"Oh please! I can't believe I'm arguing with a friggin' NPC..." N...pc? What did he just call you? The rabbit rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around his knees, pulling them up to rest his head on his forearms as he stared out
"What does NPC mean? If it was an insult that was a weird one I've never heard of before"
"You're fake, this whole world is fake, NPC means non-playable character" That made you still. Fake? Everything is fake? Lips wobbling, you shakily scooted over to him and grabbed him by his overalls and shook him. He had to be messing with you, there was no way your world was fake, no way.
"What you mean fake?' You yelled in anger, was he playing some kind of joke? Was he just trying to make you even more mad? He just let you shake him until he had enough and pulled away, pushing you slightly to gain some distance in the small space.
"Your life is all made up by zeroes and ones, computer code. You're not a real person, none of this is! Do you remember your mother? Your father? Anyone that doesn't exist in this village? Your first friend?" All his questions made you ready to argue back when it dawned on you that you didn't remember any of that. You couldn't even remember your parents' names, or faces, why couldn't you? Leaning back, you tried so hard to remember everything he asked you, yet, you couldn't answer a single one. Putting your hands over your head, you shrieked as he was right- everything was a lie. Tears quickly formed and you sobbed.
"So I'm not even real? Nothing is real?" You were breathing so heavily as the realization crashed onto you. But you just visited your mom last week! ....right? Oh no, what was happening? No, no, no, this can't be your life, you're real, you're real!
"Oh would you shut up?" You temporarily paused and looked up at him, gosh he was horrible. You slapped him in the arm, causing him to yelp and rub the area as he scowled at you.
"Oh, me shut up? Why does it matter? I'm fake right? So what does that make you? Aren't you fake too?" You were still sniffling as he sighed and rubbed his head.
"Because I've been trapped in this friggin' simulation for who knows how long. I was originally a human in the real world. This?" He then motions with his hand, waving around. "Is inside all a computer" You still felt on edge considering your whole life was a lie, but started to calm down.
"You mentioned this thing- computer- twice now. What is that?"
"Well, its a thing where you can have it do anything" You stared at him with your eyes wide, is that possible?
"Anything?" You whispered, in awe at what he said. Can it actually do anything? Well, considering it's possible of creating fake realities- then yeah, but that still just seemed impossible.
"Yep! Including your world. The AI that controls it makes these worlds to keep us busy. Its stupid" The rabbit wasn't looking at you now, he was staring outside the bars into what you now understood wasn't real, especially to him.
"Why busy? What happens if you're not busy?" The question caused his face to change, he looked almost...sad.
"Well, when we aren't kept busy and aren't kept sane uh...something called "abstraction" happens where we lose ourselves and become huge glitchy monsters. It's uh...not pretty" He looked so hurt as he curled in on himself, pained, like he wanted to cry. Slowly raising your hand, you rubbed it slowly against his back and couldn't help but feel like you wanted to comfort him. You may not have been real- but that didn't mean what you're experiencing right now isn't and couldn't help him.
"At least you don't have to worry about that stuff, you don't have to worry about your friends dying because they couldn't take it...haha. I mean, of course you'd go insane after being stuck in a world that isn't yours in a body that isn't yours and life is meaningless hahah" You knew he was hurting from his situation and still wasn't the kindest, but you still felt like you could make something out of this life, whatever it may be.
"But at least you have history, you have real memories. I...I don't. I learned that I only exist for you guys, ha...so what after this I'm just going to cease to exist? Is that it?" You decided to accept your fate- you weren't going to live anymore after this, you were going to die.
"That's the thing, NPC- every unlucky winner loses everything from the real world. Every single memory. It's so stupid!" He hit the bars, causing the cage to shake as you try and stable yourself from his anger. That made you feel sad as his anger was justified, but the excuse that your life was better because you were ignorant to your true nature.
"That's why my name is Jax. I couldn't remember it when I came here and everyone else doesn't even remember their friggin' name either. I mean, how cruel can life be?"
"Well, isn't it as equally cruel knowing that you're entire life was fake and made for someone else's entertainment without having any real memories of the past?" You didn't want to argue or fight back with him, but you had to funnel your anger out too while also proving his point right.
"I guess you're right"

A Christmas Visitor - Modern!Jace Velaryon x Reader
Summary: Jace takes it upon himself to cheer you up for your first Christmas spent alone.
Pairing: Modern! Jace Velaryon x AFAB! Reader
Warnings: fluffy boyfriend Jace, profanity, blowjob, face fucking, degradation, mentions of masturbation (both f and m) (let me know if i missed anything out!)
Word Count: 1.92k words
A/N: hoe hoe hoe! a very merry late Christmas and Happy New Year in advance from me to you :) this one is for those Jace girlies out there ;) I hope you enjoy!
lovely dividers credited to @firefly-graphics !
It was set to be a lonely Christmas for you.
But honestly? You had no one to blame but yourself. You were the one who had decided to migrate to another continent entirely for university, whilst most of your friends had stayed in King’s Landing, or other parts of Westeros, including your boyfriend, Jace Velaryon.
But Braavos University was undoubtedly the best university in the known world to pursue a degree in economics, and when you had gotten the acceptance email, Jace had urged you to go, telling you that you would be an idiot if you passed up on the chance.
Braavos was a wonderful place: a melting pot of different cultures, interesting architectural structures, along with an intriguing history. You loved studying and living here, but at times, especially now, during the festive season, you especially missed home. You missed seeing Jace’s wonderful, handsome, smiling face, missed his kisses, his hugs, his warmth, his everything.
In a video call with your boyfriend a few days ago, you had expressed how much you’d missed him, and he had given you a sad smile in return.
“I miss you too, honey,” Jace said earnestly, covering his headphones’ speakers again when a loud noise erupted from behind him. You winced at the feedback from the mic. “Cregan, hey bud, mind keeping it down a little?” Jace called out. “I’m video calling my girlfriend here.”
“Sorry dude!” A manly voice that was most definitely not Cregan called back, and you had to stifle a laugh at Jace’s knowing, disgusted look. “Ugh, these animals, I swear,” Jace joked, turning his attention back to you. His expression softened. “Hey honey, I know it’s hard on you. I wish there was something I can do to make you feel better.”
You smiled, trying to cheer up a bit for his sake. “It’s alright, really. I’m doing fine here, I’m just being a bit mopey because I miss you and stuff.”
“Aww,” Jace blew you a kiss through the computer screen. “I miss you too, honey. Uni life just isn’t the same without you. But you are still coming back for summer break, right?”
You nodded, blowing back a kiss to him. “Yeah, of course I am. I can’t wait-“ A crash and a gruff laugh sounded from behind Jace, and Jace’s eyes widened as he turned back to try and catch a glimpse of what was going on. “Jace, buddy, I might need some help here!” A voice that was definitely Cregan groaned out.
“I’m sorry babe, I gotta go,” Jace said apologetically. “Trust those guys to get wild when I’m trying to call my girlfriend.”
“No, it’s fine,” you tried to stifle a giggle. “You’re like their mom, you know.” “Am not,” Jace pouted, before blowing you a kiss. “I’ll video call you on Christmas, alright? I love you, baby.”
“Love you too, Jacey.” You blew him a kiss back before your computer screen went dark, and you sighed, slumping back in your seat. Video calling him had somehow made you miss him even more.
But alas, such was life. When the morning sunlight streamed through your dorm windows on Christmas Day, you had already carefully planned out your day.
“Okay, so,” you tapped your pencil on your paper, filled with a list of the things you wanted to do. First, I go across the campus to get those delicious pretzels from Lancelot’s Bakery, then I head to the grocery shop to get myself some chicken to cook chicken Alfredo pasta for lunch. Then-“
A knock at your dorm room caused you to look up from your list, puzzled. Your dorm mates had all left for their own homes for the holidays, so who could that be? You set down your pencil, moving to open the door. “Yes-?” Your jaw dropped when you saw who it was standing outside the door.
“Jace!” You let out a cry of delight at your boyfriend’s warm, smiling face. The smile that you had missed so much.
“Hey, baby-“ Jace barely had time to finish his sentence before you launched yourself at him, jumping into his arms and kissing him hungrily. Jace nearly staggered under your weight, hands going to stabilise you as you wrapped your legs around his waist. He savoured the taste of your lips, feeling you melt against him and nearly tearing up when you realised that he was real.
Oh, how he missed you. How he missed this.
Jace quickly brought you into your dorm room, kicking the door shut behind him as he didn’t break the kiss. He set you down on the edge of the desk that you were writing on, tongue tangling eagerly with yours. “Mmm, I missed you so much,” he mumbled against your lips, fumbling for the zipper of the shorts that you were wearing. “I missed your lips, your scent, your pussy…”
You let out a laugh, breaking the kiss to rest your forehead against his. “Someone’s eager, huh?”
“Don’t act like you aren’t,” Jace chided, chuckling as he pulled your shorts off. “Nearly six months without you has been absolute torture. I had to stroke my own dick almost every night for the first few months you know.” A pleasant shiver shot through you at the imagery: Jace stroking himself to the thought of you every day, groaning as he spilled himself in his hand.
“Sounds like I should make it up to you then,” you said slyly, pushing yourself off the desk and getting on your knees. Jace’s breath hitched as he took in the sight of you, radiant, rosy, glowing, down on your knees in front of him. Where you belong.
You made fast work of his jeans, unbuckling his belt and tugging his jeans and boxers down in one go. Your mouth nearly watered at the sight of his length, long and leaking with precum. You ran your fingers along the vein in his cock, teasing him, and Jace groaned, pulling your hair into a makeshift ponytail. “Baby…don’t be a tease,” Jace’s voice was low, pleading. You simply laughed, looking cheeky as you debated on whether you should give him what he wanted.
Jace nearly saw stars when your hot mouth got to work on his dick, licking the underside of it, letting the precum collect on your tongue. His grip in your hair tightened. “Love…”
Slowly, you began to take his cock into your mouth. The loud, scandalous, squelching noise of you taking his dick inch by inch reverberated throughout your empty dorm room, making Jace grow even harder, if that was even possible. He had dreamt of this moment so many times for the last few months…
He made a low, strangled noise in his throat as you hollowed out your cheeks to accommodate even more of him, trying not to gag in the meantime. His fingers tangled even deeply into your hair, “That’s it, that’s fucking it. Take all of me in,” Jace encouraged you. “You can do it. You’re a good girl for me, aren’t you?”
Your answering nod caused your head to bob on his dick a little, and Jace moaned at the sight. He could just die happy now.
“Can I fuck your face, sweetheart?” Jace asked tenderly, but you knew that his tone of voice, while friendly, left no room for negotiation. So you only looked up at him with those adorable doe eyes, and nodded slightly. Jace smirked, pulling out a bit before thrusting himself back into your throat.
He continued to fuck your face, going slow and gentle at first, then his thrusts grew more and more erratic as he felt your hot little mouth envelop his dick just so perfectly. The sound of your fingers playing with your pussy as he face-fucked you however, drew him back to attention again.
“Hey,” he slapped your cheek lightly, getting your attention as you looked up at him with wide eyes, having been caught. “You’re not allowed to touch that pussy as I face fuck you.” Your expression of dismay almost made him feel bad.
Almost.
“No touching yourself, sweetheart. Or else I won’t let you cum later, you understand?” Your eyes teared up a little, and Jace watched you with a smirk as your expression grew desperate, but you could simply nod obediently, knowing that Jace would make good on that promise.
“Good girl,” he soothed you, before thrusting into your mouth even harder, faster.
Your moans were muffled by his cock, but Jace let his unfiltered noises echo throughout the room, his curses and groans and praises only making you wetter. “Yeah, that’s it, baby…taking this dick like a pro, huh? What a dirty little slut you are.”
You could barely speak with his dick in your mouth, and Jace could feel himself getting closer as he watched your tits bounce in that skimpy top you had on. He couldn’t wait to have his hands and mouth all over them, kissing and biting and sucking on your hardened buds. The thought alone was enough to send him over the edge, and when you began playing with his balls, he completely lost it.
Letting out a rough moan, he spilled himself in you, his hot load shooting down your throat. The vibrations of your muffled moans around his cock made it feel even better.
He pulled out, watching your dazed, blissed out face. Gently tilting your chin up to face him, he ordered you, “Swallow all that for me, sweetheart.”
Obligingly, you did so, and Jace let out a sigh of pleasure. “Good girl. Come here.” He helped you up from your knees, gently hoisting you up onto the desk again while rubbing your red knees with his thumbs like a perfect gentleman. Then, his hands found his way to your cheek again, and his lips to yours. He could taste himself on your tongue, and he groaned into your mouth, hand going to palm at your tits through the fabric of your top.
“Best Christmas present I could ask for,” he murmured, sweetly pecking you on the lips. “Which reminds me,” you brought up, voice a bit hoarse after that intense face-fucking. “How’d you get here?”
“I flew out, duh.” You smacked Jace’s shoulder at that non-serious response. “Ow. I flew out all the way for you, and you abuse me like this?” Jace rubbed his hot shoulder, looking like a kicked puppy. “Hurts me right in my feelings, baby.”
“I’m serious,” you pressed, and Jace laughed, kissing your pouting lips. “I don’t know, you just looked so sad over the video call…I just had to come and see you.”
“And your family was cool with it?” Jace laughed again, rubbing your shoulder reassuringly. “Mom’s always chill about it, don’t worry. And you know my little brothers; they always act like they’re happy to be rid of me.”
“But for now,” Jace’s lips met yours again, searing, wanting. “Can we stop talking about how I got here and focus on worshipping you instead?” You giggled, tightening your arms around his neck. “Well, in that case-“
A clatter outside your door made you and Jace freeze in your tracks, wide eyes going to the door. “What was that-“
“My suitcase!” Jace exclaimed, a panicked look on his face as someone outside bellowed. “Who left their fucking suitcase in the middle of the hall?”
You couldn’t hold back your laughter at the sight of abject horror on Jace’s face as he rushed to the door to apologise to whatever poor soul had tripped over his suitcase.
Best Christmas you could ever ask for.

Old Habits Die Hard! [1]
Synopsis; In which Scaramouche takes what he’s gotten back for granted.
Warnings; None for now.
Word Count; 654
CRASH!
That’s the very last thing you probably remember hearing before you blacked out- Nothing else… Maybe you felt yourself stop in your tracks, maybe your felt a throbbing pain before blacking out- Perhaps you felt nothing at all. I wouldn’t know.
You wake up on a hospital bed, the bright artificial lights of the room seemingly blinding you- I sit by your side, gazing at your beautiful face. Oh how I miss looking at you… Can’t you see how beautiful you are to me? The way your gaze shifts at every moment, all those little expressions you make; It’s so adorable, I can’t help but wish to hug you oh so tightly. But I’d never admit it to you in your face- No, of course not!
You attempt to adjust your pretty eyes to the blaring iridescent lights, wincing in what seems to be pain, most likely from what had happened. Your blank gaze settles upon me, the guy sitting in a chair right beside you, and a nurse who bares witness to this life-changing moment.
I look at you with relief- Relieved that you’re awake, relieved that you’re alive. What a joyous moment this is; However, my expression remains calm as I request for the nurse to call over for a doctor- Talking about how you’re finally awake.
Unfortunately for me, that moment is short lived as I look down upon you, my shadow casted over your beautifully limp form.
“Who are you?”
Those words break me, how could you not remember who I am? You’re beloved Scaramouche? Is this a joke? Some kind of sick prank to pull? But that confused look on your face says otherwise… How could you not remember the man you’ve claimed to have an pure, unadulterated love for; The man you’ve made promises to share the rest of your life with-
How could you not remember me?
But alas, that’s okay! I’ll help you out! I am your only lover after all!
“I’m your lover, [Name].” I say, giving you a small smirk as I gently stroke your head. Tears prickle in my eyes, seemingly about to burst out. You look at me with furrowed eyebrows, analyzing and scanning me like some sort of machine.
“You’ve been gone for over a month, pet.” I begin to explain, “You’ve had quite the accident!” I chuckle sarcastically, which makes the whole thing seem as not as big of a deal it truly is.
You look at me in confusion, before asking, “Wha- Accident? I was in an accident-?” I watch you piece things together, and then look down at yourself, your right arm put into a cast. You attempt to move your body slightly, only to stop and wince in pain.
I nod in confirmation, “Mhm, a pretty shitty one if I do say so myself.” I cross my arms, staring at you with intent.
Just before you can ask about the accident a doctor comes in, checking in on you. I sigh in relief for a moment, which you didn’t seem to notice.
Then doctor then tells us that you have amnesia. You’re able to remember parts of your identity (for example, your name and age) and compute other basic functions, but you can’t seem to remember other people. Which is the case for me and Archon’s know how many others.
You were asked to try and dig deeper into your memory- Friends, family, animals, places- Anything really. But you come up empty handed explaining to the doctor that you can’t remember anything.
You’re out of it, really. It’s been a month or two since you’ve last stood up, so movement is hard. You tell me your body feels stiff, to which the doctor then replies that you’ll need to do a bit of physical therapy before being discharged from the hospital.
I suppose I’ll just have to visit you to and from for the time being then.
Notes: Reader becomes a bit more timid and shyer after amnesia, before that they were still a bit shy but less timid, more willing to stand up for themself. Reader is gender neutral.
Also, slightly based off Lolita (I know, crazy right?) by Vladimir Nabokov, and Restart by Gordon Kormen.
Originally pitched this idea to @r0ttenhearts (if you don’t mind me tagging you!)

What to Expect | Chapter 10
previous part | masterlist | next part
synopsis: Jake thinks about his future in the Navy as your due date draws closer. What was supposed to be a joyous last day of school, ends up with a call you never wanted to get.
word count: 2.8k
warnings: pregnancy, cursing, topgun shit, missions, end of the school year sadness, Jake's PTSD,
Jake had missed being in the middle of the ocean and being on the carrier. He sat on one of the decks, looking out at the waves crashing against the carrier, and feeling the salty breeze against his skin. He wondered if his little girl would like the ocean and the beach as much as he did. Jake smiled to himself as he looked down at his boots. He never realized how much he could miss home. Of course he always missed you while he was gone on deployments or detachments, but he filled the time with flying and hanging with his friends. But now, the only thing he wanted to do was curl up with you and nuzzle his face into your bump.
“There you are,” Payback said, snapping Jake out of his thoughts, “Been searching the whole damn place for you. Mav wants to go over flight stuff.”
“Yeah, sorry, lost track of time,” Jake said, pushing himself up from the ground. Payback held his hand out and helped pull him up, “Thanks, man.”
“No problem. How’s the lady?”
“Good, tired of being pregnant.”
Payback chuckled, “Man, I remember those days. When Nina was pregnant with Jay, I thought she was going to kill me by the eighth month.”
“How do you do it?” Jake asked, “Being away from them. I mean, my daughter isn’t even born yet and I’m half tempted to take a jet and fly home. Does it get easier?”
“No,” Payback said honestly, “It doesn’t. And when you see your little girl for the first time, you’ll be all too prepared to retire as soon as possible. But, the longing makes you love coming home even more.”
“Aren’t you sad about what you miss?”
“Of course, that’s part of being a parent. But it makes the moments when you are there even more special.”
“Thank you,” Jake said and Payback clapped him on the back.
“No problem. I gotta welcome you to the Dagger Squad Dad’s club. I’ve been the only one for too long,” Payback joked and Jake chuckled.
“I’m guessing my welcome gift is a pair of new balances and a barbecue set.”
“Oh for sure.”
Maverick was less than impressed when Jake and Rueben walked into the briefing room late. He got right to work on explaining what their next task at hand was. The whole point of the detachment was for security and training opportunities. The last time they really had a chance to be on a carrier like this was during the Uranium Mission. This time, there was no immediate threat or enemy that they had to be weary of. It made Jake somewhat less worried and nervous about being away from you.
“Hangman, Rooster, Fanboy and Payback,” Maverick called out the pilots’ callsigns, “I want you all on deck ready to go for flight plan B. Two singles and a team flier.”
Jake looked over at Rooster who clenched his jaw. The two of them had hardly spoken unless it had something to do with the mission. Everyone could feel the tension between them, it was a bit awkward and heated. Jake had tried to make amends with Rooster for the sake of the mission, and for your sake too, but Rooster had no intention of making nice with Jake.
The pilots agreed and were dismissed from the briefing room. Jake went right to the computer lab, going to check his email for what was probably the tenth time today. It was the only form of communication he had with you back home. You had promised to send him pictures and updates as much as you could. Though, things weren’t really changing as you entered the 32nd week of your pregnancy. Jake’s green eyes watched the loading bar cautiously waiting for the screen to pop up. A smile came across his face as he saw a brand new email notification from you. Attached as a picture of the newest ultrasound and your growing belly.
— — —
“Are your boobs leaking?” Your sister Stephanie asked. You looked down at your light blue shirt and groaned, “Is that normal?”
“Apparently,” You grabbed a paper towel and dabbed at your breast. It had only been a week since the Daggers left for detachment. Your sisters Stephanie and Gia decided to come back and visit while your dad was away on this detachment. Even though your mother had been well versed in the life of being married to a pilot, it was still hard to be alone. Gia hadn’t seen you since you moved back to San Diego, and you had been dreading the moment.
Gia wasn’t always the nicest sister, being the middle sister out of the three girls (her and Dylan were the official middle children). Gia always strived to be the star of the family, wanting to be the one that carried on the Kazansky namesake in the army. She wanted people to think of her when they thought of ‘Kazansky’ not Stephanie or Dylan or even you (before you said you weren’t going to join). To her, you were the angel of the family, the sibling who could never do wrong. You got what you wanted, you had Ice’s attention constantly, you were the true star of the family. And Gia hated it. She always had a way of making you feel less than everyone else. Even now, as fully grown adults.
“Have you talked to Jake?” Stephanie asked.
“No, I haven’t,” You sighed, pulling your jacket over your body the best you could. You thought weeks ago you couldn’t get any bigger, but you were quickly proven wrong.
“He’s probably busy,” Stephanie shrugged, giving you a warm smile.
“Or banging a shipman,” Gia said as she walked into the kitchen. You sucked in a breath and Stephanie glared at her, “Is that why you two broke up?”
“Gia, really?” Stephanie scolded, “Enough of that shit.”
“What? Just pointing out the fact that he’s a cheater and you’re having a child out of wedlock,” Gia grabbed a grape off the kitchen counter, “How is the rugrat?”
“Busy,” You mumbled as Baby girl moved around inside you, “Still breech, but they said that’s normal.”
“Hope you don’t have to have a c-section. The scar will ruin your perfect skin complexion.”
“Can you say anything nice today? Or do you have to be such a bitch all the time, Gia?” Stephanie crossed her arms over her chest and glared at her sibling, “Seriously? What’s the deal?”
“Nothing,” Gia shrugged, “Just nice to see the perfect princess’s plans finally getting put off track.” Gia winked at you before walking out of the kitchen like nothing had happened.
You tried hard not to cry, but you couldn’t help letting a few tears slip down your cheeks. Everyone knew damn well that a baby before marriage was not in your plans. You had always talked about your fairytale wedding since you were a child. A dress like Princess Di’s, a big cathedral decorated with beautiful flowers, a beautiful ring placed on your finger. After marriage you wanted to spend at least two years doing just married couple things like traveling the world and settling in a new house, getting a couple of animals before kids.
You almost had that with Jake. You had the house, the animals, the plans in the works of getting married, but it all halted when Jake came home from the Uranium Mission and told you the lie of his infidelity. You had suddenly found yourself having to rebuild a dream that had been destroyed. You wondered if that was even going to be possible, you didn’t think that you could ever find a man like Jake. And then, you got a second chance at the dream life you wanted to have, just in a different order.
“Hey, don’t listen to her,” Stephanie said, frowning at the tears on your cheeks, “She’s bitter cause Steven is being sneaky again, even though she kind of deserves it.”
“She doesn’t deserve that shit,” You sighed, “I know how it feels and it’s horrible. Even though she’s a bitch, she doesn’t deserve to be cheated on.”
“And this is why you’re everyone's favorite,” Stephanie said and booped your nose. You rolled your eyes and stood up from your chair.
“Oh, um. . . the teachers at school want to throw me a small little baby shower. It’s just like cake and ice cream, kinda more of an end of the school year thing,” You said, “Jake won’t be there so-”
“Of course I will be there!” Stephanie yelled and threw her arms around you in a hug. Stephanie was always the hugger of the family, something she clearly got from your mother. You tried to not tell her about certain events or awards you got because she would always pull you in for a bone crushing hug. You were suddenly very thankful that your belly was in the way of her crushing you.
“Oh my god, I should bake cookies!”
“Yeah, you do that,” You said and walked out of the kitchen before you could get sucked into baking way too many chocolate chip cookies.
— — —
The end of the school year always made you a bit sad. Spending nine months getting to know students, watching them grow and learn over the year. You loved summer and the time off, but you missed seeing the smiling faces of your students every day. Usually, what kept you going through the summer and the end of the school year was the fact that you would still see your old students when August would roll back around. Except, this year was different. You wouldn’t be coming back to school in August. You weren’t quite sure if you were going to come back at all.
The idea to be a stay-at-home used to never be something that you liked. You didn’t understand how your mom could stand being home all day with four kids. You had even asked her if she would do something differently if she had the chance, and she told you that she was happy with the way her life was. Jake had never pushed the idea of that on you, either. He viewed raising children as an equal thing between mother and father. In fact, he even thought about staying home and raising kids just so you could still go teach and do what you loved. But you both knew, with his job, it would be nearly impossible.
So you contemplated just staying home for the whole year. Knowing that Jake could possibly be deployed at a drop of a hat, you wanted to be prepared for that to happen. You knew that it would be nearly impossible for you to come back to work after spending five months home with your little one. Jake knew that he was probably going to cry on his first day going back to work after his paternity leave was up.
“Miss K?” You looked up from your desk to see Owen standing in front of it, “We have a card for you.”
“You do?” You asked. You had put on a movie for the kids to watch in the last part of the day before early dismissal. What you didn’t realize while you were trying not to cry about having to take down the decorations in your room was that your kids had made a card and were passing it around the room for each of them to sign. Owen nodded and you paused the movie, standing up and walking to the front of your classroom.
“Miss Ortega helped us write it,” Joy, one of your second graders said. You made a mental note to give Alyssa a hug later.
“You told us we might not see you next year, and it made some of us sad,” Owen said, “And then we saw you get sad about it so we decided to make you a going away card for you and the baby.”
You took the card from his outstretched hands, “To our favorite second grade teacher,” You blinked back tears as you opened the card, “This year you have taught us a lot; how to read chapter books, the regions of the United States, standard multiplication, and how to build the perfect paper airplane,” You chuckled and wiped a tear away, “We will miss you next year, and wish we could have you in third grade. We wish you and Baby K the best. Love, your second graders. And every single one of you signed it.”
You took a deep breath and held the card to your chest, “You guys are awesome. I hope that one day this little one will be as awesome as you.”
“Can we give you a hug!?” Amelia shouted.
“Of course. Very gently, group hug,” You said and 30 some second graders came speed walking up to hug you. You laughed and hugged them all tightly. It really did break your heart to have to say goodbye to this class, probably more than years passed.
When the school bell rang, you stood by your door, giving each kiddo a hug and a small goody bag on their way out the door for the summer.
“Miss K,” Owen said. He was the last one in the line, “Can you give something to Mister Jake for me?”
“For sure,” You said and Owen handed you a piece of yellow paper that had been cut like the wings Jake had given him earlier in the year. You smiled, and Owen wrapped his arms tightly around your waist.
“I’m going to miss you,” Owen said.
“I am going to miss you too,” You said, and then kneeled down to Owen’s height, “Don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t special, okay? You are a very special kid, Owen.”
“Thank you, Miss K,” Owen said and you nodded, “Bye Miss K and Baby K.”
“Goodbye Owen, have a happy summer.”
You stood up as Owen ran down the hallway towards the front doors of the school. You sighed, and turned around, looking at your now empty classroom. All the kids had put their chairs on their desks and taken their name tags off. You had given them anything in the class that had their name on it, which left it looking pretty bare. Your lip quivered and you bit back a sob. Shaking your head, you shut the door, you weren’t able to look at the room anymore without crying. Jake had already agreed to help you clean everything out when he got back.
“Hey,” Alyssa said, stepping out of her room down the hall, “You okay?”
“No,” You sniffled, “I’m seven months pregnant, my baby daddy is in the middle of the pacific ocean, and your card made me fucking sob.”
Alyssa giggled and put her arm around your shoulders, “I’m going to miss coming to bother you during lunch.”
“Oh don’t you start,” You pushed her arm off of your playfully, “Let’s go. I want cookies. Stephanie has been perfecting her recipe since last week.”
The staff break room was decorated with balloons and streamers, not only for you but to celebrate the end of the year. Your colleagues were all sad to see you go. Even though you had only been there a year, you had quickly become one of everyone's favorite teachers. Your kindness was infectious, and even teachers from other grades were coming by your room for a quick chat. You were thankful for having such a good team by your side.
A couple of the other teacher moms gave you some gifts. You got a couple of books, onesies and diapers. It made you sort of realize that you hadn’t started really buying anything for the baby, and time was running out. Alyssa could see the look of panic on your face, and made sure to add things to the registry she and Phoenix had started for you. Stephanie was getting along greatly with some of the teachers, which surprised no one. She was always the social butterfly, and get along with anyone and everyone.
“Are you ready for the baby to be here?” One of the fourth grade teachers, Mrs. Donohughe asked.
“Can you ever be ready for a baby?” You asked and she chuckled, “I feel somewhat ready. I’ve had things like the crib and dresser and rocker delivered. But besides that. . . I think this is my first package of diapers I’ve gotten.”
“You have time to get all that. Might not seem like it, but you will,” She assured you.
You sucked in a breath as your phone went off. You smiled seeing Jake’s name and contact photo flash across your phone. You excused yourself from the group, and waddled out into the hallway. You swiped to answer it, and let out a sigh.
“Hey, I’ve been waiting to-”
“Sweetheart,” Your eyebrows furrowed at the sound of your dad’s voice. You pulled your phone away and double checked that it was in fact Jake’s phone number.
“Dad? What-Why do you have Jake’s phone?”
“Sweetheart,” Ice sighed, “There’s been an accident.”

Spencer didn’t think he would have to call in that favour you’d offered him. He was pretty sure that when you sent a little text that said, “I owe you one,” you were joking. He waved it off like you were joking. When he told you not to mention the favour he had done, he’d meant it. The two of you had spent the rest of the night joking because that was all it was supposed to be.
The favour, the owing, it was all supposed to be a joke.
Then Gideon died.
Nothing really seemed funny after that.
Spencer had to leave for a bit. He needed to go, and join his team, and solve this murder. He also had classes to teach. He hoped you would help him out with that, though he hated having to ask. You didn’t deserve this burden. You hadn’t deserved it before, either, but you kind of took it on without asking.
Now, Spencer had to ask.
He didn’t want to do it. Like, he really didn’t want to do it. He ended up staring at your contact in his phone for a solid forty-five minutes waffling over what the fuck he could say in this situation.
“My old friend and mentor was murdered last night. I need to go find the man that did it. Cover my cases for me while I’m gone, will you?” Felt rude. And harsh. And like a crazy fucking load of information that you would definitely have questions about- and while he would normally love to answer your questions, Spencer- understandably- did not feel like answering questions about this specific topic.
A simple, “We need to talk,” was way too goddamn ominous.
“I need a favour,” could be taken all kinds of wrong ways.
Something like, “Heyyyyy, so, my old mentor died and I need to go find the man that did it. Would you mind covering my classes for me until I come back, even if that takes actual months? K thank u byeeeee,” just felt wrong.
“A close friend of mine just passed, and I need some time. Can you cover my classes for me while I’m gone?” Was appropriate, but it left out so much- and for some reason, Spencer didn’t like the thought of lying to you.
So, he decided to tell you in person.
And he had regrets about that decision almost immediately.
He ended up standing by the office door like a fucking creeper for a solid five minutes. He didn’t move, he didn’t open the door, he didn’t knock, he didn’t say anything, he just sort of stood there thinking about what the fuck he was going to say to you.
And then the door creaked open for him.
You were sitting at the desk that you shared with him, buried so deeply in your work that you didn’t even hear the door open. You didn’t look up. You didn’t see Spencer. You just typed away at the computer in front of you, marking papers and adding up grades.
You seemed oddly peaceful. At ease. Relaxed- at least as relaxed as you could be while grading. Spencer briefly contemplated the idea of leaving you a note.
Before he could take off to find a pen and follow in his mentor’s footsteps, you finally saw him. Your eyes lit up, they really did, but Spencer told himself he was seeing things.
“Good morning, Dr. Pretty Boy!” you stretched yourself out slightly, giving Spencer the impression that you’d been working for a while, “Ready for more bullshit?”
For a moment, despite everything, Spencer managed to find respite from his grief. A smile crossed his features. He laughed at your joke- and immediately, he felt guilty for it. His eyes went from bright to broken in a split instant. Tears welled up in their corners. What fucking friend was Spencer? Gideon hadn’t been dead for two days, and here he was, laughing with his cute coworker over some cute fucking quip.
The grief crashed over his body in waves. Reid tried to hide it. He looked away from you, covering his mouth with his hand and trying not to actually sob in the middle of your shared office.
You saw right through him.
“Oh, pretty boy,” your voice was a whisper, and as you darted into Spencer’s field of view, he could see the concern etched into your face. Somehow, it made him feel worse.
“Hey, hey,” you tried to hide your own panic with soothing words, briefly wondering what the fuck you could’ve done to make him cry. Your mind came up blank. And really, if Spencer cried easily- if he cried the way you did- you were sure you would’ve broken him by now, but you hadn’t.
Honestly? That was probably the worst option. That meant something was wrong- and you probably wouldn’t fix that something with an apology and a cup of coffee.
Still. You had to do your best.
“Reid? Spencer, honey, talk to me,” you reached out, lightly placing your fingers on his elbow- enough touch to comfort, but hopefully not enough to make him uncomfortable.
He didn’t say anything, but for a moment, he looked at you. His eyes were full of unshed tears. You could feel your heart drop through you before it shattered somewhere deep inside. Without another thought, your grip on Spencer’s arm changed from a light graze to an undeniable hold.
When you spoke, you sounded panicked. You said his name and Spencer could practically feel it- like ice down his spine, like the feeling of falling just as your body goes to sleep. Ironically, it woke him up.
“Gideon’s dead.”
You tried to find a response to that, but the words escaped you. Mostly because you didn’t know who that was. Spencer saw the confusion on your face, and with a deep breath, he offered you the kindness of elaboration.
“He was- he got me into the FBI. He was important and now he’s dead.”
“Shit,” you brought your other hand up to hold his arm, “Spencer, I’m so sorry.”
“I have to go. I have to find the person that did this.”
You tried to hide your shock at the revelation that Spencer’s friend hadn’t just died- Gideon had been murdered. And Spencer wanted to solve the case.
What choice did you have but to support him? In his place, you would want to do the same thing- you just wouldn’t have the qualifications for it. Spencer, however, was part of the FBI. He could help solve this case, legally and responsibly. You had to let him go.
“Then find them. Don’t worry about your classes, I’ll cover them-”
“You-” he cut himself off with a broken laugh, “You didn’t even let me ask.”
“You don’t have to. I know you would do the same for me- even if you wouldn’t, I like talking shit about the FBI to your students. It’s fun for me, that's how I have fun. Now go,” you let one of your hands run up his arm, “Get out of here, solve some crimes, and legally get whoever did this behind fucking bars.”
Spencer put one of his hands over yours. You took the initiative and laced your fingers together. The two of you stared for a moment, focusing on nothing but your joined hands.
“I’m sorry,” he broke the silence- not by much. His voice wasn’t anything more than a whisper.
“Sorry? For what?”
“For coming in here and crying all over you.”
“Hey, don’t apologize for that. I cry all the time, remember? I cry constantly. I can start crying now, if you want me to-”
“That won’t be necessary,” he grinned, tracing tiny shapes into your skin with the tips of his fingers, “Thank you, though? Is that the appropriate thing to say? Thank you?”
“Thank you works for me.”
“Then, thank you.”
Silence flowed over you again, curling around your bodies like some sort of mist. For a moment, the universe stilled, preserving the two of you in a tiny soundless bubble of space and time.
“Go kick some criminal ass, pretty boy. Responsibly. And then come back here, okay?”
“I will. I promise.”
“Good. Because otherwise, I will turn your students into my little minions, and you’ll never get them back.”
“I wouldn’t expect anything less.”
With a final grin, you pulled back. Spencer did the same. You wound your arms around yourself and squeezed. The air in the office dropped a few degrees. Spencer’s hands twitched, tapping a nervous pattern into his thigh.
“I’ll see you later, (L/N).”
He stepped back, moving slowly. When he reached the doorway, he turned and headed down the hall at regular Spencer-speed. You just stood in the office like an idiot. For the second time that week, Reid had stunned you to silence.
The first time, when he brought your student’s paper to the community center, you were stunned by the kindness he displayed. The Spencer you knew was usually smarmy petty little shit. He had his moments (such as getting stabbed to protect you and sharing his office with you when yours got all haunted) but for the most part, he was a bit of a prick!
In that moment, though, Reid did something kind and considerate. He took care of someone who needed it. He reached out to a former inmate with compassion and empathy, and even though Reid had worked for the FBI, you wanted to bring him to the community center with you every goddamn Monday for the rest of time. That little action had exposed his heart to you- and yeah, most people would argue that the whole “taking a knife” thing was a better demonstration of character, but for whatever reason, this was what stunned you.
The second time he’d stunned you, he’d done it by leaving, and lord, this time was worse. This time the shock didn’t feel like butterflies swarming through your organs. It felt like fear. Like an unknown future was running at you with malevolent intent.
At one point, you had wanted this. You wanted Spencer to leave, but now? The fucker had carved out a space for himself right in the middle of your life. He’d built a little niche between your fourth and fifth ribs and moved right into you. You had functioned without him when he was in the hospital, but you had always figured he would come back. This was an indefinite leave of absence. This was an indefinite leave of absence after you had warmed to Spencer, after he had shown you (in multiple ways) that he could be kind.
You finally came back to your body, still feeling a slight numbness in your hands. You moved to the doorway just in time to watch Reid turn around the corner and vanish from sight.
“I’ll see you,” you said- though you weren’t loud enough for him to hear by any means, “Reid.”
Behind you, a couple books fell from their shelves. You didn’t even flinch.

Extra+rambling under cut
Me when clear all Cathy (feat: my pm oc/insert)
No but I started to cry when it got to this stage of the node and man I clicked on the thing like 30 times before clicking on the clear all Cathy. MAN I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A COOL JOKE UGHHHH. Also Cathcliff is one of my favourite PM ships now they’re just cute.
Random note but I couldn’t finish this when the 3rd part of the canto came out because my iPad kept crashing on the Vergilius node and I had to wait like 1-2 days before I was reunited with my computer to finish this so I missed out on the cleared before nerfs : ( (The moment I got home after a 8 hour flight and 2hr ride home I played through the last bit because I didn’t wanna be spoiled lol, and a lady at the airport got me sick too so I was jet lagged, tired as hell and sick but first priority was limbus lmao)
But like, seriously this canto made me spiral on this one thought. So in the canto it is explained that souls can’t like move on to actual death death because the Wuthering Heights manor is built on a stream. This stream that’s the same thing that the original seed of light project utilised to make cognito and in lobotomy corporation it’s derivatives such as enkephalin and the light/ golden boughs.
And we learn in Lob corp that cognito is pulled up through a well, likely connected to another stream of sorts. (Or is it just the bucket/ Carmen’s nerve system?) (because if it’s just that everything else here’s just invalid lmao)
So like if every branch had a well, which they would because they will have the extraction team to get more abnormalities that means there was a ‘stream’ of sorts underneath every Lob corp branch.
That means in every facility there’s just ghosts haunting the place. Everywhere. And people who died in those places even after Lob corp fell, (Aya, Yuri, the bug veterans) is also just ghosts there now???
Imagine Yuri just dying in that branch and is greeted by the ghosts of all her former co-workers and they’re just like oh cool you managed to get out but why tf did you come back or something.
But this is more interesting for the main facility, the main branch because of Enoch/ Tiphereth B and the light that happened. So Carmen and Ayin got sucked up into the light right? So what about all the other dead souls unable to go on because of the stream? Did they get sucked into the light as well? So is there just a hive mind of people up there we don’t know about? Especially for Enoch since he was a pretty big player in the script and everything. (Here’s where I shall just ramble about the little boy because I quite like the little man) If he got swooped up into the light as well what would his interaction with Carmen be like. I would think he’d just forgive her because he knew what he was getting into. But what about Ayin? Would he understand that this was for a better purpose or be angry at what he made the others (especially Lisa/ Tipherepth A) go through? And additionally would he be angry at Lisa? I pose this question because he wanted to have a purpose, a bigger reason to be living and would he view her letting him be killed (again) as something sad because he could never experience the end of the script and the result of his work/ his ‘purpose’ that he lived to create. Or would it be a little more messed up where he finds his purpose in the light, helping distort people/ gain EGO. (Mostly gain EGO as the preferable outcome, Carmen in Leviathan says something to that extent where’s it’s better for people to ignore her and develop EGO) (I think, I haven’t really read it, just watched random analyses using Leviathan for evidence) And if all the dead people in the main facility is in the light imagine what the actual hell they could do. Like that’s so many people in there.
Also if they are all in the light Tiphereph reunion isn’t impossible, but unlikely since Tiph A has gone through her character develop already :T but I want to see that. How Tiph B feels about what Tiph A did both with pushing Carmen further down depression and her decision to put him down for the sake that he didn’t have to suffer. And just how Tiph A would react to seeing/ hearing him in the light which she probably won’t think it’s a good thing he’d getting caught up with Carmen again : P
Also could the records team have something to do with this fact as well? Like does this explain how the dead are able to come back other than the time thing?
#limbus company#tiphereth#lobotomy corporation#lobcorp#library of ruina#lor#Catherine#man how does this all work now#also the mili song was great

Harry shrugged. “Maybe you just need to get even more outside your comfort zone. Maybe we need to try something a bit more… adventurous?” Curiosity successfully piqued, Louis tilted his head and toyed with the fringe dangling from his lace shrug. “Like what?" “We, uhm—maybe we try filming you in more compromising positions,” Harry suggested carefully. He kept his tone low and even as he studied Louis’ expression, hands skating over his curves soothingly. If Louis didn’t know any better he might have thought that Harry was talking about filming him naked. But that couldn’t be right—could it? “Like porn?” Or Louis is a struggling actor who gets nervous when he's being filmed and Harry comes up with a plan to help him relax when the cameras are rolling.

Louis Tomlinson is an underpaid photojournalist in NYC. He leads a pretty average life, getting shots of town heroes, dodging flirtatious remarks from old coworkers and being the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. But what happens when a sex god comes to crash in his apartment?

"You made Harry Styles practically swoon over you, admit you’re beautiful to basically the world, he asked for your number and you said no. Like, you have to be joking.” Bella tsks as she sits up straight, grabbing Louis’ computer off his lap and putting it off to the side. Louis moves to reach for it, sighing in defeat as he leans back against his pillows. “You know how it goes with those sports guys. They’re just after having a good time before they have to go to the next city and play another game and find another person to swoon.” Louis explains. “It just wouldn’t have worked and I’m too busy right now.” Louis shrugs. “Too busy to fuck Harry Styles?” Bella asks with a raised brow. “Yes, even too busy to fuck Harry Styles.” Or Prompt 251: Harry is a hockey player and he's in the middle of a press conference when Louis, a journalist, asks him a question. Harry sees him ans says something like "oh my god, he's so beautiful" to his teammate and only realized his mic was on when the pretty boy blushes and the room breaks in a laugh

This was my prompt: Prompt 3: Neighbors AU, preferably ABO! Harry works evenings/nights (maybe like a surgeon something that requires him to be gone for long hours) and has a cat. The cat has a little kitty door at the back so that it can explore and such. Louis just moved next door and the cat seems to always end up at his door. Eventually, Louis lets the cat in, as he’s new and he’s feeling quite lonely. They become fast friends, so much so that the cat prefers to stay with Louis rather than go home. Harry gets concerned that the cat starts to stay out all day/night so he eventually leaves a note attached to the cat’s collar with its name and phone number. Louis texts him telling him he’s his neighbor and not to worry, the cat just likes to hang with him as it might be lonely. Harry gets pissed that this stranger is stealing his cat so he goes to confront Louis and tell him to stop stealing his cat. Of course, as soon as he sees Louis, he falls in love with him and the rest is history. (If ABO could be cute that both Harry and Louis like to cuddle with the cat because it holds the other’s scent)

“Arishem should have abducted a human instead, to fiddle with their memory. Would have been more effective.” Thena, who had been staring into space for a few minutes, looked up. “Why don’t we just bring a human with us?” Everyone turned to stare at her. “What?” she retorted sternly. “Why not introduce him directly to a human being, so he can see how special the human race is?” Pip, who had dozed off against a wall with his pint still in hand, woke up with a start, while Druig tried to make sense of Thena’s words. “Not a bad idea, but what human being could be worthy enough to represent the rest of humanity?” Angel. Eros thought. “Louis!” Pip shouted. Or Eros/Harry is a dreamboat with singular powers who loves love more than anything and longs to feel it one day, and Louis is the kind human who shows him the way.

“Look, Lou” Harry whispers, “I can’t do it, and as much as I like having dinner with you, and hanging out, I think we should just do it without the tutoring part because I am not smart enough for school.” “That’s bullshit,” Louis answers quickly, “what do you like?” he asks, “I mean, other than football and asking me stuff about my family. There must be something else you’re good at.” “I play football and fuck, Louis. That’s it.” Louis definitely doesn’t flinch at that. He does not. --- Harry is the golden boy of the college football's team, Louis is their professors' golden student and they definitely don't have anything in common. Falling in love would be dumb.

“Do you trust me?” asks Louis in a whisper, mouth pressed on the crown of Harry’s head. His voice has that raw quality to it that Harry has only heard a few times, and he takes a deep breath. “I do,” he responds, and he could add something to keep up the charade, tell Louis that of course he does, he’s here for him, to support him, but he doesn’t really feel like doing anything. He’s going away in a very short while, after all. He can’t find the strength to keep up the farce. “I told you everything would be alright,” says Louis. “I told you we will be alright. Do you trust me on this?” Harry hesitates. He feels Louis’ arms tighten around him, and he brings one of his hands over Louis’. He doesn’t want to lie, he doesn’t. Agent Harry Styles was injured on the job a few months back, and gets roped in one last mission before he can retire prematurely: playing house with Louis, a widower who has amnesia. The assignment seems simple at the beginning, but soon enough Harry's twisted in a web of his own making, and can't get out anymore.

love the drawings you've been making for desmond and alex, what's ghosts in the machine? first i see them crawling out of your screen and now everyone's angels devils or monsters, i don't know if i'm missing something!
ah man, think it's time to try to summarize everything and apologize LMAO;; ty for asking though, i should've made things less confusing! this will be a Pretty lengthy post for irl context/backstory and "actual au" info so be ready if you want to read everything!
(for starters, the title's just a pun on the philosophical phrase "ghost in the machine" interpreted Literally and taking inspiration from clay in ac revelations, since he Was a ghost in a machine and jokingly called "my guardian angel" by des, haha)
the short version: basically, "ghosts in the machine" is what i've called the au(?) where i just doodle silly "artist talking to her art muse(s)" stuff like these kinds of comics instead w me,, the ""art muse"" is whatever i'm hyperfixated on (currently desmond, the assassin brotherhood as a whole, and alex/prototype lmao):
the Full LONG version: when replaying prototype and ac awhile back, i also posted fanart on LOFTER (china’s local version of tumblr) and made a mainlander mutual/friend who drew fanart too, like her oc w the assassins in an animal shapeshifter 刺客信条乙女向 (assassin’s creed otome) au! as i’m vietnamese-american and she’s chinese, we use translators and send pictures/doodles to talk about the games and our days, and when i was replaying prototype, she started ac2 too and sent me this as commentary:
from there, whenever we’d text or send pics/art, it became a running joke of sorts to also include our ""game companions"" like that fanfiction thing of “author’s note where the author and fictional characters comment on the situation and/or talk to each other”, and my doodles also became us or our computers being accompanied by them LMAO;; that’s pretty much the origin and setting of the particular doodles; just the daily shenanigans and art struggles of an artist (me and her) talking to their art muses (characters from special interests) haunting them and their computers
as for the "supernatural" aspects, at some point desmond and alex got drawn an as angel and devil because i’ve had ridiculous “protected by a guardian angel” luck lately like surviving a car crash unharmed, they’re my favorites and associated with me, the motifs match the duo, etc, it's not really that deep and/or for a "Lore Reason";;
likewise, the brotherhood got drawn as ghosts to emphasize the “we/our computers are haunted by them” joke more, along with how my friend and i are both asian and used to like ghosts and ancestral worship casually being a part of our lives already LMAO (ig in the context of the au then, they’re basically desmond’s ancestral spirits disney-mulan-style that freeload off of his vietnamese protectee (me) for both spiritual veneration or "worship" like staying relevant in this modern age via fanart)
for example, i'm also considering drawing like altair, ezio, connor, and edward as the vietnamese four holy beasts just to play around, things like that! there's no special lore reason aside from just personal thoughts and "oh that'd be fun to draw", they just thematically fit well being four prominent “legends” and being desmond's ancestors, etc,, haha
at the end of the day, "ghosts in the machine" are just silly shenanigans of me drawing what's on my mind, from who/what i'm hyperfixated on (aka impromptu art muses for me), any thoughts/frustrations i have w daily life or drawing stuff,, and "hm this sounds cool, i could draw this design or Cool Thing" stuff. it's not really an au persay (plus i still really cringe and feel self-consciously wary about the embarrassing self-insert aspect of all this, help lmao), it’s just,, just silly personal scribblings that are kind of sharing an inside joke to everyone now, but i'm happy to know people still humor these silly drawings and are curious if there's more to it, thank you!
#ghosts in the machine au#tldr all of this is silly doodling w a mainlander friend but now all of china... AND GLOBAL...... tumblrs know i'm cringe (pain)#i'm honestly surprised that people both on tumblr/global and LOFTER/china like these a lot and want more but yeah dghfdkj#protocreed#assassin's creed#desmond miles#alex j mercer#don't know what else to tag esp if people want to blacklist this... i don't want to clog 'canon' tags like character tags lmao#ask

Love’s Illusion
Warnings: Angst, implied autistic Gus, past bullying, Bria (let me know if I need to add anything else)
Author’s note: So funny story, I was planning to post this a few days ago but when I went back to edit this my computer completely crashed and it took days for the repair shop to get it back up and running so yeah it’s been a while since I have written a Fanfiction but I hope to upload more of these more often. With all of that said happy reading and happy Gustholomule week.
Matt was getting worried, he hadn’t heard from Gus since yesterday when they accidently ran into Bria at the bonesburrow market place and Bria had a lot to say to Gus and none of it was very nice.
Guess she wasn’t over what happened in the illusionist’s graveyard. Gus was so obviously hurt by what she had said, so much so that Gus choked back whatever words that had died on his tongue and said that he had forgotten he had to help his dad with something.
Gus then summoned Emmeline and flew off in the direction of his house. Matt was furious at Bria, she had no business being here reopening old scars. As angry Matt was he swallowed his rage and just turned his back on her.
On his way home Matt texted Gus, asking if he was ok but never got an answer, so an hour later he texted him again this time telling Gus to not think about what Bria said and that she wasn’t worth losing sleep over. Matt still got no answer.
The next day he still hadn’t gotten a reply back and Matt couldn’t stop himself, he went over to Gus’s house but when he knocked on the door he got no answer.
After waiting another minute he decided to go around the house and look for another way in. Matt moved to the side of the house and cast a spell circle raising a platform to the window that if Matt remembered correctly was Gus’s bedroom window.
Matt peered through the glass to see Gus’s bedroom dimly lit, the only sources of light seemed to be the window and a crystal ball on the floor, and next to the crystal ball was a gloomy looking Gus laying on his back staring up at the ceiling.
Has he been like this since he got home? Matt asked himself.
Matt knocked on the window which seemed to snap Gus back to the real world as he sat up and looked around his room before his eyes landed on the window with his boyfriend on the other side of the glass.
Gus stiffened in his shoulders before he climbed on to his bed to the window and opened it for Matt.
“You could have just used the front door.” Gus smiled but Matt could tell it was forced.
“I tried knocking but you never answered.” Matt answered climbing through the window onto Gus’s bed beside him.
Matt’s boyfriend looked away and scratched the back of his head awkwardly, “Oh sorry about that.” Matt could see Gus’s mind was somewhere else as he wouldn’t look in his boyfriend’s direction and he was laying on the floor when Matt first saw him which he did when he was feeling overwhelmed or stressed out.
“No need to say sorry you dork.” Matt joked trying to lighten the mood, Gus looked back at him and tried to smile though it still looked very forced.
“Are you okay, Gus?”
Gus sighed leaning his back against the wall and drawing his knees up to his chest, another thing Matt knew he did when he was experiencing a negative emotion. Matt paused trying to find the right words to say, then formulating them into a sentence.
“Look, Bria has always been a jerk and she’s not worth getting upset over.” Matt shuffled closer to Gus. Gus looked down at his bedsheets, wrapping his arms around himself.
“That’s not why I am upset.” Gus uttered in a monotone tone that didn’t feel right in Gus’s voice.
“Why?” Matt pressed, he felt like the answer was staring him dead in the face but the construction witch just couldn’t put his finger on it.
“I guess I’m just kinda mad at myself.” Gus rubbed his eyes from under his glasses, probably trying to keep his tears from flowing.
Now it was Matt’s turn to choke on his words, How did Gus come to the conclusion to be mad at himself? Especially when Bria was the one who said all those things to him.
“Why at yourself?” Matt asked, trying to keep the millions of questions in his head.
Gus looked at his Boyfriend with guilt plaguing his midnight sky eyes. “Everyone says I’m really smart but then why do I act so dumb?”
Matt remained silent waiting for Gus to continue while also pre thinking of what to say to comfort Gus when he finished speaking.
“I get tricked by everyone and I always get upset over stupid things.” Gus buried his face in his hands as if he was trying to hide from what he thought was the truth.
“I just let myself get tricked and used all the time, Bria has just been one of many people who tricked me and for some stupid reason I just can’t see it.”
Matt felt his mouth get very dry, he figured that he wasn’t the only one to have tricked Gus but he never knew the details of it all.
“I’m nearly sixteen for titian’s sake, so why do I still act like a child?”
Gus threw his head back against the wall hitting it, the vibrations causing one of Gus’s framed pictures to come loose, fall and hit Gus on the head.
“Ouch!” Gus cried holding his head.
Matt began to reach a hand towards the illusionist only for Gus’s head to shoot up and open his eyes which were glowing blinding bright blue. Matt pried his eyes away from his boyfriend to see the room being consumed in the same blue glow.
“No, no, no, no, no, no, no, not again.” Gus’s words were sharp and his voice sounded scared. Suddenly the room shifted to the illusionist graveyard but everything was tinted blue.
Matt squinted his eyes as a silhouette came into focus and then took the form of Bria who wore a sarcastic smile on her face that just made Matt want to punch her lights out.
“Aw, is the little baby gonna cry?” Bria or illusion Bria teasingly cooed. “You know, I’ve always wondered how someone so smart could ever be so stupid.”
Gus curled tighter into a ball, shutting his eyes so tightly the skin around his eyes began to wrinkle.
“This is why you’re so useful Gus, you’re so desperate to make friends, you can be a tool.” Bria cackled, placing her hands on her hips.
Gus began to shake his head back and forth and gritting his teeth, “Shut up, just shut up!” Gus buried his head in his arms trying to tune out Bria’s voice.
Matt was trying to process the things he was hearing, Gus had truly been holding in a lot and it seemed that now was when Matt needed to help his boyfriend.
Slowly Matt placed a hand on Gus’s shoulder, Gus looked back at him, eyes still glowing with his brows knit down.
“Gus..” Matt started but paused. He was never good with emotions especially other people’s, what if he just messed up and made things worse?
No, Matt didn’t have time to think about that. This wasn’t about him, it was about Gus. Who really needed a hug and some comforting words as soon as possible.
So Matt figuratively manned up and began speaking again.
“Gus, can you try to take some deep breaths please?” Matt asked, silently praying he wouldn’t mess anything up.
Gus’s breathing kept hitching as he exhaled while he was still clearly trying to hold himself together, Matt directed Gus’s attention to him as Matt began taking deep breaths with Gus’s beginning to follow his example of breathing.
“That’s it Gus, you’re doing good.” Matt reassured.
After a minute of deep breathing and encouraging words from Matt the illusion around them began to fade and suddenly they were back in Gus’s bedroom with no trace of the graveyard of Bria in sight.
Gus wore a somber look on his face as if he just spent all of his energy on his feelings.
“Sorry about that-.”
“No.” Matt interrupted, “Don’t apologize, it wasn’t your fault.” Matt gave Gus’s shoulder a soft squeeze.
“Why can’t I learn though?” Gus asked, still not looking in Matt’s direction.
“I always get tricked and yet I’m always still called the smart kid, so why can’t I just be smart for once?” Gus’s words felt like ice water that made your skin feel all prickly and Matt knew he needed to bring some warmth to Gus.
Matt Grabbed both of Gus’s hands and rubbed his thumb over the knuckles urging Gus to slowly look up at Matt’s sympathetic eyes.
“Gus, you are the smartest witch I have ever known.” Matt saw the doubtful expression on Gus’s face so he kept going. “And I’m not just saying that, you are always eager to learn something new and you always notice the small details that you apply to help anyone who needs it.”
Matt saw Gus’s ear perk up which encouraged Matt to continue speaking.
“Sure you may be a bit Gullible but that’s like the best part about you, you always find it somewhere in your heart to forgive people and give them a second chance to prove themselves and you still continue forward even when you are scared, so long story short.”
“Too late.” Gus joked which made Matt chuckle.
“The point is, Nobody's perfect but that’s ok because I still like what’s flawed about you.” Matt explained.
Gus smiled, a true smile that made Matt's heart jump a little. “Thank you Matty.” Gus thanked warmly.
“Don’t mention it.” Matt beamed then placed a kiss on Gus’s nose.
“Do you feel better?” Matt asked.
“A little bit.” Gus answered with his smile faltering a bit.
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Just stay?” Gus shyly requested. “Of course.” Matt pulled Gus into his arms, laying them both down on the bed and letting Gus lay down beside him and then wrap his arms around him while Matt kissed the back of his neck softly.
“I love you, Gus.”
“I love you too Matty.”

Kyle Broflozski x reader pt 4
Warning: Swearing
Background: You get back to your dorm from your night with Kyle and after your roommate, Heidi questions what happened last night you start to doubt if Kyle even wants to be with you.
Previous part
Next part
'Official'
You walk back to your dorm after leaving Kyle's. You walk in quietly and tiptoe in. You close the door and put your shoes on the floor.
"Well well well," Heidi says with a laugh watching you walk in. "Looks like you had a fun night."
"It was nice but not in the way you think. I'm taking it slow this time." You say going into the bathroom.
"I guess that's best, but you got to keep him locked down." Heidi joked.
You poke your head back into the room and pout. "Do you think he'll date someone else?"
"W-what no it was a joke." Heidi tries to backtrack
"Ugh what if he does tho." You groan going back into the bathroom and taking a shower.
As the water hits you you start to think about whether Kyle really was willing to wait for you to speed things up. Then you thought about whether or not you and Kyle were official or not. Last night felt official but did Kyle think the same?
You finished your shower and changed leaving quickly to get to class. You rush to class and sit down not being able to focus on the lecture. You continued to think about Kyle and only Kyle.
It had only been a month since your breakup but you already really liked Kyle. It felt wrong to move on so quickly.
You leave class after it finishes and go to the cafeteria. You grab a coffee and sandwich then sat down at a table next to a window. You drink and eat while looking out the window.
You couldn't help but think of Kyle the entire time and how you shut him down last night. You wonder if that was the best choice considering how much you liked him.
You groan and stand up throwing away your drink and food in the trash. You walk all the way to Kyle's dorm and knock.
Kyle opens the door. When his eyes land on you he gives you a big smile. Before he could greet you, you crash your lips on his.
His eyes widen but he holds onto your waist and kisses back. You pull back and look at him breathing heavily and blushing.
"W-what was that about?" Kyle asked.
"Are we official?" You ask your face still close to his.
"W-what?"
"Last night I was flirting the entire time and then we got back here I didn't let you continue and I just don't want you to get bored and if you want to find someone else.." You ramble before Kyle lifts your head up and kisses your lips softly making you stop.
He pulls away after a second and smiles.
"Of course we're official. If you're ok with that." He says with a slight smirk.
"More than ok." You say leaning in for another kiss.
Stan lets out a loud cough making you look over Kyle's shoulder and see Stan sitting in front of the computer with his back to you. You blush a bit and let out a frustrated sigh.
"You ever going to class?" You ask with a frown.
"You ever gonna go to your own dorm? But hey I 'sleep through anything' so no big deal." Stan says with a smirk, his back still towards you.
Kyle's face turns red and he leads you out of the room closing the door behind him.
"So where were we?" He says cupping your cheek.
"Hmm, not here. Heidi isn't gonna be back until 10 tonight so we got a few hours alone in my dorm." You say wrapping your arms around his neck and giving him a peck on the lips.
Kyle smiles softly and you lead him to your dorm.
A/N: Hey guys I was gone for a minute and I still won't be back to posting as frequently as I did so I'm so sorry. But anyways I hope you all liked it and as always love you all bye bye 🩷🩷🩷

Kevin, we need to talk. Part 7
Word count 913
You and Kevin tell your parents
You and Kevin decided to wait a couple of weeks before telling your parents about the pregnancy. By the time you hit your 16-week mark, you knew you had to come clean. “You ready for this,” Kevin asked. “Not really,” you said. Kevin squeezed your hand, and the two of you walked into his living room where his parents were watching TV.
“Hey guys,” his mom said with a smile. “Hi Eva,” you said, sitting down on the couch and wiping your hand on your pant legs. Eva looked at you with a worried expression on her face. “Are you okay, sweetheart?” You nodded as Kevin took the spot between you and his father. “We uh. We have something we need to tell you,” Kevin said. “Did you crash your car,” Franklin asked. “No, dad. I didn’t crash my car,” Kevin said. His dad breathed an audible sigh of relief. “Then what’s going on,” Eva asked, looking back and forth between you and Kevin. “I’m pregnant,” you said, looking at the floor. Eva stared at you for a few moments. “How far along are you,” she said. “I’m 16 weeks, we find out the baby’s gender in a month,” you responded. "How could you be so stupid? Did you even use protection,” Franklin demanded. “FRANKLIN THAT’S ENOUGH,” Eva scolded her husband. “No Eva, it’s not. We taught him better than that,” Franklin argued. “This conversation does not need to happen right now. If you need to take a walk, then take one, Franklin. There are things that need to be discussed,” Eva said. With that, Franklin nodded before standing up and leaving the room. “So, I take your mention of gender means you’re keeping the baby,” Eva said, looking at you. You placed your hand in Kevin’s and nodded. “Luckily I’m not due until after graduation,” you said. Eva allowed your words to sink in. “So, what’s your plan for after the baby comes,” she asked. “Well, I’ve already spoken to Uncle Dan, and he said I could work for him at his tech company. He said he’d help me get certified. I already know my way around computers, so it’s just a technicality for legal purposes. Y/N will stay home and take care of the baby,” Kevin said. Eva nodded, agreeing that it was a good plan. “Have you told your father,” Eva asked, looking at you. “That’s our next stop,” you said, trying to keep your voice level. “He might be disappointed, but he loves you very much, Y/N. He just wants what’s best for you,” Eva said, squeezing your knee. You smiled at her. “I’m going to go find Franklin and see if I can’t get him on board with this whole thing,” she said before getting up and walking out of the room.
You breathed an audible sigh of relief and laid your head on Kevin’s shoulder. “Well, that went better than expected,” Kevin said as he traced the veins in your hand. “Yeah, it really did. Now come the fun part,” you said as you stood up, pulling Kevin up with you. The whole ride to your house, Kevin tried his best to quell your anxiety. He held your hand, made jokes, and he even let you play whatever music you wanted to. It worked for a bit, but it all came back with a vengeance when you turned onto your street. “Oh God, he’s going to be so disappointed in me,” you said as you put your face in your hands. “He might be, for a bit. But my mom’s right. He loves you, and he will get over it,” Kevin said as he put the truck in park. You nodded at him and climbed out.
“Hey dad, I’m home. Kevin’s with me,” you yelled as you and Kevin entered the house. “Hey sweetheart, I’m in the living room,” he yelled back. You walked in and took a seat on the couch. “Hey, Kevin. How’s it going,” your dad said as he gave Kevin a fist bump. “Not bad, sir,” Kevin said as he sat down next to you. “So, uh, dad. I, um. I have something I need to tell you,” you said, looking at the floor. Your dad quickly turned off the television and turned towards you. “Everything, okay?” he asked, looking at you worriedly. “I’m pregnant,” you blurted out before you could chicken out. When your dad didn’t say anything, you looked up at him. “Dad, I’m so sorry,” you said. “How did this happen? I mean, I know how it happened, obviously,” your dad rambled. “I’m so sorry dad, I’ve ruined everything. You work so hard to give me a good life, and I threw it all away,” you said, wiping tears from your eyes. “Hey, you’re 18. You graduate in what? 5 months. Yeah, it’s inopportune, but that’s how life is. No matter what, I love you, and I will be here, always,” your dad said, as he stood up and wrapped you in his arms. “So, what’s the game plan,” your dad asked, and Kevin began telling him everything you had told his parents. After everything, your dad also agreed that it was a good plan.
“So, are you guys hungry,” he asked. “Starving,” you said. “How about I order us some pizza, and the three of us can watch a movie,” your dad suggested. “Sounds good to me,” Kevin said. You nodded in agreement.

Summary
If a little dancing can help Ladybug de-stress, Adrien doesn't mind if she doesn't know all the steps.
Written for the @ladrienjune prompt "slow dance." Posted early because I have no self-control 😂.
Read on Ao3 or under the cut!
...
At the sound of Ladybug crashing into something—the foosball table, as it turned out—Adrien set down his pen and swivelled around in his desk chair, watching as she rubbed her hip and returned to pacing around his room. She'd shown up twenty minutes ago, insisting she didn't want to distract him from finishing his homework once she'd realized he was working on it, and had then started wandering around like she might implode if she stopped.
He'd let her be for a while—experience told him that sometimes she just needed to get something out of her system. But at this point, he doubted whatever was bothering her was something she'd manage to walk off.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked.
She jumped at the sound of his voice, almost crashing into the sofa as well. And under other circumstances, Adrien might have smiled. He loved every side of this girl who’d long ago stolen his heart. Her inability to walk straight was no exception.
(“Besides,” she would say if he teased her about it, “what kind of bisexual would I be if I walked straight?”
And Adrien would follow up with some joke about how he should stop walking in runway shows if that was a qualification for being bi.)
But today didn't feel like the time for jokes.
“W-what?” she said.
He shrugged, following her lead when she glanced away—he didn’t want her to feel overwhelmed. But he missed having her in his line of sight—even when he’d been finishing up his math problems he’d been able to see her reflection on his darkened computer screen. So he quickly shifted his eyes back to her, smiling when he noticed she was watching too.
“Whatever’s on your mind.”
Her eyes widened. “I didn’t say…”
“I know. I could just…tell.”
“Ugh.” She made a face as she slumped down on the couch’s armrest, falling back against the cushions a second later. “I’m the worst company today, aren’t I? Sorry. I can go if I’m too much of a distraction.”
“No!” Adrien shouted, loud enough that Ladybug sprung back to a sitting position, bracing herself on the back of the couch. He smiled sheepishly. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to shout, I just...well, I don't want you to go. I love it when you visit, and I’m almost done with my homework anyways. It just seems like…maybe you’re upset about something?”
Ladybug stood, fiddling with her hands as she slowly made her way towards him. She stopped beside him, and for a second he—foolishly—hoped she might sit in his lap. Instead she leaned against the edge of his desk, tracing a finger over the numbers and variables he'd inked into the page.
"I'm not...upset, exactly," she said. "More like...stressed. But it's no big deal." She shrugged. "Just life stuff."
She sent him a somber smile—the kind that had I'm trying to tell you I'm fine—totally FINE! But actually I'm coming apart at the seams HAHAHA written all over it. Adrien knew it well. But he hated seeing it on someone he loved.
"Is there any way I could help?" he asked.
"I mean, if you could take down Shadow Moth, that would be great."
"No problem!" He smiled. "Be right back."
Committed to the bit, Adrien was steps away from his bathroom when a giggle cut him off. "Are you hiding him in the shower or something?"
"Psssh. No! I was trying to fake a dramatic exit."
"Through the bathroom? Were you going to jump out the window? Slide down the drain?"
"Actually, there's a secret passageway behind the mirror."
"Wait. Really?"
He laughed. "No. But good to know you believe me so easily."
"Pfft. That was the last time, Agreste."
"Uh-huh..."
Still grinning, Adrien made his way back to the desk. When he got there, he rolled the chair away in favour of leaning against the desk beside her. He wasn't bold enough to sit so close that their hands would brush, but he was rewarded anyways when Ladybug leaned her head against his shoulder. Adrien’s heart skipped a beat. Or ten.
He wanted to say something else, but he didn't dare disturb the moment.
"I just have so much to do," she said. "But it's all stuff I have to wait for. Like, I'm organizing an event for my class at school, but nobody's getting back to me about what they can bring. And I promised my parents I'd help them install some new shelves, but the order keeps getting delayed. And then there's Hawk Moth, who could strike at any time. And like...the only things I could probably get started on are a few projects for school. Except those aren't due for at least a few more days, so I can't seem to make myself actually start them, and so I keep just playing things over and over in my head, trying to figure out what activity I'm going to slot in when, but there's no good answer, and ugh. I have fifteen kwamis in my room, including one I could use to see the future, but then, like, that might" —her next words were encased in bunny ears— "mess up the timeline."
She sighed, hands slumping back to her sides. "Which really means that none of the superpowers at my disposal are actually helpful, and it's just...I feel like I'm never going to get anything done, which is stupid, I know, but..."
She finished by standing up—Adrien immediately missed her warmth at his side—and throwing her hands up in frustration while she made some indecipherable noise. Then her eyes locked on his and widened, like she'd only just remembered he was there.
"I don't think it's stupid," he said gently. "I think...it's amazing you do all that and still manage to be as wonderful as you are."
His words seemed to have the opposite effect as intended, making her shoulders slump. "But I'm not wonderful. I snapped at my best friend today, and at my cru—uuuh...at my other friend." She started pacing again. "And now I'm dumping all my problems on you, and you probably think I'm crazy, and you'll never invite me back here, and..."
She listed a few more things Adrien couldn't quite make sense of—something about kids and hamsters?—but he didn't think the words were really for him anymore. Unable to watch her keep spiraling, he stood and walked over, stopping her mid-sentence by setting his hands on her shoulders.
"Hey," he said. "I'm sure everything will turn out okay."
Her gaze dropped to her feet. "Maybe..."
"Definitely."
She only sighed in response.
Adrien debated his next words carefully. Part of him wondered if he was secretly being selfish considering his next question—the idea was definitely thrilling to him. But if he were in her position, he was pretty sure it was what he would want someone to ask, even if he weren't in love with that someone. And he probably didn't have much to lose.
"Would you like a hug?"
Her eyes shot back up to his, gleaming with some emotion that sent a thrill through him. Then she nodded, and Adrien wasted no time in wrapping his arms around her.
Of course she fit well there—he'd hugged her enough as Chat Noir to know that. But he wasn't expecting the way she practically melted into his embrace, or the way his heart rate skyrocketed when her breath ruffled his T-shirt. She smelled of something sweet and floral—he'd ask her what shampoo she used if that weren't so creepy. And even the way the ends of her pigtail brushed against his arm when she turned her head was a tiny bit of ecstasy he was certain he'd remember for the rest of his life.
But the hug wasn't about him
"Do you feel better?" he asked maybe a minute later, rubbing a hand down her back. She didn't answer, so he pulled back and searched her expression. "Ladybug?"
Her face crumpled. "No. I still can't stop thinking about everything. And you're being so nice, which must make me awful, and—"
"It doesn't," he assured her. "You're still incredible."
That time, his compliment earned him a tiny smile.
"Maybe you just need a better distraction," he said, before he had to watch that smile fade. "We could...play some mecha strike?"
She shrugged, shaking her hands at her sides. "I feel too...jittery to sit down."
"Ah. Okay. I guess that means a movie's out of the question."
"Sorry."
"It's okay, I promise. We'll figure something out." Adrien bit his lip, looking around the room. So much stuff, but none of it was useful. Then an idea popped into his head that tugged a smile onto his face. "We could...dance?"
Ladybug laughed. "I can't even walk without running into something, and you want me to move other parts of my body at the same time?"
"So, we'll slow dance then. No way you mess that up."
She snorted. "No, but I can totally hurt you when I step on your feet twelve thousand times."
"Twelve thousand? That would actually be impressive."
She laughed again, then sobered. "But do you really...do you want to dance with me?"
Suddenly nervous, Adrien resisted the urge to scratch the back of his neck. Instead he reached out his left hand, trying to project confidence despite the flutters that rippled through him when he noticed her cheeks redden. "It would be my honour."
Taking a deep breath, Ladybug reached for his hand. Adrien followed up by taking a half-step closer and hesitantly settling his free hand on her waist. After that, she seemed at a loss with what to do with her other arm, but she slowly bent her elbow and placed a hand on his chest. Instinct—from lessons he'd taken years ago—told him she should technically put her hand a little higher, but he pushed those feelings aside, trying his best to focus on nothing but her.
That wasn't exactly hard when her eyes found his.
"S-see?" he said, a little breathless. "You're already a pro."
She bit her lip, unable to conceal her smile. "We're not even moving yet."
"Well, that's not so hard either." He took a small step back. "Just one step after the other."
"One after the other," she repeated in a whisper, lowering her gaze as she followed his first step.
They went on like that for a while, in small slow steps, eventually building up some semblance of rhythm. Ladybug started humming some song at some point—one with 4/4 timing that didn't at all work for the waltz he'd been counting in his head. But somehow that made the moment even more perfect, like how when she finally stopped paying so much attention to each step, she giggled every time she stumbled into him.
She was finally smiling, and nothing else mattered
"Thank you," she whispered against his chest when they got tired of actual dancing and ended up swaying slowly behind by the window. "I feel better now."
Lost in the moment, Adrien didn't even think before bending down to kiss her head. "Me too, my lady."

john hancock x sole!fem!reader
small fluff for fav fo4 companion <:3
a/n: i’m currently doing far harbor in fallout 4 and i usually have hancock as my companion, but i’ve been using nick bc storyline but every time i return to sanctuary hancock always asks if we’re heading out again and i feel so bad😭😭😭
ao3 version
john was once again, high out of his mind.
this was nothing new, but it had been happening more frequently since sole had left to investigate nick’s supposed brother up north. every so often sole would stop by to drop off junk and spend the night with her proclaimed “favorite ghoul slash mayor”. he relished the small amount of time with her and missed traveling with her every day, but he knew that nick was better equipped (haha computer joke) to help her in this situation.
maccreedy was apparently trying to have a conversation with the ghoul, hancock hadn’t even processed that he was there. maccreedy deadpanned and walked away, did he say something about someone’s snack? he squinted his eyes to try and focus on what was just said to him when it clicked, sole’s back.
he heard her before he saw her, feeling a body crash into him while also being squeezed close to death only a few seconds after his name was called out. he grinned and wrapped his arms around her waist, looking at her with his onyx eyes, “hey there sunshine, here to drop off some more junk?” sole rolled her eyes and moved so that her arms were wrapped properly around his neck, “i’ve told you before it’s not junk! it’s material waiting to be repurposed!” hancock shook his head and felt his chest growing warm as he held her in his arms, “whatever you say doll, now come here.” she squealed as he picked her up by the back of her thighs and took her into their own little house in sanctuary. <3

I Wanna Believe (that we're a masterpiece)
Pairing: Carol Danvers/Natasha Romanoff
Summary: Natasha seems to be unable to take care of herself, so Carol decides she will the one to do that
Disclaimer: English is not my first language
Read on AO3
The first time it happens, Carol had a small smile on her face while one of her hands held a piece of cloth to Natasha's shoulder, using the other hand to apply pressure from the other side. Natasha hadn't been shot, but one of the guys they were fighting against had pushed her through a window and, well, she got a small little cut.
"It's not small," Clint had argued after everyone joined the group when the fight was over. "It's pretty nasty, actually."
"I've had worse," was her reply and, well, she wasn’t lying.
Even so, Clint insisted that she put something to stop the bleeding and Steve had betrayed her when he said she looked a bit pale, and that's how Natasha found herself sitting at the back of a van while the team got back to the compound. Clint was driving and, usually, they would be the only ones there because everyone else could quite literally fly around, but Captain Marvel said she would ride with them to make sure Natasha would actually take care of her injury.
The redhead spent the first minute or two just staring at the other woman, wondering why she was there - not just the van, but Earth as well since she wasn’t known for spending too much time on her home planet before leaving again - but her resolve faltered when Clint's reckless driving made an appearance, making her jump when the car hit a hole. She hissed in pain and that's when Carol came forward to take a look at her shoulder. She had to slap Natasha's hand away, though with an amused grin, before deciding she was more fitting to the job of holding the cloth in place.
"It's not half as bad as you're all making it seem," Natasha complained after a moment, although her voice didn’t have the bite to it that she was aiming for.
Carol looked up, all bright brown eyes and a lopsided smile, and her hot breath hit the side of Natasha's face without her noticing it. The Russian woman did, though, and she had to make a conscious effort to keep her eyes locked into brown ones.
"Yes, we all know you will survive," Carol teased her. "But I also guess you don't have blood bags spreading around to use if you keep bleeding like this."
"I'm not bleeding that much," Natasha mumbled, only slightly irritated.
"Well, you're welcome."
Carol shrugged so nonchalantly that Natasha couldn’t do anything else other than laugh at the gesture. The blonde seemed content with the reaction she got and her eyes shined like the stars that the woman flew by every day in space. Her smile also widened and she looked smug for a second before Clint hit another hole, making them both jump.
"Guess you're right," Carol said, "you're in more danger of dying in a car crash in the next few minutes than from this wound."
Natasha didn’t reply, mostly because she knew she should actually fear for her life there. That's why she didn’t let Clint drive.
[...]
Alcohol, cotton and antiseptic were involved the second time. They were safe from Clint's driving, but Carol had followed Natasha to the bathroom when their post-fight meeting at the compound ended. They had won, once again, however not without throwing a few punches and being at the other end as well. Carol frowned when she saw Natasha entering the room with Captain America by her side, one side of her face already turning a sickening shade of yellow and purple. Her bottom lip was split, swollen as well, as half of her face was, but the woman didn’t seem even a little disturbed by that.
She endured all the talk, the jokes the boys liked to throw around, and then even helped Tony to set a few things on a computer before she walked out to the hall. That's when Carol followed her, making sure she would do something with her injuries. Natasha entered the hallway bathroom seconds later and, before she could close the door behind her, Carol stepped inside behind her.
"The hell?!"
"Let me take a look at it," Carol said before the redhead could actually start screaming at her.
Natasha, on the other hand, only scoffed as if the idea was too ridiculous to be considered. "It's just a bruise. It will heal just fine."
"Your lip is bleeding," the other woman pointed out without trying to hide her worry.
"Yes, that's what happens when someone punches you in the face," Natasha dismissed with an eye roll. "I'm sure you know."
"I know it can happen, yes," Carol answered slowly, "although I don't remember the feeling of it. It must be hurting, though."
Natasha didn’t answer her right away as she was expecting though. Carol was kind of waiting for the woman to snap again, but Natasha only looked at her with what seemed to be a curious expression on her face before she rolled her eyes again and turned to open a cabinet. She pulled a first aid kit from there and, making it look to be the hardest thing she ever did in her life, handed it to Carol, who just smiled happily at her. Moments later, the blonde was cleaning the blood from her chin with a wet cotton ball while holding her face with the other hand.
While her eyes focused on the injury, Natasha's eyes paid close attention to the superhero. To the crinkle between her brows while she was concentrating on the task in her hands, to the stray blonde hair falling down her face, to the strong shoulders beneath the red and blue suit, to the hands that were callous but handled her so gently. Natasha had a hard time thinking after that and, before she noticed it, Carol was pulling away from her with a smile.
"There!" She declared happily. "I think putting some ice on it will help with the swelling, so you should do that."
"I'm fine," Natasha said and immediately looked away when she noticed that her voice was just above a whisper. "Thanks."
"No problem. Just try to keep yourself in one piece next time, yes?"
[...]
She did try, Natasha could argue, but she was also working for the craziest team in the world and they deal with a lot of shitty situations.
So, of course, the third time happened not long after the day in the bathroom.
This time, she got a concussion after an explosion that threw her back several feet. She got up to her feet pretty fast and made sure she took down some of the bad guys before she could get too dizzy to do so. Steve made sure the fight was over while Natasha tried to hide the fact that the world around her was spinning, but she wasn’t so lucky when Carol approached her, already putting a hand on her shoulder.
"You okay?"
Her voice sounded distant, so very far away that it was almost like Natasha had her head underwater. The redhead tried to focus on the face in front of her - the worried eyes and the lips pursed in a fine line - but there were suddenly two Carols in front of her and it was hard to keep standing. Even so, she wasn’t about to say that out loud.
"Sure." She tried to push herself away, to put some space between them and to prove she was fine, but her body wobbled before she could get too far and, suddenly both of Carol's hands were holding her arms to keep her standing. "Do you work here now?" Natasha asked, trying to change the subject. "Like… all the time? Thought your office was, like, up space."
"The amount of times you said 'like' is all the answer I need, really," Carol said with just a bit of humor. "You need to sit down."
"No, I'm fine."
Which would've been a lie if she ever managed to finish the sentence, but, just as she opened her mouth, she felt the bile at the back of her throat. Carol noticed the way her face twisted and got a yellowish color, which gave her enough time to get out of the way when Natasha leaned forward and let all the contents of her stomach meet the floor.
"Okay," Carol drew the word slowly while her hand kept touching the back of the other woman, making sure she wouldn’t fall face-first on the floor. "Guess someone needs to lay down."
"I don't," Natasha tried to insist, but it only made Carol roll her eyes.
Natasha wasn't able to notice things around her or register the conversations that followed. If she did, she would have argued when Carol told Bruce that she needed medical assistance and she certainly wouldn’t have agreed when the superhero said it would be safer if Carol took her back to the compound. Natasha wasn't okay though and all she could do was grab Carol's arm to stop her from picking her up from the floor.
"I can walk," Natasha said.
Carol hesitated for a moment, looking at the woman up and down twice to be sure. "I don't think you can."
The redhead scoffed. "Watch me."
She took one step forward and then suddenly the world around her began to spin in a way that almost made her puke again. She didn't. Instead, the spinning came to an end when everything went black as she fell.
Natasha regained her consciousness slowly. She could hear a steady beep from a machine that she knew was measuring her heartbeats, she could feel a very uncomfortable bed she was lying on, she could smell the antiseptic. She knew she was in a hospital bed before she even opened her eyes, although she instantly regretted it when the white light above her made her eyes burn and her head hurt.
"Yeah, not very wise to do it now."
The voice came from her right side and Natasha turned her head to that direction before she could stop herself, glaring at the woman sitting beside her. Carol had her legs crossed on a chair, flipping through a magazine, and looking very mundane wearing some normal clothes for once. Jeans and a band t-shirt that looked old and worn out. Even if her head was hurting and her eyes teared up because of the brightness, Natasha still forced herself to look at Carol because… well, she was there and she was a sight that couldn’t be missed.
The blonde flipped the pages twice more before she stole a glance at Natasha. "Try not to move your head so much. It will make you dizzy."
Natasha tried to speak then, but her mouth felt dry as if there were a dozen cotton balls inside it. She closed her eyes, trying to focus on a single movement to wet her lips, although she knew it was useless. When she opened her eyes again, Carol’s attention had gone back to the magazine and Natasha didn’t have another option other than to look at her profile for a while. Her tense jaws, her frowned brows, the lack of her usual smile.
"You mad," she muttered in her raspy voice that made her throat burn and her lips crack a bit.
It wasn’t a question. She knew Carol was mad. It was pretty obvious. Even so, she saw the other woman sigh and close the magazine with a harsh movement before her hand raised to pinch the bridge of her nose as her eyes closed. It lasted just a short moment, but she seemed tired when she looked at Natasha.
"I should call for the doctor to check on you. I kinda forgot how this hospital thing works."
"Why?" Natasha asked.
"'Cus I can't get hurt, remember?" Was Carol's answer, but she was already at the door by the time she said it and Natasha didn’t have the chance to clarify she was asking why Carol was there.
The doctor entered the room alone a few minutes later, smiling politely, and Natasha had to endure several tests that the man wanted to make. He told her she had been out for only a few hours, mostly due to the sedatives, and that it was normal for her not to remember entering the hospital or anything like it. He also explained she had a bad concussion and a wound at the back of her head that, luckily, didn’t need stitches.
"It was a bad motorcycle accident," he commented after making Natasha follow the light at the end of his pen with her eyes for a while. "But you will be fine."
It only took her a moment to realize that was the cover story Carol had come up with since they couldn’t exactly say Natasha had survived a bomb explosion that some crazy dude used to try to stop the Avengers from getting him. So, a motorcycle accident it is. Well, Natasha was glad that most people would fall for any lie without too much questioning.
"Your wife had been very worried about you."
Natasha's eyes met his face so fast that her head spun again. "What?"
The man, who was writing down a few things on her chart, used his pen to point at the door that Carol left before. "Your wife. She had been pacing around the room and driving our nurses crazy with her questions." He didn't seem angry about it, though. In fact, he had a soft smile when he kept writing. "She was pretty scared when she entered the ER with you, from what they told me. Your head was bleeding pretty badly and she had to carry you with something to try to stop the blood."
"She's not my wife," was all Natasha could say to all of that.
Which, of course, earned her a stare from the man. He considered her words for a second, then he shrugged and started putting the chart back in its place at the foot of her bed. "Well, put a ring on it, then. And try not to do any tricks with a bike again, okay?"
He left and Natasha was only alone for a moment before the door opened again and Carol entered the room. "They want to hold you for the night to make sure you're okay."
"No," Natasha quickly replied.
Carol sighed. "I knew you would say that, so I told them we would like to leave. I suppose they're just doing some paperwork for that now."
Natasha felt her body relax a bit knowing she wouldn’t have to stay there for much longer, although it didn't last long when she noticed that Carol hadn’t moved far from the door yet. "What?"
"I'm not mad," the blonde said eventually. "You got me pretty worried."
"Sorry," Natasha mumbled.
"I asked you to stay in one piece." Natasha arched one eyebrow that said way more than her words ever could. Noticing the gesture, Carol sighed again. "I know you have to fight the bad guys and all, but… that's the third time I had to stop you from bleeding to death."
"I was hardly bleeding the other times," Natasha quickly argued.
"Well, this time you were," Carol interrupted her just as fast, her voice raising without her noticing it. She did once the last word was out and the blonde took a deep breath to regain control over her emotions again. "Just… rest for a while longer until they come to discharge you."
"Why do you care?" Natasha had asked when they were walking out of the hospital almost two hours later. She saw Clint waiting for them at the other side of the parking lot, but she didn’t know what possessed her to ask the question.
"Because I care about you," Carol replied calmly.
"Why?" Natasha pressed.
The blonde turned to face her with such serenity written all over her expression that Natasha couldn’t come up with any reply after what she said. "Is it too hard to believe that I just do?"
Natasha didn’t bother saying that no one else in her life had ever cared.
Somehow, she knew that Carol was aware of that.
[...]
The fourth time was a bit ridiculous, if Natasha was the one to say it.
She was cooking, something that wasn’t normal but also didn’t mean the world was ending.
Well, it could be ending because Tony, Steve and Bruce left a few hours prior to some mission, however, they said no one else needed to go with them. Clint had taken the opportunity to go spend some time with his family, which meant that Natasha would be the only one in the compound for the night. That’s what she thought when she walked to the kitchen to open the fridge and see what they had that could serve as a quick dinner. She was looking at a carton of milk, trying to find out if it had expired already or not, when she noticed someone was approaching her.
“Boo!”
Natasha didn’t even blink when Carol jumped inside the kitchen with her arms raised and a large smile that fitted her joyful little prank very well. The blonde froze for a second when she got no reaction from the other woman, but her smile didn’t falter when she walked closer to Natasha.
“I thought I could succeed with that one,” she commented when she leaned against the counter beside the fridge.
Natasha glanced at her for a second. “I am a trained spy, you know?”
Carol shrugged and reached out to grab an apple from the fruit bowl. “What are you doing?”
“Dinner,” the redhead replied as she watched the superhero bite down at the fruit.
It shouldn’t be a sexual gesture at all, but Natasha had to look away when she realized some dirty thoughts trying to break free. Carol was gorgeous, there was no denying that. Actually, anyone with functional eyes would be able to agree that she was beautiful. She was taller than Natasha, her arms filled her suit very well and she just had this energy on her that was hard to miss. She wasn’t wearing her suit that night, though, choosing a sleeveless tank top and loose sweat pants, with her hair pulled in a ponytail and bare feet touching the floor without a care in the world. The fact is that Carol Danvers was a gorgeous woman and Natasha had eyes, thank you very much, but the biggest problem was that they had been spending more time together since the blonde seemed to decide she would stay on Earth for a while. She wasn’t just gorgeous, Natasha didn’t take too long to notice. Carol was smart, brave, compassionate, charming, sarcastic and fun to be around. She could put up with Natasha’s smart mouth and they spent several nights playing chess or checkers, something that was way more fun than it should be.
It all meant that now Natasha was finding the act of eating an apple way sexier than she should and it bothered her so much that she had to look away and grab something else inside the fridge.
“Oh, sweet!” Carol exclaimed after she chew. “You’re making dinner?”
“Are you hungry?” Natasha asked instead of saying she was planning on eating whatever she found inside the fridge.
“Yeah!”
And that’s how Natasha found herself cutting things at the long-forgotten cutting board that she was sure Pepper put there for them. Carol tried to help at first, but Natasha took the knife from her hand when the woman accidentally cut through the first cutting board. After that, she sat at the counter again, as if the kitchen didn’t have dozens of chairs for her to do it, and chatted with Natasha while the other woman took care of everything.
“What are you going to do?”
“A Russian typical dish,” Natasha answered. “Raw fish with uncooked potatoes.”
Carol blinked. “Uh-”
The shorter woman looked up with a teasing smile. “I’m messing with you.”
“Oh,” Carol breathed out in relief, putting her hand against her chest when a laugh escaped her lips. “Wow, for a second I thought you were trying to kill me.”
Natasha shook her head in amusement and returned to her task of chopping some parsley. “I’m sure you ate worse things during your trips.”
“Well, yes, but I have high hopes here,” the superhero joked. “So, really, what are you cooking?”
“Golubtsi,” Natasha replied in perfect Russian to someone that didn’t even have an accent. “It is typical from Russia, actually. I think you might like it, but I will warn you that I haven’t cooked this dish for a very long time.”
“I’m sure it will taste great,” Carol said with a soft smile as she watched the woman.
“You made me curious,” Natasha changed the subject suddenly. “What’s the worse thing you ever ate?”
Carol thought about it for a moment, tapping her chin with a finger, before she looked back at Natasha with a grimace. “Not the worse, but the weirdest. Tentacles.”
The redhead arched one eyebrow at her. “Tentacles?” She repeated, receiving a nod in confirmation. “Of what?”
“To this day, I have no idea.” Carol’s face contorted in disgust and a visible shiver ran down her body, which made Natasha laugh lowly. “And I think it’s better if I never find out.”
“Poor Space Cadet,” Natasha teased as she moved to put the parsley inside a bowl so she could cut the onion.
“Space Cadet,” Carol scoffed even if she smiled widely at the stupid nickname.
Natasha only smiled to herself and moved to grab the onion, however, she stopped herself when she saw the jar of olives she took from one of the cabinets. She forgot about it before because her plans included eating the olives while she cooked, so she decided to open it now. Natasha used a cloth to dry her hands and then tried to spin the metal lid to open it, but it didn’t move even slightly. She knew she could open it, really, but her eyes caught Carol just sitting there kicking her legs like a small child and it was an easy decision. The redhead walked closer to the superhero and held the jar in front of her.
“I know I can use warm water to lose the lid and open it, but you’re here and I think you can be a perfect jar opener,” Natasha said before she gestured with the jar when Carol didn’t move to grab it.
The blonde then took it from her hand with an eye roll and had no problem opening the jar with a single movement that didn’t even make her muscles tense. She handed it back to Natasha, who was now smiling gladly at the open jar, and crossed her arms next. “Is that all I am to you?” She joked.
“No,” Natasha answered with an olive already inside her mouth. “I’m pretty sure you could open the tomato sauce can too.”
Natasha winked at her, smiling, then turned around to put the olives inside a small container while Carol huffed, trying to pretend she was mad. The Russian woman had just grabbed the knife again when she realized how domestic it all seemed. Carol watching her cook, opening a freaking jar for her, laughing at her lame jokes and just being there with her soft smile. And Natasha was cooking for her. And she thought about a dish that the woman would like, and she wanted to make small talk, and she wanted to find out everything about Carol Danvers.
Because she liked her.
As soon as that thought crossed her mind, the knife descended to cut the onion, finding her finger instead.
“Fuck,” Natasha hissed, letting go of the knife and the onion out of instinct as she took a step back to take a look at the damage.
Before she could, however, Carol jumped from the counter and was standing in front of her so fast that Natasha barely noticed her move. “Let me see,” the woman demanded, all joy gone from her voice.
She held Natasha’s wrist gently, praying for her to let her see, and the redhead didn’t have to think much before letting the woman take her already bloody hand in her own. The cut on her index finger wasn’t that deep, but blood was running freely from it and the burning she felt couldn’t be ignored. Carol tried to look at it for a while, but the blood didn’t let her assemble how bad it was, so she pulled Natasha towards the sink carefully, where she turned the faucet on and put Natasha’s finger under the running water.
“Sorry,” Carol mumbled when the other woman hissed again. “Just making sure you didn’t cut anything important.”
Natasha bit her bottom lip to stop herself from replying, deciding it was better not to try to fight the worried Carol since it didn’t do her any good the other times she tried. Carol only relaxed when the blood cleaned enough for her to see that Natasha hadn’t accidentally almost chopped her finger off and that it wasn’t so bad that she would need stitches. She actually sighed in relief and her shoulders relaxed so visibly that Natasha stared at her with her eyebrows raised.
“It won’t stop bleeding until we hold something on it,” Carol said after a while, already looking around to find something she could use. She finally saw the paper towel at a reaching distance, which she promptly grabbed to take a few from the roll. She took Natasha’s hand from the water and wrapped her finger with the paper towel, holding it tightly. “Come on, let’s make a bandage.”
“There’s no need for that,” Natasha stopped her before she could start pulling her towards the bathroom. “It will stop in a few minutes.”
“It could get infected,” the blonde argued.
Natasha looked at her with both brows raised high. “I thought you forgot how to take care of wounds.”
When Carol’s cheeks flushed a light shade of pink, Natasha just knew her answer would mean something. “I made some research,” she mumbled under her breath before giving Natasha’s arm a gentle pull. “Come on, let’s at least put a band-aid at it. Humor me,” she added when she noticed the other woman was about to deny it again.
It was perhaps the way her lips curled up again, but Natasha found herself agreeing with that even if she thought it was ridiculous. They walked to the bathroom where Carol grabbed the first aid kit that she knew was there, all while Natasha watched her moves carefully as if she was trying to understand something or crack one of the difficult codes she used to hack computers with. Carol tried not to pay attention to that while she grabbed something to clean the wound first.
“That’s the fourth time you bleed in my presence. I’m starting to pick up a pattern,” Carol joked to break the sudden heavy mood that fell on the room.
“Is that why you made research?” Natasha asked quickly.
Carol opened and closed her mouth a few times, clearly not sure how to respond to that, until she sighed and shrugged. She took the bloody paper towel from Natasha’s finger to put it under water again while she put the antiseptic on the cotton. “Well, I just thought it wouldn’t hurt to know a few things. I mean, I knew, I just had to remember. It has been a while since I needed stitches or a bandage.” She paused then, refusing to take her eyes away from the injured finger. “Humans are very… vulnerable.”
The last sentence was said in a whisper and Natasha wasn’t sure if she was supposed to hear that or not. She did, however, she had no idea how to reply to that. It wasn’t exactly what Carol said, but how she said it. Natasha knew from her late-night conversations with Carol over the chessboard that the blonde could only worry about the safety of her family while she was away in space, so she could assume that the superhero wasn’t talking only about herself getting constantly injured while Carol was around. Even so, it did seem like she was. Natasha averted looking at the other woman’s face when her stomach churned and it was only then that she realized Carol’s hands started to shake at some point.
“I’m going to be fine,” Natasha said. “It’s just a small cut, you know?”
When Carol looked up, Natasha offered her a smile that was equally reassuring and amused. The blonde held her breath for a second before she chuckled and turned to grab a band-aid. “Sorry. Guess I’m still a little shaken after taking you to the hospital,” she teased while placing the band-aid in the right place. “There you go. I’m not a doctor, but I think it’s safe to say you’re going to be just fine.”
“I told you so,” the Russian declared without removing her hand from Carol’s grasp. “You didn’t need to worry.”
“But I do.” Carol frowned and looked down. “I know you’re a very strong, capable woman that could probably kick my ass if you want to, but…”
Natasha waited for the rest of the sentence, but it never came. Instead, Carol brushed her finger over the band-aid. The shorter woman followed the movement with her eyes before she raised them to look at the woman standing in front of her. She wouldn’t be able to explain what possessed her to do it, but Natasha suddenly leaned forward. The tip of her nose brushed against Carol’s and she gave the woman enough time to stop her if she wished. Carol didn’t and she understood that as a sign that it was okay to keep going.
Their lips met in a soft touch that made Carol gasp. Natasha smiled into the kiss when she heard it and the smile quickly became a giggle, a sound that the redhead didn't make very often. Carol ended up laughing as well and their lips parted. Feeling giddy with the sudden feeling that rushed through her body, Natasha turned her head enough to rest her forehead against Carol’s shoulder. The blonde curled her strong arms around her waist, pulling their bodies closer, and Natasha felt the woman’s chest vibrate with another quiet laugh.
"It took you long enough to do that," Carol whispered.
Natasha felt her face heating up. "Why was I the one that needed to make a move, huh?"
"Because I didn't want to be punched in the face, that's why," the superhero replied.
Natasha sighed then and closed her eyes for a moment, trying to figure out everything that had happened, but her mind was immediately filled with doubts and fears. She couldn’t help but mumble: "What are we doing?"
Carol delicately nudged Natasha away so she could look at her face. It was either her bright eyes or the happy smile she was holding, but, whatever it was, Natasha felt some of her worries washing away. "Well, we were making dinner, remember? And I don't know about you, but I'm starving."
"You're right," Natasha replied with a smile of her own. "Let's go back."
They walked back to the kitchen silently. They weren't holding hands and they didn’t kiss again, however, Natasha felt like something major had changed between them. It didn't make her uncomfortable, not even when she noticed Carol stealing glances at her while they walked. It made her grin, though, and she tried to distract herself by picking up the knife on the counter again.
"No, no, no," Carol stopped her quickly, taking the knife from her hand and nudging her to the side. "You need to take care of that finger of yours. I can handle it."
Natasha arched one eyebrow at her and placed both hands on her waist. "Not to be a jerk, but I don't think you can."
Carol laughed loudly this time. "I can!" She insisted, nodding. "Just give me the instructions and I will make it work."
"Please, don't destroy our kitchen," Natasha pleaded as she took a step back. To be fair, she was sure they would end up eating instant noodles because Carol wouldn’t be able to make anything, but she thought it would at least be fun to watch.
So, getting ready for the show, Natasha placed both hands on the counter behind her and pushed herself up, sitting in the same place Carol was before. For the next hour or so, she explained step-by-step the recipe to the blonde all while trying to make sure the entire compound wouldn’t be blown away.
"Taste it," Carol asked, coming closer to her with a spoon in her hand, putting the other hand beneath to make sure it wouldn’t fall on the floor.
Natasha let the woman put the spoon inside her mouth and felt a blush rising from her neck when Carol placed a hand against her tight, watching her expectantly for the verdict. "This is not bad," the redhead declared after a few seconds. "But it needs more parsley," she added.
"On it!" Carol exclaimed, already meaning to turn around to chop more of the parsley that was left, but Natasha quickly stopped her by wrapping her legs around the woman’s hips. Carol froze for a second, wide eyes and open mouth. "Oh."
Natasha only smiled when she put her hand on the back of Carol's neck to lean her in for their second kiss. It lasted longer than the first one, enough so that Carol found a place standing between Natasha’s leg to stay while both of her hands rest on the woman’s thighs, at the same time her lips seemed to tingle in excitement. Natasha kept her hand on Carol’s neck and her other arm thrown over her shoulder lazily, but her ankles crossed behind the blonde and her heart was beating way faster than it should be.
Now, Natasha wasn’t the romantic type. She didn’t believe in the type of love that could move mountains and oceans. Neither did she believe in kisses that made someone see stars behind her eyes. She did, however, felt her entire body buzz with something while her lips danced with Carol’s, the shiver that ran down her spine when their tongues met and the warmth getting lower into her body as Carol’s hands started moving forward.
It made Natasha think why on Earth it took so long for that to happen. She couldn’t remember why she had tried to keep her distance from Carol, why she was scared to feel anything when she saw the woman laughing across the chessboard, why she was trying to run away. It was hard to remember any of that when, at that moment, all she wanted was to get closer. Closer and closer and closer.
The tip of Carol’s hands had just touched the inside of her thigh when Steve’s deep voice was heard all across the compound and the two of them jumped apart so fast that it was like they burned each other. Natasha jumped from the counter while rubbing at her lips with the back of her hand, even if Carol wasn’t wearing any lipstick for it to be smeared all over her face. She didn’t allow the blonde to say anything, though, because she turned around and left the kitchen so fast that she nearly bumped into Bruce on her way out.
[...]
It was a bad idea.
Terrible.
She made a list, which sounded a bit idiotic of her, but it helped her to think more clearly.
Well, it became quite clear that it was a terrible idea.
For one, Carol traveled a lot. Which, okay, fair, it was a stupid reason because all of them traveled a lot, to be fair, but they traveled on Earth. Carol took her spaceship - or whatever she wanted to call it - and she flew across the galaxy jumping from one planet to another. She had been doing that for decades. She was barely on Earth at all, which made her constant presence at the compound the last months ever weirder, but that part didn’t make it to the final list.
Carol was also old. Well, that wasn’t the problem per se because Carol didn’t look a day older than thirty, and that was the thing. Carol wasn’t a normal human, not anymore. She didn’t age like everyone else. It would come a time when Carol would still be young and energetic while all of them - except for Thor - would be all wrinkled and grumpy.
And, fine, those were the only things Natasha could think to put on the cons list, but they were big deals. Huge, she reasoned with herself. Which meant that she ignored Carol for the next two days like she had an alien plague or something. She moved out of the way, she avoided being in the same room as her, she stayed more time inside her room and she didn’t wander into the training room because she knew that’s where Carol spent most of her days. Instead, Natasha locked herself inside the computers room with Tony and tried to think about anything else.
It, of course, didn’t explain why, on the third day, she found herself walking angrily toward an oblivious Carol standing across the yard while putting a few things inside her ship.
“What are you doing?!” Natasha exclaimed, still several feet away, which made the other woman jump a bit in surprise.
“Uh-” Carol looked around in confusion as she watched the shorter woman striking at her like a very, very, very, angry train. “Putting clean socks inside the-”
“Why?” Natasha interrupted her as she finally stopped in front of the woman.
Carol glanced at her, then back to the socks she had in her hands, before setting on Natasha again. “Because all the other ones are dirty?”
Natasha huffed. “So, you’re leaving?”
“Well, I suppose,” the blonde answered hesitantly.
“That’s great,” the Russian sarcastically scoffed. “That’s exactly what I was avoiding before.”
“What?”
“This!” She motioned with her hands at Carol. “All of this!”
Carol looked down at herself in such an innocent way that Natasha felt her heart pang inside her chest. When she looked up again, Carol had a frown and clear confusion written all over her face. “I’m sorry, Nat. I don’t understand.”
“You’re leaving.” Natasha very suddenly lost all fight inside herself. Her shoulders dropped, as did her voice, and she looked up at Carol so lost that the blonde took a step toward her. “You’re leaving,” she repeated in a whisper.
“I thought that’s what you wanted,” Carol confessed equally quietly.
“Why would I want that?”
“Because you have been avoiding me for days now.” The superhero raised one eyebrow in questioning. “I thought you wanted me to be gone.”
Natasha sighed heavily and raised her hands to grab a handful of Carol’s suit. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to push the woman away or pull her close, and, in the end, she did both. “I don’t want that.”
“What do you want, then?” She didn’t get a reply. All the redhead did was shake her head and look down, which made Carol take a deep breath before gently placing her fingers under Natasha’s chin to make her look back up. “Nat…”
“I can’t ask you to stay,” the woman admitted with sorrow clear in her voice. It made Carol’s heart break into small little pieces. “I can’t ask that from you. It would be selfish of me, because you love the space. You’re the Space Cadet.” She said the last line with a small smile.
“I can’t ask you to go with me,” Carol replied. “Your family is here.”
“But do you?” Natasha looked up with her eyes shining with what appeared to be tears she refused to drop. “Do you want to ask me to go with you?”
Carol nodded without having to think about it first. “I wouldn’t want anything else,” she declared. “I stayed here because I didn’t want to stay away from you.”
“Why?”
This time, Carol smiled. “Is it too hard for you to believe I just wanted to?”
Natasha sighed and shook her head in exasperation. “Yes because the most exciting things around the last months were you keeping me from bleeding around.”
“You are very frail, you know?” The blonde whispered after a pause and her hand raised to rub at the scar left on Natasha’s shoulder. “You’re powerful and dangerous, but you’re also human. I’m afraid something will happen to you and that I won’t be able to do a single thing about that.”
Maybe that’s what was on Carol’s list, Natasha thought to herself. It made her think if Carol even thought this through before deciding she wanted to spend more time with Natasha because that lead both of them with a lot to lose and not much to be done about it.
“In our world,” Natasha started after she looked too long into Carol’s eyes, “where anything can happen at any time, I think we should all live our lives to the best of it.” She paused to let her words sink in, but also because she was repeating those words inside her head over and over again. “I won’t ask you to stay,” she repeated.
“That’s okay,” Carol replied quietly. “You don’t have to. I’m offering to.”
“And, just so you know, I’m not usually that clumsy.”
Carol chuckled now, curling her arms around Natasha’s waist without a care as to who might see them. “That's a relief to hear, actually. If we’re making confessions, you should know I snore.”
Natasha’s laugh filled the space around them and Carol was sure she made the right decision.
