The discussion around the fandomization of the I/P conflict is so fucking relevant because why did I just see someone in a discord for a reaction channel that reacts to musicals and cartoons suggest them to react to the Columbia ""protests"" with a heart emoji as if it's another episode of their favorite show and SIX other people agreed with that

feels really weird to see friends who, to the best of my knowledge, have absolutely no connection to judaism post about jewish holidays as a gotcha? I saw a gentile friend repost a "happy tu bishvat from the U.S. to Palest¡ne" graphic (from j.v.p. bc ofc) and I was just like. 1. have you heard of this holiday before today? and 2. say that name for me. go ahead and pronounce that. also for good measure 3. Palest¡ne is.... pretty specifically not a place where jews live

Let's be positive a bit today:
Boker tov!
Let us greet the day being thankful for having another day to try to make the world a better place, even if it is just for one person.
Try to help someone today, make someone smile, you may not change the entire world, but you can brighten theirs.
With love,

Here’s a bit of an ✨introduction✨ to me, myself, and I.
I go by Joy and she/her pronouns :)
I’m a 19 year old college student that started my conversion process in October 2023, which has been.. it’s been something. But I’m happy to be here.
I was raised very fundamentally catholic by my family. If they find out, I’m getting kicked out of the family and financially cut off. So that’s going to inform how much I’ll be able to practice while at home with them.
I considered converting to Judaism for 6 years, and very seriously for 2 years, so this isn’t a sudden thing.
In the total of the two months I’ve been involved in the Jewish community, I’ve had around 6 antisemitic incidents happen to me. 2 happened on a group basis, 4 individually. This isn’t to say “woe is me” or whatever, but I just want to illustrate how insidious and prevalent antisemitism is. It’s where even being slightly associated with Jewishness leads to such outright scorn.
I have no tolerance for Jewish hate, tokenization, or any discrediting of the community.
I observe Shabbat, keep kosher, and am currently working on conversion with a conservative rabbi. We’ll see where that goes: it’s all about the journey.
I know a lot of niche information about Judaism but not a lot about basic things. It’s like knowing the steps to calculus but not knowing simple multiplication. So I feel very disjointed as I play catch-up. But that just makes it more fun to start piecing things together.
If I get any information wrong, please let me know. I’m obviously new to this and I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and I hope you have a lovely day.

There is nothing to say, or rather there is far too much to say and I cannot find the words to say any of it.
But I will say, briefly, because there is a possibility this may actually be a useful reminder for someone: if you have Jewish friends — or others who may be being affected by what is happening in Israel — please consider reaching out and checking in to see how they're doing.
It can feel awkward, I know. I am, myself, The Worst at reaching out. Sometimes you don't know what to say. (Literally something as simple as "Just wanted to check in to see how you're doing" can mean a lot.) Or you don't want to bring uo upsetting topics. (We're already upset, I assure you, it won't be your fault.) Or you don't want to pressure them to correspond at a time when they're already potentially overwhelmed. (That's a very thoughtful concern... and you can tell them exactly that.)
Please reach out anyway. Let the people in your life know that you're there, that you care, that you are if nothing else aware.
Because it's hard, when your world has been shaken, and your loved ones are in danger or in mourning, and the people all around you are apparently living in a completely different world where nothing at all has happened.

P.S. Ever heard of "Amin Al-Husseini"? He was the guy who INTRODUCED Nazism into the Middle East via his alliance with Hitler. They were close colleagues.
I linked the guys Wiki since that's the ONLY thing you kids read these days.

Well, I gave in and made a jumblr sideblog. I promise I am a real person. You can call me Shira, if you need to refer to me a by a name.
It's certainly an interesting time to be a Jew in college. I will be talking about Israel, protests on campus, and general antisemitism. I will also be spreading Jewish joy and sharing fun Jewish moments in my life.
Before you ask, I support peaceful coexistence of Israelis and Palestinians in a two-state solution. I am not a military expert, but I am more than happy to answer genuine educational questions. I believe that much of the issue in the US is our collective inability to have civil dialogue about this issue.
I have one overarching rule: Everyone is welcome here, so long as they acknowledge that I am a human being deserving of respect, even if you vehemently disagree with me. I guarantee everyone else that same basic understanding of humanity. Any disrespect will be blocked.
accessibility notes:
I do not have the spoons to add image descriptions to every post, but any image that I upload will have a short description in the alt text. [header image: multicolored stained glass window; profile: purple "hedgehog" flower in Israel].
If you want me to trigger tag something, please message me.

in class today we were discussing sukkot and the requirements for a kosher etrog, and the rabbi just went "the pitom is—well it kind of looks like a foreskin. so let's say that if it's circumcised, it's not kosher" and i can't believe we all managed to hold it together and not cry laughing
