Happy birthday to my beautiful boy Hellendil! It took me a year to finish this little reply to @ask-elland-n-will's invite for a butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks, but it's finally ready to post.

@ask-sebastian, I hope you don't mind me borrowing your Seb for this! ❤️ One of these days I need to get everyone's MCs made so I can really torture my PC and they can all hang out there together.

[Polyjuice Swap 2024!]

[William drank the wrong Polyjuice Potion: is there any doubt whose fur got into his vial?

Context: some Polyjuice Potions (sponsored by an organisation wishing to remain anonymous) have been specially produced for this Halloween party. They are meant to be swapped between students in secret to allow for fun interactions and "who are you"s. The rule of fun for bending the rules is allowed: long duration, change of clothes, transformations that are not normally possible with Polyjuice, and so on.]

William was really excited about this event as he was one of the people in charge of it, just like the year prior (as much as Cassandra claims it to be her idea). Potions allowing the user to change into some spooky creatures in spirit of the Halloween were a success back then, especially for those who didn't have a costume. Everyone from sandy mummies to cats with pretty bows roamed the ballroom (and some — wreaked havoc).

Changing into their classmates was not the aspect they'd considered until this year, and the permission to do it officially took Will a lot of time and effort. The prefects had to make sure that no transformed student left the designated area, that only the 7th-years took the polyjuice vials, and that the potions themselves were acquired from a reputable source.

William expected some cheating to occur, but not that it would affect him personally. And yet.

He took the vial he was given with excitement. Who would he become! Who else is participating! What is the pool of students he's picking from! William spent a few days looking through his archives, trying to recall his friends' mannerisms and speech patterns, obvious ticks and smaller details, typical topics of conversations, and so on. He was so prepared to play his role that—

— that when he watched in horror as teal fur started growing all over his face, as he felt the same hairy needles spread over the rest of his body, as sharp claws replaced his carefully manicured fingers (at least it didn't spread to his feet?), and as his lips— Merlin, he no longer had the lips, he had a beak! When all of that looked back at him in the mirror, all hope for a fun evening was lost.

MCtober 2024

Week 1 - Introduce your MC

Meet Hellendil Melinae! He was sorted into Ravenclaw on account of his intelligence, curiosity, desire to learn and openness/acceptance of others, though he also has a fair bit of Hufflepuff traits as well and occasionally sulks about not being sorted into Slytherin. He is 5th year in game and ficwise, but 7th year for RP purposes.

Favorite subject

Hellendil's favorite classes are Potions and Care of Magical Creatures. He finds peace in the focus needed for the careful measuring and preparation of ingredients in potion making, but also enjoys looking for said ingredients when he's out exploring the Highlands. Magical Creatures were something Hellendil had little experience with before Hogwarts since he came from a mixed family, but he always enjoyed them in the picture books his grandmother would read to him as a child. Being able to interact with them and care for them brings him joy and brings back those cherished memories.

Least favorite subject

His least favorite classes are Divination and Arithmancy. He's super skeptical about any of it actually meaning anything, no matter how fun it is to look for shapes in his tea leaves. He drops Divination after fifth year, but continues with Arithmancy just in case his chosen career path doesn't pan out.

Favorite teacher

Even though charms isn't his favorite class at Hogwarts (he really enjoys most), Professor Ronen is definitely one of Hellendil's favorite teachers. His way of teaching makes the class fun for just about everyone and it was a great introduction to classes on his first day. Professor Ronen is one of the professors Hellendil feels most comfortable confiding in and consulting for guidance.

School Clubs and Hobbies

Hellendil joined Crossed Wands at the behest of Professor Hecat. He's not normally very competitive, but he keeps at it because his friends are involved and he enjoys spending the time with them. Being a big reader he also decides to start a muggle literature club with his friends so he can share his favorite novels and penny dreadfuls with them as well as read theirs.

In addition to reading as a hobby, Hellendil also enjoys being physically active and exploring the Highlands in his free time. Care of Magical Creatures isn't just a class for him, it's also something he just enjoys doing, especially caring for his thestral, Sepulchria. He spends a lot of time in the vivarium with her and the other thestrals, brushing them and watching them play. He's known to hang out and help his friends with taking care of their creature companions as well.

MY OC'S INNER THOUGHTS ABOUT YOUR OC:

Eve Makaroff // HUFFLEPUFF

Oh, boy, I am sorry but Eva would DEFINETLY have a crush on Hellendil. When she was younger, her mother taught her english language by reading her the fantasy tales from the old Europe. So when she saw Hellendil for the first time, he reminded her of an elven prince!

Of course, Hellendil's outgoing and friendly nature didn't help in this at all. She thought to herself: "How come most of my friends from Ravenclaw are so precious and sympathetic?". Eva would absolutely adore their friendship. It seemed to her like that beautiful Ravenclaw boy could read her thoughts! Always hugging her when she needed, always saying the right words

Eva also loved the fact that Hellendil likes Care of Magical Creatures classes as much as her. In her mind caring for the creatures couldn't protect themselves is basically a trait that everyone should have. So Hellendil being one of those people definitely made Eve think of him highly.

Vanessa Nott // SLYTHERIN

Though being raised in a pureblood family - Nessa never had any presumptions about "blood". Most of her friends were half-bloods. The things she really admired were wit and intelligence. When Hellendil bested her in potions-making? She was so annoyed, yet… also very competitive about it. Overall, she had been very impressed with his skill and it motivated her to get better too. (Oh these clever Ravenclaws will be the death of her!)

Vanessa wasn't really interested in men, but she could admire one's style. She thought: "He dresses REALLY good. Like too good!"

Of course, Hellendil was Natty's, Lydia's (@esolean) and Ren (@localravenclaw) friend! And these girls were really important to Vanessa. She wouldn't admit, that she got jealous but… she got. Especially after the troll fight? How wasn't she with him and Natsai?

When the slytherin girl had the chance to know Hellendil better - she understood that they better be friends. There was absolutely no real reason for being over-protective of her girls. Perhaps, the competitiveness runs in the house? Hellendil ended up being a good friend of Vanessa and she loved the fact that Hellendil was so caring to her and her friends :)

You could already hear the noise outside the closed door. And it got louder with every second. A melodic song made of "mäh".

Gwen stood in the middle of your dorm room and was clearly having fun turning every chair, box or cushion into a sheep.

She froze in mid-motion as she was about to transform @ask-andrew-larson pillow. The little Hufflepuff looked up at Felix. Stared at him for a second or two before her lips curled into a devilish grin.

"Crinitus ovium transformatio" and your bed became a white sheep with a fur like a cloud.

"TEAM FLUFFY SHEEP!!!" she shouted and ran out of the room laughing like a villain.

Vid Odens skägg! Felix stood in the doorway, holding his head in disbelief, too flabbergasted to run after Gwen as she dashed out. Her cheeky grin lingered in his mind as he struggled to make sense of the madness.

How did she… Almost every piece of furniture was now a fluffy, woolen version of its former self. Why would she…?! 'Team Fluffy Sheep'? No, pondering the motives of a prankster wasn't the priority at the moment, especially one as unpredictable as the little Hufflepuff. Felix let out a deep sigh, resigning himself to the chaos. Transfiguration. Of course, it had to be Transfiguration—the one subject he struggled with the most. The subject really wasn't one of his strongest talents, and Gwen had certainly outdone herself this time.

Felix' thoughts were interrupted when he noticed one sheep chewing on the seam of his cloak. Great. Alsius' chair had also fallen victim to Gwen's antics. Rolling up his sleeves, Felix set to work, determined to undo his friend's shenanigan.

The Ravenclaw managed to return small things such as books, trophies, and hourglasses back to their normal state with relative ease. However, the larger furniture proved to be more stubborn, and the sheep seemed to grow anxious. With a furrowed brow, Felix focused on Andrew's favourite pillow next, but his spell failed miserably. The lamb transformed into a bizarre hybrid creature with with the body of cushion and the head and feet of a lamb. And it seemed to have had enough.

The creature stared back at him, and with a sudden leap, it made a dash for the door. Cursing under his breath, Felix lunged after it, only to find himself flat on his stomach. The door swung open with a thud as the pillow-lamb made a break for it, leaping into the common room, leaving chaos in its wake. With adrenaline coursing through his veins, Felix scrambled to his feet, shouting at his friends, "Monty! Hellendil! Grab that sheep! The pillow!"

Being a night owl himself, Hellendil could never pass up a sleepover invitation. He's taken this chance to share some sweets from home with his classmates and snuck onto the kitchens to make and bring some Welsh Cakes! He hopes someone remembered to bring tea.

William does not spend much time relaxing after the Hippogriff flight with Hellendil. They came to the top of the Ravenclaw tower for a reason: to make sure that the Slytherin is all caught up with the studies he missed out on due to the pickle incident. As stunning as the view is, it doesn't take them long to transfigure one of the benches into a table and create an impromptu studying place.

It takes a lot of willpower for William not to get distracted by his friend's presence beside him. It still feels rather surreal, the fact that his flirting worked. Hellendil has never acted on things like that. Perhaps the Hospital Wing visits changed both of their perspective on how fleeting those things can be? Will's face flushed a little every time their hands bumped against each other while pointing something out in the book or reaching for the quill. Such a simple touch, and yet before today it has never even crossed his mind that there can be more meaning hidden behind it.

Ah, Will, don't think about that now, focus! What are the similarities and differences between the Goblin Rebellions of 1612 and 1752? Why cannot Spellotapes repair broken wands and why is it better to buy a new wand? What is more effective at allowing a wizard to spend time underwater: eating Gillyweed or drinking a Gillyweed Tonic?

Somewhere between it all Will manages to magic a tea set out of his pouch and make some tea for Hellendil and himself. The surrounding area is already lit up with soft red and oranges of the setting sun and Will finds himself drifting away. Perhaps that's enough of studying for today. The next time their hands touch, Will turns his palm up and intertwines their fingers. The little snake turns towards Hellendil with a soft smile and closes the book.

"More tea? I think the sun is about to touch the horizon."

Hellendil is my primary MC in Hogwarts Legacy. I have been writing and developing him since long before the game was released, but he's become so much more because of this game and lovely community. Thank you guys for accepting him and making us feel loved and welcome!

A tall brunet approaches you slowly, a soft, disarming smile on his face.  You recognize him from several classes you share and remember seeing him often in the dorms, reading, studying or entertaining the various pets owned by other Ravenclaw students.  You recall his name is Hellendil.

“Hello, Andrew!”  He sweeps into a bow, braid sliding down over his shoulder.  Straightening, he continues, “I'm terribly sorry I haven't gotten to know you better since I came to Hogwarts, but I wanted to remedy that by saying hello and offering you a little treat for the holiday.”  He holds out his hands to reveal several delicious looking, hand pulled candy canes.  “Just a little something.  I hope you enjoy them!  Merry Christmas, Andrew!”

*The first thought that entered Andrew’s head was how remarkably tall Hellendil was up close. He knew, of course, with Hellendil being closest to Felix’s height in their House. Temporarily transfixed as he gazed up, Andrew was slightly taken aback when Hellendil held out the candy canes. For him? His eyes rounded in astonishment.*

For me? T-thank you! I- 

*His hands flew to his mouth, and he gasped in dismay. He hadn’t prepared anything in retu- wait! At the risk of leaving Hellendil bewildered, Andrew motioned with a hand and then hastily dashed down the steps to his room, shouting backwards at the same time.* 

Please wait!

*Thankfully, Andrew had baked a batch of mince pies that morning as a surprise for his mother when they were due home that evening. His mother would be pleased to hear that Andrew had friends to share it with, he told himself, as he grabbed the small box sitting on top of his trunk. 

Hurrying back out to the domed enclave where he left Hellendil standing, he pressed the box into the other Ravenclaw’s hands and accepted the candy canes in turn.*

Happy Christmas, Hellendil! I hope you like mince pies. And icing sugar. I was rather generous with my sprinkling. *Andrew’s cheeks coloured slightly, but he beamed happily up at Hellendil all the same.*

You hear a gentle rap at the door of your dorm room and open it to see Hellendil's smiling face.  “Good afternoon, my birthday twin!  I trust you're doing well?  I just stopped by to share some of my haul with you!”  He holds up a tumbler ringed with hand pulled candy canes.  “I was even able to procure a few lemon flavored for you, they have the yellow stripes.  Take some for Alsius, too.  I didn't want to disturb him while he works and I know I can trust you to get them to him.  Merry Christmas, my friend!”

Felix' eyes lit up with joy as he greeted Hellendil, unable to hold back a grin at the sight of his friend's infectious smile. "Good afternoon, Hellendil! You always know how to brighten up a day," Felix replied warmly. His eyes lit up as the fellow Ravenclaw mentioned the lemon-flavoured candy canes, knowing that @ask-alsius-vafer would appreciate the thoughtful gesture.

"Thank you so much, Hellendil. Als will love these. I made sure to share them with him when he took a break from his work," Felix chuckled, reaching out to take a handful of the lemony delights, admiring their vibrant yellow stripes.

Felix' eyes lit up as he remembered the surprise he had prepared for his friend. "Wait a moment, I have something for you as well! Just a moment!" He disappeared briefly into his dorm room, returning with a small, beautifully wrapped box adorned with a ribbon.

"God Jul, Hellendil!" Felix said, presenting the gift with a warm smile. "I hoped you liked it."

[Inside the box was a delicate snow globe with two miniature Thestrals who galloped gracefully through a snowy landscape.]
