A fun lil fact about Sunny Side Up: I was trying vv hard to give lil Lup Hints throughout the fic without being super duper obvious. Some of them are vv,,, grasping at straws, but it was fun nonetheless sldkfsd Most ppl have figured out this line-

“For you?” Tía asked. “You mean I have to share these three helpings of huevos rancheros instead of eating them all by myself?”

-bc obviously, Taako and his Tía are only two ppl. But here are some more!!

When they weren’t cooking or practicing magic, Tía would sit with him and teach him how to wind up her hair in intricate styles

As someone who hc's Taako with (pretty) short hair, this line was also a reference to Lup. Namely, because I imagine Lup would have liked to grow her hair out, but neither of them had anywhere to learn how to put it up beside a regular ponytail.

The worst part was just that he was alone.

Obviously, all mentions of Taako being alone is a somewhat indirect references to Lup, but this is one of the first major ones that pop up. And this one, too, ofc-

Taako needed someone on his side. Fame might be all he ever wanted, but it was isolating all the same. Now, more than ever before.

I think a Lot about if Lup had actually been able to be with Taako during the redaction and how that would change him/how he acts. I always try to make it very obvious that Taako is yearning for something, but he cannot physically know what. Having a bodyguard is a smart move, but I don't think Taako would have ever considered it if he hadn't felt so alone.

The "now, more than ever before" is a very direct reference to the redaction, because before, even in his fake memories, there was/always will be a sense of... not complete loneliness. Because Lucretia can erase Lup, and take her out of the memories, but she can't change how Taako feels in those memories. It only changes how he looks back on them.

Before Sazed, it was the first time Taako had truly ever been alone.

He had almost forgotten how awful it was out on the road.

This one, also, is a very indirect reference to Lup, for the same reasons as above. It wasn't that bad before because it wasn't like that before.

I think that's all :O there's more in the subtext, I'm sure, but all of these are at least intentional sdlfsfd

Where does Taako's surname come from in the Broken Engagement AU?

It comes from one of my very favorite taz fics of all time which is Bureau of Badass by @bureauofbadass on tumblr and Chemicallywrit and miceenscene on Ao3. I’ve always loved it and I needed a last name that Kravitz maybe wouldn’t have recognized. It’s been in my head for modern!au iterations of Taako for a while now, so it was nice to be able to incorporate it.

“The Family We Build in the Meantime” by chaWOOPa is one of my favorites - it’s a two part fic and beware, there seems to have been a formatting error in uploading it, because Part 2 actually comes before Part 1, so like. Keep that in mind. You gotta read it “out of order” to get the story in the right order. But it’s a real quick read that packs a lot of emotions into it, where Taako is Angus’ dad and raises him and it’s precious.

Writing fic for something where you haven’t engaged with the original content in a while is weird, because you’ll have moments like “wait didn’t this character lose their leg in this battle? Why can’t I remember?” And then you realize no, that was just a really good fic you read too many times and apparently you forgot it wasn’t canon, the character’s leg is fine actually.

Godddd, good question. The first one that came to mind was probably Taako? But I can't recall any struggles off the top of my head, so I'm gonna go with Lucretia instead. I'm still writing a very Lucretia-and-Merle-centric wip and it's been a Rough Time. i know how i want her to be and how she's supposed to Sound but translating pre-cycle 65 to post-cycle 65 lucretia can be tough!

I would love to hear about the Kravitz training fic as well as the Lucretia can't get out of bed fic.

the kravitz one is primarily kravitz being a huge nerd who needs more friends and not hiding it very well sldfsd. i like the hc that he's literally The Only Reaper before lup and barry and thus doesn't really interact with anybody besides death criminals and Literally Gods every day. talking and dating taako has for sure helped his social skill but to be completely honest, taako is not the best person to relearn ur social skills from sldkfsd. it's about!! him and lup n barry actually growing closer as friends and moving past their weird "you're a lich and im dating ur brother" awkwardness.

a baby snippet:

To be completely honest, Kravitz was both terrified and thrilled to be training Lup and Barry. He had been the only reaper for- what? Over six hundred years now, at least. He had colleagues now. Well, he was technically their boss, but same difference, right? Same difference. They could split up their workload. He could show them the ropes. Kravitz hasn’t been able to show anyone the ropes, ever. He’s nervous. He’s excited. He’s like, ten percent scared of both of them.

They had both been able to keep a stable form as a lich for over twenty years now. That was as impressive as it was horrifying. Granted, they weren’t liches the whole time. Barry definitely hadn’t been and Kravitz didn’t exactly know how Lup’s whole umbrella situation worked, but it didn’t sound great.

Point being: Kravitz had to train them. And now that Lup had her body back, it was prime time.

and the lucretia one! chronic pain lucretia my BELOVED!! this one is primarily about 1) chronic pain, 2) trauma, 3) luce relearning how to trust her family bc she might have been the only one to keep her memories but she fuckin forgot how to trust ppl!! for good reasons, i guess. it's a lot of her trying to hide her pain/things she lost in wonderland/just the emotional mess she is while also trying to run the newly reformed B.O.B smoothly.

another lil snippet :O :

There’s something to be said about the fact that Lucretia does not want to get out of bed. There was something to be said about the way her joints ached and her muscles grumbled. There was something to be said about the way her hand hurts when she lifts it up, barely high enough to cast a spell to close the curtains (because, yes, she’s burning a spell slot on that). There’s something to be said about the twinge of pain when she sets her hand back down, or the relief when she finally doesn’t have the sun in her eyes anymore.

The thing to be said about it: Fuck. Fuck, shit, piss, damn. This was terrible. She felt like shit.

Still, she had things to do. Places to be. Meetings to… meet. Notes to… note?

Gods, fuck, okay. She had to get up.

She… didn’t.

The idea of moving, of getting out of bed, putting weight on her already aching feet, using throbbing arms to do… arm things. It felt impossible. She had painkillers in the bathroom, but the bathroom was so far away. Lucretia groaned, peeking out from under her blanket to look across the room. The door to the hallway stood ajar- she could see further, to where the bathroom entrance was. It was just a matter of getting there.

She’d like to say she wasn’t startled when her stone of farspeech went off, but, alas, she couldn’t. To be fair, she had been so deeply mesmerized in the growing distance from her bed to the bathroom that she didn’t see that the stone had lit up until it was ringing.

“Would you ever wanna get married?”

It came out quietly, softly, as if Taako had been afraid to say it. Kravitz only knew he had spoken at all because the pattern of breathing against his collarbone had shifted and Taako’s jaw moved against the skin of his chest. Kravitz’s breath caught in his throat slightly, the hand that was rubbing circles into Taako’s back stilling.

“What was that?” he asked, just to be sure.

“Don’t make me say it again,” Taako mumbled, burying his head deeper into Kravitz’s neck. He repeated, anyway, “wanna get married?”

“Taako, I,” Kravitz started. He opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to think of what to say. But Taako shook his head, pushing himself away. He scrubbed his face with his hands.

“Sorry, sorry, it was-” he gave a weak chuckle and Kravitz sat up as he scooted a few inches back on the bed. “I mean, like- uh, I’m joking? Yeah. Obviously. Haha, goofed ya, babe, can we just-”

“Taako,” Kravitz said, catching his hand. Taako shut his mouth tightly. “Not everything has to be a joke. We can- of course, I wanna marry you, love, I- of course, I would. You don’t have to be scared of asking.”

“You’re gonna get sick of me one day,” Taako said.

“Never,” Kravitz promised. He brought Taako’s hand up to his mouth, kissing the knuckles. Taako let out a deep sigh. “Never ever, baby, I promise.”
