Why Ghostfuckers is the best HB episode (without Mammon in it)

So, yeah, a lot of shit came out on Halloween and it took me a week to fully process Ghostfuckers in particular and post about it, but holy fuck it's so good.

First off, an unambiguous Millie episode, and not just that, but one that helped me realize what Viv meant when she described Millie, her character is defined by her lack of major traumas, which somewhat isolates her from the rest of IMP. Along with adding another layer to Blitz's traumas and his understanding of them.

The animation this episode was genuinely phenomenal, the scene with all the dead callback Millies was particularly amazing.

Despite being one of the show's very few (if not first) truly one off villains, Rolando was amazing not just as a villain but also as a source of world building. John Waters performance was delightfully dark and all of the character's animation sold the whole thing, especially when in his ink form. (On a side note, I headcanon his last name as Brines for obvious reasons)

In addition to this, there was also so much good comedy here, both visual and in dialogue, plus the whole episode is a lowkey Scooby-Doo shoutout, which is amazing. The opening and closing segments with Loona and Moxxie were also more than welcome

The way Blitz can't even enjoy or find comfort in the group hug from his found family after just having escaped execution, because all he can think about is how Stolas is in there about to die for him and he can't do anything about it.

It's actually worse. Blitz's reaction is angry but mostly confused, as in he doesn't realize how Mammon can have such a lack of self awareness.

Whether the writers wanted it to or not, the show has taken the stance of: "Fat shaming is ok, so long as the person you're fat shaming is fatter than you." And I really hope I don't have to explain why that's awful.

Bee is really the most evil, when you think about it - written by a Mammon kinnie

Now, I know this is gonna read like me being a Mammon apologist (because I am) but this is something I've been meaning to bring to light for a while now. I believe that Beelzebub is the most evil Sin, at least of the ones we've seen so far.

Bee might seem very approachable and friendly, but this is exactly what makes that much worse than she otherwise would be.

The main thing here is the hellhound pound system, which is, at least in my eyes, the most horrific piece of worldbuilding we've gotten in the series. An entire sentient species being treated like pets and kept in squalled conditions within a framework created and overseen by their ruler and likely creator, someone who is for all intents and purposes, their god.

Thought not confirmed, it's implied hounds that age out of the system are just straight up euthanized. Again, this has yet to be confirmed, but it definitely doesn't help Beelze's case.

And what exactly becomes of Gluttony-born hellhounds who survive the pounds and get adopted? Why their love bombed with parties where their "benevolent" mistress uses their positive emotions to make a substance that can form dependency in demons the way alcohol can in humans just so she's even better off. Either that or they end up adopted by someone who just uses them as expendable muscle.

At this point I'm sure someone is saying that Mammon is still worse, and they'll likely point to the general state of Greed, being a polluted over-industrialized mess. But this just raises another point in my favor.

Unlike Mammon, who's upfront about only caring about his citizens' money, Bee puts on the persona of being a ruler of the people, not above them. She makes Gluttony seem so idyllic while also basing a contender for Hell's most deplorable enterprise out of it.

Beelzebub is such an adept manipulator that she gets Loona to come out of her shell, when Loona's closed of nature was spawned from her trauma that Bee's pounds are responsible for in the first place! For all we know, this also applies to Vortex, I mean, something had to blind him in one eye, perhaps a fight with a former cellmate?

And worst of all, she herself doesn't seem consciously aware of it, she may genuinely see nothing wrong with the conditions her subjects live in, likely because she judges their quality of life based on their "vibes" at her parties.

I just want to end this saying that I don't hate Bee, nor do I think Vivienne intended for people to infer these things, knowing her, it's likely she just didn't fully consider the implications while writing. But it is still a valid interpretation of Beelzebub's character based on what we presently know about her.

There are a few things I wanna talk about in the newest helluva episode Mastermind, but firstly...

Im gonna throw myself off of a cliff this is so sweet... holy sh*t.

Now onto to the painful stuff...

Loona getting myzzled and staying that way the whole trial is the most ef'd thing for the whole episode. Talk about disrespectful, if Blitz had died she wouldn't have been able to say she loved him.

Then there's this whole scene that was extremely painful to watch. Both Loona and Moxxie are looking away as Blitz is about to be executed so he's only able to make eye contact and feel comfortable in his final moment by Millie. She's the only one who doesn't look aways even though he is her best friend and it must be unbearable.

THISSS MAKES ME ANGRY!!!!! It's on site when I see Stella again, talk about emotional abuse.

Then there's the stuff after the trial that just breaks my heart into a million pieces.

Let's talk about how stolas despite clearly still being angry is willing to die for blitz, only at the end of the episode to tell him "always" as if the decision wasn't difficult. It was.

There there's the look he gives to Blitz and Loona when they hug, and she says she loves him. There must be sooo many thoughts running through stolas's brain. He's thinking about how Blitz almost lost this, about how imp really is his family, he's probably thinking about his own daughter, and he probably thinks this is all his fault.

It's going to be devastating to see the low stolas is going be at both literally and emotionally.

blitz lost his mother and was kicked out of the family at 20, while fizz became a quadriplegic cyborg!

millie and moxxie met at 25, got married within a year, and are now expecting a baby!

Loona is 22 and spent her first 18 years living in a literal kennel!

these are characters who have only begun their lives!!!!
