summary: wanda tries to mend what was broken
a/n: here is the last installment of my first story, breakfast birthday goodbye! thank you all so much for the support youâve shown the first two parts as well as the hcâs! it means the world to meeeeeee i love u guys soooo much!
minors do not interact
wanda never meant for everything to go down the way it did. scratch that, she never wanted any of this to happen. the ignored calls, the short texts, you avoiding her at your groupâs weekly dinner.
she didnât want that at all, and it was eating at her insides knowing that you are out there somewhere thinking that she wanted nothing to do with you, that she wasnât serious about you.
it was the exact opposite, actually. you never leave her mind and she often finds herself texting you with random updates throughout her day just so she can end up calling you and hearing about whatever you have to say.
but now itâs been a week since the party and youâve yet to actually have a full conversation with her. you donât text her, only replying to her with a short and simple response when she sends you a message first.
sheâs lost countless hours of sleep and finds it hard to make herself eat normal meals. the bags under her eyes have darkened and sheâs become a hollow shell of herself, one she canât even recognize in the mirror. everyoneâs noticed it too, and itâs getting hard to ignore.
wanda prides herself on her incredible work ethic and her ability to do her job well beyond expectations, but for the past week even her team at work has noticed that sheâs been off her a-game.
wanda hasnât slept, and you could tell. sheâs avoided every every attempt to rest or eat. only throwing herself into her work, which was futile because in the back of her mind was you. the ache of losing you and know you were out there hating her.
itâs gotten to the point where her boss has offered her to take the rest of the week off to recuperate over whatever happened that pushed her down. bad thing is, wanda said no and now sheâs stuck thinking about you at her desk.
she turned down the offer, ignoring how badly her body is begging her to take the rest. work is the only thing keeping her mind off of youâ or at least trying to.
she canât get the look on your face out of her mind. the look at showed everything. the way your body looks exhausted, as if it had been fighting. worst of all, she saw every ounce of hurt in your eyesâ it confirmed everything.
the look in your eyes, the hurt in your voice, the way you avoided her for the rest of the night at the party.
thatâs how she knew you loved her back. and that was meant to be your final act of loveâ leaving her.
but wanda wouldnât accept that.
wanda thinks of her future often. how she wants to open up her own firm, how she wants to have a decent sized houseâ no more than twenty minutes away from the city, the amount of kids she wants to have, you, you, you.
in every different imaginable scenario sheâs imagined for herself, in every different future sheâs envisioned, youâre always there. thereâs no version of herself she can imagine without you.
which is why sheâs suddenly found herself outside of your house in the middle of a thunderstorm at 8 at night.
she knew this was inappropriate and a setup for failure but she couldnât go another hour not at least trying. sheâs gone too many days with her anxiety eating away at her.
she knew that you loved herâ hell, you basically confessed it to her the night you were drunk in her car. itâs been so long since then and sheâs had to watch you date other people despite having confessed your true feelings.
so, logically, wanda had to force herself to ignore the confession and start to date other people as well.
but wanda knew they could never be you. no matter how hard she tried to make herself like the other girls, she always wished it was you she was holding at nightâ not them
as wanda stood outside your gate, she couldnât help but recall when she went to go see you at work after you broke up with a fling.
and unfortunately for wanda, this was after you confessed. she had to sit there and console your crying eyes all while knowing the both of you had reciprocating feelings for the other.
wanda parked her car a few spots away from the main entrance and fixed her appearance before grabbing the takeout food she had brought for the two of you to share.
she sat in her car for a few minutes, trying to focus on her breathing and calming the nerves in her body. trying to rehearse things to say to say to you in front of her mirror, she looks over her appearance and fixes her makeup slightly.
i mean, what is she supposed to say to the girl sheâs in love with who just broke up with someone she was dating? yay, now letâs get together? no. wanda had to be a supportive friendâ no matter how badly she ached for more.
getting out of her car, she slowly walks up to the main entrance. as she walks in, sheâs hit with the familiar smell of the air freshener the company uses and it gives her a small boost of confidence.
stopping to say hi to natasha before going into your office, she greets her.
âhey nat,â wanda says softly while peering into natashaâs office.
both wanda and natasha were familiar with each other through you and had no issue having conversations without your company, they were comfortable with each other.
natasha looks up from her work and up to wanda, a slight surprised smile on her face. she had a feeling wanda would show up for you, just unsure of when.
âhey,â she replies, âsheâs in her office. she could really use the pick me up.â
wanda nods in understanding, âi know, sheâs been down recently. brought her some food in case she needed it.â
natasha smirks softly and whispers lowly, âif youâre going to continue being a girlfriend to her, you need to make it official before somebody else does.â
wanda freezes. did natasha know about you two? surely you wouldnât tell her anything, but why else would she say that?
wanda gives an awkward chuckle and walks off in the direction of your office, replaying natashaâs words and how she had a knowing look on her face as she said that.
slowly peering into your office, she knocks softly, âhey, pretty girlâ
looking away from your desktop, you see wanda dressed in your college t-shirt and a pair of jeans while holding a takeout box from one of your favorite restaurants.
your heart swoons at the pet name, as well as the smile on her face. this isnât the first time wandaâs shown up to your job unannounced. in fact, she does this at least a few times out of the month.
she insisted that it was her biggest priority to make sure you were taken care of.
she walks over to your desk and gives you a small kiss on the forehead and a rub on the back.
âyou feeling okay?â wandaâs voice is laced with concern and love. it filled your stomach with butterflies.
truth is, you were actually feeling content after the break up. you constantly felt a weight on your chest while you were in that relationship. really, you could hardly call it a relationship. it lasted less than a month and you were happy it was over.
everytime you two went out, you always thought about how wanda would be acting if if was her you went out with instead. no matter what, you always had her in the back of your mind and you felt guilty for it.
shrugging softly, you lean into wandaâs side, enjoying how sheâs giving you this soft attention. you really should be honest with her and tell her youâre fine but the fact that sheâs being so sweet and attentive, it really makes you want to play into this facade just so she can continue being sweet to you. wanda tightened her hold on you and cooed softly.
wanda knew though. normally when youâre down and out of it, you hardly ever do your makeup. the way you speak is a bit more dragged out, the way you even look at her is different when youâre down.
wanda knew you were okay the second she got close to you, but how could she pass up an opportunity like this to hold you? she would take any excuse to touch you and make you feel happy. she knew she was in love with you, has known it for quite some time now. however, acting on it is a whole other story.
âi got you some food,â wanda runs her fingers through your hair softly, âi want to make sure you eat.â
wanda watches you as you nod softly and look up at her with a happy look on your face. yeah, sheâs in love with you. no doubt about it.
you canât help but immediately let out a soft giggle as you see how she looks at you. you two have known each other for years and she never fails to make you feel cared for.
what would it be like if you two stopped dancing around your feelings for each other?
wanda pulls out the food and you canât help but swoon all over again. wanda knew your order, down to what you want put on the side instead of in the dish, even the sauces and other condiments. no one has ever known you like this.
the two of you ate for the next hour and a half. you asked her how work was going, her brother, what sheâs doing for the holidays. the rest of the world ceased to exist for that hour and a half, and it didnât feel like a lunch break. it felt like something you could get used to doing at home together.
the two of you existed in each others presence for that lunch break. maybe that was when you realized you truly were in love with her. or maybe it was an accumulation of things, but after that day you knew for a fact that wanda could be the one for you.
wanda walked slowly to your front door, her feet feeling heavy. she could hear her heartbeat, she could feel the blood moving around in her body. hell, she swears she can even feel her white blood cells. for the first time since sheâs known you, she was terrified of speaking to you.
the rain soaked through her clothes and clung to her body. her usual soft brown hair was now black and matted with all of the rain water in it. she was freezing, but she didnât care. each drop that fell onto her body only served as a reminder of all the things sheâd never said to you.
every instinct in her was telling her to turn around and bolt, to run and not look back.
but the rational side of her told her that it was now or never. this was her last chance. if she ran, sheâd never see you again.
she knew that the longer you two went without talking, the more likely it is that youâll shut down and block out every memory with wanda from your mind. she knew that she needed to talk to youâ and it had to be now.
before getting to your house, she stopped by a near by store to get you flowers. this wasnât the first time sheâd done so. in fact, the florist practically knew all about her love for you since it was all wanda could talk about when she went to go pick up your customized bouquet.
this time, however, it was terrifying knowing that there was a chance that this could be the last time sheâd be giving you flowers. she knew you were stubborn and once you sat in your thoughts for too long, there was no way of getting you to turn back on it.
had wanda waited too long to speak to you? are you going to turn her away once she gets to your front door? is this going to be the last time she would see you again?
wanda stands in front of your door way, looking disheveled and drenched in rain. the roses she bought for you look worse for wear, but she couldnât imagine coming to you empty handed. she needed to have something in her hand to help calm her nerves at least.
by the time sheâd reached your door, she was shaking. but not out of cold, out of fear and desperation.
knocking on your door, wandaâs heartbeat quickens and for a split second she considers bolting and never coming back.
but the door opens.
and there you are, and somehow in the midst of all the chaos between you two, wanda thinks you look as beautiful as ever.
you look at wanda with an incredulous look, almost telling yourself youâre imagining her here at your doorstep.
you start, âwanda, i donât think th-â
âno,â wanda says sharply, almost too firm and pushes past you and into your house. her breathing is shallow. it wasnât from the rain though, it was from the years of unspoken truths, missed opportunities. she needed it out in the air.
wandaâs tone and demeanor momentarily stun you. she has always bent on anything you say and rarely interrupted you when you spoke.
after slowly closing the door behind her, you follow her further into your house. your heart is beating and you canât help that worry she may get sick being drenched in all the rain.
wanda now is in the middle of your living pacing from one end of the room to the other, clutching drenched and withered red roses in her hands. she looks like sheâs on the verge of passing out and youâre immediately worried that she very well could drop on your floor.
âwanda, i think you need to sit down.. let be get you a towel,â you say softly while waking towards her slowly, like she was a cat that could run off at any second.
âno,â she says quickly, now stopping and facing you, âyou donât get to kick me out or walk away this time. you canât shut me out, not after everything. i know i hurt youâ us, but i canât just walk away without telling you everything.â
wanda rushes her words out, but not faltering once in her firm presence. her voice is laced with desperation and you can literally see her hands shaking.
you can hear a small waver in her voice, one youre not used to. wandaâs body language screams terrified and anxious, but her eyes scream with something much louder: resolve.
you canât help try to hold back a smile at how you can see the emotion in her eyes. wandaâs eyes speak so much louder than her voice could ever, and you have always loved it so much. itâs how you two could communicate with one another from across the room.
you stand silent and nod, unsure of what to do.
âi understand how it looked. at the party, i mean. the girl there wasnât anyone i knew, or even want to get to know for that matter. it was just a way to help me pass the time at the party, no matter how nasty that sounds,â wanda begins rambling and you can slowly see the confidence wear off. she pinches the bridge of her nose. this was already off to a bad start.
she had practiced this so many times over the past three hours and none of it was coming out how she wanted it to.
âshe wasnât you,â her voice breaks softly and her words make you freeze.
your heart beat quickens. what does she mean? maybe sheâs just trying to make nice and keep the agreement going, it canât mean that you think it means.
you try to interrupt her, âwanda-â
âi said let me ta-â
you raise your voice and look at her pointedly, âyou are in my home and i will speak if i choose.â
wanda feels like a child being scolded.
with a soft and gentle voice, you apologize, âthat night, my birthday. seeing you with that girl made me realize weâve had this whole friends with benefits thing go on too long. itâs gotten in the way of our personal lives and for the sake of our future partners, we need to cut it off.â
you force it out, not sounding confident at all. although you had put much thought into it, it pained you to say it aloud to her. to watch her face drop, to actually see how your words affected her.
tears well in wandaâs eyes, spilling over with a soft, heartbroken cry. this wasnât what she came here for. she didnât come here so you could shut her down before even trying to tell you she loved you.
shaking her head and clearing her throat, wanda walks closer to you.
âyou donât get to cut this off without at least having a proper conversation with me,â wanda chokes out through sobs, wiping her tears angrily, âyou canât just throw me away like that.. pleaseâ
the silence between the two of you causes the atmosphere in the room to thicken.
hearing her pleading voice, the way sheâs gripping onto your shoulders tightly as itâs the last time sheâll touch or see you againâ you canât help but try to fight tears.
in fact, it very well may be the last.
you shake your head, you had thought this over and realized that if wanda didnât reciprocate the same feelings for youâ itâs best if you let her go.
it had become a never ending cycle of stringing you along with no end in sight.
but if it meant nothing to wanda, why would she be here begging and crying for you?
haphazardly, you throw caution to the wind and decide that if this is the last night youâll see wanda, you may as well lay it all on the table.
you pull away from wanda, raising your voice slightly, âdo you have any idea what it took for me to finally accept that this, us, would be a never ending cycle? that itâs only a game of almost? i canât keep waiting for you, for someone whoâs just going to treat me like a place holder for another girl who wonât even last a month and a half?!â
you swallow tears and try your best to sound as firm as possible, âi sat around for all this time just watching you be with other people. giving them the affection i so badly wish you would reserve only for me.â
wandaâs eyebrows furrow at your insinuation that she only every treated you like a pit stop.
anger builds inside and she canât help but scoff, âare you fucking kidding me? i treated you like a place holder? thereâs no way youâre being serious right now.â
her scoff and rough voice cause you to turn back on your heel, defensiveness and frustration seeping through your veins.
âyeah, a goddamn pit stop, wanda. you came around, got me fucking wrapped around your finger and made me fa-,â you almost said it, âyou had me wrapped around your finger. i was always there when you called, like a damn fool!â
wanda couldnât believe what she was hearing. you were acting like she was some kind of person who viewed you as a fool. she was helplessly in love with you, and this is what you saw her as.
running a hand through her hair in hopes of helping herself calm down, she exclaims, âdo you really think this was one sided?! i had to watch you date other people too! i wasnât the only one who dated! after that time you got drunk and i had to take care of you, i couldnât stop thinking about you saying you wished we could be more! and then i had to carry on with my life like you hadnât told me you wanted something more with me.â
wanda swallows hard before the words spill outâthe night you told her you wanted more. she never wanted to tell you about that night, for fear of running you off.
it was now or never, she had to tell you.
you freeze, what night is she talking about? the weight of her words finally hit you, and it feels like the world has shifted. you search her face, like the answer youâre searching for is written on her forehead.
wanda sighs and rubs her face, âiâm sorry. you got drunk a while back and told me you wanted more. i never told you because i knew it would send you running off, and i couldnât bare the thought of losing you. it was better to have you like this, no matter how much it hurt, than to not have you at all.â
the rain seemed to be the only sound in the house. the soft thuds of the branches outside hitting the side of the roof are all you two can hear. you stare at each other, for the first time with uncertainty as to whatâs next for you two.
wanda walks slowly closer, stopping a few feet in front of you, âdo you really think i wanted this to be one sided? i thought that by holding back and keeping my feelings to myself, it was the only way iâd still be able to have you in my life.â
you stare at her as you slowly understand what sheâs trying to say. she loved you back.
âi never wanted you to feel that way,â barely above a whisper, âand iâm so sorry that i made you feel that way. it was never my intention to make you feel like you were anything other than my first priority. i only every wanted you, only you. i found myself looking for you in every person i met because i was afraid that if i told you i loved you, youâd run away. if having you meant keeping my feelings to myself, i would make that sacrifice because i couldnât fathom the thought of you. no longer being in my life.â
you stay silent, her words echoing in your head. wanda loved you back? you can see her hands shaking and the insecurity in her eyes. her hands are shaking and the petals on the roses are falling off slowly with the weight of the water droplets on them.
following your eyes, wanda remembers she got you roses.
she speaks softly, almost afraid to speak to you, âi brought you these. iâm sorry theyâre not that pretty, they got kind of messed up with the rain and me squeezing them so tight.â
wanda speaks nervously, shyly and you canât help but frown at her demeanor. sheâs no longer the confident person you know. right now she looks like an insecure woman whoâs been rejected by someone sheâs been in love with for years.
you gently reach out for the flowers, still shocked by the revelation wandaâs revealed to you in the matter of fifteen minutes.
you hardly register that sheâs leaving your home with a new weight on her chest and an empty feeling in her heart.
wanda took your silence as the final answer sheâd been dreading. rejection. wanda thinks you donât love her back. the silence in the room weighed on her like a death sentence and she was forced to walk awayâ heartbroken and alone.
the sound of her car door being shut pulls you out of your stupor and you realize what this meansâ what wandaâs departure means.
this canât be the end.
with adrenaline coursing through you, you throw the door open. you rush out of your house and just before she leaves your drive way, you call out for her.
wanda, as if hoping youâd chase her, drives her car back into your drive way and parks. wanda looks anywhere but you, as if afraid the next thing youâll tell her is to never come back. her hands grip at her steering wheel tight enough to the point her knuckles turned white. sheâs terrified.
stepping outside of her car, she walks up to you. her hands are shaking and you can see that her eyes are red rimmed from all the crying sheâs done tonight.
your voice is hoarse from the yelling and crying as well, âiâm sorry. iâm sorry it took this long to tell you and im sorry for accusing you of treating me like nothing. wanda, i love you tooâ i always have. i was terrified of you not feeling the same way so i forced myself to ignore it. i was wrong, i was wrong about everything.â
wandaâs breath stops and her eyes well up with tears again, âplease donât lie to me just for the sake of my emotions.â
you shake your head insistently, âiâm being honest, i swear on everything i love. i love you, i have for a while. i was just scared and i didnât know you felt the same way.â
âyou love me?â wandaâs voice is shaking and she canât tell if sheâs dreaming or already getting sick from standing in the rain for too long.
nodding with a nervous smile, you donât care about the rain soaking your clothes or the lighting in the sky. all that matters is that you tell wanda how you feel. before time runs out and you lose her for good.
wanda inhales sharply, a look of relief washing over and she lets out a soft laugh. a trembling hand cautiously reaches for your face as her eyes flooded with relief.
âi was scared,â she says through a wet laugh, âi thought that you would run if i told you i was in love with you.. but if youâll let me, i swear i wonât ever make you feel like a second priority again. youâve always been the most important thing in my life and i never want you to feel like anything else.â
her words hit you like a rush of warmth, contrasting against the cold rain surrounding you two. you smile widely, your heart overjoyed with the fact that wanda did love you as you did her.
you laughâ a genuine laugh, and before she can get another word out, you pull her into you. you couldnât waste another second before connecting your lips.
when you two meet, itâs like everything clicked. all the chaos, all the flings, every person annoying you two about getting together, it meant nothing now that you two expressed what youâd been hiding.
you rest your forehead against wandaâs and whisper softly, âweâve got a lot to figure out now, but this means weâll do it together.â
wanda nods with a small smile as she looks at you, âyeah, together.â
as you two stand there, both laughing at the dramatics of it all, you canât help but let out a sigh of relief, one youâve held for years. wanda was finally yours and you knew then and there that all of the missed opportunities and lack of truths only led you to her.
ignoring the messiness and the lack of perfection, it was real.

â§.* how to lose the girl; xmh
synopsis:Â minghao was feeling tired of shallow relationships. his friends, noticing his frustration, challenge him to pursue a girl and then push her away within ten days. intrigued by the idea, he reluctantly accepts the bet as a fun challenge.
part of my ninety minute movies one shot series. âĄïž
paring/s: afab reader x non-idol hao.
genre/s:Â humor (sort of lmao), low-key fuckboy hao
warning/s:Â alcohol consumption, some bad jokes, nothing too bad or seggsy
word count: 10.3k
content:Â all the vibes of how to lose a guy in ten days but nawt. enjoy xo!
Day 1 - The Bet
In the lively heart of the city, Minghao, was out flaunting his charming looks and a playful grin, typically on his much too expensive and lavish work lunches which gave him and the rest of his colleges an excuse to pick up a bunch of beautiful women to take home every night, a lot of them falling hard for him no matter how poorly he left them hanging the morning after. But lately, he noticed how he always found himself drowning in a sea of shallow connections, and it was starting to wear on him.
Sensing his distress, his friends hatched an interesting plan to inject some excitement into his love life: they dared him to make a girl fall for him and then push her away in just ten days! âNo way in fucking hell could he pull this off, heâll get bored by day four.â jeered one friend, gleefully rubbing his hands together. With a mix of reluctance and curiosity bubbling inside him, Minghao accepted, eager to see how fast he could make a girl sprint for the exit.
Across town, y/n was navigating her own challenges. She was as her friends described a fierce, independent powerhouse who was on a mission to conquer the advertising world and prove to her office overrun by male colleagues that she meant business. Relationships? She just viewed them for what they were distractions in her quest for successâsomething she simply couldnât afford. With her sights set on her career, she was about to discover just how unpredictable life and love could be when the most unexpected challenges came knocking.Â
Day 2 - The Meeting
Minghao first spotted Y/n at a coffee shop, her eyes glued to her laptop as she furiously typed, rather loudly should he add. He decided she would be the perfect target. Something about her tight lipped focused face, her hair perfectly slicked into a ponytail, not a hair out of place, something about her felt more like a challenge than a perfect sweep for his bet.Â
He approached her with his trademark smile, confident and carefree. âIs this seat taken?â he asked, gesturing toward the empty chair across from her. y/n looked up, a mix of annoyance and intrigue in her gaze.Â
âActually, yes,I donât care to do my work around a fuck boy flirting with me, my office has enough of those. Have a good day.â she replied bluntly, not ready to be derailed from her work.
Minghao, undeterred by her obvious dismissal, sat down anyway. âIâm Minghao,â he introduced himself. âAnd I think you owe me a chance to change your mind.â
She raised an eyebrow, still looking down at her computer, typing a bit less loud now, almost as if she was intrigued and didnât want him to know but the scowl on her face said she was still skeptical. âOh, really? And how do you plan to do that?â
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he leaned in closer. âLetâs just say I have a few tricks up my sleeve,â he replied playfully. âBut first, youâll have to let me take you on a perfect first date.â
Y/n almost chuckled at his audacity, but there was an undeniable spark of intrigue in her gaze. Little did she know, mingling with Minghao was about to shake up her life.Â
âFine. If that will get you to leave me alone while I work, Iâll agree.âÂ
âIâm not leaving here until I get your contact information,â Minghao laughed.Â
Rolling her eyes, Y/n dug through her wallet, searching for a business card. âHere,â she said, finally pulling one out and extending it towards him.
But Minghao just held his hand up in a stop-motion gesture, shaking his head. âNo, not a business card. I need to know youâll actually show up, so let me have your personal phone number instead.â
Y/n stared at him, incredulity mixing with a lingering smile. âOh, so bold. And what makes you think I will?â
âBecause,â he leaned closer, his expression earnest now, âI have a feeling that once you get to know me, you wonât want to miss out. Plus, if I leave with a business card, how will I ever convince you to let me take you on that perfect date?â
Her skepticism flickered for a second under the brightness of his confidence, but she still hesitated. âYou really think you can convince me?â
âAbsolutely,â he replied, his tone teasing yet sincere. âAnd if I fail, I promise Iâll leave you alone forever. Deal?â
For a moment, Y/n pondered the spontaneity of his request, weighing the pros and cons. Finally, a grin broke free on her lips as she typed her number into his phone, the anticipation of the unknown sparking excitement within her. âAlright, but donât say I didnât warn you,â she said, handing back the phone with a hint of warning in her tone.
Minghao's eyes lit up with genuine delight as he saved her contact. âYou wonât regret this,â he promised, his voice softening a touch.
As he returned the phone to her, Y/n couldnât help but feel a flutter of uncertainty mixed with exhilaration. Perhaps there was something to this spontaneous gamble after all. Little did they know, that simple decision would pave the way for an unforgettable connection and adventures neither had anticipated.
Day 3 - The Chase
Over the days that followed, Minghao played his part, showering her with attention that ranged from over-the-top romantic gestures to quirky surprises. He brought her favorite pastries to the office, sent her memes that made her laugh, and even bombarded her with cheesy pick-up lines. Each time, Y/n found herself torn between annoyance and amusement.
At first, she had tried to brush him off, responding to his texts with one-word replies or simply ignoring his more audacious attempts to brighten her day. However, Minghao persisted, his cheerful determination almost unwavering. One afternoon, she returned from a long meeting to find her desk decorated with colorful sticky notes adorned with doodles and handwritten compliments. âYouâre the best part of my day,â one note claimed, and despite her initial irritation, a small smile tugged at her lips.
Minghao was relentless, his charm starting to break down her walls. She had to admit there was something about himâhe was refreshingly carefree, unlike the uptight guys she usually dated. While others might have tried to impress her with their accomplishments or flashy gifts, Minghao found ways to make her laugh, embracing a lightheartedness that was both refreshing and frightening. But Y/n was determined to keep him at arm's length; she had a career to focus on.
Still, the more time they spent chatting, the more she found herself looking forward to his texts. Each meme and quirky voice note felt less like an intrusion and more like a highlight of her day. One evening, after a particularly grueling week, she found herself daydreaming about a potential picnic under the stars, something Minghao had suggested a few days prior.
âNo, no,â she chastised herself, shaking her head as she turned her attention to her laptop. âStay focused.âÂ
Yet, every time she tried to immerse herself in her work, her mind would inevitably wander back to him. The way he laughed, the warmth in his gaze, even the way he playfully challenged her every now and thenâthere was an undeniable pull that made it hard to ignore him.
On a particularly busy Friday, while sipping her coffee and reviewing a presentation, she felt her phone vibrate on the desk. A message appeared: âHey, just thought you might want to know that your favorite pastry is waiting at the corner cafĂ©. No obligations. Just a little pick-me-up to start your weekend. đâ
Y/n's heart softened, a flutter of appreciation sweeping through her. âOkay, this is getting ridiculous,â she muttered to herself, trying to suppress the smile creeping onto her face. Maybe she could allow herself a moment of distraction.
She quickly glanced at the time and the empty office around her, nobody here really worked on the weekends aside from herself so she decided to take a break just this once. With a random jolt of excitement, she stood up, brushed aside her work-related thoughts, and headed to the cafĂ©. She spotted him sitting comfortably at a small table, a bright smile illuminating his face. Before she could even say a word, he raised a pastry in greeting, âI didnât know if you liked it warm or cold, so I got one of each, just to be safe!â
Her laughter bubbled out despite herself. âYou really didnât have to do this.â
âBut I did, you mentioned to me the other day you never have fun on the weekends anymore because you're busy working, â Minghao countered, setting the pastries down and leaning back in his chair. âLife's too short not to indulge in the little things. Besides, you're worth it.â
His words stirred something in her, something she had kept buried under layers of practicality. A mix of anxiety and excitement danced in her chest as they shared bits of pastry and stories, laughter weaving between them effortlessly. And for the first time in what felt like ages, Y/n considered that perhaps life wasnât just about hard work and career goalsâit could also be about spontaneous moments and unexpected connections.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting warm hues of orange and pink across the cafĂ©, Y/n let herself enjoy the moment, her defenses slowly crumbling, piece by piece. âWant to go for a drink? Unless you have plans or something?âÂ
âYouâre asking me out? Wow, Y/n, Iâm pleasantly surprised. Iâd actually enjoy that. Big boss lady is paying, right?â Minghao pressed, a cheeky grin spreading across his face.
Y/n rolled her eyes, but a laugh escaped her lips. âVery funny. I should have known youâd want to make this about money,â she teased, her heart racing slightly at the thought of stepping into the realm of casual dating.
âIâm kidding. But you know Iâd never let you cover the whole tab, right?â he replied, his voice playful yet sincere. âHow about we split it? One thing Iâve learned is that relationships, friendships or otherwise, are all about balance.âÂ
âThat sounds fair but please let me get it actually I feel a little bad about you always paying anyway. Plus, I asked you. That's how it works right?,â she agreed, her spirit lifted by his lightheartedness. âWhere do you want to go?âÂ
âI know this cozy little bar just around the corner. They have some cool drinks and the vibes are good,â he suggested, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. âPlus, Iâve heard they serve a mean nacho platter.â
âNachos and drinks sound perfect. Wow- I hate that I actually got excited by a fucking macho platter, but okay.â she replied, feeling a surge of excitement and momentary embarrassment over some fucking chips with cheese. She was surprised at how nervous yet invigorated she felt.Â
As they walked to the bar, the warm evening air enveloped them like a casual embrace. With every step beside him, Y/n felt the weight of her daily grind lift. âSo, whatâs your go-to cocktail?â she asked, surprisingly eager to keep the chatter flowing.
âIâd say Iâm a classic and simple beer or wine dude, but Iâm always game for something a bit off the beaten path. You?âÂ
âDirty martini,â she answered, a proud smile crossing her face. âSimple but sophisticated.âÂ
âAh, the big boss lady indeed. But the real question is gin or vodka?â He winked, and for a moment, she felt herself blush, something she hadnât experienced in ages.Â
âVodka, but shut you fucking mouth and donât tell any martini enthusiasts. Extra dry, extra dirty.âÂ
âNot extra wet and extra dirty?âÂ
Y/n nearly choked on her own spit, watching his face crinkle into a big smile before they erupted into laughter.Â
They snagged a small table tucked away in a corner, perfect for engaging in their own little world.Â
After placing their orders, conversations flowed as smoothly as the drinks. Minghao effortlessly switched between sharing amusing anecdotes about his life and asking Y/n about hers, genuinely interested in her career aspirations and what fueled her passions. With every laugh they exchanged and each shared story, Y/n found herself relaxing more, drawn into his effortless charm.Â
âAlright, I need the truth,â Minghao said, leaning in as if about to share a juicy secret. âWhatâs your biggest guilty pleasure?âÂ
Y/n took a moment, contemplating her answer before finally admitting, âReality TV. Itâs a little bit shameful, I know, but thereâs something about the drama that I canât resist.âÂ
Minghao laughed heartily, the sound filling her with warmth. âNo shame in that. I actually canât lie and say I donât enjoy watching Love Island. Iâm more of a cooking show fan, to be honest. Nothing quite like watching people fail spectacularly while I sit there eating takeout as if I can cook this shit myself.â
âOkay, weâre definitely going to have a night where I introduce you to some of the best reality stars of all time, where you will sit and not fucking complain. And since I can cook, I will go hell's kitchen style on the stove. â she declared, a playful challenge glimmering in her eyes.Â
âHey, look Iâm game, but only if you let me judge your cooking like Iâm the god himself Ramsay.â he exclaimed, his excitement unmistakable. âJust let me know when. Iâll bring the snacks and the commentary.â
As the evening progressed, they shared stories about childhood memories, dreams, and the quirks that made them who they were. With each revelation, Y/n felt a deeper connection forming, an understanding that perhaps taking a little time away from work wouldnât derail her ambitions after all.Â
Maybe it was time to let a little chaos in, she thought, as their conversation twisted and turned down unexpected paths, igniting sparks of joy she hadnât anticipated, making her question everything she thought she knew about herself and about love.
Minghao got the vibe that his little plan for making Y/n fall for him could potentially end up with him feeling the same way, but not yet. He pushed that feeling deep down inside his gut, almost like he could hide it from everyone, including himself. His heart raced with excitement, but mingled with a twinge of anxiety. He didnât want to rush things or scare her off with his burgeoning feelings. Just because she was opening up didnât mean she was ready for more, and he wanted to tread carefully even if it was just to fuck around for a bet with his friends.Â
âSo, Y/n, since youâre not working tomorrow, want to come hang out at my place for a bit? Have a nightcap? Maybe watch a movie or something?â Minghao questioned, his voice casual, but the flicker of anticipation in his eyes betrayed him.
Y/n hesitated for a moment, the prospect of going to his place stirring a mix of excitement and nerves within her. She knew this was a step beyond their playful banter, a leap into a territory where she would need to confront what she was feeling. But the words âwhy not?â danced on the tip of her tongue.Â
âSure, Iâd love that,â she replied, a hint of eagerness surprising even herself. âBut fair warning, if weâre watching a movie, it has to be a good one. Nothing corny please.â
âOh come on, you seem like youâd love a good rom-com, I can tell.â Minghao laughed, and she found herself laughing along, the playful banter feeling natural and comforting.
As they bickered back and forth about their movie preferences, Y/n felt a flutter of excitement at the thought of spending more time with him. Maybe this was the chaos she needed in her lifeâthis lighthearted connection that sparked something new and exhilarating.
âI know just the film to break your resistance,â Minghao declared, raising an eyebrow mischievously. âPrepare yourself for a classic, then. I think youâll love it, itâs one of my favorites.âÂ
âAlright, Iâll take your word for it. But if itâs as terrible as I imagine, you owe me.â Y/n countered playfully, feeling a warmth spread through her chest.Â
âDeal.â he shot back with a cheeky grin, and the two clinked their glasses together in agreement, the camaraderie between them solidifying.
As they finished their drinks and shared a few more laughs, Y/n couldnât shake off the feeling that this was just the beginningâlike an entrance into a world she had pushed away for too long, forever maybe.. And Minghao, with his undeniable charm and knack for fun, was animating a side of her she had almost forgotten existed.
After wrapping up the evening at the bar, they stepped back into the cool night air. The streets were softly illuminated, the stars twinkling overhead, creating an atmosphere that was very special. As they walked side by side toward Minghao's apartment, the distance felt comfortable, but somehow charged with an undercurrent of anticipation.
âY/n,â Minghao said, breaking the gentle silence, âI know weâve only just started hanging out, but I just want to make sure you feel okay about this. I mean, about coming over.â He glanced at her, his expression earnest. âNo pressure at allâI just genuinely enjoy your company.Iâm not trying to be a player or whatever you assumed I was when we first met.â
His sincerity made her heart flutter. âIâm glad you said that, but it was fuck boy and you maybe have proved yourself beyond that title. I enjoy this too, and I think itâll be fun to hang out more and get to know you. JustâŠuh, promise you wont judge me too harshly if I end up hogging the blanket during the movie or talking with popcorn in my mouth or something.âÂ
âFair warning accepted,â he replied, a teasing gleam in his eye. âI might have to initiate a blanket-sharing strategy, I think we can make it work.âÂ
They both laughed, the playful energy crackling between them as they approached his building. Maybe she could allow herself to embrace this unexpected chaos, to explore a connection without overthinking it for once. And who knows? Perhaps Minghao wouldnât just be a passing ship but a delightful step into a new chapter of her life.Â
As they stepped into his cozy apartment, Y/n tucked that thought away for later, intent on simply enjoying the momentâand the thrill of where it might lead them.
Minghao took her coat off her shoulders, hanging it on the small black hooks by his front door. Sliding his own off gently placing them side by side. Instructing her where to place her shoes and bag on the marble entry table donning photos of his friends and family.Â
âYour apartment is really cute, I can tell you like living here. It has a warm feel to it.âÂ
âYeah, I do,â Minghao smiled taking in a whiff of his tobacco scented room spray, and grabbing y/nâs hand to lead her into his living room, taking a brief stop at his bar cart and grabbing a bottle of wine, while handing her two glasses to carry in her empty hand.Â
The aroma of the wine filled the space as he poured their glasses, the deep crimson liquid swirling beautifully.
Minghao grinned, taking a sip of his own before handing one of the glasses over to her. Their fingers brushed for a moment, sending a spark of electricity that made her smile shyly. âMake yourself comfortable. Iâll grab the remote.â
Y/n settled onto the couch, sinking into the overly plush cushions. She took a moment to look around, noting the way the soft lighting cast a warm glow over the walls adorned with artâpieces that seemed to reflect Minghaoâs adventurous spirit, each one telling a story.
When he returned, remote in hand, he plopped down beside her, his warmth radiating through her as he casually leaned back, scrolling through his streaming options. âAlright, letâs see what we have here. Brace yourself for my fucking unmatched taste in cinema,â he teased, glancing at her with a twinkle in his eye.
âGive me all that you got, Iâm ready,â she replied with playful confidence, leaning into the moment.
With a few flicks of the remote, they settled on a classic action-comedy. The opening credits rolled as they adjusted their seats, finding a naturally comfortable closeness. The shared space between them began to feel charged with anticipation.Â
As the film began, they laughed together at the antics on screen, occasionally glancing at each other, enjoying the laughter as a bridge between their hearts. Every shared chuckle seemed to layer on the connection that was forming, an unspoken understanding lacing the air around them.
âMinghao, I, uh have got to admit, this isnât what I expected tonight,â Y/n said during a quiet moment, her eyes sparkling. âBut Iâm really glad it worked out and that I met you.â
âYeah? Really? Me too,â he replied, his gaze softening as he turned to her. âIâve wanted to hang out like this for a while. I wasnât sure if youâd feel the same, but Iâm glad we did. Iâm glad I forced you to give me your phone number that day.âÂ
Y/n felt a warmth spread through her chest at his honesty. She had been guarded for so long, and here was Minghao, effortlessly peeling away at her layers with every shared moment.
As the movie progressed, he reached for the popcorn bowl perched on the coffee table, offering it to her. Their fingers brushed again, igniting an electric thrill that danced between them. The film faded into the background as Y/n found herself getting lost in the depths of his gaze.
âOkay, Iâll admit,â she began, leaning in slightly, âyour blanket-sharing strategy may be your ultimate plan to seduce me. I see you.â
Minghao chuckled, taking her playful jab in stride. âGuilty as charged. What can I say? Who could resist a cozy blanket and beautiful company?â He pulled the soft throw from behind the couch, draping it over their laps.
As he settled back beside her, their shoulders nudged together under the blanket, his hand wrapped around her thigh and Y/n felt her heart race. There was an undeniable chemistry in the air, palpable like the fragrance of the wine swirling around them.Â
Without thinking too much about it, she rested her head on his shoulder, throwing her hair back to reveal her neckânot as a move, just a way to make herself more comfortable. As she leaned in, she caught the subtle scent of Minghaoâs cologne, warm and inviting, and felt the gentle rise and fall of his shoulder beneath her cheek. It was a small gesture, yet it felt so natural, almost like an instinctive draw to his warmth.
Minghao looked down at her with a side eye, surprised at how effortlessly they had crossed this invisible line. He couldnât help but notice how soft her skin looked under the low light and the way her eyes widened with joy as she laughed at the antics on the screen. Her laughter was contagious, reverberating through him and making his heart race a little faster, a little louder in the calm of the room.
Suddenly, Minghao felt an unfamiliar pang of anxiety creep into his chest. The bet had seemed innocentâa way to explore the chemistry simmering between themâbut now it felt like a threaded line tugging at him in different directions. Maybe the bet was a bad idea after all, because now he felt himself falling for someone without knowing what could come next, just like that. It was as if he had opened a door to an inevitable chaos while still trying to remain in control.
Yet every time she shifted slightly against him, every laugh that slipped from her lips, deepened the connection he felt. He had initially thought heâd be the one charming her, the one doing the chasing, but here they were, and Y/nâs mere presence had knocked him off his feet. It startled him, this flicker of vulnerabilityâthat maybe he wasnât just playing a game; he was investing real emotions.
âYou okay?â Y/n murmured, tilting her head up to meet his gaze, her brow slightly furrowed as she noticed the contemplative look on his face.
He quickly masked his thoughts with an easygoing smile. âYeah, just caught up in the movie,â he replied, trying to divert her attention. âThe action scenes are really intense, right?â
Though she seemed to accept his diversion with a playful nod, he could see the hint of curiosity lingering in her eyes, a flash that told him she sensed something in the air between them. A moment of silence stretched between them like a tightly pulled string, neither of them willing to break it. Instead, they allowed the movie to fill the space, as he leaned down and planted a soft kiss against her lips. Something subtle and quick that was just perfect for the moment and wouldnât derail the nice night they were sharing, he wasnât ready for that yet.Â
As the film progressed, Y/n shifted again, curling her body towards him slightly as a particularly funny scene played out, her laughter bubbling forth. It was that unfiltered joy he found intoxicatingâa refreshing reminder that life could be this light, this fun, and maybe even a little crazy.
Day 4 - The Competition
During a group outing with friends, Minghao decided to reveal the second phase of his plan: he started being annoyingly competitive. âLetâs have a game night.â he declared, his voice ringing with enthusiasm as he rallied everyone around him. "I challenge you all to a series of ridiculous contests, from karaoke battles to board games. Losers buy the drinks." There was a mixture of excitement and groans from the group, but Minghao was unfazed. He thrived in this atmosphere, eager to galvanize Y/n into joining him in the chaos.
Y/n, who he knew hated losing, found herself reluctantly swept up in the energy of the night. A glimmer of excitement sparked in her eyes, even as she partnered with Minghao, who pretended to be completely uninterested in the competition. She could see the mischievous glint behind his facade, his playfulness luring her in.
As they tackled their first karaoke challenge, Minghao grabbed the microphone. He belted out an off-key rendition of her favorite song, doing little to hide his comedic flair. âYou're fucking terrible at this.â Y/n teased him, trying to contain the laughter that bubbled up at the sight of his unfiltered enthusiasm.
âMaybe Iâm just trying to get you to help me improve,â Minghao shot back, his smile never wavering. He pointed the microphone at her cheekily, inviting her to join in. The playful energy between them was palpable, the laughter of their friends helped her gain confidence.
Y/n rolled her eyes but couldnât quell the smile creeping onto her lips. âYou know I fucking suck at singing, right?â she joked, hopping up on stage beside him. In a moment of spontaneity, she grabbed the microphone and took the lead, pouring her heart into the next part of the song, using her off-key notes as a comedic backdrop. Her confidence radiated, and soon the others joined in, clapping and singing along.
The laughter and energy of the room felt electric, and for a moment, the competition melted away, leaving only joy. The night continued with a series of board games and ridiculous challenges, each one causing Minghao to lean in closer to Y/n as they plotted ways to win.Â
âWhatâs your game plan?â he whispered to her, though the intensity of his smile hinted he was thoroughly enjoying the game itself more than he let on. The way his eyes sparkled made her heart race a little, stirring a thrill she hadnât anticipated and in that moment all she wanted to do was wipe the smirk off his face with her lips.
âHonestly? I think our only plan is to distract the other teams with our charm,â Y/n replied, gesturing theatrically. âWeâre clearly the most entertaining, so I kind of like it. It's a sweep.â
Minghao laughed, and the sound resonated in her chest. âPerfect strategy.â He leaned in closer, his lips brushing against hers as they whispered strategies into the fray of friendly competition raging around them.
As the night wore on, the playful banter and friendly sabotage culminated in a final showdownâan impromptu trivia contest that had everyone shouting questions at one another. âThis oneâs a gimme. Come on.â Minghao said, grinning ear to ear as he looked at Y/n. âIâll let you take this one.â
She raised an eyebrow, half-surprised by his sudden willingness to let her answer. âUh-huh, so this is your secret strategyâmake me do all the work?â she said, nudging him playfully.
âOnly the smart person's work,â Minghao shot back, laughter dancing in his voice as he leaned into her side. âAnd besides, I canât afford another karaoke performance like thatâIâm salvaging my reputation here.â
She smirked, appreciating the electric vibe still lingering in the air. âFine, but you better promise to make up for it after this.â
Their competitive banter continued as the final questions rolled in. Y/n felt surprisingly exhilarated, and she realized that within the madness of the game nightâamidst the silly antics and the thrill of competitionâsomething deeper was taking root in her heart. Minghao, in all his competitive glory, was not just a friend; he was somebody who brought out a side in her she hadnât even known existed.
Day 5 - The Realization
As time progressed, y/n found herself letting her guard down, enjoying Minghaoâs company more than she intended. They shared late-night conversations, honest stories of their pasts, and hilarious anecdotes that made her laugh until she cried. But just as quickly as those feelings bloomed, fear crept in. Could she afford to get attached?
Both of them shied away from being honest with their feelings as a matter of protection from their pain in the past.Â
Minghao especially realized how complicated the situation was. Could he really move forward with her without telling her the truth of why he asked her out in the first place? However, if he tells her the truth, he could lose her altogether. Each day that he hesitated felt like a weight pressing down on his chest, an unspoken tension hanging between them like the heavy clouds before a storm.
He recalled the tender moments they sharedâthe laughter, the stolen glances, the way her smile lit him up even when he felt like the weight of the world was on him. But lurking beneath those cherished memories was a foundation built on secrets and half-truths. He grappled with the fear that if he revealed the underlying reason for his affection, she might see him as just another guy in her life trying to throw her off her path, rather than someone who genuinely cared.
The truth was like a double-edged sword; it could liberate him or shatter the fragile bond they had formed. In those quiet moments, he could feel his heart wrestling with his mindâone part needing authenticity, while another begged for the safety of keeping his own secret. Was there a path that could lead them both to what they wanted rather than hurting them both?
He knew that eventually, he would have to choose a direction, but every path was filled with uncertainty. Perhaps, for now, he would focus on the little thingsâthe warmth of her hand in his, the gentle way they navigated tough conversations. Yet, deep inside, he wondered how long they could remain strangers to their own truths. The clock was ticking, and each moment felt like an opportunity slipping away.Â
Day 6 - The Plan Backfires
In an effort to push Y/n away to avoid hurting her, Minghao started purposely sending mixed signals. He ignored her texts, acted uninterested in their plans, and even pretended to be busy whenever she attempted to schedule time together. But to his surprise, Y/n didnât waver. She matched his energy with playful banter and unwavering support, showing up outside his office with his favorite coffee just when he needed itâthe same way he had done for her.
Each time she appeared, a smile lighting up her face, it reminded him of how deeply she understood him, and he knew his plan was backfiring. She took his teasing in stride, firing back with witty comebacks that reminded him of the vibrant connection they shared. He felt the walls he was trying to build between them start to crumble, intrigued and frustrated by the strength of her positive attitude.Â
Why was he pushing her away when all she seemed to want was him? He could see the concern behind her laughter, the way her brow furrowed slightly when she caught him lost in thought, and it tore at his heart. Was this really the right way to protect her, or was he simply running from something that could be good for both of them?
On one particularly tough day, as he stared out the window, he caught a glimpse of her leaning against the wall, coffee in hand, waiting for him to take a moment to breathe. The sunlight caught her hair, giving her a glow that made her look like an angel in real life, and his chest tightened. She wasn't the kind of person to give up easily, and maybe thatâs something he was drawn to.Â
Instead of the irritation he anticipated feeling, Minghao began to appreciate her staying power. In that moment, he felt both grateful and terrifiedâgrateful that she cared enough to stick around, and terrified that the longer he held back, the more he risked losing a part of himself he had forgotten even existed.
With each passing day, the facade heâd constructed started to feel less like protection and more like a prison. He saw how much she believed in him, not just as a friend, but as someone capable of finding happiness again. But as the walls crumbled beneath her unwavering kindness, he grappled with the realization that if he didnât confront the truth soon, he might not just push her away, he might just lose her. Minghao knew he would have to decide soon to continue the charade or to find the courage to let her in.Â
Day 7 - The Confession
One night, while they were taking a walk, the air was heavy with tension, and Minghao couldnât take it anymore. âWhy do you keep coming back? Iâm clearly trying to push you away,â he blurted out, the words spilling out in a rush, tinged with frustration and desperation.
Y/n stopped, turning to face him, her expression suddenly serious for once. âBecause, Minghao, I see something in you. I didnât set out to fall for you, but I canât help it. You starting to pull away is confusing me. What changed overnight that you can barely even look at me anymore?â Her tone was both challenging and vulnerable, a blend that cut through the discomfort hanging between them.
âItâs becauseââ Minghao swallowed hard, his heart racing as he looked into her eyes, feeling the weight of the truth pressing against his chest. He focused on her furrowed expression, âThis was a bet, and Iââ
âA bet?â Y/nâs voice rose, sharp almost like a knife diving into his chest. The surprised look on her face shifted rapidly from confusion to hurt, and it churned something deep within him. He was struck again by the disbelief in her eyes.
The silence between them was thick and suffocating. Minghao took a breath, searching for the right words, but they were lost on him. âI didnât mean for it to happen this way,â he pressed on, his voice softer now. âWe started out as a jokeâsomething to distract myself. It was my friend's idea that I foolishly agreed to. And then⊠then you became real to me.â He paused, trying to convey the whirlwind of emotions swirling within him.
Y/n crossed her arms, visibly hurt, but her gaze didn't waver. âYou mean to tell me that all this time, all those moments we hadâthat they were just part of some fucking game with your buddies?â Her voice trembled slightly.
âNo. It may have started that way, but it turned into something much deeper,â he pleaded, desperate to convey his truth. âI didnât plan to fall for you. I didnât plan on feeling this way at all. But once I did, I didnât know how to handle it. I thought pushing you away would protect you from the truth.â
Y/n shook her head, her expression a blend of frustration and heartbreak. âYou think pushing me away protects me? Minghao, it only pushes me into uncertainty. If you had just told me from the start, I could have chosen to stay or walk away. But now, youâve just made everything ten times fucking worse.âÂ
Feeling increasingly guilty he stepped closer, trying to bridge the distance he had created. âIâm so sorry, Y/n. I should have been honest with you. I never wanted to hurt you. The fear of losing you, itâŠâ he trailed off, unsure how to articulate his feelings.
Y/n took a deep breath, her demeanor softening just a fraction. âYou need to make a choice, Minghao. Either let me in, all the way, or please let me go. I.. uh, canât handle this right now. Iâll try to give you a call in a few days or maybe see you around.â
The weight of her words settled heavily in the air, and Minghao realized that it was time to confront not only the truth of their beginning but also the reality of what was blossoming between them. He had been running from the idea of vulnerability for so long, but now faced with Y/nâs determination, he found just enough strength within himself to start breaking down the walls he had built. As he watched her walk away from him not turning back around like he wished she would have, for once, Minghao felt the stirrings of hope amidst his fear.
Day 8 - A Challenge
With Minghaoâs words hanging in the air, Y/n found herself re-evaluating her feelings. She had initially wanted to leave him there on the street as a part of her past, but the connection they shared was stronger than she had anticipated. Maybe, just maybe, she didnât want it to end after all, but she wasnât willing to let him get away with tricking her so easily.
She decided on her own planâsomething to throw him off his game truly in her own style just to get back at him, but only all in good fun. It was time to show Minghao that she wasnât someone to be underestimated.
Y/n had gotten in contact with one of Minghao's friends, a guy named Jisoo whom she had met during their karaoke competition. After a quick chat filled with enthusiasm and laughter, she proposed the idea of entering a âBattle of the Bandsâ-style karaoke show hosted by her workplace for charity. Jisoo was immediately on board and even rallied a few more of their friends to join in. But Y/n made one thing clear: they absolutely couldnât let Minghao in on the secret. This was her chance to catch him off guard.
In the following weeks, his friends practiced relentlessly. Y/n wasn't just aiming to win at work; she wanted to create an unforgettable evening, one that would leave Minghao in pure shock. They practiced their songs, and even designed matching outfits for the eventâa whimsically themed performance that would be impossible to forget.
Finally, the night of the charity show arrived. The venue was filled with colorful lights and the buzz of excitement as coworkers and friends gathered, taking their seats for what promised to be a lively night. Y/n donned a not necessarily work appropriate dress that reflected the playful spirit of her prank and maybe to catch someone's eyes. She could already see Minghao mingling with some of his friends, his laughter filling the air, and she felt a mixture of nerves and anticipation flutter in her stomach.
As the show kicked off, the energy in the room was contagious. The first few acts were entertaining, but Y/n could barely focus. She was waiting for her moment to take the stage and introduce Minghao and the others who were waiting to humiliate their friend gathered backstage, the excitement was palpable. They could hear Minghao in the crowd, cheering loudly for the groups, and Y/n smiled to herself, knowing what was coming next.
When it was their turn to perform, Y/nâs heart raced. She walked onto the stage, focusing on the bright lights and the sea of faces staring back at her. She could spot Minghao in the crowd before she introduced him, watching his slightly puzzled but amused look on his face as he recognized members of his circle.
âHowâs everyone doing tonight?â Y/n shouted into the microphone, and the crowd erupted in cheers, clinking their glasses and waving them in the air as the spotlight warmed her skin.Â
âI have a special surprise for you all this evening!â The anticipation in the room built up in waves as she paused for effect. âYou wonât believe what Iâve been up to. If you havenât already heard, I recently met someone!âÂ
The crowd roared in excitement, whoops and claps echoing around the venue.Â
âShocking, right? You might have seen him around the office. Can we get a spotlight on him?âÂ
The beam of light swept through the crowd until it landed on Minghao, who looked around, momentarily startled.Â
âEveryone, meet Minghao!â Y/n continued, her eyes sparkling with mischief. âWe actually met at the coffee shop below the office. I was drowning in my mid-week project when he approached my table and asked me out on a date. Iâll admit, I was pretty hesitant at first. But he worked his charm on me.âÂ
She smiled warmly, letting reminiscence wash over her. âWe ended up going out a few times after that, but just a few nights ago, he let me in on a little secretâit was all a bet set up by these guys right here!âÂ
Y/n dramatically pointed behind her at a group of men clad in glittery outfits, their faces a mix of embarrassment and amusement as they realized theyâd been called out. Laughter erupted once again, and Minghao could only shake his head, a smirk on his lips as the crowd carried on, fully entertained by the unfolding story.
The laughter from the crowd soared, and Y/n could see Minghaoâs face shifting from amusement to slight embarrassment when a man behind him yelled up to the stage. âA bet? Seriously?â he called out.
âYes. You heard that right.â Y/n responded, leaning into the microphone as she theatrically rolled her eyes, embracing the absurdity of it all. âTurns out, my romantic escapades were all part of some grand scheme these guys made up.âÂ
The men behind her chuckled sheepishly, with one of them, a tall guy with a dazzling smile, shouting playfully, âIn our defense, we thought it was a great idea. Including Minghao.â
âOh, it definitely was,â Y/n replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm. âThanks for the great dates, you guys. I had no idea I was part of a reality show, I watch them enough youâd think Iâd catch on.â She paused for comedic effect, letting the laughter settle before leaning closer to the audience, her tone more serious. âYou know, honestly, Minghao surprised me in ways I never expected.â
She glanced over at Minghao, whose cheeks were slightly flushed under the spotlight but wore a sincere smile. âI was a bit hesitant at first, sure. But then we really connected. And who would have guessed that the guy who interrupted my focused day with a charming smile would become someone so special?â
Cheers erupted from the crowd again, and Y/n took a deep breath, enticing them with what was coming next.Â
âAnd, since weâre being honest here,â she continued, teasingly leaning into her role as the narrator of this unfolding tale, âI feel like we need to make Minghao work just a little for his redemption. No?â The audience murmured in excitement.
âLadies and gentlemen, Iâve arranged a little surprise for him tonight,â Y/n said, gesturing to the side of the stage. âMinghao, my friend, you've got just one more challenge ahead of you.â
Out of nowhere, a karaoke microphone was handed to Minghao from his left side and the crowd erupted into cheers and laughter again. Minghao held it awkwardly, glancing at Y/n with a mix of uncertainty and delight.Â
âWhat am I supposed to do with this?â he asked, genuinely confused but slightly intrigued.Â
âYouâre going to sing! Duh. Donât be dumb,â Y/n declared, a mischievous smile dancing on her lips. âThe audience deserves to see what theyâre in for. Plus, itâs only fair after that little trick you pulled. Youâre going to serenade us all.âÂ
Minghao let out a laugh, his initial shock transforming into acceptance. The crowd erupted once again, chanting, âMinghao! Minghao!âÂ
Feeling the energy in the room, Minghao stepped forward, climbing up the stairs with a new light in his eyes. âAlright then, I guess I have no choice but to give the audience what they want!â He took a deep breath and gazed at Y/n one last time before launching into a fun, upbeat song that brought everyone to their feet.
As he sang, Y/n couldnât help but feel a rush of affection. Despite the insane circumstances that brought them together, there was something genuine unfolding between them, amplified by the shared laughter and excitement of the evening.Â
With each note, Minghao seemed to shed any lingering nerves, pouring his heart out into the music. The audience was enthralled, dancing and singing along, swept up in the joy of the moment. Y/n found herself cheering louder than anyone else, her laughter mingling with his infectious energy.
And maybe, just maybe, she thought as she watched him shine on stage, this night was the perfect reminder that sometimes the best stories come from the unexpected. It wasnât just about the twists and turns of their initial meeting; it was about the connections forged when they embraced things together. As Minghao finished with a flourish, the crowd erupted into applause, and Y/n couldn't help but wonder how many more surprises awaited them on this journey.
Day 9 - A Change of Heart
Determined to make a last-ditch effort to win her back, Minghao doubled down on his resolve. He sent her a series of texts brimming with encouragement, recounting the fun theyâd had the night before. âI never imagined Iâd be up on stage like that, but it was totally worth it,â he wrote, his fingers flying across the screen. âYou have this incredible way of bringing out the best and most ridiculous in people. I genuinely had a good time, especially seeing those fuckers in glitter pants.âÂ
He poured his heart into his messages, sharing how her laughter had ignited a spark within him, and how getting to know her was quickly becoming the highlight of his life. âYou made me feel brave, even while I was totally making a fool of myself,â he typed with a grin, imagining her laughter echoing in his ears. âAnd honestly, I wouldnât change a thing about it. Youâre amazing, Y/n.â
As the hours passed without a response, doubts started to creep into his mind. Had he gone too far with the whole bet thing? Would she take his lighthearted texts as desperation? But he couldnât shake the feeling of knowing there was something real between them.. So, he gathered his courage and decided to call.Â
When Y/n picked up the phone, her voice sounded bright but cautious. âHey, Minghao. Whatâs up?â
âY/n, Hi I donât know if you saw my texts, youâre probably busy, but I just wanted to check in after last night,â he replied, his heart racing. âI hope youâre still not too mad at me for the bet thing. I promise I didnât mean for it to be a setup. I actually really enjoyed being with you."
There was a momentary silence, and he held his breath, waiting for her response. âIâm not mad,â she finally said, her tone softening. âI thought it was an interesting twist, honestly. You had me laughing for hours after I got over it a little bit and after talking to your friends. But I just⊠didnât want to feel like I was part of some game.â
âI totally understand,â he said quickly, wanting to assure her. âIâm really sorry for how it started. But I want you to know that my feelings for you are genuine. I liked who I was with you last night and every night really , and I want to get to know you betterâlike, for real, not as a bet.âÂ
Y/n paused again, and he could almost hear her contemplating his words. âYou mean that?âÂ
âAbsolutely,â Minghao responded, feeling more confident. âI know we started under unusual circumstances, but every moment Iâve spent with you has felt real. You bring out a side of me I didnât really know I had, and I really love who I am when Iâm with you. So, what do you say? Can we start over?âÂ
He could hear her take a deep breath from the other end, and his heart raced in anticipation. âOkay, letâs do that,â she finally said, her voice brightening. âBut letâs be clear the only bets this time will be on actual games, not people's feelingsâ
Minghao laughed, relief washing over him. âDeal. Just me trying to impress you from now on.âÂ
âYou already have, that was your promise from the start and you followed through.â
As they chatted and made plans for their next outingâa casual coffee date, just like they first met no strings attachedâMinghao felt a renewed sense of hope. He was determined to show her that he was sincere, that the bet was just a silly beginning to what he hoped would be a beautiful journey together.
After they hung up, Minghao couldnât help but smile to himself. It wasnât just about winning her back; it was about starting anew, embracing the possibility of a real thing. And as excitement bubbled in his chest, he began to plan how he could make their next date unforgettable. After all, if Y/n could turn a wild bet into a night filled with laughter, he was ready to dive in and see where this newfound adventure would take them both.
Day 10 - The Second First Date.
As the days crept closer to their date, Minghao found himself overrun with excitement and nerves. He wanted everything to be perfect. Standing in front of his closet, he debated over his wardrobe, tossing shirts onto the bed haphazardly. He could feel the pressure mounting the stakes felt higher this timeânot just because he was going to see Y/n again, but because he wanted her to see him as more than just that guy than a guy who bet on her feelings.
Eventually, he settled on a casual but stylish outfit, one that he felt confident in. Being genuine was the goal, after all, and he didnât want to put on a facade. Just before he headed out the door, he glanced in the mirror, giving himself a final pep talk. âYouâve got this. Just be yourself.â
At the coffee shop, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the chatter of customers. Minghao arrived early, pacing a bit with anticipation. He chose the same cozy corner table her first noticed her at, where theyâd have some privacy but still be part of the lively atmosphere.Â
When Y/n walked in, his heart skipped a beat. She looked effortlessly beautiful, her hair cascading over her shoulders and a warm smile lighting up her face. She spotted him, her eyes sparkling with familiarity, and his nervousness began to fade away as she approached.
âHi, nice to meet you, youâre Minghao right?â she greeted, her voice filled with warmth.
âHey, yeah. Iâm glad you made it,â Minghao replied, standing to greet her. They exchanged a brief hug, and it felt surprisingly comfortable.
As they settled into their seats with steaming cups of coffee in hand, the conversation flowed naturally, as if theyâd never left off. They chatted about everything their favorite shows, upcoming plans, and the ridiculous things theyâd seen online lately. Laughter punctuated their discussion, the kind that made the world around them feel distant.
At one point, Y/n playfully leaned back in her chair, a mischievous glint in her eyes. âSo, tell meâwhatâs your strategy for impressing me today? More dance moves? Karaoke?â
Minghao laughed, feeling lighter than he had in days. âLetâs save the dancing for another time. Iâm still trying to recover from the last performance,â he said with a smirk. âBut I promise I have a few tricks up my sleeveânothing too embarrassing.â
âJust promise me no more betting, Iâm out of chips for now.â she said, stern but unable to hide her smile.
âCross my heart,â he promised dramatically, placing a hand over his chest. âFrom here on out, itâs just me and you having honest and genuine fun.â
Their coffees had transformed into connection, a beautiful blend of camaraderie and flirtation. As they moved towards dessert, Minghao felt a spark growing between them.Â
With a playful glint in his eye, he decided to take a leap. âSo, if weâre doing thisâlike, seeing where it goes, how about I take you on a mini-adventure next time? Something a little lessâŠtraditional?âÂ
Y/n raised an eyebrow, âAnd what exactly does that entail? You are not talking about hiking, or something like that right? I would kill you.âÂ
âAÂ little scavenger hunt around the city?â he suggested, warming to the idea. âWe could visit all the spots we love, and maybe even some new places. Get ice cream, take pictures, and just enjoy the day.â
Her face lit up with enthusiasm. âThat sounds amazing. I love it.â
Seeing her excitement filled him with joy; this felt right. With their coffee date unfolding so smoothly, he was beginning to understand that this was not just about rekindling a spark but about building something new.Â
As they wrapped up, Minghao walked her to her car, and the atmosphere felt electric. Before saying goodbye, he couldnât resist leaning in slightly. âIf I promise to make each outing better than the last, will you promise to keep coming back?â
Y/n looked at him, her expression softening. âI think I can manage that, if you also kiss meâ she replied, her smile brightening the evening.
With a renewed sense of hope, Minghao pulled her in from her waist kissing her multiple times before backing up slightly and letting her get into the driver's seat, she rolled down the window and wagged her finger at him for one more kiss, and then he watched her drive away, heart brimming with anticipation. He was ready to dive into this adventure, ready to explore whatever lay ahead with Y/n by his side. Their story was only just beginning, and for the first time in a long while, he felt like everything was falling into place.Â
Epilogue
The days that followed were an exciting blur of planning and anticipation. Minghao found himself digging into his old notebooks, jotting down ideas for the scavenger hunt, trying to think of all the little things that made their city special. He wanted to weave in personal touches that would make the day unforgettable for Y/nâplaces that could bring back memories of their first date or spots he knew would make her full of joy when he revealed them.
With each idea, he found he was not just planning an outing but also crafting an experience centered around her, and this realization filled him with a sense of purpose. Heâd always believed that little moments could mean everything, and now he was eager to show Y/n just how much he cherished their new relationship.
When the day of the scavenger hunt arrived, Minghao woke up with a mix of nerves and excitement. Heâd set everything in motion, and now all he needed to do was let the day unfold naturally. He picked a comfortable outfitâsomething relaxed but still appealingâand made his way to the meeting spot they had agreed on: a park that was alive with the sounds of laughter, children playing, and the distant strumming of a guitarist.
As he waited, he felt a buzz of anticipation in the air around him. The moment he spotted Y/n walking towards him, his heart soared. She looked radiant, her hair dancing in the breeze, and her smile lit up the entire park.Â
âHey, you.â she greeted, a lilt in her voice that made him grin wider.
âReady for a little adventure?â he asked, trying to mask the excitement bubbling beneath his calm exterior.
âAbsolutely. Just tell me what weâre doing,â she replied, eyes sparkling with curiosity.
âFirst off, we have to get our scavenger hunt gear,â he said, pulling out a small tote bag he had packed. Inside were colored pencils,a camera for taking photos at each stop, a notebook for jotting down clues, and a list of locations they'd be visiting.
âWhatâs all this?â she laughed, peering inside with delight.
âJust some supplies to help us document our adventureâ Minghao said cheerily. âThe first stop is that little coffee stand we found last week, where they have the pastries.â
With a shared laugh and playful banter, they made their way through the park, stopping for pictures at every significant spotâan old oak tree where they took selfies, a fountain that they threw pennies in while making a wish, and a mural that had caught Minghaoâs eye during their last outing. The connection between them deepened as they shared stories, memories, and more feelings than ever. As they reached the coffee stand, Minghao took a moment to watch her as she chose her pastry. She had a way of illuminating the boring everyday things, and he felt grateful every time she shot him a smile. After they got their treats, he pulled out the next clue.
âOkay, next up,â he said with excitement, glancing down at the list he had created. âWe have to find the spot where they sell the best ice cream in town. But thereâs a catchâyou have to lead the way.â
Y/n raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. âMe? Alright.. This should be interesting.â
With her leading the way, they began to navigate the streets, stopping to chat with street performers and peeking into quirky shops. As they reached the ice cream parlor, the enticing scent of waffle cones met them, and they quickly placed their orders.Â
âThat is definitely a win,â Minghao said, savoring the first bite of his matcha chocolate chip. He looked over to see Y/nâs eyes light up with delight as she tasted her basic but cute vanilla with sprinkles.
As they sat outside, sharing stories about their favorite childhood flavors, Minghao felt a warmth spreading in his chest. Each moment they shared layered on a sense of intimacy, deepening their bond.
The rest of the day continued in this delightful fashion, each stop on the scavenger hunt bringing them closer together, transforming their connection into something rooted in genuine affection. The final clue led them to an overlook, a perfect sunset view of the city sprawled out before them.
As they stood side by side, overlooking the vibrant hues of orange and pink washed across the sky, Minghao turned to her, feeling the weight of the moment.Â
âIâm really glad I took this leap,â he said, his voice sincere. âToday has been incredible. You make everything better, including me.â
Y/n looked at him, her expression softening. âI feel the same way. This day has been one of the best Iâve had in a long time. Really, thank you.â
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, he could feel the pull toward her. He brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and leaned in, capturing her lips in a gentle yet tender kiss. It was a clear promise of what was to comeânot just in this moment, but in all the moments yet to unfold.
Standing there, as the last light of day faded into twilight, Minghao felt a newfound certainty settle within him. This was just the beginning of a beautiful adventure with Y/n, and he was ready to explore every twist and turn that life had to offer together.
Minghao had set out to lose a girl in ten days but instead found something he never expected: a genuine connection. As he and y/n embarked on their new adventure as one and they both realized that sometimes love sneaks up on you when you least expect it, and sometimes, the risks of opening your heart are worth every moment.

A/N I'm back from the dead. Hi.
"Love you... Bye." Charlie hung up the phone.
Quietly, she slipped back inside the hotel, shutting the door behind her. Things had not gone as planned today and they had not gone well either. She wanted this hotel to work, more than anything in the world she wanted to do what she could for her people. At the same time, it was hard not to feel hopeless after the mess on TV earlier and the lack of response from her mother. Letting out a protected sigh, she shut her eyes, leaning against the door.
As soon as Charlie's back hit the stained glass paneling, there came a quiet knock. Opening her eyes, she pulled herself from the door and tentatively turned towards it. Hope and a twinge of fear battled for control of Charlie as, at the sound of the person knocking a second time, she opened the door.
"Hel-"
Charlie shut the door right in the Radio Demon's face. Brow furrowed with confusion, doubt at what she had seen obscuring her mind, she opened it again.
"-lo!"
Charlie shut the door once again. Turning slowly, her eyes wide and her mind whirling, she headed into the main sitting area of the lobby.
"Hey Vaggie?" Charlie called for her girlfriend as she entered.
"What?" Vaggie asked, throwing her head over the back of the couch she was resting on as she did so, meeting Charlie's anxious eyes.
"The Radio Demon is at the door!" Charlie replied, her tone hiding nothing as she mocked the demon's well known smile, pointing back to the hotel entrance.
Vaggie straightened up immedeatly.
"What!" she exclaimed.
Angel, who was sitting on the couch beside her enjoying a popsicle, looked over in mild confusion. Shrugging, he decided he didn't really care and returned to his treat.
"What should I do?" Charlie practically begged.
"Well, don't let him in." Vaggie almost seemed more stressed by the situation than her girlfriend.
Charlie sighed, turning to look back at the door. Slowly, ignoring Vaggie's protests, she approached it once again. Steeling herself, Charlie opened the door.
"May I speak now?" the Radio Demon asked.
Charlie crossed her arms over her chest, looking up at him with an unamused expression.
"You may."
The speed with which the demon shot out his hand to shake her own took Charlie aback.
"Alastor." he announced, bowing so that they were eye to eye, "Pleasure to be meeting you. Yes, quite the pleasure."
--
Y/n's life had changed a lot in the past seven years. From the top of Hell to the bottom, her own personal fall. Not that she'd ever really been at the top, no. Just next to it. The spotlight had never really been her thing.
Hell had been Y/n's home for nearly seventy years. The picture perfect housewife gone mad. In life, she had secured her place after death in blood. Abusive didn't look good on her dearly departed husband after all and what was the point of life if not ridding out the rot to save the flowers?
Death had not come easily or without pain. After the police had caught her, she'd been found innocent for reason of insanity in the courts and sent to an asylum. No one seemed to want to hear or believe her part of the story. Just a year or so after her husband's death, she found peace through a failed lobotomy in 1955 and woke up to red skies.
Thankfully, Hell was large and inhabited enough that she never seemed to run into him down here. Y/n wasn't proud of what she had done in life, but she didn't regret it either. The truth was, she loved Hell. It was vibrant and lively. It was interesting. She had quickly found friends, moved up in the world. Then, the world had changed.
Seven years nearly to the day. Things had been rough at first, there was a new way in which she had had to learn to interact with the world around her. That was when she'd met Blitzo, in those early days of being on her own. Y/n would've thanked god but, god didn't come around these parts and far too many awful things had happened since then anyways but, she still saw their meeting as an odd sort of blessing. She had never been very good at being alone and he did save her, in a way. Even gave her a job at I.M.P., his business.
It was odd for a sinner to be working subservient to an imp in Hell, but not unheard of. Y/n got some looks on the street, sure. Some clients asked some rude questions and she wasn't technically allowed in the human realm but, neither were any of them really. Overall, she found her new life to be quite enjoyable, the good with the bad. Not as cushy or pleasant as her old life, but she saw no use in dwelling on any of that. It had been seven years, for heaven's sake. She couldn't hold out hope for something that would clearly never happen. Besides, she had always had a bit of a mean streak and the job helped deal with that.
She was a sinner, it was obvious. About a head taller than Blitzo, she was a 1950s dream: all movie star hair and legs. When he had first joined I.M.P. a few years ago, she'd even worn the dresses to match. Once they started getting actual jobs, once Blitzo had found a way to travel to the human realm, that had changed. Y/n had seen the fashions of the knew world and enjoyed them quite a bit.
Rings on five of ten fingers, heaps of necklaces, even a tattoo or two. She topped off the whole look with black cargo pants, tank tops, and a choker with spikes and a ring on it. It all went rather well with the attributes she'd acquired once arriving in hell.
She come off lucky in regards to changes in her body when she had died. When people fell into the pits, they received attributes that somehow related to the person they were on earth as well as how they died. Y/n had been harmless on the outside, and able to cause real harm if pushed to it. Docile and gentle, but angry. So she'd ended up like this, with little freckles and a white dots of various sizes marring her now grey skin. Sweet little horns perched on the top of her head, a thin forked tail, and sharp teeth when she was provoked. It made sense, if it was a bit stereotypical. Overall, she couldn't complain.
She had been lying in bed in the apartment she now shared with Blitzo and Loona when she'd felt it in her bones. It was an odd sort of shiver that went down her spine, a tingle at the back of her head. The world had changed again. Y/n didn't know how she knew that, or why, or even in what ways things had become different, but laying there in the dark, something shifted.
She sat up, looking out the window over the darkened landscape of pentagram city. Off in the distance, she could just barley make out the lights of the Princess of Hell's new passion project, some rehab center for sinners or something of the like. Y/n let out a sigh.
The last time she felt this way, her whole life had fallen apart. As she laid back down, she couldn't help but pray to whoever was listening it wouldn't be happening again.

Zuko x reader - the right side
Hi! I just recently discovered your blog and Iâve been loving your writing so much! I would like to request a part two to your Zuko x Reader - The Right Side. Itâs so well done and Iâm curious to see what happens after Zuko and the reader reconnect :) - Anonđ
Part two:
He slowly stood up and stepped out from the group, he looked at you, and you stared at him intently. It made him shiver the way you looked at him.
Your gaze was so full of fury, hatred, sadness, betrayal.
So many things Zuko thought he would never see in your eyes again, he never thought it would ever be directed at him.
âWhy are you here?â You spat.
âIâm here to help, I swear. I want to teach Aang Fire bending.â He said
You scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest as you carried on gazing at him.
Zuko gulped a little as he dared to take a small step forward, and then another.
He kept going until you kicked your leg out, sending a line of fire directly in his path which he barely managed to dodge.
â(Y/N) donât!â Aang rushed out.
You turned to Aang, frowning heavily but you lowered your hands and took a few steps towards the avatar.
You were furious with Zuko, and they all knew it.
âGo calm down.â Katara whispered.
âCome on, Iâll come with you.â Toph said.
She led you a way from everyone and Zuko watched in sadness as you left.
âShe hates meâŠâ he mumbled.
âShe doesnât hate you, she just needs time, thatâs all.â Katara smiled.
âYeah, (Y/N) canât hate anyone, trust me!â Aang beamed.
Zuko looked over at them then turned to Sokka who gave a small shrug.
âIâll be honest, she could hate you. You nearly killed her, betrayed her and just left her. Sheâs pretty mad man.â
âSokka!â Katara hissed.
âNo, no. I need to hear the truth.â Zuko said softly.
Zuko left, and for the rest of the night no one saw him, or you or Toph.
The earth bender came back before you, saying that you decided to head back to your room last night and she decided to go to bed, but she hadnât heard from you since then.
Everything went to hell pretty quickly, from the killer Zuko hired showing up, and Azula appearing out of nowhere you guys had to fight for your lives to get out.
And you decided to sit up with Aang away from the fire Prince.
âJust talk to him.â Aang spoke softly.
âNot a chance.â
â(Y/N) heâs really trying. He feels bad for what he did and he wants to apologise, the first step to moving forward is to forgive.â
âI love you Aang, but youâre to oblivious to how to world works. Itâs all good and well to pretend everything can be fixed with a simply apology but it canât.â
Aang sighed, turning to look at you.
âYouâre right, it canât. But itâs a start, right? It will be great to be able to take some of that weight from your shoulders and throw it away. No one says you have to talk to him after that, you just have to hear him out.â
âIâm sorry Aang, but no.â
Even as you guys landed, he tried to keep convincing you to talk to Zuko, but you werenât having it.
Sokka and Toph had asked asked you to just listen to what Zuko had to say, though Tophâs only reason was so she didnât have to hear him complaining about it anymore.
Katara came over and sat next to you on the rock you had perched yourself on.
âIf youâre here to tell me to forgive Zuko donât bother.â
âIâm not.â
You turned to her slightly shocked.
âI understand why youâre angry, why you donât want to talk to him or forgive him. You donât have to do anything youâre not comfortable with.â
âThanks Katara.â You smiled.
She nodded and left, and you carried on looking out over the horizon.
Someone else sat next to you and immediately you stood up and started to walk away.
âPlease! Iâll do anything! Just let me explain!â He begged.
âYou want me to listen to you? Fine. I challenge you to an Agni kai.â You snapped.
âNo!â Aang yelled.
The trio rushed over, trying to stop what was about to happen.
âIf thatâs what you want then okay. I accept.â Zuko nodded.
No one could stop this, they knew the rules, they couldnât stop it, they couldnât help either of you, they just had to watch it play out.
And they knew there was only so many outcomes.
Either you hurt Zuko bad enough for him to feel your pain, or you would be so blinded but your anger for him you would try your best to kill him.
You and Zuko stood opposite each other, and you stripped yourself of Irohâs cloak before handing it to Katara to look after.
âPlease go easy.â She whispered.
Saying nothing, you stepped back in front of Zuko, and he just stared at you.
You threw the first attack, pushing your hands forward to create a massive surge of flames straight at the Prince.
He easily deflected your attack, and carried on standing there, so you attacked again.
Kicking your leg in the air you sent attack after attack after attack.
All of which he deflected.
âFight me you coward!â You yelled.
âNo.â
You yelled and ran over to him, attempting to punch him but he dodged it, and so you tried to knock his legs from under him, but he dodged that as well.
âFight me!â
âNo! I wonât hurt you!â He yelled.
Zuko breathed heavily as he dodged your attacks.
Usually you were so well coordinated, you thought your attacks out carefully that you were able to knock him down easily.
But this time you were so blinded by your emotions that you were just attacking blindly, you were messy and desperate.
âWhy wonât you fight me!?â
âBecause I refuse to hurt you!â
Zuko grabbed your arm as you lunged at him, spinning you around so you were behind him and let go.
You stumbled a few steps and turned around.
You were heaving for air, hands on your knees as your eyes locked with his.
âWhy not? You already have, May as well finish the job right?â You sneered.
âN..no.. no thatâs not what I wantâŠâ
You scoffed, rolling your eyes as you turned around and started to walk away.
âFine.â
Zuko sighed with relief, as did everyone else.
The battle was over, Zuko never once threw an attack, and you had finally called it off as you started to walk away.
In a split second, you spun around, kicking your leg up in the air, you sent a rope of fire at Zuko.
He barely managed to dodge it thanks to everyone calling his name, and he fell to the floor.
Running over, you took a deep breath and stared down at him as you stood above him.
Slowly you raised your hand towards the sky, crackling sounding at the tips of your fingers, and blue lightening started to build up.
â(Y/N) NO!â Sokka yelled.
âDONT!â Aang and Katara begged.
Toph tried to put up a wall between you and the Prince but she couldnât, you were stood right over him, and she couldnât put the earth between you both.
Zuko looked between you and the lightening in pure horror.
For you to do this it meant that you were sound of mind, you knew what you were doing, and you knew exactly what it was you were about to do as well.
As you stared at Zuko, you could register the fear in his eyes, the fear and regret.
The same thing you felt on that night he had attacked you, the pure fear running through your veins.
You had promised yourself you would never hurt anyone, you swore to yourself that you would protect people and keep them safe.
âIf you want to do this⊠then thatâs okayâŠâ Zuko whispered.
You pointed your other hand at him, the charge was nearly finished.
Zuko gave you a sad and broken smile.
âTell uncle Iâm sorryâŠâ
He closed his eyes and something in your snapped.
There was a loud crash, and everyone slowly opened their eyes to see what horror waited before them.
The trees in front of you had been blow down, a small fire in the centre where the blast was aimed.
You had fallen to your knees over Zuko.
He was still pinned below you, your knees rested on the dirt and you had your head cast down.
Zuko flinched when he felt something fall on his face, and he opened his eyes when he felt it again.
His eyes gazed up at yours, watching as the tears slowly slipped free as you stared at him in pure horror.
His heart pounded in his chest, his breathing was ragged and he was shaking.
Your tears fell on his face as you slowly fell to the side, resting your hands in your knees as you bowed your head down to hide your face.
âIâm.. Iâm a monsterâŠâ you chocked out.
You swore youâd never hurt anyone, youâd protect people and keep them safe.
And out of pure, unresolved emotion you nearly killed Zuko.
You nearly killed a person.
A person you once trusted with your very life, a person who you had grown up with and whom you loved with your whole heart.
And he nearly died by your very hand.
Slowly Zuko sat up, turned to look behind him at what was left of the trees before he turned to you.
He reached out and hesitated, then finally reached out fully, placing his hand on your head before he quickly pulled you into him.
You wrapped your arms around Zuko, all the hatred and anger you felt was gone, you were scared, upset, ashamed.
Your fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt as you cried into his shoulder.
He held you tightly against his chest, burying his face into your neck as he let a few tears slip free.
Aang and Katara ushered Sokka and Toph away, leaving the pair of you alone.
The worst of it was over now, whatever happened now was up to whatever you and Zuko decided to do about what had happened on that night

Iâm having thoughts again (the horror). You may have answered this before and I just canât remember or find it buuuuuut
Is/was there ever a dragon in Hels? If there was could they spawn it in again or is she just dead?
âa dragon?â the player huffs a laugh, giving you an odd look. âyou know dragons arenât real, right? itâs just fantasy shit, like the sun and moon.â they shrug. âanyway, uh, if- if youâre not gonna buy somethinâ then stop wasting my fucking time and get the hell out.â
~*~
âah, i see youâre a fellow intellectual.â the player nods sagely. âdata analysis has found plenty of evidence supporting the existence of an âend dragonâ, through communicator codes such as ID tags for items called âdragonâs breath,â âdragon headâ, and âdragon eggâ, not to mention the achievement âfree the endâ, which is supposedly earned after slaying this dragon. so while we can only extrapolate so much from nonfunctional comm commands, iâd say the idea of a dragon existing in other worlds is quite substantiated.â
they pause.
âdid hels ever have one? well, thatâs the question, isnât it. while the existence of glitched end chunks throughout hels has been proven on multiple occasions, no oneâs ever found an end island with the obsidian pillars required to spawn and sustain a dragon. of course, itâs possible someone found it long ago and destroyed it, or perhaps no oneâs found it yet, or perhaps it exists in a different form entirely. if you look at how biomes spawn in helsâŠâ
~*~
âwhat, hels ainât bad enough for you as it is?â the player wheezes, shaking their head. âkid, if thereâs a dragon in hels, youâre better off if you never meet it. we got enough problems without throwinâ a damned dragon into the mix, ya hear?â
~*~
ânever heard of such a thing. seems like nonsense.â the player hefts their axe onto their shoulder. ânow, move along before i kill you.â
~*~
âthere was a dragon in hels, yeah,â the player says nonchalantly. âthis old player took me in when i was a kid, used to tell me stories. i mean, he never saw it. it was more of a âi know this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who knew this guy who heard that someone saw itâ kinda deal⊠well? do you wanna hear it or not?â
they smirk.
â⊠thatâs what i thought. so yeah, it was this massive red dragon- or uh, maybe it was like orange with red flames on its scales, fucking sick, right- with huge teeth and insane fire breath and⊠actually, it mightâve been acid? or poison? fuck, whatever, the point is that the thing was nasty, alright, it used to swoop down on the early settlements and mow those motherfuckers down, eating players- or, wait, i think maybe it would just throw them? uh, i dunno how but- wait, where you goinâ? hey, this is valuable information, you know! ⊠fine, whatever, asshole.â
~*~
âhow the hel should i know?â the player demands, folding their arms. âthis worldâs infinite and old as balls, and we donât exactly have a consistent method of widespread information distribution. someone couldâve killed it yesterday and iâd have no fucking clue.â
~*~
âyeah, there was.â the player nods. âit was before my time, but i heard our admin killed it. whoever the fuck they were⊠makes no difference to me, but itâs a cool thought, right?â
~*~
âhm. been a long time since someone asked me that.â the player leans forward, eyes flickering in the firelight. their gaze is haunted. âare you sure you wanna know?â
they pause.
â⊠alright, then.â
ânow, this was back in the early days of hels, long enough ago that some of the oldest players still remembered havinâ an admin. we didnât even know âbout the end chunks. then one day, there was this sound. every player in the world heard it, no matter where they were. it was louder than any thunderstorm, louder than any explosion- the kinda sound that goes clean through you, splits your ears and rattles your bones.â
âit was a scream, only not like any iâd ever heard before. there was a raw, guttural quality to it- like a wounded animal- yet the power was undeniable. but there was some distortion to it as well; an underpinning of static like the whole thing was beinâ broadcast through a beat-up jukebox. just thinkinâ of it sends chills down my spine.â
âthen a peculiar thing popped up in chat. someone had made an achievement, only we couldnât tell who or what. all the text was scrambled, like those funny words you see on an enchantment table. never met anyone who could read it. but needless to say, this sparked an entire movement bent on discoverinâ what the hell had happened.â
âsome of the more adventurous players went explorinâ and found the end chunks. players who knew a thing or two about data analysis started huntinâ through their comms, usinâ the data of an endstone block someone brought back. didnât take long after that to figure it out.â
âthey found there was a dragon that belonged to a separate realm from overworld and nether. the end, they surmised. yâknow, where endermen came from. the dragon lived there, sustained by end crystals that were said to float atop obsidian pillars on the end island it called home- its nest, as it were. so, unsurprisingly, it was called the ender dragon.â
âand if you killed it, you opened a portal. where itâd lead was anyoneâs guess, but it was a way out of hels.â
âi was young, then. young and hungry. i banded up with some other players and we consulted an expert- the founder of data analysis, actually- to extrapolate the coordinates for the main end island. only he didnât find just one; he found ten sets of coords, spread out over hundreds of thousands of blocks, nearly a million blocks. he predicted that each obsidian pillar had spawned on a separate end chunk, and that each one would have to be tracked down to kill the dragon. we had to destroy the crystals first, you see. he thought it was a waste of time, a foolâs errand, but we didnât listen. so we split up, takinâ one set of coords each, and set off.â
âthey were all âbout the same distance from each other, so no one had an easier go of it. i took one northeast of spawn, seven hundred and twenty-nine thousand blocks out. the journey took years. not sure exactly how many, i stopped keepinâ count sometime after the fifth. the other players on the mission gradually stopped replyinâ to my whispers- i think some of âem gave up and turned back. wasnât sure if i was the only one still goinâ, âtil i eventually saw their death messages in chat, one by one. mobs, lava, fall damage, the usual. some mightâve died on the way; traversinâ hels alone on foot is no cake walk, even without the concern of PVP. never heard from any of âem again.â
âbut iâd gone so far that givinâ up wasnât an option. even if no one else had made it to their pillar and destroyed the crystal, even if killinâ the dragon would be impossible, i had to see it through. so i kept goinâ. it was a lonesome existence, beinâ that far from spawn; i went months without sayinâ a single word, at times, damn near lost my mind. but it werenât all bad. i reached the unloaded chunks, saw naturally-spawned passive mobs for the first time in my life. i saw rare biomes iâd never heard of, even came across one of those glitched end ships with an elytra. journey went quicker, after that, but it was still several years before i finally reached the coords.â
âthe pillar was exactly what youâd expect. a tall, round obelisk made of solid obsidian, rooted on a floatinâ chunk of an endstone island. there were some endermen millinâ about the place, far more than in any other biome iâd seen- âcept maybe the warped jungles- but no sign of the dragon. the crystal was at the very top of the pillar in an iron cage, so i flew on up there, thinking at least iâd do what i came to do.â
âsoon as i set foot on the top of the pillar, i heard a strange sound. it was that little zippinâ sound you hear when an enderman teleports- only it was a louder, deeper, slower sound that seemed to shake the world. like i could actually hear the distortion of space and time itself. the air suddenly filled with a haze of purple particles, so thick i could hardly see, move, or breathe.â
âand then she appeared.â
âthe dragon was all black, black as the void âneath bedrock, with spines down her back and huge, bat-like wings, deadly sharp teeth and claws. she was big enough to swallow me whole and we both knew it. but what really put me off was that she was glitched.â
âitâs the best way i can describe it. her body was flickerinâ around all crazy-like as if iâd gone cross-eyed, so she appeared in multiples at times, countless wings unfurlinâ from the distorted mass. anywhere i looked directly at her would suddenly seem⊠pixelated, almost, like her form was fracturinâ into pieces, like i couldnât fully âpreciate the whole. but i remember her eyes. they were pure white, so bright it hurt to look at âem, and as she moved they seemed to blink in and out of existence around her, like they couldnât quite settle in her skull. like twinklinâ stars against the night sky, beyond the bedrock ceiling.â
âshe was beautiful.â
âthe dragon perched against the tower, claws grippinâ the obsidian on either side of me, curled her slender neck down âtil we were face-to-face, and roared. it had that same quality as that sound iâd heard all those years ago, and i knew at once itâd been her death rattle. in my daze, i remember wonderinâ who couldâve possibly managed to kill such a creature? what kinda player would even want to?â
âiâd been well-prepared for the fight. full enchanted gear, potions, gapples. but starinâ up at her, i couldnât bring myself to use any of it. i just stared at her, caught in a moment that felt like an eternity as she stared back, before i realized her breath was poison.â
âi ended up back at the world spawn. didnât matter iâd set a respawn anchor nearby the end island- this seemed to overwrite it. lost everythinâ, of course, but i didnât care. my death message in the chat was glitched, too, in that same strange language. now, i didnât share my experience with the rest of the world; only to those who asked, and only in the hopes of dissuadinâ them from makinâ an attempt of their own.â
âwhich brings us to the end.â the player finally sits back, studying you with a shrewd gaze. ânow, you listen to me. that dragon ainât somethinâ to be killed, understand?â
you nod.
âgood.â the playerâs expression changes. âso, iâm afraid youâre not gonna like the next part of the story. but nothinâs free in this world, least of all knowledge.â
the player moves, thereâs a flash of metal, and suddenly thereâs a sword in your gut. engrossed in the story, you hadnât even noticed them equip it.
âsorry,â the player tells you with a grin, âbut that dragon ainât the only monster here. send my regards to spawn.â
as darkness consumes you, your last thought is that the white spots dancing across your vision suddenly look like dragon eyes, blinking from the void.

do you know or have thoughts on why the dm characters sometimes reference âhellâ (as in âwhat the hell?â) given how the series handles religion? is that an anime thing or translation thing orâŠ???
This is such a great question, and fun to answer, so thank you for writing to me!!! I think there's two things happening at the same time: What does hell really mean in English, and what are the characters actually saying in the original Japanese?
If the characters say hell in the original manga or in any translations, I think it is pretty safe to assume that they aren't referring to the Christian hell specifically, since it doesn't appear to exist in the Dungeon Meshi world. They are instead referring to the generic concept of a hell.
NON-CHRISTIAN HELLS
Hell is a word that can refer to a "bad afterlife" in many different world cultures. Obviously all of these cultures have their own names for these places, but when they are translated into English they are frequently referred to as "Buddhist hell", "Hindu hell", "Nordic hell", etc.
The word "hell" was adopted by Christians to describe something in their religion, but does not originate with them.
The modern English word hell is derived from Old English hel, to refer to a nether world of the dead. The word has cognates in all branches of the Germanic languages, and they all ultimately derive from the reconstructed Proto-Germanic feminine noun xaljĆ or haljĆ ('concealed place, the underworld'), and can be traced back even further to Proto-Indo European.
When the Germanic peoples were converted to Christianity, the word "hell" was adopted to refer to the Christian underworld. Before that time, hell was called many different things by the Christians, including "Sheol" (grave, death, pit, underworld), "Gehenna" (valley of wailing), "Hades" or "Tartarus." (The first two are Hebrew words, and the latter two are Ancient Greek. All of these words are attempting to describe similar things, a bad afterlife.) These Germanic cultures (most of Northern, Western and Central Europe) are the primary cultural influence of Dungeon Meshi's Eastern and Northern Continents, where the story takes place, and where most of the characters are from. So the word hel/hell would be native to the region, and logical for the characters to use both as a swear word, and also as a reference to whatever afterlife they might believe in.
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY SAYING THOUGH?
Dungeon Meshi is, for better or for worse, written in standard, contemporary Japanese, without any particular emphasis or attempt to sound "old fashioned" or like it is "fantasy", so any changes or additions made in translation to make the dialog or narration sound that way are just that: additions and changes. The changes made during translation aren't inherently bad, but the original text is very neutral, and open to interpretation. For example, Yaad calls Laios "tono/dono" in Japanese, which is an honorific that has no direct English equivalent, but is used between two people of similar social status, when one wants to be extra polite to the other. It does not imply nobility, but respect higher than "mister" and lower than "lord." Most English translations have rendered this as "Sir Laios" which isn't literally what Yaad says, but conveys the idea with something that "feels right" for the setting. It may be that in Dungeon Meshi the characters are literally saying the English word "hell/heru" in Japanese (ăă«), the word jigoku (ć°ç), which is the Japanese word for Buddhist hell, another word for a specific different underworld or afterlife, they are saying a Japanese swear word, or just using casual/impolite language that doesn't have a direct translation into English, and so needs to be localized into something that will make sense in English.
The last one is most likely what is happening, and I can think of a couple of common phrases that would most likely be translated into "What the hell?":
The polite, neutral way to say "What's that?" or "What [should I] do?" is "Nan-darou? (ăȘăă ăă?) or "Nani?" (äœ), which just means "What?"
The more casual, aggressive, masculine way of saying it is "Nani-kore?" (ăȘă«ăăïŒ) which doesn't mention hell in any way, but translates to something like "What the hell?" or "What the fuck?" It's more rude because it's casual speech, but doesn't literally use words for hell or fuck in it. It technically means the same thing as "Nan-darou?" or "Nani?" But translating it the same way would be ignoring the context and tone of the words.
Another thing that's often said in Japanese is "Uso!" (ăăïŒ) Which literally means "lie" or "not true", but in conversation itâs often used to say things like "you're lying!", "For real?!", "really?", or "No way!"
Often these exclamations of "Uso!" don't have anything to do with lying or untruths, they are meant to express surprise (this can't be happening!) or a response to someone talking about an outrageous and terrible event they experienced, like saying "No way! I can't believe that happened to you!" It's also sometimes translated as "What the hellâŠ" or "UnbelievableâŠ"
If the translators tried to keep this sort of thing literal, the manga would be full of lines like:
CHILCHUCK, running for his life from a mimic: What's this?! (Nani-kore?!) (He isn't literally asking what the mimic is, he is expressing surprise, so he should shout some curse words in English like hell, fuck, shit, etc.)
MARCILLE, horrified by the chimera: Lie! (Uso!) (She isn't just saying the word "lie" with no context, she is expressing shock, horror and disbelief at what she sees, so she should say something like "No, that can't be..." or "Impossible...")
I am not an expert in Japanese, but I hope that all of this is helpful to you, anon, and anyone else that's interested in this sort of thing!

WHO DID THIS TO YOU?
First Years/Prefect Romantic Poly (Deuce Centric)
===================
The Prefect knew that their lovers were going to raise hell when they finally got back from club.
Grim was going to raise hell.
There was going to be a lot of hell raising going on and the Prefect didnât really know what to do about it or really if they should.
It wasnât like they liked pain. They were a normal, everyday kind of person that tried their best to avoid it. And they werenât so altruistic that they wanted to start a fight with their lovers to protect the assholes that had hit them.
But wellâŠtheir lovers could take it a bit far.
Sevens, any of their friends would take it far and it was a miracle that they managed to get back to Ramshackle without anyone else seeing them in this state.
The last time someone had laid a hand on them â and they had tried to fight back, really! But the Octavinelle student was like, twice their size! Bigger than Floyd even! â Sebek had nearly killed the guy and it was only Malleus pulling strings and Lillia making points of Crowley not protecting his students to get their half-fae off with just a month of detention and no criminal record.
Unfortunately they werenât exactly in a state capable of hiding what had been done and they wouldnât lie to their lovers like that anyway.
They just wished they could break it to them a little easier and with forewarning. Trying to message them, though, or call would cause the same kind of panic either way, though, so there was nothing they could do but wait.
The Prefect was just starting to work themself up into a fit of anxiety when they heard the front door open.
âAnata?â Deuceâs voice called from the entrance as they heard him shuffling around to toe off his shoes and set his track bag down near the closet to take back with him to Heartslabyul later.
âAa, welcome back Deuce.â They managed, standing from the sofa and shifting nervously, glad that at least they had had time to change out of the bloody clothes.
âPractice ended a little early. Jack is on his way he just had to-âŠâ Deuce froze when he stepped into the lounge and caught sight of them, the water bottle in his hand clattering to the floor.
The Prefect winced slightly at the horror and anguish that was quickly giving way to guilt in their loverâs sea blue eyes, hating that even more than anything else.
âIâm alright, itâs justâŠâ but they let their words trail off as the other took numb steps to meet them before ever so gently reaching his hands to cup their face.
He touched them like they were made of glass as his eyes traveled over the already darkening black eye and the split lip that had only just minutes ago stopped bleeding. There were other bruises and scrapes â one on their jaw and another on their cheek bone on the same side as the black eye â but those were the worst.
âWho did this to you?â he whispered, his brow furrowed and broken in a way that the Prefect hated hearing.
Hated the guilt laced liberally throughout and how they always seemed to be a cause of pain for their lovers simply because they werenât able to protect themselves against the students that saw them as an insult and weak target.
They were a weak target.
They were weak and magicless and didnât even belong in that world.
It wasnât surprising that they were a target.
But they wished they were able to at least protect themselves enough to not cause the people they cared about to hurt as if they felt every hit on their own body instead.
Words caught in their throat and they swallowed thickly, trying to push back the tears. They hadnât cried when they had been thrown to the ground or when they had to cover their head to protect from the vicious kicks. Tears would have only made it worse and they didnât want to give that kind of satisfaction to the assholes.
Deuce watched them struggling, watched them try to blink away the tears unsuccessfully and how their split lip trembled as they tried to find their voice through the pain and helplessness they clearly still felt.
His expression hardened, eyes narrowing and teeth gritting as a snarl pulled on his lips.
His voice was just as soft as moments before but now it was shaky in a barely contained rage that they could feel through his trembling fingers still oh so gently cupping their face.
âWho did this to you?â
They told him.
Deuceâs eyes flashed and he leaned forward to press the softest of kisses against their forehead, a silent promise.
âJack will be home in a minute. Lock the door behind me.â He said before turning and storming out, hands already clenched into fists and prepared to return every bruise on their Prefect with ten of his own.
The Prefect watched him go, didnât try to stop him as they knew it was pointless. Instead they closed the door like Deuce said and locked it before pulling out their phone and texting Ace and Sebek. They would be the closest ones to be able to find Deuce the fastest and hopefully prevent the worst as their lover was planning on taking on a fight of three on his own.
Hopefully Ace and Sebek would be able to get there before Deuce killed anyone.

33 | Chillin
Series: Unexpected
Paring: (Matt Sturniolo x OFC Brock!) (Chris Sturniolo x OFC Brock!)
Word Count:Â 1.1k
Warnings: underage drinking
| MASTERLIST |
"You don't know how much I need this break." Dani tells Sam, as they spend time in the hot tube "Away from the boys and here with no Colby to bug me. So if you take his place as a protective brother, I will kick your ass."
"But that's my other role to you." He laughs.
"Sammy please..." She begs him.
"I'll be your best bud tonight."
"I would appreciate that very much. I need it," She tells him, meaning it, "I'll even tell you everything you want to ask me. But you gotta win." She tells him getting ready for rock, paper, scissors.
"Got it." He gets ready, " Rock, paper, scissors, gun. Boom! Get wrecked." He cheers, "So who do you have a crush on?" He asks her wanting a answer.
"Before I answer, I wanna know who do you think I do? I'm very curious."
"You really gonna tell me?" He asks surprised.
"I seriously will."
"I honestly think... It's Matt." He tells her.
"Not Chris?" She asks him.
"Matt makes more sense."
"What fully makes you say that though?" She asks curious.
"I don't know. Just does. Doesn't it?" He watches her, "I know I'm right. I see it on your face." He leans closer to look at her eyes smiling.
"You're team Matt?" She laughs.
"You like him."
"Sam, I'm trusting you with my whole life on not telling Colby any of this." She grabs his arm.
"Our secret. I got you, girl." He takes her hand shaking on it before they hug.
"This is why you are the best person in the world. I love you so much."
"You're my favorite Brock anyways." He tells her getting out of the hug.
"Colby would kill me if he heard that." Dani laughs pouring him a shot.
"And he would kill me if he knew I was letting you drink."
"I can't get in trouble since we're not out drinking. And it's not like I'm telling." She adds, "So any other questions, you'd like to ask? I'm open."
"Which is odd." Sam gives her a look.
"Cause I trust you when it's just us." She tells him truthfully because she did trust him.
"Are you gonna make the first move or?" He asks.
"Do you think I should?"
"Tease him, make him jealous." He claps his hands.
"I don't know what to do." She whines. "Fuck, Marry, Kill?" She asks him for their next round he lost.
"With who?" He gives her a look.
"Colby, me, and Nate."
"What the hell?" He laughs.
"You saw me answer mine with the triplets. You even texted me thanking me for choosing you to marry." She laughs as well. They play another round and Sam loses again, "Dude, Sam, babe, you suck at this." She laughs at him, "Let's close our eyes and see if we can clap at the same time."
"One, two, three." They wait a few seconds before clapping at the same time and cheer.
"We are the better Golbach and Brock duo."
"Hell yeah! Let's get married." He says and they both laugh.
"The dream team." They hug it out.
"Fucking Colby though." He laughs.
"Since you're hooking up with my brother, I'm gonna live with my other husband and his brothers." Dani plays around.
Sam loses another round of rock, paper, scissors and he loses it a bit, "How are you?" He shouts.
"I'm gonna have to tuck you into bed at this rate." Dani laughs pouring him another shot.
"You're actually a wizard Harry. Are you a wizard?" Sam leans close wanting an answer.
"I've been studying witchcraft." She plays along and gives him a look so he laughs.
"Rock, Paper, Scissors." Sam loses once again, "God Dang It!" He grabs her, "I'm gonna kill you." She laughs wrapping her arms around him before walking them over to his shot to take. "Next one, let's go. Let's get this over with."
"Are you gonna cry?" Dani laughs pointing at his glossy eyes.
"Rock, paper, scissors, shoot."
"Fuck you!" Sam flips her off as she cracks up. "How?" He didn't get it.
As Dani gets him another shot she changes the topic, "Are we sure Matt likes me too?" She looks over at him.
"100% positive." Once again another round of Sam losing makes him scream out, "What the hell? How Dani?" He walks to the other side of the hot tube.
"What if he's just a really good friend?" She stays on the topic so Sam walks back over to her.
"I will reach out to him right now and ask him till he gives me an answer." He tells her the pretends to call Matt on his imaginary phone, "You tell me right now if you have a crush on our girl Dani."
"Umm, let's not do that at all." Dani laughs before taking a shot herself just so Sam isn't left out. "Maybe I should keep my crush to myself."
"No, Dani, you should try to see. You really like him." He tries to help her get the courage to do so, "Or you can...be alone." He says going to sit on the steps.
"I'm just scared of fucking something up, you know?" She tells him and sees him start to fake cry, "Are you pouting because I might not do it?"
He looks over at her, "If you don't do it, I will hint at it." He smiles going up to her hugging her from behind poking her sides.
"No the hell you aren't Sam."
"Then you have to." He smiles leaning over her shoulder to smile at her.
~
"My weekend was good. Just hung out with Sam." Dani chills with Nick in her car.
"That's nice. I had to hear the two bicker all weekend." Nick tells her annoyed a bit with his brothers.
"Bicker about what?" Dani asks curious.
"You, just you." He sighs, "All damn weekend long, Dani."
"Great... So thanks for telling me. So I am causing problems between them."
"Not necessarily. It's just, Matt thinks Chris will chicken out." He says confusing her.
"Chicken out on what?" She gives him a look, "Don't tell me he's gonna make a move!" She covers her face.
"So obviously you don't like him like that." Nick laughs at her reaction, "I finally know that now bitch." He laughs since she has never giving him any clues on if her like either Chris or Matt. "So what the hell are you gonna do if he does ask you out? Say no or twist it? Like say; I'm free to hangout."
"I hate how Sam and I didn't go over this scenario. All that talk about Matt for what." Dani says without realizing that she just slipped she liked Matt to Nick. Both say silent for a few seconds with Dani oblivious and Nick smiling at her before it hits her, "You didn't hear any of that come out of my mouth."
"It's not like I'm gonna say anything." He lets her know.
"No, no, I know you won't but I didn't want you to know."
"My lips are sealed, Dani." He promises not to tell.

Lucifer couldnât explain it. Heâd never been unable to breathe before.
Dying wasnât exactly an option for himâoutside of certain⊠unconventional circumstances. But this was different. This was a suffocating, ominous weight pressing down on him, stealing the air from his lungs. He couldnât name the feeling, yet it gnawed at him, the dreadful certainty that he was about to lose something irreplaceable. The world felt as if it were tilting on its axis, his heart fracturing before he even understood why.
Heâd been in Hell, surveying his domain, trying to shake the sensation clawing at the edges of his mind. But then he heard itâthunderous roars that echoed through realms, her beloved pets warning of danger afoot, primal and foreboding. It was in that moment that realization struck, sharp and cold. He knew. He knew where the feeling was coming from.
"Hel," he whispered, fear lacing her name. And then he flew, his wings tearing through the air with a speed born of desperation, shattering the barrier between realms. He arrived at her side with a single cry, "Hel!"
She lay unconscious, crumpled like a fragile thing in the grasp of some cruel twist of fate. Towering over her was a man, a figure cloaked in shadow and authority. Lucifer didnât hesitate. Without a thought for his own safety, he dropped to his knees at her side, his hands trembling as he cupped her face.
"Hel, Hel," he murmured, his voice raw, a plea painted in desperation. "Talk to me. Please."
When she didnât respond, his attention snapped upward, his gaze locking on the figure above. His expression hardened, his body coiling with barely restrained fury.
"What did you do?" he spat, the accusation in his voice sharp enough to cut. Anger radiated off him, his feathers bristling, his body poised for a fight. Every nerve screamed that this was itâthe cruel fate Hel had feared, the threat she had confided in him about.
And now it was happening. Right here. Right now.
Luciferâs mind raced, yet clarity shone through the haze of rage and fear. Somewhere, deep down, he had known this moment would come. Helâs warnings, her premonitionsâthey had always lingered at the back of his mind. But he had refused to believe. Not her. Not them.
But here it was.
And if this was how it ended, then so be it. If this was the way he met his end, he would go without regret. His eternal existence would have meaning, because he was fighting for someone who mattered. No, someone he loved.
The realization hit him like a thunderclap, but it didnât slow him. With a flick of his wrist, the demon daggers materialized in his hands, their edges gleaming with hellfire. Theyâd served him faithfully for eons, and now, they would serve again.
But then, he saw itâthe patch over the manâs eye.
Lucifer froze. His breath caught in his throat as realization dawned, colder and sharper than the blade in his hand.
"Odin."
The name fell from his lips, a whisper of fear and awe intertwined. His rage faltered, replaced by the icy grip of recognition. This wasnât just another god. This was the god, the Allfather himself.
And Lucifer knew, in this moment, that the stakes had never been higher.

Hel
Drop: -10:00:00
The Seraph died, torso armor and cockpit ravaged by PPC blasts and LB 10-X auto cannon rounds. Owen switched targets, raking a Deva with his ER Medium Lasers. The enemy mech responds with a Gauss rifle slug which slams into the left leg of Owenâs mech. He grunts with the neural feedback of the damage dealt. Quickly checking his armor, he was relieved to see that the round hadnât penetrated the armor.Â
âAtta girl, Katherine, gonna take more than that to take you out.â He grins at the chime indicating his ER PPCs are recharged. âMy turn!â
The twin PPC bolts snap out with thunder cracks, blasting into the Devaâs right arm, tearing away armor and hopefully, damaging the Gauss Rifle there.
Seconds later, the arm explodes, the Gauss rifle evidently having been damaged enough to overload. The Deva staggers, allowing Anya to light the other mech up with her Clan Pulse Laser, and Clan Medium Lasers, green and blue beams cutting into its armor in multiple places. It swings, and fires its Light PPCs at the Thunderbolt, two missing and one blasting into Anyaâs torso armor. Owen hears the small sharp intake of breath over the comms. It pays for this damage by catching a LB 10-X slug to the cockpit fired by Owen. The enemy mech shudders, and then slumps over into the side of a nearby building.
âYou ok Major?â He asks.
âYeahâŠfuck that hurtâŠâ Anya replies. âBut Iâve still got armor, Iâm good.â She sounds tired.
âChrist we all are.â Owen thought. The fighting had been fierce, and nearly constant since they landed. The city, a small place named LâAnerie, had turned into a near constant running battle between Barghest Company and Fursona's Fusiliers, and the Word of Blake. The city was a maze of buildings just tall enough to obscure sight lines more than a few blocks, and it seemed like it was filled to the brim with enemy mechs, weapon emplacements and ambushes. They had lost several Fusiliers to Heavy Level IIâs lying in wait, and several of his own mechs are badly mauled. Billyâs Archer is missing an arm and the LRM launcher in one side torso, and Vanceâs Thugâs damaged leg is now almost locked up. Not to mention all of his mechs have had their armor savaged. And the ammo situationâŠ
Owen sighed a bit. He always knew it would be a bad one.Â
Still.
In the next street over, Victoria and Vance have brought down an Archangel with Kei providing large laser and missile fire. Victoria wrenches her mechâs hatchet from the enemy mechâs side, as well as pulling the retractable blade, and the arm attached to it, from her left torso armor.
âUghâŠdonât know how much longer we can do this, bossâŠâ she says, over comms. âGot a hole in my left torso armor.â
âYeah, Envyâs pretty banged up too.â Kei added. âAlso Iâm soooooooo hooooooootâŠ.uuuuuuuughâŠ.â
âUnderstood.â Owen replied, checking the mini map. The forest of red dots had been reduced significantly, leaving only several small pockets and one decent sized one left.
âWe good to move forward, sir?â Maria asks, ever professional. Her Mad Cat had lost a good chunk of itâs armor, and was down top a quarter of its missile load, but still functional.
âHell, Iâm ready to pack it in, few more scraps like this and I got is a fucking pair of medium lasers left, might as well spit at em at that pointâ The gruff voice of Billy adds, ever the blunt one.
Owen considered, they were banged up, but still largely functional.
âSirâŠ.I have found somethingâ The soft voice of Elenor appears over the comms.
âReport Lt, whatâve you got?â Owen asks.
âCivilians, sirâŠa lot of themâŠâ She replies.
Owen feels a familiar weight in his chest at what might come next. The Word was never kind to the civilian population of the worlds the conquered.
ââŠreport status of the civilians, Lt.â He asks.
â⊠scared, sir.â
Owen lets out a sigh. GreatâŠjust greatâŠ
He pushes several buttons and keys up Savannahâs frequency.
âThis is Garm 1 to Fursona, weâve got a situation here. A civilian situation, over.â

Bad boy, Sad girl
Pairing: Kim Jongin x reader
genre: college au! popular!Jongin, fluff, romance
Warnings: none
Inspirations: Bad boy, sad girl by seulgi ft be'o' and a prompt list
âOh my god!â I suppress my giggle reading the female lead antics. Cupping my mouth, I gasp. That didnât happen just now.Â
A thunder booms across the sky jolting me awake from the book. Heavy downpour of rain made it hard to decipher which is which on the road. I think thatâs the reason for the usually busy cafe to be empty besides me.Â
I sip on the hot chocolate, enjoying each sip under the well lit area, rain and thunder sounds, and I have my book. Isnât this the perfect place for a reader? Itâs heaven.Â
âWhat are you reading?â Someone asks in my ear, startling the hell out of me. The hot chocolate spills on my hand and my skin burns from the hot content. âFuck.âÂ
âShit.â He stretches his long muscled arm to the next table and grabs some tissues. He gently pats the tissue on my hand. His long strands of hair poking his brown eyes, veins running down his tan arms makes my heart skip a beat. âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have sneaked up on you.âÂ
His melodic voice calms my insides. But why does all of this feel like I have known him from somewhere, and that too known him so well. I tilt my head to the side trying to get a clear view of his face. He must have understood my struggle because he smiled, turning to me as he tended to my hand.Â
The fuck is happening. This shouldnât have been happening. He canât be here out of all.Â
âWe-hel-hi!â I stumble for coherent words. Okay, how bad is it to remember a basic âhiâ brain?! âNo, hi.â I gently smile, tucking my hair behind my ear. âJongin.âÂ
His eyebrow shorts up, his lips tilting up in a smug grin. Of course. He didnât even introduce himself and yet I know his name. Well if that doesnât feed the ego of the bad boy of the university what will?Â
âYou know me.â Thatâs not even a question. âThatâs unexpected.â He drags the chair from my table, turns it around and sits, resting his cheek on the back of the chair. âStuck in the rain?â
I check the window, the rain water slides down the window glass in a heavy flow. My insides sing when a silent lightning lights up the whole sky. I close my eyes anticipating the sound. The loud rumble almost shakes up the cafe. My smile only grows bigger.Â
âNo.â I reply to Jongin. âI am enjoying the rain.â
He hums, his eyes shining under the fluorescent lights. His shirt is damp, so is his hair. If you squint one can see a water droplet sliding down his cheek slowly from his hair strand. He is still in the same brown t-shirt he was wearing during the classes.Â
âWhatâs the book about?â He asks again, tapping his fingers on the said book.Â
âNothing of your interest.â I mumble, flipping the ends of the pages through my thumb. âJust a silly little romance.â The words are a lost whisper now.Â
âCan I read the description?â He is already dragging the book out of my hand. His warm fingers brushing mine in a slow motion. âRomance is my forte.â He winks.Â
Okay, my heart, stop the fuck down. I mean no donât stop because I may die then but please do slow down. And butterflies in my stomach too. Itâs a daily thing for him to wink or brush hands. Same as breathing.Â
The little smile on his lips doesnât disappear as his eyes slide down the description. His full lips, the bow on his upper lip fascinates me, how can one have beautiful lips? And seeing him laugh in live releases a thousand butterflies in a second. He opens a random page in the middle of the book. His eyebrow shots up to the roof, his eyes flicking to me, the spark in his eyes is mischievous.Â
God, what page is he on? Itâs a spicy book. How did I let the book slip away from me? I do an excellent job in hiding my guilty pleasure books from the outside world.
Maybe you were busy drooling at him. Or his lips. Or his smile.Â
Thereâs no need to remind me of that fact, brain. Ugh, how to get my book back. I clasp on to the edge of my book, grabbing it. But his vice grip on it doesnât make it easy as I thought it would be.Â
âGive it back.â I ask, still pulling.Â
âWait.â He reads the contents in a hurry, âIâm on an interesting part.âÂ
âNo.â I hold his wrist trying to pry away his iron grip on the book. âPlease, Jongin.âÂ
He freezes in his movements for a second, I easily grab my book from him and stuff it into my tote bag. He watches my movements in interest, like a kid watches a cake in the oven.Â
âYou go to my university.â He plucks my id hanging on the tote bag. âInteresting picture.âÂ
My mood sullens at his words. âWe go to the same class.â I snatch my ID back and stuff it into my bag. I donât see his surprised face, and play with the half filled cup.Â
I know he doesnât know me. He is the Jongin who has half of the campus behind him(this is exaggeration but anyway). In my defense I even sat on the first bench at least he should have noticed in passing. But given the fact he rarely comes to the class and takes the back door often can make him miss her existence in the class.Â
âJongin! Hurry!â His friend, Kyungsoo, shouts from the entrance of the cafe.Â
Jongin stands up from the chair, and rearranges it back into the table like a perfect gentleman. He waves to me, âbye. It was fun talking to you.â Without even waiting for my bye or acknowledgement of his words he runs to the door.
My two minute happiness evaporates seeing my crush leave me just like that. Such a bad boy he is. How can he leave that way? Leave a girl all alone in a deserted cafe. I look back through my shoulder, his broad back makes me sigh again. Canât I have him in my life? Can I have him in my life? The thunder rumbles again, and he turns around at the same time. He tilts his head a little and grins.Â
There goes my heart.Â

Ruler of the cruel
Masochist! Yandere Author x Cruel! Editor Reader
Authors note/warnings:
W-Yandere stuff, some suggestive content (nothing major), drugging.
A/N- [hearts are time skips] tbh, I really like this one. I did ask a question, feel free to answer. Have a good night/day, drink and eat something. Enjoy~
____________________________________
Yan!Author, (pen name H.D. Oleander) was destined for greatness.
Yan!Author, who was born to an elite family. He had the highest of education. He had women, men, and everyone in between pining after him.
Yan!Author, who is the heir to a multimillion dollar company.
Yan!Author who was born into the life of dreams.
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
Editor! Reader, toughened by the world. Born to a not so well off family with little love to go around.
Editor! Reader, who built up a reputation. Reader was known as he ruler of the crueler (given to them from a good friend and colleague as a joke).
Editor! Reader, who didnât care who the person was. The would be author could be God, and Reader would still give harsh feedback and a big red rejection stamp on the work if it wasnât up to their standard.
Editor! Reader, whose reputation didnât stop people asking to buy them drinks. No one made it past the first date without crying.
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
Editor! Readerâs publishing house started to fail (totally not Readerâs fault. No, not at all), so when they got a large sum of money they had to take the chance.
A week before the money was offered, a rich looking man bumped into a very unhappy Reader.
Yan!Author was walking around town (in a disguise of a slightly less rich man) and happened to knock into someone.
Reader was angry (like always), but getting bumped into and dropping the manuscript they were submitted (and rejected) pushed them over the edge.
âWatch it asshole!â Reader snapped, a bitter and icy tone in their voice.
Normally Yan!Author wouldnât take the disrespect. Yan!Author was much more important than them, right?
That would be in a normal circumstance.
This time, the person was⊠beyond breathtaking. Beyond angelic. Beyond godly.
You waved your hands in front of their face. Why were they staring? Creep.
âO-oh!â Yan!Author said.
Sighing, you crouched to pick the papers up,
âHere, let me hel-â Yan!Author tried to crouch beside you.
âYouâve done enough,â you snap.
Yan!Author, taken aback and slightly aroused let you push past them.
That night, Yan!Author looked you up (he may or may not have sneaked a quick pic for⊠reasons) and found the publishing house. He also saw that you were one of the cruelest editor of all time. You were notoriously harsh on everyone.
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
When you got to your desk on Monday your boss approached you cautiously.
âA-as you know, weâve received a large amount of a money from an author who goes by the pen name H.D. Oleanderââ
âLike the flower?â You ask, tone as pointed as ever. Your boss flinched.
âWell, yes, he specifically requested you to be his editor.â The boss dropped the manuscript on your desk and practically ran out of your office.
You sighed and went on to critique the work.
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
When you were done, it was 5 minutes til close.
You went to go submit it back to this H.D. Oleander guy when your boss asked if you were harsh as always. You told him you were honest.
Your employer asked if you could be nicer, especially since Oleander was so rich and they didnât want to go bankrupt.
In the most professional way, you told him to go fuck himself. Like hell you were going to lie. You were known for your honesty, that was obviously why you were requested.
Your boss couldnât do anything to stop you, so he let you do as you pleased and sent the manuscript back.
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
The day Yan!Author got the edited manuscript was one of the happiest days of his life.
When Yan!Author saw the red lettering and harsh critique, he couldnât help but get excited in more than one way.
Yan!Author spent most of the night imagining you making fun of his lack of talent, lack of creativity, making fun of him. He imagined the kind of things you would say and do to him if you found out he was jerking off to the thought of your voice calling him pathetic. (I kinda wanna write a full on smut scene, should I?)
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
The next day at work youâre called down to the lobby, a frantic and strange tone in the receptionists voice. Almost as if she was trying to seduce someone.
Taking the elevator down you let your mind wander. Sure, you maybe be cold, but you still have an imagination.
You step into the lobby to see an oddly familiar face. The receptionist tried to flirt with the guy. He paid no mind.
As soon as youâre in his view he practically skips to you.
âCan I help you?â You ask.
âYes! Thank you for the corrections on my book!â He beams at you.
âItâs my job?â Youâre confused.
âWell, thank you! Here, weâre going to get lunch! Iâll pay!â He continues, overly excited.
â⊠ok?â
He grabs your hand and drags you to his limo. Yes, limo.
When you climb into the vehicle, he immediately pours you a drink.
âWhere would you like to go?â
âI donât know. I donât eat lunch,â you take the drink.
After you finish it, you feel⊠dizzy?
Wait.
Did he spikeâ
âIâll see you when you wake up darling,â~

The river to Hel
This meta builds upon theories in Peering into a pit of hell, The space between, Forbidden secrets, Flower of life, Blooming dreams, Bright as the dawn, and Heart of the night court. It includes spoilers for hofas, so please avoid if necessary.
In Heart of the night court, I wondered if there could be a doorway to Hel under/on Ramiel that is linked to Temple of Chaos (Wyrd). Iâm very curious about the Pass of Enalius on Ramiel, the heart of the land, that seemed to breatheâ
like the pit at the heart of Chaosâs (Wyrdâs) temple seemed to breathe.
In the stone illustrations leading to the sacred peak on the Prison island, we see a Helscape beneath the land. Is it possible that the land above mirrors the Helscape below? And could the dark water in the Bog of Oorid, which flows underground, into the sacred peak in the Middle, and into other courtsâincluding the Night Courtâbe the start of the path on the black river in Hel? A River Acheron Archeron, like @offtorivendell theorized long ago?
Nesta and Bryce make similar observations of the dark waters in both places:
-
The black surface of Oorid is even compared to a mirror, just like the Temple of Chaos seems to mirror the Temple of Wyrd in Midgard. Is Oorid a reflection, near-mirror, of what lay beneath, like sister-glass?
As indicated by the mist, it is a thin place, which means the veil between worlds is thin there. The color of the water may even be from black salt. Bryce and Hunt use black salt in Avallen, combined with water, to travel to Hel in a dream.
Before the land was cursed by Fionnâs death, it was once a sacred place (like the three sister peaks). People used to lay their dead to rest in the bog.
Did its waters, like a solemn stag, once guide souls of the dead to Chaosâs (Wyrdâs) womb at Ramiel?
If this place does mirror, or bleed into, the path to Chaosâs (Wyrdâs) temple, then could the violence of Fionnâs death have defiled it?
Theia and Pelias may have violated the peace and beauty of this sacred place by ruthlessly killing the king who also seemed deeply connected to its land. It withered upon his brutal death, falling into a deep winter.
When he was drowned, Fionn was gagged and bound. What if his soul remains trapped in its watery depths, unable to make the journey home? Perhaps Elain, a lovely fawn with vibrant spring behind her, might be able to guide him to the womb of the Mother, her sacred temple, and right an ancient wrong. Could this act of peace purify the darkness of Oorid and thaw the winter gripping its soul?
