modern au Lucemond
After a family reunion the younger Targaryens / Velaryons decide to go clubbing. Surprisingly everyone seems to get along. Aegon is in his element and him and Jace are getting along really well, talking about alcohol and sports. Heleana, Baela and Rhaena are having the time of their life on the dance floor. Lucerys is really really drunk for the first time in his life and even Aemond seems to enjoy himself.
That is until they are getting a new round of shots and Luke who is sitting next to Aemond and is just utterly pissed, looks at his uncle dreamily and says in front of everyone:
“You know Aemond, I really don’t regret taking your eye.”
Everyone tenses up and Aemond clenches his fists. They had just all gotten along, why did Luke have to ruin it? Why did he have to make a remark about Aemond’s biggest insecurity that he was responsible for?
Then Luke who is already slurring his words follows up with:
“The eyepatch just looks really hot. Like ten out of ten. I would absolutely fuck you if I had the chance.”
He promptly lays his head on Aemond’s shoulder and passes out.
Aegon is laughing hysterically, Jace looks completely dumbfounded and the girls are giggling. Aemond is absolutely caught off guard and just stares at the dark curls on his shoulder where the boy is leaning on him.
“Well” Aegon is still laughing “Congrats brother, seems like you won’t be going home alone tonight!”
Jace seems to want to say something but gets dragged away by the girls. Aemond carefully puts a hand around Luke’s shoulder and gently guides him to stand up and leave the club. He calls them a cab, brings him home to his apartment and carefully tucks him into bed (of course putting a bucket on the nightstand just to be safe).
Bonus: The next morning Luke has the hangover of his life. Aemond gives him water, some painkillers and makes him breakfast. Lucerys doesn’t remember what he said the night before and doesn’t know why he woke up in Aemond’s apartment wearing one of his uncle’s shirts. He tries flustered to ask Aemond if they slept with each other and his uncle teases him about it. In the end he tells Luke no (who is disappointed) but tells him what he said at the club. Luke is extremely embarrassed and apologised profusely until Aemond smirks and shuts him up with a kiss.
Edit: First chapter is now on ao3, the second one will be up tomorrow as a Christmas present ;) Merry Christmas!

Include Rhaena and Baela in your Targaryen princess edits. They are just as Targaryen, cool, and badass as Rhaenyra, Heleana, Rhaenys, and Daenerys.

Note
do you think rhaenyra earned the nickname realm’s delight? I perceive it as a mockery, as if she is anything but delight to anyone especially realm. And what do you think heleana did to earn common people’s love? Do you think it was just being a victim who was unfairly tortured appealled to common people?
I think Rhaenyra, as a girl and teenager, was legitimately "The Realm's Delight". She was beautiful, young, full of life. But I think as she got older what makes a young girl popular makes an adult woman unappealing.
I just think that Rhaenyra is one of those people that just never grew up. She is that poor little rich girl who never had a job, who has always lived off her daddy's money, but feigns that she has her own life. She is the poster girl for people who peaked in High School.
Rhaenyra's main difficulty remains that she was raised her entire life free and protected from consequences. Whenever she had an issue or does something stupid she stamped her foot and shouted "DADDY!" and Viserys fixed it for her - no matter what.
And I think "Blood & Cheese" is the big moment where Rhaenyra's relying on people to make her problems go away turns her into a villain. Whatever you could say about Viserys, he was a descent enough person to find unpopular common ground. But when Rhaenyra transferred that immaturity to Daemon, her husband/uncle is a monster who does terrible and evil things ... and it seems she doesn't care as long as she gets what she wants.
As for Helaena being popular. None of the subsequent editions of "Fire & Blood" go into why Helaena was popular and beloved by the commons. In the first edition it gets a little bit into why Daeron is very popular.
youtube
(This is actually cribbed from "Fire & Blood" about Daeron among the commons of King's Landing - with the exception about the singing - that was eventually edited out of the recent "Tie-In Edition" of the book.)
Yeah, the old edition basically said that Daeron being the fifth kid and third son had no supervision so he often times went out and befriended many of the citizens of King's Landing and was known to them at a very young age. I think Daeron was originally based off of Henry V - they're very similar - but eventually GRRM backed off on it when HBO (and he) got more interested in Daemon and the Velaryons.
To be fair, the Greens - Alicent, Criston, Daeron, and Helaena - were all very popular with the common people. It was said the Aemond was a very popular regent. And it was made clear that both Helaena and Daeron were beloved. In fact, Daeron in particular remained a legendary and revered Dragon Knight for centuries afterward - Two different famed Targaryen Kings are named after him.
Yet, like I said, it's never explained why Helaena was beloved or what she did to become it only that she was.

Chapter Three (A Breath of Fresh Air)
Aemond Targaryen x OC! Baratheon daughter (Elenei Baratheon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings - HOTD Spoilers, babes, click away of you don’t want spoilers, the two of them finally meet, they are idiots who can’t communicate, I love them. Self deprecating talks on Elenei’s behalf because of the things her family has done and said/engrained in her, Aemond get’s a little mean at the end idk, maybe this chapter is crap, who knows, I certainly do not!
Notes - Is this story getting worse? Maybe! Is my ability to write well slowly fading away? Possibly! But are my creative juices flowing and my ideas spilling out? Yes, very much so. So I apologize that I haven’t edited this so perfectly! But I’m just living my life, so pease just go with the flow <3
+ + + + + +
As the celebration continued her parents grew worried, the wind picking up twirling kites around like puppets, the sea churning and twisting causing the flowers to be pummeled by unexpected waves. When night fell, the celebration coming to a halt on the shore, suddenly pushed inland, the God’s paused, a weight suddenly on their shoulders, one they hadn’t felt since their daughter was born.
- - - - - -
Aemond hated traveling by boat, the rides long, bumpy, and boring. Boats only had few areas to train, the kitchens produced lackluster foods, and plain wooden walls always seemed to make him go slightly mad. “My Prince.” Set Criston called out as he knocked on Aemonds door, a book in the Prince's hand as he tried to ignore the call. “My Prince, We have arrived.” Ser Criston called again, a sigh leaving his lips in unamusement at Aemond’s attitude.
+
Walking back into Storm’s End was easier than the Prince expected, the stone walls still holding horrible memories, his nephew's fearful face still etched into his mind as his footsteps echoed the hall. “Aemond! My Prince! We meet again!” Borros cheered, standing up from his seat, his arms spread open, welcoming the man back to his hall, this time more wearily, hoping death would not plague him and his hall once more.
“Lord Borros.” Aemond smiled, nodding his head slightly in acknowledgement. “I am sorry it took so long to meet again.” His smile fell to a slight frown. “I traveled by boat this time round.”
“I take it the scenery was compelling enough to watch it go by slower this time.” Borros spoke, finally sitting back down.
“Indeed.”
Borros cleared his throat, the, now awkward, silence filling the room an uncomfortable amount. “Let’s get to it, shall we?” The Lord asked, Aemond nodding his head, wanting to get this tedious business over as quickly as possible. “Bring them in” He snapped his fingers, a few men rushing towards a door and opening it, an older woman leading the way. “I trust you know my wife, Lady Elenda.” He smiled, his wife placing her hand on his shoulder, bowing slightly towards the Prince.
“Indeed. It is nice to see you again.” Aemond smiled, his eyes making their way back towards the door.
“My eldest, and most mature, Cassandra.” The girl stood smiling beside her mother, a few feet away as to seperate them. Her dress was clearly expensive, hair done up perfectly, not a single strand out of place. “Maris, the smartest of the girls, is very witty too.” He said proudly, Maris lining up next to her sister, her dress and hand similar to her sisters, the colors and designs hardly different. “Ellyn, my sweetest daughter, very palatable, My Prince.” The girl didn’t smile, looking off into the distance, similar to his sister, though he doubted she too shared the same abilities as Heleana. Another girl walked out, lining up. “Elenei.” Borros practiclly whispered. “And Floris, my rebellious spitfire.” He sounded proudest that time as the youngest made her way out. “Please do take your time, My Prince.”
Aemond did a once over, applying the names to the women in front of him, seeing how prestine four of the girls were, the one so clearly disregarded looking as though she had been plucked from a garden, hand behind her back to hide the dirt, the bottom of her skirt brushed with mud, her hair messy as though she had been in a rush when dealing with it. “Elenei?” Aemond questioned, his eye on the girl closely, his gaze intense. “Your father so kindly described each one of your sisters, yet not you.” Borros shifted in his seat, annoyed at the fact Elenei seemed to be getting the most attention from the Prince. “How would you describe yourself?”
Before the girl could even take a deep breath her father cut in. “She’s the least desirable of my daughters, My Prince.” He chuckled. “I just did not want to embarrass her in front of royalty.” Borros explains, as if he did the girl a favor.
Aemond simply hummed, ready to ask the girl another question. Elenda interrupts the two this time. “Why don’t you take a walk through our garden with each girl?” She smiled. “To help you decide, My Prince.”
Borros agreed, swiftly leading the group to the back gardens, the sky grey as usual, but garden beds and the stone path seemingly radiating with colour. “Elenei?” Aemond asked once again, holding out his hand to her. “Would you accompany me?”
The girl looks back to her Father and Mother, the two of them shaking their heads ‘no’. “My Prince.” She begins, ready to decline.
“I’m afraid I insist.” Aemond smiled, gladly using his title and power to get what he wanted.
Elenei didn’t grab his hand as she began to walk, Aemond right beside, her hands still behind her back, her steps awkward as to not expose her bare feet. “It’s not fair” A voice whined behind the two, Elenei turning her head, only to be met with her sisters complaining to her father.
“What do you enjoy doing, My Lady?” Aemond asked, his formality making her cheeks heat up, her fingers fiddling behind her.
“Oh, um.” She hesitates, unsure how to answer the question, wondering what a sophisticated possible bride-to-be to a Prince would say. “I, well, I.”
“Be honest.” Aemond calmly demands, his eyes forward as Elenei sneaks a peek at his face, his eyepatch much less scary than ever described.
“I like to garden?” Her voice is weary, as if this walk was a test. “My father didn’t care for our past gardener.” She explained. “So I took over. I have planted a few new plants, mainly propagated overgrown old ones though.” She smiled as she looked at her handy work, warmth blooming in her chest.
Aemond hummed, nodding his head slightly, seemingly unamused by the conversation. “And what do you aspire to be?”
The question caught Elenei off guard, even more than the last. “Oh, I don’t know.” She said honestly, finally fiddling with her hands, this time in front of herself, her dirty nails on full display as she pondered the question. “I guess a mother. I wouldn’t mind teaching either.” She paused and crouched down, picking up a small beetle off the path and placing him back into a small garden box, the bug digging it’s way back into the soil. “What about you? My Prince, what to you enjoy doing?”
“This isn’t about me, Elenei. I’m interviewing a possible wife, not answering questions about my own interests.” His words were cold, Elenei opening her mouth to apologize, Aemond simply speaking over her. “Why does your family cast you aside? Is there some hidden secret I should know about?” He asked, matter of factly.
Elenei just laughed, shocking Aemond this time. “Please don’t take offense, My Prince, but can you see well out of your one eye?” She chuckles, her weary exterior breaking. He still looks puzzled, Elenei sighing as she takes a few quick steps to stand in front of Aemond. “If you took two seconds to look at me.” She raises her eyebrows slightly, judging his lack of awareness. “You would see I am not as pretty as my sisters, therefore I hold less value in the eyes of my parents.” She said it with no emotion, the words ones she had said too many times to feel anything for them anymore.
“Do you think you are less valuable?” He played along, indulging this self appointed hatred, knowing all too well how she was feeling.
“I don’t think it, My Prince, I know it.” She smiled this time, the gesture not truly meeting her eyes, the whole thing unbelievable. “My whole life I have been disregarded as physically undesirable, which sure doesn’t make me less valuable.” She reasoned. “But because I was cast aside to allow the desirable sisters to thrive, I was never taught to read, write, I don’t know how to be a proper lady, goodness I’m not even sure I know how to behave in everyday social situations.” She chuckled throughout her speech. “Because of my lack of skills I know I am not as valuable, at least to proper men that is.”
“What do you mean by ‘proper men’.” Aemond chuckled himself, scolding himself in his head for breaking his cold emotionless stare, yet unable to wipe the smile off his face.
“Men like you, men who need me to be a proper Lady, a sophisticated woman of society.” Elenei pretended to pick up a tea cup, her pinky rising, a funny expression mocking a polite smile plastered across her face. “I’m sure I hold much more value in the eyes of a farmer than my sisters ever could.” Her humorous attitude quickly faded, once again she seemed sad.
“Your lack of skills does not make you less desirable.” Aemond spoke, his eye not meeting her as she turned to face him, once again walking around the garden, her little show over. “Your inability to read and write are no issue, I will arrange for lessons if you wish, and I’m sure we can work on making sure you know how to address people by the right title before the wedding.”
“Oh I doubt I will be invited to your wedding, My Prince.” Elenei smiled again, the same emotionless one she had done before.
“Pardon?”
“I don’t think any of my sisters, nor my parents, would wish to have me even enter King’s landing, My Prince.” She explained.
“Elenei you will most certainly be invited to your own wedding.” Aemond insisted.
“Well yes, of course I’ll be at my own wedding, but not yours.” She said, the two of them looking at each other with confused expressions, no longer walking, almost facing off in a duel of confusion and miscommunication.
“Your wedding will also be my own, you are to be my Lady wife.” Aemond flatly said, putting his foot down, making sure they both understood what he was saying.
“My Prince, do not be foolish.” Elenei scoffed, her eyes widening as the realization hit. “You do not wish to pick me as your Lady wife, I hold no value, I have nothing to offer, My Prince, you do not mean what you say.” She rambled, her chest heaving as she began to panic.
“Your sisters are standing on the side fixing their dresses, talking as if you have no chance, I do not wish to be surrounded by that type of behavior for the rest of my days.” He quietly shouted, pointing to the rest of the Baratheon family, as he kept his gaze on Elenei. “You picked a beetle up so it would not get squished, you treat me as a person, not as a prize to be won, I simply do not understand how you don’t see how much more desirable you are compared to your sisters.” Aemond didn’t mean for his words to seem harsh, he didn't want them to be laced with anger, but he wasn’t able to hold back his frustration. He takes a deep breath, aware of the tears in his soon to be, Lady wife’s eyes. “You are a breath of fresh air, and I intend to savor it.”

💠Aegon's Shadow 💠
Chapter 2 Masterlist
word count: 2,297
I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE LACK OF AEGON II FICS, ONESHOTS, HEADCANONS, DRABBLES, EDITS AND IMAGINES!
so i decided to write my own, maybe it'll start a domino effect, or no one will see it, prayers y'all
summary:  Lowborn reader needs to find a match, so her father doesn't have to pick for her.  Little does she know the decision isn't up to her, or her father.
there are no warnings for this chapter, just a little comfort THEN hurt from Aegon 😘

Tumblr media
Chapter One
The feast was loud, deafening by all accounts. You didn't even know what you were doing there, at a royal wedding. Your father thought tonight was the night to find your suitor. He's a lowborn man, but still the son of the richest merchant in all of King's Landing's history, and you were meant to inherit it all. Your father, being a man of his time, agrees with the notion that women surely can't run businesses.
That's the reason you're here tonight, at the royal feast, to find someone worthy of a shop's tiny fortune. Your father would never see you worthy, not as long as you lacked the right parts. Every man wishes for a son to carry on his familial line. You respected the traditions, but that's all they were to you, traditions. They hold no real meaning to you. You thrive off of facts, and actions of others, you think men get too caught up in tradition to see what's right in front of them.
Speaking of traditions and being right in front of you, The Queen stands from her table in the center. The vibrating room suddenly hushes, waiting for their queen to address them. "Kings Landing, were proud to announce Prince Aemond and Princess Heleana…" Alicent's tight lined smile is telling. The Hightower family was partial to most, except things like the Targaryen family tradition.
Your eyes flash to the indifferent prince and sullen princess, you feel bad for a second, then realize a fool could see through this wedding. They would be King and Queen one day soon, dethroning Rhaenyra, and skipping past prince Aegon all together. The city wasn't blind, and neither were you, you could see the distant look on prince Aegon's face, like a mixture of sadness and relief. Saddened that his own family would sabotage his reign, relieved that he'll never be bothered with running the realms.
Something inside of you told you to stop staring at the prince, but you could not peel your eyes away in enough time. His dark, sunken eyes were already staring right back. Terrified that you had disrespected royalty you put your head down, hoping your face would disappear in the crowd for Aegon.
The Queen finishes her speech that you didn't even hear, and the guests make their way to two long tables. You sit beside your father and another lowborn girl, Kira; her father owns the Apothecary. A life filled with oils and salves has produced a beautiful young woman, your father owning all the produce and bread stands has done nothing but leave a little to be desired on your part. Who wouldn't take advantage of free food on every corner as a kid.
Dinner was promptly served once the guests were all seated, a roast of some sort, you could recognize your father's potatoes and carrots, imported from Dorne. Of course, they would spend a fortune on this feast, to show their people how much this wedding means. You finished your meal quickly, as did others as they made their way to the dance floor. You'd thought, surely, enough time had passed, and you could look up to the table full of silver hair without being caught gawking. Half of the family was happy, so happy they couldn't see how all of this was affecting their three children. Alicent was securing her family's wealth, Otto's scheming is starting to pay off, and Viserys is just happy to be there, slowly withering away.
You look to the rain cloud of a person, Prince Aegon, but he is no longer there, an empty chair stared back at you. Turning back in your seat, you play with a napkin, folding it in different styles till you run out of techniques. Everyone slowly left to the dance floor, whether they were dancing or talking business wasn't a factor, you were still sitting all alone on the night you were meant to find your husband.
Your bright idea to find a suitor was simple, let fate decide. She had been on your side all your life, just one more night would be enough for you.  Every girl knows that in this world, the man they marry is not their decision, and it isn't up for discussion.  All the good Kings and Queens from before didn't begin their marriage loving each other, and some never do. On the other hand, you are not a queen, and never will be. So, you can see yourself finding plenty of time to work towards finding a relationship based on love.
Your untrusting father couldn't find it in himself to let you decide for yourself. That's why he's walking up to you alongside a short chubby lord, who's at least double your age. "Y/N I would like to introduce you to Lord..." your father's words faded away as you saw Prince Aegon, as he makes his way to the large doors that you were seated next to, he catches your eyes on him again. he furrows his brow in an almost confused expression, but still continues towards the door.
"Would you like to dance my lady?" the short lord reaches out his hand and interrupts your line of vision. Standing, you look up to them, saddened that your father thinks fat means ugly, he thinks this guy is in your league. "Do you really think of me as that beastly father? And I'm not a lady!" you say to both men quite loudly. You see the prince stop in his tracks and snap his head towards your disruption.  Rather than have any common decency for the royals, you stormed out of their wedding, not caring if your disrespect gets your lowborn head chopped off.
Prince Aegon watches the encounter, shocked at your outburst, first you dare to let him catch your prolonged gaze, now you show complete disregard for where you are feasting. No matter how bright your eyes were, your actions were more than punishable. He sees you slip out of a back door, leading to the gardens.
He looks to the knight, standing just behind him. The second he looks away, Aegon bolts for the door, following you into the gardens. He finds you sitting under a large tree, hiding with your back to the party. He stands where you cannot see him, like a predator watching his prey.  Aegon is known for playing with his food, all the realms know it, especially you, a young woman living in King's Landing.
Aegon expected you to be crying already, overwhelmed by everything he just witnessed. He was surprised to hear giggles from behind the tree, he circles the tree, not catching your eye as he stands in front of you, a small black feline with grey stripes is curled in your lap, swatting away at your hand. One good scratch, a pointed finger, and pouted lips saying "Hey! That's not berry nice" was enough for Aegon to forget your transgressions. He would never let you know that.
"You don't look upset at all for a girl with no suitor options." Aegon says, breaking you from your trance on the strange looking kitten. Standing, dropping the kitten, you curtsey, "Your Grace, please forgive me." Aegon waved away your worry with a smile, but not your fear of what he could do. "You should tell me about what happened there. I might pity you enough to go light on your punishment." He says with a serious look. In reality, he just wanted to know more about you. Of course, he could know every detail about you with a snap of his fingers, but he'd prefer your tales come from your lips, not some maester or knight.
"It's my father, Your Grace." You say looking into his eyes for the third time that day. Aegon is monotoned, still not comprehending why you're the only person, besides his mother and grandfather, to ever stare him in the eye. "Go on." He lets you continue, staring right back into your eyes. "He's been trying to find a suitor that's worthy for a month, worthy of our money, not of me. I turn them all down because they're either too old or too ugly. He's never once brought me someone my age. I know my size makes the lords turn their heads, my prince. My father sees me as a beast. I'm his only living child, I know he wants to secure our house, but I'll never be a lady. I'll never be enough for the handsome lords in that room." you say, pointing behind you. You were used to this kind of self-talk, no tears welled in your eyes as you spoke, no quiver in your voice. Your face showed no emotion, you were tired of this life, you'd lived with these facts for a month. Turning down old scary men puts your life into perspective quickly.
Aegon somehow understands your rambling, actually feeling bad for you, which surprises him. He silently offers you a hand. Placing your shaking hand in his, he starts dragging you to a corner of the garden. Your veins run cold, terrified that Aegon is going to do to you what the servant girls whisper about in Flea Bottom. Surprisingly, you both come to a stop in front of a large tree with soft green leaves and light purple blooms.
"Would you call this tree beastly? Would you say it's not worthy of respect because it doesn't look like that peach tree? or that willow?" Aegon says, acting as if he knows something you don't. You stand there not answering, afraid you'll say the wrong thing and offend the prince. Aegon continues at your silence, "This tree is big, but it's also strong, and breathtakingly beautiful in the summer, even more beautiful than the ripe peaches or long-haired willows." he finishes still holding onto your hand.
"Please forgive me, your grace but did you just compare me to a tree?" you say smiling. You stayed silent as the prince worked over the thoughts in his mind. “No, I was only suggesting that size has nothing to do with beauty, your size has nothing to do with your beauty.” Aegon says. “Do you think I'm beautiful, my prince?” You ask before thinking, frozen at his proclamation, his hand finally starts to burn a hole into your palm. With that question, you altered whatever was happening between you at that moment. “I… I don’t even know your name, my lady...” Aegon stutters out, dropping your hand quickly, not being able to confirm or deny your accusation.  Aegon knows what his family would say, specifically his younger brother and he liked you far too much to ruin your virtue and reputation for a night of satisfaction.
You know Aegon sleeps with everything that walks, so his reaction made you shatter from the inside out. First your breath was pulled from your lungs, then your skin got hot. Tears filled your eyes for the first time that evening, thinking even a man whore couldn't find me attractive enough to lie. You stare at Aegon for the last time, letting him see the tears he caused. He built you up so high in minutes, only to let you get the wrong idea. The mean, lazy prince actually being nice to you? He must've been teasing you the whole time.
You begin to walk backwards towards the party, back to the room of people that didn't even see you, back to your matchmaking father. “I’m not a lady.” You say, turning around, quickly making your way back into the door you previously escaped from. Once you’re inside you see a tanned skin knight with dark brown hair making his way towards you. He floats past you like you weren't even there, swinging the door to the garden open quite forcefully.
You spot your father leaning over one of the tables, pointing towards you with a smile on his face, without thinking you run out of the already opened large main doors. You keep running, and running till you reach Blackwater Bay. You search left and right to see an empty beach, signaling that you are safe to go into the water. You strip yourself of the dark red dress, leaving you in only your white linens. You wade through the water till you’re hip deep, and then you just let yourself float, float away from everything. The seas are healing, you know that. You donate all of your salty tears to her, for as long as you were wet with seawater you weren't really crying. You float for as long as your tears fall, once you collect yourself you rise to a wading position and realize how far you've floated, at least 50 meters from shore. You start to swim your way back when you see a cloaked figure standing beside your dress in the sand. You quickly start swimming back, hoping this stranger doesn't steal your nice dinner dress. As you make it to shore and start crawling through the shallow water, you notice the figure has already disappeared. In their stead, a small black kitten with grey stripes. Weird, you think, it looks exactly like the one in the garden. After lacing your dress up and grabbing the kitten you walk through the gate, starting your long walk home.
