100 SLEEPING PRINCES & THE KINGDOM OF DREAMS
Tumblr media
HELDT CHARACTER CARD #1
Country of Red Hunt - Vealoth.
In the tranquil forest where the melodies of birds resound under the dazzling moon of Vealoth, a prince awakens, enveloped in radiant light.
??? : You...Who are you?
His striking scarlet cloak draped over his head, he gazes directly at me.
(His eyes are so pretty...)
Drawn into his translucent emerald-colored eyes, I found myself momentarily captivated...
Suddenly, he grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him.
EMMA : ...!?
In an instant, I find myself pressed against his chest, my heart pounding wildly.
EMMA : Why did you...?
??? : That was close. It's a Poison Sister.
He points behind me, where a pitch-black creature dangles from a branch by thread.
EMMA : Oh my!!
??? : You're safe. As long as we don't startle it, it won't attack.
He picks up a sturdy branch and has the creature crawl onto it, then expertly moves it to a different tree.
??? : Try not to attract too much attention. It's dangerous for both of us.
With that warning, he turns back towards me.
EMMA : Th-Thank you very much.
Bathed in the dappled sunlight, his golden hair gleams.
Tumblr media
??? : What's your name?
EMMA : I'm Emma. And you are...?
HELDT : I'm Heldt, the prince of this country. Thanks for helping me out back there.
From behind his back, a large rifle peeks out.
(That's a big gun...)
The incongruity between his bright and gentle appearance and the firearm intrigued me somehow...
EMMA : Um...Sir Heldt...?
HELDT : Just call me Heldt.
EMMA : Ah, right! Heldt.
HELDT : That's better. I'm not a fan of formalities. Keep it casual.
EMMA : Casual...I think I can do that.
Tumblr media
HELDT : Haha, you're the modest type, huh?
EMMA : ....!! I'm sorry!!
HELDT : Nah, it's fine. Just be yourself.
As I start to feel a fondness for his bright and dazzling smile... suddenly, a thunderous gunshot echoes through the air.
EMMA : !!
Startled by the sound, the birds all took flight at once.
HELDT : .......
Heldt's expression, previously adorned with a bright smile, suddenly turned grim.
EMMA : Wh-What was that....?
HELDT : It's the "Beastmen"...This place is dangerous, Emma. Follow me.
EMMA : ....!!
Before I can respond, he grabs my hand and dashes deep into the heart of the forest...

Boris Aljinovic in der Serie Heldt, Folge "Alles Anders" (S4.E1), 2016.
Die Screenshots wurden mit PicsArt aufgehellt und im Format angepasst, da die Originalqualität leider sehr schlecht war.

In Memoriam: grab a teasing comb, can of Aqua Net and rat your hair up like a teenage Jezebel today in tribute to Margaret Vinci Heldt (11 February 1918 - 10 June 2016) – the inventor of perhaps the all-time greatest female hairdo, the beehive! As The Guardian’s 2016 obituary explained, “The beehive – a tall, conical woman’s hairstyle – became a cultural phenomenon during the 1960s and evolved into a style worn for decades as Hollywood’s starlets walked red carpets. Heldt created it at the request of a hairstyling magazine that published images of it in February 1960 and called it “the beehive” because it resembles the shape of a traditional hive … Heldt said the inspiration for the hairstyle came from a little black velvet hat, shaped like a small bump, and lined inside with red lace. Heldt went downstairs to her family room one night while her family was sleeping. She put on music and started working with hair atop a mannequin head. The magazine article described the hairdo as a “tall wraparound crown, creating a circular silhouette with high-rise accents.”” Over the decades variations of the beehive have been memorably worn by Brigitte Bardot, Jayne Mansfield, The Ronettes (pictured), Priscilla Presley, Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson of new wave band the B-52’s, Amy Winehouse, Lana Del Rey, Trixie Mattel – and Marge Simpson! We are forever in Margaret Vinci Heldt’s debt!

You say you want a Revolution
I have long had a fascination with the American Revolution. When I was eight, I latched onto The Young Rebels, a one-hit-wonder television series that blended The Mod Squad with the War of Independence.
Later, in high school, I dove into the Kent Family Chronicles, an eight-book series by John Jakes that covers the nation's founding and formative years. I got another whiff of history as entertainment.
As an adult, I considered more serious works, like 1776 and John Adams by David McCullough, The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara, and Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson. More recently, I have binge-watched series like Turn: Washington's Spies, Franklin, The Revolution, and Outlander, set in part in the 1770s and 1780s.
So I did not need much prodding to dive into the era. The Patriots, the first book in the Stone Shed trilogy, is my first foray into the American Revolution. Set in Philadelphia in both the present and the past, the novel examines America's first year from the viewpoint of two time travelers.
When their grandfather dies in 2024, Noah (22) and Jake (15) Maclean inherit a house, a mysterious stone shed, and a family secret that dates to the 1740s. The brothers learn they are the keepers of a portal that can send human beings through time. From that point on, life for the orphans is more than a series of questions. It is an opportunity.
With a nervous uncle's blessing, Noah and Jake take a three-month "vacation" to 1776 and the world of Ben Franklin, John Adams, Peggy Shippen, the Continental Congress, and the Declaration of Independence. They see the United States as a fledgling infant.
Then the trip takes a turn. The brothers meet Abigail (20) and Rachel (14) Ward, the lovely, spirited daughters of a Philadelphia furniture maker, and a thrilling adventure becomes a transformative journey.
The Patriots evokes earlier novels. As in The Fire, a stone shed serves as a time portal. As in Class of '59, brothers from one era mingle with sisters from another. As in Hannah's Moon, an aunt and uncle in the present track relatives in the past. War, a theme in ten other works, serves as a backdrop that influences almost every decision.
Even so, this book blazes its own trail. It delves more into the human aspects of time travel than the scientific aspects. It explores the what ifs, the whys, and the how comes. It tests the heart, mind, and soul.
At 155,000 words, The Patriots, my twenty-fourth novel, is my largest and most ambitious work to date. Available in Kindle format, it goes on sale today at Amazon.com and its international marketplaces.
