In May of 1973, Ronnie performed “Baby I Love You” live on The Midnight Special.
This was Ronnie’s first television appearance since her marriage to Phil had ended; here is a woman who survived the previous seven years in complete isolation and under constant mental abuse from her husband. Once they were married, Phil barred her from singing, recording serious material, and performing. This was the first time most people had seen her publicly since 1968.

The influence of the lagnesh
The Lagnesh plays a crucial role in Vedic astrology, shaping an individual’s appearance, personality, philosophy, and overall approach to life. As the ruler of the first house, it influences both physical and mental traits, guiding how we express ourselves, navigate our destiny, and present ourselves to the world. Understanding the Lagnesh provides valuable insight into one’s life path and personal growth.
Tumblr media
Amy Winehouse had Venus in Ashlesha Nakshatra as her Lagnesh, placed in her 3rd house. The 3rd house is a social and public house, governing media, writing, social interactions, creativity, and self-expression. With Venus in the 3rd house, a planet associated with affection, art, romance, and sensual pleasures, Amy expressed herself artistically through music and style. Her intense, seductive, and mysterious aura was strongly influenced by Ashlesha Venus, particularly in her romantic life. She often sang about toxic relationships, yet she deeply craved love and fell hard. Ashlesha’s shakti is the ability to inflict poison, and for Amy, that poison manifested through substance abuse. “The symbol for this intense nakshatra is the coiled serpent at the base of the spine, reflecting the potent kundalini energy that resides here. Ashlesha means "the entwiner" and denotes the challenges of our addictions to sensory attachments.”Dennis Harness, The Nakshatras: The Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology. Since Venus is an indulgent planet, her self-destructive indulgence took the form of alcohol and heroin addiction. Additionally, she struggled with an eating disorder, a pattern of restriction often observed in Ashlesha and Saturn-ruled nakshatra natives. Because her Lagnesh was in the 3rd house, a socially influential placement, Amy’s music, style, and fashion left a lasting impact, inspiring many artists even after her passing.

Ashlesha ♀ Amy Winehouse was heavily influenced by Ashlesha ☉ native Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes, both in fashion and music. Ronnie’s thick black beehive hair and striking heavy eyeliner directly influenced Amy’s signature look—a style Ronnie pioneered at a time when most female artists weren’t styling themselves that way. Amy was also inspired by Ronnie’s powerful, passionate, and outspoken singing voice, which expressed deep emotions about tumultuous love. In the 1960s, The Ronettes sang about the intensity and rawness of romance, a theme that was considered more taboo compared to their counterparts, who mostly sang lighthearted, romantic doo-wop songs.
“When he's near me, I'll kiss him
And when he leaves me, woah, oh, oh, I'll miss him
Though sometimes we'll fight, I won't really care
And I'll know it's gonna be alright 'cause we've got so much we share” - Walking in the Rain by The Ronnettes
“And do I need you every minute of the day?
And would I die if you should ever go away?
And does it mean so much to feel your tender touch?
Do I love you? (Do I love you?)
Really love you? (Really love you?)” Do I love you by The Ronnettes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amy Winehouse similarly explored her own intense and troubled experiences with love through her songwriting and music.
“For you, I was a flame
Love is a losing game
Five-story fire as you came
Love is a losing game
One I wished I never played
Oh, what a mess we made
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game” - love is a losing game by Amy Winehouse
“Even if she's content in his warmth
She is plagued with urgency
Searching kisses, the man she misses
The man that he longs to be” - He can only hold her by Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse once met Ronnie Spector, a longtime idol of hers, and burst into tears upon meeting her. This emotional moment was sparked by the fact that Ronnie had performed a cover of “Back to Black” at one of her shows.

Natives with luminaries in a nakshatra are often inspired by those who share the same nakshatra in their lagnesh. Amy Winehouse has influenced many artists, but two of the most notable are Ashlesha ☽ artists Raye and Lana Del Rey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raye, often compared to Amy, shares a similar appearance, body-hugging dresses, heavy eyeliner, and a hypnotic, jazzy voice that conveys deep personal pain, particularly in romance. ( I have my own post of Raye here.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lana Del Rey, also an Ashlesha ☽, draws inspiration from Amy’s vintage style, haunting melodies, and raw, emotional lyrics. Fans have noticed these similarities, leading to numerous fan edits of Amy and Lana together, despite the two never having met. Lana herself admitted that after Amy’s passing, she lost the desire to make music, showing how deeply she was influenced by Amy Winehouse.

“I hit it off with George Harrison as soon as we met. We kept running into each other at parties and gatherings and always found our eyes meeting no matter how many other people were in the room.  George and I talked whenever we’d see each other. We found we liked the same things, long walks while wearing comfortable clothes and being with sincere people who liked us for ourselves and not because we were in show business. I think I was the happiest when I was talking with George. There was something about him that made me open up and spill out anything that was on my mind. I think he felt the same way, for he’d often call late in the evening and talk on the phone for hours. […] Neither of us felt any obligations, we just enjoyed being there together.  George playing and I, listening. […] Over there [at home in England] he’s at his best, he’s relaxed, he’s George Harrison, Englishman and not George Harrison, Beatle.” - Estelle Bennett, Photoplay (?) “George saw Estelle and flew over to her [at the Plaza Hotel in February 1964].” - Steve Brandt (journalist), Photoplay, June 1964
"Estelle and I went out on double dates with John and George a couple more times before we left London. They’d take us to all these romantic white-tablecloth restaurants, but once we got there all they’d want to talk about was American rock and roll. ‘Tell us about the Temptations,‘ George would say. Then John would ask, ‘What’s Ben E. King really like?‘ So we’d just go down the list, telling them stories about all the acts we worked with at the Brooklyn Fox. And as we’d talk, John and George would sit there like they were hypnotized. [...]
That night [ in NYC] John and George picked up Estelle and me in a limousine for a feast of ribs and chicken at Sherman’s Barbecue on 151st and Amsterdam in Harlem. And they loved it. Sherman’s is just a little takeout counter today, but back in 1964 it was beautiful, with lots of tables and a great big jukebox in back. But for the Beatles, the best part of all was that they could eat in peace. They may have been mobbed at the Plaza, but very few of their fans followed them into Harlem. In fact, the Beatles were no big deal up in Harlem. The people at Sherman’s were not exactly Murray the K’s crowd. They took one look at these guys with their long hair and funny clothes and went back to their ribs. If anything, they might have thought the Beatles were dorks. But you can bet Sherman never forgot that day. Every so often I still go into Sherman’s for takeout, and whenever I do, Sherman comes out from the kitchen to say hello. ‘I remember you!’ he always says. ‘You’re the little girl that brought the Beatles!’” - Ronnie Spector, Be My Baby (1990)

Art from thewakeyy on Instagram (the person has really cool art)
Ronnie Spector: John. As simple as that. (...) He was really my favorite one. We dated a couple of times and I remember him leaning over to me and saying "Ronnie, sing a little bit of Be My Baby in my ear". And I sang, "The night we met I needed you so ..." I looked over and he had passed out.
Taken from: Ronnie Spector on John Lennon, Phil Spector and Loving Life at 75. (The Herald Article)

Cute interview from Fabulous magazine about Brian Jones and Bill Wyman on Ready Steady Go:
"‘Hi Vicki’—a mop of pale hair with a guitar in its hand and a beautiful deep vented sports jacket ambles by, disguised as Brian Jones. ‘When are we on?’
‘You’re doing the Amateur Disc Jockey spot with Bill,’ I tell him. ‘What about choosing a record?’
Brian chews his thumb for a few minutes. ‘I know a knockout. Rag Doll by The Four Seasons. It was No. 1 in America when we were there. Or, what about The Beach Boys? We met them over there! All went to a party—wow! I hope they come over.’ He chews his thumb again. ‘Did we tell you Phil Spector came to our recording session in Chicago? You know Ronnie. The Ronettes’ head singer? Well, Phil’s recorded her solo and she’s got her own record out. Calls herself Veronica.’
We ramble on. ‘Could have the Ronettes new record? Good sound. Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry dropped in to see us. Nobody but us took any notice of them. We were knocked out.’
The director calls the boys for a run through. They start—all peering into the two monitors in front of them and pulling insane faces every time they are on close-up.
‘You look luvverly, dear,’ says Bill to Brian. He’s completely submerged in hair, don’t know how he knows it’s him!” ;D
