Ideas for Quirk training for the yakuza guys? Maybe throw in Gentle and La Brava?
I'll stick with the Yakuza since I have more then enough ideas for them. Plus, I really like the idea of this being part of the Hero Haul AU and this is Kai taking his gang on a retreat in order to "build team work"
Tumblr media
Hojo, Tabe, and Toya: Hojo would be making his crystals while Toya would be trying to pull them off of his body. In between them, Tabe would be trying to eat the flying crystals before Toya can catch them. This would train Hojo's production speed and durability of his crystals, increase Toya's range and pulling power, and improve Tabe's ability to catch and eat moving targets.
Rikiya and Deidoro: This two have a special job. They are two go around to where any one else is training and start harassing them, with Deidoro making them lose balance and Rikyia draining their energy. This not only helps train everyone else by add extra difficulty, but could help improve their own powers as well, like increasing Rikiya's drain rate and Deidoro's range.
Tengai: Since Tengai already has enough defensive power and can use his shields reactively, he doesn't really need to train those parts. What he could do is try to get better and forming moving the shields. Things like trying to slowly inch it forward to a certain point or trying to form the shield around other objects as a way to trap them within the barrier, improving his ability to control and deny an area.
Joi: Considering the only known limit of his power is the size limit of his power, he could try and take over larger objects and make them move around. He could try to take over small parts of larger objects. It be like what he did in the hideout, but on a smaller scale. Barring that, he could simply try to get better at shaping and controlling the objects, like trying to solve a puzzle box while he is the box.
Hari: Since Hari can't really train his power on other people without ruining a whole afternoon of training, the best choice for him would be to simply practice on dummies. Namely ones that are constantly moving around. This could help increase the speed and accuracy of his arrows, making the condition easier to inflict, Heck, it could even help grow the Quirk to the point where it can start working on objects as well as people.
Shin: While I do like the idea of Shin going around and asking people uncomfortable questions all day, I think his time would be served better elsewhere. Since so much of his power is based around questions, it'd be good for him to try and figure out better ways to phrase his words. He could also try and learn psychological tactics to try and dig for what would be the best questions to ask someone and how to best exploit their secrets.
Rappa: While I figure Rappa's training would involve him punching stuff, that's not the route I'm going to take. His training would involve him using his hands for literally anything else. Look, I've said that Rappa has been wasting his power and this would be a good chance. Things like rapidly doing tasks with his hands or using them to practice throwing's things. I don't care if I have to duct tape tools to his hands, he's going to do something other then punch things.
Kai: Overhaul was easily the hardest to come up with anything for. How can you go up any further from one of the strongest Quirks in the series. The only thing I could think of was the fusion aspect of his power. For all of his power, Kai's fusions seems very incomplete. Less perfection combination and more heinous hybrid. So maybe he could try practicing on some non-living objects, like trying to turn a bunch of metals into an alloy by trying to piece them together or something like that.

Hai :3 kai chisaki for drink Headcannon🥛, stress headcanon💣, sadness Headcannon⛈️, and work headcannon💼 pls :3
And also tengai for a family headcannon and a stress Headcannon. I’m forcing you to think about him.
Kai Chisaki:
Drink: This man runs off of ungodly amounts of caffeine energy drinks, possibly spiked with alcohol. However, if for some reason he is being forced to take some downtime, he'd probably like hot and sweet drinks, like hot chocolate or sweeter styles of coffee. Not that he'll actively search for things he likes. I don't think he views himself as worthy of pleasure.
Stress: Always. All the time. Being trans and gay in a highly conservative and high-control yakuza group + untreated childhood trauma + absolute workaholic is NOT an equation for relaxation. He is, of course, much more snappy and irritable when he's stressed, and that stress tends to leak out and make all the other Expendables stressed as well.
Sadness: He's too alexithymic/emotionally unintelligent/depressed to be Sad, exactly. He tends to process things very logically while ignoring his own emotions outright. But I feel like if one of his Expendables/Bullets, despite their name, actually died? The grief would paralyze him until he finally lets himself break down crying. Even worse if that Expendable is Kurono or Irinaka or Katsukame because of his history with them.
Work: Touched on this in the Stress headcanon, but yeah, absolute workaholic. His favorite parts of work used to be working in the lab and experimenting because Biochemistry Special Interest, but then depression hit and sapped away his passion and interest, as depression tends to do.
Tengai:
Family: Haven't thought about this a lot--I believe he's like, in his 50s and was a Buddhist monk? So probably his 'family' was the monastery he was in until they kicked him out for reasons unknown, and now you could argue that his family is the Expendables. I can see him viewing Rappa as a particularly annoying younger brother :P
Stress: Rappa stresses him out canonically, but I think that he prefers to retreat to a quiet or dark room and meditate if he can when he's stressed. He's probably the best (besides maybe Nemoto) out of everyone in the Expendables/Chisaki's side of the Hassaikai at handing stress because of his past as a Buddhist monk.

Overhaul: have you ever worked a job before this?
Tengai: yeah, I worked at a zoo for a bit.
Overhaul: great, and what did you take from that?
Tengai: ….definitely not a red panda.
Overhaul: …what?
Tengai: what?
Chrono: real talk, you’ll need that zoo experience, the people here are animals.

I’m only asking this because I personally believe you don’t talk about it nearly as much as you want to. So you’ve mentioned a few ideas about the Herohaul AU and Eri a few times, but I’d like to expand the idea a little further. I imagine that he’d probably be a morally grey kind of hero and thus would still have formed the eight bullets as his sidekicks in a “suicide squad” villain reformation program. So how might the might the rest of the yakuza and the eight bullets work as heroes?
You are one hundred percent right. Not only do I really enjoy writing about villain as heroes, but I especially like the idea of Hero Haul specifically. I've already talked about how they'd be as heroes, but I'll go more into them as people here.
Tumblr media
Joi and Hari would be the only proper heroes that are part of Overhaul's hero team. As for the Eight Bullets, they would be Kai's sidekicks, but not former villains. Instead, they would be the bottom of the barrel, either barely function heroes at the lowest of the rankings or people Overhaul took in as sidekicks under his supervision. Of the two, I prefer the latter. Kai is someone who sees the potential in people, whether they know it or not. He takes what is broken and makes it work, forming these lost, undisciplined men and turning them into proper heroes. Now, this kind of process naturally results in less then stellar heroes on paper, with a lot people seeing them as a bunch of thugs that only follow Kai's orders. However, they cannot argue with results, with each member giving it their all out of sense of loyalty to please Kai. I think that fits with Kai's general disposition towards the Eight Bullets in the original story, taking these lost nobodies and making them useful, and fit Overhaul's inspiration of the Buddha, hanging out with the dregs of society and enlightening them to higher levels of understanding. Now, as for how they met:
Hari-Time Out: Kai's oldest friend and ally since their time at hero school together. Often takes the role as second in command and tactical advisor on the field.
Joi- An admittedly career focused hero who joined Kai for the money, yet still a competent and loyal partner. Handles a lot of the agents and paperwork of the agency
Shin-Confessor: Genuinely inspired by Kai as a person, especially his very honest and direct way of conducting himself, and asked to join him. Easily Kai's most loyal and normal sidekick.
Deidoro-Barfly: A bum on his way to drinking himself to death that accidently beat everyone in a massive bar brawl with his power. Tries to clean himself up, but is still considered an "embarrassment" by the public.
Toya-Pickpocket: Toya was saved by Overhaul after the attempt on his own life. Kai convinced him to instead take this chance to rebuild himself, new and better. Became of one the fan favorites of the sidekicks.
Tabe- Kai was called to the scene of the fearsome looking Tabe begging and scrounging for food from a shop keeper. He pitied Tabe and helped him out. Still wears the bag mask out of fear how he looks would scare people.
Hojo-Diamondback: Hojo was saved and healed by Kai after others tried to exploit him for the crystals on his back. His wishes to shine makes him one of the most dedicated to the ideas of self improvement.
Rikiya-Leacher: A man lacking in motivation and direction, he mostly got by on draining others to live. Unknowingly tried to take some stamina from Kai, who gave him real direction. The laziest of all the sidekicks.
Tengai-Shelter: Found by Kai using his Quirk illegally to protect himself from villains. Kai claimed Tengai was his sidekick in training and Tengai followed along with it until it stuck. The closest of the sidekicks to a proper hero.
Rappa-Ripper: Rappa made an attempt on Kai's life. That did not end well for him. Rather then having him arrested, Kai decided to welcome him into the flock, promising him plenty of good fights. Hardest to properly control out of the sidekicks.

So! Tengai headcannons! You’ve really done it now because he is one of my favourite Little Guys to put in Situations. Alright here we go:
He’s blind in one eye and is partially blind in the other, but has almost perfect vision in the not blind one wearing contacts. Kai has offered to fix them before but Tengai says there’s no need; his barriers act as a form of echolocation, he can tell exactly what’s in the barriers even without needing to see it. (Also I found out today that Mice and tenrecs communicate and find their way with echolocation, and also that it’s called echolocation because they use the sounds they make to locate the echos and find their way around based on that. Also if you don’t now what tenrecs are, Google them, they look like Pokemon. Back to Tengai!)
He’s autistic as fuck (same) and his mask is noise muffling to help him deal with sensory issues. It doesn’t completely cancel out noise, but it does make everything quieter and easier to handle. He’s frequently seen wearing headphones or earmuffs (which i..just figured out is short for ear mufflers..) when he isn’t wearing his beak mask. Due to his partial blindness, his hearing is increased, which makes everything worse for the poor baby.
His favourite animals are red pandas and opossums, but he also loves watching the koi in pops’ pond. He once saw a red panda for sale on a black market Overhaul and a couple others dragged him to and begged Kai to let him get it for the rest of the day. He was like a child asking their mother for sweets- after literally the entire day of him not shutting up, he was eventually allowed it and now he has a pet red panda that roams a few select rooms in the compound and a sectioned off area in the garden. Rappa doesn’t let Tengai forget about how much he begged, and he doesn’t let overhaul forget about giving in.
Prior to the red panda fiasco, he would bring in small animals like hedgehogs, rats, squirrels and birds, that had been injured and nurse them back to health. However he isn’t allowed anymore, as it was one of the conditions that was agreed upon for the red panda, along with Tengai taking full care of it, paying for everything with his own money, having to find a vets for it himself, as Kai refused to touch it to heal it if it got sick or injured, and a few more things.
And here’s the sad backstory cos you know I had to do it to ‘em.
His parents abandoned him at an orphanage when he was born, so he never knew them. He was moved around from foster home to foster home for a few years, until he eventually ended up at a Buddhist monastery that offered to take him in. No parents wanted him, due to his blindness, which he was born with. He was still relatively young by the time the monastery took him in, 6 at most. He enjoyed living there, he loved learning about the history of the religion, and he loved how peaceful everything was. He liked the people there, as typically they treated him with nothing but kindness. It wasn’t the most amazing place for a child to grow up, as he got very little socialisation with other kids, and being around only adults meant no one completely Got It, as adults typically don’t. However, when he was nine, he was allowed to attend a private school. This was where he had his first encounter with Rappa.
The first day there, on the first break, Tengai was sat out on the benches, reading and listening to the other kids, when he heard yelling and commotion. He looked up and saw a kid very clearly a couple of years older than him getting into a fight. He wasn’t sure what to do so he kept away, he’d never seen huge conflict like this and it terrified him.
As the day continued, he was horrified to find out he shared most classes with the kid who had started the fight and due to his calm demeanour, he was the mediator child and was made to sit next to rappa in almost all the classes they shared.
As the years passed, Rappa and Tengai decided they should probably try to get on since they absolutely weren’t going to be able to get away from each other any time soon, and they also didn’t have any other friends because Rappa scared everyone off and Tengai didn’t like talking to people, so it was the best they were gonna get.
However it all came crashing down when they were 15 and 16. By now they were in a new school and Rappa got into a massive fight, which ended in the other kid in hospital and Tengai getting punched trying to calm it down (he now has two fillings in his bottom right pre-molars) due to this, Rappa was expelled and they had no way to contact each other, as Tengai didn’t have a phone. The next few years passed and Tengai was alone the entire time. He tried to explain to the others at the monastery but still being the youngest by quite a bit, no one really got it.
Eventually, when he was 19, Tengai decided to leave and find somewhere else to live. He gathered up money over the last 4 years from freelance jobs here and there. Once he’d moved into his own apartment, he was walking at night and heard yelling from an alleyway. He decided to go and see what was happening, see if he could calm it down, and to his surprise, he found Rappa in a fight with someone he didn’t recognise. He put up a barrier around the other man and ran to Rappa.
After narrowly dodging a punch, Rappa recognised him and was excited to see him again. He knocked out the other guy and offered to show Tengai where he was saying. Tengai cautiously agreed and off they went to the compound. On the way, they caught up some, Tengai explained what his living situation was like, how he was in and out of work and struggling to keep a job due to the constant sensory overload.
They finally got to the compound and This was where they found overhaul in the garden, panicking over a snake that had gotten in. Tengai managed to bubble it and take it away while Rappa explained to overhaul what was going on with him, who he was, why he was with Rappa and such. Tengai backed up what he said and overhaul decided he could be useful to have around, and offered to let Tengai stay with them if he worked for them. Tengai, not being an idiot, questioned it and overhaul gave an entirely sugarcoated version of what they did and while Tengai was skeptical, by the time he figured out what was actually going on, he was in too deep and had to see it through.
It wasn’t all bad, however. He got on well with Kurono, pops and the trash trio, he was happy to be back with his childhood friend, even if he was a lot louder and rowdier now. He eventually got a happy ending, it just took a while.
I have more I just can’t remember rn and also I’ve been typing for over an hour :’)
yea typing that much can be exhausting believe me i've done it
These are great headcanons!
