Here is my final offer, rounding off the week with some good ol' angst. Based on todays prompt, an excerpt from another modern role reversal WIP: The Road to Ruin & Beauty

“Hey, look at me.” Sophie pulled Benedict back to her, so she could look him in the eye. “I’m yours and no one can change that,” she said fiercely.

She could lose her independence, her inheritance, her freedom. But she would not lose him. She would go to hell before forsaking him.

Benedict looked back at her, tears still slipping down his cheeks.

“But Phillip Cavender can.”

He scraped something off the bedside table and presented it to her. A ring that felt ten times weightier when she wore it, regardless of the ostentatious jewel at its centre.

With bile in her stomach she took the ring, suddenly cold. She looked up to see her beautiful Benedict with cracks in his blue eyes. “And he will—it is only a matter of time.”

Today on another episode of stories I'm too sleep deprived to write: past life reincarnation au. But it's just a universe where the Bridgertons fall in love but they never quite get their happy endings

Daphne saw a betrayed Simon chose to willingly get shot by Anthony and leave England in shame rather than marry her.

Anthony married Edwina and lived to know Kate died of a horseback riding accident shortly after the wedding

Benedict was rejected by Sophie, who chose to take the next ship to America instead of accepting his offer to be his mistress

Colin discovering her secret scared Penelope enough she vanished from his life without a trace.

Francesca never saw Michael again after he confessed he loved her.

And Eloise never took a chance on Sir Phillip, once she found out that he had children, she went back home with her brothers and tried to live her spinster life. Reason for which, he simply married another lady soon after his mourning period was over.

Hyacinth fell in love with Gareth, who chose to marry the next heiress he met rather than indulge her in her adventures

And Gregory was too slow and too late to Lucy's wedding. Knowing he was most likely the father of her and Haselby's only child

So, what happens when all your life you live to regret one mistake that cost you the love of your life. Wondering if you could have done anything different, then maybe you could have been happy.

And then a freak accident happens in Aubrey Hall and all the Bridgertons wake up on the morning of Daphne's debut.

Gregory and Hyacinth, rightfully horrified at having to go trough puberty again. Just want to see where young Gareth and Lucy are holed up and bring them to London, so at least growing up for a second time will be less terrible.

While Anthony is plotting exactly how to begin courting Kate Sharma despite knowing his disastrous marriage to Edwina left him jaded and broken in the romance department. And that he never got over Kate's death

Daphne has to tread the thin line between flirting with Simon and spooking him into running from her. Without resorting to a fake engagement

Benedict has the dubious mission of catching Sophie without tarnishing her reputation knowing she's wily enough to slip away from his grasp with whatever method he chooses. Even if he offered marriage, he would still need to take her out of Araminta's grasp and earn her trust. And his lady in silver is stubborn enough to resist him

Colin has to get close to Penelope without letting her find out he knows her secret while at the same time officially courting her like a gentleman and protecting her from the unsavory parts of her work. At the same time that he tries to infiltrate the steadily growing network of connections she built as LW that allowed her to disappear from his life in his first lifetime

Eloise has to live with the knowledge that she is now inlove with a very married man and worry about the moral implications of visiting Marina and befriending Phillip so soon after their marriage. After all, if Eloise intervenes Marina could live, but she'd lose Phillip again

And Francesca has to figure out quick, how to choose between her two great loves. Michael and John. Both of whom she never got over. Before it's time for her debut in society

If one mistake could cost you the love of your life, what mistakes exactly would you be willing to make? Well, the Bridgertons sure are going to find out

about the haunted AU?

Well, I guess I want something with haunted undertones, but it isn't just a "ghost story."

Basically, I will mess around with the timelines and then add Nathaniel and his siblings around a time and setting where Midas and co. will be. Rather than focusing on the School Masters dying bit, it deals with complicated family histories Nathan didn't even notice until then.

It involves a daughter of Rafal who is Midas' ward and heiress to his fortune, as well as her father's. Rafal is dead here, as well as her mom. (She never met her mom anyway.) Basically the daughter used to live in the city but with her delicate health she lives more in the country. Lady Lesso serves a governess, and Sophie as a meddling aunt.

Nathaniel, after having met Midas once because of a visit prompted by Sophie, for her nephew, gets arranged into a marriage with the daughter. Sophie is really pissed because her sister's undeserving ward ("undeserving," she's a bit classist here) What Midas really wants though is a guy great at business and money, which Nathan checks out.

What really tips the scale is the arrival of the daughter's cousins (if ykyk) and then one of them being a prospect for Angelina, which really sets Sophie and Princess Josephine off!

I guess the ghost part will be a haunted area or something, and there are a bunch of speculations why it's happening.

Little sisters Edwina, Posy, and Felicity terrorizing their older sister's stalker lover (aka the ABC brothers) is such a funny concept to me especially when I'm imagining actual little girls who probably don't even reach past the brothers' shoulders and haven't gone through puberty yet successfully bullying and cockblocking ABC like it's their sole reason to live. Then the BridgertonBros are tearing their hairs out because they are LOSING to a bunch of little girls. And the funniest part of this to me would be if Kate, Sophie, and Pen are slightly oblivious to all of the chaos and warring behind their backs like they know their little sisters are menaces to society but they are absolute angels who thrive in their older sister's affections so they couldn't be that bad, right??? And absolutely do NOT believe a word those horny Bridgerton men are saying about their precious little sisters.

Pfft this makes me think of an AU of where the Sharmas came to London early because they can't wait for Edwina to come to age to debute so Kate is trying to find a good match for her family. In an attempt to keep the Penwood estate in the Gunningworth family, Richard legitimized Sophie as the heiress, so now she's looking for a match in London too. Penelope was debuted early at 17 despite asking her mama to wait another year.

Anthony and Benedict are trying their damn best to woo Kate and Sophie at the balls. Unfortunately for Anthony, his reputation as a rake is coming back to bite him in the ass as is his duty as head of the family with Simon and Daphne coming up with this fake courtship scheme.

Benedict needs a better strategy than following Sophie around like a lost puppy. She thinks he's lonely, and since she actually knows his name without confusing him for one of his brothers, he's coming to her for a friendly chat.

Colin is sitting back, laughing at his brothers as he throws in his own matchmaking scheme or two. He may also be sticking to Penelope's side like glue claiming he wants to spend these dreadful balls with a friend when in reality he's claiming Penelope for himself while trying to plan how to best court her so there's no way she says no.

Enter 17 year olds Edwina and Posy, and 10 year old Felicity. All of whom are protective of their big sisters, and believe their sisters deserve better than some horny Bridgerton. Look at them! Those Bridgertons stare at their sisters like they're gonna eat them! They're not gonna take their sisters away!

Edwina believes her big sister deserves a love match, and no Capitol R rake is gonna give that to Kate! Kate may say she's looking for a marriage of convenience, but Edwina knows Kate is a romantic underneath. If only she were a year older so she may debute as well and she could truly see how these so called gentlemen act when they think no one is watching at the balls instead of only seeing them in their drawing room. One more year, Edwina tells herself. She has to convince Kate that she can help take part of the responsibilities of finding an advantageous match that way Kate does not choose the most advantageous of her current suitors. Which sadly for Edwina is that damn Bridgerton rake.

Posy also wishes she was another year older. That way, she could be at Sophie's side during balls. During their lifetime, Posy truly believes Sophie is the only one who truly loves her, and Posy loves Sophie more than anyone else in the whole world. She knows Sophie has lived an unfair life and Posy is determined to make sure the rest of her sister's life is filled with love. That starts by having her find a love match. Something she believes the bohemian Bridgerton would not be able to do. Love at first sight Posy's ass, that man is just horny!

Felicity has believed Colin to be a wolf in sheep's clothing for years, just waiting for her beloved sister to debute. Sadly, their families are too entangled with their mothers' friendship, Penelope's friendship with Eloise and Colin, and Felicity's own friendship with Hyacinth. There's no way Colin and Penelope wouldn't have interacted with one another. But it has also worked in Felicity's favor with their families being so entertwined. No one questions seeing one another in the other's house, and Bridgertons' prank wars have also definitely helped Felicity stop that horny Bridgerton's plan more than once. Colin is too fickle. He'll get bored and run off to some other country. Felicity will not stand to see her sister ignored by a husband after she has been ignored the majority of her life.

Edwina and Posy, who have become friends with Penelope and Eloise, also use the Bridgertons sibling rivalry to their advantage. Eloise loves messing with her brothers, so she's down for Edwina's and Posy's schemes.

At some point after Anthony, Benedict, and Colin ask for the parents' approval, they have to face the little sisters for their approval, too.

I love that so much of Manhunt takes place in New Hampshire. Like, Sophie, a “yas queen slay” straight girl heiress who runs the giant creepy bunker complex and is trying to have a child with her pet omegaverse au guy, I know seven bitches like that. That’s such a New Hampshire crime to commit. She is the platonic ideal of rich girl from Southern New Hampshire.

Oh, this. I love it, but the practical side of my brain breaks out into a cold sweat when I think about it. The concept as teased out on my innocent blog (ha) is basically three stories in one universe - again - and I know from experience that's a lot to take on at once. There's a reason why I didn't wind up fleshing out a lot of stuff in DYWGU.

Practicalities aside, because we know I'm not as driven by practicality as I could be, this is all to say that, yes, I have been thinking about this AU. A lot of it has been about structure, because structure would dictate a lot - is it three stories all happening in one fic, or three distinct stories happening in one universe? I had a thought about it being one monster of a fic with Bea/Naomi/Roman being POV characters whose stories wove in and out of each others', but it would be such a tremendous effort that it would probably eliminate any chance of me juggling as many fics as I normally do. At the time of YKWniverse, that was my only project.

Uh, more to what I think you were asking, as narrative/character ideas. I spent a good amount of time (buses are good for this) conceptualizing the Kendall/Naomi relationship outside of what we saw, but specifically from Naomi's angle. Historically, Naomi has not had much success in relationships. She's fun at a party and can be affectionate and warm in her own way, but she's very insecure, and has a habit of letting boundaries get pushed through even on accident. Kendall has/had many faults, but he had a deep understanding of where Naomi was coming from, and respected her boundaries. At the time of Kendall's death, Naomi's decided it's do-or-die with Kendall, and was on the verge of suggesting a serious step or running away from the possibility of a real, full relationship in inexperienced terror. Naomi has never been seen the way she's been seen by Kendall, and it's true for Kendall as well. That night in the helicopter was transcendent for both in a way - not love at first sight, but deep connection at first high.

When it comes to Stewy and Kendall's death, it wrecks him in a single blow. He's Stewy, though, so he falls into a deep depression and tortures himself with the past and what might have been had he reached out with more effort, but makes a serious effort to engage with the world around him only for it to become very clear he shouldn't. Roman is the one who finally convinces him, after hearing enough gossip, to step aside for a time and just try to survive the worst of the grief. Stewy can't even bring himself to talk about it, and devotes himself wholly to listening to Roman instead, because he needs it - Stewy certainly doesn't, right? - and god knows Stewy's used to listening to Roys talk. It's a long time before Stewy brings himself to ever mention how deep the relationship and the scarring with regards to Kendall goes.

Bea is the simplest arc here, by sight alone - Kendall's daughter, addict, beloved of her family, and heiress to the throne, trying to put the pieces of the past together. I think this turns into a story of generational trauma, not just of Bea, but how Logan's parenting impacted not only his children but his children's children, including Iverson, Sophie, any kids Roman and Stewy have, and Bea. The parents are still deeply impacted by the events and will push back on anyone trying to dig it back up, but once Bea starts to dig she won't be alone.

God it took forever to write this ask. Lol. I'm so grateful it didn't refresh midway like it did one time I wrote one of these.

She knew it was silly to get jealous, they we’re together, the whole world knew it but watching the Greek Heiress that he had once dated have her hands all over him…

Well it made her want to walk over there and yank the hair extensions from her head and give her a reason to have some much foundation caked on.

Charlie watched Sophie with amusement “you look like your contemplating murder sister or either that or your going to mount Benedict in public… either way I don’t wanna watch this”

“Hmmmm” Sophie replied, her lips pursed “excuse me” she said and she decided that enough was enough.

The woman, Tessa, had her hand inching up Benedict’s arm and honestly, Sophie was ready to do something very indecent at a charity event, so rather than create a scene she walked over to them, a smile plastered on her face.

Benedict smirked as he saw Sophie walking over, he didn’t want Tessa all over him and was trying to politely remove himself but he saw the flash in Sophie’s eyes and it excited him

“Your highness” Sophie said in her most Ladylike tone.

“Why hello my lady” he grinned at her as Sophie casually pushed her way past Tessa and slipped her arm around his waist “have you met Miss Tessa James…”

“I can’t say I have” Sophie said looking at the woman who was looking her up and down

“Ah I’ve.. not had the pleasure”

“Well, Miss James allow me to introduce the woman I was just talking to you about, Lady Sophia Gunningworth. Otherwise known as Sophie the Pocket Rocker Beckett, my girlfriend”

“It’s a pleasure Lady Gunningworth.”

“Indeed, please excuse us, I need to borrow his highness for an urgent matter” she said tugging Benedict away and she heard her brothers bark of laughter behind her and made a note to murder him later.

“And what, pray tell, is this urgent matter?” Benedict asked as they weren’t quite out of earshot of Tessa

“Your going to fuck me in the nearest coat closet” Sophie said, her voice carrying and she heard the gasp from Tessa and her glass shattering as she dropped it.

Benedict laughed as he started to run out of the room “Jealousy seems to be a great motivator for you.”

“I’m not…” Sophie said as Benedict opened the door to a broom closet and pulled Sophie in before she could say anything else

“Oh my love, I recognise the look, I had it myself when you were talking to Ronaldo at the Ballon d’or awards…” he smirked “now, I think I’ve got some urgent business to take care off…” he smirked as he dropped to his knees and disappeared beneath Sophie’s skirts and made her scream several times before they reappeared into the party both looking dishevelled and Charlie just sighing “can we get through ONE party without you two fucking in a cupboard”

Sophie just giggled “probably not it’s too much fun”

Though getting caught the following week by the King… was a little off putting and did stop them for a few weeks anyway.

So first I'm sorry for the long wait, I've been on holiday for various periods of time and away from my laptop!

Also, I made a bit of a mistake, Sophie and Lucy do not travel back in time together, Sophie finds Lucy after they have both travelled back.

Like @bridgertonbabe idea, Sophie travels back atleast four years and, fuelled by her love and memory of Benedict, sets out ot find him. She uses her powers to shapeshift and explore the entirety of the British Isles, travelling for a bit with Francesca & Michael's Mystic Show, and coming upon various other Bridgertons. All the while her love never falters, but her energy and hope does.

Three years she has been searching, yet she cannot find him. Three years of waking up aching to be with him. Three years of never being able to settle her features. Three years of loving and seperation that builds on the two years of their lives that Penelope snatched away from them.

And so, she doesn't give up, but she does get distracted when she looks at a newspaper to find a picture of Lucy underneath the title; 'Black ward named Heiress'.

And Sophie, who has always tried to protect Lucy, decides to help Lucy, especially when the article details the mysterious origins and amnesia linked to Lucy.

And so, Sophie gets a position as her ladies maid with a forged letter of recommendation. Initially Sophie is disheartened that Lucy does not immediatley remember her, but she realises that it might be useful to ease Lucy into her memories, instead of bombarding her with them, just in case her powers go out of whack. (Sophie has no idea that Lucy has no powers, for she was unconscious when Gregory took Lucy's power in the OG timeline). So little by little, Sophie starts inserting titbits;

She always hums Taylor Swift songs, she makes Lucy her favourite food, prompts Lucy to talk about siblings and nudges her to pick up the violin. The latter being particualrly powerful trigger. However, it is all too little too late, for Lucy is still ensnared by Lord Haselby into the wedding even though Sophie knows there had been feeling between Lucy and a certain Bridgerton...

So I had a hilarious idea for a Benophie au

In which Sophie was legitimized as the daughter of the Earl of Gunningworth and is determined to not get married in order to cash in on her complete inheritance as soon as she's on the shelf. Because she doesn't want a husband to get his hands on her money the way Araminta did with her father

Cue Sophie being one of the many mildly ellegible misses of the Ton and meeting the Bridgertons at a much younger age. Going to balls and trying to avoid marriage but still having fun flirting with suitors to appease her father

Then she gets the brilliant idea that she's going to get a lover because she wants to know how that feels like. Better yet she's going to seduce some man at the Bridgerton masquerade

Sophie confides the plan to Kate. As a good best friend, Kate doesn't approve of Sophie's plan. Sophie doesn't care. She's going to dance at the masquerade and find a guy.

"Kate!! Kate wake up!" Sophie hissed poking Kate with a stick from the edge of her bed

"Sophie? Wait what are you doing here at.... Dawn" Kate yawned "and wearing a man's shirt of all things??"

"all right so remember yesterday's plan? I may have girlbossed to close to the sun" the Gunningworth heiress said sheepishly

"oh gosh Sophie what did you do"

"I stole some gentlemen's first time" Sophie confessed " as in, you know... I was His first"

"you slept with a virgin??"

"I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS A VIRGIN!!" Sophie protested "He looked good in his mask, and we got kissing and I practically pushed him down on the bed" Sophie looked anything but ashamed "he's a Bridgerton, who in the world would believe one of those is a virgin?"

"oh no!" Kate gasped in horror "you slept with a Bridgerton, you slept with one of the owners of this house, this is bad, terrible, not good" Kate's eyes got impossibly wider " wait which Bridgerton? Because there's no way the Viscount is a virgin, that clown has the look of a man who knows what a woman looks like naked"

"no, not the Viscount, the second one, Benedict"

"The one who can't sit properly in a chair to save his life?" Kate reviwed the fee times she'd come across Benedict Bridgerton and decided that Sophie was right "Well I can definitely see why you wouldn't think he's a virgin" he had too much tendency to lie down in flat surfaces for one

"It gets worse"

"worse than taking a Bridgerton's first time?" Kate snorted

"well he may have proposed in the middle of sex" Sophie paused before adding " something about love at first sight"

"oh no, he's one of those romantic lunatics" Kate groaned covering her face with her hands "still..you're still wearing your mask !! He didn't even see your entire face, we can fix this"

" it's like he wants me to take responsibility for his virginity by marrying him" Sophie groaned "I'm not ready to get married Kate, I'm too young and too wild, to be tied down"

"and what am I supposed to do about it?" Kate wanted to help but really this sounded like a terrible mess " wait, if you spend the night with him, but you are here... did you just vanish from his bed while he took a nap?"

Sophie looked down and nodded "I'm hoping he'll wake up and think it was all a dream"

Kate was about to refute her when the kind voice of Penelope Featherington knocked on the door "good morning Kate, sorry for waking you up so early"

" Hi Penelope, if the Viscount is looking for Edwina please tell him she was indisposed last night so she slept in mother's room " Kate called out making a motion for Sophie to be quiet

"No, I'm looking for someone else actually, did you happen to see a five foot two blonde in a pink mask last night? A friend of mine is looking for her.... to return a glove"

Kate observed the very underdressed Sophie and guessed that it wasn't just a glove that needed to be returned. Infront of her Sophie was making a No no no motion with all her might

"Sorry Penelope, I don't know anyone who fits that description"

"Oh, that's quite all right, maybe we'll see her at noon, the person has to show up eventually right?" Penelope replied and soon left to knock on another door

It was so easy to forget how much of a Bridgerton Penelope Featherington was until things like these happened. Whenever Penelope subconsciously performed the duties of a sister in law to perfection one was reminded that she was the closest thing to a daughter in law that the family had. Kate and Sophie often wondered if the girl knew it

Being patient enough to wait for the globetrotter Bridgerton to propose must take the perseverance of a saint after all..

"Penelope is very observant, she won't take an excuse for long" Kate told Sophie quite seriously " so how do you plan to escape Benedict's proposal?"

Sophie seemed to think about it for a moment "what if I pretend to be your maid?"

Featuring Kate as the sensible best friend who will now proceed to hide Sophie from Benedict and gaslight Anthony into believing he never invited Sophie to this house party.

And Penelope, the wallflower who seems not to know she's the designated Bridgerton sister in law.

Meanwhile Benedict is that dude who just wants to meet his Cinderella again, kiss her, marry her, and have a repeat of the masquerade night all over again

Evermore loyal, evermore quarrelsome, never could someone see them ever far from the other if they’re in the same location. Some may joke that it’s only natural for “grandparents” to join together and coo over the youth; some may even reason that their pettiness would want them to keep an eye on another that way they can bother the other at an opportune time. As mentioned before, they are exceptionally faithful but bicker and are compelled to join another and keep each other company, regardless of what is going on. It would be a mistake to get in their way, primarily if they mean to find the other. There is sometimes a purpose to why they want to meet, there sometimes isn’t a purpose too. To put it simply, both regard the other’s company fondly, regardless of the show they may put on for onlookers. It isn’t like Sophie would leave Rei alone, especially if he’s out in the sunlight and he doesn’t have his umbrella -- which is why she always comes prepared for him. 

At first, Sophie claimed she was clueless on the world of idols, specifically younger idols starting out as she was used to working with older idols in the industry. Knowing Rei Sakuma in the first few months led to her dabbling into UNDEAD’s music, which had quickly become her favorites, which she won’t ever stubbornly tell the unit leader. Though, over the years, and how poorly she hides it, Rei still hears her humming his songs while she’s doing her duties (signing papers, seamstressing/hatmaking, cleaning, cooking/baking, etc). If he’s quiet enough and makes himself not known, he’d be surprised to hear her sing, which is something she never reveals openly.

Sophie has extended her hand to Rei and they have periodically danced together. Heir and heiress are meant to know how to maneuver in the strange world they function in, which includes certain traditions strange for modern time. Though they find peace in their circumstances with another, trying to pull at another’s buttons and get some competitive streak in them to dance. But, they don’t dance to prove something against another, it’s a way to alleviate themselves and release a bit of their retained energy. Classical dancing is their go-to and while it may start slow and serious, Rei could pick her up easily and she squeaks in surprise before she joins in his laughter. Rei, however, deals with Sophie’s stubbornness when she wants to lead, which is hilarious since he’s quite a bit taller than her. 

Touches mean a lot for the two whose appearances and bodies have become either a part of a brand or instrumental in their role and heir/heiress. It isn’t ever something too extreme in how they perform their physical intimacy and it isn’t like they cling to another, but they touch with care and caution. It is usually Sophie’s initiation that Rei doesn’t find bothersome after this time, especially when she plays with his hair or grooms him (making sure he’s dressed sharply and he’s well-prepared), or linking their arms together. Sometimes, and just sometimes, she would use both of her scarred hands to hold one of his and she genuinely smiles at him. On Sophie’s receiving end, Rei is more sporadic in touch, it could go from linking arms to holding the corner of her sleeve, or even picking her up (usually Night Rei’s doing and he finds it hilarious how she clings to him). As caution was mentioned, someone can see this happening more if they feel the other is in danger/the other is being targeted. Sophie has brushed her shoulder against Rei’s and stands before him, his chest to her back, determined to protect him.
