8) Where do you take your inspiration from?

Lots of places. It can be a scene I've just seen in a tv show, an image on Pinterest, a phrase I've read in a book, a real-life event or situation, and so on. Examples? Yrsa, the main character in Blame It on Cider (the travelling herbalist) popped into my head during a mountain hike. I started wondering what kind of character could lead a life on the road... and you know what happened next ;)

11) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it?

Sadly (?), I have never been criticized for my stories... yet. Well, almost. I really appreciate constructive feedback and wouldn't mind receiving it. The only critical remarks I sometimes receive come from my betas (thank you @legolasbadass and @linasofia 🥰) before I post my works so I fix any errors before they get to my lovely readers. But if the criticisms were to focus on my creative choices ("Why is she red-haired? I want a blonde OC!", "I want this story to end differently", "This is wrong, I want Thorin to hate vanilla ice cream and go for the strawberry-flavoured ones in this scene"), I would most probably respectfully decline them. Anyway, if the criticisms make sense and refer, for example, to the inherent logic of the story (or worldbuilding), I'll be happy to receive them from my readers, so that I can improve and become a better writer. However, there was this one time when someone was upset that I introduced canon characters who are LGBTQ+ in my fic, and this is the kind of criticism I choose to ignore.

19) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to?

3. Do you write fics from start or finish, or jump around?

As much as possible, I try to write from start to...middle of the story where it dies. Sometimes, I write one scene or a part ahead (like in my blursed AU) but usually, I write as the story develops.

7. Which part of writing do you struggle with most?

Rereading. Posting.

The story goes like this: I start something, I am motivated, I write thousands of words. I post one chapter, maybe two...I go on writing, but I somehow can't bring myself to read what I've written, let alone think about putting it out there. Rinse and repeat with other stories.

I am terrible and I cannot explain why it is like this. Whatever story you might have read of mine that was abandoned in a ditch; I can promise you that there are between 1 - 5 chapters written and sitting in a document that I might well never touch again.

Then, there are short (mainly smutty) stories I've written that will never see the light of day either...

The intrusion into your personal space was as masterful as it was unexpected.

In sober truth, you’d thought it out badly, and were courting danger since the moment you had stepped onto the same talan with him and nodded softly in response to his reserved greeting.

But you played on, with your smiles, with your wit, even with your silence.

Whatever came out of it was your own goal and doing…

The twilight was his friend more than it was yours. All it could do for you was to conceal the colour that had rushed to your face at being locked in ice-cold arms and pulled into an embrace so intimate it had you freeze in your skin, too.

“Be calm. I mean no harm.”      

“Haldir…”

You couldn’t tell whose heart had skipped a bit - the single throb echoed in your chest unpleasantly. It would have made you so much calmer, had you been sure it was yours.  

“You sought for my affection. Why does it pain you to accept it?”

The tone of detached curiosity clashed with the softness of his hand, running down your hair slowly, with little intention to stop, as if you were begging him for it.

His touch was plain and perfect. Careful, marked with respect and yet heavy with a promise of better things to come. And sweet. A true dream of a maiden in love.   

Oh, how you would have triumphed by now…had he been not him.

It helped you to remember why you’d come here for. And it helped you to close your eyes, when he brought your palm against his face – why was he so cold still? – and leaned into it to admit to his surrender.  

It felt like the kiss would leave a flaming mark on you for weeks ahead...

It all ended as abruptly as it had started.

In one fleeting second, his arms were no longer around you. You tried and failed to recollect when he had managed to get himself out of your reach, let alone your touch.  

“He left,” said he, the level gaze holding your uncomprehending one, “You can go now, too.”

You betrayed yourself too quickly. Against your will your glance darted to the talan mallorns and mallorns away from yours.

Empty.

The clipped chuckle from the direction of your companion told you there was no use in more pretense.   

“Why did you do this, Haldir?”

He shrugged, as though the reason was self-evident.

You nearly hated him for that knowing look.  

“You wanted him jealous. What else was I to do to grant you your wish?”

You didn’t utter a word of apology. He didn’t expect any, you supposed, seeing how he already turned away from you, seemingly distracted by some tiny motion in the depth of the woods.  

And yet you’d barely moved to leave, before he spoke again, his voice lower than you could expect it.

“Y/N, why me?”

The question was the only one you could answer without much thinking.

“Because you wouldn’t care.”

A short sound came out of the Warden’s lips, a laugh he swallowed almost immediately, offensive with its bitterness.

“Next time you come for someone’s jealousy…,” he paused just to go on with an effort one long moment after, “Bear in mind that I can offer mine.”

Choose a Wip

I was challenged by @heilith , probably as a nudge to get back into writing.

Rules: Make a poll listing the tasks you need to work on for your project/WIP. Votes determine the order things get done!

I think I know how this will turn out, but I'm curious to see if my predictions pan out. These are all stories that I've actually started in some way, rather than vague ideas that are still in my head. (I should probably do a poll about the vague ideas some day too)

Last week I was snorkelling and stumbled across a very curious fish I hadn't seen before. I wanted to take a better look at it and I guess I swam an inch too close, because the fish decided to either intimidate me or camouflage itself and suddenly changed colour from dull brown to exactly what my favourite kindergarten panties looked like - white with brown polka dots (even the dots were the right size). Gosh, the memory was so vivid I snorted out my snorkel. :D

Hahaha you know, some people wear clothes with the leopard pattern and your panties had a tropical fish pattern so you were clearly fashionable at that time, I envy you so much, I still struggle with fashion 🤣

I wonder if the fish knows that its panty-patterned, though... 🤣
