Y/N stirred, slowly returning from some place far away, a marvelous place that was filled with dreams, hopes and hidden desires. A place where anything was possible, a safe haven of sorts that granted one the possibility of working through whatever it was that was weighing one down. Y/N began stretching out her arms as the morning sun lazily licked her skin, already warming it up with the promise of it being another beautiful day; when aside from the accustomed cotton covers, she felt something else touch the skin on her arms. The previously sleeping beauty opened her eyes and turned her head to see what it was that her fingers had stumbled upon. A rose petal. As Y/N slowly sat up and furrowed her brow at the unexpected guest in her bed, something caught the corner of her eye, making the maiden abandon her inspection of the single petal and rather take in the view of her entire bed being covered in rose petals of various colors and shades. A soft gasp escaped her lips before they curled upwards into a bright and somewhat unbelieving smile, her hands moving to cover her mouth while her eyes glided over the various red, pink, and white toned petals. They were everywhere, on her bed, on the floor of her chambers, on her bedside table and even on the mantelpiece. A playful giggle emitted from her lips at this wonderful, if not entirely unexpected surprise. Boromir had truly outdone himself this time, there was no doubt about it.

As soon as Y/N deemed herself presentable enough to be seen outside her shared chambers, she left her rooms in a hurry to go seek out her beloved. There was only one place she imagined Boromir would be at this hour on a Friday morn. Her quick steps soon broke into a run as she rushed down the corridors, followed by the many staircases which were followed by more corridors, passing by the throne room, the outer halls and out through the main doors. Y/N made it to the stables in the nick of time just as Boromir was about to climb his horse and head out for patrol, a score or so of foot soldiers waiting patiently nearby for their captain to join them before heading out to inspect the boarders of Osgiliath.

Boromir must have heard her hurried steps, his frame slowly turning towards the direction of her coming. His expression seemed somewhat mildly surprised, yet his eyes were telling a different tale entirely. The man obviously knew what he had done, that much was certain. What he couldn’t have known and predicted, was Y/N’s reaction to his sweet and romantic gesture. He looked like he was biting back a grin, making his lips twitch and tremble as he slowly shook his head at the young maiden approaching him with all haste.

Y/N’s fingers released the folds of her skirts they had previously gripped and opened her arms just in time to throw them around Boromir’s neck. A soft chuckle came from deep within him, making his chest rumble as he wrapped his arms around his wife to be and pulled her into an embrace. The said embrace did not last long, for Y/N had been so deeply touched by his gesture, that she pulled away only far enough to be able to greet his lips with hers. There was no sign of any form for hesitation when his lips parted and welcomed the sweetness that was her mouth. Neither of them cared for the waiting soldiers, nor that he would be delayed in performing his duties as captain of the guard, nor that the whole courtyard would bear witness to their intimate moment despite them not being wed yet. Y/N moved her hands to cup his bearded face, her thumbs stroking the stubby hairs on his cheeks before her fingers moved on and ventured into his hair.

A moment passed before Y/N broke their kiss in a desperate need to come up for some air, both of them breathing heavier than they would have preferred considering they were out in public for anyone to see. Boromir lifted his right hand, his fingers tracing the line of her jaw before lightly touching the skin on her cheeks.

“I take it you have enjoyed your morning,” his voice was soft yet still somewhat breathless.

“I have, it was almost like waking up in a field that’s covered in flowers for as far as the eye can see,” Y/N murmured as she leaned her forehead against his.

“You’ve always talked about your fondness for roses, so I thought to myself, why not gift her with a sea of petals, as soft and delicate as yourself, my lady,” he mused as his fingers continued to admire the beauty before him.

“I imagine that Gondor as of today, has a major shortage of roses,” Y/N teased him lightly which prompted Boromir to give a hearty laugh.

“I can assure you, my love, there are plenty of roses left to brighten and grace all your days,” he answered with a reassuring smile.

“In that case, may I suggest you don’t tarry long on your patrol?” Y/N asked as her lips curled upwards into a suggestive smirk. She watched as desire took hold of his features, his eyes darkening some at the prospect of them consummating their marriage before their wedding night.

“I will destroy anyone foolish enough to delay my return to you, my beloved,” he whispered huskily as he drew her in for another kiss. “You have my word,” he breathed out against her mouth before pulling back. Boromir bid Y/N his farewell by pressing his mouth to her forehead, the stubs of his beard tickling the area between her eyes making her wrinkle her nose ever so slightly.

Y/N watched as her beloved mounted his horse and offered her a gentle nod of his head before turning the animal around to head off. As distance slowly swallowed him along with the company in his command, Y/N found herself longing for him and his touch already, praying that he would return to her sooner rather than later. Yet she had sworn long before today that she would wait for him no matter how long it took; she would always wait for her beloved Boromir.
