Just curious.

What got you into Monkey Wrench?

For me it was a combination of just stumbling across it on YouTube and learning about it from Gooseworx (since she’s the voice of Us in episode 3) via her tumblr. Also TV tropes.

I was hooked on it instantly.

I vaguely remember stumbling across earlier versions of shrike and Beebs on Zeurel’s Newgrounds page ages ago too. But only just.

Ronnie showed it to me last year! I think not long after ep2 came out

I already knew about Zeurel from his animations on Tomska's channel like Mr. Cat, Chaos Relay, and that weird... Ambulance informercial video. His style is very recognizable. I never looked into him and his original stuff until now tho! And I'm so mad that I didn't lol

Episode 1 got me interested, and I really liked how it was compositioned and how it just. Lets you go into the world for yourself. Typically indie shows are a bit awkward with their dialogue and their exposition, which I didn't mind until I got into MW and it felt so much more organic. It has juuust the right amount of exposition, and everything else you have to guess from context. Actually having to listen and rewatch the episodes to understand things? No wayy

Another important point: THE CHARACTER DESIGNS. The pilot has such a variety of fun character designs! When I saw Tyneen for the first time I fucking 💥. I must admit though. I knew that when Shrike and Beebs showed up on Kara's screen it was "Oh. These two losers are the protagonists that's fun" but honestly I literally cared more about everyone else BUT THEM 😭 I only started really, truly caring about them in episode 2 when the plot was less busy and they could breathe and interact, just the two of them, and understood WHY they were the protagonists

AND THEN episode 3 is what REALLY hooked me in. Ep2 made me follow Zeurel and the progress of 3, and when that came out I loved it so much. We've passed the introduction stage with the cats and now we know who everyone is, and we can get to the story with more Terran lore and the Cataclysm. And of course. Who can forget. The tragic mushrooms. I caught myself tearing up before thinking "Wait this is Monkey Wrench why am I crying"

There's something really special about this show that made me decide to support its production, even if it's a small amount, now that I can

I have never see it tbh! I should probably watch it at some point, I have only ever seen clips of it. My childhood best friend's little brother tried to make me watch it and other things, when he was a kid, and I would just run, because if I blinked he would throw a lego at me. ur so right, I've usually come away from interviews feeling less interested in the job, even the apprenticeship I was trying for I realized maybe I wasn't as dedicated to it as I could've been. so this is all for the best. I'm not necessarily ✨ thrilled ✨ about this specific job but it's conveniently located, I'm fine with the hours, I know the people are generally nice, and it's something I can handle without giving up so much of myself. so I don't mind :]

The basis for the au is like. everything starts off roughly the same pre-game (olly’s made, is fucking pissed off @ his creator, makes Liv & the legion) except he basically creates the Legion to be his own family because he doesnt really consider the Craftsman to be his dad (he’s emo <3), and the Legion just see these two kids and are like “. well shit guess we’re adopting these two now” (Tape is their collective dad and Olives REAAAAALLY looks up to him and Olly)

Anyways, the game events happen (I hc that the Legion’s house was a little outside of Toad Town so it wasn’t hard for Olly and Liv to sneak out and for Olly to theoretically usurp the princess’ power and basically wreck the whole thing <3), but this time instead of Olives encouraging violence against the Legion she basically almost begs Mario to not hurt any of them because they’re family, and Mario, being the understanding person he is, doesn’t and basically the entire game is now just Mario kind of actually befriending the entire Legion instead of defeating them !!! Any beef they have isn’t serious and it’s more like,,,Hole Punch being mad he got out-danced or something goofy like that.

I’m not gonna spill ALL the beans right away, but there’s the jist of it lol! its supposed to sorta segway into a general Slice of Life AU for the Legion + Origami Siblings as a family, since I don’t actually see a lot of people capitalising on that idea and I wanna do it >:]

Also, the whole Bobby thing? Completely scrapped. He doesn’t die, and neither does Olly, and there’s no dramatic sacrifice that erases people from existence. When I say “Nobody Dies”, I MEAN IT /lh
