Honestly even if you don't care about the homoeroticism or the actual love triangle, I still recommend challengers for the soundtrack, like that shit goes HARD and for the way they recorded the matches at some point even THE BALL became the camera. Also 10/10 ad for CT:OS, I finished watching that and I immediately wanted to replay the game.

ever since i got into berserk, there's this certain thing that keeps bothering my mind.

casca seemed very aware of what was actually happening between griffith and guts since the very beginning. she was even showing signals of jealously while she was having a conversation with guts, mentioning that griffith never acted that way with anyone else. also, there's that moment where she starts to say something about his relationship with guts and doesn't finish, (which is filled with romantic implications.) maybe she "misunderstood" griffith's feelings because of charlotte, sure, but it's still weird.

i mean, when guts returned after that year, rickert literally said that griffith was depressed because of him. it was obvious at this point and there was no room for any doubts about his feelings for guts. casca was also blaming him for what happened to griffith and despite all that, she still decided to throw herself in guts' arms? i'm not a casca hater or anything, i just can't understand her actions at all. everything looks very wrong to me.

i'd like to know your thoughts about this! (again, hehe.) ♡

There's a lot I hate about the Guts/Casca sex scene lol, but I don't think Casca fucking Guts while knowing Griffith loves him is an issue. For one thing, Griffith might be dead, which she says before they bone. She's tired of making decisions based on a dude she hasn't seen in a year and who might be dead by now. For another thing, even if she does make the connection that Griffith's love = he wants an actual romantic relationship with Guts, there's no indication that she believes Guts isn't straight and reciprocates those feelings, or that Griffith's love for Guts could even go anywhere if Guts' did reciprocate. He had a dream and a princess to marry, and now they have no idea what his situation will be if they find him alive.

Griffith and Guts ending up together romantically probably isn't a realistic possibility in Casca's mind, even if she is jealous of Griffith's nebulous feelings for Guts.

And finally, even if it was a distinct likelihood that they're both physically attracted to each other and willing to act on it, why should Casca have to step aside when Guts is also willing to hook up with her here and now? Guts has a free choice too, and he's the one who kissed her first, so he's choosing her over the potential of Griffith.

Like, I know I prefer griffguts lol, but I don't blame Casca for wanting something for herself here. She just spent a year maintaining the Hawks for Griffith's sake and losing her mind over it, I'm kind of happy for her that she decides to do something for herself, even if I think it's misguided, I don't enjoy it, and a lot of the writing around it is messy. Like, taking Casca's desire for Guts and suicide attempt at face value rather than criticizing it to hell and back as I'm wont to do lol, I think Casca fucking Guts rather than going 'I can't because Griffith is into him' was the better option for her.

Also, at the end of the day, the most accurate answer is just that the homoeroticism is still subtext and therefore you can't assume that Casca makes the connection between Griffith's love and Griffith's sexual desire, and judge her actions based on that, imo. Textually she's jealous of Griffith's feelings, but those are ambiguous, and it could be the intensity, rather than the nature of those feelings, that she's jealous of. Like yeah I think the homoerotic element is incredibly obvious, but if it's meant to factor in wrt how other characters behave and how we perceive their choices, then it needs to be textual.

So number one is extremely unsurprisingly going to be 616. They're the ogs and absolutely no one does it like them. lewis hamilton :3 i knew of his existence before i got into f1 because of a feature he did with time magazine so i think i always felt a bit of loyalty to him? also because he advocates for causes i'm passionate about. he's still one of my favorites and i have a lot more context and knowledge about him/his career now!

it's a four-way tie between max, charles, oscar, and lewis. i never said i could choose for shit 🤷

Uuiuuhhhfffffff todays (technically yesterdays but that was my birthday and we went on a short trip) episode of Last Man I have a lot of thoughts.

First of all the most obvious one: the timing of this one’s topic. A 立てこもり事件？？？we just had that?? IN REAL LIFE???? (they had a message at the very end saying they’re sorry for the victims of that one). Weird timing. Very very very weird timing, too close. But not the writers fault I guess.

Moving on: started out super sad, ended bittersweet. I like the three Godo brothers a lot (one is a nephew I guess but whatever). I also like Oizumi Yos acting I actually think it’s pretty good!!

Story: needs *some* suspension of disbelief but not quite as much as the other episodes. All in all a good one.

Homoeroticism: oh boy. quite a lot. Godo holding Minamis hand to show him the map? Them being in contact constantly and being so worried about the other? And especially the end, drinking wine on Minamis balcony at night, playing Shogi, of which Godo bought a set for blind people specifically hello?????

And then Fukuyama making fun of Oizumi making fun of Fukuyama lol. Love these two.

Okay so I'm on my Arktos brainrot bullshit right now and I need to talk to someone else about it.

This scene is literally my favorite, right alongside his musical number, because of how wonderfully animated he is here! As someone who loves animated villains, the animators clearly had fun with him being a sassy yet suave bad guy. From his evil laughter to the way he leans while sitting in his throne to how he delicately caresses Lily's hair...

It really reminds me of Bowser lifting Luigi's chin up in the Mario movie, minus the (fan) implications of romance and homoeroticism.

Also, I have to admit that I'm currently in-between the realms of "hehe animation go brrrrr" and "OH NO HE'S HOT!"

On top of all of this, Arktos having such a deliciously villainous manner in gestures and body language is so addictive to me personally. I love it when evil characters do shit like this, and a part of it is because of how villains in modern films (especially Disney - fuck Wish) have changed drastically. Villains used to be these despicable, envious, and very-theater-kid-like characters, fueled by a dastardly motive to rise above everyone else. Now, we barely even have "villains", either they're plot twists or just people spreading trauma because of their past. Because of the lack of genuinely good, classic villains, Arktos was an absolute gold mine!

Lamo I am glad to share this brainrot because honestly, Arktos immediately cemented himself in the halls of my favorite villains as I learned about him.

The idea of him just being so evil that he turns on his own daughter to accomplish his goals of eradicating every dragon is so perfectly classic mustache-twirling villainy. (I haven't gotten around to watching the movie, however so I'm going off impressions from the clips I've watched)

I definitely agree with how exquisitely animated he is. The people who worked on him definitely understood the assignment. With such dramatic gestures and personal space defying action makes me think Arktos would definitely be a Tumblr sexyman in an alternate timeline.

And I'm not just saying that because I think he's an ice cold dreamboat

The only character in recent memory that's really like this is Jack Horner in Puss in Boots 2, as well as Bowser to a lesser extent as he's already established as that kind of villain. It really gives me hope that the tying-ladies-to-train-tracks villain is on it's way in again. Not just because they're just so much fun to watch, but because they'll make more complicated villains feel special instead of just getting characters like Hans (not that he's really all that complicated)

Arktos is definitely a love letter to all the deliciously evil jerks out there. Here's to getting more!
