Laura Percy-Bruce prided herself on being a strong, independent, capable women, very few things scared her. Everything went as planned in her live.

And then Lenny ran off to LA, and everything was falling apart and god maybe she needed to find her Aunt Shirley but Shirley couldn’t fix this could she?

Right now tho she was shaking.

The door. The Door. She had to get out of thirty rock and she was never coming back.

She loved this job but she was scared, she couldn’t come back here.

She made it successfully to the elevator when she heard someone yell out.

“Laura?Laura!”

“ Bullshit, you’re too good at this.” He paused realization dawning on his face ” Laura, Laura did, George… did he say something? Do something?”

“ No Gordon No I just” she can’t breathe” God Gordon fine yes, George kissed me, I hit him, I can’t I can’t come back”

“ Laura you mean more to this show, more to me, than George does. Than George ever will. “ She hates to see him pleading, but she can’t give in.

“ Gordon there will be a hundred more George Toledos, I will never escape them. At least if I leave this job” she really considered it” I hold more power over them in the clubs.”

“ Laura, I will fight every single one of those men if you let me, Hedy and I are getting a divorce just stay and we’ll work it all out”

The pause went on just long enough she started to get uncomfortable.

“ you know I can’t, I’m not strong enough I- I have to go back to him.”

His face contorts into a very unreadable expression.

“ Laura you know you can’t, you told me yourself what he’s gotten into, you told me “

“ I told you a lot of things Gordon. I’m sorry. I can’t stay here I don’t belong”

“ Mr. Ford consider this my formal resignation, my regrets. “

And she turned to leave, pushing past him without a care in the world.

Out in the cold nigh she began to cry

Lenny was back in New York and he was killing.

Standing aside the stage watching him from afar Laura felt happy, or maybe not happy but content.

Suddenly she heard a commotion by the door.

“ no no sir you don’t understand I’m Hedy Ford, my husband is on the Number one TV show in the country and I need to speak to Mrs Percy….. please you just understand we don’t have cash to pay the cover because we just wanna see Laura and leave. “

She could see Hedy know, but suddenly someone behind her pushed through.

“ to hell with this I can literally see her. LAURA. LAURA. “

“ Carr??” Laura shouted back with a start, with a look to her left she noticed lenny staring awkwardly at her, she nodded on to him and made her way to the door.

“ Lonnie it’s cool I know them” she noded to the bouncer

“Hedy. Mike. To what do I owe the pleasure”

Hedy glared at Mike in a way that told her they had decided ahead of time that she was doing the talking.

“ Laura the show wants you back.”

She want in the Defense.

“ Hedy I’m sorry I can’t.”

“ because of Toledo right? Screw that honey. You can not let a man of that low of human compassion and capability ruin you like this. That’s not the women you are. and the truth is by running away you are letting him win. I’m sorry to have to say that but. Laura they show was better with you working on it, it needs you. “

“ Hedy that’s sweet but I can’t be within 30 feet of him without being terrified I just can’t I-“

“ Laura.” Mike cut in” Gordon found out George was holding up his contract, that on top of what happened with you, he’s not gonna have a job tommorow.”

She sighed “ Mike that’s great for progress but I can’t, I just can’t do this”

He got this earnest look in his eyes, “Laura, in twenty four hours it is very likely I will be producing the Gordon ford show and I can’t do that shit alone, there is no one I would rather have in my talent manager chair, with my talent board, then you. If you won’t fo it for the show, or for Gordon, do it for me, your friend and professional partner to coke back”

“ Mike there is no for Gordon I” I glance worriedly at Hedy this got awkward fast.

“ Laura I do not care what you and Gordon are getting up to. We’re getting a divorce. The deal always was we’d get married to make our parents happy but if he found someone he wanted to publicly be with that we’d get divorced, and that happened. “

She stopped and thought for a second, her breathing overly defined. She looked over and Lenny was walking toward the group

And it was odd to her to discover she didn’t feel how she did when Gordon walked toward her. she wasn’t thrilled to see him, there was no light.

“ hey Doll, what’s going on” Lenny smirked.

“ Lenny I-“ was she really doing this” I’m sorry I can’t do this any longer. I’m not happy with any of this. Professionally or Personally, this isn’t going to work out and I can’t keep forcing it”

She can see Carr smirk out of this corner of my eye.

“ Laura baby what are you taking about, you know I can’t do this alone honey” Lenny’s eyes are so wide.

Silence stretches on as she looks at the man who saved her.

“ I’m sorry Lenny, it’s all over”

She’s saving herself this time,

She nods at Mike and follows him and Hedy out of the bar.

When she arrived to 30 Rock she relived that they said George was getting canned tommorow, he’s still here.

As if sensing her sudden anxiety Hedy put her hand on my arm.

“ you aren’t alone Laura.”

When we made it to the set she makes it a point to stand between Hedy and Mike and when she catches Toledos eye, her gaze holds firm.

Eventually we go to commercial break and Gordon sees me. He gets out of his chair and crosses the room and simply hugs me, and she holds him back just as tight.

“ Laura I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I should’ve done something more but I”

“ Gordon.”She cuts him off “ it’s okay. I’m okay.” Even more now, she chooses not to add.

He pulls away and holds her by the shoulders, “ I I have to go back on air but, don’t run away? I still owe you a drink” he smirks

“ you might owe me a lot more than that Gordy”

He smiles and as he walks back to his seat

“ George. You’re fired. “

( hello everyone! This is my first time writing and I know it’s an OC no one has any idea who is but I promise with time more will make sense lol. This is the first time I’ve published anything I’ve written so be kind!! I couldn’t decide which point of view to use so I stuck with third person but let me know if that’s weird?? I hope you enjoy! Oh god, they opened with the Lenny stand when he’s spiralling and my heart hurts 💔 Luke absolutely nailed it however and needs another Emmy like, now.

It’s great to see Susie and Lenny interact, especially soft and caring Susie 🥺 Oh how I’d have loved to see Susie manage him 😩 And Midge hiding chainsmoking backstage because she can’t bare to see him that way. 😩💔

Poor Susie heartbroken over Hedy. Some fantastic stuff from Alex this episode, I so hope she gets an Emmy too for s5 because it’s so deserved.

You know what’s good about TMMM ending? I don’t have to tolerate Gordon Ford ever again - except maybe in fic where he can either be treated as he should or made into a better character lol.

Midge’s Gordon Ford victory dance was so cute 😄

Moise and Shirley are always great and the shower thing was sweet. 😆

You know what’s the other good thing about TMMM? No more Joel and ASP’s weird attempt at redeeming his character. 😒 I mean “You are amazing” just because he finally does the bare minimum to finally accept being used in her act? Ugh.

Really having trouble seeing how Midge being on the Gordon Ford Show is super exciting? I think the season long build up has made me not care. Proud Abe however is wonderful. 🥹

Which version is your favourite?

Personal blurb: I've been driving from one side of the U.S. to the other, and I woke up yesterday morning with this stuck in my head; it felt only fitting. I kept driving and as it turns out: it can take an entire day (possibly more, depending on where you're going) to drive through Texas, so I missed yesterday's song. Oh well. The joys of doing something I love for the sake of loving it is that there's no constraint to how it happens.

I love the version from the movie, because it feels so appropriately mournful. The laments of someone who doesn't know how to be anything but forward. I empathise with the desire for freedom. There is this space where I am on a train, or in the airport waiting for a flight, and there is nothing I can do but be where I am. It is one of my favourite places in the world, that limbo. On trains especially, where I get to watch the world pass me by; I am a part of it and yet it is so much more than I am, and equal to what I am. We are worlds.

I think often about how we are always a spectrum. That we can simultaneously want to be free and float from world to world, and long for a sense of home and security. And what I am is a balance, that swings day to day. Just like everything else, no? Hypocrisy is the representation of that, I think. We're not actually hypocritical; we're just everything, all at once.

Susie and Midge went to a diner a bit away from their usual one. Unfortunately, they had to go out discreetly, so it was necessary. It wasn’t far from that lesbian bar Midge had once taken Susie to. Midge wasn’t exactly thrilled that this was apparently somewhere Susie had gone to with Hedy, but she supposed their options were limited.

Midge found herself unusually nervous. It wasn’t like she hadn’t been on a date before. And she knew Susie. They had spent a lot of time together. But this felt different somehow. It was pretty easy to act confident on a date with a guy. They had practically always fawned over her. But this felt like a different territory for some reason. Susie definitely wasn’t the type to fawn over someone after all.

It wasn’t long after they ordered that the waitress set out a big bowl of ice cream in between them.

“The hell is this?” Susie asked.

“It’s ice cream,” Midge said with a smile.

Susie gave her a deadpan look.

“I know it’s freakin’ ice cream, Midge. That’s why we came here. I didn’t expect us to be sharing though. That’s such a corny date type of thing to do.”

Midge frowned slightly.

“Is that okay? I wasn’t sure if you wanted us to be more discreet-“

“Nah, it’s fine,” Susie said. “We did pick this place so we could have a date.”

Susie picked up one of the spoons and scooped a bite into her mouth.

“Of course it’s chocolate,” She muffled.

“Is that-“

“Yeah, it’s fine. You usually don’t ask me this much if the things you do are alright. You’re not sick, are you?” Susie asked.

Midge huffed and scooped a bite from her side as well.

“I mean, it is a date, Susie. I want to make sure you’re having a good time.”

Susie set her spoon down and crossed her arms.

“Yeah, and I wouldn’t expect you to act nicer than usual while on one with me. I know who I’m going out with, Midge. Just be yourself.”

Midge huffed.

“I am nice,” She said a bit petulantly.

Susie rolled her eyes.

“Yeah, I’m not saying you’re not. But you’re usually not this concerned about my grumping. You know who you’re going out with, right?” She asked.

Midge sighed. “Yes, I do. You’re right.”

Susie hmmed and scooped another bite.

“I mean, if this isn’t what you’re up for-“

“No, it’s not that,” Midge said and then winced at interrupting her.

“Sorry.”

Susie sighed.

“Seriously, stop. You’re fine.”

Midge nodded.

“Right, yes.”

Midge twirled her spoon against the bowl, making little tink sounds.

“I hope you know I’m not stopping for you,” Susie said. “I don’t care if we’re sharing, I will eat this whole thing myself if given the chance to.”

Midge giggled at that.

“I should have expected as much.”

Susie smirked at her as she took another bite. Midge narrowed her eyes at Susie with a smile. Suddenly, she felt a bit playful. Taken by a fit of whimsy, Midge got a small bit of icecream at the tip of her spoon and dabbed it onto Susie’s nose.

Susie blinked and drew her head back.

“The hell?” Susie exclaimed. Midge covered her mouth and giggled.

“You got a little something right here,” Midge said, pointing at her own nose.

Susie rolled her eyes.

“Har har. Always miss comedian over here. But now I’m sticky.”

“It’s icecream, Susie. You were always bound to get sticky.”

Susie waved to her nose.

“Not here!”

“Clearly you haven’t seen my kids eat icecream then,” Midge said.

Susie grimaced at that.

“Do we have to mention your sticky kids on our date?”

“I mean, I am a mom, Susie. My kids are bound to come up at some point. They’re a part of my life.”

“Right right. Yeah, we have talked about that before.”

“Yes, we have.”

“Well anyways, I need to get this stickiness off my nose, now. How the hell did we not ask for extra napkins? You’re usually the one concerned with cleanliness over here,” Susie said.

“Oh, but that would be a waste of perfectly good ice cream,” Midge said, already feeling a bit impish.

“Well then you should have thought of that before you smushed some onto my nose!” Susie exclaimed.

“I have another idea on how to get that off without wasting any,” Midge said coyly.

Susie blinked at her and narrowed her eyes.

“…yeah?” She asked.

Midge looked around to make sure no one was in the vicinity. Then she stood up and walked around their little table to Susie’s side.

“W-what are you doing?” Susie asked. She looked at her a bit nervously. So Midge paused.

“I was gonna help you get that ice cream off. If that’s ok?” Midge puckered her lips briefly. She looked down at Susie’s nose and then back to her eyes to try and hint to Susie what she was thinking.

Susie gulped.

“Uh, o-okay,” Susie got out, sounding a bit choked. Midge watched her for a moment before smiling a little. The nerves seemed a bit different. She didn’t see this side of Susie very much.

Midge got closer to Susie who was still sitting. She made sure to watch that Susie wasn’t pulling away as nonverbal permission. Then Midge slid into Susie’s lap, facing her. Susie sucked in a breath, eyes wide. She was locked on Midge in front of her though.

Midge smiled at her and leaned forward. She touched her lips to Susie’s nose and moved them to kiss the ice cream off. Midge had never seen Susie so still before. Midge leaned away and gave Susie another coy smile.

“There!” Midge cheered.

Susie was still staring at her. Oh, the poor thing.

Midge giggled again and then booped Susie on the nose. Susie blinked and wrinkled her nose.

Midge shook her head.

“You’re too cute Susie!” Midge got up and went back to her side of the table. Midge thought she saw Susie’s hands twitch forward as though to hold her there, but didn’t say anything about it.

“…I don’t think cute is a term I’ve ever heard to describe me before,” Susie finally managed to get out. Susie definitely looked like she was still flustered.

“Heh, really?”

“I guess that’s just a you thing to say, Midge,” Susie said.

“Hmm, you think I’m the only one whose thought you were cute?” Midge asked.

Susie shrugged.

“I dunno, but it’s not something I usually hear.”

“Well, it’s true,” Midge said.

Susie looked away and went back to eating the ice cream.

“You’ll have to get used to compliments when you’re with me,” Midge said.

“Really?” Susie asked.

“Yes, really. Do you know how many I’ve had to hold back because of your insistence on a professional relationship?”

“No, I didn’t. Are you usually the type to give compliments a lot?”

“At times yes, but not always. There’s something about you that makes me feel like you need to hear them. Even if you’re not always the warm and fuzziest person from the outside.”

“Do you always lay it on this thick while on dates?” Susie asked.

Midge shrugged.

“Guys don’t always want to hear the kind of compliments I have to say. I give out plenty to my gal friends. But yeah, you’re different.”

“I should hope so if we’re on a date,” Susie muttered, stabbing at another scoop. They really were going through that dessert faster than Midge expected. Given the size. It was pretty good though.

Midge got another scoop and held it out in front of Susie. Susie looked down at it and raised an eyebrow at Midge.

“Wha-“

When Susie opened her mouth Midge pushed the scoop in.

“Mmm!”

When Susie got the ice cream off the spoon Midge pulled the spoon back and smiled at her. Susie pouted.

“You’re lucky you didn’t give me brain freeze. What was that?”

“Just another coupley thing,” Midge hummed.

Susie huffed.

“We have two spoons. And you don’t need to feed me.”

“Does that gross you out?” Midge asked.

“…no,” Susie said. Leaving it unsaid that sharing a spoon wouldn’t be much different from what is shared while kissing.

“Oh, you got a little,” Midge pointed to her own lips. Some chocolate smeared on Susie’s. Susie held up a hand, to keep Midge from pulling the same maneuver as kissing the ice cream off earlier. Then Susie used her other hand to wipe off her mouth with the napkin she did have. Midge supposed that kissing on the lips would be a bit much for being in public still.

Finishing the rest of the ice cream went by a bit less eventful, but not in a bad way. They continued to chatter, some of it like usual. But their banter felt a bit flirtier now, if in subtle ways.

After they finished the ice cream, both spoons clinked onto the bowl.

“So, how would you say this place was for us to go?” Midge asked.

Susie hmmed.

“I mean, I already knew it was good. I think next time I’ll want us to be somewhere with more privacy,” Susie said.

Midge raised her eyebrows with a smile. “Ohh?” Midge asked.

Susie didn’t look at her but she smiled back,

“Yeah.”

The waitress came by.

“How was everything?” She asked.

“Really good,” The pair agreed.

The waitress nodded with a smile.

“Good! Now, will that be one check or separate?” She asked.

“Oh, I got it!” Midge and Susie both said at the same time. They paused and then both looked at each other.

“…together?” Midge asked. She didn’t want this to end in an argument. Susie pursed her lips for a moment, as though to argue. But then relented.

“Yeah, okay.” Susie agreed.

The waitress nodded,

“I’ll be right over with your checks then,” She said before walking away.

All in all, Midge thought it was not a bad first date.

Excuse me! Out of curiosity, what's heddys deal with gender now? Since you seem to headcanon lamarr as using she/her, I was curious about the gender aspect of it all

Ah, thanks for asking! Heddy's sense of identity is complicated in many ways, and gender is just one of them. While they do form a person together with a unique identity as Heddy, Gordon and Lamarr still consider themselves individuals with distinct gender identities.

Heddy: Being the spot where two individuals become one is a defining part of Heddy's identity, so the neutrality and plural nature of being called "they" really speaks to them. However, both sides also have no problem with using masculine identifiers, so they/he is the best fit. They are nonbinary and that's about as specific as it gets.

Gordon/Rangoon: Before becoming part of Heddy, Gordon solely used he/him but was curious about opening up his options. Taking up the public identity of "Dr. Rangoon" as the human half of Heddy gave them the chance to reinvent himself, so he decided that it was as good a time as any to start using he/they. In terms of labels, he identifies as a man.

Lamarr: When Kleiner named his headcrab after Hedy Lamarr, he went with her namesake's pronouns, doubting the creature would have an opinion on it. Upon gaining sentience and understanding what gender was, Lamarr felt best just going with what she'd been given. The pronouns that best describe Lamarr are she/her, but she accepts most options, including he/him and it/its.

In the wild, headcrabs don't do gender. A scientist could determine a headcrab's biological sex, but trying to sort them into a binary would be misleading-- it's like how separating bees into male and female doesn't tell as much as separating them into queen, worker, and drone. Lamarr's not a queen bee. She is still queen of our hearts. She has also stolen all of the she/her power, which is why Gordon isn't allowed to use any of it as Heddy.

What did you think of the final episode of Mrs Maisel? My expectations were in the gutter due to being absolutely destroyed and demoralized after what ASP did to the Gilmore girls in Year in the Life, so I must say I was actually pleasantly surprised! I knew they weren’t going to give us a happy present day or future with MidgeLenny so I thought the flashback to the Chinese restaurant was nice.

hiiiiii, sorry for the delay, i needed all night to mentally prepare myself to answer this ask <3 i feel like there is no short answer, so i'll probably have to give a long one. my deepest apologies...

so. to be totally honest, i think the finale was about as good as it could be, given the structure of the season up to that point. do i wish they'd chosen to tell the story in real time, not using flashes forward to negate tension, solve problems off-screen, and shortcut emotionally impactful moments? yeah. yeah, i do.

i would have loved to see midge and susie fall out and actually make up in real time; that didn't need to happen in the future/off screen. that should've been the driving arc and the emotional core of the season.

i would have loved to see lenny's supreme court case and the start of his real decline—particularly to contrast it against midge's blossoming career, showing that while they care for each other fuck it, love each other deeply, they are also on paths that must inevitably diverge.

i would have loved for j*el not to be there at all, but that's because i am petty.

i would have loved mei to randomly show up for no narrative reason, because i love stephanie hsu.

i would have loved loved loved to see lenny's 'to is a preposition, come is a verb' bit immortalized on the show, and i will quite literally never forgive them for not including it. i deserve to hear luke kirby singing, "don't come in me, don't come in me, don't come in me me me me me..."

i would have loved to see midge squaring up with the actual consequences of her parenting, maybe trying to restore her relationship with her kids, if we had to do the time jumps. she could even fail! (i mean, i know she made a joke about forgetting their names in the final episode, but i don't think that means they should have been forgotten by the narrative.)

i would have loved to see susie actually with someone, maybe reunited with hedy—or they could have set up a love interest over the course of the season.

i would have loved to see midge and lenny ride off into the sunset, because i am a clown who doesn't care about historical accuracy. (jk, i care about it a lot. you should see the footnotes for the fic i'm writing.) at the very least, we should have seen her reaction to lenny's posthumous pardon.

anyway, i would have loved a lot of things.

as it is, when the finale came to an end, i literally out loud said, "oh. that was the end." gotta love the enthusiasm.

at least it didn't make a whole bunch of things demonstrably worse, which... considering AYITL, i suppose we should be grateful for.

the chinese food scene was lovely and sweet from start to finish. the whole gordon ford hijacking was good, and i was touched at susie's emotional reaction to seeing midge take the mic. i was delighted by how much effort midge put into making sure her mom got the message to come see her perform. i loved abe's enthusiasm about his daughter's success and i loved him reaching to touch her cheek. the return of imogene's beret was good, if i didn't hallucinate that bit.

all said, the finale had its moments, and i enjoyed them when they came. i'm just bummed it was built on, in my opinion, the shaky framework that is the entire rest of the season.
