Bc my dumbass somehow managed to reach the 30 tag limit (I didn't even KNOW that was a thing until now) I'm putting my response here(but keeping the tags I already put bc I am too lazy to go and delete them bc I'm on mobile)
SO. CURRENT ICON RN IS HEATWAVE.
He TECHNICALLY doesn't wear clothes but if you count him being swapped into Kade's body in that fucking fever dream of a body swap episode, I'd have to wear bunker/turnout gear. I went on a whole tangent about that in the tags and I'm too fucking tired to regurgitate the information again.
I may or may not survive having to wear the minimum of the turnout/bunker coat and pants + helmet
But full turnout/bunker gear? I'm most likely dead if my body doesn't adjust to all the weight fast enough
On the OTHER HAND THOUGH, with Heatwave being a giant fucking robot that transforms into a damn firetruck, rescue boat, and a fucking dinosaur (forgor what dinosaur specifically but it's the fucking huge and really long necked one), he doesn't wear clothes, like at all. He fuckin nAKEY
Technically yes I could survive this because I'm not being weighed down by heavy gear. But there's no way in HELL am I going to be running around fucking NAKED. ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I'd rather be weighed down by heavy ass gear that firefighters wear than be a naked creature
In short, either way, I'm fucked
You have to wear the same clothes your current icon wears every day for the rest of your life! How screwed are you?

because I love to cook the youtube algorithm pushes me a lot of food porn videos which I guess are adjacent. But over time, something about them feels cruel to me. The influencers are living in an alternate universe. 'Surf n' turf fried rice?' 40 lbs of it for a tailgate?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I live in the USA, and the absolute cheapest online price for snow crab legs I could find was $10 a lb and I have no idea if the product's any good quality. As of November 2024, the wholesale prices before markup were over $8 a lb. I haven't seen them in my grocery store for under $14 a lb. Online, 10 lb cases of crab like he's carrying there go for almost always over $100. Sometimes over $200. There was a 2018-2019 population collapse due to a marine heatwave that knocked out over 10 billion crabs.
The stated price of a beef tenderloin varies wildly depending on where I look. I can find a USDA report that states that the retail cost of beef tenderloin in my area in 2024 was around $8-$11 per lb but I have NEVER seen it for under $15 a lb on sale in the store, at least recently. Grass-fed beef costs a lot more. Maybe I am not looking hard enough, and there ARE definitely ways to get meat cheaper, like buying a cow share. But like... do you get what I am saying? That meat fried rice guy is holding is potentially over $100 by itself. and why the hell do you need tenderloin to make fried rice, anyway? It's one of the more expensive cow parts, it's filet mignon.
I kind of find it fun to watch videos where a butcher cuts up wagyu beef because it's a luxury that I can't justify spending on myself. But after a certain point this stuff stops feeling like fantasy, and begins feeling cruel. Maybe this guy has special connections where he can get that much crab for below wholesale prices, or has special deals with farmers to get a $60 whole tenderloin when he wants. But its more likely he's just rich, or is projecting the image of being rich using investor or sponsorship money.
The USA has leadership right now that dismantled any agency that can control bird flu and is blaming egg prices on its enemies. Normal people will be watching their grocery bills further skyrocket due to isolationist tariffs, rent, utilities, and medical prices take more out of their food budgets than ever before. And it would not surprise me if the plan to make up the difference after the feds round up low-wage immigrant workers is to send them right back to work but like, even more literally enslaved.
And youtube wants me to see the altreality where some random guy brings the economic collapse of largely indigenous alaskan fishing communities, and cubed filet mignon, to a tailgate??? what 'let them eat cake' bs is this???

So I’ve been into bookbinding lately (thanks, adhd randomized hyperfocus) and have wanted to try my hand at binding a novel, instead of just blank books. But, alas, I have not written a novel and didn't want to do a collection of short stories. Plus printing and binding my own stories feels, I don't know, kinda weirdly egocentric.
Then I read @applecrumbledore’s Pine sweat and fell so in love with it that I asked Roni if I could bind their story into a book. I offered to make two copies and send them one. They graciously agreed and I set out on a months long slog through learning typesetting and figuring out the logistics of printing a book.
I had to pick the right paper (went with a 24 lb 100% cotton in ivory), the right fonts, find the right leather and fabric for the quarter binding I wanted to do, and find a coordinating endpaper.
Tumblr media
And figured out how (and where) to print it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally had two copies printed! Now onto assembly...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So once I had my copy done, and figured out what I was doing, it was time to move onto the author’s copy…
Tumblr media
Done! So much better than the first copy (hooray for learning as we go). Mistakes I made that I fixed for the author's copy...
As I was sewing the 2nd copy together I realized that I'd double printed one of the signatures and, sure enough, my copy has pages 155-174 twice... *sad trombone* But I caught the error in time so the 2nd copy doesn't duplicate any pages. And luckily I didn't accidentally skip any pages, that would have been a much more upsetting problem.
On my copy I'd tried to trim the leading edge of the pages, but I don't have the proper tools to do it so I butcher the edge. This is bugs me, but I took it as a learning experience and my copy will serve as a reminder to not do that again.
I cut the case boards a little too small on mine, adjusted on the 2nd copy and they turned out perfect.
I didn't get the end papers lined up quite right on mine, and although the front end paper creased weirdly near the spine on the 2nd copy, it still looks so much better that it's an acceptable flaw.
All in all, this was a really positive experience and I'm still riding the creative high that comes from making a thing that is, frankly, beautiful. Now I want to make more, I just need to find a better way to print since I don't think my work would appreciate me printing smutty fan fiction on their laser printers 😬
September 7th, 2023 - I mailed @applecrumbledore the second copy today and it wasn't lost on me how fitting it seemed that the mid-Atlantic region, where I live, is having a heatwave (high of 93ºF/34ºC today). But I'm not posting this until they receive it, so as not to spoil the surprise of the reveal, so maybe, things will be cooler then.
Sept. 14th, 2023 - It arrived! Happily in good condition. And it is cooler!!! Not as cold as the end of the story certainly, no blizzards anytime soon (I hope) but only 66ºF/19ºC at it's destination. So it's cracking me up that the book's journey took it from sweltering heat to cool-ish temps sort of like the story.

Day 5 of 5 day workout week:
It’s Friday! It’s even Friday on a 3 day weekend! 🙌🏽 Actually 4 day weekend, because we had no school today. I even got to sleep in a bit this morning! 😁 I took that extra energy and threw it right at my workouts!
-I started with 40 minutes of total body strength training using dumbbells with a weight range of 5-12 lbs, a 12 lb kettlebell and a heavy resistance band.
-Then I went with a new kickboxing routine with 14 ounce gloves. I added in cardio intervals with 1 lb wrist weights and intervals of 2 lb weighted jump-rope. I finished with a stretch and a cooldown.
Total calorie burn = 455 kcals 👊🏽💥
That’s 5 workouts with early mornings, heatwaves, strong storms, a brief power outage, homework, and all the craziness that comes with the first week of anything! I’m definitely ready to recover! Enjoy your holiday weekend! 🫶🏽

In a neighbor related update the baby/toddler must not be sick/upset anymore because she spends her time happily toddling after their cat outside instead of wailing. Denny has also gotten adjusted to them and is no longer afraid of the cat so everything is back to lovely again. Sadly this week is supposed to be a heatwave so it means turning the a/c back on and hiding inside. My mother-in-law is visiting at the end of the week and I’m hoping it cools down by then. Just checked and it will so very happy about that, my SSRI I’m on for depression makes the hear unbearable for me and I get incredibly light headed and sick. I actually got overheated making dinner the other night and ended up passing out and vomiting, kind of scary but I felt fine afterwards. I need to make myself eat more but it’s very difficult on the wegovy both physically snd mentally right now since I’ve hit a plateau. I’ve lost about 37 lbs since starting my weight loss journey and can fit into old clothes again which is great but I can’t quite seem to lose more lately which is why it’s mentally hard to make myself eat more. I see my doctor next week so we’ll discuss increasing the dose and I’ll feel awful again for a little while but hey ho it’s worth it. I can comfortably wear a medium again which I haven’t done in four years and I’m thrilled, I ordered new spooky Halloween undies as a little present to myself. Today is also the 26th anniversary of my heart transplant which y’all lovelies know is a really weird fucking day for me. On the one hand it’s the second worst day of my life (the worst being losing Jäger) but on the other hand it marks 26 years of not letting depression win, and that’s kind of a big deal. I’m proud of myself for all I’ve overcome both physically and mentally it hasn’t been easy at all and the last few years have really sucked with all the extra hospital visits and blood work but I’m still going, I’m still here. We’ll probably order something nice for dinner but otherwise won’t do anything, it’s only been the last year or so I even started to contemplate celebrating my accomplishments because I’m so broken mentally. It doesn’t seem like an accomplishment it just seems like it’s a reminder of the day my life changed irrevocably, but I have accomplished a lot maybe not compared to a healthy person but for a person with my physical and mental health barriers I have done a shitload and go me. I’m rambling now so I should probably go lay down as it’s 2 am lol but if anyone wants to wish me a happy anniversary or just a congrats on not dying my inbox is open. I suppose I would answer questions about what life is like with a heart transplant too if anyone is interested, but I’d rather ramble about Mortal Kombat haha Sending love 💗

It’s a party in the U.S.A. with star-spangled banners set to wave and fireworks ready to burst in air for Independence Day next Thursday, July 4th. What better way to celebrate the land of the free and home of the brave than by supporting our regional farmers and local food producers this weekend? In keeping with this patriotic spirit, here is a foursome (naturally!) of iconic Fourth of July holiday dishes to serve up using a bounty of fresh, seasonal ingredients from your Down to Earth farmers market. Creamy, Tangy Potato Salad Classic potato salad pairs handsomely with just about every Fourth of July main dish from hotdogs to burgers to barbecued chicken and everything in between. This tasty recipe delivers plenty of creaminess, savory crunch and a dash of brightness via a soupcon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Ingredients
3 lbs Great Joy Family Farm Yukon Gold potatoes, cut into 1/2" pieces
1 small Lanis Farm red onion, finely chopped
¼ cup chopped Dr. Pickle dill pickles
4 hardboiled SOVA Farms eggs, chopped
¼ cup thinly sliced Great Joy Family Farm chives
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 ½ cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
½ tsp paprika
Freshly ground black pepper
Kosher salt
Authentic Greek Salad Now is the moment to indulge in salads galore to squeeze every juicy drop out of the growing season while it lasts. Thanks to the ongoing heatwave, an abundance of summer produce–including field-grown tomatoes, bell peppers and traditional cucumbers–has matured a couple of weeks early. These sun-ripened goodies are arriving at farmstalls in droves just in time for the July 4th holiday.
This authentic Greek salad captures the irresistible taste of summer in a bowl. Plus, you can easily source the bulk of its ingredients at the farmers market:
1 medium Lanis Farm red onion, thinly sliced into half moons
4 medium juicy Newgate Farms tomatoes, sliced into bite-sized pieces or wedges
1 Newgate Farms English cucumber, partially peeled to make a striped pattern and sliced into half moons
1 Lanis Farm green bell pepper, cored and sliced into rings
1 handful Dr. Pickle Kalamata olives
¼ cup Kontoulis Olive Oil extra virgin olive oil
1-2 tbsps red wine vinegar
1 (7 ounce) block Maplebrook Farm feta cheese in brine, torn into slabs
1 ½ tsps Kontoulis Olive Oil dried oregano
Kosher salt
Smashing Smash Burgers Smash burgers have become all the rage in recent years! A smash burger is made by smashing a ball of ground beef onto a grill or skillet with a spatula to produce a thinner, crispier patty that fans proclaim to be far tastier than a traditional burger. Patties are often double- or triple-stacked and served with melted cheese and caramelized onions. Make your July 4th cookout a smashing success by picking up sweet onions from the farmstalls and pastured ground beef to give this smash burger recipe a whirl. Don’t forget to grab some classic burger buns from the bread vendors too. Patriotic Puddings It’s a berry good idea to top off your holiday with a red, white and blue-themed fruit salad made with locally grown strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and apples from the farmstalls. This patriotically fun recipe features star-shaped apple cutouts, mixed berries and a honey lime poppy seed dressing. And now, a Berry Important Holiday PSA: Black raspberries are currently available from Newgate Farms so scoop up some of these deliciously hard-to-find, dark flavored beauties while you can as they have a very short-lived season. Of course, our baked goods vendors will bring plenty of ready-made treats for your festivities. Catch Little Bit O' Love Bakery’s July 4th vibes with their gluten-free, dairy-free blueberry muffins and their regular favorites including sourdough, focaccia, and pain au chocolat. Plus, they now offer gluten-free bagels so be sure to try this newly launched menu item that comes in plain, everything, and cinnamon raisin. And that’s a wrap on our all-American holiday edition. We wish you a very happy Independence Day and look forward to seeing you in the markets this weekend.
