hey wait a minute

so it's the start of AvA part 7 and Chosen and Dark are talking, right? and the former has this vision of terrible things happening if they don't stop the latter, right here and now.

they see the ViraBots descending on the last remnants of stick kind with Dark as their leader (or Lord if you will. ha ha) and i, trusting viewer, took their assessment as reliable*. we JUST saw Dark getting uncomfortably violent in earlier scenes after all

but

however

notwithstanding

unless Chosen has demonstrable prophetic powers (like how Orange has** in the past seen things currently happening (horizontally-prophetic let's call it: seeing faraway in the current time) (there's probably a better word for this but let's move on)), how did they know this was definitely what Dark was leading up to?

** ⬆ examples of Orange horizontally-prophesizing in AvM episode 11, SkyBlock (unconfirmed but referenced as, "uh? well maybe??? maybe i didn't think about it yet-" (abridged quote from AvG react video)) (op will die /j /extremely pos if this is used again in AvA 11 (HAH they'd both be episode 11 (op just giggled maniacally)))

Dark doesn't even have his control bracelets on.

Chosen is just that... reactive. what was it. @compressedrage (hi o/ ) had a good wording let me find it. yeah i guess it was reactionary

the ONLY time we've seen them stop to think things through is actually just a terrified anxiety breakdown while they stand there, frozen, imagining the worst, until they snap out of it JUST in time to impact their reality.

but with no time left for debate. reasoning. they assumed Dark was beyond reasoning from the moment he showed off what his device could do............. because they were beyond reasoning out of fear.

#okay im not sure about that final phrase after the dots but it sounded epic so i kept it in #*im trying to call up the phrase “unreliable narrator” here #that chosen's instincts weren't accurate. obviously Dark's weapons CAN harm stick figures deeply...#...and when push comes to shove they do (a self-fulfilling prophecy if you will?)...#...but let's look at the ViraBot gun and the portals. one direct-connects (hehe) to IP addresses.#keep in mind Dark didn't know about Alan's new buddies chilling on his PC #the others go to YouTube; Twitter; Reddit; Google; Twitch; Wikipedia; Discord.#these aren't places where stick figures live at all. in some corners of them but not primarily. there's a city RIGHT THERE-!#-but he doesn't care about it. im saying obv it's still not awesome of him to target human-centric websites either-#-did he change tho? if chosen listened long enough to hear him out? was his plan to go back to when cho was having fun too?#i can't know for sure but i sure am having fun thinking about it #alan becker #animator vs animation #ava the chosen one #ava the dark lord #ava orange #ava the second coming #subpixels

I was rewatching mouthwashing, and I ended up thinking of the different reactions that Curly and Jimmy had in doing their tasks. How during the scene of Anya evaluating Jimmy and showing dread towards the idea of doing his evaluation, Curly was the one that offered to take it off her hands. He had no issue with adding more to his plate, because he knew - or well, thought, he knew that Jimmy wasn't going to "bullshit" with him since he's known him for a long time. When Anya hands Curly a note from Swansea, Curly goes to check out what the issue is and he takes care of it without a complaint, the only "complaint" he has is how this incident could have damaged the pods. Which is reasonable, those pods are their only way to be saved if anything tragic happens on the ship. However, in comparison to Jimmy being asked to do things, he's passive-aggressive about it. When Anya asks Jimmy if he could help her out with Curly's painkillers, he tells her that people should be worth their titles, specifically using her title as a nurse when she asked him for help and then when she says forget it, since he made her feel insecure, he still goes "Oh no, I'LL take care of it" as if he was doing a chore, a favor for her. Then, there's that part where he blows up at her for things that she didn't even ask him to do - more so the others asked him about it, like the code scanner, him deciding he needed to find the axe for the foam, and then, there's the medicine part (which when she does ask, and she reconsiders - going to do it herself, he takes that away from her). Jimmy complains about the tasks he has to do and he treats it like a big issue, a "woes me" that he has to do this and that - wanting the praise of the capital without actually doing any work. While Curly doesn't complain about it, in fact, he even mentions that he's aware of how well he is doing at his job as a Captain during that cockpit scene with him and Jimmy. If Jimmy only had to do a small amount of tasks to get irritated and annoyed at being captain, while Curly didn't which I feel like encapsulates their personalities. Curly understands what he's doing is a job, it's a responsibility, why would he complain at any point for doing what he's suppose too? Why would he be upset at people asking him to do tasks? While Jimmy on the other hand, isn't used to it at all and it's different to what he's had before and he's realizing that he doesn't actually like doing the work he has too. I just wanted to ramble about it even if it seemed kind of obvious xd

It’s obvious but it is a thing people miss or understate when trying to find parallels in Curly’s and Jimmy’s relationship/personalities.

Like the way people portray it as neither taking responsibility when it is almost split down the middle of Curly taking responsibilities and faults that shouldn’t be his and making himself unequipped to handle the ones that are while Jimmy refuses to handle the responsibilities he has because he wasn’t expecting the work that comes with them.

Not a lot to say but people forget that another thing the game comments on is prioritization of issues and responsibilities and how the guys fail at it in one way or another in the situation.

#this talk of responsibility is more so about me be very annoyed with people acting like Swansea was the most responsible man on that ship #when he immediately takes a break after his intern in stuck in the foam starts drinking the moment he find out the mouthwash is alcoholic #doesn’t tell anyone about the cryopod or explain himself and did nothing about Jimmy either until it was too late #like I’m sorry but he is also the last guy I’d like to hear about responsibility from cause he did just as bad as Curly post crash like he #wasn’t even nice to Anya outside the one conversation we see he was actually just as rude to her as he was Daisuke when they cracked open #the crates and dismissive before hand like I’m getting more mad at the glorification of one guy vs the woman whose doing the most 4 herself #like I get his speech and the recognition of his faults but he still had them and they still were his downfall in the end and part of the #reason Daisuke listened to Jimmy and it’s not his fault that happened but it’s the same way it’s not Curly’s fault Jimmy is like that #but I digress cause people don’t exactly like when we actually discuss the responsibilities the crew mates should’ve and shouldn’t have had #or what they actually did to help cause idk Anya likely would not feel supported by any of them after the fact if they survived like girl #only ever got attention for her problems when they were literally at the worst that’s not helping or taking responsibility like she had to #kill herself to feel some sort of relief also the irony about Curly’s concern about killing herself only #for it to get to the point she actually did because there was no safety for her they all failed her #Swansea would’ve just told her to tell the captain and he’d watch Jimmy and ultimately it would play out the same cause he’s tries to not #get to involved cause he’s old and been through enough already and she’d feel just as unheard like he was closer to Daisuke #and not once after the crash did he really try to steer him away from liking Jimmy which again he points out himself #like I love Swansea and Daisuke but they were just as complacent in Anya’s suffering and Jimmy’s behavior even if they knew less that should #not make them more viable options or it more excusable like crazy conclusions to comes to ig on my part but yall hate #the idea that maybe a major point is that Anya was alone as a woman and overlooked #mouthwashing #ask #mouthwashing game #anon #curly mouthwashing #jimmy mouthwashing

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you

#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what #allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of #the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than #to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do #im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt #take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was #mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their #mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that #explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain #direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in #arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to #engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out #theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive #a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked #picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing #sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example #for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war #is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old #wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for #steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with #especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can #look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never #treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time #but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made #feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them #accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me #yapping #diary

[9/9/24] ive been staying pretty late in the physics building and its eerie but peaceful, since im p much the only person on this floor. my desk looks more cheerful now but im woefully behind for assignments. the weather's getting colder which means i get sleepier. i am once again dreading the prospects of postgrad life and i assume that feeling will only be amplified in the coming months.

however, one of my former students told me they were glad im once again TAing a class they're taking, and i was so touched. maybe all this will be worth something in the end.

Actually interesting tidbit re: your languages comic! In game it’s implied that Kazuichi can speak/read English bc he reads a sign in English to Hajime! Although I always kind of just imagined he picked it up from watching TV/Movies and isn’t super fluent

Yeah lots of ppl pointed that out and admittedly I plain forgot. But i do think it makes sense that he taught himself through manuals and the internet, so he's better at reading it than most, but when it comes to listening to (the hurried, limp, molasses-like American) English that's where he fumbles. Seeing the words makes sense, hearing eybuddyowyadowein is another. Also being HoH post-game doesnt help.

#not an art #Listen. I'm very fluent in English it's my second language. But the way you Speak vs Write is fuckinfg worlds apart okay #I come from a very straight-forward pronunciation language (like japanese!) and its SO different.#Same with Spanish just for the pure Speed of it. Can I guesstimate some spanish written word? Yea! Can I HEAR shit? No.

Music enjoyers, can you name an artist that took a long time for you to decide you like, and another that you loved from the first listen?

uhh, dont question the voices or floaty things though i......i uh.....theyre nothing...i hope...i think ?? I'm not giving them that much thought right now but, i promise im not crazy....i hope ??

but i mean, being a cat in itself ?? so weird to get used to, but also i kinda naturally adapted ?? if anything it was more difficult getting used to being back to normal, DONT TELL THE OTHERS but the first day i got back to normal i forgot i had only two legs periodically

im so glad that nobody was up during that that was embarrassing......and hopefully theyre all too busy to read all this ahahaha.....

but it was ??? fun....admittedly.....im glad to be back to normal dont get me wrong, but honestly ?? i did not mind all the attention and affection from the floaty people...? thats what im calling them now....

but also thats after they gave me so much catnip.....it feels like a fever dream because of how much catnip i ate for a week straight then.....

i also somehow figured out how to type as a cat !!! or well, aggressively pawing at my phone screen was close enough, emojis were easier to hit and redo instead of typing words so i just did that for a bit, however my phone is now insanely scratched.....but it was so worth it to still call green gay and homophobic while i was a cat aha...

its....weird though, i do miss it, but not in the way of wanting to be permanently a cat, its....hard to explain ??

although it was insanely vunerable, i hate being coddled that much !!! not that i don't like attention though !! it was nice just.....ugh id hate to be babied....although im still a kid....teen.... technically...? but....im just rambling !! aha back to cat stuff !!
