As codependents we want to try to accommodate and appease the narcissist so that we understand what will win their approval and what will finally make us secure . But the narcissist only provides ‘damned if you do and damned if you don’t’ scenarios . In the traumatised rush to get our needs met, the narcissist laid out a maze. And we don’t find any solid ground, or any rules of the game that ever stay consistent . In regular life, I enjoy games, and when they get harder I try to puzzle them out. To backtrack and try other approaches . But the narcissist’s game has no rules except that they win in every situation. And they enjoy watching their targets struggle to find the end in a loop . There’s no winning for the codependent except to stop playing completely and walk away .
