~ Cure Grace is very shocked, and a bit uncomfortable with your… um… “comments”. Even if they were directed at the villains. She can’t find it in herself to say anything mean about anyone ever. So she can’t understand how you could.

Nodoka: “How do you say those all those things?”

(name): “All what things?”

Nodoka: “You know, all the mean things.”

(name): “Oh. Dunno, I just say whatever comes to mind.”

Nodoka: “Wow…”

~ She knows that not everyone is the same as her. For others, including you, this kind of behavior amplifies your fighting spirit and abilities. It helps get off steam as well. So while she isn’t a fan, she keeps quiet.

(cure name): “Wow Daruizen, I can’t wait to talk crap about you with the others when we’re done here. Right, Grace?”

Cure Grace: “Huh? Oh. Hehe, yeah…”

~ She’ll even defend you. If Cure Fontaine ever scolds you, she’ll try to explain and justify your actions the best she can. She just wants you to be able to heal the earth in your own way. Even if it may seem a bit obnoxious.

Cure Fontaine: “(cure name), you have to stop! It’s just too mean!”

Cure Grace: “But Fontaine, it helps distract the bad guys, making defeating the Megabyogens easier.”

(cure name): “See, Cure Grace gets it!”

Cure Fontaine: “Ugh…”

~ Cure Fontaine stopped in her tracks the first time she heard your brutal insults towards the villains. She asked you to repeat it, wanting to be sure she wasn’t just hearing things. Once you confirmed she heard correctly, she was horrified.

Cure Fontaine: “What did you say?”

(cure name): “Huh? Oh, I just told him that he’s not the ugliest person alive, but that he better pray they don’t die.”

Cure Fontaine: “Oh my goodness! Why would you say that?”

(cure name): “Because it’s true?”

~ She’s been trained her whole life to be nothing but polite to others, even people she doesn’t like. So while she does fight the bad guys, she doesn’t go out of her way to be mean to them. So she sees your behavior as straight up barbaric.

(cure name): “I bet your parents change the subject whenever people ask about you.”

Shindoine: “I don’t have parents.”

(cure name): “Huh, no wonder.”

Cure Fontaine: “(cure name)! How rude!”

~ She can’t help but gasp every time another insult leaves your mouth. She knows she should be used to them by now, but she just can help it. Your words were just so… vile. Of course, you get scolded by her after the battle. But obviously, that doesn’t stop you.

Cure Fontaine: “(cure name), can you just… not say such mean things?”

(cure name): “Why? Don’t you think they deserve it?”

Cure Fontaine: “I don’t think it matters if they deserve it or not. I just don’t wanna hear it.”

(cure name): “Then just don’t listen…”

~ Cure Sparkle finds it hilarious! It’s the highlight of any battle for her! The first time she heard the way you talk to the villains, she laughed so hard, her fighting skills depleted. Which is obviously a downside, but she doesn’t mind. You all still get the job done, after all!

*Megabyogen lands an attack*

(cure name): “Oof! Hey, for someone like you, that’s pretty good!

Cure Sparkle: “Haha! That was a nice one!”

Cure Fontaine: “Sparkle, focus!”

Cure Sparkle: “Oh, sorry!”

~ She joins in whenever she has idea of what to say. She knows her insults will never be as good as yours, but there’s no harm in trying! It’s always a fun time for her when she gets to talk smack with you. In fact, she does so even more post-battle!

Hinata: “Did you see the look on Batetemoda’s face when I said that? Haha!”

(name): “Haha, yeah! I almost felt bad for him!

Hinata: “Right? I mean, his poor Megabyogen didn’t even last five minutes either!”

~ She’d never admit this to anyone, especially you, but she really admires you for your lack of shame when it comes to being mean to bad people. She writes down all of her favorite insults of yours in a notebook. She’s built up quite the collection! She’s saving them for any occasion where she might need a nasty comeback.

(cure name): “If you were the light at the end of the tunnel, I’d turn back around!”

Cure Sparkle: “Ooh, that’s a good one. I better add that later.”

Cure Grace: “Add what to what?”

Cure Sparkle: “Nothing!”

~ Initially, Cure Earth was shocked and taken aback by your words. She may not have been alive for long, but those were simply the rudest things she’s ever heard! However, considering who they were aimed at, she quickly brushed them off.

(cure name): “I’d give you a nasty look, but it seems you’ve already got one!”

Cure Earth: “Oh my…”

(cure name): “What?”

Cure Earth: “Oh, nothing.”

~ She is all about healing the world. So while she may not understand your behavior, she just figures that’s your way of doing it. Sure, it may not be her cup of tea, but it’s yours, so she just lets you be.

Chiyu: “So (name)’s behavior doesn’t bother you at all?”

Asumi: “Not really. It’s just their way of getting things done.”

Chiyu: “So I’m really the only one…”

~ Also, she won’t lie, she’s pretty impressed with how good your insults are. She can barely even come up with her own. Latte finds them funny sometimes too, so that makes her happy. Though, if you ever swear in front of her, be prepared to get an ear-full from her afterwards.

(cure name): “Wow, there’s no way you’re this much of a dumba-“

Cure Earth: “(cure name)…”

(cure name): “… this much of an idiot naturally. You must go home and practice.”

Any update on Go Princess Precure?? Also curious too know your next series, with a vote towards Healin Good Precure

As for my next series, I’m still torn between Mahoutsukai and Healin’ Good, though I’ve also heard good things about Fresh and Yes! Precure 5.

I’ve been busy with other things, but I just finished Episode 30 a week ago and decided to stop there for now, since it was the end of a major story arc. Right now, I think the show’s gotten even better with the way the story’s gone so far.

I like how there were some focus episodes for the three Cures to obtain new Dress Up Keys (the transformation trinkets I forgot to mention last time) that all focused on them reaffirming their dreams and desires

We learn more about Minami’s past in Episode 16 and her affection for marine life (mainly a dolphin who saved her as a kid), coincidentally tying into her Cure form.

Kirara learns to loosen up a little bit in Episode 17 when modeling thanks to her mom who manages to piss her off enough to get daughter to rant about her so the day of an important fashion show, she’s calm enough to focus.

But my favorite of the three and favorite of the series so far is Episode 18, where we learn more about the book that inspired Haruka to want to become a princess in the first place when she talks with the author about why she never wrote a sequel where the Princess of Flowers met a prince mentioned in the original. It’s really interesting how the author herself said it’s up to interpretation by the readers (based off the initial fanart kids sent to her when it was first published), which is like how so many fandoms come up with their own versions of popular stories, like people in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom do.

The next major story arc where the team has their final encounter with Twilight is also really good, and we also get to see Kanata and Haruka interact for the first time in person. The scene where they first meet is just so precious, with the two playing up their roles as prince and princess almost like an in-joke.

Kanata in general is also a really strong character. The dude has no powers and keeps fighting monsters on his own, and the fact that after losing his sister (who obviously turns out to be Twilight), Haruka (whom he gave her primary Dress Up Key to as a kid) is the one to help him get his hope back and motivate him to keep fighting while he in turn inspires her to become a princess is a great plot development. 

Granted, I’m not sure if they’re supposed to be romantically coded or not given Haruka reminded Kanata of his sister and Kanata looks a few years older than Haruka, but I love their interactions regardless... It’s just too bad he was kicked out of the plot at the end of Episode 22 and wasn’t even mentioned since. I get that they had to focus on a new character, but given she was also connected to Kanata, you would think he would at least be mentioned more.

The new character in question and Twilight’s true identity, Towa (get it?), ends up becoming the team’s fourth cure, Cure Scarlet. She was brainwashed by Dyspear to do her bidding and her initial disappearance was enough to drive her and Kanata’s home, the Hope Kingdom to despair so Dyspear could take over, and even though it was out of her control, Towa still feels awful for what she did, and even after becoming a Precure, doesn’t feel like she should even work with the other three, much less enjoy herself while people are suffering. Much like Yuri, recovering from her trauma drives her initial character arc with her getting to know each member of the team (including the fairies and Yui), culimating in a great character moment in Episode 28. As she breaks free from Dyspear’s grasp, she rises up like the metaphorical phoenix her powers are based off.

And yeah, while all that’s deep, that’s not the point. The point is that she has AWESOME FIRE POWERS THAT SHE USED TO CRIPPLE DYSPEAR IN HER FIRST FIGHT!

Yeah, I have a bit of a soft spot for characters with fire powers (mainly Zuko, Ultraman Mebius, Mick Rory, Blaziken and Shoto Todoroki), so I instantly warmed up to Cure Scarlet’s motif, and yes that pun was very much intended. Even putting that aside, her little redemption arc is still really engaging, and it’s interesting to see her come into her own as an individual after being used as a tool for most of her life.

Admittedly, she does get a fair amount of screentime in almost every episode she’s a part of (barring one Haruka-centric episode), but the writers seem to acknowledge that when Lock becomes the main villain for the arc, and more focus is given to the core three in defeating them using the power of the Hope Kingdom’s castle they turned into a music box. I swear it makes more sense if you watch it.

But yeah, I think the show’s second third is even better than the first, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it ends.

Mega’s Top 2021 Anime

Another year is coming to a close and once again its time to recap my favorite anime of the year. Rather than a long piece about my thoughts on my top 5, I'll keep it brief this year. As a whole the high end shows were few and far between, but a few definitely stood out from the crowd. (light spoilers ahead)

1) Tropical-Rouge! Precure

I was skeptical going into this year’s Precure series due to Healin’ Good falling to pieces under the pandemic, and knowing the next series would be a comedy. But within the first few episodes, I found myself getting more and more invested into the series. Manatsu and the mermaid Laura’s friendship is the backbone of the series. Its also genuinely funny a lot of the time. A big surprise has been the well developed side cast. Each one is given a character arc with episodes on a regular basis (Asuka’s story being given the most attention). In a bad year, it was refreshing to have a consistently well animated and well written show to watch each week.

2) Yuru Camp Season 2

The year begin with a new season of everyone’s favorite cute girls go camping series. The relationships from season 1 continued to develop, and by the end of the season Nadeshiko’s love of camping becomes increasingly unique compared to Rin. An interest that started with a chance encounter is taking a life of its own. The secondary cast had great antics from start to finish as well. Definitely a highlight of the year due to being pure comfort food. I’m looking forward to the movie in 2022.

3) Mushoku Tensei

I never expected to get invested into Mushoku Tensei. The first cour was great, but not overly amazing. That changed during the second cour. Rudeus’s journey with Eris and Ruijerd took them into an array of unique locations one after the other. Rather than have an opening theme, the series opted to use that time for montaging the adventures and show off highlights of the current location that episode. It made the world of Mushoku Tensei feel very alive. However, the moment that solidified its place at the top of year for me was the last 2 episodes. As the journey concluded, Rudeus was left in a major crossroads in his life. The journey could hardly be called inconsequential, but nothing had fundamentally changed for him. For the first time he had to step up for his own sake to progress forward. Mushoku Tensei is the rare isekai series that is actually a very good show.

4) Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is an interesting shonen series. I wouldn’t say it reinvents anything, nor is it appealing to the eyes (especially the manga). However, it combines some of the best defining elements of previous gen shonen to provide a fresh experience you won’t find in another series right now. Season 1 covered the introduction arcs with jaw dropping animation at every turn. This is one of my favorites of the year due to its sheer level of flashiness. We are in for a treat if they maintain this quality during the Shibuya arc. As a manga reader I can only say its the moment that changes everything.

5) SSSS.Dynazenon

Dynazenon is a lot less straightforward than its previous entry, but it’s perhaps stronger in the delivery of its themes. There is a strong emphasis on the relationships people have with each other whether they are lovers, long lost friends, unexpected encounters, or even if the relationship spans across time itself. The interwoven subplots through the kaijuu battles may not be for everyone, but I found it to be approached in a nuanced manner. The subtlety of its character writing and meticulous presentation made it just as memorable as the first series for me.

Disappointments of the year:

The Promised Neverland season 2 - cut content and an extremely shorted story makes this very incoherent Muv-Luv Alternative - not enough episodes to have a sufficient adaptation + lack of anything for Extra/Unlimited

Best OP/EDs for the Year:

1) Tropical-Rouge Precure opening - The catchy song and fun dancing visuals provide a quick overview of everyone’s personalities.

2) Komi Can’t Commutate opening - A surprisingly artistic opening which never fails to leave me impressed.

3)  Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S opening - This is a 90 second showcase of everything that makes Dragon Maid fun. It was great seeing KyoAni back on the TV anime scene in 2021.

4) Pretty Boy Detective Club opening - A good opening can capture and display the positive qualities of a show. This achieves both while getting the viewer in the mindset for the episode ahead.

5) Attack on Titan Final Season (Part 1) opening - The military imagery with distorted visual and lyrics truly set the tone for the setting change in this final stretch of the story. It’s a good metaphor for how muddled the situation has become for all parties in the series.

The current trends in the anime world are concerning. Everyone has split off into their respective corners of the market, often backed by a major company willing to buy out as many shows as possible. This has lead to an unsustainable number of anime getting made today, and a complete oversaturation of the market. I think this is only going to get worse in the years ahead. They have learned that mass produced anime is more than enough to fill the content demand consumers crave. At least there’s a few high quality adaptations mixed in there to look forward to.

Hopefully 2022 will be a better year!

which precures would read homestuck without being dared to

Boy howdy. There’s a question I didn’t expect. Well let’s see here and go down the list:

Nagisa: Got into it shortly after launch, after hearing Honoka talk about it.

Honoka: OG reader, has been around for most of Hussie’s stuff.

Hikari: She didn’t read it until about halfway through its publication run, but caught up in a single night. She made fanart.

Saki: She tried to get into it for Mai, but it never really meshed with her. Still learned enough through osmosis to cosplay both Dirk and Dave.

Mai: She has five sketch books that are just redraws of the entire series with everybody replaced by Saki. None of her friends must ever see. They saw. They didn’t get it, but liked the art.

Nozomi: OG reader, not the absolute biggest fan, but did walk away liking it.

Rin: Saw Nozomi read it, and tried a little herself. Then she met Kanaya. The rest was history and fanfics. And special flower arrangements.

Urara: Currently lobbying for a broadway adaption. She is undecided which role she wants to play tho.

Komachi: She has changed her writing pseudonym to John Egbert, to get a better likelyhood of getting her Pirate Hurricane series published. She writes more like a mix of Dave and Rose though. It’s fucking mind expanding.

Karen: She had it fed through her home’s in house cinema to watch it with Komachi initially. They all ended up watching it.

Milk/Kurumi: “Vriska did nothing wrong”

Love: Her and Setsuna totally are like Rose and Kanaya. She is Rose of course.

Miki: She knows she is everybody’s Kanaya. She spend some time making masks of the characters. You can imagine how well that ended. Her Kanaya cosplays are somehow still great for the family boutique.

Inori: Yeah, she read it. Each reading session was followed by a trip to the confession booth. Eventually she just started reading it in the confession booth. The priest liked it too.

Setsuna: Her and Love totally are like Rose and Kanaya. She is Rose of course.

Tsubomi: Yes she read it. No her friends must never know. She doesn’t realize all of them have read it too.

Erika: The only friend Tsubomi opened up to about Homestuck. Turns out Erika runs one of the main japanese fansites of Homestuck.

Itsuki: Main mod on Erika’s fansite. Tsubomi must never know. Nor her family. Itsuki still feels too uncomfortable in their skin for that.

Yuri: Almost OG reader, she and Honoka frequented the same forums. Upon casual mention from Honoka, Yuri tried it out. Her young friends must never be tainted by this horror. Hopefully Hussie updates soon!

Hibiki:Learned about it through Ako. Found it pretty sweet, but didn’t make it all the way.

Kanade: Also learned about it through Ako. her bi heart couldn’t be stopped as she steamed through almost all of it in one go.

Ellen: Had been following it for about a year with Hummie before Suite happened. Continued reading while on the villains side. Often plays Homestuck songs while busking, and has several rearrangements on niconico.

Ako: Has been reading Hussie’s stuff since halfway through Problem Sleuth. She was 7 at the time. There’s a reason she a) is so crumby, Karkat is her spirit animal, and b) she decided to go and become an extra af phantom thief precure.

Miyuki: She is a reading machine, and of course this would capture her attention. She came in a bit late but found it on her own.

Akane: Similarly to Rin, she saw it over Miyuki’s shoulder one day, did a bit of reading herself, and got pretty hooked for a while.The hiatuses however broke her streak. Oddly enough the main emotion she took away from it is a hate for Equius, which she shares with Nao.

Yayoi: Main fanart contributor to Erika’s fansite. Her and Reika spend hours talking about Terezi.

Nao: Never did read it, she was too busy with her family and superheroism. More recently though, she decided to kinda wiki crawl the subject. Walked away primarily with a hate for Equius.

Reika: Another mod on Erika’s fansite.She has found her path. Her parents are disappointed. Screw her parents.

Mana: Tried it, didn’t like it. Square.

Rikka: Wishes she could live on that first planet they showed, with the froggies. She tries to dare Mana, but continues to get shot down. Mana is such a square.

Alice: Found it on one of her internet binges to bring her temper down. It proofed a surprisingly good tool to keep her mellow, which is why we see so little of her inner rage during the show. Another Terezi fan.

Makoto: Somehow has never come across a single shred of evidence that Homestuck exists. As unlucky as she is, she might be the luckiest of us all.

Aguri: Unlike Makoto, she has seen what Rikka and Alice are up to. She did read it a little, and liked what she saw well enough, but didn’t stick with it. Not enough time, and her twin sister lives fifty miles in Vriska did nothing wrong territory, so clearly she must be better than her. (She isn’t.)

Megumi: Came across it on her own, read it, but lost interest.

Hime: Runs the discord server for Erika’s fansite.

Yuko: Does occasional lyrics for Ellen’s arrangements, both on youtube and niconico, and makes the occasional troll riceball.

Iona: She was in fact dared, but by Megumi of all people, after she stopped reading. There is no bigger Rose fan now.

Haruka: As an avid reader, it did cross her radar, she went through it, and came out more determined than before to be the best princess she can be.

Minami: Amusingly enough, stumbled across it during her internet binges boning up on marine biology. Feferi popped up in her searches somehow, and the rest is history.

Kirara: Fans suggested it to her. She read it. The most fabulous Kanaya cosplayer of them all.

Towa: Kirara suggested it to her after she herself had finished (by now the webcomic is done IRL) partially because nerds gotta share, and partially because she truly felt it might help her cope with some of her inner turmoil from the guilt over being Twilight. Towa is slow in reading through this particular one, so she is still going through it today. Results unclear, she doesn’t talk much about it, even with Kirara. It might be helping though.

(The remaining characters I don‘t know as well as the others yet, but I’ll see what I can conjure up. Intriguingly I feel this also marks the first generation of Cures that lived in a post Homestuck world, what with Mahoutsukai airing in 2016, and Homestuck ending in 2016.)

Mirai: Got dragged in by the hype over the ending of Homestuck. Dared Riko to read it with her. They did. They planned their wedding to be like Rose’s and Kanaya’s.

Riko: Got dragged in by Mirai. Would feel very big deja vu next year when they both became moms to Kotoha.

Kotoha: Her moms protect her from this vice. (She found it anyways. There is no stopping the corruption of the youth.)

Saaya: Actually dodged both the Homestuck and the Undertale bullet initially. Hana then tossed Deltarune at her, and Saaya fell down the rabbit hole.

Homare: She had some inner hangups about getting into the whole mess, but Hana did dare her, knowing enough about the series to know that it’s message might gibe Homare the kick in the behind she needed to give ice skating another go.

Emiru: Big Undertale fan, but doesn’t care about the webcomic herself. Uncertain if even a dare would work, she does her own thing... well, besides the music. She freaking loves the music.

Amour: Read the whole thing in one hour to understand its impact on culture. What else would make her crash and join the heroes? Jokes aside, she did do it, and it did leave an impact on her. She was the one who connected Aoi and Emiru.

Hikaru: What are the freaking odds that she hasn’t read through it in its entirety three times this week alone?

Lala: Had her ship read it to her as something to fall asleep to. It put her to sleep quickly, actually, like tales from home. Her ship didn’t fare as well. It’s one of the biggest crack shippers on Erika’s site. Lala only heard like ten percent of the story.

Elena: Has neither the free time nor privacy to read a webcomic that’s now a decade old. Likes listening to Hikaru’s ranting about the series. Also likes how somehow that ranting makes Madoka’s face light up.

Madoka: It is unknown how she found the time, but she is a freaking huuuueg closet fan. She wants to talk with Hikaru about it, but still feels too uncomfortable being public about it. Hikaru does however know that MoonSollux, one of the biggest fanfic writers on Erika’s site, is her, but will wait for Madoka to come out of her shell in her own time.

Yuni: Missed the whole mess being a space alien idol phantom thief. Is getting a very wrong idea about human culture from Hikaru’s ranting. A dare would totally work.

PreCure Girls Celebrate Young Children Magazine Tanoshii Youchien's 65th Anniversary

    Kodansha's magazine for young children Tanoshii Youchien (literally means Pleasant Kindergarten) was established in November 1956 and will celebrate its 65th anniversary this year. To commemorate the memorial year, it was announced that a commemorative logo in collaboration with Toei Animation's popular anime franchise PreCure will appear on the cover of the magazine's March 2021 issue to be released on March 29.

  The limited-edition commemorative logo features the three main girls from the recent three series - Cure Star from the 16th series Star☆Twinkle PreCure (2019-2020), Cure Grace from the ongoing 17th series Healin' Good Pretty Cure (2020-2021), and Cure Summer from the upcoming 18th series Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure (2021-). The magazine will feature a special collaboration project with PreCure in every issue.

  Satoko Asano, editor-in-chief of Tanoshii Youchien, says, "The special logo for this anniversary featuring the three protagonists - Cure Summer surrounded by Cure Grace and Cure Star. ~ She mostly doesn’t mind when you play them. Everyone should be able to enjoy their interests! But she does get annoyed if you play them during school or when you’re supposed to be hanging out with them. It bothers her when you’re distracted when you’re supposed to be doing other things.

~ Even though she’s not a gamer herself, she won’t say no to playing a game with you and the others! If it’s an activity everyone’s doing, then she sees no problem in participating. It may take her a while to get the rules and controls though.

~ Depending on the game you’re playing, she may occasionally enjoy watching you. Seeing your skills up close is so mesmerizing to her. ~ It does concern her whenever you play games on the violent side. Sure, she’s a Pretty Cure, but you’re causing violence for fun. She just doesn’t get it. ~ When someone like you meets someone they dislike, they don’t make any effort to hide it. That’s exactly what happened when you met Daruizen. You hated his personality from the moment you saw him lounging on a tree while his Megabyogen ran wild.

~ As you spewed your aggression and insults at him, he was amused at first. But over time, he felt himself become more and more irritated. You just kept going, never getting tired. He wishes you’d just shut up, and hate him silently.

~ The only reactions he ever gives are dry responses. He would interact with you to get on your nerves, but doesn’t want to give you any sort of satisfaction either. Besides, he’s much too lazy to do anything else anyway. So he leaves all the talking, yelling and insulting to you.

~ Your pompous trait reminds Daruizen of his own teammates. And he does not have fond opinions of them. The way you flaunt and show off is quite irritating to him. Especially since he himself doesn’t do more than he has to. You go out of your way to show others how cool you think you are, and it gets under his skin. But of course, he doesn’t show it.

~ While your average insults don’t faze him, there is one thing that grinds his gears. And that’s when you talk down to him as if he’s ignorant or a child. He’s already the young one of his own group, so he doesn’t need someone else treating him as such. Talking to him in a high pitched, baby voice and stating obvious things in an informative manner really gets on his nerves.

~ If you learn all the things that trigger him, you just might be able to get an actual reaction out of him. Just combine everything he hates about you, and crank it up to one hundred percent. Eventually, he’s bound to crack. And if he does, oh boy, are you in for a fight.

~ Daruizen would battle you one on one, taking all his rage and annoyance out on you; the culprit. It’s surprising to see him act so out of character. But if you wanted to get him all riled up, congratulations, you’ve succeeded. The battle would go on until he either loses steam or one of you defeats each other. Afterwards, he’d leave without hardly saying a word. Just know that you’ve successfully gotten yourself an enemy.

~ It’s a bit difficult for Chiyu to keep up(or keep down?) with your laziness. She’s a busybody, and very athletic, a stark contrast to you. But nonetheless, she enjoys having you around. Even if she has to slow down because of how slow you are.

~ It scared her quite a bit when she saw you get protective for the first time. You went from being completely out of it, to fuming all in the span of a few seconds. It stresses her out quite a bit. Especially considering she was raised to only be kind to others, even if you don’t like them.

~ She’s always the one who holds you back when you’re getting really protective. She hates conflict, so she really doesn’t want you to get involved in any.

~ Cure Fontaine was super surprised when she saw you fight for the first time. You were the last person she’d expect such feistiness from. But she likes your spirit! Even if it can be a bit much sometimes.

~ She always finds it funny how after the battle is over, you immediately go from aggressive to your usual, lazy self. It’s almost as if it’s transforming that makes you like that. She really wants to ask you, but isn’t really sure how.

It’s not the lazy part itself, but it’s how it makes you always look so out of things. She ends up thinking you’re in a bad mood, or not having a good time. She even began to think that you didn’t like her.

~ The rest of the girls, having known you for longer, quickly informed her that wasn’t the case. So she now understands how you are. Though, it still confuses her sometimes. So she still occasionally asks if you’re having fun, just to be sure.

~ Asumi is very protective of Latte, so she relates to you when she sees how protective you are of others. She may not be as aggressive, but she understands how you feel. She appreciates the care you feel, even more so when it’s aimed towards her.

~ She’s never one to stop you when you get super defensive for others. She’d only ever hold you back if you began to get physical. Although, she doesn’t really need to, because Chiyu always has it covered. As long as you’re not hurting anyone, she always defends your behavior.

~ She was definitely the most shocked when she saw how you fight in battles. She doesn’t really have much experience with people, and how different they can be in certain situations. So she assumed you would be as enthusiastic with it as you are with everything else. Though, the shock soon turned into pride. She’s happy with how dedicated you are with healing the earth, and sees you as an irreplaceable member of the team.

You stared down at the limp body on the grass, wondering if it worked. The Pretty Cure used a very strong attack on their enemy, Daruizen, in hopes of purifying him. And now, he lay motionless.

You weren’t sure if purifying him was even a possibility. His whole existence is being some sort of germ, so removing disease from his being might just make him disappear completely. You waited impatiently for it to happen, but as the minutes passed, his whole body was still intact.

Then, he started moving. Slowly and laboriously, but he was definitely moving. Finally, he was sat up. His back was turned to you, so you couldn’t quite tell how he was doing.

“Daruizen?” Cure Earth called out to him. The other Pretty Cure gripped their Healing Sticks just in case of an attack. Cure Grace was gripping hers particularly hard, so much so that her hand began to shake.

The boy turned around, and the girls, minus the one in pink, lowered their weapons in relief. It seemed that the purification was a success! Daruizen looked different. His horns and scorpion tail were no longer present, and his skin was now a natural color, instead of its original pale blue. His ears were also rounded, instead of pointy. He looked fully human.

“How?” He asked, looking frightened. He glanced down at his hand, getting a view of his new complexion.

“I don’t know, but it’s great, isn’t it?” Cure Sparkle exclaimed excitedly.

You took notice that Daruizen didn’t share the same enthusiasm as her. You took a step towards her to get her to act a bit calmer, but jumped when you got an interruption.

“Great? How is this great? I can’t go back to the Byogen Kingdom now! I’ll be shunned by the others! I don’t have a home now!” He shouted angrily, despite his obvious exhaustion.

Cure Sparkle’s shoulders tensed, and she frowned guiltily. “Oh, yeah…” She turned to the others. “What should we do guys?”

Cure Earth and Cure Fontaine struggled to come up with ideas. And Cure Grace didn’t seem interested in making a solution. She just stood a distance away, not wanting to even look at Daruizen. You could understand why she wouldn’t want anything to do with him. He was the cause of the illness that ripped a large portion of her childhood away from her.

So, you decided to take matters into your own hands. “He can come with me.” You said. Everyone turned to look at you.

“Are you sure, (name)?” Cure Fontaine asked.

“Yes, I’m sure. He doesn’t have anywhere to go. Plus, my house has an extra bedroom. And I’m sure my parents won’t mind taking him in.” You smiled, glancing over to him.

You walked over to Daruizen. He looked scared and nervous, though he was attempting to hide it with a tough face. You knelt down to his level, and held out your hand. At that moment, you didn’t see a heartless villain, just a sad, scared little boy who needed help. “Wanna come with me?” You asked him.

Daruizen stared down at your palm for a moment, before slowly taking it. His hand was cold, and slightly shaking. “I guess I don’t have a choice.” He said, avoiding eye contact. You gave him a gentle smile, letting him know that everything was okay, before helping him up onto his feet.

“Mom, Dad, this is my friend, Daruizen.” You introduced your parents to the boy next to you, gesturing to him. “He has no family, and nowhere to say. So I was hoping he would stay with us?”

Your parents looked over at Daruizen. He tried to look as normal as possible, but was very obviously nervous and unsure.

“Of course he can. If he needs help, that’s what he’s going to get.” Your mother said, giving him a gentle smile. Your father nodded, agreeing with her statement.

You let out a sigh of relief, and thanked them. You lightly tapped Daruizen, urging him to do the same. “Thank you for your generosity.” He said, bashfully looking away.

~(Three weeks later…)~

To be honest, you were skeptical on how well Daruizen would fit in. His world was just so different from yours. But to your surprise, he was actually doing quite well.

There were some things he had to get used to though. Sleep was one of them. Apparently, being a germ of sorts, he used to not need sleep. So it took him a while to understand. You still occasionally need to force him to bed when he claims he’s not tired. Food was another thing. Again, it wasn’t something he used to need. But once you introduced him to it, he really enjoys it. He especially loves your parents’ cooking. Dinner is probably one of his favorite parts of the day.

The two of you have grown close through the weeks. Though Daruizen can be cold, he began to warm up to you. He struggles with other people, but you figured that since you’re the one who took him in, it made it easier to trust you. The relationship you have gained resembles the one siblings would have. So you basically think of Daruizen as your little brother. And though he won’t admit it, he thinks of you as his sister.

So now that he was used to being on Earth, it was only appropriate to enroll him in school. He was quite reluctant at first. He claimed he didn’t need school. But you managed to convince him.

So now, you stood in front of the gates of Sukoyaka Middle School, with Daruizen by your side. He was wearing his brand new uniform, and had his bag in hand. You watched him observe the other students as they walked to class.

“I wish I could go in with you. Are you sure you’ll be alright?” You asked him. You’re worried about him, since other than with you, he tends to not be very good at socializing.

“Yes. I’ll be fine.” He said, a bit annoyed. He took a glance at you, then looked down at his shoes. “…. Thanks (name).”

“Oh?” You questioned. “What for?”

“For helping me, and giving me a home.” His eyes were still facing downwards. “I fully expected you to just leave me on my own, especially after everything I did. But you didn’t. You showed me so much about Earth, and cared for me. Back in the Byogen Kingdom, relationships with others weren’t really a thing. So friends or family are something I’ve never had. I never thought I’d admit this, but my new life had been… enjoyable.”

You nearly felt your eyes water at his words. “I’m so glad, Daruizen! You’ve been adjusting so well, and I’m so proud of you. I just know that you’re gonna do great in school!”

Daruizen looked up at you, and gave you a very small smile. You smiled back much wider, and pulled him in for a hug. “What the heck is this?” He asked, confused and annoyed.

“It’s called a hug.” You laughed.

Daruizen wriggled out of your grasp. “Well, I’m not a fan. Please don’t do that again.” You just chuckled, and ruffled his hair, another thing you learned he disliked.

“You better get going now. School’s about to start!” You gently grabbed his shoulders, and led him through the gates. Daruizen glanced behind him as he walked. You waved him goodbye. He did a small wave back, before facing forward again.

You watched him until he disappeared into the school. Then, you began your journey home. Daruizen still has so much to learn, but you’re sure he’ll do just fine academically. You couldn’t wait to hear about his day when he got home. But that was quite a while away. So you went home, and awaited your “little brother’s” return.

Wake Up with Healin' Good♡PreCure Alarm Clock's Cute Character Voices

    Kodansha has announced that the next April 2020 issue of its kid's magazine Tanoshii Youchien (literally means Pleasant Kindergarten) to be released on February 29 will come with a special alarm clock including original messages newly recorded by the three PreCure girls from the ongoing 17th TV series Healin' Good♡PreCure.

  The magazine was launched in November 1956 and its target readers are female infants in the age of 4 to 6. It has been known for its gorgeous bonus items and started offering the PreCure alarm clocks since 2018. The upcoming issue also includes a special interview with the three main PreCure voice actresses.

  The Healin' Good♡PreCure alarm clock features six morning-call messages and six cheering messages from Cure Grace (CV: Aoi Yuuki), Cure Fontaine (Natsu Yorita), and Cure Sparkle (Hitori Kono). You can check out sample voices in a CM below.
