I posted the fic I bound for the Renegade exchange, and now I get to post about the books (s!! plural!) I received from my gifter, @gargoyleandgremlinpress.

The first surprise came when I opened the package and there were TWO books inside! An embarrassment of riches! Fitting it came a few days after my birthday.

The first one I unwrapped (yes, they were wrapped in beautiful paper. I did not wrap the book I sent, but I suppose, in my defense, I did make a cloth zipper pouch for it.) and was ecstatic to see that it was a copy of Strike Anywhere by @madlori.

This is a fantastic and 🔥🔥🔥 Schitt’s Creek firefighter AU fic. I highly recommend. One of the reasons I put it on my wishlist is because it lent itself to so many cool graphics. And my gifter clearly felt the same way. LOOK AT THIS.

Are you kidding me?!? The cover is stunning. And did you see the speckled edges? And the chapter headers! The dividers! It’s just perfect. Those endpapers! R.I.P. me.

But that wasn’t all! Because I am an egomaniac, I also listed one of my own fics, a Schitt’s Creek Bridget Jones’s Diary AU. (You know what is cute? My author’s note talks about how proud I was to finally write a long fic. Friends, it’s 17k.)

This one was made into the most adorable quarto, and again, the design is perfectly matched to the fic.

Are you dead yet? Because I am.

This is is the first time I've seen sewn endbands in person and I am determined now to learn how to make them.

It was so fun to participate in this exchange, and boy, did I get lucky! (Also, funny aside, my gifter has actually seen something I bound in person, as I’d sent a bound copy of a fic to one of their IRL friends! What a small world, eh?!)

Firefly’s Movie Challenge

I wanted to host another challenge and I hope this idea gives you some inspiration for your creative minds! If not, it’s a list of films that you could watch too.

Basically, create gifs, moodboards, artwork, fanfiction - based on the movies I have listed below. Use a quote, music from the soundtrack, an image, a plotline, a scene… it could be the theme for headers or icons - whatever it is, let your creative juices flow! If you would like a specific prompt, then I’m more than happy to give you one based on the film you choose.

Just to clarify, here’s an example using the Disney film - Hercules. You could do something based on Phil’s dialogue “Dreams are for rookies!” or something based on Meg’s I Won’t Say I’m in Love song, you could create a moodboard based on one of the scenes using your characters.

Deadline to have your works included in the masterpost is 31st August 2021.

The humour! It‘s the funniest thing I’ve read in a while. Draco is hysterical, paranoid, funny, self-absorbed, and over-all amazing. The dark side is actually the fun-side, full of stupid morons who are basically a joke.

The actual story! Please remember it’s crack, as tagged by the author. So, it’s plenty of misunderstanding, stupid problems of stupid teenagers, absurd things, but it’s all just too golden not to read it. Lucius, Narcissa, Voldemort... they’re all campy and fun.

Draco!!! It’s just IT. I could see Draco filling his diary with silly entries, illogical thoughts, completely self centered. I tried to find the cutest font for the header because that’s how I could picture his neat writing while his craziness spread on the pages😂😂.

But why the motorbike? Cause there’s a super sweet scene towards the end with it, because YES between the crack and the madness, it’s all sickeningly sweet too. 💖 if you like silly and illogical fics (like Dragon Tamer) please consider giving this a chance.

Nestled on its site, surrounded by dense vegetation preserving the house’s privacy, La Luge integrates a private spa which occupies almost a third of the useable area, adding on to the traditional countryside living spaces.

Thanks to its simplicity, restraint and refinement, the project embodies the architect’s attempt to capture the essence of cottage life – a wooden home designed for vacations and enabling true communion with nature.

The lower volume nestles into the landscape so that it is barely visible as one first approaches the house.

The house is perched on a sizeable outcrop of granite bedrock, giving it a commanding yet intimate view of the lake and Mont Tremblant, on the other side.

We see alleys as a new place for community and dwelling. This project offers an opportunity to save one of Calgary’s heritage houses and to build an affordable, compact living space in the inner city.

But one of the greatest things about Architecture is having lots of constraints. The more constraints, the more inventive you have to be. The site drops steeply from the road, almost a 25 ft sheer drop down to a flat site, with retaining walls below.
