God I'm a sucker for characters who are so utterly loyal to someone that they're completely unhinged. Characters who have no moral compass except their overwhelming devotion to whoever they've chosen to listen to. That's the good shit

For personal silliness, the headcanon of Durge being a reincarnation of Charname is funny to me, because most of my Charnames grew up as LE/LN self-appointed librarians in Faerûn's biggest library and will violently kneecap you if you don't return your godsdammed books on time.
And then Durge's temple - and I'm attributing this rule to their reign - has a lending library which is very insistent that you return the books on time...
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose...
#Alternatively Charname has had an influence on Bhaal's psyche and now he's just very insistent on library etiquette.#Ulraunt doesn't know what he's missing: my murderbabies are the best archivists and librarians he could hope for#(They fine you more if you get your blood on the books)#sillyness#babbling#playthrough shenanigans#/durge#/charname#OCs#Vel#Solath#Ashalue

The old man heaved a tired sigh. The glow from his lantern glinted off his spectacles, concealing his eyes from view. He murmured a stream of unintelligible words under his breath as he waved his hand through the air in a placid but firm gesture. The mist dissipated in an instant. The attic, in all its archival glory, littered with books and papers and spent inkwells, was visible to the lost girl once more. With that, the apparent Rabbi set about taking stock of the young lady’s ailments. Leaning over her, he murmured something to Guard, who gingerly knelt once again, laying She Who Is Nobody onto the wooden floor, one hand supporting her between the shoulder blades. The old man removed his glasses and smiled at her, kneeling down such that he was eye level with her. He kept his distance, not wanting to alarm her any further than the others had already done a fine job of doing. Her heartbeat was deafening. That even he could hear it spoke volumes. The old man was no vampire, baruch HaShem, but he heard it all the same. This was a definite problem. “Hello, little one,” the old man whispered. “You’ve had a terrible night, haven’t you?”

Sometimes I wonder why I love Grimm so much.
And then I see Nick take out two reapers and send their heads to their boss and I'm like...

Fynn took over this interaction and I had nothin to do with it. My boy is...so fuckin touch-starved.
Look at his big ol' "oh no, my dream friend is sad" eyes. (Insight: Beneath the resilient veneer, a touch of fragility. He needs comfort.)
Fynn is catching feelings for every man who says a single kind word to him. Baby. Baby boy. My little murderbaby.
Had a bit of a crisis after this wondering if this meant he'd fuck the squid in act 3. Decided that, in canon? No. He'll be with Astarion (and maybe Halsin by that point too), and while Fynn def has feelings for him, he would absolutely insist on discussing it with his other partners first. Post-canon if they meet up again and hash it out a bit? Definitely. His elf lovers can watch too. Or join.
Which also made me realize that Fynn is absolutely letting the Emperor eat Orpheus. That's his friend. Weird squid friend, but still. Sorry Lae'zel.

1, 2, and 3! for the durgetash asks :> (for all your durges)
hehe tysm for the asks!! answering these for anyone who’d like to know more abt my murderbabies >:)
1. What’s durges creation myth? Not the ‘and then there was a gore baby’. Give me the details, what did Bhaal actually do for Durge to torment Toril in a few years?
ill be honest i havent thought about this one enough to provide an actual answer so im gonna update this post once i’ve figured it out! 😭
2. Did Bhaal always have a plan for Durge to just eradicate all life or did he have a different plan before his death and revival? What exactly did the lord of murder have in mind when creating that particular spawn?
i’m not sure about cerys and saber tbh but with cassius i think bhaal’s goal was to just have like. a clone/avatar of himself on toril, someone unapologetically murderous and hedonistic and he actually achieved that for a while!! cassius was everything father dearest needed him to be, “the purest bhaalspawn there ever was”. that was until gort came along ofc :) gortash nurtured the ‘tumor’ that was cassius’ own personhood, showing him he need not do everything in his father’s name - he can be his own person, which in turn caused cassius’ fall from grace
3. Was kid Durge a usual child before the Urge awakened, or were there some signs indicating something was off about the kid? How did the environment react to them?
cassius — i’d say out all 3 of my durges cassius would probably take the crown for having the strongest “what the fuck is that thing” vibes lmaoo 😭 even if he didn’t look that much different from a regular tiefling (atleast to the dwarves’ knowledge) he definitely looked like an outcast in his foster family, and acted like one too. he lacked the tight-knit familial bonds that his dwarven foster parents and sister had, and really struggled with things like empathy, selfishness and emotional control. essentially it was like a (cannibalistic) cuckoo bird situation, they took care of this strange tiefling child that someone (sceleritas) dropped on their doorstep one day until he got so unsatiable he killed & ate all of them :,)
cerys — truth be told cerys was already a very impulsive, chaotic child so it would be kind of difficult to tell which parts of her behavior were influenced by bhaal and which were just cerys being cerys. her caretakers hoped she would grow out of it eventually - she wasn’t a bad kid, after all, just a little.. odd :) however, as she got older, her then-harmless antics grew into more alarming stuff, like sleepwalking towards knives, having recurring night terrors, hurting small animals for shits n giggles and so on. it also probably didnt help that she didn’t have the typical coloration of a tiefling, marking her as the black sheep in her community
saber — personality-wise saber was a pretty normal kid for the most part (if a little quiet/withdrawn, but that’s just what she’s like) so there was nothing too out of the ordinary regarding her behavior, but her looks did kind of set her apart from other drow children; saber doesn’t have the dainty, cat-like features typical for an elf, and seemed to loom over other children her age (which hasnt changed, she still towers over most people) so anyone but especially other, actual elves could sense there was something Off yet were unable to put their finger on exactly what it was abt her that creeped them out

Okay, finished TBB series finale and spoilery talk behind the cut.
I'm kinda lowkey sad they didn't bring Tech back in some way but I understand why they did it from a narrative standpoint and HOLY SHIT the emotional impact seeing his shattered goggles as Omega was leaving home really sucker punched me. So, I'll give you that point, Felony.
I'm refusing to acknowledge Scorch is dead. NOPE. Clone Commando's have katarn armor and he completely survived being shot in the chest four times and then falling hundreds of feet to the foliage.
He ends up falling into a lake, pulls himself to shore and is discovered by the Imps and given treatment only to be rescued by his squad afterwards. That's the real canon ending. La. La. La. La. La.
Honestly, it wasn't even Scorch, they murdered my murderbaby and I'm so grumpy about it. You can't just use his colors and then completely wipe out his ENTIRE FUCKING PERSONALITY.
So yeah, I refuse.
Riyo is STILL alive and doing well and is helping rescue clones because she is the GOAT. This makes me so happy. I also game away lowkey shipping Emery and Echo?
Uhhh all in all this season has been mostly okay. NGL TBB has always been kinda mid in my opinion. I am glad we got a REAL ending for TBB and ugh Hunter telling Omega she's their kid really tugged on my heartstrings.
I love the idea Wrecker/Crosshair/Hunter co-parenting Omega.
I am however freaking the fuck out over her becoming a Rebel pilot considering their average life expectancy. LOL
It DOES feel like bait for maybe a new project maybe? Like I would absolutely die and be sent to another plane of existence for an active Rebellion era project, especially one that is centered around the pilots because GIVE ME MY FAVORITE CORELLIAN SON WEDGE ANTILLES RIGHT NOW.
This would also give us a chance to get some damn answers about the clones. How did Wolffe escape the Empire? How did he and Gregor and Rex end up living together on Seelos.
What happened with Cody and WHY DID REX CALL OUT FOR HIM IN THAT ONE EPISODE. -slams pots and pans-
I have more questions than answers than when this show started. L M A O
brb gonna cry at the thought this might be the last real clone content we get in SW.
#el watches#the bad batch#the bad batch season 3 spoilers#tbb season 3 spoilers#where is cody? is he safe? is he alright?

rook I DO want it out there that MY personal canon tim (and cass and kind of damian) have their opinion on jason solidly in the "he’s family-in-law and also an ally (when/if he’s behaving) but i really would rather he wasn’t because of personal vendettas" territory but i support your agenda so much because it makes sense... it could have been how their relationship was headed pre-n52 when they took the damn coward's route
oh i agree 100% on damian and cass honestly (and i feel like cass's opinion would also sway tim. he loves his sister) and i do see where ur coming from... especially for the bit. but also because like. the inherent drama of most of the family just not wanting him closer than he needs to be is interesting for both interpersonal drama and also bc like. im sorry but part of what makes jason interesting to me is how tragically stuck in hes gotten himself. he cant mend these bonds, he wont let himself and he makes it worse even if he wants things fixed
to me personally tim would start solidly in camp "fuck this guy except when we have to be co-workers" but doesnt have as Much personal stake in keeping jason at an arms length but they could! could. get something closer to siblinghood in the event that dc's writers also handle jason well! which they do not. tim having a sense of "needing" to "handle" jason because hes willing to get close, can still talk back even when jasons being a dick, and isnt compromised too much by having Known jason like bruce/dick/babs.... could be interesting! considering the history they DO have!!
i find tim's willingness to bend (or let get bent) rules depending on how they line up with his Head Rules and personal wants interesting. NOT saying hes murder-y or would condone anything jason fucking does (im tired of murderbaby fanon tim) (so much of me finding potential in those two is the fact that ive sort of just taken jason out of whatever the fuck dc is doing. hes mine now) but i feel like tim would have the ability to eventually find SOME common ground. stick those guys in a situation. let them go thru the EFFORT of becoming closer (whether they want to or its all circumstantial!) instead of just................................. saying theyre close now
#i simply do not look at n52 i cant stand to look at her .........................#but no dw ik ur stance on jason<3 i see you i agree with you#as an enjoyer of both of their characters i wish there was so much more nuance bc i hate that im annoyed by them in current canon + fanon#asks#ickarusfalls#rus 🐻

The games never really following the sourcebook lore becomes slightly easier for me if I breathe deeply and take the Legend of Zelda approach to game canon: the games are retellings of the legends of these stories and thus the details get murky as they pass from bard to bard. Blame Volo for 99% of it, he's notoriously unreliable.
Some bard telling the story in an alehouse in Tethyr who's never been the Heartlands in their life: 'And then the party trekked Westwards through the mountains towards the Grey Harbour.'
A patron who's actually been north: '...but the Fields of the Dead are grasslands though. There are no mountains-'
'It's called artistic license, now shut up.'
Retellings of the events of BG2 feature the demigod queen of the elves of the Wealdath.
Meanwhile in reality the BG3 party actually did travel through endless swathes of grassland, presumably following the Chionthar westwards. And the green elves start laughing/rolling their eyes because what romanticised N'Quess drivel is this that they think they've got a monarch hidden in there? Some start sarcastically calling Rhothomir 'your majesty' or 'Queen Ellesime.' The Sy'Tel'Quessir don't do coronals anymore, at best they've got the Moonflower dynasty over in Evermeet (theoretically) ruling all elves before Amlaruil vanished, anyway. Bards never do their godsdamn research.
Also, for personal reasons, Durge being 'normal' is just propaganda - my murderbaby has been working very hard threatening a lot of bards to make sure Bhaalspawn hunting stays at a minimum.

(Muahahaha this is going to be extra juicy)
Okay so Danny adopting Robin and immediately leaving him to just keep haunting the night and being a vigilante does immediately put him in literally the exact situation Bruce is in, but worse because he’s not just a ward
The argument isn’t “does the recent orphan think you’re his dad”, it’s “you’re not taking care of your kids”
(Because yeah, Dick that young? Recently watched his real parents die, pretty sure he was a ward because Dick violently protested adoption)
Another fun thing about Dick that young: Bruce didn’t want him to be a vigilante either
Dick was breaking out of anywhere he was put with murder in his heart and a frankly upsetting set of skills
So when this smartass “king of the dead” declares he can be a better dad, “adopts” Dick, and just… leaves him in an alley?
Well, back to the batcave and the next two weeks are all about researching Daniel Fenton and Danny Phantom from every angle
And for all Bruce is still smarting because he is goddamn trying to stop this terrifying little murderchild from chasing gang leaders bare handed… by the end of week 2 he’s a little hopeful
Because sure, Danny hasn’t actually done anything to stop Dick from running around kickflipping off buildings… but maybe he actually could
Superman can’t stop Dick Grayson from running around kickflipping off buildings
So Bruce sits down with indisputably the angriest and stabbiest of the Robins until Damian arrives with his own sword and kill list, and suggests that the next stage of the investigation should be Dick going to “investigate” Danny at his place (and see what exactly he thinks he’ll do better than Bruce)
Dick, feral mischief murdergoblin, agrees and makes his way to Danny’s the next day, claiming he had a fight with Bruce
Danny, who totally has been supervising Dick invisibly, makes him welcome, and they sit down to have a talk about why Dick wants to be a teen vigilante
Cuz sure, Danny was one too, he remembers what it was like! But he’s an adult now, and he reckons reassuring the murderbaby that he and Batman can handle everything will help Dick relax back into babyhood
He is not expecting Dick to demand the head of the man who killed his parents
Technically it’s easier than “end all crime in Gotham”, which is Bruce’s mission, buuuuuut murder is not the same as therapy
Danny calls Jazz to talk to the murderbaby
He also asks Dick not to go out Robin-ing that night
(Mostly planning to take Dick out on baby training run the next day if the kid really wants to keep being a vigilante until he can become a murderer)
Dick stares at him
Dick agrees
Dick waits 3 minutes after Danny turns his back and runs off to punch more bad guys because he craves violence
Cue the most stressful 6 weeks of Danny’s life trying to keep Dick alive while Dick is the least helpful possible to that goal
This kid is fully human but you’ve gotta convince him of that, he’s already more comfortable in free-fall than on the ground
Danny isn’t even actually trying to stop him from patrolling, he just wants to be sure Dick doesn’t do it alone but until he communicates that Dick is gonna keep sneaking off and even after he has, Dick is gonna run off alone to try and commit that murder cuuuuuz technically he and Bruce “broke up” so he doesn’t have to follow the bat code (according to Dick)
Danny and Bruce run into each other on the way into some supervillainous hide out to rescue the criminals from Dick and have the most awkward metaphorical elevator ride
Finally Danny sighs and shakes his head
Danny: Okay so I definitely underestimated this kid and I’m genuinely impressed you kept him alive
Bruce: hn *your apology is accepted and I am glad you see things my way*
Danny: living children are hard
Bruce: hn *you sound like my butlerdad*
Danny: oh word you’re Alfred’s boy? Neat, always wondered what happened to him
Anyway long story short Danny and Alfred get parent trapped by Dick and Ellie (they dated on some of Danny’s Adventures In Time and Danny stans a silver fox)
Bruce is mortally offended six weeks later when Danny cheerfully proclaims that he wins, since he has now successfully adopted Bruce
Bruce tries to adopt Ellie, who is immediately against it. She keeps throwing him off her trail and he keeps tracking her down. She's honestly concerned, and normally she would handle her problems by herself- but this is Batman.
So when Bruce gets a little too close and Ellie is just so tired... she calls for Danny.
"Mom!"
Cue college student, perpetually tired and overworked Danny "High King Phantom" Fenton appearing from the very shadows Batman normally does himself, seeing the situation and going off at this "clearly older man" chasing his daughter in the middle of the night.
Cue the most elaborate "stop trying to adopt my kid before I adopt yours" series of battles

The thing also is that Ed killing his pos dad isn't framed like... the typical heroic killing of evil?? I guess? It's implied the guy was walking around alone and drunk one night, and Ed got him from behind with a rope and strangled him. Which is valid! He was still a kid! In a "fair" fight he would have lost so it had to be planned (or at least, you know, he was looking for a chance and took it) for it to work but like. Killing someone who's attacking you or someone you care about in your attempt to defend yourself, in the heat of the moment, would probably have been a lot easier for Ed to internally justify without ending up thinking he's a monster. He seems to have a harder time facing up to the things he decides to do with a cool head. The way it actually played out says, to me, that he wanted his dad to stop and he made an active choice to stop him himself, which still fits into self-defense for me but I don't think it would for Ed? And this feeds into his trauma about killing directly and being a horrible monstrous person.
(Also in this situation. He didn't have any other choices that didn't involve running away and leaving his mom so. It's a horrible thing to have to do but it's still a horrible thing lol Ed my beloved girlboss murderbaby I could spend ten years dissecting how you work)
Hello! I meant to reply to this when you sent it because it was applicable to a current conversation (at the time, lol, which is here and here for those out of the loop), but then I got distracted. Which, yeah. Story of my life, really.
You absolutely nailed the other part of what I meant about the framing, yeah! It wasn't Ed's dad trying to kill him and Ed striking out and oops - killed him first! It was premeditated and skewed in Ed's favor - which it absolutely had to be, as you say!
Killing someone who's attacking you or someone you care about in your attempt to defend yourself, in the heat of the moment, would probably have been a lot easier for Ed to internally justify without ending up thinking he's a monster. He seems to have a harder time facing up to the things he decides to do with a cool head.
Oh yeah, oh yes, this, absolutely this, which is what's going to make season 2 a fucking trip for our Ed. (The more I think on it, the more I need Lucius to be dead (even if he comes back later, which I hope he does) for Ed's character development.)
The way it actually played out says, to me, that he wanted his dad to stop and he made an active choice to stop him himself, which still fits into self-defense for me but I don't think it would for Ed?
Yes. Absolutely. You can actually see in the flashback scene where his father hits his mother the moment where Ed swaps from fear and cringing to deciding this ends now. His face evens out, he lowers his arms, he's quiet and resolute. He makes his decision and he follows it through.
Relatedly, I'd love to know what happened next, actually. Did he bail and leave the body to be found and people to assume someone else killed him? Did he roll him into the ocean to be 'missing' forever? Did (does? Is she still alive, somewhere?) his mother know what he did? Did he get arrested? What happened after this point?
(Also in this situation. He didn't have any other choices that didn't involve running away and leaving his mom so. It's a horrible thing to have to do but it's still a horrible thing lol Ed my beloved girlboss murderbaby I could spend ten years dissecting how you work)
Oh yeah! Absolutely. This was his only real choice if he wanted the abuse to stop!
Thanks so much for the message, nonnie!

6 and 9 from the most recent durge asks? For all three obviously >:3c
AHH tysm for the ask :)) i had lots of fun thinking about the answers hehe <3 (answering these asks for anyone interested in my murderbabies)
6. How did they actually learn their craft/class? Was it before or after becoming Bhaal’s chosen? Did they study it under someone? Did they have a natural talent?
cerys — well, she’s a rogue/circle of the moon druid multiclass, so she learned to steal & blend into the crowd as a child out on the streets, while her druidic powers were a natural talent – she first discovered them when she got lost in the forest as a little kid, and made her way back home with the help of a bird :) afterwards, she’d go on to experiment with her powers and learn spells intuitively, the way a sorcerer would. she lost touch with her druidic magic after getting tadpoled however, and only recovered it with the guidance of halsin & jaheira, who both felt a spark of it within her, despite her firm insistence otherwise.
cassius — cassius is an assassin rogue with a few levels of fighter, so, like cerys, he first learned to steal as a poor kid in the streets of baldurs gate and then honed those skills at the temple of bhaal, where orin, then excited to have a sibling to share her talents with, taught him the precise, murderous art of being a rogue. sarevok, on the other hand, through relentless training (that definitely wasn’t intended to just kill him) taught him endurance and spread his fighting horizons to duelling, not just ambush from the shadows.
saber — saber, upon hearing the whispers of bhaal & (regrettably) killing her foster family in the underdark as a teen, ran away from home and began to wander upside, pursuing less-travelled paths at the edge of wilderness until she stumbled upon a monastery. there, seeking to find balance within herself and a way to control these urges, saber became a way of the shadow monk, before, of course, slaughtering the entire place :) finally giving in, saber let her instincts lead her to the temple of bhaal in baldur’s gate, but felt no need to change her class, since her hands proved to be a useful enough weapon.
9. Bhaalists are surprisingly skilled with a wide range of weapons. Which one was your Durge’s favourite? Did they use it often or did they use something else for their ‘regular’ schedule?
cassius — he prefers using his body as a weapon, actually! even when not transformed, cassius’ tail resembles that of a slayer’s, which is spiked and pretty heavy, so it packs quite the punch! and his teeth & claws of course, but if none of those are an option he prefers daggers or flails, depending on if the goal is to murder someone or just torture them.
cerys — cerys prefers light, one-handed weapons like daggers and sickles so that she can have one in each hand and also really, really likes enchanted/magic weapons (shiny... 👁️👁️). huge bonus if they’re engraved or have a nice shape like bloodthirst or stillmaker, she enjoys anything with a unique design/personalized (gortash will use this information for evil). unlike cassius, cerys will only lash out with her claws & teeth if given no other choice, or if possessed by the urge.
saber — as a monk, she mostly fights with her fists but she’ll use a longsword or a spear ocassionally! saber likes a weapon that will allow her to keep a fair distance between her and the victim/enemy, so up-close and personal weapons like daggers are not her favourite.
