i used to answer every single comment i got, honestly, unless it came by years after i posted it-- the only reason i dont as much anymore is because it gets REALLY overwhelming for me to respond to everyone after the initial barrage 😅😅 the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak etc etc. but i do read every comment and appreciate them SO SO MUCH, and whenever i find one particularly moving or want to just reassure people im still working on something i'll respond to those :]

not counting the wips that just never got finished and left off before their main shit could resolve, id say at times so self destructive (BNHA)-- i mean i LITERALLY ended it with izuku potentially dying 😭😭😭😭

tbh i dont think i write happy endings so much as i write hopeful, bittersweet, or open-ended ones-- i tend to like catharsis more than fluff when it comes down to it. but out of my fluff fics i think honey it's starting to storm (HC) is one of the genuinely sweetest ive written. my runner-ups on that would probably be when the smoke does finally pass (TMA) and or we could just have conversation (MSA) :]

Do you write crossovers?

not typically, and ive never published any, but i am definitely not immune to them 😂😂😂😂 i think my most niche crossover ive actually written (never to see the light of day) was a Nine Lives of Chloe King and Supernatural fic that was the definition of self-indulgent rot. only a little less niche than that was a Mortal Instruments and Supernatural crossover (theres a running theme here lol) lying in snippets on an ancient google doc in my oldest gmail acct. reread that one recently and its shockingly coherent for being written in like. 2016. id even call it decent (though theres a lot id change up if i were writing it now)

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

idk if it'd be considered hate but once i wrote a fic inspired by someone else's when i was very new to ao3, let them know (i didnt know about the "inspired by" option back then), and they got mad at me in my comments section because in their words, "its better than mine" 😭😭😭😭💥💥💥💥💥💥

like my pal karliahs im gonna rip these from the comments ive received 😅😅😅 but id definitely say imagery is my strongest skill!! i have a very strong imagination, and tend to see fic scenes as movie scenes in my head which i then transcribe into written format. id like to say im also really skilled at characterization and realistic dialogue that captures character voices very well!! and frankly i just love emotional realism so much i cant NOT write it, its always leaking into everything i do

What are your writing weaknesses?

i tend to get a little too funky and abstract with my descriptions sometimes-- that can work for some scenes, but grounding everything so that it feels more real and makes actual sense to the reader is something i often have to do on the second, third, and final passes

also to every person who has to crack open a thesaurus to understand what i write, i am so fucking sorry😭💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

no thoughts beyond if its not a language you're proficient in you should probably get that checked over by a native speaker, just in case :P

Coming back to tell you how much I love that little comic with the Chosen Hero and the Hero of Men. There's no dialogue, but it still has a strong sense of sadness and hope. And the parallels between the two are fantastic, I really wish Nintendo gave us more information about what happened between Skyward Sword and Minish Cap because now I'm really thinking about it and how whatever happened had to be pretty scary if the Hero of Men decided it was in everyone's best interest for him to yoink the Chosen Hero's sacred sword from its temple.

All those words to say your art is wonderful and I'm thinking about it and the piece of LoZ lore it represents. ❤️

Ohhhh my go yesssss I would give my life to know more about the hero of men,,, its literally crazy to me that there’s a link that’s just. There. No game no story no nothing. WHO IS THAT TELL ME?? Thinking about who he could’ve been is one of the joys of life but it tends to feel more like writing an OC than expanding on known lore, bc be barely have any,,,

Actually, Ill use this to ramble about what I do tend to think for him here, hope that’s okay!!

I love love love that u said that what was happening during the hero of men’s time had to be pretty scary, bc YEAH. To pull the sword of the first hero and first king of Hyrule (^.^) who probably would kill to not have fi be woken up is CRAZYYYY,,, either he’s oblivious or in a really bad situation,,, What is known about him leaves to believe that he was a knight tho, and they 100% knew about fis resting ground,, It is said that the world was about to be swallowed by evil, which makes me think Botw final cutscene or sksw final girahim type severity of monster floods. So I think hom (ill refer to the hero of men like this for now) link probably saw getting the sacred, legendary master sword as his only chance at saving hyrule.

Idk if he would’ve know himself to be the legendary hero reborn due to triforce mark, maybe he just stumbled across it in an attempt to hide some injured knights in the temple of hylia,,,, Side note on the temple of hylia, love the abandoned look in the comic but it doesn’t really make sense, does it? Bc why would sksw Link want fis resting place to not be well kept? Would he visit before his passing?

Anyway, he takes the sword defeats the monster hoards and gives hyrule a brief moment of safety. He’s made into a high ranking knight or maybe head of the knights (he’s probably rather young still, as that seems to be a theme for the chosen hero and priestess, so maybe late teens, and before having the master sword he was a knight in training?) and then, when the picori/minish come down to earth (i dunno from where, was that ever said? Just from the skies i thiinkkk,,,) he gets the picori blade and I think the light force from them. It’s similar use does bring up the question why hom link would use the picori blade over the master sword,, maybe because its a gift and the master sword is like this sacred sword meant to rest and that got him feeling bad hahaha,, Hom link trapped the monsters rather than killing them but I can’t remember if the trapped them in the sword or the chest or somewhere else hmm,,, the sword later turns into the four sword right? (I’m so sorry im too lazy rn to do research 😭) I don’t think hom link would’ve been able to use it as this tho, i think he never got it to a point like this, just used it to save the world once and then gave it away for the contest ^^ In one of the stained glass the sword he gets DOES look like the four sword but i am going to ignore that bc I think i can.

Also, for reasons that I can’t (don’t want to) talk about rn I personally would change it being the 50th anniversary of the Picori Festival instead of the 100th ^.^ also I think hom link would stay a close friend to the royal family partially to protect the holder of the light force which was sealed into his Zelda i think and passed down to her children and their children yk,, and don’t tell anyone I said this but he is alive during minish cap and ezlo was one of the minish that gave him the blade during the Force era ;)

I also think the minish weren’t really ever introduced to the public but instead kept in strict contact to the royal family and those they trusted, which is why during mc basically no one knows about them, and those that once did are already fairly old or dead.

things i’ve noticed about HSR characters bc it literally brings me unprecedented amounts of joy

part three: Mr. Immortal Edgelord himself ✨Blade✨

Robin coming soon :D also i don't have Blade as a character and i have not met him in game so most of these came from youtube and his index [very sorry for the low quality of some images!]

i love his one random cowlick strand of hair- + his confused expression being closer to disgust and gentle expression being genuinely gentle. i love it, i love the range they gave him considering his archetype

during his first idle animation, Blade has a bandage wrapped around his sword. And you can see he has bandages wrapped around his chest from the gap in his neckline

and from his sixth eidolon, well, we can see why. His eidolon titles are so hauntingly tragic too, oh my gosh -> the more i look at his character design and his behaviors, the more i really love the simplicity of it all i've talked about this more in a previous post- but all of the Stellaron Hunters have symbolic names. Blade's own alias is a symbol of justice! [post in question]

Blade is not one of the more decorated characters in HSR, but honestly i think that's a good thing considering how complex his lore is. The gold decal on his coat is half a spider lily, the clasps are eyes [they could also resemble spider lily buds, but it's stretch] -> He has matching jade clasps with Dan Heng :D and when you combine them they make up the emblem on his back!

honestly, the emblem being surrounded by a knotted and crisscrossing red ribbon is a fantastic symbol of how these two are tied together in their fates

Spider lilies really are the crux of Blade's design, especially in his attacks, which makes a lot of sense considering their symbolism in a non-final death. Rebirth, transformation, reincarnation, etc

Hoyoverse really put a lot of thought into the floriography of this game. Bc- where genshin has a very heavy focus on star symbolism, each character in hsr has a specific flower- or plant- attached to their theme

ok- this one doesn't have to do with Blade's design at all, but it does tie in with your HC for the Road -> this is a mara struck foe, we all know this, but specifically i mean the design- the ginkgo leaves growing out of them [gingko leaves are a symbol of peace and longevity- and hope in the face of despair]

Blade is also mara struck [again- we all know this] so.... without further ado~

HC for the Road: Blade sprouts spider lilies in the spots where his bandages cover and that adds to the reason he wears them -> ok, imagine Silver Wolf and Firefly [bc let's be real, he's a girl dad] sitting against his sides as he's changing his bandages- and imagine those lilies sprouting up and he kinda stiffens bc he doesn't know how his daughters coworkers are going to react

but these two are star struck [pun intended] they've got a million and two questions, they're holding onto Blade's wrist and arm- Silver Wolf even puts down her console. And Blade relaxes

She doesn't mind the rain, she likes the cooler weather and the atmosphere, she doesn't like getting WET though, she's not one to run around in the rain without her raincoat and booties and umbrella! She is also not a huge fan of the sound of thunder, should there be any...she knooowssss its not gonna hurt her. but its so loud :( She's come to enjoy rain even more with Ruse's reaction, which is nothing short of exhilarated

Cradle has learned the hard way to not to listen to people blindly, they do not take other people's advice or opinions to heart in the slightest. It will form its own judgment and decide what to do! A life of being underestimated and working in the haggling business will do that. Cradle does take any notes from her tenants to heart though- truly its less like Cradle is just a landlord (despite them calling themselves that) and its more of a rehabilitation center if i'm honest. so cradle pays close attention to what their gaggle of people need, and if they want Cradle to change something, they may be more inclined begrudgingly

💽 "Do you collect anything? Why?" Cradle has a huge collection of weird magical weapons and objects, which just tend to crop up in Waffle Fries for various reasons- regardless, Cradle just has a huge fixation on gathering as many as possible and using them to trade-up for increasingly powerful ones. why exactly their place looks like a super villain lair?? cradle just thinks they're neat. he has very little intention to use most of them, but does enjoy playing with some of his toys

cradle also has their friendgroup of weird little freaky people, it just hat keeps getting bigger. and then taking care of them in their big complex, cradle has quite a few complexes if im honest

🏳️ "What will make you give up?"

Maiceo. ooughf. open and closes my mouth several times like im going to say something Ilieuuuuu....... I'm going to break Maiceo down like a crazy chain reaction, but I think if Ilieu was just there,,,,things could've gone faster. or completely utterly totally worse, but i want to hope things would've been better! Maiceo wants Ilieu so badly, the feelings are too intense for them to register Its gonna get worse before it gets better

🍳 💽 Esperanza 🍳 "Are you a good cook? Do you enjoy cooking? What's your favorite thing to cook?" Esperanza used to be a pretty good cook!! She was not so bad at following a recipe and making a little tasty delight :3 she really enjoyed it tbh like. one of her main hobbies, it kept her moving and active even when she couldn't be! and she could share it with friends and thats, like, her favorite thing (friends)

but since Esperanza went through a bit of ordeal, her head's a bit swimmy, and her body is even worse condition, so a lot of the little things she didn't really think about before (the mobility required for the kitchen and a lot of the tools, as well as a head clear enough to follow directions and remember steps and minute details) has been more difficult for her she's trying to work herself back up into cooking, especially since she missed food so much :< she liked wraps....burritos and sandwiches....things within other things.....very popular in Tuesday! she could make a crazy shredded chicken

I don't know if you've answered this already, but I had a couple questions about your MLP rewrite (big fan)!!! Why did you decide to make Shining Armor Rarity's brother instead of Twilight's and how does that affect your version of the Canterlot Wedding? Also, how does being a Crystal Pony work in your rewrite? I assume the Empire still disapeared for 1000 years but Rarity/Shining Armor/Sweetie Belle had an ancestor who escaped somehow?

basically it was for a fewww reasons, one being I liked twilight being more of a loner/only child, her entire thing was her not having friends and being very antisocial, but suddenly giving her “my big brother best friend forever’ just felt a bit odd to me is all? It’s cute asf don’t get me wrong! But twilight already had cadence as a plot tie in (being her babysitter (tho in mine I might change that dynamic in some way, maybe something to do w tias school instead idk I know I’d wanna go w something else/not so casual of a term for them?) so shining introduction being so sudden with no foreshadowing beforehand (see: another instance of a brother showing up with pharynx at least had an off handed line from thorax in threes a crowd, so he doesn’t suffer from the issue/didn’t have another character intro in his same ep lol) so ye shining just throws me off every rewatch, if cadence was the only new one I’d not be bugged by it ! but the fact they BOTH are introduced the same ep it just feels a bit odd is all, plus I wanna boost the bond of twilight and spikes adopted sibling relationship as well !! (So in mine I’d probably introduce shining or cadence Before the wedding, separately and THEN they’d have the wedding, rather than both thrown at us the same ep)

another reason was shining design looks nothing like their parents or twilight really minus his mane and star CM? And even his name being a knight pun more so than a star name (sure shining can be a star thing but it just doesn’t click in my brain) where as rarity is always swooning over princes/high class ponies it feels a bit more narratively fitting if she instead had a family member that was a knight idk rarity just gives more princess theming (ik twi is literally a princess but you get what I mean it’s like princess in the more traditional sense like a rich pretty damsel in distress saved by a knight/Prince Charming way, not so much the status part of it)

so uh tldr: I prefer only child twilight and his design and theme fits the Belle family more imo (tho ofc i could have changed his design like I’ve done w other characters but eh shrugs again it wasn’t just his design but more so it was instead bc of plot reasons/twilight tie ins for me)

as for them being crystal ponies— yes! The empire does still vanish, (minus cadence who was the only one to escape, I’ll talk more abt my empire lore when I finish refs for the crystal empire characters :3 (amore, snowdrop, hope, sombra, cadence, shining, and flurry)

RBUT your basically right on the money— I think that not ALL crystal ponies lived in the empire/that some moved other places, hence most likely the armor-belle family just happened to not live in the empire (probably ponyville seeing as rarity and sweetie are there we can assume shining is only in canterlot bc of his job) and so they passed down the crystal pony genes regardless of location

The wedding is quite different, as I instead play on the plot of chrysalis replacing *shinning*, seeing as cadence is the Princess of love and all (tho maybe if it took place in the empire she’d replace cadence bc she’d get love from the crystal ponies/cadences subjects, but thats not the case here. So she replaces shining so she can take the already very powerful love from cadence bc it would be even stronger when around him, gives her an advantage!!) plus I love toxic Yuri so there’s that too lol😭

this also means it would be more of an A and B plot with the twilight and cadence plot + rarity and shining plot, not sure if the ending would still have twilight in the cave or it would be rarity or both of them bc the thing is it’s way too iconic so I’m not fully sure just yet, but then again I can always just do my own thing with it so idk I’d need to brainstorm either with myself or with friends, if u have any ideas I’d love to hear lol bc it can kinda go a lot of ways tbh im always open for brainstorming <3

yes!! with several asterisks i'll get into in a minute. i try to respond to every comment i get because:

i genuinely really appreciate that anyone takes the time to tell me they liked a fic when they could just consume it and say nothing with 0 consequences, so i want to say thank you

some comments have a rly big impact on me - change the way i feel about stuff, contain phrases i remember for a really long time, make me cry, etc - and just like how if someone writes a fic that impacts me then i want to tell them, i want to tell people how much their comment mattered

i often only figure out why i did something or made certain choices in a fic until someone prompts me to talk about it. it's such a useful exercise for understanding my own work better

i genuinely adore rambling about my fics, it's arguably more fun than writing them in the first place

it's really nice getting to chat to commenters and get to know people!

bargaining chips i think. the funny thing about that series is that in some ways i think things would ultimately turn out better than in canon (there's a reason the 2nd fic has akechi promise to contact ren if he does survive, a thing that would have paid off in the 3rd fic i never finished). but as of bargaining chips it's very much...this is the POV of a person who thinks the only power they have left in the world is to hurt people

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

my usual ending is like bittersweet and/or hopeful, so for example i feel a lot of things about the cathertic (for me at least) endings for redux and something else to pretend and unwanted, but idk if they can exactly be called happy.

going to my pure silly fluff fics instead where we pretty much start happy and end happy: to work, to rest which ends with the gang being happy about stickers, or class pets which ends with class a getting three (3) cats

mannnn i just cannot care about romantic ships the way that seems to be so ubiquitous in fandom. even when i try and write romance it ends up as like ambigious tenderness or Friendship With Vibes. the few times i've even written kissing it's been just a build up to a kiss after which the fic immediately fades to black, which is really funny in retrospect like...buddy, is that because you stop caring about what's happening once the kissing starts?

i am fond of erasermic, jontim and shindeku, though i enjoy them as platonic dynamics pretty much the same amount

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

it mostly doesn't bother me to have tons of unfinished WIPs, i don't really put that expectation that everything i start will or should get finished/posted.

so the only one that genuinely bugs me is the third fic in seen and not heard, because i feel like i kind of promised it to people and then didn't deliver, and because it would have properly concluded a series i know a few people really connected with...and because the draft got to like 80% done but i could just never finish it off in a way i was happy with. maybe someday though

there's also a more recent bnha fic draft that i am really fond of in some ways, but i just could not take the discourse i think it would inspire. i might finish it just for me someday

What are your writing strengths?

cribbing all these from comments honestly but i think i'm pretty good at real-feeling emotional responses to situations. emotional realism, maybe? and writing introspection/people thinking and feeling things in general.

my characterisation gets complimented a fair bit, which is funny bc i think i actually take a lot of liberties with canon characters, but i guess i'm decent at couching those liberties in a way that makes it pass muster most of the time. like passing off a counterfeit watch as genuine

i'm somewhat good with grounding things in sensory detail, but that's one of those things i think i'll always be trying to get better at

What are your writing weaknesses?

i've never met a plot in my life and i don't want to. i also can't write longfic. in real-world terms i'm a short story writer and not a novelist - all those structural narrative things people do to make a long-form story work are just mystifying to me. part of that is just driven by what interests me though - i don't read a lot of plotty longfic either

i'm also still working on improving syntax and flow in my prose in general, but that's another one of those endless projects i think

What are your thoughts when people make fiction with c!primeboys as actually healthy brothers?

my favourite is definitely immortal primeboys. I’m still working on that when I am not being fucked over by adhd and chronic pain it’s just been very slow for the fic but I adore the au and want to finish it. i just find the whole psychology of being immortal with them really fun. they’ve developed into a vaguely mutual codependent mess bc from their perspective absolutely everything in life but each other changes so quick it’s nothing more than a brief distraction. which isn’t to say they’re not abusive they’re even more so bc several millennia of escalating abuse leads to some extremely fucked up places, it’s left c!tommy so traumatised the perspective of the townspeople is that he's shy because he’s that terrified of interacting with other people, but like in the actual definition of codependency where it’s all give and all take. c!tommy relies on c!dream for everything bc he’s been given zero independence for millennia bc he’s all c!dream has left and c!dream needs to have c!tommy rely on him bc he’s petrified of being alone and worries c!tommy would leave if he was allowed even the slightest bit of responsibility. it’s very much an exaggeration of the abusive dynamic, but in a very deliberate way both bc in universe the escalation has gone on for millennia and required some extremely traumatic black magic rituals to begin with, and out of universe to allow the exploration of abuse to be both unmissable by literally anyone while also not relying on typical narrative tropes to signal that (which are fine but i tend to avoid the archetypical depictions of abuse for c!prime for a reason)

most recent is the alternate ending au I started for Whumptober (it probably won’t be updated at all this October or even this year unfortunately bc health flare ups suck and I'm struggling with them recently but it’s all planned out and being worked on) bc I had Ideas on how to tie it into c!tommy soft epilogue bc it Does end with c!tommy safe and healing with c!tubbo and it has the start of people moving away from the smp (in this case, being c!Punz- him leaving is the impetus for c!dream to have such a bad breakdown he tries to run off with a captive c!tommy bc he feels betrayed by everyone else) and I think it’d be fun to tie in some foreshadowing and stuff within the fic. healing after struggling with being denied either kindness or freedom is a pretty major theme for the latter half of it, and I think it’d be cool to tie it in with that.

I don’t get c!prime being in a healthy friendship or sibling relationship bc they never were in canon tbh. like, c!dream is just kinda Like That. not even just with c!tommy like its just that he places strategic importance and a level of trust on him he's kind of terrifying manipulative and possessive in the context of everything and I’m tired of him being a fucking weirdo getting erased bc he’s like that throughout the entirety of the series it was originally a bit but it very quickly became Not That and it’s extremely funny he's an amoral little shit and i think that makes him a great character. when he get sadboy uwu'd not only does that lose the charm of c!dream being this cheerfully amoral asshole who's completely oblivious to that fact and thinks he’s putting on a facade of being a cold emotionless killer when he just looks like an extremely dorky cheerfully amoral asshole that i love it’s also like. it gives me the impression they’re stamping their perception of cc!dream onto him and i despise cc!dream for. many reasons but primarily the negative levels of safeguarding he had around younger ccs to the point he was “jokingly” acting creepy around them which like, I’m not going to say was malicious but also sure was extremely irresponsible and dangerous to the point i don’t think he should have a platform! Asksjssk I simply can’t do anything half-assedly😭😭 So when I end up responding to those asks it’s probably gonna be a whole ass character (and social) analysis 🧍‍♀️ Which is all fine and dandy but that also means I have to develop my fem skk ideas more bc, despite me being a lesbian myself, I’m not all that fond of genderbends. As in, I’m willing to read and write them, but I’m probably not going to be very passionate about them.

In terms of their relationship, I do think the main themes would stay the same, my main thing is the societal (specifically patriarchal) influences over their characters, because I feel like turning male characters into female characters has no purpose if you’re not going to take misogyny, and simply the differences between treatment, into account.

Which is mostly what I already started talking about in that answer. I never have those kinds of hyper-specific headcanons about anything because those always show themselves when I’m actually writing, I never feel the need to alter canon just for the sake of it. So I can think a lot about how their characters would change (specifically Dazai tbh) on an analysis standpoint, but I’m not touching character design or ‘scenarios’ with a ten foot pole.

But yeah, softening them just because they’re girls pisses me off too. The entire reason why I barely like any lesbian ships is because lesbian ships are rarely as toxic I want my ships to be 😢 Society’s need to both sexualize and infantilize women is 💞weird💞

I feel like this is one of my main problems with genderbending characters, actually. How do expressions of gender change? Because Chuuya in canon is very masculine, would that transfer to his female counterpart being masculine too, or is that part of the genderbending and she would be very feminine, instead? Perhaps in a bit of an unconventional way? What about Dazai? He is very feminine, and so if he remains feminine, considering his entire struggle with gender, that’s literally a paradox. Because fem Dazai being feminine would make her yearn for masculinity the same way canon Dazai yearns for femininity. But then that would make her be a lot more masculine… And then make her yearn for femininity….. And this is also relevant to her relationship with Chuuya. A big thing about them is the whole gender identity complications and parallels they have going on. But in this situation, their gender expressions reflect each other, because Chuuya would be Dazai’s kind of ‘totem’ of gender and how she is allowed to express herself. If Chuuya is more masculine, Dazai would feel safer expressing herself that way too, but if she’s more feminine, Dazai would be too. In both situations Dazai would yearn for expressions of the opposite gender because whatever version of them it is, they don’t understand the concept of gender and need a balance that society never really… Caters to.

And then whether Chuuya is Dazai’s one and only pillar of gender expression is entirely dependent on whether only the two of them get genderbent, or the whole BSD cast does. There are too many factors and they change basically… Everything drastically.

So this is just more of my whole thing about not being able to say something concrete unless I have a specific context. And why I’ve been putting off responding to those asks 😭 There are too many situations I have to take into account and that would basically end up being… Analyzing 6 versions of the same characters. And those versions are not even ones I particularly care about 😔

Anyway. Whining aside, live your truth 🙏 Also, my general stance on TS is the same as my stance on pretty much everything—do whatever you want and like what you want, but take some time to understand your reasoning and acknowledge the flaws of said thing. I only have a strong opinion on those TS fans that worship the ground she walks on and say she can do no wrong and claim that her music is sooo profound. The fact that her music is so generic caters to literally every person on the planet and their experiences in a way that makes them get really attached to her music, and especially so if you find her while in a vulnerable state. On the flip side, the actual inspiration of her music (that they, again, can’t get from the songs themselves because they’re mostly a whole bunch of nothing) is found through obsessing about her personal life to the point of parasocialism, which then gets them attached to her as a whole, not just her music.

And I feel like as a TS fan, you really need to understand that (and also that being a billionaire is inherently unethical and that her use of her private jet has contributed a SHIT TON to our planet’s pollution. While your average person is out here choking on paper straws). Otherwise I genuinely don’t care what people like. You just kind of need to be aware of the thing you like, you know?

As I’ve said, I personally think ‘folklore’ and ‘evermore’ are good and her music really thrives when she attempts to detach it from herself and tone down the whole parasocial scheme, as well as actually making her songs about something.

“Please picture me in the weeds before I learned civility” is genuinely a MASTERFUL lyric and I’ve been obsessed with it for a while. I think the fact that so many people want to label Leon/Ashley as canonically "sibling- coded" is because they feel threatened in the way they view other of Leon's relationships, they can tell Leon and Ashley have chemistry and they try to convince themselves that they have a familial bond going on (like Ellie/Joel) so that they can justify not shipping them and making people who ship it feel bad/weird.

Because nowadays so many people can't just dislike something, they have to make up a reason why it's morally wrong and unacceptable so that way they can bully people that think differently and feel like their own personal opinions are objective and right while everyone else is wrong smh. This is mostly the case with younger fans (tho a lot of people older than me does this too lmao) so that's why I don't really find it frustrating bc it's most likely they have limited real life experience. Plus they might not be that good at interpreting canon from contextual clues yet.

In my case though I think a lot of these people are actually doing the opposite tbh because to me it just shows that they recognize that Ashley's relationship with Leon is real and they can't even concede that they're friends in the canon because they know it could lead to something else if followed through in the story, they admit there's potential there subconsciously with how hard they try to make it seem otherwise with nonsense claims. It's like when insecure guys feel uncomfortable but try to seem tough by buying big trucks and having guns on them all the time lmao.

So, I've talked about this before -- about how the "sibling coded" or "problematic age gap" discourse is just modern-day fandom's way of slutshaming and engaging in casual misogyny in a societally acceptable way.

I'm pretty confident in saying that anyone in my generation who slaps "siblings" on Leon and Ashley are probably people who have another ship and have had it for a while and don't want Ashley getting in the way of it, tbh LMAO

Media illiteracy is a big factor in this. It's no secret to anyone that the US education system took a massive shit starting in the late aughts/early 2010s, and things like critical reading skills aren't being taught in schools anymore.

I graduated high school in 2007. Two years later, I went back to visit an old English teacher to get a letter of recommendation, and he was lamenting to me that he'd just given up. It wasn't worth trying to explain the deeper themes of Beowulf to kids who didn't care, because the only thing that mattered was getting them to pass standardized tests.

So, now, without an overt, explicit declaration of love or something visually concrete like a kiss, kids literally do not have the skills to parse through a text and pick out themes and tropes and use of symbolism and imagery. They were never taught how to do it.

But there's a more culture-based thing happening here, I think. It's this fucking mess of a cocktail of internalized misogyny paired with learned helplessness, social anxiety, intense sheltering possibly exacerbated by the pandemic shutdowns, peer pressure, and internet purity culture.

I think it's pretty safe to say that fandom is predominantly made up of women and teenage girls. That was true in the 60s in Star Trek fandom, it was true in my generation, and it's still true today. And what I've seen happening today is that young women are absolutely terrified of their own sexual agency -- because the internet keeps telling them that, if you're under 18, it is wrong and bad and unacceptable for you to engage with anything even remotely sexual and how dare you express your sexuality -- and you'd better not do it not just because it's wrong and bad, but also because you are GUARANTEED TO BE PREYED UPON IF YOU DO. SEX IS DANGEROUS ALL OF THE TIME AND YOU'RE LITERALLY TOO YOUNG AND TOO STUPID TO UNDERSTAND ANYTHING SO DON'T TRY TO EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. Because if you're 17 and he's 18, he's a pedophile!!!!!!!!

So, we've now basically turned an entire generation of young women into the same type of young women who created the BL genre in Japan. These are women who were too afraid to explore their sexuality on their own, and it felt safer to do it with two male characters, because it was always more "okay" for men to be sexual. This is happening here in the West, now.

Slash ships have always been a thing in the West, but not to the degree that they are today. In today's fandom, if you have an M/F ship at all, you are outnumbered by at least 3:1 -- because M/M just "feels" safer for a lot of the current generation.

So, I think young women look at the Remake portrayal of Ashley Graham, and they identify with her. A lot. They're probably around her age, and her personality is very relatable to the kind of girls who play video games. Ashley's clearly introverted, but she's a fast learner who just wants to help, and she's got a good heart and a weird, kind of awkward sense of humor.

And, not only do these girls identify with Ashley, they're probably thirsty as fuck for Leon.

But that's terrifying to them.

Because they have been taught to fear their own sexual agency. The idea that an attractive, traditionally masculine, older man would be romantically or sexually interested in them is immediately categorized in their brains as wrong and bad -- and they don't want to think of Leon in that way.

So... for them, it can't be romantic. It can't be sexual. But there's clearly something there, but Leon would never abuse or prey on anyone so... that bond must be a perfectly innocent familial affection. That's what it is. That's what it has to be, because anything else forces them to face the uncomfortable reality even young women like them go on dates and have sex -- and sometimes, it's with men like Leon.

So, they thirst over Leon at a safe distance through Luis, primarily. Or they self-indulge on reader fic, because that's so much easier to write off as "just a fantasy" and not a statement on who Leon actually is as a character.

And it's just kind of sad, man. It sucks to see this happen to an entire generation of young women.

That's why I don't really get mad when I see the "siblings" shit out in the wild. I just feel sad for those people -- because they can't just say "I don't like the ship." They're so insecure and neurotic that they have to think of a reason why the ship is literally impossible to ever happen so that they don't have to be worried about it.

One day, they'll finally suck a dick for themselves and learn that it's not that serious. It's really fuckin not. Dicks are stupid, and the boys that are attached to them are even dumber.

It's actually been really interesting for myself too because at my first readthrough I didn't think that much about kaladin (since I was too busy kissing the floor shallan walks on lol), I mainly dismissed my mixed feelings towards him due to the reluctant hero archetype he embodies that I don't really like. it's only after the end of wor (that fucking moash scene 😭) that I went slightly feral for his arc. *slaps his left ass cheek* this bad boy can fit so many parallels.

now I can actually pinpoint *why* Kal is my least favorite pov character (cuz I'm afraid that hasn't changed lol)! which is cool. the two weeks are actually because I'm listening to everything on Libby, and you can't really extend the stormlight books because they are so popular. with words of radiance for example (which I bought, bc for some reason that is the only book in the series that isn't available at my library??) I took about a month I think, so almost double that haha

but I thought it over and I'm probably gonna either make a free trial run at bookbeat or sth so I can listen to it with more calm or just straight up buy it as well. rushing through oathbringer specifically will probably be no good rip

I've actually recently discovered popcorn thrillers so I'm taking breaks from oathbringer by reading some relaxing *checks note* patricide and child kidnapping!

watching our good lord and savior Nika makes me think about how sick it is to have a devil fruit that allows for so much freedom!! SILLINESS is the core theme of one piece after all :)) i think fruits like luffy’s and katakuri’s are so intriguing bc how they manipulate it is really a reflection of the user’s souls. its still funny to me that when they fought, katakuri was just sort of dumbfounded by luffy’s moves. as similar as their devil fruits are, they obviously wield them very differently and its because of the difference in personalities. luffy literally drips freedom, chaos, and selfishness. he is The Sun. its such a stark contrast to katakuri, who is a lot more restricted, introverted, and so so selfless :,( my sweet boy. i would tattoo luffy and katakuri’s entire interaction on my body ITS SO IMPORTANT THAT THEY MET!! i like to think that katakuri’s fighting style changed a bit post-luffy. i bet he’s a little extra silly now <3 i just imagine him trying out a lil something crazy and his siblings giving him shit for it like eh that mid life crisis is really kicking in huh lol but long live sillies :P

massive agree, it's a huge huge reason why I wrote Maren as only becoming his partner post-defeat!

Luffy really changes his world in a way that he so desperately needed. the shell of a man he's carefully built around his soul to protect his family is cracked by luffy. and tbh, who else could? luffy is a true challenge for him and a reminder that he possesses his own interests beyond being the family watchdog and perfect protector/brother. katakuri genuinely enjoys being challenged and fighting is his greatest shown ability.

considering nika too--I just LOVE thinking about the fact that Katakuri is more than capable of something quite similar. he could be silly, bouncy, jump around on the world he molds into mochi. but he doesn't, he's stoic, he chases perfection and has no space for the silly. everything is a precise kill strike or a defensive maneuver to keep him from being seen laid upon his back. it really does attest to his different personality, and how that manifests in fighting style and devil fruit usage...given that devil fruits seem to have some mysterious secrets too, maybe part of that is the fruit itself.

I'm in the process of coming up with ideas on how katakuri's devil fruit awakening would've went and how it'd be different from luffy's. 🥺💗 possibly safe to assume mochi mochi no mi is NOT a zoan nor legendary like luffy's....

Okay I have overlooked this one I noticed just now. I'm going to talk about my growing passion for Ryder during the last eight months.

This one was the very first I took of him back in September, 18, 2022:

When I was taking this shot, I was not satisfied with him at first. I liked his all wearing black style concept I chose for him and I knew he was going to be named 'Ryder von Scharfenberg' (his name circled around in my head ever since I defined Vijay's name) but I had a hard time getting used to him. Yes, I had a lot of doubts about him. Here a few more from that shoot:

The main reason why I was uncertain about him at first may have been when I was in the character creator I first had an overall look on mind without a beard. I wanted yellow eyes for him at first (this mod, forth pic) which I did not get to work back then — my knowledge about using mods was all new and lacking, in general adding mods for him was not easy for me (today it's peanuts). This alone made me be a already a little frustrated because I was unable to give him that color bc I was too dumb to get it working.

I intended to use some longer hair with a sidecut at first for him as well and wanted different eye make up for him trying out a mod. It was one of Anrui's Visual Kei Parlor mods (think look 4 and 5). I do love V-kei a lot and for some reason I was picturing Ryder more in a dark V-Kei style at first, which did not work out either — I got the mod working but he looked super strange to me once I made the decision of his facial parts, so I decided to look for another hair mod and found Kala's Liam hair, that made him overall look more appealing.

Yet I was still not satisfied — so, I deleted the make up mod and went for complete vanilla eyebrows and make up. Lastly I added his eye cyberware (also vanilla) and decided for a beard. Once I gave him his beard I was even more content with him (I was used to have a beard bc of Vijay having one as well). And since that eye mod didn't work either I put back in the ones I used for Vijay and decided for those white glowing circles instead.

That is how Ry came to life how he looks now. Only thing I changed for him afterward was giving him another vanilla body skin (he's the only one without unique V rig), removing the 'stickers' via Halk's Sticker Yeeter mod from his mantis arms and added his sharky teeth by Anrui and a while later some pointy nails as well.

Then I went on taking pics and he still felt super strange to me. I explain it to myself that way: Ryder is the entire opposite of Vijay. V being all cute and smiling and then suddenly there was this dark themed dude I made a German looking at me so judgingly like I do too, I couldn't really cope with.

The result were some of those pics I still do like but would do them differently today (e.g. other FOV and lights + less saturated):

The more photos I took of him, and the more I developed him via tumblr asks and talking with others about him the more he grew onto me. It got so far that he was suddenly liked more than Vijay and literally stole the show (which made me a bit sad as well bc I thought V should receive the same love as Ry did).

Next big thing I started liking him more were the Konpeki Plaza pics I took in front of the red light. This was the time I started writing out Ry's backstory. It was also the first time I made him smile — ever since then I couldn't get out that smile of my head. When I look at him sometimes he's like a total 'Lausbub' to me. About to make some prank. I can't describe it. He suddenly gave off some vibe I felt that was fitting so damn good to him even though he's that dark guy who can stare so frightening at ya with his gaze that blood could freeze in your veins.

I just wanna smooch him asdxfcgvbhj is sometimes all I can think.

At this point he must have finally persuaded me. I love him to every tiny pixel and it's gotten worse since I wrote down his first two backstory parts. Hell, it got so worse I created another char just so he has someone he can love as well because it made me sad he was so lonely for half a year. Yes, Ry was the reason I created Thyjs. I still can't believe it. Thyjs would probably never exist if Ry did not grew so much onto me. Jeeez. So if you love Thyjs: thank Ryder for existing!

Literally every shot I did with him turned out better and better. Ryder for me is the most photogenic of all my four boys. I love when he's angry and bares his teeth, I love it even more when he gives a warm smile or any other stupid face he makes. everything suits him! (with Vijay, Jaysen and Thyjs it does not work that good).

I swear every new pic I take of him, it's like he plays more and more with the camera. Like he's gotten used to someone taking pics of him at some point — some kind of a warm-up. It truly feels like when I was taking pics of someone else in a cosplay, we didn't know each other, met at the next con, I took pics again, we somehow got mutuals and ended up taking more pics, and all was suddenly easy going. That is how it is with Ry each time.

I mean, these are my latest shots of him:

The beauty that radiates out of him and the way he looks into the camera (or not) has me marveling at him. I know it is me doing his posing, chosing his expression and where he should look at. Believe me, literally 20% of my pics I take are planned. 80% of the time it is just me wanting to take pretty blorbo pics not thinking about anything. I set Ry in pose and he magically looks at me like this. All I need to do is move the camera around him, maybe adjust the direction he should look at and that's it.
