two (?) three people commented that they find finney in kotn annoying and whiny and i think ts is so so funny (im not being sarcastic i genuinely love this) mostly bc i was worried i made the character one-dimensional and i love different takes on different characters. i got an ask on bruce being too passive, one on billy being selfish, like !! im geeked as fuck.
i do want to know how bruce is passive, finney is annoying, and how billy is selfish tho so i can reference it later so if yall can recall pls put it in the comments so i can reference it when characters argue!! bc i am biased n will not see it and none of the asks give me examples😭 /gen

I get emotional thinking about how his family would react to Bruce's change if he ever started working on himself, on improving his behavior. But the one I think about the most is Dick Grayson.
Alfred is the one who was there from the very beginning, but Dick Grayson is who arrived and made the biggest impact. He's the first kid who Bruce took in, the one who approached this man and became his first partner to fight by his side out in the night.
Dick was able to pull Bruce out of the darkness that consumed him. No matter how many times Bruce went back, Dick's presence was a constant reminder that there's not only shadows. That if Bruce pushes back, fights so he won't be dragged down, he will find light.
However, it was a cycle. Dick would get him out, but Bruce would go back, sooner or later. And repeat. And Dick realized this and knew he couldn't let that be his whole life. But despite the distance, it still affects Dick knowing he can't find a definite solution for Bruce.
So, seeing Bruce actually change, get better and seeing that last...it would lift the heaviest weight on Dick's shoulders, who's felt responsible for Bruce's emotions since the day he became Robin.
It's been implied to him that Bruce needs him, that he's who keeps him from falling. And Dick, despite not always feeling like he is enough, carries with that responsibility because, deep down, he also feels like he owes it to Bruce, who Dick has needed (still needs) present in his life, too.
Bruce getting better would be like being able to breath again, but it would be so suffocating too.
Dick would happy for Bruce, for the man who raised him. He'd be relieved that the hurt will stop, for both his father and those he's continuously pushed away. But then he'll be anxious, will it really last? How long until he can be sure? And he'll be scared, does he still need him, now? Does a Batman who's gotten help still need Dick Grayson Robin? Nightwing? And lurking in the back of his mind, there'd be anger. Why now? Why after all those years? Why not before? Was Dick not enough reason to change? Was he never worth this? And shame will drown those thoughts. It's selfish, to think that way. He should be happy. He wants to be happy. He is happy. But he is also mad. He's sad and he mourns the child who never saw this side of Bruce. And most of all, he loves. He loves Bruce too much to hate him for it. No matter how angry, no matter how hurt, he loves his father and he's grateful for him, for his efforts. And all he can do is smile and congratulate him because that's everything he feels he has the right to say.
And when all is said and done, Bruce will come to him and Dick will have to face the worst part of this change;
Apologies.
If Bruce has truly changed, then he would know there's more things than he can count with his fingers that he has to apologize to his son for. And out of everything else, this is what Dick Grayson fears the most.
Dick can take it, he can hear Bruce out, but he can't unpack all the pain he's been accumulating in front of his dad. He can't bring himself to say 'I forgive you' out loud despite having convinced himself long ago that it's alright.
Bruce doesn't didn't do apologies. Things happened and then went back to normal and Dick was okay with that. He forgave him, he did. So, Bruce doesn't need to apologize, he doesn't have to make him say it out loud. He can't tell him, but he's forgiven him long ago. Even if it hurt, even if he was still resentful sometimes, even if he wanted to yell at him for it, Dick could push it all down and forgive him. Bruce shouldn't apologize, shouldn't bring it up again because Dick isn't strong enough to keep it all bottled up if Bruce starts acknowledging it, if he confirms that Dick wasn't crazy for feeling wronged and hurt.
He can take it, but he really can't.
Just thinking about it drives me crazy because, out of everyone, Dick Grayson might be the kid who's been waiting for this the longest, and who thought he'd already given up the idea of his father finding a lasting happiness that would bring permanent change in him. And it would be just so overwhelming.

Part 7
Winter, 1983
Eddie couldn’t remember the last time he had argued with himself to this degree.
He knew it was probably strange that he did most of his thinking in the shower, but there was something about standing stationary as hot water pelted his back and shoulders that put him in an almost meditative state. His inner monologue lectured silently in his mind as his fingers worked sudsy shampoo through his wetted locks.
On the one hand, he had finally admitted to himself that he liked you- like, really liked you- and asked you out on a date for that reason. His heart was doing a little happy dance just thinking about it- he’d asked a girl that he had a crush on out on a date, and she’d said yes! This had never happened before! He should be celebrating!
And yet, on the other hand, the side of himself that remembered the vow of platonicity that he’d taken when your friendship had just begun was furious with him right now. He remembered why he’d promised to put his friendship with you above any other… developments that had the potential to happen. He still remembered how it shook him to his core to see Alan and his harpy girlfriend stare at you as if you were prey for their sick entertainment. It was selfish of him to be willing to put your reputation on the line simply because he couldn’t keep his feelings in check.
Eddie wanted you- that much was obvious. But he also wanted to keep you safe.
When he shut off the water, the sudden silence in the room made Rick’s words from last year echo in his head even louder- “Don’t tell me if she asked, you wouldn’t be all over that.” Eddie had laughed the question off, assuming there was no point in answering because there was no way you would ever ask in the first place. No way in hell a smart girl like you would ever go for a guy like him.
Eddie toweled himself off in front of the small vanity mirror above the sink, looking himself in the eyes as he grappled with the truth that he was still struggling to believe. She likes you. He thought to his reflection. She thinks you’re smart, she thinks you’re funny, and most importantly, she thinks you’re worth a damn. He shook his head softly, still barely comprehending it himself. Are you really about to pass on a chance like this because you’re scared you can’t protect her?
Eddie Munson had never been lucky. He’d never been someone that good things just happen to. Any good thing in his life had been taken, borrowed or earned. No blessing was ever gifted to him for free.
Until you came along.
Your friendship had only begun because you’d seen things in him that only a select few in his life had ever cared to notice- you looked at him and saw someone who was kind, protective, intelligent, creative… a good person. Even Eddie couldn’t decide if he was good or not sometimes, but he always strived to be. No teacher, no friend’s parent, no adult that wasn’t directly related to him at least had seen that either, not for a long time.
But you saw him. Your family saw him. For crying out loud, when he couldn’t even get his own father to claim him as his pride and joy, your parents were actually proud of him. You made him feel like he belonged.
That realization solidified his decision. Life had handed him a really, really good thing when it dropped you into his life and he was not about to run away because he was scared he wouldn’t measure up.
He deserved to let himself have something good.

“What time did you say he’s picking you up again?”
Robin’s voice was muffled, knee-deep in the mess she’d made of your closet.
“Eight,” you repeated for the third time since you’d both woken up from your impromptu sleepover on the couch, bleary-eyed and squinting at the idle blue television screen that had appeared hours ago after the final credit of The Dark Crystal had rolled.
“Perfect!” said Robin, “That should give us long enough to pick the perfect outfit for… whatever Eddie Munson plans for a first date.”
“Robin, it’s eleven thirt- OOF!” You were cut short by a dress that hit you square in the face, followed by a sweater and a pair of boots being shoved into your arms by your best friend.
“Try these on, I know it’s cold but you could layer… Do you know if you guys will be outside?”
“He wouldn’t plan something outside, would he?” you asked, suddenly concerned. “I mean you don’t think he’d take me, like, hiking, right?”
Robin snorted. “If Eddie tries to take you on a little stroll through the woods in the dead of night, all bets are off. Get the hell out of there, mission aborted.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. While there were probably some people in Hawkins who really did believe that worrying Eddie Munson might drag you to the woods at night to sacrifice you to some dark god or something was a valid, rational fear, you knew better. Eddie was a lot of things, but outdoorsy he was not.
Before you knew it, you’d joined Robin in your closet, taking dresses, jeans, blouses, and boots in your hands and laying them out on your bed in different combinations. You compared each outfit against the other in a drawn out game of trial and error in pursuit of the perfect look for your date tonight, pausing only for snack breaks and to change the tape that played from your cassette player on the dresser.
Brushing off the events of yesterday was easy when you thought about what was looking up for you- you were going on a date tonight with Eddie Munson. This was what you’d been hoping for since the spring! Good things were happening for you.
In the light of so much good, it was pretty hard for you to focus on the bad.
Tumblr media
Eddie stood on your doorstep, hands shoved in his pockets to shield them from the cold. Now that Hawkins was deep into December, a frosty layer of snow blanketed the surface of the ground, and the air still held just enough chill to preserve it for days on end. He freed one hand just long enough to deliver seven decisive knocks to the front door.
Dun-dun-dudun-dun… dun-dun.
Your heart rate doubled its pace when you heard it; you took a steadying breath before squeezing the handle of your front door and swinging it open.
For a moment, time stood still. You both knew you should say something, should do something… but all you could do was take in the sight of each other, still shaken with disbelief that tonight was really happening.
Eddie wore all black, which wasn’t uncommon for him. Though he seemed… cleaner, somehow. Like he’d made an effort to hand pick the nicest black pieces in his closet. The only pop of color he wore was a red wool scarf wrapped haphazardly around his neck. It rested snugly under the collar of his leather jacket, and you remembered how the smooth lining felt against your skin the last time you’d worn it. It made you want to feel it again.
Your date for the evening eyed you up and down, awestruck by you for what felt like the thousandth time this year. You and Robin had settled on a flannel pinafore dress, paired with a turtleneck and thick tights. You’d concluded that the outfit was just the right compromise of pretty and practical, given the frigid weather and the fact that you had absolutely no idea what Eddie’s itinerary was for the evening ahead.
You smiled, a warm ray of light in the frosted dark as you took your red pea coat from its hook by the door. “Hi.”
“Hi.” Eddie’s face brightened in the light of yours. Funny how that always seemed to happen.
“So, uh…” You murmured, shutting the door behind you. “What's the plan, Stan?”
Eddie raised an eyebrow. “Stan?”
“Because it rhymes with plan.” You fiddled with the buttons of your coat nervously. “Plan, Stan… Sorry-” you huffed, eyes flicking down as blood rushed to your face. You hoped he couldn’t tell. “-I don’t know why I’m so nervous.”
“You’re nervous?” Eddie snorted. “My palms are fucking waterfalls, why do you think my hands are in my pockets right now?”
You giggled, still jittery from the nerves bolstered by the cold. “You’re just saying that to make me feel better, you never get nervous.”
“Oh yeah? Wanna feel?” he teased, shoving a cold, clammy hand against your cheek. You squealed, slapping at his hand as your face scrunched up with mock disgust. Before you knew it you were both laughing, and all was right with the world again- his joyful snicker nestled perfectly against your giggle-turned-guffaw. It was like riding a bike, the way the two of you fit together perfectly.
“Don’t be nervous,” you whispered, gently leaning into his shoulder once you caught your breath, “It’s just me.”
Eddie leaned back, his weight finding equilibrium with yours between your shoulders. “And it’s just me.”
“Just us.” you whispered, tipping your head to meet his shoulder for a moment. Eddie’s heart might have been racing still, but if hearts could get runners’ high… he was pretty sure it felt like this.
Tumblr media
Eddie refused to tell you where he was driving you, only that your destination was about thirty minutes out of Hawkins. When he finally pulled into the parking lot, the look on your face was completely worth it.
“Santa’s Light Farm?” you read from the lit archway composed of what looked like two giant candy canes as he pulled the van into the drive. Eddie took a moment to take in your awestruck expression before throwing the gear shift into park. “Eddie, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many Christmas lights in my life! How did you find out about this place?”
“We used to come here when I was a kid,” Eddie said, unbuckling and killing the engine before hopping out of the van and jogging to open your door before you got the chance. He continued as he helped you from your seat, “Long time ago, like… last time I was here it was with my mom.”
Your eyes widened; he’d never mentioned her before, not really. He’d only made passing references to his mother, the entity she’d been in the childhood that you didn’t know much about apart from what he’d made a point not to talk about.
“How long ago was that?” you asked. You didn’t mean to pry… but now that he was opening up doors that had never been opened for you, you were anxious for any scraps he was willing to give.
“My last Christmas with her, I was six.” Eddie’s gaze was wistful, tinging his melancholy grin with a hint of nostalgia. “I don’t remember much about this place, just how I felt when I was here.” He turned to you now, the corner of his smile tugging up in that way that made your heart do backflips. “That’s why I wanted to bring you.”
The two of you were standing still now, waiting in line at the ticket booth. Your hand grasped his, and you gave him a reassuring squeeze. “I wish I could’ve met her.”
Eddie’s hand squeezed yours back. “She would have liked you.” Then he gave you a look so genuine, you had no doubt in your mind that he meant it.
He let go of your hand only to thumb through his cash at the ticket booth, greedily grabbing your hand back the moment he pocketed his wallet.
You began the journey through the glowing light show of giant Christmas trees and dazzling archways, and you both marveled at the sheer amount of lights that had been strung into fantastic spectacles as far as your eyes could see. Holiday favorites played through speakers served as the soundtrack to your colorful stroll, mingling with the laughter of children making memories just like Eddie’s.
“You want hot cocoa?” he asked when the two of you found a quaint stand decorated to look like a gingerbread house. You nodded eagerly, swooning at the idea of a warm drink in this bone-chilling cold.
“Now’s the best part, Sweet Tart.” Eddie smiled triumphantly at his rhyme, taking both of your hot chocolates and herding you over to a topping bar that had been set up on the side of the stand. “You probably don’t know this about me, but I just happen to make the most delicious cup of hot cocoa in the history of the world.”
“Oh, aren’t I lucky?”
“Extremely.” he winked, handing you one of the cups. “So what I’m going to do is fix you the greatest cup of cocoa ever, and you can try your best to make me one Ace-style.”
You lifted an eyebrow. “And what is Ace-style?”
“That’s up to you, gorgeous.”
Gorgeous. Eddie just called you gorgeous. You wanted to pinch yourself, to squeal, to jump up and down.
“Well then,” you cooed through a toothy grin, “get ready to be dethroned, cocoa king.”
A little more than five minutes later, the two of you sat on a bench beneath a twinkle-lit pergola with your custom cocoas in hand. You had begrudgingly named Eddie the winner, laying the grudge on thickly just to see his cocky smile grow cockier. You’d happily lose any competition against him if it meant you got to see that smile on his face.
“You get extra points for creativity with the cinnamon, though.” he complimented you between sips, a frothy mustache of whipped cream bubbling on his upper lip. “Never would’ve thought to put that on cocoa.”
You struggled to hide a laugh as you reached for him with a napkin. “‘Preciate it, Colonel Sanders.”
“Colonel…? Oh.” It was too dark to tell, but you were pretty sure Eddie blushed as you wiped the whipped cream away. “Thanks. No question of whether or not I liked your recipe, I guess!”
You giggled, taking a sip from your own cup. “I’m a little jealous that I don’t get to taste the fruit of my own labors, I worked hard on that!”
“Oh, you wanted some?” You recognized that mischievous glint in Eddie’s eye, but it was too late- he’d already swiped a dollop of whipped cream from his cup and smeared it on the tip of your nose. “There. You can reach that, right?”
You crossed your eyes as you laughed, trying to reach the whipped cream with your tongue which- obviously- you could not do.
Eddie was cracking up beside you. “C’mon Ace, it’s right there, you got it!”
It wasn’t long before you’d dabbed a bit of whipped cream on his nose, and the two of you had descended into a laughing fit.
The entire date went that way… both of you messing with each other, finding tiny, insignificant excuses to touch each other, make eye contact, do or say something that made the other smile. Conversation flowed easily, like it always did. You’d initially been nervous that this night would be awkward, but you couldn’t have been farther from the truth. Talking to him, being with him… it was effortless every time.
Before you knew it, you’d both reached the end of the path, the glowing candy cane archway marking the divide between the holiday wonderland and the dusty parking lot.
Neither you nor Eddie seemed able to bring yourselves toward it; you both stood stock still just a few feet behind the looming candy canes. It seemed he wanted to keep the night going just as much as you did.
“I almost want to try and walk through it again backwards.” You said, laughing lightly through the words. “I don’t want it to be over.”
Eddie seemed pensive, tilting his head as if deep in thought. The air between you was silent enough for you to register White Christmas playing through a speaker somewhere. Eddie backed up a step or two, then extended his arm out to you with an open hand.
“One dance for the road, then?”
You stared at Eddie’s hand as a bewildered smile unfurled across your lips. “Do people even dance to Christmas music?”
“That depends on whether you take my hand or not.” He shrugged, watching you expectantly.
You took his hand. How could you do anything else?
It was cold outside- more than cold, it was below freezing- and yet, when you felt the pad of his frigid fingers caress your hand, felt his other hand press into the small of your back through the several layers of fabric you wore tonight… you felt anything but cold. You were freshly baked cookies. You were a quilt left by the fireplace to soak up its warmth. Hell, you were the fireplace.
You swayed as one to Bing Crosby’s crooning, and your forehead found his chest as your eyelids fluttered shut and a smile that shone with warm content took its rightful place on your winter-chapped lips. You didn’t think it could get better, but then you felt his voice rumbling in his chest and realized that Eddie was singing softly along to the carol as you danced, and your heart began to melt for him.
You got a few looks as people walked past, some surprised, some fond, some judgmental- neither of you noticed, though. For once, you were both completely unbothered by the entire world around you. Nothing existed outside of this.
You did eventually walk to the van. Eddie drove you back to Hawkins, and he parked at the curb in front of your house the same way he so often did… but it wasn’t the same. Because this time, he held your hand all the while.
“Can I see you again before Christmas?” Eddie asked you, standing with you on the doorstep under the pale porch light.
“Well duh,” you smiled, “I have to give you your present.”
He smirked. You swooned. You always swooned when he gave you that little half smile, but this time you didn’t hide it from him. You never wanted to hide how you felt about him ever again, after tonight.
“And I have to give you your present.” Eddie parroted, sliding his arms around your waist and pulling you close.
Your eyes went wide at the contact, and you couldn’t suppress the grin his touch elicited from you as you leaned into it.
“You got me a present?”
He nodded, pulling you closer. “Mm-hm. And you didn’t have to get me anything, tonight was enough.”
You sighed, watching the cloud of your cocoa-scented breath mingle with his in the dim light against a backdrop of snow that was just beginning to fall. “Tonight was perfect, Eddie.”
“Almost perfect.”
You lifted your head to look up at him, confused, but his finger caught your chin to lift it the rest of the way to capture your lips with his own.
You were dreaming. You had to be dreaming. Eddie Munson was kissing you, and snow was falling, and his hand was pressing into the small of your back making you arch against him and Eddie Munson was kissing you.
You lifted your hand to lightly caress the stubble at his jaw, and you felt him shiver at the coldness of your fingers but he only kissed you harder, as if he sought shelter from the cold in the way your lips felt against his.
You were dazed when he pulled away, eyelashes fluttering and your gaze saturated with longing for more. He brought a hand up to grasp yours at his jaw, bringing it to his mouth to press a gentle kiss to your knuckles.
“You look like a princess tonight, by the way,” he whispered. “I should’ve said that when you got the door, but I’m a coward.”
“You aren’t a coward, Eddie Munson.” You said, moon-eyed and soft-spoken.
A snowflake caught in your hair, and Eddie smiled as he smoothed it out with his thumb. “You know,” he said, murmuring as though he was half speaking to himself. “When I’m with you, that feels truer than it ever used to before.” He brought his lips to your forehead, pressing them into another gentle kiss at your hairline.
Tumblr media
Six days passed before you saw Eddie again, but that didn’t mean you didn’t hear from him. He called you every morning- that is, if you didn’t beat him to it. You caught your parents smiling at you on more than one occasion, watching you giggle and sigh and twirl the telephone cord between your fingers. Your mother would grin wistfully, remembering the first time she’d been that smitten over someone. Your father would shake his head and sip his coffee, hiding a smile behind the paper. They both knew who you were talking to, and they couldn’t be more proud of their daughter’s taste. Eddie was already practically part of the family.
The snow continued in full force for the majority of that week, and by the time Friday the 23rd rolled around, there was enough snow on the ground to nearly reach your knees. Eddie insisted that the two of you had to build a snowman as the snow was the perfect consistency today to do so, and you were completely incapable of saying no to him so that was exactly what you did. You were both so cold and frozen to the bone that you both had to huddle by the radiator in his trailer until you could feel your toes again. Wayne had gotten off early for the holidays, so he’d been ready with steaming cups of coffee for the both of you. Come sundown, you were both wrapped in old blankets and clutching your mugs of coffee, cuddling like penguins as It’s a Wonderful Life played on the TV.
It was a perfect day.
“You want your present now?” Eddie asked, his chin nudging the top of your head as the credits rolled at the end of the film. It was just the two of you in the room now, Wayne having escaped to the patio for a smoke break.
You nodded excitedly, leaping up to grab two wrapped parcels from beneath the plastic Christmas tree in the corner of the living room- one from you to Eddie, one from him to you.
Eddie chuckled at your enthusiasm, turning to face where you sat opposite him on the loveseat.
“You open yours first.” you commanded, excited to see his reaction to what you were quite sure would knock his socks off. You’d pulled some strings for this one.
Eddie obeyed, ripping into the carefully wrapped package quickly and efficiently. Moments later, he was holding up a T-shirt with an expression that was somewhere between shock and complete childlike glee.
“This… is this-?”
You were already nodding. “It’s from this year’s tour. I have a cousin in Texarkana, and he told me they were playing at the Community College back at the beginning of the school year, so…” You smiled, “I called in a favor he owes me.”
Eddie looked at you flabbergasted, turning your gift to him this way and that so he could look at every square inch of the Metallica tour shirt- now officially his Metallica tour shirt.
“This is… oh my God-”
On that last syllable, he dropped the shirt in his lap and tackled you in a hug so fierce, it toppled you over.
“Okay, okay,” you wheezed, struggling to catch your breath in his vice-like grip. “I’m glad you like it, can I breathe now, please?”
He loosened the embrace but still held you in his arms, smiling down at you with joy so bright it could melt the snow outside. “Seriously, thank you. I can’t believe you managed to get one of these.”
You shrugged. “Well, you wanted to go see them in Illinois months ago, but I’m the one who convinced you to stay home because it was a school night. It’s the least I could do.”
Eddie shook his head, gazing at you with the kind of wonder that one would normally reserve for something like the Grand Canyon or an art museum. “Ace, if this is your least, then I don’t think the world is ready for your best.”
Once both of you were upright again, Eddie tapped a finger impatiently on his gift to you. “Your turn, c’mon, open it.”
You didn’t need to be told twice- you tore paper and ribbon off the rectangular box with gusto, raising an eyebrow when you saw a logo you recognized on the surface of the cardboard.
“Converse?” You asked. Eddie just smiled, waiting for you to remove the lid- he wasn’t disappointed with your reaction. Your jaw dropped when your eyes locked on the deep red platform Converse that you’d fallen in love with nearly five months ago.
“Eddie… are these-?”
“You know I couldn’t let you leave that store without those shoes. Or… well, I couldn’t let you leave without the possibility of owning those shoes.” Eddie’s posture straightened, obviously satisfied with how surprised you were. “They were meant for you, Ace.”
You couldn’t stop staring at the shoes. Those beautiful, red, perfect shoes that Eddie had seen you simply look at all those months ago, and bought for you so that he could give you the perfect Christmas present. Because they were- they were the best present you had ever gotten, because you knew that this meant he cared about you even then.
You were so in love with this man.
You didn’t realize you’d shed a tear until it spilled over your eyelid and fell with a plop on the cardboard box.
“I can’t believe you bought these, Eddie, they were so expensive!”
“Hey now, it’s okay! You don’t need to cry, it’s okay!”
Eddie was wiping your eyes in seconds, panicking at the sight of your tears. You sniffled, gazing up at him with wet, shining eyes. “It’s okay, they’re happy tears, I promise!” You tried to reassure him, but his hands stayed planted on either side of your jaw, fingers splayed across the skin of your cheeks.
“You promise you’re okay?” Eddie pressed.
You took his wrists in your hands, stroking your thumbs along his skin. “I’m more than okay, Eddie.”
This time it was you who leaned in, your lips salted from a stray tear ghosting against his, innocent and tentative. He made a noise when you kissed him, a high-pitched sort of whine that sounded wanting, desperate. The tip of his tongue poked out to taste your kiss, and the moment you allowed your tongue to meet his, he seemed to lose all restraint.
Your presents were forgotten, pushed to the side as Eddie leaned further into your kiss, his lips moving purposefully against yours as he slowly lowered you until you were horizontal on the loveseat.
More of his weight settled on top of you, and you reveled in the way his body slotted against yours as he deepened the kiss. His mouth worked in tandem with yours as your hands wandered, fingering the fabric of his long sleeved shirt against his back. Your fingers worked their way under the hem, slipping to the warm skin beneath, and he gasped into your mouth at how cold your fingers were. His revenge was a bite to your lip, which launched a gasp from your lips that surprised even you.
“Ahem.”
Wayne’s cough came from the kitchen, and it tore the two of you off of each other so fast that Eddie actually fell off of the couch, landing on his back and staring up at the ceiling wide-eyed and rueful.
“You kids still on Santa’s nice list out here?”
“Christ, Wayne-” Eddie’s hands rubbed his eyes, as if he could somehow reach his brain through his eye sockets and scrub away the embarrassment.
“-Because if you’re doing something that would land you two on the naughty list, I’d rather it didn’t happen in my living room.”
You cringed, glad he was behind you so you didn’t have to look Wayne in the eye. “Sorry, Mr. Munson.”
Eddie glanced up at you, smiling up at you through a cringe as he mouthed Sorry!
“It’s getting late, Ace,” he said, hopping to his feet and offering you a hand. “Let’s get you home.”
You nodded, taking his hand and standing to throw Wayne an apologetic smile. “Thank you for having me over, Mr. Wayne. And for the coffee.”
He gave you a friendly, forgiving smile in return. “No need to thank me, darlin’, you’re welcome anytime.”
Tumblr media
When Eddie returned home from dropping you off, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the crumpled piece of notebook paper that you’d given him before you’d left his car. You’d scribbled a phone number on it- the area code was unfamiliar, a Louisiana number that you’d said belonged to your grandmother’s house where you’d be staying for the remainder of the winter holiday.
“My flight leaves tomorrow,” you’d said, “but my granny said it’s fine if you call. I can’t hog the phone like I’ve been doing the rest of this week- there’ll be like eighteen grandchildren there, so I doubt I’m the only one who’ll want to use the phone, but-”
“Ace,” Eddie interrupted, “Are you asking me to call you?”
You looked up at him sheepishly, smiling and nodding your head.
He grinned. “Then I’ll call.”
This felt like the beginning of something good, something really really good. Eddie didn’t know what he’d done to deserve something so good… one could even call it a Christmas miracle.
The phone rang suddenly, pulling Eddie from his thoughts, and he picked up the receiver quickly so it wouldn’t bother Wayne, who’d fallen asleep in his recliner.
“Hello?”
“You gave her the shoes!” Robin’s voice buzzed excitedly.
Eddie smiled, “Yes, Buckley, I gave her the shoes.” Robin had made a point to interrogate Eddie about his Christmas gift to you over a month ago, and when Eddie had finally broken down and told her, she’d actually been rather impressed with him.
“I just got off the phone with her,” She gushed, “She was stunned, completely floored. God, Munson, you realize you’re getting a girlfriend for Christmas?”
“Slow down, speedy-” Eddie cautioned through his teeth, “-we haven’t really… defined anything yet. I don’t even know if that’s what she wants.”
Robin snorted. “Oh, I don’t think you’ll find much of an issue there. Believe me, she wants to be with you. If she’s ready to deal with Alan and his creeps for you, she’s in it for the long haul.”
Eddie frowned, confused. “Alan?” he asked, “You mean what happened back in October? If anything she was the one antagonizing him, I had to get her out of the classroom before she started a fight.”
“October? No, I mean last week.”
Eddie’s breath caught in his chest.
“Robin,” he said, his voice dangerously calm. “What happened last week?”

BEFORE HE CHEATS (EDDIE MUNSON X READER)
Tumblr media
summary : Y/N hopper is out with the gang celebrating at the hideout when her boyfriend walks in with a blonde on his arm and she goes for where it hurts ... his car while eddie help the woman he secretly loves get over her new ex .
warning: violence against cheating exes and their cars , hopper being a girl dad boss
A rare night out with the older members of the gang , a celebration of the anniversary stopping the end of the world and eddie being cleared as a murderer . the rules we're simple no outsiders that included partners which only effected the rest as jonathan and nancy were still going strong together . the drinks flowing and music blaring everyone was enjoying their night. eddie and steve complaining about dustin and his ego while robin and Y/N well no one knew what they were talking about especially when alcohol was involved, the word vomit was on fast forward with the two, yet eddie munson often felt trapped in a trance at the chief of police daughter. how her laugh was his favourite sound . how when she looked at him , he'd honestly thought his legs would give out yet she belonged to someone else because he was too much of a chicken shit to tell her how he felt. he loved it was just the gang tonight he got to admire her and not feel sick watching her in the arms of some asshole that clearly didn't deserve her. How the moment he met the dude 8 months ago he felt something , a walking red burning flag the guy was. how he would let her down most of time . no if she was his girl , he would make sure everyday that she would know how special she was . But now he was looking from the outside , being the guy she would cry to when he could give her the world if she asked . he may not of had money for fancy date but he would make it special , he would make sure it was something that was worthy of her. he knew she wasn't the type to be impressed by flashy gifts and date . she appreciated everything no matter how small it was , even when the kids pitched in and got her flowers with a cassette she lit up like they gave her a new car . He wished something would give him the chance just for once cut him a break in the shit show he called his life.
like an answered pray the gang eyes all locked on the door as he walked in a skinny little blonde on his arm looking completely terrified of everything around her. " hey we had some car trouble could we use the phone " he called not clocking his girlfriend tense shoulders and heartbroken face or her existence at all . " could be a work friend " robin mused. " baby come on we're missing our engagement party " she cried. " how long you been together " a man asked them . " only four month but when you know well you know " she giggled not sounding like the brightest bunny in the cage  . " we can leave " steve winced . " nope more alcohol " she shook her head her face completely emotionless as she looked over seeing the two heading for the pool table . she watched for half an hour , they played up using the excuse to touch each other in a sickeningly sweet seductive way . she scoffed when the girl complain how harsh the whiskey or how he would beam down at her kissing her like she was all he could matter about . " we could kick his ass " steve mused . " nope hey stevie that bat with the wire still in your car? " she slammed the rest of her drink down . " yeah why " he asked. " no reason , thanks for the keys " she walked by she ignored how her ex turned trying to hide himself and the selfish fuck thought it worked like he actually got away with it . " steve , you told her the bat was in the car and let her take your key " robin mused. " yeah " he nodded til his eyes widened in realization. " oh shit " he ran toward the entrance only for them to heard the smashing already take place . " hey fuck face i think your cars in more trouble , i suggest you hide your friend from the girlfriend out there " eddie yelled back .
when the gang walked out every window on the corvette was gone , she was currently dragging her own keys alongside the exterior of the car, the sound of the scratched up metal filled the car park . She pulled out the butterfly knife from her boot to which she  stabbing them in the in the tire as they watched . " what the fuck you crazy bitch " he yelled. " oh hey baby fancy seeing you here" she waved stabbing the tire while he watched on . " who is she " the blonde on his arm screeched ." his girlfriend of 8 months " eddie rolled his eyes . what he didn't expect was the pissed off grunt of the blonde . "have you got another bat " she stomped toward the car . " no but if you wanna shred the interior here" she held the knife out to the woman . now his side chick was slashing his seats before pulling a gun out of the glove box . " headlights, he's not worth a life sentence " Y/N yelled as the gun rang out the woman threw it to the ground just as the red and blue light came speeding in . " oh hi dad " she smiled . " what's going on " he huffed. " he cheated and he's car mysteriously got destroyed stranger things have happened huh? " she smiled weakly. " sir i did not cheat ... ok i did but it was so her dad would give me a promotion so i could take care of your daughter " her ex rambled . " well you should park your car somewhere safer next time son the boys can give you lift home " hopper crossed his arm. " arrest them they did it " he cried . " you guys see it " he asked the group . " no " they yelled. " hey hop hate to say no cctv busted since last night " roy the owner of the bar smirked. " now off you go insurance can handle it " hopper waved to her ex a anger grimace on his face as the man walked off without a car or a girlfriend . " maybe next time you'll think before you cheat " she called . " it wont be on us " the blonde called . " hey steve give .. " . " abby " she sniffled. " abby a lift home" she smiled sadly to the woman . " sorry i didn't know he was seeing anyone,  i thought i met the guy after so many failed date but he was just after my money  " she said standing  tears falling down her cheeks  . " thanks for the help now go home and plus stevie there's better guy and no shrimp dick  and he's already rich " she winked as the two walked off . " you need a ride home guys won't mind " hopper looked at her. " nah i'm good " she smiled sadly walking over to the gang as robin wrapped her in an embrace. " hey come on little vandal i'll bring you home " eddie smiled softly leading her to his van as her dad ran up behind them . " next time don't leave evidence" he whispered handing over the knife and bat . " night dad " she kissed his cheek . " night sweet heart , me and my girls tomorrow for dad daughter breakfast " he smiled . " make sure el has her eggo's " she chuckled . " hey munson don't pussy out " he yelled out making her stop at the van. " what does he mean " her eye filled in confusion . " that our cue to go " robin yelled .
" well i didn't expect your dad of all people to call me out " he began shuffling his feet while his eyes that usually would follow her anywhere couldn't bare to even look at her . " eddie you ok " he could hear her feet coming closer making his own heart beat thump in his chest . " i'vebeeninlovewithyousincewemet" he said the words jumbled together halting her steps . " wait what " she giggled . " i've been in love with you since we met " he sighed . " why didn't you say anything " her voice fell into a whisper . " because look at you and look at me , your badass and well i'm ...OWW" he jumped back . " your badass too and ugh why didn't you say anything could of saved me 8 month of my life " she huffed getting into the van . " what you mean by that" he chased after her . " meaning that night i met that idiot was because you were again flirting with some ditz and i was sick of it so " she huffed heading hitting the seat , " you liked me " he smiled . " yes i like you but this too soon i mean i just broke up with my boyfriend " . " well then i can wait i've been waiting years already i can wait for you anytime " he smiled like a giddy teen . " fuck it "she leaned forward crashing her lips against his , she spent years watching that mouth move wondering how her lips would feel against them . " ok we need to go home before we do anything we regret , i want you that bad sweetheart i'm not leaving anything to chance but i'm taking you on a date once your ready " he smiled starting the van driving off happy both looked to the smashed up car before breaking into fit of laughter .
she watched his profile , she notice something she barely even cared her ex well was now her ex. the man done nothing but let her down and then throw shitty gifts at her. yet once even with eddie doing whatever it always made her happy . he was always about to make her smile no matter what was going around even when he almost died he tried to make her smile . the more she thought of it the more she realise he really was always there . when her and hopper would have a argument like most dad's and daughters he would open his home for her to sleep over. everytime her dates would  be cancelled he would pick up her disappointment and do something fun with her " Eddie i don't want you to wait , i mean i don't think i can wait for you anymore " her voice now showing she was the nervous one . she meant it , thought she literally just became single  she couldn't leave it another second without eddie being her , truly hers . he didn't say anything only drove which made her more nervous til he pulled into the diner. " well then i'm not waiting " he smiled making her released a breath she was holding . " so this is our first date?" she smiled. " i mean it's already the best one those burgers in there are to die for " he chuckled jumping out of the car before walking around and lifting her out of the van . " you ready " he asked holding her close to him . " who knew  cheating and car vandalising would bring me to one of the best nights of my life " she smiled as he leaned down this time taking charge of the kiss and taking the chance he wished he'd done sooner .

John had to take all of his special unit back to his childhood home and farm, at least once. And he didn’t think he’d enjoy it so much, having his brothers with him in his home with his parents and wife, together.
They had to ride for days to get to his village, and Kyle would point out the greenery and mountains, how beautiful these parts of the land were, and Price would smile, proud and happy to be going home, to his love. Simon would be basking in the sun, on the back of his horse, half listening to Johnny and sometimes interrupting him to tell him some of the unfunniest jokes on earth.
And when they would finally reach their farm, Price’s parents and his wife would be waiting for them, by the entrance. Price would hop down his horse, and open his arms for his wife, as she runs and jumps in his arms, kissing him all over and squeezing him tight. John’s witch was not afraid to show affection to her husband, not publicly and especially privately, be damned society’s expectations and rules, nothing will stop her from running to her husband, skirts riding up her naked legs and one of the sleeves sliding down one shoulder and hair a mess. Fuck being proper.
And he loved her so much for that, chucking everything that would make her a proper lady out of the window in favour of loving him so openly, as he truly deserves.
That fact about her would not go unnoticed by his brothers. What a sight she was, beautiful and so inviting in her laughs and smiles. It was more than evident how much she loved him and how much he loved her back.
When her legs were on the ground again, she will turn to the other men, pushing her hair out of her face and grinning like the fucking sun in the middle of summer, sticking out her hand. And she would receive grins and three kisses at the back of her hand.
Price’s parents would greet their son, commenting on his evergrowing beard and bigger build, but then they would turn to the other men, giving each a bone-crushing hug that would warm them from the inside out.
After they will obviously get settled in the cleared-out rooms that Price’s parents and his wife prepared, stretching their tired limbs and getting a proper bath to wash away all the sweat and grim that cold river water couldn’t wash away. You better believe Price will try every trick in the book to get her to stay with him, in his room for the next hours. He knows she has things to do, like helping his parents cook them a proper meal. But he tends to become needy, selfish and straight-out unreasonable sometimes when he’s in the same vicinity as her for the first time in weeks.
He wants his wife, for the love of everything good and gracious. Is that too much to ask for?
But John ends up getting his way in the end, not only he has her help him bathe, but he tried his mighty best to stretch it out as much as he could, like, “Honey, I think you’ve missed this spot on my back- Can you just-”
And his wife would wash his back for him, an amused smile on her lips, indulging him and running a cloth over the muscles and fat under his freckled skin, then she would press her fingers on the knots in his shoulders and dip of his back, making his head drop, feeling immediate relief.
Then she would somehow end up against the wall of the bathroom, skirts hunched up around her waist and his knee keeping her legs spread as he continuously plunges his fingers inside her wet cunt over and over again, while his other hand is covering her mouth so her delicious sounds wouldn't be heard.
And when she cums, she’s shaking all over and her legs are wobbly and Price has a stupid smile on his face as he rubs her back, helping her calm her frantic heart. His darling has then to stand against the wall, holding her skirts in her arms as he’s kneeling by her feet, a cloth cleaning up the mess she’s made of herself between her legs.
“I was supposed to be the one taking care of you…” She mumbled, cheeks hot.
Price glanced up at her and chuckled, “You are.”
.
.
.
When it was nearing dinner time, the witch stepped inside the living room, her sleeves rolled up and hair tied up, interrupting the men’s conversation. “Lads, I have a job for you.”
Gaz, Soap and Ghost all look at Price at the same time. The captain just shrugs and stands up, and they copy him, all following his wife outside the house. And Price can literally feel the excitement coming out in waves from his wife, but he doesn’t ask, he just follows her silently until they’re all 3 metres away from the house.
The witch turns to the men, her lips stretching into a smile. “I need you to catch me a rooster for dinner.”
And as soon as those words leave her mouth, Price smirks, trying to hide it by running his finger through his beard. Johnny barks out a laugh, “Of course, we’ll catch ya a rooster, lass!”
“Yeah, sounds fair, the least we can do is catch our dinner.” Kyle shrugs, hands in his pockets and Simon nods in agreement.
“Which one d’ya want us to catch?” Johnny asked, tilting his chin forward.
The witch grins and points above his head, and he frowns in confusion, turning around. And then he looks around and frowns when there’s no rooster on the ground- Oh, what the shit.
The rooster she wants them to catch is standing right on top of the house, staring down at them in challenge, the wind blowing over its black and white feathers, making the rooster’s body seem larger than it actually was.
“Steamin’ Mother…” Johnny mumbles, squinting his eyes to see the rooster better. Kyle and Simon also seemed to be taken aback, staring at the bird in shock.
The witch started giggling behind one of her hands, angling her body away from the men. Meanwhile, Price didn’t care much and started laughing loudly with his head thrown back, hand on his chest and tears collecting at the corner of his eyes.
“You two are mean!” Price’s mother suddenly scolded by the door, hands on her hips.
“Stop laughing, you mutts!” Price’s father barked out and Price and his wife started laughing even louder, screeching and holding onto each other while the three other men stood there, trying to figure out how the fuck are they supposed to catch that rooster.
“That was a good one, love.” Price said, his cheeks hurting from laughing and wrapped an arm around her waist, kissing the side of her face. As soon as Price said that, Kyle, Simon and Johnny all sighed in relief.
“Ahah, yeah, that was very funny,” Kyle said, glad he doesn’t actually have to go catch the damned bird. Which was still standing at the top of the house and staring at them.
“What do you mean?” The witch said, making Price freeze.
“What do-” Price frowned.
“Catch it.” His wife said, slowly smirking up at him.
When I say Price’s mum literally shrieked, laughing so hard she had to lean against her husband, face literally turning pink.
The colours literally drained out of Price’s face, anything but chasing that fucking rooster.
“I was being serious, John.” She said, bringing a hand up to fix the collar of his loose shirt. “I want you to catch it for me, please?” the witch bit her lower plush lip and batted her pretty eyelashes at him, placing her other hand on one of his biceps and giving it one squeeze.
Price was standing there, with his mouth open. And when she made a noise, tilting her head to the side, saying “So, are you going to do it?” without actually saying anything. Determination swelled in his chest, making his blood pump and he cleared his throat.
“We’ll catch it. For you.” He said, giving her a nod and placing a kiss on her forehead and started walking towards the house.
“Where are you going?” Johnny called out after the man.
“To get my gear.” Price said without looking back.
“What?!” Simon said, the word literally jumped out of his throat.
“Why?!” Kyle said at the same time as Simon.
“He bites.” Was all Price said before the three men ran after their Captain while his mother was still laughing, almost pissing herself.
.
.
.
When they finally caught the rooster and tied its legs, and held it in front of the witch like a damn trophy, they swore they would never underestimate a rooster ever again. They were all panting and sweating, with feathers stuck in their hair and clothes, with arm protection on to not get bitten, but the rooster still managed to bite a hole in Simon’s shirt and pooped on Johnny’s helmet. They didn’t look happy at all and now all have a newfound fear of roosters.
“Are all roosters like this?” Johnny grumbled, cleaning his helmet in a bucket of water.
“Nope, just this one. You don’t even know how many times we’ve tried to catch him, but never succeeded.” Price’s father said, still baffled about how the beast was finally caught after three years of trying to catch him.
After handing the rooster over, the men stood outside the house and watched until it was killed and plucked and they all sagged when the rooster was no longer breathing. The witch giggled at their state and stopped right as they were going to step inside the house to wash for the second time that day.
“Hold on, take your clothes off first.” She said.
“Huh??” Johnny blushed bright red.
“Shoes and shirts off, leave them outside.” The witch added and they all nodded, following her orders. After all, the rooster did numbers on them, their clothes were filthy like they were on a battlefield and just came back for dinner.
.
.
.
The house smelled absolutely delicious. Price’s mouth watered when he stepped inside the dining room, the smells coming from the kitchen while his parents set the table up.
“What’s cooking up, mum?” John asked, bending down to kiss his mother on the head.
“I don’t know, go ask her.” His mother shrugged, a smile on her lips and eyes twinkling.
“Alright?..” Price laughed and left his mum to go investigate the kitchen.
As soon as he entered the kitchen, he was greeted with a ridiculous amount of delicacies (As much as they afford in times of war while living on a farm). There were pies, stews, roasted vegetables and the rooster, bread, cheese and caramelised apples from the orchards down the road with roasted nuts on top and beer. And there were still pots and pans bubbling and cooking up on the fire.
“Honey? What are you doing?...” Price said and the witch jumped, turning around with a wooden spoon in hand.
“Cooking?” She answered, blinking at him.
“You-” John said, noticing a plate full of sausage rolls and couldn’t help but grab one and take a bite, moaning when the flavours exploded in his mouth, taking him up to the heavens and then back down.
“You don’t have to do all of this, my love. This is- This is too much,” Price said after swallowing and snaked his free arm around her waist and pulled her against him, chest to chest.
His witch frowned, “John, when was the last time your men had a proper meal? This is the least I could do for them."
John smiled, feeling fuzzy and warm with love and appreciation. "Allow me to help you, then."
"No way, I've got this under control. You can go back out there." She said, waving her wooden spoon in the air.
"Please, love."
"Nope. No way. Go away, John." She shakes her head and turns around, stirring a pot while it's bubbling.
"At least let me watch you cook." He whined, John Price whined and he wrapped his arms around her waist, hugging her from behind.
"Fine. Just don't touch anything." She sighed, rolling her eyes and smiling, stirring. And Price happily nuzzled his face in her hair and went along with her wherever direction she went, literally glueing his body to hers.
This went on for a couple of minutes until she stopped and looked over at the food with her hands on her hips, and called John's mum, telling her to start taking some of the dishes to the table.
And as soon as she puts that damn wooden spoon down, John quickly turns her around and straight up wedding-dips his sweetheart, and cuts off her startled "John!-" with a deep passionate kiss.
When he helps her up, her cheeks are hot and she's panting, eyes wide and lips feeling all tingly. She's just looking at him while he's smiling at her like a love struck fool.
Simon's also in the kitchen, grabbing a plate full of veggies and doesn't give two shits about what they're doing, because all he's capable of focusing on is the food he's carrying and the growling of his stomach.
Tumblr media
BONUS:
the second time Price brings his boys over (kyle, Simon, johnny, ale, rudy, horangi and konig). The damn rooster is there again.
“Mum??”
“I see it, John.”
“It’s ALIVE??!!!”
And they have to chase it and kill it again. But his witch manages to hold it in her arms and pet it, “YOU CAN PET IT???” screamed Soap.
And the witch just smiles and tells them it’s a blessing in disguise, a gift, they will never get hungry as long as this rooster is around. And he always comes back, no matter how many times they eat it.
gaz, Ghost and Soap all tell the other guys abt the rooster and instill the fear in them, so now the rooster is some sort of inside horror story lmao.
+
When Price's mum meets alex for the first time, she's hella confused cuz she doesnt remember pushing him out.
“Are you my son??”
And when he opens his mouths, she's "nope, I didn't push you out"

"I..." Straddling the window frame, you couldn't find the words to express what it was you were feeling right now. "Truthfully, I wasn't going to come here," you swallowed thickly, suddenly feeling like you just ate sand and there wasn't any water left in the earth to help. "To....to say goodbye."
Robin stood with her hands crossed over her chest, over the large sleep shirt that you thought to be adorable on her. You weren't the only one who didn't know how to feel.
She couldn't blame you, could she? You didn't sign up for everything that happens in Hawkins, who could blame you for actually getting out? Honestly, the more she thought about it, the more she wished to do the same. Even before the whole 'world is going to end unless a child comes in and saves us all', Robin counted down the days until she, herself, could get out of town, far away with a good education to do whatever she pleases. But some people were glued to this town. Oh how she wished she wouldn't be one of them.
"But I needed to. Maybe that's selfish of me, Or maybe it would have been if I left without telling you." A chill ran down your body, partly from half your body being in the cool outside, while the other half was in her warm room. "I just needed to see you."
"Well, here I am." She sadly smiled, moving to pull you into her room.
Finding your footing, you looked at her-really looked at her. From her hair that was up in a lazy updo to the sloth printed pajama bottoms. Her eyes were sleepy, eye bags visible on her beautiful face. The remaining flakes of mascara were under her waterline, settled in the little wrinkles, that became more prominent when she'd smile. Her nose was slightly pink from her window allowing cold air in. Her lips were ever so slightly forming a frown, even if she didn't realize it. With her arms down from pulling you in, you saw the shirt, a smile fighting its way into your lips.
Stepping closer, your hands went to her hair, gently taking the hair tie out, putting it onto your wrist for the time being. Her hair draped over her head. It had slightly grown out, cascading in curls down to her shoulders. You played with the highlights, twirling them around your finger, inching your body closer to hers.
"What if I just stay instead." You whispered, merely inches from her face.
"You're already packed." It was true. All of your most important belongings were jammed into the small car your parents gifted you when you finally decided to get your license.
"I could unpack."
"You have to go, y/n. Get out of town, like you've always wanted to."
Moving closer, you nuzzled your nose right under her jaw, moving to hold loosely around her waist. "Mmm, I could wait longer. Until you get ready." Being a year ahead of her in school had it's pros, like getting closer with Steve after he graduated, hanging out with him at work when she'd go to school. But it also had its cons. Having to wait for her, watching as the clock ticked. (Although, you did enjoy the car ride back to your house.) But also being in separate parts of your lives, even if it's a year. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do after graduating. But she just knew she had to stay in Hawkins for just a few more years after that, maybe to figure it out. But you didn't. You were set on leaving right after you graduated and that turned out to not happen due to not wanting to leave anyone behind, but also the traumatic events. You felt guilt eat at you every second of every minute of every day.
"Come with me." Littering light kissed down her neck, you couldn't bring yourself to look up at her, look into her eyes and know what you would be leaving. You couldn't deal with any more guilt.
"You know I can't." Her own hands wound in your hair, turning her head to begin kissing your forehead.
"I know." You two stood in silence, slightly swaying side to side as if music was playing.
You weren't sure when or why but you picked your head up, looking at her for a moment before you two were crashing your lips together, stumbling back into the mattress.
"Tell me to stay." You spoke between kisses, breathing hard against her lips.
"You know I'd never ask you to do that." She broke from the kiss, hovering over your body.
"Tell me to stay and I would. Every thought of leaving this town would be thrown out the window- or we could leave when you're ready. I can wait, please ask me to wait for you."
"Y/n/n."
"That would be the only thing keeping me in this godforsaken town. Robin, please. Tell me you want me to stay."
"I need you to live your life." She plopped beside you, reaching for your hand to hold as she faced the ceiling. "For me. For everyone who wants to get out of here."

Why do you say Ted is worse than Ross
Because he is - and I say this as someone whose least favorite character of the main six in Friends is Ross because the dude can piss me off A LOT.
Ross is selfish, whinny, spoiled, obsessive and immature like Ted. But the writers of Friends were far more self-aware than the writers of How I Met Your Mother - mainly because they were not using Ross as a self-insert, and would not use Twitter to say shit like "If you ship Rachel with Joey instead of with Ross, you're the reason people like Trump get elected and destroy nations." No, I am not kidding, that actually happened.
Ted CONSTANTLY acts like a creep and the show treats it as fully romantic, and if a woman (mainly Robin) is turned off by it, the show tries to spin it as "She's afraid of commitment" or some bullshit. When Ross is getting possessive over Rachel the show actually allows her to call him out and she doesn't always run straight to his arms - not to mention, she can act just as unreasonable and entitled, meanwhile the most Robin does is say "Maybe, someday, if we're both single and miserable and no one else wants either of us, I'd consider marrying you."
Even Ross's most absurd moments get a bit more of pass because they're (usually) meant to:
1 - Show that the character is flawed (Him constantly getting paranoid that Rachel is gonna cheat on him with her co-worker is meant to show he's insecure, jealous, possessive AND doesn't listen when she repeatedly says she loves HIM, not this other dude - though the writers do still want the audience to root for him and Rachel to find a way to make it work)
2 - Make a joke about how he's kind of insane (see him not telling Rachel they're still married because he can't have another failed marriage - a situation in which NO ONE in the cast makes excuse for him, and we even have Chandler rightfully saying "At point did you think this was a successful marriage?")
Meanwhile the writers of HIMYM did things like:
1 - Say Ted breaking up with a girl on her birthday, through an answering machine that all the guests in her surprise party heard before she did, finding her years later, winning her back, then breaking up with her on her birthday AGAIN is totally just what was meant to be because "Well, she found true love later"
2 - Have him use "It was past 2am" as an excuse to cheat on his girlfriend/lie to Robin about being single to sleep with her.
3 - Make him have an emotional affair with a married woman that then left her husband (who thought of Ted as friend) for him, accept getting back together with his ex that was engaged and then left the groom at the altar, and make a move on his ex that was engaged to one of his best friends on the weekend on their wedding.
4 - HAVE TED TELL HIS KIDS HE WANTS TO TELL A STORY ABOUT HOW HE MET THEIR DEAD MOTHER, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY ABOUT HOW HE ALWAYS LOVED A DIFFERENT WOMAN THAT HE WAS STILL OBSESSED WITH AFTER 25 YEARS.
Not to mention, even the stuff in Friends that genuinely did not age well at all and that the writers weren't self-aware about in any way have a bigger excuse than the stuff HIMYM did because Friends started in 1994 and ended in 2004, yet HIMYM was on the same level, if not worse, and it started in 2005 and ended in 2014. There's a reason audiences tolerated Ross's shenanigans way more than they tolerated Ted's - Friends was a product of it's times, HIMYM felt behind it's time. Ross feels like a typical character you'd see in the 90's, Ted feels like the hero of every "Nice Guy" that is actually not nice at all.
Plus, Ross had much better chemistry with Rachel than Ted ever did with Robin (or literally any love interest except the Mother) and the series made sure to never give us an alternative pairing that was much better than the planned one like HIMYM did with Barney and Robin (and I say this as someone that ships Joey and Rachel). And while Josh Radnor made the rare good scene of Ted feel great, David Schiwimmer, and the entire cast of Friends really, made mediocre or downright bad scenes enjoyable or at least tolerable. The only one in the HIMYM cast with the same talent was Neil, who was playing the character that we were not supposed to actually want to see get the girl, which just made it even easier for audiences to root for Barney, not Ted.
It's just a perfect storm of different factors that makes a character like Ross getting a happy ending after all the shit he pulled MUCH easier to accept than when that happens to a Ted type, hence the finale of Friends still being incredibly beloved by nearly everyone, while HIMYM's ending was absolutely hated to the point that it shelved the planned spin off and put the showrunner's careers in limbo for nearly a decade.

Need to get a little something off my chest.
I am currently avoiding twitter because lots of people seem to be at each other's throats currently. One of those topics discussed is Sanji's "betrayal" in WCI. WCI is a favorite topic of mine so I figured I'd share some quick thoughts on this.
I always see people say things like "why didn't Sanji trust Luffy?" "Why did he attack him?" "Why didn't Sanji just leave with Luffy?" etc.
Tumblr media
We're just going to get the "Why didn't Sanji just leave with Luffy?" out of the way first.
Answer: Sanji was being threatened with the promise of harm coming to Zeff (and others). Sanji knows that Germa has incredible reach. For all Sanji knows, they could have Zeff just in the dungeon right that second. He can't take that kind of chance because he has no definitive answers on the health and security of any of his loved ones. It would destroy him if he let Zeff come to harm. Also, I'm sure he's thinking that Luffy would be disappointed if he threw a loved one under the bus to save his own skin.
Next: "why didn't Sanji trust Luffy?" and "Why did he attack him?"
Answer: The answer to these are deeply intertwined.
Sanji and Luffy canonly have an extremely close relationship. They're very affectionate towards each other. They share a deep, passionate bond. The trust expressed between them time and time again cannot be denied. So, you see, Sanji did trust Luffy. He trusted Luffy to act as Luffy does.
The thing to remember is, Luffy is extremely possessive and territorial as well as headstrong and foolhardy. Sanji is his. Both he and Sanji know that he will stop at nothing to regain what is considered his. Knowing this, Sanji had to try whatever pitiful means he had to make Luffy not want him anymore. Verbal and physical violence were the only tools Sanji had available to try and get Luffy to drop his possessive mindset.
Verbally and physically attack Luffy were Sanji's last ditch effort to get Luffy to turn his nose up and leave. I believe that by saying mutinous things and attacking his captain, he was trying to simulate the conditions that caused Luffy to turn on Usopp in Water 7.
Why would he want this, you ask?
The answer is actually Robin in Enis Lobby.
Sanji knows Luffy. Sanji was there when Luffy literally declared war on the World Government in order to get Robin back. Sanji knows that Luffy still has the foolhardy conviction to declare war again.
The problem is that this time he would be declaring war on both Germa and the Big Mom pirates.
Half the crew is literally on their way to fight a war against Kaido at that very moment. If Sanji lets himself be rescued then his captain will have started a war with two yonko and a deranged warmonger all at the same fucking time. The thought of that has got to be frightening, especially in Sanji's currently extremely traumatized state of being. He can't handle the idea of his crew being murdered by three incredibly strong factions. So, Sanji does what he always does.
Sacrifice himself.
Sacrificing himself to a life of misery and loneliness. Sacrificing himself to an existence of his nakama hating and resenting him. Sacrificing himself to eternal guilt and agony that he attacked and betrayed those he loves most in this world.
Unfortunately, I believe that Sanji has not realized how much Luffy's logic and ability to read his crew has drastically increased. Luffy read him like a fucking book and refused to fall for Sanji's game. All it did was tighten Luffy's grip on Sanji's metaphorical leash. Luffy is incredibly selfish. He wasn't letting go of what was his and that was devastating to Sanji because now he has to live with the memories of beating the shit out of his captain and the fear for his nakama's safety.
___
Anyway, that is my personal view of Sanji's headspace in WCI. It's a very deep and drawn out topic but I don't have the spoons to expand further. sorry.

so... i finished the 2.7 quest...
Tumblr media
hahaha....
spoilers utc
also this is. a long post. an incredibly long one. haha.
overall ? i loved this quest. might be one of my favourites simply because of the emotions that can be felt when playing this and honestly? this is one of the reasons why i love this game so much. the writing and story are just so heartfelt and really strike a chord
i was genuinely having a meltdown over so many parts bc man... my emotions got played with so bad... when i get u hsr devs.... hsr devs when i get u.....
more of my thoughts will be expanded in the segments but sunday and robin and tingyun/fugue .... hugging them giving them lots of kisses and head pats and warmth bc they need it and so do i ;w;
okay anyway so first part is gonna be abt sundays story of the quest bc ourgh... what if it killed me.... and this will be going in order of events minus tingyun/fugues storyline (to the best of my ability at least) bc she has her own segment after sunday !!
anywho to start off :
Tumblr media
one) he looks stunning here with even half his face not shown, and two) wDYM BY WEARY PASSERBY??? STOP TORMENTINGT HIM LET HIM BE HAPPY ANS FREE ANBFDK
Tumblr media
OHHH MY LORD.... him using the telepathy.... ohhhh.... AND HE LOOKED GOOD DOING IT !!
INSANITY
wonweek: renowned workaholic, mr workday. he works for me. you don't know him?
MR WORKDAY WORKING FOR WONWEEK HELLO
sobbing at this interaction tho bc
Tumblr media
😭😭😭 and the way sunday just moves on afterwards LIKE ???
the imagery...
sunday: sometime before i turned six. like most boys would, i tried to fly with my ear feathers, only to fall into a pit. i almost broke my halo.
HELLO THIS WAS SO???? A BOYFAILURE (REAL) 😭
imagine baby sunday trying to fly with his ear feathers ;w;;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but omg... hello the brainwashing into making others mistake his appearance isnt actually him.... honestly tho knowing that its welt he probably will know/realise its sunday
Tumblr media
I KNEW IT OUR WELT WOULDNT BE SO EASILY FOOLED !!! but also face card... both of them.....
welt: ...i left my home in a hurry, too... i know how it feels.
throwing up...
ALSO THAT SCENE WITH ALL THE TINGYUNS AND WELT SAYING THE AE WERE TASKED WITH SENDING ONE PASSENGER BACK HOME OHH IM GOING TO BE SICK.... not her multiplying into multiple tingyuns due to sneezing non-stop all bc a pepeshi roped her, us, and march into a try nto to laugh challenge through eating a sweet 😭
wonweek: pleased to meet you, fair lady. and you, of course... you're the heavyweight who pummeled this control freak?
wonweek... pls... im gonna throw up at this joke abt the express ramming into boss sunday.... and his nickname for sunday being sunny...
crying. BUT ALSO SUNDAY CALLING TINGYUN "my lady" LIKE HELLOOOOOO ROYALTY AU IN MY BRAIN GOING HARD RN AND TURNING GEARS OOHHHH the duke sunday series... gonna be well fed with this content oml
Tumblr media
FUCK OFF
welt: how did you know she would be here? sunday: i didn't. i had a hunch and decided to try my luck. it seems i can be lucky sometimes. welt: it's not like you to leave things to luck. sunday: i'm trying to change, too. welt: you don't need to be a bystander in this scenario. go on ahead. sunday: you're not worried i'll take the opportunity to escape? welt: i believe you're the kind of person that has the ability and desire to use everything to your advantage... but that "everything" does not include miss robin. sunday: ...thank you.
FUCK YOU
welt: you... don't intend to reveal your true identity to her? sunday: both parties don't have to be aware that this is a farewell. // ...i shouldn't put her at risk for my selfishness.
FUCK THIS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FUCK IT ALL OH MY GOD
his soft expression knowing that this is him taking the first step and saying goodbye... and robin not knowing its him... but she probably does know this random ass dreamweaver is her beloved older brother bc halovian telepathy, sibling connection, and also the fact that the writers dont want anyone to be happy bc clearly having her actually know it was him but sunday not knowing that robin knows is the best fucking idea ever hahahaha
Tumblr media
robin: you're very philosophical, miss wonweek. you remind me of someone i know.
SHE FUCKING KNBOWS OJH MYG ODJA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
robin.... her saying all the things she couldnt say before to sunday but can say now bc he thinks she doesnt know its him and wont necessarily run away from it unless he wants to make her suspicious abt his identity (that she already saw through) and hopes that at least these words can get through to him purely bc of the fact this is possibly the only time she can speak her true thoughts ;w;;;
AND HER EXPRESSION HERE WHEN SHE SAID THIS LINE???? AND ONLY THE LOWER HALF OF SUNDAYS FACE BEING SHOWN ??????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the eyes are the window to the soul.... haha.... ha..... a..............
im literally ugly sobbing rn. like. i was already crying when she recognised it was him this whole dialogue segment is making me unable to eat my pasta im crying that much im going to throw up and pass out oh my fucking god
sunday: the second jigsaw piece. is this a pair of wings, or a decoration made of feathers? robin: maybe it's somewhere in between the two. it's a pair of broken wings. sunday: ...we should keep looking. robin: it's okay. let's use this one.
what iof i have an aneurysm
Tumblr media
ALSO FUCK THIS GAME WITH THE CHARMONY DOVE PUZZLE PIECE AND THEN PLAYING THE INSTRUMENTAL OF IF I CAN STOP ONE HEART FROM BREAKING AS SOON AS WE COMPLETE THE PUZZLE LIKE THIS ISNT EVEN PASTA IM EATING ANYMORE ITS MY SALTY TEARS WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS GAME DOING
sunday: soon, i shall travel to those unfamiliar stars, none of which i recognise. but as long as you continue to gaze upon them from here— then those unfamiliar stars will one day become the place of our reunion.
Tumblr media
actually about to throw up my pasta like... WDYM HE JUST LEFT HER WHILE SHE WAS DISTRACTED BY LETTING THE CHARMONY DOVE GO FREE AND THEN HER SAD EXPRESSION WHEN SHE REALISED HE LEFT AND THEN SAID ALL THIS OH MY FUCJLSDFHASF
and then just.
Tumblr media
this entire scene with welt ... sobbing he is so so father... went from enemies to "ur my son now." AND SHARING HIS NAMES MEANING AND EXPERIENCES TOO HELLO???? also wonweek....
Tumblr media
FACE CARD SO LETHAL I CRODE
but him severing his halo from him after the ordeal... to prevent the family from tracking him down and to feel pain to stay awake and to enter the dreamscape as an ordinary person.... hello hi i am going to perish yet again what.
welt: is that how mr wonweek came into this world? wonweek: hmph, no, you wouldn't believe the real story even if he told you. sunday: he was born from an accident, one you're actually quite familiar with... it was that try-not-to-laugh challenge. quite embarrassing, to be honest. i was roaming around as an ordinary person when i unfortunately fell into that pepeshi's trap. the prank that fragmented miss tingyun also divided my fragile self into two.
hello this was a ride and a half bc ur telling me wonweek is a FRAGMENT/THE OTHER HALF of sunday????? AND ALL BC OF THAT PRANK HELLO THATS SO 😭 hes just a boy... he has his silly moments.......
but also welt saying "regardless of the outcome, you will have a witness. i will be waiting for you in the audience." to sunday before he has the final confrontation and farewell with wonweek means a lot to him knowing there is someone waiting for him, esp after his inner doubts and that passing comment where he admits he thinks it could be he who perishes as opposed to wonweek, despite knowing the conclusion being he comes out on top.
Tumblr media
AND WONWEEKS SHOCKED FACE OHFSDJK
but honestly the entirety of sundays speech to wonweek in this scene was so....
admitting that the loss of control after leaving penacony made him scared along with his fear of the unknown, and wonweek retaliating by saying no one can control anything, and then sunday admitting to wonweek how his presence made him realise not all surprises are bad and that hes grateful he can say "i truly dislike you" to him in person because despite all the qualities wonweek possesses that sunday envies (having the ability to joke around, freely express his thoughts, openly share his dislike for a person or his fondness for them; such as expressing his love for all of /her/ (robins) songs), he doesnt wish to become like wonweek for his dislike of frivolous people.
even despite not having the qualities he wishes to have, sunday refuses to stray from his principles and make a change in his own way.
ourgh... my heart.... i love him so much im crying just typing this out.
wonweek: this isn't like you at all. did you lose your mind after being run over by the express, or were you possessed by that ipc gambler?
WONWEEK UR SO 😭😭 ANOTHER RAMMED BY EXPRESS JOKE I CANT
sunday: whether it's us merging or one of us disappearing, i'll leave the tuning to fate, and see if i can embrace all that i detest. only then will i truly be able to walk among the living in their world.
he says. as he stares at the portrait of of his former self.
LIKE
Tumblr media
LOOK AT IT
even faceless he is so handsome....... but all the hands...
wonweek: but what if you can't do it? sunday: well, that's out of my hands. it will just prove that i'm still the same person... the person who always disappoints his sister...
ourgh... yamero... yamero kudesai..... U WERE NEVER A DISAPPOINTMENT TO ROBIN SHE JUST WISHED U WOULD LET HER INTO UR WORLD A BIT MORE AND CONFIDE IN HER AND LET HER SHARE UR BURDENS AND NOT SHOULDER EVERYTHING URSELF AND RUN URSELF INTO RUIN ON UR OWN WHEN SHE IS THERE AND CARES AND IS WILLING TO CARRY THAT BURDEN FOR U IF THAT IS WHAT IT TAKES AND IUSDIOGHSD
i hate them. i really do.
wonweek: i don't have much to say. but as it's time to part ways, here's one last piece of advice. when telling jokes, be sincere. don't sweat the details, and above all, don't explain them every time. ah, nevermind. maybe it's better for you not to joke at all. sunday: no objections from me.
and here i thought wonweek was gonna give some soulcrushing words only for it to be abt sundays dry humour. or lack thereof.
wonweek: this is so annoying. how did i become so dull? // ... // well, despite everything, try not to be too hard on yourself. there will always be people who are sad. sunday: mm.
nvm a tear leaked out at this.
Tumblr media
THAT CUTSCENE OH MY DAYS HELLO ??? and this composition... it goes so hard.... like what..... also the fact robin is the first one to lead in my party haha :D
sobbing
Tumblr media
wonweeks smile after reaching out to sudnay one last time before disappearing... and then sunday saying "on this eigth day, i grant myself departure" WITH HIS HALO COMING BACK LIKE WHAT THAF
welt: well, how should i address you now? mr sunday, or mr wonweek? sunday: whichever you prefer. he's probably mocking me from inside right now.
SOBBING HELLO
welt: this shared journey is my way of repaying you. after all— you are one of my trailblazing goals.
SOBBING AGAIN HELLO
sunday: while i lack the will to trailblaze, nor can i become a true nameless... i admire your convictions. perhaps, what i need, more than asceticism, is knowledge. therefore, after leaving penacony, would you consider letting me... come aboard the express and travel with you for now?
SOBBING AGAIN AGAIN HELLO IM GONNA CRY HES GONNA BE IN THE PARLOUR CAR HES GONNE BE IN ALL THE UNFORSEEABLE PATCHES HES GONNA GO TO PLANETS WITH US HES GONNA LEARN MORE ABOUT HUMANITY AND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE FREE AND HAPPY WITH US HES GONNA GROW TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON FOR HIMSELF AND BE A PERSON HIS SISTER CAN BE PROUD OF (even tho shes plenty proud of him no matter what but he is a blind man so) AND !!
Tumblr media
THROWS UP LOOK AT HIM
sunday: i learn the most valuable lessons from my past opponents. please say whatever's on your mind.
i love you. lets get married and live happily ever after.
but oh my god i cant believe it... he is finally a part of the ae.... ohg my god im going to explode
haha... anywho now that im done crying over sunday and robin im now going to cry over fugue bc ????
order of events minus sunday storyline (again, to the best of my ability) :
OH MY GOD TINGYUN/FUGUE ....
Tumblr media
sobs this cutscene where all the tingyuns merged together.. .
BUT ALSO WHEN WONWEEK SAID HE NEARLY DIED AND THEN PROCEEDED TO PASS OUT AFTER TRYING TO TUNE THE TINGYUN FRAGMENTS???
maybe it had smth to do with phantylias remnants?? since it was all red and stuff and shes an emanator iirc while he is a part of sunday... or maybe its bc the destruction is within her body after phantylia attacked her and the other merchants before taking her body....
Tumblr media
this cg... and honestly this whole scene was heartbreaking bc imagine waking up and discovering ur on the cusp of life and death after getting ambushed and attacked by a lord ravager, everyone else but u died, u have a lack of mobility bc otherwise u would be in unimaginable pain from remnants of destruction stuck with u for the rest of ur life, and u have to adapt to using a new/modified appendage (her tail) like???? god...
ruan mei: with this, the debt between the traveling merchant and me is clear.
BUT HELLO LUOCHA MENTION??? does this confirm that what he was carrying in the coffin was actually tingyuns body? and he brought her to ruan mei in a chance to save her??
omg... what if i cried...
Tumblr media
tingyun ... holds u gently...
AND SHUT UP
yukong: i've imagined this moment many times. i was worried i might embarrass myself in front of you. i even rehearsed every word beforehand. but now it seems it was unnecessary. tingyun, i'm here to take you home.
MOTHER YUKONG CAME TO PICK HER UP IM GONNA😭😭
tingyun: madam yukong, i wasn't expecting it to be you. what a wonderful surprise! yukong: i wanted to come because... after all, it's you who's coming home. tingyun: yeah, me, of all people...
so. um. this made my heart break more than it should have. tingyun implying that it shouldnt have been her... im gonna end it all... AND TO YUKONG TOO I DONT EVEN WANT TO IMAGINE HOW SHES FEELING ESP AFTER EVERYTHING THATS HAPPENED ON THE LUOFU + HER BEING THE MOST DESPERATE AND DETERMINED WHEN SEARCHING FOR TINGYUN 🫠 and then to be told by tingyun that she doesnt really want to go back to the luofu...
yukong: if you wish to go home... i'll support you, no matter what the others say. tingyun: then i'm glad. i shall save you the trouble of hearing what those people may say.
dying. dies. die. dead.
STOP IT.
Tumblr media
ITS THE KIDDIE TINGYUN FRAGMENT OH MY FUCKHFL
Tumblr media
tingyun: this flight was a turning point in my life. // even to this day, this thrill still courses through me. yukong: that hasn't changed? tingyun: never.
FUCKKKKKKKKKKKK
dhmu... crying in the clerb.... ourgh... and when yukong told tingyun she is just an innocent survivor of war, only for tingyun to say the same for yukong..... and yukong saying she does also wish to make THEM pay but are merely pawns in the game.... head in hands why cant everyone be happy... (i giggled when tingyun said she would make THEM sneeze a few times, when talking abt her being an unplanned player in the game due to her survival kdjf)
also seeing screwllum with himeko was a jumpscare i wholeheartedly welcome HELLO HI SIR HEHEE his voice in cn... sighs.... also when himeko said "they're probably... having a lot of fun already..." like haha... if only u knew we were facing a crisis with lots of tingyuns miss himeko... AND RATIO WAS THERE TOO TALKING WITH SCRELLUM WHEN U GO TO VISIT HIMEKO WITH TINGYUN OMG HI BELOVED HEHEHHEHEHEH
AND THEN THE ENDING CUTSCENE ????? HERTA SPACE STATION ?????????? WE SEE ASTA AGAIN ???????? HERTAS DOLLS FUCKING DEAD IN HER OFFICE ?????????????????
Tumblr media
THE MADAM HERTA ??????????? AND HER TALKING TO NOUS OH MY FUCK IM NOT READY FOR THE NEXT UPDATES WITH AMPHOREUS WHAT AN END TO THE QUEST AND WHAT AN END TO PENACONY

My thoughts on One Piece so far. (Spoilers)
I doubt anyone will read this but I wanted to document my thoughts so far on One Piece to distract myself from some hardships. Sorry if my English is bad, I do have a learning disability
I didn't get into the anime until earlier in 2024 so this is my unfiltered thoughts as a new fan of the show.
I found getting into the first season hard, I felt it dragged on. I dropped it for a month after Luffy picked up Zoro. I gently don't have much thoughts on that besides my boyfriend begging me to pick up the show again. I regained interest when being introduced to Usopp. Ill be honest, I did find his character to be annoying, wasn't a fan of the twink claiming to be captain. Although he did grow on me over time while in Loguetown. It's also hard to not like Luffy, he's just funny. Luffy is also strangely perspective at times when you don't ever expect him to be.
I also don't have much to say on when they pick up Sanji, his story was okay for me. I do like all the Straw hats so far, but I find I like Sanji's character more when he isn't simping. Power to Nami for using his simping to her advantage.
Nami's story is really when I started loving the show. Nami's past had me sobbing, I had yet to cry. Normally I'm easy to get emotional, but so far the show hadn't tugged on those heartstring of mine till Arlong and the village. Now I can't look at a tangerine with out thinking about Nami. I love Nami and so far she might be my favorite. Nami is the most selfish and selfless character I've ever seen. She put her selfishness a side for peoples when the time calls for it.
Vivi is also one of my favorite. Although you can tell that it was a sudden decision to make her a princess. It felt so off but I grew to except it.
Meeting Chopper had me tearing up, not gonna lie. I love Kureha and I'm sad we won't see her again. I just love my lil deer boy. Best boy, good boy.
The Alabasta ark, so far my favorite ark so far. I don't think there was a time were I had a break to calm down because of all the tention. You can't not love Vivi through all of it. I was trying not to cry with the clock tower scene. Vivi begging everyone to stop fighting with all her might because that's all she could do had me struggling. Also Zoro some how getting lost in an active war zone had me shocked. Like dude active ran away from the noise of gunshots and thought "yeah checks" out while looking for a bomb. BUD please.
Skypiea, not going to lie, it was mid. I genuinely had a hard time getting through it. I did love Wyper and Aisa, but it felt like a drag. Keep in mind there was no filler to skip in that ark. I've been skipping filler episodes that don't protein to the story. If I were to watch one piece over again, I would skip it. We also did skip a mini filler ark, according to my boyfriend it was annoying and not worth it.
Water 7, I'm not finished with this ark yet, but so far I'm enjoying it. I wasn't a fan of Franky at the start for obvious reason, but he grew on me. Usopp feeling useless made me tear up. The fight between Luffy and Usopp was gut wrenching because the fight was truly for nothing. The ship couldn't be fixed fighting wouldn't change it. I also started liking Sanji more because of him stopping Luffy from saying something he would regret.
You can tell Sanji cares more than he lets on with the guys, and him making up an excuse with Chopper to warn Usopp about Aqua Laguna really did show he truly likes Usopp. I genuinely like Sanji when he isn't simping. I hear it gets worse like him actually barking or almost dying from a nose bleed, and I'm not excited about it. Im hoping we get into Robins backstory this ark, I do like her. I have a feeling I'll be crying again. Currently I'm not the part were There trying to get Robin back and Usopp is trying to convince Robin.

Jane of Lantern Hill Ch 25 to 30
Hahahaah "Mrs. Bob Barker"
Auntie Em gets to the heart of Robin fast 'pretty and silly'. Both Andrew and Robin seemed pretty young when they got married. Let's say Robin was close to 16 or 18 and Andrew may have been in his late 20s? Robin loved Jane from the start and Andrew needed some more time to adjust and that cemented the moment he saw Jane see his as Dad. Maybe he was scared before that or afraid of losing that perfect golden happiness.
Robin had one brave, foolish moment to run away with Andrew. Grandmother tried to bribe and coerce Robin to come back with promises of gifts and letters.
Irene dug into Robin fast, early and constantly. Robin didn't have the same intuition, was young, alone and in a new marriage. It's little wonder that her confidence was slowly eroded. At this point you see some start of Jane's uh, not quite contempt but clear minded sharpness to Robin? I think at this point her respect started to fade and the mix of a need to protect Robin and a "well you have no backbone' thought process came from.
I do respect Andrew for having the instinct to wait and reach out when Jane makes an actual noise and lets her fill the space to talk. He offers his unaltered perspective - when he was a young man meeting Robin after the horrors of WW1. All he wanted to know was that Jane wasn't brought up to hate him. Though I wish that had happened sooner I can't imagine it would have been easy to ask for Jane to visit.
It seems like a lot of their basis of relationship comes from a romanticism of beauty and the unknown. Andrew just out of the trenches seeing gorgeous happy Robin, untouched by anything ugly and Robin, seeing Andrew as a sophisticated , older man with poetry rolling from each word and full of adoration. it's no wonder these two connected. They tried to build on infatuation with love and as a later rant will come you YMMW will see how successful that was!
Andrew brings up romance and moonlight- and adds a bit of cyncism there, he's not wrong. His and Robin's relationship was built on a fairy tale and as time went on the Real World was a bit too much. Andrew was so taken with the fairy tale of it all that when Jane came it was hard to adjust - but he came around once he saw Jane pick him out as Dad- maybe that was selfish or maybe it was him realizing he was valued and needed?
Robin from the get-go poured all her love and care into Jane until it was nearly overbearing but she never had someone that needed her before! Both come from understandable points, and both are too young and inexperienced at the time to work around it. Also there area massive blind spots, inexperience, Andrew with Aunt Irene etc..
Jane has the experience of being a 'outsider' and youth to see the clear line of how 'things should be'
Regret and old longing permeate the last bits of Jane's time with Andrew. Irene adds the last bit of poison doubt to make Jane think that all this was a passing whim for Andrew where that's far from the truth.
Here the time passing accelerates fast; Jane goes home and reunites with Robin who is delighted and expecting the old Jane. The same hits with Grandmother who tries to hit on every small criticism. Jane had already gained so much independence and ease that she both can rise above any BS and feel ill at ease for having most of herself in PEI and a part in Gay Street!

This is my non comprehensive and unfinished list of Drift Compatible pairs
Drift compatible
Leverage
Eliot and parker:
They just are, they both love hardison but he’s better at being tech support outside the drift. Plus, they really only trust him to be monitoring them. They both know how to take emotion out of the problem when necessary.
Person of Interest
John and Shaw:
Chaos twins, need I say more? Actually I’m gonna, people were a bit afraid trying to find a pairing for them because of their pasts (epecially john and Cara who were a brutal team that wrecked John when Cara died) and were afraid they might make things worse for each other, but they actually leveled each other out to a shocking degree because the machine (a doctor in this case) saw what most people don’t, that they deeply care about justice, they’re compassionate, and have a strong sense of right and wrong-it’s just that for them the end justifies the means to a degree others might not feel.
Doctor Who
Ten and Donna:
I think Donna could also be compatible with nine, and it takes her a minute with ten, but they do get there, they make each other better.

Kal and Moash former:
ok this one is odd because I think they were pushed to pilot together and it worked for a bit, especially whenever kaladin’s mental health is declining, but they stopped him piloting because of that and when he got better he couldn’t drift with Moash anymore. Moash found someone who’s destructive like him and Kaladin ended up with Syl. Shallan and him are oddly compatible but there was a bit too much tension with Adolin and Kaladin could tell she was hiding something, which after Moash freaked him out.
Adolin and Maya
Adolin used to drift with Dalinar but Dalinar retired and he stayed a loner until Maya, he was compatible with Renarin but Renarin was too sick to actually pilot. Maya is so quiet people didn’t think it would work but Adolin is used to Renarin and isn’t as much of a dumb jock as people think. People don’t understand that Dalinar and Adolin worked well because they fight the same AND they’re both very smart.
Stranger things
Steve and Robin:
Robin didn’t trust him at first but their first drift test percentage was so shockingly high that afterword they spent like days together getting to know each other. Most likely people in the base to be throwing potential partners at each other
Psych
Shawn and Gus:
https://www.tumblr.com/hmslusitania/745431572726038528/shawn-and-gus-are-drift-compatible-but-under-no
Owl House
Amity and Hunter:
I think this one would take some work, but say they got paired together in their overachiever/my worth is tied to performance phase. They would fall out of synch for a bit, but would come back together later courtesy of Luz (who I don’t think is great at the drift -following the rabbit is an issue- but can spot good pairings/pilots a mile away, and helps people get to where they need to be mentally) (side note, I could see her as an adult actually being great at temporary pairings, once she’s self assured enough that’s she’s stable in herself she can adjust to be what a person needs for emergency situations)
Star Wars
Anakin and Obi-wan (pre darkside):
I don’t think I need to justify this one, but Obi-wan suffers extremely when the bond is broken in drift
Han and Chewbacca:
Similar to the Shawn/gus scenario on the surface, but they will actually refrain from major property damage (probably)
Jyn and Cassian:
This one also is a growing to be compatible situation, but they fit better than they expected, he thought she was too selfish, she thought he wouldn’t trust her or compromise, turns out they work wonderfully together
Baze and Chirrut:
It took them a few years but they’re like the most stable and dependable pairing, despite Chirruts tendency to charge towards danger
I’m definitely right about all of these but I will accept additions!

Gotham Knights 1x09, Dark Knight of the Soul With extra big thank you (I extra loved this ep) to Elle Lipson and Devon Balsamo-Gillis
There was so much going on in this ep, but Robins. Always get to me the most with the Robins.
Let me attempt to sum up.
Batkids group in conflict with each other. Steph frantic about Turner, Duela angry/fighiting/scared on behalf of Turner, Carrie still having to be the leader and live up to the legacy she feels responsible for, the lives she feels responsible for--the Gotham Knights as a group, and for the people of Gotham and Turner. Like her mother, Carrie carrying the world on her shoulders.
A lot going on with the GK's relationships. Steph and Harper teaming up, Harper's increasingly visible crush on Steph, Cullen calling Harper on her crush, Harper's protest-too-much denying the crush, Cullen worried that Harper has fallen for someone who won't fall in love with her back. The whatever is going on among Harper, Steph, Turner, and Turner and Duela right now. Personally, I am team Sharper and Turner/Duela. "No agenda, just you" was a big deal for Duela to just say it out loud like that. Because we might expect her to keep pretending. To make a joke, make up something about why it's some practical benefit to her if Turner lives. But she was so HONEST about it. Once Duela cares, she goes all in and isn't hiding.
Duela and Carrie's oppositional approaches to saving Turner. Carrie wants to save Turner, but not at the expense of further harm to the entire city. She cares about Turner. She cares about Gotham. Duela, who is used to caring only for herself, and isn't community-minded like Carrie, wanting to turn the electrum over to the Owls for Turner. Saving one person vs protecting many. But it's not that Carrie doesn't desperately want to save her friend, and it's not that Duela is actually being selfish. Carrie ultimately hands the real electrum over to the Owls when it's the only way left to save Turner's life. Duela, who has always looked after number one, caring about saving someone else. Turner -- is a selfless mindset, for her. And she cares about the city too, despite her protestations. She seemed really happy and relieved about Cullen's plan that would allow them to save Turner without doing further harm to Gotham. And who is it that hands the electrum over to the Owls after all that, to save Turner? Carrie. So many wonderful layers there. There's no good or bad to Duela and Carrie's emotional sparring over this. Flip sides of the same understandable impulses.
Lincoln is manipulating Turner. Who killed Turner's parents? I don't think it really was Bruce, but Lincoln needs Turner to think so, and tempts Turner to become their new Talon. The thing is, Bruce really might have been driven by guilt, if he felt he failed. If he felt it was his failure to save Turner's parents, so he took Turner in, why Turner of all the city's orphans. Because maybe Batman knew about the Court of Owls and maybe was trying to save Turner's parents and he failed. How very Bruce to carry the guilt, even if he's not the actual murderer. Or maybe he did kill them but...I need to see more to get there. Is the GK version of Bruce AU enough to abandon one of the core Batman tenets, which is not killing? Or is this a misdirect. Even though Turner denounces Lincoln's bs...I think the doubts are planted. The drug worked on Turner's subconscious, playing on questions and doubts Turner has, and Lincoln pushed it along with his words. Doesn't mean Bruce is the murderer but there are things he kept from Turner.
Harvey figuring out his body has been used by...something. That he's brainwashed, or he's become aware some other personality is taking him over. That he didn't do the things, that other guy did. Not sure yet how much Harvey thought it's him being manipulated by the Court, or if he fears his alt personality is taking over. The video Two Face left for him sure would take care of any doubts he had. Not the Court manipulating him. Two Face, the other personality, cohabiting Harvey's brain and using Harvey's body without him remembering it. Misha fuckin' Collins, everybody. The range.
Big, big love for the Cullen and Carrie scene in front of the belfry clockface and also one of the most visually beautiful shots in the whole series so far. "Giving the bad guys the means to live forever is not exactly out of the bat-manual." "No. But it could be the first chapter in the Book of Robin." "I always wanted to be a hero. Ever since I first saw the bat-signal light up the sky. I just--I didn't know what it would mean having to choose which lives to save and which to sacrifice..." "We're going to keep showing up. Keep fighting. Because Gotham's worth fighting for. You are what's keeping Batman's legacy alive." MY HEART.

It's a love story (baby just say yes) Chapter 2
Chapter 1 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
“How’s university treating you, Buckley?” Eddie asked a little louder than usual, to get himself be heard over the pop music blasting in that freshmen party. Eddie offered her a very much illegal beer, and she accepted it with a cheeky grin.
It was the last weekend before Christmas break, where almost everyone came back home for the festivities. Of course, the break only lasted two weeks, and it was way less than an appropriate amount of time to actually throw a rager, but, hey, most people there were eighteen or nineteen. It’s not like they actually needed a reason to bring booze, and weed, and obnoxious music.
Robin gave Steve the call a couple weeks before, and it only took Steve to mention it to Eddie for him to be on board. A weekend trip to Chicago to see Buckley and party surrounded by faceless people who actually were not worried about Munson being a mass murderer and also see again his favorite lesbian after months? Abso-fucking-lutely yes.
Well, truth be told, it’s not like he wasn’t going to see Robin just a week after that, she was going to be in Hawkins for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but, come on, he wanted to visit. Plus, that would mean a four hour car ride with Steve, and there was no way he was going to refuse.
So everything in this plan was calling Eddie in, and after all the shit he’d been through, a selfish part of him actually thought that he deserved to have a little fun.
Sue him.
“Actually pretty good,” Robin said. She took a sip of beer, making an unfortunate grimace at the taste. “Classes are interesting, but some professors are shit , and I’ve met some people that are, um, how do I put this? More open minded, generally speaking, than in Hawkins, so. Yeah, I’m having a blast here.”
Robin granted him with a coy smile. Eddie took a second to appreciate her, she was stunning that night. She was wearing a lot of silvery jewelry, and a smudge and sparkly eyeliner made her eyes look impossibly large. She had a pink lock of hair now. Big worn out Doc Martens and purple plaid flannel over a cut off gray shirt tucked in belted and high-waist ripped jeans.
God, she looked beautiful (and not because of her very much flattering outfit, because she was wearing an attitude where she actually didn’t feel awkward in her own skin anymore), but he still couldn’t understand how it took him more than three months to realize that she was friends with Dorothy too.
“Yeah?”
“Yup.”
Eddie bit his cheek and smiled, dimples showing. She was busy looking at her red solo cup. Too busy.
“Okay, Birdie, spill the tea.”
Robin looked at him, arching an eyebrow.
“I’m not—” Robin started, exasperated. “It’s not like—”
Oh, wow. So, there was really something bothering her. She took a deep breath and then looked back at Eddie, soft expression.
“It’s nothing, really.”
“It doesn’t feel like nothing.”
Eddie thought for a second what he was going to say next.
“Look, I know I’m not your platonic soulmate, but if you want to talk about anything, you know I’m your humble servant, Ladybird,” Eddie said, with a compliant smile, hand in over his heart. “If you want your other half over here to spill your guts, I can go after him and drag his squeezy ass back here.”
Robin cackled at that.
“And if you don’t want to talk at all tonight, we can focus on how that hot punk girl over there has been checking you out for ever, now.”
Robin turned around and interchanged glances with her, who gave her a brief, suggestive smile. Robin bit her lip and looked at Eddie, hiding a smile.
“That’s Gwen, she’s in my philosophy class. She’s smoking hot , indeed,” Robin said.
Eddie looked at her with a wry face. He made a wordless gesture to go for it with her.
“We’ve already actually, um—”
Robin took a little bit too long sip of her nasty beer. Eddie smiled widely, and laughed.
“Oh, Buckley, look at you, you are such a menace now,” Eddie teased.
“Shut up, Munson. It was just one time.”
“So, you actually got to learn a thing or two from Steve, huh?”
She slapped his arm, muting him to shut up again, but Eddie only laughed harder. She was going full red now.
“Oh, come on. It’s a good thing! Did you have fun?”
“Yeah, yeah, I did. It was fun, but, can we just not—?”
“Okay, fine.”
Eddie raised his hands in surrender.
Robin looked around, and then Eddie realized.
“You’re waiting for someone, aren’t you?”
Robin sighed and looked at him.
“And here I thought that you were expecting to spend the night with us, your friends,” Eddie said, in a dramatic tone.
“I am. It’s just— Do you wanna dance?” she blurted out, fast. Robin was acting weirder than usual tonight, Eddie could tell.
“To Madonna ?” Then Eddie realized that Gwen was approaching. The clawing hand on his forearm and the panicked look on Robin’s eyes was enough for him to accept.
He took her by the hand and guided her to the mass of sweating, smelling bodies, and not a word was said, when he spun her around and they started dancing.
Okay, there were some blank spaces in this narrative that Eddie didn’t have. Robin looked so confident just a minute ago, and then this Gwen punk appeared and she seemed to want to crawl out of her own skin again.
“Birdie, I don’t mean to pry but you’re fucking weird tonight. Do you need help or something?”
“Can’t we just dance?”
“Babe, the weird thing about you wanting to dance is that you can’t bet to not trip over your own feet while just standing . What’s wrong? Is this girl, is she bothering you or something?”
“No!”
Eddie cursed Steve in his mind. Where was he? He was supposed to go down to grab some drinks but that was forever ago. Whatever that was upsetting Robin, this was Steve’s field. Not that Eddie didn’t know how to comfort her, or that he wasn’t to be trusted, but it was clearly that she would feel more comfortable with him around.
Eddie grabbed Robin’s hand.
“I’m going to get Steve.”
“No, no, no!” She looked really panicked. Robin pursed her lips, stopped dancing and cursed under her breath. “Fuck, okay, come with me.”
Eddie followed her lead. She took him out of the dorm, and crossed the crowded hall to the stairs that went to the roof. The building roof was empty, except for some smokers.
It was a quiet place.
Eddie observed Robin. He let her find the words and the strength to actually tell him whatever she needed to share.
He didn’t pressure her.
Eventually, she turned to him, and took a deep breath.
“There’s something I need to tell Steve, but I’m not sure if our friendship will survive this bomb.”
Eddie was perplexed.
“What? Robin, what are you talking about? Steve will never break your friendship, he loves you.”
“He won’t once he finds out.”
Eddie frowned his eyebrows. He saw her sitting on the floor, and he sat in front of her without saying anything.
“You were right before, I am expecting someone to show up. I’m—shit, I’m kind of seeing someone. Well, not kind of. I’m seeing someone.”
“But Birdie, that’s great. Wait, is it that Gwen? That’s why you didn’t want to be seen with her before? Didn’t want Steve to find out before you could tell him?”
“What? No. This kind of has to do a lot with her but, no, Gwen and I—It was at the beginning of the semester, we started talking and she was nice. It kind of reminded me a little bit of you—”
“Gross.”
“—and it had been like three weeks, and I was missing you guys a lot, and I wasn’t making any friends, and she was just like me , and she’s so hot, god damn, and I didn’t know how it happened but we had sex—” Robin stopped to take a shaky breath in and calm herself. “And don’t get me wrong, it was so hot. I wanted it, okay? And—And she was so nice after. But then I felt like shit, like the day after, and I didn’t know why because I wanted it so bad . But maybe I made a mistake because I wasn’t ready. I—” Robin gulped and looked away. “I hadn’t even kissed anyone before her. I didn’t even tell Vickie I had a crush on her. I had my first kiss and my first time in the same night, and I was so confused the day after. So confused, Eddie. I wanted it. I really, really did, but I felt like shit. Like I was the worst.”
Eddie listened carefully, trying not to interrupt her, but he got himself drowned by the sinking feeling of the understanding.
“I believe that I was going through a lot. Everything was new, I didn’t feel like I had to really hide myself that much, because my family wasn’t around, so. I don’t know, it took me a while to understand that maybe I got overwhelmed, and I felt lonely and maybe I went all the way with Gwen because I just didn’t know what to do with this—this ball of feelings. I felt like shit because—because I know I had my first time for the wrong reasons, and that’s nothing to do with Gwen, because she was splendid before, during and after, believe me, but—” Robin gulped around a lump that was forming on her throat, so Eddie finished the sentence for her.
“You didn’t have feelings for her.”
Robin looked at her hands, slightly nodding. She was playing with a piece of paper that was lying around, destroying it mindlessly.
Eddie felt terrible after hearing that. He felt even worse because he had teased her a little bit about Gwen before. Well, his goddamn mouth.
When Robin didn’t speak for the following minute, Eddie intervened.
“Birdie, I’m so, so sorry that you went through that. You must have felt so lonely and confused. Are you okay now?”
Robin looked at him, and sighed.
“Yeah, I mean. I’d been feeling like shit for weeks until I figured it out, but. Yeah, I don’t know, Eddie,” she flexed her knees, bracing her own legs. “I just don’t think I was ready for it, that’s all.”
Eddie waited a little bit for her to continue, but when he understood she wasn’t going to, he asked:
“Why didn’t you call? You know, we miss you too, a lot . Steve mentions you at least once a day.”
“I was embarrassed.”
“Why? Robin, we wouldn’t have judged you at all! We support you no matter what, I think we could’ve even taken a trip earlier to see you if we knew you were going through this!”
“I know! I know. I shouldn’t have felt that way.”
“I’m not saying that.”
“No, I am. But I felt that way, and I really didn’t want anyone to tell me that, because I already knew. Besides, Steve and I have been talking about my doomed love life for like, ages, and—I just, I don’t know. I got some action and it got me spiraling and I didn’t want to face this conversation with Steve.”
Eddie was going to refute that rambling, but Robin continued.
“ I know ! What you’re going to say, believe me, I know. I should have been able to talk about this with him, and I feel bad that I didn’t, that I—that I called Nancy instead.”
Eddie felt where that was going before she kept speaking. He raised a hand, covering his mouth. His eyebrows frowned, and his eyes were fixed on a very uneasy Robin in front of him.
“I didn’t know Nancy knew about you.”
“That’s because she didn’t. I didn’t tell her before, but—but I called her, and she wasn’t far, and she came by. And we—I don’t know, she’s so sweet and so fearless,” she laughed a bit, her cheeks stained in red. “How is that possible, huh? She can be so frightening, point a gun to your head, but then she’ll do whatever in her hand to make you laugh? To make you feel… less lonely. Not a—not a big error .”
Robin then, after what it felt ages, gazed directly at Eddie, and god, whoever said the eyes were the windows to the soul was so damn right.
“Shit, Robin—”
“She was going to come tonight, too. We were going to tell Steve together.”
Eddie covered his face with his hands.
This was bad.
This was real bad.
Eddie knew for sure that Steve would be happy for them if they were happy together, but he knew Steve. He would be hurt, too, for more than one reason.
Not that long ago, Steve still had inconclusive feelings towards Nancy. They had history together.
Robin, his soulmate, had kept a secret from him, and they shared everything. God, if Eddie knew something about these two is that their friendship hadn’t met any boundaries yet. And this time, Robin didn’t want to talk explicitly to him.
Also, Robin had decided to trust Eddie before Steve, too.
And, well, she apparently had feelings for his first love, so. There was that.
“I’m assuming correctly that what you and Nancy were going to tell Steve tonight is not that you had your first time with Gwen, right?”
Robin nodded, shortly.
“We’ve been—uh, we’ve been seeing each other for a few weeks now.”
“I see,” Eddie said under his breath. But then he frowned and looked at her, “I’m sorry, this is not any of my business, but isn’t it too fast? I mean, the whole Gwen thing, and then you regretted it because you didn’t know what you were feeling, and all that jazz. Are you sure you’re going to be okay? I mean, you two guys are friends, and I know that you know it’s overwhelming this first semester. Robs, are you sure about this? I really, really don’t want you to get hurt. Any of you.”
That included Steve, too.
“Eddie—I had feelings for her before. It’s not—it’s not a rushed thing. I think I’ve been feeling for her this way since—you know.”
“Yeah. Fuck. Yeah, I know.”
Eddie was happy for her. For them both. He really was, truly. But a part of his heart was with Steve, anticipating what was going to be a sad journey for him. He won’t hint how he was truly feeling to Robin or Nancy, but he knew that he would speak his soul to Eddie. And Robin knew Steve as well as Eddie did, now.
And she knew that, too.
“Please, don’t tell any of this to Steve. Not before I do.”
Eddie closed his eyes.
Fuck, he’s shit keeping secrets.
“It’s not my place to say anything,” Eddie said, pained for having to keep yet another secret to Steve.
Robin sighed, relieved.
“Thank you, Eddie.”
“But please, if you plan to do it, do it soon. We all know that he deserves to know.”
Robin nodded. Then he offered her the hand, and she took it. He pulled her in for a hug, and whispered to her ear that he was thankful she trusted him, and that he was glad if she was happy now.
Robin hugged him tighter.
“What about if we go back and look for Harrington? He’s either lost or looking for us.”
Robin nodded, and smiled.
“Yeah. I don’t know where he went.”
Robin and Eddie entered the stairs, passing by a few couples making out in the dark, when they both froze with the sight in front of them.
There, in the privacy of the indoor stairs there was another couple loudly kissing. Hard.
And one of them was Steve, trapped between the wall and the mouth of a six foot two tall, jacked, blond guy.
Two things happened at once.
1. Robin grabbed his arm and pulled Eddie back to the roof, shutting the door, making the sight of Steve devouring another man disappear behind it.
2. Eddie’s heart broke in a million pieces.
Robin dragged him fast to a quiet area, and put both hands on Eddie’s face, forcing him to look at her.
“Eddie, okay, shit. Okay. Eh—”
Robin was about to have a nervous breakdown.
“Listen, Eddie. I know that you’re a friend and to be trusted, but, what we just saw, it never happened, okay?”
“Robin—”
“No, no, I need you to listen. This? This is a dream,” Robin started waving her hands, looking at him straight in the eye. “This is a dream, whatever is happening in those stairs you just dreamed it , capisce ?”
“Jesus, Rob—”
“I’m fucking serious, Eddie,” she said, high pitched, making a few people to look in her direction. Her hands were trembling. She held Eddie’s face in place again. “Holy fucking shit—” she said under her breath, “holy fucking shit!”
Eddie felt like he was on autopilot. He held her arms, keeping her in place.
“It’s okay,” Eddie said, almost without a voice.
“Why are you not freaking out?”
“Because he told me, Robin. That he’s bi. I know he told you, too.”
Robin looked at him and her expression changed.
“I won’t rat him out, okay? It’s fine. It is fine.”
“Eddie—”
“We can stay here to give him—uhm—privacy, yeah? I bet he can’t do this in Haw—Hawkins. He’s entitled to have fun. It’s fine .”
He didn’t remember Robin’s hand were in his face until she started wiping his cheeks with her thumbs.
“Eddie, babe. You’re crying—”
“It’s fine.”
Now he could feel his heart clenching, and all the air being sucked out of the world. He could feel his face growing hotter, and wetter, and his own shoulders shaking almost violently.
Robin lifted her arms and hugged him close. It took him a second or two, but he hugged her back.
“He can’t know. Please, don’t tell him. Please .”
“Okay. Okay.”
She entangled her hands in his hair, and he hugged her tighter. He was shaking.
“ Please ,” Eddie said again.
He blinked a few times, trying to control his own breathing, his shaking, his body.
Eddie let out a sigh and loosened the embrace, until they were not touching anymore. He was under Robin’s gaze, and it took him a bit to calm himself.
When he had enough self control, he spoke again.
“Do you recall the whole capisce speech you gave me? Same here. You never saw any of this. If you think you did, you dreamed it. None of this ever happened, okay?” Eddie said as calmly as he could, but his voice was in a strange forced pitch, and still a little bit shaky.
Robin nodded.
“Yeah. Yeah, okay.”
With a deep breath, Eddie leaned in the wall, facing the skyline of Chicago in the middle of the night. After a few minutes, Robin asked her since when he was feeling that way for Steve, and Eddie shrugged. He couldn’t pinpoint it, really. She joked about now understanding about his squeezy ass.
He laughed a bit, but then he spoke, after a silence and a deep breath, because he was shit keeping his own secrets.
Eddie told her that he’d been feeling like this for Steve for quite a while now. That he didn’t expect them to become friends, that he thought Steve would stop spending time without him after the apocalypse. And then after he recovered. And then, after she and Nancy left for college and school started again.
That everytime he expected Steve to leave, he was surprised because he didn’t. That he noticed every little bit of Steve and he loved every quirk of him, that they became closer, and they trusted each other with their own deep secrets and family history.
That he made him laugh until he couldn’t breathe.
That Steve had become the best part of his day.
That he knew that Steve was still struggling with his own internalized homophobia since he sort of hinted that he felt that he had to fight against it.
That Eddie wanted to come clean, pour his heart into his, give him his everything, and that it would be a problem.
That Eddie knew that he had no future in Hawkins, that he had to leave sooner or later, and he wasn’t sure Steve would do such a thing.
Eddie didn’t want to risk what he had with Steve, even if at the end of the day was not enough .
Eddie kept talking about how much in love he was, how heartbroken, until his voice even out, and two figures came into sight.
“Holy shit, where the hell were you? I’ve been looking for you for ages !” Steve said.
Eddie and Robin turned their heads to him. Then they shared a brief look.
“Look who I found at the party!”
Nancy smiled at them and waved. She had a red cup in her hand, and, if Eddie didn’t know what he did know, he wouldn’t have noticed the look in Nancy’s eyes when she looked at Robin.
“Hi Nance! I thought you weren’t coming.”
“Well, my car broke down, and I tried to call, but no one would pick up.”
Robin and Eddie nodded.
Nancy went next to Robin, and they both looked at the skyline, having a quiet conversation. Steve walked and leaned next to Eddie, also looking at the horizon.
It was obvious that both Nancy and Steve had been drinking.
“I went for drinks and when I came back you and Robin were nowhere to be found. You were here all the time?”
Eddie looked at him. Steve was shamelessly looking back, dead in the eye.
“Yeah, we were here. Sorry we bailed, we didn’t know where you went, either.”
“It’s okay. It’s nice out here.”
Steve offered him his own drink, and Eddie took it with a smile. He took a sip.
The sight of Steve’s lips, pink and kiss swollen didn’t definitely feel like a dagger to his heart.
The soft sigh leaving Steve’s body, while he rested his head on Eddie’s shoulder, looking at the infinity, didn’t definitely feel like dying .
“Did you have fun tonight?”
No.
“Yeah. Did you?”
Please, say no. Lie to me.
“It was meh. I missed you.”
“You did?”
Eddie’s voice was small and fragile, but Steve was drunk enough not to notice. He shouldn’t be looking for reassurance, but some needy part inside of him, needed to hear it, even if it was while he was under the influence of alcohol, and not everything that came out of his mouth was reliable.
“Yeah. You know I do. You make everything better.”
Eddie closed his eyes, swallowing around the lump in his throat.
“And what did you do up here?”
We shared some secrets that we’re keeping from you .
“Nothing, just—Nothing.”
“Hm,” Steve hummed.
Eddie knew the signs. First, the leaning, then, the humming. He didn’t have to look to know that Steve’s eyes were closed.
Eddie lifted a hand to Steve’s hair, lacing his fingers in it. Steve let out a happy breath.
“Is this okay?”
“Yeah, yeah, it’s perfect.”
The four of them eventually sat against the wall, and it took no more than ten minutes until Steve’s breathing even out, and he was fast asleep. How he could sleep anywhere was something that none of them fully understood.
Robin was looking at Eddie, he knew. But Eddie didn’t have it in his heart to look back at her.
He just kept stroking Steve’s hair for a while longer.
For as long as Steve let him do that.
For as long as the secrets don’t destroy him.

Note
Im just soso obsessed with figuring out tim as a character rn i cant stop thinking abt it (ive always been a jason todd girlie but i read ur fic and that angsty twink latched onto me and refuses to let go)
I think u have a pretty good hold of him, especially bc in present comics writers are so intent on elevating tim in spite of other characters (barbara and her hacking skills for example, or any comparison made btw him and any robin, really) that most portrayals of him are so boring it makes me cry, while you on the other hand took the approach to write about his flaws (which are MANY) while still making him charming and handsome (he is so... !!!!)
To me flaws are also tied to not only the good traits of characters but also their core beliefs and ideals so what can you say abt tim?
I know he can be stupidly arrogant and patronizing at times, that he's always idolized the position and legacy of robin and constantly fights his insecurities with this role and his abilities for the job, that he can also be incredibly selfish or outright mean when it comes to being mindful of other people's feelings for the sake of logic (re when he didnt tell tam abt his dad not being actually dead), but at the same time i cant figure out exactly what he wants to do with his role as robin (or red robin) or why he would want to keep going when his main goals first were just making sure bruce wouldnt go down a dark path, im pretty sure he mentioned not being a vigilante forever but his actual goals remain unclear to me
(Im in the midst of reading his solo robin run but ive read red robin so give me a little room for this, you are definitely free to talk abt more of his comics bc i havent read everything yet and everything im saying should be taken with a grain of salt, video essays and the issues ive read can only get me so far)
He could have gained an inherent desire to help people after all his time as robin and the so fucked up shit that happened to him, maybe as a ways to channel his grief (much like dick and jason and bruce, im thinking abt identity crisis here) after he isnt "needed" as robin anymore, but at the same time that would be so tragic because he was supposed to be different to them, he was supposed to remark the importance of robin's role in helping be "batman's light" and not becoming like batman himself, its just so interesting and im still trying to really understand the extent of his character so id just. Love to get ur thoughts and musings on what fuels tim as a character and how you see him
(I dont have this problem with jason bc his moral conflict is very crystal clear to me and also so freaking juicy, his actions are logical and so understable, granted he also hasnt had as much screentime as tim and i can see when writers just Dont Get Him, misunderstanding the original intent of his character coming back etc etc etc, tim has grown and evolved throughout his tim as robin so this might factor in too)
Anyways sorry for the long post i hope this is alright !!! Loved ur fic to bits and ur writing is a blessing mwah
okay HI i am not exaggerating when i say that i have been thinking about this ask since you sent it HAHA tim is just a parasite in my brain he won't let go...
that's the funny thing about portrayals of him today... i feel like people want to elevate him as a potential batman or a character closest to bruce in terms of intelligence and detective skills, which isn't true at all, i think (because, exactly, you have babs Right There), and of course, narratively, this is all a good thing (this post covers it well, i think). it's in the same vein of people making tim out as the most dangerous person in the batfam, should he ever chose to go down the path, which i can partially blame red robin (2009) for with this panel....
Tumblr media
(and i don't think that's true either. he has the potential to be dangerous just like any of the others but i think the ones to really be scared of are babs, dick, and cass but ANYWAY)
in general, red robin 2009 was a bumpy time for tim with bruce's death and his spiraling, but it seemed to really inform what they were going to do with his character. no more time for the civilian life, committing himself much more thoroughly to The Mission like bruce. which is, if you ask me, a negative progression of his character, which isn't bad, exactly, in terms of storytelling, but it feels like all we get are the 'good parts' now -- the intelligence, the status, the resources, and then we don't get to grapple with the consequences.
there were some in red robin 2009 but it was more tim accepting them and making no move to change his actions, which is fine, but now... idk. but i also don't touch modern comics with a ten foot pole so this could just be. Wrong. but that seems like what's going on. so i feel like that's where people get the idea of him being... idk not the Perfect Robin exactly but. you know?
no no yeah i totally agree!
re (because i want to break this down i'm telling you i have Been Thinking About This): at the same time i cant figure out exactly what he wants to do with his role as robin (or red robin) or why he would want to keep going when his main goals first were just making sure bruce wouldnt go down a dark path, im pretty sure he mentioned not being a vigilante forever but his actual goals remain unclear to me
exactly this. he did say that and i've reblogged this at some point i think, showing a panel from robin 1993 where he mentioned he wouldn't be a vigilante forever, then paralleled with that panel i put in earlier from red robin 2009. (there's this post, which touches on another thing about tim trying to set himself apart as having friends and thus not being bruce LOL which is another topic entirely)
i think that was what red robin 2009 was - a negative progression of his character, one that, again, we never really grapple with, especially as dc shoves robin back onto him now.
his motivations are an interesting thing to me, because he did start out coincidentally, saying batman needed a robin but he didn't assume he'd be that robin, it just kind of happened because he was there (well much more went into it but you know?).
but aside from that, i've never gotten the impression tim really does it for people. i mean batman in general has been about the detective work but i think towards the 80s/90s/00s there was a shift to focusing on the people but tim has never really struck me as a hero of the people. he's more about fighting crime than he is about helping people. i think it is partially informed by the genre - re detective comics, etc - but still. he's not like, say, peter parker/spider-man, who is a hero of the people, of the working class. the people are inherent to him as spider-man. tim does it out of duty and responsibility i think, being the light to batman's dark, of course, but he's also very much a teenage boy about being robin - the cool factor, pointedly mentioning he wants to let off steam by knocking around 'criminals' that kind of thing
which doesn't mean he's unfit for it but he operates in an odd grey area as far as his motivation goes, which i think is where we get red robin? he was defined by being robin and he did his job, then he got the boot. so it is very much an identity crisis but we're seeing that negative change as he changes for the worse, for something darker. i mean, yes, red robin 2009 was again bumpy because he was at a very low point in his life but in general, that run was dark for him.
editorial wise, we'd never get to see what they made of it because they did the reboot and started new-52 a few years after. but whether he'd continue being red robin/going down this path, or if he'd shed the identity and go for something lighter... it's hard to say.
i kind of like the thought that he'd change his identity and try to take a lighter approach, try to pull himself from bruce's influence, though with how it's all set it up, it seems fated that he'd end up there. there was red robin 2009, but then there was his sixteenth birthday incident (which sounds bad here and i'd read this before reading it myself but god when i read it it pissed me off so bad... really what turned me off bruce as a 'good' father figure, i can't lie). he ultimately ends up going back and becoming robin and this is the turning point for him where he agrees to enter this mindset that bruce wants him to be in. (this post talks mainly about timsteph but it is also a point to the end about the shift in his character and how that affected his relationships as well)
i mean i know red robin 2009 is marked by the grief of bruce's 'death' and a bunch of other Very Bad Shit but even when we got past that and he had his little 'Let me let in the people who love me because i am Not batman' he then proceeded to go a little surveillance crazy and make a hit list (something like that, it's been a while..) but. yeah.
ultimately, at the core of his character, i think he is good and compassionate and kind, so, even aside from all that (like the birthday incident), i think he would've made his way there eventually. it could maybe be why we see him returning to robin, if we wanted to try and pretend dc making him be robin is a completely normal and logical decision that they actually thought through. like a way to return to the bases and feel it out from there. though i still think they could've just. idk. given him a BREAK from vigilantism to figure it out. i'm a big proponent of civilians and their place amongst vigilantes and superheroes and i feel like tim's due a break, which is why i put that stuff in my fics. i do want to see him step back and try to figure out his life, because at one point, though robin 1993 was arguably defined by the balance between robin and tim drake and had plenty of civilian friends to keep things interesting, we don't see much as far as what he wants to do. which i suppose could be part of his relatability factor that tim drake, the character, was conceived with
but idk at this point they have to give us something 😭 anyway. this got VERY long i am very sorry.. i don't mind long asks either but i might've overshot my response... alas. i also hope i more or less answered your question??? if not feel free to slide back in here and talk to me! i rambled a bit here and it's like. 3am rn i'm scheduling this to post because i wanted to get it all written Now and. yeah.
thank you SO much very happy to hear you're enjoying everything <333 hope you continue to enjoy :**

Topic Essay:
Fandom: One Piece
Topic: The Marines and Their Comparisons to Pirates
Sub-Topic: Kaido vs Akainu & Zoro vs Kizaru
!Spoiler Warning!
The Marines have always fascinated me while watching One Piece because of how complicated and multidimensional their characters are when they could have just been another group of bad guys that they have to constantly worry about. From the very first interaction between pirates and marines, this care and depth was given to them that I hadn’t seen for who was supposedly the main enemy.
One of the big things that caught my eye was the paralleled actions, thoughts, and feelings drawn between the admirals and the pirates we know and love. Everyone knows about the comparisons between Luffy and Coby, so let's instead look at some characters you might not have thought about like Kaido vs Akainu and Zoro vs Kizaru. As a reminder, this isn’t me breaking down who I think would win in an actual fight, cause in One Piece…you never really know.
Kaido vs Akainu: As far as pirates go, Kaido’s personality is almost exactly what people imagine. While Luffy is by far the most selfish person in One Piece, Kaido takes second place in my book. He disregards the murder of his enemies, the innocent, or even his own men. He aids in the destruction of Wano, seemingly just because he can. When Law + Strawhats finally get to indirectly meet Kaido, he’s drunkenly destroying an entire town all because he heard that they might be in town. He also destroys the entire mountaintop that held Oden’s old fortress because someone mentioned that they might be hiding out there. He values strength and power above all else and leans so hard he falls into the fear people have of him. He’s a liar and a traitor who works with those who prove their might. He hates the Marines and the World Government as a whole above all else, and while he’ll occasionally acknowledge the strength of other pirates (mainly Big Mom and Luffy), he has never spoken a good word about the marines. Compared to Kaido, Akainu is a mirrored image. He values strength, and rarely if ever impores restraint or mercy. While Sengoku values the strength that Whitebeard and Shank have, even if they’re pirates, Akainu seems to have no such respect. This is shown both from how he was very chill with murdering Coby when he stood up to the continuation of the war, and how he disagreed with Sengoku’s decision to let Shanks respectfully bury Whitebeard and Ace. Akainu and Kaido have nothing without their strength.
Zoro vs Kizaru: Now these two are much more fun. They act as the true neutrals for their respective teams, they are accountable when it comes to winning fights, but other than that they are kinda loose cannons. The marines, when first discussing Kizaru, talk about whether or not he’s gonna actually do what he’s told by his superior because he kinda just chooses which orders to follow and which to not. This is not unlike Zoro, who will listen and follow the serious orders given by Luffy no matter the cost, most of the time he kinda just wanders around and fights who he wants. While the marine’s have Aokiji, who broke protocol to save Nico Robin after the buster call, and Fujitora, who more or less let Luffy & Co. escape Dressrosa before accepting full responsibility for the tragedy, and the Strawhats have Nami, who decided to save all the children from Punk Hazard, and Sanji, who’s obligated to feed the hungry no matter what, both Zoro and Kizaru never have such a push to save children in mass or rescue and entire island. Zoro’s objective on each island he ends up on is to find the second strongest person (Cause Luffy typically fights the first) and kick their ass. Kizaru seemed to enjoy fighting Rayleigh, but other than that kinda just does whatever he wants. Neither character really has any hard opinions, and does a fun mix of what they’re told and what they want.
Conclusion: Oda didn’t create an easy way to separate the good and the bad guys. Just because you’re rooting for Law, doesn’t mean Doflamingo is a good guy. Just because you like Coby, doesn’t mean Komei doesn’t suck (If his name doesn’t ring a bell, don’t worry he’s technically not canon cause he’s in a One Piece film, but I like it so it’s staying in). By creating these parallels, he’s reminding you that perspective is everything and if you like Zoro’s laziness, you can’t hate Kizaru’s. (My favorite parallel is between Blackbeard and Luffy as pirates, but that’s for later!)
Let me know if I missed anything or if you have any more interesting comparisons!
