re: BuckTommy 8x06 and the Interviews
First point: I hesitate to say Oliver's response was biphobic
We don't know the man??? He could literally be bisexual (and guess what, it would be none of our damn business!) But within the context of "he has said he wanted change for his character and what he says in this recent interview directly contradicts that" I do have my gripes.
Second point: To me, the execution of this sucked.
Normally (as a resident Messy Bitch who likes seeing shit in her Complicated Fucked Up Life reflected in media) I live for drama and I live for narratives taking me wherever the wind takes them! but there was something so BLUNT and RAW about this that i cannot feel settled or satisfied with it (esp taking into account that, as noted before, this is a direct contradiction of what people IN the show have said they wanted for Buck) because it was SUCH a tonal shift from where they left off the previous episode.
I try to be gracious and remind myself that network TV has to deal with sudden changes that affect the way they go forward with planned storylines, but this was kinda ass, right down to the wire.
Assuming that it WASN'T a sudden change and that this *was* how they wanted everything to wrap up, I feel like it really could have been written with more consideration. It's one thing to pick up from where s7 left off and have their relationship in s8 be something along the lines of “we keep trying but it isnt working out” and then culminate in a breakup, but it's another entirely to break them up and...
Have Tommy's character interactions *still* be intertwined with Eddie (when it would have been more of a soft exit thing to treat Eddie's friendship in the same "implied presence" way they do with Hen and Chim rather than giving them scenes where Tommy and Eddie interact directly) as recently as the previous episode. Like at that point you've established an additional relationship for the guest character to have with the main cast, and given that relationship more recent screentime than any of his previous friendships, which THEN makes his departure have multiple fallouts to address
Have Buck be on the verge of a momentous confession when said breakup happens, because GOD that just hurts
From a writing perspective, you're leaving loose ends that are (imo) not going to really lead viewers to sit well with the story going forward?
On a personal level, even if (by some miracle) we still end up with Buck in a queer relationship despite the looming storm for LGBT media in the US, I'm probably not gonna be able to look at whatever relationship happens after this without feeling some sort of sting. I'm all for writers planning out stuff to happen in advance, but they could have spelled out the end for Buck and Tommy in SO MANY ways that would have been less bitter.
Like, fuck. Even if it WAS a sudden change, there are ways that this COULD have worked decently even *with* a single episode to wrap up the BT relationship.
You could have Put Tommy On A Bus for [insert serious reason that Buck can't argue with] here and that (at the very least) would soften the blow bc at least the loose ends are explained by "oh, *no one* who's close with this character is able to interact with them" and that would have hurt slightly less?
You could have killed Tommy off and that would have been INFINITELY better than this IMO because at least sudden death seems more realistic an ending (as far as the weewooverse is concerned) compared to "these two characters break up but somehow we're supposed to forget that he's also friends w his ex's bff and there are Ramifications (tm)."
Hell, I'm not big on Buddie but it could have brought Eddie and Buck closer via grief bonding, if that's what the writers wanted? idefk.
Overall, this Sucks.
I'm gonna try to stop looking at my weewoo tags for the time being and focus on stuff that brings me joy (like content from old fandoms where I Haven't Been Hurt Yet lol) and spend some time away from the show for a bit.
Honestly, for me, s8's main sticking points were the BT relationship and whatever the fuck those two had going on with Eddie. My personal sticking points for the entire series (found family vs. blood family juxtaposition, breaking the cycle, and group hijinks) don't seem to be the focus in s8 thus far so I'm not too keen on watching the show as intensely as I have been, going forward. Hit me up if they bring Chris back or if the 8x06 interviews are smoke and mirrors (though I don't think they are) but otherwise I'm gonna go back to weewoo-ing through dashboard osmosis.
I still have BT and weewoo plotbunnies in my drafts, and I don't see myself abandoning those completely! I think, after some time, I see myself coming back to that creative space, even if I'm not following canon super closely. Of course, my ass never finishes anything, so whether I finish and post those WIPS is another thing entirely.
Peace out, friends?

Talking about Lunter
Someone has definitely talked about this before, but here’s my take on it.
I will say, that I’m a Lumity shipper. I see Luz and Hunter as siblings. But, I can definitely see why the ship exist, and why other people would ship it.
I’m not gonna lie, when Luz got up to Hunter’s face, I really did think they were gonna kiss, which kinda spooked me a little. 😂
But anyways, shipping is supposed to be fun. Threatening people for not shipping something that you ship is not fun.
Ship whatever you want! As long as you’re not shipping a minor with and adult, or a canon gay character with someone of the opposite gender. I guess it’d be okay if the creator was okay with it? I don’t believe Dana said it was okay to ship Amity with a guy, cause she’s a lesbian. So, don’t ship Amity with a boy, and don’t ship Edric with a girl.
There are creators that are okay with shipping characters even with canon sexualities, such as Vivziepop. She might be okay with whoever you ship with her characters, but, Dana isn’t Vivziepop, and she might not be cool with that.
Luz is a bisexual character, shipping her with Hunter doesn’t erase the bi representation like shipping Amity, a lesbian, with any male character would.
Of course, Hunter doesn’t have a canon sexuality, from what I know at least.
If he canonically isn’t attracted to girls, then there would be a big problem for this ship. But for now, there’s no real big problem.
I was also thinking about something. While I do love found family troupes, I feel like if Hunter was a girl, and supposed to be part of Luz’s found family, than most people wouldn’t be so rude about Luz being shipped with Hunter, but since Hunter’s a guy, almost everyone is being rude about this ship!
If you ship Lumity that’s fine! You just see Luz and Hunter as siblings, that’s okay!
If you ship Lunter, there’s nothing wrong with that! You just don’t see them as siblings, and that’s okay! Some people just don’t see other people’s visions and that’s fine!
If you’re a poly shipper and ship Lumiter that’s okay as well, as long as Amity and Hunter are just dating Luz, and Amity and Hunter aren’t dating.
If you’re a multishipper, that’s also awesome! If you like to ship Lunter separately from Lumity and/or Huntric, Whatever you might ship, that’s okay.
As long as you’re not being a jerk about what you ship, then it is okay.
Lumity shippers, don’t attack Lunter shippers. Lunter shippers, don’t attack Lumity shippers. Just shake hands and just agree that you both have opinions and you don’t have to agree with each other.
Everyone has opinions, and as much as it sucks sometimes, it’s the truth.
And people shouldn’t be being a huge asshole to people just because they like something that you don’t.
I think that’s all I have to say. Please, have a good day/night. These are all my opinions, I don’t care if you disagree with me or not, because you have opinions too, and I respect that.
EDIT: I forgot to say, also, not liking Lunter isn’t biphobic either.
EDIT 2: Also, if you’re homophobic and that’s why you ship Lunter and not Lumity. Why the hell? Are you even watching the show? And homophobia isn’t an opinion.
EDIT 3: Please unfollow me or just block me if you can’t respect people’s opinions on ships. Okay NOW I’m going to sleep.
EDIT 4: Sorry, another thing, Luz being 14 and Hunter being 16, it’s not really a big age difference. Steven and Connie from Steven Universe have those same ages and literally no one has a problem with that? 2 years isn’t that bad, that’s all I’m saying.
EDIT 5: And unless Hunter gets canonically adopted by Luz’s family, then just let the Lunter shippers have fun. If they do become canon adopted siblings, then there would be a problem with this ship.
EDIT 6: People don’t have to ship something just because it’s canon.
EDIT 7: I do realize now that all of this doesn’t really sound how I wanted it to, I was trying to sound as supportive as I could with these ships, but at the time that I was typing all of this down, I was really tired, once I got on Tumblr, I jut copy and pasted it all without really reading what I typed in. And then added a lot of unnecessary things (just like this). I will say, that I am not an adult. I’m 15, so….yeah, I understand that the things I say are really off and not exactly what you want to hear. (Or need to hear) It’s actually far from it. I’m not good at wording things or even talking about certain things sometimes, I actually suck at it a lot. I tried to sound respectful and chill, I guess? But yeah, I’m not so good at doing that. I apologize for how odd this all sounds. It is pretty late, so I’m just going to stop now. Please have a good day/night.
(Yes, I’m aware of how stupid I sound.)
EDIT 8: I Didn’t want to add more than there already was, but, no, you guys are right, Dana didn’t confirm Edric being gay, I thought I saw it, but I literally cannot find a tweet from Dana saying that.

Hiii, it's closeted bi anon again (if you remember me fndkjdkdk). I've been reading a few posts here and there that makes me think about the fandom and how we treat the actors especially during certain situations (re: misha coming out and then retracting). I remember when that happen like yeah there were a lot of posts that are supportive etc here (different case with Twitter) but sometimes the way we "joke" about stuff just makes this place not so much of a safe space that a lot of people preach here which is kinda upsetting. And especially for misha which has tried so hard to make a corner in the fandom for queer people to be comfortable and we can't return the same favour towards him when he decided to come out. Even though he retracted that coming out a few days after I just can't help but think a lot of posts I saw is more towards making fun of him and being straight up biphobic in general (especially the one on Twitter, it felt like hell for a few days). Like that isn't a "safe space" That people here like to think it is. Sorry this is such an incoherent rambling that probably doesn't make any sense
Hello darling, ofc I remember you! First of all Happy Pride Month!!! Secondly, I'm sorry for responding to you so late but I was sick with laryngitis for a whole week and had zero motivation towards anything and I didn't want to just respond with 'yeah same'.
I get what you mean, sometimes I feel like the fans take the whole 'they won't see it' types of jokes waaaay too far. Especially because chances of the person seeing whatever type of jokes are big. I mean we all know both Mish and Jensen are online and see what fans say, they just don't really respond (on twitter fans were beyond gross). So there's definitely a group of fans that take things too far almost every other day (it's also always the same people). Thankfully I have to say that either the jokes about Misha have finally stopped or I just managed to make my dash safe to scroll through because I haven't seen them in quite a while. Which I'm very happy with because some of them were just gross towards bi people, especially closeted bi people. Which sucks that a fandom that at times tries very hard to make a safe space for people, decided to poke fun of a big part of the fandom. But whatever, I've kind of decided to ignore it as if it didn't even happen because it was just too much. I'm glad to see that people have moved on and that Misha is slowly being more active online again and that while he's on stage he hasn't changed.

hi, (f18) I identify as bi but i feel like my attraction to women is creepy or predatory somewhere
and i was still coping fine with that feeling but recently i came out to all my friends and we were just discussing it and one of my friends(who is super supportive and shit) suddenly was like haha keep your gf safe from her to another friend, which is like fine whatever yall are just joking its fine
and recently i was just losing my shit over my crush(girl) and was discussing it with him and he was like your going to overboard with it and are behaving excessively(idk how to convert it in English sorry) and said that i shouldn't do that, again it's ok i wont talk to him about it now and maybe i am being excessive but he wouldn't have said it if it were a boy crush would he now?
since this im just so insecure about coming off as predatory to women and i don't want to do that obviously, maybe im overanalyzing this situation and he didnt really mean it this way as he has never behaved this way before i came out to him months ago and now I'm just like i shouldn't be gay and it ANNOYING coz it took me around like 2 whole years to be kind of comfortable with being gay and now it's like im close to being back at square one just because he made those comments or maybe im being too sensitive and i don't wanna go thru the same shit again idk what to do
What your friend said was biphobic. Plain and simple. You are probably very correct that he wouldn't have said those things if you had been crushing on a boy and talked about that. He literally went ~why do those queers always have to rub it in my face?~ when he told you you are "overboard/excessive" when you talk about a girl crush. That is NOT okay. It's queerphobic, it's biphobic. It sucks. Same with that comment about "keep your girlfriend safe from her". He might've meant that as a joke but that doesn't make it okay. That's a shitty and insensitive thing to say. And I am not surprised that you ended up internalising this and now feel like you're being predatory for being attracted to women. It probably isn't just from what he said but it's the most recent thing that happened and it may have pushed this to the surface.
So again: you are not being too sensitive here. What he said was bad. I sincerely hope that he will apologise if you tell him that those kinda comments are hurtful and not okay and that he'll work on being a better and truly supportive ally. Or else I'd recommend getting better friends. And also: get more queer and bi friends! Because someone who is only "supportive and shit" as long as you don't express certain parts of your sexuality isn't actually supprtive.
That fear of being predatory is a common internalised issue that queer woman have and it comes from the old ~predatory lesbian~ myth. Add to that the stereotype of bi people being "greedy and sex-crazed" and you can see how this is extra common amongst bi women. But that's an unfounded fear. Of course women can also be abusive or predatory but simply being attracted to someone isn't predatory behaviour. Having fantasies about someone you're attracted to isn't predatory. Talking about your crush isn't predatory. And even asking your crush out or trying to initiate flirting isn't predatory. It only becomes predatory when the other person has given you signals that they are not interested and you still don't leave them be. These rules aren't different for different genders. If you know that chatting up a guy or talking about a guy crush isn't predatory then that same behaviour is also not predatory when it's about a woman.
Maddie
P.S.: Maybe check out my post about internalised biphobia here.

What are your thoughts on Toni this season?
I have mixed feelings if I’m being entirely honest.
On one hand I am so so happy for Vanessa for having the screen time she deserved to have from the start.
On the other I’m not entirely satisfied with every choice being made?
I know timing is the real issue here but Toni being pregnant really doesn’t add anything to the plot presently. And I know it’ll be a bigger thing as early as next week, but if she wasn’t pregnant as the show presently stands it would not change anything narratively at all. Some scenes you legitimately cannot even tell she is pregnant.
When it was confirmed Toni would be pregnant in the show I guess I expected it to be more of a thing? I know she’s been preoccupied with other things and that I don’t mind. I really was afraid the baby thing would be her only storyline and I am glad it’s not. I truly am. I just wasn’t a fan of the pregnancy being written in in the first place.
I can’t really judge what will happen with the baby situation in the future but for now it’s just kind of underwhelming tbh. The only references to it have been Archie making a comment about it because he clearly noticed the bump, and then Toni mentioning it to Cheryl and in the same breath suggesting they could be girlfriends again.
Which is another part I’m not entirely fond of. I guess I thought the two would be more in the same camp as the other high school couples? I thought they’d have more independence from each other than they do.
And I know that sounds stupid because clearly they’re not heavily involved. I just mean that I thought Cheryl would have her own life and wouldn’t be someone Toni needed to “save” again.
It is entirely in character for Toni to see someone she cares about being in pain and not living a fulfilling and happy life. That makes sense.
It’s just not any different to who they were 3 episodes ago. Their entire dynamic has relied heavily on Toni needing to support Cheryl and make her life better.
Like it doesn’t feel good to me.
I know that dynamic is going to change now. But I hated that it even started that way.
They hadn’t seen each other in a while and Toni without hesitation was just like “oh we could be together now if you want”
Like ok. You have a whole baby in the oven and you live entirely separate lives but that makes total sense.
And speaking of the baby again. I think I’m in the minority here because I’m not a fan of the surrogacy theory? Idk I just don’t think a baby really even belongs in the show given the history of how they treat babies lol. And if Vanessa wasn’t pregnant this wouldn’t have been a storyline at all either way. So it’s still something that just feels like kinda lazy writing.
And I get that it’s easier to write in a pregnancy instead of hiding her behind desks and bags and camera angles.
I just don’t know how a baby will fit in in general?
If it is Kevin and Fangs’ baby. Then that means the show can have a pass to just be lazy and not give kangs anything outside of that. They’ll just be the background gays with a baby. No more effort needed to work toward their future or whatever else the other couples will get to do in the forefront of their storylines.
If it is Toni’s then that adds the whole complication of what happens when her and Cheryl eventually reconcile? Will they just be the same as they were in high school? Leaving the kid with a senile old lady and being inconvenienced by the child when they wanna have sex or have fun? Like. What does a baby add to their future relationship when it didn’t work out the first time story wise.
But also low key adds to the biphobic trope of sapphic couples needing the bisexual to have meaningless sex with a man so they can have a drama with their girlfriends via a baby
Babies just don’t fit in this show and I know I sound bitter or that I’m worrying about something that doesn’t really matter. But it bothers me for some reason sjsjs
But yeah if it’s Toni’s child then idk it could be so messy when adding a father to it. Especially if it’s someone we know. Idk at this point I don’t love any of the options when it comes to the baby situation. And that sucks because I am happy for Vanessa and happy she gets to do the pregnancy thing on screen while she was going through her own. That seems like something she enjoyed doing and I love that for her.
I just don’t understand what is going on and how it will work?
And as for Toni as a whole. I don’t mind the whole school storyline and her having something that showcases her big heart and her passion for her community. I love that. I do. That’s one positive.
But can we also have like her hobbies. Her photography. Let’s see that come back. Let’s see more of Toni outside of Cheryl and outside of her battle with Hiram. Give us more of her working with Alice! The relationship she has with her roommates! Gimme more of her in different dynamics and doing different things. I want everything I can get of Toni pls.

QUESTION OF THE DAY #6: Send me your most unpopular theatre opinion. Something that might make someone want to fight you. Please don’t be offensive (racist, misogynistic, etc.), but other than that…go as hard as you want. Spill all the tea.
MY ANSWERS: 1) The Pretty Woman score fucking slaps idek, 2) Come From Away (or even Bandstand...) should’ve won the 2017 Best Musical Tony, 3) I prefer the West End Heathers cast album to Off Broadway, 4) Shows shouldn’t sweep the Tonys just because they’re Best Musical worthy...shows that aren’t too critically acclaimed but have really impressive elements should get recognition too.
SUMMARY: Out of 37 responses: 5 were about Dear Evan Hansen, 3 were about Hamilton specifically, 2 were about: Rent, ALW, Wicked, In The Heights, Be More Chill, etc. etc....if your favorite musical is one of these and you get easily offended i wouldn’t read these.
NOTE: I agree with some of these, I highly disagree with others. I do not endorse any of the things that were said, I am simply sharing them with you all. These were what was sent to me. I’m going to number them so if you want to complain about or agree with one you can send me an ask with the number you’re referring to.
1. howmuchchildrens said: unpopular opinion: i really liked the 2012 version of les mis. i liked russel crowe as javert.
2. Anonymous said: Unpopular opinion: Bootlegs harm to local theatre communities, though I do not believe anyone intends for that to be the case. While it's possible to bootleg responsibly (and I might even say it's beneficial to do so), those who may not know the intricacies of theatrical copyright law or who haven't heard the horror stories from a theatre that's been hit with legal action DUE to a bootleg may record or watch a show irresponsibly, which can greatly harm other routes of theatre accessibility.
3. Anonymous said: Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals are mostly terrible. He only got and stayed popular because a lot of other musical creators and taste makers died in the AIDS epidemic
4. Anonymous said: Almost all musicals using the songs of one artist are cash grabs with no plot or point.
5. Anonymous said: If your musical only has 1 woman OR the women only get sad/romantic songs you need to do something else with your life.
6. nerdshrimp said: Unpopular opinion: Next To Normal does a better job of portraying the effects of mental illness than Dear Evan Hansen does. N2N also doesn't romanticise mental illness & excuse shitty behavior like DEH tries to
7. Anonymous said: Hadestown is a lesser show on Broadway. I fell in love with the live album, and I was so excited for it to come to Broadway. I was so disappointed to see the changes they made. Orpheus and Eurydice's relationship is less interesting and more generic. The changed lyrics are often sloppy and not as good as the original. They fucking wrecked Epic III. Also, no hate to R/ee/ve, but he's just not a good enough singer to convince me that he could soften the heart of Hades. His high notes are awful.
8. Anonymous said: opinion: we are the tigers deserves a broadway run or at least a proshot
9. bimystique said: e/c is NOT A GOOD FUCKING SHIP. the ENTIRE PLOT OF PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is christine trying to escape erik's abuse. WHAT FUCKING PART OF THAT IS ROMANTIC TO YOU PEOPLE.
10. Anonymous said: unpopular theatre opinion(s): Dear Evan Hansen is Very Bad for its handling of mental illness, Hamilton is overrated and praised too much, and high school/college musical theatre programs can be just as good as Broadway. (also, musical movies would be better if they hired broadway actors, but that's not an unpopular opinion)
11. Anonymous said: I don’t like Lin Manuel Miranda and Hamilton is overrated
12. Anonymous said: I don’t like dear Evan Hansen..... at all. I think it’s kind of boring and really overhyped.
13. Anonymous said: unpopular opinion: in the heights is far better than Hamilton. both are good but ith hits different yknow
14. Anonymous said: The bring it on and legally blonde musicals are BAD! The movies are 100 times better
15. Anonymous said: unpopular opinion? wicked is the epitome of white feminism. it's preached as super great for representation but we literally got the first black glinda in 2019?!?!?!? and before that woc could only play elphaba who's villainized and deemed evil by the whole city
16. Anonymous said: Not so much an opinion as a reaction, but of all Lin's works (ITH, Bring it On, 21 Chump Street, Hamilton), 21 Chump Street gets the biggest emotional reaction of all the cast recordings. The second Justin is like "I don't want your money" (And then later on with the "...what the heck did you.... dooooo", I am a complete goner. Worse than Abuela Claudia and Philip Hamilton's deaths combined
17. Anonymous said: Whenever Je.ssie Mu.eller hits certain notes, she sounds like Tommy Pickles from Rugrats.
18. Anonymous said: aotd6: not everyone knows what im talking about, but the cats 2016 broadway revival choreography was WAYYYY better than the original. the original had a lot of creepy uncomfortable moments and the new one looks way cleaner and up to date
19. Anonymous said: raoul is better than the phantom in every conceivable way
20. Anonymous said: I hate Anastasia so much. it's such a boring show and the music is uninteresting. I wanted to like it so bad but GOD is it boring.
21. Anonymous said: In the Heights.... Overrated.
22. Anonymous said: I do not know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but here is my opinion: Musicals that are entirely or nearly entirely songs (Hamilton, Hadestown, In The Heights, etc) are the most valid bc I can understand the plot without using wikipedia (I'm looking at you, Jagged Little Pill, I love you but what is your plot????)
23. Anonymous said: I'd rather have a bad film adaptation than no film adaptation
24. Anonymous said: Rent sucks and while it was a stepping stone for more ""controversial"" topics to appear on Broadway it's actually biphobic and features several generally terrible people doing generally terrible things and doesn't actually address the real crisis at all; it's all performative wokeness. The only real good it did was cast a bunch of "nobodies" for the time and make theater somewhat more accessible.
25. stardust-and-seas said: Dear Evan Hansen doesn't properly address mental health despite being about mental health and resolves nobodies character arcs satisfactorily. It's another show that reaches its hands around the throats of marginalized teenagers saying "look I'm relatable!!" The songs taken out of context are significantly more powerful than when placed in the context of the show, which gives us exactly zero evidence of Evan's work to improve and also never resolves Evan's u healthy goals in the first place.
26. stardust-and-seas said: Be More Chill is a raging dumpster fire and the only decent song from it, Michael in the Bathroom, reads as a whiny rich white boy whose potential social anxiety and depression is left ambiguous, which is exactly what it is. When taken out of context it better exemplifies the othering that happens to marginalized groups but lets be real here: bullying/cliques don't happen to "just anyone"; it's the marginalized groups that are othered and abandoned for not being "normal"
27. stardust-and-seas said: There's a difference between shows that don't take themselves seriously because they're meant to be fun and light and shows that pretend not to take themselves too seriously but want to be taken seriously by the audience and the latter always ends up mediocre at best
28. redueka said: i think that dear evan hansen handles every issue it presents badly. i also think that beetlejuice was badly directed
29. Anonymous said: Well I don’t EVER condone cheating, I’m team Jamie in the last five years. He tried so hard to make their relationship and life good, and Cathy gave him nothing in return
30. youcanlolyoucansayohwell said: The answer of the day- I don't get the BMC hype. I'm out of the age bracket it's meant for that might it be. I enjoy it but I don't think it's the greatest thing in the world like some theatre fans do.
31. Anonymous said: i like the rent 2005 recording better than the obcr
32. Anonymous said: unpopular opinion ? : the music of wicked just like isn’t that good. like it’s good but it’s not like, Good, yknow. it’s pretty standard it doesn’t stand out to me. kinda boring
33. Anonymous said: mari.ah r.ose fa.ith is not a good regina george. everything she says sounds monotonous and while i understand she's trying to play off the ""whatever"" teenager (she does this a lot with her teenage characters), 90% of the time she sounds and looks like she doesn't want to be there; her voice is great but most songs feel unnatural and forced and she changes them too much. she's just not selling regina to me as a believable character (this is all from a technical point of view)
34. Anonymous said: Unpopular Opinion: as much as i like musicals based on movies (like waitress), i think not every movie needs to be a musical.
35. Anonymous said: Unpopular opinion (?) the emojiland musical Kinda Slaps
36. Anonymous said: as one of my high school tech theatre teachers once said: "Andrew Lloyd Webber is overrated"
37. Anonymous said: sorry to whoever likes it but Seussical is an absolutely nonsense crackpot plot disguised with okay-to-good music, like I don't even know where to start. I was in the show and didn't even know there was an entire secondary plot line featuring sending children to war until we were halfway through rehearsals

Any hcs about Raphael and Magnus and Meliorn fucking with Alec and the rest of the Polycule about things that happened in the past? Like Mel can’t lie but they can def be obscure/misleading and Raphael is so deadpan and Magnus would absolutely make up shit that sounds almost real. If we wanna get angsty about it it’s also a way for all of them to cope with losing so many ppl (more Magnus and Raphael since Mel is less involved with mundanes, but I digress).
god YES. tbh i love to think of raphaeliorn as the prank power couple (not in a mean way, just. like you said raphael is pretty deadpan and meliorn knows how to be misleading and they both greatly enjoy being little shits, and they blindside everyone because no one EXPECTS a couple that radiates such serious and respectable vibes to be just a couple of ABSOLUTE PRANKSTERS. i feel like simon and maia also like to be little shits but like, the best duo is def raphael and meliorn)
magnus doesn’t outright lie to people he trusts, i don’t think, even if he does enjoy confusing shadowhunters with his shit from time to time (i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again the whole freud thing was bullshit there’s no way magnus was friends with that racist biphobic ass) but he does love playing two truths and a lie, especially with alec and/or simon (raphael knows him too well and can tell exactly when he’s lying pretty easily) because their reactions are the best. alec gets it right a reasonable amount of times, but it’s still enjoyable because he always laughs at his lies, and his truths, and always looks at him with these wide eyed wonder at all of magnus’ ridiculous stories like he’s the most precious thing when really he’s just feeding alec some inside jokes and stories, and he’s a simple man. whereas simon SUCKS and gets it wrong every single time
raphael in particular loves watching simon and magnus play two truths and a lie. especially because simon is always like “i think third one is a lie. is it the third one? raphael, is it the third one? come on, help me out here. you did a little eyebrow raise, i think. he did, didn’t he? what does it mean. i’m probably wrong. it’s the second one” “it’s the first one” “NO” “and i didn’t raise my eyebrow, by the way”
(simon is super frustrated, but then raphael kisses his hand and smiles at him and meliorn says that at least his logic was good, and simon feels a little happier. he’s gonna get it right one of these days. he’s not, because magnus can tell what his thought process will be and designs his games accordingly)
also two truths and a lie is the one game alec miraculously doesn’t get competitive over (even if magnus does because he loves designing those little games) because he just loves hearing magnus share stories about his past and the absolutely crazy shit he makes up and aaaaaaaa
and raphaeliorn just love dropping random shit that they made up on the both of them + any shadowhunter really + probably some of the other clan members just because they can. they steer clear of seelies because seelies get very distressed when they’re outright lied to, since it’s literally impossible in their culture. and while they enjoy being little shits, they don’t want to cause actual distress
but they’ll be casually talking and raphael will drop an “ah, i remember the 1929 crisis” and simon’s like “i thought you were born in the 30s??” and meliorn is like “why did you think so?” and simon is like “wasn’t he? i was so sure. wasn’t he?” and maia laughs into her sleeve
(they quickly relent and raphael tells him that yes, he was born in the 30s, and simon really should be more confident in what he knows because simon isn’t one to forget this kind of thing. simon is just like “i don’t want to get it wrong”, raphael just tells him it doesn’t matter and plays with his hand. can you tell that im a soft fucker)
they particularly love doing that in front of maia because she always has the best time. she might not be very into setting up these pranks or whatever herself (not like she can anyway since she’s not immortal yet) but boy she does love watching them confuse the shit out of everyone. especially because raphael always looks at her with that straight face, but she can see the way his eyes kinda twinkle with mischief and it’s adorable. she kisses his cheek for his efforts later
basically let them be silly and little shits okay i love them the end

This post kinda disgusting ngl
1st of all, lets assume OP is genuine about her sexuality - who gives a fuck? Why y'all so mad? You think she's gonna steal some fucking pan resources at the pansexual mutual aid meeting? Oh no, so fucking awful that someone took your label and misused it, sucks for you.
2nd, this is *very obviously* a troll. So while you get off on "hahahaha look at this idiot" you're just empowering exclusionaries of all levels, not just the ones you agree with. That's those who sure, disagree with Bi lesbians or he/him lesbians and maybe you're okay with that (I'm personally not), but also empowers aphobic people, biphobic and panphobic people, people who are truscum or even transphobic like TERFS. so what the fuck is everybody getting off on laughing at this troll when it's the "slippery slope" argument of all exclusion.
3rd. The post specifically pointing out Black Christian Jew; that's an actual fucking possibility.
Sure, there aren't many Jews by birth who are also Black, and not many of them convert to Christianity, but it's not a contradiction like you think it is. So maybe learn about what it means to be Jewish before you "lose it".
Whatever. I'm radically inclusive, and this shit disgusts me.

Edgie Comics: on TV
Content Warning: Statutory Rape, Homophobia, Biphobia, Eating Disorders, Fatphobia, let me know if u think I should mention anything else…
Social justice score: 1 out of 5
So Archie Comics got hella weird in the Nü Millennium, with attempts at maintaining relevance by reaching different audiences. One of those tacks was to make a series of serious adult-ish comics with edgy elements written by Mark Waid. Now adult-ish edgy Archie is on The CW and to kill a minute I’m watching the first episode. Thoughts as they come… 1) They open with a mystery about a wet dead teen in a forested town with secrets, so Twin Peaks is being explicitly homaged. We’ll see how that goes. The editing, pace, and pretty much everything is too modern TV to evoke David Lynch, but whatever. Total ripoffs are embarrassing.
2) They say Cole Sprouse – who is I guess a disney expat / internet celeb – is pushing to have his character be asexual, as he is in current comic canon (which itself is very consistent with the character over the years spurning love for cheeseburgers). So coo, but then, I’ve heard rumor Sprouse is a crappy dude, so ehhhhh. As I mentioned he’s playing Jughead here, and in a move that surprised me, he’s acting as the Doogie Howseresque laptop-typing narrator of the show.
3) Betty’s gay best friend type espied Archie’s new hot bod from the house across the way and was like, hubba hubba. Gay lust is edgy. But at the same time, he described Arch as “swell,” not “swole.” So they’re mixing the edge with the faux-retro cheese. Another Twin Peaks point.
Tumblr media
                                                   heyoooooo!
4) LUKE PERRY AS ARCHIE’S DAD!?! I love it. He has aged into Bryan Cranston, but without current success adding “importance” to the performance.
5) Hey Reggie is Asian. And a beefy all-American jock jerkbro, so getting away from the usual stereotypes in at least one department. Cool.
6) Oh so gay best friend is the gay character from Archie Comics circa now, named Kevin Keller. And they hung a lampshade on the trope. No escaping stereotypes for this lone homosexual.
7) The Pussycats are all black girls. Hello there. Kinda sassy, not sure if that’s canon or stereotypes. Either way, shutting down the intruding white boy, so good job. Sugar Sugar sucks anyhow. (I think the actor playing Arch is a wee bit Maori but not sure, nonetheless he’s white in this story.)
8) Holy shit. Sexy Miss Grundy?!?!? This might be the case in the comics too, I never read them. Only caught a bit of press. Well, it’s statutory rape time, whatever the case. Hooray?
9) Mädchen Amick’s name in credits? Also we’re just now seeing credits? Ah, she was Betty’s mom, didn’t recognize. Well, Twin Peaks point three.
10) Luke Perry again, boy, he seems as smoked out as he did in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So chill. And yet, we’re probably supposed to buy him pooping on Archie’s dream of playing shitty pop songs, instead of being more like Tommy Chong letting Rae Dawn be in all the movies.
Tumblr media
                                                  just add weed
11) Oh god no, it’s the actual songs they’re doing for Archie. Coming soon to a Starbucks near you. x_X bleeeeah
12) GBF: “Is cheerleading still a thing?” Cheerleader: “Is being the gay best friend still a thing?” Oh, sick burn. Homophobia is totally equivalent to mocking school clubs. Plus the lampshading wasn’t even working the moment the character appeared, now it’s totally shot to hell. You don’t get to call your own writing sucky preemptively to hope the audience won’t criticize it.
13) Was the cheerleader implying Betty’s meal of a muffin, an apple, some vague leaf, and water might make her too fat to cheerlead? Good times. Even from a character we’re clearly not supposed to like, I don’t accept this. For now tho, I feel like I can press on. For the sake of this review. I did, after all, finish the second season of The Strain.
Yes. She was saying she was too fat. And how to help her feel better? To say, oh no you aren’t fat. Because being fat is inherently bad, rather than something that only sucks because of diet industry moolah-fueled fatphobia saturating our culture. That’s what I want to think about during my entertainments.
14) Veronica calls Betty “queen bae of the strive hive.” I have to admit, I never watched the recent teen shows like Glee and what-have-you, but this seems a bit much. First hint of bisexualities on show tho?
15) Fuccck more Archie moaning musics with sexy Grundy listening in the sexfully dimmed music hall. But she seems reticent. No statutory rape for you today, Mr. Andrews. Oh, it’s time for murder mystery stuff. Didn’t see that coming.
16) Oh and now the edgy girl on girl kiss from the trailers for the show. And the context? This makes negative ten thousand sense. It’s offensive and foolish as hell. So Veronica’s bisexuality is just for show, great, that isn’t a biphobic trope against women or anything. My dude points out this writing would make sense in the context of a porno, if not anywhere else.
Tumblr media
                    something foolish and offensive happened
17) This Mean Girls stuff isn’t really for me, so I don’t feel qualified to comment. Though it seems like they’re kinda rushing the development here, and will pay for it with filler episodes later in the season.
18) This polyamory tease will not last.
19) After school specialing across the universe. The more u know, the more u grow.
20) In this scene with Arch & Dad, did Arch just imply losing his virginity to statutory rapist made him a manly musical brooder?
21) Luke Perry defied expectations to be the understanding dad what tells u to follow ur star but with the great power-great responsibility Uncle Ben undercurrent. He will be the show’s conscience, won’t he?
22) “This post-James Franco world”… Veronica is kinda fun. I dunno.
23) Salacious gay biz must be mentioned but not seen. It’s only 2017. We’re not ready yet. Maybe when the world is on fire and we get a Movida Madrileña as the Trump dynasty begins to decay.
24) Spin the bottle to “ride the ginger stallion.” Sounds legit. Carry on.
25) Arch & Veronica in the closet. As they stand so close, things heatin’ up, she ends up looking cross-eyed and I wonder, does that happen to everyone when they try to make eye contact at close range?
26) Oh god we looped back to Sprousehead at the all nite diner. Narration again. Lay it on me, guy… Nope. Nothing of interest happened.
27) This big Archie Betty sad scene is what it is. She’s doing a good enough job of acting, he’s losing points because he has to be too manly to express big feels. “Yr 2 good 4 me” that’s some tired biz. Don’t hate yourself because you’re a rape victim, Archie. That’s my generous interpretation of his act here. I find Betty has a kinda cute nerd voice, didn’t really notice it before. Maybe it gets more charming with snotty tear time.
29) Jug narration continues beyond his scene. We did get the excuse for it – he’s novelizing the town’s dramas. But how does he know everything? French fry-based divination? Potatomancy?
Tumblr media
                            jughead jones, potatomancer
30) A little hint of gay cocks that must forever be blocked, and a body is found to bring the show to a close. Mysteries! People standing around! Look at each other meaningfully. You know you wanna watch a season of this…
In the end, I only watched it because Archie Comics are a weird-ass American institution. Their mere continued existence at the supermarket checkout stand amuses me. As for the show? Arch looks too damn square-jawed and is too manly to show believable emotions. Stephen Amell on The Arrow is similarly the least expressive character on his show and still more believable than Arch.
The Archie/Veronica/Betty drama so far doesn’t seem too mean-spirited or egregiously sexist, might be the best thing on the show. They center the shared coming of age stories theme and it works fine, just not my thing. Anyone who saw the trailer and imagined you might see ladies lovin’ ladies should give it a hard pass. Even if they do tease with that later in the season, there’s no way they’ll stay with it, given the history of the characters.
As for the Twin Peaks homage, if you want the candy-coated parody of the visual style plus only the soap opera elements of the plot, you’re in luck. Otherwise, nuh. And for the show in its own right? I saw nothing to keep me around. The gay stuff is a side joke / tease job that will yield absolutely nothing of importance in the long run. I’m not that into soap operas with no fantasy, scifi, action, or horror element. I’ve never watched The OC, Party of Five, Beverly Hills 90210, etc. If any of you have more experience with that genre and saw this show, what did you think of it?

Note
Hi I'm a (kinda) new bi
But I haven't come out to my family (only my brother but he thought I was just joking)
My family is very religious
And I'm still doubting whether or not I'm actually bi or if it's just a phase..
Can you give me any advice ? (Like about coming out to a religious fam or about the phase thing)
Thank you <3
I’m sorry to your that your brother didn’t take you seriously. That can be really hurtful and I hope you’re okay.
Coming out can be stressfull as it is for most people, but especially when you have a very conservative and religious family. I’d hope that your family is willing to unlearn any prejudices they might have and will accept you as you are, even if it might take some time and not go without some emotional injuries (but hey, maybe they will surprise you with acceptance?!). Whatever your (family’s) religion is, you might be able to find other queer people from that same religion who can give you resources that could also help your family see your queerness as something that doesn’t contradict their faith.
But to be a bit more matter-of-fact here: your safety is the top priority. I don’t know your living situation or age but as long as you are living with your family and are depending on them (i.e. financially) I would advice to proceed with caution. Being in the closet sucks but if you expect a very extreme negative reaction from your family it might be the saver choice to stay closeted until you are more independent.
The whole “just a phase” situation is often a common fear that comes out of internalised biphobia. Many bi people are afraid fo “commit” to that label because we feel like we aren’t queer enough. The often very fluid nature of bisexuality can make it hard to “grasp” it as a sexual identity because the truth is: many bi people (though, not all) do go through phases where we have different preferences and might pay more attention to one gender than to others. And that can sometimes lead to self-doubts because of that big biphobic misconception that ~bisexuals have to be equally attracted to all genders or else they are not Real Bisexuals™~.
And there’s another reason why the “just a phase” narrative sucks: even if something is just a phase that doesn’t mean it wasn’t real or meaningful while it lasted. I used to listen to nothing but Swing and Jazz for two years when I was a teenager - now I don’t listen to it much anymore but that doesn’t mean I didn’t actually like Jazz for real when I was 14. My musical preferences have just changed (or rather: gotten more diverse). So what if you being bi is “just a phase”? That doesn’t mean you aren’t bi now. If that label feels like the right one at this point in your life then that’s what you are because it’s your choice to pick a word that suits you. And if your sexuality changes or you get to know more aspects about it that make you realise another word fits you better - then change your label. Even if it means going back to identifying as straight that doesn’t mean your “bisexual phase” wasn’t worth exploring. Even if could look into the future and knew for certain that in two years time you would not be bisexual anymore - that doesn’t mean it’s not worth using the word in the meantime.
Sometimes you can only get to know yourself better through trial and error so go and identify as bisexual if you want and see how long that “phase” lasts. Maybe it’s a couple weeks or months, maybe it’s a lifetime.
