Lucy: Question. Is it socially acceptable to commit murder to get your favourite Animal Crossing character back, after they leave your town, because you fucked up and didn't play for a month?
Lucy: Asking for a friend.

THE ACNH TAG
ty @morgrenth for the ding <3
— Personal
Is it your first Animal Crossing game? Nope. I played the one on the Gamecube, New Leaf, Pocket Camp, and now New Horizons!
Do you listen to the game music or put some of your own? Usually have the game music on! Not often very loud, just enough for some ambient background noise.
   What are your 8 reactions?
The ?, the !, clappy hands, glee, doze, and the other 3 i change around a lot. I’m missing so many. Want more!
Do you use them a lot? For photo ops with villagers and around friends, sure!
How many rooms do you have in your house? All 6 of them!
What are they? (Kitchen, bedroom, etc) Main room is just a collection of stuff that I like, some tables and chairs, and then some useful things like mirror, crafting bench, switch, and some trinkets from in-game mom. My top room and right-side room are currently just holding items for a friend. She's planning on restarting her game, but some items she didn't want to lose. So it's just a junk graveyard right now. The right side room was initially a craft room with sewing machines and stuff, and then the bottom bit was the fathers day mug, some tea, and a set of golf clubs. It was going to be a little room dedicated to my irl mum and dad. But yeah. It's holding junk right now. Left side room is a sort of bathroom. Upstairs is a bedroom/study. Also pet cat room. Has cat food, cat tower, cat nip, kitty litter, etc. And a paper tiger acting as the cat.
What’s the main purpose of your storage? To hold all the crap I might need one day.
Do you time travel? Why?Nah. I have plenty to do in game each day, I don't need to leap ahead. Even now when I'm making cat-town, it sure would be quicker to skip ahead, but the 3 days gives me time to do other things. I'll get there in the end.
Do you have a list of dreamies? I hate this phrase. :D
I am currently working on my all cat village (plus the wolf, Skye, cos she's a sweetie and I can't get rid of her), and I'm moving in a lot of my favourite cats / villagers in general. But there are definitely villagers I like more from other species. I've never really sat down and looked at all billion villagers to decide my ultimate favourites. There are lots of cute bunnies out there. Who knows, maybe 3 months down the line I'll make a bunny village. Since it's taking me like 3 weeks to move in all the cats, I want them stuck around for a while.
— Island    What’s the meaning of your island name? Haven! Haven is one of the key locations in a story I've been "writing" for the past 20 years. It tends to be my go-to place of things to name in games where I build a settlement.
A picture of your island before vs now?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you have all the fruits? I do! Nom nom.
Do you have all kind of trees? It's mostly fruit trees, and I have about 6 normal trees, and about 3 or 4 cedars. Although I've not had to shake my fruit trees for money for a while now, I like that the option's there. I have just enough non-fruit trees for furniture and wasp needs.
Do you have bushes? Which is your favorite? A few, but I don't think I have them all. A few of the currently flowering ones, but mostly out of season ones. They make cute borders.
What flower is the most prominent? Tulips are probably the most prominent in my village.
Which flower is your favorite? And what color? I love the hyacinths. The orangey ones are my favourite, but I like blue too. I think I only have like 2 blues though.
— NPCs
Do you commission Flick? Have had one thing made by him in the past. I should do more now that I don't really need the money. But honestly I haven't seen Flick in forever, and the days I do see him, I'm busy doing something else.
Do you interact a lot with your villagers? Yep! I try to talk to all of them each day, but I'm sure I miss a couple, especially if they're hiding in bum-fuck egypt. I miss the Megaphone from ACNL :(
What kind of gifts do you give them? If I've got some junk lying around, they'll get that. I totally gift back ugly clothes. Every few days I'll gift some of them a wrapped ironwood clock. They seem to like that.
Favorite & least favorite personality? Normal and Peppy are my faves. Jock probably my least fave.
Which visiting NPC is your favorite? Probably Flick. I like catching bugs, it's pretty chill.
Which is your least favorite? Redd. BECAUSE HE NEVER COMES HERE. I WANT MY ART YOU SHIT.
Do you always help Wisp? Yes <3 Love that little goober.
— Random
Do you buy or craft tools? Bit of both? If I'm lazy, I'll just go to the shops. If I'm stocking up on something then I'll craft. I need to make a bunch of nets for the bug-off in a few days! :D
Do you have any gold tools? Recently got the recipe for the gold watering can. But since it still breaks, eh, I'll just stick to my tier 2 can.
Do you recover a hole with your feet or the shovel? I try to just use my feet, but if it's in the middle of other flowers I'll use the shovel for precision, so I don't accidentally pluck a flower.
Do you buy fake paintings/statues? I WOULD IF REDD CAME TO MY ISLAND. I'll generally buy the real ones, but if there's a fake I really like I'll nab it for myself.
Do you buy a lot of clothes? Yas!
Do you buy a lot of wallpapers/floors/carpets? I do, but there's so few I end up liking :( I'll buy the fancy stuff from Saharah when I see them, but all I've been getting recently is gross floors and the goddamn lava/volcano wall.

Note
for animal crossing ask, 1-5 and 25-30!
this feels like christmas lol
UNDER THE CUT THIS IS LONG
Are you of the “Tom Nook is a crook” or “Tom Nook is an honest businessman” opinion?
NOOK IS AN HONEST MAN AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN. rent-free loans with flexible payments, in acgc all the art he sold was ALWAYS genuine, he took in two orphans and adopted them as his nephews.
man started with a fucking shack as a shop after being scammed to hell and back from redd, and throughout the games hes slowly been able to afford to build up his shop and later achieve his dreams of working in real-estate. you literally support each other by giving him the money to upgrade the shop, and him giving you the money to upgrade your home and furnish it! not to mention most of what he and the nooklings buy is like, literally a tanuki’s diet - fish, bugs, insects, he basically pays you for meals every day...
SORRY I THINK I JUST GOT POSSESSED BY TOM NOOK I DIDNT EVEN GET INTO THE ABLE SISTERS STUFF. i just love how subtle the character building is in these games and how you really do watch them slowly evolve as characters, like nook starts out kinda crass in the first game, but even in THAT one he starts adapting to being more polite, and now hes like the nicest fucking man ever
Do you play as yourself or a made up character?
myself with less messy hair and clothing styles i want irl
Where is your house located?
i made this little lake like the ones in acgc and i put my house next to that!
Who were your first villagers?
renee (rhino), that red hippo, wendy, molly (fucking starter house!), uuuuuhhh, lucky was my first islander, idk who else cuz theyre all moved out now (except lucky)
Preferable method of earning bells?
uhhh when my friends get high turnip spikes they let me sell and ill have a million or so last me for a while. ive also sold NMT before when i had a 3mil bell terraforming project cuz uhhh desperate times call for desperate measures lol
Favorite time of day to play?
i find myself gravitating towards 9AM-12PM a lot, and 4PM. dunno why
Favorite special visitor event or reward? (Ex: Selecting an art piece from Redd, aiding Guliver and getting a special item, etc)
i love redd just because hes funny lol
Favorite KK song?
two days ago, KK cruisin’, drivin’, KK sonata, cafe KK, KK synth, KK metal (goes on for an hour)
Favorite animal crossing game?
wild world!! something about that one just stands out as so unique from the other entries, like just the overall tone shift from ACGC to WW was massive and the amount of stuff that was added, it was like seriously such a driving force on making the series what it is today i love it
If you’ve played Animal Crossing before, are there any animals you’re nostalgic for? If this is your first game, has any animal in particular left some effect on you?
TABBY TABBY TABBY TABBY TABBY. i finally have her again for the first time since acgc, she has such a unique design and always left such a huge impact for me. i also recently got one of the villagers that admittedly i teared up when she left my acnl town - skye!! and as for like villagers in general that give me nostalgia, cally and candi - but holy shit did they fuck up translating their designs to HD, candi looks like she has two sets of eyes
Share a story from your gameplay
a few weeks ago i literally spent 5 hours purging my town of flowers, i think i got rid of like 980. now i think theyre all grown back .-.
a while back i traded to get julian for 100NMTs, and then a month later i was like “hm nah” and gave him for free to someone
ONCE I HAD A SCORPION SPAWN ON TOP OF A HOUSE and like, my storage was full so i couldnt just take a picture so i tried pulling my phone out. as soon as my camera app loaded it walked off.....

Animal Crossing Countdown
I didn’t find this post until today, so I have to do a LOT of questions in a very short span of time, namely for my own amusement and the two people who care. But I’m gonna put it under a read more because no one needs to see a post this long in the actual ACNH tag.
1: Do you prefer making up a new name for your villager, or using your own name?
I tend to use my nickname, because I share my name with one of my favourite villagers, so it gets confusing and annoying.
2: Do you use the first map you’re given, or do you reset for layouts?
I reset for layouts, but I’m not terribly picky. I reset more because of fruit than layout.
3: Do you use the face you’re given, or do you wait for guides and choose your favourite?
Guides. Me not knowing that your face is dependent on some arbitrary questions was the cause of me immediately restarting my first town.
4: Favourite town/island name?/Have you a name picked out for your town/island?
I’ve only ever played New Leaf, and my town’s name was Wishfall. I’m not sure what I’ll name the island yet, but Wishfall is definitely one of the options.
5: Will you be sharing with friends/family, or is your island going to be all your own?
No. Mine. Though I will be inviting people over, no one will have a house but me.
6: What’s a new feature you’re excited about?
Redirecting rivers. Terraforming. Placing villager houses. Anything that will help me maintain and mold the island into what I want it to be.
7: Favourite fruit?
Apples. Second favourite are cherries, but only for looks.
8: Least favourite fruit?
Probably pears, which is funny, since Wishfall’s town specialty were pears. I don’t like how they look, and I’m also allergic. Second least favourite would be oranges.
9: Favourite area? (Beach, campground, shopping district etc, from any entry in the series.)
The museum.
10: Where do you like to like to put your house? Do you like that level of customization, or do you prefer to have some things decided, like in older entries?
I don’t have experience with the older entries, but I know I’d prefer to make a choice on where my house goes. I like it to be a little away from other villagers, usually backed up against a cliff.
11: Favourite grass pattern?
Triangle.
12: Least favourite grass pattern?
Circle, but it’s not that I don’t like it. I just prefer it less.
13: Favourite villager/s?
Whitney. Julian. Pashmina. Drago. Merengue. Bam. Merry. Apollo.
14: Least favourite villager/s?
Jambette. Cobb. Chops. Frita.
15: Did you like doing Tom Nook’s chores, or did you find those to be a pain?
I mean. I like tasks. But having only played ACNL, I can’t say I HAD any chores besides “Pay your loan!”
16: Favourite NPC/s?
Kicks. Blathers. Crazy Redd. Katrina. Isabelle, obviously.
17: Least favourite NPC/s?
Zipper. Chip. Pave.
18: Do you use paths? Are you excited about the new path tool?
Yes, and fuck yes.
19: Favourite feature from an older entry?
I would have liked to see what the Celeste constellation thing was about. I’ve heard about it, but I don’t know any details. But I like the idea.
20: What was your first Animal Crossing game?
New Leaf was the first game I played in depth and actually owned, but I did play a little of a game on a DS when I was in high school. Probably Wild World. I really only remember shaking trees.
21: Favourite activity (fishing, bug catching, fossil hunting, other)?
Collecting museum donations.
22: Least favourite activity?
The arbitrary rules for the bug or fish tournaments, or the randomization of rewards given in any events at all. The events themselves would be fine, if they made any damn sense.
23: Favourite bug?
Emperor Butterfly. Birdwing Butterfly. Orchid Mantis. Oak Silk Moth. Walking Leaf.
24: Least favourite bug?
Fucking Mole Crickets. Not a fan of the House Centipede or Tarantula either.
25: A quarter of the way there! How’s the wait?
Impatience. So much impatience.
26: Favourite fish?
Goldfish. Sea Butterfly.
27: Least favourite fish?
Giant Trevally. That thing is fucking ugly. Napoleonfish, too.
28: Favourite fossil?
Fern Fossils or any skulls, but I actually don’t have any strong feelings one way or another.
29: Least favourite fossil?
Coprolite. ...Why.
30: Favourite furniture series?
Don’t really have one, though I’m partial to the Regal and Exotic series.
31: Least favourite furniture series?
Lovely. Don’t like it. Don’t like Kiddie much, either, though it’s cute for certain villagers like Kitt or Stitches.
32: Favourite soundtrack? (Gamecube, DS/Wii, etc)
New Leaf, since it’s my only experience.
33: Least favourite soundtrack?
None.
34: Favourite wallpaper?
Lunar Horizon. The Forest Wall, too.
35: Do you have a nice memory of the games/community etc you’d like to share?
When Pashmina moved in next to me, I was irritated. I’d specifically placed my house next to Re-Tail, but not too close, and she moved in between the two buildings. ...But now she’s my favourite goat, my favourite uchi villager, and honestly, I love her to bits. First impressions apparently don’t always matter too much.
36: Least favourite wallpaper?
Industrial, probably.
37: Favourite carpet?
Palace Tile, I suppose? Though it doesn’t go with everything.
38: Least favourite carpet?
Closed Road, probably.
39: Favourite furniture item?
Whichever grasshopper it is that goes in a cute little bamboo cage.
40: Will you be buying a Switch for Animal Crossing, or do you already have one?
I have one already, sadly. I’m sending it out for repairs, though.
41: Least favourite furniture item?
There are some uuuugly ass furniture items, but it’s impossible to remember them, so I don’t.
42: Favourite flower?
Black or pink lilies, blue and purple violets, and blue and purple roses.
43: Least favourite flower?
Meh. I like them all okay. If I had to choose, I’d say I’m not overly fond of the Cosmos.
44: Favourite hybrid?
See above.
45: Least favourite hybrid?
I don’t care much for the orange pansies.
46: Favourite shirt?
Night-Sky Tee.
47: Favourite dress?
I don’t wear them.
48: Favourite accessory?
Feathers.
49: Favourite hat/helmet?
FEATHERS.
50: Halfway there! How’s the wait going?
IMPATIENCE.
51: Favourite shop?
Kicks, I guess. Even though I don’t go in there. I love him. And the sign squeaks.
52: Do you collect amiibo cards/figures? Would you like to see them used in the new game?
I have a good amount of cards, both real and fake. Some figures, too. I wouldn’t say I collect them, but I try to have them just in case. I’d like them in the new game.
53: Fishing Tourney or Bug-Off?
Fucking neither, but if I HAD to choose, Fishing Tourney. At least in New Leaf. I like catching bugs more, but it seems totally random if they’re lackluster or not. I don’t prefer fishing, but at least all you need is the damn size to tell you if it’s a good fish or not.
54: Do you like making your own clothing patterns?
Nope.
55: Did you streetpass with many other ACNL players, or is it a feature you didn’t get much use of?
I streetpassed a bit but eventually turned it off after getting too more undesirable villagers from other people. Frita and Chops will always be two of my most despised villagers for this reason.
56: Favourite villager species?
Wolves.
57: Least favourite villager species?
Gorillas.
58: Favourite nickname from a villager?
Darling, but I liked that Merry called me Pop Star. It was charming coming from her.
59: Least favourite nickname from a villager?
Big Y. Indeed. Big why.
60: Do you try to collect everything in the game, or just try to get your favourite bits and pieces?
I try to collect everything eventually but I’m not insane about it. I like to fill my catalog.
61: Favourite villager personality?
Smug. But it looks better on some villagers than others. Cute on Julian or Lopez, AWFUL on Chops.
62: Least favourite villager personality?
Jock, but again, while it’s cute on Bam, I loathe it on Cobb. It really depends on the villager, somehow.
63: Do you “plot reset” for villager house placement, or do you let them move in wherever they want?
I plot reset a bit, but only if they moved somewhere particularly undesirable.
64: Are you excited to wear any of the new accessories (like the bags etc shown in the E3 trailer)?
Of course I am!
65: What season are you most looking forward to seeing in New Horizons?
Fall. The mushrooooooms.
66: What’s your favourite season?
Fall, though I loved how the cherry blossoms were carried on the river in spring.
67: Least favourite season?
Probably winter, just because it starts to look uninteresting after awhile.
68: Which game’s events/holidays do you like the most?
I’m partial to Halloween. Also, I have to cheat during April Fool’s Day, but the villagers’ reactions to Blanca are cute. I also begrudgingly like Bunny Day, but I can’t say I love it because Zipper creeps me out. I love collecting the eggs from all over the place, but he gives you totally random items, so. Eh.
69: Which game’s events/holidays do you like least?
Love feathers. Hate Pave. Seriously. Can’t stand him. He’s super annoying to me. I like the feather-catching portion and that is IT. I also believe I’ve already expressed my dislike for tournaments.
70: Do you have another nice AC related memory you’d like to share (in-game, of the community, etc)?
Weirdly, this is related to Pashmina again, but once I visited her after I got my face destroyed by bees, and she gave me medicine. I know now that uchi villagers in particular are likely to do this, but I’d never seen it happen before, and I was touched.
71: Do you prefer the “live” versions of K.K. Slider’s Songs, or the airchecks?
Yes.
72: An NPC you’d like to see more of?
Kicks. Sable. Katrina.
73: An NPC you’d like to see less of?
Chip.
74: If you could have any piece of AC merchandise, which would it be?
I dunno. A big comfy hoodie, maybe? A mug? I’m not particularly materialistic. I like useful things.
75: Only 25 days left to go! How’s the wait?
You know, I’m really glad I spent the last few months hyped for games that came out over time. It’s been bite-size chunks of releases that were only a little ways away. Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Concrete Genie. Pokemon Sword. The Cindered Shadows DLC. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I can’t imagine this having been the only game I was looking forward to, or I would have died by now.
76: Will you be downloading the game, or getting a physical copy?
Physical copy. As much as I’d love to play it right at midnight, I like not having to wait for download time, or take up a lot of space in storage. I’m hoping my GameStop does a midnight release, but I’m not counting on it.

Blue Roses and Money Trees
Tumblr media
As husband Zach has succumbed to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on his Nintendo Switch, and sunk approximately 250 hours into the game, I’ve been playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf on his Nintendo 3DS. I spend an hour or two most days just dicking around in Animal Crossing. I haven’t been this fascinated by a damn video game since PacMan on my Atari 2600. And that game was utter shit. I still think it’s offensive, how slapdash and poorly thought out that game was.
Point is, I play Animal Crossing: New Leaf (ACNL) every damn day. And the game has long-term goals; that’s part of why it’s so engrossing on such a long time scale. I had five pieces of “Alpine” furniture. How long might it take to collect all 11 pieces? And the matching Alpine carpet, and the matching Alpine wallpaper? (Months.) The Happy Home Academy gives you 20,000 points for the room if you have all 11 pieces of matching furniture, 25,000 if you also have the matching rug or wallpaper, 30,000 if you have it all. (Currently my home score is about 93,000 with five rooms.)
Above all this, though, is the primary motivation: You owe Tom Nook, the adorable capitalist scumbag raccoon, lots and lots of money! Every time you expand or add a room to your house, it costs tons of money. I currently owe him $600,000 for the expansion of one of my rooms. And there aren’t many shortcuts to making this money. You can dedicate your life to fishing and catching sharks, which sell for lots of bells (up to 12,000 apiece), but it’s a game, and I don’t WANNA fucking spend my whole time trying to catch sharks.
Another shortcut to gathering lots of money to pay for your home expansions is: the money tree. In Zach’s game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s very easy to grow a money tree. Basically, you bury a money bag in a particular spot, and the tree that grows has three money bags of equal value growing from it, which you can collect. This works one time, and allows you to triple your money. If you bury 100,000, it becomes 300,000, and that helps pay down a home improvement loan pretty quickly. But!
With ACNL, the process for making a money tree is ridiculously, stupidly complicated. Here’s what I’ve had to do:
1. To make the money tree, you have to have a golden shovel, because of course you do.
2. To get the golden shovel, you have to have purchased 50 bags of fertilizer from Tom Nook, the guy to whom you sold your soul. (I don’t even want to know what the limit is when purchasing fertilizer. I hope it’s not one bag per day.)
3. Tom Nook doesn’t even sell fertilizer until his store has undergone its final expansion. The store closes for a day, then reopens as a larger store with more stuff to buy. This happens maybe four or five times before you get the final, biggest store.
4. Tom Nook’s store will not begin its expansion until you have spent 100,000 bells at his store, waited at least 30 days since the last expansion, and, because the final, biggest store has a fashion section, and here’s where it goes from stupid to full fucknuts idiotic, you have to pass Gracie’s Fasion Check FOUR TIMES.
5. Gracie is this patronizing bitch of a giraffe who shows up occasionally, no more than once every week or so, and sets the fashion theme. On that day, you try to wear as much shit that fits into that theme as you possibly can, then run back to Gracie for judgement. If you don’t have clothing that fits the theme, and none is for sale, you’re just fucked, and you have to hope you can save enough clothing to pass the next fashion check, the next time “that cunt giraffe” returns to your village.
6. Once you have passed four fashion checks, which can take a couple of months, real time, she agrees to set up shop. This is where I am now; I passed my final fashion check this morning.
7. I assume that, tomorrow, Tom Nook will tell me he’s closing up his store for the next day to expand it. This is assuming I’ve spent enough money there to meet the requirement, which I think I have, easily.
8. Monday, Nook’s store is closed. Tuesday, the final big store opens. In theory, I can then buy the first of my fertilizer bags. So I can buy 50 of them over time, and get a golden shovel, which I can use to make my money tree, to triple my money, pay off my expansion loan quicker, which will then...allow me to build a new room or expand an existing one again.
If you think that’s convoluted, I’m also trying to generate a blue rose. In Animal Crossing games, if you stick two of the same kind of flowers next to each other and water them, a lot of times, the next day, they’ll have spawned another flower. Put two roses together, water them, and tomorrow, there’s a decent chance you’ll have a third rose. It’s generally the same color as one or both of the two parents. Two red roses will generally produce a third red rose.
However! Two red roses don’t always produce another red rose. Every once in a while, they’ll produce a black rose. When that happens, especially if you’re the one making it happen, and you have to wait overnight to see if anything new sprouted, it’s a nice reward. It’s cool as fuck! Colors can combine, too. A white rose and a red rose frequently make a pink rose. Two white roses sometimes make a gorgeous purple rose.
Here’s what you need for a blue rose:
Breed some white roses to get a purple rose.
Breed a yellow rose and a red rose to get an orange rose.
Breed the purple and orange roses to get hybrid red roses. These look exactly like regular red roses, but are not, because they’re hybrids.
Breed two of the hybrid red roses together to make blue. This is a very low probability outcome, each time you do it, one shot each day. So if you wake up and the shit didn’t work, you get to wait 24 more hours to try again.
Once I have a blue rose, and once I have a money tree, I’ll surely post pics of them.
