Chapter 6 The Great Escape

Summary:

A little bit of substance, a little bit of nonsense.

Snippet:

For all he calls Chuuya a dog, Dazai is like a feral cat who was never socialized and scares everyone away when they try reaching out to him. He rolls around, showing his belly and looking cute, and then attacks as soon as anyone gets close.

A stray dog and a feral cat—what a pair they make.

Chuuya hesitantly puts his hand on Dazai’s head, burying his fingers in his hair. Dazai tenses for a moment, making Chuuya still, but then he relaxes into the touch. Chuuya pets him and scratches him, amusing himself by imagining that Dazai’s a cat curled up in his lap.

Reluctantly, Chuuya pushes the shopping cart, complete with a giddy Dazai, into the store. No one says anything as Chuuya hurriedly pushes the cart deeper into the aisles, concealing them between clothes racks and shelves full of bathroom supplies.

The thrill of getting away with it curls the corner of Chuuya’s mouth into a small, mischievous smile. He swings them around to find a long, mostly empty aisle, then gains momentum and hops on the back of the cart as they fly from one end of the store to another. They’re grinning all the way up until a security guard stops the cart in its tracks and practically hoists Dazai out by the back of his collar (just like a kitten, Chuuya thinks).

They wind up sitting on the curb of the parking lot, cackling before realizing they didn’t even look for school supplies.
