you hear the door slam open as you jolt your head up to see what it is. you see your boyfriend in the doorframe looking directly at you

"Y/N Y/N Y/N. GUESS WHAAAAAAAT!" he yells as he runs to your desk. you smush his cheeks with your hand. "reki baby, calm down. and what is it?" you ask. "sorry, but you gotta guess." he says in a more hushed manner.

"uhmmmm you got a beef?" you question. he nods his head. "and lemme guess, with shadow?" he nods more excited. "I've been studying his tricks and cheats so I'll definitely beat him now." he whispers so people wont hear him talk about S. y'all's teacher walks in and reki goes to sit down, bouncing his knee up and down, not being able to contain his excitement.

langa, reki, and you gather up at S and look for Joe and Cherry. you see Cherry's bright ass pink hair and lead the guys over to him.

"glad to see y'all can make it. reki I wish you luck." cherry says in a monotone voice. "thanks cherry! i really appreciate it" reki smiles.

"yo! you ready to get your ass kicked, you little punk!" shadow walks up behind reki. "hell yeah! I'm gonna beat you tonight, shadow. and if I win, you have to get a act like a baby for 10 minutes. wah wah!" reki mocks him like a baby.

"oh yeah?! and if I win, you have to do the same!" shadow yells. "really creative, huh?" he says.

they get into their starting positions and wait for the lights.

"reki wait!" you run up to him. "s/y/n? what are you-" he gets cut off by you kissing him. he kisses you back and wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you in. you pull back, "good luck!" you smile at him.

let's just say that a certain video of shadow got sent to your phone :)

he was so happy that you kissed him to the point where he ran to you at the finish line and tackled you in another kiss. he did not want to let you go

Langa Hasegawa

you were watching langa practice some new tricks that reki told him about. he had a beef with some random guy that challenged him, but langa had nothing to worry about. he's sure he can beat him.

of course langa fell a few times and he always came to you to bandage him up. he always has that sad walk everytime he came up to you with a scraped hand or knee. but nevertheless, he always got back up again.

"gasp, langa look!" you pointed at the sunset. one of two things. 1. you wanted to show him how pretty the sunset was. 2. it was about that time to start heading over to S. you packed your things up and starting heading there.

of course, reki was already at S and waiting for y'all. "langa! s/y/n! you're here!" reki ran up and tackled us in a hug. "omg reki, hi!" you laugh. he gets up and helps me and langa up. "dude are you ready?!" reki asks. "of course!" langa says with a smile. 'he looks so pretty when he's happy and smiling' you say to yourself.

langa was about to go to the starting line when you called for him. he walked up to you, "yes, honey?" he asks. "one thing." you grabbed his collar and kissed him. you let go of his shirt and wished him luck. she was absolutely red and stuttering, poor boy could barely walk back to the starting line.

he of course won. he was still so red when he came up to you at the finish line. he was a stuttering mess asking you if you can kiss him more often

Kaoru Sakurayashiki (Cherry Blossom)

you're at where kaoru works and you're just watching him do whatever the hell he does when he works. you're just staring at him, mindlessly, engaged in whatever he's doing. "i can feel your eyes burn into my head, darling. is there something you need?" he asks. "oh uhm no... i just like watching you work.." you admit embarrassed.

after he gets off work, you both head over to Joe's for some food. "well if it isn't my two favorite people. the usual seats and orders, I presume?" joe asks. "you know us so well" you respond.

you and kaoru sit at the bar so you can talk to Joe. he brings out both of your drinks and food and leans on the counter. "so che- I mean kaoru." Joe messes up. kaoru gives him a 'watch what you say' glare at Joe. "how about a beef tonight, kaoru? just like old times, huh?" joe asks. "fine, but only if it'll get you off my back, you dopey gorilla." he says.

time skip

cherry took almost an hour to get ready, mostly on his hair, and we go to find Joe. i see his deep, moss green hair (insultingly) and he sees me. he runs over and gives me a bone crunching hug. "s/y/n!! you made it." he says. he looks at cherry, "oh, and the princess has arrived as well. how long did it take you to do your hair this time?" joe asks. cherry just slapped his back and joe hissed at the pain.

"you ready, you walking shampoo ad?" joe looks over at him. "ready to wipe that smirk off your dumbass face." he fires back. "oooh so sassy today."

"wait, darling." you call to cherry. "yes, angel?" he sits back up. "good luck, mkay?" you pull down his mask before he protests and kiss him. his eyes widen in shock, he doesn't know what to feel or how to react. you pull up his mask before anyone else can see.

cherry absolutely won against Joe since he had your kiss to motivate him.

Kojiro Nanjo (Joe)

like cherry, you were admiring kojiro while he worked. just something about the unform he wears makes his muscles and everything look so good on him. you weren't gonna lie, you may or may not have been slowly undressing him in your mi-

"if you keep undressing me with your eyes, I'm gonna catch a cold." he says with his back turned to you as he washes dishes. he has his sleeves halfway rolled up, making him 10x hotter. "oh shut up you gorilla." you say as you look away, but then look at him in the corner of your eyes. "oooh ouch that one stung," he says sarcastically, "you've been hanging out with kaoru too much." he says, never turning around.

once he's done with the dishes and everyone's cleared out, he dries his hands and leans on the counter to look at you. "some little punk kid challenged me to a beef tonight. you're gonna be there right, darling?" he questions. "well of course, sweetheart. wouldn't want to miss seeing you shirtless." you shot back while looking at his hands. there's steam coming off of them from the hot ass water he was doing the dishes with. "my eyes are up here, darling. you can see me shirtless tonight, lovey." he raises your head with his finger. "oh don't worry, I plan on it. and if I hear one of your fangirls yelling about how they wanna quote 'marry your abs'," you finger quote, "I'll jump on their asses." you sickly smile. "damn, you're hot when your possessive."

time skip

you both ride to where either reki, langa, or cherry was, or whoever you find first. reki and langa run up to you and jumps you in a hug, making you fall off your board. "s/y/n!" they say while pilling on you. they always do this every time you come to S, but you don't mind, it's cute.

joe pulls them off of you and helps you up. the kid who challenged him starts egging him on about how Joe will lose and that he'll never beat him. this, of course, pissed you off. "joe!" you wiggled your finger to signal to come here. before he stops, you pulled his belt buckle, wrapped your arms around him, and kissed him. he doesn't hesitate to kiss you back immediately. you pull away, "kick his ass, darling" you tell him. "damn angel, do this all the time and I'll do whatever you say." he teases.

he, like cherry, had your kiss to motivate his win.

joe, and like reki, walked up to you after his win, and kissed you oh so passionately at his win

Hanakotoba and the Meanings of Flowers in SK8 the Infinity

Ranging from very overt allusions in the text to single pieces of official art, almost every main character in SK8 has been associated with a flower. Hanakotoba, the Japanese language of flowers, is something that the creators were attentive to, evidenced by its mention both in the show itself and by staff in discussion about the episodes, and considering how hanakotoba might have been taken into account in the other examples of flower imagery can add an interesting layer of symbolism to speculate on.

The hanakotoba columns on GreenSnap were my primary source for this post, but I've crosschecked the meanings on multiple websites as much as possible to ensure the factual information here is accurate to the best of my ability. This is quite a long post, so bear with me.

🌹 Roses 🌹

Naturally, the first flower to start with is the one that is directly mentioned in the show itself:

As Adam says, red roses do mean "passionate love", though his particular wording (jounetsu no ai) is slightly paraphrased from how that meaning is typically worded. (If you look up the meaning of roses in hanakotoba, you may see netsuretsu na koi (熱烈な恋) instead.) They can also simply mean "love" and "passion" (ai and jounetsu, as Adam uses in this line), as well as "beauty" and "I'm in love with you."

In Japanese as in English, red roses are a very classically romantic gift, so in the finale and the Blu-ray box art, it seems Adam's passionate love hasn't waned.

There are also specific meanings for certain numbers of flowers in a bouquet of roses, and while it's never stated how many roses are in the first bouquet Adam brings Langa, extrapolating from how many flowers are visible in the shots and how many are hidden, as well as the bouquet at Adam's birthday display at the 2022 NAMJATOWN collaboration containing 50 flowers (as I was able to confirm from some fans' photos from better angles, that I won't be reposting here as they were personal photos on Twitter) I believe that the bouquet in the show also contains 50, which means "eternity."

Adam's bouquets to Langa are also not the only times roses appear in relation to him, nor is red the only color they appear in. Several flashback shots of Ainosuke and Tadashi as children feature red roses, which has quite clear subtextual implications, especially alongside the comparison between Tadashi and Langa made in the show itself.

But one prominent flashback also includes pink roses, meaning "deep impression."

In Ainosuke and Tadashi's last scene together in the finale, there's a vase of purple roses behind them, meaning "pride" or "respect."

And his graffiti tag from the 2022 Infinity Week art features blue roses, which, along with being in Langa's image color, mean "dream come true", "impossible" or "miracle."

Roses also have a lengthy history of associations with gay men, both in real-life Japanese gay culture and in the boys' love genre, and how this relates to the use of rose imagery in SK8 could (and likely eventually will) be its own post, but it's an extra aspect to take into consideration with Adam especially.

As a bonus, the mangaka for the official manga adaptation also drew Langa and Reki with red and blue roses (respectively) to celebrate the season finale:

And while Reki is never associated with roses in any more official capacity, Langa does have red roses in his house that are visible in a few scenes:

🌷 Tulips 🌷

This is another one that's directly confirmed, this time regarding Shadow's bouquet in the ending montage.

For love bouquets, Adam uses roses, so Hiromi-chan's was tulips and white baby's breath. In hanakotoba, red tulips mean "confession of love." Pink means "sincere love." Orange means "shyness", so we went with these three. Plus, white tulips are "new love" or "unrequited love" so we stopped there… (lol) By the way, in hanakotoba, baby's breath means "innocent love" and "gratitude."

Tulips in general mean "charity" and "thoughtfulness", and Shadow is frequently associated with them outside of just this scene, whether on his clothes or in official merchandise. "Tulip" is also the name of the flower shop where he works!

He's holding another bouquet of tulips on the Blu-ray box art, as well, with the same colors as in the finale - but with the addition of the mentioned white tulips for "unrequited love", and yellow tulips, which can mean "honesty", but can mean "unrequited love" (or "hopeless love") too... Sorry, Shadow.

🌺 Hibiscus 🌺

Moving away from directly stated connections into slightly more obscure ones, Reki is nevertheless visually associated with hibiscus in several places, both in shots in the show and in his 2021 birthday art.

Hibiscus flowers generally can mean "new love", "trust" and "I believe in you" (a meaning thought to originate from Hinduism), while red hibiscus specifically (as Reki is depicted with) mean "bravery."

Hibiscus flowers are also considered as symbol of Okinawa as a whole, making them an especially fitting flower for Reki, who's implied to be of indigenous Ryukyuan descent and is the character who could be considered the most representative of Okinawa (and Langa's new life there) in the show,

🌸 Cherry Blossoms 🌸

This one is fairly self-explanatory; Kaoru's surname is Sakurayashiki (sakura being the Japanese word for cherry blossoms), his S name is Cherry Blossom, cherry blossoms feature on his costume and heavily in the decor in his calligraphy studio, et cetera. As one of the most well-known and famously Japanese flowers, they're well suited to Cherry's traditional Japanese image, and the whole aesthetic of his character is themed around them. Even his birthday is on March 27th, Sakura Day in Japan.

In hanakotoba, cherry blossoms' most well-known meaning is "moral beauty", a phrase referring to the beauty of someone's personality or character. They can also mean "graceful woman" or "pure-blooded", and the specific species of cherry blossom that the ones in Cherry's design resemble (somei-yoshino cherry blossoms) can additionally mean "noble" or "innocent." The fact that the same flower with such elegant meanings is related to both his public and S personas adds to the characteristic duality between his outward appearance and private personality.

While not specifically hanakotoba, the French meaning of cherry blossoms also appears to be well-known in Japan - "ne m'oubliez pas", or "don't forget me", associated with ending relationships.

💮 Chrysanthemums 💮

Another flower associated with a character through their surname, chrysanthemums are the "kiku" (菊) in Kikuchi. A chrysanthemum also features prominently in the design on Adam's skateboard.

Chrysanthemums also appear on both Adam and Tadashi's clothes in a few pieces of official art.

Chrysanthemums' meanings in hanakotoba are all variations of "nobility" and "purity." They're a flower with great cultural significance in Japan, being the crest of the Imperial family, and often appear as a symbol of Japanese society itself - including on the badges worn by both Diet members such as Ainosuke and even certain ones worn by their secretaries, making this flower one that's representative of a very important aspect of both their lives.

While there's no particular history to this meaning, due to the romantic color, red chrysanthemums such as the one on Adam's board can also mean "I love you."

According to director Utsumi in the 2022 Infinity Week livestream, the chrysanthemum on Adam's board was a happy accident, as Thomas Romain, the artist who designed the board, didn't know Tadashi's name or anything about his history with Adam when creating it. The double layer of symbolism is an incredible coincidence!

🌻 Sunflowers 🌻

Joe doesn't have any particular connection with flowers in the show himself, but there is one piece of official art featuring him with sunflowers, which complement the strong association he does have with the sun.

In hanakotoba, sunflowers mean "admiration", "longing" or "I'm only looking at you" - originating from the way sunflowers will always turn to face the sun. As this particular piece of official art was for a magazine feature for White Day (a Japanese holiday where men receive gifts from women they gave gifts to on Valentine's Day), perhaps they're meant to be a gift to him. As Joe's stronger association is with the sun itself (his tattoo is of the sun, his board has the word "sole" - sun in Italian - written on it and a sun incorporated into the design, his restaurant's name (Sia la Luce) translates to "let there be light") he could be seen as the sun that the sunflowers (his admirers) would look towards.

Along with the hibiscus in the image, Reki's birthday event in 2021 also featured sunflowers as part of the display, fitting his yellow image color.

❄️ Snowdrops ❄️

And finally, one more case with only a single piece of official art - but one with a very interesting history behind its meanings. In Langa's 2022 birthday art, he's shown holding snowdrops - a natural association with his S name and the fact that he's a former snowboarder.

In hanakotoba, snowdrops mean "hope" and "comfort." These meanings are said, as you will find on any Japanese hanakotoba site, to originate from a story about Adam and Eve dating back to at least 1925, if not earlier (with 1925 being the earliest version of the story the Japanese Wikipedia page on snowdrops is able to cite.) As the story goes, after Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, an angel took pity on them suffering in the winter cold and turned the falling snowflakes into snowdrops, to console them and give them courage. In that 1925 version of the story, the first snowdrop was specifically a gift to Eve:

The Snowdrop Legend When the first winter lay white upon the earth, Eve sorely missed the beautiful things of the field. An angel who pitied her seized a snowflake and, breathing upon it, bade it live, for her delight. It fell to the earth a flower, which Eve caught to her breast with gladness, for not only did it break the spell of winter, but it carried assurance of divine mercy. Hence the flower means consolation and promise.

With both the superficial connections of being winter flowers named after snow and their connection to SK8's intentional biblical themes (as producer Mari Suzuki described the show as a whole as "the story of Adam searching for Eve" in Animedia March 2021), these have some of the deepest meanings of any of the flowers depicted, despite only appearing in a single piece of art.

The flower imagery SK8 uses is fascinating and surprisingly layered, especially knowing the deliberate attention to hanakotoba that was paid in certain cases, and it'll be interesting to see how it might continue to feature in the future.

Miya had to admit, hanging out with his friends was his favorite part of the week. The meetings were never planned, more-so just an impromptu event that took place. Today’s particular celebration was about Langa’s slow-rising report card grade! So, as they usually do, they gathered at Joe and Cherry’s place and celebrated till the cows came home.

The hustle and bustle of the celebration was immaculate, and poor Miya was positively exhausted.

At least, he should have been.

Instead, the poor kid was staring bug-eyed at the ceiling from his position on the couch.

He tossed and turned, overstimulated by the noises in the (should be quiet) room. Reki was snoring rather raucously, Cherry and Joe were engrossed in a gentle conversation, which didn’t much bother him, but it still added to the sound; not to mention the damned ceiling fan that squeaked every six seconds— oh yes, he counted.

The boy sighed and rubbed his burning eyes, subsequently covering his ears with his pillow and turning over on his side. His whole body felt ungodly heavy, and it almost hurt to breathe. He needed to sleep now.

Miya grimaced in exasperation, ready to make a pleaded announcement, until he felt a gentle brush of a hand along his forehead.

The young skater opened his bleary eyes and was met by the patient smile of Hiromi. The orange-haired male only mouthed something to him, since the boy was too tired to comprehend the noise that emitted. Whatever Hiromi offered was probably better than being where he was now, so he nodded, oblivious to whatever was said.

Hiromi wordlessly scooped the exhausted boy into his arms, letting his little head rest atop his shoulder. Miya wasn’t sure what the tall man had said, but he felt the rumble of speech beneath his torso. Soon enough, Shadow was leading them both down a secluded hallway.

When Miya saw the spare bedroom, he swore he could’ve cried in relief. He did sigh heavily, however, when he was carefully laid flat on his stomach. Hiromi exhaled fondly and sat next to the young skateboarder, gently tracing shapes up and down his back.

Miya’s shoulders gently heaved as breathy giggles filled the room. As the orange-haired male’s fingers neared the boy’s sides and neck, he would flinch a little.

“Everything okay, little buddy?” A whispered check-in filled the room.

“Y-Yehehes. Tihihihickles.” Miya hummed, unmoving.

Shadow’s lips screwed into a pouty smile as his brows furrowed. ‘So precious…’ he thought. He gently raked his blunt nails up and down Miya’s back, scribbling little patterns into it.

“S-Shahahadow—ehehehe— tihihihickles.” Miya’s giggles grew in volume, but no attempt to block the ticklish feeling was made.

“Shhhh, just relax; I know you’re exhausted.“ Hiromi cooed in a whispered reply, letting his fingers drag up to Miya’s neck.

The boy squealed and shrugged his shoulders. Hiromi chuckled a bit and stopped what he was doing, opting to lay down on the bed himself.

A sudden, gentle weight was pressed against his chest. The scent of strawberries filled his nostrils as black hairs tickled his nose. Hiromi opened his eyes to see that Miya had settled down atop of his torso, and had laid his head over the bulky skater’s heart. “Keep going… please?”

Hiromi smiled with a pout once more, continuing to trace the boy’s back and causing little giggles to slip out.

“Thahahanks.” The little guy was curling in on himself occasionally, causing the larger skater to stop every so often. “Nohohoho, ihihihits okahahahay. Feheheels gohohohood.”

Hiromi cradled the boy’s head and drew gentle circles on his back, hoping to gently lull the boy to sleep.

Shadow got his wish after ten minutes, for little Miya fell asleep silently with a big smile on his face.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY REKI!! ⭐🎉🎈

Everyone wish him happy birthday right now!

Lil Emi babbling time but Reki & sk8 genuinely means the world to me!! He is as I call him "the kinnie of all time" cause I identify with him in a way I never have with any other character before.

He's so passionate and loud and not at all shy about his interests, even if most don't seem to "get it" the way he does. He has and will make a fool of himself, makes mistakes and isn't a "perfect protagonist" like so many other sports anime. He never just "becomes the best" like you usually see, Reki is someone who has his own strengths and weaknesses. He just wants to skate and have fun with his friends even despite his insecurity.

The whole struggle of being surrounded by greatness when you feel iso average is something I've had to unlearn, along with the idea of being left behind and "unable to touch the stars" like others can, but i know that those who care will always stick around, just like he discovers.

I dunno man something about the way Reki's character is written is just,,, thats ME!! (not in a trans way btw he is just me if i was a silly lil guy and thats ok!)

Anyways i am chewing him in my mind, have a great birthday baby boy!

Do Better

Miya stretches with a yawn. Reki and Langa are chasing each other around the skate park, arguing about something. Everything aches, even though he’s pretty sure that he hasn’t been overworking himself. He still doesn’t get up to join them, because while he’s not sure why his joints feel like jello, he’s still not planning on going out there and hurting himself. Reki eventually walks over with Langa nowhere in sight.

“Hey, why aren’t you joining us? Normally you’d be skating circles around us by now just to prove that you could.”

Miya rolls his eyes before casting them back down.

“I’m just tired.”

“Oh, really?”

Miya nods gently while still keeping his head tucked into his arm. In fact his joints are starting to feel like someone is chisling at his bones, but he doesn’t say that. He just keeps his eyes down and lets Reki think whatever he ends up thinking.

“Ok, well you can go home. We won’t get offended.”

“I know. Not that I would have cared if you got offended anyway.”

Reki rolls his eyes.

“Alright, fine. I’m going, but I’ll see you later if you decide not to leave.”

Miya hums before letting his eyes fall closed. He doesn’t mean to fall asleep, but wakes up to Reki shaking his shoulder. The action hurts more than it should, and he can’t stop the hiss of pain from escaping his mouth.

“Woah dude, there’s no reason to make noises like that. I just wanted to let you know that we were heading to S now.”

Miya looks around, noticing that it’s dark outside. He sits up fully, biting the inside of his cheek.

“When did it get so late?” he mutters.

“I thought you were lying about being tired, but you fell asleep on this bench. Then stayed asleep the entire afternoon. Anyway, are you coming with us?”

“No, I’m going to go home.”

“Ok, see ya later then.”

Miya waves before grabbing his board and heading home. His mom is pacing by the time he gets in.

“Miya, baby, where were you?” She grabs his face, squishing him.

“Mom.”

She lets go of his face, but roughly grabs his shoulders. She’s still staring at him, and her grip is tight enough to hurt.

“I just got side tracked while I was out with my friends.”

“It’s almost ten at night.”

“I know, I’m sorry, Mom.”

“You know that I don’t want you out when it’s dark.”

Yeah, and that’s why I’m sneaking out of my window to go to an illegal skating ring.

“I know, Mom, and I’m really sorry. We were inside so I didn’t realize how late it was getting.”

“You know that I’m going to have to call their parents, right?”

Miya’s brain short circuits for a few seconds before he realizes that she thinks he’s talking about his old friends. The ones that he never told her he stopped hanging out with.

“You can’t,” he blurts out before his brain can really catch up with what he’s doing. All Miya can think is that she has to stop before his old friend’s parents tell her that they don’t talk anymore.

“Why not?” she asks, narrowing her eyes.

“Because it’s not the friends that you’ve already met.”

Her eyes brighten immediately.

“Oh, so you made new friends?”

“Yes, Mom. I made a couple new friends. You wouldn’t have their parents’ numbers. Actually, I’ve never even met their parents.”

“Ok, who are these new friends?”

“Their names are Reki and Langa. They’re a little bit older than me.”

“How old are they?”

“Reki’s sixteen, and I think Langa is seventeen.”

“That’s really old. How did you meet these boys?”

“They skateboard, and they were at the rink that I practice at on my days off.”

“Ok, well, you promise that you were safe?”

Miya nods, and she hugs him one more time.

“In that case, it’s ok. Just go get some sleep, and try not to do it again.”

Miya nods, then heads straight up the stairs. He doesn’t tell her that he didn’t eat, or that he feels like his body might fall apart at any given minute. He just throws himself into bed, and goes to sleep. He doesn’t feel much better when he wakes up in the morning, and his head feels foggy. He goes to get up, but ends up falling out of bed.

“Ow.”

Someone knocks on his door, and he calls, “You can come in.”

He’s still untangling himself from his bedding when his dad walks in.

“Hey, kid, what are you doing?” he asks.

Miya freezes.

“I was just trying to get up.”

“Well, you’re going to be late.”

“It’s Saturday, isn’t it? I shouldn’t have anything to be late to.”

“You have practice with your manager, and another interview today.”

“Do I have to? I think there’s something wrong with me.”

“What do you mean?”

“Either I’m sick, or I’ve just been overworking myself. I just feel off.”

His dad walks over and puts a hand on his forehead. He sighs as he stands back up.

“I know that things have been hard lately, but you need to follow through on the commitments that you’ve made. You don’t have to pretend to be sick.”

Miya closes his eyes for a second then says, “Ok, I’ll meet you outside. I just have to change.”

His dad nods, then walks back out. Miya stays on the floor for another few minutes. Then he gets up, changes, brushes his hair and teeth, then heads outside to meet his dad. The drive is quiet, and Miya has to force himself to stay awake for the whole thing.

His dad walks in with him, then says, “I’ll meet you here in a few hours. I have some errands to run, but I’ll be back to pick you up.”

Miya frowns.

“Can’t you stay?”

“Why?”

“I just don’t… I don’t know.”

“You need to get better at dealing with these things yourself.”

Miya stares at the ground.

I deal with everything by myself! I always had to do everything myself before I met my friends. I was always in charge, even as a child. 

He doesn’t say any of that, just heads inside without replying. His manager is waiting for him, already annoyed that he’s late.

“You have to learn to manage your time, Chinen.”

“I’m not normally late,” Miya mutters, but it’s not loud enough for anyone to actually hear him.

Even warming up feels hard. His joints ache, and his muscles are protesting his every move. His brain is still struggling to keep up with everything. His manager keeps yelling at him to hurry up. Miya doesn’t pay him any mind, doesn’t speed up, or even respond. By the time he’s done warming up, the news people are there, and he’s already exhausted.

“Since they’re already here, we have to do the interview first,” his manager says, and Miya just nods.

He listens to their questions about how he got as good as he is, and about his support systems, and how he balances normal life and this. He doesn’t really give an answer to any of these, just kind of non-answers. Everyone looks confused by the time they’re done, and his manager looks furious.

As soon as they’re gone, he says, “What did we say about your people skills?”

“That they suck, and I need to do better,” Miya replies though he’s not sure how he actually phrased it.

“You do need to work on that, but I didn’t say they sucked. Haven’t you been hanging out with more people recently? Shouldn’t that have helped, or were you lying to me about what you were doing?”

“I wasn’t lying. You do not want me to talk to them the way I talk to my friends though.”

“Whatever, just get started on your training. You know it’s a day to work on your new tricks.”

“I don’t want to. Can’t we do something else today?”

Something that won’t make my hands hurt.

“No. I know it’s hard, but you can do it. You’re one of the best people your age in the entire world.”

Miya rolls his eyes.

“You can cut the flattery. It’s not going to make me more cooperative. I’m doing it, but I’m not happy.”

He walks over to grab his phone. He texts his dad to pick him up, lying that they got off of practice early. His dad texts back almost immediately saying that he’s still busy, but that he’ll get there as soon as he’s done with his errands. Miya can just wait inside until he’s back. Miya puts his phone back then grabs his board.

He makes it through twenty minutes of training before his right hand gives out entirely. Since he was putting his weight on it, the balance shift sends his skateboard flying. He slams into the wall with a crack. His awareness fades for a second, and his manager is beside him when his vision comes back. His hand is throbbing terribly from where he hit the wall.

“I’m going to call your dad.”

Miya nods though he doesn’t say anything, because if he opens his mouth it is not going to be words that come out of it. It feels like a long time before his manager comes back over, holding his phone.

“He didn’t answer me, so I want to try calling him on your phone.”

Miya nods, then with his good hand, which is still shaking pretty badly, he punches in the code. His dad still doesn’t answer, so he takes the phone. He calls Cherry, putting the phone up to his ear.

“What’s going on?” Cherry answers, curt and to the point.

“Can you come pick me up?” Miya asks, aware of how bad he sounds. His voice is wavering, and he’s physically shaking hard enough to affect his voice.

“Yes, where are you?”

Miya gives him the address.

“I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

Those ten minutes feel eternally long, and his hand just keeps hurting more. Cherry looks worried when he comes in, and he looks even more worried when he sees Miya.

“Who is that?” his manager asks.

“What happened?” Cherry asks, kneeling down beside Miya. He hasn’t even looked at Miya’s manager.

“He was trying to nail a new trick, and fell. He hit the wall pretty hard.”

“Do we need to go to the hospital?” Cherry asks, gently taking Miya’s arm to look at it.

“I think so. I left my dad a voicemail while you were on your way here, so he can meet us there.”

“Alright, come on.”

Cherry helps him up, keeping an arm around him to make sure that he doesn’t fall.

Once they’re in Cherry’s car, he says, “So, what actually happened? Did you just fall?”

“No, I need to do better. If I did better, this wouldn’t have happened.”

Cherry frowns.

“Just walk me through what happened today, because Reki told us how off you were yesterday afternoon.”

“I think I’m sick, but everyone just kept telling me to do better. Have better people skills, and stop lying and faking. I didn’t know what to say to make them understand that I wasn’t lying. Then my hands gave out on me, and I practically flew into a wall. I think my wrist might be broken.”

Cherry winces, though his face is hard.

“I think I need to have a word with your father. Sending you to do this while you’re sick is absolutely unacceptable. Also I know that you’re not lying about being sick enough to warrant that being his first response.”

Miya looks down.

“You don’t have to talk to him. I probably shouldn’t have called you at all. This is a lot to ask already.”

“No it’s not. In fact, I’m going to call Kojiro to meet us at the hospital. I was with him when you called. He was really worried, and I said I’d call him once I knew what was going on.”

“You don’t have to ask him to come down here,” Miya asks as they pull into the parking lot.

“I know, and I won’t be. Once he hears what happened, he’s coming without anyone asking.”

Miya hums. They head inside, and Cherry calls Joe once he gets them checked in. The next few hours are spent waiting with Joe and Cherry. His dad shows up while he’s getting his hand X-Rayed. Miya can tell that they already ripped him a new one by the time he comes back.

“Was it broken?” Cherry asks gently, his tone soft.

Miya nods, and his dad immediately hugs him.

“I’m sorry.”

Miya nods against his shoulder, too tired to do anything else.

“Can we go home now?”

“Yes, I’ll do the rest of the paperwork while you stay with these two. Then we can go home, and we’ll wait to talk about this till tomorrow,” he says, glancing at Cherry and Joe.

“Ok.”

After he walks away, Miya turns back to Joe and Cherry.

“Thanks.”

“It’s no issue, kid. We’re always available for this kind of thing. Also, give me your address cause I want to drop off some food tonight.”

“Ok, but can you wait until tomorrow? I’m going to give my parents some kind of bullshit explanation for how I know you two, but I don’t want to do that until tomorrow. I just want to get some sleep.”

Joe nods.

“Of course.”

It's me. Hi. I'm asking about the son of hephaestus!Reki post. It's me.

you ask this as if you dont know about my mad descent back into greek mythology brainrot. But ANYWAY

Reki is a basic choice - building, crafting, creative. Baby boy builds shit from his own two hands, mostly based on experimenting. We see it, he makes his own calculations and tried new and unconventional things, which is giving Hephaestus. Also, there's that imposter syndrome of his or inferiority complex which, while not being a tradition Hephaestus Trait(tm), just gives me Hepheastus vibes. Like this god is essentially the outcast of the Olympians, he got yeeted by his mother off a mountain, is rejected constantly and is just. yeah. Except for Reki it's all in his head because he isn't actually rejected.

Langa is uuuhhhh...... Self indulgent. I wanted Renga to be what Aphrodite and Hephaestus could never be. But also. Dite is beauty and love (and sexuality but whatever). Langa is admired by all (canonically) and is FUCKING PRETTY GODDAMNIT. And I think Langa is a good characterization of Love. And not just person love. Like yes, he loves his friends, he's in love with Reki, but he represents love of an activity, especially once with Reki. Which goes back to what Dite and Hephaestus could never be. Langa, alone, feels nothing. Love, alone, is nothing. Love has to have an object, and Langa's love of skating (and Reki) kinda represents that. Langa's love of sports has a person object. Snowboarding = Oliver. Skating = Reki. And what is Dite? She is love. Langa loves.

Also. Langa is idolized by everyone, something that's heavily associated with Dite. Because of her beauty (because of Langa's beauty on a board), she is idolized and a lot are jealous of her (*cough* Trojan War *cough*). What is Reki? Jealous of Langa because he surpassed him. So Langa being a Dite kid just makes sense. Also he could probably get away with anything he wants if he put in the effort.

And before someone goes BUT APHRODITE IS SEX I think it would be funny for a Dite kid to be asexual. It's just a bit ol' fuck you to the stereotype of Dite kid = sex.

I haven’t read a lot for botw but I can recommend these:

The Curious Minds by AllTheGoodUserNamesAreTaken The story is amazing and I’m pretty much obsessed with it. It’s a BL (Link / OC), slow burn. It’s still in progress but Holly (all hail Holly!) updates it pretty regularly.

Another BL (this one is finished) and also Link/OC is Something Greater by busket. It has quite a bit of humor and is much more lighthearted than The Curious Minds. The OC is also pretty interesting.

If you are a Link/Mipha fan then there is A Fish out of Water by JamesYorke. It’s an old story, still unfinished but it’s very good.

The Chronic Hero Perspective by niklitera [BL] I’m in the middle of reading the first part and it.is.AH-mazing. The main character is an OC and a new professor in Harry’s third year. It touches a lot about growing as a person and about mental problems and it’s rather dark but very worth it

-- The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System --

Metagaming by esama [tagged as BL but nothing happened in the first two parts yet, humor, part 2 is already written and it’s just as good]

Qiong Ding's Littlest Shidi by Araceil [BL, between OC and Binghe. It’s tagged as Harry Potter crossover but I’ve seen nothing connecting it to HP and consider the mc as an OC instead of Harry’s reincarnation. It’s abandoned but the author posted a summary of the rest of the story at the end. I love it for the wonderful portrayal of YQQ and SQQ and the way it shows them actually explaining their past and making up. Also, it’s a FOUND FAMILY and I dig this shit]
