I spent all my spare time today making him a 5hr long playlist but in my defence I asked him for is Spotify on repeat playlist and he sent me a playlist he made back instead so I kinda had to right?
I've had a playlist made for me and honestly I thought that was cute as heck but I've never actually made a boy a proper playlist. I've made ones about relationships but never made a playlist to actually send to one.
I'm nervous. He's sleeping. He said he'd listen to it at work and I was like oh no that's an awful idea. I've not made a work appropriate playlist in my life.
Anyway it's almost like 2am and I've abandoned all responsibility.. I need balance. I need sleep.
#he said its cause the girls at work messed up his spotify cause he lets them use it#oh i lied but i only got 2 songs in and gave up#sailor boy#diary#i am sick#and uh haha this playlist is just for him only him no one else#this is fucking vunerable af for me#we will see if he still wants to do a cute lil hotel getaway after he listens to my head đđđđđ

Summary: The reader gives Spooky an ultimatum when he abandons Cesar.
Pairing: Spooky x black!reader
Warnings: Mention of smut & language.
Bacon was sizzling in the pan, the potatoes and eggs were being kept warm in the oven, and you were flipping tortillas while dancing to your Spotify playlist.
âGood morning,â Spooky greeted you, his voice full of sleep.
Still mad that he didnât care that Cesar had nowhere to go you ignored him and the one thing Spooky hates is being ignored.
He caged you in between him and the stove. âYou still giving me the silent treatment, ma?â
You wanted to bump him out of the way, but you didnât feel like hearing him yell, so you actually spoke to your boyfriend. âCan you please move? I need to get the eggs and potatoes out of the oven.â
Stepping back, Spooky moved and took a seat at the table. Bending down you got the food out the oven and you could feel him admiring your ass.
Silently, you made his and yours plates, slightly slamming his plate down. Oscar always led the prayer and the only time he heard you spoke was the amen.
Halfway into breakfast, you broke and told Spooky whatâs been on your mind. âIâm gonna let Cesar stay with me.â
Oscar put down the taco that was halfway to his mouth and just stare you. To others it was supposed to be intimidating, but to you it didnât mean shit. âRun that by me one more time.â
âIâm gonna let Cesar stay with me,â you repeated yourself, resuming to eat your food.
âNo, youâre not. Heâs not allowed on Santosâ streets and no girlfriend of a Santo would do that.â
âWell, one of those could easily change.â The threat of yâall breaking up is what caused Spookyâs usual calm demeanor to change. He backed out his seat, causing the chair to scrape across the floor, grabbed your seat to face him and leaned over you.
âYou threatening to break up with me?â
Pulling his face closer to you, you kissed him aggressively. First, he was shocked because Spooky was the aggressive one, but once he was over the shock, he got used to it until he wanted to dominate you. Remembering that you needed some air and you had to tell Spooky something, you broke the kiss. âThatâs exactly what I mean,â you whispered against his lips.
Oscar pushed off the chair and started pacing. âWhat do you want me to do? The cuchillos made that call, not me.â
âOh, I donât know, maybe put your family over the Santos,â you say sarcastically.
âThe Santos are my family!â Oscar yelled back.
Unfazed by his outburst, you began cleaning up. Spooky eyed you warily, knowing you could go off at him at any moment for him yelling at you, but you never did. You continued cleaning the kitchen, then headed to the room to change.
When you came back out, you had your overnight bag in your hand. âYou can throw away the rest of my things. I donât need em.â
Spooky tried to snatch the bag out your hand but you were faster. âY/N, quit your shit and put the bag down. Now!â He ordered you.
âNo! I tried to reason with you last night and you blew me off. I tried again this morning and you still wonât budge. Iâm not gonna let an innocent kid, a kid I consider a like a little brother live on the streets. So, if you and the rest of the Santos have an issue with it, yâall can kiss my black ass!â You walked towards the front door, but Spooky blocked your exit.
âYou think you can do whatever you want because youâre the so-called Princess of Freeridge? You donât even know how hard it is to live in Freeridge!â
Princess of Freeridge was a nickname that you believed you didnât deserve. Your dad was the one, who was born and raised in Freeridge, and he was respected by all. He wasnât affiliated with either the Santos or the Prophets, but both gangs knew not to mess with him, he was dangerous on his own. Eventually, he got out of the hood, got a football scholarship, and made into the NFL.
Once, your dad was big time, your grandma refused to leave her house in Freeridge and being a big mommaâs boy, your dad made you and your brothers visit Freeridge frequently. You mustâve been just like your dad, because you took to Freeridge instantly. It was like you were meant to thrive in that neighborhood. Even your dad noticed, and he always said he felt more comfortable with you in Freeridge by yourself than your three older brothers. Also, it didnât hurt that your uncle, who your dad could barely stand was a Prophet.
With street cred from your dad and uncle, you were practically untouchable in Freeridge. Whenever you were in Freeridge, you somehow always ended up hanging out with Spooky, which eventually turned into a romance.
As you got older, you tried to help the community. You organized various block parties against gun violence, built a community center named after your dad, and helped ex-convicts find legal and sustainable income. But eventually, you would go back to your home in the hills and live your ârich girl lifeâ as Spooky would describe it.
A knock on the door alerted you. When you reached for the doorknob, Oscar slapped your hand away and pushed you behind him, being his overprotective self.
One look out the door and Spooky rolled his eyes. âOh, you called this pendejo?â
The man he was referring to was your bodyguard, Ray. Even though you could hold your own and no one would be stupid enough to try something with you (except them youngâins as your dad claimed), your dad insisted that you have a bodyguard especially since you came from a famous family.
Ray ignored Spooky and turned his attention to you. âY/N, you ready? Everything at your grandmotherâs is ready.â
Ray and Spooky never liked each other. Spooky swore up and down that Ray had a crush on you and would put the moves on you if he had the chance. Ray, a veteran and an ex-convict himself said Spooky was too small-minded. If he was gonna be a criminal, it better be to make his life better and he believed that it wasnât and that Spooky was gonna drag you down, not elevate you.
âYeah, Iâm ready Ray. Can you take my bag to the car? I just need to speak to Oscar real quick.â Hesitantly, Ray stepped off the porch to the car.
Grabbing each of Spookyâs hands, you pulled him into a hug. âI love you and I will always love you. Just when you come to your senses, let me know, Oscar.â You kissed him goodbye and hoped with all your heart that he would change his mind.
â
Weeks had passed since you saw Spooky, but you never really had the time. You had to take care of Cesar, listen to his own relationship problems, make sure your play cousin Jamal didnât get in anymore trouble, and work.
A girlfriend of another Santo bumped into you at the grocery store and told you about the party the Santos were having. She insisted you go because all the hoes would be on Spooky since he was single.
Jealousy reared its ugly head and thatâs how you ended up at the party. And homegirl was right, girls were all over Spooky. You were about to go in on him when you saw a very underage person by all the liquor.
âAy, Ruby what are you doing here?â You questioned one of Cesarâs best friends.
The endearing but annoying teen looked up to you with low eyes. âYour ex-boyfriend dragged me here. And by the way, may I mention that your post-breakup glow is phenomenal.â
Leaning down, you gave him a kiss on the cheek. âThank you. Just for that I wonât give you any shit about drinking, as long as you can hold your liquor.â Even if he didnât compliment you, you wouldnât have snitched on him. It wasnât too long ago when you were the one drinking underage.
Taking a drink of your own, you roamed around the party, mingled with some folks until one of the girls in Spookyâs lap decided to say something. âWhat are you doing here? Didnât Spooky drop your ugly ass?â
Choosing to ignore her for the sake of the party, you turned around and walked away, but homegirl didnât get the message and pulled you by the shoulder. âDidnât you hear me, you Prophet bitch?â Her words barely registered in your head, because all you could do is stare at the hand, she decided to touch you with.
Everyone else got quiet to watch the showdown, but Spooky rushed to intervene. He knew once you got that glossy look in your eye it wasnât long before you started swinging and there was no way Bianca could hold herself against you. Even Spooky was scared to try you.
âBianca, yo, chill!â Spooky tried to warn the girl, but she was too dumb for her own good.
âNo, fuck that! This little rich girl thinks just because her dad grew up in Freeridge, she can do whatever she wants, but she ainât one of us! Sheâs more of a Prophet because of her bitch-ass uncle and cousin. She doesnât deserve a Santo like you, Spooky.â Then the dumb bitch decided she could kiss Spooky in front of you. When she finished, she let Spooky go and smirked at you like she just won him. If she had any social awareness, she wouldâve noticed he was disgusted by the kiss.
One look at you and Spooky knew he couldnât stop you. He slyly stepped out of the way and let you do your thing.
You werenât one for talking, so you let your fist fly and connect with Biancaâs jaw. She was out cold with one punch. People thought you were soft because you grew up privilege, but you always proved them wrong. They seemed to forget that you had three older brothers, all in professional sports, and one was a mma fighter. Hell, you basically grew up fighting.
Biancaâs friends tried to jump you, but none had hands like you. âDonât you even fucking dare, Spooky,â you warned him against trying to get the girls off you.
Eventually, they gave up because of the embarrassment of getting beat up by one girl. Leaning over a semi-conscious Bianca, you told her and the other girls surrounding, âLeave Spooky alone and keep my name out your mouth or I wonât go easy on you next time.â
You gave her one good kick and turned to grab Spooky, tonguing him down in front of everyone, marking your territory. The hoots and hollers from everyone alerted you that you werenât alone, so you stopped kissing him.
Spooky had that lustful look in his eyes and you knew your drought was about to end. He threw you over his shoulder and led you to his house while everyone else cheered you on.
Once inside the house, Spooky set you on your feet and tried to kiss, but you moved out of the way. Hurt that you rejected him, Spooky threw a photo of you and him across the room. âWhat the fuck are you doing here, Y/N? You gonna claim me in public and reject me in private? What do you want?!â
The pain in his voice caused you to cry. Never in your life have you ever heard Spooky this emotional and to know you were the cause was breaking your heart. âYou,â you whispered in between hiccups.
âYou got me, baby. Come back home.â He opened up his arms, inviting you back.
Shaking your head, you countered, âI canât. Not unless your taking Cesar back.â
Spooky ran his hands from the back of his head to the front of his face. This woman was going to drive him crazy. âCome here.â He ordered, taking a seat on the couch. You followed his instructions and instead of sitting next to him, you sat in his lap. Snuggling into him you smelled the beer, weed, and mesquite wood making an intoxicating scent that described him.
Gripping your chin hardly and staring deep into your eyes, Spooky began to speak. âYou gotta keep this to yourself. I mean you canât tell anybody. Not even your pops, understand?â
Sitting up straighter at the seriousness Oscarâs voice you nodded your head yes. âWhatâs going on, Oscar?â You asked, only using his government name when you were serious.
He began telling you of his and Cesarâs plan of getting him back in the good graces of the Santos. They planned on setting up the Prophets and he even ensured that it didnât involve your uncle getting caught up.
When he finished explaining, you stood up from his lap and began pacing. Your silence was making Spooky nervous, he grabbed your hand to stop you. âBaby, you good?â
Slapping his hand away, you stood over him and began yelling. âHell no! You mean to tell me Iâve been moping around about your ass for weeks and almost fucked another guy, for you to tell me youâve been playing me?â
âWho you almost fuck?â Spooky disregarded the rest and wanted to know who was dumb enough to mess with Spookyâs girl.
âNah, donât worry about that. Did you fuck any of those bitches, Oscar Diaz?â You were hovering over him, pointing your index and middle finger on his temple, not caring that he didnât tolerate that type of disrespect.
Spooky smiled up at you. He was happy that you were just as possessive over him as he was over you. âNo, quierda.â He pulled you into his lap, nuzzling his face into your neck. âI love your crazy ass too much to do that.â
âI love you too,â you muttered against his lips before kissing him. Spookyâs hands went from your hips to under shirt to your bra strap. To help him out you shrugged your shirt off and once it was off it was like he sobered up. Spooky pushed you off his lap and he stood up looking for your shirt.
âWhat the hell, Spooky?â
âThis plan ainât happening until a couple of weeks and for no one to suspect anything we need to keep up appearances.â Spooky explained, trying his best not to continue what you started.
âWhich means youâre still not talking to Cesar and weâre still not together,â you finished for him. âHow are we gonna explain tonight?â
Spooky waved you off and smacked his lips. âMan, Julio and his girl breakup and fuck all the time. It ainât far-fetch for us to be doing the same.â
Smirking you reached out for Spookyâs belt to undo. âWe havenât fucked yet.â
To stop you, Spooky grabbed your wrists and turned your back against his chest. âAnd weâre not until all this is over, because if I get one taste of you, Iâm not stopping.â
He was right, both of you could be insatiable. Reluctantly, you put your shirt on and began making your way to the door. You wanted to stay the night, but the temptation was too great.
âIâm sorry, I lied to you for so long. I didnât want to involve you with all this.â
Caressing his cheek, you replied. âNo, I shouldâve known better. Under all that roughness, youâre a good man, Oscar Diaz.â You reached up to kiss him on the spot where your hand was.
Turning the doorknob, you were about to open the door when Spooky stopped you. âAye, whoâs the fool thatâs dumb enough to try to fuck you?â
âNo one important,â you rolled your eyes at him.
âJust let him Iâll shoot him if I need to.â
âStop it!â Hitting him in the stomach to reprimand him. âIâll call you when I get home.â
As soon as you opened the door there was a bunch of cheers for Spooky. All of his friends hyped for him âgetting some.â To put on a show, he smacked your ass when you turned to walk to your car. Â You glared back at Spooky to let him know he would pay for that, but it didnât faze him. Instead he smiled and mouthed âI love you.â And at that you couldnât be too mad, because despite all the ups and downs Spooky always had the best intentions and was the man for you.

âQuero umâno, fuckâun paquete de cigarros?â you said to the shop attendant. Spanish was no easy task. It was a dumb decision to come here without any knowledge of the language, but you had assumed some university-level Portuguese would help. Apparently not, because the man behind the counter shot you a confused look as he pulled a pack from the shelves behind them. He understood, that was clear, but you didnât know the words.
âElla quiere unas Pielrojas porfa, con filtro,â said a voice behind you, âNo esos malditos y caros Marlboros. Bueno, que sean dos y yo pago.â
âSeñor Peña, ÂżcĂłmo vas?â the shopkeeper said, and you turned to look at this âSeñor Peña.â
He was a bit taller than you, and more than a bit older. Tanned skin, tight pants, a pink shirt. A large pair of orange-tinted sunglasses masked his eyes.
âMuy biĂ©n, Roberto, Âży cĂłmo va tu esposa?â He said, and the shopkeeper laughed. You only caught a few words of the exchange and were unsure if you were getting your cigarettes.
You flew into BogotĂĄ the day before and had just gotten settled at the hostel youâd be staying in for the next couple of weeks. It had been a solid three days since youâd had a smoke and you wanted to go to the park nearby and relax.
The man turned to you and began to speak with a rough but refreshingly familiar American accent, tinged with the light musicality of the Southern states, âIâm sorry maâam for the interruption, but Roberto here was going to try to sell you the Marlboros, which are much to overpriced, and I couldnât let a pretty little thing like you get ripped off like that.â
âThank you? But I can handle myself,â you said.
âObviously not, you sound like youâre confusing Portuguese for Spanish, which just wonât cut it here,â he said, turning to pay for the two boxes that Roberto placed on the counter.
He tossed you one pack, which you fumbled with, clutching it against your stomach to ensure it didnât fall. He laughed.
âThat right thereâs a pack of Pielroja, itâs loosely packed, so I hope you donât mind, but itâs cheaper, local, and ten times better,â he said.
âThanks,â you said. As interesting as the guy was, you really wanted to leave for the park. Colombia wasnât your first rodeo, but somehow every new country was exhausting between the 24th and 32nd hour marks.
âYouâre welcome,â he said as you brushed by him and walked out the door.
Outside the shop, you paused to fish your lighter out of your bag.
âSo whatâs an American girl doing in BogotĂĄ all alone?â The man was back, standing in front of you.
âYou just donât stop, do you?â
âNot really, no,â he grinned, leaning back against the building.
You opened the pack of cigarettes he bought you, lit one, and drew it to your lips.
âSo, do you like it?â he was messing around with his own box and pulled out one. He held it out to you, silently asking for you to light it. You complied.
You werenât sure if he was talking about cigarettes or BogotĂĄ. âItâs nice. So far,â you said, exhaling smoke.
He laughed again, this time bringing a smile to your face. He had a nice laugh.
âYou never answered me, what are you doing here?â
âTeaching English at an elementary school nearby, I start next week,â you said.
His eyebrows shot up, âHow old are you? 20?â
â22.â
âWhat kind of 22-year-old wants to be a schoolteacher?â he said.
âMe, apparently,â you said, âBut itâs not my career or anything. Graduated last May, Iâve been traveling and teaching English, got a gig here, whole school year, pays pretty well, Iâm excited.â
âYouâre crazy,â he said, â22, fresh out of college, your only experience out of the states was probably in Europe, and youâre gonna teach kids? In Colombia?â
âWhatâs wrong with a bit of crazy?â you said.
âWhatâs your name?â he asked, ignoring your question.
âY/N.â
âY/N,â he said. You liked how he said your name. âIâm Javier.â
âNice to meet you,â you said, staring at him propped up against the building.
The top two buttons of his shirt were open, and a thin sheen of sweat lay over his chest and face. Something about the look with the broad mustache made him appear like he was stuck in â73. His smile was one of those that reached the eyes and spilled into those around him.
You exhaled carefully.
âSo, what are you doing in Colombia?â you asked.
âI work for the American embassy,â he said. There was a pause as he waited for the impressed look on your face that never came.
âWhat is this then, a welcome package?â you asked, chuckling to yourself.
âIt could be,â he pushed himself off the wall and took another drag, âBut then again, youâre only 22.â
âWhat does that have toâoh.â You found yourself laughing again. Javier was the sort of guy that youâd probably slap in the face back in the USA. But here, with the cloud cover doing nothing to mask the heat and humidity, the smell of papaya and passion fruit wafting through the air, you were only amused.
âSee you around, Y/N,â Javier said, and he walked down the sidewalk before turning a corner and disappearing.
Five days of getting to know hundreds of students in different classes during the first week of school, all while trying to develop lesson plans, left you lying in your hostel bed on a Friday night. You were alone in the room, the rest of the residents out partying, as per usual for a hostel in the middle of a city.
You would have loved to be out too, Colombian Rock and rum thrumming through your body, dancing with someone, going home with someone.
But you had spent too much energy this week and partying would have to wait. You had a year left in BogotĂĄ, at least another 50 Friday nights. Lesson planning would let up once you got into a rhythm. And figured out a living situation.
One of the other teachers had offered her spare bedroom during February and a bit of March, but her daughter would be back in town after that, and youâd lose the space. The wait until you got your own space in February felt far away. March even further. But planning for that needed to happen sooner rather than later. The hostel bed was killing you, and you hated the drunk guys coming and going.
At least you knew youâd be alone for another hour. No one dared come back before midnight; if you were caught calling it an early night it was certain fodder for shame the next morning. At least, that was the way your roommates worked.
Still, to be safe, you closed the curtain, encapsulating yourself on your bed in the darkness. You closed your eyes and slipped one hand down your stomach, dipping under the waistband of your pants and into your underwear.
As your fingers brushed over your clit, you let out a small gasp, your free hand fisting into the sheets. The last time you had been touched was over a month ago, back during the cold December winter weather in Brussels. You worked your hand across your slit, telling yourself this had to be a one-time thing. You would go out, find a good hookup this week.
Your brain was overworking, shuddering in pleasure, and the man from last week flickered across your vision: Javier.
You imagined his chest, the open shirt leaving a trail right down his chest, glowing in the sun. You slipped a finger inside, gasping at the sensation.
He would probably take you to bed if you played your cards right. If you found him again. He seemed to have that kind of character. You remembered his last words to you, suggestive and sensual.
He was older, probably by a lot. You shouldnât be thinking about him, but you wanted him to hold you in his arms, kiss your neck. You imagined how heâd taste, probably like cigarettes and whiskey.
The thought of his hands snaking down your waist, pulling you closer almost sent you over and you moved your fingers faster. His smile, snarky and self-obsessed as it was, had worked its way into your brain, and you wondered where he was now.
Did he remember you? Had he laid in bed like you were now, getting himself off to your name? And that image, flooding into your brain, as unrealistic as it was, caused you to almost scream out loud, your whole body spasming.
Finally relaxed, your body almost limp on the bed, you became aware of the layer of sweat that now covered your body, and made up your mind to take a shower. As soon as you recover. That was the best orgasm you had had in months. But where had those thoughts come from?
You had only seen Javier that one time, right outside the corner store, then tried and failed to shove him out of your mind. In the few minutes you had known him, you had decided he was an asshole who didnât deserve your time, but the sort of asshole you could see yourself becoming good friends with.
If he was years younger, you could have imagined traveling with him, continuing your round-the-world travels with Javier would have been amazing. You had seen so many things during your six months in Europe and met so many people. Many of the backpackers at the youth hostels you stayed at traveled with others. Mostly, they were single, their companions just good fun and friendship for the journey.
You had long since imagined meeting someone on the road like they did, someone that would sweep you off your feet and set aside a year of their life to spend with you, hopping from country to country, odd job to odd job.
Javierâs shit-eating grin and verbal wit would stick in your mind long after you left Colombia. And here you were, getting off to him.
If he lived in BogotĂĄ? Worked at the embassy, probably lived nearby? Youâd probably see him again. And youâd have to look at him in the eye, the only thing running through your mind the memory of tonight.
You wanted to see him again. Wanted to have lunch and smoke with him. Wanted him to show you around. But after what you just did, you didnât know if that was possible.
Sex was no stranger to you, the one night stands being a common figure in your life throughout college, but even you wouldnât go for someone as old as him. You had standards. A guy his age was reserved for friendship. At least, thatâs what you told yourself. Until now.
âGod, Iâm fucked,â you breathed out, sitting up and gathering your shower stuff before heading to the bathroom.
Javier had returned to the corner store every day for the past two weeks, hoping to catch a glimpse of you again. He was back today, 15:30, hopefully after school got out, he imagined, eyes scanning the store as he lingered by the refrigerators full of six-packs.
The bell rang as someone walked in and he looked up. You stood there, exhausted from a day of child-wrangling and his eyes lit up.
All you wanted was a bottle of something and a shitty candy bar. You were roaming the aisles, trying to settle between the foreign brands of chocolate when Javier approached.
âY/N,â he said, causing you to startle as you looked up. A deep red blush began to blossom across your cheeks as you took him in. He was even better in person.
âJavier, what a coincidence, running into you here again,â that was a lie. You walked past four other stores just to come here, hoping he would be nearby.
âYeah... a coincidence,â he said, reaching down to grab a candy bar. âThis oneâs the best, that is, if you like milk chocolate.â
âSo two weeks later and all youâre still giving me local product recommendations? You should write for the newspaper,â you laughed, signaling you didnât want the chocolate when he tried to hand it to you, âBut youâd be wrong, because the only good chocolate is dark chocolate.â
âYou like that bitter shit?â he said, still holding the bar in his hands.
You reached down for something that said 85% and figured that would be dark enough for you.
âGross,â he said.
âYou can leave,â you said.
You didnât want him to leave.
âDo you want to go for a coffee?â he said. âYou look exhausted.â
âReal good way to charm a woman,â it should have stung, but when Javier said it, you smiled.
âThat, um, sounded bad, didnât it?â his brow was furrowed and his smile was gone.
âYeah, it did,â you kept smiling, hoping he would light up again. You wanted his excited face burnt into your memory. âSo, whatâs the best cafĂ© around here?â
âAre you some kind of heathen who takes their coffee with no sugar or milk to go with your raw chocolate beans? If so, I have no suggestions because thatâs disgusting.â
You laughed, loudly, with your whole body, âUnfortunately for you, I do. But if you give me a good cafĂ© con leche Iâll drink it.â
âGood, because youâre not going to get away with that bar of chocolate and coffee with no add-ins.â
âI worry you have a sweet tooth and canât appreciate good flavors,â you said. It was so easy to talk with him. He knew exactly what to say to keep you smiling as he leaned against the display like he owned the place.
âI donât have a sweet tooth, you just like your food to hurt you,â he said, âLetâs go, thereâs a good cafĂ© down the block.â
He reached out to grab your hand and you almost lost it. His palm was soft and his grip firm.
Javier led you to the register where he flung his arm around your shoulders, âRoberto, te acuerdas de Y/N, Âżverdad?â
Roberto chuckled, ringing up your two chocolate bars, âPor supuesto.â
He leaned towards you and said, in broken English, âCareful. Señor Peña is crazy man, yes? He is flirt but he doesnât mean it.â
Javier laughed, âNo somos una pareja, Roberto, somos amigos. Solo amigos.â
You understood that part. You were friends. You grinned. After just ten minutes of talking over two weeks, Javier thought of you as a friend.

Jimin woke up first shifting in the sheets. It took a little time for his mind to realize where he was and what have happened the night before. He could feel the light passing through the window escaping the drapes and going directly to his tired and half sleep eyes. âI canât believe I did this.. Not with y\n.. Iâm an asshole.. â
The events of the past night starting to come to his mind in flashes. Good flashes. Memorable flashes. Never going to happen again flashes. He tried to not do sudden movements to not wake her. She was turned to the other side snoring. Jimin couldnât help but laugh. So beautiful and so real. Y/n wasnât moving, so he tried to think in what to do. What do you do when you sleep with your friend? What is the appropriate thing to do? He had no idea.
He started to notice the bedroom he was in. The bed was a mess. Sheets all over the place, their clothes spared across the bedroom, his cell phone was not in sight. âshit. What Iâm going to do? The members are gonna kill me.â He passed his hands in his face, frustrated.
Jimin  noticed Y\n starts moving and slowly turn to his side and the panic took over his body. Y\n opened her eyes slowly trying to understand where she was. The same flashbacks passed through her head. âshitâ, was all she could think. She suddenly notices a freeze Jimin sitting beside her, his foots touching the ground. He was absolutely frozen, looking like a statue. "A beautiful, sexy and gentle statue," she thought. âAnd hotâ.
-Hi.. â she was the one to talk first. Jimin jumped a little getting out of his own mind . - hello. â he said, still not turning to face her. Silence. y\n was the one to start talking, again. - What time is it? Jimin finally moved starting to search for their phones. - I have no idea, y\n. â he searched under the clothes and then finding it  in the ground, close to their shoes. â found it! Oh fuck! Its almost 10:00am! - oh no.. Donât you had practice today? â Jimin sit down, forcing his mind to remember if he had or not. - I donât think so.. y\n sat down looking at  him. âIm not gonna be the one to break the ice again. Iâm definitively not.â - do you wanna talk about this? â Jimin says looking at her for the first time since last night. - Thereâs nothing to talk about, Jimin. This, - she said point at the both of them â this was a one-time thing. I have to go home. â she started to get up dressing quickly . - okay then. Iâll take you home. â Jimin started to look for his keys. - Thereâs no need. I can call an Uber. - y\n, let me do it. - No, Jimin. You really have no responsibility with me for what happened between us last night.
Jimin couldnât help but feel a lit bit hurt hearing that, but he understood. It was a crazy life . He couldnât just ask her to jump in and be okay with all the mess up things that come from dating an Idol. He just couldnât. - I canât believe you, y\n,.. being best friends was working and it was the safe step but, now... - We canât do this, Jimin. You know we canât. It wasnât supposed to be serious, it wasnât. Jimin turns all to face her, now. They were looking at each other. - Did you want to try... be  more than this? Maybe? - Jimin.. - donât you wanna try? Donât you like me? â His eyes was becoming sadder. - of course I do! Canât you see? - then why? Why donât we give a try? i donât want us to be strangers again.. y\n didnât know what to do. -⊠cause nothing makes me happier and nothing makes me sadder than you, Jimin.
He didnât understand. - you say all this things now, but we both know that maybe Iâm not enough for you. All the girls, perfect girls, that you already met.. Iâm not like them. And I donât want to be. I canât fake that I like something that I donât, I have inexplicable fears and anxieties, I worry about people more than I should, and I almost die worrying about you when you go on tour, dammit, I worry about you always.. IâIâm not like them.. I canât be someone Iâm not. Jimin give her a little smile. - You really canât see yourself huh? Youâve got something they donât.. Youâre real. I miss you when youâre not around. I love how you worry about people and I love even more the way you worry about me. I worry about you too. I worry if you ate, if you slept well, if your emotions are treating you well. I love the way you smile, the way you canât pretend you liked something when you hated. I love how I can see right through you and I love everything about you. I love everything that you hate about yourself y\n. I love how I can just look at you and be happy . Youâre it, youâre my person. y\n was blushing like a crazy person at that moment. She starts laughing not believing what she just heard. -.. Now, can you, please, let me kiss you?

Witch Way to Revenge || Morgan & Miriam
TIMING: Current
PARTIES: @meflemming & @mor-beck-more-problems
SUMMARY: Morgan and Miriam have a girlâs night. At least no one was physically injured?Â
CONTAINS: emo times
Girlâs night in with Miriam looked a lot like Morgan expected: animal hides dangling from their racks, wine-blood cocktails and brain smoothies in rose gold tinted glassware, and moody music from Miriamâs Spotify playlist underscored by the percussion of leatherworking and bone carving as fresh white shavings spread over the work table like confetti. The antler Morgan was working was just for practice, but maybe if the piece didnât come out too wonky she would stash it for herself, a hope towards another etsy store, or at least a contribution to the universe that wasnât so frustratingly fraught. Everywhere Morgan looked was a mess waiting to happen or already in progress, even within. She mistrusted her quiet, fearing another breakdown, she mistrusted her fire, hating the thought of adding to the list of sacrifices and blood Constance had already accumulated. And the people she trusted, who she wanted to cling toâ
Morganâs burr scraped too roughly into the bone, digging an impossibly crooked hole into its side. She set down her burr before she made another mess and chugged her smoothie. âIs it breaking the vibe too much if I ask a serious question?â The look of apology on her face said that she was going to do it whether Miriam thought so or not. âI was wondering if...you ever feel kind of sick about your uh...side hustle. And then do it anyway? Â I feel like if nothing else, being able to see Constance come apart with my own two zombie eyes is going to be satisfying in ways I donât have words for, but right now Iâm...not there. Iâm just curious, I guess.â
Humming along to the music Elle had put on her phone, Miriam was busy removing hair from a skin, not truly thinking, just enjoying the process. Sheâd found the deer the other evening after sheâd gone to the cemeteries. Miriam hadnât truly been hunting for witches. Not hard, at least. But the frustration of the itch not being scratched caused her to lash out. Sheâd dropped it off on the way back to Evelynâs, and sheâd been staying the night there ever since, though frustration kept building and building. This was nice, though. No murder, no ghostly research, no threatening or dead witch bodies (except for Morganâs, but she didnât count). The flavor of bloodied wine eased some of her darker thoughts. Morgan seemed a bit stressed, of course, but Miriam didnât pry. They both had their secrets.
Miriamâs sensitive ears picked up the sound of scraping bone, and she glanced up at Morgan. Raising an eyebrow, she took a sip from her glass. âI donât mind, Morgan.â She paused, thinking it over. The look on Morganâs face was enough for her to know that the question wasnât meant cruelly, though. âSide hustle makes it sound like Iâm a gangster of some sort. Itâs simply my nature.â She wrinkled up her nose a bit before she sighed and put down the fleshing knife sheâd been using. Miriam faced Morgan fully, leaning back against the counter. âThe very first time was hard, but I couldnât stop.â She would not tell Morgan how she cried for Theo. She would not. âAnd then it was all too easy. It was retribution, for all the lies and the hurt that magic causes. Eventually, I thought I was done, for the most part, and I went to ground. When I woke up, it was the same, that righteous anger that I had to do what needed to be done.â Murder, Mim. Just say murder. âIâm certainly glad I didnât kill you, though. And now⊠Now itâs just a necessity, not a desire. I have other things to do with my time, butâŠâ She let the sentence trail off into nothing and cleared her throat. âWhat brings up the curiosity, darling?â
âOn the one hand, gangster, on the other: intrepid and self-motivated,â Morgan explained, sniggering. âIt doesnât pay as well as your day job, itâs more of a passion project. Which, you know, you could probably benefit from having a real one of those.â She was trying to keep her tone light, gentle in her teasing to show how desperate she was to get Miriam to do something, anything else with her existence besides her indiscriminate murder vendetta against witches. But Miriamâs response to her question was...surprisingly earnest. Even as Morgan sensed that she was keeping something back, she knew she was telling as much of the truth as she could manage.
âCouldnât stop?â She asked in a whisper. For the first time she considered if Miriamâs claims about not being in control of herself were true. She could think of nothing more terrifying than losing her will, her self to something that lacked even a face or a name. It seemed a worse fate than what Constance had given her. It couldnât be true. âYou know it wasnât...he wasnât his magic, Miriam,â she said softly. âHe deserved everything he got from you. But heâs not actually everywhere, even if it feels that way. He wasnât hiding in me somewhere.â She looked back to her bone carving before setting everything down. âWhy does it feel necessary? Sorry, that sounds-- Iâm curious about you, because of course I am, but Iâm asking for...me. I struggle so hard to explain to people why I need this, and I donât know if the words exist. I was set up to suffer before I was even born, punished for something I didnât do as early as three, broken, slowly in cycles, over some girlâs hissy fit of bad turns. And at the bottom of it all, I know that I need to do something different, to be different than the person she ground up to death. And I need to call the shots. I need to know down in my soul Iâm free of her, forever. And, yeah, sometimes I get a kick out of imagining what it will be like to give her back as much pain as I can. I had to kill a fucking hunter to get the carding comb to hurt her with, Iâm going to make sure itâs worth it. But does any of this make sense to you at all? Youâre not even going after the person who hurt you anymore and is it...just this ache? Or this pull that you canât have peace or quiet or anything fully until this is done?
The sound Miriam made wasnât particularly ladylike; nor was the eyeroll she gave Morgan. Honestly, she wouldnât be surprised if her mother walked out of the family mausoleum just to scold her for her lack of manners. âArenât we all self-motivated, sweetness?â she asked, reaching to take a sip of her wine only to find that the glass was empty. She frowned before going to the small fridge she kept in her work area to make another glass. âI mean, thatâs quintessential human nature, though human is a bit narrowly focused. We both know that. Anything with conscious thought is self-motivated, I think one could argue.â One part blood bag, two parts cabernet sauvignon. She took a sip, satisfied with the flavor, and looked back at Morgan.
âDespite, well, everything that you know about me, murder wasnât always my go to method of dealing with marital issues, Morgan. Then again, we werenât prone to marital problems before my passing,â Miriam said with a wry smile. She crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back. âI know that. I know what he was. Being a spellcaster wasnât the worst part of him.â Admitting it felt like sin, like a betrayal of the woman who had died wrapped around a tree with the knowledge that the only reason her husband had married her was because he needed to fund his coven. âI know that. But the mere thought of people practicing magic, the fact that they could still do it after everything that he did to me,â she felt fangs lengthen in her mouth, âit is impossible to stop myself.â She looked at Morgan, who she considered a friend, who she would have killed in their first meeting had she not enjoyed the game of cat and mouse, who she would probably kill know if her heart decided to reawaken in her chest and magic once more flow through her veins. âI came back improperly, a vampire who needs more suffering than she needs blood. I live with it, have lived with it for some time. Itâs necessary because I could be starved for blood for decades, and I have been!â She did not remember her time in the mausoleum fondly, though sheâd put herself there quite willingly. âThe thirst for blood would be nothing compared to my need to cause suffering and pain to those that-- those that wronged me.â Magic wasnât met for humans. It simply wasnât. There had to be an understanding there, that they were only hurting themselves and others. She couldnât be the only person scorned out there, desperately hunting for an atonement that didnât seem to come. âI keep thinking that one day Iâll reach the peak, right? That I will have killed one, and itâll be over. I thought Iâd find that when I kill the last of Theoâs family.â She still sees Gillyâs aged but familiar face when she closes her eyes. Miriam downed the wine. âDidnât fucking happen. Obviously.â
Morgan replied with an eye roll and a grimace. âNot all of us. Some of us have âsacred dutiesâ and shiny new enlightened principles that mean moving out and running away to live in an abandoned mansion where nothing bad can get us.â She recounted the thought with a mocking baby voice, bristling with bitter hurt. Maybe if more people were allowed to worry just about their local friends and communities, there would be a lot less strife. No duties, no higher bullshit. âBut, you know, at least you are. I appreciate that about you, Mim.â
She watched Miriamâs posture, the shifts and guilt in her face as she admitted what Theoâs crimes werenât. âYou arenât made wrong, Miriam. You deserve to be here as much as anyone else just the way you are. Youâre just...a little stuck, I think. I mean, witches everywhere donât know what he did to you. And I bet no small amount of them would support your leather jacket poetic justice. You know, if you left out the part where you think they shouldnât exist because of him. Weâre big on balance and using the will and agency the universe gave you. Making your way happen when circumstances say no.â She looked at Miriam sympathetically, hoping she registered how much her drive fell into that very witchy category. âSome people need to be dealt their suffering, for things theyâve actually done, Mim. And you havenât been dead so long that there canât be someone who did actually do something to you or someone you care about to take a hit or two.â She inched closer to the vampire, reaching out for her hand. âHey--â her fingers brushed over Miriamâs. âIt doesnât have to be like this. You deserve more and better than tasting something hollow. Did you ever think that maybe it doesnât feel good like the first one for a reason. And not because youâre cursed or anything awful like that. Because youâre not. Maybe you just need something different. Because it canât stay like that, right? We canât just be stuck starving for something that never comes. Thereâs gotta be something better.â
Blinking, Miriam said, âI wonât lie, you had me in the first half, but I donât think thatâs directed at me, is it?â Clearly, whatever was weighing on Morgan was truly getting to her, turning a woman that Miriam had only seen angry at Miriam or a ghost into someone that was actually quite bitter about things, life, unlife. It rubbed Miriam the wrong way, to see someone so blatantly optimistic using that tone, that nastiness. âYes, well, thatâs me, darling. Self-serving and comfortable enough with myself to admit it. It feels lovely to be appreciated for that.â
Ah, but there was the Morgan that Miriam knew, the optimistic one. And Miriam handled it the only way she knew how. Poorly. âYes, yes, all things, creatures, and people are made with goodness and kindness, even if it is deep, deep down Iâm not a broken monster, just a sad one that needs to get her head out of her ass and stop feeling sorry for herself.â She sighed. âIf Iâm stuck, then thereâs really no way to not be, at this point. Itâs whatâs natural, now, being like this, doing these things. I donât care that they arenât him or that they might understand. Theyâll all hurt someone, in the end, if they havenât already. Can you, in complete and total honestly, tell me that your magic never harmed someone? Your familyâs magic? The magic of any little spellcaster that you know?â She just wanted Morgan to see what she was saying, if only for a moment. âCan you? I donât think you can.â She was careful not to pull away, though she went impossibly still at Morganâs touch. âMaybe if I pretend that everyone Iâm slaughtering is a spellcaster, then itâll get better, right? Play pretend with my own head. Just drinking blood doesnât help. Thatâs where the hollow feeling comes from, darling. Itâs the other makes me feel sated, at least for a time.â Didnât last, though, but surely that was to be expected. Hunger always came back. She just hated that this was the hunger she felt. Miriam pulled away, smiling tightly. âI need another drink. I donât suppose you want another brain smoothie?â
Morganâs face wrinkled with embarrassment. âSorry. Iâve been...having a time with a friend. A no-longer-friend. I donât know. But I didnât mean to drag that in here like it wasâŠâ She sighed. âI donât want to be a person who puts her shit on other people and hurts them for it. Iâm sorry. I...still donât know how to process everything. I donât know how two people can be so similar and yet so painfully different.â Hearing herself, she smirked. âWell, maybe I do but at least you and I donât actually think weâre on the same page when weâre not. But youâre welcome, for appreciating you for who you are.â
She should have expected Miriam to go stiff at her touch. Morgan didnât know if it was because she was afraid of being treated tenderly by someone who actually believed in her, of the softness it might bring out in her, or if in the middle of dying and coming back, touch had become something to fear, but whatever the cause, of course Miriam would run from Morgan trying to reach her long enough to try and stop her. She let go of Miriamâs hand, but came around to her side of the table, sitting close. âI never said everyone was inherently anything. I donât believe everyone is inherently anything. I think we all have potential for a lot of things. Even you. And given how much has happened to me in the lastâalmost a year, now? Even just the last six months since I diedâI donât recognize myself sometimes. Of course we can change.â
Morgan deflated at the insistence that she consider Miriamâs point. And went silent, trying to figure out if there was a way not to screw this up. âI have hurt people before. Me, Morgan. Because Iâm almost forty and a person, Miriam. But it wasnât my alchemy or any other magic. I said and did normal, awful things because I was angry or scared or stupid or all of the above. Sometimes, I gave someone what I thought they deserved, as payback. I melted the tires off the SUV of this rude, cruel customer at the store I worked at. I gaslit a mail thief in my apartment building. But magic is just energy, Mim. It just is. And I also saved my own life and made something to help protect my girlfriend and spare cash so I didnât fall behind in my bills. I made jewelry and charms for my friends so they would know I cared. Magic is everything and nothing. Itâs too complicated to be bad. People just...do bad things with it. Sometimes. Because theyâre people.â Â She reached for Miriamâs hand as she seemed ready to flee, take a breather. âMim! We might not be on the same page, but you canât honestly say that youâre so different than anyone else held together by magic. We never were that different, even when I was alive, even if we werenât on the same page.â She let go, slowly, already wondering if sheâd overstepped. âIâm sorry, if Iâmâ I just feel like you donât want to be this way as much as you say you do. If thereâs something someone can do to help you try something else, maybe Iâd like to.â
âI really donât mind, if you want to talk about it.â Truthfully, if it would get Morgan off her ass, Miriam would talk about trivial friendship dramas. âPeople are kind of the worst, Morgan. They really are. But I can imagine how disheartening that could be. I think that you and I can see each otherâs differences and similarities, now. And, hey,â she smirked, âI havenât outright lied to you about anything since that night in the bar.â She should return the sentiment. Thatâs what people did. They appreciated each other, were sincere with each other. Miriam was not taught sincerity. Charms and good looks rarely needed that. âI appreciate you as well, I hope you know. I wasnât expecting a friend in you. I wasnât expecting friends, in general.â
Miriam sighed as Morgan got closer, but it wasnât awful. She wouldnât push away, wouldnât tense up again. She waved Morgan off, though. âI know. I know. But that always seems to be implied. To be good. To be kind. Iâm more than aware of the belief in balance. I married into a prominent coven that believed in potential and the ever changing path of time. Nothing is wholly good. Nothing is wholly evil. Until, of course, one starts murdering said prominent coven.â Theoâs mother had threatened her with fire before Miriam had finally killed her. âThen they are wholly evil.â She shook the images away, the thoughts, the rush of the kill. A part of her had enjoyed it. Miriam was by far the bitchâs least favorite in-law. She adopted a lighter tone. âDead things donât change. Not truly, not where it counts. I really donât know how many times I have to tell you, darling.â
Clearly, Morgan wasnât understanding what Miriam had to say. âYes, you, Morgan, have hurt people. Did you just use your words, your fist, or can you say, without a shadow of doubt, that youâve never used magic to harm another person?â Â Miriam raised an eyebrow. âI agree, wholeheartedly. Magic is just energy. It has no morality. Itâs the people that are the problem. Humans. We, they, werenât meant to have that sort of power because it ends up hurting someone eventually. It ends up being used poorly, as youâve just pointed out. It can certainly be used for good things. I canât tell you how many of Theoâs family gifts were helpful and beautiful. In the end, though, they still harmed people. They misused what they were given. Magicâs a weapon. One would never give a knife to a toddler, would they? Itâs irresponsible. People are what makes magic bad, not magic itself.â The muscles in her wrists twitched under Morganâs hand, but she didnât move it. âI cannot control the magic within me, and neither can you, Morgan. Itâs not the same. We cannot harness that power for good or bad things.â Miriam stretched out her fingers. âDonât apologize. Itâs useless. I understand what youâre saying, and I wish you could do the same.â She looked away. âIâve tried other options, you know. Iâve tried to be a regular vampire. It simply doesnât seem possible.â
âIâm not asking you to be a regular vampire,â Morgan replied. âI would never do that, itâs not like that, Mim. But I donât believe that you were made, down to your core, to torment witches just for being here. I think thatâs your hurt and your fear talking. And Iâm not even fully convinced that youâve tried feeding on kinds of pain and suffering besides the physical, or suffering that you didnât cause. I mean, unless thereâs something youâre not telling me. I donât know what you mean by options. And even so, I think you donât really want to be this way. I think youâve just told yourself itâs hopeless so many times, you donât know how to believe anything else. I think you wouldnât sound so sad if this was what you really wanted.â
Morgan moved closer to Miriam, straining upwards to stare her in the eyes, searching for a sign of hesitation, of longing, of something that made her more than what she pretended to be. âTell me the truth,â she said quietly. âDo you want there to be something more to living like this? Do you want things to be different? Because it doesnât have to be hopeless, and you donât have to resign yourself to being owned by the way youâve lived your life for so long.â She reached up and grazed Miriamâs cheek with her fingertips, cupping her face gently enough that she barely felt it on her own skin at all. âWe can change, Mim,â Morgan said softly. Sometimes itâs just a little harder for us, but we can make our lives different. And I could help you try, if you ever asked me to.â
âWell, I canât seem to find sustenance out of torturing those that arenât witches, so, really, Morgan, I donât know what else to do.â Granted, Miriam rarely tried to torture others, was sickened at the mere thought of it, and other people didnât feel her with the same sense of injustice and rage that spellcasters did. She gritted her teeth against Morganâs monologuing, refusing to even admit that some of what the zombie was saying was true. But she had caused people emotional pain and suffering, and it had sustained her. Just tormenting with Morgan that first time had been a meal in and of itself, even without breaking the womanâs wrist. But it just wasnât the same if it wasnât spellcasters. It couldnât be. A part of her didnât want it to be. âIâve tried not hurting people,â she said. âIt didnât work. And I tried to stop myself, the first time, and the second, and many times after that. Itâs not possible. Itâs just not possible.â It wasnât. Miriam had a lot of willpower, but not when it came to that.
âWhat I want is to drop this line of conversation,â Miriam said, attempting to school her features into a smirk. She needed to distance herself from this, from these feelings. It was becoming blatantly obvious that arguing with Morgan was about the same with arguing with a wall, or a child. Neither of them would get anything out of it, in the end. Of course she wanted more than this, more than neverending hatred and anger. She was even finding ways around it, ways to enjoy herself with other people. But she did not have to worry about wanting to kill Evelyn or even Morgan anymore. She did not have to worry when she was working or when the sun was in the sky and she could not afford to worry. âI am not hopeless, and I cannot change, and I am in no mood to try, after all this time.â It would not do, to change now when there were still people alive that blamed her for all the death and destruction she caused. Miriam would do well to make sure she earned every ounce of blame thrown her way. She brushed Morganâs fingers away, undesiring and more than a little afraid of the comfort, though she made sure to at least appear unaffected. âAnd I would not ask for your help, Morgan. If itâs all the same to you, Iâd rather not see anymore of the judgement in your eyes than I already have to.â
âMiriam, please--â Morgan didnât have it in her to cling to Miriam, but she rose up all the same. âItâs not like that. Iâm trying to tell you I believe in you. I see you, the version of you thatâs lost and doesnât know what else there is besides what youâve always done. And Iâm trying to tell you that you donât have to be. You can try again, with help and resources, and itâll be better than it was before. Maybe I just think you deserve a better existence than reliving their pain over and over! I mean someone does, right? And after all these years--why the hell not!â Morgan panted for breath out of words. She didnât understand what it would take to get Miriam out of her defeatist pit, and there must be something, but she didnât know what the magic words were. Slowly, she gathered her things from the table. âI care about you, Miriam. You just have to let me. Let someone.â
It was all Miriam could do to not narrow her eyes. She got it. She did. It did not need to be drilled any further into her skull. âAnd I do thank you for believing in me. I do. However, I am not quite sure youâre truly seeing me. Youâre seeing what you want, or something âthatâs lost,â and not whatâs actually in front of you.â She smiled, but it wasnât nearly as sharp as she intended it. She had no real drive to lose her temper in front of the zombie, as much as Morgan was testing it. âYour desire to help me is noble and good, but Iâm not particularly interested in going any further in this conversation, so either we drop it and attempt to enjoy the evening, maybe shift subjects to something besides my dietary needs, or we call it a night, hm?â She was closed off, now, done with this line of topic. She wouldnât be bringing it up to Morgan any longer, either. Not the topic of food, or her past, or that nagging little ache in the back of her head that always seemed to come up when they talked about this. She softened. âI care about you, too, Morgan. Thatâs why I think we should drop this.â Please.
âDonât worry,â Morgan mumbled, shouldering her bag. âIâm already leaving.â She hurried toward the nearest door but stopped short of stepping outside. âAnd itâs not your needs, Mim. You donât need-- Itâs what youâre willing to try. Youâre worth more than this and--â And if Miriam hadnât understood her five minutes ago, she wasnât going to now. And maybe Morgan could explain how it burned to hear reduce witches, herself, down to the word diet like they were just brands of protein powder. How much harder that was to stomach after seeing Chloe in Lydiaâs basement. âDropping. Because youâre too afraid to handle this.â She grimaced, hating the sharpness coming into her own voice. She and Miriam were barely friends, how could they be when she couldnât breathe a word about the Vurals to her? But she lingered in the doorway, aching at what felt like another loss, all the same. âIâll let you know when my witch bitch is dead for real, I guess.â
âReally?â Miriam didnât quite understand why Morgan leaving so abruptly was such a shock, but it was. She didnât know what sheâd expected. Of course they couldnât have a relatively normal evening. Of course that was too much for a zombie and a vampire to contribute to the world. âYouâre just going to-- Fine.â She knew she sounded petulant, childlike. Miriam had never been taught to handle not getting her way, and it showed every time something went poorly for her. This was no different. She bit the inside of her cheek, not even aware of how sharp her teeth were until she tasted her own bitter blood in her mouth. Her eyes were stinging a bit. She didnât know why. âI am not afraid. This has nothing to do with fear. This is about-- about-- This isnât about fear, goddammit.â Perhaps it was good Morgan was leaving, if she was going to cause Miriam to lose control of her words in such a way. âNo matter,â she said sharply. She counted to ten, took a breath. Human things. Grounding things. She let the air in her lungs out as a low sigh. âIâll still help you with your ghost problem, Morgan, and not simply because she was a witch. You just-- You know you only have to ask.â Then, she looked away. âIâll talk to you soon.â
Morganâs eyes spilled over as Miriam spoke. âWell, I donât know what else to do. You are being very clear and after--â Morganâs voice broke. After Jasmine, after Nell, after Lydia, after Remmy (and stars above she had never counted on losing Remmy), Morganâs world felt like it was shrinking back down to its lonely, cursed sphere. âIâm so tired of losing people I care about. Of course I want to help you, make something different for you. And it is fear. Iâve been in self denial before and I know that sometimes the only thing worse than being right about how miserable you are is the possibility that you didnât have to be this whole time.â She scrubbed her eyes with the back of her hand and straightened up. âIf you ever decide taking on that fear is worth it, will you tell me? Ask me?â
âThere is no fear,â Miriam said again, but she was far less certain this time around. Because she was afraid. Not of change. Change, probably, would be the easy part, if she really put effort into it, if she became hellbent on starving that darker part of herself. It would be the consequences that came with that change, the fact that she would have to apologize for everything sheâd done, and that wasâŠ. Apologies for murder were not so readily accepted, and there were some consequences Miriam was not taught to deal with. That is to say that Miriam was not taught to deal with consequences of any sort. âI will reach out to you should I ever decide I want to change, but donât waste your breath,â she muttered. âIâm comfortable not changing.â She turned away from the door and set about cleaning up her workspace instead. The prickling sensation behind her eyes wouldnât go away. She didnât know what to make of it because Miriam Flemming did not cry. Maybe she should just head back to Evelynâs early; she obviously wasnât going to get any work done.
âThereâs always fear. And you can get comfortable with anything if itâs what you think you deserve, or all you think youâre allowed,â Morgan sniffled. âBut itâs just not true. Whatever happens, you can have something more.â She lingered a moment longer, hoping that at any second Miriam might whirl around and say yes, Iâve changed my mind, help me stop, I donât know how but Iâll try anything and stop. But for all her hope, that wasnât something sheâd be seeing tonight. She stepped outside and shut the door silently behind her.

Hats Hide the Magic
Steve Harrington x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 1.1k
Warnings: NoneÂ
Requested by @ addictwithaheavydirtycheetah (im so sorry for how long these are taking me to finish)Â
Iâve been listening to a playlist called Bedroom Pop on Spotify and Iâm having so many soft Steve feels; its a problemÂ
Steveâs favorite âcouple thingâ to do with Y/n was watching movies while she played with his hair. It was honestly an addiction to him. Steve loved the undivided attention and contact she gave him when he let her mess with his hair. âLet me do your hair today. Please?â  Y/n begs, the two of them standing in his bathroom before he had to go to work. âI donât know.â He looked at his damp hair. âPleaseâŠâ He sighs, mocking exasperation. âFine.â She smiled, telling him to go sit on his bed. She drags his products over, Steve humming when she started to run her fingers through it. She mocked his general routine, but managed to give it some waves. It was a little more relaxed than normal. âWhat do you think?â Y/n asked, putting her hands on his shoulders, her cheek pressing against his. âI like it. You think you can do it everyday?â She shook her head. âWeâll see.â Y/n kissed his cheek and hop up, pulling on her life-gaurd shorts over her work swimsuit. âHave fun at work. I think it should still look good under your hat.â She calls, leaving Steve to get dressed in his sailor suit.Â
Steve went to work, checking himself in mirrors a little more than usual. He hated to admit it but even though he liked what you did, he was worried it was going to deflate on him and then he would need the stupid Scoops hat. However, as it got closer to lunch, the amount of looks he got from girls had increased significantly. Y/nhad been the end to Steveâs longest time being single since 7th grade and he had spent the first weeks of summer flirting and failing miserably with girls who came to Scoops. âHey Steve.â Tammy winked, looking over the menu. Steve could feel Robin about to combust behind him (yes, she was hiding). âHey Tammy.â He smiled. âWhereâs Y/n?â She asked, leaning back to look around the ice cream parlor. âAt work. I think she told me at dinner last night that she and Hargrove have the same shift for the next three weeks.â Tammyâs expression was weird, her whipping her head back around to her friends that were standing behind her. âYeah I think she said he changes in the parking lot or something. Right, Robin?â Steve revelled in the expressions both girls gave him; Tammyâs face had lit up, practically throwing money at Steve at the prospect of seeing Billy shirtless (like that wasnât his constant state of being). Robin looked absolutely mortified and kicked him in the shin as Tammy and her pack ran off. âOw! What?! It got rid of her, didnât it?!âÂ
âWerenât supposed to get rid of her, dingus!â
ââCause seducing her while hiding under the bananas was working so well for you?â
âTell Y/n to never do your hair again it makes you too cocky.â Robin went in the back to lick her wounds. Steve left work to pick up the kids and take them to the public pool, which he wouldnât bother with but his girlfriend was the hot lifeguard and Steve didnât want the kids in there after what happened to Barbara Holland.Â
âWhat the hell happened to your hair?â Dustin asked the second he got in the car. âWhat about it?â Steve asked after telling him to buckle his seatbelt. Dustin was giving him a look. âY/n did my hair, okay? I like it and Iâm not taking critiques now so shut up.â
âI was gonna say I like it.â He grumbled. The other kids all knew something was up with Steve, even if they werenât sure what it was. When they got to the pool, Y/n was on her break, Heather taking over the stand. She was talking to Billy about switching shifts next week, wanting to do something special with Steve. Steve pushed the kids towards the locker room, Max offhandedly saying she liked how Y/n had done his hair, El nodding enthusiastically. He pulled on shorts and rushed to meet her, coming up behind her to grab her. He lifted her off her feet, Y/n squealing and laughing. âSteve! Put me down!â She didnât say it like Nancy did. She turned to face him when he put her down, Y/n initiating the kiss. âHi, pretty boy.â She whispered, having turned Billyâs taunt into a pet name for Steve. His cheeks pinked, her cupping his face and stealing another kiss. âWear those denim shorts for him.â Billy suggested, winking at Y/n when she turned to acknowledge him. She rolled her eyes, shooing him away with a little smile. âWhen do you get off?â
âMy shift just ended, conveniently.â She dragged him to a lounge chair she had already staked a claim on, pulling Steve down to sit so she could put sunscreen on him. The kids all came out and dumped their stuff by the chair, Y/n telling Steve she needed to go change out of the lifeguard uniform. When she came back, Steve was nearly asleep already. She climbed on top of him, startling him awake. âWhy so sleepy?â She kissed the tip of his nose, wrapping an arm around his neck. She hooked a leg around one of his, laying on her side in order to fit in the chair. âScoops is cold and I have to stand up all day. Itâs so fucking hot out here.â He whines, kissing her forehead. âI need to reserve you as my personal hairdresser, by the way.â Fingers brush a few rogue strands away from his eyes. âYeah?â
âYeah. Huge hit with the ladies.â She scoffed, rolling her eyes. âIt was! Even Tammy flirted with me at work.â
âThis is convincing me more to not do your hair in the morning, you know?âÂ
âYou have a hot commodity on your hands, Y/l/n.â She laughed, kissing his cheek. âYouâve always been a hot commodity, Steve.â He smiled, looking back over the pool, Will and Dustin looking like they were scheming against Lucas and Max, who were kissing. Then the whistle blew. âSinclaire! Hands off!â Billy bellowed from the lifeguard tower. Y/n giggled, the kids flipping him off, Billy getting off the lifeguard stand. âUh-oh.â
âUh-oh is right.â Suddenly four out of seven kids were hiding under the umbrella with Steve and Y/n to hide from Billy as he went after Max and Lucas. âI love you, dork.â She whispers.
âLove you too, nerd.â Steve taunts back, fingers digging into her ribs, giggles erupting from Y/n. She was definitely going to be his hairdresser from now on.

Some webcomic recs
Webcomics are as underrated as they are varied. I mostly read printed comics now, but thereâs no way Iâd have gotten there had I not found webcomics before - believe me, I tried, but this damn hobby is super inaccessible to a beginner, not to mention expensive. Webcomics are like fanfics in that regard - hell, some of them are fan comics - in that thereâs something for everyone, all within your reach, but in order to find something you like you have to either 1. Get very, VERY lucky, 2. Be prepared to read a lot of bad stuff in order to get to the good stuff, or 3. Hear about them from people you trust.Â
I was a 2 - i would read anything, back in the day - and while iâm not as unconditionally enthusiastic as i was, there are still some gems I wish got the same appreciation as some talents in the industry. Iâll spare you the rest of the article (dm me for comic rants though), letâs get to it!Â
note: all the comics are numbered as â1âł because tumblr messed up the google docs formattingÂ
Comics i still follow as they update because either tumblr starts posting about them right away or theyâre on tapas
Check Please!Â
https://omgcheckplease.tumblr.com/
Iâm probably not the one introducing you to Check Please, as itâs one of the most popular webcomics out there, thank god. The parts of the fandom iâm familiar with are cool and wholesome, just like the work itself. Itâs about a southern gay kid, Eric Bittle, who joins the hockey team in his college. Itâs impossible not to love every single character there, the sports drama elements are great, and the format is like solidarity put into panels. The Samwell Menâs Hockey teamâs motto is âweâve got each otherâs backsâ, and there isnât a single part of the comic that doesnât 100% incorporate that.Â
Heartstopper
https://tapas.io/series/Heartstopper
The 2000s so far have been a rough contest for the title of âsweetest ya romanceâ but guys, we found it, we can stop now. Nick and Charlie are in highschool, Charlie is gay and out (not by will), Nick plays rugby because apparently thatâs what british jocks do. Can i make it any more obvious? It took me a while to fall in love with the artstyle but when i did i fell HARD - the creator is re-drawing some of the older chapters, though, so your experience might be different. The storyâs captivating right away, and you want everyone there to be happy from pretty much page 1. The creator also writes ya prose, and some of her books are about other characters from the same school. I love all of them, but Radio Silence is my personal favorite. She also has two novellas about Nick and Charlie themselves, available as e-books.Â
Charity CaseÂ
https://tapas.io/series/Charity-Case
I rarely start new webcomics anymore, but boy, this one got me FAST. and that was even before I realized itâs a polyam love story, which i love but is surprisingly rare in webcomics - at least the ones i know. Julien, an irresponsible young musician, resorts to sharing an apartment with two roomates who are a couple. I fell for the unique, gorgeous artstyle first, and by the time i realized iâm also super invested in the story and characters, itâs already become one of my favorites. Plus, Julienâs hair looks so soft!Â
The Property of HateÂ
http://thepropertyofhate.com/TPoH/
THIS is what comics should be. Thereâs so much passion here, not just for the story but for the storytelling as well - and the two arenât as separated as you might think. A young girl is recruited by a TV man to be a hero. The world they enter seems nonsensical and arbitrary at first, but as they travel she discovers its logic, stories and secrets. She will also, as her title suggests, need to save it. Thereâs so much i love about this comic that i donât know where to start, so iâll just say this: itâs absolutely inspiring, in every sense of the word. Also, read the creatorâs duck comics, theyâll make you feel things.Â
Webcomics i occasionally remember to catch up on, get blown away all over again by how good they are, vow to check them regularly for updates then forget. And repeatÂ
Wilde Life
https://wildelifecomic.com/
I think this is the first ever webcomic i read that had a plot? I got on the wagon at around chapter 1 or 2 and itâs hard to believe it but it only gets better with time, even though it already starts at 100%. Oscar moves to a new town and immediately makes friends with a ghost and a grumpy teen werewolf. It has both monster-of-the-week type problems and overarching plots, and reading it feels nostalgic and brand new at the same time. The fantasy world has this special feel to it, that makes me miss growing up in the american wilderness even though i, well, didnât. Plus, the creator is cool as hell. I knit her a hat in high school in exchange for a commission.Â
Sfeer Theory
https://sfeertheory.com/
This comic got me through a hard time and iâll forever be grateful for that. Also, itâs really, really good. This is another case of a comic where you fall in love with the art right away and before long you find yourself caring very much about the characters and the story. You might also find yourself growing out your hair to style it like Lucaâs. If youâre me itâll be a lost cause, so, uh, keep that in mind. Luca works as a technician at the prestigious Uitspan university. A mysterious, powerful man is looking to change that. While the comicâs biggest strength is probably the gorgeous, fascinating worldbuilding - and Lucaâs hair - the characters are also ridiculously easy to relate to, even if we donât know anything about them. Even the most meaningless extras are somehow compelling thanks to the dynamic, rich art style. And did i mention the hair? If you like it, you wonât be disappointed by everything else Little Foolery makes.Â
How To Be a Werewolf
http://www.howtobeawerewolf.com/
I almost didnât read this one! My brain has decided i donât like werewolves and i donât know how to reverse that. But then i saw Eliasâ body language and it was extremely fun and friendly, and so was the rest of the comic, and the rest is history. Malaya knows sheâs a werewolf, but seeing as she doesnât know any other werewolves, dealing with that is hard. That is until Elias discovers her and decides to help, along with the rest of his pack. Itâs filled with family and solidarity feelings, some dark mysteries and themes, and the art is beautiful and expressive.Â
MonsterkindÂ
http://monsterkind.enenkay.com/
Another case of read-everything-this-creator-makes-itâs-all-amazing! Wallace, a social worker, moves - or rather, is moved - to District C, which is mostly populated by monsters. His heartâs in the right place, and apparently so is his apartment, because his neighbors are cool as heck and agree, some of them reluctantly, to help him get his bearings. Thereâs a mystery to uncover, some monsters to help and a dashing tea octopus to woo - for Kip to woo, anyway - and itâs all a delight to read. Every single character brings their own lovable-ness to the table, and even with the darker parts, reading this comic kinda feels like being hugged.Â
Comics that no longer update
The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal - finishedÂ
http://tjandamal.com/
Guys. guys! Iâm pretty sure this is my all time favorite comic, web OR printed. I have the printed version, i still read it online occasionally, a lot of the songs mentioned in it are now saved on my spotify, i had it as my phone background for a good couple of years, the whole package. Amal comes out to his family and it ends with him having to drive to his sisterâs graduation in Providence. Thereâs a guy in his kitchen who just so happens to need a lift there, and heâs willing to pay, and Amalâs too hungover to argue. What follows is the best roadtrip story ever. Iâm seriously considering getting my license just to recreate that route. I just really love this story, okay? Oh, and if that wasnât enough, the creatorâs music taste is GOOD.Â
Prague Race - to be continued in textÂ
https://www.praguerace.com/
The fantasy aesthetic to end all fantasy aesthetics. And the characters are good and interesting. And the world is well built and leaves you wanting more. AND thereâs a cat. And it looks so good! Leona is irresponsible and spontaneous and gets her friends in some weird shit that leaves them trapped in a strange world, dealing with several curses, trying to survive and make sense of it all. I could spend a lifetime looking at the art and die happy.Â
Shoot around - finishedÂ
https://www.webtoons.com/en/drama/shoot-around/list?title_no=399&page=1
A girlâs basketball team and its coach, Jeff, deal with a zombie apocalypse. They make the most of the post apocalyptic world. Thereâs drama, friendship, found family, love and hope - itâs basically everything a zombie apocalypse narrative should be. And i love how the creator plays with the colors from chapter to chapter!Â
Rock and Riot - finishedÂ
https://tapas.io/series/Rock-and-RiotÂ
Itâs cute! Itâs fun! Itâs a 1950âs queer ensamble cast high school drama! Itâs what Grease wouldâve been like in a better timeline, except we still got it in this timeline. The artstyle fits perfectly with the story and characters, but if you want to see whatâs the creator capable of now, read their newest comic, Project Nought. Itâs a cool sci fi story and just like in Rock and Riot, itâs super easy to connect to every character there.Â
Alright thereâs a lot more but i somehow wrote 4 google docs pages of webcomic recs in one sitting (this is what iâm able to focus on? Really, brain?) and i think thatâs enough for now. Like i said, please dm me if you want to talk about anything here, rec some of your own, listen to my rants or tell me iâm a nerd. Or all of the above. I might make a similar post with print comic, but right now i have some dogs to pet. Keep being cool!Â

In a world where soulmates exist, love is still a gamble.
 --
Bus rides home were usually filled with white noise and thoughts about work. But there was something about the steady pitter-patter of the rain and the hazy blur of life around you that lead you to plug in your earphones and listen to music.
It was tormenting. The catchiest beats were also the saddest ones, making your heart swell up at every relatable lyric. It was as if Spotify was playing with the strings of your heart, plucking them like an instrument every time a song about heartbreak came into your queue.
You were stuck in a state of paradox. The more you tried to forget, the more you tried to erase him who was in your heart, the more you remembered. You hated him because you knew that you couldnât truly bring yourself to hate him.
Timing never seemed to be right with the two of you. If only youâd discovered that he was your destiny a few years later, maybe everything would have worked out, but since you found out a little bit too early, the problem then became you being too late to tell him.
A full year had already passed, and it felt like time was stretched. Graduation seemed so long ago after the ball started rolling on your career life. Once you moved to Busan and getting a great albeit stressful job, so many things just seemed to have happened. You convinced yourself of the fact that this was life now, and if this was all you were going to get, you were going to make it as spectacular as possible. Moving on from the mess that was Lee Felix was dealt and done with, however, itâd be a lie if you said you didnât think about him every once in a while.
Twelve months ago, your arm was always covered in ink. The week you stopped talking to Felix, thatâs when they started to appear. A thousand little messages written on your arm every single morning was what you had to wake up to. Youâd seen your fair share of âIâm sorryâs and âI miss youâs, but you werenât taking any of it. You knew that if you dared to reply once, even just once, you knew youâd just get hurt all over againâit was not something you were willing to risk, even if those annoying writings on your arm caused you to buy more long-sleeved shirts.
Gradually, their appearances lessened until the messages stopped altogether. Something about the absence of the all-too-familiar handwriting finally settled the fact that he was all but a memory that you were to leave in the past.
Occasionally, there were times that the memory of him would be jogged once again, like on this particular bus ride home. Truly, the blame was to be put on the meaningful lyrics and solemn melodies.
Chhhh. This was the part where you got off the bus and shook whatever bad vibes you were feeling out of your mind. This was not the time to feel sad. Not today, not today.
âOh, youâre home already. How was work?â your grandma greeted from the kitchen, the sound of sizzling oil faintly echoing through the house.
âShall I tell you over dinner?â You pursed your lips into a smile. âOr do you want to be spoiled? Just a hint, today was fantastic.â
âWell, if that doesnât tickle my fancy. If youâre gonna start it off like that, sweetie, you might as well just tell me now,â she answered.
You entered the kitchen with a dramatic stride. You stopped for a second to pose, then you took a loud, deep breath. âYour grandkid made it, Nana. I, [L/N] [F/N], have been promoted to the Assistant Brand Manager of the department. Boss said I get a bonus on every third Friday of the month. Isnât that something?â
âMy, my. Wonât you treat your old woman out for dinner one of these days, since youâre now swimming in money? Iâd love a steak, dear,â she smiled. âIâm only joking. I am so, so proud of you, darling! We need to celebrate! Come give me a hug!â
You wrapped your arms tightly around your grandmother. âAgh, Iâm beyond elated! Shall we go somewhere special?â
âWould you care for some wine, perhaps? Iâm cooking beef, so I think it would taste great. Set out the table outside, letâs enjoy the evening breeze. Letâs talk more about your promotion later. Whoâs going to take your previous spot on the team?â
âI donât know,â you admitted. âBoss said there were some very promising newcomers, and I can only hope theyâll be a good addition and not a downfall to our team. Did you know that our department is one of the most productive ones? Ever since the PR department waged war on us, our productivity rate has doubled in number.â
âWhy would you want to wage war on other departments? Mustnât you work together for the better of the company?â
âYes!â you replied. âItâs mostly to see who can boost the companyâs sales better. We usually compete when we do our weekly reports to the boss. I think Boss secretly knows about the Marketing-PR war because he hasnât said a word about any of our shenanigans, even if we blatantly express our friendly rivalry. Thereâs a small scoreboard in the conference room to tally which department did better that week, and itâs updated by the secretary. Boss didnât order it to be put there, but he hasnât said anything about it either.â
âIt sounds wonderful. Thatâs quite a great way to promote efficiency in the company,â your grandmother commented, plating the dishes she had prepared for dinner.
âI know! Rumor has it that Boss is planning a company outing where all the departments will go on a head-to-head competition. I donât know the details, but my co-worker said that she heard it from the janitor who heard it from the secretary,â you went on, âanyway, Iâll save more of the talk for later. Where do you keep the candles? Iâll put some outside as I set the tables.â
âIn the left-most wooden drawerâno, not that one. Yes, that one. Glad to hear that work is good for you, honey. Makes me very glad.â
--
How could you stop a smile from making its way to your face? When you stepped into work the next day, you wore a grin like an expensive article of clothing.
âSomebodyâs cheerful today,â your co-worker, Yugyeom mentioned, looking up from his desk. âwhatâs with the happy demeanor, [Y/N]?â
âCanât I revel in the fact that Iâve finally been promoted?â you answered, taking a seat at your desk.
âCome on. There must be something else thatâs up. Did you get a boyfriend? Meet a soulmate? Win the lotto? Your smileâs so bright, I think Iâm going to go blind.â He rolled his eyes.
âNo! Gross, I donât have time for things like that,â you huffed. Leaning in, you whispered, âListen. Thereâs a newcomer thatâs going to be added to our team. Apparently, heâs from the Daejeon branch of the company, and heâs being transferred here to the Busan office because apparently, he did very well. Do you realize what this means for us? If we get another good employee, weâll have one more person to help tackle PR on the scoreboard.â
âDamn, girl! Talk about competitive!â
âYou know youâre excited, too.â
âOkay, fine. I am. Letâs teach this newcomer to help us in the quest to out-produce PR.â
âMorning, guys,â a familiar voice greeted. You and Yugyeom stood up to bow to your superior.
âMorning, Chan,â you greeted back.
âWoah, no âSirâ for you, huh, [Y/N]?â Yugyeom snickered.
You hit him playfully. âIâve known Chan since high-school. Heâs the one who told me not to call him âSirâ. Anyway, is it true that the newcomerâs a good one? Gosh, I canât wait. This is like fresh meat for us, you know? Do you know his name?â
âHow do you know heâs a guy?â Yugyeom asked, raising a brow.
âHeard it from the janitor. Swear the janitor knows everything. Need info? I can get it for you. The janitor makes a pretty good friend,â you explained. âAnyway, like I asked, Chan. Do you have info on him?â
âActually, [Y/N], I donât. The Chief of Staff has yet to introduce me to him, which is kind of surprising. But to be fair, Iâve been out on business trips lately, so Iâm not all too shocked,â Chan explained. âI hope this person is what make him out to be. Oh, speak of the devil.â
âHello, all. Good morning. As you know, Iâm Mr. Park, Chief of Staff, and Iâm here to bring to you the latest addition to your team. As some of you may have heard, he is from our Daejeon branch and is a very capable man. I hope you will all take care of him.â
Chan took one glance at you to make sure you were doing alright, but all he saw was your jaw suspended in the open air, eyes wide.
You felt everything and nothing all at once.
âEveryone, this is Lee Felix, and he will be in charge of product marketing.â
--
You slammed the door to the office pantry behind you, Chan following inside. As you finished downing an entire cup of coffee, you sputtered, âHow could this have happened? Chan! Youâre like, the only person who knows what happened between Felix and I during high-school and college!â
âI swear, I didnât know!â Chan defended, handing you a glass of water to calm you down. âIâm just as shocked as you are, alright? Drink this.â
âIs the world seriously against me?â you grumbled, burying your face in your hands. âJust as things have been looking up, he walks back into my life just like that! Here! In Busan! Where I purposely went so that I could get away from him!â
âCalm down, [Y/N]. Letâs sort this out. But you have to promise me that you wonât let your personal problems get in the way of professionality. I know youâre in shock, but letâs try not to let this get the best of you. Remember, PRâs been on the top of the leaderboard for two weeks straight, and we really need to step up our game,â the older boy spoke, rubbing your shoulder reassuringly. âWeâll try to fix this, yeah?â
âDear goodness, I sure hope so,â you muttered, setting down the second empty paper cup as you looked at the office through the pantry blinds.
âI knew Felix had a job in marketing, but I didnât know it was for our company, nevertheless did I expect him to end up here with us. I thought he got hired back in Seoul,â Chan commented, also watching the newcomer through the blinds.
âRight?â you sighed. âWhat on this good, green earth am I going to do know? Iâm going to have to engage in conversation, you know?â
âWell, I suppose you canât hide from him forever. After all, he⊠is yourââ
âGod, Chan. Donât say it, please. Please donât remind me,â you begged, shoulders going down in a slump.
Just like that, your joyful morning mood was dampened like the imminent grey clouds on a sunny June day, and now you were left with a situation you couldnât run from.
--
A couple of days passed and you successfully avoided having to make any contact with Felix.
Surprisingly, things werenât as bad as you had expected. You only had to do that obligatory bow when you greeted each other in the hallways, but that was it. You could not have it any other way.
âSo⊠howâs stuff? You doing okay?â Chan asked one lunchbreak, grabbing his chopsticks from the lunch tray.
You gulped the rice in your mouth. âCould not be better. Can you believe it? One week went by without anything more than a couple of seconds of eye-contact and a bow.â
Yugyeom, who was sitting beside you, squinted his eyes. âWait. Who are we talking about?â
âUh,â you began, shooting a glance at Chan. âN-No one important, really. Just this person I met.â
âWhat, blind date outside of work?â he asked.
âNo, I donât have time for dates.â
Your co-worker gave you a goofy smile. âAw, sucks for me, I just lost my shot.â
âGross, Mr. Kim!â you laughed.
âIâm joking, Iâm joking. Anyway, whatâs your soulmate link?â
Great. The taboo question. It was cool, it was cool, you were chill, you were chill. âOh, uh⊠why? Whatâs yours? Have you met your soulmate?â
âIâm a late bloomer, I guess. Lots of my friends have met their soulmates already, but my link says Iâm still meeting my soulmate in⊠a couple of months. Iâd show you the tattoo, but no one can see it anyway,â Yugyeom shared, taking a bite of his lunch. âHow about you? I asked you first.â
âItâs a drawing link. Whateverâs drawn on my skin shows up on my soulmateâs or vice versa,â you said quietly, sipping your water. âBut Iâm not too hung up on the soulmate idea. Did you know that Chanâs real lucky? He scored a jackpot. Have you seen his girlfriend? Sheâs super nice. She and Chan are like the older siblings I never had.â
âHey, but it was hard. You know, I had such a hard time with visual projects back in school before I met her. I had to keep asking my friends to tell me if my presentations looked good because really, I couldnât tell. If I worked on them alone, theyâd probably have the color scheme of ugly sweaters. So glad I can see color now, or else I probably would have a difficult time here in the company,â Chan chuckled at the thought. âBy the way, sheâs asking if you wanna come over some time for dinner. She misses hanging out with you, you know.â
âOh for sure. How about this Saturday evening? I need to tell her about the recent news. Unnieâs gonna freak,â you asked Chan while you noted the schedule down on your phone.
âHey, I thought you were gonna help me that evening with the project Boss assigned us?â Yugyeom piped up. âDonât tell me youâre gonna cancel!â
âRelax, Mr. Kim. Letâs do that over lunch. No need to worry,â you told him.
Just then, you felt a gentle tap on your shoulder and you turned around hastily, wiping your mouth.
Standing there with a hand at the back of his head was He-Who-Shanât-Be-Named.
âUh⊠Ms. [L/N]?â
âOoh, never thought Iâd hear my last name roll off his tongue. Whatever, thatâs to be expected,â you thought.
âSorry to bother you during lunch, but I need you to look over some paperwork that you submitted. Some of it wasnât completed,â the freckled boy announced, handing you a folder.
You raised a brow. âHave I not? I could have sworn that I checked over these twice. I never submit incomplete paperwork.â
âA-Ah, is that so? But look here, thereâs a blank space.â
You scanned the papers in your hands thoroughly. Glancing beside you, you inquired, âMr. Kim, I thought this section of the paperwork was your job?â
Yugyeom took the folder from you. âWhatâs this? I didnât send you the complete copy?â
âNo?â
âSorry, Mr. Lee. This was a fault on my part. Itâs true, Ms. [L/N] never submits incomplete paperwork. Iâll have these files ready by 13:30, after lunch. Apologies for the inconvenience,â Yugyeom apologized, bowing.
Felix sported a polite smile. âOh, itâs alright. Iâm so sorry for the confusion, Miss [L/N]. Thank you for your hard work.â
âUm, youâre welcome.â
Caw. Caw. Caw.
âWell, Iâll be on my way. Enjoy the rest of your lunch, Ms. [L/N], Mr. Kim, Sir Bang,â Felix bowed, dragging his legs towards the opposite direction.
When he was out of sight, you leaned in to whisper, âIf that wasnât the most awkward two minutes of my entire company experience! I was doing so well up until this moment. I told you itâs best if I donât talk to him!â
âWhatâs up with you and Mr. Newbie? You two know each other?â Yugyeom pressed, letting his chin rest on his hand. âOh my. Donât tell meâheâs the guy you went on a blind date with!â
âLower your volume!â you scolded. âAnd ew, no! I already told you, I donât have time for blind dates.â
âSo give me a good reason as to why youâre apparently avoiding him!â
Chan came to the rescue. âOh, we all went to the same high-school. [Y/N] and FeliâMr. Lee used to go to the same college. Sheâs just had some weird encounters with him, is all.â
You nodded as if to agree with your superior. âYup. Although donât get me wrong, I donât want to let it affect my work. Professionalism is professionalism.â
âOh, is that right? Mm, didnât know that,â Yugyeom answered, âanyway, letâs head back to our department. Lunch break is ending and I gotta fix this paperwork.â
--
The conference room door closed slowly behind as you and Chan made your way out from the most recent meeting. People from PR gave you both a smirk before heading towards their department. You clutched your fists in frustration and bore holes into their backs while stomping to the opposite direction.
âJust because theyâve gotten a lead on the scoreboard makes them think they can act like that, huh,â you hissed, rolling your eyes. âI swear, Iâm working overtime this week.â
Chan placed a hand on your shoulder and stopped you. âCalm down, itâs gonna be alright, okay? Besides, we should be happy that theyâre doing good for the company. Donât get me wrong, I hate their department with my guts, but itâs nice to see Boss smiling at the good reports. But hereâs the catch. Next week, weâre having the company outing. Iâve yet to announce it to the department, so keep your mouth quiet. I received the e-mail this morning, and itâs going to be held in Jeju island. Thereâs going to be lots of activities. Boss thinks itâs a good investment to have a fun company outing to, quote unquote, âpromote bonding in the workplaceâ.â
You gasped and pointed at Chan. âYou thinking what Iâm thinking?â
âWe get to totally mow down PR in competition?â
âThe prize is yet to be announced, and yes. Weâre going to kill it. Of course, that means everyone in the department has to double-time this week so that we can enjoy the outing without thinking of work. Howâs the project I assigned you doing?â Chan questioned.
From behind you, a voice spoke. âUh, sorry to intrude, but I couldnât help but overhear you two talking about the company outing. According to Secretary Bambam, each department is going to stay in separate guest houses. Do you need some help, Ms. [L/N]?â Yugyeom brought up, joining in on the conversation.
âHelp? For what?â you asked, raising a brow.
Yugyeom put a hand to his mouth. âDonât you have some kind of uncomfortable business with Mr. Lee, the newbie? I donât know, I thought youâd be bothered.â
âMr. Kim!â Chan boomed. âDonât let [Y/N]âs personal matters affect how you interact with the people on our team. The least we need is division amongst ourselves. Where even did you get the information on the outing? Youâre not supposed to know yet.â
âWhy hide it? As I was making coffee in the staff room, Secretary Bambam offhandedly mentioned it to me,â Yugyeom answered, holding his clipboard.
âIâm sure itâs not going to be so bad,â you reassured the two boys, heading over to your desk. âThank you for the offer, Mr. Kim.â
--
âThis is so bad,â you grumbled, throwing different articles of clothing on your bed. There were all sorts of knick-knacks flying around your tiny room, scattered any place a knick-knack could be.
Just then, the door to your room opened and your grandma stepped in, raising her hands in surprise. âWoah, woah, woah! Whatâs going on in here? Your room looks like a jungle of clothes! I said pack for your trip, not unleash the beast, sweetie.â
You let out an exasperated groan as you shut the door of your closet. âSorry, grandma. Iâm just a little stressed thinking about the trip.â
âCome sit,â the older woman insisted, patting the empty spot on your bed beside her. âTell me whatâs wrong. To think this trip is supposed to be a celebration for the numerous victories your company has been making these past few months.â
âItâs not the company, grandma,â you admitted, taking a seat beside her. âItâsâŠitâs just that I have to deal with being stuck in a house with someone I wish I didnât need to be with.â
âHmm? Thatâs strange, I always thought you to be one of the more amiable people at work. Are you not friends with everybody?â
You sucked in your breath and prepared for what was about to come. âThereâs this one guy. His name is Lee Felix⊠and⊠heâs⊠my soulmate.â
âOh my.â
Right then and there, you decided that you could no longer keep up the bubbling vexations you buried deep in your chest. From the moment you met him until the very moment those years of friendship ended, you told her everything, not sparing a single important detail. By the time you finished up your story, your face was puffy and your eyes were red. The nighttime breeze howled quietly in the background, enveloping you in a chill.
âA-And recently, I thought I was doing okay, but he decided to take another stride back into my life. I mean, itâs all good at work, but itâs been so hard to focus lately and I donât know why. I know Iâm over him, and Iâve resigned to not thinking about soulmates or finding love or whatever. But every time I see that damned face of his, things come flooding into my mind,â you sniffled, blowing your nose. Your grandma rubbed soothing circles on your back, listening to every word that you spoke. âIt doesnât help that PR is doing better than Marketing lately, and I canât help but think that maybe Iâm slacking off a bit or something.â
âOh, sweetheart. Here, drink some water,â your grandma began, âif youâll let me, may I share what I think about your situation?â
âGo ahead, grandma. Iâm so sorry for crying.â
âSweetie, no, donât do that. Itâs okay to cry. But you know, I think the reason why youâve become so competitive at work, the reason youâve been under a lot of stress lately, the reason why you hold anger in your heart towards Felix despite saying that youâve moved on from him, even the reason why you always apologize for cryingâall those reasons are the same. From what Iâve been hearing, I think you need to re-examine whatâs really in there,â she explained, pointing at your left chest where your heart was. âEver since Felix, youâve blamed yourself for everything. Because you knew you got hurt, you sorta⊠how should I say this⊠resigned yourself into thinking âIâm never going to get hurt like that againâ. You made that mistake, and youâve been beating yourself over it for these past few years.â
âI-I have?â
âHoney, I have to tell you. Itâs okay to make mistakes. Itâs okay,â your grandma said, pulling you into a hug. âAnd honestly, I think the person who needs forgiveness most now isnât Felix, but you. Forgive yourself, [Y/N]. Itâs alright that you stumbled along the way.â
Your face crumpled. It was true. You felt so⊠so raw in front of your grandmother who saw right through you, who saw right through your heart. Everything somewhat fell into place, and you realized the reason you were hurting. And it felt good, to have finally admitted what you were hiding deep down for so long.
âSo⊠what do I do now, grandma?â you asked, voice coming out as a choke. âWhat now?â
âItâs your choice if you want to, at the very least, tolerate him or let him go. Whatever you choose, know that Iâm proud of you for taking those steps. Now go pack, itâs getting late and youâre supposed to meet up with the team early tomorrow. Please bring a jacket.â
âI will,â you replied, watching your grandmother get up and head out of your room. âHey grandma?â
âYes, sweetheart?â
âThank you.â
--
The sun was barely out, but you and your team were already outside the company building waiting for the van. The sounds of yawning and drowsy morning chatter filled the atmosphere.
Just before you left the house, your grandma left you some rice cakes on the table. A note saying âEat well and enjoy <3â came with it, helping you start your day off with a smile. As your team lined up to board the ferry, you bit into a rice cake, letting your teeth sink into the soft delicacy. Wow. It was beyond scrumptious.
The vicinity was getting a little bit warm as the sun began its ascent into the higher areas of the sky, causing you to remove the jacket you were wearing, As you tied the piece of clothing to your waist, you couldnât help but notice a scribble on your left arm, just below your wrist.
âWould you ever consider giving me one of your rice cakes? Iâm so sorry, I saw you eating some and I havenât had breakfast. Itâs alright if you decide not to. Iâll wash off the ink with hand sanitizer.â
You jerked your head up, scanning the crowd for a certain someone. When your eyes landed on an all-too-familiar freckled boy, he reciprocated your stare with a sheepish smile.
You did a double-take. Should you forfeit your streak of barely having to interact with him or offer a rice cake to your hungry co-worker who would probably really need to eat something before leaving to engage in several tiring activities? Damn it, you knew he loved rice cakes.
Hesitantly, you shuffled over to Felix, who waved to you and bowed as you approached him. âUh, good morning, FeâMr. Lee.â
âHi, Miss [L/N]. Get my note?â the boy asked, pointing to your arm. Damn, you knew about his booming voice, but youâd forgotten just how deep his pitch was.
âThe chicken scratch handwriting was quite hard to miss.â
âIâm sorry for using this particular means of communication. I just⊠Iâm finding it a little difficult to talk to you, no offense.â
âNone taken,â you answered, handing him a rice cake. âYouâll just really do anything for a rice cake, huh?â
In seconds, the poor rice cake was scarfed down. Felix wiped his mouth with his jacket sleeve. âIâm surprised you remember.â
âLike Iâll ever forget the reason half my lunch was always missing back in high-school,â you scoffed. âHere, you can have one more. I have more food in my bag anyway. Whyâd you skip breakfast?â
âDamn it, [Y/N]!â you thought to yourself. âWhat the hell is up with you? I thought we agreed to just hand him a rice cake and leave?!â
âI live a bit far from here. I couldnât miss the bus,â he answered, adjusting the neck pillow sitting comfortably on his shoulders. It was sort of endearing, how the neck pillow was themed to be a cute teddy bear design. Felix yawned. âAnd I didnât sleep too well last night. Had to do some last-minute paperwork because somebody turned in their files late. Thank you so much, by the way. Your kindness will not be forgotten.â
âYouâre welcome. And oh, I can imagine how awful that is. Late paperwork, I mean. I feel bad for nagging our co-workers to send me files, but in the end, it gets the job done, you know,â you replied, straightening your back. âAnyway, if that will be all, Iâm just gonnaââ
âWait, donât go!â Felix sputtered, grabbing a hold of your arm. He quickly released it, ears turning red. âA-Ah, sorry. I just wanted to ask you something about PR.â
âPR? Huh. Go shoot,â you mused, and you could still feel the burning spot where Felixâs hand collided with your arm.
âWhatâs up with this thing I hear about a Marketing-PR war?â
As you opened your mouth to speak, Chan interrupted you with a tap. âHey, [Y/N], I need to borrow a pen.â
You fished for your trusty gel pen from your backpack and handed it to Chan, who began to look around and tick off boxes on his clipboard. Taking a peek at the clipboard, you saw that he was just doing a headcount.
âThatâs our leader-nim, huh?â you teased, playfully giving Chan a nudge. He rolled his eyes.
âIâll give your pen back later, I need it for a while. Go line up over there already, the van is leaving in ten minutes,â Chan answered, walking away.
Felix began to make his way to the spot that Chan had instructed you both to go to, and you followed right behind. As soon as he set his luggage down on the floor again, he turned to you. âSo⊠Marketing-PR war?â
âOh yeah,â you nodded, remembering. âItâs kind of a long story, but I guess itâs important to know the origins of the great Marketing-PR battle. I can tell you about it on the way, but only if youâre truly ready to hear the origins.â
âI mean sure. Weâre spending a lot of time in the van anyway, so we have plenty of time to kill.â Felix suggested. âIâm so glad Boss booked the high-speed car ferry. A trip that would usually take five hours is cut down to two.â
âGood, good, sure. I only have so much downloaded drama on my phone to kill time. So anyway, since we have a lot to cover, I better start. It begins when Sir Park Jinyoungânot the CEO, the head of PRâgets one of Marketingâs most competent workers, Choi Youngjae.â
--
âThank everything weâre here,â Yugyeom breathed, grabbing his duffle bag from the trunk. âI thought weâd never make it.â
âOn the bright side, Mr. Lee finally knows the deep, dark past of Marketing and PR,â Chan mentioned, helping Yugyeom get his bags.
âYeah, um, after we got interrupted like, ten times.â You rolled your eyes. âI could have told the whole story in one hour, but you kept cutting in and getting side-tracked. Did Mr. Lee have to know about the Ramen Incident?â
âOkay, fine, whatever. Letâs go settle in the guest house. Boss wants us to meet in the conference hall at 1:00 sharp. Heâs going to brief everyone on the activities,â Chan retorted.
âBoss is here?â Felix questioned, tilting his head to the side.
âYeah, heâs here to oversee the activities. Usually, heâd send the secretary, but since two entire departments are here, he came,â Yugyeom answered.
The four of you wheeled in your luggage into the cozy-looking cabin, which turned out to be more modern and restful that youâd expected. The inside was simple and minimalistic but sported a few home-esque touches. There were four bedrooms to be split between the team, but Chan had already assigned them. The girls would have the rooms upstairs while the guys would stay in the two downstairs. You were more than thankful to have a sensible roommateâher name was Jihyo and she was one of the more responsible ones on the marketing team.
âIâm relieved that we got here in one piece,â Jihyo commented, setting down her bags in the closet. âIâm surprised that Mr. Kim didnât blow up the van.â
You chuckled. âSometimes, I wonder how heâs even considered a grown man.â
âRight? Also, would you like some mosquito spray? I hear that it gets very bugsy outside,â she offered, holding up a bottle.
âHow could I have scored such an awesome roomie? Thank you so much,â you grinned, spraying the product on your skin.
As soon as you both finished settling down, you made your way downstairs to meet the others. Once everyone was there, the Marketing team headed outside towards the conference hall, where your boss was waiting.
âOh, nice. We made it first,â Chan mentioned, taking a seat on one of the plastic chairs.
You plopped down beside him. âPlus points to Marketing for being punctual.â
In a few seconds, a group of people started to pile into the venue one by one, and you recognized them as the terrible faces of PR. The engine of competitiveness was revving up as the minutes passed.
âWelcome to the long-awaited JYP company outing,â the one and only CEO boomed into the mic, âitâs nice to see that many of you were able to come.â
An applaud echoed throughout the hall.
âAnyhow, Iâd not like to keep you here any longer. Iâm sure that you are all famished by the travel and have not gotten the chance to eat a proper lunch yet. Worry not and let that be one of the driving forces for you all to give your best at the activities. The schedule is as follows: at 1:30 PM, the Relay Race will start. It will take around one to two hours, so I expect it to be over at around 3:00 PM. I will now announce the mechanics of the Race. Secretary Bambam, please flash the slides,â your Boss announced.
âAlright. You are now here,â he stated, pointing a laser at a spot on the screen. âEach team will go through a series of obstacles throughout the area. All these obstacles have been tailored to test your skills as employees, of course, as to not waste such a valuable opportunity to incorporate training and recreation. Some of these include creating a campaign for a product on the fly and trying to persuade me, who will act like a customer, to buy the said product. Each time you beat one obstacle better than the other team, you gain one point. Whoever gains the most points by the end of the Race gets quite the grand prize. At JYP, we donât plan shabby company outings. At JYP, we allow our employees to have a chance at a fabulous prize, and this year, the winning department not only gets a delicious barbeque sponsored by our clients but also a bonus for next monthâs paycheck.â
The entire hall erupted in cheer, everyone clearly enthused at the sound of the word âbonusâ, which was just like an angelic choir.
âRight now, you all have a couple of minutes to plan out your strategies. Here are the list of âobstaclesâ you will be facing, and I suggest you take time to assign your best people to the activities that they are most likely to do well at. At 1:30 sharp, Secretary Bambam will ring a bell and everyone should be off. Time starts now! Enjoy, everyone. See you at the finish line.â
You took one look at the screen in front and Chan was already motioning for your department to come and huddle.
âAlright, so for activity one, we need our most persuasive members. Ms. Park, Mr. Yang, I think youâd be most suited for that. Mr. Kim, Iâm assigning you to face off in that dance battle,â Chan instructed.
âAre you kidding me?â Yugyeom shrieked. âActually, you know what, sure. Iâd rather do that than try to come up with a marketing scheme for Boss. Did you know Iâve won several awards for dancing in college? If I wasnât in this company, Iâd probably rocking the stagââ
âNot now! Anyway, Ms. Im, Iâll trust you to activity three. We all need to work together for activity four, then for the final activityâoh.â
Chan glanced at you, then glanced at Felix. You caught sight of that began to shake your head vigorously.
âChan, whatever youâre thinking, NO.â
Your superior walked over to you and whispered, â[Y/N], we both know you and Felix can annihilate anyone in a three-legged race.â
âThat was in high-school!â you defended, rubbing your palms together. âThereâs no wayâwhy is that activity even on the list?! Everyone knows the three-legged race is just so that people can poke fun at the contestants.â
âThink about PR winning that sweet, sweet bonus that weâre supposed to snag,â Chan tempted, etching a horrible image in your mind.
You did a double-take. âFine, fine! But only because I hate PRâs guts more than I can humanely bear. Damn it.â
--
The score was currently tied, and it was down to the last obstacle: the dreaded three-legged race. âOf course this was how it was going to pan out,â you thought to yourself, âbecause the universe hates me and loves to play with my life.â
While Yugyeom was busy bragging about his epic win at the dance show-off, you were bent down, tying a ribbon around your leg and Felixâs.
âHey,â Felix began, clearing his throat. âSorry you had to end up with me. I can tell youâre pretty bummed out.â
You whipped your head to him and your cheeks started to flush. âU-Uh, that isnât it. Itâs fine, really. Letâs just totally kill PR, alright?â
âYou still got that three-legged race spirit in you?â he asked, stretching his arms. âOr has it withered away over the years?â
âI will never, ever give up my secret talent for three-legged races.â
âWeâll see about that. Wanna test it out? Letâs walk from here to there. No stumbling.â
You scoffed and nodded. In a few seconds, Felix found a way to snake his arms around your waist and a glare was quickly sent in his direction.
âWhat? Donât tell me youâve forgotten that this is the only way we can advance faster. Tried and tested, remember?â Felix piped up, adjusting his footing. âItâs how we beat that loser from Class B in high-school.â
âAlright already, letâs get this over with. Test from here to the water bottle?â
âYup. One, two, three, go.â
Just like he said, the extra support from his grasp allowed for you both to move swiftly. It wasnât long until you were able to reach the water bottle finish-line.
âSee, told you.â
âOkay, contestants! Please make your way to the starting line now for the final battle, the tiebreaker!â Secretary Bambam announced over a microphone.
âHow are you guys doing? You alright?â Chanâs voice came from behind you, causing you both to turn your heads in unison.
âStill got it, Sir Bang. The three-legged race has always been something me and Ms. [L/N] will always conquer with flying colors. Watch us win the department a bonus and a barbeque,â Felix grinned, giving Chan a thumbs-up.
âCanât wait to see PRâs crushed faces. This is gonna be a breeze.â You saluted.
âActually,â Chan started, leaning into a whisper. âYou might wanna look over there. This is actually going to be quite close.â
Turning your head to the other side, you caught a glimpse of two familiar men. A gasp escaped your mouth.
âWang and Tuan?!â you screamed, making Chan shoot you a look that said âshut-upâ.
âWhatâs wrong with Wang and Tuan?â Felix questioned, head still turned in their direction.
You rubbed your temples in frustration. âUm, yes, you heard me. It just had to be the damned Wang and Tuan! Theyâre notorious for being one of the companyâs most athletic individuals. We might as well surrender now because Mr. Tuan used to be in the track team back in the day and Mr. Wang once tried to match the speed of a moving car.â
âHey, I used to be in Taekwondo! I have legs, Ms. [L/N]. Legs for days,â Felix replied.
âItâs indeed going to be a tough one, but we donât know how well Mr. Wang and Mr. Tuan can run as a duo. For all we know, theyâre amazing solo runners but terrible once their legs are tied together,â Chan encouraged.
âNope.â You pointed at the two men who were jogging together in place. âLook at that coordination.â
âOkay, I hate to do this, but I know spite is the greatest motivator for you, [Y/N],â Chan started, balling his hands into a fist. âRemember when you were stressing over late paperwork the other day and wanted chocolate milk but found out there were none left in the staff room?â
âYeah, and?â
âWang took the last one,â Chan stated as-a-matter-of-factly.
âHe didnât.â
âOh, but he did. When I went over to PR to hand in some files, I saw him sipping the last carton of chocolate milk.â
âThat piece of scum,â you seethed, grabbing on to Felixâs waist. âThatâs it, Felix. Weâre taking them down.â
âOh, weâre on first-name basis now?â the freckled boy asked innocently, putting his arm on your waist as well.
âThis is war,â you declared, âweâre partners now. And today, weâre going to wipe off the dregs of society from this earth.â
--
Crackle. Crackle. A wave of heat kissed your face as a puff of smoke danced with the air. And the smell of charcoal was absolutely disgusting, but it was the single sweet reminder that everybody needed and deserved.
âAre we ready?â Yugyeom whispered, hiding behind your back.
âLetâs get cooking.â
Within seconds, the entirety of the Marketing team was scrambling to grab a hold of a piece of barbeque, hungry employees bustling left and right. After winning the competition, food was screaming to be devoured. It was three in the afternoon and nobodyâd eaten lunch yet.
âWait!â Chan cleared his throat. âDo we have drinks? I would like to make a toast.â
âUhâŠâ Jihyo drawled, eyeing the vicinity. âWe have paper cups, but no drinks. Seriously? Who plans a barbeque with no drinks?â
âDoesnât matter, Iâll go to the store. I heard itâs not far from here,â you offered, shoving your hands in the pockets of your jacket.
âIâll go with you in a second,â Chan answered, grabbing a paper cup, âbut before we eat, to [Y/N] and Felix! The ones who trampled over PR during the tiebreak! Raise a glass!â
A cheer erupted from everyoneâs mouths as empty paper cups were raised in the air to honor the victory that belonged to the team.
âOh, can I come with? Thereâs a couple of things I wanna buy, too,â Yugyeom asked, walking towards you.
âYou guys go ahead, Iâll save you some barbeque,â Felix suggested, waving. âCongrats to us. Go get the team some refreshing stuff!â
The three of you made your way out of the area and onto the streets, searching for a nearby grocery or convenience store.
After what seemed like miles of walking, your feet finally brought you in front of a small grocery. You didnât hesitate to walk right in and pick up a basket.
The humble store consisted of a few shelves with worn-out paint lined up neatly in rows and holding all kinds of snacks and delights. The gentle whirring coming from the back lead you to a clear refrigerator with different drinks, and pretty soon, the metal basket in your hands was filled with several bottles. These were piled onto the counter along with a couple bags of chips, courtesy a snacky Yugyeom.
âWhat?â he said when you started to eye him judgingly, throwing the chip bags on the cashier tabletop. âItâs for my midnight cravings and the trip back home.â
You rolled your eyes, handing the cashier your credit card in exchange for your purchases. After getting your card back, the three of you headed back outside. Chan stopped in his tracks.
âWait, so from here, did we take a left turn or a right turn? Right, right?â
âPretty sure it was a left turn, Chan.â
âWhat?! You two are crazy, we came from straight ahead! I saw that sign with the cute cats earlier.â
âOkay, Mr. Kim, weâre trusting you.â
âJust drop the honorifics already. Itâs alright.â
A minute passed⊠then two⊠then fiveâŠ
âThis isnât the way that we came from.â
âYou know what? This is why we live in a technological world. Let me just Google Maps this,â Yugyeom scoffed, pulling out his phone. âAaaaaand⊠it says my line was cut off because I forgot to pay the bill. Cool, cool. Chan?â
âI left my phone in the room earlier because I didnât want it to be hurled around during the race,â Chan answered. â[Y/N], you?â
A trickle of sweat slipped down your forehead. âPhoneâs been dead for over an hour. I used it to record Wang and Tuanâs devastated faces after the competition.â
âUm, excuse me,â Chan attempted, trying to ask an elderly lady for help. She waved him off, muttering something about dangerous strangers.
âRight, so weâre lost, no help, and completely foreign-looking streets. What could get worse?â Yugyeom mumbled all pessimistic.
The clouds rumbled above.
âSeriously?!â Chan breathed out, gesturing for you three to wait under the shade of the grocerâs storefront. âSituational irony? Isnât this just fantastic?â
âHold on,â you began, turning to the oldest of you three. âChan, do you still have the pen I lent you earlier before you left? You said you needed to check attendance.â
âOh yeah, as a matter of fact, I do,â he replied, fishing in his pocket for the said pen. âHere.â
You took it hastily, taking a deep breath before engaging in the one thing you had never thought youâd do in your lifetime. Flipping the cap open, you began to write down a couple of words on your arm.
âHi, Felix. Please tell me when you see this. Itâs really urgent. Chan, Yugyeom, and I are stranded in a grocery, phones dead. Could you come pick us up at XX Grocer with umbrellas?â
âWhat? Howâs that supposed to help us? Itâs not like the words will magically float off into cyberspace,â Yugyeom commented, confused.
Your cheeks began to feel warm. After casting a worried look to Chan, you shut your eyes and began to spill your secret.
âI-ItâsâŠum⊠whatever I write on my arm will show up on Felixâs arm and vice versa,â you explained quietly, keeping your eyes fixated on your arms for any sign of response.
âDonât tell me,â Yugyeom gasped, âheâs the one youâre soulmates with?!â
âSheâs known since high-school,â Chan sighed, âbut there are reasons as to why theyâre not⊠you know. Together. [Y/N] doesnât particularly like to talk about it.â
âNo, itâs alright,â you waved it off, âI can tell you, just please donât tell anyone. Um, actually, Felix and I used to be best friends, but some complicated things happened and we fought. After college, I went to Busan to try to start a new life, but in the end, I couldnât escape him.â
âO-Oh, were you guys dating? Did he know you were here?â Yugyeom inquired, genuinely curious.
As the drops of rain started to pour around, you answered, âNo, we never dated. And itâs all been purely coincidence. I didnât know he was coming and neither did he. Thatâs why it was so difficult for us to interact when he first came.â
âEverything makes sense!â Yugyeom exclaimed, making an explosion gesture with his hands. âWait, did he reply to your arm message?â
You looked down at you arm again and sure enough, the familiar chicken scratch writing appeared.
âIâll be there in a bit. Stay dry! Iâll try to be as quick as possible.â
âOkay, good. Weâre saved.â Chan let out a breath of relief.
In fifteen minutes, Felix was shuffling across the street towards you three, an umbrella in one hand and his phone in the other.
âWhyâd you guys go so far? There was literally a convenience store right beside the place weâre staying at,â Felix questioned, unzipping his bag. âHereâs an extra umbrella.â
âSir BangâChan⊠can I speak with you for a bit on the way home? Thereâs a bit of concern with one of the Marketing members and I need to discuss it with you,â Yugyeom piped up, grabbing the umbrella from Felixâs hands. âIf you donât mind, Iâll share this with Chan. Itâs a personal matter.â
Chan didnât even get a chance to object before he was pulled away by a swift Yugyeom, who began to babble about his concerns. You and Felix watched them mosey away, chattering about whatever was to be chattered about.
âUh, letâs go?â Felix cleared his throat, holding the umbrella. You stepped in and began to walk back to the company outingâs venue.
For a while, all that could be heard was just the pitter-patter of the rain as you trudged on in silence. The quietness was so suffocating, you swear you could hear the cawing of a crow muffled beneath the sounds of the rain.
âHey⊠youâre getting wet,â the freckled boy mentioned, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and pulling you closer to him. He dropped his hand quickly after, opening his mouth to speak. âSorry if this makes you uncomfortable to be so near me, but I just donât want you to get wet.â
You shook your head. âNo, itâs okay. Thank you for being so considerate. And for picking us up.â
âItâs no problem, although this?â he said, riding up his jacket sleeve to expose the scribbles on his arm. âA message saying that you were stranded wasnât exactly what I hoped your first ever arm message to me would be. Iâve been thinking about it lately, and I really wished you mightâve saved it to notify me that you brought rice cakes to work or something.â
A giggle escaped your lips as the thought entered your mind. âWell, sorry that an emergency message isnât as cool as rice cakes. But now that youâve expressed your sentiments, maybe I will bring rice cakes and use our connection to notify you.â
âI canât believe you thought of contacting me that way. Couldnât you have texted?â
âWell, Chanâs phone was left behind, Yugyeom hasnât payed his bills, and mineâs dead. And even if mine wasnât dead, I donât have your number.â
âOuch, you deleted my number after moving?â
ââŠI uh⊠got a new phone?â
âNah, Iâm just kidding you. Itâs alright, I totally get it.â
Just as you arrived at the entrance of the recreation center, you halted your steps and turned to Felix.
For the first time in a very, very long time, you found the strength to look him in the eyes. âUh⊠wait. I just wanted to tell you something.â
âHm?â He turned to you as well, matching your stare. Why were your legs feeling wobbly? Your palms were starting to sweat as well, and you cursed yourself for it. Speaking to Felix properly and serious was something you found extremely difficult to do, but you decided to stop acting like he was a disease you didnât want to catch.
With a deep breath, you began, âSo⊠it kinda felt nice to be able to talk to you again. You know, not about work. JustâŠnormally. I guess, what I wanted to say was, uh, well, is it okay if we restart? Be friends, maybe? I really hate this discomfort between us, and I think it would be better, even for work, if we got along.â
Silence enveloped the air once again, leaving the both of you in the company of the rain and the passing cars. Thoughts of Felix lashing out and angrily speaking back to you flashed in your head; suddenly, you wanted to scurry off and never see his face again. What if he called you out on all the horrible things youâd done to him in the past? You braced yourself for anger, for rejection.
But instead, the boy in front of you broke into a grin. He even chuckled a little, reaching out his hand.
âWell, in that case,â he spoke, âhi. Iâm Lee Felix, itâs nice to meet you. You can call me Felix.â
You grabbed his hand and shook it. âHey, Felix. Iâm [L/N] [Y/N], but feel free to just stick with [Y/N]. Friends?â
âSure. Friends.â
--
Months after declaring the newfound restart, the budding flower of friendship began its ascent into full bloom. Often times, you asked your grandmother to make you some extra rice cakes to bring to work, that of which you shared with Felix. Sure enough, you kept your promise of notifying him through a small doodle of a rice cake on your wrist. You could have sworn you saw his eyes light up every time he noticed what was on his wrist. There were even nights that you two would stay behind to work on projects together, bringing snacks and drinks to keep you guys powered throughout the extra hours. Productivity rate in your team increased due to you and Felixâs hard work, and this did not go by unnoticed.
As he was passing by Felixâs desk, Chan couldnât help but notice that Felixâs usually busy computer screen was shut off and that his freckled junior was staring intently at something in his hands. One look over his shoulder and Chan couldnât help but smile.
He cleared his throat. âWhatâs that?â
The poor boy almost leaped out of his seat. Shoving the object behind his back, Felix responded, âWhatâs what?â
Chan motioned to Felixâs hands. âWhateverâs behind you.â
A trickle of sweat dripped down Felixâs clammy fingers. âJust a photo.â
âOoh, can I see?â Chan pressed on, already knowing exactly what it is the boy held.
âN-No, hyung.â
âCome on. Donât make me pull the superior card.â
âFine!â Felix revealed the photo to the man in front of him, ears turning crimson. âLook, I found our graduation picture while rummaging through some of my old stuff, okay? Itâs just got me thinking, likeâŠI didnât realize how much I missed [Y/N] over time. It seems like forever since we graduated high-school, and I still remember how it felt being her best friend. Sometimes, when I see her laugh with Yugyeom, Iâm reminded of the times I used to be able to make her laugh like that. I donât know, I sorta miss it, um, a lot.â
âHold up, are you jealous of Yugyeom?â Chan raised a brow.
Felix hesitated, turning away. âDonât phrase it like that, please.â
âFelix,â Chan started, breaking into a grin. âDo you like [Y/N]?â
âIs that so weird?â Felix huffed, burying his face in his arms. âI mean like, sheâs my soulmate. But more than that, sheâs a friend I really, really treasure. Like, Iâve been thinking about it and it would really suck if she wasnât in my life. So I kinda came to the conclusion that okay, fine. When I talk to her, itâs not as much so to ask for rice cakes but to actually converse with her. And that I um, do like her. But honestly, between you and me?â
âYeah?â
âThereâs a chance this whole âliking [Y/N]â thing isnât new news.â
--
Now Chan could only be relieved that his team members (namely you and Felix) were finally getting along well, but Yugyeom, on the other hand, would often sometimes send a wiggle of brows in your direction. Of course, this led you to throw crumpled balls of scratch paper at him, but deep down, you too were glad that the office became a more bearable workplace. You were more than thankful to have a good superior, good co-workers, and even a good boss.
On Tuesdays, youâd bring homemade lunch instead of buying from the office canteen. One fateful Tuesday noon, you stood up as soon as lunchbreak started and headed to the staff room to pick up your boxed lunch to heat it up in the microwave. On your way, you thought about handing some extra gimbap to Chan, Yugyeom, and Felix in gratefulness for being good to you. A smile made its way to your face as you entertained the thought, feeling appreciative and enthused that life had been looking up lately.
Just as you were about to open the door to the staff room, a familiar laugh rang in your eyes. Inside the room happened to be your freckled friend, smiling towards a female employee. You easily recognized her to be one of those PR scumbags, and once the realization hit that Felix was mingling with someone from that bloody department, your blood began to boil.
To make matters worse, you caught sight of him handing her what seemed to be a boxâand that was all it took for you to storm into the staff room, take your lunch, and stomp outside in the direction of the canteen.
Once you got to your usual table, you plopped down in front of Yugyeom and hastily opened your lunch box.
âWoah there, tiger. Whatâs with the attitude?â Yugyeom asked, fiddling with his chopsticks. âOh and by the way, Chan wonât be joining us. Heâs in a meeting.â
âFelix is mingling with a girl from PR!â you huffed, stabbing a slice of gimbap and shoving it in your mouth. Between frustrated chews, you managed to sputter, âIâm so ticked off! He gave her a gift, or something!â
Yugyeom almost spit out his water. âWhat?! No way.â
âYes way,â you nodded, wiping your mouth. âSaw them in the staff room being all friendly. I mean come on, ugh!â
âHold on.â Yugyeom squinted his eyes. âAre you jealous?â
This time, it was your turn to almost spit out your water. âExcuse me? Yugyeom, you know how bad it is for someone to flirt with the enemy!â
âYeah, but like, you sure youâre not justâŠI donât knowâŠpissed that Felix was flirting with someone who isnât you?â
âThe hell?â you hissed. âFelix does not flirt with me.â
Yugyeom sighed and rolled his eyes. âIf thatâs how you think, you are a lost cause, woman. When you write him notes or whatever on your wristâwhich by the way, talk about cheesy!âhis face lights up like a Christmas tree. And your banter as you do paperwork? Donât get me started.â
âHe gets excited because goodness knows Felix loves rice cakes more than anything. And office banter is nothing but what it is! What, I canât argue about the better way to appeal to customers? Whatâs so romantic about different marketing topics? Seriously, do you know how un-sexy âGeographic Segmentationâ sounds? Anyway, Iâm still upset that loverboyâs sucking up to PR. I mean, really?â you scoffed.
âWhoâs sucking up to PR?â A deep voice came, startling you. When Felix took a seat next to you, you rolled your eyes and stood up. Petty, but absolutely necessary. You werenât going to stand for anyone who mingled with PR. And just like that, you strut off towards your department, deciding that your table was the best place to eat lunch for now.
âI cannot even bear to see you guys sometimes,â Yugyeom exhaled, watching Felix try to comprehend what had just taken place in front of his eyes.
--
One entire week had passed since you started to act cold towards Felix, who had not a single clue what on earth was going on. Every time he tried to speak to you, you brushed it off with some lame excuse about having to think of the best way to brand the companyâs latest product or that you were busy with paperwork.
âChan, did I do something?â Felix questioned one Thursday, leaning on his superiorâs desk. His face seemed to be clearly distraught by the furrowed eyebrows and pursed lips.
âWhy? Did you do something?â Chan shot back, typing away at his laptop.
âI donât know, man! [Y/N]âs been avoiding me like the plague. And she only does that if I do something wrong. Remember when I didnât show up to our reunion in high-school? When you and the alumni hyungs wanted to hang at the amusement park but I didnât go? Yeah, she wouldnât talk to me because she was so upset,â Felix sighed, rubbing his temples. âThis time, I donât even know whatâs up. And it sucks. I miss her rice cakes. Itâs been a week.â
âWell, try to think of anything that you mightâve done to piss her off. Take her stapler? Send a late file?â Chan suggested, still not looking up from his screen.
âNone of that! I swear, I blinked, and then she was mad. This is such bad timing because I want to ask her out for the holidays, and the break is starting soon. I donât wanna end the year this way!â Felix whined, shoulders slumping.
âThank me later,â Chan told him, raising his voice, â[Y/N]! Please come over here. There are some files to be looked over pronto!â
âComing!â you replied, getting off your chair and walking to your superiorâs table. But just as you came, he stood up and grabbed his clipboard.
âActually, I have a meeting about now. But donât worry, the file that needs to be looked over isâoh wow! Lee Felix.pdf is right here. Amazing. Love you both, see you at lunch!â With a grin, Chan sauntered off.
You folded your arms and tapped your shoes indignantly. âWhat, Felix?â
âIâm so sorry about Chan,â he apologized, rubbing his hands together. âBut I do need to talk to you. Why have you been ignoring me?â
You rolled your eyes. âOh, I donât know, Felix. Maybe because someone was being all buddy-buddy last Wednesday with some girl from PR. I mean, are you even for real? How could you flirt with someone from PR?!â
âWait⊠are you jealous?â
âWhy does everybody automatically assume that Iâm jealous?â you snapped. âThe answer is no, you idiot! Iâm angry because you were mingling with our rivals, our arch nemeses!â
When Felix remembers the events of last Wednesday, a laugh escapes his mouth. âW-What?â
âDonât âwhatâ me. I clearly saw you being all generous and handing one of the PR girls a gift in the staff room. I have eyes, you know!â
â[Y/N]⊠noâŠâ Felix started, trying to stifle more laughter. âI wasnât flirting with her. That girlâs a family friend and I had to return a book that my mom borrowed from her mom. She told me that just because weâre family friends didnât mean that her department would go easy on us. And I told her, âof courseâ, because Iâm loyal to MarketingâIâm loyal to our team. Besides, I already have someone else in mind that Iâd like to flirt with.â
You were taken aback. Somewhere deep in the crevices of your heart was a wave of relief mixed with disappointment, but you waved it off and let a giant smirk rest on your lips. âWoah, woah, woah, Lee Felix! Whoâs the special someone?â
âLike Iâd tell you, cheesebrain.â
âYou suck.â
âNo, not really. Anyway, youâre going back to Seoul for the break, right?â
âOh yeah, why?â
âWanna meet up on the 26th? Iâm going home, too,â Felix invited.
âOh shoot, yeah, sure! Iâll be sure to mark my schedule. Iâm free that day anyway. What time to what time?â
âJust keep it flexible. Iâll text you or you know,â Felix motioned to his arm, âmaybe Iâll write.â
âJust text me, I might accidentally wash it off.â
âSee you then!â
--
The cold winter air was not the only thing that greeted you once you arrived back in Seoul, no. As soon as you set foot into the familiar gates of your home, your parents and relatives showered you with tight squeezes, slobbery kisses, and all sorts of questions. Were you eating properly? Did you have time to go Christmas shopping? How was work? Did you meet your soulmate yet? Was Busan better than Seoul, or Seoul better than Busan?
As much as you wanted to entertain your family with tales of Busan, settling in after a long travel sounded too good to pass. Once you spent an ample amount of time with them, you headed upstairs to your room.
Ah, your room. Upon opening the door, you took a whiff of the comforting scent of your original room, familiarity embracing you like an old friend. You flopped down on the fluffed-up sheets and could not resist a grin.
It was good to be home.
In a few hours, the grandfather clock in the living room would chime, signaling the start of a new day and the beginning of Christmas itself. But for now, you wanted nothing more but to put your mind at rest, leaving all thoughts of work behind at the doorstep. It was just you, your bed, and the chilly winter weather.
But someoneâno, rather somethingâcame to join your cozy trio, and it was right there in bright blue ink on your left wrist.
âHey there. Get home safely?â
With a smile, you grabbed the gel pen in your bag and started to jot down a response.
âI thought you preferred text.â
âMy head hurts and I donât want to use my phone. Iâm just resting in my room and hiding from my sisters, who wonât stop asking me about you.â
âOh, so youâve discussed me?â
â[Y/N], you never answered my first question.â
âRighty-o, Sir Lee. I did, indeed, come home fine with Grandma. It was fun to bring her home. The familyâs stoked weâve come.â
âCan I have permission to erase lines with wet wipes every few messages? My arm gets crowded. Also, please use a water-based pen. It makes it easier to wipe off.â
âJust text, then.â
âI deleted your number, too.â
âWhat the hell, Felix?â
âIâm kidding! See you on Kakao!â
--
âSo, do I wear this sweater or this blouse? Kinda think the blouse is cute, but the sweaterâs practical since the weatherâs begging to freeze my butt,â you spoke into your laptop, which displayed a video of Chan furrowing his eyebrows as he took a look at your choices.
âYouâre worrying too much. Just go with the sweater, it doesnât make you look any less cute,â Chan snickered, âitâs so fun to watch my little [Y/N] put so much effort into this.â
Your cheeks flushed. âJust shut up and help me, Chan! Skirt, jeans, or leggings?â
âSkirt? Why would you even suggest a skirt? Damn, girl, youâre asking for frostbite at this point. Go with the leggings and make sure to wear leg warmers. Bring a thick coat, too.â
âOkay, mom. But are you sure this doesnât make me look like a Christmas tree? Maybe a CHRISmas tree!â
Chan rolled his eyes and sighed. âIt wonât be cute if your teeth are chattering and your skin begs to be kept warm. Just dress warmly. Hey, hey, whatâs with the sigh?â
âWait. Yo, yo, I just realized something. Itâs just going to be me and Felix I think tomorrow. I-Is that a date or something? What if it is?!â
âCalm down. Did he say if it was or not?â
âI donât know! He just said he was going to spend the day with me!â
A 480p-quality simper sat on Chanâs lips on the screen. âAre you scared because it might be a date or because he might just be asking you out as a friend?â
âIâm not SCARED, Chan! You know what, thatâs honestly the least of my concerns!â you answered indignantly. âWhat if he stands me up? Remember the amusement park fiasco?â
âRelax, [Y/N]. He will NOT stand you up. Have you seen the way heâs been lately? Felix has been overtiming a lot, heâs always punctual and/or early for meetings, and he makes sure to go to all the places heâs assigned to. Whenever he canât make it, he always messages a day or two in advance. I think that says something.â
âOkay, okay. Youâre right. Anyway, Iâm going to wash up and go to sleep. Thank you so much for taking the time to video chat me. Iâm going to go now, merry Christmas! Say hi to unnie for me, please. Love you, bye.â
âBye, [Y/N]! Good luck. Text me the details of it all! Merry Christmas. Love you too!â
--
Was it irregular to be having hands this clammy, to be having palms this sweaty? Felix pressed two fingers to his neck to check his pulse. Okay, great. It was good to know that he was still alive.
âAgh! This is going to kill me! Please, please, please come soon,â Felix thought, checking his phone for a new notification. Just in case, he rolled up his padded jacketâs sleeve and checked his arm. Both were devoid of any sign from you.
As if on cue, the freckled boy felt a tap on his back and there you were, bundled up in a cozy outfit. Holy. Crap. He had to fight the urge to squeeze you in his arms.
âH-Hey, [Y/N]. Glad you could make it.â Felix cleared his throat, offering his arm for you to hold. âUm, shall we? Have you eaten lunch?â
âYeah, I have. You?â
âSame. Anyway, is there anywhere you want to go to?â Felix asked, starting to walk.
You squinted your eyes in thought. âHmm⊠I donât have anything particular in mind.â
âAlright, so itâs 2:45 now. I was thinking that maybe you wanna go to the old arcade? We can spend some time there, then maybe go around the area. Look at a museum if you want.â
âSounds like a plan.â
--
Laughter filled the air as you clutched your stomach, trying to stop yourself from giggling too much. At this point, you were borderline gasping for air with every guffaw. Felix was doing the same, and he had to hold onto your shoulder to keep himself from stumbling onto the concrete ground.
âI canât believe you did that, Felix! We could have gotten kicked out of the museum, damn it!â you commented between laughs. âIâm so embarrassed by you now!â
âNot my fault that the little kid wanted to see me bust some dance moves. Yugyeom isnât the only one in Marketing who can dance, you know,â Felix answered, wiggling his eyebrows.
âWhatever, you doofus. Whatâs next? Itâs pretty dark already, so maybe dinner?â you asked, checking your watch.
Felix cleared his throat and his back started to stiffen. âActually, I have a place in mind.â
You nodded and proceeded to hail a taxi from the waiting stand. Felix whispered something to the driver and you were off, silently sitting in the backseat.
âWhere are we going?â
âShhh, youâll see,â was all Felix managed to reply before he looked out the window thoughtfully.
As soon as you arrived at the mystery place, Felix payed the cab driver and helped you get out. When you stepped out of the car, your eyes widened. Youâd recognize this area anywhere.
For a little, silence was all that was shared between you two as you walked alongside the riverbank, the one place you knew had a special space for in your heart. Back then, this had been you and Felixâs favorite spot to go to after a tiring school day. And on one fateful December 26th, you were back, walking beside him once again.
The frigid wind left you to huddle a little closer than usual to Felix, who didnât seem to mind. Gentle brushing of the hands led your fingers to intertwine with his, locking safely in his cozy yet sweaty palms; you could only hope he would not hear the erratic beating of your heart pounding against your ribcage with every passing second. This was happening, this was happening, this was happeningâand oh dear, you didnât dislike it.
A few minutes seemed like eternity with Lee Felix. But eternity wasnât going to cut it for the scene that lay in front of you, the scene he had brought you to.
Sitting on the riverside was a small tent lit dimly by the soft glow of fairy lights, a sight youâd only managed to conjure up in your head once, long ago. But there it was, every bit of it as real as the warm feeling of Felixâs hands in yours.
Your lips parted. âF-Felix, is thisâŠ?â
âYeah,â he nodded, leading you to the small tent and helping you take a seat inside. âUh, thereâs some soju in that cooler and some gimbap over there if you want. And japchae. Chopsticks are here.â
âWhen did you have the time to even prepare this? I swear, youâve been with me all day,â you questioned, reaching for the chopsticks as Felix cracked open the plastic container of gimbap.
He smiled. âOh, I called for help from people I know whoâd never pass up the chance to aid in this surprise.â
You gasped. âLet me guess. Hyunjin? Jisung? Seungmin, Jeongin?â
He gave you thumbs-up. âMy boys.â
âOur boys,â you corrected, shoving a piece of kimbap in your mouth.
A few gimbaps and bites of japchae later, you found yourselves in silence once again, sipping soju from little paper cups.
âSoâŠI think this is the part where I start talking,â Felix began, wiping his mouth. He directed his gaze right at your eyes.
âI hope you liked the little surprise, [Y/N]. Even though⊠technically⊠it wasnât my idea, but yours. Actually, the reason I brought you here was because itâs finally time for me to give something to you, very, very long overdue,â he continued, âwhen we were in highschool, I didnât expect us to become friends. Frankly, I though that I annoyed you every time I talked to you at the 4419 bus stop. Remember when we first had a proper conversation? Man, after that, the ball just speeded downhill. Before I knew it, we were an inseparable duo. [Y/N] and Felix. Felix and [Y/N]. Hell, I remember getting poked fun at for it, and people were teasing me that I liked you. Which⊠honestly, Iâve come to realizeâŠwas true. I admit, they were right. Itâs actually kind of weird, Iâve only known since recently that I caught some real, big feelings for you back then.â
Here Felix paused to take a sip of water before he went on. âI havenât forgotten the first time I found out my soulmate link. Blue ink, wrist, all-caps: âSTUDYâ. When I found out that a girl from our school had a similar link, I almost freaked out. But honestly? I only started to flirt with her to umâwow, this is embarrassingâmake you jealous. Childish, right? And after a while, ironically, it backfired. âCause I started to like her. Anyway, fast forward, college, right? We all know what happened⊠then what happened after graduation. I lost you. My soulmate, but most importantly, my best friend. It was the worst because I lost you, and I could have avoided that,â he sighed, âand so here we are. Somehow, life has given us a second chance, and I donât want to screw this up. So [Y/N], Iâm sorry. Iâm so, so sorry. Iâm sorry that I did so many stupid things in the past, Iâm sorry that I was an awful best friend, Iâm sorry that I didnât fight harder to keep you in my life. Iâm sorry for hurting you.â
âFelix,â you piped up suddenly, âLook, Iâm sorry too. I think itâs a failure on both parts because really, maybe if I wasnât so selfish, we could have avoided the whole fight. I didnât know you were willing to wait for me until, you know, then. Iâve blamed myself a lot for that, but Iâve come to realize that you know what? Itâs alright to make mistakes, and I forgive myself for doing that. And if I can forgive myself, I can forgive you. When we decided to restart our friendship, honestly, I was more than relieved to hear you were on board for it as well. So, can we agree to put all our mistakes in the past?â
âYes. Iâd love that. Man, thank you so much, [Y/N], for giving me another chance. I, too, forgive you for everything. And Iâm so glad that youâre back in my life.â
âAw, come here,â you grinned, opening your arms for a hug. Felix wrapped his arms around you tightly, and for a while, thatâs how you two stayed.
âWait, Iâm actually not done,â Felix announced, pulling away. As he opened his mouth to speak, his hands started to shake a little bit.
âOh?â You tilted your head to the side, curious as to what the boy would say next.
âI canât promise you that I wonât make any more mistakes in the future, but for what itâs worth, Iâve learned from the past. And if anything, anything, happens that causes me to stumble and hurt you, Iâm willing to put up a fight to make it right. I canât promise you that the future holds all flowers and sunshine, but if thereâs one thing that I am absolutely, terribly sure of, it is that [Y/N]?â
âMm?â
âIâm in love with you.â
All you could hear was the faint howling of the wind as you were rendered absolutely speechless. It took minutes to process the words Felix had just spoken, and when you managed to grasp the idea of it, all you could sputter out was, âReally?â
Felix nodded. âYes. Really.â
âIâve waited since third-year of highschool for you to say that,â you admitted, mustering all your strength not to smile. âSo, can IâŠkiss you?â
âYes, yes you can,â he answered, leaning in.
So, slowly, surely, you kissed him. You let the gentle caress of his lips speak for themselves as they locked with your own, causing your heart to beat fervently in your chest. It may have been short, chaste even, but one kiss was all it took for you to confirm the vehemence that had been lurking deep down in the crevices of your entire being.
âIâm sorry that this isnât as grand as youâd hoped. I remember you told me that you wanted big sparks to fly when you met your soulmate,â Felix laughed nervously, taking the opportunity to rest his hand on top of yours.
You shook your head. âNo, Iâm glad that itâs you, and Iâm glad that this is how it turned out.â
Perhaps if it had been another day in another place at another time, youâd say that loving Lee Felix was quite full of irony. But since you were here, at this specific moment on this specific day in this specific place at this specific time, you could truly and sincerely say that there was nothing ironic about it, that there was nothing paradoxical about loving Lee Felix.
There was only bliss. There was only certainty.

(In a shocking turn of events, Liv learns that Noah loves One Direction.)
"Noah, we have to clean up a little."
The response was a groan, then it was a pout on his lips, and a gentle tug on her wrist. "Can't we stay in bed a bit more, hmm?" Noah muttered with his low voice that he thought was compelling. And in all honesty Liv did like that deep tone of his and she let herself get pulled back in to the bed, just to sit on the edge. Well, also steal a short kiss or two.
As their lips met, Noah started to touch her cheek gently, moving on to her neck as he pulled her closer, humming softly as a way to show his comfort, tugging a bit more, pulling her back in to bed-
"Stop it, we have to clean the kitchen before Ralph comes! Its a mess," she said as she pushed him back on the bed and got up.
Her words seemed to have no affect on him as he continued to look at her with pleading eyes. She rolled her eyes at his immaturity and as much as she wanted to stay in bed a bit more, things needed to get done. "Fine, you asked for it," she mumbled and went to get her phone and the speaker.
Noah was watching with curious eyes as she smirked in a cunning way, her smile getting wider just before she decided on a song to listen.
"If you won't get out of the bed we will listen cheesy pop songs until you give up. I know how much you hate those," she said.
Noah was gasping in fake horror and for a moment she thought it was working as he got up from the bed. She hid the phone behind herself, placing it on the window shell but her brows furrowed in confusion once she saw the delighted expression on his face.
"I love this song!"
Was he being serious?
Normally, the pop songs on the radio annoyed him to death, led him into picking apart the 'stupid' lyrics and generic tunes. But here he was grinning like a kid, holding Liv's hands and forcing her to move to a One Direction song.
And girl
You and I
We're about to make some memories tonight
"I cannot believe it," she was mumbling as Noah sang along to the words, not missing even a single line. He was literally jumping around, and after rolling her eyes and expressing her shock, she was playing along. It was diffucult to resist his charm on a normal day and when he was this giddy and excited it was exceptionally diffucult. Liv didn't even properly knew that song from the band but his aura was contegious.
"This was meant to be a punishment."
"Well, Liv. I'm a mysterious guy, full of surprises," Noah said teasingly as spotify moved on to another One Direction song. "I don't like most of those basic bands but them... I have a soft spot."
It was truly a surprise. Because it was not just knowing an over played song, he was very happy to listen to this band. Liv was never a hater or a fan but definietly did not expect this from Noah, the music snob. "You're not messing with me, right?"
Noah shook his head as a no, he was humming the words to another song now. How many One Direction songs did he know? "I had a... One Direction phase in middle school. I know their first albums very well."
You know 'cause all my life,
I've been waiting for a girl like you
to come around
He was singing the cheesy words as if they were coming from a poet, staring deeply into her eyes. Her plan had backfired at her because instead of making him feel frustrated, he was having a good time by teasing Liv. "You're really fanboy, huh? Did you have a fave or something?" Oh, this was interesting.
The boy who had no problem with dancing around to a boyband or singing along to the lyrics with pride, was now blushing. He was really flushed from his cheeks to his neck, even his torso was gaining a little color. "Oh my god you do! You had a crush on one of them!"
"Liv..." he lowered his voice once more but she was enjoying it too much to stop. "Fine, fine!" he caved after a bit of more teasing, covering his face with his hands for a moment. "I liked Harry, okay? And I kinda still listen to his music," he said casually but his cheeks were still red and Liv was laughing at his shyness. "His music is good! His style is too- oh just shut up."
The bickering went on, there were lots of teasing and quick kisses and One Direction.
It was Liv who turned red as Noah picked up the guitar, playing a soft One Direction song that she wasn't familiar with. When he looked at her like that, as if he could see right through her, as if he really meant all those cheesy lovely lyrics, it was hard to keep calm, okay?
I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it's true, it's you, it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you and all these little things
Maybe One Direction was better than she used to think.

word count: 1,552
warnings: maybe a little cussing i dont even know at this point, unedited
taglist: @zaddydaniel
The following three weeks seem to drag on. You couldnât contain the excitement bubbling inside of you everytime you thought about going the rapidly approaching Why Donât We Christmas Show, and nothing in your normal day to day life compared to that. It felt like your professors never stopped droning on, your studying for finals was never-ending, and that your work at the cafe was going to continue on for eternity.
Despite all of this, the day of the performance was finally here. And you had absolutely no idea what to wear. You room looked like a complete mess, with various items of clothing sprawled across every possible surface. You wanted to make a good impression on the boys seeing that they meant a lot to Jonah and not to mention they were celebrities, but deep down you knew the real reason you wanted to look good: for Jonah. But nothing looked right. Everything either looked like you were trying to hard, or just like complete shit. You settled on a black crop top that had thin cream and maroon stripes on it, layered with an army green flannel, and paired with your favorite medium wash ripped jeans and a black belt. You headed to your bathroom and checked the time on your phone. You had an hour before you had to leave to pick up Emma. Jonah had sent you an extra VIP pass and you decided to take her. You met during your freshman year at college and were extremely close now. You plugged your phone into the outlet seeing that it was at a whopping 12% and opened Spotify. After pressing shuffle, you grabbed your hairbrush and started to comb through your extremely tangled hair. You werenât that big into hair or makeup primarily because you didnât typically have the time, but also because whenever you attempted, it never looked that great anyway. You could only do about one thing with your hair that looked halfway decent, and that was beach waves so you decided to do that. After you did your hair you moved on to makeup, and you were lowkey impressed with the finished product. You grabbed your chapstick and threw it into your purse and spritzed on a final touch of perfume. Quickly, (as you were running late), you threw on your small gold hoops, slipped on your vans, and headed out the door.
Emma lived only 5ish minutes away and today you made it to her apartment in record time. As she stepped outside her door you could tell she radiated excitement. She had been a Limelight since you had known her so could only imagine how pumped she was. You tried to avoid listening to the band because hearing Jonahâs voice used to break your heart. But now that you were seeing them, you definitely thought you should learn some of the songs so the past three weeks you have been listening to Why Donât We on repeat. Emma opened the car door and let out a little squeal when she entered.
âY/n, thank you so so much for inviting me! I know Iâve said that like a million times since you gave me the ticket but seriously Iâm so freaking excited!â She exclaimed buckling her seatbelt.
 You chuckled.
âYouâre welcome Emma but I wouldnât go thanking me just yet. I still have to get us there.â You said typing in the address Jonah had given you. The performance was at the Mall of America but he wanted you guys to meet him and the boys earlier at a different location in the middle of downtown that you had never been to before, and letâs face it you werenât the worldâs most skilled driver; and these directions were not promising.
âWe will be fine y/n, especially with me as your navigator!â She chirped in response and took your phone from you. You two began to make your way to the location and the ride there turned out to be pretty smooth. Emma hooked up her phone to the Bluetooth and of course was playing Why Donât We. You made it there without getting lost and even successfully did the parallel parking in the downtown street. Emma handed you back your phone so that you could text Jonah that you had arrived. He responded almost immediately and told you that he would send some of the security out to you and they would take you back. Sure enough, two minutes later two tall, extremely tall and built guys in all black came striding over towards you. They asked to see both of your licenses and after verifying it was you said, âRight this way maâam.â You locked your car and followed the two looming figures across the streets. Â
They took you through a series of twists and turns after what seemed like an eternity, you reached a hotel back door.
âWe have to go through the back so that the fans out front donât see us,â The one guard explained.
From there, you took the elevator to the top floor. After a moment of walking down the hallway, the security guards stopped in front of room 804. They pulled out a key card and scanned it on the lock, causing the light to turn green and they entered the room. Emma grabbed your hand and gave it a little squeeze. You followed them into the room to see three boys sprawled out on the couch playing none other that Fortnite. In unison, they all turned over to look at you and Emma. One of them shut off the Playstation and they headed in your direction.
âYou must be y/n,â One of them said, sticking out his hand. âIâm Daniel.â
You smiled. âYeah I am, nice to meet you!â
âIâm Jack!â The curly headed boy said with a grin.
âAnd Iâm Corbyn,â The blonde one said not able to tear his eyes off of Emma. You looked over at her and she was speechless. You were pretty sure Corbyn was her favorite and you could tell she was starstruck; Emma had never been speechless.
âThis is Emma,â You said gesturing to your quiet friend, putting a supportive hand on her shoulder. âShe is a huge fan of you guys and my best friend.â
âWell, we could be happier to have you Emma! Let me show you around,â Corbyn responded grabbing Emmaâs hand. As they were about to turn the corner, your friend looked back over her shoulder giving you a look almost saying, âIS THIS SERIOUSLY HAPPENING RIGHT NOW??!?!?â You chuckled and gave her a small thumbs up and she disappeared with Corbyn.
âDo you guys know where Jonah is?â You asked Jack and Daniel.
âHeâs over there,â Daniel nodded over to the bathroom. âI think he is getting ready.â
âFor you,â Jack mumbled as Daniel elbowed him.
Confused, you thanked them and headed in the direction of the lit room. You knocked on the door and sure enough Jonah opened the door.
âY/n!â He exclaimed engulfing you in a bear hug. âIâm so glad you could make it! Was the drive okay?â
You hugged him back and then began to tell him about your ride here. He listened and guided you to the couch with his hand on your back as you continued to tell him about your drive. As you sat down, you told him about how Emma was a little awe-struck he laughed.
âItâs okay, we are used to it. And from what you told me about her, Iâm sure it wonât be long before she warms up.â He said kindly. âWhere is she though?â He asked looking around the room. Daniel and Jack were now accompanied by Zach who you met in the bathroom when you saw Jonah. But Corbyn and Emma were still nowhere to be found.
âIâm not sure, she went off with Corbyn earlier but that was a while ago.â You shrugged as Jonah got a surprised look on his face.
âThatâs weird, normally Corbyn doesnât show interest in girls. He got out of a long term relationship six months ago and we have tried to get him back out there, but he hasnât wanted to⊠until now at least.â
âYeah Emma is really great.â You answered smiling. You were so happy for her and hoped she was hitting it off well with her crush. She was a super bubbly and outgoing person but didnât have the best relationships in the past.
âSo y/n,â Jonah said clapping his hands together. âWhat do you want to do? We have about an hour and a half until we have to leave for the performance. We can watch a movie, we could go somewhere but run the risk of the paperazzi, um thereâs video games, foosball-â
âFOOSBALL!â You shrieked. âYou are going down Marais.â
âDid someone say foosball?â Daniel asked looking up from his phone.
âFOOSBALL TOURNAMENT!â Jack shouted as him, Zach, and Daniel bounded to the game room.
Jonah rolled his eyes. He grabbed your hand, which felt very small in his, and walked you to the game room. Your heart started beating fast, and you were sure if it was from holding hands, the adrenaline from the prospect of competition, or a combination of both.

Good morning, folks and welcome to ⊠Monday.
So, how was your weekend? Mind was spent in utter chaos. I should have taken pictures of my house during the building of the desk. We bought Miss Goose a new desk from Amazon and it arrived last Thursday. Now, I could have had them assemble it for an extra $150, but ⊠nah ⊠we can put it together. How hard can it be, after all? Probably take 2-3 hours, right? WRONG! Six hours on Saturday just to put the desk part together, then about another 5 hours on Sunday to put the hutch together and hoist it atop of it. Solid wood. Heavy â 193 pounds worth of heavy. Meanwhile, all the crappola she had in her old desk was scattered throughout the house and I damn near broke bones more than once trying to get to the washing machine, and at one point it was an obstacle course just to get to the bathroom! I have bruises and a back that seems not to want to bend, but it is complete now and she is quite happy, so ⊠I told her it has to last her past my death, âcause I am never going through this again! Should have just spend the $150 for the professional installation. Hereâs a look at the finished product âŠ
Today is a special Jolly Monday, for our young friend Benjamin is on school break and will be joining us! So, grab a snack and lets find a few smiles before we have to head off to our various jobs, shall we?
                   Larryâs bacon
Matchmaker, Matchmaker âŠ
Jeff Gebhart of Prairie Village, Kansas, is looking for a girlfriend. Jeff told a local television station, KCTV, that he is tired of the âtraditionalâ methods and also of online dating, so heâs come up with a whole new approach. Gebhart debuted his own dating site last Sunday, exclusively dedicated to finding himself a new partner, and heâll give $25,000 to anyone who sends the perfect match his way. Heâll also sweeten the pot by donating $25,000 to a no-kill dog shelter or charity. He seems a bit desperate to me, but Jeff says âŠ
âI donât need a person to âcompleteâ me, but Iâm looking for a person with qualities that will allow us to complement each other.â
Sounds simple, right? But wait ⊠there are rules. The person Gebhart is matched up with must date him and him alone for a year before the matchmaker will be paid, and even then, he/she will be paid in installments of five $5,000 payments over a five-year stretch. If Gebhart and the gal split before the final payment, the matchmaker gets only what he or she has earned to that point. Thereâs also an online quiz that applicants will need to take to see if their personalities sync with his. So what, exactly is he looking for? Someone who is âŠ
â⊠fun, easy to spend time with ⊠confident, driven ⊠and has a zest for life. The main objective of this is to find the right girl for me, wherever she is.â
Okaaaay ⊠well, good luck, Jeff!
Mickey Dâs?
This is what the inside of your average McDonaldâs restaurant looks like âŠPlastic tables and chairs, nothing special ⊠just your average kid-friendly fast food joint. But, if you happen to be in Rome, Italy, or more specifically the Roma Termini, and have a craving for a Big Mac, this is what youâll see âŠ
What is it, you ask? It is a small section of the Servian Wall that was unearthed during the construction of the stationâs underground shopping mall, and was thus integrated into the dining area of McDonaldâs.
The Servian Wall was constructed around the city of Rome during the 4th century B.C. The outline of the wall possibly dates back to the times of King Servius Tullius, for which it garnered its namesake. The wall stood for generations as the first line of defense against the Gauls and Carthaginians. By the early Imperial age, the wall became unnecessary as the Roman army grew in number and power. Eventually, it was superseded by the Aurelian Wall constructed by Emperor Aurelian in 275.
Definitely not the atmosphere you expect to see while munching on your chicken nuggets, eh?
Whose playlist???
Now, you all know how much I love critters, right? But even I, the ultimate critter lover, find this just a bit over the top. The Swedish audio-streaming company Spotify recently announced that it has made playlists and a podcast for dogs to listen to in their ownersâ absence. Why, you ask? Apparently, it found in a survey that 74% of pet-owners play music for their pets to listen to for company when they are away from home, with 42% of owners saying their pets have a favorite type of music. A quarter of pet owners said they have even seen their pets dancing to music.
youtube
So, what kind of music does Spotify think dogs like to hear? The podcast features soothing music, âdog-directed praiseâ, stories, and messages of affirmation and reassurance narrated by actors to alleviate stress for dogs who are home alone. Meanwhile, the playlists aimed at pets offer tracks selected by algorithms to match petsâ characteristics such as energetic or slow.
Okay, then, but ⊠what about cats, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, birds and other pets? Wonât they feel left out? Oh wait!!!
In another article, I found that the company says that if you have a pet rabbit, Spotify may not be able to fulfill her musical needs right now. For now, it can only musically accommodate dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, and iguanas!
youtube
Take heart all you iguana families out there ⊠they havenât forgotten you after all!!!
Tartan sheep âŠ
Get a load of these Tartan sheep found in the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre in Scotland!
If youâre wondering about these unique animals, the sign here explains it âŠ
Who knew??? Well ⊠actually ⊠they are spray painted to look like that. But donât worry ⊠this is a special, non-toxic spray paint, the same that is used to number them during lambing season, and is perfectly harmless. It was the idea of the owner of the Wildlife Centre, Maxine Scott, when she first purchased the park ten years ago.
The park had already had a tradition of creating painted sheep, so she kept up this tongue-in-cheek practice. The sheep in these photos are April and Daisy. Of all the tourists that come by, it is the Americans that seem to enjoy the joke the most. She tells people that the Tartan Sheep change color often and encourages people to come back to see her ewes again.
Now, are you ready for some âtoons, courtesy of Philâs Phun?
While I was mooching around over at Philâs, I came across this video and it is just so much fun that I had to share it. Itâs a group of guys that have formed a friendship over the years of waiting for their wives shopping at Target! If you are in the mood for a few laughs, you really must see this!
youtube
Well, if itâs Jolly Monday, then it must be time for a cute animal video, mustnât it? I bet you never thought of these guys as being fun pets, but just watch âŠ
youtube
Okay, folks, the clock is ticking and weâve all got work to do. I have to clean up the mess from the weekendâs construction project, so ⊠Oh, by the way, before I forget ⊠today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day, so ⊠letâs all try to do something nice, no matter how small, for someone. Buy a stranger a cup of coffee, take a neighborâs trash out, or whatever opportunity presents itself, okay? And smile ⊠share those smiles ⊠bring one to somebody elseâs face today, okay? Love ân hugs from Filosofa and Jolly!
Jolly Monday At Last!!! Good morning, folks and welcome to ⊠Monday. So, how was your weekend? Mind was spent in utter chaos.Â

Benaz - Riz MC
You see Things dipped in Benaz's life when Dad crashed his car lost minicab license He picked fights with Ma He'd drink nights at bars Wished he had a son Redundant and drunk Benaz tried stopping from shoving her mum around So now he beats her like it makes him proud The fat lips meant she had to quit Topshop And now they beef and argue nonstop She won't marry some freshie cousin, she's telling him He's only in it for the passport and benefits But Dad doesn't get it or wanna You see He's an immigrant with nothing, so his currency's honor He already promised the relative she would be the bride for his son Her second cousin said it would please her But the young girl doesn't think like the geeza She won't let him shut away her heart like a dealer Mum backed her up and he left it But to him this is worse than death, disrespected So now she doesn't work but she runs domestics Then one day at Tescos who woulda guessed it The self-service checkout wasn't workin' Then, outta nowhere, "Can I help you, ma'am?" Get the hell out It's her first crush from primary school Haven't met since then, but when she smiles he still drools "Long time, no see" "Yeah, the irony" Cool Soon, buying milk and eggs becomes a nightly excuse His name's Akin An orphan, ain't got many friends Suits Benaz, she stays low key in the ends He's not the usual wannabe macho guy with the Benz He's studying optometry, skinny, not hench He examines her green eyes, his heart does breakbeats Smiles are swapped, soon, they find place to creep They walk deep in woods, where grass carpets feet Phone bills grow in the dark, half-asleep It's the real deal, he wanna do it proper Puts on best suit, knocks on door to ask the old codger Akin asks her dad and he makes a little speech But all he gets is a no, like a kick in the teeth 'Cause his grandad's from the wrong tribe or village He's from the wrong subset of the same religion It's not a way to pick for yourself like you're the English "Don't ever try to see her again, this is finished." But love's persistent Benaz and Akin can't resist magnetism She feels so blue, but he soothes the hurt Says they can't stop love and calls her his little Smurf But soon they're seen by boys from the community That go out and fuck white girls with impunity Oh, gee! Misogyny meets old school hypocrisy "What we do is fine, but our women must live honestly." Word spreads, other people's whispers twisted This innocent love into sinful kisses "Control your daughter, what an awful family" "She already backed out of a marriage and now she sleeps with any old boy." Truth is, she's a virgin, yeah But gossip is rarely the true version Hurting the family the name is like losing the life savings So Dad collects payment as bailiff Pounds her flesh, blood speckles all over the loo Words can break bones and turn your eyes blue She zones out, goes numb as he kicks and slaps her She listens to that rained down pitter and patter The same pitiful rhythm of hypocritical chatter From those who call her "whore, slut, bitch" and slap her No matter She has a special concealer for these mornings Applies to eyelids while the violent are yawning Dawn brings a silence, she holds it close She's a lily in its lake and for now, she floats With faith in her heart, she thinks Maybe she should just play a part In some imaginary poets tragic heart 'cause she's not gonna live a half life She cleans pus from her hard eye Smiles in the mirror, decides Her choice either disobey Dad and risk death Or prison jailed in her own home and sit there She thinks, "Yes, I'll run away with Akin." Sends text, wears frown as crown, such a pitiful princess Says "Meet me in the forest if you honestly love me Before dawn comes and the sky's still lovely Dad beat me up again, I want you to hug me We gotta run away, bring clothes and money." 'Cause she knows she's good She's fed up of should She puts on her red hood and rides into the woods [HOOK] If I knew I'd live in shame Just to be near you I would do it all again I would do it all again If I knew I'd feel this pain Just to be near you I would do it all again I would do it all again When she went into the woods that day she was in for a big surprise A bunch of guys from 'round the way Drunk after a rave Spied them both with suitcases running away They'd gotten away Like hyenas fast upon them As if drunk sleazebags must guard her honor Some of them knew her cousin, so they grassed her properly To the family. What Daddy did could pass for horror She lost use of her right eye Eats through a straw Right leg in a plaster at the hospital ward Akin sneaks in to visit her with scars on his jaw From where Benaz's cousin's knuckles waged a war He cries, and he draws a little heart on the plaster Puts a kiss on her eye, tells her now it will heal faster She said "I told doctors that I happened to fall over It's funny you call me Smurf, now I'm blue all over Be strong, my love, and try not to cry And from on don't call me Smurf, you should call me Popeye." He says, "No more jokes. This mess must stop." Convinces her she has to get some help from the cops "I've tried twice when they beatin' me, they heard the screams But Mum says that we don't need police, they turn and leave" But Akin brought a constable with him So Benaz spills the beans in the hospital Sittin' there with her drip and the stitches But it's clear that after six minutes he thinks that she's fibbing Isn't really trusting his witness He says, "The nurse told me that you fell down the stairs Now you're changing your story And though I see that you're scared Your parents are crying It doesn't make sense what you said I can't put you in protection 'cause there's nothin' proven yet Try going to a women's shelter There isn't one nearby? It shut down? Well, sorry, I can't help ya Well, don't try and live with your fella If anyone bothers you over there, well You can just give us a bell, love But it seems to me like you just want a council house Stop wasting police time, please, that's all for now" And as PC Plod is leaving, her family sees him They creep in the ward silently seething Benaz can't control her breathing, knows it's open season now But she's too proud to plead with them Akin asks them to leave That they even came is hard to believe Squares up to her father and grits teeth Uncles and cousin, brothers are ready to rough him up But her mother steps forward, say "No, let's discuss it." "Come home, Benaz. I fought for you once And if you really want this man as your husband Then I'll trust him." Her father apologizes, tries touching her, mumbling His agony for her to move out the way, but she doesn't He says, "Akin, what I did is hard to forgive, I understand But if your heart is as big as she thinks it is Don't make her choose between you and her family." Her mom says, "It's alright, but my child, Benaz don't abandon me Stranded, she feels primeval attraction Her genes hanker for family Sees hope in the old man's defeat She wonders if her mother might collapse if she leaves Breathe deep, says she'll give it a try, at least Akin can't believe it, but he follows her lead Makes peace, shakes hands, an uncomfortable squeeze Benaz's one eye swells up in relief If justice is blind, hope looks with one eye (and leaps) [HOOK] If I knew I'd live in shame Just to be near you I would do it all again I would do it all again If I knew I'd feel this pain Just to be near you I would do it all again I would do it all again She waddles through the door on crutches Rushed in from hospital They promised her the wedding would come quick Dad says, "There's flowers and food to choose, come pick." Her heart throbs She half hops and half runs in But something doesn't quite fit "Why are the curtains shut, Ma, and why don't you sit?" There's an empty suitcase but the handles are ripped White cloth lines the inside, freshly stitched Akin was told to go wait at the mosque with the ring She's home alone, feels the walls closing in He said he'd call her when he gets there but her phone don't ring And in that moment, she knows, her dad planned the whole thing Akin got rushed by her cousins Bottled by the one she wouldn't marry Who wishes that she loved him He tried struggling But seven of them all punching him He bleeds 'til his blood runs thin Eyes shut, lights dim Benaz is on her own again Silence falls Reminds her of dawn Her heart blinks, Mum starts to cry Her mask slips, "How far can I help you, the way you behaved You asked for it." Dad just stares and broods Then he bends down, starts to undo the lace from his shoes Holds them between his fists like an improvised noose Benaz nods and then she lets a fire run loose Swings her crutch far She screams and chucks vase "Fuck you, Fuck your honor, what about my heart?" Her dad's on top of her now and he's blocking her arms He's stopping her from scratching and bottles her hard He's sitting on her leg as she gasps She won't give up 'til the last Legs broken, arms pinned, so she spits on the bastard Blood gathers in her face The pressure presses against The neck and Dad tightens it and mumbles a prayer Knuckles whiten The lace frays That windpipe tries to be brave, but Now not even love can save her Laces tighten around the neck A world darkens Cuts into her flesh As her arteries harden The sound of her mum screaming distorts the laughter The last thing she sees, the weeping face of her father Eyes close And her thoughts drift off as they do To the memory of her daddy tying her shoes By the school gates But now he dumps her dead in a suitcase Buries her in the garden with no mark on the youth's grave They call police, say she just disappeared They plead on T.V. and it's unsolved for years Akin is brain-damaged, sleeps rough on the streets He goes mad like Majnu, I know it's tough to believe But he sleeps on concrete and in the dark he grieves Although he doesn't know why, he can feel his heart bleed When he closes one eye, he can almost half see In his mind is something lost, but he'll never find peace Police find the body in the end They say they're sorry and forced marriage and honor killings must end People say the parents are thugs But they still fuck girls, then judge girls Say they should wear hijabs And soon enough, the cycle restarts So play this to your mates Based on a true story of Benaz Dedicated to her and a hundred other pieces of grass 'Til the end of forever, there are no lasts 'Cause in the corner of some English field Lies the true price of love [HOOK} If I knew I'd live in shame Just to be near you I would do it all again I would do it all again If I knew I'd feel this pain Just to be near you I would do it all again I would do it all again
