Danny, burnout and exhausted of being the basically only one who can fight ghosts but still gets villainized and hated by the people he saved, decides he's done.
Because he's 14 he runs to another city, one where his parents and GIW cannot willy dilly do whatever they want. Yes, he runs to Gotham. Without telling anyone.
At Gotham, he ultilizes his intelligence in making fake ID and studies at a normal if a bit run down Gotham high school, not the fancy one where Tim or Damian is studying because 1) he's trying to lay low and 2) he hates the rich. He uses an old abadoned fire station as his home.
It's all fine and dandy. He doesn't need to intervene much since there are plenty of vigilantes in this city and he's free to just...focus. On himself, his education.
Meanwhile, Amity Park is literally and metaphorically under fire with his absence.

Not my Circus
A/N: I hate my brain and it's suckish timing...
Danny was a circus kid. He knew that, and so did his parents. Well, the once that took him in when he was five. He knew he had a loving family before the Fentons. Yet he doesn't know himself why he never put in more effort to return to them. No, wait, he had an idea what his five years old mind could have been thinking.
If Freakshow and his mockery of a circus had never shown up in Amity. Then Danny might have pushed the thought of his original family to the side forever. He had been a foolish kid back then, reckless and tempramental, unlike his older brother. He had tried to follow into his parents' and brother's footsteps, but he wasn't as graceful or acrobatic as they were. It was irony really with how much he liked flying and doing tricks in the air now. But still he remembered having a lot of frustrated fights with his brother about his inability to be like them.
When he got reminded he started to do a bit of a more serious research again and when he found out about his originals parents death half a year after he was first declared missing from the circus as well as his older brothers having gotten adopted too, he had dropped it all again. Pushing all of that back into the deepest depths of his mind again. His older brother was doing well. There was no need for him, for Danny.
That went well until Jazz went to university in Gotham and convinced him to go there to collage too, when he sort of forcefully retired from being a teen hero. It went well for a couple of years until his mid twenties.
Because despite Gotham being a city way bigger than Amity, there were still chances of you running into certain people.
The moment he entered the coffee shop and saw the others face, everything he had pushed aside in his mind came right back to the forefront of his mind.
How he foolishly trained in acrobatics behind his families back after another fight while they were moving towns and fell off the wagon.
How he had felt like he enjoyed not feeling presured to be like them and didn't put too much effort into returning to them when he was with the Fenton as well as thinking that his elder brother was probably happier without a stubborn little brother.
How when he looked them up he dropped it just as fast when he learned about their deaths and his elder brothers adoption.
He blinked wide-eyed at the man that stood before him a teen next to him while he held two cups of coffees. He, too, was staring at Danny frozen.
Now Danny had several options of how to handle the situation. And he most likely didn't choose the best one at first as usual. Because what he did in response at seeing Richard 'Dick' Grayson was to turn tail and run even using is invisibility and intangiblity.
What Danny didn't know was that Dick's first, thought, was someone cloned him and not that his missing brother from his days before the Waynes was back.
Thus a game of mouse was started...

Hero EMT/Field Medic Danny Au
Like maybe due to all his scraps and bumps as Phantom, Danny ends up getting EMT and Field Medic training or starts studying to be one. Cause hey this will be helpful later he just knows it. Plus he could go into medical engineering (or what ever the field is called that invents medical devices) with hi Fenton Mad Scientist smarts and hyoerfocusing on healing others instead of hunting Ghosts.
A few decades or centuries down the line, Danny is now ghost king and retired from Phantom. His advisors believe he needs a vacation. And ooh look what Clockwork found- a universe with heroes. So off he goes to DC universe.
Except, his core is demanding he help some way..but there are so many heroes. Perhaps instead of being a hero, he could help the heroes.
Que Danny slapping on domino mask, tying his hair back, grabbing his old modified Fenton field medic uniform and the Patented Fenton Medical Bag (which is like the Mary Poppins bag but for medical supplies). And h doesn't even bother going Ghost. He can use his powers in human form but he does so sparingly- like lifting a building off a trapped hero or civilian, icing a wound to stop the bleeding until h can get them some where safe and duplicating himself to help in disaster relief. Suddenly there are reports of a mysterious masked meta field medic showing up at big villain battles or the aftermath of another invasion and running disaster relief and helping civilian and hero alike. Many young heroes tell their mentors of a masked medic who helped patch them up. So on ad so forth.

DP x DC Writing Prompt: Watchtower Technician/Engineer Danny Fenton and Justice League member Dani Phantom
It's been a few years now since Danny Fenton had become the Ghost King. Since then, he's been working hard to maintain peaceful relations with the Living Realm and had found a system to keep his rouge's gallery from being too destructive while still satisfying their obsessions and such.
After that, he decided to semi-officially retire as a hero since he didn't need to protect Amity from his subjects anymore. Choosing to focus on balancing his human life and career, and his duties as the ruler of entire dimension of spirits.
While Danny knew he could never be an astronaut with his "condition", he was able to find a substitute that also managed to satisfy his protection obsession without needing to become a hero again.
Danny Fenton had chosen become an engineer/technician on the Justice League's Watchtower. Which, after a lengthy background check to make sure he wasn't joining as a cover for anything malicious, was ultimately given the green light since Zeta Tube transport was deemed much safer for his "condition".
Meanwhile, the Justice League had finally found a recruit they were interested in for the past few years now since information about him spread to the hero and supernatural communities. Namely, one 14 year old looking ghost named Danny Phantom. However when they did manage to finally track him down, they instead found what looked to be a now 14 year old ghost looking girl calling herself Dani Phantom who looked to be a match for their information on Phantom.
So cue the League coming to the (completely incorrect) conclusion that this must be the hero they're looking for (though he seemed to have become a she, so congrats to her) and don't say anything.
Basically shenanigans with retired Danny Fenton working on the watchtower in peace while Dani Phantom joins the Justice League after they mistake her for a transgender Danny Phantom.
I'm imagining this going in one of several different routes with some potential overlap.
- Both recognize a ghost is nearby (each other) but the League, upon realizing that Danny Fenton comes from a family of Ghost Hunters that span back to 1600s with Jack Fentonightingale, thus assuming it's best to keep Danny oblivious to Dani's existence but they can't keep each other oblivious forever.
- The Watchtower is under attack by some villains and Danny finds a heavily injured Dani among other heroes. As such Danny becomes angered enough to temporarily bring his old hero persona out of the closet (possibly going as far as showing his Ghost King power depending on the villain). Meanwhile the rest of the Justice League are losing their minds over the revelation of them working with the hero's cousin/daughter/clone instead of the original they thought they were working with this entire time.
- One of the supernaturally powerful JL members (John Constantine, Zatanna, Dr. Fate, Shazam, take your pick) recognize that the new employee radiates the same ghostly power as Dani, only stronger before recognizing him as the Ghost King.
- Dani and Danny meet and have their Spider-Man pointing meme moment before nigh-immediately realizing that the League have mistaken Dani for Danny. Thus they immediately realize after that realization they can use this to completely mess with them since they're still unaware.
Probably more ideas but I'll leave that for you to imagine.
I've seen Danny working on the watchtower, both as Fenton for a casual position and as Phantom as a League member. So why not both at the same time only it's Dani Phantom and not Danny.

When thinking on timelines with DC and Danny Phantom, I always figure Dick Grayson and Danny Fenton being around the same age makes sense. Like, that 90-2000s tech and culture, the formation of the Justice League and the Meta Acts? It would make sense to have a time period with no basis for such things when it concerns Danny not reaching out to other heroes or for the Anti-Ecto Acts being slipped into law. And it wouldn't be weird for Batman not to hear about all the ghostly happening of Amity Park when he would primarily be focused on Gotham (and somewhat the League).
It feels like a good set up for Danny being a great mentor for others based off his own struggles as a teen vigilante with no preparation or proper support. He can finally reach out to other heroes, lend his own experiences and power to a fight even if he does decide to start retiring from the vigilante scene.
Then you have Dick Grayson trying to strike out on his own, form his own identity, and I feel like Danny would be weirdly intuitive? He immediately clocks Dick as a teen vigilante and is just there for him in the ways he always wished someone had been for him.

Arkham psychiatrist Jazz and Arkham inmate Jason Todd
It started with Jazz helping the crime Lord Red Hood, and to the surprise of all the new Arkham psychiatrists, Jasmine Fenton was a actually Harleen Quinzel, who was successful. She didn't pull a Harley Quinn. But fixed the crime boss.
And as Jason was released, he was no longer mentally ill and healthy. Which he really was. He left Gotham. Not once looking back.
What Dick/Batman put him into Arkham! He won't return there.
In Amity Park
Jason moved into the Fenton household as Jason Fenton, husband of Jasmine Fenton. Who would have thought he would marry his psychiatrist in Arkham?
Well, he did, and he was no big brother. Jason to Danny and Dani, son-in-law of the mad scientist Jack and Maddie Fenton. And the BBQ champion of the neighborhood of Amity Park.
He retired from being a hero, villain, or crime boss!

So a very rare pair a Talia/Danny pairing. Years ago after Danny retired from being a hero he decided to follow Ellie/Dani's example to travel the world. While doing that he met Talia. Fenton men have a type. They date for awhile even long distance as Danny goes to college. One of the reasons for their break up is Talia's need for a blood child and Danny due to being half ghost is infertile. But other wise they break up amicably. They talk rarely and its mostly Danny giving Talia ghost advice nothing to deep. Years later during the Slide Wilson/Deathstroke coup Talia goes to Danny for help with hiding. By time Talia has come out of hiding Damian has a stepdad.
This is amazing I love it

Not The Blood Son
Damian is not Bruce Wayne's biological son. A fact that no one was aware of, not even Talia herself.
This was because Ra found the DNA of a being related to the Lazarus pits, and was willing to make a clone for further study; However, he lost the sample. On the other hand, Talia, who was trying to created a kid of her and her beloved used the wrong sample.
Talia never realized this due to Damian's resemblance to Bruce. When Damian got to the mansion, Bruce take Talia's word for it, of course, she ran some blood tests but the computer started crashing at that point, showing the result to be 'similar'. He decided to do new tests later, but that result was enough at the time.
Everything Damian was proud of: his heritage, his own as the only blood son, his right to be "Batman", was gone as soon as his mother revealed the truth. His father, of course, said that he was still his son regardless of blood but Damian was not happy with that.
He was supposed to be different from his brothers, he was supposed to be Batman, but if he wasn't... who was he? What was his true purpose? what was the right path to choose?
Determined to find a new purpose, Damian decided to search for his biological father. Something in which his family offered him support. The problem was that the only information they had came from Ra and one of his former business associates. A certain "Plasmius", Damian's father had no other description beyond "Related to the Lazarus pits"
Danny Fenton, finally out of the hero life, and living with his "cousin" in Amity (and the Infinite Realms) had no idea how much was about to change his quiet retirement life.

 Chapter 2
Lex stares down at his computer screen as he looks over the latest news about DALV Co.
Afterall, it's not that often that one of the guests at a Gala takes it upon themselves to save the day before any heroes show up.
Luthor was now interested in the very same young man that achieved this. Daniel Fenton, Vlad's Godson and the second youngest Co CEO next to Tim Drake-Wayne.
Even with a basic internet search on the boy there was plenty of information to find, both about his family and what connections they had.
Daniel's parents; Madeline and Jack Fenton. Doctors in both biology and engineering, working with the government, as well as the most well known pioneers in Ecto science, a very unique study.
They own a weapons workshop together and quite frankly put some of Gothams own mad scientists to shame with their inventions.
There is only one other child besides Daniel, who is quite a bright young lady named Jasmine Fenton, who’s currently working towards getting her degree in psychology.
Meanwhile Daniel Fenton has his own achievements that were not to be ignored.
He was on the fast track to becoming an astronaut in his early teens, only to have that dream crushed after an accident that left him wheelchair bound and his grades to temporarily suffer, yet he continued to push forward.
There was news articles about how Daniel risked his life to save an endangered species of gorilla, he had been seen at many protests fighting for the rights of metas and the meta adjacent, and with him now as Co CEO of DALV co he was incharge over and currently the main inventor of the technology being made and sold.
That last part is what caught Lex’s attention the most, especially since he was now a business partner with Vlad Master’s (much to his distaste), yet the man made very high quality technology that has proven him an asset for now.
So to find out it was the man’s Godson who was the one making the inventions provided something he desperately desired, a different person to make a deal with.
Because in all honesty, Vlad Masters, both as a business partner and a villain in arms, was just horrible to deal with.
Vlad at the best of the times was attention seeking or grumbling about not getting his way, maybe bragging about his achievements as mayor. But at his worst?
Luthar has seen that pompous dragon get very, very petty. somehow stealing others wealth, companies, even passion projects, just because he wanted to. And somehow, he always got away with it.
Yet at the last gala Lex got a glimpse into how much worse Masters could be. The entire night the man had been strangely territorial over his charge, much to the boy’s annoyance. Lex could have sworn he’d seen Vlad’s eyes go red when he was being held back from reaching his godson later into the night. His protectiveness was not like that of a parent’s, but rather a beast whose treasure was being messed with.
That in itself is worrisome, especially since it will affect Lex’s plans to become business partners with Daniel instead of his godfather. Add in the fact that Vlad is obviously a controlling narcissist… well, lex has always enjoyed a good challenge now and then. For now, all he has to do is schedule a meeting with the young Co CEO at a time Masters will be busy, and go from there.
Reaching for his phone Luthor dialed his secretary’s number as he smugly leaned back in his chair.
“Eve, can you get me Vlad Master’s schedule? I Have a meeting in mind.”
__________________________________________________________________________
Danny was busy tinkering away at his work desk, music playing from a small speaker as he hyper focused on his latest invention.
It was supposed to be an updated version of the phantom thermos, making it not just easier to capture ghosts, but allowing it much more space and durability as well as the ability to catch more than just ghosts.
He had long since retired the fenton thermos back to being a normal thermos for holding liquid, and maybe an emergency projectile if needed. He wanted a much more successful capture device and is slowly trying to move away from using Fenton works weapons all together.
By now all of team phantom made their own weapons and devices, both being much more ecto friendly as well as complementing their fighting style.
Danny still mostly used his powers and hand to hand combat to take down ghosts, but it’s still useful to have gadgets just in case he couldn't use his abilities.
Danny's mind starts to race with new ideas and possible upgrades to various inventions, including some exciting upgrades to his chair when a notification caught his eye, someone had entered the lab.
With a groan he puts his thermos away and dramatically flops further back into his chair just as whoever was planning to bother him approached….
Only to see a bald man in a suit raise an eyebrow as he kept a respectable distance.
Danny pulls his goggles up as he scans the man, he could have sworn he’d seen him before… oh right, the Gala Vlad dragged him to.
Turning his chair, Danny crosses his arms as he got a better view of the man, now remembering his name; Lex Luthor, one of Vlad’s newest business partners that was supposed to hash out plans with his Godfather.
Mr. Luthor relaxed as Danny gave him his full attention, he even gave out a small chuckle under his breath as he read the boy's shirt that said ‘I’m not a mourning person’.
Not so subtly he switched his chuckle to a fake clearing of his throat as he offered out his hand.
“You must be Daniel Fenton, I have to say you definitely made a name for yourself, especially after the previous Gala.” he kept a smug smile that he tried to hide as a genuine one.
Danny took the guy's hand and shook it firmly as he was trying to figure out what, exactly, he wanted.
“Yup that's me, though I prefer to be called Danny. Soo, who are you and what are you doing in my lab?”
“Straight to the point, I like it.” Mr. Luthor glanced over at Dann’s work bench before taking a much more relaxed slouched, “My name is Lex Luthor, and I’m here to offer a business partnership with you.”
This made Danny freeze up in surprise, because who the hell is crazy enough to make a business deal with a teenager? Lex Luthor, Apparently!
His face scrunched a bit as he leaned back in his chair, not fully believing that's what the man wanted, or at the very least it’s not as cut and dry as he’s making it sound. There has to be a catch here.
“Why? Aren't you already Vlad’s business partner? You're already working with us.”
Luthor nods as he walks around and explains his reasoning, “It’s true that i'm a partner of DALV co, but the details have yet to be fully hashed out, meaning I’m not quite a business partner with Mr. Master’s himself yet. And I’ll be honest here with you, I really don’t want to deal with him.”
Once more Danny was surprised, yet he started to relax when he heard Lex wasn’t as friendly with Vlad as he first thought.
“Really? That must be why he was trying suck up to you all night at the gala, I just assumed that was Vlad trying to flirt.”
Danny couldn’t help but burst out laughing as he saw Lex’s face scrunch up in disgust after hearing that.
“Noted, and I really hope it’s not the case. I’m already thinking less of him as is, only to have that bar lowered to a tripwire is the reason why I’d rather not deal with him.  Hence why I wanted to come in and make a deal with you instead, since you're less of a.. What's the proper word here?”
“Narcissistic parasite?”
Lex snapped his fingers and grinned, “yes that! At the very least it’s obvious who here actually runs the show when it comes to the technological department. So what do you say, ready to make your first legit big deal in the business world?” once more he offers out a hand.
Danny rolls his eyes as he crosses his arms, raising an eyebrow and staring at the looming man.
“Flattery will get you into many places, but I want to make a few things very clear; I don’t take deals unless I have control over the conditions. I’m not dumb enough to just say yes to someone who managed to get into my lab without Vlad trailing behind. So my rules or nothing.”
“Very well, tell me your conditions, I’ll get my lawyer to write up a contract once we both agree.” Luthor mimics Danny’s cross-armed possession as the teen brainstormed.
Danny looked down at his lap in thought as his fingers tapped on his arm rests before he quickly shot back his answer.
"If we are working together I want lab safety to be a top priority, meaning if I'm calling out something as unsafe you take it seriously. Next is schedules and restrictions.
I'm still in online school and want to hang out with my friends and family, so no last minute meetings unless I can join in online or barring guests from seeing me, obviously you can look into them to be sure they aren't a security risk but beyond that they are welcomed.
Lastly, as long as it's not in the lab I can eat whenever and wherever I want, I'm of course putting it on Vlad's tab if it's anything expensive.
Sound like a fair deal?"
Lex humed for a moment as he tapped his chin before agreeing with a small nod.
"I'll agree to those terms if you agree to mine.
I'll go along with the lab safety protocol as long as you don't question what purpose we are collaborating on, well as long as it doesn't violate the rule of course.
Second is we have to work together at my labs in Matroplas, and I'm okay with meeting online if there is a time crunch or it's trivial, guests will need to be checked by security to be sure they aren't smuggling anything in or out.
Lastly for the budget, whenever we are collaborating it's a 50/50 split unless we agree on otherwise.
So what do you say, we got a deal?"
Lex holds out his hand for Danny to shake, which he does with no hesitation.
"Deal."
"Excellent! Now, how about we get some lunch while we work out travel plans" Luther claps his hands as he leads the way.
"Sure, as long as it's on yours or Vlad's dime I don't care." Danny follows after, placing the security protocol on as they leave.
As they ride the elevator down Danny thinks, Lex may be a nutty billionaire, but he’s not as bad as the fruitloop…
He’s a cheerio.

There is this DP hero au that has been floating my head for awhile that is pretty detached from DP but I find it cool so I am going to ramble about it to myself.
Basically, there is a school for heroes and while it is a very selective and secretive program, it host a camp during the summer for anyone who wants to be a hero, but you have to get recommendation from a hero.
Since Valerie’s dad works at Axion, he and Valarie the only two that are allowed to leave Amity (excluding when the Fentons go to visit Vlad). One of these work exertions, Valerie’s dad was helping out with some security and a villain attacked and tried to steal some tech. Some heroes quickly made their way to the lab only to find, Valerie had already dealt with the villain. Seeing her skill, the heroes gave her a recommendation to go to the summer camp and she had been going ever since.
Fast forward a few years, Valerie finds out Danny is Danny Phantom and joins the trio in fighting ghosts. However, as the summer is approaching, Valerie finds out that since she has been working with the heroes so much and has been considered very trust worthy, she is allowed to recommend one person to go to the summer camp.
Valerie takes this information to the group, who is surprised that heroes actually exist, and after a lot of thinking decided that it would probably be best if Danny went with her.
So when the summer finally arrives, Danny and Val head travel to the summer camp and meet all the other characters.
Here the show finally begins(my head has been formatting this world as a tv show, kinda like my hero or Owl house).
Instead of Danny being the protagonist, it is another person, a kid who was once saved by a hero and now wants to do the same. Danny will be the antagonist and the protagonists foil, a kid who didn’t get to choose being a hero and while both of them are on the same side, they have completely different ideologies regarding authority and government, the protag’s being that authority often times does want to help and if it doesn’t it’s your job to get involved and change it, come from their experience with heroes, and Danny’s being that authority doesn’t have your best interest in mind and you should just throw the whole thing out, coming from his experience with the GIW.
There is a good hand full of characters, kinda in the same vain as Assassination Classroom, and the ones I have made so far are the protag, a kid who specializes in demons and believes ghost exist but no one believes him, a teacher who is an ex-hero who retired after sustaining an injury that left him with a permanent limp, a teacher who is a veteran hero who had been in services for the same amount of time as ex-hero, an old nurse who's tired of kids hiding their injuries, and Valerie's and Danny roommates, Val's is a girl who currently questioning her sexuality and Danny's is a guy who can sleep through the loudest of explosions.
In the rest of the world, ghosts aren't thought to be real and don't really show up often. This is because there isn't enough ectoplasm to sustain them outside of Amity and the GIW have hidden any evidence of there existence. So Danny has to hide his powers from everyone except Valerie, which he does but he still give off a cryptic vibe and does and knows things that he probably shouldn't do or know. This has resulted in everyone thinking Danny has been possessed by a demon or became demonic due to the accident that happened to him.
I think I'll start writing the synopsis from some episodes later on but for know have the files on Danny (Danny design is insipired by @nicktoonsunite)

Danny Kidnaps Damian (not actually) by thebritishspider :

If you're going to summon an all powerful entity at least do it right. A sandwich or something would be nice. He still wouldn't do their bidding anyway but it's the thought that counts. The one time he mentioned this to the league they offered him a child. Well. If they're offering Danny's gonna get the kid out of there. I mean really. Who in their right mind would offer him a child without laying out parameters. It was insulting really.
Or The League summons Danny, offer Damien as a sacrifice, Danny goes "All right then" and takes Damian. "Do you got another place to go kid?" "My father is Bruce Wayne" "Lol, wacky. I'll drop you off with him then." Danny sticks around because the Waynes are pretty cool, and Damian is very clingy.

Aizawa uses Erasure on Danny but he just splits in two, Fenton and Phantom, like in the Identity Crisis episode. Sorry, plot vomit again
Once they're split, Aizawa's quirk works normally on both of them, but Phantom doesn't have a second form to change into. So it doesn't effect his appearance/give away his identity. And he's more ghost-like post-split. He doesn't eat, sleep, breath. (No pulse, just justice)
Queue confusion cause now everyone thinks they're supposed to be two separate people.
They think Danny was being possessed by Phantom.
I kind of think it would be fun if their powerset was more connected than it was in the show. Like: Phantom's using intangibility, so Fenton can't. And goddamnit, Phantom, that's the only power Danny registered for a quirk. He can't use anything else in front of the teachers.
Fenton is taken into protective custody by Aizawa, and ultimately enrolled in UA's hero track
With only Intangibilty registered as his quirk.
Aizawa takes Fenton in pretty quickly after the split. Phantom is considered a villain. And the pros think Danny needs protection from him. But fresh from the split, he notices a lot of things wrong with the teenager in his care. His reactions to everything seem pretty strange. Some things he should react to, don't make him upset.
So there's still a personality split.
Phantom is considered a villain
(Unfortunately, Fenton got his love of astronomy, but he knows nothing about space. Phantom's the one with all the facts and could care less. Danny didn't know he could be this annoying. In UA, after Danny admits how much he loves space. Izuku tries to bond with him about it. It doesn't go well. He thought he'd just bring it up and let Danny rant at him like he wishes people would let him do. But Izuku ends up info dumping more. Some of the facts he dumps about end up being inaccurate, cause he's a hero nerd, not a space nerd. But Danny can't explain it right to correct him. He just knows it's wrong.)
The personality split should be a little more subtle in this au than in the show. So, kinda crack taken seriously, I guess. When bnha characters finally meet both halves, it's like there's a sense of deja vu. The two are similar, but different at the same time.
Like Danny's need to protect, for example. Phantom's still the more heroic between the two of them. But both halves feel a sense of duty and responsibility.
Fenton is the one who embodies Danny's self-preservation. He gets separated from Phantom, and makes every decision he can to keep them both safe and not arrested until they can fix the disconnect caused by Aizawa's quirk.
Phantom on the other hand, has no sense (of self-preservation.) He throws himself into vigilantism without a care to the consequences he could face. And this leaves Fenton scrambling to pull some string somewhere in the background that'll get Phantom away from the heroes, or keep the heroes distracted until he can trap Phantom in the thermos.
Fenton doesn't feel the same duty to protect other people that he did before. Meaning he will pull some reckless stunts to lure heroes away, or to lure Phantom somewhere so he can trap him. And actually fix this.
So Phantom's assumed to be the villain, but Fenton is the morally ambiguous one between the two of them.
Fenton protects himself (and by extension, Phantom) while Phantom protects everyone, except himself (including Fenton. Fenton is the one person Phantom won't go out of his way to protect. He's the loophole in Phantom's obsession. Which doesn't help the misconception that he's a villain who's targeting Fenton)
Aizawa is proud of Fenton's self-preservation skills. The student who's most likely to survive and potentially retire from hero work. Or at least, that's the starting point of his view of Daniel James Fenton. He gets around to the idea that Fenton, like some students he could mention, might be pursuing hero work for the wrong reasons.
No one in UA knew what to make of the new exchange student.
On the surface level, he seemed like a perfectly average, normal kid with a lucky quirk. Bakugou fumed when he heard the new guy had a quirk that mimicked one of UA's Big 3. Intangibility.
Danny's skills with it weren't as finely polished as Mirio's...
But at the same time, Danny's intangibility didn't have the same drawbacks as Mirio's did. Whether or not that was a good thing was still up in the air. Mirio did find ways to turn his weaknesses into strengths in his time at UA. And he would make a first-class hero when he graduated.
Maybe it wasn't completely fair. But most people couldn't help but think this kid would show up and show out in ways that were just as impressive.
No one knew exactly what kind of trouble the new kid was in. But the idea that he was in some kind of trouble was obvious in how closely he was watched by the teachers.
Izuku, fresh out of the Hosu Incident, just wants to help the transfer student being hunted down by a villain. He knows he's not supposed to get involved. He's not even supposed to know how seriously this guy was in trouble. But how is he supposed to just stand aside? The guy absolutely refuses to so much as acknowledge he's being targeted. And he refuses to follow any of the safety measures their teachers put in place. He sneaks away constantly. Izuku doesn't think he's spent so much as one full night in his dorm room.
He has a sick feeling in his stomach that Fenton's rejecting any help from heroes to solve his problem alone. As a vigilante.
Just like Iida.
Fenton and Phantom still merge back into one person at the end, but before they do, Phantom will be tempted when the League shows up. Particularly when the offer to make Phantom a body, his own body (a Nomu, unbeknownst to him) is set in front of him.
This is especially tempting considering how reckless Fenton is with other people. Phantom starts getting the idea that Fenton is his dark side, and he's a better hero when they're separated. (This would contrast Aizawa, who's goal is to raise up good heroes with good self-preservation instincts. So self-preservation being a necessary skillset for young heroes would be a big theme here)
(Though, I'm kinda split on the idea of them merging back together, or saying they grow into their own people and Aizawa adopts twins. On the other hand, I like the idea of using the Phantom/Fenton split as a device to explore Danny's character, aka trauma boy. Danny has a whole host of self-esteem issues. And post-split that presents as a deep dislike of his counterpart. On both sides of the split. So, kind of a journey of self-love/learning to love the parts of himself he hates kind of thing)
Maybe Fenton even gets a little bit involved with the GIW in this au. So, they'd exist in bnha. Whether they followed Danny there or ghosts do actually exist in bnha, I'm not sure yet.
He doesn't join them. But in the same way that Phantom doesn't join the League. Danny doesn't set off the GIW's sensors unless he uses their powers. And after failing to catch Phantom for so long, he gets the idea that he needs better ghost hunting equipment.
So, his actions kind of mirror Phantom's in a way.
Phantom wants his own body to make his separation from Fenton permanent. And he's tempted with help from the League. Danny's primary goal is to find Phantom so they can merge back into one person. And he needs access to equipment the GIW has.
So I guess that would make this another "stranded in the bnha verse" kind of au. Starting to feel a little one track minded about that 😬 oops.
I like the drama of Phantom pursuing his humanity in any way but merging with his human half again. While Fenton just wants to go back to being one person.
There would probably be a scene where Danny uses cryonkineses against Endeavor in a way that leaves the man hospitalized. It's the first time Fenton does something to protect someone else. And he does it because he knows Todoroki, and knows all the trauma Todoroki has because of his father.
Phantom's never met Todoroki though. All he sees is Fenton going overboard against a pro-hero. And this would probably be the scene that cements Fenton as Phantom's darkside, in Phantom's mind. And out Fenton as someone with multiple quirks, to Aizawa and class 1-A.
If we go with the idea that Fenton and Phantom remain separated in the end, that would probably also mark the point where they start growing apart/into distinct individuals.

Danny Phantom (and technically optional crossover) Prompt
Imagine, if you will, a not-aging Danny Fenton. There’s about a dozen ways to do this, but in this case—Danny still has a human lifespan, he just looks human (though, I won’t argue against any immortal Dannys). As Fenton, he’s just stuck at fourteen. Phantom, being a ghost whose appearance is based on what he sees himself as, does look older. By this point, he’s probably retired from superheroics—I just find unphased and jaded 18 year old Danny to be hilarious. So, he’s just like ‘I wanna go to college’.
So he does. He just. Always looks 14. His hair grows, he can build muscle, and he can definitely have dark eyes—but otherwise? Short ass 14 year old. He constantly has to prove that yes, he’s the real Danny Fenton, and no, this is not a scam. He eventually has to get meta-specific paperwork filled out—no need for the genetic test if the power is fairly obvious. (Of course, it’s possible to do this AU as not crossover, but then you’ll have to do the legwork of making it less odd that someone has superpowers, and whether that means everyone knows he’s Phantom, which might change some of the issues. It also doesn’t have to be DC, for instance, you could use Marvel or even My Hero Academia—ultimately, up to the writer.)
Anyways, he gets his degree(s), enters the workforce, and by the Ancients is it hard to be taken seriously. Even people who see his paperwork and know for a fact he’s a full fledged adult are just like, aw, poor kid, can’t even reach the top cabinets without stretching or climbing. So, while he could just keep being the most qualified 14-looking-adult, he’s quickly getting sick of it. He can’t even be a school teacher, none of his students will take him seriously! Not even the younger ones, cause even the other teachers aren’t respecting him.
There are about… three options available to him, up to whoever wants to pick up this sort of prompt.
1-he gets into acting or modeling. Or perhaps, stunt acting. And everyone is just a bit unnerved about how absolutely none of the nonsense seems to get to him, and he’s just… a little *too* bendy sometimes. He’d make a great scare actor, if he wasn’t terrible at scaring people.
2-he goes into the work force as Phantom in a cheap wig and terrible contacts. Half the time, he forgets at least one contact. Cue mystery of who the hell this guy is, because, for ONCE, someone actually paid attention to the paperwork and knows that he DOESN’T look like THAT.
3-he tries to get work in a slightly more remote position, where his colleagues are few to none. Of course, that is, until some hero or another such professional has to meet him in person, and gets one hell of a shock about who their expert on the computer has been all this time.
There’s of course the undercurrent of Danny’s experiences as a teen hero, so sometimes absolutely wild situations show up, and his stories are like, super weird. He thinks at least SOME of his experiences must be universal, and they’re… really, really not. The outlandish stories don’t help the whole ‘not taken serious’ thing, but then they turn out to be true. Bonus points to rogues or ghosts showing up to say hi and everyone is like WAS THAT A FUCKING DRAGON?! And Danny’s just like ‘yeah she was a beauty pageant coordinator in my hometown, we kept in touch. I helped put her brother in jail’. As if that did NOT just raise more questions than before.
Of course, use or don’t use what you want (such as, he does keep a public-ish position, or he just goes full villain to prove a point, or even somehow starts working undercover at schools and summer camps for xyz reasons, whether or not the Justice League finds him, what his degree(s) weee even in, etc etc), I just think that Forever Teen Danny stories are interesting.
Basically… it’s reverse Shazam, haha.

Hi. It's been a bit I guess. Well I've been busy with several IRL things. But. I've been also busy partaking in the @patrol-partners-batphandom-2023 event with my wonderfuly co-author Zia (@theredshirtsarecoming) and this is the result.
Summary:
Danny Fenton is just your average big city paramedic living in one of the most dangerous cities there is: Gotham. Or is he? What most people don't know is he is a retired superhero from the small town of Amity Park known as Phantom. After the burn out that comes from being a lone teenage hero and a difficult reveal to his parents he decides he needs to get away. And what better city than Gotham for a man who loves to help in medical crises. Dick Grayson: detective by day, superhero by night. Well that's what he was until the reality of working for the Bludhaven police department set in and his depression took over. Now he's quit his day job and works for his adoptive father's charitable organization. But that doesn't stop him from continuing his superhero work as the one and only Nightwing. But when these two soulmates meet on a rooftop at night and their timers run out, happily ever after isn’t as easily achieved as one might think.
Chapter 1 and 2 are out already, and it will get updated every 2 days until we run out of chapters and then as they finish.

For personal preference and less complications let's say no anti-ecto acts, no Ghost King!Danny. Maybe "The GIW were never legitimate government officials" as a treat. Danny is just Some Guy who used to be a small time her and falls under the Meta Protection Acts. (Because I find the "no Danny you're not actually "just some guy" AUs very amusing.)
He CAN make his own portals now but it takes up so much energy it's not worth it most of the time. Thus his personal man-made portal in his home lab. Which DOES follow lab safety unlike his parents. I love gremlin Danny but let's see "actively avoids being like his parents" Danny more please. Plus sometimes he forgets to USE the powers that make lab safety superfluous and he's not gonna risk a guest by lacking the necessary precautions.
He's close enough to Gotham and Bludhaven for the ambient ectoplasm he needed to start up his portal and to fall under Bat-family jurisdiction without constantly having his work put at risk by rogue attacks. The Bats' numbers and competence means he won't be tempted to come out of retirement plus he trusts the vigilantes Lady Gotham likes enough to bless with extra luck and better perception skills.
Your choice of non-Bat JLA affiliate ends up teaming up with Justice League Dark for something that turned out to fall more under JLD's jurisdiction than theirs. But JLD needs a special artifact for a ritual to do what's needed. An artifact kept in the Infinite Realms. Cue research because idk HOW else they'd know about Danny's portal. Cue deciding if they take or ask for permission to use the Fenton parents' portal Amity Park could become a hot spot again and they don't want to risk that with Phantom MIA.
So they pick Danny's. And really, it's kinda concerning the son of the mad scientists who instigated Amity Park's ghost problem even HAS a portal, why does he think he needs one? (For visits to his ghostly friends or Sam & Tucker without visiting his parents.) And so with 'it's for the greater good, really. He'll probably thank us later.' mindsets the deed is done with little further thought.
Later that same day, Danny gets home, and goes downstairs to check on or work more on a private project only to find the hole in his wall. Does he have damage done to his home somewhere? Did portals and some other magic make a clean job of it? Let's say dealer's choice. For argument's sake and to make him a little more determined let's say even with portals to get the JLD in & out unnoticed nobody there had a method of removing the portal neatly so there IS damage in the lab for sure.
Gremlin!Danny or Feral!Danny would cause chaos taking care of it himself. Right now Danny is just confused and annoyed, with his pettiness and mischief dormant as they ever are. Just looking at the mess leaves him exhausted before he actively think through everything he now has to do to deal with the aftermath of the robbery, and he's still determined to keep his retirement intact. So he does the normal thing, something most people the JLA thinks could be trouble (and those who are used to getting robbed by heroes) wouldn't bother doing. He calls the cops.
Once the local police division/' officer sent to question him and investigate the case has the full picture, they wince. "Around here your most likely bet is a Gotham rogue unless it's not a local job. I'll be honest with you, from what little I have to go on it's almost definitely above my pay grade."
Do the cops call in the bats? Or refer him to a hero team's help request forum or phone line?
If it's a team instead of the bats is it the Justice League or another team like the Titans?
How long does it take whoever he contacts to figure out what happened? How do they react? How do the JLA & JLD members involved react?
Is the portal given back to Danny or does he have to make a new one? Does he just start making a new one anyway in the time the investigation takes? If the League keeps the portal do they listen to him about maintenance requirements and safety precautions?
Bonus: when Batman finds out he is NOT happy with his friends and colleagues.
Bonus bonus: a dash of dead on main or Danny Fenton/Dick Grayson.
Where is my Portal?!
So! Heroes have a bad habit of stealing Technology when they need it.
The Flash usually stole from Star Labs or any of the dozens of smaller Labs in Central City. Batman was suspected to steal Tech from Wayne Enterprises to build his gadgets. Even Superman stole from Lexcorp every once in a while, although that was more understandable considering their history.
Heroes, despite their main job being to stop people from stealing, were not exactly paragons of The Law. They committed crimes on occasion to stop Villains, and most people just agreed to ignore the tiny crimes every now and then.
Now the Big Crimes, that was a different story. Taking the big important pieces of Tech from these Labs was definitely liable to get people made at them.
All this to say, Danny was not amused when he walked into his Personal Lab one morning only to find his Whole-Ass Portal missing from it's spot in the Wall.

Note
This comes from an idea that most of the kids in Casper High school have parents or close family that are not on the right side of the law, either just regular criminals, high ranking goons that retired or former villains.
Amity Park was first founded by outlaws, criminals and misfits that didn't fit regular society. Because of this the city charter is very lax on laws and what is considered unlawful. Most everyone who lives in town has some tie to criminal activity. It's actually a safe haven and has very strict laws about extraditing anyone out of their county. The school even ties in crime into their regular classes. Like art class is about how to do art and document forgery, Automotive class teaches how to hotwire a car and take it apart, Drivers ed comes with extra hours on how to perform a car chase or be a get away driver, Drama class has a unit on grifting, and Math ties in financial crimes like money laundering. No one is forcing the kids to become criminals they are just given the tools if that is the path they want to take.
Danny as Phantom being called a menace is actually a good thing because Amity Park does not want heroes within their borders. Also Danny's parents know that Phantom is him (how could they not when he first started he didn't do a good job hiding his personality and other traits). They are just acting like those big cats that let their cubs practice sneaking up on them. Using experience as a teaching method. Also they are waiting for him to be comfortable enough to come to them with the truth.
Also the Amity City council don't like the GIW (government) being in there city. So I see them asking the Fentons (because they know how chaotic the pair are) to keep an eye on the GIW and to also keep them busy with ghosts so they won't dig further into the other aspects of the criminal activity going on. Just until they can figure how to throw them out without raising suspicions.
