love you to the moon and to saturn
This started out as a kid!fic because of @thedeathdeelers talking about a juke baby in this post. It did not end up there. It’s much more of a character study I think. In fact this is roughly 2k and 1.5k happen before Julie ever gets pregnant. Idk what to tell you.
I might try this again sometime and actually write something about the kid, for tonight though, this is all I have.
That electricity he felt the first time he played the guitar is back, but stronger than ever. He can feel it pulsing under his skin when he looks at Julie. She turns to smile at him and he feels like floating. He just might have been wrong about what being in love feels like.
or: the three times Luke fell in love.
Luke finds the love of his life at age 11. His parents buy him a guitar for music classes in school and there’s no looking back. He learns the chords the instructor teaches him with the kind of determination and focus that his parents have never seen on him. The boy that can never focus on anything for more than ten minutes suddenly spends hours sitting in a corner and trying again, and again, and again until he can place his fingers exactly the way he should, switching between the chords faster and faster.
The day he finally plays the first melody is burned into his memory for the rest of his life. The feeling of pure joy cursing through his veins is something unlike anything he ever experienced. There’s always the feeling of electricity under his skin, but with his hands on the guitar, it rushes into his heart and makes him feel alive in a way nothing has ever done before.
He goes home that day, his fingers bleeding from the strings, and tells his mother he found the love of his life. Emily yells at him until her voice gives out. It’s their first fight of many.
He dies only six short years later and in his final moments he’s glad to have found love, even with how short his life was, because how could something ever surpass the feeling he got when he had his guitar and a song?
His stomach is cramping, tears are rolling down his cheeks and he is happy he’d gotten to experience the thrill of being on stage, the feeling of people singing his lyrics back to him. How could something have ever made him feel more?
He gets a second shot at life, or at least something close to it, when they tumble from the black room into their studio. Technically the studio is the same, the changes are slight, but noticeable. The plants all over the space, the chairs on the ceiling, their instruments missing and the cute girl register in his mind, but he doesn’t really care. He is back here by some magic and he is going to use his chance. When Julie tells them that it hasn’t been an hour but 25 years, he does falter for a moment. Why would the universe not only give them a second chance, but why 25 years later?
Not soon after he finds out they can still play and people can hear it and all the questions go out the window. What does it matter why he is here? What does it matter if he isn’t actually alive, when he can still do the thing he loves most?
The next morning he hears Julie sing and something in the back of his mind tells him that he was wrong. Maybe he wasn’t actually in love with music. Julie sings and his heart that has been silent ever since the black room, throbs once in his chest.
In the following days they spend an intimate moment in the kitchen, sing together on stage and write songs together and that little voice in the back of his mind gets louder and louder. It gets to the point where he can barely ignore it anymore.
She tells them how important the school dance is and Luke in all his rage and thirst for revenge ruins it. They go to Caleb’s club and miss her dance. He looks at Julie’s disappointed face when they finally make it to the school and the pain in his chest comes close to the night he died. He feels like the worst person in the universe.
Somehow, she forgives them. He’s not sure he deserves it. But he is slowly but surely realizing Julie Molina is a better person than him and so of course she forgives him for hurting her.
It’s when they are at Eats&Beats and they sing about knowing they can make it and closing their eyes when his heart throbs once more. Julie’s voice rings through the room and the words echo in his head. He looks at this girl that he’s only known for a couple days really, and he realizes that that little voice might have a point.
That electricity he felt the first time he played the guitar is back, but stronger than ever. He can feel it pulsing under his skin when he looks at Julie. She turns to smile at him and he feels like floating. He just might have been wrong about what being in love feels like.
Even though she has forgiven him, his little stunt with Caleb almost costs him dearly. The jolts keep getting worse and when he finally tells her about what’s happening, she looks at him with wide, sad eyes and it breaks his heart. He swears to himself that we will do everything in his power to make sure she nevers looks at him like that again.
They try to save themselves by performing at the Orpheum and it’s a n incredible rush to stand there on stage, to do what he never got to do while alive but the second they take their bow, he realizes that it didn’t work.
Julie finds them later that night, on the ground of the garage where they poofed to because they have nowhere else to go. She begs them to take Caleb up on his offer and on her face is that same look that he never wanted to see again. He pushes up on his feet and walks up to her and tells her that no music is worth making without her.
And really, while once upon a time he thought music was the love of his life, he now looks at this fiery, beautiful girl and knows, that while he no longer may be technically alive, he is much more in love with her than he ever was with music.
But then again, it is hard to say where music ends and Julie begins.
Julie throws herself at him and he doesn’t even think about it as his arms come up and catch her. It’s a couple moments before he notices that they’re touching. She pulls back a little, and it’s like a magnetic force that makes him follow her. If he could, he’d never let her go again.
It’s only later that night, that he realizes his heart is beating again.
He gets an actual second chance at life because the person he loves more than anything pulled him back from the death.
She kisses him the next night, on her porch underneath the starlight. It’s still fascinating to him that they can touch, so when she steps closer and takes his hand, his breath catches. She tugs softly on his hand, until he stumbles a step forward, right into her space. There’s only inches between them, and she has to tip her head back a little to look into his eyes. He never realized how much shorter she is.
She looks up at him with those wide brown eyes and smiles.
“I’m going to kiss you now.” She whispers softly and all Luke can do is nod. Julie pushes up on her tiptoes and then their lips are touching.
It’s not Luke’s first kiss, not by far. But it feels like it’s the first one that matters.
The sky is full of stars, but the brightest one is right here in his arms.
Afterwards everything happens so quickly that even looking back it feels like only moments passed.
Ray gets them set up with passports and social security numbers so they can go back to school. Andi Park calls again and they end up with a contract and a label. ‘Stand Tall’ gets released as a single and hits no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Half a year later, in the middle of Luke’s senior year they drop their first album. They spend the summer touring. Several more tours and albums follow and by the time they’re hit their early twenties all of them are set for life.
Julie and him get married one autumn afternoon. The ground is dappled in flickers of light from the sun passing through the colorful leaves. Julie is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. The simple white dress looks ethereal against her skin. Her curls tumble down her shoulders and Luke can’t believe she chose him.
He stumbles through his vows, cries at Julie’s and slides the ring on her finger with a ridiculous smile on his face. Alex, Reggie, Carlos and Flynn whoop when they kiss at the end of the ceremony. Ray is smiling, his cheeks wet from tears. It’s everything.
They buy a house a couple weeks later. It’s close to the shore, with a nice backyard for the puppy they adopt. Biscuit is a golden retriever and when she looks up at Luke in the shelter from where she’s hiding underneath a blanket, he knows he’s taking her home with them.
They get two rocking chairs for the porch where they spend their evenings with Luke’s acoustic and their shared songwriting notebook.
Julie tells him she is pregnant two years later. Luke cries.
Elena Rose is born in the middle of the night a couple days before christmas. Luke looks at the little bundle on Julie’s chest and forgets to breathe. His heart thumbs in his chest. His wife’s hair is pulled back in a messy bun and she is obviously exhausted. She looks the most beautiful he has ever seen her.
Slowly he steps closer. Elena is sleeping, her little fingers flexing against Julie’s skin. Her face is a little scrunched up and there’s a tiny tuft of dark hair on her head. He looks down at this living being he created and feels like his heart might burst. She is barely a person and still he loves her. He loves her so much it could span eternities and galaxies, life and death.
“She’s gorgeous.” He mutters.
“I know.” Julie smiles. “Come here.” She pats the bed beside her and Luke is all too willing to slide in next to her.
“I can’t believe we made her.” He says.
“You want to take her?” Julie asks.”I’m going to be falling asleep pretty soon.” She doesn’t even wait for his answer, instantly passing over the little body. He doesn’t even get the chance to hesitate before she’s in his arms. Julie drops her head on his shoulder as he settles Elena on his chest.
His daughter opens her eyes and looks up at him with wide blue eyes. His heart swells in his chest.
They get to take her home two days later and Luke puts her down in her crib. She’s wiggling a little, her hands and feet moving in her sleep.
He leans against the door frame to his daughters room and watches her sleep, still unable to believe that he brought this life into the world. There’s a melody in his head and he’s itching to write it down, but can’t bring himself to look away from her for even a minute.
Julie steps up next to him, leaning against his side.
“I never thought I could love anything more than you.” He admits quietly.”But she’s…”
Julie smiles. “I know what you mean.”
He presses a kiss to his wife’s temple. “Sometimes I can’t believe how I got so lucky. I died in 95 and here I am, 35 years later with more than I could have ever wished for.”
“The universe has been kind to us.” Julie agrees quietly.
And as he stands there, with his wife in his arms and his daughter asleep in her bed, he sends a thank you to whoever might be listening.

Prompts 17,18,20
"Oh, my god! Y/N, what happened to your face?!" Tammy exclaims, her face distraught at the sight of your cut up lip and bruised face as you walk through the door of her suburban home. She races forward and tenderly reaches out to touch the hot skin making you flinch away from her touch before muttering.
"I'm fine Tam, the guy got lucky and managed one good hit. I'm okay," you reassure her while gently removing her weary hands away from your face. She wrenches her hand free from your grasp and paces angrily in front of you while the others awkwardly filter into the house and head towards the kitchen area, leaving you with the angry blonde in the hallway.
“What the hell happened?!” She exclaims hands placed on her hips, a worrying frown in place.
"Look me, Lou, Deb and Daph were out in a bar and some guys tried hitting on Debbie and Daphne, so Lou and I tried stepping in to get them to leave them alone. Turns out, some guys don't like being told to back off by a pair of "girls" and you know I bruise like a peach," you murmur, wincing slightly as the cut on your bottom lip rubs against your top lip as you speak.
"How could you be so irresponsible?!" She exasperated wearing a hole into the floor from her pacing. You watch as Tammy's big brown eyes scan every inch of you with worry making you squirm slightly under her tense gaze. Her eyes finally meet yours and soften at your lost puppy, doe-eyed look.
"Come on, let's get you seated in the living room and cleaned up, maybe get you some pain killers. Are you hurting elsewhere?" She asks softly, gently wrapping an arm around your waist, pulling you close. You bask in her warm embrace for a moment, loving the close contact before stepping away slightly realising your place.
She's married Y/N, get over yourself.
She frowns confused at your quick retreat but focuses on getting you seated and grabbing ice from the kitchen. You hear low voices arguing between one another from the kitchen area making you grin softly, knowing that Tammy is probably scolding Debbie and Lou for bringing you back in this state. ‘Ever the mother hen of the group’ you smile to yourself.
A few moments later Tammy renters the room, alone.
"Where are the other two? You haven't sent them to their rooms, have you?" You tease trying to ease the tension, it seems to work a little as a small smile spreads across her face making your heart flutter at the sight.
God, she's beautiful.
"No, I've sent them to the bottom step so they can think about what they've done.” She jokes before continuing “I’ve sent them home actually. I’m sure I can take care of you by myself," She teases back before taking a seat on the leg rest in front of you and making quick work at cleaning your cut lip. She gently daps at the dried-up blood making you wince causing her to hush you softly.
"You were big enough to get into a fight, so you can brave me cleaning your lip." She chastised.
"Hey! I didn't just get 'into a fight' Tam. He started it, I was just defending Daph- "
She laughs out loud humorlessly and shakes her head interrupting your defence.
"Why am I not surprised that as soon as Daphne bloody Kluger is in a spec of trouble you come running in like the knight in shining armour. That guy could have seriously hurt you Y/N." she mutters, finishing up her work. You quickly take hold of her wrist stopping her from continuing. You lean back enough to meet her eyes as she tries to avoid your gaze.
"What do you mean by that, Tam? You just expected me to let them hit on her or worse? And by the way, I was defending her and Debbie, not just her." you retort, suddenly feeling angry at her accusation. You stand up abruptly making Tammy mimic your stance, confused at your sudden change in mood.
"Why do you care so much Tam? One minute you act like you don't give a shit about me and then all of a sudden you're like this overbearing jealous lover which I'm sure your husband loves by the way.” You pause for a breath, unable to help the following words. “Speaking of, your deadbeat husband shouldn't you be out on date night or something?" You grumble all too aware of the late-night phone calls you have been receiving from the blonde lately, complaining about his lack of interest in her and the kids, always out later than needing to be with a mysterious brunette. You’d sit and listen to her worries while reassuring her through truthful subtle words while secretly biting your tongue from saying what you really think of the asshole and that she could do so much better. You, more specifically.
“Trust me Tammy he’d be an idiot to cheat on you, you’re the best thing that guy has apart from your two beautiful children.”
“Thanks, Y/N. I appreciate you staying up and listening to me moan on,”
“Not the usual moaning I like to hear at 2am but I guess since it’s you,” you teased one late night, while lying in your king-size bed alone wishing to have the woman currently on the phone in bed with you.
You're brought back from your thoughts by a loud scoff.
“Oh, please Y/N. Stop being such a child!” She reprimanded making you gape at her in shock, pointing a finger to your chest.
“Me?! I'm a child! You're the one who’s acting like a jealous girlfriend right now. I mean Daphne? Really Tammy?” You dumbfounded.
“Of course, Daphne! Ever since you joined the team last year she’s been onto you like a dog in heat, I’m surprised you haven’t slept with her yet with the way you two look at each other. And now look at you, all bruised up for some airheaded brunette.” She spats an ugly frown in place.
“Again, I’ll ask why do you care so much?! And before you call her an airhead, remember she’s your friend too, Tammy. Besides, you’re still over here pretending to play happy families with a guy who couldn’t care less about you. So before you go judging me for my relations, think about your own first.” You retaliate instantly regretting your remark as you watch her worry her top lip while folding her arms across her chest, guarding herself. A deafening silence falls across the living room for a moment before Tammy speaks again, her voice low and trembly.
“Of course, I care about you, trust me... I care so fucking much about you. If anything bad had happened to you tonight I… I would have never forgiven myself. I’m sorry for going at Daphne like that that was cruel of me. You mean so much to me Y/N, ever since we were introduced on that heist last year I knew there was something there between us that connected us, you know? You lit something inside of me that made me feel alive again. I haven’t felt like that since… for a long time.” Tammy rambles, stepping closer to you trying to reach for your hand making you step back needing the space.
“In case you have forgotten Tam, you're married and my single ass can do what the hell it wants but I choose not to go around sleeping with any woman especially my friends, Tam! Daphne and I are just friends nothing more nothing less.” You reassure, your voice trembling slightly feeling the truth boiling inside of you.
‘No woman compares to you,’ You secretly confess internally, huffing in frustration.
“Well, what if I don’t like those roles very much.” She whispers, her eyes filling with unushered tears and a small sad smile.
“What are you saying?” You ask dumbfounded.
“What I’m saying is, I’m sick of this pussyfooting around, these longing looks between us. I can’t stay in a loveless marriage anymore. Not when I’m so in love with you,” she cups your cheek. “Me and Hank, we… we’re getting a divorce Y/N, that’s why he isn’t here tonight. He moved out last week. I’m waiting on the papers,”
“Wait, say that again?” You demand quietly, needing to make sure you heard correctly. Your heart beats rapidly, hoping that you heard her right.
“Hank and I are getting a divor-”
“No, the other thing.” You rushed, needing to hear her say it again. A soft smile appears on her full lips.
“I’m in love with you Y/N. And if you’ll have me, I’d like to make something between us work. I don't care how long it takes, I… I just want you.” She vows.
Without a second thought, you launch forward just as she does. Lips clashing hard against one another as you cradle the sides of her head softly with both hands, wincing slightly from the aching pain on your bottom lip making her pull away slightly only for you to pull her closer needing to savour the moment. Her arms wrap tightly around your waist resting against your back. The feeling of those soft lips that taste of cherry chapstick makes your heart burst with love and passion for this wonderful human being that you’ve been secretly longing for all this time.
You both pull away simultaneously leaning your foreheads against one another as you both catch your breath, you laugh breathlessly finding this whole situation surreal.
“I can’t believe all this time and I-” Tammy hovers her slim finger against your lip carefully to hush you.
“Just promise me one thing?” She asks quietly.
“Anything,”
“Promise you won’t get into another fight like this again? I can’t live...not without you,” She teases towards the end but the seriousness behind those sparkling brown eyes speak differently, making you nod in acknowledgement placing a light kiss to her forehead.
“As long as I have you by my side Tam, you’ll never have to worry about that.” You promise.
With those secret love confessions said and done you seal that last promise with a kiss.

I love your works so much! Could I request a txt fanfic of Taehyun, kind of enemies to lovers where he accidentally ends up saying something hurtful but after seeing how sad the reader actually gets he just becomes all soft and comforting and maybe confesses?🥺 thank you!!
Hey, thanks for sending a request! This took me ages to write but I really hope you enjoy 😊
Can We Start Over
“Uh uh, no way! I’m not going with her.” Taehyun protests to Yeonjun, stomping his feet on the ground like the bratty child he is. Or well, you think he is anyway.
“Look. I can’t go cause I have too much work that needs to get done today. Just do me the favour and I’ll owe you, alright?” Yeonjun pleads, watching as Taehyun rolls his eyes and lets out a disgruntled sigh.
“Fine.” He caves in, turning his attention onto you. He glares as you sit on the sofa at the back of their practice room, minding your own business by tapping away on your phone.
“I haven’t got all day, let’s go.” Taehyun grumbles as he strides over to you.
Your gaze lifts away from your phone screen, wide, innocent eyes locking onto Taehyun’s frame. He looks so agitated just by the fact he has to socialise with you.
“Alright.” You comply as you stand up off the sofa, tucking your phone into the back pocket of your jeans before following behind as he walks ahead of you. “Bye guys, wish me luck!” You lightheartedly joke, waving to Yeonjun and Beomgyu as they momentarily pause their conversation to return the wave.
“So...” You awkwardly attempt to strike up a conversation, watching Taehyun’s irritated expression and seeing if it changes at all when you try to engage with him.
His head turns to look at you, expression unchanging as he shoots daggers in your direction. He’s clearly not in the mood. But it’s not like this is your fault. No, you’d only asked Yeonjun to accompany you to the doctors because you didn’t want to go alone. You had no idea that when he’d agreed it was out of the pure kindness of his heart and that he was double booking himself.
The waiting room is deadly silent, you and Taehyun being the only people present and it only unsettles you more that he is so cold towards you. You can feel the anxiety creeping up your body the longer it lasts.
When your name is called you stand up, brushing the palms of your hands down your jeans in an attempt to wipe away some of the clamminess and turn to look at Taehyun when he doesn’t make a move to stand with you.
“What. You need me to go in with you and hold your hand?” He snickers, his tone patronising as he raises a brow at you. You knew he would mock you but the doctors has always been a fear of yours. Ever since you were a child just the thought of going to the doctors had you on edge, and although you’re not really sure why, it’s one of the things that causes the most anxiety.
“Would you?” You timidly ask, vision falling to the floor when you hear Taehyun laugh harder. “You know what, forget it.” You mumble, walking away with tears pricking your eyes.
~
“How’d it go?” Yeonjun asks as soon as the front door opens and you walk through. You can tell he’s genuinely intrigued and cares about you, knowing that it’s a very daugnting thing for you to do. But Taehyun had soured your mood and you’re not interested in talking to anyone for a while.
Yeonjun shoots a quizzical look over to Soobin when you walk straight past them without so much as a glance. And instantly he knows that it’s got something to do with Taehyun.
“What did you do?” He flatly questions, his tone conveying how disappointed he is.
“She seriously wanted me to go in the doctors office with her. Can you believe that?” Taehyun laughs, still finding the whole situation amusing, unlike Yueonjun and Soobin who just stare him down, unimpressed with his attitude.
“Yeah, I can believe that!” Yeonjun raises his voice, fists clenched and teeth gritted as he becomes increasingly angry with the younger. “And I hope you did.” He glares at Taehyun, almost seeing red when Taehyun fails to answer.
“Seriously? You’re mad at me for doing you a favour. Just because I didn’t go into the office with (Y/N) doesn’t take away from the fact that I went with her.” Taehyun argues back. So he made you go alone, it’s not like it was a life or death situation.
“Do you even hear yourself Taehyun?” Soobin questions while he calms Yeonjun down.
“Oh I’m sorry, do you want me to go apologise to the spoilt little princess? Is that what you want? Cause it’s not gonna happen!” Taehyun continues to sass.
“Tae...” Soobin tries to cut in and stop his ranting.
“She always gets her own way! But you’re blind to it! Yeonjun go here with me, Soobin I wanna watch this movie, Kai I want to order pizza.” Taehyun mocks you in a whiny high pitched tone. His impersonation isn’t lighthearted and funny, it’s spiteful.
“Taehyun!” Soobin finally cuts him off, indicating for him to turn around.
“What, I— oh.” He begins, falling silent when he sees you stood in the doorway, lip quivering uncontrollably as your glossy eyes fail to hide the hurt.
As soon as you lock eyes with Taehyun’s you break, rushing out of their apartment to anywhere as far away from him as possible.
~
The moment Taehyun saw your expression he regretted his actions. The heartbreak in your eyes something that he can’t unsee.
“I messed up bad didn’t I?” Taehyun sighs as he rubs the palms of his hands down his face. HueningKai nods as he places the glass of water down on the table in front of him before settling on the sofa.
“Soobin said that Yeonjun has gone to make sure (Y/N)‘s ok, but I don’t expect that he’ll be talking to you for a while.” HueningKai informs. He’s the only one that is actually giving Taehyun the time of day, keeping him updated on the situation that he’s caused.
“That’s the least I deserve.” Taehyun mumbles, zoned out gaze locked onto the floor beneath his feet.
“Why do you hate her so much?” HueningKai breaks the silence that settles in. The question makes Taehyun visibly tense. He’d never realised that’s how it came across...
In all honesty Taehyun doesn’t hate you, he never has. He just finds it extremely entertaining to wind you up and he thought you found it funny too, considering you usually give just as good back. But today he took things too far, he was grumpy because he’d not had much sleep the previous night and was forced to go with you to the doctors. He’d taken his frustration out on you, even when you’d been too anxious to bite back.
“I don’t...” he mumbles deep in thought.
“Then show her that.” HueningKai encourages, patting his friend on the back.
~
“I’m gonna make him regret hurting you so much.” Yeonjun comforts you, his arm draped around your shoulder as your teary eyes peer up to meet his concerned gaze.
“You really don’t have to...” You sniffle, forcing a meek smile on your face.
“But Taehyun shouldn’t get away with treating you like this.” Yeonjun persuades, squeezing you in closer and shaking you a little to make you laugh.
“And he won’t. I just need some time.” You compromise, leaning your head on his shoulder and shutting your tired eyes.
“It’s funny, I always thought you two would end up together.” Your eyes shoot open, alert and freaked out. You and Taehyun? Together? Not in a million years.
“What on earth made you think that?” You blurt a little harshly, but it makes Yeonjun laugh none the less.
“I don’t know... it’s just, I see how you bounce off each other when you argue and I’ve just always thought that if you were to turn it around and work together instead, then maybe you would actually make a really good team.” He explains, watching your reactions closely as you pull away from his embrace enough to face him properly.
You’re not really too sure what to think or how to feel and initially the idea of you and Taehyun being together freaks you out. But, the more you let the idea sink in, the less repulsed you feel.
And the thought stays with you even after Yeonjun leaves to go back home, right up until you fall asleep. And in your dreams you find yourself imagining what it would be like to hold is hand and to feel his loving gaze on you... and to know what it would feel like to kiss him.
~
“Yeonjun at least tell me (Y/N)’s ok?” Taehyun begs, following Yeonjun around their dorm like a lost puppy. He knows that Yeonjun is bound to give in soon enough and stop freezing him out. But the longer it lasts the less hope Taehyun has of ever succeeding.
“She’s fine.” He grumpily mumbles, so quietly in fact that Taehyun barely catches what he says.
“Is she still mad at me?” He presses, taking the opportunity to find out as much information as he can while Yeonjun is actually talking to him.
“I don’t know Taehyun! If you want to find out that bad then why don’t you go ask her yourself.” Yeonjun spins around abruptly, catching Taehyun so off guard he almost crashes into him.
The resentful expression on Yeonjun’s face makes Taehyun take a few steps backwards, intimidated by the anger that’s radiating off of him.
“I just-”
“Feel guilty?” Yeonjun interrupts, his tone condescending. “That’s always the way... but just so you know, regret is stronger than gratitude.” Yeonjun continues when Taehyun doesn’t respond. He’s trying the get the message across to him that he only cares because he feels bad, because if Taehyun really does care about you then he will make the effort to make sure you are ok.
~
You’d decided to brave visiting the guys dorms, mostly because you have missed hanging out with everyone. But there is a secret underlying reason for your presence.
Ever since Yeonjun mentioned about you and Taehyun making a good couple you haven’t been able to shake the thought. It’s not like you’ve forgiven him for the way he has treated you, you’re just desperate to see him. Even if it is just in the form of subtle glances.
“I know what you’re doing.” HueningKai catches you off guard. He’d been observing the way you were constantly on the lookout, almost like you are waiting for something to happen... or to see someone in particular.
“What do you mean?” You play dumb, hoping he hasn’t really caught onto the fact you want to see Taehyun.
“If you really want to see him then what’s stopping you?” HueningKai leans in and keeps his voice hushed. He can tell you don’t want anyone else to know and he respects that choice.
“Well, I’m not entirely sure if I should... or if he would want to see me.” You whisper back.
“Trust me, he does.” HueningKai manages to respond before your attention is moved onto a knocking from behind you. “And that’s my queue to exit.” HueningKai speaks up as soon as he sees Taehyun standing in the doorway, standing from the sofa and making his way out of the room.
“I’m so sorry.” Taehyun immediately apologises the instant you are alone. You can tell he’s being sincere as he approaches you. “How I treated you was wrong and if I could go back in time and redo everything then I would.” He continues, his gaze not once moving from watching you.
“Please, you don’t need to say anything.” Taehyun quickly speaks up when he notices you’re about to respond. “I just wanted you to know how badly I feel about everything... and that I never once hated you.”
You aren’t sure how to respond. Of course you were still hurt by everything that’s happened but you know that sometimes it’s better to forgive and forget. Especially when you can tell that Taehyun’s apology has come from the heart. You can’t hide the smile on your face when you conclude to yourself that this is finally time for a fresh start between you. It’s what you’d been hoping for... it’s a sign that he cares.
“I don’t know what to say...” you beam, your grin so infectious that Taehyun can’t help but to reciprocate.
“All I need is one answer.” Taehyun pauses, continuing when you nod your head in encouragement. “Can we start over... as more than friends?”
The hopeful glimmer in his eyes makes your heart race and you swear you’ll never allow yourself to forget the elated grin the appears when you softly utter “yes” in responce.
You burst into a fit of giggles when Taehyun rushes over to you and picks you up, twirling you around in his arms.
“I promise to never hurt you again.” He whispers once you both recompose from your moment of joy, nuzzling his nose against yours affectionately.
And you can tell that he truly means every word.

Bottles
Summary: One day when going to check up on Logan, Patton spies bottles lining the logical side's room. Bottles of all various colors and sizes, Logan assures him that they are nothing, but coupled with Logan's odd recent behavior, is everything as it seems?
“Logan..what are these?”
It’s a calm Tuesday afternoon when Patton pops his head into Logan’s room, he had done so merely to ask the other if he wished to partake in a cute puzzle that Roman had just summoned for him. Truth be told, he had also come up here out of worry as well, the last thing that he wanted for Logan to be working himself to the bone, and the logical side hadn’t come out since breakfast.
However, upon looking inside he couldn’t help but to stop and look in awe, it is the first time that Patton has seen the inside of Logan’s room in some time, and yet despite the fact that it had been a really long while, the change of it still surprised him. Not everything looked different, the glow in the dark stars that Patton had given to Logan many Christmases ago was still stuck on the ceiling and walls. Logan still had his bookshelves put up full of all the books that both he and Thomas had read in the past, and even his Ravenclaw rug was there just as it had always been on the smooth wooden floors.
The only difference that really seemed to stick out was the bottles.
There were dozens of them, all dotting the shelves that Logan had up for years. Yellows, blues, reds, greens, and purples. Primary colors that Patton would have honestly never expected to see in Logan’s room, the logical side had a style, and when he liked his style Patton knew that he liked to stick to it. It was almost blasphemy for him to do anything but that, and yet there were the bottles that were up there as if they had always been up there. Several of them, now that he got a closer look at them had a fine layer of dust on them. They had been here for a while, so how hadn’t he noticed them?
Reaching forward Patton went to pick one of the dusty bottles up, it had a normal thick glass container only with a cork bottling in the strange substance inside.
“Don’t touch them!” Logan quickly snapped, his hand instantly wrapping around Patton’s wrist just as his fingers were about to graze the glass bottle, and the expression on Logan’s face held something that Patton hadn’t seen in...well ever.
Logan’s bottom lip was captured in between his teeth as the logical side chewed on it and his eyes stared back at Patton, just looking into them Patton say something in them, something that felt impossible to grasp as Logan’s eyes drifted away from the moral side’s face. Almost as if he felt ashamed by snapping at Patton in such a way, as he slowly unwrapped his fingers from around the moral side’s wrist leaving Patton to rub at where he had just been touched.
It was the oddest thing ever, but… Logan’s touch was icy cold.
“I apologize for my unwarranted suddenness, but these hold some of my experiments. They can become dangerous if tampered with, and I don’t wish for you to hurt yourself, Patton.” Logan explained, ignoring the way that the yellow bottle off to the side rocked faintly back and forth as he spoke. He was the only one, thankfully, who noticed it moving. “What was it that you interrupted my work for?”
It sounded a lot harsher when he said it like that, but it was too late now, and Logan didn’t give a single hint that his own words had bothered him.
Especially as Patton beamed at him, “You’re forgiven!” The moral side chirped at him the hand dropping from his wrist as he rocked back and forth on his heels like a child all hyped up on sugar. “Do you want to do a puzzle? Roman just summoned one that has a picture of puppies and kittens on it, you look like you could use a break after all.:”
Looking around himself, it suddenly seemed to have dawned on Logan that he was surrounded by his rough drafts of work that he had been working and working on throughout the day. Some even for things weeks in advance, even so though…
“I don’t think that I can pull myself away from my work now, perhaps at a later hour I may come down,” Logan suggested, ignoring the way that the indigo-colored bottle rocked on the shelf above his bed when Patton’s bright smile dimmed to a sad smile, not that Patton would ever admit that it was a sad smile at all. “How about...one more hour?” He instead offered, and in response to the beautiful and sublimely warm smile that was aimed at him and only him, the bright fluorescent pink bottle practically trembled on the shelf next to his collection of Doctor Who DVDs.
“That’s perfect!” Patton’s smile brightened at the promise, it was certainly more than he had expected to get from Logan, and an hour was nothing in compared to the hours he had figured he was going to have to wait. “I’ll make us some lunch while you’re working then.” And as if to tease Logan just a little bit more, Patton leaned in ruffling Logan’s neat slicked back hair. Releasing the curls that Logan so meticulously tried to constantly keep in place, but Patton liked it this way, it was adorable to see the curls flopping in Logan’s face. He wished that he could see Logan like this more often, but he knew that wishing for miracles when it came to Logan was like wishing for Roman to use a little less glitter when it came to anything. It wasn’t going to happen.
So ignoring the scoff from Logan as the logical side immediately went to straighten his hair, Patton turned darting from the room like the childish fifth grader who had just pulled the pigtails of the girl he liked. Slamming the door on his way out.
The bottle on the shelf closest to the door rocked almost mockingly in response to the sudden and rather violent action.
A bright yellow one, the same color as the sunflowers that Roman had once summoned on Patton’s birthday tipped, the curved bottom of the bottle no longer stable as it started to fall from the edge.
Panic and fear wasn’t normally something that Logan allowed himself to feel, but at that moment, with his messed up hair forgotten, caution was thrown to the wind. As he stumbled at first, jerking his body into action before he suddenly dove for the bottle watching it fall. As the seconds, at first, seemed all too slow before they suddenly sped up again, everything was happening way too fast now.
Especially as the bottle thumped against the end of his fingers propelling it away from his hand and into the wall, the moment it cracked Logan felt it rather than saw it. The moment it broke it felt like someone had shoved a javelin of feelings right into his chest, just to twist it around in order to make the experience as painful as he possibly could. His glasses fell off of his face when he landed although that was the last thing he cared around as he scrambled over, reaching for the bottle, even though he already knew what the end result was.
A long crack ran through the entirety of the bottle, and the bright color that was once been inside was now gone. To top it off, he ached, his chest ached like nothing he had ever felt before. The bottle tumbled from his numb hands and before Logan knew it, he was grasping at his chest, his mouth open as he gasped for air, only he couldn’t bring himself to make his lungs actually work. His mouth was open and when he opened his eyes again he saw the blurry surface of the floor as he stared blankly out, only it didn’t end there either. As his muscles twitched and spasmed, as if an electric shock had been forced through them at an impossibly high voltage.
It doesn’t hurt.
I don’t have feelings.
They didn’t hurt me.
I don’t feel lonesome for being left out.
Words are just words, so therefore what he said couldn’t hurt me.
I’m needed.
I’m wanted.
I’m necessary.
The one lie he hadn’t told himself was true, it hurt a hell of a lot more putting it all back in than it had putting those damned emotions and those lies in the bottles.

My breath caught in my throat at the intensity of Ivar’s gaze, he’d always been a determined person, but in my absence he’d become an irresistible force, all too used to getting his own way, and if that failed, making his own way. He was bound and determined to make my time here as difficult as possible, and, if it wasn’t for the efforts of his father and older brothers, would be succeeding. After a long, baleful glare he turned back around and left, his broad back retreating from my vision.
“Ignore him little Red,” Bjorn said quietly, turning his head over his shoulder to speak to me. Our faces were mere inches apart and I could see the gentle expression in his eyes, framed by faint laugh lines. I mustered a smile and reached down, slapping at his side.
“Go on, donkey!”
Bjorn laughed, snapping his head sideways to bop me in the forehead, and, with a yell, whirled back into the fray, Ubbe and Hvitserk resuming their quest to unseat me.
After a few minutes I took pity on my blonde donkey and called a truce, submitting to a noogie and thorough tickling from Ubbe and Hvitserk for my weakness. A wave of nostalgia hit me hard as I heard Ragnar yell at us to ‘quiet down, you savages!’ and fell back on the couch with a sigh, breathing hard from my non-stop laughing. Ubbe plopped on one side of me and Hvitserk the other, Hvitserk flopping sideways, dropping his braided head in my lap and Ubbe reached over to flick his nose, laughing at his brother’s enraged squawk.
All too soon, Ragnar was calling everyone to the formal dining room for supper and I stood reluctantly. Ubbe and Hvitserk fell in step on either side of me and I felt Bjorn’s comforting strength behind me, and it gave me the courage to walk straight-backed to the table.
Ivar eyed me nastily, chewing sullenly on a breadstick. Torvi favoured me with a welcoming smile as she herded her children to their chairs and I was introduced to Ubbe’s wife, a quiet blonde woman named Margrethe then turned my head reluctantly towards Sigurd, who was clearing his throat importantly.
“Sera, this is my fiancé Veronique.” Sigurd gestured to the brunette woman at his side. She gave me the same appraising look Sigurd had before extended her hand limply towards me.
“Enchante,” she trilled.
“Nice to meet you,” I replied neutrally and sat down in the chair Hvitserk was holding out for me. Ragnar smiled at me from the end of the table, I’d been placed at the other end, a spot previously held by Aslaug but now for guests. I smiled back, grateful for his knowing wink as his relaxed gaze took in the tableau in front of him.
The first course was served and light conversation followed. Ivar remained stubbornly silent, and no one seemed overly eager to try and draw him out. I wasn’t sure if my presence was the reason, but Sigurd saw fit to grace us all with a list of his and Veronique’s accomplishments, I noticed she leaned frequently over, murmuring snide little comments to Sigurd in French and I rapidly grew tired of her cattiness.
As the second course wound down I found attention turning to me.
“Sera,” came Ragnar’s quiet voice, “tell us more of what you have been doing these past years.” He question was innocent, merely curious, but I felt a pang of guilt nonetheless.
I took a deep breath and began. “After we…. left, my mother took me to her family in California where we stayed until she enrolled me in an exclusive Swiss boarding school until I graduated. After that I transferred directly to Oxford. I completed my Masters in History this year, majoring in Early European, specifically ‘Viking History’. Next year I’ll begin my professorship at Columbia, at least….. that was the plan before my father died. I basically haven’t set foot on American soil since I was sixteen.”
Silence met my response. Some, like Ragnar, were smiling proudly, seemingly pleased with my accomplishments. Others looked thoughtful, while Ivar continued to scowl. In truth, I’d channeled my grief and anger into working my ass off academically, burying my sadness and loss in textbooks and papers. Only near the end of my thesis had I given serious thought to my future, and whether or not I would return to my childhood home.
Veronique was again leaning towards Sigurd, murmuring in French and I was no longer able to let her comments slide.
‘She’s lying, inflating her accomplishments, I bet she hasn’t done any of that.’
I saw red and before I could stop myself, my mouth was opening. “Je ne ments pas. J’ai compris tout ce que tu viens de dire. T’as pas entendu quand j’ai dit avoir passé 2 ans dans un internat en Suisse? Tout ce que j’ai raconte sur mon education est vrai. Tu devrais plus t’inquieter de ton mec qui me mate que de mes qualitfiactions.”
Again, silence greeted me. Everyone looked equal parts confused and wary, except for Sigurd, who’d obviously understood at least part of what Id just said and looked furious; and Veronique, with spots of high colour on her sharp cheekbones. Without a word she stood and walked stiffly away, and with a snarl, Sigurd followed.
I turned immediately to Ragnar, mortified. “I’m sorry Ragnar, I lost my-”
“Do not apologize.” Ragnar said sharply, his vibrant eyes blazing. I fell silent, not knowing what to expect. Then his face softened into a wide, genuine smile and he laughed. “I’ve been waiting for someone to put that bitch in her place for months! What did you say?”
I exhaled in relief, heart pounding as the my adopted brothers started laughing and throwing me thumbs-up. “She told Sigurd I was lying, I told her I wasn’t, reminded her I’d studied for two years in Switzerland and was fluent in French and told her to worry more about Sigurd’s wandering eye than my qualifications.”
Bjorn pounded the table as he roared and Hvitserk saluted me with a loaded fork and a grin around a full mouth. Torvi bit her lips, fighting not to laugh and even Ivar looked to be struggling not to smile. I felt a rush of relief, but also shame. Again, my mouth opened before my brain could catch up.
“I apologize for being gone so long. I threw myself into my education so I wouldn’t hurt so bad, to distract me. I had offers from Stanford and Berkley as well but I chose Columbia hoping I’d be close enough to start seeing father and all of you again on weekends… but I was selfish and too wrapped up in my own pain to worry about anyone else’s for a long time.”
Immediately the four eldest Lothbroks stood and surrounded me, pulling me from my chair, and for a long moment I was passed back and forth like toy, from one hard embrace to the next, all four deep voices reassuring me that it was okay, not to worry, all was forgiven and welcome home. Tears fell freely from my eyes and Ragnar squeezed me tightly.
“Don’t cry,” he whispered in my ear. “We are all here now, the family is complete again. Welcome home, little one.” He held me a beat longer, then released me. I glanced at the table and saw that Ivar was gone.
“Excuse me,” I murmured, trying not to notice the smirk on my adopted brother’s faces.
I stepped quickly past one of the bedrooms as I walked towards where I expected Ivar to have gone. Sigurd and Veronique were arguing and I felt a brief moment of embarrassment for having caused it, they were talking about leaving early, and Sigurd was trying to convince her to stay. I snuck past without them noticing me and ducked out the side door. As I’d hoped, Ivar was seated on an old bench, leaning against the side of the house. This area was shaded and protected by large trees, safe from prying eyes. I’d often sit here with Ivar while he’d talked and dreamed of the future, trying to distract himself from the constant pain in his legs.
He glanced up as I approached, a half-dozen emotions rapidly crossing his face before he looked away again, dragging heavily on his cigarette with a mirthless chuckle. I sat hesitantly beside him, I’d not been immune to his moods and rages as a child, no matter how used to them I’d gotten, and he was a man now, no longer an awkward teenager.
“Boarding school,” he grunted. “Oxford. You went off and got educated, left us all here.”
“Ivar, I-”
Ivar whirled his head towards me, his supernatural eyes alight. “No,” he barked. “I get to talk right now, you listen to me, I’m not the same lovesick little puppy following you around anymore.”
I faltered, stunned silent. Lovesick little puppy? Is that how Ivar felt? Had my home life been that bad, that I’d missed this? When had Ivar started feeling this way?
Ivar continued to glare at me, brows furrowed, watching these thoughts flash in my eyes. He raised his eyebrows at me and took another drag, scoffed.
“So you didn’t know? You couldn’t look away from my asshole brother long enough to see that I would have died for you back then? That I loved you?!” His voice was rising with anger and my heart started to pound.
“Ivar-”
“And goddammit! I still would…. I still do.” His voice trailed off, his anger flaring hot but burning out almost instantly. He looked away and stubbed the cigarette out on the bench, tossed it to the side. He resumed looking forwards, ignoring me, glaring smoking holes in the tree trunk a few feet away.
I opened my mouth, closed it again. There was nothing I could think to say right now. Ivar was used to pain, used to excruciating aches in his legs, but I had been the cause of his worst agony.
“Just go.” He growled.
“Ivar-”
“Just go!” He thundered, slamming his fist down on the bench beside me, eyes burning with banked rage. He was beyond listening to me right now, it would be best to leave him be.
I dropped my head and, after a moment, nodded assent. He was silent as I stood and walked away.

The Forgiveness You Don't Deserve
(Tom Holland!Peter Parker x Reader) •••• She always forgave him. Every time their plans were canceled or cut short, but how could she not forgive him? She knew his secret superhero identity. So she understood he was out saving the world. Every time he would return from the dangerous situation he left her for he would apologize over and over again, and every time she would just giggle at his puppy dog eyes. She forgave him because she was proud of him. So young, and risking his life so that others can be safe. How did she get so lucky as to love Peter Parker? The boy who puts the world before himself, and still found time to love her back. She stood in the shower, rubbing her fingers over her eyes vigorously trying to rub of her make up that she had applied for tonight. They were in the middle of a dinner date when Peter once again had to run off, but she watched him run out the door with a smile on her face that was hinted with worry. --- He didn't deserve her. None of this was fair to her, she deserved someone that was there for her 24/7, during all the little and big things life has to offer her, and he just couldn't promise that. So as he made his way back to her 7th level apartment he felt a small tear escape his eye from under his mask. He entered her room through the window, hearing the sound of her shower still running he sat himself on her bed and pulled his mask off with an exasperated sigh. --- Y/n pulled the shower curtain open and was met with all the steam rising from her use of the hot water, she quickly wrapped a towel around her body and used another one to taper through her hair. As she made her way back into her room she was unaware of the presence of her boyfriend. So when he realized she hadn't noticed him he made himself known. “Hi.” He whispered just loud enough for her to head. “Oh- oh my god.” She slightly jumped, startled but instantly laughing it off. “You scared me.” She smiled adoringly at him as she made her way sit next to him on the bed, shifting her body so she could face him. He let a smile find its way into his face as Y/n lifted his arms up to inspect every part of his body for injuries. “I'm okay, I promise. I won this time.” “What do you mean this time? Isn't it every time?” She joked, smirking and making him laugh. “If you won then why do you seem so sad?” She questioned, Peter unable to hide his emotions from her. “I’m sorry about tonight.” He whispered, playing with his fingers as his hands shook, he couldn't face her so he watched them. Noticing the uncontrollable shaking, Y/n grabbed his hands in hers causing his teary eyes to finally look into hers. “I told you, you don't have to keep apologizing Peter. It's okay.” He sighed, preparing his words, “I know you mean that when you say it, and I love you for that. I just- Y/n you deserve so much more. You deserve someone who won't cancel on you last minute or run out on you almost every single time they're with you. Y/n I put everyone before you, and I-” he swallowed loudly, desperately trying to hold back his tears so he could finish, “I don't deserve your forgiveness.” She didn't say anything at first, silent tears running down her face as she watched how broken he was saying this to her. She placed her hand under chin and moved his head up until his face was level with hers. “Listen to me, Peter Parker.” She gulped, emotions taking over the tone of her voice, “You do not owe me anything. Don't you ever say that you don't deserve my forgiveness, because Peter I don't think you understand that I never have to forgive you. You can't forgive someone who doesn't do anything wrong. God- I am so incredibly proud of you, and all this weight you willingly place on your shoulders, you take it all with such grace- well I mean when you aren't falling all over the place,” they both laughed, lighting to air in the atmosphere, “Peter you prioritize the safety of others over spending time with me doing silly couple things, you don't need to be forgiven for that.” He smiled at her with such adoration he barely understood how it was possible to love someone this much. “The day you put me first, over the world…” she began once more in a whisper as she leaned closer to him, “is the day you won't deserve my forgiveness.” And everything she needed to say, she finished by gently placing her lips onto his. Their lips tasted like salt from the tears, but it was filled with passion and greater understanding for each other. And as they pulled away, foreheads still touching and eyes still shut, they had never been more in love.

So this is more of a cool down chapter after the last one, as you would well expect. Another car ride, a lot of introspection, and a look into Xavier and Malcolm. One tough part of writing this is that I want to give every member of the family a good section to shine, as well as keeping those moments organic. That said, Xavi and Malc were fun to write for, especially the contrast between the two of them. I just hope that you readers think they feel natural the way they play off each other. This was also a good chapter to more or less explain Animalia's perception on differing species, diets, and couplings, which i never had a chance to kind of clearly lay out before. Shout out to my patreon backers whose input helped shape and correct this chapter. They get access to the story chapters early as a perk and the fact that the take the time to note errors and so on is super helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks to Warwolf416 and Unformed8 for their contributions, you guys are great. And if you guys are interested in sneak peeks and other stuff behind the scenes of my art and fiction, well I've got a Patreon. So please consider donating. Every little bit helps keep me fed and living, and that means it's easier to write and draw. https://www.patreon.com/wastedtimeee Alright, that's enough shilling for myself. Go ahead and read.

Chapter Twenty One: The Odd Couple
Aside from the clatter of various implements into drawers, and the occasional droning hum of hand truck wheels, the closing of the Hunter family stall was a largely silent affair. There was little warm and friendly chatter between the family members short of simple directions from Audrey. What to put where, and how to pack what, and so on. Dawn did what she could to assist, but her small stature lent her to very few tasks that could be handled more simply by the larger mammals among the family. At the very least Dawn could take solace in the fact that she wasn't the only one 'short changed' when it came to helping out, as Qali seemed to be more or less in the same boat. Between her and the little fox they were only moving a single case at a time while the others carried three or four. Or in the case of Vanna, a towering seven cases of leftover pies at a time.
Dawn could tell this was supposed to be something that normally was a fun, playful task between the Hunters. But the standoff that had taken place just moments ago seemed to have drained any exuberance the family had right out of them. Dawn could see it on the faces of the various members of the Hunter family as they went about their task. There was a sad resignation behind their eyes, hidden behind terse and irritated grimaces. There wasn't a one among them that didn't have some sort of visual tell alerting to the fact that they were stewing below the surface. Drooped ears, sagging tails, and slumping gaits plagued the Hunters as they silently packed away supplies. Vernon was no exception, his expression seemingly stuck somewhere between angry and wounded. The ewe had never seen his ears bow as sharply as they were now, and she was sure she could hear the occasional soft whine escape his muzzle as he moved about the stall. It was clear there was a lot weighing on the wolf's mind, and unlike the other Hunters, Dawn at least had some idea as to what was going on in the wolf's head. But the ewe had agreed to hold off questioning the wolf until they were alone again. It was clear that whatever he was waiting to say had a great deal of emotion behind it, and it was something he did not want the others to see.
Even so, it wasn't as if Dawn was free from her own miserable woe stricken thoughts. She imagined she must have looked as equally dismal as the rest of the family as she went about her share of the work. It made it easier to understand why no one had spoken. The thoughts that stewed below the ewe's surface were screaming to get out, eager for the ewe to continue to prostrate herself before Audrey and the others in a pathetic heap. To apologize again and again for things she had already been forgiven for, and lament the trouble she had caused. And Dawn was worried if she opened her mouth the words would simply come pouring out and she would be unable to stop.
It was her fault after all, at least that's how Dawn was starting to see it. Every argument, every fight, every single little problem could be easily traced back to her as its source in some form or another. It was as if she were a dark shroud that had descended over the Hunter household and tore the family asunder. And regardless of what Audrey, Vernon, or any of the other Hunters could say to try to convince her of the contrary, it would do little to dissipate the mountain of guilt the ewe felt hanging over her head. The weight of it seeming to grow more and more as her mind swam with the countless ways in which she had managed to hurt the family. The anxiety and pressure building as her perceived sins all flowed into one thought that rang louder than any other, the simple conclusion that her attendance at the family reunion was a terrible idea.
Dawn had been skeptical at the very notion of meeting Vernon's family all at once, let alone at something that was seen as a 'tradition' among the Hunters. To Dawn it seemed to be inappropriate for many reasons. There was the fact that they had only been officially an 'item' for just above three months. As well as surprising Vernon's family by revealing he had taken a prey mammal as a mate. After all, Vernon had never shown an interest in prey before she had come back into his life, and so how was his family supposed to respond to that. The ewe imagined that even the most tolerant of families would still find such a predicament a bit of a tough pill to swallow. The there was of course her criminal past. Regardless of her work to reform and her recent actions in Zootopia, it still made for an unpleasant chapter in her history all the same. And any mammal still willing to hold it against her would have been well within there rights to do so. It had all seemed like far too much to expect or put upon the mammals that she had only heard a very little amount about.
But she couldn't say no to her Puppy. Not with his drooping ears and his pleading eyes. For every negative possibility the wolf was quick to assure her of the contrary, and it wasn't as if the wolf was without his fair share of reasonable points. Vernon had already met her Mother Clover, and aside from accidently hitting his head entering the older ewe's home the whole affair had went exceedingly well. Her mother couldn't say enough nice things about the wolf, even when it came to private texts and emails. Of course Clover was one mammal, and they had only spent an afternoon there. By comparison the Hunter reunion seemed a more daunting task, even if it had been limited to simply Audrey and Dorian. But according to Vernon, Audrey was even softer than Clover was in many respects, and with his brothers almost all dating outside their species the wolf seemed adamant that the fact that she was prey would play no part in his families reception of her. Dawn's criminal past was the only thing that seemed to trip the wolf up slightly when it came to his unwavering confidence going to the family reunion. But the wolf was quick to sweep it aside in favor of sharing his ideas on picturesque experiences the two would get to share away from the family.
The picture he had painted was so dreamy and wonderful. Fairs, barbeques, fall sunsets and picnics in the meadows. The excitement behind the wolf's pitch was instantly infectious as was always the case. Dawn would meet his family, and get a real taste of the life she had missed out on. The one she had been denied for so many years. And her logical fears began to waiver under Vernon's emotional appeal. She loved her mate, her Darling Puppy, but the wolf had a terrible habit of thinking purely in idealistic terms. It was normally something Dawn considered a healthy counterbalance to her own 'glass half empty' perception of life that had been cultivated growing up under her Father's hoof. But when faced with situations like the one they were now in, the wolf's lack of planning for the possibility of things not quite going the way he expected clearly left him struggling for ideas on how to turn the situation around.
She could see hints of it behind his eyes the moment that Wade had told them Giselle wasn't going to be coming along on the trip. A brief lost and confused look, as he was evidently trying to re-appraise the situation and course correct for the unexpected turn. It was a look that became more and more prolonged and pronounced with each wrench that had been thrown into Puppy's overall plan, and as of now it still hadn't left his face. She knew she should have been more adamant when it came to planning for the worst, to pull her Puppy Love back down to Animalia and place his paws firmly back on the ground. Then perhaps they could have navigated more easily through the seemingly endless rough patches the trip had thrown them.
But she was greedy, at least part of her felt that way. For wanting all that Vernon said he planned out. The hunger to live that fantasy beating her doubts and uncertainties into submission and getting her to agree to it with significantly less protest than she should have put up. If introducing Vernon to her Mother had been so easy, certainly it would have been just as easy to meet the Hunters. And even if she hadn't won over the Hunters on the first trip, she could still have a great time with her mate. To have everything Vernon had talked about, everything they wanted, that she wanted. Memories that would last forever.
But then reality came crashing down around them, around the little dream bubble Vernon had fought so desperately to protect. There were so many things they had ignored, and worse, things she had failed to even take into account among her own laundry list of presumptions. The most egregious of which being the ewe had failed to consider exactly what their relationship being so public would do for those closest to them. Vernon was proud to be her mate, and she was equally proud to be his. But he often ignored the risks of being so brazen about the two of them being together, always certain he could handle whatever fallout would come. That together they could stand up to anything. And what could have possibly come from meeting his folks that they couldn't handle? How big a deal could it have been?
But that was the point. They had made the choice to stand against the world when it came to their relationship, and accept what came with that. But their parents hadn't made that choice, nor had Vernon's siblings. It was simply something they had to accept, either with joy or disdain. And now the Hunters were forced to face the consequences for Dawn and Vernon's choice to live as they chose. The Hunter and Bellwether names were now to be directly associated with prey-chasing, pred-baiting, crossing, and what ever other slang the mammals of the world could come up with. And Dawn was only set to make it worse when the book she was writing was finally released. Then there would be no more reasonable doubt as to the nature of their relationship. From blurry pictures and speculation from the rumor mill that was the 'Zootopian Query' straight to the top story on ZNN. Her proud stance along side her Puppy Love would throw every member of their families into the public eye, and with it their names and public image. Dawn imagined whatever would come after that would pale in comparison to the scene that had played out today in front of the Hunter stall. And the ewe was becoming more and more skeptical of the idea of risking doing such a thing to a family that had mostly accepted her with open paws.
She could already hear Audrey's reply should she even mention such fears to the she-wolf.
"Darlin', you have to put that book out! I'll be insulted if ya'll don't."
Just looking at the She-wolf from across the stall she could practically imagine her current stern countenance turning on a dime if Dawn even approached her. Audrey would never stand for the ewe to be silenced, she had proven as much just moments before. And that's what made it all so much worse for Dawn.
She knew the Hunters now, she cared about them. Aside from Dorian, Yuri and Ulric, the family had simply embraced her, and stood up for her at every opportunity. And what had she managed to do in the two short days she had been visiting? Dawn had managed to drive a wedge between Vernon and his Father, as well as Dorian and the Hunters at large. Not only that, but she had hurt the families livelihood. It made it feel even more so that Dawn had stabbed them in the back somehow, that because they were forced to stand up for her due to circumstances she caused simply just by being there. Regardless of whether the mob was justified or not, the ewe had hurt the Hunter family. Especially Ada, who looked as though she was set to be in lock-up for who knows how long, all because Dawn had failed to stand up for herself.
The ewe bit her tongue as she ruminated on that thought, nearly dropping the case of pies she was carrying as she cringed. It was bad enough she had caused that scene, and had fed into Ana's tirade. But the fact that once again she needed a bigger mammal to step in and save her. Granted she hadn't asked for the help, but still relied on it to salvage the situation. Her resolve had once again proven too weak, even after everything she had been through, she still managed to loose her nerve when it came to the confrontation. And the end of everything saw her once again simpering into Vernon's side like a helpless, timid failure.
Her therapist, Dr. Gnu had long told her that the path to better self confidence was not one that could be easily traversed overnight. After all, not even mammals with the strongest of wills could rise to the occasion every time. But the ewe had felt so much stronger after coming back from the brink, she was so certain she was no longer the meek little sheep she had been before. But the wildebeest had ultimately proven right once again as the sheep found herself still taking the easiest way out more often than not when the opportunity arose.
She should have spoken up, used her political prowess to take command of the situation and fix it. To keep Ada out of jail and manage to diffuse everything before Dorian was forced to intercept it. But it was too late, the ewe had missed her chance, and the entire Hunter clan was now suffering for her own perceived weakness. The weekend was a complete and utter disaster, and the ewe was certain now more than ever that Dorian would never accept her as part of the hunter family. Perhaps, the ewe mused, the time had come to simply throw in the towel. To give up on the dream that Vernon had, and simply return to the city in shame, never to return to the Ranch after all the trouble she caused.
"Alright, who's riding with me?" Audrey's voice broke the sullen silence hanging over the stall, snapping Dawn out of her malaised stupor. She nearly dropped the case she was loading into the pie truck as the she-wolf called the family to attention. Setting the crate down, the ewe made her way back toward the she-wolf that was now gesturing the family to group up. She had only gotten a few steps away before she felt a strong paw grip her on the shoulder.
"We'll ride in the back of your truck Ma, if that's fine." Vernon spoke, giving the ewe a gentle squeeze. The wolf's flashed the ewe a warm smile despite his sad eyes. Dawn lifted a hoof and placed it gingerly on his paw, giving it a soft squeeze in response as she flashed a meek smile of her own. Vernon let out a soft whine as he rubbed the back of his head with his other paw. She could tell her poor little Sheepdog was suffering as much as she was, and it made the ewe even more eager to get to their picnic so he could get his troubles off his chest.
"We might as well handle the Van." Zach added, gesturing to Vanna and himself. " If ya'll want we can unpack it ourselves too, that way-"
"Nothin' doing." Trenton interjected. "Ain't like we can all fit in Ma's truck anyway, and it's not me and Qails got any big plans for the rest of the night."
"I take it that means yer ridin' with them?' Audrey asked.
"Yeah, me and Qails will ride in the back." Trenton asserted.
"Do you want me in the va-?"
"No!" Trenton and Zach cut Ulric off before he could even finish his question, both seemingly unwilling to even hear the wolf out.
Ulric's ears drooped as the dark grey wolf let out a soft whine. But it was short lived as his Mother wrapped a paw around him, pulling him in and giving the wolf a playful tussle of his fur.
"Aw, that's alright sweetheart, ya'll can ride up front with yer Ma." Audrey smiled as Ulric tried to pull away. It took him a few pulls before he stumbled out of her grasp, playfully swatting at his Mother.
"And ya'll can talk my ear off about whatever ya'll want. As much as you want." Audrey added.
Ulric seemed to beam at this, clapping his paws together excitedly.
"R-really! Oh Ma you're gonna love the stuff I got to tell you! I've got a whole bunch of new UFO stories I th-"
"I guess that means the rest of us are riding in the back Mom?" Xavier asked, taking a step next to Vernon and Dawn. The well dressed wolf gestured to the pair, as well as Malcolm and Wade.
"'Suppose ya'll will have to." Audrey chuckled. "Unless any of ya'll want to squeeze in front with us?"
"Please, Dawn's the only one who could even fit." Xavier replied.
"Well she's more than welcome to!" Audrey cooed as she bent down and gave the ewe a playful nudge. " Although I ain't sure she wants to hear about ghosts."
"Aliens Ma, UFOS?" Ulric enunciated the acronym, clearly distressed that his Mother had seemingly confused the topic.
"Oh sorry Darlin'." Audrey tutted.
"We're fine in the back Ma." Vernon asserted. The wolf leaned forward slightly, squeezing Dawn's shoulder as he spoke. It was clear the wolf was still in protective mode, despite Audrey's non threatening demeanor.
"Alright, alright." The wolfess placed her paws up defensively. "I hear ya."
With that the she wolf turned her back to the group, making her way toward the back of the stall.
"Ya'll can head to the cars, I just have to lock up before we can go." The she-wolf waved them off as she continued her walk. "I'll catch up to ya'll in a bit."
As the other Hunters began to depart, Dawn could feel the wolf's grasp on her shoulder tighten slightly, drawing her attention. As she looked up at Vernon, the wolf looked away, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
"Y-ya want a lift Floofs?" Vernon murmured.
Dawn was slightly taken aback. "Y-you're asking me?" Dawn replied.
"W-well you're the one who told me to warn ya next time, weren't ya?' Vernon flashed the ewe a weak grin.
It was true, Dawn had told the wolf hundreds of times to give her a warning before lifting her up on his shoulders. But she would be lying if she said she didn't secretly enjoy it. She knew the reason Vernon rarely asked was out of simple forgetfulness, his excitement and exuberance making him act before even thinking. That said, the fact that he had even thought to ask was a clear indication he was not in a great state of mind.
"I-I'm fine down here for now Puppy." Dawn said reluctantly. She didn't want to further depress the wolf, but she certainly wasn't feeling up to the ride in her current state.
Vernon let out a sad whine, but nodded in agreement. However Dawn was quick to take his paw, gripping it tightly in her hoof.
"I'd prefer to hold your paw for a while, if that's okay." Dawn smiled.
Dawn watched Vernon's ears perk slightly, a genuine smile cutting through the gloom for a moment as he squeezed back.
Unlike the van, which had been parked behind the stall for easy loading and unloading, Audrey had parked the truck on the edge of the parking lot. Granted that was only a short walk from the stand as it was. The Hunter stall was situated relatively close to the entrance of the fair. Prime real estate, Dawn thought, as it allowed 'Hunter's Bounty' to be one of the first names patrons got to see as they entered the fairground. It was also a painful reminder to the ewe of the fact that she had put the stand in jeopardy. Who knows how long the family stand had been a part of the festivals traditions. If Audrey's story about meeting Dorian was anything to go by, that number was at least thirty years if not longer. And now Dawn was left to worry about what would become of it. Would this be the last year the stall was allowed to run at the fair because of her and Vernon?
The hard thunk of the truck bed door opening drew Dawn's attention back to the wolves in front of her. Wade was already half way into the truck bed, sliding his way toward the back of the cab while Malcolm was easing his way up onto the flap. Dawn watched as the pudgy wolf awkwardly flopped onto the bed. He blushed slightly through his fur as he righted himself, scratching the back of his head as he tried to play it off.
"As elegant as always Darling." Xavier chuckled.
"Don't be fresh, or I won't help ya up." Malcolm retorted as he offered the dapper wolf a paw.
Xavier adjusted his glasses, glaring at the truck apprehensively before taking his mates paw. As the well dressed wolf climbed on to the back of the truck, he seemed to walk with care, his eyes studying the floor briefly before he carefully took a seat.
"Honestly, if ya'll are so worried about mussin' up yer clothes you should have taken the front seat!" Malcolm chortled.
"And leave all of you at the mercy of Ulric's sparkling conversational skills? Even I'm not that cruel." Xavier replied as his mate leaned into him. The dowdy wolf wrapped an arm around the husky chef, pulling him in close.
Despite her general mood, Dawn couldn't help but giggle slightly at the pairs back and forth. She wasn't sure how long they had been an item, but the way they spoke made it seem like they had been together for years.
As Vernon walked Dawn to the edge of the truck, the wolf kneeled by the side of it, offering his free paw as a stepping stool to boost her into the truck. Still clasping his other paw tightly Dawn carefully eased her way into the truck bed. Once she was safely inside, the ewe slid down the bed to make room for Vernon. Satisfied with the amount of space she had provided, the petite sheep leaned an arm on the lip of the trunk, peeking over the side at the at the entrance of the fair. Yet again she could spy the Hunter stand, barely obscured by a few other food and game stalls in the distance. By now Audrey was making her way back toward them, the business of locking up evidently taken care of. But the she-wolf's face was still stuck in a sharp grimace, causing Dawn to form a deep frown of her own. Audrey had been nothing but welcoming and caring when it came to Dawn, and it hurt the ewe that much more to know that she was the reason the she-wolf was in such a state. It was almost alien to the ewe seeing the normally cheerful wolf so dour.
Dawn let out a surprised yelp as she felt a pair of paws clasp around her, pulling her away from the edge of the truck. Out of sheer force of habit the ewe protested for a split second before her mind reasoned exactly who was grasping her, and summarily relaxed as she soon found herself comfortably seated in Vernon's lap. The ewe glared up at the wolf for a moment.
"You didn't ask that time Puppy." She said, letting out a huff.
"I needed it." Vernon smiled back, wrapping his arms around the ewe and squeezing her tightly into his chest.
Dawn blushed slightly as she caved into the backwards hug. It was impossible to even pretend to be mad when she knew the wolf was in such a funk.
"Alright ya'll, tuck in." Audrey called as she gave a heavy rap on the side of the truck. Ulric had already taken his seat in the cab as Audrey opened the driver's side door. From where the ewe was seated, she couldn't get a good look at Audrey's face as she entered the car. But she imagined it remained much the same.
"I suggest ya'll brace yerselves a bit." Wade said, leaning both his arms on the lip of the truck bed and clasping the sides slightly. "Ma tends to get a bit of the lead foot when she's upset, especially when it involves Pa."
"Lead foot?" Dawn asked, looking up at Vernon worriedly.
"I had more than one reason for buckling you into this 'wolf harness'." Vernon chuckled weakly as he gave the ewe another squeeze.
Dawn let out a quiet gulp, her eyes darting around as the truck rumbled to life. As she heard the tires start to squeal she dug her hooves into Vernon's arms, bracing herself for what was to come. She wasn't sure how fast the she-wolf intended to go, but the ewe prayed it wasn't fast enough to make her motion sick. The diminutive ewe had a poor track record when it came to high speed movement. On top of the many reasons why her last trip on something fast moving was nothing short or nightmarish, as it was associated with being chased by police and nearly driving into a ravine. The ewe also had to contend with keeping her stomach contents from ending up all over Vernon's shirt as they sped down the subway lines. It was why she had shot down every ride Vernon had suggested that appeared vaguely too roller coaster-ey for her liking.
As the truck lurched forward, Dawn could feel her stomach drop, and she tightened her grip on Vernon as she tightly closed her eyes. All of her previous fears were suddenly wiped from her mind as they became replaced by the more urgent and pressing need to will her stomach chambers into behaving as the truck sped out of the parking lot.
Despite the lack of vision caused by her tightly shut eyes, the ewe could vaguely tell every move the vehicle made through its series of terse starts and stops. It stopped sharply at each turn, letting off a honk at what she assumed was another car in the lot before coming to a hard stop. Dawn forced an eye open long enough to see that Audrey had stopped at the mouth of the lot, and was just about to turn back on to the country road that brought them there. It wouldn't be long before they were back on the highway, and Dawn gulped as she imagined just how fast the she-wolf would be driving once she got to it.
As the vehicle lurched forward again, Dawn slammed her eyes shut and began to silently pray to herself as the car picked up speed.
"Don't throw up" She muttered quietly to herself. "Don't throw up, don't throw up." again and again she continued the mantra as she felt the cars speed continue to build.
"Honey Lamb?" She could hear Vernon's voice, but she couldn't respond. Breaking her focus now could spell disaster for those within vomiting distance. She could feel the chambers in her stomach doing back flips.
"MA!" Thunk! Thunk! Came a heavy rapping from somewhere in the back. She could tell that was Wade's voice. "Slow down will ya! Yer making us sick back here!"
Dawn wasn't sure if Audrey had heard her son, or simply had gotten the message through the heavy pounding against the truck, but slowly she felt the speed of the vehicle begin to ease. As it drew slower and slower Dawn could feel her stomach start to settle, and soon the ewe was able to release her vice like grip on Vernon's arms as the speed finally arrived at something more reasonable. Dawn let out a sigh as she finally opened her eyes again.
They were now back on the highway, although thankfully obeying the speed limit at this point. The ewe wiped her brow before placing a hoof to her head.
"Ugh..." Dawn murmured.
"Sorry Darlin'." Vernon replied, gently brushing back the ewe's head wool as Dawn steadied herself.
"Mother has always been quite the...emotional mammal." Xavier added.
Dawn tilted her head toward the sky, laying it back against Vernon's chest as she regained her bearings. She could feel the mixture of cotton candy and other fair foods that had risen up into the back of her gullet slowly sliding back down where it belonged.
It took a few moments of cloud gazing before Dawn could finally bring her focus back to the truck beds occupants. Now that the excitement had died down, the rest of the Hunters had returned to the simple silence that had permeated the clan during the closing of the stall. Wade continued to hold the sides of the bed, staring off at nothing in particular, while Malcolm and Xavier seemed to be doing little more than simply enjoying each others embrace.
Dawn wanted to speak, say something to try to liven up the mood that had returned from the previous altercation with Dorian. But the ewe couldn't bring herself to do it. Her thoughts had returned to her own general glumness about everything she had caused. And thus it seemed that much more inappropriate to act as though the Hunter's needed her to cheer them up. Instead, the ewe decided it was better to take a page from Wade, and simply let her mind wander as she stared out at nothing in particular.
The ewe turned her half hearted attention to the other lane of the highway across from them, watching a few stray cars stream by. By all intents and purposes it was practically rush hour, yet despite it neither side of the highway seemed particularly cluttered. Dawn chalked that up to the pros of rural living. Even with Zootopia as close as it was, the North Meadowlands simply didn't have enough mammals living in it to ever have to worry about congestion. She imagined that if one were to take the entire population of the North Meadowlands and stick them into an emptied Zootopia, they would barely fill up Savanna Square.
The familiar squeal of a police siren broke Dawn from her reverie, and as she continued to watch the lane opposite the Hunter truck the ewe caught sight of a local squad car. The ewe watched as a North meadowlands police cruiser passed on the other side of the highway. Her eyes lingered after it until it was well out of sight as her thoughts drifted back to Ada. Granted the car clearly wasn't Dorian's. She could only assume it was well at the station by now. But she couldn't help but find herself worried for the large, slightly abrasive canid. Here was a mammal that accepted Dawn as her 'sister' without a moments hesitation, and she had jumped to Dawn's defense in much the same way. Dawn barely knew Ada, yet here she rose to the ewe's defense as readily as Vernon would. Now the hyena was in who knew how much trouble. Even if she got out on bail fairly easily, Dawn was certain that nasty she-wolf Ana would do everything she could to make it worse for her.
Dawn could feel the immense guilt returning as she imagined the poor mammal being dragged through an endless slew of hearings, and the possibility of jail time, all at the expense of a dumb ewe who couldn't stand up for herself. Even if they were to decide to return to Zootopia and call the trip a failure, she was certain she couldn't leave Ada in the lurch after what she had done for her. Dawn knew she had to do something, anything to make things square with the hyeness.
"I can tell you're worried about Ada." Xavier said, causing Dawn to snap her head in the wolf's direction. The ewe twiddled her hooves slightly as she shimmied deeper into Vernon's chest.
"Y-yes." Dawn muttered. "After what she did for me..." Dawn trailed off, glancing up at the wolf above her. "For us...I'm just, I ca-"
Xavier chuckled slightly, shaking his head. "She'll be fine Ms. Bellwether, I can assure you."
"Yeah, it's not exactly her first rodeo Darlin'." Malcolm laughed, nudging his partner playfully.
"But still, we have to do something." Dawn turned her attention back to Vernon, clasping a hoof to his chest. "M-Maybe we can pay her back for the bail. It's the least we can do!"
"She'd never accept it." Wade interjected.
Dawn's frowned sharply. "W-what, why?"
"That girl is far too proud to take money from any mammal." Wade continued. "Even more so when it's a fight she jumped into, that stuff is fun for ol' Ada."
"B-but she did it for us!" Dawn protested.
"She chose to do it for ya'll." Malcolm said. "That's how she's gonna see it anyhow."
"B-but what about down the road?" Dawn asked. "Surely someone as tenacious and vindictive as Ana seems to be isn't going to let Ada go that easily. If she drags it into court I can't imagine what kind of compensation she's pursue." Dawn shook her head briskly. "Or worse yet, jail time."
"Well I supposed that all depends on the type of lawyer she can get a hold of." Xavier replied.
"Aw heck, that don't matter none!" Malcolm chirped, giving his partner another affectionate nudge. "My Xavi ain't gonna let nuthin' stick to Ada. He can laywer circles around any bumpkin' from the Meadowlands Ana can git her paws on! Ain't that right Darlin'?"
Xavier let out an awkward cough. "Well, if Ana ends up stick with little more than local legal representation, then yes I imagine I could get Ada off with little more than a slap on the wrist." The wolf adjusted his glasses.
"Y-you'd represent Ada?" Dawn asked.
"I try to step in whenever my family needs legal help. So naturally that last thing I would do was leave Ada to twist in the wind." Xavier replied. "We Hunters look out for one another, as my brother so proudly boasted earlier."
"B-but what if she gets a lawyer outside of the Meadowlands, maybe someone through Loupon?" Dawn said, chewing at her hoof.
"Considering Loupon's attitude toward the end of our little confrontation, I doubt Ana's going to have the connections to pull a decent lawyer."
"Pftt, like that would matter!" Malcolm crossed his paws. "Nobody beats my Xavi when it comes to fightin' in the courtroom! I bet he could run circles around Zootopia's best legal mammals if'n he had to."
Xavier bowed his head slightly, his ears flattening out as he looked toward his lap. Dawn could see the hint of a blush forming below the fur on the wolf's muzzle.
"P-Please Malcolm, you've said enough." Xavier coughed again.
"Ain't no how I did!" Malcolm chortled. "Ya'll just need to learn to accept praise when it's due!"
"Speaking of..." Vernon added. "You made partner? When did that happen?"
Xavier perked up slightly, his blush fading under a creeping prideful grin.
"I-It was last month, give or take a few days." Xavier swelled his chest, flashing a broad smile. "I just hadn't really had a chance to mention it to everyone yet. To be honest I'm still getting used to it myself."
"Fienstag, Goldram, and Hunter..." Malcolm trailed off, letting out an appreciative sigh. "I can't tell you how overjoyed I am to see Xavi's name in big gold letters on the side of their office building. I'm so proud of my little Fluffybuns!"
Vernon and Wade let out sputtering laughs while Dawn did her best to hold in a giggle of her own. She could see Xavier's face flush a deep crimson as his eyes widened. His shock and embarrassment quickly turned into an irritated glare directed toward his mate. Malcolm shrank slightly, trying to suppress a smile of his own as he placed a paw to his mouth.
"S-Sorry Xavi honey..." Malcolm murmured.
"'Fluffybuns', 'huh?" Vernon asked, arching an eyebrow as he grinned mischievously.
"Like you have any room to talk 'Puppy Love'." Xavier retorted, letting out a snort as he crossed his arms.
"Alright fellas, we all have embarrassin' pet names." Wade interjected. " No need to get yer hackles up over it."
"Mine ain't embarrasin'." Vernon added, crossing his paws and drawing Dawn more tightly into his chest. "I like it."
Dawn let out another giggle as she hugged the wolf's arms tightly in response. However she could see that Xavier was still flustered, and rather than continue to allow the Hunter boys to tease each other, the ewe thought it best to change the subject and give the legal wolf an out.
"I must confess, I was surprised when Vernon told me you were a lawyer Xavier." Dawn said, adjusting her own spectacles. "I mean, he told me before he was the only one out of all of you who hadn't went into police work."
Xavier seemed to relax slightly, uncrossing his arms and placing his paws on his lap.
"Well, being a lawyer is still more or less police work." Xavier replied. "Except my beat is in a courtroom and my battles are fought with words. At least that's how I was able to pitch it to my Father to more or less get him to go along with it."
"He wasn't receptive to the idea?' Dawn asked.
"Well, I'll put it to you this way Miss Bellwether." Xavier sighed. " Name me one mammal who has a high opinion of a lawyer." Xavier said with a chuckle.
"I do!" Malcolm raised a paw, again giving his mate a playful nudge to make sure he noticed. Xavier let out a groan, but Dawn could see the hint of a smile on his muzzle despite it.
"But I told him that being a lawyer was to best way possible for me to be able to help other mammals." Xavier ran a paw through the fur on his scalp. "That while my brothers would be out there catching bad mammals, I would be the one making sure they were properly punished for their actions." Xavier nodded. "It was hard for Dad not to see my side of it."
"Well you do have a real way with words Xave." Vernon added. " I imagine a mammal like you could have convinced Pa that being a musician was somehow going to protect innocent mammals."
Xavier chuckled, shaking his head dismissively. "Please, you know I don't use my 'powers' to manipulate Vernon, I don't lie." Xavier rolled his eyes for a moment, scratching his chin. "Even if most mammals consider my job to be a professional 'bullshitter' as Dad would call it." Xavier laughed.
"Well, I'm sure Pa wasn't thinking you'd mostly be taking civil cases rather than criminal ones." Vernon replied with a smirk. "If anything I'd call that a lie of omission."
Xavier stabbed a finger at Vernon. "Hey, it's still an avenue that helps mammals." The wolf said sharply. Slowly he lowered his paw before easing back into a comfortable position against the edge of the truck bed. "Besides, it certainly helped you today did it not?"
Vernon gave a quiet nod.
"Xavier, if you don't mind me asking.." Dawn trailed off, waiting for the wolf to indicate for her to continue. Xavier gave her a simple, affirmative nod. "Were you always keen on taking civil cases, or is it because of your own...well...I mean..." Dawn couldn't manage to say the words. The ewe as fearful of upsetting the couple accidently. All she could manage was gesturing to the pair as she struggled to get the words out, but fortunately Xavier seemed to get the gist rather quickly.
"Of our relationship? Oh hardly..."
"Well, lah-dee-dah." Malcolm huffed. "I certainly feel important now."
Xavier simply rolled his eyes at Malcolm before continuing. "Like the rest of my family I've always felt a need to stand up for smaller mammals as if it were a sense of personal duty. But not every mammal is small in a literal sense. Many are simply smaller metaphorically when pit against a corporation or a township. Even Mega fauna can find themselves trampled underneath the roar of pubic opinion. So that is the main reason I became deeply invested in the art of legal defense." Xavier said.
"And what's the other 'reason'?" Malcolm added, giving the mammal another nudge to emphasize his statement. Xavier glanced at the red wolf next to him, letting out a defeated sigh before turning back to Dawn.
"Yes well, ahem..." Xavier cleared his throat. "That isn't to say our relationship hasn't made it easier to sympathize with clients who are in unconventional relationships like Malcolm and I." The wolf adjusted his jacket slightly, letting out another rolling cough. "Over time that connection formulated a rather soft spot in me for mammals stuck in those circumstances. And I tended to favor helping them out above general civil cases."
"It's why Fienstag and Goldram were keen to dump 'em strictly on you after a while!" Malcolm chirped, still quite eager to cheerlead his mate's achievements loudly.
"W-well they said I had a knack for them, that I was capable of getting emotionally invested in such cases more than they could ever hope to." The wolf asserted.
"Because you are more understanding due to being in a relationship like that yourself?" Dawn asked.
Xavier nodded. "I wouldn't say we have it particularly hard personally. San Francisgoat is a very progressive city, and even so same sex couplings aren't exactly the highest type of relationship on the totem pole of public scorn. The most hassle Malcolm and myself have had to endure usually comes from wolves." Xavier shrugged. "I assume it's because they have an easier time of telling the difference between wolves that are just hanging out together and wolves that are a couple. Perhaps through smell or some other innate intuition. Even so it's usually more of a Native Wolf thing with regards to calling us out. "
Dawn raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Totem pole of public scorn?"
Xavier chuckled, extending a paw out. He held it high in the air.
"At the top you have prey and prey couples." Xavier lowered his paw slightly. "Slightly below that you got preds in general. Considering prey are more numerous and preds used to hunt them there's bad blood there, as you already know."
Dawn grimaced slightly, nodding in acknowledgment.
"Below that you have your Omnivores, you'd be surprised to hear they get a lot of flack because of their unique diet. Mammals, both pred and prey seem to share a mutual distrust of those who can't pick a side of the dietary scale to stick to."
"Below that ya'll got mammals like us." Malcolm interrupted, hovering his own paw below Xavier's.
Xavier looked at Malcolm briefly, letting out another sigh. "Same sex couplings mostly get flack from members of their own species, what with the inability to reproduce usually being a main point of contention."
Xavier brought his paw below Malcolms. "Then we have interspecies couplings of prey and prey, and pred and pred, as well as the rare offspring of those unions such a ligers and zhorses." Xavier stated. "A bulk of my discrimination cases come from couples like these, and it's truly distressing what some of them have had to endure just to be allowed to love the mammal they wanted to." Xavier pressed the center band of his glasses, sliding them back up his nose.
"And then?" Dawn asked knowingly. She could already assume what was to come next.
Xavier let out another sigh as he lowered his paw again, it was now getting dangerously close to the floor of the truck bed.
"Then you have pred and prey couples like..." Xavier shook his head before gesturing toward Dawn and Vernon.
"I figured..." Dawn muttered.
"The cases with pred and prey couples are few and far between." The wolf sighed, scratching he head. "I think it has to do with a combination of the fact that there are so few of them, as well as the amount of shame such a coupling carries keeping them in hiding when it comes to being seen in public. I can only imagine some of the horror stories couples like those have to tell." The wolf shook his head. "Especially those living out in the sticks."
"Can't get much lower than us huh?" Vernon said with a chuckle.
"Maybe if ya'll were a liger and a zhorse in a gay interspecies relationship." Malcolm laughed, sliding a paw across the truckbed floor until it was below Xavier's. "Then I imagine ya'll'd be here."
Dawn felt the truck shift, and turning her attention back to the road she could see Audrey's truck was now pulling away from the highway. She watched as the cement drifted out of sight, only to be replaced by long, amber stalks of grain. She imagined it wasn't much longer until they would be back at the ranch. Dawn couldn't help but ruminate on Xavier's talk of about the ladder of societal outcasts, and the suffering of all the mammals who simply wanted nothing more than to live their lives the way they chose in peace. She wanted the same, with Vernon, with her Mother, with the Hunters. But at the moment it all seemed so frustrating, so hard. How could she and Vernon have that simple peace without jeopardizing the rest of their families.
"It must be such a struggle..." Dawn mumbled. It hadn't been directed at anyone, it had simply slipped out before Dawn knew what she was saying.
"It can be." Xavier replied, drawing Dawn's attention to the fact she had spoken out loud. The ewe placed a hoof to her muzzle, blushing slightly in embarrassment.
"I've spoken to numerous clients who've told me so many miserable and horrific stories." Xavier shook his head in disappointment. "Ex-communicated by families, by friends and loved ones. Vandalism, physical abuse, in rare cases a death. Just because of their strong desire to simply be with the mammal they love."
Xavier let out a sad sigh, and for a moment the wolf remained silent, allowing the quiet ambience of the wind to dominate the truck bed. Dawn watched the wolf turn to glance at his partner before a small smile crawled across his muzzle. Xavier leaned over to Malcolm, planting a gentle kiss on his forehead before pulling him in with one arm. Malcolm let out an affection sigh as he leaned into his mate.
"But they fought, and when they needed help they came to me so they could keep fighting." Xavier said confidently. "Being in an unusual relationship like you or I, or the rest of my brothers can be a struggle, but so is anything worth fighting for." The well dressed wolf squeezed his mate into a hug.
Dawn could feel tears start to well as Xavier's words hit home inside her. Glancing up at the wolf above her, she could see his own glistening eyes looking back. And as Vernon's grip around her tightened into a hug of it's own the ewe began to feel something burning inside. A flicker of heat similar to what she had felt in her dreams while comatose in the hospital. Determination.
Xavier was right, his simple but effective statement encapsulated everything Dawn should have been thinking all along. Aside from Dorian, Yuri, and possibly Ulric, most of Vernon's family were stalwart in their support of the two of them being together. Despite Dawn's past, despite the difference in species, and in apparent spite of the risks that were associated with fraternizing with mixed species couples. She and Vernon had the fortune that despite it all they were still lucky enough to be surrounded by so many loving and supportive mammals. Nick, Judy, her Mother, Audrey, Vanna, the list expanded far beyond the capacity for Dawn to count on her own hooves. These were luxuries the mammals that went to seek Xavier's help most likely didn't have. Yet they didn't turn and run away, back into the dark. They stood, and they fought to be able to simply live a relatively normal life. Not only did Dawn owe the completion of her book to herself and Vernon, but she owed it to all the other mammals whose struggles the book would help shed light on. Something they could rally behind and get the attention they deserved.
But the ewe also knew she had to fight for her new family. Despite all that had happened over the first two days of the re-union, every encounter gone awry or misstep, there had always been a Hunter to stand up and defend them. The family had even gone so far to stand against the head of their household all for her and Vernon's sake, and it had been fractured because of it. Dawn couldn't simply give up now, simply turn tail and run back to Zootopia as fast as her hooves could carry her. She owed it to her new family to try to fix the problem, to heal the rift she had created. Even if she couldn't, at the very least she owed it to the Hunter family to try. But the question that now hung in the ewe's mind was simply 'how'?
"Which is why I am still so surprised at my Father for his supposed 'solution'!" Xavier huffed.
"Oh hush now Xavi." Malcolm cooed. "Dori ain't worth getting flustered over."
Xavier let out a scoff. "It is when he's behaving in such a manner, I swear."
"W-well it is his job to keep the peace." Wade stuttered slightly. "Things were getting a bit out of paw there, you were kind of losing it Xave."
Xavier snorted, throwing his brother a glare.
"Oh do not get all 'peace maker' on me Wade." The wolf made air quoting gestures as he emphasized 'peace maker'.
" His actions were completely untenable!" Xavier hissed, crossing his paws. "I've never seen Father behave in such a manner! Let alone side with mammals who were clearly in the wrong."
"He has been actin' different hasn't he?" Malcolm mused, placing a finger to his chin. "Seems like he's all riled up, like something's got under his fur."
"Yeah, us." Vernon muttered tersely.
"That's preposterous!" Xavier cried, gesturing to the two of them. "If you and Dawn are the reason for his behavior, then as I said early it is a slap in the face to the rest of us." Xavier huffed. "How can he approve of our relationships if he seems to take issue with yours? How can he accept Vanna, Qali, Ada or even Malcolm and spurn your mate?"
"M-maybe..." Dawn murmured. She could feel cud rising in her throat as she once again had to think about her own horrible misdeeds. She was averse to bringing it up again, but it seemed like the most obvious answer.
"Maybe it's because of my involvement in the 'Night Howler' plot." Dawn sighed.
Xavier shook his head decisively in dismissal. "Nonsense." the dowdy wolf replied without hesitation. "Father was a champion of rehabilitation, he believed in the idea even more than anyone else in this family."
"And after what ya'll did in Zootopia months ago, I'd think that'd be enough proof to the ol' wolf you were on the level Darlin'." Malcolm added.
"W-what else can it be then?" Dawn replied firmly, drawing back slightly in surprise of her own statements. But it was true, if it had nothing to do with the species difference, than it had to be Dawn's history as an ex-criminal. But the ewe's certainty began to waiver as she recalled a previous conversation with the Hunter girls earlier that day.
Ada and Qali had vastly disagreed about Dorian's true personality because they had met him at different times. And Vanna explained that Dorian had become reclusive and colder in the past few months, even before Dawn had been dating his son in an official sense. Perhaps there was something deeper there that Dawn was simply missing, and Vernon and her showing up had simply been an inopportune time to meet the wolf. As if to confirm her suspicions, the next words out of Malcolm's mouth seemed to add to the story Vanna had painted before.
"Last time I was out to visit he wasn't anything like this. Hell, he was the first one to hug me!" Xavier lamented.
"Ada said something very similar to me today." Dawn responded, scratching her chin.
"Oh?" Xavier asked, seemingly intrigued.
"Yes."" Dawn nodded. "When did the two of you last visit?"
Xavier placed a paw to his chin, rolling his eyes as he searched his thoughts.
"Hmm...I'd say..." The wolf trailed off as he tapped a finger against his chin repeatedly. " A little under a year ago, during 'Courtship Day' break I believe."
Dawn nodded in affirmation. "That lines up with what Ada, Vanna and Qali said. That Dorian's only been acting this way for the last few months."
"Well either way." Xavier huffed. "Good luck getting the real reason out of him when he's acting like such a mongrel, he's more stubborn that Vernon!" The well dressed wolf smirked as he gestured to his brother.
"Hey!" Vernon snapped. " I ain't that stubborn!"
Dawn chuckled, patting the wolf on the leg as she eyed him doubtfully. "Vernon, you made us part of a police chase because you weren't willing to let the police take me in for questioning."
"That's different!" The wolf sputtered. "They were trying to frame you!"
"Oh now this is one I absolutely have to hear the details on." Xavier grinned mischievously as he crossed his paws.
Dawn was about to open her mouth, to retell the harrowing story in earnest, but Vernon cut her off.
"Hey look! Were home!" The wolf cried loudly, drawing the ewes attention to her surroundings.
The ewe could see the car was in the process of slowing to a stop as the Hunter Family Ranch pulled into sight. The large sprawling cabin loomed over the old truck as it finally parked, and the rumble of the engine died away. Vernon had popped the trunk door open even before the truck had managed to come to a full stop. The wolf only paused to slide Dawn off his lap and back onto the truck bed before sliding his way off of the vehicle.
"Welp, I better head inside and get the picnic stuff!" The wolf announced abruptly as he adjusted the hem of his jeans.
Xavier simply chuckled as Wade began to make his way toward the trunk flap, shaking his head as the wolf passed. As Malcolm helped the well dressed wolf to his feet, he turned his attention back to Dawn, flashing the ewe a warm smile.
"Promise me you will tell me later, I really want to hear what kind of trouble my poor little brother got himself into."
Dawn smiled, nodding briskly at Xavier before the couple made their way off the back of the truck and onto the gravel drive. As Xavier passed by Vernon, he gave him a firm pat on the shoulder, letting out another laugh before leaving the couple alone.
Dawn eyed the wolf with a smirk of her own, which cause Vernon to turn his attention to the floor in shame.
"I...I said I was sorry for it." Vernon muttered.
Dawn scooted over to the edge of the trunk, giving the wolf an affection pat on the chest.
"I know." She cooed, extending a hoof to the wolf to help her down. "But that doesn't mean I'm not going to tell it to others." Dawn giggled as Vernon clasped her hoof tightly. The wolf brought his other arm under her legs, effectively making a lower ledge for her to slide off from. "Especially family."
Dawn hopped to the ground with ease, letting out a grunt as her hooves impacted the uncomfortable gravel. She never usually gave much thought to investing in a pair of 'solepads' like the ones Judy wore, but being in the rough terrain of the country rather than the smooth streets of Zootopia was certainly making her think twice about the idea. The ewe dusted her skirt off before turning her attention toward the now towering wolf.
Vernon was still clearly embarrassed. His teeth were clenched into a firm cringe as he let out a soft whine.
"Y-you ain't really gonna tell 'em all are ya?" Vernon muttered.
Dawn smirked, flicking a hoof toward the wolf. "I suppose it depends on how the picnic goes." Dawn said with a grin.
With that, the wolf's ears perked up, and Dawn could see his tail begin to wag.
"O-Oh the picnic!" The wolf yelped. The way he had said it made it seem as though he had temporarily forgotten it. "Yeah! I have to get all the gear."
Vernon turned, taking a step toward the house before turning back toward Dawn. Reaching down, the wolf gave Dawn's wooly poof a playful tousle. Dawn did her best to swat him away, giggling all the while. But it did little to stop the wolf.
"You wait here, and I'll be back in two shakes of..." Vernon shook his head, letting out a chuckle. "In two shakes of yer tail." The wolf flashed a cheesy grin.
Dawn let out a snorting laugh. "That's not funny."
Vernon pointed a finger toward the ewe as he began to walk backward toward the ranch. "But you laughed!"
Dawn shook her head as the wolf turned away from her and began a swift jog toward the front door. The wolf was nearly at the house when the slamming of car doors and excited gibbering drew Dawn's attention back to the truck cab. In all the excitement the ewe had nearly forgotten about Audrey and Ulric.
"Alright Ulric, I love ya. But seriously yer Ma has a headache." Audrey sighed as she marched passed Dawn toward the door. The she-wolf had a paw clasped to her head, her faced twisted up into a painful wince. Ulric was following close behind, practically hopping in place with excitement. Despite his Mother's declaration, it seemed to do little to slow the wolf down.
"Because that's where sheep came from Ma!' The wolf protested. "That's why they got those weird eyes!"
Dawn suppressed a giggle as she watched the pair continue to trudge toward the house, Audrey looking increasingly tired with each woeful step. All the while Ulric's rant growing quieter and quieter with only a few loud phrases popping out like 'UFO's' and something about 'wool transmitters' before they finally disappeared inside. Now Dawn was alone, left with nothing but the soothing hum of the light breeze wafting across the Meadowlands. The ewe took a moment to lean against the car, letting out a sigh as she began to think back to the matter at hoof once more.
Now that Dawn was set on staying and trying to make up for the trouble she had caused. But the ewe remained uncertain of just how to even begin to go about it. She kept coming back to the talk she had with the other members of the family, about how Dorian had changed seemingly overnight with no provocation. Surely there was a reason, surely some catalyst had to have forced the wolf to change. It was in that moment it became clear to Dawn. Like a brilliant flash through her mind, it became instantly apparent as to what she had to do.
She knew she had to talk to Dorian, alone. It was the only way to possibly mend the situation. Should any of the Hunter's go with her, especially Vernon, it would only end in an explosive argument. She had to face the head of the family, and remain calm and rational in the face of anything the wolf might throw at her. She had to prove to Dorian that she could stand up to him, to stand up for the mammal she loved, and prove that love. Maybe then she could earn the wolf's respect, or at the very least learn the exact reason why he seemed to have it out for her. She had failed to hold her ground at the fair, but she was damn well going to hold her ground now. She had to, for the Hunters, for Vernon, and for herself.

Dean decides it's time to tell Cas how he feels.
Okay, so, this is my first Supernatural fanfic, so it's probably not that good.
.
.
.
Dean came into his room with a mission in mind. Sitting down on his bed, he closed his eyes, taking a few minutes to find courage to say what he wanted to say.
“Castiel… I-I pray to god you DON’T have your ears on, ‘cause I need to say this and I don’t know how I feel about you hearing it. I… umm… You… did a good job hunting that poltergeist today. You’re almost graduating from a hunter in training to an actual hunter. Maybe soon you’ll go on your first solo case… Okay, umm, that’s not what I wanted to say. I mean, not that you didn’t do a good job, you were actually really good, I just… ugh.”
Dean’s phone vibrates out of nowhere, making him jump. Sam’s name pops up on the screen, next to a text message.
-YOU’RE BABBLING-
The older Winchester grabs his phone and throws it behind him.
“Okay, Cas… I’m tired, man. I’m tired of you being so close but at the same time so far. I’m tired of you having to leave the bunker instead of living here with us. I’m tired of you going off by yourself to do god knows what while I stay here worrying about you; because yes, I worry about you. I worry a lot. I need you to see that. I need you to realize how much you actually mean to me. I’ve been trying to hide it for a long time now because I thought there was no point in telling you, but I don’t think I can keep holding it in. You’ve done so much for me. For us. More than you’ve ever needed to. I may not have seen it at the time, but you’ve always been there for me. Cleaning up my messes and making some messes of your own because of me, for me. You’ve sacrificed yourself for me and Sam more times than I can count. Hell, you’ve died for us! And all the times you’ve forgiven us! You went against your own nature to save us; no matter how many times we screw up, you always come back to us, to me. Look at all the things you’ve done for me and I’ve never even said “thank you”, so thank you. Thank you for everything. You know, it’s true that we share a profound bond, but I lied to you… I don’t… I could never see you as family. I guess what I’m trying to say is… I..I’m.. I’m… I'm-”
“HE’S IN LOVE WITH YOU!” The younger Winchester screams from the other side of the door.
“Oh, shut up, Sam!” Dean gets up and opens the door, walking out to get a drink.
“What? That was a great speech, but you were never gonna say it.” Sam walks two steps behind his brother, trying to suppress a smile. “Still, you said all that, and I’m sure it took a lot, so I’m proud of you.”
“Whatever, he probably wasn’t even listening.” Dean looks down, he felt better, now he was nervous because what if Cas WAS listening? Well, no matter the outcome, he felt like a great weight was lifted off his shoulders.
“Geez, I honestly hope he was…”
_The next day_
Dean wakes up to ‘Highway to hell’ on his alarm and jumps as he sees Castiel sitting next to him on his bed.
“Hello, Dean…”
Dean tries to shake off the bewildered look on his face.
“For fuck’s sake, Cas, you’re gonna give a heart attack one of these days.” The bow-legged beauty mumbled nervously, blocking last night’s confession from his thoughts.
“Umm… Sam… has found us a case.”
“Oh.”
Dean stares at his bedsheets, trying to figure out what to say, maybe Cas doesn’t know, maybe he wasn’t listening last night, the thought gave him some comfort, but it didn’t last long.
“Is it true?” The angel spoke, making Dean look at him.
“...Is what true?” He starts to panic, but hides it pretty well, or at least that’s what he thinks.
“Are you alright?”
“Is what true, Cas?” He insisted, sitting up.
“Perhaps it’s better if we talk about this later.” Cas seemed genuinely concerned.
Dean got up, pushing the blue-eyed beauty out of the way. He left his bedroom, walking to the library.
“Good morning!” Exclaimed Sam, looking at his brother, trying to figure out what he was thinking. He seemed troubled.
“Hey, what do you got?” He sat down.
“A man and a woman died a week ago in Belgrade, Montana.” Sam adjusts himself in his chair so he faces his brother.
“Sam, I don’t know how to tell you this, but men and women die all the time.”
“How many of them die because their organs melted?”
“Whoa. Okay, that looks like our kind of thing.Wait for you in-” Dean gets interrupted by the sound of his brother coughing. “You okay?”
“Hmm I’m sick. I have a really nasty cold. I’ll be alright, but I need to rest for a few days. Think you can handle this one?”
“Alone? You’re gonna let me work a case involving witches, alone?” Dean grinned at Sam.
“You won’t be alone.” Says Cas, walking into the room, catching the Winchesters attention. “I’ll go with you, Dean.”
“Well, what are you guys waiting for?”
Dean goes to his room to pack some things, Cas sits down asking Sam details about the case. No more than 20 minutes later, Dean and Cas are sitting in the Impala on their way to Montana. After a while, probably a couple hours, they stopped for 5 minutes to get food, and got back on the road. The tension inside Baby was almost palpable.
“Dean, are you alright?” Cas finally spoke, surprising Dean, who almost choked on his soda.
“Peachy.” He said, cold.
“What’s the matter, Dean?”
“Nothing, Cas! Nothing.” He almost yelled.
Castiel didn’t respond, Dean was angry at him, he could sense it; but he didn’t know why. He couldn’t remember doing anything wrong. He wanted to push Dean, find out what was going on and fix it, but he knew doing that would just make things worse. So he didn’t say anything, and neither did Dean until they got to the morgue.
“Brace yourselves, fellas. This is a nasty one.” Brian, the doctor, a pale, tall guy with dark brown hair and eyes, stated, showing them one of the bodies.
“Thanks, we’ll take it from here.” The doc nodded, going back to his office.
Brian wasn’t lying, it was a nasty one. The only thing left of the corpse was skin and bones, the skin was burnt and thin so it basically just looked like a skeleton.
“What could’ve done something like this?” Cas asked but was ignored by the human, who immediately made a phone call.
“Sam, you were right. It looks witchy. Yes. I don’t know. What did you find out?” He starts walking out and Castiel follows him. “What? So you think mad wife? Or jealous boyfriend?” He got inside the Impala. “Okay, we’ll see if we find any hex bags. I’ll let you know. Alright.” Dean hangs up and looks at Cas. “Apparently Alex and Olivia, the human skeletons, were having an affair. Sam thinks the wife is guilty, so let’s go question the widow.”
That’s it. That’s all he said. After all those hours ignoring Cas, that’s the first thing he said. Cas was getting frustrated, he wasn’t going to leave things like this, he was going to get answers out of Dean even if he had to tie him to a chair and interrogate him. But that had to wait until after they were done talking to the suspect.
“Good afternoon, ma'am, I'm agent Perry and this is my partner agent Mendez. We're here regarding the death of your husband, Mr.Green?” Cas took the initiative this time, while Dean stared at him.
“Please, come in.” The widow was a nice woman, she had black curly hair and piercing green eyes, she looked sad. She signed for them to sit down. “Tea?”
“No, thanks, we're fine.” Dean sat down, Cas noticed he was being cold, well, more than usual.
“Please, I insist.”
“I said-”
“We would love some tea. Thank you, Mrs.Green.” Cas was getting on Dean's nerves and he knew it.
Mrs.Green smiled, serving them tea and sitting in front of them.
“Can I use your bathroom?” Dean got up as Mrs.Green nodded. When he was kind of far away he started looking for hex bags, old grimoires, cat bones, anything witchy. After a while of not finding anything, he gave up and went back to the living room where he found Cas sipping on the tea Mrs.Green had served them, looking miserable. “Well, I think it's time for us to go. Thank you for answering my partner's questions.” He said, heading towards the door.
“Wait, aren't you going to try the tea?” Mrs.Green was making puppy eyes, which didn't affect Dean but he went back and drank his tea just to get it over with.
After a couple minutes they were in the car driving to a motel.
“Dean.” Cas called his name, but he didn't answer. “Dean!” He almost yelled this time.
“What?!”
“Nothing. Ugh. You can be so frustrating sometimes.” Said the angel, looking out the window.
“What did you say?” Dean was suddenly interested in the conversation.
Castiel didn't say a word, he just kept looking through the window. If Dean thought he could ignore him all day and then demand answers, he was wrong. Two can play this game.
“Cas, what did you say?!” He insisted. When he realized Cas wasn't going to respond, he left him alone until they got to the motel.
After checking in, and getting to their room, Dean grabbed Cas’ arm.
“What was that you said back in the car?”
Pulling away from Dean, Cas walked to the bed and sat down. “I said you're frustrating.”
“Me? Frustrating?! You're the one who can't take a fucking hint.” He snapped.
“What are you talking about?” Castiel tilted his head to one side, trying to understand what the human was saying.
“See?! That's what I fucking mean! Ugh.” He walked to the bathroom. “I'm gonna take a shower.” Dean walked inside the bathroom, closing the door behind him.
“Oh, no, you don't get to walk away from me. This conversation is not over!” The angel got up, opening the bathroom door and finding a shirtless Dean Winchester looking at him.
“Fine. Talk.” Dean crossed his arms over his chest.
Cas stared at him for a few seconds before remembering how to english. “You've been ignoring me all day. Why?”
“I have a boner right now.”
Castiel's face turned red and before he knew it he was looking down. “What?”
Dean walked out of the restroom in panic. “I don't know why I said that. What the hell?”
“I would like you to show me.” They stared at each other's eyes, Cas looked terrified and he instantly covered his mouth. “I didn't mean to-”
“Last night, did you hear me?” Dean sat down, he was starting to figure out what was happening.
“Yes” Cas got serious, he sat down in front of Dean, he still didn't know what was going on, but Dean seemed calm, which instantly made him calm down.
“And… How do you feel about it?” The human looked down, embarrassed.
“About what you said?” Dean nodded. “I… Why are you asking me this?” Cas wanted to tell him everything, the way he felt when Dean was close to him, that feeling in his stomach, something he'd never felt before, how he had the desire to kiss him every time they were alone, how he made him nervous, how he had awakened these feelings that were hard to hold back, and how he lived in constant fear of losing him.
“If you heard me last night, then you should know why I need to know how you feel.”
“I…” Cas got up, walking up to Dean. The human didn't move a single inch, losing himself in the angel's eyes as he got closer. Dean felt something he hadn't felt in a long time: butterflies. His hands started shaking and he held his breath. “I feel the same way.” With those words he grabbed Dean's face and kissed him. Dean closed his eyes, he had been waiting for that moment for what felt like an eternity. What started as a sweet kiss soon became the beginning of a make out session. Cas started kissing and biting Dean's neck.
“I want you on top of me” The human said between moans, Cas made him feel like a teenager all over again.
“As you wish” The angel smiled as his eyes shined with lust. Those feelings he kept trying to push back came rushing out. He took his shirt off. “Stand up.” He ordered. Dean happily obeyed, but he wasn't standing for long. Cas pushed him on the bed and climbed on top of him, licking down his chest and belly, stopping right above his belt as Dean lightly pulled his hair. It was finally happening.
_The next day_
“Shhhh” Cas said from the bed when he saw Sam was about to scream.
“Oh my god. I can't believe it worked!” Sam's voice was high, like he wanted to scream, he looked like a fangirl.
Cas got up, carefully placing Dean's head on the pillow. “What are you talking about?” He gave Sam a hug.
“There was no case.” He grinned. “Well, there was, but Rowena took care of the witch. I lied to you guys. I'm guessing you drank the tea?”
“The tea!!”
“It was some kind of truth potion, right?” Dean said weakly from the bed, waking up.
“Yeah, Rowena did it. After I asked her, of course.” Sam smiled. He could sense that his brother was happy.
“Rowena? She could've killed us!"
“Cas, it's okay, we're fine.” Dean got up and tapped Cas’ shoulder.
“That's a risk I had to take, I was tired of the tension... Oh, shit I gotta go!" Sam started walking towards the door.
“Where you going?” Dean looked at his brother.
“To call Charlie, she's gonna wanna know” Sam grinned and walked out. “Casdean is real!!” Dean and Cas heard him scream from the hallway and laughed.
“Damn right it is.” Dean said before kissing Cas’ forehead.
THE END.

Heartbreaker(G-Dragon-BigBang)
Requested by: Emily
~I don't give in no matter what I'm still useful, I haven't died yet. Only you caused this damaged body, broken dreams, missing heart. If it's for you, this one body will fly for; it will run to where you are but still you say "goodbye, goodbye" to me~
"Jiyong-ah!!" You shouted up the stairs to your husband, you had to fight the urge to go up there and pull him down here yourself because you agitated since this was the fifth time you called him. "Kwon Jiyong!"
You heard footsteps hurrying down the stairs and glared at your husband as soon as he came in front of you. "What? Why do you look like your pissed?" He asked you, suddenly becoming nervous which made you glad.
Good, you thought. He should be nervous. "What is this?" You asked him as you showed him your phone, making sure to watch his face to see his reaction.
"Uhm," he looked between you and the phone not knowing what to say, "Me at a jewelry store?"
"Exactly. What were you doing a jewelry store?" You asked confused since he had never gotten you any jewelry, except for your wedding ring and engagement ring he had never even gone in a jewelry store.
He visibly gulped which confused you even more. "Uhm, I was getting something for a friend."
~You say you don't like me, what's the reason why? Your annoyed expression that gives everything away makes me sad. But even if I still like you and asked you for a chance, I don't like the cold look in your eyes when you turn away~
"A friend?" You said, not believing one word. You refrained from rolling your eyes even though you knew he was lying, you had a bad attitude when you were upset or mad and when it wasn't at him Jiyong loved him but when it was directed at him he hated it.
"Uhm, yes. A friend. That's okay, stop hounding me." He told you as he walked past you and into the kitchen.
You were taken back by his tone and rushed to follow him. "Excuse me?" Time to bring the attitude, you thought as you glared at his back. "I was not hounding you, I asked you one time and I was just trying to figure out why you were there. You've never gone in a jewelry store before so why now?"
"Just drop it, okay? Jeez get off my back," he turned and screamed at you.
You sighed, shook your head, then turned and started walking away. "Fine, I'll be in my room. Feel free to sleep on the couch," you muttered as you walked up the stairs and stalked to your bedroom slowly.
You were upset because Jiyong has never raised his voice at you before, of course the fights you two had were bad but never bad enough to where you screamed at one another. You guys always talked through it and never yelled, it was something both of your close friends envied of your relationship. You were also curious though, what the hell is it that made him so touchy on the subject?
~You're my heart heart heart heart heartbreaker. What did I do wrong? You're my heart heart heart heart heartbreaker. No way, no way. Even if you say you'll leave me, I won't be able to acknowledge it, let's see how well you live. Lovers and haters, this is-this is-tiresome, unsteady. You think lowly of my love? [No way]~
You awoke by someone shaking you lightly, making you sit up and rub your eyes. You didn't even remember falling asleep to be honest. Looking up you saw Jiyong standing by the bed and looking down at you with remorse in his eyes. Sighing, he sat beside you as you scooted over on the bed to make room for you and grabbed your hands.
"Jagi, I'm sorry I yelled. I had no right to do that, I know you weren't hounding me but I got really aggravated."
"Ji, what the hell is going on?" You asked flat out, you wanted to get to the bottom of all this crap. Figure out what exactly he was hiding from you.
"I'll tell you, but first forgive me?" He asked as he looked at you with his famous pout and puppy dog eyes. You sighed and ran a hand over your face, you had forgiven him the second after he yelled but you couldn't let him off so easily.
"Hmm~" You said, playfully pretending to consider it. "I don't know."
"Ja~gi~." He said with wide eyes, the pout gone and panic quickly taking over. "I'm sorry baby."
You couldn't hold back anymore so you let out a small chuckle, to which he responded by letting out a playful 'growl' and tackled you. He landed on top of you and started to tickle you since he knew that that was the thing you hated most.
"You little -" he was cut off by you hitting his face with a pillow and successfully stopping the tickling. "Yah!" He cried out as he grabbed the pillow and started to hit you with it. You laughed as you realized where this was headed and grabbed your own pillow for protection, than braced yourself as Jiyong started to hit and everything escalated very quickly to a pillow fight.
~Everyday the same question, you say that I have changed. Will you shut your hateful mouth? Speak after you know who you're talking to. I'm now out of control, continually all alone in that place is where it's "goodbye, goodbye"~
"How the hell are we still so childish when we've been married for 9 years?" You asked your husband as you looked up at the ceiling in astonishment and slightly out of breath. Both of you had ended the pillow fight but hitting each other in the face at the same time, then you both had collapsed onto the bed beside each other and just stared at the ceiling.
"Because that's just how we are," he said as he started to laugh.
You turned your head to the side and admired your husband, it still surprised you to this day that you were married to a man who could still make your heart skip a beat when he smiled. He was a very handsome man and to add to it he was an idol, known worldwide, and that surprised you as well. You never knew the true reason as to why he had asked you on a date that one day but you were still thankful for it, it led you two to have an amazing marriage.
"Creeper," he stated not even looking at you but he felt your gaze. You hit his arm and turned your gaze back to the ceiling, but it was cut off as Jiyong's smirking face came directly above yours. "I never said you had to stop," he murmured as he leaned down and kissed your cheek.
"Please, your ego is too big as of now and if I make it any bigger I'm worried it might make your head burst." You giggled as he put his hand, the one that wasn't holding him up, over his chest as if you had wounded him with your words.
"That is offensive, I think I have to teach my dear wife a lesson."
You narrowed your eyes in suspicion, "You tickle me, I will kick. Capiche?"
He smirked and rolled his eyes, "Relax I'm not going to tickle you."
Your eyes narrowed even more and you looked to him with confusion while he kept smirking. Eventually you rolled your eyes and pushed him off of you, no longer worrying about his threat to 'teach you a lesson' since you knew he wouldn't ever do anything that could harm you.
"Get dressed," he instructed as he got off the bed and walked towards you. "Oh and," he grabbed your hips and pulled you closer to him. Leaning down he whispered in your ear, "Wear something nice. I'm taking you out." You watched as he walked out the doorway whistling, he had just walked out the room before he turned and looked to you. "I'll give you 20 minutes, darling."
~You say you don't like me, what's the reason why? The anger in your voice that gives everything away makes me sad. But even if I still like you and asked you for a chance, I hate the cold smile you have when you turn away~
20 minutes?! You screamed in your head as panic slowly started to creep in. You were wearing comfy weekend clothes and the only thing you had done to your appearance was brush your hair and teeth and put deodorant on. You never usually took that long to get ready, sometimes you even finished before Jiyong which amused you, but he told you to dress nice! You couldn't just look like you were rushed, that butthole.
Twenty minutes later and you were standing downstairs as your husband helped you put your jacket on since it was chilly outside, and you didn't know how you did but you had managed to look put together and you had straightened your naturally wavy hair. You were actually more surprised at the fact that your hair actually cooperated with you since it always 'rebels'. Honestly, you were just praying that it wouldn't start to frizz or mess up.
Jiyong looked very handsome, as always, in his dress pants and nice white button up shirt. You admired his looks and smiled to yourself, watching as he put his nice jacket on over his outfit. He smiled and grabbed your hand before he led you out of the house, locking the door behind you. You two got in his car and he turned the radio on, a smile instantly lighting your face as a rookie group's, that you were currently obsessing over, song came through the speakers. Expressing your joy and making your husband laugh, you started to sing and dance along to the song.
He looked to you every couple of minutes and was thankful that you were his, that he could grow old with you. Eventually you successfully persuaded him to join in and he started to sing along with the song as well, making you laugh. You were having so much fun the whole car ride that you didn't even notice when Jiyong pulled over onto the side of the road, outside of a very nice and well known restaurant.
"J-Ji, why didn't you tell me we were going here?" You asked as you instantly started to straighten your outfit and look in the window's reflection to check your hair and makeup.
"Jagi," Jiyong said softly as he turned you around to face him and grabbed your face. "You look amazing, don't worry."
You sighed and nodded, not believing him but agreeing for now, then grabbed onto his hand as he led the both of you inside. Which was exactly what you would picture if you stood outside looking at the building, it was so nice and the only word you could think of that would describe it was fancy. Jiyong nodded to the hostess and told her the reservation name which made your eyebrows raise in surprise. How long has he had this night planned?
~You're my heart heart heart heart heartbreaker. What did I do wrong? You're my heart heart heart heart heartbreaker. No way, no way. Even if you say you'll leave me, I won't be able to acknowledge it, let's see how well you live. Lovers and haters, this is-this is-tiresome, unsteady. You think lowly of my love? [Talk to me, girl]~
Once the hostess had led the two of you to your table she smiled in adoration as Jiyong pulled out your chair and kissed your forehead. "You two are the cutest couple that I've seen come in here," she told the both of you as she handed you your menus and took your drink orders. You felt a blush form on your cheeks and cleared your throat, looking over your menu to see what you would like.
Feeling eyes on you, you looked up and caught Ji smiling softly at you which made you raise an eyebrow at him. His smile broadened and he laughed, then looked to his own menu and decided on what he would order. Your waitress brought your drinks and wrote your orders down then took off to the kitchen, leaving you two to stare at each other. You in sudden awkwardness and Jiyong with a smile of adoration on his face.
He leaned forward on the table and grabbed your hand, taking it between his own. "I love you, you know that right?"
"I love you, too. What's wrong Ji?" You could tell he had something important to say and by the look in his eyes it didn't look like the news was good.
"I got a phone call today from my manager," he paused and you nodded, suddenly becoming confused. "And he said that he scheduled some surprise fan meetings."
"Okay.." you said slowly since you still did not know why he was telling you like this.
"And one of the dates is our anniversary," he said suddenly which made your breath stop.
You normally wouldn't have made a big deal out of it, you understand since he is an idol, but this was different. Next week you guys would be celebrating your 10 year anniversary and it was special to you, he had also sworn that he wouldn't miss this one since the past four he'd been on different tours and at different concerts performing. You stayed silent and looked to the table, it hurt you that this happened sometimes but truly you did understand.
You sighed and looked to him, "That's why you planned all of this. Isn't it?" You weren't mad, you just asked him calmly. He nodded but didn't look up which made you even more sad, so you squeezed his hand to get his attention back to you. "Ji, I understand. It's fine. And I'm happy you did this tonight, because now we can just celebrate early."
~I'll still still be there [inside your turned-off cellphone] I'll still still be there [by the mailbox in front of your house] I'll still be like that [even if you say we're strangers] I will still be there. The words, "let's be together forever" were only a moment's sweetness. Why do you act as if nothing's wrong? Hey, when I'm hurting this much~
He smiled a bright and wide smile that instantly made you realize that you had made the right choice. He's always worried about you and the both of your relationship when he had to tour or go away to different places for trips. Of course you were always bummed that he left but all of that quickly went away when he came home and the two of you talked and cuddled. It was time that he realize that you didn't think of his career as a burden but rather something that made you happy. You were happy that he was able to do what he loved and show his fans his songs and talent.
"Are you sure?" He nervously asked. "I'm sure that I could skip one of the fanmeets and -"
"Don't you dare! Those fans love you, all of you, and if you were to not show up they'd be disappointed. They buy those tickets to see all of you not just four of you."
He smiled and squeezed my hand before his eyes widened in realization and he pulled back. "I have something for you!"
"Oh?" You said softly, watching in amusement as he fought with the object he was currently trying to get out of his jacket pocket. "Sweetie, don't rip your jacket." You called out before taking a sip of your drink.
"Close your eyes," he told you as he hid whatever surprise he had for you. You did as he said and closed your eyes, feeling his open your hand and lay something that was soft yet hard in your open palm. "Okay, open them."
Your eyes opened and widened as they fell onto the velvety rectangular box that lay in your hand. "J-Jiyong, what is this?" You asked him softly, still not really wanting to open it since you were so surprised.
"It's for you," he kissed your unoccupied hand and smiled to you. "Open it up." You did as he said once more and gasped when you saw the beautiful necklace laying inside, the necklace that you had seen in the store years ago and yearned for. Teary eyed you looked up at Jiyong as he smiled softly as said, "Happy 10 years jagi."
"Happy ten years," you said before standing and meeting him at the side of the table. You brought his face down and kissed him as tears of joy spilled from your eyes and down your cheeks. "Put it on?"
You turned and waited as he fastened the beautiful necklace around your neck that turned back and brought him into another loving kiss. "I can't believe you remembered."
"Of course I remembered." He slid a piece of hair behind your hair and cupped your face gently. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
