Someone needs to do an analysis on the way the Kung Fu Panda movies use old-fashioned vs. modern language ("Panda we meet at last"/"Hey how's it going") and old-fashioned vs. modern settings (forbidden-city-esque palaces/modern-ish Chinese restaurant) to indicate class differences in their characters, and how those class differences create underlying tensions and misunderstandings.

#This is neither a criticism nor a compliment of that artistic choice #I just think it's really interesting #Like even looking at the Five:#Tigress talks in an older style than the others because she was mainly raised at the Jade Palace #While Mantis talks like Joe-schmo off the street because he *was* a streetfighter and an ordinary guy #Shifu and even Tai Lung talk like they're from an old-fashioned novel or kung fu movie #Po talks like a modern guy you'd meet working in a twenty-first century family restaurant #Part of Tigress's initial disdain for him in the first movie is clearly because she considers him to be low-class/a commoner #(And therefore an intruder into the world of the Jade Palace and the rest of the Kung Fu masters which appears to be semi-noble).#Shen looks genuinely off-put and disgusted when he has to respond to Po's greeting with a “...hey.”#And when Po wants to appear more legitimate as a warrior he adopts a more “legendary”/old-fashioned way of speaking.#In the aesthetic language of KFP old fashioned=noble/upper class and modern=common/lower class.#This translates entirely naturally—I think especially to an American audience—but it is wild once you notice it #Because you realize: “Hang on—shouldn't *all* these characters be talking like they're living in the medieval era?”#“And what does it mean that they're not? What is the movie attempting to convey with this—probably entirely subconscious—artistic choice?”#kung fu panda

I already bought christmas presents for 3/5 of the members of my immediate family this year. Let's GO!

#i'm not usually a 'plan out presents two months in advance' person because i'm a 'GUYS CHECK OUT WHAT I GOT YOU' person #but i wanted to try out jinkies glasses cloths and it was buy 4 get 1 free and free shipping over $25 #and since i wanted to get one for my little bro too it would've been $13 not counting shipping which would've been close to $5 #so spending an extra seven dollars to get five cloths for $25 was WORTH IT #mine's a donut and skyguy's (which i did give to him asap bc he's bad at keeping his glasses clean) is a used paper plate #and i got my mom the ball of yarn and my older brother the banana peel and my dad the hawaiian shirt and i'm so excited for them to see the #i'll probably do jinkies for my grandparents as well because all of them wear glasses and these cloths work pretty effectively and are #wonderfully wacky and not too expensive #and i might get another one for myself too!#anyways that just leaves skyguy and my sister to buy christmas presents for but that shouldn't be TOO hard #skyguy has always been easy to shop for because we're in the same fandoms so i always know what stuff he'd like #as for my older sister i genuinely have no idea what to get her but i'm sure i'll think of something!#anyways this has been my ramble #kazzy's diary #kazzy overshares in the tags

This is going to sound unexpectedly specific compared to my usual vague-as-fuck questions. Context being: I want money, I cannot commit to doing commissions at the moment and drawing is my only marketable skill.

If you were to buy a character "adopt" - premade design for your use, art by me and no rights retained except to like merchandising that original art - would it be a significant factor in either a positive or negative direction if the art were originally done digitally vs traditionally?

Likewise, if you were to buy a traditionally-drawn adopt, would the inclusion of the original paper-and-ink drawing be a significant benefit to you that you would consider paying more than just "base" price for?

Third, regardless of medium, would you want "scratch" papers where I did the brainstorming before the final concept was finished - this wouldn't be at any extra cost i just wonder.

Fourth, would you prefer a "flat" sale or an auction? (I like buying things at auction-style sales, and it means you might get a cheaper price than i'd normally list whatever it is for, but I am given to understand that my preferences vary from the norm pretty significantly lol) .

Fifth, would TF or at lesat mecha designs be more interesting than non-TF ones or would more general "can use this as any oc for anything" type characters be more appealing?

Ah - sixth and last, do regular ocs appeal more or less than kink/fetish-oriented ocs like "suspiciously wide-hipped lady who just so happens to have a mouth in her crotch" or stuff in that vein lol? I'm not sure I can stop myself from coming up with at least one erotic as fuck design because that's just how my brain works, but it's good to know if i should try and focus on that or leave it be and just focus on concepts that seem interesting enough to get a shape out of.

#i know this is specific. please understand i want to eat good food again.#i am not in Serious Financial Worry i simply cannot afford takeout again. my dad is going to give me money when he gets around to it but #that might be any time between now and the end of the month #and about 80% of the money in my bank account is tapped for rx payments the second i get to the pharmacy so i cant spend basically anything #if you guys respond it'd be a big help #also if anyone is interested - first design im working on is a cordyceps-possessed archer elf lady.#and im thinking to list it for around $40-50 US and +$10 and shipping for the paper version #i get a good deal on shipping these days at least. i should be able to ship overseas for like $15-20 US and not $60 or whatever #eta. #random thoughts #fnaf #rotating him in my mind like an orb or perhapps a microwavable tv dinner #love the idea of a character who for some reason has him in their house and does regular maintenance on him #someone who worked for fazbear fright and fucking. stole him #au where the place wasn't burned down and actually opened and some kid started working there and fucking took his ass #springtrap in my head is like. mostly an animal. running on instinct and ancient programming. only rarely lucid #the kid who took him oh my god. what if someone who was the sibling of one of the five missing kids stole him #and like. they know he's the man behind the slaughter and can remember him from when he was alive #and they take him and keep him running as like a form of torture. because fazbear fright was gonna be shut down and the animatronic #was gonna be destroyed or smth and they were like 'no you son of a bitch not yet'#and they can sometimes see the ghosts of the children and employees who died and henry. but like they're not done #they cant let go. not yet.#cant let him go to the beyond because that would be too merciful for a son of a bitch like him #but springtrap cant really understand whats happening and mostly just sees Some Guy keeping him running so most of his feelings #are positive #when he's semi lucid he tries to kill them #when he recognizes them from before he kind of shuts down #the range is 'friend!!!' to 'i am going to fucking murder you' to 'how did you do in pe today'#like this guy mostly isn't william afton. idk who he is but he isn't him most of the time #i imagine the springtrap suit is a unique model so its hard to get replacement parts for him so most of him is custom at this point #idk what they do with the bones. probably leave them alone for the most part out of fear of him passing on if they got rid of them #he smells like dirt and mildew and restroom deoderizer probably #i imagine their thoughts on him are 'i recognize this mostly isnt the man who killed my sibling so i dont want him to suffer'#'but also i cant handle the idea of even a little of the man who killed my sibling being able to stop suffering'#like this is william's idea of hell. complete depersonalization #they make his stay tolerable. decent maintenance. idk what kind of enrichment he needs #being kept in a basement away from regular social interaction is probably hell for any children's animatronic #so he loves when they come down for maintenance. probably rarely at first and then more frequently as they adjust themself to his presence #idk how he feels about maintenance. probably very used to the feeling of having a dude inside of him lmaooo

I like the drama the “someone has to stay” great glacier arc brings but man it’s very distracting how they never even address anyone you may have recruited to paradise after the fact

#like i always assumed the first five were the founders and thats what happi meant and anyone else is just a part timer #but thats not what the game actually says. in fact quagsires explanation makes it seem like anyone who joins is an equal member #so its a case of gameplay/story distinction which isnt terrible but it bugs me #i know its so companion mode can work in case you havent recruited anyone else after the first five #but its so easy to recruit members that i think only a small amount of players would have had that much issue #and its even more distracting when pmd2 has a similar problem with the expedition arc #and they DO clarify about pokemon youve recruited by saying theyre not guild trainees #again i think i said this but i think ill clarify in my pmdverse that most recruits are pokemon that need a home #and theyre not officially on the rescue team itself #oh but then what about my idea where kiran and eris are actually the HAPPI founders…..#ok if i go with that i might just axe this plot djfdjjd. yeah they could just hold down the fort #but there isnt the defeated obligation the actual plot has #maybe emolga gets injured and thats why he cant go… or wait maybe the pokemon feel unsafe?#like knowing all of their founders are going to be gone for several weeks #and yknow that probably makes sense too. cause the alternatives are quagsire scraggy victini and gurdurr #and two of those are former outlaws who are still very crass- one is called the punisher- and the other is just the weather guy #echoed voice #pmd posting

i found out today that i wasn't the only person on my team to get laid off, which makes me feel better. misery loves company etc

#they axed TWO people on my team of FIVE. absolute massacre #the other guy is here on a visa too so he has to find a new job in 2 months or else he gets deported #fucking awful!!!!! at least i can take my sweet time. which i intend to lmao i need a week or two to recover #i get 8 weeks severance and i'm still gonna get my annual incentive in april which'll probably be another month of salary #and i do have savings. if i'm frugal i could be fine until the end of the year #but i obviously don't want to do that lmao i'm aiming for being employed or at least close within 2 months #anyway my work bestie gave me the scoop today. she's taking over my work for me when i'm gone #my last day is the 26th and from now until then all my meetings are with her to ~*~ knowledge transfer ~*~#half our happy hour squad was laid off 😭 our friend who works at the parent company was also laid off #we're gonna go out and get trashed friday night as a last hurrah #work bestie and i are still down to keep the happy hours going lol but we'll see how the other half of the squad feels #m.txt

One of my coworkers is leaving and since hes allergic to things I don't feel comfortable cooking something for him so instead I crocheted him an octopus and a dice bag (Cause he collects dice) So hopefully he likes them
