Forgot to post this earlier but I did in fact comb the entire Vesperia script to determine how many times he uses ま/まあ throughout the game, along with a few other phrases he uses repeatedly. This counts all of main story, every single sidequest, and every single skit in the game.

Final counts were:

ま/まあ: 280

Ma/Maa; translates to "well". He uses this at the beginning of a sentence usually, but it's sometimes in the middle. "Ma" is usually more quick and snappy. "Maa" is more thoughtful and/or prolonged. Obviously it can vary based on context, but that's the general breakdown.

んじゃ and any variants: 133

Nja, along with variants such as "ja", "soreja", etc. Variants are counted when they're all used to express "let's get going", when they're about to head off ("ja" could be used in a sentence such as "ja/but then, why is xyz like this", etc). They encompass translations such as "well then" (let's get going implied. includes "so then", "then" "alright then", and so on), "we should be off", "let's get going", "let's go", etc. (not to be confused with 行こう(ikou), 行くぜ, (ikuze), and other similar versions of this phrase. That can also mean "let's go", but any instances of Yuri using that particular phrase was not counted because it wasn't a variant of, specifically, んじゃ, which is also his most common "let's go" ja variant).

おい / おいおい: 66

Oi/Oi oi; translates to "hey"/"hey, hey", though "oi" is more or less an accepted word in English nowadays.

おっと: 12

Otto (not to be confused with "oto", referring to sound); an expression of surprise that can translate roughly to "whoa there" (which is the most common translation I do see for it and what I'd use in most cases too, context of course varying). The reason I included this one despite it being so seemingly low in number is because it's not a particularly common expression, much less one used multiple times by a single character? It's so rare from anyone else, which is just a regular thing relative to Yuri and his dialogue/speech (i.e. most characters sparingly use phrases repeatedly, as compared to Yuri... as you can see lol. Other characters use these words/phrases, but nowhere near as regularly, if regularly at all).

Realized along the way I should've included やれやれ (yare yare, "good grief", "oh dear", "oh boy" etc), but by the time I realized I should have in case it was an interesting count, I was too far into the script to be able to handle going all the way back through it LOL.

No. No, I am not joking that Yuri used ま/まあ 279 times throughout the course of the game. That is to say, it could be more if I missed any, but on the assumption I didn't, that's where it stands.

Why do I love this so much? Because it's a very specific character quirk of a character I adore. I'm very fond of his repetition. Thank you.

you are actually dead on, literally when i started including jenny and manny i thought of pairing dannymanny as a funny haha jab at jimmytimmy, like wow their nicknames happen to rhyme too lol!!! then i started noticing they have a few similarities with the obvious being they both started off as teen heroes with green themed powers, their eyes turn green in their alter egos, they both have a powerful shout-based power (ghostly wail vs tigre roar)(at least manny WOULD HAVE ONE IF HE ACTUALLY LEARNED THE ROAR BUT ALAS THE SHOW ONLY LASTED 1 SEASON i will just assume he does get it eventually when he grows up). and this one is a bit funny more than anything but both Sam and Frida, the main female leads of the show, are voiced by Grey DeLisle lol

then it moved onto seeing how they contrast with eachother too, because they got the fire and ice dynamic going on, literally because manny's abilities have a fire theme while danny's got his ice core. they also contrast with their openness about their identity (danny's was kept secret, while manny being el tigre was public knowledge)

I'm going to reveal my crack theory on Nightbringer's identity soon since the brainrot is getting out of hand, but then again, it shouldn't be hard to guess based on the points I bring up for this lesson :) I'm still preparing a sideblog for that tho, so it might take a bit Also if someone wants to get tagged for these recaps, do let me know! General spoiler warning for all of Obey Me Nightbringer, as well as for the original Obey Me

⸺ SOLOMON ⸺

Solomon suddenly shows up at HoL uninvited and claims he and Simeon have plans for drinking tea together. Simeon doesn't remember ever making such plans [10-4] -> while we're not told what they are talking about, I'm guessing it has to do with 10-A -> love how he just was at Nightbringer's tea party, and now his immediate response when asked why he's here is just "......Simeon and I are having a tea party" lol

by the time Solomon arrived at HoL, Satan was already outside, yet he didn't realize Solomon came over [10-18] -> while you can argue that Satan was just so caught up in watching the cat, he does notice MC coming over, the brothers leaving to the Demon Lord's Castle, AND this is the same demon that could later tell on that MC was standing in front of his bedroom door based on the intervall of their footsteps

⸺ LUCIFER ⸺

Belphegor talks about Lucifer trying (+ failing) to hold in his laughter [10-1]. Demon!Lucifer would never :(

Lucifer seems overly reluctant to take MC with him and Belphegor at first [10-4]. When asked why, he deflects -> he was kind of quick to entertain the idea of taking Solomon with him as the 'uninvolved third party' though

Lucifer seems surprised that Belphegor was denied entry to a shop back when they first arrived in the Devildom [10-6; pic below] -> since this treatment from the denizens was part of the reason Mammon wanted to gain the title of 'Rulers of the Underworld', you'd think that Lucifer would be aware of this kind of treatment happening in the first place...

it's raining, which reminds the brothers of the day before the Great Celestial War + according to Lucifer, it was unusally quiet [10-9]. The brothers talk about what everyone was doing that day:

Belphegor was napping in a tree and was all alone that day [10-11] Beelzebub was off in the human world to run an errand on Michael's behave [10-11] Asmodeus was taking a bath, and thinking of ways to get out of Raphael scolding him later on [lesson 10 hard mode] we don't get any comment on Satan, but he was obviously still part of Lucifer, so uh... Would have been interesting to know if he has any fragments of Lucifer's memories of that time tho Leviathan and Michael were taking a walk and talking [lesson 10 hard mode] Mammon was tasked with covering Beelzebub's gatekeeping duty, but he ended up skipping out of it [lesson 10 hard mode] and then there's Lucifer who was......somewhere. The game doesn't tell us what he was up to, but instead points out that no one knows where he was [lesson 10 hard mode; pic below]

Lucifer hogging the family braincell as usual and immediately realizes that, yep, MC has the Ring of Light [10-16] -> btw kind of unrelated but I do find it funny that out of all the characters to (originally) head to the Demon Lord's Castle to free Beel, it was MC and Luci & Belphie. You know. The only two brothers that wanted to attack MC once they found out that they are a human. Imagine what would have happened if Mammon, Levi and Asmo hadn't shown up lol

⸺ SOLOMON & "NIGHTBRINGER" ⸺

[hi, this is probably the only time I'm bringing the Japanese version into this recap simply because I already translated this specific scene here]

illusion!Diavolo and illusion!Simeon pressure Solomon into choosing either demons or angels. Solomon chooses the secret third option :) [10-A] -> since this illusion was most likely created by Nightbringer, we can assume that he wants Solomon to either choose his side (whichever that may be), OR to simply abandon humanity altogether -> a little later on Solomon implies that Nightbringer should know by now that Solomon won't ever waver on his convictions -> Nightbringer knows Solomon well enough to know that threatening MC's safety might get him to change his mind. Solomon does stop smiling at this threat, so he does seem to take the threat seriously

during the illusion tea party, Solomon says that he just wants to be free, and that that's part of his agreement with "him" [10-A] -> while we don't know for certain, I'm guessing his agreement is with Nightbringer since it would make sense narrative-wise

Solomon also tells Nightbrignger that he sounds like a demon [10-A] -> sounds like something you'd either say to someone who isn't a demon, or someone who only recently became a demon

Nightbringer says that Solomon is acting more like a demon than he is because of his arrogance [10-A] -> Solomon then says that it is inevitable that he behaves like a demon since Nightbringer made him to the person he is today

Two fun facts about the Japanese version! 1. Nightbringer uses 「傲慢」 for 'arrogant', which also happens to be the word used in the game for the deadly sin 'pride' 2. instead of saying "you're the one who made me who I am today", Solomon says that Nightbringer is the one who reduced him to what he is now

when Solomon calls Nightbringer......'Nightbringer' (lol), he actually puts his name in quotation marks in the Japanese version [10-A; pic below]. Makes you wonder if he actually is the historic Nightbringer we learn a little of later on, or if it's just someone using that name...

MC one again absorbs the brother's magic in order to calm down Beelzebub [10-16]

⸺ STRANGE FEELINGS & SOUP ⸺

beast mode Beelzebub is heading to the colosseum, and Lucifer points out that it was build on the exact spot the brothers first landed in the Devildom [10-13]. That was a year ago. Why is it built already??

Leviathan points out that the Great Celestial War feels like a really long time ago [lesson 10 hard mode]

⸺ THE 'MC IS HUMAN' SITUATION ⸺

[hey, we finally reached the reason I wanted to make this its own category, whuu!]

so here's the thing:

1. back in lesson 8, Diavolo said that while he is now fairly confident that MC is indeed a human, he still can't be 100% sure because there is "something else" within MC [8-1; first pic below] 2. back in OG season 3, fairy illusion!Lucifer asks MC what they are. If MC answers that they are an angel, illusion!Lucifer says this that he knows when he is in the presence of an angel, but also admits that there is something else within them and that he can't say so for certain [OG 52-5; second pic below]

THE REASON I'M BRINGING ALL THIS UP is because now in lesson 10, Lucifer once again mentions being able to tell when he's in the presence of an angel. This time, however, he indirectly claims that he can tell that MC isn't one [10-16; third pic below]

⸺ RECORDS OF A BANSHEE ⸺

Beelzebub managed to escape from his prison cell and we learn about the state he is in [10-9; pic below]. Once again, it seems like too big a reaction for just hearing the word 'banshee'

we also learn that Beelzebub's rampage started right after the brothers left earlier [10-9; pic below]

Barbatos actually blames the brothers for Beelzebub's escape [10-9] and I am inclinded to believe him because:

1. Solomon was (supposedly) with him earlier, meaning Barbatos would have known had Solomon tried to pull something. And yet he is blaming the brothers 2. while Solomon could have just been sneaky & teleported away right after putting some kind of spell/curse on Beelzebub, the other characters mentioned last lesson that Beelzebub was already acting beside himself during the dinner party, meaning it must have been someone who was also at the dinner party. From what we know, Solomon was with MC at the time 3. while it could have been both Solomon AND Barbatos, I seriously doubt that Barbatos was involved in this situation in any way. Diavolo is already in a lot of distress because of suddenly having to govern the Devildom, MC's situation, Lucifer's comment last lesson and so. much. more. The Beel situation right now just causes Diavolo even more stress, and doing something like that just feels COMPLETELY out of character for Barbatos 4. speaking of seeming out of character, it's not like Barbatos to just baselessly accuse others like that, meaning he probably had a solid reason to blame the brothers 5. I am reaching with this one, but I like the idea lol--Diavolo still has the ability to tell lie from truth, and while Belphegor vehemently denies having played any part in Beelzebub's escape, Lucifer never outright says so

they suddenly start arguing that Beelzebub is acting like this because he's hungry [10-13] -> thing is, we later learn that he's lacking his "demonic disposition" and that the hunger he feels is all No. 6's doing. So unless No. 6 suddenly decided to go all in that can't be true

Belphegor tells MC a little more about Lilith + we get Michael lore (he looks like a jellyfish :] ) [10-1]

Belphegor also tells us that the Celestial Realm forbids angels from intervering with a human's life [10-1]

About language brainrot. Imagine writer creator reader who finally learns how to write in Teyvat's weird symbols and they want to publish their book. They decided to do it anonymously to avoid the "aaaaaah our creator wrote the holy scripture" sort of situation. Except it didn't work. The reader's style is too different from the rest of the world, so even if they tried to simulate the flowery speech it wasn't effective.

Another thing. Reader who decided to read some local books to practice their reading. They asked for something simple and similar to their speech. But the only books merely similar to it are 2000 and more years old. It's funny how the older text is the more you can understand it. On this note. If reader write something i feel like it would be hard to understand for Teyvat's people.

Imagine a reader who is autistic or has any other NDs imparing their communication skills. They practically trained themselves to say sertain phrases in sertain situation. But it doesn't work in Teyvat. And everything just stacks at each other. Difference in speech, being a God (so people react weirdly to you), bad communication skills, not understanding nonverbal cues and so on. There's gonna be a lot of misunderstanding. I imagine how followers would walk on the eggshells not to upset and angry their God and reader who does the same not to say something people will get wrong. Again.

Reader who regained all their memories of creating Teyvat, they're super powerful and stuff. But they still struggle with the modern language. Because all the memories are like millions years old.

ANYWAY HERES THREE WAYS ON HOW I WOULD REWRITE GRAY'S WRITING IN THE STORY

Okay so if you don't know I'm a bit critical on the handling of gray cuz there is sm potential and some decent execution in the series, as with Carmen sandiego's writing in general which fumbled hard in the end

Anyway I decided to think of three rewrites that would do better with writing gray's arc, starting from a total refresh from the start of the series to whatever was left in the final season

Season 1: why write character when u can slap on amensia instead

So if I were in charge of writing gray with what was set up in pilot and where his arc would go ... I might ditch the amnesia all together. Amnesia is already quite the narrative and character weight, and to give it to such a conflicted character like gray only adds to how much of a mess he is (love him tho). Gray starts in the first episode complex enough, even more so than the other characters I'd argue:

He's a character working for vile and clearly disregards any sort of moral compass, making him so clearly opposed to Carmen. But due to their past bond, he simply can't pursue his own self interest like he normally would, hesitating and stalling his decision by allowing Carmen to speak her side. It's quickly shown and immediately makes him compelling.

But then a cartoon anvil drops on his head and just gives him amnesia, rendering his screen time for the next three seasons basically replaced with a different character

So solution? Ditch the amnesia plot and just pursue what makes him interesting. Keep him conflicted by acting as a sorta regular vile operative like tigress, but have him gradually throughout his appearances having a change of heart

... No not in morals lol, but in his final conviction in hurting carmen. which was his "redeeming moment" in season 4, where he prioritized Carmen over himself and refused to hurt her himself and then later, not stand by to see her get hurt.

They can be more lighthearted capers like in early seasons where team red and gray have to personally work together, both very reluctant. In this time, Carmen can feel some melancholy and nostalgia for their previous, uncomplicated relationship while gray may start to have doubts in his loyalty.

That way u don't rob gray of his agency throughout while still hitting the main emotional beats. He will only be betraying vile likely on the end for his selfish reason to help Carmen over his allkes, solidifying his gray morality

Season 3: Why is there a season long Halloween special in my Carmen Sandiego show?

This is going to painfully unlikely, but it is a quick fix all things considered.

Season 3 to me is the biggest detriment to the show overall, wasting time as well as introducing unnecessary plot lines (Julia and chase breaking up for a bit, it was maybe needed but not at all well executed), all the while forgetting other plot threads (Carmen's search for her mom and her betrayal of acme, vile supposedly getting even more against Carmen)

But it seems it was meant to be some harmless Halloween special to entertain fans ... All the while putting some plot details that can't be skipped over ... (ie Julia and chase split)

Anyway let's say we're approaching season 3, and it's meant to be all spooky and stuff. We've already written two seasons of graham stuff so now what? Well just make the side plot of s3 abt gray recovering his memories, essentially moving his plot in the first half of s4 back to s3

There is some horror in gray's situation at the start of s4, so maybe it can run parallel to the general Halloween vibes of the arc, but where carmen's arc is more light hearted spookiness, gray's can work as a serious plot beat in between (also gives vile more to than just sitting around in costumes)

Change the s3 finale to be more like the Himalayan episode, where somehow Carmen is confronting gray, however brief, and gray reaffirms his alliegence back to vile. That way s4 has gray concretely back at vile, reducing how back-to-back his switch ups are in s4

Not elegant but can keep interest in s3 afloat (at least for me)

Season 4: welp we're out of time ...

Okay now we're in too deep. We've written it where gray has to both regain his memories (can't have him be an amnesiac forever lol) and then return to vile to affirm his moral "grayness" but ALSO ALSO redeem himself by snitching vile to acme ... All in a shortened season

Oops ...

Truthfully it's such little screentime left idk what they really had left if they wanna maintain gray's allegiance to both vile and carmen

So ditch it! Instead of having it during the Himalaya confrontation end with gray choosing vile, have him choose team red

Have it where during the reunion between the two and their ensuing conversation, gray expresses way more reluctance in his choice (and def not piss Carmen off by unintentionally undermining her lol) so Carmen won't immediately choose to blow up the building. Have her instead acknowledge gray's choice to remain in vile but offer him a card or something with contact info, something like that. Gray takes it and without it being said, it's clear he is taking her side

the two taking cover as Carmen explodes the building. But before Maelstrom can appear, Carmen takes her leave, leaving gray behind to seem like he chose vile.

Gray will hide the note and play along, essentially being the mole in vile for team red. This way, when Carmen gets kidnapped, gray can immediately give team red the intel, making sure team red doesn't get reduced to this like confused wreck that they are in the actual show.

It also avoids gray getting involved with acme again, and since I think Carmen took acme's files or something at the end of s2, they can have ivy, as the tech girl, make the memory device herself. It helps give way more agency to Zach, ivy, player, and shadowsan since now they know in advance what happened to Carmen, making them way more proactive.

Change the finale from there but I think it better balances out gray as well as the other characters

Okay so it's easy for me to say all this now in retrospect (and maybe I'm misremembering details...) but yeah I just felt like there were many ways this show, with it's limited time, could've been more sensible in its choices rather than wasting them. If the writing for even one character was tighter, I feel like a lot of other plot beats would've fit in better too

Or I'm just overly fixated on gray who knows lol also im too lazy to revise sorry if this is just garble

My thoughts on Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 (Spoilers)

Hi guys! I have reached astounding levels of brainrot over this season (having rewatched Polin scenes until I am blue in the face) so here I am going to air my thoughts out in probably an incoherent manner. Thank you!

Off the bat:

. Amazing, stunning, beautiful chemistry. Nicola and Luke are really the fucking MVPs. Their chemistry is undeniable to the point where I NEED MORE. It kind of seems like they didn't have enough scenes together, but maybe it just felt that way because of all the other plotlines going on.

. Speaking of plotlines, I am sorry to say that I found all of them unnecessary and dull. I just wanted more Polin, I couldn't stand the Featherington drama, Mondrich drama, Queen drama, or even Bridgerton drama. Francesa's story was probably the most significant, but I felt it was still very dull!

. However, that won't turn me off from loving this season because I have been waiting EONS for Polin to get together! Someone needs to sedate me!

. LET'S TALK ABOUT COLIN "MANWHORE" BRIDGERTON. I have to say that while I was with everyone else when the news broke and hated the idea, I honestly did not mind it. I found it a good and impactful way to show the difference between meaningless sex vs actual intimacy and love. I liked that Colin was exploring himself and thinking he had to be more "manly" like society dictates, but that his genuine and deep connection with Pen (literally his only real friend aside from his siblings) made that pale in comparison. I LOVED how he was trying to get it off at the brothel but couldn't even GET IT UP when having a threesome. That made me laugh! I was like DAMN girl Penelope you did a number on this man. He is Colin "17 cities" Bridgerton yet ONE kiss from a virgin is enough to turn his world upside down and make him question everything he knows???? Hmmm yeah more of that please.

. Oh, carriage scene. If I loved you less I might be able to talk about you more. I can only say that I've broken my rewind button. It’s got CRACK in it. COLIN'S FACE when he realizes that THIS is the woman I will devote myself to for the rest of my life. He is done with his gallivanting ways and wants to literally just be with one woman for the rest of his life. I feel like without his promiscuous ways and bravado in the earlier episodes, this realisation would not hit as hard. It's no longer just the puppy love that he had with Marina, or the vacant lust he had with other women on his travels, but a true, real, meaningful connection that makes him LOSE HIS MIND. I like that that distinction is VERY clear and leaves no room for doubt that he is CHOOSING her.

. I love that he is “experienced” and that she isn't, but she’s able to bring him to his knees with one kiss! That dynamic is always tea, I fear! Also, I LOVE that my girl Penelope is able to get her needs met by someone who KNOWS what he’s doing. I don’t know what people are saying by “they have no chemistry.” To me, they have chemistry falling out of their ass!

. That being said, I am so scared about the LW reveal!! Holy shit, they are engaged and she still hasn't told him!! Which is different in the books. But LW is different in the show + the Marina thing didn't happen in the books. However, I love that they made LW less scathing in this season. She actually compliments all the debutantes and is really more of a reporter over a tabloid (except for that little thing she wrote about Colin, lol! But she was right!). I feel like Colin's hatred for LW is a little overstated. LW saved him from being trapped in a loveless marriage full of lies. I am shaking to see how this goes! Bring on the angst!

. I actually surprisingly liked the Cressida and Eloise friendship, I liked how it became a vehicle to show another side to Eloise, a more tolerant, compassionate, and realistic side. I loved Eloise and Pen's relationship this season. While they are fighting, they still love and try to protect each other. It's really the secondary love story of the season. We love to see it. I just hope Eloise doesn't fuck with her too much in part 2! (Btw, hate that this season is split into two parts! How am I going to wait until June 13th??? Tf???)

. Also, am I the only one thinking that they are building to Cressida having feelings for Eloise? Their connection and Cressida's sincerity towards Eloise is a little too real. I feel like by going into her stifling home life, they are inching towards that. Also, I am guessing that Cressida will end up marrying Debling, who will be gone so much and won't put any demands on her, so it will more be a marriage of practicality that allows Cressida to explore her feelings. We shall see!

. LET ME JUST SAY I SCREAMED when Penelope put her hand in Colin's hair. I remember in an interview Nicola saying that it was her idea to do that. THANK THE HEAVENS FOR THIS WOMAN !!!!! Because that was actually the hottest part of the season, there I said it. I CHEERED!! And if that was improvised by them, then that means that LUKE'S SLUTTY FACE was also his design!! I cannot thank these two enough for their service to this country!! Also, give Nicola an Oscar right now. I have never seen a more realistic sex scene and depiction of female desire tbh (oh god the moans). Especially in Bridgerton. This was the most real and sincere sex scene they've had yet. Take all the awards!

. LET'S TALK ABOUT COLIN'S FEELINGS. I've seen some people say that the season felt off (which I understand, I think it's bc of all the unnecessary plotlines) because Colin's feelings developed too fast. Let me just say that I DO NOT AGREE. I thought this was an entirely natural and logical progression of events. Think about it. We are not watching a "friends to lovers" arc from scratch. They have had TWO SEASONS of the "friend" part. We have had to watch ignorance, rejection, obliviousness, and misunderstanding between these two. Finally, in their own season, all that groundwork (laid over multiple years) has the chance to come off. It's like a spark that finally lights the embers. Their love has been smouldering under the surface for so long and all it takes is a match (their kiss) to make it spark into flame. Colin has felt so deeply for Penelope for a long time, and indeed they are best friends. He has always admired her as a woman and friend and felt comfortable with her. It wasn't until he kissed her that he realised those feelings were much more layered than he supposed. The fact that he dreams about her and that kiss, and ends up growing regretful and jealous of helping Pen attract other men, is absolutely right. The fact that he tries to get over her by going back to brothels but it DOESN'T WORK is absolutely genius! His love and desire for her, and thereby the realization of his feelings for her, is what propels him to look into himself and find that what he has been trying to be has been a lie. It's in that scene where he's with all the other Rakes. He considers himself, at heart, to be a gentleman - unlike the rest of them, and unlike what he's been presenting. He realizes that all the escapades he had only afforded him vacant experiences. He knows the difference between shallow and real connection now. This is when he decides to stop being someone he's not and embrace himself finally, just as he embraces his feelings for Pen! It's a great moment for his character development. I will be the one to say that by the realization of his feelings for Pen, he comes to the realization of himself.

. ONE MORE THING. I have seen some viewers complain about Penelope being the one to "beg" Colin to kiss her. I think these are more new fans who don't know the books, but I am TIRED of seeing this. The fact that Penelope is finally voicing her desires to the object of her desire after never speaking her mind or asking for what she wants, IS empowering! She is finally taking control of her own destiny! Unabashedly asking for what she wants! Being truthful with herself and brave enough to voice it! That is my GIRL. I was so proud of her. It was at that moment Colin knew that he was fucked (look at his face after he decides to do it). MM HM. That is good shit. I don't see her "begging" for it to be degrading. This was a beautiful moment between two close friends who trust each other more than anything. And that was the match that sparked all those repressed and ignored feelings!

. ALSO, I do not understand why people wanted Penelope to fall on her face after the carriage! WTF? Sure, in the books it’s fine, but actually seeing it??? Do they realise how humiliating and painful that would be? I’m so glad they didn’t do that in the show (and I hope it doesn’t happen in the next part). She is TINY, and do you see that huge ass gap between the carriage and the ground? If she fell, she would scrape her whole hands and face and it would be bloody. Why do people want Pen to suffer in humiliation even more?? It would not be funny.

. ACTUAL LAST THING: I actually LOVED Colin’s dream confession to Penelope, maybe as much as the carriage confession! “I’ve not been able to sleep, to eat, to speak…these days. My entire thoughts consumed by our kiss, by you.” I just loved Luke’s delivery of these lines. Btw, that dream was horny af! 

. So, in this way, I don't really understand the complaints about Colin or Polin in this season. I thought it was very well done and well acted. The only complaint is that I needed MORE. MOREEEEE

Anyway, that's all I can think of for now. I'm afraid I have nothing to say about the other storylines because I was resisting the urge to skip them the whole time. My heart lies with Polin and that's what I am focusing on. Thank you for reading!

Miz's Mikoto brainrot #1: John's scapegoat

Alright, I told you some time ago I wanted to write something about my Mikoto theories? Here we go then. First of who knows how many (lol the brainrot is strong)

In T2 we meet John firsthand, a broken man deeply affected by guilt. He did something wrong, all to protect Mikoto, and now people are calling him guilty? Man, that must be feeling horrible. Because it's all your fault.

Or at least it's what you believe. You messed it up because you showed yourself as violent and aggressive just to protect him and he could now be sentenced to the death penalty so now you have to make up for it, by taking the blame of the crime so that he can be free.

And that's what John does. He acts as a scapegoat in front of us to make Mikoto look clean. The thing is, if John really is the culprit, things start to not add up anymore, quickly.

First of all, the rules of Milgram. We know they don't bind the body because John is free to act, both in T1 interrogation and after the end of T1. Then, why is Mikoto the affected alter and not John? It doesn't make any sense. But even if we assume MILGRAM writers overlooked this thing, John is quickly found to be a very bad liar. In T2 vd, he admits killing "just someone who was walking around nearby" and "can’t remember" how many people were, but it's hinted in T2 the murder was about someone who was ruining Mikoto's life, supposedly his boss, so it wasn't random. Also, in T1 we witness a quite meticulous cleanup, so it's hard to think it was a killing spree. One can say it happened on various occasions, but he "was first born back then", hinting there was only one timespan when the murder occurred.

And that's how he falls like a castle of cards.

Now that Mikoto got the innocent verdict, John will then "disappear", probably going dormant for T3. It might give us the chance to shed some light on the whole thing, focusing more on Mikoto. Who knows.

There’s a fond tilt to his lips as he cards his fingers through Bdubs’ hair, the sensation of the strands slipping through his fingers and the weight of the head pillowed on his chest grounding. It feels right, just so, a surety that seeps into his bones and nestles there. With Bdubs curled up on the grass beside him, face turned outwards and the sleepy smile tugging at his expression just barely peeking out from beneath the arm thrown over his eyes, the irony isn’t lost on him.

Dbhc Etho isn’t human, as much as he’s feeling and acting like one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so there’s a little nugget of angst there.

for context, they’re lying in the sun - it’s set around early season 10, maybe around when Bdubs plants the forest around his area. Seeing as Etho was made for terraforming and gardening, it would only make sense for him to be helping Bdubs out with it.

Anyway. Spending a long day in the heat to dig holes, place saplings in them and cover them over again is pretty physically intensive. So Bdubs, being Bdubs, is tired and just wants to lie in the sunshine for a bit. Who’s to say Etho doesn’t join him (he does) (Bdubs ends up lying his head on Etho’s chest)

(there’s some serious angst potential here. Bdubs missed his uh, friend, when he wasn’t around before redeviating. Maybe he cries about it. Maybe Etho has some feelings about that)

“Hey, you,” Bdubs murmurs, nose crinkling as his face stretches into a yawn, shifting the arm thrown over his eyes to open them for a few seconds and squint up at where Etho stands, blocking the rays of late-afternoon sunlight.

“Hey yourself, ‘Dubs,” he replies, unable to help the amusement creeping into his tone. Unregistered emotion detected, the notification flashes, which he ignores in favour of stuffing his hands into his pockets, raising an eyebrow at where Bdubs lies spread-eagled on the ground by his feet, well-worn soil stained gloves discarded and cast off to the side. “What ‘cha up to?” 

An incoherent “Mm” is all he gets in response, and it’s a conscious effort not to huff with laughter. The half-hearted glare from Bdubs proves the challenge impossible.

He could absolutely make a game of annoying Bdubs, Etho decides, mentally noting the thought and storing it to contemplate later. “I finished fixing your saplings,” is what he opts for instead, this time receiving a longer and slightly more coherent mumble he takes to mean as a thank you, and not a get your shadow away from me as it was likely intended.

“What was that?” He teases, putting a hand to his ear and leaning down slightly, blocking the sun further. “Is it past your bedtime?” 

Bdubs scowls as a breeze sweeps past, and had Etho been human he’d be completely caught off guard as the other reaches up to yank his arm. As it is he makes a show of stumbling, catching himself before using the connection to pivot and flop down besides Bdubs on the grass, greeted by Bdubs blinking blearily up at him, one eye open and the other shut against the brightness once again unobscured by Etho’s figure. 

“If you’re going to sit here, at least lie down, for goodness’ sakes,” he grumbles, but there’s no real heat behind the words. He resolutely ignores the way Bdubs’ touch lingers on his arm before falling back to his side. Unregistered emotion, the warning flashes. He ignores that, too.

Does it break your heart and twist your guts to see them face their inner demons all on their own and insist that it’s for the better, or do you perhaps do this and try to apply the same to them, thinking that they like you might need the space even if you crave the affection, even if it hurts more than it helps when your all alone.

Do you ever find yourself thinking: “I shouldn’t show my affection… I’m not…. I don’t deserve that right. I don’t have that right…” or “they need something better than me right now….” or “they… they don’t want me.”

Find them first. You can't exactly hold someone who isn't there. Search the space you once shared together. Look for them in the remnants of all their familiar items, their clothes, their trinkets. It's little things, things that make you want to hold them more. You can hold onto these, a feeble substitute, but ample for now. It gives you drive to find them. You need to find them. Sometimes you don't find them right away, anyways. Sometimes you find them in bits and pieces. Sometimes you find them by their fingertips, sometimes you find them by their voice. Find them regardless, and collect whatever pieces you can find. Hand, wrist.... ...head.... ...This should be enough.

Something is coming, something big is approaching, hold onto them when the shadows overtake you, when the water fills your lungs, when it pours from your face, when it drips from theirs. Hold them. It's the only thing you can do right now.

Remember that this isn't the first time it's happened. Remember that there is more you can do. More you must do.

Run. Cry. Do something. Anything. Don't just—

Muriel gasps when he clambers out from between the looming forest's trees. He holds you, shattered as you are, cradling you against his chest, as you sleep, as your eyes remain closed to all the world, as you lie in a state he cannot name in fear that it may be true, in fear that it may be real. It can't be real. If it's real he doesn't know what to do, he doesn't know what he would do.

Scream. He thinks distantly. Maybe I'd scream. If it was true... If it was true he would have screamed by now perhaps. Surely yes. He hasn't screamed yet so it's not. It's not true yet, it's not true yet. It's not true yet.

Muriel cradles the back of your head, presses his hand over the bleeding wound, tries to staunch the flow that drips down your spine. He holds you to his chest, as if hearing his heartbeat would remind yours to beat. He runs to grab the bandages.

Gauze is pressed firm against the wound, and bandages are wrapped tight around your head. Stop the bleeding. To stop the bleeding. To stop you from loosing more...

...Whatever this was.

White bandages soak black, as they absorb the fluids that drip from somewhere in your skull. Something morbid in his mind considers if it's your brains, but he knows better than that. He's witnessed it first hand, he's seen the gore before. This is something else. This is something new. It's not blood it's not gore it's—

Magic.

Inanna, behind him, stares, fur bristling and teeth bared, ears pressed flat against her neck. She snarls, eyes bright and teeth snapping and gashing at something he cannot see.

No, something he fails to pay attention to.

Blackness seeps through the bandage, it continues to drip down to the floor, running down the rivulets of your skin, the soft dents left by your spine. It flows and bubbles from in between his fingers, and for just one moment, Muriel leans back. He lets go of you—only with one arm, he still holds you by the other—to examine the fluids that drip from your wounds.

Slick like oil, he rubs the shadows from between his fingers, and watches as it lights up in a familiar myriad of colours, iridescent, lIke opal, a culmination of colours that ripple in the palm of his hand. Magic. Your magic. The Fool's magic, Asra had mentioned once.

And the stone sinks down his stomach.

He rips the bandages open but doesn’t dare tear the fabric away.

"Careful!" Inanna barks, but he can’t afford that, not now, not when something is eating your magic, not when you’re made of magic.

Asra had told him about it once, that your magic was so different in your revived state. Not only from its colour but the sheer overflowing amount of it, the endless shapes it could take, and the way once your arm had gotten caught in the midst of a spell, how the magic tore away your flesh to reveal iridescent opal beneath.

You bleed like a human, you cry, you get dizzy you have stomach aches, you have all the human parts, but this…

Perhaps it’s what ties you here, perhaps it lets you exist, but regardless of the fact, it is something you can’t afford to loose. Something he can’t afford to loose.

You.

White bandages soak black as Muriel presses the fabric against the wound. With furious motions his ands sweep down to wipe the ink off your back, to free your spine from its clutches before the shadows eat there too. Already your skin looks discoloured beneath its ministrations raw like a rash, like someone had torn up the surface of your skin, revealing softer raw layers just beneath. But thin bandages are not enough, and Muriel scrambles to find fabrics that could soak the shadows from your wound.

“Inanna” he pleads.

"Yes" she replies. And out the door she bounds, nose to the grass already searching for the plant that they need.

Something that the fae would find unpleasant. Something that would make magic reel.

But for now he needs something to these shadows away.

Muriel chucks the soaked bandages into the fire and watches for a moment as it roars in reply, casting deep shadows to leap up at the walls. He turns your back towards the light and watches as the fae leap from their hiding places scurrying away from the ferocious burn.

With the nearest cloth he can get, already clutched tight in his hands, Muriel soaks absorbs the shadows into the fabric and watches as they readily retreat into the coloured cloth.

His stomach twists just a bit as he realizes what he’s using, what’s in his hands and what now will have to be thrown into the flames. A shirt of yours, well worn and well loved, and something he’d steal to keep him company when you were away. He had stolen it now—earlier. Pilfered it from your shared pile of dirty clothes and held it tight in his arms when you had fled into the woods. When he had thought it best to give you your space, even as you sobbed, even as his chest ached knowing he was the cause.

He did this to you.

He....he knew you had been upset, he knew that you had been struggling with... Something, and yet he never asked you what it was, he never reached out, even when, if it were him, you would have reached out for him, you would have stood as an anchor for him, a place for him to think safely, a place to keep him from drowning. He knew how it felt to get stuck in his own mind, to feel so distant from any aid or help, helpless to your thoughts, foaming at the mouth with all the things you can no longer say. The fear of distain of rejection, he knows it all so, so well.

And yet, even as he saw you suffer, he sat back on his haunches and thought, maybe you need some space.

He could have asked at the very least. He could have asked.

He could have asked how you were feeling, or even just your day had been.

He could have asked where you were going.

He could have apologized.

He could have done something.

Why didn’t he ever act until it was too late?

The fabric of that shirt of yours is thoroughly soaked through. And though his stomach twists as he does it, he casts the fabric into the fire, letting it burn, and letting the fae burn along with it. The shadows leap at the growing flames but the fire itself illuminates it's surroundings, creating no shadow of it's own, no trace that would lead him to believe that the fae had somehow managed to scramble away from it's burning fate. It's a cruel fate, but he's already made the mistake of choosing your shirt over you. .

This time the next closest cloth item is one of his shirts, and Muriel is all too eager to soak this one, and cast it into the flame. A trickle no longer runs it's way down your spine, and the flow is growing noticeably slower, but Muriel's back still tickles with anxiety still fearful that he may make the mistake of letting go too soon, of lowering his guard only to let your condition get worse.

A trickle of water drips down your cheek, and warmth slowly begins to return to your limbs, sounds slowly returning to your voice, even if only in the forms of sniffles and whimpers.

"I'm sorry." You whisper, and his heart aches at the question. Do you even know he's here? Was this what you were sobbing all alone in the forest?

“I’m so sorry.” What we’re you even sorry about? He was the one to blame here. He was neglectful, he was ignorant to your stressors or… or something he did had set you off. That had to be it wasn’t it?

Perhaps you saw him and thought he was angry at you somehow.  It wouldn’t be the first time that had happened…

But didn’t you know him? Weren’t you…familiar with him by now? Or did he just…..

Hey! It’s the anon that hadn’t watched Hazbin or Helluva before and wanted some encouragement to try it out 👋 I wanted to let you know that I did it! I watched the pilots for both series as well as helluva boss episode 1 (as I heard that was a better introduction) and ����👈 I actually liked both. I thought that Charlie was cool she has an attitude that I really like in characters believing in others when she has no reason to. Angel was cute Pentious was really adorable (I like weirdos) and Husk was pushing a lot of buttons for me. The only character from Hazbin that I still don’t really get is Alastor and tbh it’s 90% cause of the hair like I can’t think he’s hot with that haircut I’m sorry 😭. But I really liked it I really took to the humour and tone. 

Helluva Boss was the same I was actually surprised that the kids dying didn’t really bother me at all and the death of background guys were not as uncomfortable as I thought. I think I worked myself up about that aspect which is good cause I liked how horny and gay it was. After seeing so much nsfw of them I do get simping for Blitzo, Moxxie and Stolas now they were all kinda cute in their own way (You can tell I’m a gay guy huh?) and yeah I liked quite a few of the jokes as well. So I feel like I can go on with these shows!

I know this is a really random place to do this but I wanted to tell you since it was seeing all the nice adamsapple stuff and the storytelling possibilities from that as well as you’re specifically more chill and fun side of the fandom that made me want to take the plunge and actually watch it so thank you.

I think I probably said this in your first ask, but well yeah Hazbin and Helluva are definitely... for specific tastes, it's not for everyone, I think if you're someone that gets offended easily they're probably not for you (which is why sometimes I'm surprised at the absolute stupid things some people say in the fandom lol) but I'm glad you gave them a try and liked them!

One disclaimer, I believe the Helluva pilot is not considered canon anymore? I'm not a 100% sure exactly what parts are canon or not, but yeah just keep that in mind.

I absolutely feel you in not understanding why people love Alastor so much LOL. I love him, I really do, but I do think he's a taaaad overrated because he scratches a specific part of tumblr people's brains. It's... hard to explain, but yeah if you don't simp for him then he's kinda just alright lol.

Steggy Week Day 1 - Meta

@steggyfanevents and everyone else pls accept my late offering of brainrot ranting into the void

Peggy's face says so much during the Endgame dance it's insane. It's such a contrast to Steve, who is very expressive yeah but he's really just showing one thing - that he's peaceful (if anything his eyesbrows are drawn in a little but it's just concentration, not any uncertainty like Peggy has). There's not as much going through his head because he's dealt with all of this already. He already wrapped his mind around every factor of what got him to this point, he's just savoring the moment now that he finally can. Peggy's only had the last few minutes. Of course whatever happened when she opened the door is up to everyone's headcanons, but he had to give her something good enough to convince her. Personally I think when they were dancing, he hadn't explained much yet. He just convinced her it was him by telling her something only he would know. He'll get to the 70 year nap and aliens and time traveling later lol I think he wanted to ease her into it as much as possible. Because the door is still open I really think it was just "Oh my god what the hell -> wait I can prove it (with something only Steve would know 100%) -> we've waited long enough for our dance -> ok but actually what the hell??" which leads to the entire explanation after they dance

Regardless of what Peggy knew while they danced, she hadn't had long to process it at ALL. And you can see that. She's not simply happy and peaceful. She's soooooo timidly happy. Her eyebrows are furrowed a little and you can tell she's trying to slow her thoughts down and enjoy the moment. Her smile isn't completely ear to ear uncontrollable. You can actually see her try to contain it a few times - it starts to get a little bigger and she stops herself. She's so used to not being able to feel this kind of pure unadulterated happiness. You can also see her keeping her chin and bottom lip stiff, like if she let go she'd break down crying. At first her eyes are open and it feels like she's looking into the corner at nothing to keep herself grounded. When she closes her eyes, her eyebrows relax a little. I think she was able to let go a little bit with her eyes closed. That's when you see her smile start to get a little wider, then she stops herself, then she opens her eyes again. Then she looks up at Steve. Like the grounding herself by looking at something or not looking at anything didn't work so she had to look at Steve.

Anyway back to her being timidly happy bc I think that's the best way to describe it. Look at this frame

(Sorry idk why the quality is so bad on youtube lol) she doesn't just look happy and teary. And I wouldn't say she looks confused either. If she were confused she wouldn't be dancing with him. I think it's just an instinct for her to limit her happiness. She looks like she absolutely can't believe this is happening but she knows she can't argue (again, or else she wouldn't be dancing with him), and like her mind is racing but she wants it to stop. This restrained happiness reminded me of something else and at first I couldn't figure out what it was but I did. Look

She's making the exact same face here except there's no genuine happiness in this one. Her smile is a little tighter because there's nothing behind it. But otherwise. It's the exact same expression. In both she's thinking of "another chance" with Steve, but when they're dancing it's real. In the AC scene it's just his blood that she felt like she had to defend. But when they're dancing ITS REAL!!! look again side by side sorry I'm going insane

Main point - there's just so much trepidation in her face while they dance. Timidly happy restrained joy etc etc. When she looks at Steve is when it starts to fade. Her eyes scan his face I think bc she's really trying to allow herself to feel happy and she's like look it's him you know it's him calm down it's him. Steve's smile just get bigger when he looks at her but he knows everything!! This frame shows her starting to relax

But when he smiles at her and she smiles back she's still biting it back a little and pulling her bottom lip in to control herself

That face is just. There's so much I feel that I should say but words can wait. Do you see the difference in how Steve is just so openly radiating joy but she's not there yet.

This is the most relaxed she gets the whole scene. She has to shut her mind off and remove herself from the situation and just feel to get to that point. She can do that when she kisses him. And that's where the scene cuts, when she is finally able to just feel and relax and live in the moment with him.

OK BUT THIS IS REALLY INTRIGUING ACTUALLY. tell me more about this 'mattkey' ............

YES ABSOLUTELY OH MY GOD

SO in episode 1 participant observation, the main character, mike walters, claims to be "investigating" a secret online game called woe.begone out of curiosity/boredom, via actually playing the game. w.bg is a series of challenges, the first being that mike had to call his ex-boyfriend and tell him the worst thing he ever did to you.

mike does this, explaining that his "lifelong best friend" (matt) had unexpectedly died in a car crash, and his ex wasn't home at the time/didn't realize how serious the situation was, so he left mike to worry alone before matt's death had actually been confirmed. he tells his ex that he doesn't forgive him and has a breakdown, then waking up the next day to realize that matt wasn't dead and there was no trace of the voicemail he left for his ex. (so, at this point, mike continues to play w.bg, with matt as his "prize")

there's several other challenges he completes, along with another old friend of theirs also playing woe.begone, but the next marker of their relationship is in episode 11 this is only temporary, when mike's woe.begone challenge is to kill the prize from his first challenge— which is obviously matt. he explains the situation, a future version of him shows up to "prove" everything to matt, and ultimately matt slides his gun across the table, mike apologizes, and tells matt he loves him. (i talk more about this in another post)

at the end of season 1, woe.begone contacts mike to tell him that he has to relocate to a government job, a place called o.v.e.r./oldbrush valley energy & resources. he does, with season 2/3 following the start of his time in the valley & continued problem-causing due to w.bg lol. then in episode 35 safehouse, he kills another character and flees o.v.e.r., driving 26 hours to matt's house. he doesn't tell him all the details of what happened, but episode 36 respite is mostly dedicated to mike talking about the few days he spent with matt ("we didn’t need to do anything other than be in each other’s company") (i ramble about matt in 35/36 here)

there's a lot of non-mattkey events that occur, lol, but it gets to a point where matt essentially wants to be involved with a time travel org mike creates called base, but mike kind of keeps him at a distance for reasons unknown (coughs. mike does have a boyfriend he meets at o.v.e.r. and not saying it has anything to do with that but i'm also not Not saying that) and in episode 84 panther, matt helps with stalking two "rogue" iterations of mike and his boyfriend edgar (and i believe this is the first episode where matt has a voice actor?) and continues to do so throughout the current point in the podcast/"about a year" in canon time.

at the end of episode 120 true story, a (drunk) mike transports to matt's house as there was a timeline they'd been in (~e104 to 120ish iirc) where matt was dead once again because of mike. mike gives matt a box of his old stuff, and matt, worrying over mike using time travel when he's drunk lol, brings mike to stay in his spare room (that he mentions he's kept open since mike was last there). mike tells matt he loves him, and matt returns the sentiment.

so YEAH. mattkey my absolute beloved. imo their dynamic is very much "knowing one another better than they know themselves" if that gives you a more direct idea jksdhfjksdf. also college-era mattkey has been brainrotting the fandom recently which might be my fault LOL but pre-wbg mattkey is SO compelling even if only mentioned in passing - i talk about college mattkey here, here, here (kind of), and here, and i wrote a short fic about them here. overall, essentially the catalyst for everything in woe.begone is literally just. matt. like... mike literally rewrites time to keep matt safe and while it's true that mike has a deep relationship with most of his friends, matt is so intrinsically tied to him in a way that nobody else is.

Sooo yeah, here's the thing, I do have a hunger games rosekiller au and now that you've asked, I'm going to yap about it and then explain where it's at.

Its called "What We Love Most". I'm not going to go deep in detail on the premise but its a Wizarding au meshed with a Hunger Games au - which means ✨️magic✨️ and it's hugely important to the plot (exactly how will remain as mystery for now)

Anyway, I made a few changes to the games - the ages of the tributes are ten to twenty, and three are chosen from each district instead of two, and there are two winners instead of one. The prize of winning isn't money - it's freedom, and a special second thing that I won't reveal.

Here's the official blurb:

Barty Crouch Jr. is twenty when he volunteers for the games. Upon entering the arena, he knows that fear is a construct–a device used to weaken your opponent. He never thought he’d be afraid of anything. Not until now.

While my main inspiration for writing a hunger games au is obviously hunger games, one of my big influences is actually the show The 100 (I know super random). But it covers many themes that I find really enticing; love, survival, death, sacrifice, instincts, etc. just like the hunger games - but on an even deeper level.

While this fic will cover all of those, the main thematic questions I aim to answer are:

1. To what extent are we willing to go for survival? and how does it define us?

2. What boundaries does hope have?

And

3. How does love factor into both?

Whenever I write a story, even a simple one shot I consider "what am I trying to say with this story?"

Sometimes I come up with the theme questions first, and then write, and sometimes they begin to present themselves as I write, kind of like with my recent fic Love Was the Law - the theme just sort of happened.

Anyway, those are the three themes I'll be exploring more. I'm really excited honestly because I love writing violence, trauma and angst - it's my forte. So a Hunger Games au will be absolutely perfect for that.
