You had a sick feeling ever since you came here. Your eyes scan the forest interior with a small reluctance. Some people reported in your emails of a potenially supernatural experience, and you were intrigued. Your mind was always captivated by the macabre and mysterious. You had a weird fascination ever since the playful stories of Bloody Mary and Charlie Charlie. You take a deep breath, inhaling the thick air of the forest as you sigh. You take a couple more steps in the woodlands, hearing the faint crushing sound of leaves and twigs under your shoes. You carry a small camera, just in case there were any spirits to capture. You pause as you hear a twig snap behind you -- whipping around only to see.. Nothing but a small squirrel scurry up a tree. You sigh in somewhat relief. You're admittedly a little nervous, anticipating any strange encounter that may lurk around the corners.
Though, you assume your thoughts to be your subconscious toying with you. You sigh and turn back around, walking deeper in the murky terrain. Undoubtedly this forest was pretty, but a subtle hint of unease settled inside. The fogged, moist atmosphere made things a bit blurry for you to see. The dark, lush flora meshed with the paranoid thoughts of someone lurking around. You are soon snapped into reality again as you see a strange sight. Your eyes widen in intrigue as you notice a weird page in the distance, hanging a few muddled feet from a rotting tree. You start to move by yourself, curiously wandering to the strange picture. It depicted a strange drawing with symbols you couldn't recognize, seemingly created with dirtied charcoal. You delicately take the page from the tree, carefully examining it. However, you accidentally smudge some of the charcoal. It left a black residue. Weird. This picture seemed to be fresh.
You collect the page as evidence, looking around to see if you can find anymore near. It was only then you hear another subtle sound of leaves crunching – making you dart to the general direction. This time, there was nothing there. Your heart starts to drop as you feel a sense of dread and paranoia. You quickly start walking in a different direction, only to see another page faintly in the distance. You felt as if eyes lingered over you, but maybe you were just being paranoid. Sometimes chills are a good thing, it means your doing something right at least. You could practically feel the paranormal air thicken as you go on to the other page. This one seemed much older in quality, only a big symbol in the middle with an eerie note; You feel a knot nervously bubble in your stomach as you read the scribbled writing. The phrase stated,
HE IS ALWAYS WATCHING
You pondered curiously. Whom might "he" be? You quickly collect yourself as you soon see something in the corner of your eye– a startling figure. You turn your head, only to find nothing there. This was strange. Not once did you ever feel such unsure paranoia. Irrational thoughts caved into your consciousness as you take the second page with a lump in your throat. Despite your paranoia and irrational behavior, you chalk it up to your nerves. Something that something in the distance was amused by. Amused, and out of sight, lies an ancient entity. He went by many names, by many legends. However, he coined "Slenderman" more infamously. He had been watching for a bit now, observing your odd behavior with a predatory gaze. As if a tiger stalking down its prey in a well forested area. Slender pleasantly toys with you, practically ogling your irrational reactions.
He had seen many mortals before; humans carelessly roughhousing his domain. He growled quietly at the thought of those leeches.. However, you were intriguing. You captivated him with the delicate ways you would handle your surroundings, how quick it was for you to shudder and shiver with nervousness. As much as he was known for his careless nature towards humans, you had certainly caught the wrong eyes. Meanwhile, you were still wandering in what felt like a conflicting trance. Both your mind and body telling you that you must go; flee… However you were lost in the mysteries and captivated by the pages. There was a sick feeling in your stomach; nausea kicks in as you feel a presence linger in the air. You spin around – your heart skipping a beat as you see a tall figure. You quickly start to flee, running as fast as you can as your adrenaline causing you to beeline to the opposite direction. What a lovely look for you to an eyes of a prowling creature.
The air becomes more thick and cold as you dart through trees, hoping to get it off your trail. Whatever it was it was not human, and it definitely seemed unfriendly. Slender catches to your pace as he patiently watches you crumble physically. You aren't too athletic or anything, but your body told you to keep going. You had scattered the pages behind you somehow during the irrational running, but you didn't look back. You kept going until you hit a rock, stumbling down a harsh steep hill. As you tunbled, you can feel the scrapes and gashes unwantedly scrape your body – only to fall a couple inches from a tree. You let out a whimper as you catch your breath, sitting upright only to be met with the being in question. You didn't want to admit it, but you were weirdly enraptured by the way he gazed at you. You were scared – no, terrified.. Though something about the way he stood so grand in front of you made you flushed. You take a shaky breath as the figure grew near.
" What might we have here… "
You gasped, surprised at the low voice that rang in your ears. You look on curiously as his voice teased. Slender looks down in a confused but curious glance as you shiver and tremble on the ground. You watch as his black, slender tendrils slide out of his back. You gulp nervously as you try moving back, only for Slender to swiftly smacks you to the tree. You yelp painfully as he pins you to the tree, your eyes betraying your focus as you watch Slender leans in closely.
" Wh– What do you want fr- from me?  "
You croak out as Slender's skeletal hands ghost around your abdomen. Even without eyes, Slender was observant to your fear. He drank the look of terror from your face, the bloodied gash along your cheek made his grip tighter on you. It wasn't long until you watch as Slender's facial skin moves. You gasp, horrified as you watch Slender's skin tear and crack. It showed Slender's mouth, sharp teeth and a long black tongue with ripped pale skin.
" I want you to be a good meal for me. "
" W- wait !! "
You shriek and squirm as he moves down to your neck, feeling his mouth open wide. A different tendril floods your mouth, unexpectedly choking you. You squeezed your eyes shut, expecting the ethereal being to take a good chomp of you… But he doesn't. Instead, you feel the slimy, wet sensations as his tongue laps at your neck. You gag on his tendril, letting out a small moan as the stinging feeling of your wounds is lapped up by his sickly black tongue. He pulls away for a moment, taking in the delicious iron taste in his mouth of your open wounds. He stalks your body in a way that feels possessive, territorial. You feel yourself trickle another moan on the soft tendril as the man lifted your shirt, cold air hitting you as he wanders. You were unsure of this, at least with the delirious and disoriented state you were in.
The tendril in your mouth soon pops out with a slick pop – allowing you to gasp. You dont dare to utter any words though, trembling as you watch Slender tenderly lick your abdomen. You let out a moan as he licks up, trailing to your chest. You try to squirm away, but he has you firm to the tree. He sighs abruptly, his warm breath causing you to whimper out. It was only then you gasped, feeling something slick paw at your crotch. You attempt to wiggle out again as your breath hitches, looking at Slender with worry –
" Wait – Wait please I don't know if I can – "
You beg and plead through breathy moans and shaky replies, Slender growling in a guttural tone. He creepily smiles as he watches tears prick your eyes, licking his lips. You couldn't help but feel yourself throb as you see your own blood plastered sickly on his "lips". He soon claws away your dirtied shirt with a swift rip, causing you to land your head back to the tree in a shiver. The mix of unpleasant cold and dirty pleasure had you reeling. For what it is though, you didn't expect such a beast to be almost gentle with you – and you have backtracked that statement as he rips your pants away. You shriek out with a gasp, your face flushing redder as you look away from Slender. The tendriled being laughs coldly, his tentacle palming at your throbbing erection.
" You really are a sick meal, are you? Such a mortal like yourself would keep struggling– but your different. "
He hisses with a predatory gaze. The degrading made you whimper, only before crying out as he bites your tender flesh on your shoulder. You yell in a weird mix of pain and pleasure, the sweet twinge of agony as he laps up more of your blood. You feel the man's tendril pull down your boxers, leaving you bare naked. Your cock springs out shamefully, precum laced at the tip. Slender giggles in almost amusement. His big hands trailing down your tendered waist. You lay your head in embarrassment, weakly kicking your legs in protest. Slender's tendril swirls around your dick, tracing the peculiar veins that popped out. You shamefully groan, letting your head fall back more as you marched. Slender hisses in delight.
" Wow, so shameful to moan for such a monster. What do you think others would think seeing you like this, hm? "
Slender taunted, grunting as he unzips his pants. What came next was something indescribable; almost unbelievable. Your eyes widen at Slender's huge penis. It wasn't like any other humans though– it was a thick, black tendril with a slick feel. As his other tendril leaves your cock, he let's his penis slide against yours. You both let out a moan, one more surprised than the other. He was several inches bigger than you, and you were average to say the least. You shiver out a moan as he bucked his hips into yours, the slimy texture of his dick lubricating yours. You moan again before letting out a breathy gasp as Slender's hands raise your legs. You were folded between the being and a tree, tears spilling out of your muddy face as you watch helplessly. Your eyes widen at such a suggestion, shaking your head.
" N- no way! That's not going to fit in me! "
You cry out, watching as he examines your cute little hole. It was already laced with some of your own precum, watching as you clench to nothing was both arousing and amusing to the man. He looks at the mess he made, aiming his slick dick to your hole. You begged more, pleaded even. He teased your ass with the tip of his cock, swirling around your entrance. You moan at the unusual feeling, panting slightly as your dick twitched between you two. Slender leans to your bloodied, bitten shoulder to lick the gashes he marked onto you. You hiss in pain, wincing at the twinges of pleasure it brought you. Your stomach knotted up as it pulled more heat, becoming almost unbearable. Slender noticed this, even as your cock twitched. You both knew what was coming as he laughed darkly.
" Already coming, are we? Such a shame. It hasn't even got to the fun parts yet.. "
Fun parts? You shiver from what he staged. You were already becoming undone, and he still had more plans? Your thoughts are soon interrupted by a harsh force and a painful twinge. Slender had finally slipped his dick into you, bottoming in one strong move. You leans your head forward, biting into the man's clothes shoulder with a scream. The mixed pain and pleasure had got you to spill out – coming onto your abdomen and chest as you heaved and moaned in the being's shoulder. He grunts at the twinge of pain, his dick slick as he moves inside of you. He grunts as he pulls halfway out before plunging back into you. You arch your back as you moaned out, feeling Slender set a ridiculous pace. His quiet but guttural moans rang in your ears as he rips inside of you. It was only then you had completely lost yourself when you felt him curl into your prostate. You whimper and moan out shamelessly as you put your hands on Slender's shoulders to stable yourself.
" Mm - More! God, more sir– "
Your meek voice sent Slender into a predatory growl, slamming into your prostate as he draws more of your noises out. You could only feel a flood of pain from the ache of the tree scraping your back, your bitten shoulder, and some other injurgies. However, pleasure flushed your body as you come for a second time. Your cum lands on his suit as he slams into your ass. You let out more "sirs" and "pleases" in the air.
" Awwh you – Haah – foolish being.. Such a slut you became, darling."
The petname and moans he let's out sends you overboard. You feel twinges of overstimulation kick in as you lay almost limp in the being's grasp. He lays his head to the tree holding you, letting out more moans as his hips sputter into you.
" Please – no more!-- haah– cant– "
" Yes you can. You will take what I give you– "
Slender interrupts your pleas as he grips the soft flesh of your thighs, sinking his teeth back into your shoulder as he spurs on one more time. You cry out with a yelp, feeling the twitch inside you before you felt him cover your insides with his sticky ropes. You both pant in silence, only hearing your breath as be pulls out of you. Slender moans slightly as he watches his seed spill out of your hole, the mixed of sweat and other bodily fluids clung to you as you pant. You feel exhausted as your body comes down from your high, blinking slowly as you look up at Slender. He looks down as he let's go of you, letting you gently fall to the bottom of the tree. He marvels at his creation, and you look up at him like he was an angel from hell. He was pretty terrifying, but he also looked so hot as he watches the mess he created.
You were drenched in fluids, and naked. The blood from your shoulder had trickled it's way down to your soft chest. Your nipples perked up from the neglected attention it had. You had mud and gashes that covered you a in spots. You had Slender's seed spill out of you as your cock softened. You were filthy, disgusting, and a mess. Slender gawks at you with a smirk, leaning down towards you. You look at him with half lidded eyes, shakily breathing as you lay limp against the tree. You shiver and tremble with the cold wind as he lays his eyes on you. It wasn't long after he took in such a sight he grabbed you, picking you up with his arms. You don't have any strength to protest, whimpering as he looks at you. Something was definitely different however.. His gaze was softer, and his hold on you was different. Instead of the hard, possessive grip he had, it was replaced with a gentle but firm squeeze.
" You're mine now. You will be mine for as long as you live. Do you understand me? "
You give a weak nod before your eyes start rolling in the back of your head. You pass out right then and there. Your consciousness leaving your body as you lay limp, blissfully ignorant to what you had just endured.
-
You then wake up in your house. You were clothed and covered in the warmth of a blanket. You would be lying if you thought it was all just a dream until you felt it hit. The ache of your body made you grunt as you turn. You noticed something on your nightstand however. It was your camera and a crinkled note. Just like the papers in the forest. You look to see it's one of the ones you had picked up; ALWAYS WATCHING lingering in your head with not fear – but a longing. You sit the page down as you flop back onto your bed, sighing as you plop your face in the soft pillows below. You then drift back off to unconsciousness, the last thing you see is a figure at the corner of your eye as you peacefully pass out.

Ask Richter and Co. is now open for business!
Somewhere, hidden out of sight in a dingy apartment in Tokyo, lurks a creature of the night... What will you ask of him?
You can find Richter's full story here. Character descriptions under the cut!
Richter Belmont
Age: 262
Species: Vampire
Occupation: Pretending not to exist
Hobbies and interests: Woodworking and carpentry, model building/gunpla, cooking, video games, listening to music, watching movies
While Maria and Alucard were successfully able to free Richter from Shaft's influence, his sins- unwitting though they may have been- did not come without a price. Castlevania's dark energy changed Richter, cursing him with an illness few other than the legendary Simon Belmont have ever overcome. Seven days later, Richter was dead; Seven days, several minutes, and a drop of blood later, Richter was undead.
Though Richter's family pledged to support him despite his newfound monstrosity, he knew his presence would only put them in danger. In order to protect his wife, Annette, and their young children, Richter left home, accompanied by Maria and their new friend Alucard. The three of them took up residence in Berkeley Mansion, an abandoned manor in the woods outside the town of Veros. There, the three were able to carve out a comfortable (if unorthodox) life for themselves.
Alucard and Richter soon became close friends, and stayed together through Maria's death, the burning of their home, numerous Dracula-related events, and finally, Alucard's pursuit of Dracula's reincarnation. The two now reside in a small apartment in Tokyo, where Richter spends his time attending to household chores and pursuing his hobbies.
Up until recently, his existence was kept an absolute secret; he's now known to several of Alucard's associates, but still avoids the Agency and their landlord.
Alucard (Legal name: Genya Arikado)
Age: 577
Species: Dhampir
Occupation: Office worker/paranormal investigator/vampire hunter
Hobbies and interests: Fashion, magic, literature, illustration, listening to music, video games
It seems the long-suffering child of Count Dracula can never have a moment's peace. Though Dracula is no longer a threat, and Alucard has long since come to terms with himself and his family history, he's now terrorized by an entirely different type of horror: employment. Gone are the days of galavanting through Europe, sword in his hand and sister at his side; now he endures miseries such as emails, meetings, and rent.
When he's not working or sleeping, Alucard can generally be found spending time with his friends and family, or participating in the local goth and visual kei scene.
Soma Cruz
Age: 19
Species: Human
Occupation: College student
Hobbies and interests: Video games, manga, magic and the supernatural, fashion
There are those who have expressed concern over Soma, the reincarnation of the dark lord, being left to his own devices. Those who know him, however, know that Soma's no more of a threat to humanity than your average young witch whose enthusiasm far exceeds their experience. Though he wholeheartedly condemns his past life's decisions, Soma is fascinated by all things related to vampires and magic; he is eager to learn all he can, and maybe just a little bit bitter that he can't turn into a wolf.
For many years, Alucard and Richter kept Soma at a distance, afraid of what would happen if he were to learn of Richter's existence and the truth of Arikado's identity. Fortunately, Soma took the revelation in stride. He greatly looks up to Alucard and Richter, and can often be found at their apartment, playing games or nagging them to teach him new spells.
Other Friends and Family
Mina Hakuba
Soma's best friend, a miko at Hakuba Shrine. Mina is no stranger to the supernatural, as her family’s shrine has long played a role in the fight against Dracula and other threats; though she lacks combat skills, her ability to keep a level head in the face of danger is impressive. Her kind heart, polite manners, and relentless determination have earned her many friends.
Julius Belmont
Richter’s great-great-something-or-other grandson. Though Dracula himself is no longer a threat, Julius is still active as a vampire hunter, dividing his time primarily between Japan and Romania. He can sometimes be a bit rough around the edges, but is a loyal friend nonetheless.
Yoko Belnades
Richter’s extremely distant cousin, a witch who works at a Latino-Japanese interfaith church in Tokyo. Yoko is a chatterbox and a bit of a gossip, but she knows how to keep a secret when need be, and is quite sharp-witted. Richter finds she often reminds him of Maria.
Maria Renard
Richter’s beloved little sister. An expert vampire hunter and powerful witch, Maria lived a long and eventful life, eventually dying of old age. Her spirit is a frequent visitor to Alucard and Richter’s apartment, always eager to stay involved in the goings-on of her lifelong housemates.
Annette Belmont
Richter’s wife, a headstrong woman who bravely defied Dracula. Though they lived separately for most of their lives, Richter and Annette maintained a devoted love for each other, and Richter has always regretted the pain his mistakes caused her and their then-young children.
Juste, Lydie, and Maxim
Richter’s parents. A rowdy yet inseparable trio. They accepted Alucard into their family just as openly as Maria, and though he was already an adult by the time they met, Alucard views them as having been far better parents to him than Dracula ever was. However, Juste is by far the most nosy of Alucard and Richter’s ghostly houseguests, and has a tendency to complain about any interior design choices that he finds distasteful.
Trevor, Sypha, and Grant
Alucard’s very first friends, and Richter’s distant ancestors. A rough-and-tumble group of misfits from medieval Wallachia. Though their visits are less frequent than others, they’re fascinated by “the future”, finding it both amusing and disturbing.
Dante
Alucard and Richter’s long-distance friend. A cambion devil hunter, and talented guitarist. He was Richter’s first (and, for many years, only) friend after Maria’s death. His carefree attitude belies a dark past not unlike Alucard’s own.

◘Supernatural at Comic Con 2007 Part 1 by hmfergie◘
Holly Ollis is on stage, standing in front of the podium mic with Craig Tomashoff sitting beside her. To the right of Ollis is a long clothed table with mics and name cards for each of attending panelists.
Holly Ollis: Okay, I have a little news for you first. Um, Jared Padalecki really wanted to be here today. (audience aw’s) But, unfortunately he was working making.. the first episode of the new season of the show till six in the morning and missed his flight. (audience aw’s) So, I’m sorry. However! (holds finger up) we have Jensen Ackles in the house, (audience cheers) (briefly raises up her fists in cheer) who will more than make up for it, and (gestures to the right of the stage) in addition to our other producers. (audience chuckles)
And- Yeah, no pressure. And I just wanted to introduce our moderator. It’s the West Coast Bureau Chief for TV Guide, Mister Craig Tomashoff. (audience claps) (?He’s getting to introduce?) you into the show and some videos, and then he’ll be back to introduce our panel. (audience cheers and claps)
Ollis exits the stage. Tomashoff stands up and takes the podium.
Tomashoff: Thank-Thank you guys, uh, for coming. I- I’m actually totally fascinated by the concept of the Winchester girls. Um. (audience screams) (holds out hands) Hey, I don’t know if you rank out, by the way, but I could always use that sort of fanbase. So. (audience laughs) (?Everything- Everything-?)
Audience member: (?Orange Howage?) has TV Guide in the TV. (audience cheers and claps)
Tomashoff: Alright. (shrugs) Thanks for letting me on to the, uh, the feedback. And, uh, just get me my own crew and then we’re set.
Um, I just wanted to say something, like, really quick. It’s actually an, uh, honor moderating for this one. I’ve been doing a lot of- of over this weekend but, uh, I actually really love the show. I’m just e-excited (audience woo’s) (?And apparently you’re too excited..?) (gestures hand) (?to be here one time?) (?) (audience claps and cheers)
It’s just that the- the beauty of the TV reminds you of, like, as a kid you just stay up late to (gestures) watch, like, the Chiller Theater and all that kind of stuff. Only you, like, (raises hands up) get into this show and get the excitement.. uh, without the used car ads and all that kind of stuff. It-It- It’s just- It’s-It’s a really entertaining show, one of the most fun that we have on TV.
Audience member: Yeah! (audience cheers)
Tomashoff: So, what- I wanna tell you what we have coming up for you before we get to our panel. Uh, we have a couple of surprises, uh, and things for you to look at. Uuum, first of all, we have, uh- uh.. a world premiere of a “Script to Screen,” uh, video. It’s going to be from the season 2 dvd collection, uh, (audience cheers) Sept. 11th. A beside the scenes making of last season’s season finale. Which I’m going to guess you all know the name of.
Audience: “All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2!”
Tomashoff: All- All, uh, “All Hell Breaks Loose”.. (holds two fingers up) “Part 2” (audience cheers) Uuuum, It just shows why they never leave the gates of hell open, by the way. (audience laughs) (holds up hand) If I could leave with any bit of advice today, never open ‘em. And, if you open ‘em (gestures) (?check?) it quickly. (audience laughs) Because nothing good is coming out. (audience laughs)
Um, we’re gonna follow that with a 2 in a half minute hightlight reel put together by the producers, exclusively for you guys. (audience cheers) (?) all the stuff, and we’ll be back.
Tomashoff leaves the podium and stage. Video skips to Tomashoff back at the podium.
Tomashoff: -(?Can’t these guys?) (?) like, one day j-just wake up, sleep late.. (audience laughs) get a sandwich, go to a movie.

Kripke: Yeah, we screened the, uh, Pilot, uh, a couple years about, but, uh, none of us were here, so this is (raises hand) our first interaction with, uh, Comic-Con. We’re overwhelmed. (audience cheers and claps) So, thanks for showing up!
Tomashoff: (looks at Jensen) Um, w-what do y’all think so far? (shrugs) What would you rate the experience?
Jensen: I’m- I’m still- I’m waiting for my heart race to.. (waves to himself) (audience and Kripke laughs) (?um, stop racin- stop racing.?)
Gamble: That’s more cameras than I’ve (raises hand) ever seen pointed- (laughs). (audience laughs) (laughs to Jensen) I should sit next to you all the time. (audience and Jensen laugh)
Tomashoff: Alright. So (?I think?) the only problem you’re going to have today is people aren’t very enthusiastic. (audience chuckles) (to the audience) So, I think, uhh, you’ll have to amp it up a little bit for these guys. That would be great.
Um, yeah. I guess, ehhh, what I want to do is sort of start with the end, with the finale we saw a little bit of. Iiii- I mentioned before, y-you gotta know if you leave the Gates of Hell open… it’s not going to be good. So, um-
Kripke: No, no, it’s rarely good.
Tomashoff: Yeah, but a- a couple seconds, maybe.
•(2:02-H2,1:04-G1)-SDCC07;Q2A- Season 3 teasers (Kripke)
Tomashoff: So, what’s, uh, what’s in store? What, uh, what can you tell everybody that, uh, we got to look a little bit forward to?
Kripke: Yeah, uh.. You know, f-y- season 3 is the, um- a-a war time season. Uumm, which, uh, in the- it’s- it’s a giddy time inside the writers room. (audience chuckles) Uhhm, because, you know, we’ve had, you know, two seasons of.. mythology. And- and quite frankly, (undulates his hand and repeatedly nods) the mythology is starting to get.. a little complicated towards the end there. And, um, and so to be able to kind of.. (swipes) wipe it clean and have a fresh slate and (gestures) lead organically into, uh, you know, a-a-a much bigger escalation and a much more vital storyline.
Jensen is making an exaggerated face while pouring himself some water. The audience giggles.
Kripke: Which is, “it’s the end of the world,” like, “pick of arms, choose a side.” You know, “try to fight it,” ummm.. and, uh- and just, you know, “raise some hell.”
So, um, you know, we’re- we’re really excited, um, for this season. And we think, you know, we’ve always aimed for kind of like the big picture of mythic storytelling of like Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings, and Matrix. And, there’s always a point, in which.. you know, you kind of set the chess board, and it’s kind of time for the fun stuff to begin? And, it’s time for the fun stuff to begin. (audience cheers and claps. Jensen nods.)
Tomashoff: (?Season’s been-?) (shrugs) It’s been kind of fun so far. But, uh,
Kripke: Yeah, it’s been fun so far. But it, you know, it- it’s time for the battles and it’s time for the good stuff. And, we’ve been, like, the whole time when this show got picked up I was like, (prays) “Oh, please make it to season 3, because season 3 is when all hell breaks loose.” (audience giggles) And, uh, I’m glad that here we are. And, uh, and we’re looking to deliver for the fans. (audience cheers and claps)
•(3:27-H2, 2:29-G1)-SDCC07;Q2B – Season 3 Plan (Kripke)
Tomashoff: (?That said?) have you ever mapped it out? Have you mapped it out that much in advance? (Kripke: It’s-) Uh, have you mapped it out to (gestures) “Okay, we to season 3 we’re going to be here, and four and five.”
Kripke: Y-You have kind of like a rough map, you know? You very intentionally leave a large, gaping holes in it because (gestures) certain storylines..(nods) accelerate and certain storylines take longer than you think. But, yeah, (gestures) there’s like a rough plan that (looks at Tomashoff), you know, that we’re still, uh, vaguely on track with, yeah.

•(3:51-H2, 0:00-G2)-SDCC07;Q3A- New Characters “Ruby and Bela” (Kripke, Jensen, Edlund)
Tomashoff: (?That said-?) Now, I know there’s, y’know, (opens hands) some things you can maybe say about the, uh, n-new season. Uh, some new characters. Uh, (Kripke nods: uh-huh) two, uh, female characters.
The audience starts clapping. Kripke points out into the audience and laughs. Jensen raises his eyebrows and claps. Gamble claps and then straightens her hair behind ears.
Tomashoff: (?) (nods and briefly gestures to the audience) uh, apparently the Winchester girls! Uh, (looks to his left) What can you guys tell us-
Jensen: Thank God. (audience laughs)
◘Jensen Ackles at Comic Con 2007 by emyrize (0:37-0:54)◘
Tomashoff: I see. So, well, how often have you had to go into the writers’ room and say, just, you know. “Come on.”
Jensen: Just anybody but Jared, for cryin’ out- (audience and Gamble laugh) Something! Someone! (smiles)
Gamble: You’re saying that now.
Jensen: (nods) Yeah. (smiles)
Tomashoff: That’s why he’s not here.
Jensen: Yes.
Tomashoff: So, uh- So, we can say those kinds of things. What- what can you say, uh, about the new, uh, (looks to Kripke) characters? The two new females that are coming in?
Kripke: Ummm- uh, Well, y’know, a- a couple of things. There’s- one is, and this is sort of to fans and certain misconceptions and whatnot. Um. (audience laughs. Jensen smiles) There- there not brought in to be the boy’s girlfriends. (Jensen shakes his head) There-there’s not going to be the four of them, like, riding in the impala, (The audience laughs. Jensen laughs to himself) like, eating Scooby-Snacks, and.. (audience laughs) You know. An-and, like, you know, and-and playing like- that’s not the intention at all.
There-there brought in to be, um, a-antagonists and obstacles to the boys. (Jensen nods his head) Um, they thread in and out of stories the same way a lot of our other characters did, like, uh, you know, Gordon, or Agent Hendrickson, or Bobby (audience woo) and Ellen. (a few audience woo’s and claps) And we’re working really hard to introduce them.. correctly and making them part of the fabric of the show that the-the universe was always going to expand, and there’s always going to be these new characters. And so- different characters.
And, so, we’re introducing them right. And, um- and they’re both very different. (Jensen nods) You know, Ruby is kind of unhinged and a little ruthless, a little dangerous. Um, tune in for episode two. There’s a big reveal on Ruby. She’s sort of (Jensen nods) not who she seems to be. Umm, and, uh, Bela, who I’ll let Ben because Ben Edlund created her.
◘Supernatural at Comic Con 3 by sarahmonious◘
Edlund: Ah. (Jensen smiles. Some of the audience woo’s and claps) Hi, um, (audience laughs) Well, Bela is, uh, you know, in this world. Uh, pretty much everyone who’s got contact with the Supernatural, the stories we’ve been telling, they’re cause-based, right? I mean, like, it’s a- it’s a heroic struggle of good verses evil. And, Bela is designed to be, uh, not that. You know, she doesn’t really have a cause. She’s in it for herself. She is a, uh.., a thief basically.
And so, we’re going to play, I think, um, some pretty interesting games with her. And, uh, she’s going to be kind of a constant foil for, um, the boys’ intensive activities. Not constant like Scooby Doo kind of foil. (audience chuckles) That’s not what I’m talking about. Um, (big nod) but, yeah! So, she’s pretty cool. She’s a cat burglar.
Kripke: Yeah.
Edlund: She’s hot. (audience and Kripke laugh)
•(6:28-H2, 2:40-G2, 0:59-S3)-SDCC07;Q3B- New SPN characters (Jensen)
Tomashoff: That helps. (turns to Jensen) Um, Jensen, what do you think about having the newww characters in here? Ehp, no love interests, apparently. (Jensen laughs) So, you know, skip that. But, uh.
◘Jensen Ackles at Comic Con 2007 by emyrize (0:55-1:53)◘
Jensen: Um, well, you know, I- I think it’s, uh- I-I know from Jared and I’s perspective it’s very welcoming to have, uh, to have people come on the show to- You can actually, um-um, build a relationship, form a-a structured relationship with someone. I know that, um, you know, we’ve had a couple of characters come in and out. Umm, you know, we had Dad on for a while, and that was, uh, (a few audience woo’s) you know, great to have him. And-and every time he’d come on, there was just this (gestures) dynamic that- that we felt very comfortable in, because it was something that was familiar to us. Uh, same thing with, uh, you know, with-with Jim Beaver who playing Bobby. (audience cheers and claps. Kripke nods.) (Jensen nods and claps)
Um, you know, it’s just- you get to- you get to really.. dive in and explore a relationship between two characters when you get to work with them more. So, uh, I think to- to introduce, uh, characters that are going to be around a bit more, whatever they might be, you get to see more of the dynamic between those characters, between the-the two brothers and it just- (gestures) It adds more layers to an already very layered show. (nods)
•(7:28-H2, 3:40-G2)-SDCC07;Q4- Returning Characters (Gamble)
Tomashoff: Okay. Ah- (shrugs) I-I probably can’t say a whole lot about who’s coming back, whether it’s Dad, whether it’s anybody. I don’t- (gestures) Sera could you maybe talk a little bit about the other things coming back from ll-last season?
Gamble: We’re going to see Gordon again. (audience woo’s) Gordon is… bad things, bad things are in store for Gordon (laughs). (Jensen and audience laugh)
Tomashoff: (?) You say that very sadistically. So
Gamble: I- Gordon is one of my favorite characters, and it just so happens that we were working on something for him this past week, so I’m- I’m really stoked. And that he’s such- Sterling K. Brown is a fantastic actor and that we were really lucky to get him. And he’s, um, an Army Husband on “Army Wives,” so we don’t have him for long. So, we wanted to make sure we took advantage of him.
And, um, we’re- we’re really exploring Bobby this season. We’re telling his story (audience cheers and claps) for the first time. (nods) (Jensen pumps his fist) And we have- we have these two women. And they’ll be right in the boys’ faces. But, they won’t make them happy or satisfied (Jensen chuckles. The audience laughs) in any way. (laughs) (Jensen smirks and briefly raises his eyebrows) It’s just more pain and torture, because that’s what our show is. (audience claps)
Tomashoff: (to Jensen) You will regret being happy about this, by the way. (?Uh, now that they’re on-?)
Jensen: (shrugs and leans forward in his chair) I-Hey, I don’t know. (shakes head) Just any-anything- anything.

Kripke: (laughs) Yeah. Right. That’s right. (Jensen smiles and nods)
Edlund: They have a lighter moments here and there. And, that one I think came from.. Well, I mean, really the Hollywood episode is the challenge for every kind of show, you know what I mean? Like, you’re eventually going to take a look at something like this, (Jensen nods) especially if you don’t.. Ah, you know, if you’re getting around the country this is a show about Americana in a lot of ways. Probably, because these big, you know, central kind of draws, Americana, American ghost stories take place there.

I mean, was it- (gestures) was it the same, “Yeah, but could we get them a dog?” (audience laughs)
Kripke: Uh, (laughs) No. No. You know, it- it was- it was an idea or a version of an ide- of an idea that I had for.. probably like eight years before it got set up. And-and it used to get a (Tomashoff nods: mhm) cold response. Um, but there were (gestures) different versions of it. And some of them sucked out loud. (audience giggles) And, like, you know, one of them was an anthology, and one of them was a reporter, and, you know, there’s all these different versions of the show. And- and it always met with a collective yawn.
Um, but, it, you know, it just goes to show you, it’s like, you know, you hold on to an idea long enough and-and (gestures) sooner or later the market kind of turns and, you know, the- the market of what people are looking for just kind of turns in your favor. And, I happen to be pitching it just by a fluke of timing right as “Grudge,” and “the Ring” were, like, tearing up the box office. So, you know, it was a really easy pitch to sit down in front of, you know, a network and say, “ You know, “the Ring” and “the Grudge” are doing” (Edlund laughs) “you know, in box office. I wanna do that on TV.”
Um, and of course, (gestures) you don’t- the show isn’t really that. (Tomashoff: Yeah) In your heart you know what you want the show to be. (gestures) But, you just need a pitch to get them excited. (shrugs) And-and they, you know, they were- they were really excited.
We were actually in a bidding war on- over the Pilot once (gestures) once the time was right. (Tomashoff nods) So, um, you know, a lot of enthusiasm for the idea. Um, and then I wrote it and then they said, “We hate it.” (Edlund and audience laughs. Jensen smiles) But-but at least the pitch sold.
I-eh- that’s really true. I spent three months on the script and was like, “I love- Here’s my baby.” (mimics carefully handing over his script) (audience giggles) And I showed it to them and they were like, (mimics flipping through the script) “This is- this is unreadable.” And they tore it up (mimics tearing the script) (audience aw’s) And-and-and they said, “We hate it.” And-and so I, uh, me and you know, co-executive producer Peter Johnson- (gestures) I spent three months on the first draft. We tore it up. We re-broke. (gestures) And, the entire story, (looks at Tomashoff) I wrote it in ten days. And-and that was the pilot that got shot.

Wasn’t (Jensen: Yeah) this like, directly- it wasn’t as built, you know, the big..(gestures) lose-your-brother thing, but there was an emotional place that, that got to.
That thing- I really loved that. And the story conceit worked really well. (taps knuckles on table) Uhm, (to the audience) this is a good show, I think. I like it. (audience gives an affirmative response back, and then claps and cheers)
Uh, I also really- the thing I really got me into the show.. Um, I mean like, more so than I usually get into.. TV, yuh- at all, it was the, um.. the-the run, uh, the end, like, three episodes of the first season, (Kripke nods) when it really started to do its first, like.. you know, “curl.” The “curl,” of the mythology started to crash on its first shore was really great. The Supernatural and Paranormal world in history
(I wrote this back in my junior year of highschool for a research essay but decided I wanted to share it with others because some of the things on here are just so fascinating to me I didn’t want to keep it to myself. The writing here is definitely all over the place)
The supernatural world has had a chokehold on cultures and civilizations around the world since history even began being recorded, and even today it’s still an almost everyday thing for plenty of people and countries.
The idea of the supernatural dates back as far as ancient Babylon when the Babylonians recorded how to dispel a ghost to the underworld on a stone tablet. The tablet was made in ancient Babylon sometime around 1500 B.C.E. At the time it was the earliest known depiction of a ghost. It is extremely difficult to see the writing and it must be viewed under specific light. It is small and half of the tablet is missing, but it still gives specific instructions on how to remove ghosts. The directions say to have an exorcist make figurines of a man and woman, prepare two vessels of beer; next at sunrise speak ritual words calling on the Mesopotamian god Shamash, who was the god of the sun and was responsible for guiding the undead to the underworld. One of the texts has a warning to not look behind you; whether this is directed at the ghost going to the underworld or the exorcist is unknown. Throughout history people have believed that they encountered ghosts in their everyday life; many scholars even have writings that give instructions on how to exercise these ghosts. Mesopotmians had rituals during funerals to specifically ensure the dead would not rise as ghosts, but instead of being viewed with fear, the Mesopotamians viewed them with sympathy as their eternal slumber had been taken away from them (Gershon, n.pag).
Ghosts were less known during ancient Rome; and more feared than honored; unlike in the Babylonian culture one of the first ghost stories came from Ancient Rome. The first ghost story was written by Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus, better known as Pliny the Younger. He was a scholar and magistrate in Ancient Rome and wrote hundreds, if not thousands, of letters in his time. One of the most popular may be his letter to Roman Senator Lucius Licinius Sura, where Pliny asks if he truly believes in the specters, which reveals this conversation may have been going on for some time. Pliny goes on to speak about the story of a haunted house in Athens where the inhabitants reported hearing noises in the night; this slowly drove them to madness; and eventually death. Once the home was empty Athendoros the Philosopher inquired about it, he was intrigued by the story of the previous owners and decided to see if these stories held any truth. He said the ghost had appeared for him, a specter of a man with a long white beard and disheveled hair. The ghost led him outside before disappearing on a specific spot. Athendoros had the magisterium dig the spot up the next day where they discovered a long-deceased body; once the body of the man received a public funeral, the home was no longer haunted (Secundus n.pag).
Pliny the younger seemed to be worried about the ghost according to his letter, and even wrote to a politician about these concerns; Pliny states, “I am extremely desirous therefore to know your sentiments concerning specters, whether you believe they exist and have their proper shapes and a measure of divinity, or are only the false impressions of a terrified imagination?” (Secundus n.pag).
In the 1700s the paranormal was part of everyday life, so much that a newspaper had daily tales about paranormal stories in neighborhoods. People would report strange events that took place in their homes and it would be posted. Most reported stories said ghosts were horrible and loud creatures, but not violent. Newspapers devoted to reporting unusual behavior were a hit with communities in the 17th century (Sangha n.pag).
People had begun to believe some of the living could be directly connected to the supernatural world; they called themselves psychics and clairvoyants. The 1700s were the rise of this belief, mainly in England and Egypt with women. Many used playing cards or tea for readings to avoid suspicion as witches. Travelers from Egypt had become well known for their spiritual abilities and would receive payment to tell fortunes. The French scholar and writer Antoine Court De Gebelin was one of the first to use tarot for the occult; he claimed these cards originated from Egypt and were brought to England by travelers (Matthews n.pag).
The second most prominent figure in the occult was Etteila, the grandfather of the occult tarot. Very little is known about his life before beginning to work with the tarot, but he was born in 1738 to Maître Rôtisseur, a caterer, and his mother, whose name is unknown, a seed merchant. Those who began practicing the occult often believed that what they were doing was with the help of spirits, again tying the 18th century with the paranormal world (Matthews n.pag).
The paranormal has always been a part of the world, while people do not truly know if it is real or not. The cultures of the past may have been heavily influenced by the ideas of ghosts and spirits. Many modern historians speculate that the reason the civilizations centuries ago relied so heavily on the idea of the supernatural was to give them a possible answer to what happens after death. In history humans did believe ghosts were a part of life, and that they were an important part of life and how the world functioned.
Personal Position
The world has always been filled with intricate and detailed stories revolving around the supernatural and while it is unlikely that monsters or other supernatural creatures live in the world the theories of it are interesting and a large part of the past. The way entire cultures can form around a simple thought of nonexistent creatures is fascinating. Knowing about the history of past civilizations is important; and since the supernatural was so deeply rooted in their culture it should be just as important. The supernatural has had a strong hold on cultures around the world since ancient times.
Everyone wonders if the supernatural exists if monsters roam the earth hidden from the naked eye. Most cultures were created with the idea that the supernatural wanted to harm them, but today modern society calls these old ideas myths or folktales. Has the supernatural world existed this entire time or are myths created to cause fear among civilizations as a way of controlling them?
The supernatural was first created as a way for early civilizations to understand what they believed to be unexplainable events, such as their crops suddenly dying must have been the cause of a witch or missing money must be a demon.
The use of the supernatural in culture has varying motives and can neither be proven nor disproven. Psychics believe they have the power to contact the other side; while there is no scientific proof of this one woman, Dorothy Allison has assisted in over 400 police cases and is still being contacted by police for assistance, “In her voluntary detecting career, Allison worked on more than 5,000 cases for law enforcement agencies around the globe and was credited by many with helping to solve more than a dozen murders and find at least 50 missing children.” (Oliver, n.pag)
In early history the invisible world served a deep and important cultural purpose; they had originally used it to show what was unacceptable in their societies, eventually, these monsters created from simple ideas turned into people's darkest fears, “Many Tudor and Stuart people – from the most educated elites to ordinary working men and women – believed that alongside their own, visible world was what has been termed an ‘invisible world’. These two worlds were deeply intertwined: from the malevolent powers of witches, to the demonstration of divine will in monsters and other ‘wonders of nature’, they thought that the supernatural shaped the natural world“ (Cambridge 1).
At first, the idea of monsters may have been helpful in their eyes; it was a way to easily represent unwanted traits in communities, at some point it got out of hand and their beliefs turned into monsters, “In the Early Modern Period monsters played an important role in European society, they were created by communities in order to serve cultural purposes. One of these purposes was that monsters outlined characteristics that were culturally unacceptable, and through the image of monsters were used to enforce these beliefs” (Smith 1).
What was once a cultural idea turned into fear that lasted generations; every small event that may have been believed to be unexplainable turned into a monster out to get them and their family. They were no longer in control of these fears; instead these monsters controlled and shaped their culture, “Whatever the community would fear the most, monsters would spawn from these anxieties. Witches would attack crops, murder livestock, and create curses, all acts that European communities would fear, another example of how fear began to construct monsters” (Smith 1).
In early history the idea of the supernatural served a cultural purpose; these supernatural beings often had characteristics that were unacceptable to the culture. They used these creatures to reinforce their beliefs. These creatures were created to specifically hold monstrous traits, for example, one monster may be gluttonous or violent. The problem these ideas brought with them was severe anxiety amongst communities; most of the farmers believed witches may come and destroy their crops randomly or a shop owner thought a demon would steal their earnings. Communities found a way to make their fears a physical threat to their well beings; they wanted what they were as a rational answer for irrational events. In early history people feared what they could not understand or recognize; for example when discoveries of animals were made people thought they must be beasts of the unnatural world if they did not understand it, it must be monstrous or dangerous.
The supernatural has been an important part of culture since some of our earliest recorded histories. Understanding the importance of the supernatural in history is something that more people should see. Early civilizations used monsters to form what they did not want in their culture; or as an excuse for negative parts of their life. Today the supernatural has become fictional to most people, or are folktales.
While the supernatural is most evident in early history, it still has its involvement in cultures and daily life today. Some still believe that the paranormal and supernatural world is part of life, such as certain people believing that they can contact the other side or cultures believing in supernatural creatures like the chupacabra or skinwalker.
Psychics in the modern day are often used in many police investigations, especially homicides. The first recorded assistance of a psychic in police investigations was in 1845, though many believe they were helping before that, unfortunately, this recorded case has been lost. They have been shown to give useful information that has even been proven true later in the investigations. Many psychics have become trusted members of many police departments.
In history, civilizations used the supernatural to either cause or ease fear in their daily lives. They used these monsters to specifically form their world how they saw fit, if someone had the traits of these monsters they were targeted. For a widow not remarrying was seen as a witch. They came to truly believe the supernatural existed in their world and that it was working against them.
There has been no scientific evidence of the supernatural or paranormal world hidden in our own. Many people have tried to falsify evidence and there have been competitions offering thousands of dollars for the science behind the supernatural to be proven but no one has truly discovered it, not with physical evidence that can show the paranormal and supernatural are part of our world.
The supernatural is not a natural everyday phenomenon; it was created for a specific purpose. Only after decades of being used to show what is culturally unacceptable did civilizations begin to convince themselves these monsters were real and they are what is causing the problems in life, “In the Early Modern Period monsters played an important role in European society, they were created by communities in order to serve cultural purposes” (Smith 1).
The supernatural was at first only a thought someone had to use to help form civilizations; it then turned into something much more over time. The citizens of the old world turned these thoughts into what they believed to be real physical creatures through fear, they had no way of knowing if they were real or not, and they believed what they were told by chiefs, kings, and lords. They let their fear control them and their entire lives.
The paranormal and supernatural world has been tied with culture for over a thousand years; while they may not be real it is important to many parts of the world. People at the beginning of recorded history believed this unseen world was something they could not live without, and the world could not function without. After a few hundred years the paranormal was beginning to be more unnatural rather than natural and important; it was purely fictional now. The idea of the paranormal and supernatural in the world changed multiple times across the world throughout time, many cultures stopped believing in it and many had it involved in daily life and religion. The supernatural is a heavily important part of this world’s history; and many times influenced the past. The supernatural may continue to affect the future of everyone.

QUEER HAUNTINGS: TALES OF GAY AND LESBIAN GHOSTS
by Ken Summers
Another ghostly book review for the spooky Yule seasons.
Behind many hauntings is a history of drama, passion, and often tragedy. Big events and strong emotions that anchor the souls of the dead to the mortal realm. For many ghost-hunters, chronicling the stories of who their spectral subjects were in life is even more fascinating than the hauntings themselves. But as author Ken Summers points out in his introduction to this book, nearly all of these backstories deal with straight- or at least, perceived straight- individuals. “Where were the gay, lesbian, and bisexual entities in paranormal literature?” he asks.
“Queer Hauntings” is Summer’s effort to document these overlooked or forgotten ghostly manifestations.  The book is as a survey of locations, such as historical gay bars or the abodes of famous queer people, where supernatural happenings have been reported.. Many of the ghosts have fascinating histories, such as Timber Kate, a sex worker in the Old West who performed regularly on-stage with her partner Bella Rawhide. Or James Whale the director of Frankenstein and other Universal horror movies who began life as a quiet, sensitive artistic kid in an English mining town.
Like many ghost stories, there is great tragedy too, such as the robbery and murder of Bill Neville, whose spirit allegedly still dwells in the theater he loved so much in life. Or Lizzie Borden’s lonely, reclusive life which was punctuated by a brief romance with a married woman.
Though the book primarily focuses on hauntings in the US, Summers also highlights a few queer ghosts from the United Kingdom, such as Piers Gaveston, the intimate companion of King Edward II whose ghost plays tricks on visitors to Scarborough Castle.
Some of the queer implications for the ghosts may seem slight because in life many of these people had to hide their bi- or homosexuality from the public, so researchers can only get hints and inferences- such as folks who had especially close and intimate “friends” of the same sex. And like many alleged real-life hauntings, the evidence in these cases can be very slight- a few phantom footsteps heard in the early morning or a dark, wispy figure walking down a corridor. But regardless of the veracity of these supernatural occurrences, they add an important queer element to the literature of hauntings.
You can get a copy of Queer Hauntings here.

It's also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post open starters and meme prompts. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
All details vary based on verse, and I'm happy to pull Castiel from most points in the timeline, including to plot/headcanon his escape from the Empty, or to put him in modern AUs/mash-ups with other fandoms. Unless it's a fix-it verse, I do not acknowledge Dean's death in the series finale.
wanted connections:
This is by no means a comprehensive list, and I can roll with most muses as far as basic interactions. I’m happy to ship Castiel with other Supernatural characters and OCs/fandom crossovers based on chemistry, but unless they’re on my OTP list, they need plotting and interaction first. There is never any pressure to ship with me, even if they’re on my list.
Please note that he is not my easiest muse to ship with, outside of Dean. I'm happy to try, but he's far more likely to go angel dad-mode on most muses.
OTPs: Dean Winchester NOTPs: n/a Family: JACK JACK JACK. Claire Novak, Sam Winchester, Charlie Bradbury, Balthazar, Gabriel Other: Aziraphale and Crowley (besties?), Damien Thorn (not the first time he's pulled the dad card with the Antichrist, just saying), Shadowhunters muses (he'd find a different kind of nephilim fascinating). Any Supernatural muses or crossovers from other horror/paranormal fandoms (a case in Night Vale would be AWESOME).
Tumblr media
default verses:
canon (+/-): Any point in the Supernatural timeline or after, barring Castiel's time as a human. May or may not include Castiel's escape from the Empty, ignore Dean's death in the series finale, or create a fix-it for those events.
horror!verse: Any verses that crossover with other supernatural/horror fandoms.
Tumblr media
verses by request only:
I'm happy to write these, but since they're more specific AUs, I don't default on them for asks/memes. Please feel free to request them.
bridgewater: Castiel Novak is a folklore professor at the local university who gets drawn into strange investigations of the supposed paranormal, including the disappearance of his father forty years ago. (human!cas)
king!verse: A mash-up AU of the Stephen King and Joe Hill universes, where all media takes place in the same world.
super!mcu: A mash-up AU of the Supernatural and Marvel Cinematic universes, where the Winchesters manage to stop the first apocalypse shortly before Thanos snaps away half the universe.

Top 12 Characters from FOX’s Sleepy Hollow
Tumblr media
Halloween may have ended the day before yesterday, but I wanted to give the spooky season one last hurrah! I recently did a couple of lists related to characters from Washington Irving’s classic tale “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” I’ve been on a Sleepy Hollow kick lately, for a few reasons…and due to this “kick,” I decided it was time to revisit the somewhat controversial FOX TV Series simply called “Sleepy Hollow.” When the show first came out, I actually only got part of the way through Season One before I stopped watching it; at the time, I had a lot of other things eating up my attention, and I think I was also a little more closed-minded towards the drastic reinventions this series put forth.
After revisiting the show in the past couple months, I found a new sort of love and respect for it. It’s not a perfect series, mind you, but I think the mixture of my love of the source material and the excellent performances from the actors, above all else, pull it through. The show is a supernatural crime drama, similar to things like “Supernatural,” “Lucifer,” or “The X-Files.” The series focuses on Ichabod Crane - a dashing Revolutionary War hero, in this version of the story - solving a variety of strange crimes in the modern day. From witches to demons to figures from mythology - and, of course, the Headless Horseman - the show had a lot of really wonderful characters and creatures on display. I decided it would be fun to count down some of my favorite characters from the series overall, in honor of All Hallows Eve (or, given today’s date, Dia de los Muertos; take your pick). Because not only did this show have great reimaginings of the characters from the Washington Irving legend, but also a fine array of original characters unique to this interpretation. They all deserve to be recognized. So, without further ado…here are my personal Top 12 Characters from FOX’s Sleepy Hollow.
Tumblr media
12. Jake Wells & Alex Norwood.
These two characters debuted in the show’s fourth and final season. I’m just going to state outright: in my opinion, Season 4 was the worst season of the show. On its own terms, it wasn’t necessarily all that bad, but I think it tried to do a few too many things at once, and changed up the formula of the series in a few too many ways. When you compare to the prior three seasons, it stands out as the weakest link, in my opinion. One of the issues this season had was that it had a whole new cast of major characters we’d never met before, which meant a whole new set of relationships, personalities, and performances for the audience to get used to. Thankfully, most of these characters were pretty strong. Case in point: Jake Wells and Alex Norwood, two eccentric history buffs who work as the chief operatives for Agency 355: a secretive part of the FBI that investigates supernatural phenomenon. Jake and Alex I always saw as a duo, first and foremost, hence why I decided to include them together here. Jake is a dorky, geeky fellow who has read more books on history, and done more research into the paranormal, than almost anyone else; his knowledge on both subjects almost rivals that of Ichabod himself, and he is eager to prove his worth as a hero when he realizes his true calling. Alex, meanwhile, is a snarky, sneaky weapons expert fascinated with ancient technology and cursed objects; she’s actually a bit more skeptical than Jake, but she goes along for the ride. Alex also has a hidden crush on Jake, who naturally remains totally oblivious. These two were just a fun pair to watch in action, and many of the funniest moments in the final season came from their interactions.
Tumblr media
11. Jobe.
While Season 4 may have had a lot of problems, one thing I almost unconditionally loved about it was its villains; most notably its two main antagonists. One of those antagonists is Jobe. It’s unclear if “Jobe” is actually his true name or not, but regardless, Jobe is a Mephistophelean sort of figure: a high-ranking demon who has become the personal bodyguard and assistant of the season’s main villain, Malcolm Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss made a deal with the devil years ago, part of that bargain being that Jobe would faithfully serve him until Dreyfuss’ death. However, Dreyfuss’ plans to gain immortality put that exact bargain at risk, and Jobe is thus in danger of potentially becoming a pawn in the mortal man’s game forever. There’s an interesting contrast with Jobe’s relationship with Dreyfuss; Malcolm relies on the demon constantly, and goes to great lengths to help him out, and Jobe will do just about anything Malcolm demands. At times, one could almost believe the two were friendly with each other…but it eventually becomes clear that Jobe is NOT Malcolm’s friend. He’s simply fulfilling the contract’s stipulations to the letter. While he does not approve of the loophole being used, there’s nothing he can really do about it…aside from finding his own loopholes to try and sabotage the scheme.
Tumblr media
10. Katrina Van Tassel.
A.k.a. Katrina Crane. In this version, she and Ichabod actually get married, so which surname you use can be interchangeable. I call her “Van Tassel” simply because that’s the character’s name in the original story. ANYWAY: Katrina was a major figure in the first two seasons of the show; in many ways, she is the catalyst for a lot of the action that goes on in the series. It’s revealed that Katrina is a witch who was secretly working with American Revolutionaries. It was partially due to her influence that Ichabod defected from the British side of the conflict, and the two were eventually wed. For the first season and a half, Katrina is one of the main protagonists…but, in the latter part of season two - for various reasons - the character falls to the dark side, going from a good and noble enchantress to a truly wicked witch. I’ve always felt sort of conflicted about this portrayal of Katrina; my biggest issue is that, for that first season and a half, the writers couldn’t seem to make up their minds if Katrina was meant to be a strong, independent, powerful woman and role model…or a rather silly damsel in distress. On the one hand, she’s quite literally got a ton of power as a witch, and she’s a skilled manipulator in her own way…but on the other hand, most of her time before we get to her descending arc is spent with Ichabod trying to save her, and it gets old fast. Having said that, I honestly think she became a much more interesting character in the second half of season two, with her descent into darkness story arc; the tension of love and anger between herself and Ichabod, not to mention the other characters, made for some dramatic moments, and her motivations and goals as an antagonist were really quite interesting. She got more chances to actually SHOW her strength as a character, helping Ichabod on cases in the early parts of Season 2B, and then shifting and turning her coat as the arc went on. Actress Katia Winter really helps sell the character, and while I may have some issues with the way she’s written, she’s still an important and iconic figure in the series.
Tumblr media
9. Diana Thomas.
Yet another character from Season 4. Played by Janina Gavankar, Diana had a really tough gig to follow: for the first three seasons, the two main characters of the show had been Ichabod Crane and “Leftenant” Abbie Mills. However, due to issues with the creative team behind the scenes, Nicole Baharie - Abbie’s actress - decided it was time to leave the show. Rather than end the series with Abbie’s death, however, the writers decided to provide Ichabod with a new modern detective to join forces with, and invent a new “Second Witness” as well. This is where Agent Diana Thomas of the FBI comes in: much like Abbie, she meets Ichabod when her own partner and her boss end up killed by a demonic entity. From that point on, the two become entangled, as Ichabod helps Agent Thomas with a variety of cases not in Sleepy Hollow, but in Washington D.C. itself. At first, we believe that Diana must be the new Second Witness…but instead, it’s revealed that Diana is a mother, and it’s her ten year old daughter, Molly, who is the Second Witness. Diana effectively tries to become a crusader for her own offspring, fighting the battles Molly is too young to fight, and trying to find some way to balance her duties as a mother, a member of law enforcement, and part of a secret war against Hell itself all together. While following on the heels of “The Leftenant” wasn’t exactly an easy task, I actually think Diana pulls it off: her own relationship with Ichabod hits some of the same beats, but her character and setup is unique enough to make her interesting and fun in her own right. The way things develop between herself, Molly, and Ichabod is also quite engaging; if the show had gone on longer, she might have ranked more highly here.
Tumblr media
8. Nick Hawley.
It’s weird that this character ranks so highly for me, because - much like the Season 4 cast - this was a character who only appeared for a single season. And unlike most of the S4 cast I’m covering here, he WASN’T a series main during his tenure. I guess one could just argue that character is simply that strong. Nick Hawley, a.k.a. “The Privateer” (as Ichabod likes to call him), is a self-proclaimed treasure hunter. He seeks out rare and mysterious artifacts and items, which usually have some kind of supernatural or mythological tale behind them, and then sells them off either to private buyers or simply to the highest bidder he can find. Hawley is a modern-day pirate: while not completely without scruples, he cares most chiefly about his own health and finances, which makes him an unpredictable, anti-heroic figure for the season. He’s smart, he’s capable, and he’s a great ally to have when you have him…but he’s not above leaving people behind in the lurch when it suits him best, and he even acted as an enemy once or twice to the main heroes, whenever his clients weren’t exactly friendly souls. He was a major figure in Season 2, and he got richer and richer as the season went on…but unfortunately, this was the only season Hawley appeared in. His story effectively remains unfinished, since his departure from the show saw him planning to actively hunt down his own adoptive mother (who had become a demon…it happens). We never saw Hawley again, so we have no idea how his adventures on that front turned out. I had a feeling they MIGHT have been considering using the character in future seasons, but for one reason or another that never happened, either because the show was canceled before such a thing could occur, or because the actor just wasn’t available. Whatever the case, he was a fun figure who brought a sense of mercenary chaos to the program, and his time in the series, while short, was truly unforgettable.
Tumblr media
7. Malcolm Dreyfuss.
Like I said, in my opinion, the best part of Season 4 had to be the villains. Chiefest among them is Malcolm Dreyfuss, the main antagonist for the show’s final season arc. Dreyfuss is a character who feels like something straight out of a comic book, and I mean that in the best possible way: he’s an eccentric, half-mad tech mogul, with a flamboyant, sleazy sort of personality. He feels like he’s somewhere between a mad scientist and a used car salesman. It was a unique personality for a main villain in the show to have; most of the main villains before were more serious, stoic, sinister characters; hyper-powerful beings who controlled legions of Hellspawn and could kill you with a look. Dreyfuss is the exact opposite: he’s just a guy. A very, VERY bad guy with a lot of ambition and a lot of money. In fact, at times Dreyfuss is quite pathetic; one of my favorite elements of this character is that, despite all his theatricality and high-flying schemes of grandeur, there are so many times where the vulnerability and fearful status of Dreyfuss’ position comes into play. Whenever someone sees right through him, so to speak, he goes from a criminal mastermind to a whimpering child, and it’s equal parts funny and kind of sad to see this character fall so low. While he’s an awful creature, he’s also highly entertaining, and his reasons for his evil deeds are actually somewhat sympathetic: this is a man who lived his life in the shadows for so long, and desires to finally be in the spotlight. I think that’s a concept we can all relate to. The season as a whole may not have been the best, but Dreyfuss is a great villain who made for some of the most memorable moments in the final arc of the show.
Tumblr media
6. Frank Irving.
Played by the inimitable Orlando Jones, Captain Frank Irving was one of the main characters in the first two seasons; I can’t help but wonder whether or not it’s merely coincidence that, in my opinion, the latter two seasons - where he was NOT present - were the least grand of the series as a whole. In any case, Irving, for the first half of season one, starts off as a pretty standard sort of “doubting police official” character. While he isn’t a bad person, he doubts in all of the supernatural and fantastical explanations Ichabod and Abbie try to give him for the various crimes they face. It isn’t until his own close encounter with the Headless Horseman that Captain Irving becomes a more active member of the team, as he realizes the war with evil is very real, and far more bizarre than he ever gave it credit. That war hits close to home when a demon actually possesses his daughter; an event that causes endless dismay for Irving, and sets in motion many of the struggles he faces for the rest of his time in the show. Seeing Captain Irving’s transition from a tough-as-nails doubter to an increasingly more tragic and complex character entangled in a web of danger made for an interesting story arc. The lengths he’ll go to in order to keep his family safe are only matched by his tenacity on the battlefield, and the many twists and turns his own private side of the story faced made for some of the most intense parts of the show. It’s really a shame that, after Season 2, we never saw him again, or even got much mention of where he was and what was going on in his life.
Tumblr media
5. Henry Parrish.
Played by the Scarecrow himself, John Noble (or Denethor himself, for you Lord of the Rings fans), Henry Parrish was one of the main antagonists in the first two seasons of Sleepy Hollow. In fact, in Season 2, he basically acted as the main villain, outranking even the Headless Horseman himself! When we first meet Henry, he is a somewhat neurotic, mild-mannered fellow, suffering under a great burden: Henry is a Sin Eater, someone who can physically absorb people’s sins into his own body, a fact that seems to torment him constantly. As the series goes on, he comes out more and more as a worthy ally to the main team…but it’s ultimately revealed that Henry is actually the master manipulator behind many of the things that have gone wrong in the season up to that point. Henry, you see, is actually Ichabod’s own son, Jeremy Crane; abandoned by his mother as a child while Ichabod was still in the crane, Jeremy grew up hated and feared, and was eventually - like Ichabod himself - buried in a state of suspended animation, only to be reawakened years later, and years before his father (hence why the son is physically older than the father; he’s had more time to age). But while Ichabod rose from the dead as a force for good, Jeremy - renaming himself “Henry Parrish” - has become a force for evil: he is the Horseman of War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and a servant of the arch-demon Moloch, whom he sees as his “real” father. John Noble plays the character to perfection, and despite his ultimate defeat in Season 2, Henry would actually be one of the few characters to see the show to the end: he returned a few times in Season 4, first in a nightmare Ichabod has while under the influence of a monster, and then for real in the last couple episodes of the show, teaming up with Malcolm Dreyfuss, as well as hiss old compatriot, the Headless Horseman. Speaking of…
Tumblr media
4. The Headless Horseman.
I mean…it’s Sleepy Hollow. So of COURSE the Headless Horseman is going to be in the Top 5 here. In fact, some of you are probably wondering why the Horseman isn’t in the Top Three! How could the HEADLESS HORSEMAN not make the top three in SLEEPY HOLLOW?! Well…I’ll get to that in a bit, but first, let’s go over the positives. In this series, the Horseman is revealed to be another of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: specifically, he is the Horseman of Death. And, being the Horseman of Death, he cannot truly die, no matter what happens. As a result of this, even as other villains came and went throughout the show, the Horseman stuck around: alongside Ichabod and Jenny Mills (more on them later), the Headless Horseman is the ONLY major character in the series who appears in all three seasons. While he didn’t show up in every single episode, every time the Horseman DID appear, it was a big deal, which made his appearances all the more special; you knew bad stuff was going down in the Hollow when Death rode into town. I also appreciate that the series actually went out of its way to make the Horseman a real character, with a proper true identity, backstory, and personality…at least at first. This is where the problem with the Horseman, and why he isn’t in the top three, comes into play: in the first two seasons, the Horseman is handled EXTREMELY well…but in Season 3, the character only appeared twice. First in a cameo in the opening…and then in a more prominent part in the season finale. That’s it! We never see or even get much reference to him anywhere else! In a show called SLEEPY HOLLOW, it was kind of shocking that such an iconic figure was almost nowhere to be found, especially after his huge level of importance in the prior two seasons. In Season 4, the character had a more prominent role - acting as a tertiary antagonist after Malcolm and Jobe, with at least as many appearances as he had in Season 1 - but the actual character took a HUGE step back. He basically just became a faceless monster; that’s not necessarily a bad thing, since most versions of the Horseman are that, but a big part of what made the first two seasons and their handling of the Horseman so great was that they DID give him more real character and development. Season 4 really watered down the character, and felt like a missed opportunity as a result. There were lots of places where all that established lore and personality could have been utilized, and it just never really was. Having said all that…it was still really cool to see the Horseman anytime he appeared, and the fact he lasted till the end is definitely a credit to the ghost’s power. Also, I guess one CAN technically say he was in EVERY episode, since the opening titles for every season featured the Horseman…but I think that’s pushing it a bit. Anyway, great version of this classic horror icon, and easily my favorite villain from the series…but not great enough, within the show’s own setup, to make the top three.
Tumblr media
3. Abbie Mills.
Abbie Mills, a.k.a. “The Leftenant,” was the secondary protagonist of Sleepy Hollow for the first three seasons. And unlike with Captain Irving, it’s no coincidence at all that the show’s biggest decline happened courtesy of her departure. Abbie is an ambitious police officer at the start of the show, with a checkered past; as a child, she encountered supernatural evil at a young age, something she has tried to deny all her life. Tragic events in her past led Abbie to becoming a petty thief, but - with the help of her mentor, Sheriff August Corbin - she eventually found her calling in law enforcement. In Season 3, Abbie went from being a simple police lieutenant to an agent of the FBI, stationed in New York, which kept her close to home, so to speak, while still allowing the character to advance and shake up the formula a bit. Abbie was a fun character; her relationship with Ichabod was one of purest friendship. There is no romance between them, yet they are as close as two human beings can be; as Ichabod describes in the “Bones” crossover episode (yes, that was a thing), they are a relationship of pure opposites. Ichabod is a quirky, theatrical, grandiose figure out of place and out of time, given to grandiloquent phrases and speeches and constantly prattling off trivia about a past he lived; Abbie is a more down-to-Earth, grounded person who takes things more easily in her stride, but is still open to having her horizons broadened. Both often feel alone in the world, due to various personal tragedies they’ve faced and mysteries they have yet to figure out, but at the end of the day, they always have each other. At times they may bicker and banter, but the chemistry between them is pure gold. When “The Leftenant” finally did leave the show, she went out like a hero - sacrificing everything to save her friends, her family, and the world itself - which was just the proper sendoff her character deserved. One only wishes she never had to leave at all.
Tumblr media
2. Jenny Mills.
While Jenny Mills was never the secondary protagonist in ANY season, she was, effectively, the tertiary protagonist of EVERY season. Like I said before, she was one of only three major characters in the show to appear in every single season, practically from start to finish. (The only other two were Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman, and…let’s face it, in a show called “Sleepy Hollow,” it would have been more amazing if those two DIDN’T show up every single season.) At the start of the show, Jenny is Abbie’s estranged sister; a notorious delinquent who has spent much of her life in-and-out of the local mental hospital. It’s later revealed that all that time “out” of the hospital was spent with Jenny running various secret missions for Sheriff Corbin, who knew all along that the Apocalypse was night, and helped Jenny out when she was possessed by a demon during her adventures. As the show goes on, Jenny became a more and more interesting and important character, and even after Abbie and so many other characters who had played such a big part in the series for the first three seasons disappeared, Jenny stayed on right to the last episode. Jenny is just a bad@$$, plain and simple: she’s not as straight-laced as her sister, much more trigger-happy and far less lawful. She’s essentially a treasure hunter; a low-budget Indiana Jones who works from a trailer rather than a university. In many ways, she is a lot like Nick Hawley; but while Hawley fights for himself above all other things, Jenny believes in a bigger plan, and is simply trying to find her place in it. Because she lasted so long in the series, we got to see Jenny interact with more characters and form more relationships than almost any other in the show, barring Ichabod himself; and as the show progressed, and her role increased, we saw Jenny mature and become more and more independent. The final season indicated that she was actually planning to leave “Team Witness” and go off on her own, no doubt preluding the actress’ departure; I’m actually sort of glad this DIDN’T happen, only because it meant that the character did remain a firm anchor all the way to the end of the ride. Having said that, it would have been interesting to see how Jenny and the show would have fared if this had; this is a character so strong that I actually would have loved to see an entire series JUST about her, and that’s high praise indeed.
Tumblr media
1. Ichabod Crane.
For some, it’s probably an obvious no brainer to put the main character at the top of the ranks. However, in all honesty, I would argue it’s more surprising to do so, since - as we all know - the MAIN character of any series isn’t necessarily one’s FAVORITE, nor the BEST. But in the case of “Sleepy Hollow”...there is no question, this is just a case where the central protagonist is my favorite. I think a lot of the credit goes to the actor, Tom Mison: while the character he plays owes precious little to Washington Irving’s spindly schoolmaster, something about the personality he gives Ichabod, and the way Mison looks, in general, just feels so much like it captures the basic DNA of the character we all know and love, while adding something brand new and utterly fascinating to the mix. Much of the humor from the series comes from Ichabod’s “fish out of water” status - a man from a past long-misunderstood, stuck in a future-present he is still struggling to fully understand. At the same time, much of the pathos for the character comes from the same place: a constant theme in the series is Ichabod constantly battling between the sense of being alone in the universe, and realizing that maybe he isn’t AS alone as he really thinks. Throughout the series, he loses allies, friends, family, and even loved ones…but through it all, he perseveres, and finds new people to assist him, as well as new enemies to combat. There is never a dull moment when Ichabod is onscreen, and that’s thankfully most of the show’s runtime, given his status as the main character. He is by no means my definitive take on the classic character, but he is a strong and interesting protagonist in his own right, and it’s easy to see why, when all else failed, you could count on Ichabod to keep people coming back to the show, over and over again. It’s really not a shock at all that Ichabod Crane is My Favorite Character from FOX’s Sleepy Hollow.
Honorable Mentions…
Sheriff August Corbin. (He’s played by Clancy Brown. ‘Nuff said.)
George Washington.
Benjamin Franklin.
Andy Brooks.
Betsy Ross.

Special Guest Gianetta Murray - Author of Moved to Murder: A Vivien Brandt Mystery - #AuthorInterview / #Giveaway - Great Escapes Book Tour @gianettamurray
Tumblr media
Moved to Murder: A Vivien Brandt Mystery by Gianetta Murray It is my pleasure to welcome Gianetta Murray to Escape With Dollycas today! Hi Gianetta, Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Just like my protagonist in Moved to Murder, I’m a California native who worked as a librarian and tech writer, and I moved to the UK after marrying a Brit. (Write what you know, they say!) I now live in South Yorkshire with my husband and two cats, and my UK career included stints as a Library Operations Manager for a York university as well as working in knowledge management for the National Health Service and a medical insurance company. My first job in the UK was managing a small branch library, and I learned most of my British swear words from the kids who hung out there. I enjoy Hollywood Musicals, interior design, and rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My husband and I bought each other ukeleles, with which we plan to terrorize my relatives during Zoom calls. What is the first book you remember reading? I have fond memories of the Dick and Jane books we read in school as well as my Nancy Drew mysteries collection, but a book that had a huge effect on me as a youngster was The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. I still go back and read it on occasion as I love the main character, a free-spirited young woman who has trouble adapting to Puritan New England. What are you reading now? I’ve just finished Holly Trinity and the Ghosts of York, a wonderful urban fantasy novel by Ben Sawyer, whom I met at a local book fair. I’ve also just discovered Becky Clark, a cozy mystery writer from Colorado, whose books make me laugh out loud. What books have most inspired you? In addition to the above, I love reading Golden Age mystery writers, particularly Josephine Tey and Ngaio Marsh. Their prose is just so beautiful. I also keep a copy of T.H. White’s Once and Future King close by, one of my favorite retellings of the King Arthur legend. I earned an archeology degree so I could go out and find Camelot, but that goal may have to be achieved in another life now. What made you decide you wanted to write mysteries? Reading tons of them. 😊 I enjoy the process of logically working through the clues, solving puzzles, particularly when they are accompanied by colorful characters and fascinating locations. We all know the world contains bad things, but mysteries—particularly cozy mysteries—allow us to vicariously resolve them and be comforted, at least for a little while. Do you have a special place where you like to write? We have a small office in our house which I have decorated with all my Buffy paraphernalia. Unfortunately, my husband has claimed it since Covid allowed him to work from home, because he’s the one still making money. So I write at the dining room table, although I still have a view of the garden from there. Where do the ideas for your books come from? Moved to Murder is full of my own experiences from trying to adapt to England. Well, minus the part about finding dead bodies, of course. My book of humorous paranormal stories, A Supernatural Shindig, as well as stories in various other collections, were partly inspired by writing exercises we did in my writing group, suggestions from my husband, ideas spurred by my favorite television shows (Castle in particular is full of inspiration), and my own imagination, which has proved very fruitful once I started exercising it more! Is there anything about writing you find most challenging? It has actually flowed better than I thought it would, with twists and turns suggesting themselves as I went along (although I do always start with an outline). But letting go is hard. I think most writers want to keep editing and rewriting until perfection is reached, and that way madness lies. What do you think makes a good story? There has to be some kind of conflict as well as entertaining and empathetic characters who grow as the conflict is resolved. Personally, I also enjoy a good dollop of humor and a clever turn of phrase. Which, of all your characters, do you think is the most like you? Oh, that’s definitely Vivien Brandt, the protagonist of Moved to Murder. Except she’s younger, thinner, and more optimistic than I am. But we do have similar hairdos at the moment. What makes your books different from others out there in this genre? In the case of Moved to Murder, it’s set in a South Yorkshire city called Doncaster, and I can’t find any other mysteries with that backdrop. It’s definitely a place of contrasts, with a history of train and plane building as well as home to a famous annual horse race. But it also has a reputation for wild drunkenness on the weekends. Second, my protagonist is an American expat who moves to England thinking she knows everything about her new country and doesn’t have to worry about the language. She’s wrong on both counts. I think in general my stories tend to have quite a bit of humor in them, even the scary ones, to counter the conflict and leave the reader with a sense of well-being. What’s next on the horizon for you? I’ve just finished editing the next edition of the Paths short story collection, which I do with a group of Canadian and British writers, and I’m working on the second Vivien Brandt mystery, Dug to Death. Of course, there’s always providing my cats Cordelia and Winifred with their next meal, as they are staring at me expectantly at this moment! Character Intro: Quincy, Devilspawn
Tumblr media
Name: Quincy Marks | Species: Demon | Homeland: Hell | Sexuality: Pansexual | Book: (Demon) Hunting for Love | Picrew | Pinterest
Quincy is a hedonist, through and through. He finds great joy in doing exactly what he wants when he wants, whether that’s watching ridiculous demon hunting shows while drinking cognac or hosting a demon hunting show so he can play a long con on the other host.
It’s only when he falls in love with said co-host that Quincy seriously considers if this was a good idea or not.
Backstory
Growing up in Hell isn’t exactly easy when you’re the Devil’s son, despite what other demons may think. Quincy’s had a target on his back ever since he was a little boy. Quincy’s childhood wasn’t good. At all. Even for a demon, it was rough. Satan’s not exactly a great father. After the first couple murder attempts, Quincy learned how to protect himself the best he could, and Satan went pretty hands-off after that.
Quincy doesn’t really resent his father as much as he hates Hell and everything about it. Instead of playing the exhausting games of manipulation and backstabbing that his siblings and the other demons play, Quincy spends most of his time on Earth, living glamorously, and only visits Hell when he needs a favor or wants to gloat.
Personality
Other than being a hedonist with some serious childhood trauma, Quincy is pretty happy-go-lucky. He loves cracking jokes and spends a lot of his time grinning. He’s also one of those “Devil’s Advocate” type guys who loves pissing people off. Especially Otto, who is pretty easy to frustrate once you know how to push his buttons. Quincy loves to laugh, even if it’s at his own joke.
He’s someone who doesn’t take anything seriously. Even if it’s Hell-related. Quincy avoids conflict like no other, unless it’s about something ridiculous that he can get a good laugh out of.
Quincy is also just pretty antagonistic in general. Since Otto’s Twitter user is “notvonbismark”, Quincy’s is “yesvonbismark”. The official Instagram for them is “DemonSpotting”, so Quincy’s is “DemonSquatting”. Dumb shit like that.
He has a doctorate in Latin (from… many many years ago), a love of cognac, and the ability to laugh at anything that happens to him. And the ability to be really, really annoying. Like, really annoying. To the point that Otto wonders if smothering him is the correct course of action.
I really love writing Quincy. Probably because he acts a lot like a mixture of my husband and I. My husband loves being the Devil’s advocate, and I have a nasty habit of being ridiculously giggly all the time. Combine that with our inability to take most anything seriously, and you get Quincy Marks.
What Makes This Man Tick?
For some reason, Quincy finds himself fascinated with Otto Reyes-Ma. Absolutely fucking enraptured by him. At first, he thinks it’s because Otto somehow managed to both summon and almost trap a demon on total accident, but then it becomes more… complicated.
He thinks it might be the fact that Otto is terrified of damn near everything supernatural, even though he can’t see them like Quincy can. Or the fact that, despite his fears of the paranormal, he spends his free time spelunking caves and rock climbing. You know, the two safest hobbies on planet Earth.
Suffice to say, Quincy finds Otto to be an interesting critter.
He quickly falls for Otto in a way that surprises him and leaves him wondering how exactly he, a centuries-old being, can love a human like this. Quincy has a crisis about this, of course.
Looks
As a demon, Quincy looks pretty much what you expect him to look like. A little like a play on the classic Baphomet with the big horns, goat legs, serpent’s tail, and tits (gotta give my characters the same big-titted curse I have), but a human face. He’s not exactly… comfortable with the way he naturally looks as a demon, as a trans guy and all, so most of the time when he’s in Hell, he’s in just his human form with the addition of his gnarly horns.
Quincy is very particular with how he looks as a human. He has a curated aesthetic with his tattoos (Satanic and occult), his piercings (lots), and his clothes (rich kid faux-goth). I love writing a good vain character.
My favorite tattoo of Quincy’s (besides the large Baphomet with wings extended on his sternum in true trans guy style) is his 666 tramp stamp, based on a Tweet I saw about the “mark of the beast” actually being a 666 tramp stamp. It’s lived rent-free in my mind and I had to give it to Quincy, because… duh.
Social Media
Quincy has a perfectly-curated social media. The type of Insta page that makes you feel inadequate. His captions are dry, humorous, and incredibly ironic. He’s pretty much perfect influencer-bait. When he makes a post on any DemonSpotting page, you automatically know it’s him. Quincy’s a huge fan of dry, self-aware humor. He has all his Instagram stories curated to different themes, and he’d rather die than have a post out of place.
His Twitter is a bit of a disaster though. Between sharing a lot of different academic tweets, pictures of himself (mostly shirtless), and behind the scenes content for DemonSpotting, it’s a beautiful disaster.
I think Quincy’s Tumblr is where he’d really shine, though. It’s the perfect mix of artsy pictures of himself (again, mostly shirtless so he can show off those sweet demonic tattoos), Latin phrases (some in his own calligraphy), aesthetic posts, academic papers, and demonology stuff to make someone like me lose their fucking mind. It’s one of the only social medias that doesn’t have a username that’s an ironic take on one of Otto’s, and instead has been xxxDemonMarksxxx ever since he made it in the first place.
Playlist-wise, this man has a few playlists he thinks fit certain occasions. With beautiful covers, of course.

In this blog entry, I will dive into Peli's influence on the genre, his directorial style, and his contributions to horror cinema.

Critical Evaluation
According to a critical evaluation by film scholar Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, Peli's "Paranormal Activity" is significant for its innovative use of technology and minimalism. Heller-Nicholas argues that Peli's work reinvigorated the found footage genre by focusing on psychological horror rather than shock value. She notes that Peli's ability to create a terrifying experience with a limited budget demonstrates his skill in understanding and manipulating audience expectations.

Oren Peli's contribution to the found footage genre cannot be overstated. His ability to create tension and fear through simplicity has left a lasting impact on horror cinema. "Paranormal Activity" remains a benchmark for low-budget filmmaking, proving that a compelling story and innovative direction can have great success despite financial constraints. Peli's work emphasizes the power of suggestion, encouraging audiences to use their imagination, which often results in a more profound and lasting sense of fear. Despite some of his later works not achieving the same level of praise, Peli's influence on the genre is undeniable, and his approach continues to inspire filmmakers around the world.

Moth man, friend or foe?
In the annals of paranormal lore, few creatures are as enigmatic as the Mothman. Originating from the small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the Mothman has fascinated and terrified believers and skeptics alike for decades. But who, or what, is the Mothman, and what role does it play in the strange events that unfolded in Point Pleasant in the 1960s?
Tumblr media
The Mothman is described as a humanoid creature with large wings, glowing red eyes, and a penchant for appearing before disasters strike. Witnesses claim to have seen the creature in the vicinity of the abandoned West Virginia Ordnance Works, known as the TNT area, where it reportedly terrorized locals and visitors alike.
The Mothman legend reached its peak in 1966 and 1967 when sightings of the creature became widespread in Point Pleasant. However, what truly cemented the Mothman's place in history was the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967, which claimed the lives of 46 people. (Below is a statue depicting moth man, in Henderson West Virgina at point pleasant)
Tumblr media
Opinions on the Mothman's intentions vary widely. Some believe that the creature was a warning sign, appearing to alert residents of an impending disaster. They point to the numerous sightings in the months leading up to the bridge collapse as evidence of the Mothman's prophetic abilities.
On the other hand, skeptics argue that the Mothman was nothing more than a mass hallucination or a misidentified creature, such as a large owl or a sandhill crane. They dismiss the idea of the Mothman as a harbinger of doom and attribute the sightings to a combination of fear, hysteria, and suggestion.
Tumblr media
The Mothman legend is not without its conspiracy theories. Some believe that the creature was part of a government experiment gone wrong, while others suggest that it was an extraterrestrial being or a supernatural entity sent to Earth for unknown purposes.
Additionally, there are theories that the Mothman was somehow connected to the collapse of the Silver Bridge. Some speculate that the creature caused the disaster through its supernatural abilities, while others suggest that it was a mere coincidence.
Tumblr media
Mothman has become a little bit of a sensation on the internet, catching the eye of many with its status as a cryptid and the conspiracies surrounding it and oddly enough many people just find it cute. Obviously no one really knows what the mothman looks even with witness accounts, however many artists depict the mothman in a cute and “Fuzzy” manner.
Tumblr media
The conspiracy:
A lesser known part of the moth man mythos is that he or a similarly described entity have been sighted elsewhere, coincidentally or not also before disasters have happened, a prime example of this is “The black bird of Chernobyl ”. Like Mothman the Black bird was described as a flying humanoid with wings and glowing red eyes, days before the Chernobyl disaster the black bird was seen flying overhead from the control room by many of the men working that day, it is also said that the creature appeared the day of the explosion soon after it occurred some of the clean up crews claimed to have seen it. Keep in mind the men in the control room would have been highly skilled nuclear specialists and technicians people unlikely to fabricate something like this or to be fooled by a trick of the mind.
Tumblr media
The mystery of the Mothman continues to captivate imaginations and spark debate to this day. Whether it was a warning, a hoax, or something else entirely, the legend of the Mothman has left an indelible mark on the town of Point Pleasant and the world of the paranormal. As long as sightings and stories persist, the truth behind the Mothman may remain forever elusive.

Character Analysis
The four main characters of The Haunting of Hill House are Dr. John Montague, Eleanor Vance, Theodora, and Luke Sanderson. Each of them has a distinct personality that is explored throughout the story. Dr. Montague is an academic who is fascinated by the supernatural, and he invites the other three characters to Hill House to help him investigate its paranormal occurrences. Eleanor Vance is a shy and reserved woman who is eager to escape her mundane life and experience something exciting. She quickly becomes the focus of the haunting, and her psychological state begins to unravel as the story progresses. Theodora is a free-spirited and unconventional artist who is drawn to Eleanor and becomes her close confidante. Luke Sanderson is the heir to Hill House and serves as the group's host. He is skeptical of the supernatural and is more concerned with maintaining his family's legacy than investigating the haunting. Throughout the story, each character's personality and past experiences play a significant role in the way they react to the supernatural occurrences in Hill House. Eleanor's troubled past and desire for acceptance make her particularly susceptible to the haunting, while Theodora's artistic nature allows her to sense the energy in the house. Meanwhile, Dr. Montague's academic curiosity blinds him to the emotional toll that the investigation is taking on the other characters. The characters' psychological states and personal histories offer deeper insight into the themes of the novel. The haunting is not just a supernatural phenomenon, but a reflection of each character's internal struggles. The novel explores the nature of fear and how it can manifest differently in each individual.
Analysis
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is considered a masterpiece of horror. The novel explores the themes of fear and the unknown through supernatural events that occur at Hill House. The novel is not just a simple horror story but uses the supernatural to symbolize the characters' internal struggles. The main characters are all dealing with their own demons and psychological issues. The supernatural events at Hill House uncover these issues and ultimately bring them to the brink of insanity. The protagonist Eleanor Vance, for example, is struggling with feelings of being unwanted and the fear of loneliness. The supernatural events at Hill House magnify these feelings and lead to a breakdown in her mental state. The novel also explores the idea of perception and how it affects reality. Each character perceives the supernatural events in different ways, highlighting their unique experiences and perspectives. Ultimately, the novel shows that reality is not objective, but shaped by individual consciousness. The use of symbolism in the novel is also significant. The supernatural events are not just random occurrences, but instead, they symbolize the characters' internal struggles. The house itself is a symbol of the characters' fears and anxieties. Jackson uses subtle details to create a sense of unease throughout the novel. The Haunting of Hill House is not just a horror story but a psychological thriller that explores the nature of fear and perception. The novel’s supernatural events are symbolic of the characters' internal struggles and the plot is centered around their psychological experiences. Shirley Jackson's use of symbolism and her ability to unnerve the reader through language make this novel a must-read for horror and suspense fans.
