Wait until you like me again - 18+
See part 1 | Part 2 of We can't be friends (wait for your love) | See part 3
The decision to resign puts a lot of weight on your shoulders. A takedown gone wrong makes it the least of anyone's concerns, especially Spencerâs. Youâre not willing to let him back in; it feels too little, too late.

The most annoying part about making a decision in haste is the clarity of the situation when the dust settles. Itâd taken Hotch just over two minutes to message you after youâd sent your email.Â
From: Boss Man đ¶ đ My office, first thing tomorrow.Â
You didnât take into account that youâd have to explain your sudden resignation to your unit chief, or that youâd need to think of a good enough goodbye to lessen the hurt of abandoning your friends. These are people you consider your found family; youâre leaving behind years worth of bonds with no proper warning or closure, in a measly few weeks. Your reasoning had to be good enough to convince them that this was for the best.Â
To convince you that this was for the best.Â
Youâd spent the whole night in tears, racking your brain for an excuse, because âthe person you care most about in this world and unrequited love of your life telling you that he didnât want to see your face was a pathetic reason for discarding your lifeâs work. No matter how hard you tried, you couldnât think of adequate justification. Even as the sun rose and you made your way through your pre-work routine, nothing came to mind.Â
âYou canât love me.â
Any time you tried to conjure up a defence your thoughts would wander back to Spencer. Too many words had been exchanged between you and your former best friend in the span of four months and not a single one of them properly explained why he was so butt-hurt. He loves you too much, but doesnât want you to love him? Thatâs your understanding, at least.Â
âPlease donât come back here. Itâs hard enough at work, I donât want to see your face in my personal time too.âÂ
Since youâd left his apartment the previous night, youâd been cycling through all the stages of grief in record time. Spencer once told you that people tend to remember more negative memories than positive. He was right. You couldnât recall a lot of your happier memories with him. All you could think about was the two conversations where heâd hurt you in ways you never imagined he would.Â
Youâre not sure exactly what part of you snapped at that moment, all you knew was that you were done making him the centre of your universe. Spencer Reid played no part in your decisions moving forward. He was not the reason for your departure with the BAU, a lie you made sure to relay to Hotch during your meeting with him.
âIâm just surprised, thatâs all. Where is this even coming from?â He inquired from across you, hands folded neatly against his desk.
âI just think itâs time for me to try new things, you know?â It was a pathetic excuse, but less pathetic than the actual reasoning.Â
âI try not to interfere with the personal lives of the team, but this is just soâŠsudden. I have to wonder if this has to do with Spencer?â
âThis has nothing to do with him.â You go out of your way to avoid saying his name, suspecting you might taste poison.Â
Hotchâs brow raises, as if his brain has been alerted to key information, head marginally tilting to the side like it does when he catches a lie. He doesnât say anything, eyes narrowing in on you in stoic fashion. You feel like a petulant child thatâs about to receive a scolding from their father.Â
âHonâHonestlyâŠHotch, I justââ
Three rapid knocks cut you off, the door to the office swinging open without waiting for a reply.Â
âSir, Hello, Iâm sorry to interrupt but itâs an emergency. That case we were consulting on for Anchorage PD?â Garcia bursts into the room, slightly discoloured and more panicked than normal. âWell, five more bodies were discovered. Two of them pre-date who we initially thought was the first victim.â
âGarcia, tell everybody to meet on the jet ASAP. Weâll debrief on the flight.â Hotch orders abruptly standing from his seat. âYou and I can finish this meeting later. This case is now our top priority, wheels up.âÂ
Emily, Rossi and Derek were already in their seats when you boarded. You secured your go bag in one of the overhead compartments and temporarily took a seat next to Derek.Â
âHow bad do you think this one is gonna be?â Derek sighs, dreading the horrors that await your arrival.Â
âWeâre up to thirty six bodies and counting. Whoever this unsub is, theyâve been at it a while. So, bad.â You answer honestly.Â
âSpeaking of bad, is everything okay?â
âThat was not even remotely smooth.â You scoff.Â
âIâm just asking as a concerned friend.â He shoots his hands up in defence.
âWhat happened to the days where we at least tried to mind our business. You know, at least asked each other about our weekend plans before jumping into interrogation mode.â You roll your eyes and smirk.Â
âHeyyy, woahâ no oneâs interrogating anyone.â Derek chuckles. âWhat are your plans for the weekend?â
It wasnât long before everybody had made their way on the jet, Spencer being the last one. You didnât notice his arrival, too engulfed in your conversation. He definitely noticed you though. The sound of your giggles caught his attention the second he was in ear shot. He didnât like how warm he felt at the sight of your smiling face. What he disliked more was that he could instantly tell that it wasnât a genuine smile.Â
He quietly made his way to his self assigned seat on the couch, trying his hardest to focus on anything but you. Every laugh that Morgan coaxed out of you bothered him. Spencerâs agony only ended once the jet had successfully taken off.Â
âAlright letâs get started.â Hotch declared and everybody moved to gather around.Â
With all the details laid out by Garcia through the monitor, everybody began stating facts and suggestions. You wrapped up soon enough and retreated to an isolated seat in the back of the jet. It was an almost eight hour flight, seven of which you were planning to use to come up with a solid plan to announce your departure. Life always has to throw a wrench in your plans though, because the lack of sleep from the night before caught up to you and you dozed off almost immediately. Had you any energy left in your body, you might have been privy to the eyes that were on you.Â
âShe didnât say anything as to what the meeting was about?â JJ hushedly pries from her raven haired co worker in the cramped kitchenette. Â
âNo, but Garcia said that âthe air in his office was really tenseâ.â Emily relays, her fingers mimicking quotation marks. âDid Hotch say anything?â
âNo. He just gave me his usual dry look and told me to focus on the case.â JJ rolls her eyes at the thought and leans back against the counter.Â
Despite being the FBIâs most decorated task force, the agents of the BAU werenât strangers to workplace gossip. Youâd just entered the bullpen this morning when Hotch frantically summoned you to his office, not even giving you time to set your things down at your desk. Witnessing the events sparked a guessing game sparked amongst the team.Â
âIs it something we should know about?â Sitting across from Hotch, even Rossi succumbed to his curiosity.Â
âDave youâre not normally one to pry.â Hotch smirks, keeping his eyes on the case-file laid out in front of him.Â
âNo Iâm not. But with the events of the past few months...â Rossi sips his coffee, staring at his younger superior expectantly. â...thereâs been some talk Aaron.â
âTalk?â Hotch meets Rossiâs eyes.
âMhm.â Rossi nods. âApparently youâre transferring one of our two youngest members because they havenât been able to put their differences aside.â
âIâm not transferring anyone. Where did this come from?â The alarm in his tone makes Rossi snicker.
âOffice drama. You know how it is. And while you may not be transferring anybody,â he sets his mug down and looks towards where youâre sound asleep. âIâm guessing somebody is leaving. Hence this morning's meeting.â
âWeâre not supposed to profile each other, you know.â Hotch sighs. âIâd appreciate it if you could keep this contained. I havenât had a chance to properly discuss this with her yet and I think sheâd prefer to break the news herself.âÂ
As you had predicted the case was by no means an easy one. On the first day everybody was split into groups to follow up with the M.E, victimsâ families and examine the crime scenes. All the evidence and information gathered wasnât enough to narrow the profile any more than the generic: male, mid thirties to early forties, hates women. You were now three days in with no viable leads.Â
You were especially frustrated because you felt that you werenât working as well as you could. The stress of your announcement was taking its toll, you were unable to properly converse with your team out of guilt. Hotch sent everyone back to their hotel rooms with the idea that you would start fresh tomorrow. Normally you would room with Spencer, but lately JJ and Emily have been taking turns rooming with both of you. This time you were with Emily.
âI think this may be the first night weâve gotten to turn in early.â Emily yawns as she dramatically stretches her limbs.
âIâm just glad we got to turn in at all, for a while there it looked like we may have to pull another all nighter.â You force a giggle, exasperated. Â
âYou okay?â She doesnât miss a beat, taking the opportunity to ask about your uneasiness.Â
âYeah, fine.â You smile, but it doesnât quite reach your eyes.Â
âYouâre going to snap at some point, you know?â She examines your closed off posture, trying to figure out a way to get you to open up. âSomethingâs clearly wrong. Talk to me.â
âWeâre all on edge right now. Itâs this case.â You hope that youâre being convincing enough.Â
âIt's more than that. Youâve been distant from everybody.â Emily briefly thought back to the Ian Doyle debacle, recognising all the signs of somebody preparing to run away at any given moment.Â
âIâm aware that Iâm not working to my full potentialââ
âThatâs not what I mean and you know that.â She steps closer to you. âI canât force you to tell me whateverâs actually on your mind, but I would really appreciate it if you would. I hate seeing you soâŠdetached. Not just from us, but from yourself.â
Itâs the empathy in her voice instead of the usual sympathy that finally cracks you. Tears pool your eyes and you sink to the floor. Emily sits down next to you without a word. She tries to pull you in for a hug but you push away.Â
âPlease donât.â You sob. âIâm sorry.â
She squeezes your knee to relay that she understands and retracts her hand. Your discomfort with physical touch was another thing you had in common with Spencer. It was just a personal preference for you, unlike his germophobia. He was the only person you were actually comfortable with in terms of touch, but you couldnât fault others for not respecting that boundary when youâd never verbalised it.Â
âIâve been trying to figure out the right way to tell you guys, but I donât think thereâs any way this gets easier.â You recompose yourself after a moment. âIâm, um, leaving.â
You expect her to get upset with you, but find her unfazed.Â
âYou donât look surprised.âÂ
âWell itâs not entirely surprising. I mean given everything thatâs happened.âÂ
âSo youâre not mad?â
âWhy would I be mad?â She leans back with her mouth slightly open.Â
âBecause I feel like Iâm abandoning you guys.â You heavily exhale.Â
âYouâre not abandoning us. Youâre doing what you feel is right for you. I mean, am I happy about it? Definitely not. But I know better than anyone why you feel like you need to do this. And itâs not a decision you have to justify to anybody.â Emily reassures you.Â
âHow do I tell everybody else?â You push for more advice.
âHowever you feel most comfortable doing it. It doesnât have to be some big announcement. You can casually break it to them whenever you get the opportunity. Theyâll understand.âÂ
âThank you, Em.â You genuinely smile this time, eternally grateful that sheâs managed to take some pressure off your shoulders.
âNow while youâre in a mood to shareâŠif you wanna talk about something elseââ She attempts one last time to get you to talk about Spencer, sensing that the mood lightened a bit.Â
âNice try.â You laugh as you rise to your feet, offering your arms out to her to help her stand.
The following two days were a lot easier on you, mentally. You took Emilyâs advice and disclosed your news individually to each team member, each of them more understanding than youâd anticipated. You were surprised to learn that Rossi was already aware, assuming that it came with being a profiler for as long as he had. Derek and JJ did try to talk you out of it initially, but accepted your decision in the end. You still had to talk about this with Garcia, but felt a lot more at ease with mostly everybody knowing.
Except Spencer.
That thought lingered in the back of your mind. You still love him, itâs not something you can just turn off. You shake it off and divert your full attention to the case. Four more bodies had been discovered and with them, a new pattern to the killings. The unsub was devolving. You and Spencer were the only ones at the precinct when the last murder was called in. Meaning you were stuck working on the geographical profile with him while the others were out chasing new leads.Â
Realistically, only one of you was needed to build the profile and decided you were going to let him do it. You quietly sat in the furthest seat possible, trying to make yourself invisible and hoping that this would keep him busy enough to not talk to you. The whole week, you hadnât uttered a single word to him unless it was absolutely necessary for the case. It was as if he didnât exist, even if he was standing right infront of you. Spencer, on the other hand, spent the whole week prodding you for any reaction he could get. Anytime you made suggestions and he happened to be in the area, he tried to one up you.
At times it felt like he was purposely seeking you out, despite his brutal proclamation five days ago. Every attempt to rile you up failed. The most acknowledgement he got from you was a few scoffs and glares. He hadnât even realised he was doing it, until Derek asked him point blank what his problem was. He didnât have an answer, but now that he was aware of it he tried to go out of his way to avoid it.Â
That didnât last more than a few hours. The fact that he had to consciously avoid talking to you pissed him off, especially because he couldnât stop. You pretending like he didnât exist pissed him off even more. The one time he took his eyes off the board in front of him they landed on you. You were busy scribbling words in a file, trying to get a head start on your paperwork.Â
âDo you plan to help at all?â He sneers, noticing that you looked a lot more relaxed than you did at the start of the case.Â
You snap your head towards the board behind him. A rough venn diagram was drawn on a map of the city, small tacked notes labelling prominent buildings in the area.Â
âHow am I meant to help?â You question, darting your eyes between him and the board out of confusion.
âYouâre asking me how to do your job?â He taunts, tilting his head and narrowing his eyes.
You dramatically groan, throwing your head back.Â
Itâs hard to believe that heâs a man of logic in moments like these. There have been far too many in the last few months. You bounce off your seat and head over to the board. Spencer stays glued in his spot and your body accidentally brushes against his as you try to get past. He watches you take off some notes and add on new ones but doesnât register what youâre doing at first. Heâs too intoxicated by your scent. His hand runs through his hair as he steps back in an effort to regain his composure. His teeth grit and his jaw tenses momentarily, he hates that you have the ability to do this to him.Â
âWhat do you think youâre doing?â The pitch of his voice raises and his ears are burning.
âWhat do you mean?â You roll your eyes, shrugging your arms, sarcasm laced in your words.Â
âDonât try to act all dumb!â He berates, shaking his head.Â
âDonât try to act all smart.â Your eyes roll again. Spencer was slowly starting to wear down your apathy.Â
âI am smart.â He scoffs. Your blood boils, this trump card is becoming too repetitive.
âSavour that, itâs the one good thing youâve got going for you!â You finally snap.Â
âYouâre UNBELIEVABLE! The first time you bother to answer me all week and itâs just to argue?â Heâs trying his best to refrain from yelling.
âOh! Youâve been trying to start an argument all week and now that Iâm giving in you canât take it?! Actually, why have you been trying so hard, Doctor? I was under the impression that you canât even stand to look at my face!â
He dryly swallows, unable to respond immediately. The reminder of his words makes him internally cringe. He never meant to say them. It was the most efficient way he could think of at that time to hurt you. Spencer hadnât anticipated the sheer amount of will power it would take to stay away from you. You seeking him out made it infinitely harder. His fake disdain was a defence mechanism, he was hiding behind hatred to get the job done.Â
âYOUââ
âAlright, thatâs enough!â Hotch loudly cuts him off.Â
Neither you nor Spencer noticed the teams return during your squabble. Youâre slightly embarrassed, wondering how much theyâve witnessed. Spencer turns away from you and looks to the blank wall on the other side of the room. You look to the floor and bite the inside of your cheek.Â
âCare to explain whatâs going on?â He grills and you feel like a petulant child receiving a lecture from your father.Â
âShe wasnât doing her job!â Spencer complains. âAnd when I brought it up she messed up my profile!â
âGod youâre insufferable! Itâs called ânarrowing the profileâ, Spencer. Maybe if you did it properly, I wouldnât have to.â You retort.Â
âHey!â Hotch scolds.
It falls silent for a second, awkward glances finding their way around the room. Rossi breaks it first.Â
âYou know, if I didnât know any better, Iâd think you two were bickering toddlers instead of FBI agents.â
You make eye contact with Morgan trying to hold in a laugh and it makes you snort.Â
âWe will discuss this later. Letâs focus on the updates weâve gathered.â Hotch dismisses due to more pressing matters at hand.Â
âAfter talking to friends of the latest victims, I can confirm that they were all last seen in the same club.â JJ pipes up first.
âAnd the dumpsites are all less than twenty minutes away from there. Heâs definitely not holding them anymore.â Morgan adds.
âThat has to be where heâs choosing his victims. Did the medical examiner find anything new?â Hotch asks.
âTraces of GHB.â Emily replies. âWe donât know how heâs administering it into their systems, but my guess would be through the drinks.â
âGamma-hydroxybutyrate, mostly known as GHB, is a party drug that produces feelings of euphoria, confidence, relaxation and sociability. Side effects of GHB can include drowsiness, vomiting, mood swings, dependence, as well as more serious symptoms of unconsciousness. When mixed with alcohol the risk of overdose increases as it can cause respiratory collapse leading to coma or in extreme cases death.â Spencerâs about to continue but quickly recognises that itâs a tangent he needs to cut short.Â
âWait JJ what club were the victims last seen in?â You inquire, walking closer to the map.
When she relays the name it clicks.Â
âThatâs smack in the middle of the comfort zone.â You point at a small red note labelling the building.Â
âSo how do we catch this guy? I mean the club would be packed and we donât know what this guy looks like. The profile tells us that he would blend in, nothing would stand out about him.â Morgan subtly suggests a string operation.
âExcept for when heâs alone with the object of his rage. Which in our case would be the women heâs using as surrogates. He'd be possessive, become clingy, hold on too tight and once those advances are rejected heâd fly into blind rage.â Spencer exclaims without realising the weight of his input.Â
âYeahâŠbut he has a very specific type.â Rossi hesitates.Â
A fact that everybody had been avoiding the case because of how close it hit to home.Â
Youâre his exact type.
âNo.â Hotch shuts down.
âHotch, think about it. I mean this guy is not slowing down. A sting might be our best bet to stop him before he kills again.â JJ shares Rossiâs hesitation.
âItâs too risky!â Spencer blurts, making it clear heâs against the idea.Â
Everyone begins to chime in with their input, but you stay silent and think it over. None of them wanted to put you in this position, but youâd seen the bodies and what heâd done to those women. What heâll continue to do to other women if he isnât stopped. It was a no brainer on your end.Â
âIâll do it!â You announce amidst the chatter.
It comes to an immediate halt, all eyes shifting on you.
âWhat?â Spencer scoffs.
You can tell that heâs genuinely surprised by the small hitch in his voice. Emily sceptically calls your name, posing it as a question.Â
âIâll do it.â You reiterate, taking care to seem as confident as possible.
âAbsolutely not! The odds of this going wrong are way too high!â Spencer howls with a little too much passion.Â
âReidâs right. The unsub is way too unpredictable.â Hotch debates.
âJJ has a point, think about it!â You argue. âWe know for a fact that heâs going to strike tonight. Sending me undercover as bait is better than staking out the place and waiting for him to target a civilian!âÂ
âOkay so letâs send somebody else!â Spencer contests, his tone prayerful.Â
For a split second, you see your best friend again. Heâs showing more regard for you now than he has in months and it makes your heart sink knowing it wonât be forever. Still, you try to reason with him while heâs there.
âThereâs no time! I fit his type. This is our best option.â
âNo, this is stupid and dangerous. Youâre not going in there!â Heâs gone again.Â
âThatâs not your call to make!â You snap.Â
âHotch no!â Spencer tries again.
âKid, relax! This isnât her first undercover mission.â Morgan attempts to calm Reid. âPlus weâll all be there in case anything goes wrong.â
âStatisticallyââ
âFor Godâs sake forget the fucking statistics! Peopleâs lives are at stake!â You loudly end his tangent before it can begin.Â
âAlright, everybody calm down!â Hotch speaks up, making it a point to stare down Spencer.Â
Heâd made his decision and Spencer can only stare back in disbelief, too breathless to argue.Â
âLike Morgan said, weâll be there watching over you, along with some local law enforcement. You wonât be wired, but weâll have a fail safe just in case you need backup earlier than expected. We donât have a lot of time. Letâs get to work.â The unit chief asserts.Â
Before anyone can make any further moves, Spencer storms out of the room. JJ runs after him, assuring Hotch that sheâll take care of it. The rest of you break off to your assigned tasks, preparing for the operation that night.Â
âSpence! Slow down!â She yells, chasing him all the way outside the precinct.Â
Heâs breathing too fast, practically on the edge of hyperventilating. He pushes his hair back with both of his hands, pacing back and forth on the sidewalk.Â
âSpence what the hell is going on with you?â JJ pants, reaching out to touch his shoulder.
âMe?!â Spencer yanks himself away from her. âWhat the hell is going on with all of you?! Youâre all insane for allowing her to do this!â
âSheâs a grown woman and a trained agent! This is her decision. She knows what sheâs getting herself into.â JJ reminds him.Â
âWell itâs not a very smart decision! She shouldnât be making decisions thisâŠthis reckless!â He shrieks.Â
âOkay you need to calm down!â JJ sternly states.Â
âJennifer, do not tell me to calm down! Sheâs about to make herself a direct target for a psychopathic sadist and youâre all just letting it happen!â
âSo what? Should we let some innocent woman become his next target?âÂ
âNo! Iâm not saying we shouldâ justâ why does it have to be her?!â The emphasis on his last word gives him away, JJ picks up on it instantly.Â
âThatâs what this is about? Câmon you know better than this.â She relaxes her shoulders. âSpencer, we all care about her. We all want her to be safe. And she will be as long as we separate out feelings fromââ
âFeelings? This has nothing to do with how I feelââ
âOkay stop! Stop! God!â JJ huffs with pauses between her words. âI am so sick of this! This is clearly about your feelings. The past four months have all been aboutââ
She smacks her hands against her face as she takes a deep breath, a display of frustration.Â
âListen to me.â She commands, exhausted from the back and forth. âItâs clear that you two care deeply for each other, whether youâre willing to admit it or not. Neither of you will talk about whatever it is thatâs caused this riftâ fine! But donât you think itâs time to bury the hatchet now that sheâs leaving?â
Spencer freezes.Â
â...Leaving?â He repeats, taken off guard.Â
JJ takes a moment to read his expression.Â
âShe didnât tell you?â JJ mutters, still scanning his face.Â
âWhatâ what are youâŠâ He canât find the words, his eyes blinking rapidly as he tries to process her words.
âSheâs resigning, Spencer. Sheâs leaving the FBI.â JJ canât hide how sheâs surprised that you havenât shared this with him.Â
âNo, that's not possible. She loves this job. Why would she leave?â Denial is his first response.
Spencer thinks over your possible motivations and can only land on the obvious. Youâd only leave if you grew to hate the job.Â
Did he do this? Did he make you hate it?
âWe were all surprised when she first told us, I mean, it came out of nowhere.â
âWe?â He rubs his temple, anticipating a possible migraine from the bomb that just dropped on him. âHow long?â
âWhat?â
âHow long have you guys known?â He balefully sighs, trying his hardest to not misplace his anger.Â
âItâs hard enough at work, I donât want to see your face in my personal time too.âÂ
He had no one to be angry at, but himself.
âA day? Maybe two? She told us individually. Honestly with this case I havenât had time to wrap my head around it.â JJ honestly reveals.Â
So not long. Maybe you were still making your way around to telling him? You wouldnât just leave without so much as telling him, would you?
A few months ago, Spencer wouldâve confidently answered no. Today he was sure that you would. He so badly hoped that he was wrong.Â
âSpence, look, we can talk about this later. But right now, you need to make sure youâre able to stay objective. Can you do that?â
He nods relentlessly, tucking his hair behind his ears. A habit he adapted early in life. It was an indicator of the gears turning in his head. JJ gives him a few more minutes outside before guiding him back in to help with preparations. Spencer absentmindedly performed his tasks, but all he could think about was you.Â
Youâre leaving and heâs the only person you hadnât disclosed this information to. Abandonment was a feeling he was all too used to, but he never imagined that youâd abandon him. He knows that he can only blame himself, but he still canât help the irritation thatâs creeping in his veins.Â
Even as he straps up his hidden bullet proof vest hours later, he canât push the sentiment away. You were setting yourself up as bait for one of the most dangerous types of serial killers. On top of purposely putting yourself in direct line danger, you were leaving without telling him. He wouldâve showed up to work one day and youâd be gone.
Right now he stands just a few feet away from you and you donât look toward him once. No one would be able to guess that youâre undercover. Itâs amazing how youâve managed to transform yourself from supervisory special agent to a regular socialite and party girl in a couple of hours.
If he could overcome the hurt he feels at the moment, he might see how breathtaking you look. Then again, you always appear breathtaking to him. Before he knows it, heâs walked right up to you. You donât feel his presence looming behind you until you bump into him when you turn around.Â
âShit Spencer!â You jump, mostly because of the nerves from the upcoming night.Â
Heâs about to say something but you beat him to it.
âDonât start! Iâm not in the mood.â You brush him off and disappear out of sight.
It was like that for much of the preparations. Heâd muster the courage to try and talk to you, and youâd walk away. Much like how Spencer would avoid you when your friendship first fell apart.Â
âEverybody in position?â Hotch inquires through his ear piece.Â
âAffirmative.â Morgan gives the greenlight for your entry into the club.Â
You made your way to the bar, making it a point to sit alone. You didnât have to wait long. Archie Carter, 36, cheated on by his ex fiance before their wedding. She ran away with another man because Archie failed to keep his sadistic traits hidden and it scared her off. Torturing and murdering women who looked like her was his way of giving her a real reason to be scared.Â
This was all information Garcia found after it was nearly too late. Heâd managed to get you on the dance floor, subtly injecting you with the GHB. You didnât even feel him do it. To everybody else it just seemed like you were playing your part really well on the dance floor, when in reality you were struggling to stand up. You couldnât give out any signals and he was able to slip you away into the back alley under the noses of five FBI agents.Â
It was Spencer whoâd found you fighting for your life against Archieâs grip around your throat. Spencer, who put the bullet in Archieâs head after being unable to talk him down. Spencer who kneeled above you, begging you to come back as he began CPR. If heâd found you any later you mightâve been gone for good.Â
Pissed was an understatement.
At the piece of shit that almost ripped you away from the world. At Hotch and the team for not listening. At himself for being right. Not you though, for the first time in a long time, he wasnât pissed at you. He was terrified. Both for you and for almost losing you.Â
You had to stay a few extra days in Anchorage, bound to your hospital room. The team refused to fly back without you, each of them taking turns to keep you company. They all felt an immense amount of guilt but you reassured them that it wasnât their fault. Your tongue grew tired of reminding them that this was a part of the job. Rossi joked that it was a good thing you were leaving it all behind in that case and it stung more than you were willing to admit.Â
In your brush with death you came to the revelation that you didnât want to leave, but hearing Spencerâs voice lull you back to him confirmed that you needed to. You couldnât bring yourself to hear him talk everyday and not be the person he was talking to. It was why you had basically barred him from visiting you during your recovery there. Seeing his face was more than you could handle at the time. Not seeing yours weighed on him, because he needed to see if you were okay.
Physically, he knew youâd be fine once the doctors confirmed it. Mentally, he knew all too well of the repercussions that came with almost dying directly by the hands of an unsub. Youâd been discharged and cleared fifty eight hours after you were admitted, and the team was ready to fly back a few hours later. All the signs of being less than okay were there. He recognised them as soon as he saw you board the jet.Â
Besides the obvious bruises collaring your neck, there was some minor swelling that lingered. That wasnât his biggest concern. It was the smile plastered on you when you put on your âIâm okayâ act for the others. Your eyes, like always, gave you away. You were already trying to sweep everything under the rug. Less than a few minutes after take off you isolated yourself in the back. Youâd been doing that a lot in your recent cases.Â
It irked him how everybody just let you. He decided right then that he wasnât going to. He didnât care how much you hate him, he was going to ensure that you came out of this truly okay. You were mindlessly staring out the window, counting the clouds, listening to the music playing through your headphones. You tried to ignore the feeling of being watched. Youâd felt like that since you came to, in the alley.Â
It took you a second to understand that you were actually being watched, turning to find Spencer in the previously empty seat across from you.Â
âYouâve gotta stop sneaking up on me.â You snark, ripping off your headphones, still recovering from the small jump scare.
âSorry.â He chuckles out of habit.
You unintentionally smile at the sound and find yourself staring in his eyes.Â
âAreââ He falters as he thinks the question over in his head. âIs there anything I can get you?â
Youâre taken aback, not expecting those words. You had a script prepared to waive off questions about your well being. He knows you better than that, throwing you off course as usual.
âWhat do you want?â You grumble, accepting that you couldnât get past him.
âI want to know if thereâs anything I can get you.â He repeats in a low tone.Â
There he is again. The Spencer you know and love. Your heart threatens to leap.
âIf this is to clear some guilty conscience, donât bother.â You verbally guard yourself. âIâm fine.â
It would be a lie if he said his reasoning was completely selfless. He was hardly able to keep away from you without feeling like he was drowning, but it was nothing compared to how he felt when he thought he may have lost you forever. The feeling didnât last very long, he was able to revive you within a few seconds, but never feeling like that again would be too soon.Â
Spencer believed in two things; statistics and facts. One fact he refused to ignore any longer is that he couldnât live without you. He quietly opened that satchel that still clung across his torso, fishing out some pain killers and an unopened water bottle.Â
âI know you probably forgot to take yours out of your bag.â He ignores your previous comment and slides the items across the table to you.Â
Your gaze lingers on the items in front of you, but your hands stay folded in your lap as you piece everything together.Â
âYou know.â You whisper.Â
âWere you going to tell me?â He gulps after a beat of silence.Â
âDoes it matter?â You're quick to respond.
âI wanna hear it from you.â Heâs just as fast.Â
You look up from the leaf of pills, heâs already surveilling you. Itâs a short lived staring contest because your focus shifts behind him to Hotch, whoâs observing this encounter from the kitchenette on the other end. Spencer continues waiting on you for a response but you stand up, ready to walk away. It dawns on you when you see your supervisor that technically you hadnât officially resigned yet. The paperwork never got started because this case took priority and that was a detail you needed to sort out right away.
âDonât go.â Spencer pleads when you take your first step.
Was it a request to sit back down or to stay with the BAU? You didnât bother to clarify, he had no right to ask for either.Â
You let out a deep, exasperated sigh as you lie curled up in your warm sheet, scowling at the floor beneath you. It seemed that the universe (your friends) had it out to delay your departure as much as possible. Itâs been four days since your return from Anchorage and youâve been stuck in your apartment since Hotch dropped you off here. Heâs ordered mandatory time off for your recovery, meaning the paperwork has to wait.Â
You could be using this time in a more productive manner. You could be searching for a new job. And a new place to live. You should be trying to figure out where this new place would be. You never actually thought that far ahead. In your haste to run away, you forgot to plan your next steps. Youâve convinced yourself that you canât do any of it until the forms are filled out.Â
The âuniverseâ isnât the only thing delaying you.Â
If you really wanted to, you could have everything emailed to you. You can have it done online, but there are two major problems. The first is pretty straight forward; youâre not ready to leave. You know that this is the best course of action for everybody, but your brain and your heart are at an impasse. Youâve dedicated years to this job because you love this job. Unfortunately, you love Spencer more, which means that staying is going to drive you to hate your job.Â
The other reason is slightly more nuanced and you donât want to think about it, opting to let your impasse be the reason for your lack of motivation to do anything other than bed rotting. Itâs not as bad as it seems, itâs more self care than anything. Your bodyâs telling you it needs to rest and youâre simply obliging. Plus, it couldnât be that serious if you still had bursts when you had to keep up appearances. You have to be okay if youâre able to force yourself to open the front door for your coworkers when they come to check on you. You really werenât that miserable if you managed to smile and laugh for their short visits.Â
And itâs not like youâre truly rotting. You showered quite often, you actually just had your second one today. You were definitely okay if you could manage to keep up with hygiene. Itâs not excessive, you need to scrub the purple away. You know thatâs not how it works, but you canât stand to look at the parts of your neck where his hands were wrapped around. If you close your eyes for long enough you can still feel him squeezing untilâ
Youâre okay.
No, youâre irritated. The incessant knocking on your front door wonât stop no matter how much you ignore it. You were relieved when evening came. It meant that normal visiting hours were over and you could rest today. If it wasnât any of your usual visitors then it had to be stranger. The thought made you uneasy, you hesitated to answer it at all.Â
You canât live in fear all the time.Â
The door eventually opens and Spencer sees you for the first time in days. He actually tried to check on you earlier, but Penelope insisted everybody stick to her roster so you donât get overwhelmed. The circles under your eyes were almost as dark as his, you hadnât been getting much sleep. The swelling around your throat was almost all gone, but the bruising wasnât healing like he expected it to.Â
âSpencerâŠwhat are you doing here?â Your voice is hoarse.Â
âI brought take out.â He gently dangles a bag of food in front of him, his voice high, but quiet.Â
You can practically smell the contents of the bag, nostalgia hitting you like a ton of bricks. It was your favourite thing to order on the days heâd come over for movie nights. Before Spencer showed you a side of him you didnât know existed. It felt like a taunt, like he was twisting the metaphorical knife he plunged in your heart. It made you sick.
âI already ate.â You lie, mustering a dull smile on your face.
Spencer swallows and bites the inside of his cheek, not taking his eyes off you. Trying to think of the best way to call you out without causing you to shun him.Â
âWe can do something else until youâre hungry again.â He gives a tight lipped smile and raises his furrowed brows, like heâs pleading for you to accept his offer.
âI donât think Iâll be hungry anytime soon.â You awkwardly laughâ well itâs close to a laugh if not for your strained vocal chords.Â
âCan I come in anyway? We can put on a movie.â Heâs using the voice he used to when trying to comfort you or convince you of something. Soft, low, steady. Itâs a stark contrast to the voice youâve been hearing for the last ten days.Â
Please donât come back here. Itâs hard enough at work, I donât want to see your face in my personal time too.
Tears threaten the composure youâre working so hard to maintain.
âWhy are you really here?â You sigh, unable to stick with the pleasantries.Â
âI told you.â He emphasises the bag of food in his hands again. âTake out. Maybe a movieââ
âCut the shit.â You assert, harshly. âYou can tell Penelope that you came to see me so she gets off your back, but please stop pretending like you care.â
âThatâsâŠis that why you think Iâm here?â His shoulders drop.
âIsnât it?â You bite, your door now wide open as you lean against it for support. Your legs are aching to curl into your chest again.Â
âNo.â His reply is short and clear, leaving no room for misinterpretation. âIâm here because I want to be here.â
âWhy? Thereâs nothing in it for you.â You scoff, blinking from confusion. âUnlessâŠis this some sick game? Seeing me like thisâ knowing that Iâmâ are you trying to gloat?â
âGloat?â He repeats in almost a whisper, the hurt in his voice evident.
âRelish, rejoice, rub it in, I donât know. Youâre the walking thesaurus.â
He can tell from your lax posture that you're amused. Your back is against your door, hands behind your back and youâre leaning forward a bit as you stare at the ground. Not caring that your words cut deep.
Is this how low you think he is?
âWhy would I be enjoying this?â His hopeful smile drops entirely as he tries to understand you.Â
âCall it epicaricacy.â You shrug.Â
âEpicaricacy?â He mumbles in a whispered tone, like heâs trying to process what you said.
Deriving pleasure from the misfortune of others.
Your eyes roll from how slow heâs acting and you have to hold yourself back from repeating the definition out loud.
âDo you honestly think I enjoy seeing you like this?â The change in pitch stings a bit.Â
âNo, I donât think you like seeing me at all.â You half smirk up at him, sadness evident in your eyes. âWhich brings us back toâŠwhy are you here Doc?â
âThatâs not true.â He cringes, ignoring the second part.
âNot true?â You wiggle your brows sarcastically.Â
âNot true.â He reaffirms, sighing deeply. âI didnât mean it. Iâm sorry.âÂ
âYouâre sorry.â You scoff again, shaking your head.
âI know that Iâve been unreasonableââ
âUnreasonable?â The tip of your tongue rolls against the back of your teeth, bewildered at his sheer audacity.Â
âA dick! Iâve been a dick.â He corrects himself, desperate to have you hear him out.Â
You tighten your jaw, inhaling lightly through your nose and your brows are raised as high as they can go.Â
âI was hurt. Okay? I wash lashing out, but, Iââ He takes a deep breath to stop himself, wanting to get to the point. âI know that Iâve been acting otherwise but, I care about you. And when I found you back thereâŠI justâŠI know what youâre going through, even if you wonât admit it. I donât want you to go through it alone.â
Your expression softens as he speaks. Of course he knows. He knows you better than anyone. For a moment you consider allowing yourself to break down in his arms, like you would have once. Itâs jarring, Spencer reverting to his former self after he saved your life. The comfort swiftly bubbles into anger. All your attempts for reconciliation were met with so much hostility before. It took you almost dying for him to care. It feels too little too late. The only thing you can think of as he stands next to you is all the ways he can further hurt you if you let him. You push off your door and stand straight, giggling bitterly.Â
âSpencer, go home.â You say with the same bitterness.Â
âPleaseââ
âGo home! I donât want your pity!â You yell. It feels alleviating. âDo you honestly think that anything changes just because you saved my life? Do you think it erases everything thatâs happened in the past few months? Because it doesnât! Things canât go back to how they were simply because you feel bad that I almost died. Itâs not a flip you can switch. You donât just get to start caring!âÂ
You're heaving and he can only stare at the ground. He knows youâre right, except for the one crucial error in your speech.Â
âI never stopped caring.â He mumbles.
This fucking idiot.
Enraged, sad, frustrated, confused; all emotions youâve been suppressing that are now fighting to show at the same time. You take a step closer to him and he meets your eyes again. You can see that heâs holding back tears, same as you. It fuels you in a twisted way. You have an opportunity to hurt him the way he hurt you and you donât let it go to waste.
âDonât come back here. Itâs hard enough at work to see your face at work, I donât want to see it in my personal time too.âÂ
You canât stay to see the effects of his words thrown back at his face, your heartâs threatening to burst from how fast itâs racing. His jaw locks from how tense he is. He knows exactly why you said it, but itâs still hard to hear. You turn around and rush into your apartment, shutting the door on his face, leaving him standing there. You donât make it too far inside, collapsing on the wooden floor with a choked sob.Â
That didnât make you feel as good as you thought it would. You hoped that maybe if you could make him feel at least a fraction of youâre feeling, youâd hurt less. It was more than just getting back at him for everything heâs done. You were unknowingly trying to punish him for what Archie Carter did too. It didnât make you hurt any less, but at least you felt less alone in your hurt.Â
He didnât come back for the rest of your time off. Everybody continued to follow the roster, showing up on their days and bringing you âget well soonâ goodies. Penelope even invited herself over for a night's stay once. You didnât have the heart to say no, but you found yourself counting the hours until youâd be alone again, free to wallow. The only respite you got for the next week was on Spencerâs days. You could expect to be left mostly alone, only a bag of take out accompanied by an eerily fitting quote sitting outside your door.Â
You hate to admit that those were your favourite days. You had a chance to breathe and he somehow knew exactly what you needed to hear. You gave the food away in protest and the quote would go straight in the bin (once you read it). One final psych evaluation later you were cleared to come back. Not that you needed one since you didnât plan to stay for long. It was really just a formality. By the time you returned only a few faded bruises remained, easy enough to cover with concealer.Â
âYouâre back! Ooh, itâs so good to see you!â Garcia was the first with a warm greeting and a tight hug. You reciprocated to the best of your ability.Â
âGood to have you back, Pretty Girl.â Derekâs second, walking you through the bullpen as you make your way to Hotchâs office.
âEnjoy it while you can.â You giggle in reply. âIs Hotch in yet?â
âI see someone canât wait to leave us.â Emily jokes, feigning a hurt look. You roll your eyes.
âYeah, heâs expecting you.â JJ laughs, slapping Emilyâs arm playfully.Â
âThanks JJ!â You smile and they all watch you disappear behind the door.Â
âSo itâs official? Sheâs really leaving?â JJ questions through a half-hearted smile.Â
âI asked Rossi and he said that Hotch is gonna ask her to stay until we find a replacement.â Emily replies, still eyeing the door.Â
âHow did you get Rossi to admit that?â JJ turns to the raven head, questioningly, and Emily smiles coyly giving no response.Â
âAm I the only one who thinks this whole thing would end once they make up? I mean come on, we all know sheâs leaving because of him, right?â Morgan looks at Spencer, whoâs nose deep in a file at his desk.Â
âYeah, but we canât help if they refuse to talk to us about it.â Emily sighs, hanging her head back.Â
The three dive deeper into their discussion and youâre none the wiser from inside the cream-coloured walls of Hotchâs office. As per protocol, heâs just finished informing you of whatâs next and youâre kind enough to accept his request to stay until they find a replacement. You definitely said yes because you want to make the teamâs transition easier, not for any self indulgent reasons such as you not being ready to leave.Â
âJust return this to me once youâve filled it out.â He instructs as he hands you a file containing your resignation forms.Â
âThanks Hotch.â You smile, grabbing the file.Â
You begin heading towards the door when he stops you by your name.Â
âI understand that youâre set on this decision, but I am sad to see you go.â Itâs insane how many emotions this man can get across while maintaining a blank expression. âHowever, if you change your mind at any point, let me know.âÂ
âThanks Hotch.â You playfully scoff, appreciating that even he has to try at least once.Â
If one more person tries though, you might scream. It wasnât easy, pretending that you werenât crumbling inside. The extra pressure doesnât make it any easier. You leave his office, closing the door behind you and approach your desk. The resignation forms are put aside for later as you still have to finish your case report from Anchorage. Part of you wanted to put it off until the last minute, the other part wanted to get it over and done with as soon as possible.Â
âCoffee?â Penelope chirps, holding out a mug filled with the hot beverage.Â
âThanks Pen.â You smile up at her, taking it out of her hands.Â
âNo problem.â She smirks mischievously and trots off.Â
A strange lady, but your strange lady.
Upon your first sip you almost choke it out. It was perfect. Exactly to your liking. Which would be a good thing, except only one person knows exactly how you like it. Back when you first joined, you learned how popular coffee was with all the employees. You felt out of place because you werenât a massive fan of the drink and you avoided too much sugar because it made you feel sick. You soon discovered that you liked it a lot more with honey instead. It was a weird preference, but it worked for you, making it sweet without overpowering your senses like sugar did.Â
You never declined a cup when offered by your colleagues, not wanting to dishearten them. It was Spencer who caught you sneaking honey into your cup when you thought no one was paying attention. He never mentioned anything to you, but the next time he returned with a cup to offer, you couldnât help but the smile that adorned your face for the rest of the day. It was why you dedicated yourself to morning breakfast runs for him, memorising his coffee order as a silent thank you. Neither of you ever talked about it.Â
You spin your seat around to find Spencer engaged in conversation with Rossi. You consider walking past him and dumping the beverage in the sink to make a point, but it was a welcome energiser for the dreadful task at hand. Plus you arenât wasteful. You spin back around and decide to accept it just this once.Â
When heâs sure youâre no longer looking he sets his sights back on you. A small smile forms across his lips when he sees you drink the coffee. He honestly expected you to throw it away. He feared that if he was the one to deliver the mug, youâd throw it on him. It was why he convinced Garcia to do it, bribing her by promising to buy a round of drinks on the next night out.Â
âKid, are you even listening?â Rossi scolds in an incredulous way.Â
As the hours pass, your frustration grows. You couldnât get yourself to write the details of the case. Your mind refused to think about it. You had hoped that taking breaks would make it easier, but everytime you returned to the page your head went blank.
âNeed some help?â Spencer asks, spawning next to you.
âChrist, Reid!â You blurt, startled. âI thought I told you to stop doing that.âÂ
âSorry.â He chuckles as if on cue.Â
You glare at him expectantly. He doesnât say anything, glancing between you and the unfinished case file, waiting for an answer.Â
âNo thanks.â You keep it short, hoping he takes the hint.Â
âLet me know if you do.â He doesnât.Â
âYou wouldnât even be the last person Iâd ask if I did.â You snark.Â
âBut you would eventually?â He stays calm, almost playful.Â
Smart ass.Â
You choose to ignore him, be the bigger person and all that. Even though he wasnât antagonising you.Â
âThanks for the coffee.â Itâs forceful gratitude. You werenât feeling grateful, but you still had manners.Â
âYouâre welcome.âÂ
âDonât make it again.âÂ
âI will not.â He grins and walks away to his desk.Â
You act like you donât know heâs watching you work. Looking up often to find you stuck on the same page. Even if he knew that you know, he didnât plan to stop. What he does know is that youâd never directly let him help you. He doesnât care. There werenât any new cases this week, so a ton of paperwork was to be expected. Itâs taunting enough to write down details of your own assault, the extra paperwork would only add more stress. Youâre too busy trying to push through the mental blockade to notice the sudden influx of files on his desk and the efflux on yours.Â
What you didnât miss was how the next cup of coffee you were offered was just as perfect as the one from before.Â
âI thought I told you to stop with the coffee, Reid.â You lightly slam the paper cup on Spencerâs desk.Â
He leans back in his seat and chews on his lip with an entertained smirk.Â
âAnd I did. Thatâs not from me.â Heâs earnest with his response.
âOh, so JJ just happens to know my coffee preferences all of a sudden?â You sarcastically retort, crossing your arms.
âNo.â He crosses his fingers across his lap. âI told her how you like your coffee when she said she was going on a coffee run.â
âAnd why did you do that?â You play along, unenthusiastically.Â
âBecause you told me to stop doing it.â He states in the most casual way possible.Â
This was getting you nowhere. It was naive to think heâd let you spend your last few weeks here peacefully. Scratch thatâ he was being peaceful. Too peaceful. A new tactic to get under your skin?
âStop. It.â The delivery of your words is slow and emphasised.Â
âStop doing exactly what youâve told me to?â
You bite your tongue and glare at him. His face, shoulders, arms, everything, is relaxed. You canât even argue with him. You take a moment to consider how bad it would be if you bashed his head in with the back of your gun. Then you take another to critique how easy it is to pass the psych evals. They should really think about the consequences of using questions the BAU wrote on actual BAU agents.Â
After that day you went back to ignoring him. Any time coffee was offered youâd decline altogether. If he attempted to try and talk to you, youâd respond with yes or no for the sake of professionalism. This didnât deter Spencer though. He gave you your space but kept a close eye on you, continuing to try and ease your burdens from afar. Exactly how he used to.Â
This only lasted until the next case came in. Specifically until you were back out on the field, where he perceived you to be in high amounts of danger. You tolerated it because it gave you comfort, not that youâd ever tell him. Having Spencer by your side made it easier to deal with the reality that thereâs little you can do if another incident like Anchorage occurred.Â
Plus focusing your energy on ignoring him kept the flashbacks away. Or it did, until the take down. You once again found yourself in danger from an unsub, only this time the situation was controlled. All guns were pointed at the killer, except for the one that was pointed at you. The plan was simple: you talk down the unsub, take him back to the station and talk him into exposing his partner.Â
Everything was going according to plan, until Spencer realised that one of the cops in the room was his partner and he was about to shoot you. Nobody understood what happened before the situation calmed down. Spencer had fired the first shot towards the dirty cop and immediately tackled you to the ground, shielding you from the hail of bullets that followed after. All you remember clearly is freezing up, clinging to the man on top of you. One moment you were screaming out, trying to make sure that he was okay and the next you were back in the alley behind the bar, fighting for your life.Â
You didnât comprehend anything until the panic attack subsided but Spencer was fine. His vest caught the bullets. Both unsubs were dead. Rossi and Prentiss came to the realisation the same time as Spencer and were quick to react. And you werenât in the alley. You were in Spencerâs arms as he led you away from the scene when it was safe.Â
When you snapped out of it the medics had cleared him of any injuries. He tried to approach you during your check up, but you shoved him away, unable to even look at him. The only thing you remember clearly is Hotch sending you all back to your hotel rooms before tomorrowâs flight back. You should be asleep right now, if not from the exhaustion of todayâs events alone, then from how long you spent reassuring everybody that you were okay.Â
You couldnât sleep. Not when so many thoughts were occupying your headspace. This is the second time Spencerâs saved your life, in the span of roughly a month. The first time heâs put his life in direct danger to save yours. Had it not been for his vest he would be dead. The more you linger on it, the angrier youâd become. You were also wearing a vest, you wouldâve been fine. What he did was unnecessary and reckless.Â
What if the bullet missed the vest? Entered through the side? What was he thinking?
You were mentally fighting the urge to barge into his room and yell at him for his stupidity, but you couldnât bring yourself to go to him. What happens to him is not your problem anymore. You arenât going to let your guard down just because heâs an idiot.
Spoilers: BAU! Reader, Reader almost dies, Reader and Spencer are pissing me off, bc theyâre so dumb, angst, hurt no comfort, Reader gets a little revenge.
AN - Before you comment ANYTHING, there is one more part. Itâll be posted a lot sooner than this one was. Writing this made me realise how limited the English language is. Thereâs only so many words to use and ways to write them. If either part sounds repetitive at times, itâs not my fault!!! Casual reminder: I am not Spencer Reid. I donât have an IQ of 187. Any facts I make him spew could very well be bull-shit and he only spews them for the purpose of the story. I also have no knowledge of how the FBI works and lack a ton of common sense. A lot of things were made up for the purpose of this story.
If you comment you garner good karma for yourself and that could lead to you meeting MGG someday (Iâm not liable if this never happens), think about that...Â
Thank you for reading!

Melissa hated her feelings.Â
She buried them in a chest in the 5th grade (along with her ability to express them). Other peoples' feelings on the other hand was her forte. She could process, decipher and regurgitate other peoples emotions effortlessly. This gift couldâve taken her through college, all the way to a degree in psychology. Distinguished Dr. Jefferson with a PhD and a cozy office and impressive roster of high-profile, weallthy clients was a shiny idea. Fate would have a different hand for Melissa her talents were exhausted on mediating family fights, friend group drama, and charming her way out of confronting her own feelings.Â
âFeelings.â Even saying it out loud to herself seemed silly. Something reserved for âcry babiesâ and water signs. Typical Sunday nights started tame, reading or writing fan-fiction and drinking cranapple juice. And then like clock work her father would yell her name,Â
âMELISSA!!!â Emotionless, sheâd get up dust off her Winnie the Pooh shorts and make her way downstairs. On the long walk down the hall to the stairs leading to the living room brawl, sheâd go through her check list:Â
1.) Donât cry. Â
 2.) Stay neutral; Deescalate
3.)Donât take anything personal. This isnât about you
She padded down the carpeted stairs in her old soft socks to see her mother tightlipped and tear streaked thinking,Â
âshe broke rule number 1â. Her father, Michael was proud and angry, his big belly filled with self righteousness. She knew he would be unyielding in his resolve and at this point her only option was to deescalate.
âRule number 2â. Then her sister the water sign and calamity for the evening sat on the floor nearly fetal, face red and raw with emotion.Â
âIts not your faultâ Melissa wanted to say âYou just didnât follow the rules⊠youâre loved.â But she couldnât say that because sheâd be breaking rule number 3. It wasnât about how Melissa felt. Even though she felt like screaming,
âVANESSA, YOU DIDNâT DO ANYTHING WRONG. DADâYOU JUST HAVE PENT UP ANGER BECAUSE YOU GREW UP IN THE HOOD OF DETROIT AS A BLACK MAN IN THE 60s AND 70s. YOU NEED A HEALTHY OUTLET LIKE.. I DONT KNOW⊠THERAPY?!?!?! THIS IS A WASTE OF ALL OF OUR TIME. I LITERALLY JUST WROTE THE BEST SAILOR SATURN x CHIBI USA FANFICTION EVER AND THIS IS KILLING MY VIBE!â
Instead, she decide to hear every one out. She decided to help. To calm her dragon of a father down. To be a translator for her emotional sister. To not take it personal. To stay neutral. To not cry.Â
9 years later, at her fathers funeral she still never broke the rules. She played her flute and spoke at his memorial. She was present for her mother because it wasnât about her. When other peoples' emotions bubbled up she stayed neutral. She sat through both services and she did not cry. It wasnât until she excused herself to make a phone call outside did she collapse onto the stairs of the funeral home and weep alone in the cold Detroit snow.Â
Itâs okay to break the rules sometimes, she reminded herself. As long as no one else sees it.
Traumas began to compact on Melissa, as they do. Humans tend to collect traumas like pebbles on a long hike. We toss them into our backpacks and keep moving forward. Some hikers would falter, but Melissa was built for this. Sheâd carried the stones of her familyâs traumas uphill for years. She was strong.Â
When men began to befriend and reject her, saying âyouâre too good for meâ but not too good to make them feel good. She carried that.Â
When childhood friends began to cut off the strings of her heart, saying âWe canât be friends anymoreâ. She carried that.
When her family separated like dandelion seeds, it seemed like theyâd never be together again. Melissa slept on so many couches, floors and car seats sometimes she didnât know if sheâd see them again.Â
She carried that.Â
Dying was never an option though sometimes she didnât mind the thought of it. Peace and warmth were two things sheâd desperately yearned and hadnât felt fully since the womb. Then one night in the pitch black of the hot, sweaty, roach-infested studio in southeast Houston she slept in she wondered:
âWhy canât I break the rules?â Sheâd seen everyone else in her life break them like popsicle sticks. And she didnât just want to break the rules, she wanted to break them boldly and loudly and annoyingly and honestly and sloppily like every one else gets to do. It was in that moment, tucked in a thin jacket inside of an 8-foot high instrument cubby in the inky darknessâit hit her.Â
âIs my suffering for a high purpose? Or is my suffering trying to kill me?âÂ
She cried.Â
She escalated.Â
She took it personal.Â
But it wasnât enough. She wanted to scream in a microphone in a sea of shadowy faces. She drank whiskey and wove her pain into rock music.Â
âMusic is my boyfriendâ she declared. The only man that kept his baggage to hisself. And it healed her. It gave her voice reason and purpose.Â
The pebble-laden hike became lighter with time. The incline eventually evened out to flat, beautiful landscapes where the breeze finally met her back. She knew it wasnât gonna be easy or sunshine but even the rain cleansed her and it was beautiful too.Â
Somewhere in the rain she decided rules were meant to be built and broken. Like trust and love and friendships and families. Because every thing deserves the opportunity to change and grow.Â
So... She broke rule number 1 on stage while singing a beautiful song. Dr. Jefferson (PhD) screamed for her to stop but she didnât listen and the tears flowed like rivers of emotion down her cheeks.Â
Rule number 2Â was broken when she grew older and saw the injustices of the world. Marching with hundreds in protest she realized not everything needs to be pacified.Â
And one day when she finally fell in love, she broke rule number 3. No matter how much training sheâd done she couldn't help but take every thing her lover said and did personal. But it was ok. Because in all her resistance she realized breaking rules was her power.Â
Melissa began to fall for her feelings. Her feelings gave life purpose. They werenât always logical, as feelings seldom are. They were sloppy and embarrassing and rude and so fucking uncomfortable. But they were hers. And they were real. And when she sat alone sipping wine, staring at the moonâŠThey were the only ones still by her side. Ready to break the rules for her because they loved her.Â
And she finally loved them back.Â

take me home, country road
[ao3]
prompt: 1800s price/readerâŠ. reader flees to his town where Price is the sheriff after a murder in her previous town only to be mistaken for the mail order bride that Price just sent for âŠ.and heâs not interested in hearing any of her excuses when she tells him that heâs got the wrong girl (part 3) part 1, part 2
-
âNeglecting your husband already?â he asks when you pull away from the arm curling around your waist. Itâd migrated there from your back during the walk away from the courthouse.Â
âYou know Iâm notâIâm not some horse that you can justâŠbreak in,â you seethe, glaring up at Price. Your arms are crossed tight over your chest, putting the slightest boundary between you and him. Itâs more of a mental boundary than anything, a self-soothing gesture; you know it hardly even registers to him because the man still looks down at you with that unimpressed expression, like dealing with a particularly vexing child.Â
âI hadnât noticed,â he says dryly, looking you up and down. Itâs a scorching, hungry look and it makes you shift from foot to foot.Â
The two of you stand outside the front door of his house, the front door still shut tight. You put up a fuss on the walk from town as the reality of your situation finally sunk in, squirming in his hold until he threatened to just load you over his shoulder and carry you off. His tone leaves little for you to doubt. Nothing about him brooks skepticism; until the end of time, youâll look at John Price and think, this is a man of action. This is a man that will move heaven and earth.Â
You clam up after that, lips pursed shut though turned down at the corners.Â
Itâs a bigger house than you mightâve expected for a single man, but perhaps it was built with a wife and children in mind. The thought makes you swallow. A wooden two-story thing with a porch out front and an adjacent stable for his two horses with a pen around back. Speckled Appaloosas that look up at the sound of his boots and keys, attentive for all of a few seconds before losing interest.Â
You know without asking that Price must have built this house with his own two hands. Itâs not shoddy by any means, but his house has that indefinable quality that some places have. Organic. Homegrown, almost. Itâs hard to put up against the houses of your youth, but then again, you grew up in the cramped quarters of the city, apartments thick with the scent of sewage on bad days and dust on the good. The two are hardly comparable. Itâs even harder to put up against the estates that youâve spent the better part of the last few years cleaning and learning inside out, but at least his house doesnât make your stomach turn at the sight.Â
Thereâs a moment when you first turn to him where you wonder if heâll look for approval in your face, some sign to set him at ease, but when you meet his gaze, itâs steady and impenetrable. Quietly self-assured. Itâs incongruent with the machismo you were raised around, the constant need to impress or transcend. It puts you on edge. It makes you almost feel like baring your teeth.
Your comment had come from seeing the horses and the house and the porch with the two rocking chairs, your hackles raising every step closer. Price built his house big enough for children because he anticipated a baby in his future. Children heâd have with his wife, which, though a fuzzy memory as far as memories go, you quietly stepped into the role of not half an hour ago.Â
Youâve thought about it before. Motherhood; marriage, domestic living, settling down with a man to start a family. The reality of your life has always made it seem like a problem for the future. Years chipping away like flakes of faded paint off the walls of your bedroom, still living with your aunt and uncle well into adulthood, trying desperately to scrimp and save and stay afloat. Disappointing but not surprising that youâd never been considered the marriable sort, not with scrubbing other people's toilets for a living.Â
And now look at you, ring on your finger and whisked home to be bedded. A shiver roles down your spine at the thought and you scowl at Price instead of sinking into the strange thrill.Â
When he wraps a hand around your wrist to pull you towards him (his fingers easily overlapping; another thrill), you snap.
âThat is quite enough with all the touching!âÂ
His eyes narrow. âIâll have more than my hands on you by the end of the night.â
A more proper woman would gasp. You barely hold yours back.Â
You know in the back of your mind that youâve already lost any semblance of an upper hand in this situation. It has long spiraled out of your control. His ring sits on your finger all nice and pretty, and though you signed your marriage license under a different nameâyour own rather than the name of his actual intendedâthat Price hadnât even bothered confirming, you are, for all intents and purposes, his to touch as he pleases.Â
âIâmââ your eyes dart around, the urge to bolt a sharp and sudden compulsion lodged in your chest, ââI know I said yes, but Iâthereâs always the possibility of an a-annulment if we donâtâŠifâŠâ
You flinch, startled, when he pulls you into his chest only to cup your face again. He has big hands with callused fingers, rough against your skin. Up close, you can see the way his beard is cropped closer than his mustache and mutton chops. It gives him a grim air, almost somber until you catch his eyes staring down at you with an affection that feels unearned, meant for someone else.Â
âDeep breaths, darling, thereâs nothing to fret about just yet. Youâll work yourself into a state like this,â he murmurs, dropping his head to sip a kiss from your lips again.Â
Youâve been in a state since the moment you walked into the sheriffâs office and laid eyes on this man. Turned around and knocked sideways, like youâve walked into a storybook without noticing. If only it hadnât all been so sudden, you mightâve been able to approach the situation with a clearer head. You mightâve been able to think up some other way out of it beyond giving Price a fake name and waiting anxiously for your true identity to be painstakingly drawn out over the course of a week.Â
âDonât know why you keep working yourself up,â Price says softly, then slots your lips together for another tender kiss. âFigured you might be a little skittish, butâŠâm gonna be such a good husband for you, honey. Not gonna want for nothing.â
His slow kisses drag out longer than back in the courthouse, languorous and decadent. As if he has all the time in the world now. In a way, he does, now that heâs helped collect your belongings from the inn and brought you home. When you think of pulling away, the hand wrapped around your wrist lets go and slides to your back, pulling you flush against his chest. Your breasts flatten against his chest, pulse skittering like mad when you feel the hardest of his chest against yours and the muscle holding you in place.Â
You canât help the whimper that escapes your lips when the hand on your cheek slides to the nape of your neck and grips, holding you in place. The kiss deepens, the heat on your cheeks feeling palpably hot, vision swimming until your eyes have no choice but to flutter shut. Your suitcase sits forgotten somewhere in the dirt, toppled over onto its side. You pant low, hot breaths into his mouth when he breaks the kiss, letting his lips just hover over yours.
âThere we go, darlinâ,â Price mumbles against your mouth, sliding the hand on your low back down to grip the plump flesh of your ass through your dress, lips twitching when you make a broken, affronted sound. âIsnâ that better? Not thinkinâ so hard?â
You canât think at all, in truth. When he kisses you again, your thoughts evaporate up into the clouds, the tongue licking into your mouth dispelling any ideas or notions you mightâve had. It disappears into the heat and lust and the fingers digging into your backside, groping at the flesh there without shame or compunction. You go with him when he clutches you closer, gasping again into his mouth when you feel something hard press against your low belly. He grunts when you twitch against it.Â
âJohnâJohnââ you gasp, pulling your mouth away and whimpering when he chases after you, letting him steal another wet, slick kiss before your trembling hands clutch at the fabric of his shirt. âEnoughâitâs notâitâs not properââ
âNo prying eyes around here,â he grunts. ââSides, whoâs going to tell a man he canât kiss his own wife?â
Trembling all the harder at his words, you dig your nails into his shirt sleeves and hope you pinch the skin underneath. All twisted up inside. The ring on your finger glimmers when it catches the light, brighter even than the sun this close to your face. When Price feels your nails dig into his arms, he groans, fingers pressing harder into your bottom and making you squeak. All the pent up lust finally trickling out of him and into you.Â
âCâmon, honey, letâs get you inside.â He finally lets you go after giving your bottom lip one last wet suck, pulling it into his mouth while his half-lidded eyes stare into yours. Itâs somehow more intimate than kissing.Â
Youâre still reeling when he turns around to pick your suitcase off the ground, certain that your knees will give way and send you tumbling as well. Every point of contact on your body sizzles, aches. You watch from outside of yourself as he turns back to you, suitcase in his hand now, eyes still dark and fixed on you. Hungry. Your eyes widen when they flit down to find a thick bulge at the crotch of his pants.Â
Like a cold bucket of water has been dumped over your head, you hiss and back up three steps when he takes a step towards you. âOh no, you donât take one step closer! I wonât have anything to do withâwith that!â
You must look like some feral barn cat, back all puffed up, teeth bared to the man trying to coax you towards him. Price must see it too because he grins, amused. âStill spittinâ mad, huh? Felt those claws in me before, darlinââŠgonna love feeling them with nothing between us.â
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?âÂ
Price doesnât bother clearing anything up, but you intuit it the second he takes another step in your direction, whirling around and sprinting towards the house. It feels counterproductive to seek shelter in the manâs house, but dusty plains stretch out in every direction apart from back into town, where you know not a soul will lift a finger to help you. His house is the only shelter youâre going to get.
You hurry up the porch stairs, tearing open the door before glancing over your shoulder to find Price not far behind. He advances on you at a walking pace, but each stride of his long legs matches two of yours, making you shriek and scurry up the staircase. You dart for the first open door you see, slamming it shut behind you and leaning your whole weight against it. Glancing down, you perk up at the sight of a lock on the door before flipping it.
Itâs not long before the sound of boots clomping up the staircase meets your ears, headed straight in your direction. You shake when you hear him pause right outside the door, then startle when he tries the knob.Â
âYou gonna let me in, darling?â Price asks, grin in his voice. Even raps his knuckle against the door for good measure.
âNo,â you snap.Â
âNot even for your things? Got your suitcase right here.â You hear him set it down, a little clunk against the wood floor.Â
âI can manage like this. Iâve slept in my dress before.â
He pauses. âHave you?â
You tilt your chin up proudly despite the door blocking his view. âYes, and I donât mind doing it again. You can just stay on the other side of that door until youâŠuntil you put that thing away.â
âCanât do much about that thing, darling; itâs sort of grown on me over the years anyway,â Price chuckles. âWell, not much I can do with it behind this door. Iâll go tend the horses âtill suppertime comes âround and then come back to tend to you.â
âLicentiousâŠreprobate,â you hiss through the door.Â
He laughs, the sound deep in his throat. Your stomach flips.Â
The stairs creak under the weight of his boots as he descends back downstairs. You wait until you hear the front door open and shut behind him, until the house is completely quiet save for the blood pumping in your ears before you hastily unlock the door and dart a hand out just to pull your suitcase in. You shut and lock the door as soon as it passes the threshold.Â
It takes a while to settle your nerves and for the trembling to subside. In the meantime, you sit on your bottom at the foot of the door, with your back still pressed firmly to the wood, and take stock. Thereâs a bed in the room, one you hadnât noticed in your mad scramble to lock yourself in. A bigger bed than the one youâd slept on back at the inn, but just as sparse, with gray flannel sheets and a blue quilt folded and draped over the end of the bed.Â
The rest of the furniture in the roomâtwo end tables, a chest of drawers, a desk, and two chairs situated in the corner of the roomâappears so consistent in its design that you have to wonder if Price made them by hand as well. Hardly a reason to question it. You think to yourself that youâll have to ask him how he finds the time only to quickly shake that thought away. Canât be getting too chummy, certainly not if you donât expect to be around in a monthâs time. Hopefully less than that.Â
You chew on your lip at the thought of fleeing in the night.
It trickles into your thoughts while you open your suitcase on the bed and riffle around for your nightwear. Price will likely keep you under lock and key for at least the first week of your marriage, giving you little opportunity to take off any time soon. If only youâd held your tongue and played the demure bride, he mightâve had some cause to trust you. Certainly not now, after your most recent display.Â
Your own stupid fault, as usual. Itâs not the first time your temper has gotten the better of you. Youâve faced worse consequences for it.Â
Outside the window on the far end of the room, a horse whinnies. You pause, remembering that Price hadnât gone very far. When you glance out curiously, you see him letting the horses into the pen, giving one a good rub down the bridge of its nose. The horses seem to melt under his touch.Â
Itâs strange watching him from far away. From a distance, itâs hard to reconcile him with the man that bent you over his desk not an hour ago and tanned your bottom. You cringe at the memory. Itâs not that Price doesnât seem like a man that would take his wife over his knee if he saw fit to do so, but you still canât imagine yourself as that woman. When you think about it, it feels like a play, something you saw happen to someone else. Not you wailing and squirming like a cat in heat.Â
As if feeling your stare, he glances up at the window and winks when he catches your eye. With a squeak, you leap away from the window, scurrying back over to the bed.Â
A couple hours pass in restless contemplation, practically biting your nails to the quick. Eyeing the windowsill like you still might go over there just to check on what Price is up to outside. You hear him come back into the house once or twice, tensing up at the sound of his boots, only to be left vaguely disappointed when you hear him leave and the screen door slam shut behind him.Â
You spend so long holed up in the bedroom that you miss lunch entirely. Below you, you hear Price puttering around downstairs in the kitchenâthe sound of a knife chopping vegetables and then the sizzle of meat on a pan. The hunger pangs nearly make you break, but youâve gone without food before.Â
Your heart skips a beat when you hear him ascend the staircase again and place something just outside of your door. He doesnât try coaxing you out this time, just heads back down the stairs and out the front door. Again, you ignore the pang of disappointment; ignore the urge to open the door and holler down the stairs for him to stay gone.Â
He leaves anyway.Â
Curiosity needles at you though, so you open the door up a crack when youâre sure youâre alone. Thereâs a plate at the foot of the door with vegetables and meat, slightly cooled but still fresh, the plate still warm. He mustâve known you wouldnât try coming downstairs and fixed you up a plate.Â
You eat in silence at the desk, bad mood ripening. Angry at yourself and everyone else. Even John. Especially John. The audacity of fixing you up a plate, of thinking of you in the first place. Irritated enough to stand boldly by the window this time, hand clutched in the curtain, tracking the movement of his shoulders and hips when he moves with the horses and fetches water from the well. You lose sight of him a couple times as he finishes up the dayâs chores around the house, but the flutter in your belly always settles when he comes back into view.Â
Itâs easy to let yourself admire him from afar, somehow less humiliating without his eyes on you. Heâs a solid man, body carved into its shape from the rough labor thatâs part and parcel of living out on the frontier. A wide back tapering down to lean, narrow hips and thick, muscled thighs hewn from lifting and pulling and all manner of physical work. You bite your lip when you remember what it felt like to cling to that back and dig your nails into his arms.Â
You give your head a shake. Itâs dangerous to let a thought like that latch on.Â
In the few hours between lunch and sunset, you occupy yourself by reading one of the books stowed away in your suitcase. Then get bored and refold your clothes. The horses bray when theyâre taken into the stables for the evening. The crickets out in the bushes in the yard chirp as the sun sets pink in the far distance. Itâs quieter out here in the plains than back in the city, you think, something you havenât yet had the time to appreciate.Â
When Price comes in for the night, youâre firm in your resolve to keep the door shut. If lunch at the door was just an attempt to butter you up, he has another thing coming. In a house this big, thereâs likely a guest room or somewhere else to sleepâa sofa or a sleeping bag tucked away under the stairs. Heâll just have to make do while you take the bedroom. Thereâll be no sharing a bed with the man that grabbed your backside like a piece of meat.Â
He doesnât come up the stairs right away. Like before, you hear him rustle up supper, spatula scraping against a pan and knife coming down on a chopping block again and again. Not enough time has passed since lunch for you to feel more than peckish. Youâre thankful for that when you hear him sit down to eat.Â
The knock at the door startles you. You hadnât heard him come up the stairs. âReady to talk now?â
You stare balefully at the door. âNo.â
âWe have to figure this out sometime, darling.â
âNo, we donât.â
âIâm sorry if I gave you a fright earlier, but, honey, thatâs how husbands kiss their wives. Nothing improper about it.â
âIâm not frightened, Iâm just notâwe donât need to do any of that,â you huff, embarrassed all over again. âYouâve hardly given me any time to even think. I didnât know you from Adam this morning and now weâre married.â
Price sighs, the sound muffled through the door. âWhat am I going to do with you, honey?â Itâs said to himself, a fond exasperation that puts you on edge all over again. He has no right to be amused with you, no right to be delighted and charmed by your ire.Â
âWell, you can sleep somewhere else for the time being. Iâd prefer the bed to myself.â
He lets out a low, dark laugh. âThereâs not a chance in hell that Iâm sleeping anywhere but with my wife from this point on. You oughta come to terms with that quick.â
âWell then, you can sleep out there because Iâm not unlocking the door!â
He lets out a mean sound, almost mocking. âYeah, âbout time I addressed that, huh?â
His words make you frown until you hear a floorboard creak as Price does something on the other side of the door. Then the doorknob jiggles. Horrified, you watch as the door unlocks and the knob turns, your husbandâs body filling out the door frame. Youâd forgotten how well he could fill one out. He almost has to duck to come inside, mused hair from working outside all day brushing against the top of the frame.Â
âAlways put a key on the top of the door, just in case,â he explains, pinching the little silver key between his thumb and forefinger before shutting the door. Your heart jumps when he locks it behind him. âReady to talk now, honey?â

Lift Me Off My Feet
Chapter 12: Finale
Masterlist
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8 - Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11 - Part 12
âYou are not listening!â You shout, frustrated with the man.
In the couple of weeks that you have known and lived with them, you never expected that you would end up arguing with them. Even less with Price.
âNo, Birdie. You are the one that needs to listen!â The man argued back.
âYou got me fired, John! What else do you want me to hear?â You ask, running your hands through your hair.Â
It finally set in, the reality that the idyllic life of living with the four of them without a worry was just an illusion. You were here because you were hiding, and they were here because they were hiding you.Â
âI didn't get you fired, Birdie. Your boss did.â Price says, crossing his arms.
âDon't get sassy with me! He told you that they needed to know if I could get back to work any soon or they would be forced to fire me and you told them to do so!â You shout again, feeling like Price is lying to your face. âWhy would you do that?!â
âBecause you hate that job!â He shouts back. âAnd you don't need to work!â
âYes, I do, Price! Yes, I do!â You say, a dry laugh leaving your throat. âLike everyone! I can't just live sponging off of you guys!â
âThat's not what's happening and you know it, birdie!â He exclaims. âDon't manipulate the situation into making it look like a bloody transaction!â
âI'm manipulating the situation?!â You ask, pointing to yourself.Â
âYes! You are making it look like we are paying you to stay with us, birdie!â He explains, moving his hands to his hips.
âOh, for god's sake, Price!â You exclaim, rubbing your face. âWhy don't you exaggerate it a bit more?! I don't even know why I'm arguing with you about my job!â
âNeither do I?! Because I think it is pretty much settled!â He says, walking away towards the kitchen.Â
âIT IS NOT SETTLE!â You scream, shocked by his response. âThe reason why I don't know why we are arguing is because I don't know who gave you the right to choose over me!â
That makes him turn around, looking at you like you grow a second head. âWell, excuse me. For believing I have a say in your life, I just assumed I could since we bloody love each other and all that!â
âDon't pull that shit on me, Price! This has nothing to do with love!â You say, crossing your arms. âI don't have a say on your work! So why should you have it on me!â
âIt's not the bloody same!â He says, rubbing his face.
âIt's not for you because it doesn't benefit you!â You scream, looking back when you hear the door open as Gaz, Soap and Ghost enter the house. The three of them having left the house not too long ago to buy breakfast.Â
âWhat's going on? We could hear the shouts from outside.â Gaz asks, entering first and looking between Price and you, seeing the wide cliff between the two of you.
âNothing!â Price barks, crossing his arms again.Â
You ignore the looks on everyone's face, instead walking to the door.Â
âWhere are you going now?!â Price asks, moving to be able to see you.
âOut! So I can fucking breathe without feeling I'm choking!â You say, opening the door after the boys closed it.Â
âDon't go far!â Price says, still caring under all his bad moodÂ
âI KNOW I CAN'T GO FAR!â You say, slamming the door on your way out.
You hate screaming, hate shouting, hate raising your voice and even more if it is at Price or any of the men inside. It's not their fault and screaming at each other is not the way to fix it. But you can't help it, tired of being pushed around at everyone's mercy without asking what's your choice.Â
Sitting down on the step right outside the house, not wanting or needing to go any further, you hide your face behind your hands, letting your palms get wet with your tears.Â
âHey, you alright?â A man's voice says, making you look up, to come face to face with an unfamiliar face.Â
You don't have time to answer, because something hits the back of your head and everything blends to black.
Price updates the boys once you are out, he tells them your ex-boss called, told him you needed to get back to work the next day or he would fire you, he tells them how he told him to go ahead since you couldn't go back to work jet, he tells them about how he wasn't able to tell you about the empty position at base that you could filled to work with them because you started screaming, he tells them about how he lost his cool and just screamed back instead of explaining.
He tells them everything, feeling like the worst person in the world for making you leave the house with tears on your face. It's Gaz the first one to stand up. âI'll check on her.â He mumbles, as he walks outside to an empty staircase. He walks down, checking both sides of the street only to find it just as empty.Â
An anxious feeling starts to brew on his stomach, entering back to the house with a worried expression on his face. âShe's gone.â He says almost casually, as if not voicing one of the biggest fears the men around him have had for the last month.
âWhat do you mean she's gone?â Soap asks. âShe must be around the block, she'll be back in a bit, mate.â
No one believes him, not even himself. You wouldn't have walked out of his sight like that, not without dragging them with you, not without a phone, not without telling them.Â
There is a beat of silence, each debating whether it is plausible that you simply left, all of them feeling that the most possible chance is that something happened to you.Â
âI'll check the car camera, it is parked right in front of the door.â Ghost says, taking his phone out to check it.Â
They all check the screen, seeing the door open and close. They see you sit down, body shaking as you cry, Price feeling his heart shrunk at the sight knowing it was his doing.Â
They then see the two men walking in front of you, how one of them takes advantage that you have your face covered to stand behind you, how the other calls your attention to look at your face, and how once he knows it's you he nods to the other man, who knocks you out hitting you with a bat at the back of your head.
The wave of all the different emotions hitting them at once keeps them in place for a second, paralyzed on their chair. Soap jumps first, talking about checking the cameras on the street, checking the cars, their licence place, anything.Â
But it doesn't reach Price's ears, the only thing he can hear is the voices in his head telling him that he has failed twice now. The first one he wasn't able to keep you close enough when you left in the middle of the night, and now he was the one that pushed you away.Â
You were just on the other side of the door a moment ago and now⊠now he didn't know where you were. All because he didn't explain himself and let his emotions take control of him.
âPrice!â It's Ghost's voice that wakes him up, standing beside the sergeants. âMove.â
That's all he says, and that's all Price needs.Â
They'll get you back, whatever it takes.Â
Two weeks.
That is what it takes them to finally find a trail.
That is what it takes Price to breathe again.
That's what it takes Simon to let be seen outside the office.
That's what it takes Soap to let himself be embraced by any of the others.
That's what it takes Gaz to stop baring his teeth to everyone.Â
They have a trail.Â
And god knows that's all they need.Â
What you need, is a doctor. A shower. A glass of water. A nap. Anything that is not forced or thrown at you.Â
Two weeks of torture.Â
Two weeks of just getting hurt, insulted, humiliated, all of it just for the purpose of causing you pain.Â
The henchmen of the man you used to say good morning to were the ones that have stolen you away.Â
The ones that have thrown you into an empty dark room.
The ones that have âinterrogatedâ you about who you worked for.Â
The ones that have âinterrogatedâ you about how much they paid you.Â
You didn't say a word, which usually resulted in a punch to the face or a kick to the ribs.Â
You want to believe that they will find you.Â
That they will take you back home.
That Price will forgive you for shouting at him.
Hell, if you die and the last thing you did was shout at him.
You'll live.
They'll find you.
Two weeks.
Of fighting with yourself.
The side that says you'll live.
And the side that tells you to give up already.
The second one usually wins.
Like today, when the man that enters the room every day walks up to you, limping and with a knife in his hand.Â
He yanks your hair, pulling you up on your feet and pressing the knife on your throat. âMake a sound and it'll be the last thing you do.â
He moves you into a chokehold, pushing you in front of him as he walks down the hall. There is shouting and the sound of guns inside the building.Â
The moment he sees the car where they push you in, the one they saw on the cameras; Price almost needs to pull Simon back from running inside the building.
This is it.
This is the headquarters they couldn't find for so long.Â
The headquarters where all the important information and the guns they have looked for so long are at.
The headquarters where everything that matters is.
The headquarters where they kept you at.Â
Price sends Ghost to the building on the other side of the road, not trusting the man in face to face with what they can find inside.Â
And he obliges, hating the rank differences.
They move in, clearing room after room.
No sign of you.
The move to the second floor.
You are not there.
More and more people that hit the ground when they found them.
You are still missing.Â
Until you see it.Â
The unmistakable blue cap on Gaz's head.
And you shout.
You shout louder than you shout at Price.
You shout louder than when Soap scared you hiding behind the door.Â
You shout louder than when you called for Ghost when you thought he fell on the shower but it was just the shampoo bottle.
You have never shouted at Gaz.
Until now.
And the moment you do you feel the blade dig into your skin, moving your hand between the knife and your neck.
The three of them turn to you, immediately updating Ghost and telling him to move.Â
The window behind you is almost like a target for a perfect shot.Â
But Ghost can't shoot.
Not when he can see your head.
Not when there is a possibility that he may hit you.Â
But he can when you move.
When you grab the blade, breaking the skin of your fingers, and you pull back just enough to squish yourself down.Â
You are still against his chest, the man still holding you. But Ghost can now see your head, lower than before. And the arms around you quickly go limp, falling forward taking you with him.Â
A ringing in your ear keeps you from Price's voice calling your name. Everything is dizzy for a moment, there is a warm sensation on your elbow and when you look back a red pool of blood is bleeding onto your clothes.
You liked that t-shirt.Â
You'll need to try with peroxide, see if you can take the stain out.Â
Your brain ignores the corpse lying next to you, but for some reason you can't stop looking at the blood on your elbow.
It isn't until Price cups your face, your grimey, bloody and sunken face. And you look up to him, his blue eyes.Â
And you let yourself cry.
After two weeks.
You cry.
So hard you can't see nor hear anything.Â
You cling onto Price, hiding your face on his neck, digging your nails on his back needing to feel him under your skin.Â
Apologies fly from one to the other.
For shouting, for pushing away, for failing to protect, for not shouting, for being taken away.
You feel two more pairs of arms around you, feeling the fourth person only when you start to leave the building.Â
Not much longer an ambulance arrives, finally taking you to safety.
The four men in the car right behind.Â
Recovery is just as slow.
No permanent physical damage.
But not all the wounds are on the skin.
Those heal quite fast.Â
And soon you are back on your feet.Â
On your scared, wobbly feet.
The boys are back around, always one of them close.
âI'm never leaving you out of my sight again.â Price says, cupping your face as he kisses your forehead. âI don't care if I sound like a madman.â
They make it easy to get back.
Price finally tells you about the job at base, which you gladly apply for.
Surprisingly you got it, and started working soon.
It was easy.
You got a better flat, easy to pay when four more people chime in for the bills.Â
You got a better job, with better pay and a better boss.
You got, not only one, but four lovers.Â
And you have all the time of your life to heal everything that's left.Â
You still wonder how you managed to get into your garage that night.Â
But now you're glad you did.
And with this, ladies and gentlemen.
Lift Me Off My Feet comes to an end â€ïž.

Part 1, Full day 1
âNo one told me that we have an adorable new housemate.â
The six sleepy men sitting around the dining table looked up as soon as Park Jimin walked entered the room, in his arms was a fluffy cat that was actively hissing at him. He cooed down at it, softly stroking the thick fur with his hand that was now sporting claw marks.
âWeâre already so close!â he announced with softness in his voice despite the repetitive kicks brought by the furry creature in his arm.
âI donât think you are liked very muchâŠâ Jungkook quietly commented, his doe eyes went even larger at the bleeding scratches on his skin. As if sensing an opportunity to escape, the cat suddenly wriggled free from Jimin's arms and darted across the room, landing squarely in Hoseok's lap.
âHi, my son! Did you have a good nightâs sleep?â he asked affectionately, reaching down to stroke the cat's fur.
âHyung has a secret son!â Jungkook whispered to Taehyung in a scandalous manner, clutching his nonexistent pearls. Taehyung, who looked like he lived and fought through three wars from his exhausted form and his sluggish movement only nodded at Jungkook.
âWhose cat is that? Is that yours, J-hope?â Jin asked, pointing at the cat with his mug. He didnât know that they now had a furry housemate. Additionally, he didnât know that he was a cat person.
Namjoon just smirked at his brothers, âThatâs not his.â
âMy God, I am so tired,â Jimin sat next to Taehyung, his muscles aching with exhaustion. With a heavy sigh, he leaned his whole weight on his friend, seeking some semblance of comfort in their shared weariness.
"Everything hurts," Taehyung moaned, mirroring Jimin's sentiment. He glanced over at Namjoon, pleading silently for a solution. "We need her. Hyung, please. Do something," he implored, his voice tinged with desperation.
Jungkook finally put down his spoon with a loud thud, standing up to look at them one by one. âOkay, I cannot be the only one curious about whose cat that is!â he pointed at the cat who only meowed back at him before shifting his finger to his hyung who was silently eating with a smile on his face. âAnd you, why do you look so good this morning, hyung, while the four of us look like we are 3 hours away from passing away?â he asked Yoongi, his doe eyes demanding answers from the chaotic bunch that only turned more chaotic as the morning wore on.
Yoongi, taking a leisurely sip of his coffee, raised an eyebrow at Jungkook's question. His lips curled into a smirk, revealing a hint of amusement. "Well, Kookie, some of us are just naturally blessed with good genes," he quipped, his tone teasing.
âExcuse me?! Are you saying that I am not blessed with good genes?! Me?! The world wide handsome?! Now, youâre just outright lying!â
âHyuuuuung, do something! I think Iâm dying!â Taehyung shouted amidst the noise.
âStop screaming youâre scaring my son!â Hoseok shot back all while covering the catâs little ears.
âWhose cat is that even?!â Jungkook asked again in disbelief, the vein in his throat protruding from annoyance and curiosity.
âOh my God, Taehyung! I already did something, okay?!â Namjoon finally raised his voice for him to hear.
âAhhhhhhh, my head hurts and sheâs the only cure! I have to go to her!â Jimin whined sadly, attempting to leave his chair slowly.
âIn that state?!â Jin shouted at Jimin and Taehyung, already feeling the stress causing havoc on his otherwise beautiful face.
But Taehyung and Jimin were already halfway out of their chair, clutching their heads dramatically. "I can't take this anymore! I need her!" he wailed, his eyes darting around the room with desperation only to find you by some miracle.
âLittle oneâŠâ he called, his voice small as though he couldnât believe that you were truly there. It was like their pain manifested you, and heavens, it was worth it. Heâd willingly go through this pain if it meant seeing you and having you here where you belonged.
With them.
âGood morning, has anyone seen my cat?â
Your voice, despite it being low, was sufficient to stop the bickering among the CEOs. How they heard you amidst their own noise, you didnât know. One thing was for certain, though. They were attuned to you like lovesick men did. Their eyes were on you with varying emotions. Jungkook was surprised, to say the least. Taehyung and Jimin, on the other hand, were relieved. Yoongi's smirk widened into a grin, his eyes sparkling with delight at the sight of you. Seokjin stared at you in disbelief, as if trying to comprehend how you managed to appear amidst the chaos. Namjoon and Hoseok exchanged a knowing glance, their expressions reflecting a sense of contentment and joy. The pair looked like they secured an extremely important deal and even won the lottery at the same day.
You didnât see Taehyung moved but you certainly felt how his heavy body fell against yours. You certainly heard his sigh of relief even as he swayed on his feet.
And when you touched his hand to support him, that was when he fell.

[y/n; normal] [pato; cursive]
"...Hello? Did you butt-dialed me or something?"
"Uhm, hi. It's not a butt-dial. I-I actually just wanted to talk to you. Hear your voice, y'know. I've been kinda missing you."
"Oh really? And here I was thinking that your cold behavior toward me over the past three weeks meant that you didn't want anything to do with me. Silly me, I guess."
"I-I'm... [sighs]. That's what I wanted to talk to you about, actually. About the way I've been treating you. I'm sorry, y/n. I really am sorry. I know I've been a total jerk-"
"Yeah, you can put it that way."
"...I've been a total jerk and I regret it very much. You didn't deserve it at all. I just- I'm not trying to excuse my awful behavior but I just think I got- Uhm..."
"You got what?"
"Well... I saw Lando's instagram story when you went back to Monaco, as you've probably already figured it out. And I think- Well... I got jealous. And I know it probably sounds stupid now but at the time it felt like a punch in the face."
"Pato..."
"I know I didn't and still have absolutely no business to be jealous about you and Lando, cause you and I are not dating or anything and you don't owe me any kind of explanation about the type of relationship you have with him. But after the great time we spend together in Long Beach... I don't know, it just hurted seeing you with him. But that doesn't excuse anything and I just regret so much the way I've been treating you since then, it hasn't been fair to you at all."
"And it didn't cross your mind that we could have had this conversation way before now? I mean, you waited three weeks to finally talk to me like a decent human being, how-"
"I know and I'm so-"
"Let me finish."
"Sorry, go on."
"However, I do appreciate that you're finally acknowledging all of this and communicating with me like an actual adult. I know it's not always easy to do. And although I don't owe you any kind of explanation, I just want you to know that there's nothing going on between Lando and me."
"So you and him...?"
"We're friends and that's it. We care for each other but there's nothing going on."
"Oh... well, thanks for clarifying that for me."
"Yeah, yeah. You'll have to work harder for my forgiveness, anyway. I appreciate the call but it won't be that easy for you."
"Is that so?"
"You've heard me."
"In that case, what would you say if I invite you for a few days to come here to Punta Mita? Maybe that'll help me a little to earn your forgiveness."
"... I'm sorry, what!?"
"You've heard me."
"You're joking. You have to be joking."
"I'm not joking. You're still in Miami, right?"
"I am..."
"Great! My brother in law is in Miami too and he'll take the jet tomorrow morning. If you want to, you can join him and come here with him! We'd be thrilled to have you here too."
"Oh my God... Pato, I don't know what to say!"
"Say yes and you'd make this birthday boy the happiest man in the world. You'd even make my sister happy, I've been telling her a lot about you and now she's eager to meet you."
"I hope you've been telling her good things about me, then."
"Only the best. She's even on your side, y'know. Said I was being a giant cabrĂłn and needed to make things right. She wasn't wrong tho."
"[giggles] Fine. I'll go, but I'm only doing this for your sister."
"I'll take that anyway! I'll let Brett know you'll join him and I'll send you the details, okay?"
"Okay!"
"Now go and pack your bags for tomorrow."
"Hey! Don't get bosy with me, mister!"
"[Laughs] Fine. Take care, I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you, birthday boy!"

paddockgossips Among the alleged "breakup" between y/n and Lando, the McLaren driver was photographed last night having fun in a Monaco club in the company of Max Fewtrell and other friends. Some sources have said that Lando seemed very cozy with a blonde woman at the party, whom he later left with. However, we cannot verify this information in any way, so it remains a rumor.

paddockgossips NEW WAG ALERT? đš Magui Corceiro, the Portuguese model and actress, attended the Monaco GP after being seen a few days ago having lunch with Lando. It has been rumored that they could be in a relationship, especially since Lando and y/n apparently went different ways, and Corceiro's presence in the paddock has not gone unnoticed by anyone. Skz Calling You Clingy Part 2

It's been 3 days since he snapped at you. You've been giving him space like he asked, not going to the door when he comes home, not asking him about his day, not texting him reminding him to eat and drink enough water, and not clinging onto him before going to sleep. You still cook dinner for him, your mind wouldn't leave you alone unless you knew he had a warm home-cooked meal at the end of the day, however, you no longer try bringing him the food, you just leave it covered on the table for him to eat when he comes home. You've been so distant with him that it feels like walking on eggshells whenever you are in the same room.
Seungmin had been feeling extremely guilty for snapping at you. He regretted it ever since the moment it happened but he was stubborn and prideful and hated having to admit when he was wrong. But with each day that passed, he could tell how hurt you were, and it was eating him up inside. His heart ached every time he came home to find the house quiet, with no sign of you even being there. It felt like he was living alone, and he hated it. He missed your presence, your voice, your laughter, everything about you.
Tonight was the same as the past 3 nights. He came home from practice late and found dinner on the table, but there was no sign of you, you must've been asleep already, he thought. He sat at the table and began to eat, the food was good but cold, you must've made it a while ago.
He ate it all anyway.
After finishing his meal, Seungmin sat there for a few minutes, staring at the empty chair across from him. He really wished you were sitting there right now, talking to him about your day, or just sitting in comfortable silence. He could no longer deny it, something needed to be fixed. Seungmin needed to talk to you, apologize, and make things right again. With a heavy heart, he forced himself to get up and head to the bedroom. Opening the door quietly, he looked around the room and spotted a lump under the covers, confirming you were asleep.
Seungmin moved closer to the edge of the bed, sitting down gently so he wouldn't wake you up. He took a moment to just look at your peaceful sleeping form and it made his heart ache even more. You were always sleeping by the time he came home nowadays. You were avoiding him, it was all his fault for lashing out.
Taking a deep breath, he spoke quietly, "Hey⊠Are you awake?â He waited a few seconds for you to respond but you stayed motionless and silent. He wasn't sure if you were pretending to be asleep, but he decided just to talk anyway, "I know you're mad at me⊠And you have every right to be. I was being an ass when I yelled at you. I'm really sorry." He paused for a moment, taking another deep breath before continuing.
"I didn't mean what I said. I was just tired and in a bad mood⊠That's no excuse though. I was being a jerk to you for no reason⊠I understand if you don't wanna talk to-"
He was cut off when you rolled over and threw yourself onto him.
Seungmin's heart skipped a beat as you suddenly threw yourself onto him. He was caught off guard at first, but quickly wrapped his arms around you, holding you against his chest tightly. He could feel you shaking slightly in his arms, and he gently began running a hand over your back in a soothing manner.
"I'm sorry⊠I'm really sorry." He repeated softly as he cradled you in his arms, feeling the guilt and regret weighing on him heavily.
âI knowâŠand I forgive you.â
Seungmin tightened his hold on you, his heart swelling with relief at your words. You forgave him⊠and he was so grateful for that. He pulled back a bit to look down at your face, cupping your cheek gently. His eyes searched for any hint of anger or lingering hurt but there was none. Seeing your tired, yet slightly tear-stained face, his heart ached. He reached up with his other hand to gently brush away a few stray tears on your cheek.
"You're cryingâŠ" He mumbled softly, his thumb gently stroking your skin. "I really don't deserve you, do IâŠ?" He let out a sigh, shifting slightly so he could lie down on the bed with you cradled in his arms.
âYou're comfortableâŠit's making me sleepyâŠ" You whisper, the sound muffled by his hoodie.
He continued to stroke your hair and caress your back soothingly, "Yeah? Then sleep⊠I'm not going anywhere."
âI love youâŠâ You whisper to him
Seungmin's heart clenched at your words. Hearing those words from you again after all the coldness between you two hit him like a wave. He tightened his hold on you a bit more, pulling you even closer, and buried his face in your hair once more.
"I love you too.." he mumbled against your head, his voice filled with a mixture of regret, love, and relief. "So much⊠I really, really love youâŠ"
Despite these past few days he didn't need to tell you he loved you because you would never doubt his love for you, and he would never doubt your love for him.

I Need You | Part 8
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7
Authorâs Note: Thank you all for your patience! I already started part 9 and will hopefully have it for you guys tomorrow <3
Summary: Forgiveness is a big part of healing but it is harder than it seems.
Pairing: Azriel x Reader
Warnings: angst, let me know if I need to add any others :)
As you went to find Azriel, you were stopped by Rhys. He asked if you could come with him to his office to talk and you agreed.
"You seem to be doing better?" Your high lord said, not sure if it was a statement or a question
"Yeah, I just had a talk with Elain and cleared everything up." You told him
"Cleared everything up? You say that as if it was a simple miscommunication. You had one talk and poof," he waved his hands, "you've forgiven her?" he asked
"Rhys, holding onto all of the pain in my heart has been one of the hardest things I've ever been through. Plus, she was never very close to me." you stated
"You don't have to be close with someone to be decent to them. She hurt you and that's not okay." he countered
"Well, you know Elain, she's been through so much-" you started but a sigh from your friend cut you off.
"So have you, stop making excuses for her. Listen, I'm telling you this because I care about you. You are entirely too nice, and you need to start putting yourself first for once. I'm not saying you have to hate her but you need to work through your feelings before letting everyone off the hook." he told you
You understood what he meant, you had been so eager to fix everything. So desperate to make everything normal again that you hadn't been thinking about yourself.
"I love how much you care about us but please stop worrying about our feelings more than your own. We want to be here for you, so let us." He added with a smile
With a new mindset, you got up to go. You had to find Azriel, even if you weren't ready to forgive him you needed answers. As you reached the door, Rhys spoke again.
"One last thing, Azriel has been punishing himself over this more than any of us could. I don't want you to just let him off the hook, but keep that in mind when you talk to him. He knows he messed up." he told you.
With a nod at your High Lord, you went to find Az.
You turned down a hallway and felt a shadow wrap around your wrist and tug you toward the library. It was as if it knew you were looking for it's master.
Azriel was sitting at one of the big chairs made to fit his wings. He looked up and stood as you entered.
"We need to talk. I have so many questions for you and things I need to say. I don't even know where to begin. " you told him
"I do. I owe you a million apologies. I am so sorry I stood you up. I promise I will make it up to you no matter how long it takes. Please tell me if there is anything I can do to make it better." Az pleaded
"All I need right now is answers. Why did you pull away from me? You were my best friend and all of the sudden one day, you weren't." the words you had been wanting to say finally coming out
"I...I don't know." he stuttered
"Bullshit," you said immediately, "I know you, and you wouldn't do that if there wasn't a reason. Did I do something to you?"
"What? No... I just..." Az could barely get any words out.
You stood there looking expectantly at him.
"I love you. No, I'm IN love with you. I'm infatuated with you. You are everything to me and that terrifies me. I let down everyone I love and now I let you down too." the spymaster confessed
Before you would even put a sentence together, he continued.
"I see you in everything that makes me happy, in everything that brings me life. You are in the wind as I fly, in the stars that I stay up and watch at night. You are in every breath that fills my lungs. I've said it before and I will say it again. You are all of the light in my dark life. There is no life worth living without you." His chest was heaving by the end of his words
Your eyes were wide. You wanted to run and embrace him but you were still confused and hurt.
"If all of what you just said is true, then why did you choose Elain over me time and time again?" Tears filled your eyes as you questioned the male.
"I was a fool. A terrified, madly in love fool. For some reason, I never got it right. I pushed all my feelings aside so I wouldn't lose you. I couldn't bare the thought of you not loving me back. Once Elain came along I knew it would be so much easier to keep myself occupied with her. It was stupid and I regret it, you have to believe me." Azriel told you
"I do. But that doesn't make it ok. And you used Elain, that was not fair to her," you sighed and paused, "I suppose I wasn't being fair by blaming you for everything either. Az, I'm upset that you stood me up but what happened to me was not your fault."
He needed to hear that last sentence but for some reason it broke him.
"If I had been there, maybe I could have stopped it" He choked out through tears and fell to his knees in front of you.
You went to him and put both your hands on his face and made him look at you.
"The only person responsible for my pain is the one who tortured me. You had no way of knowing what was going to happen and I am so sorry for making you feel like it was your fault. I was hurt and angry and took it out on you and that wasn't right," You told him, "I mean, don't get me wrong, you still have a lot of groveling to do for standing me up but stop beating yourself up for the rest of it."
"I can grovel, I love groveling. I'll grovel for the rest of my life if I have to." He spoke
"How about we start with being friends again? It'll take some time for me to forgive and trust you but I'm willing to try if you are." You offered
The spymaster was a little hurt at the word 'friends' but he knew he had to prove himself. Hopefully he could show you he would be better and eventually you two could be something more.
For now, he would accept your friendship.
You both hung out for the rest of the day, catching each other up on whatever was going on in your lives. It didn't immediately feel like how it was before but it was comfortable between you two at least. Eventually it was time for dinner and drinks.
Rhys, Cass, Az, Feyre, Nesta and you all ate a lovely dinner together and then the drinks started. Everyone was enjoying themselves.
Cass said we needed to let loose and began dancing, Feyre immediately joining him.
"They're awful dancers." Nesta spoke with a look of horror on her face watching her mate
You giggled and your body felt light. You felt a glimmer of hope as if everything would eventually be alright.
Cassian and Feyre made their way over to where you, Az, Nesta, and Rhys sat. They made a few awful attempts to get the other three to dance. Once they realized those three wouldn't budge, they put all their efforts to you.
"C'mon y/n, I know you want to dance!" Cass spoke, wiggling his body at odd angles toward you. You shook your head no and threw it back in laughter.
"Please! I'd love to dance with a pretty little thing like you!" Feyre shouted.
Rhys, Az, and Nesta all continued laughing at their High Lady's antics while you and Cass froze.
The two of you stared at each other, sobering up at those words. A look of pain took over Cassian's face as he watched you. You felt your throat start to close up as you tried to stop yourself from crying.
"What's going on?" Az asked, jumping up and assessing the room for a threat.
A few moments of silence passed.
"Tassarion called y/n a pretty little thing when he kidnapped us." Cass told the group, the room growing solemn.
"I'm sorry y/n..." Feyre told you
"You couldn't have known," you said, "I'm kind of tired anyways. I think I'm done for the night."
You began the walk up to your room and Cassian grabbed your arm as you walked past him. He was giving you a look and you just nodded and gave him a small smile in return. You didn't need words to know what he meant. He was there for you if you needed him.
Patting his hand that was holding your arm, you continued to your room and he let you go.
The next couple of days went the same. You would feel like it was a good day and then something would happen that would bring you right back to that dungeon. Azriel was always there helping you through it.
He made sure he was there for you every second you needed him and you were grateful. With his and the rest of the inner circle's help, you got through a couple weeks.
You felt your trust for Az growing everyday. He had started training you again and you were feeling stronger everyday.
You were sat in the library, surrounded by books. Working on a few things for Rhys when you realized you hadn't seen Elain since you spoke to her that day. You raised your head from the book to look at Az, who was reading his own book across from you.
"Where has Elain been?" You asked bluntly
"She's been with Lucien and Jurian" He told you
"Oh? What's she doing there?" You asked
Realizing you weren't going to stop until you got answers, he put his book down, "I talked with her and apologized for using her the way I did. She was still upset with me but I told her that I was also upset with her. Y/N, she knew what she was doing that night, trying to keep me from you. And the flowers? I don't care how embarrassed she was, she couldn't even take the time to see you in person? And couldn't bother to write the note herself? Then after all of that and seeing what happened to you, the only reason you both talked was because you went to her. You may be able to forgive her already but I am not." he said
"So you sent her away?" you couldn't believe him
"No, of course not. She decided to go with him. She said she was going to give the mating bond a chance and also give us some space at the same time." Az answered
"Oh" you responded dumbly, not knowing what to say
"I will work for the rest of my life to gain your full trust and forgiveness back. I know how much pain we both caused you, her having one conversation with you does not change anything. I understand and respect that you must forgive her in order to help yourself but I don't have to do any such thing. I hope you will respect my decision." he said
"I do" you told him
A few of his shadows reached out and slowly curled around you. They had been more hesitant since you shooed them away at the table that day. You smiled at them and more came over to you.
You went back to your work with the comfort of the shadows nuzzled into your hair.

okay dookie.. hear me out on this one,I've been cooking this idea in my mind for far too long, please bring it justice.
sooo- reader is on board the tulpar with the crew, they're a happy-go-lucky cheerful individual with an extremely charismatic personality and are jaw-droppingly attractive. ( Glazing ik forgive me )
here comes the twist, just by pure luck or by some coincidence or the other, the crew finds out that the reader was a very very very popular model in the past.
[ they found some of their old MAGAZINES/PORNOS ]
not just any model- playboy/gravure models who used to be incredibly popular and and a hotshot, but left that career in the past to focus on bigger things in space.
How would the crew react? Or behave towards them after finding out about their past? Would they be attracted towards her? Please I need to know you write so well
Uhhhmmm uhmmmmm. . Ookayyyy..... Okay.
Imagine how Curly felt when he found out the new worker, WHO HE DID NOT LOOK UP AND DOWN BECAUSE I KNOW HE'S NOT A PERVERT BECAUSE HES MY HUSBAND YOU DIPSHIT, was a model! Plus, he can see your tits too. I guess, he came back to Earth and was just browsing around a random shop when he found the magazine. Usually, he doesn't even bat an eye at them because let me say this again HE'S NOT A WEIRDO. Not to say that all people who buy revealing girl magazines are weirdos (they are). But he saw your face and was so shocked. Like, wow! He doesn't confront you about it. The first time he saw you after he saw the magazine, Curly stares you up and down with the image of your bare body with a bikini on. Of course, when you're not looking. This only happened a few times before he got used to it. People change, and he doesn't have the right to pry into their personal life. If you do tell him about your old job, he wouldn't be super... Surprised. I can't tell if he'd tell you that he already knew or he'd just act like he didn't. You choose.
JIMMY, might be ecstatic. First time he saw you, pretty face, pretty body, oh he is PLOTTING. I'm sorry, it's the truth. Now, he's found a magazine of you! YOU! Basically naked. When he found that magazine, he fucking stole it. 1. He doesn't want to be known as those guys, 2. In this economy? For a fancy paged excuse of a book? Yeah, no. Sometimes masturbates to it. Jimmy would definitely use it as blackmail if you don't want people finding out about your old job. Might even use it to get into your pants.
Okay so, I've got two perspectives on this for Swansea. First, you're a young model. Maybe he thought you were a pretty face, but it doesn't affect him that much. Pretty girls are everywhere, he doesn't need to get a boner about. When he saw the magazine, he didn't give a shit. Hes too old to care, but if you tell him, he'll say that he already knew.
Second, if you're around the same age and used to be a model in your 20s but wanted to try out a new job. Swansea thought you were quite youthful and pretty for your age (he's jealous), but still doesn't think much of it until he hears your name. Of course, young Swansea, imo, wasn't into magazines as well. But, he definitely knows the names of a few models. Who says his old friends weren't weirdos? Then he just brushes it off like, "Nah, probably a coincidence. Millions and billions of people are living in the universe, there's bound to be someone with the same name". Then when you tell him, he's like... A little shocked... But goes back to work. Thats all.
Daisuke already knows. DON'T TELL ME THAT HE DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW WHEN YOU CAME IN. I have a feeling that he's either really into the news of celebrities (Oh, no! Y/N quits modeling at age __?!???? Outrageous!!!) or his friends told him. Within a few moments, Daisuke is already up to you, asking if youre Y/N. Gets a pic and an autograph, and now he's happy. Yay >3<!!!
Anya, i think would also kind of know a few models. But only the really popular ones. She strikes me as a person who used to daydream of being as pretty as the girls on the cover, but then grew out of it. I don't think shes an insecure person if we're talking about looks. When she sees you, she definitely notices that you're pretty, but won't say much about it. Maybe a compliment, but that's all. Probably won't notice that you're one of the girls on the cover, but when she does, she kinda just... Doesn't say anything. Again, I don't think she thinks it's her business. If you tell her when she already knows, she'll just calmly say that she knew. If she didn't know until then, she'll probably be a little shocked but thats all. Nothing extravagant.

đđâ // âđłââđŠââđčââđȘâ âđŻââđŠââđšââđŽââđ§ââđžâ
No one seemed to like the cliffhanger, so here's a draft that i converted into a makeshift part 6.
Nate Jacobs + Fem!reader. Warnings : Dark. NSFW. Drugs. Contains brief explicit content. Literally the only smut I have ever and will ever write.
Part 1 : Whiplash Part 2 : 9 Lives Part 3 : Blessed Part 4 : Shards Part 5 : Eighteen
You do NOT have permission to repost and/or translate any of my fics.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
Nate had never been more pissed in his life. Ever. You'd blatantly disobeyed him. Well, not technically. No technically, you hadn't been told anything, but he'd have figured you weren't so dense as to go and visit Shane motherfucking Crestin in the motherfucking ER !
Honestly. It's like you had one braincell and all it told you was to piss him off.
And fuck him. He definitely saw that in your eyes the last time.
Or was that the molly?
Probably the molly.
But whatever. The fact was, you wanted to fuck him, and he wanted to fuck you, and he had no idea why you wanted him out of your life if that was the case. Wasn't that fate? Two people want something so bad, they should end up doing it, no? Not going and visiting the reason they couldn't do it in the ER.
Yeah, he decided.
Yes. They. Should.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
He'd figured you would avoid him like the plague, anyway. So he didn't care if it reached you or not that he was helping McKay host a party. So imagine his surprise when, after about two months of no contact, you showed up at his party.
"Whoa."
You frowned. "Excuse me?'
"What happened to 'get the fuck out of my life, Nate?' What, were you just full of it?"
"Dude. If me being here bothers you that much, I'll just fucking leav-"
"Jeez, don't be a baby, short stuff.", he cooed, patting your head before slinging an arm around you. "C'mon, let's do shots."
"Hey, whoa, whoa, none of this friendliness."
He rolled his eyes, removing his hand from you. "Fine. C'mon. I missed you."
And the problem was, he did. He actually fucking missed you. Which was the weirdest thing to happen to him since... well, birth. It wasn't anything in particular, it wasn't even the fact that you were easy on the eyes.
He, like a fucking simp, just liked you being around him.
With as much trepidation as a sycophant scorned by his master, he gently, reverently, offered you a shot. "For old times' sake?"
You rolled your eyes, taking it from him. "For old times' sake? Like, the time you got me drunk at school?'
He smiled, his hand slowly back around your shoulder as he tugged you closer, kissing your temple. "We could always go back, y'know?", he murmured next to your ear. "Get high on the bleachers again."
"No."
"C'mon, we haven't hung out in two months. Ditch these fakes. I'm the fun one, anyway."
Jesus.
He took a long drag of his vape, the smoke bombarding your face. He proferred it to you and frowned when you declined. "Why not?"
"I don't vape."
"Are you one of those bitches that says 'smoke a real cigarette'?"
"No, I don't smoke at all."
He rolled his eyes. "We're going to the bleachers."
It was weird, to say the least, the air between you two back at the bleachers. You sat, looking up at the sky, the grass, anywhere but his eyes, and he sat with his head on your lap.
Silence covered the two of you until he sighed. "Can we just pick up where we left off?"
"And where was that?"
"With me almost eating you out."
You scoffed. You wouldn't have done that if you thought he was being serious. You wouldn't have done that if you were entirely sober. But you didn't and you weren't, so you scoffed. "Right. Yeah. Sure."
"I'm not joking. You're making this harder than it needs to be. There isn't any ulterior motive, this is just... boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Girl likes boy-"
"Debatable.", you muttered, but he ignored it.
"-Boy wants to fuck girl, girl wants to fuck boy, boy fucks girl. Why are you adding shit? Do you want drama? Is that what this is? Because we could do drama. I could do drama like you've never fucking seen before!"
In Nate speak, that meant he had a big dick and he wanted you to know.
"Look. It's just too complicated. You've- there's too much-"
"Forget it all. 'Kay? Just you and me.", he replied immediately, sitting up.
"Because you quote-unquote 'love' me."
"Exactly that." His lips found yours, and surprisingly, this time, you actually had a spine and pulled away.
"What the FUCK?"
Huffing, he rolled his eyes and stroked your cheek as he shifted and knelt down. "Can we skip the part where you scream 'what the fuck, what the fuck' and push me away and get to the part where you admit you want me? I've had a long day."
Seeing him down there did nothing to make you feel safer.
"Nate-"
"Jesus fuck, Y/N, please, just, for the love of god-", he muttered, as if you were being an inconvenience at the moment and not him, the asshat on his knees. "Would you just relax?"
"Look, Y/N. I love you.", he said, and his hands slowly slid up to the hem of your shirt, his thumb rubbing the skin right under it. "Let me show you."
"You don't love me. Stop saying that."
"Fine, then. I want you. And stop telling me you don't want me, like it's a mortal sin or something.", he warned, gripping the backs of your thighs.
Sadly, you couldn't entirely blame this on the molly this time.
It definitely contributed to the decision, but mostly to the fact that it made every single touch of his explode with a robust... flavour that you couldn't replicate even if you tried.
He smiled up at you so softly you'd think he was on his knees to propose. But no. Instead of opening up a little box, he opened the fly to your pants.
"Can you look at me, please?"
You sighed, looking down. "What?"
"You really don't look like you're against this. I'd even go so far as to say you want me, but you're too much of a pussy to admit it."
You did want him. BUT. You were against this. Because it was wrong. But you were letting him kiss up your thighs, bite at your lower abdomen.
Meaning it was the world according to Nate and it both infuriated you and turned you on.
FUCK.
Hums came from both your mouth and his, and before you knew it, your fingers felt nothing but the locks of his hair, pulling so hard there was no way he wasn't in pain. And he must have been, because gently, so seamlessly, he trailed his hand up to yours, removing it from his hair and interlocking it with his own.
But he didn't pause. His tongue continued doing... well, whatever the hell it was doing that made you want to stab the Earth for being able to produce Nate Jacobs as well as praise it for... well, being able to produce Nate Jacobs.
"You're a virgin?", he asked, breathless, raising a brow in incredulity.
You'd be lying if you said your brain even registered his question - registered anything but his tongue and lips.
"Are you a virgin?"
"Why? Don't tell me this is still a test to see if I'm easy or not-"
"It's not.", he assured, reaching up slowly, and then kissing your cheek of all fucking places. One of his hands trailed back down and into you while the other one immediately closed your mouth, though you had no idea why. It was a fucking desolate high school football field. No one was going to hear anyway.
He grinned, pressing his forehead against yours as he added another finger, curling them as he worked into you. "Shh, shh, shh.", he murmured, after probably feeling the results of you trying not to lose your shit beneath his palm.
"See? We go great together."
You screamed. But it didn't quite carry.
He frowned in confusion for a moment when you made a muffled noise and then muttered an 'ah' as he gently removed his palm from your mouth.
"That's not..."
"Hm? That's not what?"
You could have killed yourself right there, because he smirked is what he did. He smirked when you couldn't finish (and barely even start) your sentences.
"That's not even remotely..."
You were stalling. That was clear. Why? You didn't know. There was no logical reason. He was already fucking inside you, there was no point in backing out of this now.
But there was reason to hesitate.
He sighed, licking his lips and shaking his head in disappointment, brushing hair from your face. "Hey."
"What?"
"If you don't fuck me right now, I will lose my shit. I will cut myself. I will play Russian Roulette again. That work for you?"
Oh, this sick, sick, sick, SICK motherfucker.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
Why you did it? Question for the ages.
You should've said no. You should've gone home. You didn't go home, though, not even after the fact. You probably should have.
Instead, you found yourself back at Fezco's store. Not voluntarily, either, it just seemed your car was as drained as you were, and you forgot to fill it back up.
"Rue?", you called out into what you imagined to be an abyss. Her voice appeared like light at the end of a tunnel. "Hey."
"You high?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"I need someone to pick me up."
"Maddy's not free?"
"I didn't check."
"Well.", she groaned, shifting around, clearly in some sort of drug-induced discomfort, "You should. I don't wanna kill you, y'know, you mean so fucking much to me."
The sarcasm in her voice was mildly hurtful, but hey. At least she cared enough not to kill you.
More than Nate had ever cared.
"Okay."
So, of course, you called Cassie. Because no fucking way were you calling Maddy to come pick you up from the store owned by the local dealer, which was suspiciously close to the party thrown by her ex.
The car ride with her was smooth and lovely and peaceful. Because she was smooth and lovely and peaceful.
"You think your car will be safe, out there, all night?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, I told Fez. He knows what to do."
"Y/N, I... I've noticed you've been off, like, the last term or so."
You did not need her therapy session right now.
"Nah, I'm fine."
"You're not.", she chuckled, nervously, shaking her head as she slowed down at the red light. "You seem on edge. I think it's cause of him."
"Him?"Â WHAT? How the fuck did this ditz know?
"Yeah. Like, I don't know, maybe you're in love with him, and you think it's, like... forbidden, because he's a bad influence or something, but you just kinda look... strung out. Like there's a huge secret you're keeping."
She was supposed to be clueless about what was going on around her. Isn't that the thing they say about hot blondes?
"Love? In love? With who?"
"Fezco, of course. I get it, he's a dealer, but he's also hot, and I guess, let's face it, he's quite nice for a criminal."
Oh, thank god. The dumb blonde theory stands.
"I'm not in love with Fez."
"Then why are you so... off?"
"I...", you sighed, deciding to stick to the truth as much as safely possible. "I got in with some bad people during spring break."
The look of concern on her face made you want to apologize and buy her whatever she wanted, or maybe even confess to every fucking sinful thought you'd ever had.
"What? Oh, my god, what? Like, hard drugs and shit?"
"More like guns and shit."
"Y/N, WHAT?!"
"Yeah, it was fucked up, but I'm out of it now, though, so you don't have to worry, okay, Cass? I'm peachy. I'm great, honest! Hey, it's turning amber."
She frowned, turning back to the road in front of her. "You sure?"
You'd never been more grateful for Nate throwing the lamp to your right rather than your left.
You'd never been more grateful for Nate giving you a hickey on your right rather than your left.
You nodded. "Yeah. Thanks, though."
"So. Did you... you went to his party, right? Did you see him? Did you guys talk?"
It took you a moment to figure out that she was talking about her ex.
"McKay? Yeah. Yeah."
"How is he? Did he mention me?"
"He's, um... he's doing fine, I guess. He looks like he misses you, but you know him. He probably won't tell me."
"I just... maybe we... I just want to, um... fix things."
"You should."
"You think?"
You nodded. What the fuck else could you do to distract her from the fact that if she took one look down, she'd see Nate blowing up your phone? "Yeah, you guys were great together."
You instantly cringed. Because that was what Nate had said about you and him. "See? We go great together."'
"I don't know if I want him back, or what. What do you think?"
That I just fucked Nate Jacobs. And that the molly was only half of it. That I'm going to kill myself.
"I think... I think you broke up for a reason, Cass."
She nodded, and the rest of the car ride went in pleasant silence.
Then she dropped you home.
And Rue was waiting for you.
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
"You're pissing me off. What is this, blackmail?'
"Yeah. It is. I saw you two in the bleachers, and if you tell people I'm not sober, I'll let it slip that you let Nate Jacobs inside you."
Keep your calm. If you show even a tiny sign of accepting that she was right, you're dead meat. "It was a psych project. He had just finished a practice, so we sat there and finished some work."
"With tequila?"
Silence. Okay. She was not talking about tonight. She was talking about the gun-night. This was salvageable.
"Funnily enough, Y/N, according to what Lexi told me, there's been no 'psych assignment-slash-project.'"
"Rue-"
"So you've not only been lying to all of us, you've been betraying Maddy. And you've done Jules so wrong.'
"Look, you don't even know-"
"Then tell me."
So you did. You told her about the Instagram story, you told her about the Russian roulette, hell, you even told her about the dinner and the scar. What you didn't tell her about was the sex. The mind-blowing guilt-inducing sex.
"But I saw you kiss him on the bleachers."
"I was drunk, Rue. I'd have let the fucking janitor kiss me."
"Look, Y/N, those are my terms."
"You're asking me to lie to everyone about your health, your wellbeing! We're all looking out for you, Rue! Y'can't just blackmail me into not doing right by you."
"As nice as that is, the fact still stands that you fucked Nate."
FUCK!
"Rue, please-"
"He doesn't even fucking want you. He wants to get back at Maddy, and you're too fucked out to see it!"
"Rue, you're crossing the li-"
"I bet that fucking him was the only thing you've been doing this whole time. What, did you fuck him when Maddy was with him?"
Rue laughed after you slapped her and that definitely told you she was so high she couldn't even feel it. "C'mon. Grow up.", she scoffed, tucking hair behind your ear. "Girl code's not important anymore, is it? We're all eighteen - adults - now."
WHY must everyone always do that with your hair? So fucking condescendingly, too?!
"Rue, I didn't fuck Nate Jacobs."
"Then why is he blowing up your phone? Yeah, you think I didn't notice the name on your screen?"
"He blows up my phone because he's a psycho- I told you about the Russian Roulette thing and the gun and the slit wris-"
"Yeah, but you said you asked him to leave you alone and he did. Why would he break no contact? What could've happened?"
"Rue, I am not going to help you fake sobriety in front of your family- I- Rue, what is that?"
She frowned, looking down and following your line of sight. Her bag. The front zip. A needle. She looked back up, deadpan. "Fent."
"RUE! YOU CAN'T EXPECT ME T-"
"Look, Y/N, I like you, I do. There's no reason for you to worry, okay? If you could be quiet, your life will go on as it always does. No reputation loss, no guilt, no embarrassment."
"This will kill you! I can't do that to you, Rue, please!"
"But you can do Nate Jacobs?"
You were genuinely about to strangle this fucking trapper cunt.
"Think about it."
What, had she gotten lessons in blackmail from him?
ââââââââââââââââââââ âđ©â ââââââââââââââââââââ
That night, you were too fucking exhausted to even question why Nate was knocking at your window. You just opened it for him. You just let him kiss you. You just let him tuck your hair behind your fucking ear.
"I have a question."
"What?"
"Did you visit Shane in the hospital?"
Okay. No way he could have found out about that. You didn't tell a single fucking soul.
"Huh?"
"I beat him up for you. 'Cause he was saying you fucked when you didn't.", he said, his voice oddly calm for a man betrayed.
"I didn't ask you to!"`
"Please.", he scoffed, clapping sarcastically. "Biggest cop-out of the century."
"IÂ didn't!"
"He was calling you a slut, basically. As if you'd just give it up to anyone." What, like he knew you that well?
"Hundreds of people say hundreds of shit about me every fucking day! What am I, supposed to set you on them?"
"You could."
You scoffed.
"I'm being serious. You could say "'sic 'em' " and I'd beat them to a bloody pulp.", he informed, brushing hair over your ear again. "Say it. Tell me someone to beat up. I'll do it. No matter who it is."
"Nate. I didn't ask you to do any of this. I asked you to leave me alone, and you did the opposite!"
"You're acting like I showed up, fucked you, and then just left!"
He clenched his jaw, his grip on the piece of hair he just pushed behind your ear, now shifting to the rest of your hair. "No, cunt. I said 'I love you'. Or did you conveniently forget that?"
Oh. Right. THAT.
"What? You're suddenly acting like a pussy, baby, what's up with that? Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't remember. Don't be a pussy. C'mon, tell me. Oh, yeah, wait a minute, you can't."
"You didn't mean that. You wanted to get what you wanted, so you-"
"You think I say shit like 'I love you' lightly? You think I throw that word around?" Yes, he did, but you didn't need to know that. He decided to deploy the trauma card.
"You've seen what my parents are like. You think I'd abuse the words 'I love you'?"
"I guess not-"
"Yeah. EXACTLY."
Ooh, you were putty in his hands and he almost got a semi because of it.
"Look, okay, fine, Nate, that- that was out of pocket, but you can't expect me to-"
"But I do. I have never lied to you. Have I? I've blackmailed you and threatened you and, fuck, yeah, I've stuck a goddamn gun down your throat, but when have I ever lied?"
"So you're saying you 'love'Â me and I have to just accept it."
"I'm saying I love you, and you have to just believe it.'
And god help you, you somehow did.
"Rue's blackmailing me."
He mock-gasped. "You're cheating on me, then."
You couldn't help the chuckle that left your lips. Him being so calm in the face of danger should make him look foolish in your eyes, not admirable.
And the molly excuse was being held up by string the breadth of dental floss, honestly.
"Does she use firearms as well? Did you think about me the whole time?" He was clearly trying to make you laugh, and it was working.
He kissed your forehead. "What did she blackmail you for?"
"For or about?"
"Both."
"For : keeping her relapse a secret from everyone. About : the gun-night at the bleachers."
"Okay, so the choice is clear."
"What?"
Nate Jacobs had scared you when he'd said he loved you and when he'd said he'd kill himself for you, but he'd never scared you as much as he did with what he said next.
"We just sit back and watch that bitch OD."

In search of freedom (Ch. 1)
1. They're bad news
Chapter 1 ; Chapter 2
â â â â She's been searching for freedom her entire life and everytime she thought it was laying right in front of her eyes, she was mistaken. She was running around the East Blue, seeking herself and her dreams, meeting people she never forgot. No matter how much she traveled, she could only catch a glimpse of peace before realizing everything would crumble at her feet.
â â â â Maybe it was destiny that brought her on that ship with three strangers â foolishly, that's what she tried to believe when the moon shined beautifully and hope settled in her chest, squeezed by the same ribcage where feelings were blooming.
Pairing: female!reader x OPLA Zoro Roronoa. This chapter follows the events of the first episode.
Warnings for this chapter: physical violence (fights), mentions of deaths, fluff, some cursing, mentions of tarot and palm readings
Word count: 3,6k
Theme song: âLoreleyâ by Blackmore's Night (click on the link)
A/N: This is the first part of a fanfiction I was thinking of since first watching One Piece Live Action. I started the anime too and I'm around episode 64 already. I'm using the OPLA course of action for now and I have no idea for an ending, but enough scenarios to write and share. I don't know how far this will go, but I'll have fun writing it and considering how much I like Zoro (born anime and LA), I'm using both of them as inspiration. Sorry for the lack of interaction between reader and Zoro, but I promise things will change.
The reader will be referred to as "Witch" especially in the next chapter, because I have no intentions of using "Y/N". There will be more information revealed about her past and abilities in the next chapter.
I'm open for comments and opinions <3
"Excuse me," she smiled sweetly while swaying away from someone who was standing right in front of her and a table she had to serve for. "Here," she carefully let the plates down.
She received a large smile coming from the young man with dark curls and a straw hat hanging around his neck. His pink haired companion seemed very shy, barely glancing at her before looking back at his plate, thanking in a small voice.
The tavern buzzed with a peaceful energy in the late hours of morning, the big windows letting the warm rays of sun in, lighting up the place. There were men sitting at a few tables, no sign of any other woman except for her and the very owner of that place, who just finished cooking something â were those cookies? It smelled divine.
Her dress fluttered around her knees as she moved away from their table to take other orders, a strand of her hair falling against her cheek after running around for so long. When she finally stopped in her tracks by the bar, intense eyes searched for anyone else who might've needed something. Lucky for her, she could finally breathe for a few seconds, resting her hips against the bar.
However, her eyes fell on the tall figure who just chugged down his throat a shot of alcohol. His green hair made her frown to herself, looking away before she could get caught ogling some stranger. After a few seconds, she looked at him again, this time at the three swords resting against his hip.
Three swords? What can someone do with three swords?
Everyone probably had the same question whenever they saw him for the first time. However, he felt somehow familiar, as if she's heard of someone like that before. A pirate? No, wait, a pirate hunter? The owner told her of so many things and so many people it was impossible to remember each one of them, but she was pretty sure she mentioned some pirate hunter only a few days ago.
Her thought process was interrupted when a man with blonde hair and suit walked by in front of her. Considering the men dressed in white uniforms who entered with him, they must be marines and he was probably their superior â he was walking like he owned the entire port.
She held back from rolling her eyes in annoyance. Her thoughts ran back to what her friend said about pirates last time, the way they argued back and forth about how pirates aren't good. However, she had her own reasons for claiming that not all pirates were ruthless monsters, without elaborating.
She flinched lightly when she heard the thud of a metal plate falling on the floor, snapping her head towards a little girl who was stuttering apologies to the blonde man. Her eyebrows were pulled together at his angry and loud voice mocking the child who had tears in her eyes, fear seeping through her very bones at the exaggerated reaction.
Apparently, they knocked into each other. Oh, there were two cookies on the floor. One of them got crushed under the man's foot.
She smoothly made her way by the side of the little girl, smiling at her as she crouched down to her level.
"Is everything alright, little one? Did you apologize?" the woman's hand squeezed the girl's shoulder warmly.
Rika's only response was a nod.
"Good job. It's alright, I'll help you clean up. Why don't you bring me a broom, hm?" she coaxed the girl with a gentle voice.
Once the girl walked away, she stood up straight again, arching her eyebrow questionably at the arrogant man by her side.
"Is there anything else I could help you with?"
"What, are you working here? If the answer's positive, then you better teach those stupid kids some manners," he huffed.
"You should teach yourself how to behave," she commented right back, her sharp gaze sizing him up and down.
"Take that back. Next time I won't be so nice," the blonde marine grinned.
Oh, and what an ugly grin it was on that fucker's face.
"You dropped my food," a low voice from behind interrupted.
The young woman turned her head towards the voice, confusion written on her face as she made a few steps back, out of his way. It was the green haired man she noticed earlier, now sitting on one of his knees on the cold floor.
Rika came back with a broom almost twice her size, the object quickly taken from her hold by the woman who smiled at her again. While they exchanged glances, the pirate hunter let himself down on one of his knees, taking some of the crushed cookie into his palm.
A sly smile tugged at the woman's lips. A pirate hunter or not, he had more dignity than a marine even in that kneeling position. She was more satisfied to see the little one smiling.
"Your turn," the green-haired man lowered his voice, a dark glare thrown at the astonished marine.
The pirate hunter raised back up and placed the metal plate on the bat, his intimidating height against the arrogant blonde monkey in front of him telling enough.
"Apologize to the girl," he demanded in a relaxed tone.
"Me? It was her fault for bumping into me. The lady should apologize for disrespecting me."
Apologize, my ass, she thought to herself, one step away from bursting out laughing. What did he take her for?
"Do you want a fight or what?" he drew his sword out, a knowing grin curled on his face. "I don't need three swords to fight."
The woman looked down at the little girl who was still by her side, ruffling her hair.
"Why don't you go to your mother, hm? And stay there until I call you back."
Her stern voice didn't give space for arguing; Rika complied, going to the kitchen.
She heard some muttering and next thing she knew, both of the men in front of her had drawn their swords out. Apparently, the green-haired one decided to advance closer to the marine, in an attempt to keep the fight away from the lady.
Hmph. Swordsmen and their unusual gentlemanly behavior.
Squeezing the broom in between her fingers, she moved away, furrowing her eyebrows in a scowl.
"No fights in here, you jerks!" she scoffed.
Expertly, while the other marines attacked one man â how unethical of them â and swords clashed against each other after sharp whistling noises, the woman swept away the cookies on the floor. She faked doing her own duties, like the good employee that she was, throwing careful glances at the fight happening right next to her. If she wasn't careful enough, she could get sliced in two.
"I advise you to get out of the way," she heard the swordsman's voice growling right after he threw a chair into three men, making them fall to the floor.
"You'll destroy the entire place if I do."
Right after saying those words, without anyone noticing in that damned agitation, with a quick movement of the broom, she made one of the marines trip.
Just like the idiots that they were.
"Oh my god, you should be more careful!" she placed a hand over her lips, fake surprise and fear coloring her features.
Who would believe such an innocent being was capable of such malicious actions?
With a strong creak followed by a thud, one marine was thrown into a table that turned the both of them upside down, groans filled with pain vibrating through the tavern.
She was right about them destroying the place.
However, the commotion didn't cause too much distress to the woman still moving the broom around, acting as if she had business with that newly found weapon. It might not be lethal, but she couldn't be spotted while she was intentionally making the marines' jobs harder. In the month she's been working there, she saw more than just one fight and used everything that she saw fit to stop it â be it a broom or a kitchen knife.
Now that she analyzed the fight better, it seemed like the pirate hunter barely even had to draw his sword out of its scabbard, at some point knocking someone's head into the bar. He used his raw strength and the objects surrounding him, thankfully without destroying any of them. The can he threw into another man's stomach seemed so effortless.
That must've hurt, though.
The blonde marine was quickly pulled by the back of his collar, back colliding with the bar, and an angry swordsman towering over him. She didn't hear anything nor paid attention anymore, eyes focused on the tavern that was ruined only half way through.
She sighed after watching both of the men walking out of there, biting her lower lip to hold back a fit of laughter at the marine who stumbled while being dragged by the bounty hunter.
"Why do men always fight in this tavern?" she talked to herself, raising one of the chairs and putting it back in place. "One day of peace is all I want in this port, only one day, and I can't get even that."
She sighed again, only for that long exhale to get stuck in her throat once her eyes fell on the table that was almost sitting in the opposite way rather than how it should be. Once she approached it, stepping by the marine who was trying to get up.
She would never help someone who had less dignity than a dog following some orders from a brainless monkey. Heck, even those animals were smarter.
Instead, she tried to move the table back in its place. Her fingers were so close to gripping at one side of the table before someone appeared at the opposite side. The young man with a straw hat and a square smile she served only a few minutes ago raised the table by himself, carefully arranging it until he was satisfied with its position.
"Thank you so much for the help," she smiled at him. "Be careful where you step, I think a glass also broke."
There were some shreds on the floor somewhere close to the table the young man sat at earlier.
"Thank you for your concern," he smiled just like the first time.
Gosh, has she ever seen such a beautiful soul? His eyes sparkled and the happiness suited him like it did to a little child who has no clue of the harsh world. However, he didn't seem phased or scared by what happened earlier â his hands weren't shaking at all and there was no fear lingering in his stare.
She turned to take the broom and came closer to his companion, who was sitting under the table. She bent her torso to give him a hand, helping him get back to his feet.
"Careful with the glass, check your hands," she warned again.
"I saw what you did there."
She turned towards the straw hat guy, blinking owlishly at him.
"I don't really get what you mean."
She started sweeping the shred of broken glass, not paying attention to the curious and insistent gaze she was receiving.
"You surely do. I'm Monkey D. Luffy and I'm gonna be King of the Pirates!"
Her eyes widened at the second part of his speech, snapping her head back at him. Without even realizing, her fingers were squeezing the broom quite harshly, fingertips going white.
"That'sâ" she started in a small voice, blinking like an idiot and staring at him.
She's heard that before. She's heard the same dream before and it brought so much suffering.
"That's dangerous," she finally got the courage to continue, still hesitant.
"You're brave for interfering with their fight."
Luffy looked into her eyes as if he could guess the thoughts running through her head, as if he could read her very soul, drinking in her features and reaction.
"You must've seen wrong," she let out a light chuckle, getting a grip on herself. "I'm just clumsy sometimes."
She was thankful she stopped herself from cussing out the Marines, because in less than a second after she finished her sentence, a few other men dressed in white uniforms appeared to help their comrades back to the base. She casted a skeptical eye at each one of them, like silent warnings.
They were pathetic, some of them still stumbling while trying to get up, their swords thrown around carelessly. After they all disappeared from her sight, her shoulders obviously relaxed again.
"I have to admit I hated each second of staying so much with these idiots around," she huffed quietly. "That spoiled child who takes advantage of his father's status was getting on my nerves."
"That's why you helped that swordsman, right?"
Luffy continued with his supposition, not letting go of what he thought he saw â it was the truth, but it would be dangerous to admit.
"I didn't help anyone, really. That was unintentional."
"Don't press it too much, Luffy," his companion's voice trembled.
"Koby, I know what I saw," Luffy pulled his lips into a straight line.
She resumed what she was doing, sweeping at the pieces of glass, seeing almost each one of them in the light seeping through the window.
"If you want to become King of the Pirates, I suppose you also want to get the One Piece, right?"
She was foolish. She was stupid for asking, for getting herself in such business that somehow always ended with too many deaths, with broken dreams. However, something was nagging in her gut. Deep down, it felt so right to ask.
"Yes! I need the Grand Line map for that and I intend on getting from the Marine Base here."
"You're insane, kid," her shoulders shook with her light laughter.
It was a sour sound.
She stopped, leaning her weight into the broom, looking down at the glass in front of her. She shouldn't help them. She should stay in her place if she wanted those young men to survive. What they were trying to do was basically suicide, they just didn't know. Koby seemed to be more fearful, hesitant and so, so shy. Luffy didn't say "us"; he said "I" â the pink-haired guy was not really part of the plan.
Against better judgment, she raised her head at him, promises sparkling in her eyes just like the shreds of glass.
"You can't just ask for that map and I hope you know that. What you want to get yourself into isn't just dangerous, it's like jumping into a suicide mission," her voice strained, pouring all of her hope in her next words: "However, I can help you get inside. Be careful, you have to make sure no one catches you."
"So I was right about you!" Luffy beamed.
"Right about what?"
"That you're brave."
Her lips opened, but no sound came from between them. It was pointless to deny it when he seemed so stubborn about what he saw and believed.
"I think this is a lot to say about someone who's helping you steal secret maps," the side of her mouth curled upwards.
Koby was left astonished. Stealing from the Marines was suicide.
"Listen here, kid," she lowered her voice, stepping closer to whisper. She set her gaze on Luffy's. "You have to get out of there alive, no matter what. Lie if you have to, but I have a feeling you're very bad at that, so be careful. That isn't a place to fool around in. You could get yourself killed in a blink. The Marines are very sneaky."
"There are good Marines and bad Marines," he shrugged. "Maybe I'll meet someone who's willing to help."
"I like your enthusiasm, but that unit base doesn't fit," she shook her head. "Both Captain Morgan and his son aren't the good kind of people."
She squeezed the broom in between her fingers again, an ugly feeling clawing at her throat. She didn't want a kid to die for following his dreams, but freedom was something she always craved.
"I'll tell you a way to get inside the base from underneath. You have to keep your lips sealed â I don't worry about myself, but about the owner and her daughter. I don't want word spreading around."
"You can count on me!" he placed his hand on his heart, as if he sealed the promise there. "Who are you? I want to know who's helping me."
Damned be his sincerity.
"I'll give you my name after you get out of there alive."
She smiled, eyes sparkling with delicious mischief.
"That is a promise. I'll be around the Marine Base and I'll tell you my name after I see you get out of there alive."
That seemed to stir something in Luffy's soul, inhaling with pride. A man of his word, indeed, just like she thought.
"Deal.
âąââââąââââąâââ
Her name left the lips of a scolding mother, even if it wasn't her mom.
"I saw you." The second time she heard tthat same phrase in one day.
Annie patted the tip of her shoe against the floor repeatedly.
"I was just lucky enough not to get myself in trouble," she shrugged.
However, her eyes fell on the floor, guilty about getting caught like a deer in the light.
"You could've gotten yourself in big trouble!" the owner of the tavern raised her voice.
Rika pouted up at her mother, trying to sweeten her reaction.
"She just wanted to help, just likeâ"
"Rika," this time, the scolded one firmly spoke her name. "Don't take me as an idol. It's true that something could have happened."
The little girl shouldn't worry about such a bloody world just yet and she wanted to help it for as long as possible. Being stubborn was a death sentence, even if she would always get herself into trouble if it meant to stick to her principles.
She'd rather die on her feet than live on her knees.
"Just because this time everything was fine, it doesn't mean next time will be the same," Annie exhaled loudly, frowning.
"There won't be a next time," the young woman sank her chin in her chest. "I should leave these days. Soon enough, word will spread out about my tarot and palm readings. I don't want to cause you any more trouble."
"You little witch," the usual scolding was replaced with a warm nickname.
She raised her head again, struggling to smile. Leaving after she got attached always hurt.
"That man was Roronoa Zoro, wasn't it?" Annie asked, her body suddenly tensing.
"Most probably," she shrugged. "Three swords, three earrings. He put on quite a show, to be honest," the words were followed by a chuckle.
"I see the way your eyes are sparkling. Don't even think about getting into some conversation with such a troublesome person."
"What could do some adventure to a poor soul like me?" she teased.
"It could bring you six feet under."
âąââââąââââąâââ
"I'm no witch, you idiots!" she struggled against the harsh grip the two men had on her arms.
She hissed when one of them sank his fingertips in her upper arms, glaring at him.
Shithead marines.
She continued writhing and struggling, stomping her feet into the ground in an awful attempt to stop them. She intended on keeping her promise after she helped the straw hat sneak into their base. She waited for as long as it was necessary after she gathered her things in a bag that hung around her shoulders. She was supposed to leave that place after she made sure the kid was alright and alive.
"God dammit!" she shouted. "How many times do I have to explain I'm not doing anything wrong?!"
"You're lying to people and receiving money, filthy witch. You're a thief," one of the men commented as they continued walking her away from the port.
"I didn't steal shit!" she snapped.
"Watch out!" she heard a familiar voice.
Instantly, she bent her torso down. The man on her right was punched in the face with so much force he released her grip on her and stumbled into the marine on her left, both of them now on the ground.
She didn't even get enough time to process what was happening, something curling around her waist carefully, but so fast. A yelp left her lips when she realized she was being lifted off the ground, turning her head towards the source.
It was the straw hat's arm. He ate a devil fruit, didn't he?
He was on a boat that was sailing a few meters away in the sea and she was being pulled towards him. She also recognized the pirate hunter from earlier and a woman with orange hair, both of them far too relaxed for what was happening.
That guy was made of rubber!
She recognized Koby who just got to his feet after she got past him, her feet finally touching something solid again. She blinked confused at the straw hat.
"You can't bring everyone that you like on this ship," the swordsman let out a hopeless sigh.
She busted out laughing like a maniac, the colorful and rich sound filling the air. Her shoulders shook and she had to place her hand over her stomach, tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. Obviously, her reaction was met with an especially questionable look coming from the swordsman, who most probably thought he got on a ship with another insane human.
"You're insane, kid," she wiped the tears in her eyes with her fingers, still smiling widely.
She hasn't felt such relief in years.
"I guess I gotta fulfill a promise, right?"

âł When the application advertisement first flashed against your social media feed- you clicked past it very quickly before one of your friends was ushering you to apply. They had been working with the V's for a number of years now and produced a plethora a fan-favorite shows
âł When you application got accepted and you were being thrown into a suit for the interview, you were all the more thankful when the overlord themselves were not hosting yet the managers were. A more than few warning here and there- but that was with every job you worked in hell. You didn't work hard enough, you were better off dead- simply put.
âł You did not often see your boss in person after signing the contract with him day one. Only emailing him his schedule that was often cancelled mid-way through the day and you were running out of excuses for his clients
âł Velvette and Valentino were often more intimidating that Vox. You had gotten used to his tantrums, PR nightmares, and televised cancellations that were often fixed with a light bit of hypnotization that you could only roll your eyes at before going back to your emails
âł You would memorize his every need, knowing his favorite meals and coffee preferences, when he needed to recharge and even how to text exactly like him. You kept track of every social media handle that held his name, growing his followers while riffing on Alastor- an action that Vox dearly appreciated
âł As time would progress, you would become too good at your job. So much so that his other six assistants had all gotten fired for lack of polish as Vox excused it. Clinking his coffee mug to yours sat at your desk. He hardly used his own office these days, often taking calls at your computer as you sat on your desk- off to the side as you rearranged his schedule once again
âł You were starting to become his shadow and he always noticed when you were gone for a minute too long. He liked the reassurance your presence brought him- he enjoyed knowing that you would always know what to say in order to benefit the company and find ways for him not to interaction with people he disliked
âł Velvette and Valentino noticed this as well- how close you had gotten to their business partner without a second thought. Sometimes you would even show up in replacement for Vox when one of their branches had gone down once again and often times they wished it was you that addressed the problem rather than the man himself
âł When a reality show comes out, highlighting the lives of overlords all over the city including the three V's (mostly them though for PR that they desperately needed and had made multiple comments on). It did numbers and your friend from earlier could not have been happier getting that promotion to head producer of the show
âł You soon became a fan favorite for your witty comebacks at the TV head as he wold only smile in return- liking that you had the heart to knock him down a few pegs. The fans would stalk everyones social media profiles, liking each image that had you just cropped out of it
âł Vox had insisted that you were not to be seen in any of the media production- something about no wanting to corrupt your mind as well. You could only shake your head at this information- all you ever did was stare at screens all day, this comment made Vox's box go pink as his speech buffered. Taking a second to rethink your wording, your cheeks had appeared red while the cameras rolled and money starting pouring in
âł The fans demanded more attention put towards you, screaming at you from behind the barricades as you walked the corporate building each morning. "CAN I GET A PICTURE WITH YOU," "I SHIP IT," "WORK FOR ME INSTEAD." They started to shove one another over, trying to get your attention as your feet picked up pace
âł Vox had made his way through the wires and various security cameras settled around the neighbourhood. He wrapped an arm around your waist, ensuring that when the barricade fell and you were swarmed that you would not be dragged away with the crowd
âł You voiced your thanks once safely in the building as Vox announced a surprise for your recent good work- this was their most profitable quarter yet and you would have Velvette tailored work to wear each day. Picking up the various blue suits you eyed them suspiciously to those of your boss. Vox only shrugged his shoulders before taking a call
âł The dating allegation grew every week as blushed heavily at the headlines, Vox who now was only found in your office asked what was making you have such a reaction, even when he was in the middle of a meeting. You quickly hid your screen as he could only chuckle, sparking it back to life and projecting it on the monitor
âł "Oh, so THIS is what has you all red- me is it?" Vox states with pride, leaning over the table and into your personal space as your blush only grows down your neck. You take a sip of your now cold coffee, hiding a wince as you get back on track with answering Valentino back
âł When you arrive the next morning, dead flowers are found on your desk that make you chuckle, you read the note with a smile before handing the TV man his coffee for the morning, your chairs right beside one another as you work in tandum
âł Years into your work now, you barley find yourself going home, choosing to stick for the V's movie nights together that they insist on you being present for alongside finding it easier to let Vox know of scheduling changes last minute from within your shared apaprtment
âł After much demand, you and Vox have a one on one livestream interview for the public within your apartment, you both make small touches to one another, fixing his tie, he holds your knee, rubbing circles with his thumb- the fans are losing their shit as the other to V's sit back and rake in the cash
âł A question about your work ethic and sex-worker allegation gets read out by Velvette that has Vox glitching out with rage as you pull on the back of his jacket, urging him to calm down as you loop your arm in his, leaning into his side, "run that by me one more time, Velvette," Vox states with a twitch as you blink your eyes towards her- pleading that she does not.
âł After a particularly good corporate event, you find yourself in Vox's bed as he urges you not to leave, his voice is merely murmurs in your ear as you do not have the heart to roll away from. Soon these off hand-nights become a more common occurrence that as Valentino the slitest bit jealous at first, but when he surprises you in the mornings with a new package that got sent to the wrong apartment, he cannot help put wink at seeing the marks on your skin
âł You and Vox never made anything official, you were still his assistant of course- his assistant that he would always have a hand on a bit too low for public attention. A worker who was NOT allowed to be asked on a date by someone else. And the person he jumped to protect against the smallest threat but against your name
(PT.2) (PT.3)

Pathetic Leon pt. 3
Leon needed some action, and he needed it fast.
What else could explain why he was staring at you and only thinking about what reaction you would give if he snaked his hand forward and pulled down the front of your strapless top? It didn't look like you were wearing a bra, so he would definitely see your perky tits in all their glory. The thought made him salivate and immediately start to harden.
He's snapped out of his lustful daze when he hears you calling him, your hands perched on your hips. He wishes his hands were yours. "Leon! Did you hear anything I just said?" You asked, already knowing the answer was no.
Leon gave a sheepish smile, averting his eyes lest he started staring again. "Sorry sweetheart, i got work on the mind," working his cock into you, maybe. "What were you saying? Something about your dad?"
You rolled your eyes, taking his excuse for what it was without another thought. "My dad's kicking me out for the week, something about renovating or pipes bursting. I wasn't really listening. I was asking if i could stay with you. Your place is closer to my university, so I wouldn't have to worry about going too far out of my way for classes. Please?"
Leon physically felt his stomach churn at your ask, both in the good way and bad. You? Staying with him for a week? There were two ways this could go:
1. It goes completely smoothly, and he's able to control his impulses like a normal person would.
2. Shit hits the fan and he quite literally pounces on you.
He gives a nervous laugh, raising an eyebrow. "You want to stay with me? I'm not sure my mess of a bachelor's pad is really ideal living.." he notes the slight look of desperation on your face and sighs, dragging a hand down his face. "But if you really need a place for just a week, I guess I could help you out."
He sees the way you perk up instantly, practically jumping for joy as you hug him and thank him over and over again. He swallows as he feels the swell of your chest press up against his chest, his half hard cock instantly kicking into full gear.
He was most definitely going to regret this.

So, I'm not a prisoner?
masterlist part 1 part 2 part 3 extra
summary: you did not expect that your mission to take down the traitor, could end in such a difficult situation for youâŠ
pairing: Natasha x Red Room teen reader
warnings: fighting, weapons, stabbing, blood, implied sexual abuse
genre: fluff, angst
words: 3073
a/n: I wanted to do a fic like this for so long!!!! anyway, I just kept scouting tumblr trying to find fics like this, so I figured Iâd finally write one myself :)
You do not have my permission to repost, copy or translate my work
 |âââââââââââ ⎔ âââââââââââ|
A quick in and out. That was your mission. How on earth did you manage to screw it up so bad. In and out. Assassinate the traitor and come right back.Â
Dreykov wouldâve been so proud.Â
But that didnât happen. No. Every single aspect about that night failed to go according to plan. You snuck into the event Stark had hosted, was able to blend in with the other party goers, and you were able to hide when most of the people started to leave.Â
Once it was just the Avengers left, you stayed in your hiding spot, observing them. You were here to kill Natasha Romanoff, and Natasha Romanoff only.Â
You could not afford any casualties, so you had it all planned out.Â
Youâd wait until the Avengers would leave, and youâd take Natasha out before she could make it to her living quarters. You knew that once she made it to the living space of the Avengers tower, getting to her would be a lot harder.Â
However, against all odds, Natasha excused herself from the group quite early, saying she wanted to get a good nights sleep.Â
You internally cursed yourself, hating that this wasnât something that you had planned for.Â
Around the couches were still some Avengers sat. You recognised all of them. Clint Barton shouldnât be too much trouble. He was only a guy whoâs good with a bow. For Maria Hill could be said the same thing, except sheâs very skilled with a gun.
No, you were worried about the other Avengers still seated. Tony Stark could call upon his armour in mere seconds. Thor had the power of thunder for godâs sake. Wanda Maximoff has exceptional powers, and therefor, if you were to attack with her still in the room, youâd be immobilised in an instant.Â
You were fairly certain you didnât need to worry much about Bruce Banner. Sure, he could turn into the Hulk, but he didnât turn often, and lately, the Hulk hasnât been spotted in the battlefield, meaning he probably had many trouble turning into him.Â
Pietro Maximoff shouldnât bring you a lot of trouble either.Â
Your main concern were Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers. One Super Soldier you could handle, but two? While fighting the rest of the Avengers? That wasnât going to work.Â
Lucky for you, Wanda Maximoff had excused herself from the gathering a while ago. If you didnât make to much noise, she wouldnât be much of a problem. You could be outside before sheâd even make it to the party deck.Â
Your original plan was to just wait. Natasha Romanoff would have usually sat through a party until far into the evening. Youâd know, youâve been watching her for weeks.Â
However, now that Romanoff has announced she was returning to her bedroom, a slight panic ran through your body.Â
Dreykov gave your 5 weeks to finish this assignment. Thatâs longer than any assignment youâd ever been on. You could not disappoint him with this. You had to kill the traitor.Â
You figured now was your only chance, and so, as Natasha Romanoff made her way towards the elevator, you followed her.Â
However, not even to your surprise, she stopped in the middle of the hallway.Â
âYou know Iâm an assassin, too? Youâre good, but youâre not un noticeable,â she states, calmly turning around, being met with a gun to your face. The moment she stopped, you were wise enough to draw your gun, holding her at gunpoint for any sudden movements.Â
You could see a slight surprise appear on her face, before her face returned to her poker face once again.Â
âYouâre just a childâŠâ Natasha spoke slowly, seeming almost disappointed.Â
âYouâre a traitor,â you spoke, loading the gun, taking a step closer. Natasha simply shook her head. âIâm sorry,â she spoke, before leaping towards you. You shot your gun, but Natasha was too fast, avoiding your gunfire as she ran past you, back to the other Avengers.Â
How on earth could you have missed that shot? She was right there.
Pathetic.Â
You donât hesitate to run after her, determined to finish this tonight.Â
Very much not to your surprise, the moment you run back into the party hall, the Avengers are already standing up and ready. Ready to fight you.
You donât hesitate to move forwards, and after fighting Clint Barton for mere seconds, you quickly realise they have no intention of hurting you. You could use that to your advantage, and you do.
You kick Barton hard, leaving him on the floor, heaving for air as you move forward, taking on Maria.Â
However, the moment you get close to Maria, two strong arms wrap around your body, pulling you back. Theyâre holding you tightly, and it doesnât feel like theyâre planning to let go.Â
You struggle in the hold, fighting against who ever is holding you as you try to break free. A small panic runs through your body. The fear of being captured by the Avengers taking place in your mind. You do not fear the Avengers, but the thought of being seen as a traitor by Dreykov hurts your heart more than words could describe.Â
âStop struggling. We can help you,â you hear a voice behind you speak, and you soon come to realise the person youâre fighting is Captain America himself.Â
No wonder you couldnât get loose.Â
Knowing itâs a Super Soldier, youâre quick to outsmart him, making him think youâre getting tired, relaxing your body is his hold. Because of this, the Captain lightens his grip a bit, giving you enough room to wiggle your arm free, moving it backwards to hit him in the face with your elbow.Â
Because of the surprise, he lets you go, allowing you to stand again.Â
The moment your feet hit the ground, you dash forward, holding up your knife as you use everyoneâs shock to your advantage.Â
Everyone is surprised by your capability of escaping Steveâs grasp, not realising your already moving towards Natasha again. You reach her quickly, stabbing your knife into her stomach as far as it can go.Â
Natasha gasps, and you pull the knife out, watching as all the blood starts to seep from her stomach.Â
Slowly, Natasha sinks to the ground, Maria catching her, helping her down.Â
You move towards Natasha again, determined to get the job finished, but are quickly stopped by another pair of arms wrapping around your waist. You immediately recognise the metal arm, knowing that the Winter Soldier holds you in his grasp. You canât escape him. You never have.Â
He pulls you backwards, pushing you to the ground as he tries to punch you. However, you regain yourself quickly, rolling away from under him and kicking him in the face.Â
Suddenly, youâre moved across the room. You forgot the damn speedsterâŠ
You raise your knife quickly, stabbing him before he has a chance to make another move.Â
âPIETRO!â you hear a voice yell, and you turn your head to the right. Shit. Wanda Maximoff must have heard the commotion and went down to take a look. You have to get out of there. You will never win a fight with her.
You move quickly, running towards the stairs. However, before you could reach them, you felt a stabbing pain in your left shoulder, the sound of a gun shot following soon after. You had been shot. Bucky Barnes had shot you in an attempt to slow you down.Â
But you didnât let it.Â
Instead, you went towards the stairs a little quicker, dashing down the hundreds of flights of stairs to get to the main floor.Â
Of course, all SHIELD agents on the main floor were already expecting you, and you were followed by Steve Rogers, but you were quicker than him. You knew that.Â
You dashed past all the SHIELD agents, avoiding their gun fire as you made it towards an emergency exit.Â
The moment you stepped outside, you started your escape route. You already planned it, knowing exactly which way to go, no matter which way you would exit.Â
Steve followed you outside, but the moment he set foot outside the door, you were gone. You had disappeared into the night, leaving no trace.Â
-------------------------------------------------------------Â
Back in the Avengers tower, the team was recovering from your attack. Natasha was in bad shape. Your strike had been an attempt to murder her, and you didnât miss any organs as you pierced your blade through her abdomen.Â
Pietro was much better. He was back on his feet quickly, seeing as though you stabbing him hadnât been a murder attempt. You merely wanted to distract him.Â
It didnât take long for Natasha to get back on her feet either, even though she was advised to stay on bed rest after the surgery.Â
Natasha was determined to find you, and she quickly got to work.Â
Even though you had made it out of the Avengers tower quickly, you were still hurt, and some of you blood had fallen on the floor as you made your escape towards the stairs. Clint and Maria had collected that blood, running multiple tests, only to find out you were not registered anywhere.Â
There was no record of your existence. Were you just another ghost story?
What they did find were traces of the Super Soldier serum. However, they were modified, almost as if they were genetically a part of your system.Â
Did that mean you were just another Hydra experiment? Natasha did hear you calling her a traitor. That had to mean you knew Dreykov, right? Who else viewed her as a traitor. I would make sense. Sending a modified teenage assassin after her, knowing Natasha was above killing children.Â
Even in the Red Room, she always hesitated when sparring against the younger students.Â
Dreykov must have had a lot of faith in you to send you after her. Natasha can only hope youâre not a graduate yetâŠ
-------------------------------------------------------------
After the incident in the Avengers tower, you had fled to Germany. You figured it was best to leave the United States completely. And why would they ever search for you in Germany?Â
You had rented an apartment, loving the small town you had chosen. Dreykov had given you 5 weeks to finish the assignment, and now, you had only 1 week left. There is now way that youâre going to succeed in killing Natasha within the week.Â
They know you are after her now, and they will be prepared for you to make a return. You screwed it up.
Sloppy.Â
Right now, you were just heading back to your apartment. You had taken a walk, deciding to make the most out of the freedom you had in the moment. The week would be over soon, and the moment Dreykov would send for your return you are certain you will not be seeing daylight any time soon.Â
After you arrived in the apartment building, you instantly felt watched.Â
Had the Avengers found you?
You made your way up to your apartment, pushing the key into the lock and walking through the small hallway. Someone was in here, you could feel it.Â
You walked into the kitchen, grabbing a glass and filling it with water, keeping your back towards the living room.Â
âThere are not a lot of places to hide in this apartment,â you spoke aloud into the emptiness of the apartment. Soon you heard a set of footsteps, and you felt another presence enter the room.Â
âYouâre very skilled for your age,â you heard a voice behind you say, and you immediately recognised it as Natashaâs.Â
âAnd you are stronger than you look. I mean, even for you, I didnât expect you to be on your feet so quickly,â you stated, turning around slowly. Natasha wasnât holding a weapon in your face, something you were definitely expecting.Â
You scanned her quickly, seeing the weapons she held on her belt.Â
She didnât come unarmed. Good. Sheâd be stupid to.Â
âI donât mean you any harm,â Natasha said, taking a small step forward as she held her hands in the air, showing you her every movement.Â
You didnât look impressed, instead just staring at her as she moved.Â
âThen you are a fool,â you told her, and you spotted a small smirk flashing over Natashaâs face. âAnd you are very full of yourself,â she said, moving towards the kitchen island, leaning on it.Â
âI canât say I blame you. You took on a lot of the Avengers on your own. Even two Super Soldiers. Thatâs impressive,â she stated, giving you a small smile. You didnât return it.Â
âWhat? Jealous someone better took your place when you betrayed us,â you asked Natasha, determined to get on her nerves.
Natashaâs smile dropped quickly.Â
âQuite the opposite, actually. I hoped no one would ever have to go through it again,â she told you, a hint of regret almost identifiable in her expression. Now it was your time to give her a small smile.Â
âYou think youâre so important that everything shouldâve ended with you?â you asked her, moving towards the kitchen island as well, setting your glass down, still holding onto it.Â
Natasha shook her head.
âWhat I am curious about, however, is the genetic Super Soldier serum that runs through your DNA,â Natasha paused, adjusting her stance before speaking again. âTell me, was your dad a Super Soldier?âÂ
You let out a huff of amusement, surprising Natasha.Â
âYou think I believe youâre just here for a conversation? There are SHIELD agents placed on every corner of every street. Donât think I didnât notice it. The lovely young couple, drinking coffee at the restaurant downstairs? Amazing disguise, if you were trying to trick nine year olds,â you stated, finishing your glass of water.Â
Natasha smiles, clearly impressed with your observations.Â
âYouâre right. Iâm not here for just a conversation, although I do hope we can prevent violence,â Natasha started, but before she could continue you interrupted her.Â
âYouâre here to bring me in.âÂ
Natasha nodded, and the look on her face was almost apologetic.Â
âNo one needs to get hurt. If you just come with me, thereâs a big chance you could avoid confinement,â Natasha explained, yet you just scoffed and shook your head.Â
âAvoid confinement? Yeah right. There is no way, that after what I have done, your people wonât lock me away.âÂ
âI can be very persuasive,â Natasha simply replied.Â
There was a small silence. Natasha knew you were debating your options. You didnât seem like a brainwashed sheep. She knew that you knew better than trusting Dreykovâs lies. Sure, you still believed she was a traitor, but there is no way that you didnât see that what Dreykov is doing is wrong.Â
âYou know going back after a failed mission will result in punishment,â Natasha started, trying to get through to you. Trying to give you that little push you needed to go with her. âIf you go with me, youâll never be punished like that ever again,â she finished.Â
You looked up, deep in thought.
âHow could you be so sure?â you asked her, and Natasha didnât hesitate to respond.Â
âWe can keep you safe-â
âI found you. I nearly killed you. Whoâs to say some other Widow wonât come after me as well?â you replied, and Natasha gave you another small smile.Â
âI escaped the Red Room when I was 20,â Natasha started. âIt took him 12 years to send someone after me. We will make sure weâll take him down before he even has the chance to come after you.âÂ
âHow many times, did you try to kill him, exactly? Because I believe you attempted his murder twice already, both of which you failed. You blew him up in Budapest, and then another time when you took the air facility down. Do you honestly think youâll succeed now?â
Natasha shook her head, seemingly recollecting her thoughts.Â
âI failed twice, and that was sloppy, but both times I didnât have the Avengers on my side. You ran the moment you saw Wanda. You know what she is capable of. Taking down the Red Room for good shouldnât be too difficult with the Avengers on our side,â Natasha explained, yet you just shook your head.Â
âIâm not like you,â you told her, yet Natasha just looked at you in confusion.Â
âIâm not some disposable widow like you were. Iâm more important,â you explained, and Natasha gave you a sad smile.
âEveryone is just a disposable widow to him,â she started, but you interrupted her.Â
âIâm not. You tested my blood. You know I carry the Super Soldier serum. Iâm not just some girl he picked up from the streets,â you explained, and Natasha gave you a small nod, encouraging to keep going.Â
âI canât explain it, but he wonât just let me walk. He put too much time in my creation. He would never just let it go to waste,â you finished, looking down, avoiding Natashaâs gaze as you turned around, putting your glass by the sink.Â
âWeâll help you. I know that we can,â Natasha tried.Â
âIs it worth the risk? My life is not great, but itâs not terrible either. Dreykov values me, and I am not treated like a piece of meat, unlike you might suspect.âÂ
âSo the punishment is worth it, then? Knowing that in three days time, Dreykov will have you be recollected, and once you return to the Red Room, youâll be punished severely for a failed mission,â Natasha paused, allowing you to let her words sink in.Â
âOr, in three days time, you could know you can go to bed without worrying about someone joining. You could know you can be safe, and sleep through the night without anyone disrupting you. Knowing that, is the choice really that hard?â Natasha finished, and you were almost at your breaking point.Â
Was it worth it? Was going back the best decision? Dreykov would hurt you, you knew that, but you deserved it. Didnât you?Â
âPlease, just come with me. We can help,â Natasha spoke, nearly begged.Â
You sighed deeply.Â
âFine, but if you put me in a cell, I will go on a murder streak,â you told her, and Natasha let out a chuckle, before seeing your facial expression, and realising you were dead serious.Â
âDuly noted,â Natasha said, before motioning you towards the door.Â
What had you doneâŠ

â§Â°ă âWaiting on the Stars â°â§
+:ïœĄ.ïœĄăteen Stanford Pines x gn readerăïœĄ.ïœĄ:+
Part 3 is here y'all!! I'm tempted to keep a majority of the story in Ford's POV. Let me know what y'all think! warnings : strong language, suggestive language, the usual teen shit pt.1 pt.2 pt.3
1972 What happens when Ford's chance to ask you out is right in front of him? Will he grab it and run? Or will his time run out?
â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«â«
Ford's POV
"Hello?"
What do I say? God their voice is so pretty. Do I hang up? No that's creepy.
Thoughts race through my head. Fear and anger crashes over my body like waves. Finally the reality hits, I need to say something.
"H-Hi (Y/N)?" I stutter out finally.
"Ford? Hey! How'd you get my number?" Their voice rings in my ears as a blush raises throughout my face.
"Stan. He saw you left your notebook in class today and let me call to tell you..I promise I didn't look through it at all! Just your..number." I feel myself mentally cringing at how creepy all of this could sound.
"Oh shit. I didn't even notice! Thank you!" They laugh and thank me, I feel my heart begin to beat faster. Not out of fear or anxiety, but of something else.
"Oh it's nothing! Just..buddies looking out for each other...not assuming we are buds or anything! Just a phrase..yeah phrase." I say and look up seeing Stan shaking his head and laughing. A silent glare is directed at him.
"Of course we are! Looking out for each other. Speaking of which, um would you like to meet up sometime this weekend so I can get it back? Not like a date or anything." I hear their voice quiet down at the last part. My heart tightens up and my stomach drops.
"SO like a date?! Oh he would LOVE to honey! I'll make sure he dresses all fancy for ya. Flowers and all! I like you already! He will pick you up tomorrow at 7 alright?" My mother's voice rings out through the line. I turn around towards the living room and see her sitting in her usual chair with the phone in her hands. She looks up at me and blows a kiss before getting up and walking away like she didn't just say the words I have been so scared to say out loud so nonchalantly. Oh God please let the floor open up and just swallow me whole.
"A date!? Oh! Um if Ford wants it to be a date..then yeah." I hear (Y/N) say into the phone.
"Excuse her! I am so sorry! I..is a date alright? Don't feel pressured to say yes at all! It is completely understandable if not." I cover my face with my free hand and quietly say into the speaker.
"I would love a date with you Ford..." I hear them speaking but after those 8 words leave their mouth I can't focus on anything else but my heart beating faster than it ever has. This can't be real. I am going on a date with them. An actual date. With the prettiest person to ever step foot into this town!? Oh stars what if I mess this up? I feel myself start to lose my mind to worries and anxiety. Tuning out everything except my own voice.
"Do I need to tell you the address again Fordsy?" I hear their laughter I have come to love so much, slowly bring me back into reality.
"Shoot! Um sorry yeah. Wait let me get a ink pen," I run around the kitchen finding something to write it down, "Okay continue please."
Writing down every number and word they say, brings this entire thing to reality. I am going on my first date ever. Do they know this is my first date? What do they even like? Where do I acquire flowers for a date?!
"So..tomorrow at 7?" A smile coats their voice so sweetly I can't help but smile back as if they can see it.
"Yes. Tomorrow at 7. I will..see you there!" With that we say our goodbyes and hang up. Finally a steady breath finds my lungs and fills them up.
"See!? Wasn't that hard Sixer. Just needed a push." Looking up I see my brother and my ma giving each other a high five. Rolling my eyes, I watch as ma goes to look for a suit that will fit me. Stan looks at me and tells me I can use his cologne that "all the ladies love it on me, surely it can help you". I can't help but smile a little. Silently thanking them for the help. I slowly walk to my room and find myself laying in the bed I have spent countless night dreaming. Dreaming of how I can ask them out, maybe the stars heard me? If I ever visit the stars, I will have to thank them. A big smile finds its way to my face. Maybe everything will be okay.
The next few hours are spent with Ford's eyes wide open. Imagining everything that could happen. Many thoughts circle the Young man's head. 'The possibility of this date going completely perfect is slim to none' , 'What do we do?' , 'I have to impress them. make them want to do this date thing again'. Ford slowly drifts off to sleep imagining the chances of this working out. Stan creeps into the room and smiles at the twin asleep cuddling against a pillow. A smile on the older Pines brother, bigger than Stan has ever seen on the usual stoic and serious face.

Ahh! Chapter 3! Sorry for the shorter chapter! Didn't want to put the date and the phone call all in one. Gotta stretch it out wink wink. I hope you all are as excited as I am for the date.
