I NEED PART TWO OF THE MARVEL CAST FLIRTING WITH Y/N L/N!
. . . MARVEL CAST FLIRTING WITH Y/N Y/L/N FOR 10 MINUTES STRAIGHT! (part2)
You cackled to yourself after sending the message into your groupchat, quickly returning to the video and beginning to play it again, occasional bursts of giggles slipping through your lips.
Resuming your place in the video—the first clip that began playing was actually from not that long ago at all. It was You, Kat Dennings, Elizabeth Olsen and Zendaya at Taylor Swifts Eras Tour (an experience you would genuinely never forget). Taylor was playing Lover and, in the clip, Kat had your face in one hand and the other wrapped around your waist, bringing you close to her body.
“Lover, can I go where you go—“ Kat sang with Taylor, singing all the lyrics to you and grinning at you, faces inches away from each other. “—Can we always be this close.” She punctuated this lyric with giving you an eskimo kiss.
You smiled sincerely at the memory.
The next clip began up, it was you and Chris Evans doing Playground Insults with BBC Radio 1: the two of you were sat opposite each other, knees touching, Chris was grinning goofily at you, giddy laughs escaping him as you tried to remain straight faced.
“—we’re here with Chris Evans and Y/N Y/L/N.” The presenters introduced.
“And we’re about to play Playground Insults . . Now Chris and Y/N are sat opposite each other,” the camera cut to you and Chris, him smiling largely and you looking away to contain your own, “the atmosphere is very tense.”
“We’ve done this quite a few times now but im thinking.. this is the biggest movie of the year, let’s make this the biggest playground insults we’ve ever done.”
“Yep.” Chris nodded, trying not to laugh.
“Chris, hun. . you’re ugly. Like, plain ugly.” You nodded seriously, immediately setting off as you feigned a pained wince to the words. “Everyone’s been talking about it. . just, you’re so atrocious to look at. Honestly, I almost feel arse over tits in horror when I saw you.”
Chris opened his mouth to say something but then faltered and pouted, “no matter how good of an actor I am, I could never even get those words out my mouth about you and make them sound genuine. Seriously.”
The third clip started—it was Chris Hemsworth on a carpet, a bold colourful question at the bottom said ‘WHO HAS THE MOST FANS?’. Chris immediately said, “Y/n.” In that deep Australian accent of his. “Not that I blame the people from choosing her to be the people’s queen, she is truly one of a kind. You’ll only ever meet one Y/n in your lifetime, cherish it. The fans have the right idea.”
It changed to Scarlett with the same colourful question at screen and at the same carpet event: “Oh, Yeah. Y/n, one hundred percent.” She chuckled huskily. “That woman has fans upon fans and seriously, I’m one of them. She is something else.” She grinned, winking at the camera.
After Scarlett, Paul Rudd came onto your screen in the very same clip. “Oh! The legend herself, Y/N Y/L/N.” Paul answered brightly, smiling. “The amount of fans she has is unbelievable—well, it’s definitely believable for someone like her, so, not really unbelievable..”
The forth clip began—it was you all playing Family Feud with Jimmy Kimmel, on his live show. Sebastian and RDJ were currently facing off; Jimmy posed the question “what, other than the sun, are some of the hottest things to exist?”
Sebastian got to the buzzer faster than Robert managed to and didn’t even falter or hesitate as he answered straight away, “Y/N Y/L/N.”
The audience immediately screamed laughed and shrieked in delight, RDJ just nodded his head in understanding and appreciation, clapping his hands. Chris Evans, Mark and Anthony on the other side all looked amused but ultimately accepting (Chris was nodding along almost subconsciously). You were on the other team, looking heavenward with a faint exasperated grin and Scarlet wrapped her arm around your waist, Chris Hemsworth smirking at you both.
The fifth clip started up: it was a behind the scenes shot from Endgame, the big final battle. You were currently in the middle of doing your own stunt, green screen behind you and harnesses strapped to you as you dangled at a halfway point in the air. Your arms and hands were positioned in such a way to show your character manipulating her powers—the position also very much enhanced your chest, with the added help of your superhero attire. You looked hot, even you could admit.
The camera mirthfully panned to some of the rest of the cast who all stood aside while you filmed your scene—said cast being Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Gwyneth Paltrow, RDJ, Elizabeth Olsen and Tessa Thompson. All of their eyes were fixated on you, Robert was the only one grinning in amusement (and awe) while all the others stared at you as though you hung the sun yourself.
“Boobies.” Lizzie giggled faintly, her eyes stuck. The rest of the cast watching dumbly nodded while the crew cracked up behind the cameras.
And if you screenshotted their dumbfounded faces looking ip at on screen you. . well that was your business.
The clip changed. It was now Karen Gillan being interviewed on some carpet event, looking genuinely breathtaking. The interviewer was asking, “—obviously, your friend and co-star Y/N Y/L/N has been in lots of iconic movies. . what is your favourite scene of hers in The Wolf of Wall Street?”
Karen paused with a cheeky little smile, giving the interviewer a a jokingly incredulous look. “Come on.” She simply said. “It’s a bloody no brainer, I’m certain it was Leonardo’s favourite scene too. . I hope it is anyway otherwise he’s a silly, silly man.”
At the same carpet event with the same interviewer, Chris Hemsworth was being interviewed—his wife, Elsa, on his arm and looking half ready to battle off any rude interviewers (queen).
“—what is your favourite scene of hers in Ocean’s 8?”
“All of them!” Elsa answered eagerly, grinning. “Her outfits really accentuated her personality and I enjoyed them very much so. Particularly her outfit for the gala. . the amount of accentuated personality, by gosh, it had me speechless.”
Chris turned her head, obviously trying not to laugh at his wife.
“Nunca he estado más celoso y agradecido por la ropa en mi vida.” Elsa hummed.
You blinked.
The clip changed to you, Sebastian, Lizzie, Paul, Jeremy and Jimmy all on his Tonight Show playing Musical Beers. The slightly unnerving music/beat played in the background while you all stalked around the circle, Paul and Jeremy already out—leaving you, Seb, Lizzie and Jimmy.
As you were all racing around the circular table, Lizzie very obviously swatted your ass and you were impressed with your own body as you watched that impact: the audience erupted into laughs and shrieks, Jimmy playfully covering his eyes as Seb smirked. You thought that would be the end of the clip, but no.
The very disco-esk tune briefly cut out and past time you thought that meant it stopped completely and you’d already reached for the red cup in front of you and chugged it’s contents, only to pause as the music began back up.
“Spit it back! Spit it back!”
You did just that—but when the music actually stopped and Seb was left standing in front of the cup with your (let’s not go there) in it, your mouth popped open in shock. Jeremy gladly backed away from the table in hysterics, Lizzie and Jimmy equally as amused.
“Oh my god, I am—“
Sebastian quickly downed the cup with. . those contents, not even looking all that perturbed.
“So sorry.” You finished, mouth agape.
You vaguely remembered a conversation you’d had with him after the show, sincerely and repeatedly apologising and he was just very, very amused with you. He didn’t seem to mind at all—what an odd man.
“It’s all good.” Sebastian chuckled lowly, wrapping the mortified looking past you in a one armed shoulder hug and squeezing you to him. Lizzie seemed to be trying to trade a very obvious eye message with you—the audience shrieked and screamed in the background.
Another clip began: its was you and Scarlett Johansson doing a trust fall thing, you thought (correctly).
“Scarlett I swear. .” You giggled, looking over your shoulder at the woman behind you—she grinned back at you amusedly, her eyes twinkling.
“Calm down.” She laughed herself. “I’ll catch you don’t worry, gorgeous.”
Still slightly overcome with nervous giggles, you turned and let out a breath as you shut your eyes before holding at your arms and falling back.
And catch you she definitely did—although her hands didn’t exactly land in a PG-13 area, you cackled as you watched her hands grope at your chest to pull you up. In the video, you were also wheezing as were the crew and Scarlett had a cheeky little smirk as she laughed.
When you were finally standing, she gave one last squeeze before finally letting go—on screen you was breathless with giggles.
“Always wanted to do that.” She shrugged simply with a large amused smile.
The next clip began—it was Zendaya and Tom Holland on LADBible, playing that how much do you agree or not game. The statement said was ‘Y/N Y/L/N is everyone‘s celebrity crush’.
Instantly, Tom and Zendaya moved their cups to strongly agree, both of them nodding in solid agreement with the statement: presently, you awed at your friends, ego very much boosted. Well. To be fair, all of this video was massively boosting your ego.
“I mean, come on.” Zendaya made a ‘duh’ face and shrugged her shoulders.
“It’s Y/N.” Tom smiled crookedly, adding onto her comment.
“I am so happy I get to now say that she’s one of my closest friends.” Zendaya beamed genuinely. “She’s—one of those people whose beauty isn’t just an external thing, she’s so lovely man.” She pouted, in awe of you.
Watching the video, you beamed back at her.
The clip changed: Mark Ruffalo was on the Graham Norton show, next to Nicki Minaj and an actor you couldn’t place.
“Who would you say your favourite co-star has ever been, Mark?” Graham inquired.
“I—i would probably have to go with Y/N—“ The crowd instantly erupted into cheers and yells and Nicki smiled next to him, stating that she loved you under the sound of cheering. Mark grinned back at her, mumbling ‘me too’.
“Yeah, she’s a hell of an actress, that one. So easy to work with. Funny as f—hell, she’s just—an extremely genuine and kind person, and she really brings the energy on set.” Mark grinned. “..she’s also the only free pass my wife has ever given me. Which I won’t be using! Because I don’t believe in cheating, it’s scummy! Even though she’s gorgeous—anyone would be lucky!” He had to rise to a shout at the end as the audience erupted.
Nicki giggled next to him, “me personally, I would use that pass.”
You gasped in laughter as you watched the screen, screen-recording it all so you could go back and watch it. Saving it to your folder titled PISSING MY PANTS HRLP
The clip changed yet again, showing a scene from the Winter Solider BTS. You and Sebastian were filming a scene where he had to shoot your character—you watched the ‘Winter Solider’ shoot your character multiple times making you go down with an agonised yell, crawling away from him.
As soon as CUT was yelled, Sebastian’s face dropped from his stone cold (wintery) expression and he raced to you, crouching next to you. He practically tugged you into his lap on the floor, holding you.
“Oh my fuck that—that just felt so real, Y/n. You know I would never hurt you right?” He asked, blinking repeatedly before a small smirk fell on his lips. “You’re way too pretty to injure doll. Can’t ruin your perfect face.”
On screen you huffed in mock anger, hiding an amused grin as you shoved at him—he still held you close to him though, so both of you fell backwards and burst into giggles.
You literally thought ‘I ship them’ as you watched the clip of Sebastian and yourself, forgetting that was you for a moment.
Another clip started up—another behind the scenes. It was you and Tom Hiddleston in Thor : Ragnarok. In the scene Loki was tied down to the chair and your character was meant to intimidate him—you watched yourself take out your character’s daggers and lean forward into his space. One leg leaned up on top of the arm of the chair, sliding one dagger just a hair above the skin of his neck while using the over the move his chin up to be angled to you as you mockingly smiled down at him.
You said your line as your character but Tom remained silent, mouth parted and eyes widened as he gazed up at you—speech failing him. (You knew that they actually decided to include this awestruck look in the movie—the amount of fucking edits you’d seen was unreal).
Eyebrows crinkling you nudged your knee into his chest and he snapped out of it, grabbing your knee in a gentle grip. “Sorry darling, words sometimes seem to fail me in your presence.” He muttered rather hoarsely, still staring up at you.
“I don’t fucking blame him.” Tessa Thompson murmured from behind you both, and the camera moved to show her staring at you in a similar awe.
Present time, you could barely hide your smirk. Literally the biggest ego boost. Of all time.
Again, the clip changed and it was now Natalie Portman looking gorgeous on a carpet event, being interviewed—“if you could have Jane explore another romance than Thor, who would it be and why?”
“Y/N!” Natalia enthused immediately. “Well—her character, but like. Both. Either. One for me, one for Jane. That—would be great. And why? Come on! She’s an absolutely beautiful woman, inside and out. She has this outward glow that you literally cannot and don’t want to look away from and that reflects so much in her personality—once you’ve interacted with her one time, you never want to stop. Ever. I’m not kidding.” She giggled.
Another clip started up quickly—a blooper of you and Chris Evans. In this scene, your characters were meant to kiss after an angsty, angry argument. You stormed into the frame, into the bedroom, completely in character—an angry expression on and ready to go at Steve.
Before you could even let out a single syllable to begin your lines, Chris immediately surged forward and took your face in his hands, kissing the living daylights out of you.
You both pulled back after a bit and you just started at him, questioningly (that kiss was probably one of your best ever, let it be known, Chris Evans was a fantastic kisser).
“I—I thought It’d be good for the scene. .” Chris trailed off bashfully, scratching the base of his neck, literally pulling the excuse out of his arse. In actuality, he hadn’t wanted to spare a moment of the scene where he could be kissing you, well, not doing so.
“Bull!” Scarlett exclaimed as she materialised in the doorway. “He just wanted to kiss you.” She told you, pointedly looking at the man.
“Yeah—i—“ He huffed a defeated sigh, pink-cheeked. “I’ve got nothing. She’s right.”
In hindsight, you thought to yourself, you should probably stop being so shocked when the fanbase starts shipping you with your costars.
The clip changed: now it was you, Elizabeth and Aaron on a carpet event together—all being interviewed at the same time.
“So, Y/n, how does it feel to be in a Maximoff twin sandwich right now?” The interviewer giggled happily, smiling.
Before you could open you’re mouth—“we’re really enjoying it.” Lizzie and Aaron replied at the same time.
The interview gaped and you simply rolled your eyes as the two smirked at either side of you, they’d been talking in sync ever since you’d first met them at the table reading.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t why?” Aaron grinned crookedly. “A beautiful, lovely woman in between us. Honestly, love, there’s not a thought in my head besides you.” He joked, throwing an arm over your shoulder.
“I completely support that.” Lizzie chirped in, “ever since I’ve met this gorgeous lady who i now acknowledge as my partner in everything—she’s taken up all of the room in my brain, and I couldn’t be happier.” She giggled, putting her arm around your waist.
In the middle of them both, with an arm over your shoulder and one around your waist—you simply sighed, sparing the giddy interviewer an exaggerated suffering expression.
Again, the clip switched—it was now another blooper of you in the Iron Man movie, the scene where you handed Tony’s arse to him in the boxing ring. Instead of acting as scripted, Gwen Paltrow got up from her seat and strode over to the boxing ring, stepping inside gracefully and planting one right on your lips.
Presently, you giggled as you thought back to this moment. Gwen was your impulsive queen. Your idol.
From the floor, RDJ squawked in shock, exclaiming about being cheated and betrayed and Gwen flung her stiletto off her foot at him without moving from your lips.
When she finally did, she simply smiled at you kindly, “you just looked so good that I couldn’t not kiss you, sweets.” She shrugged and you, on screen, laughed at her as you leaned back in to kiss her cheek.
(Unfortunately the scene was not included in the movie—but Gwen never wasted an opportunity to talk about it, and you, if the chance arose).
The clip moved onto another one—back to the Thor : Ragnarok movie, you and Heimdall were fighting together, however you missed a step in your stunt and ended up stumbling. Idris immediately caught you with a steady arm around your waist, full you to him so you could stabilise yourself.
You smiled up at him thankfully, squeezing his arm in gratitude (totally not because you’d just wanted to feel his bicep).
You watched as your on screen self get distracted again and Idris murmured to Tom who’d now appeared next to him, “I feel like it’s dishonourable how much I want her to fall so I can catch her again now.”
“Mate, trust me,” Tom laughed, “I completely understand. But she doesn’t need the rescuing.”
“That she does not.” Both men smiled fondly as they watched you.
Presently, you were actively refusing to blush.
A different clip started up—Florence Pugh was being interviewed, looking breathtaking in her green dress. “—did you take anything from set?” The interviewer was asking, smiling at Florence.
“Um—not much, just Y/n’s heart.” Florence immediately cracked up at her own joke, smiling widely. “And her underwear too.” She added.
The interviewer opened her mouth to say something more, giggling at Florence as she continued speaking: “and before you ask, no. I wouldn’t be selling, for any price. Finders keepers and all that shite—plus, she’s my girl, so. That rule applies even more so. No one else can take her heart. Or her pants.”
Watching your friend, you giggled at her cheesy smile at her words before getting distracted by your group chat, where multiple of your friends and co-starts had seen your message and were now responding. Your laughter increased tenfold as you opened the thread.

*throws badly drawn mutated part leviathan goobers at you* here have this chaoticness
oh and this is unrelated but I think on another post you made, you mentioned that people will say nasty fearmongering stuff abt most sea creatures and now I’m kinda curious, like who‘s scared of starfish, manatees, etc? Why would you say something nasty about idk seahorses?
THEMBBB SILLY SILLY SILLY
okay about the question below. you'd be pretty damn surprised
to be fair i havent heard anything about seahorses, in fact i'm the one saying that stuff about them because they're bad and awful and objectively the worst fish but thats a rant for another day. but seriously i have seen people say the most uncalled for shit about literally everything i can think of. here's a highlight reel:
ex-stepfather of mine is afraid of being swallowed by whales and whale sharks. whale sharks do not have throats
people at the aquarium i volunteer at have asked me if the BAT RAYS will BITE THEM (they are technically capable but if you manage to get bitten by the docile raised-in-captivity bat rays that a very prestigious aquarium in a very large city lets 3 year olds touch, i'm sorry i'm leaving you in the touch tank to bleed out)
people have been too afraid of the epaulette sharks in the shallow water exhibit to get close. the picture attached is an epaulette shark; they are 3 feet long. the glass is a solid 4 inches thick btw
technically not an ocean animal but the mere fact that people still believe the candiru catfish urban legend speaks volumes
i shit you not i almost got into an armed brawl with an elderly australian woman in fiji because she was ranting about how much she hated sharks so much that i deadpan responded with "so do they eat people or just australians"
people on the whale watching tours ive been on have been afraid of whales sinking the boat
people on diving trips i've been on have been afraid of the coral stinging them
those same people were afraid of jellyfish stinging them through their fullbody wetsuits
one of the guys i was diving with in monterey freaked out and swam backwards because he saw a siphonophore (completely harmless communal organism) and didn't know what it was
i've gotten WAY MORE those are just my personal favorites

Elvis: The Musical- a review by Lauren Avila
It would seem that the public has a renewed Burnin’ Love for Elvis Presley, without an end in sight. Between the recent Netflix premiere of “Agent Elvis,” Baz Luhrmann’s Oscar-nominated film “Elvis,” and ongoing tourism at Graceland, there is an unquenchable thirst for the King of Rock n’ Roll. Now there is a new way to enjoy the legend and his music. Elvis: The Musical made its West Coast premiere this month and has enjoyed a completely sold out run! The bad news is that the curtain will come down in California very soon. However, this same version will be making its Australian debut later this year!
I managed to get a ticket to a daytime performance where, even in the middle of the day, people flocked to the East Sonora Theater to see Elvis in the building. This show tells the rise of the “kid that changed the world.” Playing the man, the myth, and the legend was Taylor Rodriguez. This was not the first time walking a mile in the blue suede shoes for this performer though. According to his credits, he “has had the honor of performing in many musical productions including the Million Dollar Quartet where he starred as Elvis Presley. In 2017 he was named One of the Top 5 Elvis Tribute Artist in the world. In June of 2019, he was crowned the 2019 Tupelo Elvis Festival Champion. Recently, Taylor Rodriguez was named The 2019 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Champion by Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE).” As you might expect from an introduction like that, Taylor really captures the voice and the moves of Elvis.
The story begins with a nervous Elvis, waiting to go onstage for his career-changing, 68’ Comeback Special. He faces his younger self, in the form of an adorable 11-year old actor named Asher Berg. Kid Elvis asks him, “What are you doing?” In the midst of this self-reflection, the audience embarks on a journey throughout the life of both young Elvis and Elvis, the icon. The show was comprised of a very strong supporting cast! Personally, I’ve seen Broadway shows, touring companies, regional productions, and community theater. I have found that many times the supporting cast can make or break a show. In this case, they truly contributed to an entertaining afternoon. Major standouts include Christopher Michael, Elizabeth Harlen, Olivia Marie Jones, Sage Spiker, Taylor Tveten, and Dedrick Weathersby. They had the kind of stage presence that made you pay attention to them. Perhaps it was a million watt smile, the passion of a southern Reverend, the excitement of a radio DJ in the 50’s, the corniness of a tv announcer in the 60’s, or even a lovestruck Priscilla.
The book comes from Sean Cercone and David Abbinanti who were wise enough to include all the major players in Elvis’ life, the hits you want to hear, and lines that make you think and feel. I really enjoyed the Jersey Boys-like template that many shows tend to follow these days. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? There were poignant moments of heartbreak, light-hearted points of humor that sparked genuine laughter, and even audience interaction that only an Elvis show could truly justify.
Spoiler warning: My favorite parts included the build up to “That’s Alright,” the interaction of Elvis with the front row during his appearance on The Frank Sinatra Show, the compilation of Elvis making his movies, and all the scenes of Kid Elvis and Adult Elvis.
Considering that this show was put on by a local theater company, I was impressed by the visuals. The set was a modest bi-level stage, encompassed by a Vegas-like semi-circle opening. Vinyl records were mounted to the walls on either side of the stage too. The stage’s projection screen added an immersive element, from spinning records to playing background for Elvis’s movies. The band was present onstage throughout, very convenient since they also doubled as Elvis’ actual bandmates. Unfortunately, power outage problems did occur several times but once again I must commend these professionals for not missing a beat. Strange things are, in fact, happening every day!
I must conclude by highlighting Taylor’s performance. Both his speaking and singing voice were very similar to the hip-swinging musician we all know and love. He accompanied himself on guitar. He pulled off all the moves that history has tied to Elvis. He convinced the audience enough of his character that the women were swooning over him by the time he was interacting with (and kissing) them.
All that said, I will say that the show itself may need to be shook up a bit before hitting the stage again. My biggest problem is that there were hardly any solutions for each storyline and character introduced. If you’re looking for trouble, you may find it in the structure of this show. I came out of it feeling like I was missing something. I believe though, with all the potential that Elvis: The Musical has, it can be a hit. Check out this preview below:

Rock legend Malcolm Mitchell Young was born on January 6th 1953 in Glasgow.
The whole Young family emigrated to Sydney, Australia in the early Sixties and it was there he initially made his name with his older brother George, who found global fame thanks to his band the Easybeats, although not part of the group he was always around the fringes, their father made sure Malcolm didn't get carried away though, finding him work as a mechanic in a factory after leaving school at 15.
In 1973, Malcolm recruited Angus to form a new band, which the brothers named after the “AC/DC” electrical current marker they spotted on their sister’s sewing machine. After a few line-up changes, the Young brothers were introduced to fellow Scots born singer, Bon Scott by their brother George, who would serve as AC/DC’s producer on their early albums.
Malcolm and Angus Young served as the band’s main creative force, of the band, crafting the unmistakable riffs that would make AC/DC one of the biggest bands in music. Together, the brothers would create the music for hits like Back in Black Hells Bells, Highway to Hell, Thunderstruck, For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), You Shook Me All Night Long and dozens more rock staples.
However, Malcolm’s time in AC/DC was not without strife: A heavy drinker, he briefly left AC/DC in 1988 during the Blow Up Your Video Tour to go to rehab to curb his drinking problem. After a few months, Malcolm returned to the band and remained sober. “I was not surprised,” George Young said of his younger brother’s sobriety. “When Malcolm puts his mind to something, he does it.”
The Young brothers and AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. With over 110 million albums sold, AC/DC is also the best-selling Australian act of all time.
When Rolling Stone asked the Young brothers in 2008, Who runs AC/DC?,” Malcolm replied, “We both do, because we were there from the start.”
Malcolm Young died at the age of 64 in November 2017, he had been suffering with dementia for three years, an illness that forced his retirement from AC/DC around 2014.
They may have found fame in Australia but Malcolm and his brother Angus were always Scottish at heart as seen in the video I have posted of them performing Fling Thing/Rocker with, the 1978 Scottish football strips on and starting off with playing Loch Lomond on the guitar, great stuff.

NITA STRAUSS On Her Upcoming Solo Album: 'I've Grown A Lot As An Artist And Songwriter'
Former Alice Cooper and current Demi Lovato guitarist Nita Strauss spoke to Guitar World magazine about her upcoming second solo album, to be released later this year via Sumerian Records. She said: "I'm a really emotional musician and person, and I write about what I'm feeling and what's going on in my life. Making this album, and especially doing a lot of the writing during 2020, when everything was shut down and uncertain, brought out a lot of emotion in my songwriting.
"I've grown a lot as an artist and songwriter since [my debut solo album] 'Controlled Chaos' came out in 2018, and I'm excited to show a higher level of playing and more depth and maturity in these new songs. I've improved a lot as a musician, my technique has gotten better in the last four years, and I've gotten more comfortable in my own style, so I feel I've come into my own as a guitar player."
Last October, Nita dropped a new single and accompanying music video, "The Wolf You Feed", featuring the vocal talent of Alissa White-Gluz of ARCH ENEMY. The lyrics of this song were inspired by "The Story Of The Two Wolves", a legend widely attributed to Native American storytellers. An old grandfather was teaching his grandson about life: "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil — he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued: "The other is good — he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf will win?" The grandfather simply replied: "The one you feed."
"The Wolf You Feed" was the second song Nita had released featuring a star guest vocalist, the first being the enormously successful "Dead Inside" which featured guest vocals from DISTURBED's David Draiman and saw Nita become the first ever solo female to have a No. 1 hit at Active Rock radio. She also returned to her instrumental roots earlier last year with the release of single "Summer Storm".
Nita made her live debut with Demi in July 2022 with a performance of Lovato's single "Substance" on ABC's Emmy Award-winning late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".
Strauss had been playing with Cooper since 2014 when she replaced Australian musician and former Michael Jackson player Orianthi. She joined Alice in time for a mammoth MÖTLEY CRÜE tour. She was recommended to Cooper by the legendary rocker's former bass player and WINGER frontman Kip Winger.
Back in February 2022, Nita told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" about her upcoming LP: "It's gonna be half and half — six tracks with vocalists and six tracks of instrumental [music]. We've been doing ['Dead Inside'] live on the solo tour and it's been getting a super-good reaction from our crowds."
In early December 2021, Nita told "The Mistress Carrie Podcast" about her decision to make the upcoming LP half vocal songs and half instrumental: "I did feel, and the label and everybody agreed, it's still important for me to keep my identity as a guitar player and not just branch off too much and go, 'Okay, well, now it's just guests.' Let me still have a little of what makes me me, which is the instrumental shred stuff. And the instrumental pieces that I've written on this record are, I think, better than anything I did on the first one — definitely more… I don't know if it could be more emotional but they're very emotional pieces of music and I think a little better crafted this time around. So I think all the songs in general are more well thought out, better put together this time around. And I do have some of my absolute favorite [singers guesting on it]. I have three amazing powerhouse female vocalists on this album so far."
Nita released "Controlled Chaos" to mass acclaim from fans and media alike, with Metal Injection calling it "a great debut that — as its creator intended — leaves no doubt", and Guitar World stating "'Controlled Chaos' is a panoramic view of Nita Strauss's many strengths".
As well as performing with Cooper, Nita has also played with R&B star Jermaine Jackson, early MTV darlings FEMME FATALE, video game supergroup CRITICAL HIT and popular tribute band THE IRON MAIDENS.
In April 2020, Nita launched "Rock Guitar Fundamentals" — a three-module online guitar teaching program suitable for learners of all levels. The course is available at www.iwanttoplayguitar.com.

Roger Federer: The G.O.A.T
Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis legend, is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Federer has won over fans all over the world and made a lasting impression on the sport with his refined technique, outstanding shot-making talent, and exceptional sportsmanship. Federer's path has been nothing short of spectacular, starting with his early days as a talented junior player and ending with his dominance of the professional circuit. He was ranked world No. 1 for 310 weeks, including a record 237 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. He won 103 singles titles on the ATP Tour, the second most of all time, including 20 major men's singles titles, a record eight men's singles Wimbledon titles, an Open Era joint-record five men's singles US Open titles, and a joint-record six year-end championships. In his home country, he is regarded as "the greatest and most successful" Swiss sportsperson in history.
Federer won his first ATP championship in Milan in 2001, a milestone that would be followed by many more. His playing style, characterized by a fluid and graceful technique, brought a breath of fresh air to the game. Federer was a delight to watch because of his fluid movement, exquisite shot placement, and impeccable timing. One of his defining strokes was his one-handed backhand, which he delivered with elegance and force. One-handed backhand became one of his signature strokes.
Federer's breakthrough on the professional circuit came in 2003 when he won his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, defeating Mark Philippoussis in straight sets. The victory marked the beginning of his stranglehold on the men's game. Federer's dominance over the next decade was unprecedented, as he amassed an incredible record of 20 Grand Slam singles titles, a feat matched only by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Widely regarded as the king of grass courts, Federer's mastery of Wimbledon was particularly remarkable. He won the prestigious tournament a record-breaking eight times, including five consecutive titles from 2003 to 2007.With an elegant and seemingly effortless playing style Roger Federer quickly became a tennis legend. He excelled at handling pressure and was nearly unbeatable on the historic courts of the All England Club. But his success extended far beyond Wimbledon – he also won six Australian Open titles, five US Opens, and one French Open.
His ability to adapt to different surfaces showcased his all-around skills, solidifying his place as one of the greatest players in the sports history. Yet Federer’s impact stretches beyond tennis. His charismatic personality and philanthropy have captured fans' hearts worldwide. He established a charitable foundation in 2003 with a focus on providing education and athletic opportunities for underprivileged children. Through this foundation he has made a significant difference in countless young people’s lives – further demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact outside of competition. Despite Federers incredible achievements he has faced challenges throughout his career. In recent times injuries have plagued Federers career leading to multiple surgeries. However his unwavering passion for tennis has inspired an incredible comeback effort that commands the respect and admiration of both fans and fellow players.
Federer's name will forever be synonymous with excellence, elegance, and the sheer joy of watching a master at. Unfortuntely in 2022 the legend decided to take retirement after playing laver cup. He was an iconic era in tennis. Throughout his career, he has inspired millions of people. He will be missed by tennis fans all across the globe.

Kid Congo Powers and the Near Death Experience — Live in St. Kilda (In the Red)
Live in St. Kilda by Kid Congo Powers & the Near Death Experience
On November 9th, 2019 — only a few years ago, and yet somehow another era altogether in the context of recent human experience — the irrepressible Kid Congo Powers, equal parts post-punk journeyman, visionary, prankster and icon, performed in the Australian city of St. Kilda, having accepted an invitation from Kim Salmon of veritable Aussie noise institution The Scientists, to celebrate the publication of his autobiography, Nine Parts Water, One Part Sand: Kim Salmon and the Formula for Grunge. Lacking a sufficient budget to bring his esteemed longtime collaborators the Pink Monkey Birds to the southern hemisphere, Powers was backed on this occasion by the Near Death Experience, veterans of gritty, saturnine acts like Crime and the City Solution and These Immortal Souls, who also happen to be previous tour mates of the Pink Monkey Birds.
This impromptu collaboration, billed fittingly as Kid Congo Powers & the Near Death Experience, is documented in all of its wanton, ephemeral glory on the delightful live show document, Live in St. Kilda, with impressive clarity and crisp high fidelity. While the recording sometimes feels almost too clean to suit these raw, spirited interpretations of several generations of seminal scuzz rock — including tracks drawn from the Pink Monkey Birds’ and Near Death Experience’s cheeky repertoires, as well as covers encompassing the resoundingly influential oeuvres of Powers’ former bands The Gun Club and The Cramps, and a curatorially-eclectic range of other inspirations — the unctuous, pungent charms of this flamboyant performance nonetheless transcend its sometimes overly streamlined edges.
The songs themselves rollick and grind with garage rock authenticity in the venerable tradition of labels like In the Red and Crypt. In this band’s take on East LA Chicano rock pioneers Thee Midniters’ reimagining of the cheerily morbid children’s campfire song “I Found a Peanut,” Powers’ raucously declamatory vocals surf keyboardist Edwina Preston’s surging Farfisa (?) swells and drummer Clare Moore’s delirious drum fills. It’s a performance that might have mesmerized British Invasion-addled teenyboppers decades ago. The band’s rendition of the Pink Monkey Birds’ “Black Santa” has The Cramps’ brashly confrontational, unapologetically neanderthal snarl, with Preston’s spooky Moog accents and guitarist Harry Howard’s overamplified, indestructible riffs setting a tawdry, psychotronic go-go tone that would make Russ Meyer proud.
“La Llorona” is the Pink Monkey Birds’ retelling of the proto-Gothic Hispanic American legend, in which a woman who drowned her own children in a fit of romantic rage roams the coastline eternally, in a tortured state of unresolved pique. Here and elsewhere, while Powers does have a boisterous set of rock n’ roll pipes, the recording, and perhaps the performance itself, might be more compelling with a bit more murk, and thus, enigma shrouding the vocals. It may be as simple as pushing them further back into the mix. But throughout the record, the band’s atmospherics lend gravitas to the overall effect. Here, it’s the spidery No-Wave guitar lines, snaking out like shivery tendrils.
Nonetheless, Powers’ endearingly manic singing, and his effervescent stage banter carry the show throughout. He’s a guttersnipe Elvis fronting a kindler, gentler incarnation of AmRep and Sub Pop label mainstays like the late, lamented Dwarves and The Hellacopters, in a performance that evinces, and executes a more expansive range of genre interests, but funnels them exuberantly through the garage idiom, as in the band’s cover of The Shangri-Las’ “Sophisticated Boom Boom,” and the bludgeoning, Dead Moon-invoking fuzztone static of Cramps cover “Garbage Man.”
Does this music have the literary, lyrical aspirations of the Bad Seeds, or The Gun Club’s heady cultural cross-pollination? No. The set list is appropriate given the festive nature of the event, but it can feel skin deep thematically at times. Here and there, the vocal phrasing is clumsy, the arrangements verge on pastiche. But the band’s spirit cannot be contained, and nor can its capacity to surprise, which seeps periodically through these consummately professional, airtight renditions—like the Kraftwerkian churn that drives Suicide cover “Diamonds, Fur Coats, Champagne,” with its ominous vibraphonic plinks — a film score threatening to careen off the rails.
And it’s the way the band, and Powers especially, set the interstitial moments off in particular, what Powers has described as a band’s artistic ethos, the distinctive style, the inimitable panache inherent in any larger-than-life rock act, that set this gig apart. Like Powers’ purgative burp, punctuating this one-off combo’s version of the NDE’s own “When He Finds Out.” Or the way he teases out the syllables in a sensuous neo-noir drawl in introducing “Diamonds…,” like a pulp fiction archetype’s incantatory reverie while on a sun-baked tear over a freshly paved two lane blacktop reeking of tar. By the time he refreshingly lampoons the idea of a stagey encore after a swaggering cover of The Gun Club’s “Sex Beat,” we’ve been long since won over.
Must have been a day to remember.

AUSTRALIAN TENNIS LEGEND DAVID TALBOT ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT.
13 JUNE, 1995 — A tearful David Talbot announced his retirement from professional tennis yesterday, following a broken wrist at last year’s US Open final that saw him withdraw and hand the title to longtime rival Tomas Dvorak. Following the injury, Talbot admitted to having multiple surgeries, but yesterday declared he was “finished.”
“I broke my wrist in three places. I had so many surgeries, so much physical therapy, but I just can’t play like I used to. It’s a very hard truth to come to terms with, but I have to say that I’m finished. There’s no point in returning to the tour if I can’t play at my very best. I’ve played tennis all my life, and this is the hardest goodbye I’ve had to say.” The 28-year-old tennis star stated in a press conference in his native Melbourne.
Talbot’s retirement closes the chapter on what has been one of the most extraordinary careers in men’s tennis history. He aced his way into tennis stardom at the age of seventeen to become the youngest man to win a Grand Slam at the Australian Open in 1983, a record which still stands today. He proved he wasn’t a one-hit wonder by following up his victory with a win at Wimbledon in 1984, and then another win at his home Grand Slam the same year. Still aged seventeen, Talbot had three Grand Slams to his name. He was a bona fide tennis prodigy (pictured, above in 1989, en route to his third consecutive Bercy Open win).
For a period in the mid-eighties, Talbot dominated every grass court tournament he set foot on. His brash, aggressive style that involved the spectacular diving volleys he became so famous for seemed tailor-made for the fast grass courts. His path to the top of the tennis world was also unconventional; he spurned the junior tour and turned professional at 16 because he needed the prize money to support his cash-strapped family. While his contemporaries were practicing drills at tennis academies in Florida, Talbot, by his own admission, was getting into bar fights in Melbourne.
His rough-and-tumble upbringing and everyman persona captured the hearts and minds of his fellow Australians, in a country that traditionally goes wild for AFL or rugby. Dubbed “the boy king of tennis,” Talbot seemed to have it all, from exotic cars to a Monaco mansion. But, confoundingly, he managed to lose it all just as quickly. First came a widely-publicized arrest for driving under the influence in 1989. Though he got away with a fine and a suspended sentence, the negative publicity seemed to have a profound effect on Talbot. The man who’d looked unbeatable at Wimbledon just the year before was humiliated with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to an unknown in the second round.
The injuries and the first and second round exits continued after that, leading tennis pundits and fans everywhere to ask the golden question: what the hell happened to David Talbot? The answer may never truly be clear, but one suspects it may have to do with the global superstardom thrust upon a seventeen-year-old boy. Talbot’s legal woes continued into the early nineties, and his tennis ranking tumbled out of the top fifty in the world.
He garnered a reputation as a mercurial genius; immensely talented, but guilty of lack of focus at times. On the global stage, Talbot never seemed to mature out of being a brash teenager, and his fiery encounters with tennis umpires and linesmen have become the stuff of both legend and late-night show jokes. Then, in 1993, at twenty-seven, Talbot mounted a concerted comeback effort.
First came a win at the ATP tour finals that year, cementing his reputation as a fantastic hard court player in addition to his grass court prowess. Then a run to the quarter-finals at the Australian Open showed great promise. Talbot’s immense talent hadn’t vanished, and if he got his head in the right place, he could still work miracles. That was what made his injury at the US Open final so cruel. The final hurdle to show the world that Talbot wasn’t going to go away quietly, and the world was robbed of another engrossing chapter in his rivalry with Dvorak. It would’ve been his first Grand Slam title in six years, and his eleventh, if he had won the match.
Talbot retires with ten Grand Slams to his name, a figure that isn’t to be scoffed at. He also lifted the Davis Cup in Australian colours five times. He remains the youngest men’s world number one player. Impressive as these stats are, one can’t help but wonder: what if? What if Talbot had kept that mental focus and kept up that winning streak? What if Talbot hadn’t been so young when he’d first won, and what if he’d been in a better place to deal with his fame and wealth? How many more records could he have broken? How long could he have dominated the game? The world, unfortunately, will never know.

Saturday, July 27 - Blue Mountains
Today we had booked a small group tour out to the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. Outside of renting a car, this seemed to be the best option, since public transportation is a bit challenging and would have limited us to one small area. This area is a National Park, and it is huge, almost 2 and a half million acres. It isn't really mountains as much as an uplifted area crossed with canyons. It gets its name from the oils from the eucalyptus trees that bloom into the air, especially on warm summer days and create a bluish tinge to the air.
We met our mini bus about 10 blocks from our hotel at 7:30 and just as we were embarking, there was a loud crash of thunder and it started to pour. Not a particularly auspicious start to the day, but Tommy, our guide, said that often when sometimes when he emerges from the 11 kilometer long tunnel west of the city, the weather is entirely different. Not this time, as it continued to pour for most of the next hour, letting up to a light drizzle by the time we reached out first stop - an overlook in the lower eastern part of the park. As we walked to the overlook, it was almost completely wreathed in fog, but as we stood there, it started to lessen, and pretty quickly we could see the river below and the train on the opposite cliff. This was an area where koalas were reintroduced after rehabbing after the massive fires of 2020. We kept looking for koalas and also wallabies, but weren't lucky enough to see them.
Afterwards we made a short stop on the gateway town of Glenbrook, where Russ and I met the mayor campaigning outside a local bakery, and talked politics. We also saw a flock of rainbow lorikeets, who are completely multi-colored in bright primary shades. Like many tourist towns, there was an abundance of cafes, and prices were considerably higher than in Sydney.
We next stopped at an overlook much higher up, where although the rain had stopped, the fog was still gathering below. The cliffs here are riddled with caves, many of which have been occupied by both aboriginal folk and later white settlers. These mountains are the historic land of two aboriginal tribes and our guide shared with us some of the plants that have been used for millennia for food and medicine, as well as the fact that the wattle plant, with its green leaves and yellow flowers, is the inspiration for the green and gold of Australia's Olympic colors. The wattle plant is one that supplies food, medicine, and even a sweet sap for those who understand its uses. Another bit of Australian trivia that Tommy supplied is the fact that the kangaroo and the emu are the two animals on the official shield because they can only move forward, as it is hoped for Australia.
The main event of the day, however, was our next stop - a hike to the base of Wentworth Falls. One of the reasons we chose this tour over others that did more lookout stops was the emphasis on hiking. We had good views of the falls from several lookouts and then hiked down to the top of the main cataract, following a trail that crept under overhangs. From the top of the falls it was a steep descent on uneven tall steps down to the base of the falls, but it was worth it. Although the temperature was below 60 degrees, we were stripped down to our t-shirts for the hike back up to the top and a very welcome lunch.
We had one last stop at the "three sisters", a nice rock outcrop that has unfortunately become a mecca for large tour buses, and as such is overcrowded, with lots of shops as well to take advantage of the multitudes. As we have seen in Sydney, most of the large tour groups are east Asian - usually Chinese, although we have also seen groups from Taiwan and South Korea. It is relatively easy for them to visit because of the distances. The legend of the sisters is that men from a different kin group wanted to kidnap an elder's daughters, but he turned the daughters into stone so they could not be stolen. Then he died in the subsequent battle and never had the chance to return them to living beings.
By now it was mostly sunny, although it never really warmed up much. We got back to Sydney (a two hour return drive) just after sunset, and finally found a supermarket on our way back to our hotel. We also found a "bottle shop", where we were able to buy some of the dark ale we had enjoyed on tap at the pub yesterday. We felt like we had earned it with our second day of active hiking.
Although we probably would have enjoyed doing some more hiking in the park near the falls rather than our last overcrowded stop, it was still a very good tour and our guide shared a lot of Aussie trivia with us, which was fun. We were lucky enough to see lots of birds, including two pairs of the rare Red-tailed black Cockatoo. Tommy, our guide, said this was only the second time he'd seen them.
Tomorrow it's not supposed to rain, but it will be cooler and windy. Our plans are to take the ferry across to Manly on the north shore and do some hiking on North Head, an area with a lot of historic significance as well as natural beauty. We can sleep in a little, too, which will be nice.

A-T-4 091 Lite Year Heartbreaker

If you own a Sugar Hill record or Bob Marley’s Legend collection or Little Creatures by The Talking Heads you may not have noticed but if you look Eric E.T. Thorngren’s will be credited somewhere. Thorngren sadly passed away on Wednesday, the same day as Steve Albini, his contribution to music engineering, mixing, and production is arguably as influential as Albini but Eric E.T. Thorngren’s death has attracted far less attention. Of course Albini continued to tour and release records and that means doing interviews, on top of that to say Albini was outspoken is an understatement. Thorngren was a studio guy considered too boring for the general public, only serious music journals sought him out for interviews, Of course this is nonsense Eric E.T. Thorngren was really cool
Still in his teens New Yorker Thorngren’s first band was Eric and the Chessmen in the 1960s
“Thorngren founded a band named Bulldog with two former members of blue‑eyed soul group the Rascals — guitar player Gene Cornish and drummer Dino Danelli — in 1972, and it was the recording of a couple of albums with this outfit that sparked his interest in engineering.
After the Bulldogs, it looks like Thorngren worked as a session musician, he contributed guitar and songs to a handful of released put out by RCA in the mid to late 1970s including Take Me To Baltimore by Ruth Copeland which was arranged by Patrick Adams, and the disco album Moving Along by Australian artist Renee Geyer which was produced by Frank Wilson, both albums have some great players on them
“"When I was in the studio, I noticed that the sanest guy was usually the engineer,” he remarks. "At that point, I thought I'd like to get in with the same crew and use my fingers to dabble in not only my own career, but other people's, too.” ”

“I knew a guy who was working at a record company in New Jersey, called All Platinum Records. He hated engineering and wanted to be a folk singer. I said, “When you quit, would you call me up and tell me?” I was living on 81st and First Avenue in Manhattan. I got a call from him. “I just quit.” I called them up and I talked to Joe Robinson. I said, “I understand you need an engineer.” He goes, “Yeah, could you work tonight?” I took a bus to the subway and a bus across the George Washington Bridge; it took me an hour and a half to go 12 miles. I got there, I got the job, and I started working there. Sylvia Robinson and Joe Robinson owned the place. Sylvia had been in Mickey & Sylvia, with the song “Love is Strange.” Soon after I arrived, they changed the name, All Platinum Records, to Sugar Hill Records, which is a neighborhood in Harlem. When I first got there, there was a guy doing some recording and playing back on the console. On every channel, the bass was turned full blast. He had it at 100 Hz and they were all wide-open. They certainly needed an engineer to work there that time. They were happy to have me in there doing anything I wanted to do in the studio. They gave me the keys, and I would go in there and experiment.
“I recorded the first record scratching on [Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “The Adventures of] Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel.” I learned about beauty from the Crash Crew. We cut a song for them, with horns and the whole full production. They came into the studio, and they said, “Shut that off.” I said, “Really? Okay.” Then they said, “And shut that off.” They’re muting all these tracks, and it comes down to be this simple thing that was just earthy. I was like, “Wow!” The fact that they shut off a bunch of overdubs really opened my eyes to being able to mute tracks.”
https://tapeop.com/interviews/153/eric-et-thorngren/
Much of Thorngren’s career involved the phenomenon of one amazing thing leading to another. While in the process of helping Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook mix their lone album as a duo in 1984, their manager introduced Thorngren to Chris Blackwell of Island Records. In turn, Blackwell offered Thorngren the opportunity to select and mix the tracks for the unforgettable Bob Marley and the Wailers compilation, Legend. While working on that project at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas, Thorngren met Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, who asked him to do a new mix of the soundtrack to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, which in turn led to him being asked to record the band’s next studio album, Little Creatures.

So I’ve chosen a rarity from 1984 recorded by Eric E.T. Thorngren. In 1984 he had just finished working with Sugar Hill and was remixing Hope Fell Down for Difford & Tilbrook as mentioned above. This led to mixing Bob Marley and Black Uhuru for Island Talking Heads for Sire and he was also working with Eurythmics on their 1984 soundtrack album. In 1985 he would be nominated for a Grammy Robert Palmer’s Riptide album
