i fear the rottmnt fandom is sansing leo’s character
Tumblr media
doinky rant in tags too:
i fear some ppl in this fandom over exaggerate Leo’s insecurities
bc let’s get some things straight
he’s an arrogant, talented guy who is sometimes an idiot and excels in strategy (a real line he’s dancing with tbh)
he’s great at compensating for what raph lacks in terms of leading: strategy, trusting ppl (like the first time they were w big mama (but their skepticism varies from time to time like w Jupiter Jim)), plus his skillset in fighting is nuts!!
and vice versa: raph often lends an ear to the team upon realising his approaches to certain missions doesn’t work (something Leo doesn’t consider until towards the end of the movie when everyone puts their heads together to make a plan)
let’s get this, too:
while, yes, under the guise he puts up,
he’s just a confused teenager learning shit
and he uses his charm to put up a front that he knows what he’s doing because he’s scared and confused,,
i feel ppl aren’t using the fact that
LEO IS SILLY
HE IS A SILLY FACE MAN
and hey did u know u can make rottmnt angst without making baseless torture towards Leo 😃
#no one’s mad Leo made mistakes in the start of the apocalypse aight#ppl are faulting him for letting his arrogance drive his actions#and unfortunately he only learns about the severity of the situation when Casey gets it through his thick skull that PEOPLE DIE#PEOPLE DIE BECAUSE OF THE KRANG#NOT JUST ANYONE#EVERYONE#and he realises this a little late and ‘makes up for it’ when he realises the only way to deal with their threat#is to seal them away bc he gets humbled upon the realisation that even after throwing literally EVERYTHING they had at the krang#they too damn powerful#heroes aren’t BORN#that’s why Leo’s such a doof#he grows into this role#and it’s a hell of a way to get into it#because he brushes off the title when raph encourages them#bc he knows their responsibility with the powers and abilities they have#and Leo understands this by the end of the film after shits gone down#and realises his role as leader as well#that his actions are responsible for people’s lives#something raph knew about and kept nagging him about too#so YEAH#it’s a fact that leo was a dick in the beginning of the movie#and it’s also technically his fault that the foot got the key#but he always tries to fix things when he realises the severity of their situation#like leaving his pod to get the key and not quitting at all costs to get raph back#but he doesn’t realise how his actions affect others until it’s yelled at him#HES NOT AN EMO TOO LIKE 😭😭#let this fucken turtle be silly!!! he’s silly!!!#rottmnt#rise leo#rottmnt leo

I'm aware this is part of the trend of snarky, snappy dialogue we see for banter on the american television. But I like that it's also Cassandra's little sister instinct shining through - every time we see her in season 3 she's being a leader, a lady, someone who deserves to be at the discussion table; and that's all well and good. Except whenever she's one on one with Percy she's smart mouthing him, being snarky and lovingly annoying him, lol. I think that goes to show how she leans on her big brother, and does so in a way that brings out a more comfortable and youthful side of her. As much as the De Rolos are not huggers, he was clearly all the family she had left :(((

Who was Timmy's teacher at Pixie School? Was it Sanderson? I get the rivalry now.
Tumblr media
His teacher was Fairy Mason! It's usually HP who teaches incoming Pixies, but Jorgen asked Fairy Mason to teach Timmy's class instead. Mainly because if anybody could help Timmy learn all the cultures and etiquette that comes with being a fairy, it'd be Fairy Mason.
He's one of the few fairies to be granted the honor of the "Fairy" title!! Wow!! Not even Jorgen has that honor!!!

I think the two most obvious foils for Ludinus Da'leth across all of Critical Role are Essek and Keyleth, which is both fascinating given how different those two characters are from each other (Essek being a foil in terms of isolation, single-mindedness, harm in the name of ambition, knowledge, and other such wizard themes; Keyleth being a foil in terms of people who have lost something at a young age to the gods and bear resentment for it, political leadership, belief that the world belongs to mortalkind, and longevity) but also it's extremely funny that they both are the partners of Liam's character.

I'm thinking, for no real reason except that I was reminded of it, about Thuron, the Kryn agent the Nein interrogated in the sewers who they initially let take the beacon.
The Crownsguard immediately killed him when the Nein let him go, and they of course promptly stole the beacon back. It's easy to imagine that his soul was captured by that beacon in particular, purely based on proximity. It's not clear whether the case the Nein put the beacon in to avoid its detection prevented souls from leaving the beacon, but let's say for speculatory purposes that it did.
The Nein didn't get that container until the following day, so it is possible that in the time between their taking it and its containment, his soul was bestowed on some infant in Zadash. However, the next place the Nein used the beacon extensively in an urban setting was in Hupperdook, and I think that that's where Thuron should've been reborn, because it is SO funny to imagine that from his perspective when he goes through anamnesis in, idk, forty years.
Like, you're a reasonably high-level drow Kryn agent, probably in the Lens hierarchy, because you were sent with one other agent on this extremely important, very secretive mission on behalf of the Dynasty. You were killed in the streets of Zadash certain you'd failed in your quest of bringing this sacred artifact back to your people. You come to several decades after this and have to process the following:
your death effectively started a war,
the random jackasses who interrogated you and then let you go in the sewers went and stole this artifact back the moment you were downed, for seemingly no reason except impulse, given their otherwise disinterest in messing with the Crownsguard and the artifact itself,
months later they hand-delivered it to the Bright Queen herself, having supposedly walked across the continent,
these jackasses evidently carried it around for a hot minute through a Dwendalian party town known for weapons manufacturing at SOME POINT between these two events, WHILE the war was going on,
and also, you're a fucking gnome.
This has NO business being this funny but god, it is so funny.

Forreal though a good haircut is probably one of the hard things to get when you're living almost exclusively in magical disguise. The barber has to touch your head, and cut your real actual hair - and like sure maybe you could disguise yourself as someone who has your original hair so they can cut it, but letting someone so up close and personal would be a risk. Anyway I have to propose that Yasha as the unofficial wizard barber of the M9 has offered to cut Essek's hair at least once.
Essek, sweating: why are you using a greatsword for this? I am sure we could procure a pair of scissors
Yasha, sharpening the Magician's Judge with a whetstone: this is the only way I know how to cut hair
Essek, sweating further: you know, I believe you. well... make it quick

Thinking about Malleus crying and how he stopped crying/throwing tantrums because of expectations placed on him as the future king.
And loosing that way of expressing himself added onto his loneliness and gave the misconception that he’s “grown” now to not only himself but to others.
Even as an egg, one of the ways Malleus expressed himself was through crying and tantrums, as all children do.
He stopped absorbing his grandmother’s magic because he wanted Lilia (a part of me believes he imprinted on Lilia as an egg, a father figure to him).
When he had enough waiting, he refused magic until Lilia came. That’s when he started holding on and when he actively started to respond to someone again.
It was even stated that Malleus shouldn’t have lasted this long, but Lilia’s constant visits gave him a reason to hang on. His constant presence and love.
Until it wasn’t enough anymore, he was lonely so he cried out and threw a tantrum. Which only Lilia heard and no one else. And Lilia understood then, that Malleus was lonely and wanted to be with him. Malleus was able to hatch because of Lilia.
We later hear stories about how Malleus used to throw tantrums because he was lonely, even on birthdays and special events. We know Lilia visited the castle and brought him gifts so that appeased him.
But, Malleus was young and he was able to express himself and let his feelings known.
But as time went on, he wasn’t allowed to do that anymore, even at a young age. For fear of what his great powers might do to others and because Lilia told him what could happen. And he took that to heart. So he stopped throwing tantrums and crying out, and this is what eventually added into his loneliness.
Lilia was able to comfort him because Malleus cried out and threw tantrums. He was able to go to him when Malleus was in distress.
But then he stopped, because Malleus thought it was ‘childish’ and it can cause others harm. Lilia even said in his beach ssr that Malleus hasn’t done it in a while.
This eventually led to the mentality that Malleus has grown up, when he hasn’t. He thinks he has and he has a role to play as the future king.
He wasn’t allowed to be a child anymore but a potential ruler. Even Lilia, at one point, points out how the heir of Briar Valleys shouldn’t zone out.
Tumblr media
This shows how well Malleus hid his emotions didn’t it? How lonely he must have been because he kept it all in. To the point that Lilia, who always heard his cries, believes that he’s grown and matured now to an adult even though he knows Malleus is young.
But that what happens doesn’t it? When you act older than your age? People take you for granted and believe you’re mature and you don’t need to act like a child anymore.
Malleus even fooled himself. It was when others pointed out his sadness and loneliness that he understood, but he didn’t take action for himself only. No, he took action because another precious family member was crying.
Someone who can express his tears when Malleus couldn’t, who can cry the tears Malleus can’t anymore. And Malleus knows the importance of crying, he tells Silver that all children cry as if Malleus isn’t a child anymore but we know that’s not true.
Until, that is, when we got to that scene where Lilia was asking him why he was doing this. And Malleus, finally to a degree, let his emotions out again after so long, so he wouldn’t loose Lilia.
And you can tell that shocked Lilia, made him maybe realize too late, that Malleus is still a child. A child who loves his family and doesn’t want to loose them, loose him, but it was too late. He doesn’t have the magic to stop him or his UM.
It’s heartbreaking when you think about it. Malleus has to grow to the point that couldn’t express himself anymore from a young age. No one could hear his cries of loneliness anymore, not even the one who hatched him. Because he was forced to grow up and act beyond his age for a role he was born/‘blessed’ into. 😔😭

Caleb, sitting on a cozy chair, having a snack with fresh tea and pastries while cuddling a cute cat: Essek, we're still spies, undercover agent working together for different sides of a war and dangerous powerful magicians, right?
Essek, knitting a scarf, laying on the bed, with a quilt on his legs: of course, dear.

I'm not even gonna write an essay on this one, I'm tired and it's rapidly approaching the witching hour so imma just-
Neil is constantly shadow boxing with his fear of being Just Like My Father NOT because he fears that Wesninski Blood but because he fears the fragility of choice. Everything he knows how to do, all of his skills, combined with his natural disposition and temperament really do put him on par with his father - potentially even worse than his father if you think Nathan lacks Neil's ability to meticulously execute a long con.
Ruthless. Manipulative. Intelligent. Sneaky n Stealthy. Fast. Quick learner. Violent. Cut throat. Selective empathy. Observant. Skilled with weapons. Crime prodigy. Improv. Etc etc etc - Nathaniel truly is Nathan's son when you look at Capacity. Neil had very good reason to fear that - he really is a Wesninski in more than just name.
He just chooses to be kind. Chooses to care. Chooses Exy and friends and family and Andrew and Love.
But choices are both iron clad foundations and flimsy whisps in the wind
Neil isn't different from his father because of difference in Capacity. Neil is different from his father because of difference in Choices. And "Is that enough?" is such a scary question when it suddenly involves people he dared to care about.

The Helena diaz of it all has me fascinated. I’ve said for a long while that Eddie’s real issues are his mommy issues and this episode just cemented for me that we’re gonna explore that and deal with it.
Because it’s Helena who forced Eddie to grow up to fast - because her husband wasn’t around much - so she pushed Eddie into de facto parent and husband role ls - selfishly filling her needs and ignoring the damage it was doing to her son (it is a form of abuse in my book).
Eddie then had the audacity to fall in love with and marry Shannon and get her pregnant. It’s why Helena was always so off with Shannon - she was punishing her. She is also punishing Eddie for all of this and his refusal to return to El Paso only cemented further her bitterness and resentment.
Now she does have Ramon back she doesn’t need Eddie any longer to fill that role so she is still punishing him and part of that is tied into her glee over now getting to parent Christopher - something she has always been intent on doing the doppelgänger just gave her the opportunity- as well as allowing her to further punish her son and his love of Shannon.
Her barbed comments about building a pool were all about showing what she can provide Christopher - how she is parenting him better than Eddie - it’s part of her mind games - making Eddie feel like more of a failure as a parent to his son.
The reality of course is that the reverse is true - Helena’s parenting is all superficial, flash and showy - it isn’t the hard day to day parenting when things get tough and you have to be the bad guy. While Eddie has made mistakes, there is nothing superficial, flash, or showy about his parenting. It’s why bucks comments about Eddie being a great dad are so important.
Eddie feel like a failure right now and that he is entirely to blame for everything. But in reality, while he does bear a bit of the responsibility, the truth of the matter is that he needs to learn and deal with the fact that all of it actually stems from Helena and her abuse of her young son - Shannon never stood a chance just like Eddie never has.
#genuinely don’t see how she can get any sort of redemption arc#but this is 911 so maybe they’ll find a way 🤷🏻‍♀️#Helena’s treatment of Eddie is a form of child abuse - it has done so much damage to him psychologically#I do really hope we finally get to meet Sophia and adriana as part of this arc beciase I think it might be very revealing#I am also wondering if Ramon had a stache in the past - and that is what Eddie is subconsciously trying to mimic#and that is about him trying to regain his mothers affection - trying to fill that husband role she forced him into#and that shaving it off is a part of his dealing with that and choosing to free himself from her clutches#and in doing that - standing up for himself etc - it will be the trigger that v ring schristopher back#the catholic guilt and Eddie’s queerness is also all tied up in this - the church reinforces and condones Helena and her actions#the Catholic Church has a long history of abuse of children in all it’s horrendous forms#so Eddie seeking solace in that direction think it will help him find away back to Helena’s good books only for it to open a few doors he#has bolted shut#as for the queer aspect - forcing Eddie to grow up too fast and fill this role of husband to his mother and parent to his siblings means#Eddie never got the chance to learn who he actually is - to explore his sexuality and all that goes with that - at the age one normally#would - as a teenager and into your 20’s. it explains so much around his relationship with Shannon and dealing with the helana of it all#and the queerness of his identity - will also allow him to actually let Shannon go#Eddie’s arc is going to be incredible - heartbreaking and gut wrenching - but incredible#Helena diaz it’s on sight - she is evil and cannot be redeemed in my eyes!#911 spoilers#Thinky thoughts#eddie diaz#911 abc

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

even though shen yuan disdains wife plots, i feel it's because they're often so contrived and the wives are always damsels in distress, and when the system puts him in one it's against his will and he has no control over it, BUT, i think if he makes the choice to put himself in one on purpose and with a plan, he would excel at it, he would play into it so hard to get what he wants, he'd see it as his opportunity to cheat the system (pun intended!) and farm easy points
