Tumblr media
Rick leaned so hard into the incest for the first few books. There’s so many of these scattered throughout the books, causally mentioning that all of the campers share facial features and the traits their godly parents like the most. Not to mention calling each other by familial names (cousin, sister, uncle, etc…).
He should have just leaned into it instead of trying to retcon it and then retconning his retcon in the same paragraph.
Tumblr media
“But the thing is, the godly side of your family doesn’t count, genetically speaking, since gods don’t have DNA.”
Well, that’s not what the other four books say but alright. We can pretend that this is what Rick meant all along. Problem solved. oh wait, there’s more…
“A demigod would never think about dating someone who had the same godly parent. Like two kids from Athena cabin? No way.”
But they’re not related. You just said they aren’t related. Most of the campers are also only there for summer, so they aren’t “like siblings” or “raised together as siblings” and they aren’t adopted. Why wouldn’t they date if they wanted to?
“But a daughter of Aphrodite and a son of Hephaestus? They’re not related. So it’s no problem.”
Yes, we know they aren’t related because gods don’t have DNA and because they aren’t “like siblings” or “raised together as siblings” or adopted. Kind of like how Annabeth and Malcolm aren’t related, aren’t like siblings, weren’t raised together as siblings, and aren’t adopted. So there’s no problem with Annabeth and Malcolm dating.

OH MY GOD THE NEWEST EPISODE??
(pjo spoilers below btw)
IM GONNA KMS OMG THIS EPISODE WAS SUCH A PERCABETH WIN!!!
like this is the ep you start to see annabeth open up to percy, and where percy starts to see annabeth as a friend. annabeth’s standoffish nature starts to fade as she learns she can TRUST percy, and percy’s genuine care for annabeth is so UGSHSNDNEJSKD!:!/&&;&!!
like i cried real tears when percy almost called annabeth “friend”, like oh my god those words. because the weight of what “friend” means to percy is phenomenal, and the fact that he’s finally, FINALLY, calling annabeth his friend. wow. boy you’re gonna have some big feelings for her in a few years just you wait 😈
the interactions between percy and annabeth felt so real, like that was food for the soul. MY SOUL. also annabeth being a fucking badass on the train like okay girl i see you: stabbing things, making lil locks and protecting everyone on the fly, i see you girl. love you. AND WOW HER GEARING UP TO FUCKING DIE PROTECTING GROVER AND PERCY. she did say that she was fending the chimera and echidna off because grover and percy needed to get to hades and collect the bolt, but whatever i know she’s doing it cause she cares too.
also i cannot believe this. the arch scene was spectacular. specifically when percy, in his self sacrificial glory, offered the sword to annabeth then used it to get her and grover to safety. that scene resonated so strongly with him in house of hades, when he was ready to shove annabeth into the elevator and fight off the entire army of tarturus in order to get her to safety. like that was just—
i have very big strong feelings about percy pulling annabeth out of the way and locking her and grover out. his loyalty is so limitless, and this show is doing so good at showing how fatal his flaw really is.
my favorite episode so far that’s for sure!

i finished TSATS a couple hours ago and i have a lot to say on some of the shit it’s been getting (keep in mind, i truly did not care abt solangelo before this novel… so this isn’t even coming from a solangelo stan)
TSATS SPOILERS
on nico’s characterization:
- before reading TSATS, i was the FIRST person to complain abt fanon nico. i’ve always HATED when ppl make him dark humor-y and proud and stuff bcz he literally grew up a catholic in 1930s. in the HoO and lowkey ToA era, his ass was NOT frequently making gay jokes and “lol i’m so dead inside” jokes
- i like how in ToA we get to see him be slightly less brooding than in HoO, bcz it shows us that he’s evolving as a person (kinda like real three dimensional human beings tend to do)
- in TSATS, with him now being in a healthy relationship and a safe environment, i think it’s fair to assume he’s changed. i would say the change was fast… but he’s a teenager, and coming from another teenager… im a completely different person than i was 3 months ago so honestly i can 100% believe it
- the one nico characterization thing i didn’t love was his talk w/ piper (and the lil nas x thing but i like to pretend that didn’t happen) … it was pushing it. but i’ll allow it bcz i imagine it could be beneficial to some kids… just wish that same message could’ve been conveyed through will or something?
on will’s characterization:
- i don’t think it’s fair to say he was just “dumbed down” or being an asshole… he was in tartarus. and he spends 90% of the book being injured or severely exhausted.
on them being cringe:
they’re teenagers and it’s a middle grade book. if ur gonna tell me u wouldn’t have said that kinda shit in ur first or second relationship as a teenager… ur fuckin lyin.
on them being a percabeth “rip-off”:
honestly, i truly thought this was the case until they started genuinely bickering. that’s when i realized that they’re a completely new archetype to the riordanverse… a VERY fresh and nuanced one at that.
- love for percabeth comes easy, percy’s bullshittery is endearing, annabeth’s know-it-all-ness(???) is endearing, they’re obsessed with each other 100% of the time. even when the other does something stupid it’s always “i was annoyed, but i love them so much”.
- for solangelo, they have moments where they are genuinely just annoyed and frustrated with each other because- say it with me now- they’re three dimensional!!! not every couple is percabeth, not every couple has to be percabeth, and not every couple should be percabeth. they’re very sweet (they’re my favorite ship in all of riordanverse btw), but also pretty unattainable and rare in the real world.
- i also think it should be noted that percy and annabeth went through a lot of their trauma together vs. will and nico, who didn’t experience most of their trauma together… so instead of it bringing them closer like percabeth’s might, it puts a strain on them.
in conclusion: TSATS is my second favorite percy jackson book. (my first being HoH)

Walker Scobell X Reader | series I you belong with me 🔱 part 25
Universal Studios 🎢 part 2 😁
You were now next in line to see the grinch. Boy he was chaotic😂
He runs over to you guy and towers over you looking you straight in the eyes
"What do you want?" He says in his iconic grinch voice
"A picture" you smile
"And what about you? Did you bring me an onion?" He asks Walker
"Yeah but I ate it in line" walker shrugs
"OH! THE AUDACITY! No picture for you just her now!" He says as he pushes Walker aside
"But I want him in the picture!" You exclaim
"Why?" He asks
"Uhh because I do" you shrug
"Alright fine. What is he your brother?" He asks with attitude
The crowd just laughs knowing he has no idea who you are
There are like a million cameras on you right now btw
"No he's my boyfriend" you laugh
"Oh...oopsie" he replies
You take a few pictures just side by side
"Wait can we do a few more?" Walker asks
"Sure!" The nice girl taking the pictures says
Walker dips you and kisses you
You didn't see the face the grinch was making but you hear his sounds
Vomiting sounds, saying "I'm gonna be sick", "this is disgusting", "MY EYES!" etc
He tapped you on the shoulder and Walker picked you back up
"Are you don't yet?" The grinch asked
"Yeah" Walker shrugs
"Good! Now get out!" He says and storms off
The last this you hear is him say
"Teenagers blah"
You and Walker almost die laughing
You were walking over to hogsmeade when you hear little footsteps behind you
"Do you hear that?" Walker asks as the two of you turn around and see like 15 little kids following you
"Awwwwwww they're adorable!" You smile
"Uhhhhhh what do we do?" Walker asks
"Group hug!!" You say as you open your arms wide and all the kids collapse into you
"Does this count as kidnapping?" Walker asks
"How could it? We didn't take them" you shrug
"But you're hugging them" Walker says
"What should I do? Yell at them?" You roll your eyes
"I need to find an employee and tell them" Walker says as he walks off
When he returns he sees you standing on a little step and the kids all looking up at you
"MINIONS!" You yell
"Oh no" walker sighs
"TONIGHT WE STEAL THE MOON!!" You yell and the little kids starts to cheer
"She's created an army" walker laughs
The parents show up within a few minutes
Turns out they were all from the same class! And the 13 year old girls who were in charge of them wanted to meet you so they sent the kids🤦‍♀️
You walk by an artist drawing another couple
It was adorable!
You didn't even say it. Walker just knew what you were thinking by looking at you.
The man finished with the couple's drawing just as you walked up
"Hi! Could you draw us?" Walker asks
"Anything for Percabeth" the man smiles
After about 30 minutes the man was done
https://pin.it/3FmhXFlLe
This is the only pic I could find. Sorry! My stupid phone wouldn't let me upload it😭
"Do you like it?" The artist asks
"I love it! It's amazing!" You smile
It was now nighttime and the Hogwarts castle light show is about to happen
The show was projected onto the castle!
The evil spells!
The dark mark!
Everything!
IT. WAS. AMAZING!!
But by the time you guys leave you are exhausted from your long day
"Are you alright?" Walker asks sweetly
"No. I'm tired. My feet hurt. And I'm hungry." You whine
"Here hop on" he says standing in front of you so you can jump on his back
"No I can't. You're probably tired too!" You yawn
"I'm fine trust me! Jump on!" He replies
You jump in his back and he proceeds down to the exit
"You're the best! I love you!" You say as you tuck your face into his neck
"I love you more" he replies sweetly
That was the last thing you remember as you drift off to sleep
"Can I get two double-double cheeseburgers, a large chocolate and a large strawberry shake and 3 fries animal style" you hear Walker say
"Will that be all?" You hear a muffled voice
"Yes thank you" walker replies
"Okay please pull up to the window" the voice says again
"Thank you" Walker replies
Awwwwww he's getting you food because you said you're hungry!🥹
He grabs the food and puts it down next to him
"Princess wake up" he whispers to you sweetly
"Hm" you mumble
"Are you hungry? I got food" he whispers again
You smile and sit up
"You're literally the man of my dreams" you kiss him
"And you're the girl of mine" he smiles at you
"Now gimme that milkshake" you snatch it from him
A/n: I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SORRY!! PLEASE DON'T BE MAD AT ME!😭 THIS IS SO LATE AND I'M HORRIBLE😭 I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOOOOO MUCH!! Since Percy looks so much like Rhea, did it change anything in the WTHB universe during the first PJO books? What was Kronos thinking of Percy? And what about Luke? Since I don't think it's revelant in WTHB, if you have the time, could you explain a little bit the changes you think happened compared to the og books, please? :) I'd really like to read your take on it! :) Thank you, have a great day, and good luck with your studies! (Btw, your art is beautiful, I love Percy so much, and the triplets too!)
Some minor details that we will go through in the future. We actually have a chapter with Percy’s flashbacks coming up soon.
Kronos? Well, he’s a bit (very) crazy. So you can imagine… and we’ll have a glimpse of her relationship with Luke in the chapter I mentioned. She did had a one-summer-hero-worship-crush for him (before the whole trying to kill her thing), but their relationship was strictly platonic.
Some changes from the books are like…
Percabeth are just friends, they’re close as two can be but still just friends.
Percy is way closer to some gods (we’ll get to that soon, too), which eventually plays out for her to open her heart to Apollo.
She’s closer to some campers than Percy is in the books, like Silena, Clarisse, Pollux and Castor, etc…
The quest in Titan’s Curse played out a little differently, Zoe obviously wasn’t averted to Percy’s presence, but Chiron didn’t want Percy in that quest because he obviously saw the likeness she had to faded Queen Rhea. She went either way, just like in canon.
Her fight with Antaeus in the Battle of Labyrinth is a lot more traumatic (there’s a lot of hints of that in chapter 4).
Like, from the back of my head this is what I can remember right now. There’s some other changes, but you’ll see that in the story 💕

Nico di Angelo in Ceaseless Eve: Let's Discuss
Tumblr media
⚠️ The following contains spoilers for any & all of Ceaseless Eve ⚠️
How do you even begin to write a character like Nico?
He's a character who feels like a distant childhood friend (funnily enough, being a pjo fan since I was nine or so, all of the characters feel that way to me). There are so many interpretations of him that are close, yet slightly different. There is, of course, the new canon content being released about him--and that brings up an entirely new wave of opinions that I will not get into (lol).
I wrote as many chapters in his perspective as I did Leo's. Where Leo opened the story, Nico closed it, two sides of the same coin. And yet, I feel as though I have only scratched the surface of who he is.
To begin, I made Nico out to be a guide character--Leo's protector, his introduction to the world of mythology. I think this is a good place to start him off after the events of The Last Olympian, because it shows that he finds camp more stable, and he is less flighty. He found a friend in Piper, which I think Nico really needed--having a friend made outside of a quest shows that he really has opened up a little. I believe that despite not being the best at communication or hospitality, he wants to provide the incoming demigods with a safe home and good experience, ensuring no demigod feels abandoned by camp the way he did.
Another reason why I established Nico and Piper's friendship prior to the events of CE is due to my personal opinions on Blood of Olympus and the Heroes of Olympus series as a whole. I won't get too much into my opinions on canon and ships, because i know many CE readers are multishippers and quite like canon. However, I will say I was not a fan of how...quickly Will was introduced in the end, and how he is introduced as a friend, only to quickly be established as a boyfriend not long after. I would have liked to see their friendship grow and develop into a relationship over the course of several books like percabeth. I also think the friendships amoungst the seven & others were not developed much outside of the couples. That was why I had Piper and Nico be friends first--so Nico could have a friend before meeting Leo and developing a relationship with him. I mean, we all need a friend to talk about our crush with, right? ("But, Rose, you silly goofy genius, what about Nico's friendship with Jason in canon?" they are in love in canon, next question).
I believe that by the time they start the quest, Nico and Leo are on around even footing. Of course, they have been exchanging quips from chapter one, and Nico is always going to be more in-tune to the mythological aspect than Leo, but this is their first quest. As independant as they both are, Nico feels somewhat comfortable allowing Leo to help in times of trouble, and that feeling reaches a precipice at the Doors of Death when Leo comes up with their escape.
As for the romantic element of their relationship, I think that Nico secretly thought that Leo was cute from their first meeting (oh, wait, I wrote it--that's canon lol). It's not until just...all of chapter seven (which I'm still Normal about, btw) that Nico begins to question how he feels about Leo. The nature of the timeline of the fic makes this all develop a lot quicker than I thought would be realistic for the both of them, so I wanted to leave the end to be picked up in the next book. I think there I can delve more into their feelings for each other and how they really are opposite sides of the same coin.
A favorite thing that goes along with Nico's character: Bianca's Star
I love Bianca's star so much, I hope it's not too obvious that I came up with it on the spot while writing chapter 16 lol. It really does seem like something that should have been in canon. I thought it'd be a small way to honor Nico's relationship with his late sister while building up his future relationship with Hazel. And speaking of...
Bonus character!
Hazel Levesque: Let's Discuss
In writing the parts before the trio's decent into the Underworld, I wrote in their retrieval of Hazel as a "they might as well while they're down there" (lol, that sounds so mean :') )--but I was quick to realize that Hazel's character was way too important to be sidelined.
She is a particularly selfless character, which I think can be contributed to the circumstances of her revival. She wants to do what she can to help her new friends and the gods--even if she has a lot of mixed feelings about her situation and who she can consider a friend. Although she is a side character in this book, she will be taking up the main character mantle in the sequel. Hazel will definitely have more time in the spotlight to discover her abilities as a demigod as well as who she wants to be in her second life.

I thought after not reading actual books in ages it would take me a long time to finish this one but I finished The Chalice of the Gods in like five hours
Thank you to my platonic wife @they-say-who for lending me her copy!! You can come collect it whenever you’re free <3 (still have yet to start one of us is lying though)
Random spoiler-y rambles under the cut:
‘You need to embrace old age!’
Percy: Okay **hugs the embodiment of old age**
Awawawawaw the Percabeth is so real here
“The three musketeers!”
“The power puff girls”
“Shrek, Fiona and Donkey”
“No wait-”
“I’m fine with this”
THE OG TRIO TOGETHER AGAIN IM GOIKG TO SCREAMMMM <333
PERCY’S REASTION TO ESTELLE IS SO PRECIOUS ACTUALLY
The Jackson-Blofis family interactions are everything to me,,, Grover just casually dropping in along with Annabeth,,, they’re family,,,
The entire book can be summarised by: Percy gets existential and loves his friends and simps for Annabeth
HE LOVES HIS GIRLFRIEND YOUR HONOUR
Percy giving Grover relationship advice dhejebbdbd so real and true
“Just say you weren’t thinking. You were being stupid”
“Like what you do with Annabeth”
“..right”
“Stop grinding your teeth”
**clearly grinding his teeth** “I’m not grinding my teeth”
I think the fandom forgets that Percy has a temper like. There is a reason I related so strongly to this kid when I was younger (and still now tbh)
ALSO HE IMPALED HIS BEDROOM WALL AND POSTER EITH HIS SKATEBOARD OVER A BAD GRADE?? MY GUY ARE YOU ALRIGHT DID YOU FIX YOUR WALL
I feel so bad for Percy btw,,, he needs a break
Annabeth going back to school when they’re done for the day. So real of her
Also Percy is younger than me in this book which is. Odd. Honestly.
If I had a nickel for every time Percy saved his life purely by thinking about Annabeth-
Grover is the SAME and I LOVE him <333
LIKE THE ARTIST THING?? PLEASE HES SO FUNNY
Also he’s so good at distracting that Percy got distracted every time
Take a shot every time Percy and Annabeth say ‘I love you’ in any shape or form
Friendly rainbow grandma
Knowing that the trio goes to California together means I don’t get sad when Grover talks about them leaving him. Because no they’re not
Percy having actual hope for the future?? For real??? Good for him!!!
ALSO MY BOY RUNNING ACROSS A FIELD WITH A RAINVIW TRAILING BEHIND HIM??? PRIDE?? GAY?? BUSEXUAL PERCY CANON?? /J
To anyone who has also read the BMC Riordanverse AU fic called unclaimed. Hebe is not what we thought she would be.
Also the casual mention of Jason and Piper because he is not dead in this point in time-
Oop.
Anysay it’s literally five minutes away from being midnight so bye

thoughts on the pjo episode?
Okay I'm gonna try to go through it chronologically also thank you so much for the ask ani
1. The hug!!!!! like they're not friends they're not not friends but still it was such a touching moment and so cute!!!
2. Ares i think the casting is great also him starting twitter fights is something that is so real whoever wrote this if it wasn't only rick truly gets him
3. Percabeth in the entire episode was just perfect. The first seaweed brain (even though i have to admit i didn't really notice it in the heat of the moment) them just working together so well, Annabeth literally crying when percy sat on that throne and just the emotions in general
3. Grover manipulating the shit out of ares is so real, i love that there giving him room to shine (i also made a post specifically about this)
4. also the scene where annabeth was yelling at hephaetus made me cry
5. I really liked the design of the love tunnel
6. Percy in this episode was so ambivalent, because sometimes he was so smart and knew all the myths and stuff and had so much emotional intelligence and then he was clueless aka "I'm the last one to realise this aren't I?" or did kinda stupid stuff like challenging Ares at the end, but i love him for that
Also i am so excited for the next episode in the lotus casino and lmm as hermes (btw i will block people who spread lmm hate, cause I'm annoyed by it)

It was quite a lot of my mother's side of the family, my grandma (81, absolutely bonkers) and my aunt are going to Poland to visit my cousins (my aunt's eldest child, his wife and their daughter, Angel) for a week, so we gathered to say goodbye and give them any presents we had for Angel (she's had a birthday since the last of us went to Poland). It was less of a dinner and more of a "bring a plate of finger food" but I don't see them often because I work nights so catching up was nice.
I watched the new PJO last night actually! I waited until it was all released before I watched any of it (anxiety and cliffhangers don't mix well (I knew what would happen but anxiety doesn't care)) Oh my stars, those kids all did so well!!! It was a joy to watch from start to finish!! (for me at least, I know fan opinion is split)
Oh you ask the hard questions, don't you? My favourite TSC characters (I'm gonna cheat and say 2) I would have to say is Ty and Alec. I relate to both of them a lot. Ty was the first character like me (autistic) I ever saw in the media and there just aren't words for how much that meant to me. Alec I related to a lot as well because all he wants is his family safe and happy, even if he has to change the world to do it.
What about you? Who's your favourite of the TMI gang?
-☀️
Oh that sounds so wholesome! Is is okay if I ask from which country you‘re from (you don‘t have to answer)? Omg you work nights?! I could never do that! I‘m a day person through and through and have to be at bed by 10 pm like a grandma haha.
That‘s actually so smart (even though I would have been way too impatient to wait that long to watch it haha). I loved the show so much, but I still understand certain critique points like the pacing. As you said the actors did absolutely amazing (The angst in episode five?!? They are the perfect Percabeth). I literally screamed and needed to pause the episode for 5 minutes when the first „Seaweed Brain“ dropped. And the last episode was just crazy good! What was your favorite episode or scene?
They‘re two of my favs as well! And it‘s so amazing that you saw yourself representing through Ty! (I think that also shows how important it is to write characters that people can relate to).
So I actually have quite a lot of characters I love but my absolute favourite has to be Kit. I was simply so moved by his story and that even though he had a tough and unloving childhood, he‘s a such a gentle and kindhearted person and never truly loses hope.
My favourite TSC gang would either be the TLH or the TMI gang. I can‘t even really explain why but I just love them so much.
What about you? And here‘s another tough question: Which is your favourite TSC book?
Happy Valentine’s Day btw! I really love chatting with you!
Love you lots! 💕

Sending a fandom: Star Wars. And Percy Jackson too if you want
[send me a fandom]
Thanks for sending an ask!!
Star Wars:
The first character I first fell in love with:  Both Princess Leia and Queen Amidala, because when I was little I didn't understand the concept of a prequel. I thought that, because the OT were the old movies, that Princess Leia grew up to be Padme. But I honestly wasn't a huge Star Wars fan until I was older and the ST was coming out, so honestly probably Finn and Rey is a more honest answer.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Han Solo. Thought my compulsive need to avoid ever becoming my father would prevent this one. But to be fair, I think I like Han in a very different way than my father does.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t:  Anakin/Vader. Sorry baby, it's nothing personal, I just don't vibe.
The character I love that everyone else hates:  I mean, any of the ST women, but esp. Rose Tico. I will fight to the death for Rose Tico. JJ Abrams, count your fucking days btw.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Padme I guess on a technicality. To be clear, as a little kid, I didn't like the PT, my dad just always had them on, and I was like "the princess/queen is my favorite because she's a princess."
The character I would totally smooch:  I would like to kiss Din Djarin thank you
The character I’d want to be like:  Luke and or Leia
The character I’d slap: Anakin. Hey man, try not killing babies for once
A pairing that I love: Skymandolo
A pairing that I despise: Rose Tico/Hux - honestly I don't have big thoughts or feelings on this one, it's just giving "we heard you liked reylo so we put some reylo in your reylo"
Percy Jackson
The first character I first fell in love with:  I mean, Percy of course. The love for Clarisse developed shortly after, as did the love for Nico.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:  I mean, I used to wish death on Rachel Elizabeth Dare, and I no longer do that, so
The character everyone else loves that I don’t:  Leo. I liked him for a while, but the writing went down hill
The character I love that everyone else hates:  I don't think anyone really hates Clarisse, but very few love her as much as I do
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Probably Nico, not because anything changed, more like. I outgrew Nico. Which is honestly lovely! It means his character helped me get to a place where I was secure and happy on my own, and there's more and better queer rep now, AND queer teens are still finding new and meaningful connections to him! So we still love and respect Nico here. He's just like ... my equivalent of Bing Bong from Inside Out
The character I’d want to be like:  Probably Percy or Grover
The character I’d slap:  Luke. Baby, get it together. You are 23, you should be at the club not killing children.
A pairing that I love: Percabeth 5eva
A pairing that I despise: Leo and Calypso. Hey. What was that about.

Oh I COMPLETELY agree. However, I think there are a few reasons Rick did this.
1. Bias
Yes Rick is biased. But so is the fandom. For example, SO many fans complained about the lack of Percy in TLH. It makes sense that Rick tries to keep fans engaged through using Percy. It makes fans excited to read, which is especially needed in areas of writing that Rick otherwise lacks in (like, so many of his other characters *cough cough*)
2. Familiarity
I can't remember where, but Rick once said that Percabeth is essentially him and Becky on the page, meaning Rick pretty much fictionalized himself as Percy (no shame btw, nearly every writer does this, including myself). Not to mention, the entire PJO series—a whole 5 BOOKS—is written from Percy's pov. Rick obviously is the most comfortable writing from Percy's perspective because he's done it the longest and it's comfortable.
3. Money
This is sort of a tie-in to my first point. It's like D!sney and all their live actions nowadays. When businesses know they can make money out of recycling something popular, they're gonna do it because there is pretty much a guarantee they'll make bank. Rick does this with Percy, and quite a lot I must say. Just look at the Kane Chronicles x PJO crossovers. Heck, Percy even has entire scenes in both TOA and MCGA—not just background cameos. I don't think Rick necessarily chooses to incorporate Percy as much as he does because by choice; surely he's aware of the business tactic, there's no way he isn't. But regardless, Percy shows up a LOT in books that have basically nothing to do with him.
Look, I'm not defending Rick in any way. Percy and Annabeth are absolutely overused characters, and honestly Grover picks up their slack in terms of popularity and it's so so sad. Just look at the three new books that are coming out/came out simply because of the TV series (which are amazing but also serve no purpose whatsoever to the Riordanverse besides *ahem* money). I even want to look further at Jason and his super interesting backstory that just fell flat because of Rick's inability to write him well. Even Piper fell flat. And I'm not even going to start talking about the unecessity of Caleo.
My point, though, is that Rick needs to learn how to branch out. His characters have, for the most part, interesting premises. But Percabeth are like his easy fallback. They're like copouts. Fans love them, he loves them, and thus they guarantee a successful book. But more often than not, Rick needs to take a step away or else risk running Percabeth too thin.
TL;DR Percabeth are Rick's overused copouts because they're 💲 money makers 💲
I think it's clear Rick Riordan has a bit of a bias. I feel like Percy and Annabeth definitely get the most focus in all of his books. Everything connects back to them, nearly all his books feature at least one of them, and I could swear it feels like they get the most chapters in the Heroes of Olympus series. Once The Mark of Athena rolls around, it becomes super obvious. Our four narrators are Annabeth, Leo, Piper and Percy. The House of Hades has Annabeth and Percy leading one storyline, while our other five or six characters are stuck sharing space.
And I don't bring all this up to say I hate Percy or I hate Annabeth. I don't hate them. I just feel like the other characters deserved more attention too. Jason, Leo, Frank, Hazel and Piper are all amazing characters. But they each take turns sharing the spotlight, meaning that they're not getting as much focus as Percy or Annabeth (who always have a spotlight on them). For gods sakes, Jason, Hazel and Frank don't even have any chapters from their perspective in the Mark of Athena! And the House of Hades doesn't really give them all equal time either. They're always struggling to make their mark, while Rick plays up his originals and clear favorites.
So while I really do enjoy his books, I am accusing him of (whether accidentally or intentionally so) having a bias towards Percy and Annabeth in his writing. I don't think he prove me wrong, either. It's clear he had favorites. And the sad thing is: I actually prefer most of the new characters to Percy and Annabeth. I prefer Piper and Leo and Jason and Frank and even Hazel. They're actually a lot more compelling to me. So the fact that they all have to struggle for space…well, it really gets to me.

Hieee could you maybe write a fic where Annabeth changes her hair and Percy is like “omg who r u??”
Btw LOOOOVEEE all your stories, you’re one of my fave percabeth writers
I know this probably wasn't exactly what you were asking for, but it kind of got away from me haha 😅 I hope you like it anyway!
read on AO3
Annabeth had been expecting a reaction when the door to the Poseidon cabin opened, but she hadn’t expected complete and utter silence. Then again, Percy’s face pretty much said it all— his jaw had practically dropped when he caught sight of her.
“It’s awful,” Annabeth sighed, “Just go ahead and say it.”
“No,” Percy said, hurriedly, finally finding the sense to close his mouth, which had been gaping open like a fish, “No it’s not, it’s just— wow.”
“You don’t have to lie, I know how it looks,” Annabeth said. Her arms had already been folded over her chest, but she found them tightening, slightly. She’d been dreading this moment more than the actual haircut.
Which was saying something, because she’d been putting off the actual haircut for a while.
The Giant War had ended nearly two weeks ago, and her hair had been damaged beyond belief for longer. She hadn’t taken very good care of it while Percy was missing— she’d been in survival mode the entire time, and her hair was the last thing she was worried about. Then, of course, there was the quest and… well.
Trekking through the deepest pits of the underworld was really bad for your split ends, apparently.
Beyond the fire river and the poison air, something about being down there had just sucked the life out of her curls. The ends were damaged beyond repair. Some of them were even a little singed, and she couldn’t even remember how that had happened but she also wasn’t trying very hard to.
Annabeth had just been tying it back everyday, putting it in a bun or a scraggly ponytail and hoping nobody would notice. Unfortunately for her, her best friend was a daughter of Aphrodite. And while Piper wasn’t normally very into that type of thing, something about the absolutely atrocious state of Annabeth’s hair had triggered something baked deep into her DNA that required her to fix it.
It had taken a lot of convincing for Annabeth to agree to a haircut, but Piper had insisted it needed to be done. The fact that Piper used to cut her own hair did kind of help— choppy as it was, the unkempt look actually required more skill than one would expect. So that was how Annabeth had found herself in the Aphrodite cabin an hour previously, watching inch after inch of damaged hair fall away in a gaudy supermodel mirror as she tried her best not to cry.
Piper had done a good job, all things considered. She didn’t have a lot to work with, and Annabeth had told her to just do whatever she needed to. Still, it was short— shorter than Annabeth could ever remember having it, falling just below her chin.
Even Piper had only had a grim look of satisfaction when it was finished. It was functional— and not damaged, for the most part— and that would have to do.
But breaking the news to Percy was somehow the worst part of it all for Annabeth. She knew he liked her hair, like running his fingers through it and pushing it behind her ear and brushing it out of her eyes. Cutting it off felt like a betrayal somehow, like she was giving up, accepting defeat, like she’d let Tartarus ruin this one simple thing they’d had together after it had already taken so much else.
But the way Percy was looking at her now was… unexpected. She’d anticipated the surprise, but now that that had faded away, she wasn’t sure exactly what he was thinking. She’d thought he would do a bad job of pretending to like it— acting his heart out, of course, swearing he’d always liked it this way just to try and make her feel better— but instead he was just… looking.
She couldn’t quite read his expression, and something about it made her nervous. But she couldn’t find it in herself to speak, even if she desperately wanted him to.
“It looks really really good,” Percy said finally, reaching out and running his fingers through the short ends. He had a look of careful consideration on his face, like he was examining her curls the same way he would a complicated math problem, or a puzzle. “It’s different, but it's not bad.”
“Are you just saying that because you’re my boyfriend and you have to?” Annabeth asked. He smiled, twirling his finger around a lock of hair. He could actually do that again, because the one thing the lack of length had given her in return was a slight return of her natural texture. Piper had promised it would come back stronger with time, but Annabeth wasn’t holding her breath.
“No, I’m not,” he said, and it sounded sincere, at least, “I mean don’t get me wrong, I love your hair long, but it was a little… you know.”
“Burnt?” Annabeth supplied. Percy blushed a little, but he didn’t look away.
“Yeah,” he said, sheepish now, even as he forged on, “It looks a lot healthier like this. It makes you look healthier.”
“Are you saying I looked sickly?” Annabeth teased, though there wasn’t much bite behind it. She knew she looked sickly. Percy still looked a little sickly, and he’d bounced back physically much more quickly than she had.
“You know what I mean,” Percy said, unwilling to fall into her trap. Annabeth sighed, knowing he was right.
“Yeah, I do.”
“Hey,” he said, tilting her chin up just slightly, so she was looking him in the eye, “I’m proud of you. I know that wasn’t easy.”
“You’re proud of me for getting a haircut?” Annabeth asked, looking up at him reluctantly. He was smiling, because of course he was.
“Yes. Yes I am,” he said, pressing a kiss to her forehead, “And hey, it’s just hair, right? It’ll grow back eventually.”
“I guess,” Annabeth sighed, leaning into his touch, “But I have to look like this in the meantime.”
“You mean you have to look absolutely adorable in the meantime?” Percy said, grinning again.
Now this was what she’d been initially expecting, the unwillingness to admit that it was anything other than cute and perfect, but somehow it felt alright coming after the sincerity. He was right. It was going to grow back. And it wasn’t really so bad right now. She believed that he actually liked it, at least, and that made her feel a little better. A lot better, actually.
“Yeah,” Annabeth said, letting herself smile a little as she looked up at him, “I guess so.”

Number 3, "Why do you always have to act like that?" <3
Did not proofread this, sorry lmao. This is post tlo percabeth btw:)
read on ao3
The rain had stopped just an hour before he’d arrived at Annabeth’s school, the roads slick with water. Oranges and reds clashed with the newly-cleared blue of the October sky, dead leaves flying in the air, stamping against the windshields while leftover water sprayed from the passing cars. An art piece that had come to life.
And here Percy sat behind the wheel, watching the comings and goings of girls in posh uniforms and oversized sweaters. He’d been busy staring at a random squirrel in the middle of the road when he heard a tapping on his car window, and with it came a voice that he knew all too well.
“Hey, are you my Uber driver?”
She sounded distant, thanks to the boundary that the glass imposed. But still he grinned, facing her. He rolled the windows down, letting the fresh air invade the small Prius.
“I’m an Uber driver, now?”
Annabeth raised a thin eyebrow.
“Well, I’m not sure, actually.” She pretended to check her phone, then back at him. Her eyes danced with amusement. “I think the Uber driver in the picture they sent me looks cuter.”
He gasped. “Impossible.”
That made her laugh, leaning into the open window, close enough to see every single freckle that dusted across her face.
She looked good. To be fair, she always looked good. But something about the autumn breeze, rustling her hair that matched the golden leaves draped over the sidewalks, made his heart beat faster.
“So how much am I supposed to charge for the ride, madam?”
“Aren’t you supposed to know?”
“Not really.”
She sighed. “As you can see, sir, I don’t have all day.”
“Uh, please don’t ever call me ‘sir.’”
“And please don’t ever call me ‘madam.’”
The sight of her just inches apart from him, all rosy-cheeked and bright-eyed, was extremely inviting. He played along anyway.
Percy had always thought that dating Annabeth would be too different, a step too big from what their relationship had once been. And in part, it was different. They went out like any couple, they held hands, he could call her his girlfriend, could kiss her anytime he wanted. But he realized that, above all, they were still best friends. If he thought about it, nothing had really changed.
“Okay, well...I guess I could accept cash, but—”
Her eyes widened comically. “Oh my gods! It’s a shame, then. I don't have any cash!”
“Hmm, then I guess you’d have to pay me some other way.”
She tilted her head, leaning closer. “Now that I think about it, that’s not such a bad idea.”
“Yeah?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“Even if I’m not as cute as the other Uber guy?”
She stopped, biting her lower lip. She had that cheeky smile on, the kind that drove him crazy. Especially since she was this near and this beautiful and he could only sit and watch.
“Well, there is one guy who’s, like, cuter than all the other Uber guys. Maybe you know about him.”
“Who could it be?”
She shrugged. “Oh, you know...just my boyfriend. I kinda like him a lot.”
“Kinda?”
She nodded. “Yeah.”
“Does this boyfriend happen to be waiting for her girlfriend to kiss him? You know, as she promised?”
“She promised that?”
“To be fair, it was kind of implied.”
“Oh. Then...it would be rude of me not to return the favor.”
Their noses bumped, earning another laugh from her, but she pulled away just before their lips met. Percy made a sound of protest, feeling deprived from the warmth that surrounded her like a treasured blanket. Her eyebrows pulled together, scrutinizing, smirk still intact.
"Why do you always have to act like that?" he whined.
She gave him an innocent look. “Like what?”
“Come here,” he insisted.
“Not unless you say ‘please.’”
“Please?”
Annabeth crossed her arms. “Eh, I suppose you’re passable,” she finally said, hovering in the open window once more.
“Excuse me! I thought you said that your boyfriend is cuter than—”
She shut him up by kissing him, soft and slow.
“So,” he said, the words breathed into the small space between their lips. “I’m passable, huh?”
“Something like that.” Her fingers threaded through his hair. Percy closed his eyes for a brief second, just enjoying the feeling. “Now, are you just going to let me stand here like an idiot or what? I’m kinda freezing over here.”
He opened his mouth in mock offense. “You’re the one who was taking all the time in the world, saying I’m passable or whatever—”
Annabeth kissed him again, then pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth.
“Does that convince you?”
He meant to say something smartass, or at least something dignified, but all that came out was an, “Uh...yuh.”
She snorted.
Soon enough, however, she left him sitting alone, not at all aware of how caught up he was, in her phantom touch, as she dashed toward the other side of the Prius. Or maybe she was aware. He was never sure with Annabeth.
When she stepped into the shotgun seat, Percy was already waiting.
“Hey,” he said.
He didn’t wait for a response, mouth already meeting hers, kissing her again and again, just because he could.
But they didn’t last long, their cheeks spread too wide from smiling.
Gods, I love her.
“Wow, Seaweed Brain. Someone’s...eager,” she said, eyebrows raised.
“I missed you,” he said simply.
Her gaze softened. “I missed you, too.” She averted her eyes, beaming, sunshine breaking through the clouds. “Even though it’s kind of only been a week.”
“And?”
She didn’t argue, instead choosing to reach for his hand.
“So where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“I hate surprises.”
“Too bad you’re dating me, then.”
“Yeah, too bad.”
He stuck his tongue out, and she laughed, his favorite sound in the world.
“But,” she said, “since I maybe like you—”
“Maybe?” he teased.
“Okay,” she smiled. “Since you’re my boyfriend—which means I really like you…”
“Go on…”
“Then I’ll just go wherever you take me,” she finished.
And who could say no to this girl?

Percabeth Wedding Headcanons
They considered not getting married as a fuck you to Hera, but decided a better fuck you would be to not let her rule their lives.
Annabeth wore a white suit with a blue tie and Percy wore a black suit with a grey tie.
There was a huge fight over who got to be whose bride's/groom's bitches. Eventually Tyson was Percy's best man, with Jason, Frank, Hazel, Nico and Leo in his crew.
Annabeth's maid of honour was Thalia, with Reyna, Piper, Magnus, Clarisse, Rachel and the Stoll brothers in hers.
Chiron officiated. Estelle was flower girl. Grover was ring bearer, and he began chewing the cushion halfway through the ceremony, while sobbing the most.
Coach Hedge held his club up threateningly, but his eyes were suspiciously moist too.
Calypso was the next big crier, sitting with her arms crossed stubbornly in a white vintage T-shirt and faded jeans, tears seeping out through the corners of her eyes.
Almost all the gods came.
Aphrodite was jumping up and down and cooing over them, giving Percy looks that made him turn bright red. She looked exactly like Annabeth to him now.
Apollo was sprawled in a front seat that he was not supposed to be in, and had dragged Will and Meg with him, Will smiling awkwardly while Meg chatted with Artemis about how annoying Apollo was.
Hermes appeared to Percy in the dressing room ("Do you gods have NO respect for privacy?") because he 'had a message for him.’ A message from him, George and Martha, for once, wishing him good luck. They chatted, and then Percy asked if he'd met Annabeth too, but Hermes stiffened and left.
Afterwards tho he and Annabeth came face to face during the reception, and it was awkward and silent. It ended with both of them in tears about Luke, but it was healing for them both. Hermes gave her her dagger back, and Annabeth was surprised and asked how he got it back from Tartarus. Hermes said Bob had found it and sent it up, and was on the lookout for her laptop too -
But he didn't get to finish, because Annabeth hugged him hard, and after initial shock he hugged her back.
The tension between Athena and Poseidon was palpable, and they were seated as far apart as possible.
Poseidon thumped Annabeth on the back so hard she almost toppled into the lake, booming "I should have known! My son and I seem to have yet another thing in common - a love for queens among women." And Percy turned red again. Poseidon gave Percy a huge hug, and went on to meet Sally Jackson. Poseidon took his son marrying a daughter of his rival better than Athena did, though.
When Annabeth and Athena met, there was some tension. It was difficult for Athena to admit she was harsh and unfair with what she said to Annabeth in HOO, and to apologize, but Percy put his hand on Annabeth's shoulder and stood behind her, even when Athena turned her piercing gaze on him and asked that she talk to Annabeth alone. He only went when Annabeth asked him to.
Athena told Annabeth she was proud of her, and added that there was a chance she might be as great, and even greater, than Daedalus. Annabeth knew this was her best attempt at showing affection, and appreciated it.
Athena then accosted Percy, on his way back with drinks, and gave him a once over and humphed. Percy didn't flinch or show any signs of being intimidated, and she raised and eyebrow and finally said, "I will admit, Perseus Jackson, that I did not think you a good choice for my daughter. I still have my doubts... However you have proved yourself more than worthy, and so I gave you permission to marry her. But make no mistake - if you hurt her, I will crack your skull open and extract every brain cell you have left, until you are a drooling, gibbering mess." Percy replied, "If I hurt Annabeth, she'll break every bone in my body before you even get to me. So I don't think you have to worry about that." They parted on fair terms.
Artemis met Percy and Annabeth together, and they had a short conversation about the merits of being turned into a Jackalope, vs the merits of being married. "Life as a Jackalope is more enjoyable than it would seem. However, you have chosen your bane, and against all odds, I hold hope for you both." she concluded.
Hestia was tending the flames when Percy and Annabeth went to meet her, both respecting her as the most helpful goddess of legit all time. She smiled and simply said, "Hope is stronger than ever now, Percy Jackson, for you now build a new and loving home - a rarer place than you would expect."
Mr. D insisted on making a speech, and making it out to Perry Jorganesson and Annie Bell.
The only god not present was Zeus. In fact, he'd banned the gods from going when it became clear that everyone wanted to go, but the gods' respect for him after the way he handled the HOO fiasco was in negative numbers so every single one of them sneaked out of Olympus. Even those who normally wouldn’t have gone went to spite him.
Hades and Persephone went as a couple. Hades sniffed and smirked, saying only that he was glad Percy was 'not my son's type, or I'd have to deal with you' (but he low key ships Percabeth). Persephone though, smiled radiantly and was one coo away from fangirl squealing. Before they left, Hades gave them a note from Bob.
"Bob saw two stars already. They were next to him in Tartarus. Bob says hello." Percy and Annebth sobbed for fiat that, holding each other tightly. They made a point of mapping every single constellation that night. They almost cried again when they saw the Huntress above them.
Hephaestus's eyes twinkled, and he said, "I see that trap in Waterland worked after all - even if not in the way I'd intended."
Ares just grunted that Annabeth had a better weapon (the dragon fang sword) than the last time he saw her, and took his sunglasses off to glare at Percy. "Now there are TWO goddesses who'll kill me if I snuff you out."
The highlight though was Hera waltzing in, smiling smugly like she'd set up the whole thing, and eating a slice of cake, turning a seashell-and-flower arrangement into a cow because it 'looked better, and brought back memories'. She left soon enough, but not before the cow had left a warm gift.
Grover gave his blessing as Lord of the Wild, Rachel gave hers as the Oracle, and the gods fully expected Percabeth to ask for one of their blessings next, but instead the two turned to Sally Jackson and asked for her blessing as the 'supreme goddess'.
The ceremony was in the pavilion, and the reception was around the canoe lake at twilight. The trees around the canoe lake were hung with fairy lights, and Juniper and the dryads had ensured that the sweetest, most fragrant flowers grew. Seashells decorated the venue. Calypso had brought moonlace that began to glow and smell even more beautiful as night began to fall. The Hecate cabin had enchanted sparkling butterflies to flutter around them both after it got dark. The naiads sang in voices nearly as beautiful as the sirens, although lighter and airier. The pegasi flew in formation.
Bessie the Ophiotaurus as well as the Hippocampi were in attendance.
Percy and Annabeth did their first dance underwater, and kissed before resurfacing. Everyone looked around for the dance floor, but couldn't see a thing, when they realized - the lake was the dance floor. Percy had managed to magic the lake, with favours from the naiads and Poseidon, into a liquid dance floor that rippled different colours with each step.
Their wedding day had been on the last day of camp, with the whole camp invited, so with nightfall came the camp traditions, but even better.
There was the fireworks display of course, but with Leo's help it was doubly glorious and even began to tell Percabeth's story. Annabeth looked like she'd die when it began showing the Thrill Ride of Love part of the story, because "It doesn't matter if we're married Percy! It's still embarrassing!"
Camp fire was even more cheerful, what with the gods and mortals allowed in for the first time, and of course Piper+Leo and the Stoll brothers played pranks - it was funnier than it would have been because their pranks overlapped and backfired on each other instead.
Instead of wedding bands, Percabeth were married with camp beads - an owl and a trident artistically intertwined in a silver thread carved heart, designed by Rachel. Hazel summoned the silver and some jewels to embellish them - and this time, she knew, somehow, that they weren’t cursed.
Of course the cake and all food and drink was blue, as well as the flowers, the wedding party's outfits, and (on Annabeth's request as a surprise for Percy) the guests’ clothes. Aphrodite went super overboard with that, and even Artemis succumbed to a small blue flower and fang accessory in her hair.
As soon as the dancing and music ended (as soon as they could get the mic away from Apollo), the activity underway was Capture the Flag with Percy and Annabeth leading opposite teams composed of their bridal parties+friends. Coach Hedge and the Hermes, Ares, Aphrodite and part of the Apollo cabins along with a bunch of minor god cabins went on Annabeth's team, and Will, Meg, and the rest in Percy's. The gods sat it out (some had to be physically restrained) as did Grover, the nature spirits, animals and mortals (Rachel had to be dissuaded from entering armed with plastic hairbrushes and improv lighter-and-spray flamethrowers).
Nobody won. Instead of crossing over the boundary line when they met with each other's flags in hand, Percy and Annabeth started making out. Clarisse could be heard grumbling about it later.
Grover and Thalia stayed back long after everyone had left, and the four of them spent time together until four in the morning.
BTW Annabeth proposed to Percy right before he was about to propose to her. They both looked at each other in surprise for a solid minute, and then burst out laughing. It was impossible to tell who said yes, or if any of them did, but they didn't need to.
They’d both gone to Tyson for the engagement rings. Tyson was confused at first, but promised to keep their secret from each other.
Grover on the other end of the link just stopped mid conversation with the Council of Cloven Elders and Dionysus, and bleated loudly in relief, "FREAKING FINALLY." out of nowhere, and while everyone looked bewildered, Dionysus though just took a sip of diet coke and rolled his eyes, sighing, "Took them long enough."
They proposed to each other on Percy's birthday. Annabeth had baked another blue cupcake ("I'm getting better at it, too!") and they were cuddling/play fighting/sprawling on the sofa late at night in Sally's apartment, talking. They sat with their legs crossed together, devouring the cupcake with their fingers, talking about their plans.
Annabeth mentioned that she'd designed this new building for New Rome that she was SO excited to build (Reyna had contracted her as New Rome's architect), and asked if Percy wanted to see the design. Percy agreed, and she retrieved a roll of paper. Annabeth began to explain enthusiastically, and, pointing at the center of the design, said, "And this is my favourite part." Percy leaned in further to see what she was pointing at - at the heart of the temple, where the altar should be, was a blue-silver ring with a wave design over the words "will you marry me?"
Annabeth looked almost anxiously at Percy, but he looked blank. Finally, Percy uncapped Riptide, which she hadn't noticed was poised in his hand as if he was going to point or correct something on the sheet, and instead of expanding into a sword, it remained a ball pen - with a simple silver ring etched with the words "Wise Girl" around its tip.
They stared at each other, stumped, before exploding in laughter.
Sally and Paul came running from the next room, Estelle copying them and giggling in Paul's arms, worried that it was a monster attack. When instead they saw Percy and Annabeth laughing and hugging, each wearing a ring on fingers covered in blue frosting and looking as if they couldn't quite believe it, Sally burst into tears right there and had to explain to her concerned kids, laughing, that these were happy tears because secretly she still couldn't believe that they had all found their happiness and it was something she'd only dared to dream of because it was everything she ever wanted for her son and she was happy to and oh how long had she waited and worked and hoped for a happy ending for all of them but never really expected it and this was too much -

29 combined with 32 for percabeth? (You're writing is awesome btw)
#29 & 32 perfect kisses (set in soulmate au: aka 1st kiss we never saw)
Annabeth flinched as the door slammed shut behind Percy, cautiously looking over at him and watching him pace back and forth.
“You good?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. She glanced back down at the pages open in front of her, trying to do some research, but he seemed to have other plans as he started whining.
“I just—” Percy stopped for a moment to stare deeply at her before resuming his rushed walk in circles. “It’s not fair! Why are we the ones stuck in this time loop? We’re being forced to die day after day, and we have to act like it’s okay when it’s not!”
Annabeth blinked, leaning back in a wooden chair. She held her hands up in a calming manner, doing her best to talk him down from the ledge. “What happened?”
Again, Percy stopped, but this time it was a few feet in front of her. “I went to go get us some coffee because we’ve been up all night, but—” He broke off, his hands moving to cover his face. “The girl’s name was Sophia.”
Annabeth’s heart sank, and she wasted no time in standing to wrap her arms around him. He rested his forehead against her shoulder despite their height difference, and she ran her fingers through his black hair, aware that it wouldn’t do anything to soothe the ache he felt.
“This isn’t fair,” he muttered.
“I know.” Annabeth smiled sadly. “I know.”
She understood the pain he was feeling. It was never easy, knowing that death was right around the corner. They should be able to go across the street to get Starbucks without having to relive the wounds that were still too fresh.
It was the place they both met — the place where everything began.
To see their daughter that wasn’t really theirs was excruciating, but there was nothing either of them could do. They could only be there for one another.
“She looked so much like her,” Percy cried. “If Sophia had grown up, she would’ve looked exactly like her.”
Annabeth’s heart tugged painfully in her chest as she fought down the lump in her throat. She didn’t say anything because what could you say in a situation like this?
“She wasn’t even technically my kid,” Percy said. “I don’t know why I feel like this at all — it’s just — I can’t even describe it.”
“I know what you mean,” she said quietly, rubbing his back. “I know.”
Percy stood up suddenly, wiping at his red eyes. “I’m sorry. You shouldn’t have to sit here and take care of me when you’re feeling just as bad.”
“It makes it easier, knowing that I’m not alone.” Annabeth grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together and squeezing. “The universe threw us into this lovely loop of death, but at least we’re together.”
He squeezed her hand back. “Together.”
And so she sat there with him in silence, letting him know that he would always have her shoulder to cry on. They didn’t know why they were stuck, but it could wait just a little bit longer, because right now, they needed to just be with each other.
It took a while, but the shared tears finally stopped. The world would not pause forever, so they decided to get back to work. They read book after book with a renewed vigor, a new urge to figure out why they were where they were. Hours passed by and they didn’t even so much as glance at a clock because when you keep coming back to life, time seems to lose its effect.
Annabeth felt Percy’s eyes on her, so she looked up with a slight smile. He seemed distracted by her, viewing her with so much tenderness it warmed her bones.
“Do you need something?” she asked, laughing slightly.
Percy bit the corner of his mouth, smiling back. “I just thought of something funny.”
“Do tell.”
He stood up and she felt obligated to follow. He led her a few feet away from the table they sat at, hands resting on her shoulders. She had no idea what he was trying to do, but when she asked, he ended up just closing his eyes and shushing her.
“Do you feel it?” he whispered out of the side of his mouth.
“What am I supposed to be feeling?”
“The energy coursing through you.” He opened his eyes now. “I think we might’ve been probed by aliens.”
Annabeth scoffed, shoving his hands off of her. “You distracted me from my reading to give me a completely bullshit explanation?”
“You looked like you needed a good laugh,” he admitted. “Did it work?”
“I’m cackling,” she said, clearly not cackling.
Percy snickered, shifting his feet.
Annabeth tilted her head to analyze him. He was a really sweet person. He was in so much pain, wanting everything to be over, but he was still here trying to make her feel better. He was putting her before himself, and he has been since they first met. He was truly too good for this world.
In that moment, Annabeth felt a sort of electricity in the air. It was like they were being pulled together as they stood in front of each other.
They looked into each other’s eyes, and she knew what was going to happen before it did. It might’ve been a long time coming at this point; the bond they had built was too strong for this not to happen. It was only a surprise it didn’t happen any sooner.
Annabeth had pinned so much on the universe at this point, but it was true. There was a magnetic force between them, pulling them closer and closer until the point of no return. For the first time, she doesn’t mind.
She couldn’t bring herself to tear her eyes away from his lips. They were so close, only mere inches apart, and his lips looked so soft and warm and inviting. His own eyes were at hers, flicking up to meet her eyes — perhaps asking for permission he didn’t need.
They were slowly pulled together, Percy’s hands cupping her cheeks, and then he was kissing her long and soft. They moved as one, and Annabeth felt tingles travel up her spine.
Everything about this was just — perfect.
He poured as much affection as he could into the kiss, and neither of them could breathe. It was as though some unseen force had put them together, but now, it was just them. It was them that decided to stay with each other, to love one another. That didn’t fall on anyone but them.
Once they finally parted, they touched their foreheads together, both of them breathing heavily. She could feel Percy’s breath hitting her lips, a gentle reminder that through everything, he was there.
Annabeth couldn’t bring herself to open her eyes. There was still tingling sensation in her lips and on the back of her neck, and she felt so weak in this moment. If she opened her eyes, she knew she would be overwhelmed with love for this boy she managed to find through all this hell.
“God,” he muttered lightly, his own eyes still closed to take in this moment together.
“Yeah,” she agreed.
Percy’s lips ghosted over hers once again before he pulled away for good. She opened her eyes and was met with the utterly smitten look he had on his face.
Right then and there, looking into his eyes, Annabeth made a decision.
She would never leave his side. He was the one person chosen to stick with her through this hell, and even if they couldn’t find heaven —
She’d walk through hell for him a thousand times over.

Rick's attempts at making Jason as powerful as Percy were stupid. Percy needed a CURSE in order to kill a titan and still had help but Jason singlehandedly defeated a Titan? A lesser Titan, too. Jason has never gone up against a god like Percy and won. Jason never survived Tartarus. The gods didn't offer to make Jason a god because they didn't fear him as much as Percy. Percy became praetor in a matter of days when Jason tried to be praetor for years.
(a healthy reminder!) jason was meant to be the center protagonist in hoo along with leo and piper, but he got to narrate in tlh, hoh and boo. he didn’t know who he was in tlh, his contribution in hoh is to be the person nico has to forcibly out himself to, and jason’s entire series started and finished in the first 4 chapters of boo.
that being said, rick’s “attempts” were awful considering his “having to go back to the three demigod POVs that started the series” because instead of focusing on the new demigods as he supposedly wanted to do, he made percy and annabeth the center focus of half the series (son was more about percy than frank or hazel, which is sad considering this is the first and last time their characterization meant anything to both rick and the fandom, moa was about annabeth, and hoh was a disaster that centered around percabeth being in tartarus) but then he got upset when people wanted follow through on percy and annabeth, and i don’t really fault them. instead of using the series to dive into backstories of demigods like jason, frank and the rest of the romans, rick’s priorities remained on percy and annabeth and it lead to him doing every character a major disservice.
you don’t know if jason’s gone up against a god. if you say “well it would have been mentioned” i don’t buy that because i have, in total, maybe a book and a half of information on him, most of which was him narrating without his memories. just because percy needed the curse (a greek curse, btw) in order to defeat kronos doesn’t mean that’s what jason needed. there are multiple ways to kill a titan, and it’s perfectly plausible that jason was able to singlehandedly defeat a titan in a way that percy and the greeks were not aware of. if rick had given jason a proper backstory, we could have seen that.
percy surviving tartarus versus jason was a choice on rick’s part, not jason or percy’s. it was the author’s choice, and it goes back to what i was saying about rick being a hypocrite and putting the focus on percy and annabeth and act like it’s the fans’ fault for wanting a follow through. pathetic. i still think to this day that it shouldn’t have been percy/annabeth in tartarus. we’ve had a whole series of them defying the odds/stepping up to do what’s right, and that was time and character development that should have been given to jason/piper/leo/hazel/frank. and since i’m already being bold, i genuinely think the solo quest in moa should have been given to one of those five as well. i know how smart annabeth is and what she’s capable of. i know percy and annabeth have been through a lot and are able to survive. there was no question about it. hoh was just a waste of time because it was 1) horrendously disorganized and 2) didn’t tell a story i didn’t already know the outcome to.
like i said in a previous ask, the roman gods never communicated with their kids, much less interacted with them the way they did with their greek offspring. they were afraid of making anyone pontifex maximus because that would be comparing them to an emperor, who was known as a gift from the gods himself. ‘pontifex’ is also known as the pope (pope francis’s twitter handle is literally @pontifex), the leader of the entire catholic church. the gods clearly left a title like that to each their own to elect. it’s a big deal yet no one cares to mention it. i’m fairly certain that the roman gods hardly assisted their children in the titan war. i doubt there was, or will be, any discussion as to whether they should make a demigod into a god. that’s a greek thing, bruv. that doesn’t mean jason’s accomplishments are any less extraordinary, but we’ll never really know.
finally, i’m assuming the role of praetor is one that, once elected, you serve for life. meaning that the only way to become praetor is for there to be a vacancy because the previous praetor died. jason says he and reyna were made praetors after the titan war, which hints at the idea that before then, the post was filled by two other people who died (or stepped down) after the war. jason also states time and time again that he never wanted to be made praetor, but they did it anyway. when it came to percy, there was already a vacancy that needed to be filled, hence by percy was made praetor, also against his will. neither percy or jason wanted to be made praetor. it was really a matter of vacancy, or better yet, jason did so well leading the army in the titan war they made the previous praetor step down to give him the position, but there’s no way people would accept that narrative. it makes jason “too powerful.”
