Prompt 271
“Grandmother is visiting,” Damian suddenly said with no warning and with his usual not-quite demanding tone.
“Who?” Tim wasn’t the only one to startle, seeing as Bruce had practically froze, a downturn to his lips in a silent show of confusion.
Damian scowled. “Are you deaf Drake? Grandmother is coming to Gotham to, quote, make sure I am being properly cared for.” None of them had known that Ras was with anyone actually. At least Tim was pretty sure that would have been in the files.
“Oh?” Dick didn’t quite crouch to Damian’s height but it was a near thing. “She-” “He,” Damian corrected, interrupting him. They all exchanged a glance before Dick continued.
“Is he coming to the Manor or…”
Damian scoffed again, a tiny bit of a flush against his face. “No, Grandmother will most likely be staying with Akhi-”
Now wait one moment-
“YOU HAVE ANOTHER BROTHER?!”

I think its a rite of passage to make an au at least once, and ive been thinking super hard about how Sonic raised tails lately. So obviously an age swap au had to happen. Aka, the au in which they are both team turbo nerd and Tails needs a Vacation as a dire medical suggestion. (more rambling in tags)

One thing I wish I'd see more of among Ratio fans is some thought about how he views himself as a teacher.
Like yes, of course he refuses to compromise on the quality and rigor of the education he imparts, and he would find it unforgivably unethical to lower his standards in order to pass more students who had not genuinely learned the material. This is core to his character.
However, as someone who is a teacher IRL, I know the absolutely miserable feeling setting that kind of standard can cause. There's the obvious disheartening sense of disappointment ("Are students these days really not capable of doing the work correctly? Is our future in danger, if this is the highest level of understanding our current generation of students can achieve?"), but even worse than that is the self-doubt.
"Is this somehow my fault? Am I not teaching this material in the right ways for the students to learn? Is there something I could have done differently to get through to these students? Would a better teacher have a higher passing rate?"
We know that Ratio does (or at least did) struggle with feeling inferior to the Genius Society, so I think it is also likely, as much as he absolutely will not budge on his academic standards, that he has doubts about his teaching ability as well.
This is the man who wants to educate the entire world to cure the disease of ignorance, and yet only 3% of his actual students are able to get there. How can someone who gets so few of his direct students to a state of enlightenment hope to enlighten the whole universe? If so few students are successfully learning the material of a given class, doesn't that mean the teacher is doing something wrong?Would a better teacher--would a genius, maybe--not be able to impart their knowledge more efficiently and educate even the most challenging of students?
As someone constantly struggling with that balance between keeping academic standards high while also meeting the needs of today's students, I think the passing rates of his courses must affect Dr. Ratio much more deeply than I've seen fans discuss. I think he would question himself harshly over his class success rates, and I think he must be constantly trying to push himself to become the best teacher he possibly can be.
tl;dr: I hope one day the HSR fandom will stop sleeping on the fact that Ratio is an actual practicing professor who probably has astronomical levels of teacher angst. 😂

Ephenni man participating in a variant of the kagnoma wantouki folk dance. He has come prepared, wearing bell bracelets and belled and pheasant-feathered dancing shoes, and neglecting a tunic and cloak, allowing for the percussive slaps to his chest and stomach to be louder.
"Kagnoma wantouki" groups together a variety of closely related folk dances that occur across the Imperial Wardi cultural sphere, and beyond (the west + south rivers Hill Tribes, Cholemdinae, and Loberan North Wardi groups have also adopted and developed variants, and one western variant has spread to parts of Bur). The dance is performed differently from province to province (sometimes even from village to village) and goes by several more specific names, but it is distinguished as a collective from other folk dances by the commonalities of:
the dancers use their own bodies as a form of percussion, via clapping their hands, slapping their chests, upper arms, stomachs, thighs, and/or shins, and stomping their feet. The name of the dance itself refers to this.
the dance is otherwise dominated by rapid footwork (often emphasized with bells) and is accompanied by up-tempo music.
the dance can technically be performed strictly solo, with opportunities for partnering.
dancers provide some vocalization.
As a folk dance, it serves no direct religious function and is mostly performed by people with no formal training at social gatherings (this is a mainstay of weddings in particular, but occurs at everything from religious festivals to funerary feasts).
Drumming is the only strictly necessary form of musical accompaniment, but many variants/performances make use of tambourines and rattles. Use of a two-stringed bow instrument is common in the west and south. Chanting by the dancers and singing by a musical accompaniment and/or onlookers is a near-necessity, with a specific call and response form of song developing in tandem with this dance.
Costuming (if used at all) varies by region, but belled shoes decorated with feathers are common (for this and many other dances), and men who come prepared for the occasion usually go with a skirt and a nude upper body (baring more skin to make the slaps more percussive). It’s very common to see men fasten their cloaks around their hips and slip the upper half of the tunic off their arms and down to the belt when joining in opportunistically. Costuming for women requires less specificity and usually lacks the feathered shoes.
The dance can technically be considered unisex, but most variants show slight differentiation of choreography for men and women (in large part aligning to typical dress standards). The feminine variant involves active use of the skirt and less slapping, usually limiting it to claps of the hands, slapping the hand of a partner, and a specialized move during rapid percussive sessions in which the hem of the skirt is lifted by the non-dominant hand while the opposite leg is repeatedly kicked up and slapped on the shin in time to the music.
When dancing with a partner (which often occurs opportunistically among a group), both will face each other and attempt to move in time and punctuate the high-tempo sections with slaps of each other's hands. This dance has no particular connotations of courtship (while some other folk dances are at least Rooted in this and require man-woman dance partnerships with very strongly differentiated choreography). If anything, it's slightly more typical for people to partner up with a dancer of the same gender.
It's very common to see 'dance fights' develop between men in particular, especially when two higher-skilled dancers match up and attempt to outdo each other. This is a semi-formalized aspect of the dance, where the competitors will alternate between 'leading' for each section (punctuated by shifts in tempo and shouts) while the other attempts to match their movements as closely as possible, 'losing' the match if they can't keep up. A good quality fight in action will be deferred to by other dancers, who will circle around them and clap in time (while particularly canny accompanying musicians will improvise more complex rhythms, and singers call attention to it). These 'dance-fights' are almost always friendly in nature and often considered to be the highlight of a kagnoma wantouki, either as a showcase of the highest skilled dancers in a group or as a very, very entertaining spectacle when one or both are drunk.

Haunted Streets
There’s a ghost on the Gotham streets. It’s been a long time since he came here yet no one has noticed. He stays out of the way for the most part. Just a shade. He looks to be somewhere in his 20s. The funny thing is. Only villains and crooks ever seem to be able to catch a glimpse of him. He doesn’t attack. He doesn’t try to interfere with their work. He’s just there. But he’ll listen if they need someone to talk to.
There’s something in his eyes. Something sad. But he never looks at the rogues with anything less than respect. No fear, no disgust, no pity. Just…understanding.
It’s almost therapeutic to talk to him. He never dismisses someone’s ideas as crazy. And he’ll even offer suggestions. The villains don’t know if he just stopped caring for those around him or if he had that much confidence batman would stop any fatalities. They know injuries bother him (if they stop targeting people as much, no one says anything). But he’s one of the few people who will sit and listen to them rant. Whether it’s grieving a lost wife frozen in ice and missing her, rambling about various new riddles and traps they want to use, complaining about the current society and their views on metas, or even just venting about a bad breakup. He’ll always listen.
Sometimes all anyone needs is a hug. Especially when no one wants to hug a 10ft crocodile. But the ghost has no reservations. His hugs are the only time he’s warm.
Eventually, all the villains of Gotham (and some beyond) have a silent solidarity when it comes to this ghost. They don:t talk about him to others. They give his frequent haunting places wide birth in their attacks, they give a rundown to their henchmen on what is and is not ok to ask him if they ever meet the ghost. And they never interrupt if someone is already speaking with him (unless the ghost drags them into the conversation because they need a hug too.)

Yeah let's also cancel Lewis Hamilton for meeting and having conversations with Putin... Yeah... Also maybe Seb too because he was also there???? Yeah... Right...some of you have never had a job where you had to talk positively about someone you didn't like or approved just for the sake of keeping that job.
idk which time ur talking about hamilton and putin meeting up and making friends, as the only time i can find that they've interacted was at the 2015 russian grand prix where putin was giving out the race trophies. hamilton, vettel, and perez were all on the podium for that race. correct me if im wrong and theres another time theyve met, but thats literally all i can find.
now, first of all, there's a big difference between having to interact with a political figure on a race podium, and choosing to interact with them freely out in the paddock, taking pictures with them, and praising them in additional interviews. there's also a big difference between being polite to the current leader of the country you're in that is known for killing/imprisoning people who speak out against him, and actively supporting an ex-leader who has (as far as we know) never actually killed someone for not being supportive.
if you ask me, it would've been unsafe for hamilton or any of the drivers on that podium to speak out against putin at that moment or act impolitely. on the other hand, the biggest trouble norris could get in for not praising trump and taking pictures with him is maybe a talking too back at the mclaren HQ. like, lets be real, it would be ridiculous and insane of mclaren to fire norris after all the time/resources theyve put into his development, especially now that its finally starting to pay off. it would be like shooting themselves in the foot, a move thats generally reserved for ferrari's strategy team or sauber's pit stops.
furthermore, you are simply assuming that norris' job wouldve been at risk in this situation. not once has it been implied that he was threatened or coerced into this situation. its even less likely that that has happened since piastri hasn't made any comments or taken any pictures with trump as far as i can find. for all we know, it could've been norris' idea to do all that. so, not exactly the strongest defense here.
and even if he had been forced into the corner and told to take pictures and play nice, he also took it a step further to compliment trump in other interviews saying it was an "honor" and there's a lot to "respect" about trump. hamilton has never come out saying any of that about putin. in fact, he has come on the record since then condemning putin and his actions. can you tell me where norris has come out condemning trump and his actions? no? that's funny.

Blaha makes me always want to start eating drywall because they're so....fjdjd
Blythe is the star of the show; she can charm basically anyone, can haggle them better deals, can make the most of locked up information sources viable - she speaks in double meanings with ease and does it elegantly. She prances around dressed in expensive and fine clothes, with delicate materials like stockings and still looks put to the 9s.
Raha isn't that, he's none of that. With being neurodivergent, he struggles with social interaction, and prefers limiting it. He always chooses comfort over form in clothing, they're always incredibly utilitarian. He'd prefer camping in the woods than stay at an inn, somewhere he'd be uncomfortable AND have to pay. But he hath bewitched her because he's...earnest.
Blythe with all her talking usually ended up attracting like birds. People who double speak, who are the most suave when talking but are liars, people who's word is sweeter than their action, so to be met with someone who....is none of that - who wouldn't lie to her, who would spend 4 hours cooking just to be able to make her her favorite food, who would knit her a winter sweater, who would genuinely want to protect her. It's new and...how can someone be able to resist that. And he IS knowledgeable, and won't be patronizing - she loves to find out new things and he is a treasure trove of extremely obscure information on botany and monsters.
So of COURSE she likes him. She can be all that, but when she turns around there's someone a constant that will always be truthful, always stand by her, always want to listen. He prefers being an audience, and she the star, so both are happy with the roles

Everyone else is home now so my cartoon marathon is over, but I think I might rewatch S1E7 on my own because there's a scene in that episode that I think really captures the Finn feelings for my fic Sea Change.
On the other hand, rewatching S2 reminded me that I wanted to write a crossover fic in the werewolf AU where Alpheus gets bodyslammed because he's dumb enough to run from a werewolf.

something that pisses me off in RA is that Flanagan will occasionally hype up Pauline as this super important and prominent figure in Will’s life, even treat her as a proxy for the mother he never knew, and yet will just refuse to show it beyond the like. two or three (personal) conversations that they have in canon. I get that he was attempting to make her an important person in Will’s life but why not do that by actually making her an important person in Will’s life
#hey Flanagan I hate to tell u but just because she’s married to Will’s father figure does not automatically make her his mom figure#what REALLY annoys me is how easy it would have been for him to connect her & will#like hey. if only there were a pretty clear gap in Will’s education that halt couldn’t fulfill - say for example mmmm diplomacy?#(cause we all know how gifted halt is at conflict resolution)#then he’d have a valid reason to seek out a master of diplomacy for lessons in negotiating compromises & treaties#but no I guess not. Will’s just naturally good at diplomacy despite never really being exposed to it#yk what extra sucks?#if Pauline HAD taught will about treaties & stuff then him receiving the last name treaty wouldve been 1000x more meaningful#it would’ve spoken to her influence on him and solidified her as a sort of parental figure in her own right#AND as an extra extra bonus: if she came to the cabin to teach will about negotiation tactics and such#then we could’ve gotten more halt/Pauline interactions. as in: we could’ve actually seen them being in love ON SCREEN instead of just being#told that they loved each other#will could’ve had a chance to see how much the two of them mean to each other. and then he would’ve had some actual basis for a speech#at their wedding or whatever#but yeah no why do that when we can just imply that will & Pauline got super close off screen? same effect right?????#ranger’s apprentice#pauline dulacy#halt o’carrick#will treaty#I love these books so so much don’t get me wrong. but there are just some things……#anyway.#jackie rambles

ok but playing this silly elevator mini game collection and finding out the silly and cute wood guy and stone guy are divorced and the stone/cement guy is the problem but has managed to spin the maddest smear campaign on his ex-husband after he became addicted to wet cement and caused the divorce is so-
PLUS! i have been in the grey cement fuckers house! bro is not put together, he's just tall and talks mannerly, bro is BROKE!!! and poob's house is a great comparison to know that the npcs there have actual lived in apartments. Wallters house that he hopped off has NOTHING in it but tons of empty cans of grey stuff/wet cement and a single unopened loaf of wonderbread while his exhusband who was 'totally the problem' is an honest working guy with people that look up to him and a broken heart and who has been banned from n establishment for crying over his ex-husband who got addicted to wet cement and is pretending HE is the problem im-
on the exhusband/woodguy. he is so sweet and just wants people to appreciate his work and his hat and him he gets so down when he realises fleshcousin doesnt actually care about his specially made hat and etc like. he needs eternal love and freedom from this smear campaign!
anyways that wall guy is broke addicted and, according to talks with spud, spends his nights drinking even more greystuff/wet cement??? brooo
----- stuff i need to find myself ---
apparently folly noted that his brain is crumbling into cement?? and he claims he is fine?? bro he must've been able to tell will he drown in his delusions to the end
-------------
when will this endd and i also hope it doesnt bc this might be tragic. so is it better to watch wallter being in a state of addiction forever?

Every character on this show struggles with feeling unlovable because they're somehow broken or dirty or just put together wrong but for my money the real winners in this terrible competition are Claudia and Armand. There are, I think, a lot of echos between them especially in showverse- parental abandonment, abuse, being rescued and remade by vampires. Armand was one year older than Claudia when a vampire found him in a terrible situation and brought him home. So naturally just as Claudia finds someone she thinks could really love and know all of her Armand is going to kill her in the desperate hope of keeping someone who might love and know all of him.

I think of all the LIs, Sylus may be the one who's most open-minded to sharing and could even come to love the other guys, too.
Though considering who and what he is and where he comes from... does that also mean there's a chance he knows of their future selves (namely Zayne and Rafayel; Caleb we don't know yet) before they do?
