[A while back I wrote an AU where Dew was a regular human who happened to fall in with the church and eventually became a ghoul of his own volition. Well, now, I'm back on my bullshit, and this time, instead of having him join the group right away, you get this.] Below the cut.

-Dew is a hobbyist photographer, he still does tech work/music as his main gig, but he also takes pictures.

Thing is, he tends to capture things in his photos that can't be seen by the naked eye, but he usually writes it off as him not being very good at taking photos, crappy lighting, etc.

Anyway, he's doing some behind the scenes sort of candid photography and takes some pics of the ghouls (Mist, Alpha, and Omega to be specific) because they asked him to get a couple for them to share privately with close friends/family, and Dew obliges, because why not?

Well, when he goes to look back at the photos, some digital, others on film for aesthetic purposes, something isn't quite right about what he's seeing.

At first, he pretends the photos got damaged/his SD card was fucked up, and the ghouls are bummed out, but it's whatever, and there's still some cool/fun background shots that made it out unscathed so it's all good.

But Dew is fucking terrified, because wtf?

-He manages to hide the other photos, fully intent on discarding them somehow, because he isn't sure he's supposed to see... whatever it is he's seeing.

So he makes the decision to burn them the next chance he gets, and, in the meantime, he's pretty insistent on NOT taking any photos of the ghouls, and keeps saying his cameras aren't working/have no memory left and all that jazz, which works for a little while, but then Omega gets suspicious.

Omega knows Dew is always taking photos of things, but he's being a bit sneakier/shy about it, and that's not like him at all.

When Dew finally does go to burn the copies he has of the photos... Omega films him doing it from a distance on one of Dew's own digital cameras and waits for Dew to sort through his camera and find the video.

But when Dew does find it, he doesn't even react, he just kind of watches it while Omega is sitting there, waiting for something, anything, any indication that he's even remotely nervous... but he gets absolutely nothing.

...Because Dew's camera is actually broken this time, as a result of him accidentally dropping it out of his bunk that morning.

-Anyway, it all kind of culminates with Dew being asked to take some pictures for Papa and, yeahh... It's kind of hard to say no to your boss, so he does.

And he makes a valiant effort not to freak out or panic whenever the photos come out ever so slightly off/messed up, and then the ghouls insist on taking a group photo with him in it.

Dew hands off his camera to someone else and they take the picture and... it's fine?

The ghouls all look like they do normally, and Dew is so relieved that he really does think it's just his own shitty skills/lack of talent, and while that's mildly upsetting, it's better than thinking he's taking pictures of actual demons.

However...

-At some point, Dew is talking to Mist about something, and brings up that he's thinking about maybe taking a class on how to take better photos, and eventually confides in her about how most of his tour photos were messed up or weird, and she asks him to show her.

So he does, and he explains that they only seem to come out that way when he takes the photo, but not when anyone else does, and Mist tells him to take a photo of her, then close his eyes and look back at her.

Suffice it to say seeing the irl flesh version of a still image he captured of a demon has Dew on a one way trip to the infirmary, because man passes the fuck out.

Chanyeol's birthday party was pretty low-key to say how popular the stunning rapper was but he liked it that way. Seren's Studies: The Odd Squad UK Gadget-Making Competition Video

I was originally going to make this into a longer post where I discuss Odd Squad UK more in-depth, but to keep things simple (and to avoid frying my brain), I'm going to keep this and another post separated. They will be linked, though, so keep an eye out for an edit and a reblog in the coming months.

We got a first taste of OSUK a little over a week ago, and with it came quite a few things to dissect. Because Season 2 can't be the only season that gets something UK-exclusive that never made its way to the States and never will. Curl up, try to cry, cry anyway.

Join me below the break as I make a Thanksgiving feast out of mere crumbs. Or try to, anyway.

Those of you who have been in the loop might have seen the BTS photos of the UK Headquarters on Instagram. This is what I can safely assume is the bullpen, going by the seal, the desk on the right with some kind of a green form, and...well I mean fuckin' look at it.

As you can see, it's an incredibly stark difference from the Headquarters seen in the past three seasons, though this one looks similar to S1 and S2's, for, y'know, obvious reasons. It actually looks more like something you'd see in some kind of a government building, like your local city hall or the DMV, than anything else.

There's not even any sliding doors either! Which is...well, I mean I watched Season 3, this surprises me next to none.

Anyway, this is our first look at a living, moving, breathing Captain Oooooooooooooh whoa what the FUCK is at the end of her ropes? Are...are those knitting needles? Stabby-stabs?

Okay, okay, someone else can answer that. I'm moreso interested in the smartwatch she's wearing, because Oprah and other Directors in the past haven't worn smartwatches. That, combined with how nautical she looks, donning upper clothing usually reserved for male Directors, and having a unique title, makes her have a rather unique appearance.

Jokes aside, we now get to the second newly-debuted living breathing moving character of this very short video: Orwell, a Security agent who's about as cheerful as someone whose entire family got run over by Cybertrucks. I don't know if I ever made this joke in any public form before, but in promotional images, he reminds me of Fin Tutuola and...well, with this video, the comparison just launched itself outta my head. Just a lil'. Not a whole lot. Only a lil'.

Yeeeeeah...I'm starting to see how this is poorly edited. Captain O's and Orwell's voices coming through two different audio channels instead of the same one, no BGM in the beginning...this weird-ass cut to Ozzie...I mean I don't expect high quality, but come now. For one of the first promotional things for Odd Squad UK, you'd think they'd do better.

This is just a regular-ass home, isn't it. Lookit that Backrooms-esque kitchen there. Lookit the hypnosis wheel ta- no seriously, whose home is this, and if it's Ozzie's, why? And if it's Headquarters...again, why?

So as you can see, Ozzie isn't in his Investigation agent suit here. Promotional material has shown that he's in that suit pretty much all the time, and given how Orli doesn't appear in this video, it's safe to say that we can plop it into the pre-series era.

This specific department had people in the fandom theorizing for the longest time about what it was. Was it a new look for the Creature department? An updated piece of clothing from the Mobile Unit department? A new department enti- oh shit, wait, that's actually it, isn't it.

Yeah, so if you look at the wings on the hexagon symbol there, it's clear to see that this is some kind of a flight department. I'm just going to quote part of the official show synopsis here, so you folks can get a view of what I'm trying to get at:

Not to worry, brand-new agents Orli and Ozzie are on the case. Their job is to solve the toughest and oddest cases now wreaking havoc across the land, sea, and sky (and even that hard-to-reach area behind the couch cushions).

I might as well spit out a theory (one of few, believe you me) that have been spinning in my mind like a nuked rotisserie chicken clinging to life ever since Odd Squad UK was officially announced as a project.

Okay. So. You guys know Captain O. Loves nautical things. Looks the part. Has assistants who look like sailors.

What if -- and hear me out for a moment -- what if she has a boat? One that can travel across the sea and across the sky?

For land, that's what the tubes are for. That's a nonissue. But for missions that involve going out onto open water or going high into the sky...that's what the boat is for. And if you have a boat that goes up into the sky, you're gonna need some agents who deal in flight matters.

Headcanon accepted. If you hear screaming at any point this fall, assume it's me.

See, with Odd Squad, child actors can be hit-or-miss. Some, like Dalila Bela and Millie Davis, knock their roles right outta the park, sometimes even going beyond their abilities and really getting into character (for those two specifically, Olive and Oprah are relatable to their personalities as actors, so it makes things easier). Some are okay -- they're neither good nor bad. And some just don't have the range.

The kid playing Orwell here...is on the latter end.

I get it. It's a video out of a twelve "testing the waters for another season or series" episodes of a UK-based spinoff series in a franchise that keeps going nose-down. I shouldn't go in expecting top-notch quality. I'm setting the bar low, as are a host of other people. And I have absolutely no disrespect against the kid who plays Orwell, because for God sakes, I have standards. But twelve episodes of stiff, the-script-might-as-well-be-in-the-damn-hands-when-filming acting like this is gonna be really hard to stomach, especially since Orwell is a main character.

Getting back to gooder things: this "yeeeeeeah, obviously" bit made me laugh harder than it should've. There is no customer service persona for Orwell here. Concept is foreign to him.

Onom is, unfortunately, not in this episode. However, I do appreciate that the Lab is just as eccentric as he is. Not even Precinct 13579's Lab was this crazy!

So overall, this was...a rather disappointing first taste. Whether this sets the standard for the series remains to be seen, but I'm not all too hopeful. Maybe the September results video will see things improve.

That being said, the characters are at least pretty engaging thus far. I'll need to see them in action a little more to make any final decisions, though.

Like I said in the beginning, I'll be putting out a Seren's Study about OSUK when we get more info on it. I'm aiming for August, but it might come out in September when the results video does. We'll see.

Killing Stalking AU:

Okay when I read Killing/stalking I was a bit disapointed. Too much killing not enough stalking -_-

And so Imagine Luo Binghe who is a serial killer instead of wives it's girlfriends and instead of marrying them he kills them. And Shen Yuan, who bought the apartment just to observe such a thing ends up obsessed he calls the victims 'wives' till death do they part, and he has an obsession with the seriel killer.

Like bordering on gay but he's still in denial.

Already he has a list of all the names of the girls, Ning Yingying was the first and now he's up to Qui Haitang, already he counted that Luo BInghe was accumilating an anti-harem.

Shen Yuans room is FULL of photos, clothes, even HAIR of Binghe as well as Luo Binghe in a apron, bloody and cleaning up his mess.

Shen Yuan loved him. Quircks and all.

But he wasn't stupid, not only was the evidence of Binghe's crimes in this room, footage and videos of girls going into Luo Binghes house then NEVER returning, wanted posters and last places they were timed perfectly. A little plushie doll of Luo Binghe as well in a corner. But he also hid evidence around the city, places with his name on it, most were holding his anime stuff but after the first five lockers the rest were filled with nothing but Binghe's crimes. He never went back to the old ones, to obvious instead he would pay for a new locker and fill that one up.

And Sy whose still in the closet probably thought it was normal to react, esp seeing the stallion having sex with the women in his bedroom, with his camera Shen Yuan could see everything.

At one point it even felt like Luo Binghe looked up and locked eyes with him, it made Shen Yuans breath hitch. It wasn't possible, it was dark, lights out, and Shen Yuan shivered palming himself, so hard it was the point of pain.

And this was when he decided to get closer.

Shen Yuan wears a disguise, Luo Binghe didn't like men, only women. So Shen Yuan wears a wig, with a hat and glasses and actually nice clothes. He dresses nicer as a women than he would as himself, in just sweats and loose jumpers.

He sits at a cafe and watches a girl on Luo Binghes arm Wife #32 Shen Yuan couldn't believe he was sitting right next to them.

And each time he would get closer, changing his looks, and disguise, practically listening in. Listen to the lies Luo Binghe would say, his favourite colour? Song? Movie?

Shen Yuan saw into his house, he knew what Luo Binghes interests were better than these wives.

He got too close once, when a wife dropped her wallet, he picked it up.

"Excuse me?"

She turned with a sneer on her face, that was usually how people reacted to Shen Yuan, like he was gross. He knew he would look alright with decent clothes hair cut, but he had that attention before, he didn't want it again.

But seeing it was just a small girl with a face mask pacing her her wallet with kind eyes, the sneer fell away into surprise.

"Oh my gosh! Thank you!"

"It's no problem, I understand the stress of losing your credit cards and having to cancel them and start over- I'm overally clumsy like that aha."

Luo Binghe was staring at him, and Shen Yuan couldn't help but shiver at the attention.

At that moment thats when Shen Yuan realised something, back in the comfort of his home. He may actually like Luo Binghe...

well...it's just Luo Binghe, right? maybe he's just bi and only likes him?

Either way, he kept skirting around him, until the wife inevitably died and he sat at the cafe, waiting for Binghe with his next fiance-

"Hello, miss. I thought I'd find you here."

Shen Yuan held back a flinch as he glanced up, "Ah hello there, I kinda recognise you," Shen Yuan leaned closer as Luo Binghe sat down before him but internally he was freaking out.

Was he wearing the same disguises over and over!?

Did Luo Binghe figure him out!?!?!?

"My names Luo Binghe, and you are?"

"Um," Quick think of a name! "Xiao Gongzhu."

"Little palace mistress? Hmm suits you."

Like hell it does! But that was the only thing he could think off!

"I was just wondering," Luo Binghe looked bashful, and it broke Shen Yuan out of his thoughts, he looked so boyish it was cute.

"Could we trade numbers?"

What? He killed Wife #32 already? wait- was Luo Binghe seriously seeing Shen Yuan as a potential wife!?

This was bad- it was going to mess up Luo Binghes streak! He was the protagonist, he couldn't mess up because he was accidently tricked by a man!

Also the not-dying thing would be great and if Shen Yuan didn't go back to his apartment and pay rent then the landlord will come in and SEE all of his evidence, Binghe would go to jail!

"Uh yeah sure- I mean yes!" Shen Yuan spoke then grimaced at how flustered he was, even so he still couldn't believe it- Binghe's number!

Luo Binghe hummed "Hmm I'll put you as Princess, if thats okay I like giving pretty girls like you pet names. You can think of a name for me too."

"Hmm, I like Bingpup, you're like a cute puppy who deserves head pats!" Shen Yuan spoke and saw Luo Binghe's smile stiffened.

Shen Yuan immedietly preened aha thats right! Luo Binghe hates being called dog or mutt! He found out that Luo Binghe had an awful teacher who would call him that in school! He found that out by waiting for Binghe to take wife #16 on a date and bugged his house!

When they were getting intimate after their pillow talk Luo Binghe admitted such a sad thing.

Because wife#16 called him a good puppy during foreplay, and when she said she'd never do it again he agreed and said she won't then straggled her. Shen Yuan listened to that footage over and over again.

When Luo Binghe stood up, Shen Yuan giggled "Oh and one more thing." He stood up too, flipping his hair over his shoulder.

"If you think you can take me as the next wife, you can forget it."

Luo Binghe paused looking confused, "I'm sorry?"

"I know your type, playboy. You have a fiance wine and dine, but after the first night your the type to believe in death do us part." Shen Yuan emphansised the smile on Luo Binghe's face faded. "This is amazing, the Luo Binghe! I'm such a huge fan," Shen Yuan kept his voice low, so the other patrons at the cafe wouldn't here. "I actually liked Liu Mingyan, such a good girl she knew martial arts as well. Pity, but I don't plan to be accumulated into your 'harem' I don't like to share. No, I prefer to watch."

Luo Binghe eyes narrowed, "Do you think it's a good idea to be telling me this?" Shen Yuan looked at him with pity, "I can't help it, your so cute and I didn't want to lie to that face when I turned you down. it's not any of Binghe's fault, I just genuinly like to watch, if we cross that step I'm afraid I'll have to die of shame." Before he left he also glanced back, "Oh, and I'm a collector by the way, I have evidence all around Shang hai completely hidden unless I mysteriously disapear, someone is bound to find everything. See you around, Husband."

Shen Yuan flaunced away, knowing he was being followed, thank GOD for public bathrooms, he walked in, immedielty removing his wig, hoodie and skirt and pulling on his baggy and drabby clothes, and oiled up his hair to look more greasy and gross espeically from wearing a wig, he dumped the back in the bin and walked out, slouching and on his phone, he walked past Luo Binghe who stayed leaning against pillar waiting for the 'women' to leave the bathroom.

Shen Yuan still didn't trust it, hailing a taxi and purposfully going the awkward way to get to his apartment. Even then he decided to back track and couch surf on his friends sofa instead, just to be safe.

Even so, when he recieved a text from Binghe, vaguely threating him, promising he'll find him and kill him, Shen Yuan shivered feeling his breathing hasten.

"You can try, Husband."

So long story short, Liu Qingge is the policemen interogating his sisters mysterious death, finds Shen Yuan and believe him to be a victim of domestic abuse, and yeah both Luo Binghe AND Shen Yuan are playing cat and mouse the power imbalances keep changing, and at one point, Shen Yuan finds himself actually going on dates with Luo Binghe, even helping him take down a wife with his 'husband' it's such a rush. And for a moment even Luo Binghe felt affection for Shen Yuan and didn't care that it was revealed he was a guy, even started having some fucked up moments of his own, comparing Shen Yuan to his mother. Shen Yuan: Hello police? Theres a man with a milf kink send him to jail!

Even so theres honeymoon moments, SY actually spends a night in Binghes house but thats where it all goes wrong, SY is now a wife, he just doesn't die straight away, forced to being trapped in the kitchen dressed as a women and still playing their cat and mouse game as Luo Binghe is trying to force him to reveal his evidence, he claims he'll stay with Shen Yuan properlly if he does. And then SY at one point escapes the house, finds Liu Qingge and confesses everything and even gives him the keys to his apartment and the locations of the lockers with the evidence.

Luo Binghe finds him, says he saw SY with another man, had he grown bored with him?

Pretty much ends the same way as Killing Stalking both die in the end, Luo Binghe dying alone, and SY still thinking he's alive and is frazzled ends up going into on-going traffic.

-I think with the story it was supposed to end tragically, because neither were good people, but I just hated how the character in KS was reduced to an innocent uwu who was sexualised but didn't have a braincell- I would've preffered if there was some intellectual schemes, like KIRA VS L both smart people trying to one up the other and maybe just a hint of romance, delusion on both sides, Binghe finally seeing SY as his partner in literal crime but then because of jealousy ends up trying to kill SY after he's another Wife isn't he?

woke up at 7 but went back to sleep and woke up properly at 10. finished listening to slipknots’ the gray chapter while scrolling through my pinterest feed and got dressed into camo jorts + a skinless shirt and put on all of my bracelets. i love making up new outfits because i always theme the things i wear and make the colours match my shoes, jewellery, etc.

also, i had a pretty odd dream last night, so i’m gunna try and explain it. i met gerard way while i was just about to get to the venue mcr we’re playing in. he was really friendly and i took a few videos with him but then he obviously had to go and play. most of the dream was just me and him talking but i don’t remember what it was about. after he left i continued making my way to the venue and saw them play around 3 songs until i decided i was going to change for some reason?

so i went out of the venue to change and they wouldn’t let me back in so i didn’t see anymore of the show and it was really sad 😭 i woke up thinking it was real and i checked my camera roll for videos of me and gerard and then i realised.. lmaoo — i’m still mad it didn’t happen cuz like even though i only saw three songs that’s still three songs!! and i befriended gerard!! i think i had this dream because i was thinking about mikey ways instagram story before i fell asleep. but like.. he was SO NICE oh my god i know it wasn’t real but i honestly think this is going to trigger a gerard hyperfixation he was so much like how he is in videos and stuff

after getting ready i went to the garden to collect a few stinging nettles so i can make tea later. i ended up getting these weird spikey seeds all over my jorts and hair. there were barely any that weren’t turning yellow but i’m not too bothered because i don’t like the taste anyways, id rather have a smaller amount. i’m only having it because it’s apparently healthy and water makes me sick although it’s one of my favourite drinks.

once i got back inside i made a pinterest board dedicated to alt/punk diy’s i can try out sometime. ive started making patch pants/patches/bottlecap badges/bleached clothes [etc] + i’m currently collecting can tabs to make a bracelet/chain for my trousers but i don’t have enough and ive unfortunately lost my fabric paint for my patches. either way, i still like looking at patch inspo and stuff and i could try and use bleach instead of paint.

i came across a post of a soup can tab with beads threaded onto it with that bendy copper metal stuff and attempted to make one with a normal can tab and a skull bead id chopped off a bracelet i got for 10p at a bootsale. it didn’t look anything like the original and the photo i took of it [shown at end] makes it look 10x more horrendous than it actually is but it looks cool when i wear it.

after looking through some 2023 gerard pics i put fight club on because i’m finally not too tired/busy to watch it!! i briefly played roblox while watching it because i’m the worst at keeping my attention on one thing without getting distracted, i was just as bad while watching beetlejuice. i went out to living room to have something to eat [this feels so embarrassing to say omfg] and came back to my room to carry on watching it at 2:50.

it finished at 4:30 [i honestly thought i’d understand it better, but quite a lot of it just went right over my head. anyways, i liked the way the characters talked.] and then made my ‘this user’ posts, collected gifs for my future posts, + made them drafts up until 5:50 when i finally made my nettle tea. i thought i’d boiled the nettles too much like i usually do but it was actually really weak.

i drank about half because it was making my throat feel really weird so i went out to the driveway and sat with boris while i started making a basket thingy on depop. i think it was making me feel weird because the last time i made it [which was ages ago, i often forget how it tastes] id add honey while i’m boiling it. it could’ve just been too raw, or maybe it’s because of my heightened senses.

i found some really cute stuff. i added a monster energy beanie, a bat belt buckle, a beetlejuice pin [cuz i can never have enough pins], a bat necklace, a cookie monster cap, a long black beaded necklace, a blue fox cap, and a long sleeve black and red striped shirt that i’ve already made up an outfit for etc. after some time of that i went back inside and got ready for my walk. me and my mum walked around where my old primary school was so it was really nostalgic.

i ended up picking up like 30 blackberries because they’re starting to come out now and had a few after looking up how many cals they are. after being back home for like 10 minutes i watched my dad play natural disaster [it was hilarious he got so confused everytime he died] for like ages up until we had to be quiet because my sister was ‘trying to sleep’ so i watched a few clips of mcr interviews and cuddled boris.

i ranged from being in my room to cuddling boris for a while until i had a bit of a smoothie + went upstairs to ask my parents questions about boris. beforehand my dad was giving me advice for the lighting on this picture i took of the smiler when we went to alton towers at the start of july. i then asked the questions [took just about as much time as it usually would and came downstairs to boris at 1:20 [or something.]

i gave him his last meal of the day, told him about my day and finished saying goodnight to him at 2:14. i give him these treats he really loves every night but he was extra happy about me handing them to him today. i wrote the rest of my journal entry thing at 2:17 and went to sleep at 2:30. i am not excited to wake up early tomorrow.

Heyyy!!! Thank you for articulating this and actually, I think that’s eventually the plan. Look, my auntie used to work for two professional athlete as their social media manager (basketball players, 1 established nba starand the other 1 an up and coming nba player who is now in the nba). And i remember the up and coming nba star had a gf before and my auntie suggested to gently introduced her to his social media to curate a wholesome image for the player. You would think that that’s gonna “ruin” him for the fans (esp female fans) but actually, my aunt claims that introducing a long time gf in the picture will only make the female fans swoon. They like a good guy. A loyal guy. A wholesome guy. So that’s what they did. Just include her in some of the photos. Also asked the nba player to mention her more. And then get her more involved. Now, relating to Oscar. Remember he added a social media manager this year? Kym Illman talked about this in one of his videos. So obviously, Osc and his team are making deliberate moves to grow his social media following. What also *just* started happening more this year? Yes that’s right- Osc became more open to his relationship with Lily. He posts her more. He even tags him now. Literally the exact same plan as what my auntie did with the nba player. My guess/theory is they are going to gently open Lily to the public more. I think they are doing this delicately because this girl is not just some pr girl. This is actually Oscar’s gf for 5 yrs. So i think they are being very cautious about it. I predict that we will soon hear her voice and listen to her talk a little. Maybe just a short one but we will soon get to know her better (in a controlled way because i really think that Oscar and her want to keep their rs private).

But I agree. My auntie said that letting a longterm gf remain in the background and be mysterious is actually going to fuel more obsession. So giving the public just little bits of her and allowing them to get to know her personality better is a much better plan. It’s like eating small meals throughout the day rather than skipping meals and then binging at night. It also allows the gf to be less of an idea and more of a real person. Keeping Lily this “idea” can quickly become this overly sweet and toxic deification of her. She’s not an idea. She’s a person.

Also, it really helps with Oscar’s image. Trust. It also going to keep him out of the “gossips” and crazy fangirl interest/obsession. Since they like Lily and they like the fact that Oscar has been with her for 5 yrs, they are most likely going to not be romantically obsessed with him. They are going to adore the fact that he’s a wholesome guy and how lucky lily is to have a man like him. Instead of obsessing to be his gf. Something like that.

Also remember Nico Rosberg? Before he married his wife, he was with her for years and years. He is a party boy and yet we dont really associate him with the party scene the way we do with single Lewis. Lewis said Nico is more of a party animal than him and yet Nico rarely got that image. It’s cause the public knows him as someone who’s been in long term relationship. So Oscar’s team opening Lily more to the public (again in a controlled way) is good not only in making Lily less of an idea and more of a real person to the public, but also Oscar’s image. It keeps the crazies and speculations away.

NO TYSM ANON <3<3 fr like I've always been invested in how the women partners to famous men are treated in any fandom and it's always seemed by far the best tactic to offer up a little bit of contextualizing her into the fandom space - while maintaining a healthy distance for her own safety/sanity - and then before you know it she's fully accepted and all the delulus move on to another rpf ship or another man they want to pretend they could somehow have for themselves.

"less of an idea and more of a real person" EXACTLY. like god of course she wants to keep people as much out of her business as possible and if ppl could be sane and normal then the ideal would to continue as is. but a part of keeping those boundaries from being pushed by fans is a controlled release of content rather than nothing at all. and I totally forgot yea that he'd added a sm manager and that the opeightyone acc has become more active in the same way LN4 is where content can be released through those channels as opposed to their personal accs. I feel like apart from when his humor and sarcasm means that it's clearly him (and the emojis lol) he's pulled back for the most part from his public accs. it's a shame bc we won't get to see those interactions with other drivers anymore but w how much fame doesn't suit him it was probably inevitable!

Gyro's conflicting feelings about Boyd in 'Astro B.O.Y.D.'

Welp, like I said in another post, I planned to repost my posts from my defunct blog analyzing my favorite DuckTales episode 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' in honor of its 3rd anniversary this Tuesday. (I've already posted a two-part analysis on how Akita's treatment affected Gyro and how he rose above it, as well as Fenton's hero-worship of Gyro and why that probably made Gyro uncomfortable). It's such a deep episode with so much going on (writing, animation, emotion, heart, voice-acting, action, symbolism) that's easy to overlook, but I love to share what I see makes it so special in these posts.

**Long post ahead** (Quotes from the episode are in bold).

Throughout most of  'Astro B.O.Y.D.', Gyro never directly interacted with Boyd. He refused to speak to him, and he barely even looked at him. In one scene (it's from the 0:23-0:24 mark in the video), instead of telling him to have a seat so that he could examine his programming and memories, he just stiffly motioned with his head for him to sit down. It's subtle moment, but brilliantly subtle, because it spoke volumes on how Gyro wanted to acknowledge Boyd as little as possible.

This is because he made the 'mistake' of getting attached to him once before, and all these years he thought Boyd malfunctioned, destroyed the city, and cost him his reputation. In fact, before they left for Tokyolk, Gyro warned Huey against his new friend: "I understand 2-BO only too well. Don't... get close to it." He didn't dare talk about his experience, but he was trying to warn Huey the only way he could. Gyro had cared about Boyd like a son, had argued to Akita that he was more than just a robot designed to serve humans. When Boyd went rogue, a big part of Gyro felt betrayed. He 'realized' how naïve and idealistic he'd been, and that not only was it merely a machine after all, but a killer machine at its core. He transferred half the blame he had for himself, for what he thought was his failure, onto Boyd- most likely as a way of coping- and only saw Boyd as a failed experiment from then on. He always saw both of them as failures.

Gyro was not only terrified what Boyd was capable of, but I think he was also afraid of even slightly seeing him as the real boy he once did, let alone feeling any sort of endearment for him again. So, he emotionally distanced himself to protect him from pain and heartbreak all over again, as well as to keep himself from having second thoughts about his real motive of shutting Boyd down for good for everybody's safety (in other words, he was determined to take responsibility for his first and greatest failure in order to finally gain closure).

Gyro almost did suffer a moment of weakness when he came across an old framed photo of him and Boyd in Akita's old lab, in which it was clear they were very close (also, the crack in the middle of frame between Gyro and Boyd is subtly powerful symbolism of their damaged relationship):

The way he murmured “So idealistic”, it was obvious he was wistfully looking back on what was a better time (except for the way Akita treated him, of course). Back when Gyro was younger, bright-eyed, and full of hope (so very much like his intern). Before the whole ‘illusion’ shattered (not only the illusion of Boyd being a real boy and his son instead of a deadly weapon, but that the world was anything but a cold, cruel, and pain-ridden place), forcing him to become the hardened, cynical scientist he was for the last twenty years. Back when he knew what it was like to truly care about someone and be cared about. He missed 2-BO, the 2-BO he thought he knew. He missed the man he used to be, whose death he never thought he’d actually mourn. Maybe he even missed the bliss of such ignorance. And he definitely wished things had been different.

But then, of course he hardens his heart again and snaps himself out of it, tossing the picture away from him:

Later, Boyd pleads with his creator: “Dr. Gearloose, please! I’m a definitely real boy! Why can’t you see that?”

Now, look at Gyro’s expression below as Boyd addresses him. It’s not quite as hardened as it’s been throughout the majority of this episode, but definitely softened with guilt or regret (it’s subtle, but it’s definitely there if you look carefully). He’s actually directly facing Boyd this time, not avoiding his gaze:

After actually letting Boyd speak to him and hearing him out, Gyro realized he couldn't keep his past from Huey and Fenton anymore. It’s the only way they’d finally understand. At first glance, one might think his reaction was from the difficulty of revealing his most painful, shameful secret, and you certainly wouldn’t be wrong! But given the context of my above point, I think there’s even more to it than that. Gyro’s softer side about Boyd- especially after the little guy caught him off-guard by directly facing him with those hurt, confused eyes of a child (making it harder for Gyro to deny that his emotions are real, at least for the moment) and appealed to him so earnestly and innocently- likely broke Gyro’s heart more than he wanted to admit, filling him with regret for his intention to permanently shut him down. Not only that, but he decided he at least owed Boyd the truth before going through with it. He succeeded in not allowing himself to be so sentimental to actually change his mind (and maybe he was even tempted to there), but just enough to allow this last moment of kindness. Think about it- he easily could have ignored Boyd, and explained the ‘truth’ to Huey and Fenton after shutting him down, but he wanted Boyd to understand too!

After sighing, Gyro says- actually handing Boyd his tablet with the footage of what he thought was his core memory, so he could see for himself (which, again, he didn’t have to do)- “Because deep down… you're this."

Gyro explained that before Boyd suddenly turned evil and went on a destructive rampage city during a test of his systems, he was created to be Tokyolk's protector (like Gizmoduck became for Duckburg). Finally, Inspector Tezuka managed to take him down:

Boyd is horrified as he finished watching the footage:

Gyro's voice wracked with years of suppressed pain (and it's among some of the best voice-acting Jim Rash has delivered in the entire show, and there were lots of amazing examples of his in this episode), he told everybody, “2-BO was the first machine I worked on that turned evil, and I have spent my whole life trying to live that down! 2-BO, Boyd- whatever- is evil. Down to its core.”

Once again, Boyd looks right up at Gyro with those eyes full of emotion- now including fear- as he starts to back away from his creator. “But… you said you’d fix me. So I’d never malfunction again!”

And once again, Gyro bravely faced that poor, innocent face as he bluntly replied while advancing on Boyd, “Yes. By shutting you down for good.” And it is so frigging obvious from his tone (it may sound cold on the surface, but you have to really listen carefully) that he’s trying to fight the heartache and guilt he’s feeling. In fact, his tone clearly says ‘This hurts me more than it hurts you.’

Here's almost the whole scene where Gyro interacts with Boyd (almost- I can't find footage on YT for their exchange from the above two screenshots). Not only is the emotion in Jim Rash's voice-acting INCREDIBLE like I said, but the animation in the range of Gyro's body language and expressions is SO SMOOTH. In fact, I highly encourage you to closely look at the footage frame-by-frame- it's such a visual treat!

Lucy's Side Quest #8: How much is too much?

Motivations: I've been pretty open to y'all throughout this year that I'm interested in being in love, and finding a partner. So... I made it a goal this summer, once I got back to Boston, to go on 10 dates on Hinge (have y'all seen the 50 first dates girl on tiktok? [1]).

Method: Two weeks ago, I updated my Hinge profile to reflect more of who I am now: using photos from dance and ring ceremony, and changed the prompt answers to be much less verbose (I used to be so open to these strangers!). I took 1 week to let the algorithm soak, and then 1 week to go on actual dates. This meant, sending out a bunch of likes per day without really looking too closely at any one profile or agonizing over what to slide up with, a method I came to now that I understand more of how the world runs in Hinge [2]. The matches trickled in slowly, and I challenged myself to one standard only, which was don't be weird about this. Then, naturally some matches matriculated to texting and then to meeting up in person!

Preliminary Outcomes: I set up three dates early on this week and just went out without too much thought. The first guy was fun to talk to and cute, and the second guy matched me on a more fundamental creative level. They were both new to Boston this summer. Both dates were on Commonwealth avenue, and consisted of eating then walking around Boston in the nighttime afterwards.

Both dates ended well, and left me feeling happy! Objectively, they were definitely better Hinge dates than the ones I had in February this year. Yet, I was not so eager to the point that I couldn't wait to see them again.

The third date! Though! Was yesterday. It was so strange in a good way. Even while texting this guy last week, I had a good gut feeling about him, like I knew could be myself. Maybe because he went to school in Texas? And having set up three dates, and knowing he was the last one, I felt the most excited about him. Thus, subconsciously, I saved the best date course(?) for this one, which was, instead of just getting coffee or lunch, go to a bunch of Sunday markets in Boston Southend and a supposed Little Italy festival in North end.

And I was right! Almost immediately, when I saw him, I felt a sense of comfort and a happy buzz? The date went so well, and Boston was being so lovely for us, including North end and the esplanade. And I'll skip the details, but I think I like him quite a bit, and it's strange to be on the other end again of this dynamic.

I remember two of the guys I considered seeing this year, and how often they wanted to meet up, so quick so soon. They were very clearly into me, and I didn't know it yet, but I know retrospectively, I wasn't as into them. And so now, I'm on the other end, and I don't want to scare him off, because duh, I'm interested in him, and thus I'm much more careful.

Thus, how much is too much? How do you show enough interest while respecting boundaries, and sharing a pace that works for both people? Texting, meeting up, doing acts of service for guys, inviting him to other things?

Or do I have to learn to play The Game? And resist the urge to show my feelings completely?

You know what sucks?

DR2's case 3 gets so much guff from people for sucking (and it does lmao) when we were actually on the verge of an INCREDIBLE rebuttal from the killer:

Saying Hajime did it.

Let's go right up to the part where Mikan is about to slip up with that camera angle thing. But instead of saying that, she just breaks down into tears.

"You're a bully, Hajime," she sobs. "Worse than anyone I've ever met! Maybe Hiyoko was mean, maybe everyone I grew up with beat me up, but you! You're the one who turned the only friends I've ever had against me!

"And you were a bully from the very start. You never let me use any of my conversation starters. You used that embarrassing photo of me against Teruteru even when I begged you to forget about it. Now you have everyone convinced that I'm some sort of killer?!

"They all believe you, too. You're so nice, Hajime. Everyone likes having you around. They'll believe anything you say. I used to think you were nice too - that's why I felt safe enough to wake up with you in the morning. That's why I trusted you when you said I was your alibi!

"But I was wrong. We were all wrong. We should never have believed you. Not when you used that trust against me. That alibi was actually your plan to frame me, wasn't it? And you used that trust against everyone else, too.

"Tell me this, Ultimate Liar. Why were you the only one who saw this supposed video? Why should any of us believe it was even real?!"

Cut to Hajime trying to say that video was real, and Mikan demanding proof of it. The most he can say is that it's how he knew to go to the music venue.

The others try to ask why the conference room and music venue were made to look like each other.

"HA! Is that all you have to say? If you were the killer all along, of course you'd know to go to the music venue! The video simply gives you a convenient excuse."

"Isn't it obvious? That was his back-up plan. Just like Peko and her fake serial killer persona, Hajime had his fake suicide video! He set that up in advance knowing he could always blame the only other person who'd be in the hospital - me!

The others would start asking how Hajime would ever have the time or opportunity to set up such an elaborate alibi.

"In the end, I was once again the target of a big, mean, hateful bully!"

"You all think I had enough time, don't you? Weak, clumsy, dumb, pathetic Mikan, suddenly able to kill two people under all of your noses!

"Now it's too complicated?! Now it can't be Hajime?!

"I might be the Ultimate Nurse, but I had three patients to care for! Nobody else stayed to help me, and the hospital was empty! With Fuyuhiko back at his cottage and the others quarantined in the motel, why wouldn't Hajime have all the time he needs to dress up both rooms?

Assuming the class gets tangled up in this enough to realize Hajime has just as much opportunity as Mikan, right down to having the same alibi, it'd be up to Chiaki or Nagito (probably Chiaki) to mention Hiyoko's death. Even if Hajime knew Mikan was busy caring for three patients, and even if he volunteered just to watch how busy she was, and even if he used that information to plan a back-up alibi, there's no way Hajime would have been able to pull off the imitation murder. They've already discussed it: Hajime hadn't seen Monokuma's film until the investigation started, and it isn't like anyone told him what happened -

"And with Nagito in such critical condition, of course I couldn't leave his room! No one knew that better than Hajime, who volunteered to get in my way throughout the day!! Then spent the rest of the night framing me for a video that doesn't exist!!"

"Oh?! Oh oh oh oh oh? What's this I hear? More trust in Hajime, more doubt in Mikan?

Cue the surprise about that, and Hajime's immediate attempt to counter it by saying Ibuki couldn't have -

"'Nobody told him what happened' - is that all you have left? Empty guesses? Because I know someone who could have told Hajime everything about that film: Ibuki."

"Couldn't have told you? Oopsie, looks like someone forgot Monokuma's motive! Ibuki had the Gullible Disease, didn't she? That means you could have made her watch the film, then made her tell you what happened.

"When do you think that could have happened, Hajime? Right after you slashed Hiyoko's throat, but before you strangled Ibuki? Did you need one final alibi to clean up after your mess?"

The timing, as improbable as it is, still checks out. Hajime had all night to do this, according to Mikan. Who's to say he didn't stop in the middle of his murders to watch a horrible film for inspiration? After all, the real killer left Ibuki hanging there for who knew how long.

"The worst part is that you undid everything I tried to do to help. Ibuki was starting to recover, but you strangled her - and tried to blame me, with my weak little arms! You made the concert hall so hot that I couldn't perform a good enough autopsy! You told me to take a rest at the same time you conveniently saw this supposed video, and used that as proof that I had time to make it!"

Nobody else has their ticket (that's why Nagito told Hajime to keep his) and Monokuma isn't telling anyone who's seen anything. All Monokuma will say is that Hajime put on a biiiiig show of buying a sticker to not see a movie that he ended up watching anyway!

The doubt should really be falling onto Hajime as everyone starts to wonder if this is true. Mikan is just such a perfect victim, and with how busy she was caring for the others, could she have really had the time to set up anything so elaborate? It looks more and more like Hajime or Mikan could have equally been the killer, and it's all coming down to who they simply trust more.

This is when Nagito would actually step up. There'd be a long silence before he asks why Monokuma told them Hajime bought that sticker. Back at the movie theatre, Monokuma wouldn't tell Hajime or Nagito who bought that tote bag. That was because the killer bought it. Doesn't that mean Hajime isn't the killer?

Monokuma laments his big mouth, but says Nagito isn't going to deduce his way into another hint like he did with the body discovery announcement. The reason Monokuma told them who bought the sticker but not who bought the tote bag was obviously because the tote bag was more important to the killer's plan!

But from what Mikan is saying, the killer purposely attempting to prove they hadn't seen the film yet would have been a big part of the plan. Crucial, even, because up until then, everyone assumed Hajime had seen the movie! Who on earth would pay $1.5 million for such a cheap sticker to avoid it? And even if it hadn't been the killer's plan from the beginning, it would've certainly been at the core by the time of the trial. So why does telling them who bought the tote bag reveal the killer's identity, but not the sticker?

What I like about that is how it gives Monokuma more of a reason to stop the Monokuma Announcements in the next chapter. Right now, it's kind of arbitrary. But if he got 'tricked' into revealing even more hints because he kept blabbing during the trials and investigations - with even Monomi chiming in to say all his insults did this to himself - then I could easily see him being like, "You know what? Fine. For this Fun House, you're completely on your own. No hints, no announcements, nothing."

But I also like that it corners Monokuma into admitting that the sticker isn't important to the killer's plan in the same breath as affirming the tote bag is. So reasonably, you could write your way back to the same Panic Talk Action and keep "Theatre Bonus Prize" as the same answer. :)

Anyway, the real goal is to have a trial where you know you didn't do it, but it's genuinely your word over somebody else's. With a theme of this being that they don't 'really' know anything about each other, so they can't 'really' trust each other, it'd throw a lot of those character dynamics into the air. The very next chapter has Kazuichi believing Hajime's the traitor, and then Hajime finding out he doesn't actually have a talent while also holding back everything else Nagito learns about them. I wanted more stuff building towards that theme...

... and I wanted Mikan to use the rebuttal that was RIGHT!! THERE!!

She's taking care of three people and is super tired and the autopsy is ruined and she's so frazzled and no one else saw this video and Hajime had the same opportunities WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST ACCUSE HIM OF FRAMING HER?! He had nothing to defend himself with until she talked about the stupid camera angle! THAT'S SO LAME!!

Now that I’m making an effort to stay on the expected story progression course instead of wandering out of fear of getting into major combat, something else I’m noticing from a game design standpoint is that…everyone here feels so…earnest.

I’d spent most of today wandering around the sister cities of Kakariko and Hateno, gathering sidequests and making an effort to go through everyone’s dialogue trees to try to get to know them a little better and take notes on anything I found interesting, and…even if some of them are kinda one-note asshats like the Cawlin-expy haunting the path to the inn or the mean gossipy housewives who’re blatant shoutouts to the gosspiy ladies on Windfall Island…they all very genuinely want to help you, to get to know you. Getting into that mindset Link has where he subconsciously remembered he came from here, that he already considered these people his neighbors even though none of them were alive before he died, it’s hard not to like them. And that’s saying something, considering Zelda has a tendency to not respect its NPCs very much, even though you’re tasked with saving them and their world.

Another thing I’m beginning to notice is how the devs use this earnestness to chain major and minor sidequests together. This time I’m making an effort to stick to the expected story progression of Kakariko > Hateno > Lanayru to avoid softlocking myself in terms of combat ability by overleveling the monsters, and it’s all felt very natural. For example, take Pikango. His first quest activates after you show your funky little camera app to Impa and she suggests traveling to the locations in each picture to jog Link’s memory. At that point, I’d already been to the fairy fountain, so the trek with him upward was just treading old ground. But then, at the end, instead of giving me a generic reward, he gave me information that was actually relevant and helpful to my next goal by giving me a hint as to where the first photo location is. A location that, in fact, is on the way to Lanayru, which is where I’m heading next. It didn’t feel like a waste of time at all, just a natural flow of information pointing me in a certain direction.

It reminded me of why I loved how Hollow Knight handled its NPCs. The “little people” around you might not be as powerful as you, or be on a grand quest, or maybe their story ended long before Ghost rolled into town, but they each were still respected by the narrative. Each of them had their own story, rather than just blatantly being a UI point for you to interact with for certain services or to move the story along. So when the time came for them to help you/you to help them, it felt less video gamey and more like two people deciding to help each other out for their own reasons. And nobody was a goofy “ignorant” character played as a joke, like how Wind Waker used “Triumph Forks” to make fun of characters who weren’t privy to the same secret knowledge you and the major players “in the know” were. In fact, nobody was truly “ignorant” at all. Everyone had at least one little piece of the bigger puzzle, even if they couldn’t see the rest of the pieces from their own limited perspective. In fact, it’s impossible to truly understand what’s going on in Hallownest without talking to everyone.

Granted, BotW still has a ways to go in the writing department before it can reach that level, but there were enough times when random folks surprised me with their insightfulness or earnestness that I’m looking forward to seeing where things go in the sequel.

But, also…seeing how “nice” the world outside and the people in it were reminded me of how sad I was about how un-personed and totally cut off from humanity Ganon was the first time through. How he’s referred to like an infection, a contaminant, a spot of decay on a once-healthy national body instead of a person. Not only that, but now I’ve got a question in my head that first seeded itself from the moment I started speculating on TotK’s backstory. Just how awful was the ancient world that Ganondorf would come to hate absolutely everyone in it? And to the point where, even after it ended, he continued to lash out at its people’s descendants in its memory, no less?

having music critic thots abt the weeknd im so so sorry

i saw the weeknd in concert last summer, it was amazing. i really dont like stadium shows usually, but his was killer, he had a cool stage concept (gently mad max-ish cult leader and his dancer-disciples, giant inflatable moon) and he's got the presence to fill up all that space. and ive been listening to him for almost a decade, obviously the music's there. actually the show i was at was where he debuted the trailer for the idol. its out now and i havent watched yet. i thought it looked cool then, but after everything ive heard.....im just really ambivalent.

in the early days, when he was keeping mysterious, no press, no photos, you didnt even know if the weeknd was a band or a guy. just this chilly, atmospheric, sleazy/sexy horror-movie r&b. nothing supernatural. but cruel. the lyrics were all about the worst kind of fuckboy shit, and obviously drugs, and the music really seemed to give proper weight to it. the speaker in the songs was awful, the music was telling you that his actions were violent and terrifying for the women he's hurting and for toxic for himself. if youre a person attracted to men, you know what its like to see how awful a guy can be and still be into him, maybe even BECAUSE of how awful he is. thats a fucking horror movie. those first xo eps are crazy, i still listen to them.

then he goes pop star. i remember the collab w/ ariana grande in 2014 was surprising but it found a perfect, plausible midpoint between their two universes. then he goes full max martin in 2015 with "can't feel my face" and again, bizarre to see this plausible way for the prince of darkness to get to the top 40 via a neo-michael jackson jam with a veiled drug reference as opposed to multiple explicit ones. but it made sense! he danced onstage now! i remember hearing it on the radio when i was picking my cousins up from middle school, that felt surreal.

and he just kept on doing the popstar thing. i dont think the sleaze ever really left, it just receded into the background. killer atmosphere, more pop hooks, a general darkness that felt credible coming from him because of the early stuff, its just lit with neon now. he gets increasingly more conceptual, which i love. i love a concept album. its still about fucked up relationships and now death more generally instead of drugs specifically. cool, great. i've been with him the entire time. that brings us up more-or-less to the present.

This entire situation ruined the SMA moment and left a sour taste. Not only because the SMA wave didn’t even get the space and time it deserved (we can’t deny it was a great shoot and he looked GOOD) but because his actions, and everything to do with this situation, is like a complete 180. I was looking back at photos and videos of the shoot, and he didn’t even let himself have the moment. He should’ve been riding this exciting wave for the rest of the year into 2023, and it’s been ruined by this entire situation. It is a superficial title, we can all agree, but I know a part of him, deep down, felt validated in some way, especially because his lack of confidence oozes off of him, his body language and in the things he says. I don’t care what he says, he know a part of him was very for the recognition.

When I say the “situation” ruined the moment, I don’t necessarily mean the “relationship” they so call claim they have (I don’t buy it, a couple in love seeing each other for more than a year and being so serious would not look like that. And we’ve seen the videos-everything just looked awkward, weird, desperate and suspicious) but the way it’s all come out and what those photos and videos actually portray, and it’s not the romantic love story they’re trying to sell, but instead what’s become so visibly loud is a sad and brittle “situationship” that’s being so overworked and dressed up to appear like a real relationship. Maybe they were in each other’s orbit; we in the fandom know they were. We have the proof. And a very trusted blog has photographic evidence that she was romantically linked to another guy simmer this year. So we know the story they’re pushing is dog poop and that’s is working way too hard to cover up for something that just smells way too suspect.

The SMA means nothing now, not when all this new negative stuff is being unearthed and publicly thrown in spaces where it can now hurt them, and their reputations. And if he doesn’t, he better hold because the cycle will restart and continue again, and each time, it only gets worse. I just hope they both learn something from this, grow up and move on. No harm to either of them, but we all have to learn those big people lessons at some point while we’re here.
