Skeleton Crew - Can’t Say I Remember No At Attin Thoughts
"Perhaps someday, when I am leader of the Triok, I will remember your ways. I see now. You weakness...it makes you kind. And my world could use some kindness." Hayna
Tumblr media
This was a pretty noice follow-up to the last episode. It was a lot more focused on the character interactions as home seems to be ever far away.
Those satellites at the opening look very much like the ones used for Operation Cinder. Given some of the Imperial-looking uniforms (especially the Imperial Army Trooper helmets) in the episode and the destruction of the world, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. But Jesus, if their world was destroyed by Operation Cinder, that's one hell of a dark backstory for At Achrann. Especially given how Jod even said,
"This is At Attin? It tastes like ashy dust. Looks a lot like my home planet, actually." Jod Na Nawood
It has to be Operation Cinder unless the satellites are part of a similar barrier system (or the world could've been hidden by different methods). I also wonder how bad Jod's world must've been for him to make that comparison. I can't wait for that Episode 7 Jod lore.
Jod's "kill me" look and line delivery just killed me. He's so sick of this BS now lmao. I honestly thought he and SM-33 kicked all their asses but it just turned out he just gave them Old Republic credits haha.
Also very interesting that the Hattan army seems to have a CIS tank as well alongside the Imperial Army Trooper helmets. The world must've been destroyed and known to the galaxy for quite for some time by that point.
Neel is pretty brutally honest about his friends, lmao. I love seeing his kindness shine through in such a hellish, war-torn world. I also like seeing his brief friendship and relationship with Hayna, who only knew war and nothing of a possible peaceful life. Plus unlike the girl he had a crush on in Episode 1, she actually knows who he is. Given how Episode 3 focused a lot on KB and this episode on Neel, I wonder if Episode 5 will focus on Fern and Episode 6 will focus on Wim.
It's pretty sad how the Triok and Hattan are stuck in a forever war and only trading for weapons, especially given the implications of the world being a victim of Operation Cinder. The idea of child soldiers being normalized in the world is pretty disturbing much less how desertion is met with death even applied to kids. I still find it insane to see on-screen aftermath of Operation Cinder in this episode, especially on this show.
Tumblr media
I also like how we see that for all of Fern's tough front, and she's just as scared of being truly lost forever.
SM-33 continues to be a comedic riot even when we see him being terrifying. God, when SM-33 was remembering his old Captain's orders and his voice started distorting into a nightmarish tone, that was pretty chilling. I would like it if the treasure was actually a legit stereotypical pirate's treasure.
This was a noice follow-up episode and I hope Episode 5 continues to expand on the mystery of At Attin.
Tumblr media
"I do remember At Attin. It was in this very room. The captain killed any of his crew that saw the coordinates to At Attin. Slaughtered them, he did. Then he ordered me to destroy them and forget everything I knew about At Attin. And then he told me, if anyone ever comes around poking around, looking for the treasure... He told me to pull them apart. Pull 'em apart. Pull 'em apart. Pull 'em apart. Limb from limb. Limb from limb. Limb from limb! Limb from limb! Limb from limb! Limb from Limb." SM-33

If you grew up on a crappy neglected planet you’re allowed a little showboating as a treat.
(Genuinely tho, I love both characters and the parallels are there!)

Mommy, does Hayna escape from her ghoul in the end? [...] and my mom still hasn’t finished the story for me.

I keep seeing takes on how the child soldiers were unnecessarily edgy for Skeleton Crew, but here's the thing:
The actress who plays Hayna? She was 13 when Skeleton Crew was filmed.
Ahsoka was 14 when she joined the front lines of the Clone Wars. Caleb was on the front lines at 14. Ezra was 14 when he joined the Ghost crew. And yeah, you can talk about how of course Star Wars has child protagonists when it's trying to appeal to a child audience, and about how it hits different in animation than in live action, but the fact remains: Star Wars has always had child soldiers. What's surprising about Skeleton Crew isn't that young teenagers are fighting wars, it's that its protagonists got actual childhoods.
There's a moment in Port Borgo where Melna the dancer sees Fern and KB and says "Are you--are you children?" and on first watch I thought her confusion was that she's Theelin and doesn't have a great grasp on how to read human ages. But now I wonder if that's not it at all. She knows they're roughly 12. But she's lived through the fall of the Empire. She's used to 12 year olds who know how to pick up blasters and fight. Seeing 12 year olds who act the way she expects much younger kids to act--that's the confusing part to her. Are they children? They're acting like little kids, but in her world they're old enough to be treated almost as adults.
They just missed the war, that's all. And what that says about the rest of the galaxy breaks my heart.

So I watched Skeleton Crew
AND I LOVE IT
LIKE
PIRATES
It's so much cooler than I thought it would be. I love the main four and there's so much to find and figure out especially with Jod.
And of course the music slaps. More spoilery things under cut (for all 6 current released episodes)
Ok first off I love KB, she's my favorite. (She's autism coded ngl)
Also KB lore drop in episode 6??? Like girl what was the accident?
ALSO WHAT THERES ONLY TWO MORE EPISODES IN S1???
Ngl it kinda bothered me how they didn't pronounce the T's in At Attin.
Ah yes. Jod, Silvo, who is this guy?? (Also i know they mention Silvo in the first ep but I can't for the life of me remember what that bit was about.)
HE SAID THE QUI-GON QUOTE your focus determines your reality LIKE WHAT
Also they've used "kriffing" twice now and that makes me really happy. It is part of my daily vocabulary and I even heard one of my best friends say it and j was like what (i think all she knows is that it's a star wars cuss word) ANYWAYS
I need Jod backstory like now. He's a Force user, and he knew the Qui-Gon quote, and he has a lightsaber, but how did he get to where he is in the show I NEED ANSWERS
Speaking of backstories I also need full KB backstory. I love how she has two moms. Also what the kriff happened to Wim's mom? It seems like with such a perfect (too perfect) society she'd still be alive, especially since it seems KB had a terrible accident yet she was saved by technology. So what about Wim's mom?
And I also love how determined the parents are to break the rules for their kids, it's adorable. Also who the kriff is the Supervisor. Watch it be like the Red- something pirate dude (I'm kidding)
Speaking of the pirate dude (cannot remember his name rn) how long ago was that ship crashed? Cuz like Jod knows about him, but there was also a whole lot of growth over the ship? Granted Jod could have just heard and read about him not actually seen him. Idk.
Yas Neel you preach peace to the whoever clan they are, with Hayna or whatever her name was (why can't I remember). He's so precious.
Wim's name is so silly I love it. He's a silly little guy i love him.
Fern is such a character oh my gosh. At first I didn't like her but with the character development I'm liking her more and more.
Also (last point) At Attin is way sus. Too perfect. Actually all the At planets are sus (once again I need backstory). Also the beginning episodes didn't really feel like Star Wars, especially the like suburbia bits and stuff.
Anyways yea i think Skeleton Crew's really cool, better than I was expecting. I really like the piratey music, though they do lean a little too hard into the aesthetic to feel completely like Star Wars, in my opinion. However it's unique, so.

SKELETON CREW FINALE THOUGHTS
Okay so. Literally just finished the finale episode of Skeleton Crew and wanted to record my immediate thoughts for posterity's sake.
I am so happy that we got some Jod backstory, it was 100% what I was hoping for too. Not a Jedi, but some Jedi teachings. Completely checks out and I am ecstatic. Trash fire of a man didn't disappoint at all.
The kids absolutely saved the day but in a believable way - like Neel using his knowledge from At Achrann???? 10/10 great callback. I hope we see Hayna again btw - and KB???? Absolute legend. Fern and Wim need to get better at coming up with stories and improv, but it distracted Jod well enough so I'll allow it. And obviously SM-33 coming in clutch as always.
Finally, Jod's smirk at the end??? Left me WEAK. I know this won't be the last we see of him, and I cannot WAIT to see what dastardly things he comes up with next.
I'll have more thoughts later, I'm sure, but as of this moment I just want to say how wonderful this show has been to watch. This is the most fun I've had with Star Wars in a long time, and I hope and pray that Disney realizes the gem they created here.
Also, still not counting out a Jod redemption. But we'll see.

Skeleton Crew S1E8:
I forgot her name, but the Owl's coming back, I think :D
Omfg, I forgot we left off on a cliffhangar. Somehow.
Oh, okay. He wasn't actually about to chop them up. Dramatic ass.
facepalms in Fern
It would be funny if the supervisor's Tak Rennod, though. I do love that theory.
Wendle. Dude. LISTEN TO YOUR SON.
Getting Imperial vibes from the Supervisor's chamber…
Oh, it's a droid. Yeahhh, that wasn't unexpected either.
Well, at least Fara's listening to her child.
THE SUPERVISOR KNOWS ABOUT ORDER 66.
Damn, the Supervisor's smarter than I thought. Saw right through Jod, though Idk how tf it thought those droids would protect it.
Oh, the Supervisor was also the source of power to the whole city, rip.
THE DROIDS ARE DOWN. Fucking finally.
"Get down here," he says, as if he's been waiting on them and not the other way around. Smh Jod.
Bath time's over, Neel.
OH, OKAY THEN. JUST BOMBARD CIVILLIANS, WHY DON'T YOU.
Oooh, they're gonna call the New Republic.
Oh, I guess Wendle's gonna help then. That's cool.
Damn, the pirates really just decided they were gonna enslave everyone.
There's something both really tragic and really inspiring about a handful of kids and Wim's dad going out of their way to save everyone. Especially watching them ride through the streets getting shot at by pirates. Kids.
"You kids know how to fly this thing???" Yeah, barely.
HAYNA. That's the owl's name.
Fern giving an inspirational speech about the rest of the galaxy to her mother >>>
Jod. Shut up.
The fact that no one's fixed SM-33 yet is depressing.
You, in fact, did not have him, Vane.
The look on Jod's face when Fern joined in on Wim's distraction story. The most baffled "what-the-fuck" expression ever. 🤣
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
THEY FIXED HIM! I AM SO HAPPY. I ACTUALLY CHEERED.
AND THEN ACCIDENTALLY RESTARTED THE EPISODE AND HAD TO GUESS THE TIMESTAMP.
Everybody loves good ol' 33. :D
Lmfao, I just realized KB is literally holding his head next to his body, that's even funnier. Glad to know nothing was gravely damaged internally. Systems are fully functional, he just needs to be reattached.
Heh, Jod actually looks regretful.
Anyway, KB and 33 are fine. The ship was level when it crashed. That was just debris from their surroundings.
Jod's lost it again. Damn.
Anyone else notice how he lashes out when the kids make him feel bad, and he tries blaming them when they're only reacting to his actions?
BACKSTORY TIME.
So, Jod was almost a Jedi. Barely a trainee. He probably felt like he'd been saved, then felt that ripped away. So yeah, he is jealous of the kids, because of his own childhood.
And all of those Jedi comments are reminding him of what could have been if the Empire hadn't killed the one that found him.
My man is traumatized. Except he took it wrong and went off the rails.
Wendle punching Jod in the face was still incredibly satisfying, though, let's be honest.
Wim igniting the lightsaber >>>>>>
Bye bye, Barrier.
Hello, X-Wings :D
AND B-WINGS.
At Attin's probably gonna join the New Republic after this.
Wim calling out for Jod to come with them, despite everything he's done 😭
THE FUCKING MUSIC??????
…Is the New Republic gonna help repair the city? Damn, man.
RIP Jod, probably.
Oh yeah, the Onyx got caught in a great spot, actually. KB's fine.
cue 33 carrying his own head lmao
Wim's gonna join the New Republic when he's old enough, isn't he. I saw the way he was watching those ships. I think he'd enjoy being a pilot.
Noooooooooo, it's over. I'm sad now. I actually loved this show way more than I thought I would.

Can we talk about the parallels between Skeleton Crew Ep4 ‘Can’t Say I Remember No At Attin’ with Obi-Wan ending up on Melida|Daan?
Like. I genuinely thought it was gonna be a future redo of that one til I realized the leader was an adult, thought that Hayna would be leader like Neild or Cerasi would have been to the Young.
Like. It’s just very. Similar. In a way, I mean. Like if showed similarities because of the world itself. Clearly it had infrastructure, but also they devolved into absolute war for so long that that civilization was all but gone.
It’s wild to think of.
It’s also wild to think that At Attin was like one of six (or was it five????) planets that got completely concealed????? That’s so wild. Like all traces wiped out. I kinda think maybe they were part of a 5-6 part prophecy somehow.
