Hayden Pedigo - Tiny Desk Concert

Had to dig deep into the Aquarium Drunkard archives to unearth the first time I wrote about Hayden Pedigo. But here it is, my late 2014 review of the Amarillo-based guitarist's Five Steps album. It's been cool to see his trajectory since then — awesome LPs, of course, but also a run for political office (and a subsequent documentary), fashion modeling and more!

One thing Hayden hasn't done a ton of over the last nine-ish years is play live — until now! He has spent a good deal of 2023 on the road, playing solo and opening for such heavyweights as Jenny Lewis and Devendra Banhart. And, praise the lord, he's wrapping up his current tour at the Lost Lake in Denver next week. I'll be there — will you??? (To sweeten the deal, my buddy/Prairiewolf bandmate Stefan "Golden Brown" Beck is opening the show. It's going to be a great night on Colfax.)

whatve you been listening to lately? got any album recs?

i recently found hayden pedigo, his album The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored is great. also recently revisted reign of kindo, a band i loved like a decade ago and still do. i've been listening to other good stuff too but those are your recommendations for today

My hot take is that I think Amarill-ians who get famous by anti-establishment / counter culture themes and media and then never come back to their community to fight or use their platform to fight against the establishments that are actively destroying their home community are embarrassing and should be embarrassed. *COUGH* HAYDEN PEDIGO *COUGH*

Prairiewolf Meanders West

As I think I’ve mentioned! That band I play in — Prairiewolf — is miraculously heading out of our home state of Colorado for a handful of shows out west. May 15 at Atelier Mill in Salt Lake City with M. Sage and Ben Swisher! May 17 at Beauty Supply Arts in Oakland with Chuck Johnson! May 18 at 2220 Arts in Los Angeles with Hayden Pedigo, Leslie Stevens, DJ Bob Holmes (SUSS) and Liberate Elemental Forces! Holy Moses.

While I’m still in slight disbelief that it’s all actually happening … it’s all actually happening! If you happen to be in any of these fine cities, please come out and say hello to your friendly neighborhood Prairiewolf. The Boulder Weekly just called us “cosmic country asskickers” — that’s the kind of acclaim you can’t buy, people!

Prior to kicking ass in Utah and California, we’ll be playing a local show at one of our fave haunts, Cellar West Artisan Ales in Lafayette on Saturday, May 4, 6-8pm. If the weather’s good, we’ll be jamming old and new jams on the patio. Great beer, great pals, great times. See you there?
