hey, chelle. I'm wondering if you like to read books irl? and if you do, what's the last book did you read?
I seriously need to get back into reading. I used to read nonstop when I was younger. Admittedly I don’t prioritise it nearly as much as I used to so the only thing I read these days is fanfiction.
However, the last book I read in full I believe was The Hawkweed Legacy by Irena Brignull. It’s the follow up book to The Hawkweed Prophecy. I think I remember feeling a bit let down as I had liked the first one a lot.

Autumn has well and truly arrived. I love this time of year. Everything about it screams all things warm and fuzzy. Having said that, September has been a bit of a slow month for me in terms of reading. Life has been chaotic and because of that, I’ve not really been in the mood to read a heavy fantasy book. My remedy for this, sports contemporary novels. Everyone should know by now that I love sports contemporary novels. They are the perfect books to turn to if you’re in the mood for a fun and light read that has plenty of heart. The Off-Campus series is an obvious choice for such occasions and I’m so happy to say that I have officially finished the series, despite the fact that I’m desperate for more haha.
The Score (Off-Campus #3) by Elle Kennedy: 4 Stars
The Goal (Off-Campus #4) by Elle Kennedy: 4 Stars

Discussion I didn’t write as many discussion posts as I wanted to but this one was definitely the most fun to write. You all know how addicted I am to sports contemporary novels so I’ve taken the liberty of providing a list of reasons to read sports contemporary novels.
Top Ten Tuesday 5th September: Books I Grew to Love 12th September: Books Published 5+ Years Ago 19th September: Books on my Autumn To Read Pile 26th September: Books that Feature Athletes

Miscellaneous 1st September: Guest Post – Our Story Begins by Elissa Brent Weissman  8th September: Guest Post – The Hawkweed Legacy by Irena Brignull
Favourite Posts in September
Flo @ Flowless Books talks about the changes of main characters in a series.
Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner provides some tips on finding ways to be excited about reading again. She also treats us to three reasons why she blogs.
The Orangutang Librarian asks, how realistic should a book be?
Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books asks if bloggers still love reading?
Kristin @ Kristin Kraves Books tells us why she loves book blogging.
Briana @ Pages Unbound discusses the possibility of having college-age kids in Young Adult novels.
Krysta @ Pages Unbound talks about the pressure to keep up with social media and blogging.
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction asks, what constitutes a blogging slump.
Mikaela @ The Well-Thumbed Reader asks us how we deal with blogging burn out?
October Goals
Be more productive. This seems to be my mantra of the year. The first half of October is promising to be a bit less strenuous so I plan to be a lot more productive on the blog and in life in general. I finished September on a sports contemporary kick and that promises to carry on into October.
Speaking of sports, Ice hockey season is back! I never thought I’d be the person that gets excited about sports, but Ice Hockey is a game that grabs you. I’ve also watched a bit of American Football, and now that I understand the basic rules I enjoy it more. I still think American Football is like Rugby on pause, but it’s enjoyable.
What was your highlight of the month? What are your goals for October?
September Wrap Up 2017 Autumn has well and truly arrived. I love this time of year. Everything about it screams all things warm and fuzzy.

Poppy is discovering a purpose for her powers in Africa, but she is haunted by a vision of her own death. Taken in by a boy and his great-grandmother, a healer, they vow to keep her safe-even if that ultimately means holding her captive. But Poppy never stops longing for Leo and, when she feels his magic begin to spark, she will do anything to be reunited with him. Desperate to regain Poppy's trust and bring her home, Charlock embarks on a plan to reunite Leo with his mother. What Charlock doesn't foresee are the string of consequences that she sets into motion that leave Ember all alone and prey to manipulation, the clan open to attack from other witches, Sorrel vulnerable to Raven's ghost, Betony determined to protect her son from his father's fate, and which leave both Leo and Poppy in terrible danger.

YA Books to Get Excited About in August 2017
Genius: The Con by Leopoldo Gout (8/1): Three teen geniuses from diverse backgrounds must work together to stop a vicious warlord, protect their families, and save the world in this fast-paced sequel to Genius: The Game. ON THE RUN! Tunde: This fourteen-year-old self-taught engineering genius from Nigeria is in a race against time to save his village from a ruthless warlord.Painted Wolf: This mysterious sixteen-year-old activist blogger and strategist from China is searching for a way to rescue her father from the corruption he's inadvertently been caught up in.Rex: This sixteen-year-old Mexican-American has proven himself to be one of the best programmers in the world, only to be falsely accused of stealing billions of government secrets for the terrorist hacking group Terminal.Pursued by the police, the FBI, and most dangerous of all, Kiran Biswas, visionary CEO and evil mastermind, three teen geniuses have to move fast and stay low as they race to find a missing brother, stop a vicious warlord, and save the world in Genius: The Con by Leopoldo Gout.
The Secret History of Us by Jessi Kirby (8/1): In this gorgeously written, emotional novel that fans of Sarah Dessen will enjoy, a teenage girl must piece together the parts of her life she doesn’t remember after a severe collision leaves her with no memory of the past four years. When Olivia awakes in a hospital bed following a near-fatal car accident, she can’t remember how she got there. She figures it’s because she was in a coma for a week, but as time goes on, she realizes she’s lost more than just the last week of her life—she’s lost all memory of events that happened years ago. Gone is any recollection of starting or graduating high school; the prom; or her steady boyfriend Matt. Trying to figure out who she is feels impossible when everyone keeps telling her who she was.As Liv tries to sort out her family and friends’ perceptions of her, the one person she hasn’t heard enough from is Walker, the guy who saved her the night her car was knocked off that bridge into the bay below. Walker is the hardened boy who’s been keeping his distance and the one person that has made Liv feel like her old self…whoever that is. With feelings growing for Walker, tensions rising with Matt, and secrets she can’t help but feel are being kept from her, Olivia must find her place in a life she doesn’t remember living.
Reunited by Colleen Houck (8/8):  From Colleen Houck, New York Times bestselling author of The Tiger’s Curse, comes the third and final book in the Reawakened series in which Lily will train to defeat evil once and for all and find a way to her everlasting love.   After surviving her otherworldly adventure, Lily wakes up on her nana’s farm having forgotten everything. Her sun prince, her travels to Egypt, and her journey to the Afterlife are all distant memories.   But Lily is not the girl she once was. Her body is now part human, part lion, and part fairy. And if that isn’t bad enough, she must harness this power of three and become Wasret: a goddess destined to defeat the evil god Seth once and for all.   With the help of her old friend Dr. Hassan, Lily departs on her final voyage through the cosmos and across the plains of Egypt. On the journey, she will transform into the being she is destined to become.   Reunited is the heart-pounding conclusion to the Reawakened series. It is time for Lily to find her sunset.
Shimmer and Burn by Mary Taranta (8/8):  To save her sister’s life, Faris must smuggle magic into a plague-ridden neighboring kingdom in this exciting and dangerous start to a brand-new fantasy duology. Faris grew up fighting to survive in the slums of Brindaigel while caring for her sister, Cadence. But when Cadence is caught trying to flee the kingdom and is sold into slavery, Faris reluctantly agrees to a lucrative scheme to buy her back, inadvertently binding herself to the power-hungry Princess Bryn, who wants to steal her father’s throne. Now Faris must smuggle stolen magic into neighboring Avinea to incite its prince to alliance—magic that addicts in the war-torn country can sense in her blood and can steal with a touch. She and Bryn turn to a handsome traveling magician, North, who offers protection from Avinea’s many dangers, but he cannot save Faris from Bryn’s cruelty as she leverages Cadence’s freedom to force Faris to do anything—or kill anyone—she asks. Yet Faris is as fierce as Bryn, and even as she finds herself falling for North, she develops schemes of her own. With the fate of kingdoms at stake, Faris, Bryn, and North maneuver through a dangerous game of magical and political machinations, where lives can be destroyed—or saved—with only a touch.
The Hawkweed Legacy by Irena Brignull (8/15):  Poppy is discovering a purpose for her powers in Africa, but she is haunted by a vision of her own death.
The Dire King by William Ritter (8/22):  The fate of the world is in the hands of detective of the supernatural R. F. Jackaby and his intrepid assistant, Abigail Rook. An evil king is turning ancient tensions into modern strife, using a blend of magic and technology to push Earth and the Otherworld into a mortal competition. Jackaby and Abigail are caught in the middle as they continue to solve the daily mysteries of New Fiddleham, New England — like who’s created the rend between the worlds, how to close it, and why zombies are appearing around town. At the same time, the romance between Abigail and the shape-shifting police detective Charlie Cane deepens, and Jackaby’s resistance to his feelings for 926 Augur Lane’s ghostly lady, Jenny, begins to give way. Before the four can think about their own futures, they will have to defeat an evil that wants to destroy the future altogether. The epic conclusion to the New York Times best-selling Jackaby series features sly humor and a quirky cast of unforgettable characters as they face off against their most dangerous, bone-chilling foe ever.
Dress Codes for Small Towns by Courtney Stevens (8/22): As the tomboy daughter of the town’s preacher, Billie McCaffrey has always struggled with fitting the mold of what everyone says she should be. She’d rather wear sweats, build furniture, and get into trouble with her solid group of friends: Woods, Mash, Davey, Fifty, and Janie Lee.But when Janie Lee confesses to Billie that she’s in love with Woods, Billie’s filled with a nagging sadness as she realizes that she is also in love with Woods…and maybe with Janie Lee, too.Always considered “one of the guys,” Billie doesn’t want anyone slapping a label on her sexuality before she can understand it herself. So she keeps her conflicting feelings to herself, for fear of ruining the group dynamic. Except it’s not just about keeping the peace, it’s about understanding love on her terms—this thing that has always been defined as a boy and a girl falling in love and living happily ever after. For Billie—a box-defying dynamo—it’s not that simple. Readers will be drawn to Billie as she comes to terms with the gray areas of love, gender, and friendship, in this John Hughes-esque exploration of sexual fluidity.
All Rights Reserved by Gregory Katsoulis (8/29): In a world where every word and gesture is copyrighted, patented or trademarked, one girl elects to remain silent rather than pay to speak, and her defiant and unexpected silence threatens to unravel the very fabric of society. Speth Jime is anxious to deliver her Last Day speech and celebrate her transition into adulthood. The moment she turns fifteen, Speth must pay for every word she speaks ("Sorry" is a flat ten dollars and a legal admission of guilt), for every nod ($0.99/sec), for every scream ($0.99/sec) and even every gesture of affection. She's been raised to know the consequences of falling into debt, and can't begin to imagine the pain of having her eyes shocked for speaking words that she's unable to afford. But when Speth's friend Beecher commits suicide rather than work off his family's crippling debt, she can't express her shock and dismay without breaking her Last Day contract and sending her family into Collection. Backed into a corner, Speth finds a loophole: rather than read her speech-rather than say anything at all-she closes her mouth and vows never to speak again. Speth's unexpected defiance of tradition sparks a media frenzy, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps, and threatens to destroy her, her family and the entire city around them.
Backfield Boys by John Feinstein (8/29): Renowned sports journalist and New York Times–bestselling author John Feinstein’s young adult novel Backfield Boys follows best friends and football stars Jason Roddin and Tom Jefferson, a perfect, though unconventional, pair: Jason, the Jewish kid, is lightning fast and a natural wide-receiver, while African-American Tom has an amazing arm and a quarterback’s feel for the game. After summer football camp at an elite sports-focused boarding school, the boys are thrilled to enroll on scholarship for their freshman year—despite their mothers' fears of injury and especially CTE. On day one, they’re stunned when the coaches make Tom a receiver and Jason a quarterback, a complete contradiction to their skill sets and training. Suspecting deep-seated racial bias, the boys speak out, risking both their scholarships and their chance to play. Soon local newspaper reports begin a secret investigation, and as tensions rise Jason and Tom must decide how much they're willing to lose in their quest to expose the ugly remnants of a racist past that still linger in contemporary jock culture.
Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo (8/29):  She will become one of the world's greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .  Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world. Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn't know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery. Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

I am thrilled to have Irena Brignull on the blog today. The Hawkweed Legacy is an addictive fantasy romance full of heart stopping moments that will have you on the edge of your seats. Inspired by the book, Irena is kind enough to share some of her favourite film and TV shows. As a hopeless decision maker, narrowing this list down to five was a tough one. But here are my top five movies and TV…
