Studio Update July 5
No excuses, I am way behind schedule on the tarot deck. Progress is being made, it's just slower than expected. Part of it is, I think I need to redesign the 3 of cups. It just doesn't work in the set.
Also, I've turned some of my warm ups into these little stamps. I know I posted one right when I did it but I may end up turning these into stickers when we're closer to the Fall season.
Now, for entirely new stuff! Soon, there will be some botanical products coming soon.
First, I've been collecting and pressing local wildflowers that I'm planning to sell without treatments so you can use them how you want. Below is the first run of St. John's Wort, White Clover, Rose Campion, Daisy, Forget-Me-Nots, and Hawks'-Beard.
I've also been drying and working with avocado pits to create buttons:
Finally, my favorite summer craft project: Rosary Beads. Did you know old rosary beads were made from rose petals? In fact, it's in the name; rosary means from roses.
These are just rose petals from my garden and filtered water. No added oils or waxes.

stannis being extremely masculine by our standards but constantly flopping at fantasy medieval standards of masculinity is so funny to me. yeah he may be the most stereotypical middle aged balding stock broker ass man possible but he is FAILING the tenets of westerosi maleness. he hates having sex with women, he likes leading from the back instead of charging into battle, he’s not ripped, he has no beautiful flowing hair or beard, he has no male heirs, he is not leaderly and his vassals hate him, he doesn’t like jousting, his hunting hawk sucks shit, he is neither chivalrous nor bawdy to ladies, he has no taste for feasting, any and all military victories he’s had have been in service to his brother and he gets no renown or respect for them whatsoever. he is FLOPPING bro. how are you getting out-masculined by your rainbow flag waving clotheshorse no heir flower crown wearing virgin wife youngest of three citygay brother. come on man

Hey so as you guys know I've been playing Tears
So I finally decided to write something for it!
WARNING TO EVERYONE, MAJOR TEARS OF THE KINGDOMS SPOILERS DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!
“I need to reach my friend!”
The world that was once Wild’s Hyrule had changed- drastically. Not anymore did the guardians lay dormant, nor did the Sheikah towers stand tall- the Divine Beasts had been laid to rest and while the lands stayed the same, the skies seemed to become home to more than the native Islander hawk.
Changed for better or for worse, you didn’t quite know. The growling patches of gloom circling chasms to a world beneath the surface wasn’t really all that fun to you- nor were the claws of concentrated evil that crept up from nowhere to try and snatch you without a second thought. But to see how Hyrule seemed to prosper with more life. The settlement by the castle was bigger now, a fort that stood proud to the floating pinnacle that was Hyrule castle and with more warriors seasoned to fight for the place that was their home.
Purah was amazed to see you again and you didn’t know how to feel about being smaller than her now.
Felt wrong in the more comedic sense.
All across the land you had come to find new people, make new friends! Tulin had grown so much! As had Riju! Sidon’s finacée, Yona her name, was a beautiful and cute manta ray! (Never in your life had you been jealous about both partners of a relationship that badly) Paya was now chief! Yunobo had a beard! And you had met the most amazing Rito reporter named Penn! A man who had named your new best friend in these trying times.
And trying times they were- you had no idea how you were keeping up with Wild. A little older now, an inch or two taller with a stronger build and more of an mature edge to him- well, that’s what you thought when you first woke up here in Lookout Landing, a teary eyed Wild looking down at you before he near crushed you underneath his weight, Flora just as teared and happily embracing you once you were finally stood.
You had no idea what happened, not how you got here nor where the rest of the Chain were- but you were glad you at least had the Champion by your side.
Sometimes.
This time was one of those times you were ready to toss him.
“If you connect that fucking rocket to that baby’s backpack I will shove a bomb flower down your throat.” Rauru’s hand was glowing with power, frozen along with the Zonai rocket it was lifting as you stood just a few paces away. “I mean it, Link, if you send them flying we’re duking it out.”
You looked so intimidating with the Glide suit, you just knew it. (Oh internal dialogue, how sarcastic you could be)
The korok shook, little sniffles catching your ears as they gazed at the device just inches away from being glued to the material of their rucksack before sighing in relief as the rocket was dropped with a heavy thud just beside them, Wild turning with an ‘oh-so-innocent’ smile.
“They need to reach their friend-” He pointed a thumb behind him, “A few hills over- I was just helping.”
You frowned “I don’t know what happened while you were away but you’ve become more sadistic.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You never do.” Both sharing a look, you shook your head. “Hand them over to me, I’ll get them to their buddy.”
Wild’s hand fell to his hip, watching you waddle over excitedly as he side stepped, your hands out in a grabby motion as the small forest child threw their little stubby hands up with an excited “Guide!” that made your heart soar as you hauled them into the air with a similar excited “Forest baby!”
“You know we still need to get to Rito village- it’ll get dark by the time we arrive if we do this.”
“Don’t care, forest babies come first.”
He smirked, “Koroks are older than you.”
“Your mum.”
“Very mature.”
“Who are you, Twilight?” A pang went through your heart. “Ah, no, sorry that was rude-”
Wild’s face had curled in a more comedic way when you turned to look at him, sour and betrayed in the way the skin folded. “Am I really turning into him?”
Pausing, you looked him up and down- “I mean…you kinda do remind me of him right now.”
Wild raised a brow; you grinned. “You remember when Wolfie fell into that bush?”
When you burst into laughter he rolled his eyes, letting out a “hardy-har” while the korok still wiggled happily in the confines of your arms, it’s bag now over your shoulder to relieve some of the weight. (You focused on the spirit and missed the way the Champion desperately pawed at the sticks in his flowing hair)
“I’m not going with you this time- we’ve already lost a lot of hours.” Crossing his arms, the blonde continued. “If you go I’ll head towards the village.”
You shurgged. “Alright, I’ll see you there.”
The Champion narrowed his eyes. “I’m serious, (Name).”
“I’m sure you are.”
“...I don’t like your tone.”
Clearing your throat, you raised it an octave. “I’m sure you are!”
Wild did not laugh when you did.
If there was one thing you knew about the Champion it was that he was attached to your side. Stuck stronger than the fuse of the Zonai magic, the blonde followed you around like a Hylian retriever followed those that held food towards them. If you strayed too far, he would get you, if you paused mid journey, he paused, there was so many occasion that something had caught your eye mid ride on one of the many vehicles he had created and the man would slow down to let you go study it- lest you hop off, something you had almost done once when he refused to stop.
You really did appreciate all he did, you knew he had a lot on his mind, but with all that was happening didn’t you both deserve to have some moments not caught up the drama of the end of the fucking world???
“I’ll see you in a little bit!” Daylight was falling and it would be harder to find the campfire smoke in the night. “Keep the bed in the inn warm for me, pretty boy!”
And thus began your hike. Your little companion happily chattering your ear off as you walked away from the hero, hearing his heavy sigh and impatient foot tapping loose volume the further and further you got.
You had made it past the first hill, Wild’s form out of your sight as you glanced back when the sound out wheels caught your attention. The korok let out a noise of confusion at the strange noise but you merely spared a giggle, standing aside as the beam cycle (minus the beam) slowed to a stop beside you- your hero refusing to look your way as he waited.
“Get on.”
“Aren’t you gonna ask me on a date first?”
He grunted and you gave him the grace to leave him be, being careful balancing the korok in your grasp as you hopped onto the odd bike and wrapped an arm around the man’s waist, another still holding the forest spirit tight.
“You ready?”
“Aye, aye, captain.”
You missed the small smile that grew on his face, the Zonai devices lighting up with its phantom green glow as the hero started the machine back up and headed towards the direction of the smoke. Without a second thought, you gently kissed his nape, unable to reach his cheek and nuzzled into his back with a relaxed hum.
Wild straightened proudly.
“You still have sticks in your hair.”
“Don’t ruin this for me.”

September
September is here and I know this post is late, but I had to take a slight social media detox! I swear once September hits I am all Fall, y’all!! I’m about all things apple, pumpkin, fall leaves, sunflowers, soup, etc! Did you know that apples (and apple trees) are associated with love, health, divination, rebirth and renewal, life, learning, and so many other things? The original bobbing for apples game was a form of slight divination, even! It was said that marriage would come to the first person to bite into the apple while bobbing. Also, if you cut into an apple, you’ll find a pentacle type star!
Correspondences of September are sapphire and sardonyx for crystals, the bear and owl for animals, flowers are morning glory and aster, and the zodiac sign is Virgo.
Let’s talk about some days in September:
Not only is Labor Day the 2nd, but also the Celtic Tree Month of Vine begins…happiness and wrath are both symbolized with the vine, garden magic, magic for joy and happiness but also wrath, rage, anger.
Magical influences for this are empowerment, inner growth, introspection, and prophecy.
Sept 4th is bring your manners to work day (I liked this one, cause I’m constantly reminding myself to have manners in moments where people are pissing me off lol.)
Sept 7th national salami day and world beard day (I liked these two because we used to call our younger sister “salami” to piss her off when we were all younger and we still sort of joke about it to this day… and my boyfriend has a beard that I just love. I love feeling it, smelling it, looking at it…lol!)
Sept 8th grandparents day
9/11… a tragic day that affected so many lives in one way or another! On this day remember all those who lost their lives due to this tragic event and the war it caused!
Friday the 13th
FULL MOON in Pisces on Sept 17, Harvest moon aka the nut moon, barley moon, or wine moon (love that!), the color for this full moon is brown and crystals are carnelian, cat’s eye, iolite, lapis lazuli, peridot, sapphire, blue spinel, blue tourmaline, and zircon
Magickal influences from this moon are confidence, the home, manifestation, protection.
This is a Moon of wisdom, take this time to reflect back on lessons learned this past year, darker days are coming which is good for shadow work.
September 18th NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAYYYY
September 21st International Day of Peace
Sept 22 is Mabon, also known as the autumn (or Fall) equinox – this is a time where night and day or light and dark are balanced. This is a sort of mid-harvest festival, we are celebrating the second of 3 harvest festivals. I’ve read that there is a slight connection to Mabon for how Oktoberfest was created, by the Bavarians. They start celebrating this in the last week of September.
Celebrate Mabon and give thanks to the Earth for abundant crops, practice gratitude, give blessings, share with the less fortunate. When canning, infuse your recipes with magickal influences and charm your jars.
Mabon is also one of those “liminal times” or an in-between time. These are powerful times for spell-work, rituals, and magick in general.
Colors for Mabon are blue, brown, gold, maroon, orange, violet, and yellow
Plants, herbs, etc: aster, marigolds, sage, ivy, grape, fern, blackberry/bramble, chrysanthemum, grains, thistle, and trees are cedar, hazel, aspen, maple, oak, myrtle, and locust
gems: amethyst, topaz
animals: hawk, swans, swallows, geese, dogs, wolves
Element: water
Magickal influences: accomplishment, agriculture, balance, goals, gratitude, grounding
Deities are: Epona, Inanna, Ishtar, Kore, Modron (Celtic Great Earth Mother Goddess), the Morrigan, Persephone, Bacchus, Dionysus, Dumuzi, the Green Man, Hermes, Thoth, Mabon (translates to the divine son) is the son of Modron and he is associated with the element of water, grapes, ivy, dogs, horses, salmon and his magical influences are hunting, darkness, death, freedom, harmony, innocence, justice, the otherworld or underworld, quests, contacting spirits, strength, truth, and youth.
Ways you can celebrate Mabon:
Make a simmer pot with apples, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg, vanilla, star anise, orange slices.
Host a harvest dinner and include apples, squash, corn, grains, root vegetables like carrots potatoes and onions, grapes and wine, nuts, pomegranates, mead, spiced teas.
Make a hearty stew with fresh baked bread, apple pie, mashed squash, mulled wine
Make a cornucopia, go to a pumpkin patch and farmer’s market, go for a fall nature walk, donate food, focus on balance in your life, write a gratitude list, decorate your altar for Mabon with apples, candles that are brown, orange, and gold, marigold and sunflowers, leaves, acorns, grape vines, a deity statue. Celebrate by giving thanks for the abundance and good in your life, and meditate on the things on the things from this past year you'd like to let go of!
Sept 30th Celtic tree month of Ivy begins which symbolizes life, death, and rebirth, spell work during this time would be great for self-work, healing, banishing toxicity, protection, binding spells
Magical influences during this time: decisions and introspection, growth, learning, developing skills.
September in general is a good time to work on magick and intentions for the home.
I feel like 2 of the biggest intentions you can work on in September however, are balance and change, so I’m going to share a spell for this month that I created!
Things you’re going to need: leaves, something to write with, sage, basil, apple, orange candle, oil, sunflowers.
Dress your orange (for balance and change) candle with oil of your choosing and sage for a clear mind, basil for opening yourself to receive messages, and sunflowers for overcoming obstacles.
Core your apple (for peace, rebirth and renewal, self-work) and place your candle inside. You’re basically using this apple as your candle holder!
Light your candle and meditate on the areas in your life that need balance and/or change. When you are done, write your setbacks and obstacles that you want to overcome (to make these changes and bring this balance) onto the leaves. Hold the leaves into your hands and let the wind take them away!

🌸 cherry blossom in the rain today ..
some hand-picked cherry blossom poetry ❀。• *₊°。 ❀°。
🌸
the spring wind scattering blossoms
I saw it in a dream
but when I awoke the sound was
still rustling in my breast
Saigo Hoshi
🌸
Standing tall on the highest mountain
surrounded by clouds and the most beautiful fountains.
Against all odds, the tree grew on the toughest rock
up in the sky with the highest-flying hawk.
The cherry blossom reached for the sky.
The cherry blossom wanted to fly
to see the world from up high
to see that last as it dies.
The cherry blossom reached its goal
but all too soon it lost control.
it wanted to see it all
even if it meant it'll fall
The cherry blossom reached and reached
while its trunk screeched and people preached
"trees aren't flexible," they cried
yet still, the cherry blossom tried
Sarah Crouse, Trees aren't flexible
🌸
The blossoms unfailing
my grief this unopening
pouch of poetry
Matsuo Basho
🌸
to be the kind of person
who will glimpse
the cherry blossom tree
beautifully delicate
in its early bloom
fluttering the palest pink
against a fragile white
desperate against even
the gentlest of breeze
but only observe
the black and the white
of what the premature
might mean for later
commenting how soon
these branches will lose
their graceful lustre
no longer to inspire
those hopeful wanderers
only to appear barren
and lifeless once again
Hemingway's Beard, it can be disappointing to realise
🌸
it’s fall now and the trees are becoming bare
and though i know i should live in the present
i can’t help but wish for spring
when i was a child i used to think
that the cherry blossom outside my window
would don a pretty pink dress when winter bled to spring
i’d call her vain but i’d still admire her
she paved the grass with soft pink flowers and tapped
at my window when wind visited in the night
we’ve moved to a different house now and
there aren’t any cherry blossom trees to look at anymore
i wonder what she thinks of the new residents
i hope they call her beautiful
even though her ego is large enough as it is
she needs reassurance every now and then
i hope they find the perfect niche that i did
a little place between her branches
where they can sit and stroke her arms
she’s no longer a part of my life
i’ll find another one to praise
(though none will be as perfect as her)
Iris Worral, pale pink snow

Oc flower asks for Cyrus- Sunflower, Violet, Wisteria
flower asks (thank you <333333333)
Sunflower - What name(s) were you originally thinking of calling your OC?
God, it's been so long since I made Cyrus, I can't remember anything else I considered? I initially made him ~2017 as the twin brother of my other Hawke, Belladonna, for an inquisitor!Hawke AU*. I wanted to give him a 'C' name to match with Carver, since I already had Belladonna & Bethany, as well as something sufficiently fantasy-ish and soft-sounding for my gold-hearted hunk of a warrior.** I might've also considered Cyril?
*No one asked but I had to abandon that idea after this version of Cyrus proved to be too much of a stabilizing influence on this version of Belladonna, countering her penchant for self-destruction to such a degree that the original character stopped working. I don't think I'll ever write them together again, but with their new and improved 2024 characterizations, they'd definitely make each other worse, not better.
**Original Cyrus was also human, bald, and heavily bearded asofjpf there were some. adaptations. when I decided to reuse him for sapphim & vaelsmod's (then) recently released Playable Elfs mod.
Violet - Do a voice claim for your OC?
I really like Nicholaus Boulton's voice acting for m!Hawke, it's hard for me to imagine anything different for Cyrus! I love that he also does the voice for Malcolm in the Legacy DLC, since Cyrus desperately wants to have his father's deep voice, whether via imitation pre-voice drop magic or approximation through voice drop magic. Also @/zevsurana has some great posts about how... performative and strained m!Hawke's red dialogue options sound, which I love as an additional detail for Act 3/post-Kirkwall!Cyrus & ranger!Cyrus. To the extent that the anger and aggression are real, they're also very much a coping & protective mechanism to try to keep himself safe.
Side note, now that I'm finally spending some time with another BG3 OC, it's wild how different some of the acting direction is across the voice presets. Voice 7 (Cyrus' voice) sounds way more tired & done with things than Yiseeril's voice (8). It's very fitting, especially for ranger!Cyrus.
Wisteria - Does your OC have a skill they'd like to learn? What is stopping them?
Varies depending on version/setting
When he's living in Val Royeaux between games, DA2!Cyrus spends a lot of time being frustrated that his brash sword & shield skill set isn't well-suited for Orlais. He tries to learn some more subtle rogue maneuvers from Varric & Zevran, but he never takes to it, being so utterly antithetical to how he's fought & conducted himself for all his life.
Both paladin versions of BG3!Cyrus (so pallybarb/Karlach & Halsin romancing timeline, and shadow sorc/Astarion romancing/turns into a sword timeline) want to further develop their Elvish, as it's a skill that has turned quite rusty in the ~century since his parents died. Pallybarb!Cyrus has a very willing & eager teacher in Halsin, though going to the Hells with Karlach has paused their lessons for the time being. Meanwhile, shadow sorc!Cyrus is a bit too distracted with the. Nonstop existential body horror that is this version of the game for him, so it's not something he's pursuing right now.
And ranger!Cyrus wants to learn to dance!! Though he has a complicated relationship with it, he loved dancing with Wyll sosososo much and wants to be able to do it well to give Wyll the dance partner he deserves and so they can show off in front of the other Baldurian nobles.

we talk about suburbs and city centers and parking lots as barren wastelands, and not to defend them, but i think in most cases you’d be surprised if you went around and actually counted the different plants you see. most people take any weedy yellow flower to be dandelion, even tho it’s often cat’s ears or hawk’s beard or hawkbits. the grass itself also often has diversity, much more apparent when it manages to go to seed. to me it’s much like our depictions of post-apocalyptic barren wastelands. from irradiated mutant wildlife, to crazy cults that worship chrome, these wastelands typically are full of new life. if they were truly devoid of life, they’d not be such a recurring theme to visit.
point is, there are cracks in the concrete, and life finds a way.

Surnames with signs of Lithuanian linguistic influence were the result of long-standing and close contacts and the coexistence of Belaruthians and Baltics in the same territory. Despite the intense slavic assimilation, even today, Belarus still has ethnic Lithuanian enclaves that are not completely slavicized, and there used to be much more of them.
Belaruthian surnames of Lithuanian origin include, for example, such completely familiar surnames as Doŭnar, Korbut, Budrevič, Rahojša and others.
In contrast to surnames of Belaruthian origin, the meanings of the words from which surnames of Lithuanian origin were formed did not always correlate with the person and his characteristics. There are no logical contradictions here because Lithuanians have other principles of forming surnames, according to which any subject, object, or phenomenon can become the basis for a surname.
Bakšt, Bakšta and the like are related to the outdated Belaruthian word bakšta, borrowed from the Lithuanian language ("bokštas" — "tower"). Surnames with this base are common throughout Belarus, but there are even more of them in Eastern Belarus than in the Vilnius region. Bearers of the Bakšta surname lived compactly near Berazin, Bakštaj - near Bešankoviči, and Bakštajev - near Talačyn and Kruhły.
Baład originates from the nickname of a person based on the action of the Lithuanian verb "baladotis" - "to spend time idly; to wander around". The Bałads lived to the north of the village of Akciabrski, Homiel region.
Bičun can be reduced to the Lithuanian word bičiulis - "buddy, bestie, bee-friend". Almost all the bearers of this surname lived compactly to the north of the Vilnius Reservoir.
It would seem that the typically Belaruthian surname Budrevič actually comes from a nickname that is related to the Lithuanian word "budrus" - "vigilant, very attentive". This surname is most often found in the Hrodźienščyna region.
Vanahieļ is an adapted Lithuanian surname Vanagėlis from the Lithuanian word "vanagas" - "hawk." The bearers of the surname mainly lived in the territory between Niaśviž, Stoŭbcy, Uzda, and Kapyļ, although it is also found in other regions.
The surname Virbuļ most likely comes from the Lithuanian word "virb" - "bird grouse." This surname is found in deep forests of the Ušat district, closer to Dźvina.
Hinč comes from the Lithuanian "ginčas" - "dispute, contradictions." It is found only in the Śvislać district, on the western outskirts of Belarus.
The surname Druć comes from the Lithuanian word "drūtas" — "a person of strong physique, healthy." It is found between Hrodna and Sapockin, in the vicinity of Kareličy, isolated ones - near Śvisłač, Berastavica, Navahrudak, and, expectedly, along the Druć River in the Tałačynski district. The name of the river comes from the same Lithuanian root.
Žamžycki has the nickname Žemže from the Lithuanian verb "žemžėti" — "to grow a beard, hair" or "to have a sallow complexion."
Zvirbļa comes from the Lithuanian word "žvirblis" - "sparrow." [Jack Sparrow in Lithuanian would be Jonas Žvirblis or Jan Zvirblia in Belaruthian, lmaoooo - translator's note] Most often, this surname can be found near Ražanka, Ščučynski district, as well as near Vałožyn.
The surname Žedź comes from the Lithuanian word "žiedas" — "ring, flower, thimble." It is quite rare and is found only in the Pružanski and Kamianiec districts, on both sides of the Biełaviežskaja Pušča.
Jodčyk (Ijodčyk) has the Lithuanian base "juodas" - "black." This surname was used by people in the Brasłaŭščyna region.
Kaŭļuk is a descendant of a person nicknamed Kauł from the Lithuanian word kaulys - "intrusive person."
Kiškeļ is a Lithuanian surname Kiškis adapted on slavic soil from the Lithuanian word "kiškis" - "hare." It is found in the greater part of the Vilenščyna/Vilnius region - in the Astraviecki, Ašmianski, Smarhonski and Lidski districts, but most often in the forests between Juratiški and Iŭjeŭ.
The name Labus is based on the Lithuanian word "labas," which literally means "good afternoon," and possibly means "kind, sympathetic" in human terms. The bearers of the surname are widely scattered across Belarus: near Jeziaryšča, which is on the very border with russia, near Ļozna, in Smaļavičy, in the historical Igumen region - from Mensk to Marjina Horka, as well as near Kapyļ.
The surname Łajba originates from the Lithuanian word "laibas" - "thin, slender."
The surnames Mažajev and Mažejka are based on the surname Mažai, which is related to the Lithuanian word "mažas" — "small".
If the surname Mažajeŭ can be found only in Połaččyna region and Homieļščyna region, then the surname Mažejka is found everywhere in Belarus.
Nartyš originates from the Lithuanian adjective "nartus" - "stubborn, headstrong." It is found only west of Viciebsk.
The basis of the Pivień surname is related to the Lithuanian word "pievinis" - "meadow" (compare with the Belaruthian surname Padłužny). It can be found in Lidčyna and Hłyboččyna. But the exact same surname, common in Western Paleśsia/Polissia, is apparently also formed from the Ukrainian form of the word "rooster."
Puntus comes from the verb stems "pusti , puna," which means "to swell, to inflate," referring to a person - "chubby." Most often, the bearers of this surname lived in the Homel region, especially in the Kalinkavicki and Śvietłahorski districts, and also in the Łahoj district.
Rahojša is related to the Lithuanian word "ragaišis" — "wheat or barley bread; unleavened bread, pancake."
Rahojšas can be found north of Lida, but most often - west of Mensk, in the Vałožynski and Dźiaržynski districts. The Belaruthian philologist Viačasłaŭ Rahoiša, for example, comes from the town of Rakaŭ, Vałožyn district.
Sadzibaŭ comes from the Lithuanian word "sodyba" - "farm complex, homestead."
Śviejka comes from the Lithuanian word "sveikas" - "healthy, full of health." It is mostly found in the Śvisłaćkij district, on the western edge of Belarus.
Surnames Suman, Sumanaŭ are related to the Lithuanian word "sumanus," meaning "clever, intelligent." Bearers of the surname Suman lived in the territory of the Krupskij district, near Novałukomļ, and bearers of the surname Sumanaŭ - above Orša and Čavusy.
The Lithuanian word "ciabuvis", meaning "native", served as the basis for the surname Ciabus. Most often, this surname can be found in Słuččyna, between Salihorsk, Ļubaņ and Urečča.
Šałpakoŭ is related in meaning to the verb "šelpti" - "to help with money, to provide material assistance" and the word "šalpa" - "cash assistance".
The basis of the surname Špartaŭ (Špartoŭ) goes back to the Lithuanian verb "spartėti" - "to perform any action at a very fast pace". The bearers of this surname lived compactly to the west of Čavusy, and individual representatives lived in Karma.
Some Belaruthian surnames were formed from Lithuanianisms through the mediation of Belaruthian dialects:
The surname Bublis is based on the nickname Bubła "fat man" (compare the Belaruthian dialect words bubły, "kruhliaški" bagels, bubliki). Belarusian dialectologists connect the origin of these words with the Lithuanian word bubùlis "round object". The bearers of the surname mainly lived in the territory of the Łahoi district, but it is also found in the Viļejski and Astraviecki districts.
Hizieleŭ is formed from the nickname Hiźeļ after the Belaruthian dialect adjective "hiźlivy" - "alive, energetic, fast walking", which goes back to the Lithuanian word "gizas" - "fidget".
Kiez is a nickname based on the meaning of the Belaruthian dialect verb kieznucca, which goes back to the Lithuanian "keizotis, keiziotis" - "to be capricious, to worry". Variants of the surname are common in Paleśsia.
The basis of the surname Kipcevič is the nickname Kipieć. In the "Dictionary of Belaruthian dialects of north-western Belarus and its borders," kipieć means "claw, nail" and there is a reference to the Lithuanian word "kibčius" - "rascal". The Kipcevičs lived compactly in the vicinity of Łuninc.
In some Belaruthian surnames, you can see a connection with Lithuanian personal names.
The surname Doŭnar, for example, is a modified Lithuanian surname Daunaris, which comes from the ancient name Daugnoris, the meaning of which is, however, unknown.
[Lithuanian sources define "daugnoris" as either "ambitious" or "polytheist." - translator's note.]
Doŭnar is an extremely common surname, which is most often found in the central part of the Mensk region and the surrounding areas.
Korbut is a modified Lithuanian surname Korbutas, which goes back to the ancient Lithuanian compound name Karybutas.
The name Karybutas, in turn, consists of the Lithuanian words "karas" - "battle, war" and "butas" - "house", which generally means "defender of one's house." The surname Korbut is widespread throughout Belarus.
There are cases when the Belaruthian surname is formed from a settlement, which in turn has a name of Baltic origin.
Damanski is a native, founder or owner of one of the villages named Damany, Damanava, Damanova, Damanavičy. The names go back to the personal name Daman, which is a shortened version of the name Daŭmont. Translated from Lithuanian, Daŭmont means "very smart".
Krašucki is a native of the village of Krašuty, Rasonski district, whose name may have been derived from the Lithuanian word "kraštas" - "shore (river, lake)". The Krašucki surname itself is recorded exclusively in the vicinity of Połack (Polatsk).
Biaržanin is a native of the village of Beržaniški in the Brasłaŭski district, the name of which comes from the Lithuanian word "beržas" - "birch".
In general, if scientists are to be believed, approximately 9.2% of Belaruthian surnames have Lithuanian roots. [Which is a lot - translator's note]. Some of these surnames unequivocally indicate the ethnic origin of their bearers, while others are simply formed through Lithuanian vocabulary borrowed by Belaruthians.

National Backyard Day
National Backyard Day falls on March 19 and on this day we celebrate, embrace, and enjoy our backyards. Whether right behind your home or in a neighborhood park, backyards are a place for relaxation, happiness, and freedom. Gardening, cookouts, scavenger hunts, backyard camping, taking a nap, and homemade obstacle courses are a few of the creative ways that people use their backyards. These green spaces provide solace and creativity that is much needed in today’s busy pace of life. National Backyard Day is marked in celebration of the special backyard memories we share with friends and family all year round.
History of National Backyard Day
For many years, American backyards were purely functional. They were mainly used for gardening since there were few corner stores and market produce. However, after World War II, people had more disposable income and migrated to the suburbs. This brought about a significant transformation in the treatment of backyards. People focused more on the aesthetic appeal of these spaces and introduced ornamental plants and garden features.
Also, there was a surplus of materials such as aluminum and concrete, meaning that it was affordable to build patios, pools, and lawn furniture. The backyard grew into a place for leisure and entertaining guests and became an extension of the living space.
The establishment of Earth Day in 1970 renewed people’s interest in growing produce at home. Landscapers started mingling vegetables and fruits with ornamentals in formal garden designs, and “edible landscaping” became increasingly popular. Urban community gardens became more widespread and people picked up an interest in organic gardening once more.
Similar to the dooryard gardens of early America, today’s home gardens contain edible plants and herbs. People also include flowers and native plants to add interest to these utility spaces in distinctly American ways.
ZYRTEC®, a brand that makes oral antihistamines, has always believed in the power of the backyard. On the anniversary of backyards becoming the nearest green space of escape, ZYRTEC® officially designated March 19, 2021, as the first National Backyard Day.
