I want Starling to be the insane place that Gotham thinks it is. the only difference is that it's so normal that the people don't even blink when something happens.

A video comes out of Roy Harper and Connor Hawke beating the shit out of a man in the middle of the street? with Mia Dearden cheering them on from the sidewalk? doesn't even make breaking new until it comes out that the man had called Mia something less then flattering, and then the man's face is everywhere.

the nearest big body of water has to be dragged every quarter to make sure that no new bodies have been dumped. there's always at least one pulled up, usually two.

you want to take your kid to the park? sorry, that ones been closed off because they found a body on it this morning! what about the other park on the opposite side on town? it just recently reopened with a big sign saying 'we tried to get all of brain and guts out of the wood chips but we might have missed some, watch your kids!'

the police have recommended a curfew of before sundown? that's because the Dollmaker got out of Ironhights again and he grabs people in the dark. But don't worry! they're hoping to get him before he gets more then 3 people.

the people of Gotham don't think that Bruce is Batman because how the hell could Brucie Wayne be The Batman? the people of Starling don't think that Oliver is the Green Arrow because GA doesn't kill enough people.

there's a compilation that grows by 2 minutes every year named 'Oliver Queen contemplating murder for -minutes'. most of the clips are from parties, when Oliver is taking to someone and the second they turn their back he just glares at them.

Gotham has the crazy people that dress up in organized uniforms and have the big thought out schemes. Starling has the serial killers.

🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?

Starling. I like the woman, she’s got more plot than pretty much any other current Sky Knight. She’s ruthless, methodical, talented at lying/spying (enough to be assigned as a guard to Master Cyclonis herself)…

And she used Aerrow to get what she wants, revenge on the Raptors. She doesn’t care that she’s using a child soldier who isn’t legally recognised as a registered Sky Knight with his own squadron, all she cares about is the results. Her contacts (the Terradons) escape just like they’d planned, Aerrows help is basically minimal in that part because Starling herself is drawing most of the Raptors attention by single handedly fighting her way through their fortress to reclaim her squadrons shield. She just wanted another body to ensure the Terradons escaped cleanly so that the Raptors and thus Cyclonia wouldn’t have access to their highly advanced technology. Yes she fits the archetype of supportive mentor character to the Storm Hawks in the context of the shows plot development, but in a more realistic setting? This woman enables these young kids to risk themselves, their friends and their lives because it suits her agenda. While she hopes the kids will survive, her end goal of bringing down Cyclonia overrides any and all morals regarding using child soldiers.

If one of the kids died at Polaris Pointe or in that ‘final battle’ where the new Storm Hawks led a massive assault (only to fall to Nightcrawlers and experimental tech), I believe she would have been sad, then immediately compartmentalise that emotion along with the guilt of losing her Interceptors then gone right back to trying a new method of undermining Cyclonia.

I honestly feel that Starling is the closest shade of grey to being Cyclonian of all the Free Atmos forces. That’s what makes her such a fun complex character to explore, she’s flawed, she’s presented clearly as flawed, but she also has years of practise manipulating people to see only what she wants them to see. It makes her more relatable than scummy characters like Carver who operates out of self interest. Starling is in pursuit of an end goal while absolutely convinced that it’s the morally ‘right’ choice, no matter what she has to do, who she has to endanger or who she has to kill to do it. I’d love to know more about her dynamic with her squadron before she died, whether this ruthlessness was always a character trait that needed to be kept in check, or whether it’s the result of her trauma from losing her squadron to Repton.

With HAWK STARLING officially announced, let's introduce our intrepid hero, Hawk Starling herself! After escaping alien slavers, the cuban ex-park ranger decides to reinvent herself, becoming a whole new butch with her new name, custom jetpack, and trusty lazhammer at her side!

Controversial Headcanon that's been rolling around in my brain for some time: Starling is Cyclonian.

Starling.

I was allowed to overthink her character. I realised a few things that the writers probably didn't intend, but the choices they made with her character have lead to some... interesting implications about her morality between the lines of the show.

Canon Starling is a very flat character overall, she may as well not exist unless she needs the Storm Hawks for something and vice versa and that only ever happens twice. Three times if you count her saving Aerrow and Radarr in Age of Heroes and outing herself as a spy.

She's the last survivor of the Interceptors squadron after they were defeated (and presumably killed) by the Raptors of Bogaton. The Interceptors' home Terra was Mesa, a place we only see twice in very short scenes at the end of both Absolute Power and Cyclonia Rising Part 2, and literally all Starling does there is 1) put her squadron's shield that she stole back from Repton underneath a flag in a very bare-bones memorial and 2) replace the Interceptors flag with the emblem of the Storm Hawks. Which... makes no sense because we never see the Hawks visit Mesa but I digress.

The actual state of Mesa or when the Interceptors were killed is never mentioned anywhere, not even in the Storm Hawks website (which was recently revived, go check it out), but I'd safely assume that it's not been conquered by Cyclonia because in Absolute Power, Starling just waltzes over to the "memorial" flag to drop off her team's shield. For all we know the Terra could be densely populated, but again we never see more than that one setpiece both times it's visited.

Starling never talks about home. She never talks about her team (granted why would she want to talk to a bunch of teenagers about how much she misses her dead teammates?), and for all we know she never goes back after Absolute Power or between her few appearances in the show.

She spent god knows how long as an undercover spy in Cyclonia before Age of Heroes, and such a thing would not leave her with any room to go back to Mesa to protect it.

It brings up a lot of questions, and one I ask myself quite often is "Who's protecting Mesa when she's gone?" Did the Interceptors get replaced or is she still the only member hanging around?

Did she abandon her Terra in her grief? And is she still avoiding having to deal with the loss of her team by avoiding Mesa and its people?

Aside from Absolute Power, the loss of the Interceptors is never addressed, least of all by Starling. What does that say about her morality beneath the surface?

I don't think Starling is a terrible person, nor do I wish to portray her as someone who gladly neglects her duties at home to go play hero elsewhere.

But I do think that she's a deeply traumatised soldier who hasn't addressed her grief properly, and is leaving the citizens of her Terra open to attack in her subconscious efforts to avoid it. Which I think makes her a very interesting character to think about, and opens the door to endless possibilities when it comes to writing about the situation on Mesa. I just wish a few more people than just me and the buddy squad would mess with the idea, it's getting lonely XD

Ok, I was doing some googling for an oc and i was typing Metallic. However, I was researching birds and google auto corrected to metallic starling. I was curious and clicked on it and

WHY DO THEY LOOK LIKE THE JUDGING MY SINS?!?!?! THEY LOOK LIKE THEY WILL WISK MY SOUL TO ETERNAL DAMNATION!!!

FUCK RAVENS OF CROWS being associated with death or grim reaper or shit!!!! I would be 10 times more terrified if some skeletal figure (and depending on your version, maybe a dude rocking a pair of black wings) carrying a syth with THESE fuckers on their shoulder, I would go to the double after life.

Anyways, 10 out of 10 bird design.
