💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
Dark Ace is more competent than people give him credit for, even in canon, and the only reason Aerrow isn't a red stain on the side of the Condor is plot armour!
Call me dramatic but I have a seething dislike for the "haha lol he got his ass beat by a child over and over" jokes because that is not true.
Age of Heroes 1 - Dark Ace beat Aerrow's ass within minutes and only left him alive because he was a child
Age of Heroes 2 - Aerrow caught Ace off-guard with his move in a "No, it cannot be!" moment as (presumably) Dark Ace recognised Aerrow as family to Lightning Strike. The kid got a lucky shot
Gale Force Winds - Aerrow only managed to 'outfly' Dark Ace by shoving a literal wrench into the works of his sky-ride. One can argue Aerrow cheated, but bottom line is that Aerrow didn't actually beat Dark Ace in actual combat. If he hadn't been lucky enough to get his hands on that wrench, he'd probably be dead
Velocity - Aerrow wasn't even involved in Dark ace's defeat. Ace was air-blasted out of the sky by that monster contraption the other Sky Knights built
The Code - A phoenix intervened. Who is going to fight a phoenix? He also beat up the whole Rex Guardians team in that episode
A Little Trouble - Snipe's bastard warship fell apart before Ace and Aerrow could finish the fight. Ace left the kids to get crushed under that ship. If the show wasn't a kids' cartoon, the Hawks plus a toddler would've been mashed into paste
Energy Crisis - This might be the only fight that Aerrow managed to win out of genuine wit, and it was largely because Dark Ace was zooted out of his gourd with the Medulla Crystal and completely off his rocker
The Lesson - Probably the only victory Aerrow had that was actually earned. He had to actually train for this one.
Power Grab - Aerrow wasn't even in this one, Dark Ace got smote by a giant crystal monster
The Key - Aerrow barely wins this one through the power of deus ex machina and only manages it with Piper's help and the Binding.
Cyclonia Rising - Another deus ex machina, and Cyclonis being an arrogant little shit (affectionate) with Dark Ace probably did not help. He was going to kill them until Piper and the writers pulled "perfect attunement" out of their rear ends.
Most of Aerrow's "wins" are due to luck or the most painfully obvious plot armour I've ever seen. He has two, maybe three wins at a push that actually feel earned, and the rest of those fights are either ties or Dark Ace is beat by something or someone other than Aerrow.
Dark Ace has over a decade of flight and combat experience over Aerrow, it's stated by Piper in episode one that he's "never lost a sky duel", and his "If you win, you live, and I never lose" line in that same episode implies that he usually kills his opponents. Reading between the lines, countless sky knights have died at this man's hands.
Aerrow should've died in that first fight, but if that had happened then we wouldn't have a show, would we? And in the Code, Harrier would've gone splat in the Rex arena if Aerrow hadn't caught him when Dark Ace cut the man's parachute strings.
You want my opinion? Dark Ace was going easy on Aerrow. Maybe he didn't want the death of a child on his conscience, maybe he cared about Aerrow in ways we never got to know because the show had the lore density of an empty wrapping paper tube and Origins was a disappointment of a backstory episode. But if the show had been a little more serious about its plots, Dark Ace would've had far more visible victories and Aerrow would've died at least seven times over because of him alone.
This is not to say that I don't like Aerrow as a character, I love that little shit and that's a threat. But if you told me that the show was solely how Aerrow viewed those events and that Dark Ace won far more often in between episodes, then I'd believe you. Hell, that's genuinely my headcanon in regards to this. The show is Aerrow's retelling of his time as a Storm Hawk, he's telling it with his own personal biases and cutting out all the times he and his friends struggled or even failed.
I think it's more interesting to have characters who are capable of failure rather than characters who win all the time for convoluted reasons. Forcing them to come to terms with the losses and actually overcome that adversity is my favourite part of reinterpreting the show and writing fics about it.
Enjoy the apparent hot take, at the very least I got a little heated there XD

hawkahy for the ship meme!
Do I Ship It?
Yes, I Ship It!!
What made you ship it? —MY BABIES. I love them. God I wish I could remember the first thing that tipped me over the edge. I know one thing that obliterated me was reading Canon's "Star-crossed and storm-tossed," which is devastatingly lovely and a must read for anyone who loves them (check out the sequel too aaaa so good). I bet in hindsight, I can probably blame Canon for me going from "Huh, they spend a lot of time near each other," to, "I need Mulcahy to throw everything away for this man."
What are your favorite things about the ship? —I've talked about it before, but they naturally seek each other out when they have something on their heart or when they sense the other battling against something alone, and I love that so much. And THIS is one of the ultimate displays of mutual respect in any of my ships tbh, the fact that you have a man fully devoted to his religious faith and a man fully devoted to his agnostic beliefs, but that they clearly hold each other in such fucking high regard. There's no pressure from either side, just a deep fondness that permeates almost any time they're interacting on screen. More than anything, I love the potential for Hawk to be a way for Mulcahy to move away from the cloth—I know in my heart he'd be one of the first people Mulcahy went to if he decided to step back. I love the idea of Hawkeye being so fond and hungry for this priest, but him being one of the few people that Hawk holds himself completely at bay for until Mulcahy initiates something first. I love the mutual pining of it all, even though they're completely unaware that the other is thinking of them just as much.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? —Maybe the fact that I would love for Mulcahy to move completely away from his faith, not just the cloth. I think a relationship with Hawkeye makes a lot of space for that and for the healing that could rush in after Mulcahy is able to get all of his heaviness, his bitterness, his fury out.
#i have so many fic ideas for them that i just have not been able to commit my attention to yet and it kills me#i adore them i cannot stress that enough#ty for sending this!#ask meme answers

3, 4. 10, 14 and 20 for the FT asks? :D
3. What is you favourite episode and why?
Gotta be episode 4 the christmas episode. They were just so romantic and domestic and sweet! With the kisses and teasing and gifts and other things lol. Also I found it really funny and ironic when they were dealing with the Schine in the military drama lmao what a diva
4. What is your favourite scene(s) and why?
I already said some here but of course there are more. I really enjoyed the scenes at Fire Island when Tim was drinking and dancing with Hawk. It was nice to see them just letting loose and having fun, and interesting how Tim was indulging Hawk to try to take care of him. Fun vacation bfs 🥰
10. If the show had one more episode, what would it be about?
Between 6 and 7. A whole episode showing more of Tim, Frankie and Marcus in San Francisco. Also when Hawk started contacting Tim again. I would've loved to have heard some of those late night calls...
14. Do you have any unpopular opinions about Fellow Travelers?
I feel like a had an unpopular attitude about the show because I really cherished the happy scenes and love story side of it. It seemed like most people were constantly talking about how sad they were and how it always made them cry... Yes their story is very tragic, but that's made clear from the first episode, and its also about true, enduring love, which I thought was so beautiful and so thoughfully told!
20. If Fellow Travelers had a spin-off or continuation, what would you like it to be about?
Frankie, Storme and Marcus. Frankie and Storme on tour. More Frankie and Marcus romance. They are all beautiful, interesting characters and I would totally watch a whole show of them!
fellow travelers ask game 💕

i got tagged by @lottieurl to try and get anon hate ig 🫡
rules: share some unpopular opinions about 5 different fandoms of your choosing
gonna do yellowjackets, hotd, succession, and bc i haven't been loud about them in a while: dragon age and mass effect
yellowjackets
literally do not care about jackie outside of her relationship to shauna sorry. like i love her role in the story but like as a character i'm just like. ok forgettable. she served her purpose. any time i see fics where she survives i'm like you are so fucking boring oh my god. also i have been known to enjoy shaunajackie on occasion but i really do think they're super overhyped. like what the show has currently is perfect for me. yes girl haunt the narrative! i also find misty deeply boring and i'm sick to death of jeff and coach ben.
i really enjoyed the 1996 storyline in s2 but the 2021 storyline was soooo dumb on so many levels and the pacing was terrible. too much focus on walter and jeff and the adam shit at the expense of everyone else and it's such a waste of talent tbh. also where tf is simone and sammy.
hotd
had no opinion on daemon until the targ stans started being themselves and now every time i see him i see red, which is especially annoying because he is essential to rhaenyra's entire character and the rhaenicents who claim otherwise are bonkers like guys c'mon now.
team black vs team green is stupid as fuck. moralizing asoiaf in general is just so, so stupid.
l*cemond's popularity is just misogyny plain and simple. you are all nuts. leave that poor actor alone.
alicent is a lesbian.
succession
greg should've been written out in season 3 if not earlier he did not serve a purpose in season 4 and the fact that nic braun got an emmy nom had me doing deep breathing exercises to try and calm down.
dragon age
people whose three canon romances are alistair, anders, and cullen are immediate red flags.
i think dao is genuinely the only good game out of the three. dai has extremely lazy storytelling and i hate here lies the abyss because it tries to play on the player's attachment to these characters instead of the inquisitor because like, why would the inquisitor give a shit about these people they've never met? they tried to pull a virmire without having the narrative weight behind it that would've actually made it juicy. it was just dumb!
speaking of mass effect, narratively the series is much much weaker than that trilogy and i think part of that is because they changed the formula with the second one and tried to make the protag like shepard and it really limited things. warden best protag.
solo queen anora and i will not budge on that. warden alistair endgame is his ideal endgame to me and leaving hawke in the fade is fine because the kirkwall gang will storm the fade to get them out if they don't get themselves out. it's hawke like, be fr.
mass effect
i'm more interested in humans than i am the aliens because i personally find earth politics way too fascinating. like yes please tell me more about the texan megapolis.
love ashley. love kaidan. you can imagine the kind of stress i am under at all times. also the space racist jokes make me want to put my head through a wall, because everyone misinterprets what ashley meant by the dog + bear convo and you too would be alarmed by the sight of an elcor.
garrus is overhyped and shakarians get on my nerves. i don't like bioware forcing liara on me. tali being straight is one of the cruelest things that bioware ever did.
andromeda was dai in space so i don't get why it flopped so hard. it was, like, fine i guess? and it had a natalie dormer asari. i could overlook cora for that.

Heralding
Dragon Age: Inquisition came almost a decade ago and i still can’t even fathom that. Time had just flown by and, in that same interval, we saw Bioware go from one of the most revered gaming companies, to one of the most reviled, on the back of EA’s bullsh*t. Indeed, Inquisition was the start of that decline. Some would say it began with Mass Effect 3 but i wouldn’t. EA hounded the ME team with their EA-isms, for sure, on that game but thy were able to mitigate the damage. Mostly. That tacked on multiplayer nonsense and the changed ending was a lot but, i mean, ME3 is still my favorite to play so i can’t fault them too much. No, the strangled hold and decline definitely started with Inquisition and the fandom was VERY vocal about it. Between the Frostbite engine issues and the rather pedestrian villain, to annoying companions and weirdly uneven pacing, there were a lot of issues with Inquisition but is it really that bad a game? Is it really as bad as the fans say or are they overreacting? I picked this game back up after probably six years of being idle and, with fresh eyes, i wanted to take a look at what Dragon Age: Inquisition is, after a few years worth’s of hindsight.
Stuff I Like
Companions
I have played very Dragon Age entry to date but, i must say, i enjoy the eclectic mix of companions in Inquisition the most. It’s like a greatest hits of the three games. Returning characters like Leliana, Cullen, and Varric were a pleasure to see. I’ll always love Morrigan and getting a glimpse of A Hawke was dope, too. But, i have to say, my affinity for the new companions is much stronger than the nostalgia i felt for the old. Except Morrigan. I love me some Morrigan. That said, it’s hard not to include the likes of THE Iron Bull and Dorian in my party whenever i adventure out into the great expanse of Thedas. Blackwall has an absolutely intriguing arc and even Vivienne has some strengths to her story. Hell, i even enjoy the sh*t out of Sera, which is a wildly unpopular opinion among the fandom. People hate that chick like i hate Cole but i find little miss Breeches absolutely adorable.
Skyhold
As a world hub, as a component to the overall game play, i love Skyhold. Never mind the narrative ramifications, just the plethora of little mini games and sub-missions which unlock once you get to the forgotten fortress, are enough to send me into a completionist spiral. Rebuilding the fortress in order to bolster passive stats, earning a sub-class like Reaver, sitting in judgment of criminals, and creating laughably overpowered weapons once Dagna is recruited (imbuing Hidden Blades on literally everything you can makes for short work of any enemy you come across), speaks directly to my meticulous Virgo nature. Plus, who doesn’t want to be a whole ass Lord with a military force that rivals an entire country.
Dragons
What would a Dragon Age game be without Dragons? DA:I has ten of these motherf*ckers of varying difficulties but all of them are a riot to fight against. Slaying these things is the best thing about Inquisition, even if they have a rather simplistic attack loop. There is roughly three variations of how to kill these thing, which is a little meh, but, hot damn, do they add flair to each of these battles! I mean, just aesthetically, the dragons are gorgeous! The Northern Hunter in Crestwood, Abyssal High Dragon in the Western Approach, and Visnomer on the Storm Coast are easily my favorites but all of them has their own charm. Hell, Emprise du Lion has three to choose from, all of which is high level and will f*ck you up if you’re not prepared.
Cassandra Pentaghast
Listen, i love this character. For me, she is the stand out of the franchise so far. She was my favorite thing about DA2 and easily took this spot in DA:I. She had the depth f character that really lends itself to my lore-lust. I mean, aside from her rather substantial prescience in DA2, she was one of the few ancillary characters to get content outside of the games. Much like James Vega from my beloved Mass Effect series, Cassandra got herself an entire film fleshing out a good portion of her backstory. Obviously, i was captivated by the orphaned, Nevarran, princes who slayed a whole ass dragon. Imagine my surprise when she ended up being, not only an integral party member in DA:I, but a Romance option! This was Tali in ME2, all over again and i was here for all of it! Suffice it to say, I enjoy me some Cassandra Pentaghast, disgusted noises and all.
Story
Inquisition’s story is a mixed bag for me but leans more positive than negative. Honestly, none of these games feel as... grand or cinematic as, say, Mass Effect or any of the various Final Fantasy titles. Their narratives are rather intimate and kind of small. More than that, there isn’t any one antagonist that really screams “threat”. Like, we got a glimpse of one at the end of DA:I in the Dread Wolf but other than that? Not so much. Still, the overall story is a decent framing device to see Thedas in a rather expansive and through eye. Inquisition is the first time we got to actually roam more than one part of he continent, passing from Ferelden to Orlais. Still haven’t seen a hint of Tevinter but that’s what happens in the next installment i guess. I rather enjoyed all the little loyalty missions and the stuff with Red Lyrium but the overall narrative is kind of meh. Still, it’s better than whatever the f*ck happened in Dragon Age 2.
Stuff I Don’t Like
Corypheus
Bro, why is this guy even a thing? Like, i get it: Tevinter Magister that stormed the Gates of Heaven and caused the Blight. That sounds real menacing, that has real impact, but in execution? It’s a wet fart. Corypheus is the lamest goddamn villain Bioware has even created and i hate it. I can see the intent and the backstory is there but, come on? Varric killed this guy once and you, as the Inquisitor, best him at every opportunity. Like, you take no L’s from this cat. Even when Haven fell, yo got Skyhold so is that even really a loss? There is no instance where this Corypheus isn’t a tool, both practically at the hands of the Dread Wolf, and metaphorically in terms of how it’s written. Mans is mad bogus and immediately f*cks up the entire endgame for the game. I never once felt like dude was a threat or that he would succeed at any moment.
Level Design
For the most part, i was okay with how the “open world” of Inquisition works, however, why are the maps so goddamn big? Not all of them, mind you, the Storm Coast and Western Approach are reasonable but sh*t like The Hissing Wastes are just flat out excessive. You can ride from one end of that map to the other and never come across a single enemy. It’s egregious. Plus, and i do not encourage doing this, there is a whole ass Rift, like, three steps outside of map’s eastern most invisible wall! F*cking why? And then there’s the Emerald Graves. Talk about a level spike! There is a river that kind of cuts the map down the middle. One side, where the bulk of the missions reside, is pretty tame. The other? Holy sh*t! A dragon, the hardest Rifts to close, and a series of Giants that f*cking respawn! WHY?! This type of sh*t gives me whiplash. At least keep it even like Emprise du Lion. At least that sh*t is hard from the jump.
EA
Boy, EA rally did a number on this game, i must say. Forcing a “multiplayer” in to what is essentially a single player experience, didn’t work all that well for Mass Effect 3. Doubling down and trying to do the same to Inquisition was even more dumb. Like, how do you multiplayer a fantasy title and expect those fans to even play it? Even more egregious was the fact that Bioware was made to use the Frostbite engine on EVERYTHING they made, compatibility be damned! That was a COD engine, not designed for the intricacies of what a fantasy RPG needs. So much development time was lost, just trying to figure out how the systems of DA:I would work in the engine forced upon the team. A lot of the stuff coming out around this time had been infected by EA, crippling so much of the creativity Bioware was known for, in an effort to cut cost and maximize profits. All of this nonsense culminated in the spectacular flop that is Anthem but it was too late for Inquisition which took a hit because of corporate skulduggery.
Cole
F*ck Cole.
Near a decade on, and DA4 on the horizon, i have to say, i still really enjoy Inquisition. It’s flawed, for sure, but i think time has been much kinder to this game than, say, Mass Effect: Andromeda. It’s been a decade and i hope that Bioware will go back to give this thing the remaster treatment soon because, in all honesty, i kind of f*cking love playing this thing, gripes be damned. Corypheus sucks and all of the EAisms really drag down what could have been one of the best ARPG experiences on the Eighth Generation but c'est la vie. What we got feels rushed but there is enough solid gold in here to distract from the objective bile that plagues this game. If you can look past the softest antagonist in Bioware history, a narrative that feels inconsequential, and some of the worst level design in a PS4 era game, Dragon Age: Inquisition can be really fun. The character dynamics, alone, are more than enough for a second look at DA, eight years later. But not Cole, though. F*ck that guy.

Unpopular musical opinion: I didn’t like the Legally Blonde musical
I tried watching it online and quit halfway through because they dumbed down Elle and gave most of her own attributes to the boyfriend so their relationship could be more “developed”
And I’m sorry but the movie was so feminist and female empowering because even though Elle initially wanted to go to Harvard to follow warren she still had to get accepted. So she hit the books with the help of her friends even when she was missing more fun things she didn’t give up and made an excellent admissions video essay already showing excellent persuasion and oral skills like a lawyer.
They lowered her LSTAT score and I know a musical needs to have numbers and physically show what’s going on but I’m very bothered how Elle ultimately getting accepted was her storming the Harvard admissions office with a marching band and appealing with, “but haven’t you ever been in wuuuuuuve?” When they easily could’ve made it a fun number of all of elle’s accomplishments as head of her sorority and other things she did in her college.
Really the last straw was having Elle struggle and out right failing and show no interest in school but we all know the movie never implied any of that! She realized warren would never respect her and so she vowed to become an even more kick ass lawyer than him yet she still had to be somewhat interested in law to continue doing it!
Also the boyfriend whatever his name is shaming Elle with how he had nothing and had to do all this just to make it and get through school felt unnecessary. Yes there can be a talk about class privilege since Elle never had to worry about paying for tuition or housing and it would’ve been cool if the musical explored that but I hate that it was ultimately the boy that kicked Elle’s ass into high gear to do better in law school and he had to watch her like a hawk to make sure she did the work.
It just felt wrong that all of her own achievements in the movie were either reduced or outright given to the other guy. Which is why I hate when people say the musical is better simply because there’s more of a focus on their romance. I don’t care about the romance I want to see Elle smoke sexist entitled assholes by being her positive feminine hard working unapologetic self dammit!
The music is good from what I heard but I’ll stick with the movie
i haven’t watched either the musical or the movie — i know, i’m a sham — but wow this sounds like an absolute trainwreck & miss of what the character is supposed to be. oof.

March Reads + Sticky Tabs
There may be spoilers for all of these in under the line!
(These are in the order I read them)
The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass Novellas) by Sarah J. Maas
I knew that Sam had been killed before Celaena went to Endovier. I knew that. I knew that and somehow still ended up so invested that my plans to not be invested in everything that is Sam Cortland were derailed so massively.
It’s not a secret that Celaena irritated me a lot in the first book (majorly improving in the second) but these were really helpful to learn her character. The novellas are really a book of their own, and I will always read it after Crown of Midnight now (except for that one page that I know word for word because I was thoroughly traumatized.)
My name is Sam Cortland and I will not be afraid.
No, I’m not okay, your honor.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab
After buying this last year, it has been one of my most anticipated reads ever since. I wanted so badly to love every aspect of this book, but I didn’t. And the reason why is really just convoluted, and only annoys me. I do love every part of this novel. Schwab is truly a master storyteller, and she writes an incredible villain. (Please, I don’t care how problematic it may be, I would like a Luc of my own.)
I loved every part, but I didn’t necessarily love them all together. I had issues with the pacing, and keeping my attention on the novel. A few times, I wanted to close the book because it wasn’t doing it for me. That changed once I met Luc, and I’ve told quite a few of my friends that I was really reading for Addie and Luc, but also as close as I could get to Addie’s resolution as well.
It may not be a book I reread often, but it sticks with me. Given what the book is about, who Addie is, and the lengths she goes to in order to leave her mark on the world, I think that may be even more important.
Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas
I had my worries. I really loved that love interest in book two, and I was pretty sure that I wouldn’t love Rowan. I was wrong. Again. Surprise.
I’ve been told that the first few books were slow and HoF is where it picks up. In comparison, the first two books are slow but they’re actually packed full of action.
I think about the slow thaw between Aelin and Rowan all the time. They stick in my head. My family and boyfriend are annoyed that I’m still talking about Rowan and playing his song on repeat weeks later. Sucks for them.
Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J. Maas
Arguably my favorite book of the series so far, but I have one more to go.
I read the scene where Aelin and Rowan reunite ten times before I moved on.
I love Lysandra so much, when I thought I would hate her.
Still love Chaol, but want to throttle him more now.
I just want Dorian to be happy and safe.
I have the biggest ever crush on Manon Blackbeak
Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles
DNF around page 200. It wasn’t doing it for me, but I tried to love it.
Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5) by Sarah J. Maas
I am in so much pain.
QoS may be my favorite book but this one has some of my favorite scenes.
From Blood and Ash (FBAA #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
WOW. Listen, I recognize that there may have been some problems with the plot, pacing, or whatever I’ve seen on Goodreads but I actually am so in love with this series.
So in love that I might have ordered several bookmarks for it and I’m not sorry.
I don’t like dystopians, but this has a very dystopian feel but I love it so much. I haven’t been able to read vampires (it’s basically vampires, right?) for years but I LOVE THIS.
Two days and I haven’t stopped thinking about Hawke for a second.
A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire (FBAA #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I loved the sequel even more than the first one. Now I have to wait for book three, and I’m having withdrawals.
I love a couple that fights but uses it as their way to create a barrier. I love a couple that says “this is just pretend” when I know damn well this is real.
Please, JLA, can I have book three.
Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas
I missed Chaol so badly in EoS and I was so happy to see him again. I guess it’s an unpopular opinion to love him, but I still do. What I loved even more was reading his character heal and develop while also reading him accept how things ended with Aelin.
(Still wanted to strangle him in QoS but I’ve always loved Chaol.)
I struggled to get into Nesryn’s storyline because I was so busy looking forward to when I would see Yrene again. By the end though, I more than loved Nesryn and Sartaq. My eyes were getting watery at a certain part for the two of them.
MARRIED. OH MY GOD.
HEIR.
I haven’t even started Kingdom of Ash yet and I have no idea how I will be able to close the book when I finish it.
To Love and to Loathe (ARC) by Martha Waters
I wasn’t sure if I would like historical romance, but it turns out that I do! I admit there were some terms I didn’t recognize but they were pretty easy to put together.
Diana’s antics and scheming are absolutely laugh out loud funny. I enjoyed her immensely as a protagonist.
My favorite part of romance novels, or movies, is always the scene where they cave to their feelings. And this one was no exception at all.
I liked the book so much that I ordered the first book about another character in the universe!

This might sound like a stupid question, but I'm thinking about getting into Dragon Age because I'm a dumb fantasy hoe and FenHawke seems like my brand of Royai. I keep getting confused though cause I'm not sure if Hawke is a girl or boy, I dig it either way cause I'm here for the dynamic! How would you suggest getting into the world/game play?
hey! I’m super glad to hear new people are interested in getting into Dragon Age. fair warning, fenris/hawke isn’t really like roy/riza... like, at all? lol (not military, neither are about duty/sacrifice over personal gains — the opposite, actually — although there IS lots of pining) but if you’re trying to say you think you’d dig it anyway, then awesome.
Hawke is a PC (playable character) and you have the choice to play as a male or female version of Hawke. Hawke is also customizable in terms of appearance, so that might explain if you’ve seen lots of different-looking people tagged as “Hawke.” These are the default heads, but you can customize them.
Fenris is in the second game, Dragon Age 2. Fenris is available as a romance option for any Hawke. (and so are the other available romances in DA2, so that’s why you’ll see people saying that every DA2 love interest is bisexual. in this house we reject that the bisexual companions are “player-sexual”)
I played DA2 first, so you can technically play DA2 without playing the first game, Dragon Age Origins, especially if you only want to see what one romance is like. although if you’re someone who’s interested in story/the larger world, then I’d strongly suggest starting with Origins because 2 will jump right into it; they do explain some lore to new players, but I think having Origins under your belt will make for a less confusing experience. but like I said, I played 2 first, and replayed it several times before finally looking at Origins, so it’s not a big deal if you just want to jump into a game for one character.
Origins and 2 also have different... vibes? DAO is a game about a bunch of dissimilar people banding together despite outward appearances to defeat a great enemy and save the world. DA2 is about a gang of friends — misfits, rogues, outcasts — trying to put food on the table, get through each day, and survive the political storm brewing in their city. they’re very different kinds of stories. I personally like the more interpersonal feeling that DA2 has, because it has (I think) better banter between characters and you get the sense that these people have relationships with each other and do things within the city even when Hawke is not around. Origins is a much more classic “call to action, save the world from evil” sort of story, and what it does, it does well. 2 has always appealed to me more, though admittedly I don’t know if that’s just because I played it first.
and fair warning if you decide to start with Origins, there’s no way to say this politely: the combat sucks. the game was made in 2009 and it kind of shows (which is why I use a “Skip Combat” mod when I play it). DA2’s combat is personally my favorite in the trilogy, but I think that’s an unpopular opinion.
if you’re worried about if you’d like the combat, maybe watch some videos? the Dragon Age series has a system where you can pause in the middle of combat at any time to deliver orders to certain party members, queue up actions that you want to take (moves, health potions, stamina potions), or just take a second to assess the battlefield and decide your next move. I personally use this feature frequently but it mostly depends on what class I’m playing: I really love it when the combat is gliding and I can play it in “real time” without pausing. here some videos:

Technical notes:
Dragon Age Origins was once available on both Mac and PC, but it looks like for all intents and purposes, it’s only available for PC now. I found this: “Dragon Age Origins was ported to Mac by a third party company that got bought out, so it's no longer available legitimately.” Origins for PC is currently on sale on Steam for $5, and the ultimate edition is $7.50. although I’m sure if you want to play it on Mac, there’s probably a place to download it out there.
Dragon Age 2 is available on both Mac and PC.
I hope that helped. LMK if you need more or that’s not the kind of information you’re looking for at all, lol.

🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?
Starling.
I was allowed to overthink her character. I realised a few things that the writers probably didn't intend, but the choices they made with her character have lead to some... interesting implications about her morality between the lines of the show.
Canon Starling is a very flat character overall, she may as well not exist unless she needs the Storm Hawks for something and vice versa and that only ever happens twice. Three times if you count her saving Aerrow and Radarr in Age of Heroes and outing herself as a spy.
She's the last survivor of the Interceptors squadron after they were defeated (and presumably killed) by the Raptors of Bogaton. The Interceptors' home Terra was Mesa, a place we only see twice in very short scenes at the end of both Absolute Power and Cyclonia Rising Part 2, and literally all Starling does there is 1) put her squadron's shield that she stole back from Repton underneath a flag in a very bare-bones memorial and 2) replace the Interceptors flag with the emblem of the Storm Hawks. Which... makes no sense because we never see the Hawks visit Mesa but I digress.
The actual state of Mesa or when the Interceptors were killed is never mentioned anywhere, not even in the Storm Hawks website (which was recently revived, go check it out), but I'd safely assume that it's not been conquered by Cyclonia because in Absolute Power, Starling just waltzes over to the "memorial" flag to drop off her team's shield. For all we know the Terra could be densely populated, but again we never see more than that one setpiece both times it's visited.
Starling never talks about home. She never talks about her team (granted why would she want to talk to a bunch of teenagers about how much she misses her dead teammates?), and for all we know she never goes back after Absolute Power or between her few appearances in the show.
She spent god knows how long as an undercover spy in Cyclonia before Age of Heroes, and such a thing would not leave her with any room to go back to Mesa to protect it.
It brings up a lot of questions, and one I ask myself quite often is "Who's protecting Mesa when she's gone?" Did the Interceptors get replaced or is she still the only member hanging around?
Did she abandon her Terra in her grief? And is she still avoiding having to deal with the loss of her team by avoiding Mesa and its people?
Aside from Absolute Power, the loss of the Interceptors is never addressed, least of all by Starling. What does that say about her morality beneath the surface?
I don't think Starling is a terrible person, nor do I wish to portray her as someone who gladly neglects her duties at home to go play hero elsewhere.
But I do think that she's a deeply traumatised soldier who hasn't addressed her grief properly, and is leaving the citizens of her Terra open to attack in her subconscious efforts to avoid it. Which I think makes her a very interesting character to think about, and opens the door to endless possibilities when it comes to writing about the situation on Mesa. I just wish a few more people than just me and the buddy squad would mess with the idea, it's getting lonely XD

Well now I have to ask for Fenris too
Well if you have to then who am I to deny you LOL
How I feel about this character
He's easily one of my favorite in the series. I personally feel like people that don't like him didn't really friend him in the game because he goes through a HUGE change as far as his character arc. At the beginning he is incredibly untrusting of mages (understandably so) but recognizes he needs the help of the ones in Hawke's group if he's going to get his freedom. But little by little he begins to open up as he sees Hawke can be trusted. Slowly his feelings change, he starts to see the nuances in mages and that they aren't all like they are in Tevinter. It takes a long time, but his trauma is severe and it's not like they had therapy then so it makes sense that healing is a long, probably life long, journey for him. He makes mistakes based on instinct he has from years of abuse - for example when he accuses Hawke of making Orana a slave when you first hire her. But he's also quick to apologize when he realizes he's made a mistake - again look at the Orana scene. By the end of the game Fenris stands in support of the mages if that's what Hawke chooses. That's something the Fenris from seven years earlier would never have done.
All the people I ship romantically with this character Hawke - Male or Female. Zevran (I think they'd make an interesting dynamic)
My non-romantic OTP for this character I feel he and Sebastian would have been close friends
My unpopular opinion about this character I think he and Anders continuing to bicker despite fighting side by side for years was just Varric adding some artistic license to the tale he's telling Cassandra. There needs to be some tension to make it an interesting story. In truth, I believe while at first they bumped heads, over the years he and Anders become friends. I see them still making comments, but it's more friendly ribbing then actual vitrol.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. I would have liked to see Fenris team up with the Inquisition. He could use their power to help fight slavers while using his skills to help the Inquisition battle Corypheus. If he was Hawke's romance, he absolutely WOULD be there. I think instead of the dialog it would have been great if as the Inquisitor is asking Hawke about where Fenris is and Hawke is explaining how he left him behind you suddenly get Fenris storming in yelling at Hawke about how DARE they think they can just leave Fenris like that. We do this together or not at all. I believe if if was a Hawke romance and Hawke is left in the Fade (you monster!!!) then Fenris is heartbroken. He perhaps travels to Starkhaven to see the Prince, to get help with dealing with his emotions.

How I feel about this character: She’s okay, I guess.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I’m not that big on shipping in the Storm Hawks fandom (except for Starling/Repton), but I kinda like her with Aerrow and/or Cyclonis.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Her with Stork was nice.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I feel like her character should’ve been more developed in the earlier episodes (especially on her being an expert crystal mage and later on, the Binding). I also really didn’t like what she and the others did in Episode 8 where they sabotage the Condor.
One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Possibly examining that there’s some morally grey stuff in the conflict between the Sky Knights and Cyclonians.

How about uh rin and/or sasuke for the character ask thing?? Thanks :)
Rin
Favorite thing about them: Her determination. Even while mourning the loss of her friend, she is firm in her conviction to transplant Obito’s eye.
Least favorite thing about them: Narrative-wise, maybe forcing Kakashi to be the instrument of her death? Or not whacking Obito in the afterlife.
Favorite line: “It’s not good to hide your wounds.”
BrOTP: Team Minato, and also Kushina. We don’t get a lot of scenes with them together, but there are a few from the Ninja Storm games that I thought were adorable. And their bijuu narratives make for a pretty compelling connection.
OTP: Kakarin. AU, preferably, since that’s happier.
nOTP: Obito/Rin. He disrespected her grave and committed an act she died to prevent. Not big on them together romantically.
Random headcanon: She was called up with Kakashi by the Uchiha clan in a formal examination of the circumstances under which she transplanted Obito’s eye, and while she didn’t waver during the meeting even once, she cried immediately afterward.
Unpopular opinion: None that I can think of.
Song I associate with them: Comme Des Enfants by Coeur de Pirate
Favorite picture of them: I like her chunin exam look a lot! [x]
Sasuke
Favorite thing about them: The quiet way he lets people know that they matter to him, when he’s willing to show it. From his “Thank you”s to Sakura, to his body “just moving” (first for Naruto and then for Sakura and Kakashi.) He’s not good at expressing his emotions, but his non-verbal communication says a lot when it counts. That and how stupidly dramatic he is. He has a cell phone and still communicates via hawk! The Most Extra.
Least favorite thing about them: It gets exhausting to watch Sasuke go from one pain-filled target to another, wanting revenge and revolution, but there not being any path to either that makes sense for him. (But I think a lot of that is incoherent structure of the war’s climax.) And, really anything they do with him post-reconciliation.
Favorite line: “I’ve already lost everything once before… I don’t ever want to watch my precious comrades die in front of me again.”
BrOTP: Sasuke + Team 7 (esp. parental!Kakashi atm)
OTP: Narusasusaku, though I’d be a bit particular about how it’s done.
nOTP: Really anyone who isn’t one of the above two. Particularly Karin, I suppose, since those scenes were sort of unnecessarily sexualized.
Random headcanon: Regardless of what either canon says, I think it’d be super funny if, post-699, Naruto and Sasuke took the chunin exams together. Maybe with Sai or Konohamaru, depending on who wanted that specific kind of rank promotion. They are somehow both hilariously inefficient and passing with flying colours.
Unpopular opinion: I feel like everything with Sasuke is a divisive issue lmao. I guess that the first Team 7 reunion doesn’t have much bearing on me shipping them? People forgive each other for much worse things in Naruto than the unsuccessful attempt to attack one another.
Song I associate with them: This is Gospel by Panic! At the Disco
Favorite picture of them: For official art, can’t go wrong with Baby Sasuke [x]. For fanart, this whole comic [x]

leafpool and/or brackenfur!! for tha ask meme
send me a character and i’ll list
@shitsstorm ((thank you!! :D))
okay so I’m gonna post it under the cut after Leafpool’s bc it’s gonna be long otherwise ahah
Leafpool
favorite thing about them
hhh I just?? really enjoy her character bc she’s flawed but she means well and, and she’s just… a rounded character which is, tbh, not easy to come by in the world of murder cats
but also the fact she willingly punished herself for having kits says a lot about her character - she willingly stepped down from the position she adored, the only position she ever loved, and did her very best to be a decent warrior
least favorite thing about them
uh…. from what I understand about Leafpool’s Wish, she seemed kinda ooc?? and I’m not digging the idea that she pressured her sister (guilt tripping her?? idk) into taking her kits instead of claiming they found them abandoned or somethin’
but like… I feel like that’s more on the authors/editors? bc, again from what I understand, is that she was acting ooc and ooc is gonna be more writer error than character intention (depending on how it’s handled/the situation)
tho, of course, even if it’s not ooc, I still don’t like that :/
favorite line
hmm… “”It was my fault alone. You are wrong to blame Squirrelflight. She was just being loyal to me.” (The Last Hope)
I mean, there’s more to the quote, but that bit I just really love bc it shows Leafpool knows it was her fault and does her best to try and restore the trust Squirrelflight lost
brOTP
her and Sorreltail!!
OTP
her and Mothwing ofc
nOTP
lmao, her and Crowfeather
their relationship is just… Not Good™ considering that both were probably… just really lost/lonely?? like, we know Leafpool was desperate for someone bc she was feeling like she was being pushed out of her role/her Clan, and I’m sure Crowfeather wasn’t in a great position himself considering he lost Feathertail and I’m sure his Clan was still sour with him up and leaving like that despite it being a StarClan thing (not to mention, I don’t think Crowfeather choosing his name was taken lightly with his Clanmates asdfjhdsfj)
random headcanon
um… I like to think that she really cares for Puddleshine like a son after living in ShadowClan for the few moons to train him. like, I feel like almost every apprentice and mentor have a really close bond with one another?? something that differs from kinship, so I feel like that especially goes for those two, even though Leafpool didn’t train him for as long as she should have and that they’re now in separate Clans
unpopular opinion
oh heck if I know I don’t really pay attention to popular opinions sadfjsfd
I guess that a (arguably) popular opinion is that she and Crowfeather should’ve stayed away from the Clans to live together permanently?? like… I just can’t get on board with that ahah
I feel like Crowfeather would be just fine as a rogue/longer, but Leafpool needs a Clan structure and does better surrounded by family/Clanmates than she would depending on one cat for the rest of her life
song i associate with them
idk, tbh?? like I’m sure I had a song associated with her at some point but I can’t remember what now asdfhfashk
aCTUALLY I associate her with “It’s Your Life” by Francesca Battistelli that’s just something I haven’t thought about in a few years holy moly
favorite picture of them
I love basically every design I’ve seen with her, but I really love seeing her with a brown pelt (instead of a red/ginger based brown) with a white belly!! like, the white pops nicely against the brown?? so definitely an aesthetic thing
Brackenfur
favorite thing about them
EVERYTHING
asdfjhsdafjhs I mean that’s an overstatement, but I just??? really love him he’s just a great character despite something bland moments (see below for a bit more detail), and he’s just a sweet guy?? like, poor dude was ignored by his actual mentor (thanks Graystripe) but never held resentment toward him, he was determined to help Snowkit become a warrior and ran after the hawk that took Snowkit despite everyone else giving up the moment the hawk took off from the camp, and he just… always does his best
least favorite thing about them
again, it’s less of a character thing and more of a writer thing, but I feel like he has a lot of untapped potential and is… just kinda there?? so he’s just… not really exciting tbh bc he’s often just shoved to the side and ignored
likewise, I just… don’t see him to be the deputy/leader type?? I’ll explain more down in the unpopular opinion part
favorite line
“Every leaf and every blade of grass reminds me of her. I know she’s watching over me and her kits from StarClan. One day we’ll meet again. I would wait forever to see her face once more.” (Bramblestar’s Storm)
hhhh like rip my heart out sdafjkdasfhjafs
he just?? loves Sorreltail so much and can’t wait to see her but he’s still just truckin’ through despite his pain and hhhhhhhh
brOTP
him and Cinderpelt!!
OTP
absolutely him and Sorreltail
nOTP
uh… idk of any other ships with him tbh??? so I don’t have an answer for this whoops
random headcanon
he used to only be close to Cinderpelt bc they were apprenticed together, while Thornclaw and Brightheart were made apprentices until he was basically a warrior. bc of that, he did everything he could to help Cinderpelt adjust to her new life as a medicine cat, and when Brightheart was mauled, he did his best to help their mother and Cinderpelt cope with the event. it was after Brightheart and Thornclaw were made warriors that he began to connect with his other siblings again, and the three of them are very tight, especially after Cinderpelt was killed
unpopular opinion
okay, so I know a lot of people want him to be deputy/leader, and I do like that idea, but I feel like… he’s just no that type of cat
like, I feel like Brackenfur is content with just being a warrior - I feel like he doesn’t want to be moved to a higher position, and I think he would be uncomfortable as ThunderClan’s deputy (though I doubt he would express that discomfort and do his best anyway)
song i associate with them
“King” by Lauren Aquilina! bc of that MAP based on him with that song ahah (which you can see here)
favorite picture of them
hmmm… I really love every design I’ve seen for him so far?? but I absolutely adore @nmirah‘s design for him!
#i'm very grateful for the wc wiki ahah#i wouldn't be able to remember half of what i'm saying now lmao#asks#Midge speaks#shitsstorm
