ninja turtles are here for projecting and processing grief, apparently.

i've seen lots of 'the death of future donnie' comics, most recently ofc being from @somerandomdudelmao (i went back and forth abt tagging but then decided i would, because this is directly their fault, /pos) and then, of course, all the fan content that was made in response to said comic... and i love seeing so many people make so much awesome work! but it's also really fucking sad.

so often in the real world, there are no goodbyes, no dying in the arms of a loved one, no heroic sacrifices, there's just... death. people just die and it sucks. especially because in real life there's also no cool storyboarder assuring you that there's gonna be a happy ending and you'll see them again. and so it's like... then what?

i dunno. i was just sad about it for a while, and i wasn't really sure what to do with that, but i guess this is my answer. sometimes you don't get to say goodbye or hold them when they leave you, and you dunno if you'll get to see them again. but you can still have the mark they left on the world and hang onto that. because no matter what, once upon a time, they were there, and you remember. other people probably do, too.

Hc that once they have a truce and are (at least semi-) talking again, Dream gets the chance to be the annoying brother he's always wanted to be.

Like casually mentioning how some mortals can get sick and die when they're out in the cold too long and then smirking at Nightmare as he gets extra blankets and jackets for the mortals he insists he is not overly attached to.

Or walking in on him writing some professional important letter and leaning over his shoulder going "Who are you writing to? Do you have a girlfriend?? No? Do you have a boyfriend?? Are you writing to tell them how much you like kisses and cuddles??" until Nightmare picks him up with a tentacle and throws him out of the room.

Post truce Dreamtale twins where Nightmare tells his brother "Happy birthday, Dream. You and I are finally seven" because their lives have resumed despite all these years of loneliness and confrontation and now they can start healing together.

Dream just cries and holds his brother's hand but not for too long because prolonged contact is impossible. But it's a start!

Biting, a Dreamtale headcanon

The Dreamtale twins bite. That's it. They were raised in the wild, they would bite, they are feral.

After spending time in the village and traveling the multiverse Dream might have stopped biting tho, or at least he bites rarely (be careful if you piss him off tho, he will quickly go back to his default setting as a feral kid)

But Nightmare ? He never stopped, even after traveling, forming his gang, everything, he didn't stop biting. He will bite you if you piss him off, he will bite you if he feels like it, he will bite you out of spite if you said he wouldn't, he will bite you as a warning, the man bites.

They are feral. They bite.
